== Love Notes ==
Hey there lovelies. Boy. What a day it's been, huh?
Never thought the clowning/honking would stop. I have to say, I'm glad at least that David saw all our commentary about "if he thought there was no hope he'd say something" and did in fact say something.
It's a bit of a hard pill to swallow, I know. We're all going through the various stages of grief right now. Some of us are already progressing on at a quick rate, others are still at the beginning.
I know I've said some of this across the platforms so I apologize if you've heard it already, but I think it's important to hear.
YOU DID EVERYTHING YOU POSSIBLY COULD.
Whether it was only signing the petition, or tweeting every day for a week, or just supporting your crewmates. Every little bit to every large bit you did--
You did EVERYTHING you could.
None of this is your fault. None of this is David or the Cast's fault, and certainly none of it is the fans fault. You did everything you could, and even if it feels like it it was all for nothing, it meant so very very much.
Every Cast and Crew member got to see how much they meant to you. Smaller cast members like our friends Wendy Anderson, and Damien Gerard, and Dominic Burgess have all gotten to feel so much love from us. They've come in and participated with us in our various fuckeries, and we've gotten to know them better because of it!
Every single streaming service we targeted got to see just how much queer media means to us. So many new fans got to join us on this journey because we were loud, polite menaces, and we made a safe space for them to join us. Not just streaming services and new fans, but products, and groups too! Fucking Astroglide did watch parties with us, squishables got involved! Q+ and Pink News!
News Media ALL OVER THE DAMN PLANET looked at us and commiserated and shared their distaste for our loss.
ALL OF THAT MATTERS.
If ONE streaming service picks up a true queer show (not just queer bait) because they saw our engagement, it was worth every single tear lost.
If ONE queer kid, years from now, gets a show where they feel represented because we fought for our silly little pirate show, it was worth EVERY SINGLE EFFORT.
IF ONE of your crew-mates felt included and decided to stick around on this planet a little longer because of it, IT WAS WORTH IT.
IT MATTERS.
It already matters so much, to all of us. I get to spend every day, feeling hope in humanity because of this fandom. Every single day I come online and I see just how creative, and kind, and accepting you all are, and it gives me so much hope for the future. I feel loved again, for me, not who I pretend to be in my day to day life.
We raised money for SO MANY charities. We made LITERAL differences in people's lives. People we don't know, and who don't know us. Do you know how incredibly powerful that is?
Do you know just how much those tiny ripples cascade over this entire earth? Kindness is one of the most powerful driving forces in this world. It is not quantifiable in any way, and yet it makes such an impact.
We have some of the most amazingly talented, and resourceful, and brilliant people on the planet in this crew. That's all of you. You are absolute treasures, every single one of you.
And you know what? You didn't fucking deserve this.
You deserved your show back. You fought hard for it, and you are allowed to be angry about it. You are allowed to cry, or scream, or lie on the floor and not get up for a while. You are allowed to grieve.
Some of you haven't got there yet. Some of you are still fighting the good fight, or trying to support others, and just know lovelies, we will all be there when you struggle too.
I've said it before, but grief isn't linear, it comes in waves, and no matter how each of us proceeds tomorrow, it's going to continue to take time to heal from.
Whatever YOU NEED to cope, do it.
Do you wanna "Fuck it we ball" and keep fighting? Fucking do it.
Do you wanna go cry in a corner and take a week off? Fucking do it.
Do you wanna go hug a fellow crew-mate and tell them a goofy ass joke so they laugh? Fucking do it.
Do you wanna go read fanfiction til you pass out? Make sure to drink some water, but go fucking do it.
Do you wanna draw, or sing, or write something that gets some of this awful energy out? Well? You guessed it--Go fucking do it.
BUT a gentle reminder lovelies:
Don't go hurt anyone, they don't deserve it.
Don't hurt yourself, YOU don't deserve it.
We've got discords, and tumblr, and twitter, and dm's galore. If you need support, reach out. I know so many of your crew are reaching out to each other to send love and support, and dole out all the hugs.
Lean on each other.
We are in this together.
We still have each other, and we will continue to.
