The rugby uniform felt like a funny idea at the time, but now you're cold and wondering how James manages to stay warm when he plays. You must ask him.

He sits on the couch with Remus and another friend, Frank. You like Frank but he's not one of your boys, leaving you no options —you have to slide yourself between Remus and James, emphasis on have to. Remus touches your waist unthinkingly as you do, like he might catch you if you fell.

James is ecstatic to see you as always. "Where have you been? I was about to send out the search party."

He's been very, very pleased with you upon the reveal of your costume. Like, pleased enough to take a handful of your thigh and squeeze at the soft inner part greedily. You lean back into Remus, enjoying the feeling and wanting his comfort. He's used to it, and he adapts by pressing his face indulgently to the side of your head.

You giggle. This is usually a nice feeling, but drunk? You're euphoric.

"You can't stray too far, lovely, I need my victim," Remus says.

"Where have your fangs gone?" you ask, pointing at your neck. "I made the bite mark so perfect. Everyone will think I have rabies if you don't commit."

James laughs like you're hilarious. Later, you'll find out that you didn't quite say every word that you thought you said, and that you'd been slurring your words into one another to create Frankenstein's sentences.

"Everybody already thinks you have rabies," James says. He's wearing a chef's costume from a show he likes, a white shirt that's sleeves strain against his biceps and a blue apron. Sirius spent an hour drawing tattoos into his brown skin with a sharpie. "That's why we've decided to put you down."

"I'll have one last night of passion with her first, if you don't mind," Sirius says, announcing his presence.

You like the sound of that, lifting yourself away from the other two boys and their touches to take Sirius' fine hands. He's in a button up and tie, the sticker on his chest proudly proclaiming, Hello, my name is: Dave.

"You're here to kiss me, right?" you ask.

Sirius grins and presses a quick kiss to the corner of your mouth. "My little alcoholic, you smell like lambrini. What did we say about lambrini?"

"Uh, that it makes me sloppy drunk."

"Exactly!" He kisses your cheek, working an arm around your shoulder as though showing you off with pride to the other boys. "My darling, you're so smart."

"Not that smart, she still drank the lambrini."

"Remus, don't start," Sirius admonishes. "You just hate that she chooses me when she's drunk."

"You're her enabler," James says, "of course she does. But before she was drunk she chose to dress as me for Halloween, so if anyone is the favourite–"

"Oh, please don't start," Remus says.

The boys start, arguing over who your favourite is. It's a silly pass time with no real merit but no malice, either, and you're just drunk enough to goad them on. "Maybe Remus should be my favourite. After all, he's my vampire. Our love is, like, eternal."

The furrowed brow he gets whenever the other two boys debate slips. "It's so eternal," he says, nodding confidently. "Quite right, dove."

"Eternal doesn't mean better."

"Then what does it mean, Sirius?"

You decide that James' lap looks comfortable and that you might be here for a long time, so you push his legs down flat and sit carefully (not very carefully in reality, but in your heart) on his thighs, socked feet pulled up onto the couch, sideways and skewiff in his company.

"Well, obvious winner," James says, encompassing your back with a big arm, pulling you into him. Under his hand your shoulders feel like a more delicate system; you aren't necessarily small, but his touch feels so everywhere, a pervasive feeling of safety and comfort in the palm of his hand where it grasps you.

"You have the more comfortable seat," Sirius says nonchalantly. "It means nothing."

Remus pulls one of your socks up where it's slipping down your calf and Sirius interrupts the arguing to ask if you need a glass of water. You don't have favourites. They're each incredibly lovely in their own way.

she liked to sit on the couch with a blunt and people watch, dina chatting away in her ear or singing at jessie. abby trying to find her pic of the night with some help from ellie.

but tonight was boring. dina had run away to dance, pulling jessie with her. abby had an away game, states away. she sat on the couch alone, bored now.

and then she saw you. she thanked a god she didnt know existed that abby wasn’t there that night.

ellie watched for a moment as you grabbed a drink, waiting to see if you found a friend. but when five minutes passed and you still stood there, eyes floating around as you slowly sipped, she made her way over.

