Unwanted: Chapter 1, Unarmed - Pt. 3
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Avenger!Fem!Reader
Summary: When your FWB relationship with your best friend Bucky Barnes turns into something more, you couldn’t be happier. That is, however, until a new Avenger sets her sights on your super soldier and he inadvertently breaks your heart. You take on a mission you might not be prepared for to put some distance between the two of you and open yourself up to past traumas. Too bad the only one who can help you heal is the one person you can no longer trust.
Warnings: (For this part only; see Story Masterlist for general Warnings) Language, poorly translated Russian, mentions of CSA/trafficking, mentions of death, emotional repression of childhood trauma, Bucky nightmares, bonding over trauma, some fluff and comfort.
Word Count: 2.6k
Previously On...: You literally ran into Bucky in the hallway outside your rooms and bond over a shared love of Middle Earth like the fucking nerds you are. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
A/N: I know this part introduces some heavy backstory for our Dear Reader. Please know writing this for her has been a therapeutic exercise for me in dealing with trauma from my own childhood, which, coincidentally, has been shoved back into the forefront of my life recently, forcing me to re-evaluate things I thought I had processed. Please know that I'm not approaching this subject flippantly, and her reactions/attitudes have been based on my own healing (or rather, suppressing) journey.

Your friendship with Bucky only continued to grow from there. There was something about him, his quiet demeanor, his gentle sense of humor, that made you feel an immediate connection with him, as if you'd known him for ages instead of just a few weeks. You weren't one to open up to others easily; it had taken you over a year to trust that Tony didn't have any ulterior motives for befriending you, but with Bucky, it was effortless, as if you couldn't have stopped it even if you wanted to.
About three weeks into his residency at the Tower, you were exposed to your first instance of one of Bucky's nightmares. He'd told you he frequently had them, but you'd yet to experience one firsthand. You hadn't been able to sleep-- your own losing battle with insomnia--, so you were coming back up from getting a late night snack in the communal kitchen when you heard the muffled shouting coming from behind his door. At first, you were going to ignore it, sure that it was his television, but you heard him utter a single, desperate "Pozhaluysta," the sound of it so heartbreaking that your breath caught in your lungs. Please.
Crossing over to Bucky's door, you knocked softly. "Bucky? It's Pocket. Are you okay? I heard shouting." You waited for an answer... but nothing. Taking a step closer, you put an ear to the door, holding your breath. You could make out the sound of frantic thrashing, cries of "Net!" and then a whimper. He sounded like he was in trouble, like he was in pain.
"FRIDAY," you said to the AI that ran the tower, "open the door."
"I'm sorry, Ms. (Y/L/N), but Sergeant Barnes has locked his door for the evening."
"For fucks' sake, FRIDAY," you muttered. "Enact override protocol 346.78C." There was no point in being the Avenger's resident computer genius if you couldn't hack their home automation system, was there? You heard the click of Bucky's door unlocking. Turning the handle and hoping that asking him for forgiveness was easier than asking for permission, you stepped inside.
It took a moment for your eyes to adjust, but once you were able to make out shapes in the gloom of the darkened suite, you saw that the layout was relatively similar to your own. You made your way over to the bed, expecting to see Bucky writhing on it in the midst of his nightmare, but it was empty, stripped of all bedding, just a bare mattress.
Then you heard him, thrashing from the space between the bed and the wall. You shuffled over to the other side and found the super soldier lying on the floor, tangled in his sheets. A thin sheen of sweat covered his naked torso, a pair of sweat pants riding low on his hips. His face was contorted in agony as his head twisted from side to side.
"Net! Net!" he cried out in Russian, fighting off invisible assailants, "Pozhaluysta, ne nado! Eto bol'no!" No! No! Please, no! It hurts!
It physically pained your heart to see him struggling like this, so you did the first thing that came to mind-- you threw yourself across him, wrapping your arms around his body and holding him in place, whispering back to him in Russian: "Ty v poryadke, ty v poryadke. Ty v bezopasnosti. Nikto ne mozhet prichinit' tebe vred." You're okay, you're okay. You're safe. No one can hurt you. "I've got you, Bucky. You're safe."
It was a long moment before you realized that his thrashing had stopped, his heartbeat had slowed, and he had wrapped his arm around you, holding you to him as if you were a lifeline.
You pulled back, allowing him to sit up.
"Pocket?" he asked, voice laced with confusion at seeing you, as though he wasn't sure if he was actually awake or not. "What are you doing here? And... were you speaking Russian, or was I dreaming?"
Suddenly shy, you tucked a strand of hair behind your ear, avoiding looking at him. Jesus. He literally just woken up to you throwing yourself on top of him. "I-I'm sorry," you stammered. "I was walking by, and it sounded like you were having a nightmare. I was worried, so I came in to check on you. I'll let you go back to sleep. Sorry." You got up to go, but his hand reached out and encircled your wrist, gently holding you in place.
"No," he murmured, pulling you back down to the floor next to him. "You were right, I was having a nightmare. I... I told you I get them, sometimes. Memories, really. Of things Hydra... did to me. Things they... things they made me do. Thank you," he looked up at you, catching your eyes through the darkness and holding your gaze. "Thank you for waking me up, for taking me out of it."
You gulped, the night becoming far more intimate than you could have anticipated when you went downstairs to grab a pint of ice cream earlier. You forced a smile. "Of course. What are friends for?"
"Are we?" he asked, his voice suddenly low, causing a pool of warmth to collect in the bottom of your stomach. "Friends?"
"Of course, Buck." You gave him a concerned look. "Why wouldn't we be?"
"Because I'm a monster, Pocket." Bucky lowered his head in his shame. "I'm a murderer and a monster."
"Oh, Bucky, no." You took his chin into your hands and brushed a strand of hair away from his face. "Sweetie, no, you're not. You were a victim. You didn't consent to a single thing Hydra made you do. I know that it's going to take you a long time to believe that, but it's the truth. I promise you it is." He closed his eyes and nodded.
"Pocket, do you think..." he looked away from you, almost shyly, "do you think you could stay? After a nightmare, I... Well, I don't really like being alone."
"And Rogers isn’t one for midnight cuddling, huh?" you teased, a playful smile on your lips. You couldn't see it, but you could practically feel the sardonic look he was giving you. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Yes, I'll stay. But Bucky, I have one rule--"
"I'll keep my hand to myself and be a perfect gentleman, I promise," he said solemnly.
"Pfft," you scoffed. "I don't give a shit about that. Be as handsy as you want. No, my one rule is: I am not sleeping on the fucking floor." Bucky rewarded you with another one of his genuine laughs. You couldn't articulate how happy it made you feel knowing that you were the cause of that laughter.
"You got it," he said, as he stood up and began to move his sheets and pillows back to the bed. "Nothing but the best for you, doll."
Your insides glowed at this new nickname, and you were positive he was going to notice how his words made you light up in the dark. You busied yourself with helping him make up the bed before crawling under the covers. You tried not to be too obvious as you inhaled the scent of Bucky on the pillowcase. He smelled like cedar and leather and something unidentifiable that was just so quintessentially Bucky that it had become your favorite scent. You wanted to bottle it up and use it like a fabric spray so you'd always be surrounded by it.
The bed dipped as Bucky got in, pulling the covers up over himself. "Thank you for this, Pocket," he whispered.
You turned onto your side to face him. "Of course. Any time, Bucky; I sincerely mean that. I know what it's like; I have them, too."
"You do?" You felt him reach for you in the dark, taking your hand and interlacing his fingers with yours. "You can tell me about them. If you want to."
You nodded, before realizing he probably couldn't see you, so you hummed an affirmative. There was something about the cover of night that made you feel brave, safe in opening up to Bucky; you found yourself wanting to tell him what kept you awake at night. You took a deep breath.
"I... didn't have the best childhood," you began, trying to keep your voice steady. "My father took off before I was old enough to even remember what he looked like, and my mother was always more interested in getting high than she was with being a parent. I was in and out of foster care for a while when I was a little girl." Buck squeezed your hand in sympathy and you continued: "Then she got this boyfriend, Darren." God, even now, the taste of his name on your tongue was like bitter bile. "For a little while, things were… better. Mom got her shit together enough that Social Services sent me back to live with her. I could almost believe that things were going to be okay. I mean, we even stayed in the same place for more than six months. I went to school regularly. It almost made me feel like a normal kid."
"What happened?" You barely heard Bucky's whispered question. You let out a harsh, disillusioned laugh.
"Puberty," you told him. "I turned eleven, got boobs and suddenly Darren's paying a lot more attention to me." You felt Bucky tense in the bed beside you. "Of course, that's entirely my fault, right?" you continued. "At least according to my mother. They started fighting more often, and she went back to the booze and meth. Stopped giving a shit about everything. Going to work, paying bills, making sure I went to school, whether or not I even ate. Only thing that mattered was where the next fix was going to come from." You took a breath. This next part was the hardest, and Tony was the only one you'd ever told the entire truth of the matter to.
"And with Mom incapacitated, boyfriend feels he's got free reign," Bucky supplied for you.
"Yeah," you swallowed, grateful you hadn't needed to actually say it, yourself.
"Pocket," Bucky began, "that's aw--"
"There's more," you admitted before he could continue. "Darren liked to bet on horses but, like absolutely everything else he ever did, he was complete shit at it. Ended up owing some horrible guys a lot of money. There was no way in hell he'd have been able to come up with it, so he... proposed a trade."
"God," Bucky breathed. "Oh, Pocket. I am so, so sorry."
"Thanks," you said, wishing that was the end of it, but knowing that you still weren't finished. "Darren realized he had a valuable commodity that a, uh, certain kind of man would pay good money for, and he wasn't just going to let such a lucrative income stream go to waste. He was an idiot, but he wasn't that dumb."
Next to you, Bucky sucked in a breath. You could practically feel him vibrating with anger for your younger self. "How long?" he asked through gritted teeth.
"Seven years, more or less. When I turned 18, I grabbed every important document I could get my hands on, hightailed it to Boston and never looked back. But the memories, the nightmares? They still haunt me. Even after all this time, they’ve never fully gone away. So, you know, I get it."
There was silence for a moment, but then Bucky cleared his throat and asked: "Where is he now?"
"He's got himself a nice little plot of land in Pensacola," you said, a smile ghosting your face.
"So, he got off Scott-free." Bucky's voice was a low growl.
"Oh, I didn't say that, you said slyly. "That nice little plot is a pauper's grave at Pensacola Federal Prison Camp. Bastard got himself shanked in the slammer about ten years ago. Happiest day of my fucking life.
Bucky's laugh was low and dry. "What about your mom? Please tell me she got what she deserved, too."
You shifted slightly, propping your head up onto your hand. "Honestly, I have no idea what happened to her. The way she drank, she's probably long dead by now, and I could honestly not care less. That's why I have everyone call me Pocket." Bucky moved to mirror your position, using a pillow to prop himself up instead of an arm, so you were laying eye to eye, only a few inches separating your faces.
"Okay, explain to me how that makes sense," he said, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, his warm breath fanning pleasantly across your skin.
His touch was gentle and you found yourself subtly leaning into it. "My legal name is (Y/N)," you told him. "It was my mother's name, too. I know that 'Pocket's a ridiculous nickname, but when people call me that, it's like I'm someone else, someone new. I'm not that scared little girl that had all those horrible things happen to her. I'm someone I made myself into." Your voice had dropped to barely a whisper as you admitted it to him.
He studied you for a moment before speaking, voice low. "Thank you for trusting me with this, Pocket."
You let out a small laugh. "I think we might need to make each other some matching friendship bracelets or something after all of this sharing," you told him. Bucky laughed with you, and the tension that had been hovering in the air lessened. You hadn't meant to get so deep into your personal history, or to get emotional, but sharing your story with Bucky brought you a sense of relief; at the very least, you'd helped take Bucky's mind off of his own nightmares, even if it had meant delving back into your own.
You both fell silent for a moment, and then Bucky spoke again, his voice soft and hesitant. "Pocket, can I ask you something? A favor?"
You looked at him, noticing how his eyes glinted in the dark. "Yeah, of course, Bucky. What's up?"
He swallowed audibly, his grip returning to your hand. "I don't want to overstep or make you uncomfortable, so maybe this is too much to ask, but… do you think…  maybe we could… I don't know… be there for each other? You know, when we have nightmares? Just... hold each other, maybe?"
Your heart skipped a beat at his words, your mind suddenly racing with implications. Was he suggesting what you thought he was suggesting? Did he want to… cuddle with you? Your body was suddenly acutely aware of how close you were to him, of the heat that radiated off of his body. You licked your lips before answering, your voice coming out a little huskier than you intended. "I mean… I wouldn't be opposed to that. If you think it would help, then I'm all for it."
Bucky let out a small sigh of relief, his hand moving to cup your cheek, his thumb rubbing soothing circles. "Thank you, Pocket. You have no idea how much it means to me."
You leaned into his touch, a shiver running down your spine at the gentleness of it. "I think I might. I mean, I don't know exactly what you went through, but I know what it's like to feel scared and alone."
Bucky leaned in, his lips brushing against your forehead as he whispered, "Neither of us have to be alone anymore. We'll be here for each other."
And then, without another word, he wrapped his arm around you, pulling you close to his chest. You could feel the beat of his heart, steady and strong, and the warmth that radiated off of him made you feel safe, taken care of. You wrapped your arms around him in return, feeling a new sense of peace and security you hadn't known in a long, long time. Maybe ever.

