You like live music, you like to read, and Ellie is your niece. You have a best friend named Beth, a sister who is having a rough time, and a difficult mother. I’ve avoided physical descriptions and most clothing descriptions, except when plot-relevant. You are vaguely shorter than Joel. No age is specified, but I imagined 36-year-old Joel here (and 14-year-old Sarah), and most English PhDs wouldn’t get to this type of position until they were 28 or 29 at the earliest, even if they went to grad school right out of undergrad. So you can imagine reader any age from there to mid-30s, or whatever you want, really.

Hi friends! After laboring over this fic over the past month and a half, I think it's finally ready to publish! I haven't posted a multi-chapter fic since 2017 and this is the first time I actually have enough written out to do regular updates 👀 I will be posting both on here and on AO3 and should be updating every Saturday, generally around 5pm CST :)

After a long day at work, Levi was more than irritated when he heard a knock on his door. It was well into the evening, so he had no idea who would have the audacity to be bothering him this late. A frown appeared on his face as he looked at the person in front of him in confusion. "What the hell?" he muttered as he saw an equally confused expression appear on your face. That annoying undergrad from this afternoon?

"Did you follow me home?" You raised an eyebrow at him. The last person you had expected to be greeted with was the grumpy barista that you had the misfortune of interacting with earlier in the day. "Did you?" you retorted. Levi scoffed. "How the hell would I have followed you home if I was here first?" He cursed to himself as he recalled the monologue you gave him earlier on in the day. You had said that you had to suffer on a bus ride and couldn't get in contact with your new roommate to get keys to the unit. Now that you were standing in front of the door to his apartment, his frown only grew. Your eyes widened as you finally put together the pieces. "Wait," you asked, shaking your head slightly. "Are you-?" "I guess so," Levi responded with an unamused sigh. "Fuck."

“Ohh… come on, babe! It's just a friday night party. Please. Come on girlie. You need to get out of the dorms for once and live a little.” Your best friend and roommate says, trying to get you to go along with her new greatest plan.

It's only been around 2 months since the Fall semester began, and yet your best friend is already nagging you about your social life, or lack thereof. When you entered college, you’d been determined to get through the 4 years of your undergrad quietly, although that has most definitely not been the case. As a result of a few monstrous professors and their power hungry whack-ass policies, here you are, a 22 year old English major still sluggishly trying to finish your program and find your way into the “real world”.

“Just a ‘friday night party’? Really. You really think I'm gonna buy into that, Yuyu? When is it ever just a 'friday night party'? Be honest with yourself.” You scoff, slightly bitter to the out of the blue suggestion your best friend is implying.

See that's the thing. It's not like you're a fun hater or something, but despite your lifelong friendship with Yunjin, the one thing you don't understand is why showing up at some dumb ass frat and sorority party is so important to a young woman's social life.

“I'm being so serious about this, babe. It's just a little mixer. We can leave at any point if you're not enjoying it. But, I promise I won't even leave your side once. And I'm sure Zuha will stick right by your side too. Right, Zu?” Yunjin coos, eyes silently exchanging thoughts with her sorority sister standing in the corner. “Ohh… y-yeah, yeah… totally.” Kazuha slightly awkwardly replies.

When the two of you ventured off to college, Yunjin joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority in her freshman year. She had initially tried to encourage you to rush with her during that very first Fall semester. But being raised by your rather strict parents who had always discouraged you from ever engaging in the party lifestyle, you had grown up to become a simple girl. So, upon your entrance to university, you elected to stick to extracurriculars befitting of an English major.

While on the other hand, Yunjin found herself assimilating into Greek life quite easily and possibly far too quickly. All the parties, activities, charity events, alumni dinners, and the found sisterhood encapsulated this new chapter of her life. And this part of her life is how the two of you came to welcome Kazuha into your inner circle.

“I-i don't know, Yuyu. You're just so freaking used to going to parties and stuff now, but I… I'm not really sure that I can fit into the party lifestyle now after a life of being the ‘goody goody’. What would people back home say of me? How would my mom and dad react to the idea of me, their shy, sweet daughter going to a party where alcohol is involved?” You ramble on, anxiety and hesitation settling into your bones.