This is not the end for OFMD. Whether it gets renewed in 10 years, or gets a movie, or graphic novels, or some other medium. This is not the end. It's certainly not the end of any of the cast & crew's careers. We will have so much to support them in going forward.
This fandom, these friends, don't end with this.
Keep making your fanfiction-- write and draw your own s3! Share it! Take this wonderful piece of queer art and joy that means so much to us and keep extending its infinite universes. Write meta and discuss and laugh and cry about it. We have lost the potential for s3, but we haven't lost what we already have, which is a glorious piece of media.
We have the cast & crew who continue to support and send love, and share our artwork and stories.
We have each other.
Now I'm gonna go mama bear on you and ask you to consider some things:
Have you had any water lately? Have you had anything to eat? Have you slept? Have you gone to the bathroom lately? Have you been outside, even for a moment?
Then finally, going with one last thing. This song helped me a lot today. Maybe it'll give you some love today too.
Just Begun by WILD
Not your vibe? Are you angry? @celluloidbroomcloset reminded me of this gem today:
This isn't the end crew.
This fandom is our home. We've just begun.
== Daily Darby / Tonight's Taika ==
I realize the vibe might be off for these gifs but you deserve dopamine inducing gifs, you can fight me about it later.

Usually I don’t use rider W style decks for readings but my lovely beautiful and supportive mom who realizes I must be the most esoteric girl in college bought me another tarot deck!
Recently I’ve been trying to tap into my more “higher” tendencies. How can we reach greater heights within ourselves
Disclaimer: please take what I say with a grain of salt and not as the gospel. I just want to share some ideas of practicing and giving advice using the medium as often as I can with school, work, and my own personal studies and practice. Im going to be very busy soon next podcast ep TBD! Liking and sharing does a lot 🥰

FIC IDEA
Tumblr media
I thought I’d start putting these here instead of constantly bombing @lavraiemonchichi text messages. Feel free to find inspiration. I will 99.5% never explore these ideas any further.
The demons hack the British Library when Aziraphale is there to do some very important research in the manuscript archive. Crowley and Aziraphale have a bet/disagreement about a long ago historical event and Aziraphale NEEDS these manuscripts for proof. The demons really do it this time and not even an angels miracle can summon a document from corrupted library digital matrix.
What Instigated This: https://slate.com/podcasts/what-next-tbd/2024/01/the-impact-of-the-british-library-cyberattack
Also my heart goes out to all the doctoral students writing their dissertation in the UK since this impacts pretty much all the research libraries. It would be like the Library of Congress and the Harvard Library (and more) being out of commission in the US. For months.

3S podcast transcript. Transcriber: SocklessWonder. Air date: TBD
SCRIBBLES: Welcome to the first episode of Scribbles' Squirky Scrutiny, the podcast that examines all the quirky and weird things to be found in Sornieth. With us today--
MACUIL: "Squirky"?
SCRIBBLES: Yeah, it's a word I just coined. It's a portmanteau of silly and quirky. You like it?
MACUIL: It's, uh, something. Were you just trying to be alliterative or--
SCRIBBLES: Right! Getting back on track - we welcome to the podcast Macuil, who has just released her first book, "Suddenly Soaring in Sornieth: A Chronicle of Magical Curiosities."
Macuil, what can you tell us about your book?
MACUIL: Well, it's a book that discusses strange happenings all around Sornieth. It ranges from things like temporarily disappearing pond water all the way to how a crisis was averted at the Great Furnace last winter.
SCRIBBLES: [nodding] Oh, that sounds like a fun read! Was it fun to write? I forgot to ask: Have you had anything published before this book?
MACUIL: I haven't, no. Primarily because you rejected my short story submission at your magazine for being, what was the term? "Silly and insig--"
SCRIBBLES: Oh, ho! Look at the time! Let's take a break to hear from one of our sponsors: Boulder Breakers, er, Bashers, landscaping specialists. [music plays]
--ad--
SCRIBBLES: And we're back from that lovely message from Boulder Bashers. Keep them in mind if you need to remove a pesky stray boulder from your lair.