Playersexual
"Playersexual" is a term I only recently learned about and it's fascinating to me. For those who don't know, it usually means a character whose sexual orientation is basically open to whatever the player happens to be playing as. Trans? Yeah they're romancible. Man? Romancible. Woman? Sure, romancible. As long as you're the player they don't really care.
I think this term, combined with playing a lotta Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield, sorta helped me come to terms with understanding why I often dislike really "open" romance systems where every character is Playersexual.
I'm a queer, bi/pansexual person, and that informs how I perceive interactions in and out of games. I totally understand the affirmation and liberation that comes with being able to romance whoever the heck you want. To some people, that's where the fun is at, and I get it. It's valid.
For me I just I feel weird when Playersexual is the orientation of characters in a game world that is also trying to get me emotionally invested. In my eyes, it tends to strip the perceived agency other characters might have; it makes them feel less like real people with wants, needs, attractions and preferences. They end up being more like a checklist or object to be interacted with until I choose all the right option and unlock the kiss or sex cutscene, or the mechanical bonus a relationship brings or whatever the case may be.
To me, characters that feel 'real' have sexual preference. Honestly I feel that if they lack that they sorta lack a fundamental element that informs them as a person and a character. Like, any queer person can tell you that when you're queer things are different. Interactions are different, how you act on the world is different, how you assess situations and the way you engage in conversations are different. Queer people interact with a predominantly straight world different than straight people do. Similarly, being a straight person in a world full of straight people affords interacting with the world fundamentally different than if you were queer. I think to say "every character is maybe queer" steamrolls this fact and sort of undermines that queer experience to an extent.
Plus I think its just like, a missed stroytelling opportunity! The straight dude turns my masc ass down because he's not interested in men? Oh hell yeah, if he's polite about it I think that's really cool! He feels like more of an actual person that way, and what might ordinarily be perceived as a 'failure to romance' feels like it could be spun into another step in our journey as friends together. Maybe we'll crack jokes about it later, or he'll have a change of heart once he gets to kmow me better. It might be awkward, but we had an experience together and set some friendly boundaries, and built an understanding. After all, people having boundaries are often what makes people people in the first place.
So when I play a character and a game tells me everyone in a game is queer, then I'm either lead to believe 1) my character is incredibly charismatic (trust me, that's not usually the case) 2) queerness doesnt exist as a concept in this universe (weird in its own way and also usually not true) 3) eh i dunno we didn't think about it too much just choose someone as a partner already (boooo!).
Look if everyone in my party has strong opinions about me pickpocketing someone and stealing 5 bucks from them, I'd expect them to have opinions about who they share a bedroll with >:(

Yandere Serial Killer
Tumblr media
Everyone was on edge. The amount of murders that occurred in your part of town amped up to a debilitating degree; to the point that the general public no longer walked outside. If the lack of people outside was bad enough, your buddy system was failing. Your roommate who worked at the same place used to walk with you from place to place only for them to recently have to move away due to family issues.
Now you are on your own.
To work. To school. To the store. You had to move as fast as you could.
No more than 30…that's what you told yourself
30 minutes to do whatever you had to do before leaving. You couldn’t keep it together any longer. Suffering from the collective paranoia of the entire town you kept to yourself, no friends, no family, you were on your own. Even the people you know that you buy things from no matter how many times they smiled at you or offered their help. They couldn’t be trusted. No one could.
“Oh (Y/n), how are you today? Everything okay on your walk over?”
It was Penn, the owner of the grocery store that was within 30 minutes. Smiley and bright before the events of the serial killer he was a known favorite. Even so you couldn’t bring yourself to say anything but the typical response.
“I’m fine.”
“How’s your jogging routine going? Are you still doing that?”
You huffed as you continued putting your items on the belt pretending to not hear the question as the same person that subjugated you to it in the first place. Before Mo you were fine with yourself exercising when you wanted and doing as you liked when you liked. But with a person like Mo there was no getting around it. Mo was your landlord, a nutty fellow that had an outward appearance of being a lovely parent over the tenants. In truth they were a crummy old person that liked to practice their helicopter parenting on everyone and her latest victim was you.
Forcing you to run ‘to fix that weight of yours’ many times you had tried to inform them about the fact this was simply your body shape but she refused to listen. Promising to lock you out of your apartment if you should ignore their ‘advice’ again; you tested them one time and ended up sleeping outside your door before they woke up.
You saw Penn make a face before ringing up the rest of your items.
“H-heym you’re looking for a roommate…”
Your head snapped up as you were finishing your payment, as you cautiously asked.
“How do you know that?”
He was blushing in embarrassment as he shuffled his feet.
“Your roommate suggested I ask you…I’m looking for a place.” Seeing the disbelief on your face he put his hands up in defense.”I-i have the money with me in cash if you want it right away.”
He seemed desperate and for as long as you’d known him never once did you question his character. Was it really okay to break your rule?
______________________________________________________________________
“Thanks so much for inviting me to take a look around (Y/n)! I really appreciate it!”
Against your better judgement you let him come over and like a puppy he dashed around taking in every bit of the apartment.
You shook your head as his eyes darted around the vacant room. A smile started to creep on your face as you thought of the possibilities…maybe he could be your new buddy. It’d be a shame if someone deprived you of that in these dangerous times.
Knock
Knock
“Hey (Y/n)! Who’s in there with you?!”
Your door unlocked and in came Mo smelling as if they dunked themselves in the worst smelling
Perfume they could find. Trudging past you they came to look at Penn who was now also looking surprised at the gremlin who let themselves in.
“Ohh my goodness is that you Penn? What are you doing here? I doubt they actually took the time to go ahead and invite you over.”
He laughed awkwardly as he sent a worried look over to you before centering back on the fast approaching landlord.
“A-actually they did. They let me come over to see the room I’ll be getting if they let me be their roommate.”
“Oh please, if you need a room I can do that and more for even half the price!”
Was your landlord really trying to hit on and steal your potential roommate? You just rolled your eyes as you leaned yourself on the nearby wall just waiting for Mo to get tired enough to show herself out. Unfortunately she didn’t plan to do that; and ended up attempting to flirt with him for nearly the whole afternoon. Looking outside it was getting dark out and you began to worry about Penn and against your better judgment you intervened.
“Uhm Mo, hey I think you should be letting Penn leave seeing as it's getting late and a serial killer is at large.”
“Oh you're such a worrywart (Y/n)! Penn’s a strong man; he'll handle himself. But if you want I can offer my room! It’s a suite–!”
“I-uh actually would rather not..if I was going to stay I definitely wouldn’t  be staying with you.”
“What?! And you’d stay with this chubby kid?”
You were going to blow it off, another statement to ignore but Penn apparently wasn’t having it. The man you’d never see so much as scrunch his eyebrows in anger held your landlord by their shoulders holding them at arm's length with a shadow on his face. Amazed and slightly worried for Mo you stepped in putting a hand on his lower back. Immediately he snapped out of it looking at you and his arms in surprise before releasing your landlord who grunted and angrily stpmped out of your door. You both sat in the silence of relief before you broke it.
“I-if you do want to stay with me for the night, I don’t mind. And if you wanted to move in that’d be cool too, that is if she still lets you.”
“Ha-ha, thanks and if it's cool I’ll totally move in. But I can get home okay,” he headed for the door before turning with one last smile towards you. “I really appreciate it. I'll text you when I get home.”
“Sure, okay bye.”
You leaned against the door before leaning a bit as you imagined him being your roommate.
Having someone around that defends you didn’t sound so bad. You shook your head as you went off to complete your chores. After all, you had to do some cleaning before your new roommate may start moving things in.
____________________________________________________________
“Hah~hah (Y/n)--(Y/n)--(Y/n)-ergh!
Disheveled and breathing heavily, Penn was sitting with his pants down in the hallway just outside your door. He tried to catch his breath while still replaying the euphoria that he felt just three minutes and 40 seconds before. Not only did he get to see your living space with the lights on but he even got to feel the plush warmth of your hand on his back. Penn growled silently as he thought of why you did but nonetheless it reminded him of his future plans for that night.
He grinned as he sent the text to you before pocketing his phone and knocking on your landlord’s door. When it opened Penn batted his eyes and puckered his lips like he’d done so many times before.
“Oh Mo, I didn’t mean to be so aggressive earlier! I was just playing with you, I do want to spend the night and I want to do it at your place.”
“Were ya? Well I’ll be, make yourself at home handsome while I freshen up.”
Penn smiled, pulling back his hair and putting on his beloved latex gloves.
“Take your time dear,” he spotted the decorative knife block on display in the kitchen.
“Take your time…”

