Obscure Tolkien Blorbo: Round 3
Bór vs Narmeleth
Bór:
Leader of the Faithful Easterlings, loyal to Maedhros, his three sons died in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad after killing the sons of Ulfang.
He fights during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and his group remains faithful to the Union. Even though Tolkien Gateway says he dies, nowhere in the Silmarillion is that mentioned. BUT, we do know that his sons all die, so. His loyalty cost him a lot. I have so many thoughts about him!!! The way I picture how the Nirnaeth goes for the eastern host mostly revolves around him.
Narmeleth:
Elf of Lindon & later the Gwaith-i-Mirdain; crafted & entrapped by a minor ring of power (Lord of the Rings Online character)
Narmelleth!!! I mean. She's got it all. Corrupted by the Gift Lord, Ring-forger, Bane of Fornost, Earnur's Worstie, COOL OUTFIT, Redemption Arc we didn't start the fire
she actually managed to destroy the lesser ring of power "Annatar" had used to corrupt her, which is like, SO impressive considering how long she had been under its influence. She also fought Mordirith (the steward of Angmar) and his new champion Mordrambor (a universally loathed NPC that everyone rightfully hates for personal reasons) single-handedly!! I don't mean alone, the player character was there, but I mean she did it single-handed. with one hand. she lost a hand and kept fighting. and WON!!!

Az újbor hónapja
Ha az Alföld barbár népei tanakodtak volna azon, hogy mit adtak nekik a rómaiak, valószínűleg a bor is felkerült volna a listára. Régészetileg igen kevés nyom utal arra, hogy az itt élő népek szőlőtermesztéssel foglalkoztak volna, viszont díszes poharak, mint például a Faltenbecher, és amfora leletek bizonyítják a borfogyasztást. A sok ellenségeskedés ellenére is valószínűleg egyetérthettek a rómaiak és a barbárok abban, hogy in vino veritas, vagyis a borban az igazság.

Tell us about your Easterling conlang! Was it inspired by any real world languages?
No real-world languages at the moment, at least not consciously, though once I get deeper into developing the grammar that may happen. Tolkien doesn't give us much for the Easterling languages, just a few names. (I know he later changed his mind and said Bor & Family and Ulfang & Family were Easterling names and not Sindarin, but I find it too hard to swallow that Bor and Uldor just happened to have names that were cognates with Sindarin terms reflecting their choices in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.)
So I took some of the sounds that Tolkien seems to have disliked, and then I used the OT constraint model to develop a functional phonology. I ended up with a quantity-sensitive monopodal language with syllable structures of CX(C) and CX:, where X is anything more sonorant than a glide. Its feet are trochees and are aligned with the left side of the word. It requires onsets and CC-voice-agreement, and bans epenthesis and adjacent identical segments. It also bans [g] in outputs. It allows complex clusters and deletion when necessary to prevent violations of higher-ranked constraints. It does not force agreement in place of articulation.
It's called Lathtesh ('speech'). The Easterlings call themselves Rikishim ('sun-people').  The plural morpheme is -ishim, though the output obviously changes based on the noun it's modifying. So nuv ('mountain') becomes nuvishim, but ki ('person') becomes kishim because *kiishim would violate the Onset constraint, and *ki?ishim (? = glottal stop) would violate the Dep constraint. Brodda ('wolf') becomes broddashim for the same reasons, as well as the additional reason that *broddishim would violate the Max-Root constraint.
(Just to make things more fun: the input that leads to ri ('sun) is actually /iri/, so if for some reason you wanted to make the compound word 'mountain-sun' you'd actually end up with nuviri, not *nuvri.)
Verb conjugations are not gendered. The first-person plural morpheme is -li, and the third-person singular is -o. So verbs ending in consonants are easy - khavral ('to be', with kh being the voiceless uvular fricative) becomes khavrali ('we speak') and khavralo ('he/she/it speaks'). Verbs ending in vowels behave differently; lathta ('to speak') becomes lathtali ('we speak'), but stays lathta for 'he/she/it speaks' because *lathto would violate the Max-Root constraint.
...I might have got a bit carried away here. Hope you don't mind!

