AS FAR AS DREAMS GO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing | Arthur Morgan x fem! reader Summary | While Arthur found sanction in his dreams, you would fret about them every night. While he longed for the sweet caress of your hands, you were unknowing, fooled by his stoic facade as your dreams only brought you nightmares. Tags |  Angsty, Arthur Morgan pining for the reader, hinting at smut, intimacy, two idiots clearly in love, some sadness ensues Word Count | 10.3k A/N | Hello, lovelies! It's my second-ever fanfic; I hope you like it! Also, I got carried away, so it’s quite long (sorry)… It's loosely based on the mission with Uncle when you rob a wagon, but I have my spin on it. It’ll work more with the story this way. If you want, it can fit in with my recent fanfic about Arthur, but maybe set earlier in their “relationship.” ;D THANKS FOR READING!♡ Part two
Arthur felt you in his sleep last night.
He remembered the caress of your fingers on his icy skin, leaving scorching traces of blazing fire in its wake as your hearts collided and molded into his deepest longing. Like a strange mirror, it portrayed you as you always were: tender and loving, fiery but forgiving. But it wasn’t you; instead, it was a thought of you. Like when walking down the street and catching a glance of a person that seemed familiar, but with another look, was someone else entirely. Only in his dream-filled sleep could he allow himself the sweet torture of your presence, for in those moments, he didn’t have to think of the consequences his thoughts would bring. His dreams of you overtook his mind, whether he was willing or not. For in his mind, you had carved a path so profound that it would be etched into his senses until his last breath, clouding his sanity, never again being able to differentiate dreams from reality.
Oh, how you held him in your embrace. It made him long for the sun to disappear under the horizon once more when the warm springs of light found him in the chilly dawn. He could still feel traces of your touch in the short period between sleep and consciousness. For a brief moment, it made him question whether it was a dream or if his deepest desire had come true. You were his.
But he would wake up and find that the warmth he held in his hands had dissipated, like hot ash falling between his fingers, making Arthur attempt to dig up what remained of you from the ground. He was left aching with no relief, cold and shuddering in the chilly morning, standing over the remains of your ghost. It was like his heart had been burned with it, only coming alive once more when you returned to him at midnight.
But for you, dreams had trouble finding you at night, if they even found you at all. You could never escape reality to find sanction in the warm blanket of imagination. When dreams did reach you, memories replaced fantasy and washed over like cold, freezing water. You would fret and worry, tossing around wishing you could melt into the sheets and float to where you could become someone else. There was a time when the dreams would bring you solace, whether it was a conjecture of old memories or what your younger self would conjure up. But that was a long time ago, and you find that the older you get, those dreams drift further away. So, you had nowhere to escape, nothing to ease the hardship that daytime brought. So, sleeping is just a blink of an eye nowadays to make the night pass faster.
After a sleepless night, you sat by a tree overlooking the vast landscape. It’s quiet between the trees this morning. It brought a sense of calm to the otherwise quite hectic place. Although chilly, the wind carried a frisk waft, clearing your head. You enjoyed these mornings and often found yourself awake before the others. It’s a habit you picked up through the years, though a younger you would complain about having to rise that early in the morning. It felt like the world was entirely your own. It is even calmer in times like this, where the residents consist mainly of women when the men are out. It brought a sense of comfort to you, for they were the ones that had been kind and welcoming to you. Unfortunately, your time alone didn’t last long, for you have learned that people rose relatively early here. But the time you did get for yourself gave you a chance to ponder the time that had passed up until now.
Sean, a peculiar man, had recently been brought back from being held captive by bounty hunters soon to be transported up the Upper Montana River to a federal prison. You had immensely worried for him, finding his presence over the last few months to lighten your sometimes rather gloomy mood with his ridiculous shenanigans. Some had been unsure if going back for him posed as a good idea, but the thought of leaving him behind saddened you and many others. Somehow, you had managed to convince Arthur to lend a hand, with considerable help from Javier You knew Arthur cared for Sean, even though he’d probably rather die before admitting it.