“Yes, you can. You can totally fit into the party lifestyle, because you got me. And as your best friend since the diaper days, I'm not gonna let you just live life as a ‘WHO’S that girl’. Nah, my babe, people should be looking at you and wondering ‘who’s THAT girl'. It's our college years now!” Yunjin counters, emphasizing her desire to see you start thriving in your young adult life, “And who cares what your parents or anyone back home thinks of you. It's YOUR life and you should live it the way you want.”

Should you? Yunjin has a point. You are an adult now, and your decisions are now your decisions. It would be nice to dip your toes into a life you’ve never known and finally experience what all the other girls your age have long been doing.

“I- Yuyu, you and Zuha are the popular sorority girls and pretty artistic major girls. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I mean look at me... I’m just some plain non-attractive girl that's an English major. What would I do at a party?” You ponder, sighing as you significantly degrade your worth in the process.

“Y/n, what are you talking about? I will not have my bestie slander herself like that. Nuh uh. No self-deprecating, only self-love and positive vibes allowed in this space right now, babe.” Yunjin lightly scolds, walking over from her bed on the other side of the room and sitting down beside you. “Now, we are going to go out, enjoy a little partying, maybe some flirting with hot guys, and live our best lives, okay? Because we're young, and besides, don't you wanna be able to look back on your 20s and say you have no regrets?” Yunjin tries to reason with you, grabbing your hands as she graces you with her signature pout.

Returning her pleading pout with an angry, grimacing pout and dagger eyes, you snappingly respond, “B-but why? Huh? WHY?! What exactly have you got up your mischievous sleeve, Yuyu? Why do you want me to go to a fucking frat and sorority party so bad? Tell me. I'm not even a sorority member. What? Have you forgotten all the party horror stories you used to share back in our teens? And don't you remember what happened at the blacklight party in the middle of junior year? I was so fucking flustered and inexperienced with boys that I vomited on Sunghoon’s shoes.”

“Yeah, I know babe. But that was high school.” Yunjin interjects. Sure. It was a horrific high school memory that still haunts you to this day. “Yuyu, that was the most embarrassing moment of my entire life thus far. Give me one good reason. Just one good reason why I should go with you and Zuha to the graffiti party tonight. Why should I get all dolled up just to end up spending my Friday night at some dumb ass frat house with you, getting caught up in a sea of sweaty, wild, drunk-off-their-ass upperclassmen? What's so fun about putting in a copious effort to look cute and hot just to go home with some pretentious fuckboy frat bro?” You argue, laying back and squeezing the life out of your fluffy throw pillow.

Kazuha looks at Yunjin with a face full of confusion. “W-wait… you haven't told her yet, Jen? Junhui, he—” Kazuha questions, wondering why her ‘big’ sister hasn't explained the reason she's so determined to get you to the party. “Just tell Y/n about what Junhui said to you earlier outside the sorority house.”

Junhui? As in… Wen Junhui?! The most popular guy on campus. Wen Junhui, the biggest heartthrob of the Sigma Chi fraternity?! Wen Junhui, the charming performing arts major who everyone predicts could very well become an idol? THAT Junhui?

“Wen Junhui?! Wh-w… what did he say, Yuyu? Did he ask you to be his plus one to the graffiti party tonight?” You sputter in disbelief, words coming out almost like 100 miles per minute. Rather than respond to the onslaught of interrogative questions that's being thrown her way, Yunjin stands up and walks across the room, going towards her 'little' Kazuha. The two girls now silently exchange suspicious looks, as if they're having a conversation that you're not privy to hear.

Normally, you can pick up enough on the unspoken context and vibes from your best friend's facial expressions and body language. But, it seems at this very moment you can't even read your best friend of 15 years at all. What she's thinking about is beyond you at this point. Hell, now that you’ve linked her to Junhui, she could be in a string of deep thought contemplating all the discreet methods she could apply to freaking murder you in your sleep tonight, and you would have no damn clue.