Macuil, writing is a tough profession, so, what made you interested in it?
MACUIL: Well, I read a lot of books as a hatchling and young dragon. I read fiction, but my passion was always non-fiction. I went to the library and read book after book, trying to discover why things were the way they were.
My parents were very supportive. They even installed a library at home in my brother's old alcove. He left our clan before I hatched, but Mother never had the heart to put another hatchling in his place.
SCRIBBLES: Oh, that's so, er, personal and emotional. Moving on! Macuil, what made you so curious about, er, curiosities? I mean, what was the impetus that drove you to eventually write a book about them?
MACUIL: Well, Scribbles, I became interested as a hatchling. I had scarcely been out of the egg a day when I saw something that didn't make sense. Now, granted, I hadn't seen much in my short amount of time in Sornieth, but I had seen the many members of my lair doing chores, writing notes, doing sporty things, and flying.
On the afternoon of my second day as a hatchling, I saw a snapper dragon. I don't remember her name. She was from a neighboring clan, but moved shortly after that day. She seemed to have been trying to find a way around a large outcropping of rocks--
SCRIBBLES: Sounds like she should have called Boulder Bashers! [giggling]
MACUIL: [giggling] Oh, yes, for sure. Oh, ho!
Well, this dragon decided to use a ramp. She built it with wood planks and it worked quite well! She went to the top of the rocks and sat, seemingly contemplating the world. I snuck up the ramp after she had seated herself. I intended to discover what it was that made her climb all the way up there.
I was about halfway up the ramp when there was a loud cracking sound. The planks were breaking with me on them!
SCRIBBLES: Oh, that certainly sounds distressing. How about we take a break to hear from our sponsor, Beach Breezers wind supply professionals?
[music plays]
--ad--
SCRIBBLES: And we are back! Remember Beach Breezers the next time you're at the beach and the lack of a breeze bums you out.
Macuil, you were telling us the ramp was about to break. Can you tell us more?
MACUIL: Unfortunately, 'oh, yes'. I shrieked and flapped my wings, but I was too young to fly.
The snapper heard me and looked down. I could see the alarm in her eyes. Her vestigial wings fluttered in frustration, but she could no more fly than could I!
SCRIBBLES: Oh, my, this is terrifying! How did you manage to make it out of there?
MACUIL: I certainly [i]felt[/i] terror! Just as the planks were about to snap completely, I heard a mighty roar. I looked up and saw the snapper. Her dark brown eyes were shining with a ferocity I'd never seen before and haven't seen since.
Suddenly, she jerked violently to the right and then to the left. She roared again. Then came the oddest thing: Her wings started to grow!
SCRIBBLES: Wow! That's not normal. How did that happen?
MACUIL: I don't know how exactly it happened, but just before they started to grow, there was a great pink and purple flash of lighting. It struck her, but it didn't harm her. I was stunned - despite my extreme youth, I knew lightning hurt.
SCRIBBLES: Wait -- you said the lightning was pink and purple? How curious!
MACUIL: Exactly!
Well, her wings grew in an instant and then she flapped them like she'd been flying her whole life and swooped in to rescue me just as the planks gave way!
[silence and then the sound of a pencil dropping on the desk]
SCRIBBLES: That-- that's so [i]exciting[/i]! What happened next? Did she say how she did it? What did your parents say about it? Oh, I'm all out of breath!
MACUIL: Well, you'll just have to read it in the book - that story is in chapter one!
SCRIBBLES: Oh! My stars! I forgot to take another sponsor break, that was so exciting. We'll be right back!
[music plays]
--ad--
SCRIBBLES: We are back - please keep Tomo's Trivia Tablet in mind when trivia pops into your head. The history of our land depends on [i]your[/i] good memory!
MACUIL: Isn't that your day job? Kind of a conflict of interest, isn't it?
SCRIBBLES: I, ah, hey! Didn't you tell me you have a book tour coming up?
MACUIL: [silence for several seconds, then a sigh] Yes. Yes, I do. The tour starts at the Highland Sanctum. There will be a reception on the cliffs overlooking the island ruins off the northeast shore. We're going to have a light luncheon and I will get to thank all of my contributors and my publisher. The book signing follows.