When you first got wrapped up with these people, you admit that Arthur scared the living daylight out of you. There was a certain air around him that exuded strength and authority, never stopping short of resorting to violence. You were no stranger to what kind of man he was, what they were; neither were you of their business, but you were apprehensive of them more often than not. The womenfolk had told you countless times that Arthur could be immensely ruthless when needed and had done things that would leave your blood running cold. And you didn’t doubt them. Behind those calculating eyes and quiet demeanor lay a long life of violence and hardship. You were sure of it.
That’s why you felt stuck when it came to him. Despite all this, he was a kind man. However, he didn’t speak much when it concerned you. More so, he worked hard, and you rarely spotted him in camp. Freezing your guts out in those mountains was the longest time you had seen his face consistently. You couldn’t do more than respect him, and although apprehensive around him, you had found yourself doing it less because of his dangerous aura and more because he made chills run down your back and a warmth spread in your stomach like wildfire when he set his eyes on you. It wasn’t a fire that spread fast, destroying everything in its path and bringing misery. Instead, a fire dispersed like slow poison, mingling with your blood as it flowed through your body, claiming you bit by bit until you surrendered to its ever-so-prolonged heat.
“I heard you begged for the boys to come get me!” Time had flown by quickly, and soon, you heard the clanking of pots and the sound of steel against the wood. Sean had suddenly spoke up as he neared you, his Irish accent lacing his words heavily. Although you had missed him and didn’t want to leave him to an insufferable fate, you hadn’t forgotten his teasing. He knew very well he was exaggerating, but he wouldn’t let go of the chance to bury you in his flamboyant personality.
“That’s quite the exaggeration, Sean.” A small smile spread on your lips. “Don’t make me regret standing in favor of your return.” A snort left the red-headed man at your words. Pursing your lips, you put your gaze on him as he stood beside your seated form with his arms crossed, gazing out onto the open landscape of Horseshoe Overlook.
“Ah, how I missed ya big words and harmless threats.” You could hear a few snickers at his statement from the people gathering around the campfire. A blush covered your cheeks. You had a reputation for sounding smart sometimes, and people did not stop at anything to tease you, especially the man in front of you.
“Did ya miss me?” A cheeky grin grew on his punchable face as he raised his eyebrows, expectantly leaning closer to you.
A scoff left your lips, but you didn’t have time to answer him as the sound of hooves drew near. A certain dread always filled you at the sound. Even though you knew it most likely was someone returning to camp, you could never be too sure what state they would be in. You often worked alongside Ms. Grimshaw to help when someone got hurt, having extensive knowledge of tending to wounds and other bodily harm. It worried you, for the possibility of not being able to help someone would someday appear. Like that poor man, Davey. Luckily, you had managed to take care of Marston well enough. But he did look awful these days with that scar adorning his face; there was no denying that.
You and Sean looked up as the horses raced through the path among the trees that led to your whereabouts. You could see Dutch among them, with Arthur and Hosea. Scowls were apparent on their faces as their loud voices broke the solitude in the air, seeming to argue viciously about something.
“What’s that about?” You questioned the man beside you. “God knows, but I’d stay outta it if I were you.” He gave you a knowing look and slouched away to bother someone else. Your curiosity was piqued, but you let it be for now, raising to help Mary-Beth wash some foul shirts she was struggling with—damned Reverend.
The day continued, mindless chatter filling the space between you and the girls as you worked under Ms. Grimshaw’s sharp, watchful eyes. She had been in a terrible mood today, so her reign was relentless.
“Do you think she would be mad if we threw the clothes from the cliff edge?” A grumpy Tilly spoke up, her hands relentless as she scrubbed the fabric that never seemed to get cleaner. Sadly, it only became filthier the more she worked on it. Karen laughed as she raised her eyebrows, a mocking expression on her face. “Oh no, that won’t do for great Ms. Grimshaw. She would probably throw you right along with it.” Their laughter cut through the air, contagious as you smiled at their exchange, glancing up to see if Ms. Grimshaw had her eyes on you. But instead, your eyes found a pair of blue ones staring at you when you looked up—the brief moment left you unsure where to put your gaze after the contact broke.
You cleared your throat as you spoke quietly. “Grimshaw means well.” They groaned at you, rolling their eyes. “Sure, Miss Righteous.” They laughed again as you joined them. Before you could hinder yourself, your eyes gazed up at Arthur again, finding him staring at you again; a particular fervency lay deep within them. However, he directed his eyes away from you hastily, like you caught him doing something he shouldn’t have. Seemingly tense, the man grabs a match from his pocket, lighting its phosphorus tip from his booth’s worn leather soles. When he took a drag, he peeked at you again, his head bowed, hiding under his worn hat.