“Ughh… Yes, bestie. That Junhui. The one and only Junhui in the Performing Arts program that's majoring in the departments of Practical Dance and Music. And no, you little brat! It wasn't me that he was asking about. Actually, funny enough, he wasn't even asking about any of the girls in the sorority at all.” Yunjin scoffs, arms folded and crossed over her chest, her hazel doe eyes narrowing as her piercing glare locks in on you.

“She's not lying, y/n. Jen really meant it when she said Junhui didn't ask her about any of the girls in our sorority.” Kazuha clarifies, embracing you by sitting down in the empty space on your bed and holding your hands out.

Still riddled with an overwhelming sense of shock and disbelief, your ever curious mind can't stop itself from asking the deepest burning question plaguing your current thought process, “So, i-if he wasn't looking to invite you, Yuyu, or one of the other girls in your guy's sorority… then, who… who was Junhui asking about?”

Over in the other corner, perched on her bed, back resting against the wall under the window, Yunjin snorts, her facial expressions hardening as her eyebrows snap together. The look she gives you is that of sarcasm. Suddenly, she reaches towards her nightstand and grabs her phone. Without a single word, but a very intimidating and compelling gaze in Kazuha's direction, Zuha scrambles to take the phone from Yunjin. Opening what appears to be kakaotalk chat logs, Kazuha moves closer to show you the screen.

“You. Fucking hell. It's you, y/n. Wen Junhui wasn't asking Jen or I about any of the sorority sisters. He asked both of us about you, y/n. Junhui personally inquired about you. He really really wants you to come to the graffiti party tonight, y/n.” Kazuha explains, passing the phone over to you.

You? Pfft. Yeah right. Not a chance. Wen Junhui asking about you? THE Wen Junhui asking Yunjin and Kazuha about you? If this is some kind of sick joke concocted by the older Gamma Phi Beta girls, you won't be forgiving at all.

“Wen Junhui… THE Wen Junhui asking not about someone else, Pfft. Nice try there, but that's the funniest shit i’ve ever heard. Come on, Yuyu. Seriously, Zuha? Wen Junhui personally asked you two about me going to a mixer when I've barely spoken more than two words to him in the span of a month. Yeah right.”

Ok txny I have to thank you because this question made me go big-brained mode last night and now I got paragraphs for you. I hope you like them lol

Ok, first of all, let me actually let y’all know what the incident that made Apollo leave was. So basically, for years Apollo had been held to an unrealistic standard that he could never achieve. Any failures led to harsh punishments, which worsened Apollo’s quality of life, which worsened his performance in all of the stuff Zeus cared about, and the cycle continues. This all came to a head when it came time to apply for college. Zeus wanted Apollo to follow in his footsteps and study law at his alma mater. Apollo really wanted to make music, but he knew that would never go over well. Instead, he applied to a med school, hoping that the job would be prestigious enough that it would impress his father, even if it wasn’t law.

Sadly Apollo was mistaken, and Zeus became furious. He began constantly berating Apollo, basically telling him that he was basically going to disown him once he turned 18. Eventually Apollo snapped, and the two of them got into a huge fight one night in front of the whole family. Keep in mind that none of the other siblings knew the true extent of how Zeus treated Apollo. Things got physical, with Zeus pushing Apollo down a flight of stairs, giving him a nasty cut, a serious concussion, and getting him hospitalized. This is the last time anyone in the family saw Apollo. Once he woke up, Apollo refused any visitors, and basically went from home straight to college, refusing to talk with any of his family again.

As for how everyone felt about it?

Ares: 29 years old, currently an active military member stationed in Texas (for reference, the rest of the family is in California). Ares had already left the state when Apollo went no-contact, and the two of them weren’t particularly close. Ares basically didn’t really care, as he’s already pretty distant from the rest of the family as it is. He visits during holidays and makes nice with his younger siblings, but to Ares it’s all just doing what’s expected of him. If Apollo wanted to leave that behind, more power to him.