Hi, I’ve got a question if you don’t mind answering
I’m just…. Really confused. Because our system has changed and grown so much that we realized that we were a polyfrag system since our experiences perfectly match it, but recently uh. Our gatekeeper found a whole like … sidesystem?? It’s the only term that makes sense because it’s completely separate from the “main” system even with layers and stuff it’s a whole other headspave I guess, and it turns out they have some pyramid heirarchy with themes for each tier and a lot more detail we don’t know about.
My partner got extremely concerned and told me to ask about this because … wtf there can’t be any possible way we’ve gone through ramcoa, it just doesn’t make sense ???? Like yeah I’m shaking as I type this but it doesn’t make sense we barely ‘unlocked’ past sa trauma and even then we doubt that (despite alter patterns)
I’ve got no idea what this is or who to ask since I’m not in any form of therapy and can’t get any professional help, thank you for your time in advance
-🔪
Sidesystems
Sidesystems, as in separate group of alters or multiple systems in one body, can happen to anymany. If it’s more comfortable to explore without the fear of programming, that might be better for your system right now.
Programmed or Not
Anything that happens in programmed systems can happen in nonprogrammed systems. The only difference is external control, which leads to a higher concentration of less common features. The term sidesystem in programming means the same thing, but with external control.
Some symptoms are indicative of particular traumas; flashbacks of being drugged might come with body memories of that experience, clips of cloaks or butchered animals tend to belong to RA.
But even those can be explained away, psychosomatic presentations of passive influence or detailed descriptions and photos of events.
The structuring is unusual, but not impossible. The themes are the same. Memories will be your best indicator, but those will take time and trust to get to.
For some lists of programming (mind control) and other abuse symptoms, explore https://drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/1FqT248H1e6w9P2zWheTnaMXsrvT-ZqzJ/19U3sNkCGBLTuks1ITbm8QhcPlfif5k84?usp=drive_link&sort=13&direction=a from the Legion System.
Support for Healing
You don’t necessarily need a therapist during the initial stages, but we would recommend a support friend or significant other who will learn alongside you and sit with you as you go.
It’s good to have a page of hotlines you can call, and on that list add safe people for unaware system members. Carrying a phone or keeping a calendar is also helpful. Some of the newly discovered ones may be less informed or have trauma surrounding particular dates.
Supporting Your System
If you are trusted with trauma details, you should do your best to sit with the keeper like your support people would for you. Educate yourself and provide care for them, keeping in mind you may be the first in a long time (or ever) to receive this knowledge.
Some common programming environments are high-control groups, and that can mean anything from a small cult meeting in a basement to a multinational trafficking ring. You don’t have to piece together any of that now, but you cannot perpetuate the cycle of shame on your systemmates.
No matter where you come from, abuse is awful. You might come up with recollections of forced perpetration or loss, and it is crucial that you remember it was not your fault. No one is responsible for the abuse done onto them.
You should take time to sort out your own feelings and work through the consequences of knowing. You should not be blaming anyone inside. You have the opportunity to give what these selves always needed and never got. Often, you’re giving love.
Healing Both
The basics of deprogramming are the same as healing from most maltreatment; getting through everything together. You all played a role in your survival, and now you have the chance to live.
So regardless of what this ends up being, try for compassion first. You might have more steps to take, but compassion comes first and last. You can do it. Living well takes practice, but I promise you can do it.

To My Sweetheart Who Carries A Wounded Heart Ch. 9
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Series Masterlist, Chapter 1 🤍, Chapter 2 🖤, Chapter 3 🤍, Chapter 4🖤, Chapter 5🤍, Chapter 6🖤, Chapter 7🤍, Blade & Reader's Relationship, Chapter 8🖤
Lying in bed and staring up at the ceiling, saying he had a lot on his mind would be an understatement. For some reason, His boss had given him off today a whole week in advance because “he’d be needed somewhere else.” Elio seemed to be 10 steps ahead of everything, so he didn’t question it. But what he did question is the fact that something bad happened to you, and he had time off the exact next day, which was only ever occasional. Did Elio have anything to do with your mental health? Did he play a factor in this?
No, although Blade knew the work he did was questionable and sometimes on the radar of the authorities, he knew his boss would never do something to cause people harm. (This wasn’t true, but he wouldn’t do anything that  wouldn’t benefit him or proved to be unnecessary.) But Blade swears that Elio could foresee things others can’t.
But then does that mean this is a sign? He hadn’t realized it until after he called Herta personally, informing her of the situation you had faced recently so that you could take it easy for a while. He wasn’t surprised when Herta was questioning why Blade was calling in for you, not your husband. He simply answered that it was a hard time for the couple and that he was just looking out for both. But she knew that Blade did care one bit for your husband, he proved so time & time again.
That was about two hours ago, and when Blade got up from the black sheets to go get ready for work, both Kafka & Silver Wolf messaged him through a group chat that was created by S.W. when they first started working together. He had never been the best with technology, though he’s no boomer, suffice to say. Picking up the device, he unlocked it to see what they wanted.
~
Baldie: What’s so important that you two need to spam me while I’m supposed to have a day off? User-Banned: you weren’t at work today so I hijacked my way into your calendar, didn’t know you had work off today.
He still rolls his eyes every time he reads that name. Unfortunately, no matter how many times he changed it, Silver Wolf always made her way into the system to change it back. He just let it be at that point.
Black Widow: I’m sure Elio was the one who scheduled it, with everything that’s happened, you get time off. I’m assuming you also contacted her boss? How thoughtful of you, Bladie. Baldie: How did you even- Nevermind. What do you need? User-Banned: well on the work, Kafka noticed Levi’s car while she was on the highway. Spider Lady found it weird that he was anywhere but home with the woman who holds your heart, (AKA, (Y/N), ofc.) Just to drive up a bit more and see another woman in the passenger seat.
Did he read that right? Sitting on the bed, he blinked twice before looking at the slightly dimmed screen again with eyebrows raised as he finally found the courage to sit up in bed. His teeth clenched together and his hands started trembling while the poor phone in his hand seemed to crackle, this man was not happy in the slightest.
How could that fool even leave you alone for a single moment on a day like this? Though Blade lacked experience in relationships, even he knew that couples were supposed to stick together during hard times. And with how long he’s known your husband and your vents to Blade, he can bet a million credits he didn’t tell you that we left.
Another woman?? Someone other than you? He refused to believe you would choose a partner who took amazing things they didn’t deserve for granted, a prime example of what you are. Levi couldn’t be stupid enough to betray your trust, and abandon you when you needed him the most, could he?
*Ping!* Another notification.
Black Widow: @Baldie, I’m sure Elio made you take off for a reason. Why don’t you give our lovely (Y/N) a call? I’d like to do so, as well as the others but we don’t want to overwhelm her & give her the space she needs. So who better than the one person she trusts no matter what?  Black Widow: It’s not a secret that you two are closer to each other than everyone else, and (Y/N) must feel so lonely. So why not give her a little company? Honestly, I’m baffled that she has such a man as her spouse. Stelle told me that he used to have a kind heart until he reached the stages of life, leaving him as a scumbag. Black Widow: Anyways, you know what to do Bladie. Don’t make her wait any longer. Oh, and honestly, we don’t know the full story so we can’t say for certain if he’s having an affair. So avoid much conversation about Levi.
~
Blade stared at that last message for who knows how long. Kafka seemed to understand human feelings better than anyone else he knows, even though sometimes she seems to lack them herself. But was it really appropriate to call you just to what, hang out? Within less than 24 hours of the loss of your child’s life? If he were to do that, would you be angry with him for crossing a boundary? But since when did you two have boundaries?
With all these thoughts going through his head, he really thought he was hallucinating when Blade saw your name pop up on his screen.
Incoming call.