“hey,” you jumped a little as she spoke and she smiled softly. “shit, sorry. didn’t mean to scare you.” but you shook your head and laughed. “i’m ellie.”

“angel.” she hummed in response, a questioning tone to it. “what?”

ellie clicked her tongue. “angel? that you’re real name?”

“is ellie yours?” she nodded. “huh. well, maybe if you’re nice enough you can learn the real one.” you smiled teasingly at her.

“you ever gonna tell me your name?” ellie’s arms rested on the window frame of your car door. “i thought i was nice.”

you laughed softly and kissed her cheek. “goodnight ellie.”

she sighed and pulled back, a blush rising to her face, and she watched as you drove away from the party. watching even after your car disappeared and you with it.

an arm slung around her and ellie stumbled as she caught dina’s weight. “good god, how much did you drink?”

dina giggled as jesse caught up to the both of them, her coat and his keys in hand. “just hold her while i bring the car around?” ellie nodded and watched jesse jog off.

“who was that girl?” dina wondered.

ellie smiled softly. “no idea.”

draken had almost no objection to you and mikey getting together, he really could tell all along that you had feelings for him and vice versa

the only thing that bothered your brother was how childish mikey could be at times, but with considerable thought—maybe he’s the boy you fell for because you knew you could handle it

the two of you started dating months after you two met, and it was smooth sailing from then on out (minus the occasional verbal beating you gave baji because of his reckless actions—but honestly, he needed more people who could scold him)

chifuyu always gets embarrassed whenever you two show any sort of affection with him in the same room

IM SOBBING HES SO DRAMATIC—for someone who reads a lot of shoujo manga, he does not like seeing it in his best friend and sister LMAOOO

it’s all in good heart and games though, chifuyu really means no harm

why would he? you’re so happy with baji, someone he looks up to a lot and seeing you two interact can sometimes ignite a warmth in him

baji treats you as good as chifuyu would’ve expected from his captain, and if baji needed any help—chifuyu would be ready to help him whenever <3

MITSUYA

probably the most responsible and respectful out of the whole list when dating his best friend’s (hakkai) sister

you have a big family of siblings, there’s your two brothers and yuzuha—who all have no issue of you dating toman’s third division captain

there is definitely no complaint from hakkai holy fuck 😭😭😭 he is OVER THE MOON, fucking ECSTATIC that his sister is dating THE mitsuya takashi

taiju (post-black dragons arc bc him before was horrible and embarrassing help) and yuzuha know mitsuya will treat their dear sister well, and basically saw it coming at one point

taiju noticed the way mitsuya paid extra attention to you, and looked at you as if you were the only girl in the world—he definitely had a talk with him before mitsuya confessed to you, and was happily met with mutual feelings !!

like mikey, not too much changes between hakkai and mitsuya’s relationship once you and him become a thing

possibly hakkai is… more loud? LMAO

“TAKA!!!! HOW ARE YOU??! WOW—YOU LOOK EXTREMELY HANDSOME TODAY!!” he yells from behind you, dropping you off at the mall to hang out with mitsuya

please he’s getting looks from strangers as mothers drag their kids away from the loud teen

mitsuya is SO embarrassed, and can feel your humiliation radiate off of you from afar

the two of you laugh over it every now and then during your time together, and spend a a great day away from your brother’s loud mouth

girl to girl moment, yuzuha finds it so cute when you gush to her about the things you and mitsuya did together, or the little romantic ministrations he does for you

she smiles fondly as you giggle your fucking head off LMAO

as for taiju … UH you don’t normally find yourself going to him to talk about mitsuya, it’s just not a natural impulse you have + you don’t really know how he’d react to that kind of conversation

he’s glad of it too LOL but sometimes he’ll walk past you on the couch texting someone, and realize it’s mitsuya

your big brother’ll give you a head pat, and ask if everything is going alright with you two, or just in general as a check up—he vowed not to let anyone, including himself harm his siblings (WOO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT !!!!)