Hephaestus: 26 years old, currently works as a mechanic in northern California. Hephaestus is the only other family member that has little to no contact with the rest of the family. It’s just that unlike Apollo, there was no fanfare when Hephaestus left. Living with a physical disability in a house where your mother despises you and the man who was meant to be your father was horrifically neglectful kind of sucks, actually. Hephaestus left the family behind at 18, and has been doing pretty well for himself since. Because of this, he actually doesn’t know that Apollo followed in his footsteps two years later. Who knows, maybe the two of them will run into each other in the future.

Athena: 30 years old, currently working as a historian in her hometown. Athena is actually older than Ares, as Zeus was with Metis before Hera, and just didn’t tell Hera about it. She lived with her mother for 4 years until her untimely death. After that, she had to move in with Zeus and Hera, which was the first time Hera ever heard of her existence. This is also when Hera was pregnant with Hephaestus. Whoops. After all this, Athena has become a bit of a father’s girl, mainly because Zeus would defend her against her stepmother’s hatred. She doesn’t know all of the details of Apollo’s relationship with Zeus, but her love of her father blinds her to any fault he may have had. The two of them don’t talk anymore for a reason.

Hermes: 22 years old, currently going through undergrad for a degree in communications. Hermes was really hurt by Apollo’s departure, almost as much as Artemis was. He looked up to Apollo a lot, and kind of thought he was infallible. To Hermes, the whole incident came completely out of nowhere, and he still doesn’t know who to stand with. Torn between his brother and his father, he hasn’t tried to contact Apollo since it all happened.

Dionysus: 20 years old, currently going through undergrad for a degree in theatre. Dionysus is the opposite of Hermes, and desperately wants to get back into contact with Apollo, mainly to soothe his own curiosity. Dionysus was born after the majority of the family drama, and was only 14 when Apollo left. He’s kind of dropped out of the family emotionally, but he still wants to know how everything went down. Sadly, Apollo did change all of his contact information after leaving the house, so Dionysus is left with a bit of a wild goose chase to do on top of all his college work.

Thalia: 18 years old, currently a senior in high school, looking to pursue professional archery. Thalia and Jason didn’t move into Zeus’ home until they were pretty old, Thalia being 11 and Jason being 9. This means that Thalia only spent a year in the house with Apollo before he left, and didn’t really know him that well. She mostly just feels bad for Artemis.

Jason: 16 years old, currently a sophomore in high school. Apollo left when Jason was only 10, so he really doesn’t remember that much about him. All he remembers is that Apollo used to drive him to school when Hera was too busy (or just wouldn’t bother) and watch over him while Zeus was at work. If you were to ask Jason what he thought of Apollo before they reunited, he would have said that his brother seemed like a kind person.

I got university from the library lol but I think the first one I owned was open for business, which was a revelation at the time. I always wanted nightlife but was too afraid to ask my mom for it cause it looked SEXY. now, as an adult, can confirm nightlife is the best one. but I am a sexual deviant, so.

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing?

in my head it's like "aLIVE" but from a linguistic perspective I gotta concede that the "LIVing" pronunciation makes more sense because it's consistent with the other modes (buy/build) which are verbs not adjectives

8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?

I hate all my loser sims I guess I have a sweet spot for a child sim I made back when I was a child. She lived in a trailer, had big droopy eyes like Brittany Spears, and was named Miami.

day 2 of @bi-widower-dads‘s barduil month: fairytale AU! ...sort of

this is actually a reprisal of an AU from back in 2015--barduil grad students au, in which bard and thranduil are graduate students in biology! funnily enough, i started that au when i was still an undergrad, so seeing the past portions (linked below) as a current grad student now is... hilarious and wildly inaccurate. so this is an ‘update’ on that au, with my current four years and counting of graduate school!

in this case, bard and thranduil coordinated for their departmental halloween party--with costumes based on little red riding hood. bard definitely stole the fangs and cloak from a vampire costume, though.

Dumb bit of comic nerd shenaniganary I get my knickers in a twist about is how often people try to complain about that one time Batman and Batgirl had an awkward fling. And it's not like I ship it, it was half baked, with zero chemistry, and poorly written. But people will get all uppity about there being a problematic "age gap", which, for one, just is an immaterial thing in a work of fiction. But also it's just flat out wrong.