Can I ask your top 10 fav fics ever (from any fandom, if you don't mind)?
Also, just curious, is there a story behind your name "ladypfenix "?
I don't mind at all! Thank you for waiting quite a long while though, life has been.... hectic recently, to say the least.
I'll answer the story question here, then list the fics below since there's a lot.
It's a pretty simple story, when my sister and I were 14 and 16, we had a dream of starting a youtube channel as siblings, and we were going to use noble titles. I picked LadyPfenix for mine and opened my tumblr account with that in mind, but the idea never materialized beyond usernames and it has long since outlasted that dream. At this point I've had it too long to bother changing it, even though I'm using Admiranda most other places I go. Some things just stick.
I don't know that I have a top ten fave fics ever, it's hard for me to quantify on that level, but I'll definitely lay out the ones I keep going back to years on down the line even long after I've left the fandom. There's definitely something special about them that I will always enjoy.

[A System error during execution bound you to Shi Yuan’s account instead of the intended Shen Qingqiu. We sincerely apologize.
You will be given the chance to climb from your current position of canon fodder as the story progresses and plot points become available to you. As Shi Yuan does not have an established character the OOC function is automatically unlocked, please accept this bonus as your compensation for the mistaken role.
Please ensure that no score falls below zero, or the System will automatically administer punishment.]
Intended role of Shen Qingqiu?! The fuck, were you trying to kill me? Why would anyone think transmigrating into that scum of all people would be helpful? Alright, alright. Shi Yuan takes a deep breath. He can deal with this. So he’d transmigrated into the shitty novel he’d just finished, but at least he’d somehow avoided becoming the villain. Or: Shen Yuan transmigrates into Proud Immortal Demon Way as a Bai Zhan Peak disciple.

“This is an inane discussion,” Soren said. “I’m coming with you, and that’s final.” He took a step forward and swayed. If Ike reached out and shoved with one finger, he was sure he could topple Soren right over. He kept his arms folded so he wouldn’t be tempted to try and make a point. “I’m still your commander, aren’t I?” Ike asked, raising his eyebrows. “You still trust me to make decisions?” “Yes, but, Ike –” he said. “Then you’ll do as I say, for the good of the company,” Ike said. “I won’t risk you. You’re too important.” He stepped close, adjusting the hood of Soren’s cloak. He lowered his voice so he wouldn’t be heard by Shinon and Gatrie, waiting up by the gate. “Go back to bed,” he said, his voice gentler. “I’ll be home soon.” -- Post-Path of Radiance, Ike and Soren share a promise, a first kiss, and a bed. Not in that order.

this world (what I make of it) by glitteringmoonlight
The war had consequences. Once, a fully realized Avatar referred to one who had mastered all the elements and could go into the Avatar State. Now, that has changed. No one could master fire when there was no one to teach it, and people feared the abilities of a firebender too much to allow anyone, even the Avatar, to learn too much of it. Now, an Avatar was simply said to be fully realized when their instructors decided they had learnt enough.   In which Lan Sizhui is the Avatar, but he cannot firebend, nor can he waterbend very well. That changes when his travels take him to Yiling.