The sons of Bór were Borlad, Borlach, and Borthand; and they followed Maedhros and Maglor, and cheated the hope of Morgoth, and were faithful.
Featuring Antonio Te Maioha as Bor, Benjamin Mitchell as Borlad, Julian Arahanga as Borlach, and James Rolleston as Borthand.

The (Members of the) Union of Maedhros Group Dynamics
Regardless of whether it’s confirmed in canon (and it does seem to be at least implied), I firmly believe that there were a series of meetings and joint collaborations before the actual battle
On that note, @tolkiengenweek, group dynamics
Focuses on Maedhros, Bor, Húrin, Azaghâl, and Fingon and some of their representatives with a few minor OCs/giving names to textual ghosts to fill in some gaps
This post focuses on how the personalities, histories and statuses of the members interact with each other as well as exploring what they brought to the table, literally and figuratively
I’m thinking of doing a part two that focuses more on the background politics and military planning if there’s interest!
Maedhros:
Fingon is the high king but the Union is Maedhros’s brainchild and he is generally treated as the leader in these meetings and events. Those who joined the Union are among those who respect Maedhros, however much they may also fear him. And many do fear him. Some have difficulty addressing him directly, even publicly faltering.
The representative heads in the Union are loyal enough that they will vocally defend Maedhros against many of the rumors that occasionally spread through their ranks.
Maedhros brings: insider knowledge of Angband and how it runs, years and years of military experience on the forefront of the defensive line, Allies across three different peoples
Detriments: He’s mistrusted perhaps rightfully because of the kinslaying and less rightfully because of his status as a survivor of Angband, the oath is a conflict of interest
Fingon: the high king. Considered more approachable than Lord Maedhros. A valiant and brave commander certainly but not ruthless outside the battlefield.
Fingon brings: Allies and resources that might not be available just through Maedhros
Detriments: loyal to Maedhros which cost him some allies
Bor:
He has a steady voice and is an excellent diplomat at interpersonal issues that occasionally break out both among his own people and the Union.
His cousin Lynt is in charge of object, weapon and resource inventory. She keeps incredibly thorough notes but of course also has the perhaps more important job of making sure only the right people have access to these numbers
Bor and his family bring: military experience, diplomatic skills, potential other allies back home, information on Morgoth’s activities east of the Ered Luin
Detriments: they’re mistrusted by some because of xenophobia (which is obviously not their fault), relatively new to Beleriand so with less knowledge of the lands
Húrin (and sometimes Huor)
Completely unafraid of the elven nobility. In the dinners and gatherings after war council, he chats amicably with everyone. His strength in fighting and the intensity of his hatred of the enemy can become a little disconcerting especially contrasted with his off hours demeanor.
Húrin (and Huor) pros: despite their relatively young ages, they can work with pretty much anyone on their side and are open minded to their allies and quick to understand new information and positions, willingness to lead their men into battle when necessary
Detriments: Relatively young, only exposed to a pretty biased view of elven politics, Morgoth wants at least one alive (though this might not be known yet, I doubt you get a memo when Morgoth orders your death or capture)
Azaghâl is a longtime ally to Maedhros and is the leader of the largest group of dwarves to fight in the Nírnaeth. They don’t know much about elven politics nor do they particularly care but they hate Morgoth with a passion to rival any of the others
Pros: Azaghâl also has good knowledge of the lands East of the Ered Luin, they have connections to other dwarves groups, they know of potential locations in the mountains where survivors can flee
Detriments: no huge ones. Smaller groups than some of the others can bring
Everyone in the Union has suffered or has had loved ones suffer because of Morgoth. Maedhros of course loses his grandfather and endures years of torture, Fingon loses his father and other family members, Bor and his family have their people attacked by Morgoth’s Allie’s for refusing to join and have to flee their homes, Húrin and Huor lose their father in the fighting and are both very close with survivors of Dagor Bragollach who lost everything (Morwen and Rían). Azaghâl and their people have likewise suffered attacks and losses by Morgoth and his allies