Bat canon is wonky at the very best of times, but there are a few anchoring events we are kind of expected to take for granted in any timeline that doesn't explicitly state otherwise:

Bruce starts Batman'ing at 25

Dick's parents die when he is 8, and in Year 2

It's not clear when Dick forms the Teen Titans, but the earliest it could be is 13, obviously.

When Barbara is introduced the Teen Titans already exist

When Barbara is introduced she works at the Gotham Libtary

Other than the 1966 TV show, this fact is extended to her having a MLIS; that's a 3 year degree, minimum.

90s continuity had her graduate high school at 16, this doesn't apply retroactively, but could be assumed of later iterations

part of her origin includes being inspired by Batman after overhearing a phonecall between Batman and Comissioner Gordon as a "teenager"

Dick drops the Robin moniker to go to college, implicitly around 17-18

Shortly after he dons the Nightwing moniker for the first time

(I'm not counting the nu52 timeline where she starts as a college undergrad because that one doesn't gel with any of the other versions and has to be its own standalone thing.)

Conveniently there is an overlap of constraints: if she is 13 in year one, the earliest she could overhear the phone conversation, and she graduates highschool early, then with 7 years of secondary education, the earliest she could debut at batgirl would be 22-23, which lines up with Dick being 16-17, nearly the latest time she can debut while he is still Robin. If she graduates HS at 18 she overshoots Dick's tenure as Robin entirely. This puts one cap on this.

But on the other hand, she can only get older than Dick if we try to nudge her timeline around. The other end of this is that if she overhears the phone call at 19, the latest she can, then she would have to spend a number of years between graduation and debut as Batgirl in order to give Dick time to form the Teen Titans at, at the earliest, 13yo. And that pushes her debut age to 25.

In either case, she is 6-12 years younger than Bruce, and conversely 12-6 year older than Dick. The split on Bruce:Dick:Babs ranging from 34:16:22 to 31:13:25. But, again, I don't think people who try to scrutinize the ""morality"" of fictional scenarios, least of all romantic age gaps, are in touch enough with reality to even warrant arguing with, but you see the problem with just the basic math, right?

She's a grown ass woman by the time she starts Bat"girl"ing and people just have this obnoxious hangup about infantilizing her all the damn time for seemingly no real reason, fans and actual creators alike. Is it because the name has "girl" in it? Is it because of some residual thing from Bette Kane being an obvious parallel to Dick? Or just the fact that they date at all? Is it just the general history sexism in superhero comics as a genre?

Also I didn't mention it because it's kinda firmly outside of consideration for this, but she even has a golden age story where part of her origins being inspired to be a superhero includes meeting Superboy as a teenager. They even dated for a hot second.

Seriously, people need to remember that she is decidedly not the same generation of heroes as the Teen Titans or even her seeming brand parallels like Super Girl or Wonder Girl --I won't try to nail down the Superfam and Batfam timelines, because they just do not play nice together, not enough to get a hard number on anyway, but Kara lands on Earth as a 17yo, vs Babs' aforementioned debut as a 20-something.

when I was a small child (13 years old) with my brand new tumblr account id see all these users in their early 20s and (in my head) be like omg get a life why do you have a fandom tumblr blog

i'm now the user in their early twenties, logging back onto my tumblr account after being inactive for quite a while...i graduated from uni last week and i'm home for the summer Doing Nothing before starting a phd in august. since I've been away for so long, please tell me: which blogs I should follow nowadays! I'm looking mainly for merlin as well general popular/humorous tumblr content but i'll leave more about myself below the cut if you know of anything that matches my other interests. feel free to self promote!

a bit more about me: I'm 22, from the usa, and used to make merlin gifs and blog pretty actively. the heyday of my posting was about 2015-18, with a resurgence in 2020 while I was at home during the pandemic. my other favorite show is twin peaks, and i've been an ironic reality tv viewer (the bachelor/ette, fboy island) for the past couple years. I started playing stardew valley in college and would like to get more into cozy video games. i love indie rock music (mitski, del water gap, soccer mommy) as well as female singer-songwriters (fiona apple, joni mitchell). in undergrad, I studied philosophy, math, and classics (and I read ancient greek). I'm reading Elena ferrante’s Neapolitan novels at the moment and loving them, and I also like reading books about the intellectual history of math and science.