Nookphone Updates (Contact List + Other New Apps)
-----------
Basic Story
You, as an employee of Nook Inc. are tasked with scouting out an island as a potential location to start a new town. When you arrive, you find out that there used to be a town here, but disaster recently struck, leaving its residents displaced and without proper guidance. The current residents live far apart and mostly fend for themselves while the rest of the island was reclaimed by nature, including the abandoned town hall. When you contact Tom Nook with updates on your situation, he decides that this is a place in need of great rejuvenation, but before they can start building, they need to bring the town back together.
And so you are tasked with making the island a pleasant place to live again, all while making friends (and maybe some enemies) along the way.
-----------
Getting Started
After establishing contact with Tom Nook, you are tasked with introducing yourself to all the current villagers. After doing so, you will be granted permission to set up your tent anywhere that's possible.
The starting area is similar to the limited starting area of the New Horizons' islands, but with more evidence that there used to be a town here, like the remnants of paths, and the abandoned town hall building.
After establishing your tent, Tom Nook will recommend that you first build trust with the other villagers and start the obligatory errands tutorial.
During said tutorial, you'll learn a little about what happened and how while the villagers are worried about one another and are all generally good people, the poor leadership of their previous mayor didn't give them the confidence to stick together, but they would like to rebuild the town if it's possible.
This tutorial, as well establishing the basic item collecting, crafting, and fetch quest systems, also establishes a new important system: relationships. As this used to be a proper town, the villagers already have some relationships with each other, and you'll learn that certain villagers like each other while others don't. It's up to you whether you want to improve everyone's relations or pick sides.
On the next proper day, Tom, Timmy, and Tommy will arrive at the island to help provide support and guide you towards finishing the "main story" quest.
At the start, like New Horizons, there are no proper shops and most tools and furniture items must be obtained through crafting.
You also start with your company Nookphone. It starts off with the same apps as in New Horizons and more are unlocked as features become available. One of the new features of note is the new "Contacts" app, which keeps track of your contacts and relationships with said contacts.
While you settle into your new island life, the Nooks are arranging for some outside help in the form of visitors from the mainland.
First, Timmy and Tommy will set up a shop where you can sell the resources you've gathered and purchase some tools and items that they've imported from the mainland.
At a certain level of progress, Tom Nook will manage to establish Dodo Airlines on the island, allowing travel to and from the island to other locations. Of prominence is "the Mainland," but eventually other locations will become available.
-----------
Building Up The Island
Like New Horizons, your primary goal of the "main quest" is to improve the quality of life on the island to inspire economic growth. This is achieved by cleaning up the island, building PWPs & other facilities, and otherwise making it a habitable place to live.
Part of this goal is achieved by re-establishing the Town Hall to be a central hub of the island to bring the community back together.
After gaining the approval of the current residents (similar to the approval system in New Leaf), you are elected as the island's representative/mayor and are able to enact community goals and projects.
You can request that villagers help by donating resources/bells towards community projects such as rebuilding the hall, funding bridges across the river(s), house rebuilding projects, etc.
On the Nook's end, once enough progress is made, they'll start inviting other business owners and friends to visit the island to hopefully establish more facilities on the island. At first, they can only get in touch with:
The Able Sisters Clothing Shop (They can set up shop here)
Blathers' of the Faraway Museum (He can set up a branch of the museum here)
The Happy Home Academy (Can start providing more home features and indirectly gets you in contact with Isabelle who can help manage the Town Hall/Community Center)
The Pelicans of the Post Office (Can start sending packages to and from the island)
Harv of Harv's Campground and its affiliates (Can set up the campsite)
These are the only required buildings/services
If you establish contacts with the business owners on the mainland, the Nooks can start contacting them too for potential business deals. These include:
Brewster of The Roost & his apprentice (Can set up "The Nest" run by the apprentice on the island)
Shiba of 1-Pup Arcade (Can start holding pop-up shops during events)
Dr. Shrunk of Club LOL and its talents (Can start sending talent like K.K. Slider to perform at the Community Center)
Label and Kicks of Labelle's Boutique (Can start sending items to be featured in the Abel's shop)
Flick & CJ (Can start visiting to buy fish & bugs from the player and host tourneys)
Phineas of his toy store (Can start visiting occasionally)
The Gyroid Flea Market (Introduces the Auction App)
*After raising the island's quality of life enough by: -Building all required buildings/Establishing services -Rebuilding every starting villager's home -Raising the villager population by at least 1 -Increasing the island's rating to at least 3 stars
You'll eventually be given the ability to terraform the island (similar to New Horizons)
-----------
The Town Hall/Convention Center
It's your primary goal to restore the town hall to become the new hub of the island.
Once it's properly rebuilt, this will be where Tom Nook establishes his housing business/services, and Isabelle will be hired to help manage town news, ordinances, and other systems, similar to New Horizons/New Leaf.
A new feature is the ability to attend/start town meetings. Here the current villagers can voice their opinions on the current standings of the town, such as suggesting new facilities/public works projects.
Major decisions like these will be held to a vote. It is possible that the player's first choice won't be chosen as the next PWP for consideration, but if they have good standing with the other villagers, it is possible to convince them to vote for the player's preference.
You can invite some of the NPCs you meet to host classes and/or demonstrations to either learn new skills or to boost public opinion of certain facilities.
You could also use the convention space to host a local auction house/trading center, which you can open to online visitors.
-----------
The Mainland
The Mainland acts similarly to the City from City Folk and Main Street from New Leaf: a place where a bunch of big buildings are kept. It can't be terraformed, but there are some things that can be changed and it takes time and certain conditions for certain buildings to unlock.
The idea is to make it possible to set up almost every city facility on your island without making it mandatory for certain features, so players that want to keep a more "natural" island can still get the city features without making them a part of their island.
Happy Home Apartments (NEW)
A new business venture by the Happy Home Academy. Managed by Digby, this facility houses up to 10 different animals who you can also form relationships with.
In functionality, apartment villagers are identical to island villagers except you don't have any authority over them.
Unlike the island, you don't have much choice in who moves into the apartments, but you can have some influence on who stays.
If your friendship is high enough, they'll tell you that they're planning on moving, and you can try to either convince them to stay in the city or move to your island.
If your friendship is too low to convince them to stay in the city or move to your island, they'll tell you their planned move out date. If you can raise their friendship high enough before that date, you can ask them again to either not move out or to move to your island.
If your friendship is super low, the animal may move out without ever telling you.
-----------
The Faraway Museum (NEW)
Curated by a new owl character, this is a large museum that is always on the lookout for new rare specimens.
Blathers starts off working here, but is invited by Tom Nook to start a branch of the museum on your island.
Like previous iterations of the museum, the Faraway Museum also has exhibits for art, aquatic life, fossils, and insects and a conservatory. However, while your museum hosts locally found items and imported art, the Faraway Museum only houses exotic items which can only be found on "expeditions." As this museum is already filled, you can learn when you can find these rare specimens to plan ahead for them.
If you build up a relationship with Blathers, he can give you an "expedition pass" to allow you to go on expeditions hosted by the Faraway Museum. This way you can obtain these rare items for either your own museum or yourself.
You only have a limited time for each expedition, and increasing your time requires that you upgrade your pass through either making contributions to your museum or participating on more expeditions.
There's a gift shop where exclusive museum themed items can be purchased.
Occasionally in the conservatory, you can meet Celeste.
If you make constellations here with her, they'll sometimes appear over your island. After making your first constellation with her, and Blathers has set up a museum on your island, you can invite her to study the stars on your island where the light pollution is very low. She'll eventually open her own conservatory in your island's museum, where you can make constellations at any time and predict meteor showers. On rare occasions, you might hear about an "alien sighting" that you can choose to investigate.
-----------
1-Pup Arcade (NEW)
A game store run by an eager Shiba Inu.
Here you can play mini games by yourself or with friends. Playing games earns you points which you can exchange for exclusive items.
Ultimate prizes include home versions of the games, and Nintendo cross-over items.
Regular items also include other aracde/entertainment style furniture.
You can also invite animal friends here to play multiplayer games with a CPU.
If you show the shopowner a non-Animal Crossing amiibo, they'll give you special items relating to that amiibo and maybe a little bit of history about the character.
If you establish a good relationship with the shop owner, they may consider opening a pop-up shop on your island.
-----------
Labelle's Boutique (NEW)
A high-end fashion store run by the Able Sister Label and assisted by new apprentice, Kicks that sells expensive clothing and accessories.
Also stocks furniture from the Gracie Grace collection + more.
You can work here part-time to help villagers find perfect outfits for either the occasion or their tastes.
If you do well enough, Label will learn that her sisters live on your island and will start sending merch to their store to sell.
Clothing rotates every week, furniture rotates every season.
The connections of focus here are on Label and her sisters as well as Label and Kicks as Label navigates being in a new mentorship role to another fledgling fashion designer, much how Gracie did to her. They often clash in debates over form (Label) vs. function (Kicks), but if you follow their story, they'll eventually reach a compromise.
-----------
Flick and CJ's Studio (NEW)
Flick made enough from commissions to open his own studio on the Mainland. Here you can request models of fish, insects, deep-sea creatures, and fossils if you bring him 3 of each (or every piece in the case of "big" fossils).
For extra bells, you can "super size" any piece to get a "grand" version of any model.
He will also dabble in original works and sell fish/insect inspired furniture and sell different pieces every week.
If you increase friendship with Flick, you can convince him to visit your island to catch bugs. While he's here, you can sell bugs to him for an increased price.
C.J. is usually out doing streams & influencing somewhere out on the mainland, but if you catch him in the Studio, you can convince him to visit your island to increase its reputation and increase the chances of a rare visitor. While visiting, you can sell your fish to him for a higher price.
If you've rebuilt the Town Hall/Community Center, then they'll host their respective tourneys too.
-----------
Phineas's Travelling Toy Store (kinda-NEW) Occasionally Phineas the prize man will appear on the mainland selling a random assortment of toys. You can only pick on per visit and the designs are random. While you can theoretically collect them all yourself, it's encouraged that you trade in the flea-market for your preferred colors.
Interactive Balls: play kick ball with your friends/animals. Be careful not to lose them in rivers.
Pinwheels/Balloons/Bubbles: fun to mess with. Be careful not to trip and break them
RC Cars/Helicopters: See your island from a different point of view. Be careful not to lose them in rivers, or high places.
Jigsaw Puzzles: Every week Phineas will have new puzzles to complete in his shop. If you complete it, you can take it to Cyrus to frame and turn it into furniture.
Baseball Set: Play catch with your friends/animals.
Marbles/Spinning Tops: Collectible. Trade with your friends to collect them all.
If you purchase enough toys, he may occasionally visit your island too.
-----------
Re-Tail
A half-flea market, half-customization shop run by the alpaca couple.
Reese handles the flea market side of the shop, which is really an online marketplace where you can buy/trade items with players all over the world.
You get a personal gyroid that you can decorate to look after your booth and you can interact with other user's gyroids.
Gyroids cycle out everyday, but you can search for gyroids holding particular items.
You can manually set prices/wanted trade items and will take care of trades when you're not online.
You can also participate in auctions.
You can set-up private trades so that only the player you want to trade with you can (similar to Nookazon)
If you have the app, you can check on how your market is doing remotely. You can also start listing items from the app and sending them over via the post office.
There are some limitations:
*Fish/Bugs cannot be traded through the Flea Market
*Gyroids have a limited amount of hold space (this can be upgraded with Bells)
Cyrus handles the customizations of items.
He can change the color of any item for a fee. He also offers exclusive customizations that are impossible to find in shops including material based customizations, such as ore, star fragments, fruit, etc.
-----------
Police Station
The police dogs Booker & Copper return as the City's police force.
They have a lost and found where you can claim items or if you know the owner you can return them to increase friendship with that villager.
Claiming items that aren't yours won't get you in trouble with the police, but it may reduce friendship with an animal if they catch you with their item, and you don't return it.
-----------
The Roost
A cafe run by Brewster. Occasionally you can catch his apprentice working here too.
You can invite friends and villagers to The Roost. Inviting villagers will help raise your friendship with them and give unique dialogue to learn more about them.
You can work part-time at the cafe to build relationships with the Mainland animals.
If you invite a lot of villagers from your island to The Roost, Brewster will consider opening a branch on your island. His apprentice will come to run the branch cafe (The Nest) and you can work part-time here too.
The Nest serves a similar function to The Roost but also offers more "experimental" recipes by the apprentice that can have different effects such as increased running speed, or increased friendship with villagers.
Brewster has an interest in gyroids. If you help him complete his collection, he'll offer exclusive cafe items in return.
-----------
Club LOL
A comedy club and music venue run by Dr. Shrunk.
Another place you can take villagers to raise friendship.
Here you can learn different emotions and dances from Dr. Shrunk in exchange for any food item.
Along with K.K., there's a cover band that also preforms. If you catch them before their set and give them a specfic food of their choice, they can teach you how to play different instruments. You can use instruments to perform songs (but you'll need to have either heard the song before or purchase the sheet music for it).
Different instruments:
*Guitar *Bass *Sax *Drums *Vocals *Keyboard *Violin *Etc.
All villagers also have a preferred instrument that they can play if invited for a "jam session."
After mastering an instrument, you can perform at the Club during "Open Mic Nights". You can invite friends or animals to perform with you.
If you establish a contact with Dr. Shrunk & the other performers, they may start appearing on your island to perform at the Community Center.
-----------
Harv's Island
Another place you can visit via Dodo Airlines. Functions similarly to how it does in New Horizons + some features from New Leaf/Pocket Camp.
-----------
The Campground
Regular villagers will occasionally camp here. If you help them set up their camp, you can exchange contact info with them to get them to move to your island and/or invite them somewhere on the Mainland.
After setting up a campsite on your own island, Harvey will trust you enough to accept pointers on how he should set up his own campgrounds. Here, you can choose to fund certain travelling sales people to set up permanent shop here.
-----------
Camp Essentials (NEW)
Already established on the island.
A new shop run by one of Harv's nieces (Cammy) which provides camping basics.
Focuses on selling campsite items for the campsite on your own island.
*Different tent/lodge styles
*Other campsite essentials such as fire pits, clothes lines, tools, etc.
The higher quality your campsite is, the more likely it is that the camper staying there will be willing to move onto the island (as opposed to leaving it completely up to RNG as in New Horizons).
-----------
Leif's Garden Wagon
Already established on the island and is the hired groundskeeper.
Sells garden type items similar to New Horizons.
Can start visiting your island after you meet him.
Also offers a weeding service: will charge a fee for every acre you want him to clean. Inversely, you could also sell him the weeds you've plucked.
If he notices that your island has a particularly high nature rating, he may offer exclusive rewards such as special tools which can help with gardening. Ex:
*Unbreakable gardening tools
*Plant food which can increase the likelihood of hybrids and rare fruit growth.
-----------
Katrina the Fortune Teller
Similar function to New Horizons: she can view your current luck and or status with any villager currently living on your island or the apartments.
Also sells "lucky" items for an inflated price.
Can remove curses from "cursed items"
Can also cast curses/charms on you/villagers for a fee. For a small fee, the effects are random, but you can pay more for a specific curse and/or charm.
Casting too many curses may increase your "wickedness" and cause you to have more bad luck more often (which can also be cured for a nominal fee).
Funding her will allow you to use her services daily
-----------
Redd's Black Market
Occasionally sets up shop here since it's "off the grid".
Sells art pieces (both real and fake) and furniture items.
Also offers a raffle game where random small prizes can be won.
Sometimes the furniture will be rare, other times it will be "common" furniture at a marked up price.
Can start visiting your island if you purchase enough items from him.
Funding him will allow him to set up shop where he will rotate his stock weekly.
-----------
Shampoodle
She does most of the management of the shop part of the island while Harvey takes care of the camp side.
While she still doesn't have a proper building of her own anymore (since players can update their looks at anytime by using a mirror), she will sometimes set up a styling tent if she feels "inspired" and offer exclusive hairstyles and accessories.
For example:
*Special Contacts: Eye shapes like hearts, stars, glitter effects, heterochromia, etc.
*Body Paint: Unnatural skin colors (Ex: hot pink, lavender, green, etc.)
*Two-Toned/Multicolored Hair
*Special Wigs
If you fund her, she will set up a permanent shop where she can style you whenever you want.
-----------
Villager Overhaul
As the relationships and autonomy of the animals is a focus in this game, each animal has an expanded number of traits from other games. An animal's preferences has a stronger effect on how well they get along with both other animals and the player. Animals who dislike certain attributes will get along less with animals which have those attributes, and likewise if they like certain attributes. All animals have opinions and preferences for:
Favorite/Least Favorite Color
Favorite/Least Favorite Style
Favorite/Least Favorite Hobby
Favorite/Least Favorite Personality
Favorite/Least Favorite Fruit/Food
Favorite/Least Favorite Music
Favorite/Least Favorite Reputations
The more they have in common with another villager, the more likely they are to befriend them. Similarly, if the player has preferences that don't match the animal's, they'll have a harder time befriending them. However, it isn't *impossible* to befriend an animal even if they dislike everything about you. Friendship can still be raised through favors or otherwise gifting them the things they do like. (However, they will make note if they know you don't like the same things that they do, but will acknowledge that you're making an effort and will try to meet you half-way).
Their relationships with each other can also affect their relationships with you: If you befriend the enemy of a villager, their opinion of you may lower, and vice versa if you befriend one their friends (though they may start to become jealous if you start spending less time with them). If you're the island rep, villagers that like you are more likely to agree with your opinion in the case of a public vote. If they don't like you or are neutral, they're more likely to vote towards their actual preference. *Besides relationships, a villager's preferences will also affect the kinds of PWPs they recommend/vote for and the kinds of gifts they give and will ask for during errands. Their hobbies will affect the kinds of activities they do and the kinds of things they'll be more helpful for. For example, a villager whose hobby is gardening will be able to help pluck more weeds than a non-gardening villager.
Reputations can also affect how a villager reacts to you and the kinds of gossip they'll spread. Villagers also have default reputations, but they can influence by the things you ask them to do for/with you. For example, even if a villager hates gardening, if you frequently ask them to help with garden tasks, they may develop a reputation for having a "green thumb" which will increase their popularity with villagers that do like gardening (at the expense of lowering your friendship with that villager since they actually still hate gardening).
-----------
Personalities
Personalities are now gender-neutral: any gender can have any personality. Every personality has 2 variants. Their base dialogue will be similar between variants of the same personality, but have differing "situational" dialogue.
Normal: Polite/Free Spirit *In General: Sweet natured and always kind to the player and other villagers. *Polite: Will always try to say the "right" thing rather than their true feelings. It can be exhausting always being the "nice" one. *Free Spirit: Spiritual types that leaves everything to fate. Believes in luck/fortune telling and will talk a lot about Feng Shui and mention a travelling fortune teller that can sometimes visit.
Peppy: Idol/Spoiled *In General: Energetic and optimistic, but can be a little careless. *Idol: Wants to become famous for something. Can be callous at first, but can become more tender with time. Will idolize K.K. Slider, Gracie Grace, and other famous people. *Spoiled: They're a little bratty and are used to getting whatever they want. Living on this small island has been teaching them that they can't always get their way. Still, they'd like it if you'd still dote on them from time to time.
Snooty: Celeb/Gossip *In General: Snobbish and rude, but tells it like it is. *Celeb: Retired actors/actresses/musicians/etc. that got a little washed out after they left their industries. They have an eye for luxuries and are still warming up to island life. Has a lot of wisdom to share about their experiences with fame. *Gossip: Interested in all things gossip. Loves to hear them and loves to spread them. Despite that, they have a strict moral code and never tell lies (if they know they're lies).
Big Sib: Rebel/Party Animal *In General: Loud, brash and rude, but they have hearts of gold. *Rebel: Has a dangerous past that they'd like to leave behind. They're having a hard time staying on the straight and narrow, but they're trying. *Party Animal: Wants to be wherever the "action" is. Very interested in DJ KK and will mention clubs they like to go to. Energetic and has no patience for anything "boring". Only tried out island life as some personal rehab. It's kind of working.
Jock: Beefcake/Personal Trainer *In General: Hot blooded and active. Can be a little too into themselves. *Beefcake: What you see is what you get. They're all about those gains and they wanna look good getting them. Every now and again they'll have a deeper thought, but it isn't often. *Personal Trainer: Very enthusiastic and focused on personal betterment. Can be rude at first, but if you show an interest, they'll offer good advice in return.
Lazy: Easy-Going/Space Cadet In General: A little absent minded, but is overall good natured. *Easy-Going: Takes life in stride and doesn't worry about much. More focused on snacks or the comic book they just bought. Is friendly enough, but takes a while to actually get personal. *Space Cadet: Seems to live in their own world where aliens are real and paintings can be totally haunted. But there's nothing to these rambles, is there?
Cranky: Hardheaded/Wizened In General: Thick skinned and sharp tongued. They say what's on their mind for better and worse. *Hardheaded: A classic grouch. Sometimes seems to be angry just for the sake of it. They're tough and no nonsense, but they respect anyone who can stand up to their bullying. *Wizened: Implied to be older than other villagers. A little grouchy about the changing the world, but otherwise has good advice and wisdom. Might complain a lot about their aching bodies and doesn't know how to use their cellphone, but given enough encouragement, they'll compromise.
Smug: Career Oriented/Fashionista *In General: Self-centered and full of themselves. Couldn't careless what you think of them. *Career Oriented: Doesn't make much time for the player and always talking about money making opportunities. If they'd slow down for a moment, they'd see how nice just enjoying life could be. *Fashionistas: Always chasing trends and trying to set them. Might talk about being an "influencer" or modeling for magazines, trying to get their name out there.
(new) Studious: Mad Scientist/Honor Student *In General: Awkward brainiacs that are a little too interested in their subjects to pay you any mind. *Mad Scientist: Possibly plotting to take over the world with their robot army. Until then, they're on the down-low, so they may appear unfriendly. If you raise friendship enough, they might start considering you their favorite "minion". *Honor Student: Acts like they're the smartest animal in town, and they probably are, but being that arrogant means they don't get along easily with others. With high friendship they may talk more about their specific interests.
(new) Gloomy: Poetic/Shy *In General: Soft spoken, and melancholic. They're not overly friendly, but they're not mean either. They'd just rather keep to themselves if possible. *Poetic: Artsy types that Will often wax lyrical about the meaning of life if you let them. Usually sees the glass as half empty and doesn't like overly friendly personalities. Likes rainy days, Jack, and anything kinda spooky and/or dark. *Shy: They're used to being ignored, due to being so quiet, so it's hard for them to open up. But they're passionate about the things they like, and they will talk your ear off if you let them.