Dutch and Hosea were in a heated discussion, with Arthur listening in languidly. It probably related to what had transpired before they returned to camp. Although more collected now, there was still a tension in the air. By your observations, they were the “three main men” around here. They had been holding together most of their lives, naturally giving them authority over the gang. When they talked, you listened. Simple as that.
You touched your face discreetly, wondering if you had gotten soot from tending the fire on your cheeks again. What else could be the reason for Arthur’s stare? How embarrassing that would be. He made you somewhat uncertain already; you couldn’t possibly handle his mocking adding to that.
“I wonder what they’re talking about?” The question you asked left the girls perking their heads up and gazing at you before following your gaze, looking at the men arguing. “Yeah, it seems pretty serious,” Mary-Beth said, curious about their exchange. They had been going at it for quite a while now as evening drew closer. You observed them with intrigue. That’s when Hosea’s eyes planted on you, beckoning you over with his finger. He looked cunning as he settled leisurely in his chair, content. You gazed questingly at the girls as they shrugged their shoulders, looking as confused as you.
Dusting off your skirt, you rose from the small barrel you used as a makeshift chair and approached the men. You gave them an unsure smile, still confused, wondering what they could want to bring you into their apparent disagreement.
“Well, we have a perfect actress with us, gentlemen. I’m sure she could charm our seemingly formidable friends.” Hosea patted your arms as your feet shifted under you when he spoke up. What could they possibly be talking about? Dutch was gazing at you indescribably as Arthur stared at the table. His arms crossed, not meeting your gaze.
“Well, her damsel in distress act has saved us before.” A low chuckle left Dutch as he drummed his fingers on the wooden table.
“May I ask what you’re talking about?” As the question left you, you could see Arthur raise his head to watch you. His expression was blank, but his eyes seemed sullen, the smoke from his cigarette filling the air as he took a drag.
“Uncle’s received a tip of a supply wagon passing through carrying a payroll, lookin’ to be unguarded. They want you to help us.” His voice was quiet as he observed you, his accent thick. You had helped them on some jobs before, although only smaller ones since you weren’t as acquainted with the work as the others. You mainly had accompanied Hosea on his schemes, finding that both of you had quite the same proficiency in depicting a role. Although you had taken up some theatrics when you were a small child, you had never imagined you would use them to deceive people. You found Hosea to be a spiritful figure despite his age. When thinking about it, he reminded you immensely of your father. He was too stubborn to let himself grow old, and his spark for living and refusal to take on the habits of an older man made him seem immortal to you. But he wasn’t, which became evident to you the older you had gotten.
“Of course, if I can be of help.” You offered them a small smile, surprised they decided on you, not someone else. It didn’t seem scary for you; you would, of course, be accompanied. And they knew what they were doing, which had become apparent to you since they always managed to get out of trouble. Compared to some of the things they did, stealing from a wagon seemed mild. And with Arthur accompanying, you knew you would feel completely safe.
“S’not a good idea.” The words that left Arthur made you furrow your brows. What could be the reason for his doubt? Some parts of you understood that you might not be as proficient as the other women, but as you mentioned, playing the damsel in distress was right up your alley. And you already felt as if you were a burden around here.
He avoided your offended look as he continued, pointing his finger at Hosea. “I ain’t lettin’ h-anyone get hurt just cause Uncle got told a tip from some sad, half-witted lowlife! Now, I ain’t against looking up the lead, but we handle it without the theatrics an’ all, Hosea.”
You were about to speak up, but Dutch did before you could. “It would give you the advantage to have someone stop the wagon; that way, you have the man unguarded and on the ground.” He gave you a look-over. You leaned slightly away from his calculating gaze, his squinting eyes examining you.
“Yeah, that’ll do; let Uncle prove his worth this time. Bring Bill and Charles with ya.” With that said, he stood up from his chair and nodded at you with a beaming grin, and sauntered off. Wonder what Molly saw in him. Often, you found him to lean towards arrogancy, the way he let everyone else do his dirty work. But they all seemed to listen to him, which meant what he did gave some positive outcome.