hmmmmm. ok homemade wise i hosted a like easter/spring brunch for people who didn’t go home from college that weekend and we made so much food. i made like 9 loaves of rosemary bread. i love cooking w friends so it was really fun to share my kitchen w like four of my friends as we cooked for like . 20 of our other friends. pictured: half of the food we made and our dying plants lol

i didn’t really go many places this year between finishing undergrad and being unemployed. panama city beach was fun (i went w 37 people from my college team on spring break. 20hr drive down, 20hr drive back. and my car went to nyc beforehand for a track meet too lol). here’s me on the beach!!

oh wait i also went to canada w my friends after graduation i totally forgot abt that. i still think PCB wins for sheer degeneracy (walked two miles to and from waffle house at 4am for example) and good vibes, since the canada trip we had to stay inside half the week for wildfire reasons

Just for fun, here's an AyaRyo (+Alive!Sota, background Mitsugure) rock band AU//

Main time setting: mid to late 90s (band forms in 1994)

Band Name: ?? (TBD I guess, feel free to leave any suggestions~)

Band Sound: rock/punk rock/ ska-punk (In my head I picture something like No Doubt meets The Boom (a jrock band))

Band Members (age when band formed // age when band really takes off and becomes popular):

Miyagi Sota (20 // ~24 )

guitar and occasional backing vocals

played in a punk band in high school, and occasionally with other groups, but found that he did want to take this path seriously so he decided to form a group with his brother

does some song writing for the group early on, but then let's Ayako and Ryota take the lead on that later on

Miyagi Ryota (17 // ~21)

bass

tried playing with other groups in jr high and high school but didn't end up staying with them for various reasons, so thisis the first one he's really committed to

also plays some piano and does a lot of song writing for the group

he can also sing well but is shy about singing in front of others and doesn't like to sing for the band because he thinks his voice doesn't match the band's sound (which Ayako thinks is a shame)

regarding his crush on Ayako it was definitely love at first sight for him, but for the sake of the band he does his best to keep his feelings at bay (to varying degrees of success)

Ayako (17 // ~21)

lead vocals

started out by singing pop covers and was initially trying for a solo singing career

one night Sota and Ryota saw her perform and Sota boldly tried to recruit her

she turned them down at first but later on changed her mind

her one condition for joining was being able to have a strong hand in the writing process, she and Ryota end up working closely with each other on that end

Mitsui (18 // ~22)

drums

showed up for an audition that Ayako and Sota set up

formerly part of the metal band scene in high school and carried a reputation for getting into trouble/fight a lot at and outside different venues, which is the reason Ryota was adamantly against him joining at first despite him being very talented and having a great audition

used to have long hair but then cut it to show he was serious about changing his image for the band

Miyagi Anna (~19)

art school student

designs the band merch and occasionally helps to manage the merch table

doesn't play an instrument (wasn't super into it as a kid)

Yasuda "Yasu" Yasuhiro (~21)

music major (in a graduate program)-when the band needs other horn players he brings along people in his program that he knows (Shiozaki, Kakuta, Iishi, etc)

he also went to the same university as Kogure for undergrad and they became friends

best friends with Ryota since jr high

Yasuda Mayumi (~23)

Yasu's older sister (just one of his other siblings)

law school student

met the band and Sota through Yasu (goes to check up on him during when the band was starting out)

becomes friendly with Sota since they're close in age

Sota develops a crush on her but thinks she's totally out of his league since she's super cool and smart

She likes him too but doesn't think he would ever be into her like that (it's a slow burn between them)