you five + mitsuya’s siblings have a really cute relationship together, everyone in toman views it as one big happy family

luna and mana love you, they’re always so so thrilled when mitsuya invites you over; they particularly love playing princess with you, and of course you’re the princess in their eyes

“y/n’s so pretty in that dress! let’s get her some tea!” mana says as she brings you an empty plastic cup with imaginary tea inside—when you play along with their games and fun, it makes a flutter in mitsuya’s heart soar <3

NAHOYA

when you told mucho that you and nahoya were officially dating, your brother honestly saw no harm in it—only that by being his best friend, mucho knew that nahoya could be a bit of a trouble maker

he can’t find any reason to object the relationship though, he knows nahoya is a good guy and would take care of you well

that doesn’t stop the stoic, big, protective front he gives when nahoya might get a bit too flirtatious with you

“hey babe,” nahoya hums, walking up to you before slithering an arm behind you to rest against your bum

he even gives it a few taps

THE LOOK MUCHO GIVES NAHOYA FROM AFAR IS SO FUNNY

your brother is always so serious but you swore you saw an eyebrow twitch and a vein pop out

just as nahoya’s about to lean in and kiss your cheek, he can see that from his peripheral vision, that the one and only mucho is approaching you two—at an alarmingly fast pace too

help nahoya’s face is like ¿(￣O￣)? when he sees him coming towards y'all

“what are you doing?” you fight a smile as you look up at your brother, stone face and all

“um, i was gonna to kiss my girlfriend buddy.” nahoya grins, teasing his friend

“that’s my sister.”

“and she’s also my girlfriend.”

“but, that’s my sister.”

IT’S A GAME OF TAG BETWEEN THEM LMAO—nahoya’s like “what—does it expect me not to kiss you??”

“maybe not in front of him babe?”

“oh.” (-o-)

nahoya takes your advice to not make out with you 24/7 and mucho greatly appreciates it

especially when he comes over, mucho does not wanna walk into that LMAO

other than that, the two go strong—and since nahoya comes over more often, the two of them get to spend more time together outside of toman

unpopular opinion: idk if this is an unpopular opinion exactly, but i always see people referring to thee rejected proposal as being something born primarily out of love/out of romantic intent? and i don't know if that's necessarily how i see it. it was CERTAINLY, and obviously, a factor. but at least from my interpretation of pal's monologue to cytherea at the end there, i get the sense that he had already accepted her boundaries in that regard, because he says he "understood that he was a child." and we also get camilla saying that his motivations in proposing were primarily a means-to-an-end way of getting her off the seventh and letting her die with dignity. iirc her exact words were like "so she could spend what time she had left with people who cared about her." like, don't get me wrong, i think pal is lying to himself if he says that being in love with dulcie wasn't PART of the motivation there. but i find it a lot more interesting in a worldbuilding and social commentary way to interpret the circumstances there as him offering, essentially, to be a hospice doctor at age 19, and marriage being the 'easiest' way to get her off the seventh/planet medical malpractice. there's an imperial misogyny ownership-through-marriage throughline there that's nauseating, as well as the implications re: disability and agency and autonomy, and i think that's all very interesting to explore. i think this view is supported in part by the paldulcie interaction in TUG, where she alludes to the idea that she was cognizant about the impact that bearing witness to death and loss up-close and personal like that changes a person, and that she didn't want to do that to pal and cam, especially given their age. i think it informa dulcie's character and grants her additional narrative agency to look at things from that angle, of her "no" being in reference to *both* the age gap AND her intentional choice to continue suffering on the seventh, rather than put two kids through being hospice caregivers and/or widowers at nineteen– no matter how many times and how sincerely they kept offering, no matter that she would've absolutely had a more peaceful and comfortable end-of-life HAD she accepted his proposal and gone to the sixth to die. i think it says a lot about her as a person, that choice. there's a quiet and meaningful responsibility to her as a person that i find fascinating. and her character is just sooooo firmly rooted in and informed by disability politics, on every level, and i feel like people don't engage with that aspect of her characterization enough!