SCRIBBLES: That sounds lovely! Are tickets available to the general pub--
[high-pitched screeching sound and then Scribbles screams]
SCRIBBLES: It's a monster! Run! It hit my face! Not the face!
MACUIL: Calm down! It's just a bat! Why do you care about your face, anyway? This is a podcast.
[flapping sound; more screeching; Scribbles screams again; banging sounds; silence; Scribbles bellows a wordless war cry]
Stop that! You're scaring it! Scribbles, put down that cleaver! Where did you get that? Why do you even [i]have[/i] a cleaver?!
[clanging sound; flapping sounds; screeching; Scribbles screams; door slam]
MACUIL: Come, little one. Come here. Yes, that's it. I'll set you free, sweet friend. There you are - goodbye!
[gentle flapping sound fading; door bangs open]
SCRIBBLES: Where is it?! Where's the monster?! I brought backup!
[footsteps on stairs]
MACUIL: There was no monster, as I said, Scribbles. It was a bat and I released it from the window over there.
SCRIBBLES: It's still open - it could come back!
[flapping, scrambling sounds; slamming sound; cracking sound]
TOMO: What is going on here? What monster? Who is this? Is that-- is that my recording equipment? Scribbles, you know that's what I use to record my thoughts so I don't forget them. Why is it down here in the basement?
[silence; Scribbles panting]
MACUIL: Hello! I'm Macuil. Scribbles was interviewing me for their podcast when a bat flew in. It frightened them quite a bit.
TOMO: Podcast? Wait, is that why you made me recite that script? Am I one of your "sponsors"? How much are you charging?! I can't afford to pay you in treasure or gems. If you recall, you get room and board in exchange for services.
SCRIBBLES: No, it was just a filler. You don't have to-- I'm not charging you. It's free publicity! Now more dragons will help with your memory project!
TOMO: Well, that does sound nice. Is that a crack in the window pane? How hard did you slam it?
SCRIBBLES: I was keeping the monster out. It was an accident!
MACUIL: Excuse me, but are we finished with the pod--
SCRIBBLES: Oh! No! I had some more questions.
TOMO: Not now, you don't. You're going to have to go get a job to pay for that window. Shoo! Go, on!
[light flapping sound]
TOMO: Is this thing still on?
MACUIL: I think so.
TOMO: Well, there's no sense in letting a good podcast go to waste! I'd like to pick your brains a bit, Macuil. Do you have a moment to answer some questions?
[chair scooching sound; footsteps; gently shutting door]

another sundogs outtake from yesterday. I got up at 5:30 and have spent the morning reading in bed (thanks to the anon who recommended the queer conception book—just finished it and liked it a lot). I cried a bunch last night blah blah blah all these big feelings but it was at least a little bit cathartic and I feel a bit better today. I worked out a plan for the june cycle: same increased dosage and extra monitoring as last time, but I’ll also start taking supplements and will track ovulation signs myself instead of relying on the doctor’s timeline. I’m also going to use a different donor from a different bank and will request a double IUI (probably at 12 hours post trigger shot and 24-36 hours tbd). this will cost more sigh but the new bank has cheaper rates and free local delivery so it shouldn’t be prohibitively expensive. I also revisited my budget to try to put my mind at ease about expenses. I wouldn’t say my financial sitch is ideal but I’m also not actively stressed about it and I do have a backup plan (tutoring 4-5 hours a week) if I find I need more of a cushion to cover babymaking expenses.
mmkay. it’s almost 9:30 now now—what do I want to do with the day?