Kogure (~22)

majored in theater design, is working as a set designer with a theater company

by coincidence he and Mitsui went to the same high school, but didn't really interact with each other back then. However, one evening in high school when Kogure was out with his friends he runs into a then drunk Mitsui fighting with one of his band members on the street. After Mitsui gets knocked out from that fight and other people leave Kogure goes to help him up and get into a taxi home (since he recognized him as someone from his school). It just so happened that it was after this fight that Mitsui decides it's time to leave his band, but he doesn't remember Kogure helping him back then.

later when he goes with some university friends, this time to just go watch local bands, he sees Mitsui again with this new band, and through Yasu gets connected with Mitsui directly

He and Mitsui become good friends and get closer...and they're in "will-they-won't-they" situation for a couple years until Mitsui confesses to Kogure and they get together

Background (Sota and Ryota)

When he was a young guy (~1970s-1980s) Miyagi's father was really into the rock music scene going on in Okinawa and was a skilled, self-taught guitar player. Outside of his usual day job he played locally in different bands, and when he married and had kids he taught both his sons guitar when they both turned ~8 years old

Sota was especially talented at picking up guitar and playing well early on, but Ryota also learned pretty quickly as well

Their father passed away when Sota was ~14 and Ryota was ~11 (a little later than in canon)

The Miyagi family moved to Kanagawa about a year later (when Sota started high school)-but for other reasons not really having to do with their dad passing (although it did partially contribute to them moving)

17. How did they join the Police?

Grace finished high school and went to a neighbouring college for her undergrad, specializing in Psychology and Sociology. She had plans to continue on to get her doctorate, but ran out of money (and Rebecca was no help, if she'd even realized what her daughter needed or was up to) so Grace decided to join the police force during an open recruitment fair to make some money at one of the (limited) job positions in her small town.

At the time, she figured it was the best way to learn a bit about the human psyche and help people, while making some money to pay for school. Months turned into years and before she knew it, she was being promoted to Detective and a psychology program somewhere else seemed like a pipe dream. The rest … is history. 😊

18. Do they prefer savoury/ sweet/ spicy?

Definitely sweet. She can't live without her morning pastry from Haley's (cherry danish, tyvm) and an extra-large coffee with a splash of some heinously sweet corn syrup and hydrogenated oil filled creamer flavour! Mason's lip is already curling in disgust at the thought.

a brain dump for nini's scream verse is below the cut. spoilers are very present but this is also severely canon divergent when it comes to a plot point in the movie. i do not suggest reading this if you have not seen the movie yet. this will also spoil season three of the scream tv show.

the beth and kirby mentioned in this brain dump are specifically the beth and kirby that i write at @maskedsocio and @wylmn respectively

okay so for this verse, nini is kirby's cousin. biologically at least, but until she was 18 and met her dad officially, she didn't know. so she decided that even though her dad wasnt really up to being her dad, she wanted to know his family, bc theyre her family, too, and if he's not against her telling his family that she's his daughter, then she's gonna try to forge those relationships bc family is important to her and hers was always so small, so.

kirby, having been in atlanta, invited nini to come stay with her for a month or so that summer after senior year and nini was so excited. she'd heard about kirby before. woodsboro was a bit far from salt lake city, of course, but she'd heard the stories. she was actually a little stunned when she learned she was related to kirby reed.

so, nini is hanging around atlanta for a couple months, and she meets a girl named beth, who kirby introduces her to. they're not that close in age, there's like... a 3/4 year difference. so basically the sam/kirby age gap (which i think has been retconned a little bit bc its been a year and now theyre saying sam is 26 but she was only only like 22-24 in the last movie, but i digress)

anyway so nini and beth kinda hit it off and then after the summer, nini heads off to nyu. since her ties arent to the scream 5 kiddos im not sending her to blackmore tbh. specifically, she's enrolled at tisch and will be pursuing drama as undergrad before pursuing a cinema studies degree as a grad student. nini doesnt really think anything of beth and goes about her life.