Emulation
I've been thinking about emulators a lot recently, since getting a retro-handheld and emulating a bunch of games. I'm having a lot of fun with it, and I've been inspired in various ways - I'd love to put together a project that integrates a lot more game improvements into an emulator. Here's some of those concepts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Pictured above, Phantasy Star 1 for the Nintendo Switch, showing emulated game and extras like maps and character healths)
(1) Extra-Textual Information
I've seen a few emulators dabble in this with varying degrees, and I always find it a treat. Some things, like providing things like maps or quests that the original game didn't track for the player (due to tech limitations) or more narrative-contextual things like character portraits or illustrations from the manuals. Shout out to the WanderBar plugins developed by Legends of Localization author, Clyde Mandelin.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above, Seiken Densetsu/Final Fantasy Adventure showing emulated game and extras like enemy stats or item descriptions and illustrations from the manual)
Additions like this are important for many different reasons; more approachability to a wider audience (Truncated text like LIT3 from Final Fantasy 1 spring to mind), a richer more 'fulfilled' version of the game the artists and designers intended but couldn't represent, and accessibility features that allow differently abled people to enjoy games in an era that frankly didn't make much of an effort.
And, integration with existing walkthroughs wouldn't go awry, since older games sometimes require esoteric requirements to progress that are simply unreasonable to ask in the more modern era of game design. (Though opting in to these systems would be a necessity)
Tumblr media
(Pictured above, a screenshot of an Ascii rendering of the title of The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, from GameFaqs. Ascii you can trust!)
Honestly, I could go on and on. Things from concept art to advertisements to additional media like the Link to the Past Comic would give a more fulsome and authentic experience.
(2) Modding and User Generated Content
Really, the above are only possible via community efforts, obsessively collecting data. Thus, the ideal system for this to work within is one that in open source and has robust and well-documented modding tools.
Having used Mesen and Project64 to mess with graphics and textures, this is really powerful, but also feels like a half-measure at times, as it's still restrained within the graphics capability of those systems, and often simply a 'resolution' slider.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above, an unfinished Final Fantasy Mod replacing graphical assets with concept illustrations from Yoshitako Amano)
One thing that springs to mind is the implementation of the Diablo 2 Remaster; The developers spoke about essentially having an "API" to reach the important parts of the game's original implementation to then add extra (visual) information on top of. Things like 'player facing direction' can be added on to in order to rotate the rendered model and slerp it smoothly between those angles, something not possible in the original implementations.
Thus, the core of the game is preserved, with only the presentation changing.
This is mentioned for it's structure, obviously there's tons of labor that goes into these graphical assets that just aren't possible for a layman to create a games' worth.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above, a comparison of screenshots of Diablo 2 and Diablo 2 Remastered demonstrating the rendering-level improvements)
(3) Creativity and Freedom
The two above points really imply this third one, which is a more collective ownership by the community. Something that a system like this would unlock is the ability to remix and remaster a game in a way that could be anything - respectful to the original intent, or a wild re-imagining of what the game might look like directed by you.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above, the Boss Room from Legend of Zelda redrawn with a much higher fidelity pixel art)
(Credit to Zaebucca, apologies for reposting art without reblogging it properly. Link)
Tumblr media
(Pictured above, a Dragon Boss Fight from Golden Sun redrawn as higher quality digital art)
(Credit to Sabbitabbi, apologies for reposting art without reblogging it properly. Link)
This sort of preservation-through-community is wildly important in an era of games that have been all but abandoned by their developers (if the studios in question still exist, even) and games that are profound in shaping the genres of their era are fading away; Something that the youtuber Nerrel has touched on in various videos of his.
(4) Actually Making the Damn Thing
There have been some previous work on things like this that I really admire, but haven't really seen (or weren't built for) widespread popularity in the larger gaming sphere.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above, the dragon boss from Legend of Zelda, projected oddly into a 3D scene with a sword being thrown sideways at it)
One well meaning but obviously comedic attempt was done by Tom7 (Suckerpinch) on youtube, where an automatic system was programmed to 'convert' NES games to 3D. It's an interesting experiment but honestly proves to me that any automatic or AI assisted route is futile; that this would have to be hand tuned or developed.
A similar attempt to the above is the steam released 3dSen, which is really impressive but has similar pitfalls to other emulators described above - by systematizing the rendering, it imposes strange and unintuitive requirements on graphics that simply don't have to be constrained that way. This is caused by the automatic nature of the game (see water tiles below)
Tumblr media
(Pictured above, 3DSen screenshot showing graphical problems when rendering water tiles)
So what the heck does the ideal system look like for this sort of thing?
Tumblr media
The biggest parts of those (and I'm omitting a bunch of things, obviously) would be an emulator core with game-specific knowledge built in that's available to a scripting layer. The scripting layer in turn would interact with this and where appropriate interrupt the emulator's rendering to inject models, sounds, menus, etc.
The original game rom would not be distributed in any way, but could easily be md5 checked and verified for correct behaviour with the API. The Data Packs would ideally be a solid file (probably just a renamed zip lol) so they could be easily distributed and 'opened' by the emulator, instead of having to do tedious mod installation.
Within the data packs would be some sort of scripting initialization hooks and file organization such that resources are appropriately loaded and fed to the rendering system as needed.
Now, as for when I actually start working on this...? Whew, we'll see. But I'm hoping this resonates with some folks out there!