This is so sweet<3 ily anon and I'm sorry this took so long

I like to imagine going to culinary school with him. He's very rough around the edges and eager to prove himself, but he's in a new place where he knows nobody so he's naturally closed off and a loner.

You spend a lot of time in classes and doing labs that seeing him and watching him cook has become routine for you. A part of your day that you grow to love. Especially when you see how talented he really is.

"That looks amazing, chef." You snapped your head up from your dish, finding Carmy peering over your shoulder, watching you plate the salmon. It was the first time he'd ever actually spoken to you. "Thank you." You give a curt nod, smiling a little before turning back to your dish.

After that, you two seemed to be always watching each other cook, almost studying the other. Even working up to sharing tips and eventually doing homework together.

You looked up from your homework, glancing at Carmy scribbling something in his notebook before his eyes met yours. "What?" He asked softly, running a hand through his messy hair. You shook your head and focused back on your own work. "Just copying off you." You chuckle and Carmy lets out his own laugh. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. Chef thinks I can't cook, maybe he's right." Your face scrunched up and you scoffed. "I've tasted your food. You can cook." Carmen remained silent but your words stayed with him for years, far beyond culinary school. It was the first time someone really believed in him.

4. What’s a hobby they used to have that they miss?

Hmm… Joel likes to do art, and I bet he used to make his own paint too from berries and whatnot. He probably stopped when he found out those plants were coming from his kingdom’s Worst Enemy Ever (this was before he knew Oli) and now he doesn’t remember how to do it right, otherwise he’d absolutely get back into it.

Oli's goofy with hobbies bc he's ADHD-coded /lh, so if he finds a new one he'll just disappear for days and forget society exists for a little while. He likes to play music and used to perform for his parents all the time when he was little, but as he got older and they got more busy he played less because he *needs* that audience to really enjoy it... he'd love to play more for Joel, but he's a little shy about it 👉👈

5. Can they cry on command? If so, what do they think about to make it happen?

Well Joel is always on the verge of tears anyway (/hj), so like... maybe not on command, but he can be set over the edge fairly easily (he's just good at hiding it around most people)

Oli absolutely can cry on command, he's a theatre kid smh. He'll tell people he thinks about dropping a cake facedown on the ground or dead puppies or something, but he's really thinking about losing his best friend, especially after his parents are gone :(

10. What fact do they excitedly tell everyone about at every opportunity?

Oh Joel will 100% tell you everything he knows about sniffers in a heartbeat 😭 he got that animal kid autism y'know /aff

Oli isn't as "fact-oriented," but if he's with Joel and also someone else then he'll put Joel on blast, who just blasts him back like--

"Hey! Did you know Joel sneezes if you poke him in the ribs?" -> ">:0 well, did you know Oli makes a funny sound if you scratch behind his ears?!" -> "Hah! Did you know Joel is afraid of heights?!" -> "Did you know you can put Oli to sleep by rubbing his nose like a baby?! >:("

14. How do they put out a candle?

Oli's the kinda guy to do the pinching thing tbh. He's gotta do it with flare~ ✨

Joel just blows it out, but Oli always teases him like "why don't you just flap your wings to put it out lol??" Joel says it's because it's inconvenient to turn around to do it, and his wings are too big for that, but he's also scared of burning them- his wings are delicate :(

16. What kinds of people do they have arguments with in their head?

Joel fights with his parents,, they were very good at reminding him that the only reason he existed was to be an heir for the kingdom and they didn't care about him enough to spend any time with him and he was nothing but disobedient after making his 'little friend' an- a lot of things. And even though Oli reminds him that he does have worth and their opinions shouldn't matter and Joel trusts that, it doesn't stop the echoes in his head </3