I would like to get up right now and take Pip over to the big field to run with the other dogs who come to play there on Sunday mornings. I will also put on my running clothes when I go to encourage myself to head back over and go for a quick run after I drop him off
easy one mile run in the lovely cool weather
meal plan for the week. actually I bet I can do this right now. I have ingredients for a pita + chickpea salad recipe that I’ll make today, and then I have a range of things in the fridge I need to use up: asparagus, pesto, ricotta, cherry tomatoes, cauliflower, feta, avocado, and maybe another random veggie or two. I also have gnocchi leftovers I can finish for lunch today. I think I’ll try to avoid a grocery run since I’m gone all next weekend. maybe I can roast the cauliflower and add that (plus a grain base?) to this chickpea salad to make it last for more meals. then I can do a simple pesto pasta dish with asparagus + cherry tomatoes to cover the rest of the week (with PB&J sandwiches and avocado toast with scrambled eggs to fill any gaps)
do an hour of background reading for work (although as always I can stop the second it starts feeling like work!)
long podcast walk with the dogs—maybe drive somewhere new today as I’m getting very bored of our usual routes
do laundry + change sheets/duvet cover
talk to liz about job search stuff later today
see if I can finish crooked kingdom (or get in a good long stretch of sustained reading… maybe I’ll put the hammock up on the back deck and read outside this afternoon

Note
Follow up to an ask I sent a few weeks ago about kitchen table cult pod—I’ve been listening more or less in order from the beginning while doing chores and driving etc. and have gotten pretty far in (I’m in the second season now, like 9 episodes into season 2). I definitely stand by my initial thoughts to a degree, but after adjusting to the conversational style a bit I think it’s definitely worth the listen if you’re patient with it and don’t expect it to be what it isn’t. Both hosts have irked me at times…one more than the other as I go further into it. Just in the same sense of like. I could see myself potentially being friends with this person, but I would often be annoyed with their mannerisms and some blind spots they’re boldly overlooking on personal segues. There’s several episodes I get frustrated with and skip over when I’m part of the way in. I’m not obsessively rewinding to catch things I’ve missed when I forget to pay attention nearly as often as other pods I’ve tried (I’m new to podcasts generally as I’m not great at auditory processing (autism/adhd) and used to find it wayy too taxing to try to take in media that way, but I digress). BUT I’ve learned about a lot of topics for the first time listening to it, and I’m pretty in the weeds on fundie stuff and cults generally etc., and that’s led me to go off on my own research tangents to explore the new info further which is cool. It’s also super interesting listening to experience of other homeschooled evangelicals that were outside of IBLP (and most of the other big movements people are aware of on here…they talk about vision forum sometimes but they don’t seem to have been deep in the weeds with any particular subgroup we talk about). IMO it’s been a pretty interesting listen so far, even if a lot of it isn’t super meaty or new. I will also say it’s clear an effort is being made as they go to be slightly more professional and structured.
Experience/substance wise I might compare it a little to why I found it worthwhile and interesting to watch alll the backlogs of the 19kac and counting on and bates shows episodes. Most of it is crap, but you got little windows of insight into things where the shows were actually really revealing without necessarily intending to be. Like it’s not all intensely thought provoking, but still interesting enough to keep going. (Sidebar for my unpopular opinion that I think Kelly was actually much much much worse…at least back in the day…than many people seem to think she is, based on watching all the bates shows esp. older episodes and how the older kids talked about her in talking head segments etc.)
Figured I’d give the update. Might send in some of the specific things I learned about while listening later TBD. For now I’ll note that the Matt Shea episodes in season 2 are particularly worth the listen. Thanks for listening to my unsolicited and lengthy review lol.
I appreciate the review/recommendations! I also struggle with absorbing information from audio/podcasts unless it's super compelling to me for whatever reason, and I remember that definitely being a thing when I listened to a few episodes of this pod. I wasn't familiar at all with the hosts and they had a super informal structure for the conversation which I remember you warned me about, and no shade to them at all for that because they were new to it (in the eps I listened to) and that also just works for some people. But they weren't great at giving context or background for anecdotes and that made me lose attention.
I'll make a note of the Matt Shea episodes and give them a listen next time I get a chance. The topic itself is completely interesting to me, for all the reasons you mentioned above, so I get frustrated that my brain has to have everything a certain way before it will focus on the information in a podcast lol. I totally want to hear from homeschooled evangelical kids about their experiences from all different kinds of backgrounds, esp not IBLP-related because I feel like I've heard a lot about that in the last few years.