THEY'RE INKY
I recently figured out some stuff with my magic system in Laoche to justify the power creep of the heros and villains from Storge to the sequel series. Everyone has one of two core types of magic, either internal or externally focused. Relics are what happen when a person's magic breaks, and they put themselves back together by becoming a better person and developing new ways to adapt and access magic they never had before, guided by the spirit of the Artist. They're gifted greater powers and can eventually unlock both types of magic, and even gain power over life or death. Any ordinary mage couldn't heal wounds faster or force plants to flower, all they could do is manipulate the environment to encourage the body to heal and grow. A Relic can raise a forest over a ruined city, provide crops for a city, and revive a battlefield of wounded. They accomplish this final transformation by binding their soul to an object of their own creation, and their body changes with it.
Madelyn loses her magic when her soul is bound up in her journal, and she gradually relearns how to cast spells, and trust people, and love her friends again through the course of the story. She learns how to cast by manipulating the very ink on the pages.
Later in the story, her spellbook is stolen, she gets stabbed, mortally wounded, during a battle, taking a hit for someone she thought she hated. She bleeds black ink, and laughs maniacally. they gave her a weapon

Joe Regensburger, VP of Research, Immuta – Interview Series
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/joe-regensburger-vp-of-research-immuta-interview-series/
Joe Regensburger, VP of Research, Immuta – Interview Series
Joe Regensburger is currently the Vice President of Research at Immuta. Aleader in data security, Immuta enables organizations to unlock value from their cloud data by protecting it and providing secure access.
Immuta is architected to integrate seamlessly into your cloud environment, providing native integrations with the leading cloud vendors. Following the NIST cybersecurity framework, Immuta covers the majority of data security needs for most organizations.
Your educational background is in physics and applied mathematics, how did you find yourself eventually working in data science and analytics?
My graduate work field was Experimental High Energy Physics. Analyzing data in this field requires a great deal of statistical analysis, particularly separating signatures of rare events from those of more frequent background events. These skills are very similar to those required in data science.
Could you describe what your current role as VP of Research at data security leader Immuta entails?
At Immuta, we are focused on data security. This means we need to understand how data is being used, how it can be misused, and providing data professionals with the tools necessary to support their mission, while preventing misuse. So, our role involves understanding the demands and challenges of data professionals, particularly in regards to regulations and security, and helping solve those challenges. We want to lessen the regulatory demands, and enable data professionals to focus on their core mission. My role is to help develop solutions that lessen those burdens. This includes developing tools to discover sensitive data, methods to automate data classification, detect how data is being used, and create processes that enforce data policies to assure that data is being used properly.
What are the top challenges in AI Governance compared to traditional data governance?
Tech leaders have mentioned that AI governance is a natural next step and progression from data governance. That said, there are some key differences to keep in mind. First and foremost, governing AI requires a level of trust in the output of the AI system. With traditional data governance, data leaders used to easily be able to trace from an answer to a result using a traditional statistics model. With AI, traceability and lineage become a real challenge and the lines can be easily blurred. Being able to trust the outcome your AI model reaches can be negatively affected by hallucinations and confabulations, which is a unique challenge to AI that must be solved in order to ensure proper governance.
Do You Believe There is a Universal Solution to AI Governance and Data Security, or is it more case-specific?
“While I don’t think there is a one-size-fits-all approach to AI governance at this point as it pertains to securing data, there are certainly considerations data leaders should be adopting now to lay a foundation for security and governance. When it comes to governing AI, it’s really critical to have context around what the AI model is being used for and why. If you’re using AI for something more mundane with less impact, your risk calculator will be a lot lower. If you’re using AI to make decisions about healthcare or training an autonomous vehicle, your risk impact is much higher. This is similar to data governance; why data is being used is just as important as how it’s being used.
You recently wrote an article titled “Addressing the Lurking Threats of Shadow AI”. What is Shadow AI and why should enterprises take note of this?
“Shadow AI can be defined as the rogue use of unauthorized AI tools that fall outside of an organization’s governance framework. Enterprises need to be aware of this phenomenon in order to protect data because feeding internal data into an unauthorized application like an AI tool can present enormous risk. Shadow IT is generally well-known and relatively easy to manage once spotted. Just decommission the application and move on. With shadow AI, you don’t have a clear end-user agreement on how data is used to train an AI model or where the model is ultimately sharing its responses once generated. Essentially, once that data is in the model, you lose control over it. In order to mitigate the potential risk of shadow AI, organizations must establish clear agreements and formalized processes for using these tools if data will be leaving the environment whatsoever.
Could you explain the advantages of using attribute-based access control (ABAC) over traditional role-based access control (RBAC) in data security?”
Role-based access control (RBAC) functions by restricting permits or system access based on an individual’s role within the organization. The benefit of this is that it makes access control static and linear because users can only get to data if they are assigned to certain predetermined roles. While an RBAC model has traditionally served as a hands-off way to control internal data usage, it is by no means indestructible, and today we can see that its simplicity is also its main drawback.
RBAC was practical for a smaller organization with limited roles and few data initiatives. Contemporary organizations are data-driven with data needs that grow over time. In this increasingly common scenario, RBAC’s efficiency falls apart. Thankfully, we have a more modern and flexible option for option control: attribute-based access control (ABAC). The ABAC model takes a more dynamic approach to data access and security than RBAC. It defines logical roles by combining the observable attributes of users and data, and determining access decisions based on those attributes. One of ABAC’s greatest strengths is its dynamic and scalable nature. As data use cases grow and data democratization enables more users within organizations, access controls must be able to expand with their environments to maintain consistent data security. An ABAC system also tends to be inherently more secure than prior access control models. What’s more, this high level of data security does not come at the expense of scalability. Unlike previous access control and governance standards, ABAC’s dynamic character creates a future-proof model.”
What are the key steps in expanding data access while maintaining robust data governance and security?
Controlling data access is used to restrict the access, permissions, and privileges granted to certain users and systems that help to ensure only authorized individuals can see and use specific data sets. That said, data teams need access to as much data as possible to drive the most accurate business insights. This presents an issue for data security and governance teams who are responsible for ensuring data is adequately protected against unauthorized access and other risks. In an increasingly data-driven business environment, a balance must be struck between these competing interests. In the past, organizations tried to strike this balance using a passive approach to data access control, which presented data bottlenecks and held organizations back when it came to speed. To expand data access while maintaining robust data governance and security, organizations must adopt automated data access control, which introduces speed, agility, and precision into the process of applying rules to data. There are five steps to master to automate your data access control:
Must be able to support any tool a data team uses.
Needs to support all data, regardless of where it’s stored or the underlying storage technology.
Requires direct access to the same live data across the organization.
Anyone, with any level of expertise, can understand what rules and policies are being applied to enterprise data.
Data privacy policies must live in one central location.
Once these pillars are mastered, organizations can break free from the passive approach to data access control and enable secure, efficient, and scalable data access control.
In terms of real-time data monitoring, how does Immuta empower organizations to proactively manage their data usage and security risks?
Immuta’s Detect product offering enables organizations to proactively manage their data usage by automatically scoring data based on how sensitive it is and how it is protected (such as data masking or a stated purpose for accessing it) so that data and security teams can prioritize risks and get alerts in real-time about potential security incidents. By quickly surfacing and prioritizing data usage risks with Immuta Detect, customers can reduce time to risk mitigation and overall maintain robust data security for their data.
Thank you for the great interview, readers who wish to learn more should visit Immuta.