“Trust me, Arthur, she’ll do good. And she might make up for your dumbness.” As Hosea’s chuckling figure slowly disappeared, you gazed curiously at Arthur, who was scoffing, staring after the man.
“I know how to handle myself, Arthur. And I know you know that too.”
“Sure.” He dragged out the word, voice mirroring his now grumpy mood.
“So?” You raised your eyebrows. He gave you a questioning look. “What’s the matter?” You asked.
He let out a long breath. “It ain’t safe. A random tip could be risky. It probably means someone else heard ’bout it, too, if the man was willing to give up the information. Likewise, it could be a setup. We don’t know, do we?” You leaned on the table before him, placing your hand to stead his bouncing knee. You knew what he meant. But every mission was risky, especially these days when you had law coming at you from what appeared to be every direction. Despite this, you had to do it to survive, and you wanted to show them you were capable.
“Well, I guess we’ll have to find out.” Your voice was mild, an undertone of understanding lacing your words. Even if it were Uncle’s idea, it would fall on Arthur either way if things went wrong, as it always did. And you knew he cared, even though he never showed it. Or think he didn’t show it.
He was about to speak, but a loud voice broke through your conversation. “Gotten over me that fast, has she? Already moving on to the gang’s grouch? I’m hurt. Here I walked around thinkin’ you missed me!” You gave Arthur a last look, squeezing his knee to gaze at Sean as he dramatically held his hands to his heart. Laughing at his antics, you stood up. “I’m not sure anyone missed you when you were gone, right Arthur?” You strolled off with the Irish man following you, not noticing the wistful, prolonged stare the blue-eyed man had set on you since you touched his knee with your delicate hand, the feeling of your skin leaving a fire trail he couldn’t douse.

“That’s it, Ada.” The grey coat of the Andulasian was silky under your palm as you graced her sun-warmed coat, giving her a carrot you stole from Pearson’s wagon as you distracted him with your mindless chatter the following evening. Her ears perked up at your soft voice, munching. She nickered contentedly as her mane blew under the frisk breeze that wafted around you.
“You know, you should’ve settled for a faster horse instead of an Andalusian. She’ll slow you down.” A gruff voice broke out in the otherwise calm spot as the sound of spurs clanking was accompanied by heavy footsteps. You looked up at the man, noting how he leaned lazily against the empty hitching post and put his hands on his belt. It surprised you, it did. He didn’t usually instigate a conversation with you.
“She’s fast enough, my Ada. And she’s family now, so.” You voiced your thoughts softly, hearing his statement from many others when Arthur, Dutch, and Micha returned to the desolated mining town with two horses and a crying Sadie up in Colter. The horse piqued your interest when you set your eyes on her, and Arthur kindly let you keep her for the time being, planning on selling her when they got the chance. Your disagreement was apparent, and not putting up much of a fight; he let you keep her. Hosea, too, opposed it when he saw the mare, but your stubbornness made him laugh. I’ll let you figure it out on your own then, he had told you.
“Well, at least we’ll know you’re safe if you get attacked by a snake.” A low chuckle left Arthur, still finding you’re choice of a companion foolish.
“Oh, are you making jokes now?” You looked at him as he straightened and strode towards you. “Cause if you are, it’s not very funny.” You backed away slightly, not used to him being so close. He put his gloved hand on Ada’s soft coat and patted her softly. A waft of smoke reached your nose as he stood next to you, coupled with the smell of a man who did hard labor. But amidst that, there was something else, something warmer and manlier. “Well, she’s real pretty, that’s for sure.” His gaze went down to you before he directed his gaze, fastening the tie strap you didn’t secure well enough.
You rarely saw Arthur with his hat off, his hair usually peaking out from under the well-worn leather. But he didn’t wear it this morning, and you wondered why. It blew softly in the wind, a slight beard adorning his face. It fit him well, adding to his roguish appearance. He was pretty handsome.
You didn’t realize you were observing him as he focused on your not-so-good job putting on the saddle. He didn’t seem as on edge as usual, the constant frown gone and replaced with a serene expression. Arthur didn’t look as frightening this way when he was relaxed, although his advantage in height and bulky form made up for it.
“Be careful today, yeah?” He gave you a curt nod when you replied that you would, walking over to his horse. You saw Charles walking in your direction, greeting you with a smile when he got close.