Maybe after the Matt Shea episodes I'll try some of the more recent ones where they've hammered out a structure a little bit. I'm currently balls deep in one about faith healing that I think will take a minute to finish, and I've been pretty hungry for cult content lately.

New Post has been published on https://coinprojects.net/the-future-is-a-process-not-a-destination/
The future is a process, not a destination
Tumblr media
On June 10, many were surprised by the news that TBD, a subsidiary of Block, Twitter’s co-founder Jack Dorsey, announced the launch of the Web5 platform. Web 1, 2, 3 and now Web 5? But where is Web 4? Those who don’t care about number sequences can just downloaded Web 7.
Tumblr media
But first, so that no one gets behind in understanding this article, let’s quickly talk about the stages of Web evolution. If you already know the subject, you can skip to the next topic.
From the static web to the collaborative web
In the beginning, there was what we now call Web1, at that time simply known as the web. At this stage, the first websites, portals and online services were developed, and users could only read the information, without the chance of direct interaction. As no interaction was possible between users. Those who accessed the web just consumed the content made available in a web of one-way communication and, for this reason, Web1 was also called “Static Web.”
With the evolution of Web support technologies, Web2 gradually arrived with the emergence and proliferation of social networks and all the applications such as blogs, forums and podcasts that made new forms of participative communication possible.
In fact, due to the development of these new tools, users began to communicate with each other and share their own content. In this step, the user who was once just a passive actor, became the holder of the creation and management of online content, building new processes and interactions, which is why Web 2 has been dubbed the “Collaborative Web.”
When did Web3 emerge?
Just like the other stages of the web, it is difficult to pinpoint when Web3 was born. This is because Web development is a process and, as such, has no set start date. But, many argue that the idea of Web3 emerged around 2006, although the term Web3 was only coined in 2014 by Gavin Wood. It is supposed to be the next step of the internet. And, I say supposedly, because it is still in its infancy and therefore there is still no certainty of what the next stage of the Web will really be.
Tumblr media
Note that there is no single creator of Web3. It is being developed as a collaboration of different individuals and organizations building upon each other. But, overall, those involved in smart contract platforms on blockchains such as Ethereum, EOS and TRON are the ones who are admittedly leading the way in building Web3.
Related: What the hell is Web3 anyway?
It’s important to note here is that one of the most popular programming libraries used to write Ethereum code is called web3.js. And there is also a foundation, the Web3 Foundation, which is run by the founders of the Polkadot network.
Broadly speaking, the main goal of Web3 is to try to solve the biggest problem of Web2: the collection of personal data by private networks that enable surveillance capitalism, a true marketplace of future behavior.
And for this, Web3 has as its main focus of innovation to be a web of decentralized networks, not controlled by any one entity, formed by platforms that use consensus mechanisms that everyone can trust. In it, decentralized applications (DApps) would be built on top of open networks, and no entity would be able to collect data without the user’s consent, nor limit or censor anyone’s access. That is, as extracted from the Web3 Foundation’s own website, Web3 has a mission to create “a decentralized and fair internet where users control their own data, identity and destiny.”
The second focus of innovation promised by the Web3 developers is that these decentralized networks would enable the value or “money” of the internet to be transferred directly between users’ accounts, without intermediaries. And, these two features — decentralization and internet money — are still in their early stages, are the keys to understanding Web3.
However, many critics have expressed concerns about the current Web3 such as its dependence on funding from Venture Capitalists like Andreessen Horowitz, which would compromise its main focus of innovation — providing the user with a truly decentralized web.
Well, now that everyone is on the same page, let’s clarify what has certainly become the question of many after Jack Dorsey said that “Web 5” powered by Bitcoin will replace Web3.
Related: Polkadot vs. Ethereum: Two equal chances to dominate the Web3 world
Web4 is gone?
After Web3 — the term encompasses all the blockchain and decentralized technologies being built around the world — the next stage of the Web is not really a new version but is an alternative version of what we already have (Web2) or are already building (Web3).