Maximizing the Power of Market Gardening: Discovering the Untapped Growth Potential
Tumblr media
Welcome to the world of market gardening! If you love gardening, growing fresh produce, and making a difference in your local community, then market gardening might be the perfect fit for you. In this article, we will explore the ins and outs of market gardening, including its importance for local communities, how it differs from traditional gardening, and essential considerations when planning your garden. We will also delve into innovative techniques, sustainable practices, marketing strategies, and success stories to inspire and educate those interested in pursuing market gardening. Market gardening is a unique form of small-scale farming that focuses on growing a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers, often on just a few acres or even in urban environments. The primary goal of market gardening is to sell the produce directly to customers through farmers markets, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs, local restaurants, and other channels. This direct-to-consumer approach allows market gardeners to develop strong relationships with their customers and provide fresh, high-quality produce that is often grown using organic or sustainable methods. The concept of market gardening dates back centuries and has its roots in small-scale, local agriculture. However, in recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in market gardening as more and more people recognize the value of locally grown, sustainable food systems. With a little bit of planning, hard work, and dedication, you too can become a successful market gardener and make a lasting impact on your community. Unlocking The Potential Of Market Gardening Market gardening, also known as vegetable farming, is a fascinating and fulfilling endeavor that allows individuals to cultivate their own small-scale businesses while promoting sustainability and providing fresh, local produce to their communities. As someone who has personally delved into the world of market gardening, I can attest to the countless joys and challenges that come with this pursuit. In this article, I aim to share my insights and experiences, offering guidance to those who wish to unlock the true potential of market gardening. One of the greatest advantages of market gardening lies in its scalability. Whether you have a small backyard or access to a larger plot of land, market gardening can be tailored to suit your needs and resources. Starting small allows you to learn the ropes and gradually expand, ensuring a steady and manageable growth. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will your market garden! When embarking on a market gardening journey, it is essential to develop a clear plan and set achievable goals. Determine what crops you wish to grow, taking into account your location, climate, and the demand in your local market. A thorough understanding of your target audience and their preferences will help you strategize and maximize your profits. Remember, it's not just about growing the vegetables, but also positioning them effectively in the market. One golden rule of market gardening that I have learned through trial and error is the importance of nurturing your soil. Your soil is the foundation of your success, and investing time and effort into building and maintaining its fertility will pay off in the long run. Composting, cover cropping, and proper crop rotation are just a few practices that will ensure healthy plants and bountiful harvests. Trust me, *the fertility of your soil is the secret sauce to a thriving market garden*. To truly unlock the potential of market gardening, it is crucial to cultivate a strong relationship with your customers. *Create a connection* by engaging with them at local farmers' markets, through community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs, or even online platforms. Your customers want to know the face behind the produce, the hands that lovingly tended to the plants. By establishing trust and loyalty, you will not only secure repeat business but also gain valuable feedback and insights. In the world of market gardening, it is important to embrace innovation and continuously seek new opportunities. Explore alternative marketing channels such as farm-to-table restaurants, grocery stores, or even supplying to local schools and hospitals. Diversify your offerings, experiment with unique varieties, and stand out from the crowd. *Remember, the market is a constantly evolving dance, and you must be willing to adapt and take risks*. As I reflect on my journey as a market gardener, I am reminded of the words of Henry David Thoreau: I have great faith in a seed. *Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders*. Market gardening is not merely a means to an end, but a journey filled with discovery, growth, and the wonders that nature bestows upon us. So, seize this opportunity, unlock the potential of market gardening, and let your green thumb flourish! For more in-depth information on the subject, check out this enlightening article on the benefits of market gardening: [link to related article]. Unlocking Success Through Human Design Readings: A Blueprint for Informed Decision-Making
Introduction
In an ever-evolving world, making the right decisions is a fundamental aspect of achieving success in our personal and professional lives. Many factors influence the choices we make, but one relatively new approach gaining popularity is the concept of Human Design. This unique system provides individuals with a personalized blueprint for understanding themselves better, and, in turn, making more successful decisions. In this article, we will explore the fascinating world of Human Design Reading for Successful Decisions and how they can be a valuable tool in guiding us towards success.
Understanding Human Design
Human Design is a relatively recent holistic system that combines elements of astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah, and the chakra system to create a comprehensive profile of an individual. This system was developed in the late 20th century by Robert Allan Krakower, also known as Ra Uru Hu, who claimed to receive the knowledge during a mystical experience. While it may sound esoteric, Human Design is rooted in the idea that each person has a unique design that influences their decision-making, communication, relationships, and overall life path.
The Basics of a Human Design Reading
A Human Design reading begins with the calculation of your "body graph," which is a complex chart that represents your unique design. The chart is based on the date, time, and place of your birth, making it a highly individualized tool. The body graph consists of various shapes and lines that correspond to different aspects of your personality and life. These include your type, authority, centers, and profile, all of which offer insights into how you operate in the world.
Types in Human Design
There are five primary types in Human Design, each with its own decision-making strategy:
Manifestor: Manifestors are natural initiators and are here to make things happen. Their decision-making strategy is to inform others before taking action.
Generator: Generators have a strong life force and are designed to respond to opportunities that come their way. Their strategy is to wait for something to respond to and trust their gut feelings.
Projector: Projectors are excellent guides and advisors. Their strategy involves waiting for an invitation from others before getting involved.
Reflector: Reflectors are highly sensitive to their environment, and their decision-making strategy is to take a full lunar cycle (approximately 28 days) to make major decisions.
Manifesting Generator: Manifesting Generators share characteristics with both Manifestors and Generators. They are a mix of action and response, but their strategy often involves responding to life's cues before initiating action.
The Power of Human Design in Decision-Making

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has unveiled the ten ideas he is most excited about when it comes to crypto's future, sharing hopes that developers can use the bear market to take them to the next level. On Aug. 30, the Coinbase boss shared his vision of a crypto future in a company blog post and presentation — sharing the concepts he believes have the potential to make it in the digital asset industry.“I decided to share my 10 top ideas with the hope that someone goes out and builds them,” he said before adding, “Ideas are cheap.”1/ I'm sharing the 10 ideas I'm most excited about in crypto right now. If you're building something in crypto or thinking about doing so - check it out. We’re building lots at Coinbase, but we don't have time to tackle everything. So I figured I'd share these. Bear markets are… pic.twitter.com/XKzCkMaOOT— Brian Armstrong ️ (@brian_armstrong) August 30, 2023 One of the first concepts he discussed was a “flatcoin” — a decentralized stablecoin that tracks inflation to preserve purchasing power, which could be backed by a basket of assets or use an algorithmic approach. Armstrong cited services like Ampleforth and Truflation which "offer a way to potentially track inflation on-chain today, to further decentralize it."He said something like this was necessary because people are reluctant to spend Bitcoin and fiat-backed stablecoins "suffer from inflation and seizure — just like fiat money."Another concept was “on-chain reputation” — a system that assigns reputation scores to wallet addresses or ENS names based on on-chain activity. It would be similar to Google’s PageRank and used for lending, ratings, and fraud prevention.Armstrong also highlighted the potential of “onchain ads” — the Web3 version of adverts that would pay out based on on-chain actions as opposed to Web2 ads that are view or click-based. They could have smart contracts that can specify payouts and wallets that can choose which ads to show.Coinbase crypto concepts. Source: Coinbase.com“Onchain capital formation” — another idea — was described by Armstrong as a concept that democratizes fundraising, helping the next iteration of ICOs and startups raise money on-chain in a compliant and trusted way. Armstrong acknowledged the ICO frenzy happened for a reason stating, “capital formation globally is still way too high friction,” before adding: “Democratizing fundraising could unlock tremendous latent entrepreneurial energy across the world.”Armstrong was also hopeful for a marketplace for crypto jobs and tasks, which could help people find crypto jobs globally, allowing jobs to pay in crypto and removing cross-border payment friction. Coinbase recently partnered with X (formerly Twitter) to launch a jobs posting feature.Coinbase is thrilled to partner with @X on the launch of a shiny new hiring feature - directly in our profile. Explore job opportunities while you scroll @X on mobile, desktop, and beyond.  #LiveCrypto #NowHiring pic.twitter.com/s2SHlXpMEt— Coinbase ️ (@coinbase) August 29, 2023 Armstrong’s sixth idea was “privacy for layer 2,” which brings private transactions to L2 instead of having them only on public blockchains. “There are many cases where transparency is a feature, but people do not want most transactions in the economy to be public,” he said. Other ideas included a fully on-chain peer-to-peer exchange, on-chain games with asset ownership and more real-world asset tokenization. On-chain games are already a live concept in crypto that lets players truly own in-game assets as NFTs, creating economies and metaverse worlds. Real-world asset tokenization — such as stocks, commodities, real estate, and other assets is also already used around the worldA recent report from Boston Consulting Group expected the tokenization of illiquid assets to grow into a multi-trillion-dollar sector over the next few years. Armstrong’s final idea was “Software for Network States” which are tools to help startup cities and communities manage governance, voting, taxes, and services, on-chain.
“In five years, many entrepreneurs will be looking back wishing they had started a crypto company in 2023,” he said before concluding “Bear markets are for building.” Coinbase has been gearing up for its inaugural Coinbase Ventures Builder Summit in California in October and Armstrong’s recent public appearance could be an attempt to spark interest for it. Blockchain Trading
From Traditional to Digital: How Blockchain is Reshaping the Trading Landscape!
The financial world has witnessed a monumental shift from traditional trading methods to innovative digital solutions in recent years. Blockchain trading technology is at the forefront of this transformation, a decentralized and transparent ledger system revolutionizing various industries.
This transformative technology introduces transparency, security, and efficiency like never before.
Tumblr media
Let's explore how blockchain is reshaping the trading landscape.
i. Decentralization and Trust:
Blockchain's fundamental concept of decentralization has brought a paradigm shift in how trading is conducted. Traditionally, financial transactions were facilitated through intermediaries, introducing potential delays, costs, and risks.
Tumblr media
Blockchain eliminates the need for intermediaries by creating a distributed ledger that is transparent, tamper-proof, and secure. Every transaction is recorded in a decentralized network of nodes, fostering trust and transparency previously unattainable.
ii. Transparency through Immutability:
One of the most compelling aspects of blockchain trading is its immutability. Once a transaction is recorded on the blockchain, it cannot be altered or deleted; this transparency revolutionizes trading by ensuring that all parties have access to a verifiable and tamper-proof record of transactions.
This level of transparency builds trust and reduces the chances of fraud.
iii. Smart Contracts for Automated Execution:
Smart contracts represent self-executing contracts where the agreement's terms are encoded directly into code. These contracts automatically execute transactions once specific predetermined conditions have been fulfilled.
In the trading world, smart contracts eliminate the need for intermediaries and streamline processes.
For instance, smart contracts automatically execute trades in derivatives trading when specific market conditions are reached, reducing delays and manual intervention.
iv. Efficiency and Reduced Settlement Time
:Traditional trading systems often involve multiple steps and intermediaries for trade settlement, leading to delays and increased costs.
Blockchain trading streamlines this process by providing real-time settlement capabilities. Trades settle almost instantly, minimizing counterparty risk and unlocking capital that would otherwise be tied up during the settlement period.
v. Global Accessibility:
Blockchain operates on a borderless network, making trading accessible to anyone with an internet connection. This democratization of trading opportunities enables individuals from different parts of the world to participate in previously challenging markets due to geographical barriers.
vi. Reduced Costs:
Blockchain's streamlined processes and eliminating intermediaries lead to significant cost reductions in trading.
Traditional trading involves fees for brokers, and other intermediaries. Blockchain trading minimizes these fees, making trading more cost-effective for participants.
Conclusion:
The transformation of blockchain in the trading world is more than just a technological evolution; it's a shift in the foundations of how we conduct financial transactions.
Tumblr media
While challenges remain, the potential benefits of transparency, security, efficiency, and accessibility are too significant to be ignored.
As blockchain technology matures, its impact on the trading landscape will likely continue to unfold across various industries and sectors.