Oli probably fights with himself the most. He acts all confident and bold, etc. but he's an anxious mess on the inside. He also fights with the "voice of reason" too -- very "silencio bruno"-esque /lh

17. What do they notice first in the mirror versus what most people first notice looking at them?

The first thing Joel notices is uhh probably his green bangs? They're pretty vibrant and in front, draws your attention /lh, but other people usually notice his colorful freckles. Oli says they're like a rainbow leading to Joel's wonderful eyes <3

Oli probably notices his hair too? Y'know the like, hand comb thing cc!oli does where he combs his fingers through where his hair is parted? He does that a lot. But he's also got the softest brown eyes full of so much joy and,, ough they're pretty

18. Who do they love truly, 100% unconditionally (if anyone)?

Each other :(

They didn't always, they hadda get through a lot of "I'm supposed to hate you yk" before they really got close, and now they love each other a lot. Doesn't matter if the love is platonic or romantic what matters is that it was there and it overcame everything else, etc. etc.

Oli also loved his parents, and Ren + Martyn who are essentially his parents too, they get along very well <3

40. How do they respond to a loose handshake? What goes through their head?

Joel: “Oh moss, did I do that wrong?? Why didn't they shake back? Did I offend them?! Oh Devs, I’m so sorry, they probably hate me, or think I'm weird for shaking so tight, or--"

Oli: *shakes out hand with a grimace* “Wow, that was weird. Do they know how to shake hands?? LOL”

41. What phrases, pronunciations, or mannerisms did they pick up from someone / somewhere else?

Hmm... Joel's got a northern Mezalean accent, and will say things like "I fink / I havva / fank you / ohh blumin'-" etc. when he's tired or stressed or upset or otherwise high/low energy. (Y'know how cc!Joel shouts "EEFO!" and also cc!Stress' tweets? Yeah.) Oli won't necessarily talk like that all the time, but he will mimic and tease him about it hehe ^^

Joel picked up giggling from Oli, he used to rarely laugh at all but Oli's laugh (you know the one) is just so contagious <3

(And also from personal experience (/hj), they both say ourple/ouppy/kibby cat/etc. to be funny, but I dunno who started it)

46. Are they a listener or a talker? If they’re a listener, what makes them talk? If they’re a talker, what makes them listen?

Joel's a listener (because he'd rather just sit and do what he's told and not cause a stir, but if he really cares about it then he'll also Really listen), and he'll talk when he's invited to and/or trusts the person. Like if someone "wanted his opinion" on something but he thought they didn't really care he wouldn't really say anything, but if Oli wanted his opinion? Absolutely, here is it. (It's also dangerous for him, because if he starts talking sometimes he just doesn't stop-)

Oli's definitely a talker ahsjfs, extrovert boy- he usually can't stand silence and will just keep talking to fill the emptiness because if he doesn't he'll explode, but you better believe he'll start listening like a loyal dog the second Joel opens his mouth.

53. Who would / do they believe without question?

I… feel like Joel would believe anything Oli said no questions asked, but Oli’s too much of a prankster and Joel's too gullible for that to end well 😭 maybe I'll say each other but only if there's like the Code Enacted that means What I'm Saying Is 100% Slash Serious, you know?

56. If they’re scared, who do they want comfort from? Does this answer change depending on the type of fear?

They'll usually go to each other for most things because y'know they're very close and trust each other and it's just easy to, but it does depend on what it is too.

Like if Oli's worried about Joel, he's not gonna go to Joel, he's gonna go to Ren or Martyn because he trusts them a lot too, but also they're "ew old parents smh" so if it's a "kid problem" it's bestie time.

Same with Joel, he'll go to Oli for most things (more so than the reverse, because Joel has less support people to begin with), but there are some things he just... can't. And it's times like those where he'll go to his mom for it -- not the queen, his real mom, the Mother Tree. She doesn't talk back in words, but even just curling up in her branches or under her roots is enough to comfort him :')