Web4, also known as “Mobile Web,” is one that has the necessary infrastructure to adapt to the mobile environment. Imagine a web that connects all mobile devices in the real and virtual world in real-time.
Well, Web4 enables mobility and voice interaction between the user and the robots. If the focus in previous websites was on the user interacting with the internet by being in front of the desktop and in front of the computer, the focus of Web4 is on enabling the user to use and distribute information regardless of location via mobile devices.
Therefore, Web4 changes the relationship between humans and robots, which will have a symbiotic interaction. In this fourth stage of the Web, humans will have constant access to robots, and everyday life will become increasingly dependent on machines.
“Web5,” or the “Emotional Web”
Although many only heard of Web5 for the first time when headlines reported Jack Dorsey’s statement, the fact is that the term is not new.
this will likely be our most important contribution to the internet. proud of the team. #web5
(RIP web3 VCs )https://t.co/vYlVqDyGE3 https://t.co/eP2cAoaRTH
— jack (@jack) June 10, 2022
To get an idea, Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Web, gave a lecture at TED Talks in 2009 in which he already talked about Web5: “Open, connected, intelligent Web,” which he called the Emotional Web.
According to the creator of the web himself, the Web5 would be the Emotional Web. Actually, the true form of Web5 is still forming, and according to the signs we have so far, this web also known as the Symbiotic Web will be an interconnected network that communicates with us as we communicate with each other (like a personal assistant).
Tumblr media
This Web will be very powerful and totally run on (emotional) interaction between humans and computers. Interaction will become a daily habit for many people based on neurotechnology. Here it is worth mentioning that despite surveillance capitalism, currently Web2 “itself” is “emotionally” neutral, meaning that it does not perceive users’ feelings and emotions. Now, with Web5 proposing to be an emotional web, this may change in the future. An example of this is WeFeelFine, an organization that maps people’s emotions through headphones.
Along these lines, in Tim Berners-Lee’s Web5, users will interact with content that interacts with their emotions or facial recognition changes. In this context, it seems that the “Web5,” announced by Jack Dorsey, has nothing to do with the Emotional or Symbiotic Web envisioned by Tim Berners-Lee in 2009.

What Jack Dorsey’s Web5 is all about
TBD, a subsidiary within Block (formerly known as Square), was founded in July 2021 with the goal of creating “an open platform for developers” focused on decentralized finance (DeFi) and Bitcoin (BTC). Now TBD has its first goal to build “Web 5: an Extra Decentralized Web platform,” where users will have full control of their own data.
Web5: An extra decentralized web platformhttps://t.co/LDW3MZ8tON
— TBD (@TBD54566975) June 10, 2022
“This will probably be our most important contribution to the Internet. Proud of the team. (“Rest in Peace, Web3 Investors),” Dorsey said in a tweet on the morning of June 10. According to TBD’s presentation on Web5, the internet’s main problem is the lack of an “identity” layer: “In the current Web, identity and personal data are turned into the property of third parties,” and this is why Web5 will focus on decentralizing identity, data storage, as well as its applications.
TDB also claims that it will create an extra decentralized Web platform to solve this problem.

Possibilities: The future is a process, not a destination
Much of what is dismissively referred to as “false promis” by critics of Web3 seems much more challenging to achieve with Bitcoin alone — at least for now. Bitcoin’s decentralization and priority to cybersecurity come at the expense of storage space, and, above all, transaction speed — although the advances brought by the Lightning Network are promising.
In addition, some Web3 features already seem possible through layers built on top of Bitcoin. Hiro is building smart contracts using Bitcoin. Stacks was created to enable DeFi, nonfungible tokens (NFTs), apps and smart contracts in Bitcoin. Not to mention that since 2012, the equivalent of NFTs and ERC-20 tokens already exist on the Bitcoin blockchain in the form of colored coins.
Also, there are already decentralized identity solutions based on decentralized identifiers (DIDs) on Web3, such as the one developed in the Identity Overlay Network (ION) that is built using the Sidetree Protocol on top of the Bitcoin blockchain. Add to this the fact that it is unclear what alternative routes will be used for funding and building Dorsey’s new version of Web3.