so here's a little canon divergence: beth should def have been dead for like 4 years at this point so im converging the scream s3 timeline w/ the scream 5/6 timelines to make this all work. therefore, after nini leaves to head to school in new york, beth commits her murders, and is "killed" (i still dont believe this and had hoped they were gonna ref her in the movie but... its fine)

so basically, some more divergence, the whole time, kirby was actually beth's mentor. while she was in the fbi, she was also connecting with beth after she was fired and declared mentally unstable (because i will be going that route for these portrayals) so nini is kinda blissfully unaware of this and they write off the atlanta murders as a copycat who was just really into the stab franchise and the true crime story of woodsboro. kirby being in the fbi benefits her because she can cover up any trace of her involvement with beth and she's one of the police officers on the scene when beth is declared "dead" (she's taken to a mental hospital where she will be for a while) but kirby decides to follow nini to nyu and start enacting her own requel/spinoff bc why not??

kirby has snapped and she's ready to avenge charlie, who she kinda sees as her guardian angel. she's definitely romanticizing the guy who killed/almost killed her and in her delusional state, she has convinced herself that they were supposed to die together, but now that she's alive, she should be continuing the legacy.

nini, for her part, is blissfully ignorant about beth's murders and kirby doesn't mention it on the phone. but when the murders begin anew in nyu and kirby comes on the scene pretending to be with the fbi, nini is happy to have her cousin back in town. she gets to know the core four + friends this way and kinda worms her way into their circle. of course, they like her, but they dont necessarily trust her, and like... of course they shouldn't, that's just good logic.

but nini is just happy to hang out with some people her own age who have a connection to kirby. and kirby doesn't let nini in on her little murderous secret, so nini gets attacked at some point and "left for dead", but also kirby calls in the attack bc thats still nini and she's no jill roberts she's not gonna leave her family to bleed out and die.

kirby does survive and there's a showdown bc the kirsch family are still involved, but she frames them all for all the murder so that she doesn't get arrested or sent to a psychiatric facility of her own like beth. but she has plans... she's kinda growing her own little online group of ghostfaces around the world to start a reign of terror. meanwhile nini really has no clue but she's def be emerging as the sidney prescott of this verse when she does realize what's going on and steps up to the plate.

Miles Martell’s earliest memories were those that took place inside an audition room. His parents were both in the entertainment industry so landing gigs wasn’t too hard. The child’s first real job was a commercial for pull ups when he was one and a half, and since then he didn’t stop working. It’s not like his parents needed the money from his acting endevors, but they loved bragging about their child’s accomplishments. Miles wasn’t the only child they got into acting either. He had an older sister too, but she wasn’t as successful as Miles. He truly was the golden child of the family.

As Miles got bigger so did his acting credits, eventually landing himself a role on a Disney Channel sitcom. Miles had just turned 13 at this point and remained on the show until he was 16 when they aired the last episode. Now Miles wasn’t as well known as his costars, but people payed attention when he started to act out. It only took a few months before Miles was seen drinking and smoking pot. He had turned into the stereotypical washed up Disney kid. Miles didn’t seem to care about the label but his parents sure did. Miles’ parents paid off media outlets to not show pictures of their kid anymore. Still that didn’t stop Miles’ from partying. This continued until the teenager was 18. Miles got caught walking down the Santa Monica pier with a beer in hand. The cops picked him up for underaged drinking. He spent a night in jail and realized he needed to pull himself together.

Miles ended up getting his high school diploma, took a gap year, and attended university at UCLA for his undergrad degree. Even with school as a distraction he had a hard time staying clean. He was surrounded by alcohol, pills, and pot everyday. He could only resist for so long. Miles quickly fell back into his old habits. Thankfully, there were no paparazzi in the frat basements he partied in. Towards the end of the year some of the other students leaked to the press that Miles was indeed partying again in college. Now that he was older however, nobody seemed to care. Miles wasn’t sure if he liked his fading limelight or not. On one hand he could do what he wanted under the radar, on the other he wouldn’t be able to do things he once could do because of his status.

Once he wrapped up undergrad, Miles decided he wanted to move somewhere quieter. Aurora Bay stuck out to him, and they had a college for him to attend. It seemed to work out perfect. He used his money to buy a nice home near the ocean. Miles has found that since moving life has been more enjoyable. He loves being able to leave his home without any worries, and has been able to form genuine connections outside of Hollywood.
