My bones tingling-

My bones are tingling while I’m thinking about you

My spine is shivering at the thought of what you might do

It’s mind blowing to think this is in my brain

Am I insane?

My hands are quivering at the thoughts that are going through my mind

Because the fear is there inside me

The fear is through my veins

And there is no fire in my belly because you put it out

I’m withering away

To the nothingness that I am

I’m giving up and ready to go

So I suppress my feelings and I start to feel numb

At what I think there is to come

I’m done with you sucking the air from my lungs

Because I find it hard to breath when your around

I find it hard to speak when I hear your sound

It’s silence

the kind that makes your bones shiver

It’s silence

The kind that makes your hands quiver

——>I wrote this poem about my own experience with panic attacks, I used to go through a lot, many a night/day at a time in my life I was going through trauma and recovering from the trauma. I’m happy to say they don’t happen for me anymore. Healing is possible <3

Behind Closed Doors I normally write a lot of erotic poetry, but I felt like getting deep tonight. I’ve been through a WHOLE lotta trauma in my life, especially as a kid. And reading these words to myself makes me realize that I have a lot of hate that I need to let go of for myself. It makes me realize that although the closure is there I need to forgive them, and myself for being so afraid to speak up. Anne Marie Wells (she | they) is an award-winning queer poet, playwright, and storyteller navigating the world with a chronic illness. She is a faculty member of the Community Literature Initiative, Strategic Partnership Fellow for The Poetry Lab, and Nonprofit manager for The Adroit Journal.