Related: Identity and the Metaverse: Decentralized control
Will this new attempt by TBD to create a decentralized layer on top of the Web via the Bitcoin blockchain solve current concerns about Web3?
Of course, the more initiatives focused on achieving a decentralized web, the better for users. But, what is essential here is that such initiatives can bring together all the technical and financial resources and bright people who are committed to the hard work and effort needed to make the decentralized web happen.
The future is a process, not a destination.

hello! prepare for a long chatty life update. I went out with friends last night and it was so nice wahh. then I slept nine hours and that was glorious too. turns out this week’s sleep trouble was just my usual pre-period insomnia and not my new magic sleeping meds failing me. phew!!! I took Pip to our new vet this morning for his annual checkup and he was such a sweet boy even through the indignity of many shots. 😭😭 I love my little dog so much. also when Pip sits his front paws point outwards in a way that makes him look like he’s posing, and today the vet techs were like ‘awww how sweet! you know that’s actually a genetic deformity, right?’ I was like ummm excuse me. this is the best dog who has ever lived and he is perfectly formed in every way so think carefully about how you describe his flawless & unique paws please!! anyway he is in excellent health and three different people independently praised him for being so lean & well-conditioned. I can’t wait for fall (and/or to get him to seattle) so we can resume his preferred 70 min walks instead of the 30 min forced marches we are limited to in the summer.
then I came home and started working my way through one of the books I bought on evidence-informed learning design in training contexts. it’s interesting so far! not a lot of new content yet but it’s kind of nice to go back to basics and resolidify my understanding of core concepts/frameworks. I feel like it’s making me a bit sleeeepy though so I might just do an hour each day instead of trying to power through. I have four weeks left before new job starts… I think I just want to read two or three of these fairly dense books so I go into the first month feeling like I have an understanding of how the L&D profession overlaps with/differs from the classroom pedagogy stuff I’m more familiar with. I also want to read more about the history and structure of my government agency so I have at least a rough mental framework to fit first-month new information into. THAT SAID as psyched as I am to get started on a New Project (tackling a new job lol) I need to remind myself to also enjoy this time and try to use it to really fully decompress from the year and job search stress. it’s okay to just let myself enjoy this month of very few responsibilities.
next week I need to reach out to my current boss to let her know that I accepted the position… and I need to do that sooner rather than later because they’re starting to process my security clearance and that involves interviewing my references. I hope she isn’t upset with me for kinda changing gears after we talked last, but I’m also reminding myself that it’s normal to change jobs and that I went above and beyond trying to make things work with them… they didn’t move fast enough to make it feasible for me and it’s okay for me to make decisions that prioritize my own long-term future (because academia sure as hell won’t do that for me!). I can’t decide if I hope the grant funds come through & they let me do it as a part-time position with support staff, or if I hope it doesn’t come through and my energy is just freed up to focus on the new job + creative projects. we will see what the universe decides.
we released the first two episodes of our hockey fandom podcast yesterday and have gotten a nice response so far! I am deep in planning/research mode for future episodes and might spend the rest of the afternoon working on that. I feel like my brain is a little bit too fried still to write short things or fully dive into my new long project (I need a bit more rest/recovery I think) so I’m gonna let myself continue taking a little break from writing and instead focus on building out this other project so it’s up and running by the time the job starts. ooh and I am also going to beta a friend’s fic this weekend—tonight or tomorrow tbd.
okay let’s see. going to drive to target now to pick up a curbside order and then I think I want to lie in bed doing nothing or maybe thinking a bit about podcast planning. I have this idea that if we can create like… a planning structure of some kind? a brainstorming and research template kinda thing? it’ll help organize and streamline our prerecording thinking so we can have deeper conversations in the actual recording session. I like the idea of designing a repeatable learning exercise that will make the planning process more seamless, so if we get really busy with real life stuff we won’t have to expend as much intellectual bandwidth on the prep & planning work each week. idk just something I am kicking around we’ll see. mmkay! if I go to target I will have cherries to eat 😍 so it is time to make the quick drive over.