“We should head off as soon as possible; I’m worried we might miss the wagon.” His voice was calm, as it tended to be often. Sometimes, it felt like Charles was a shadow as he kept quiet, primarily to himself. He rarely got into trouble and handled things with a clear mind. You could but only like him, finding his solitude comforting and much like your own.
When Bill and Uncle appeared, you hoisted yourself into the saddle, giving Ada a soft pat before setting her in motion. Uncle had told you it was just up the road from camp, near the crossroads where an old, ruined church remained. “You ride first and hitch up the horse in the trees behind the church. We will stop near the crossroads to look for the wagon passing through as you get them to stop and get down on the ground.” Arthur said calmly, pointedly looking at you.
As you rode off, Arthur stared after you as you disappeared between the trees. The worry had settled in his stomach when Hosea brought up the idea for you to tag along. He wasn’t opposed to you doing your share in the gang, but bringing you on such a spontaneous mission made him uneasy.
“She’ll be fine, Arthur, and we’ll have our eyes on her the whole time.” Charles’s hushed voice dragged him out of his thoughts as he secured his gun on the saddle. Even though Charles seemed calm, a slight worry still tainted his words.
“Yeah, I know. It’s just…”
“I understand.” They sat in their saddles, heading out after Uncle’s lead.
“You know, after this, you will realize how much I do for this gang. Looking up this lead has not been an easy feat, gentlemen.” He looked proud in his seat, bringing his hands up like he already had secured the money. “Sure, Uncle, drinking and talking to some bum who just might be lying to you is exactly what this gang needs right now.” Uncle just scoffed at Arthur.
“You know, you should be nicer to me, Arthur, and you will be after you realize this will bring us a well-deserved fortune.”
“Yeah? And what are you going to spend it on? More booze?”
-
The church where you said goodbye to Ada was no short of run-down. Missing planks, bottles with an unnamed liquid inside, and cigarettes everywhere made you wonder what kind of people sought shelter here. You didn’t have trouble finding it because it wasn’t too far from camp like you were told. Trying not to think about leaving Ada in such an environment, you wandered towards the road you were told they would pass through.
You hid behind a tree, shielding you from anyone coming down the path. You hoped Uncle was correct; otherwise, things could go south fast. No stranger would let a hurt woman linger on the road; likewise, they wouldn’t let her stumble to the seat with a hurt leg, meaning you would get the driver on the ground. Simple but effective. You only hoped Uncle had been correct, that this would be easy.
Taking Karen’s advice to loosen a few buttons on your shirt, you revealed some of your cleavage. Make him more willing, quoting her words. The skin now exposed glows in the sunlight from the light layer of sweat coating your skin from the heat. You smile to yourself. This’ll do just fine. You run your hands on the ground to dirty up your skirt like you had been crawling in the dirt. You didn’t want to think about how hard it would be to get it out of the fabric since you likely had to clean it.
Peaking up from the tree, you could spot Arthur, Uncle, Bill, and Charles from a distance, gazing upon your spot as masks adorned their faces. Who were they trying to fool? They looked ominous where they sat on their horses. God, if the driver got the slightest look at them, he would run the other way, and the operation would be over. You felt your hands grow clammy at the suspense as your shoulders tensed, sitting on the ground as you leaned against the tree.
You took your face in your hands, massaging your temple. “Okay, wagon approaches; I frantically run out from the woods, screaming at the driver to help. He stops and steps down on the ground to ask me what’s going on, hopefully worried. I tell him I’m getting chased by a maniac, and the others will handle the rest.” You breathed out as your heart beat wildly, voicing your plan aloud. “Easy peasy, right?”
That’s when you heard it, the crunch of the wheels rolling in the ground in the distance growing louder. Taking a deep breath, you ruffled your hair slightly and leaped out from the tree, running towards the road like satan himself was after you.
“Mister, please!” Your voice shrieked out, startling the man. With an exasperated expression, you stumbled down after tripping on your skirt, getting dirtier from the mud covering the path. Holding your hand on your leg, you gazed up at the men above you who looked at you alarmed. His face was adorned with small eyes and wrinkles that depicted his old age as he had to squint to see you. It made you question why such an old man drove a fortune alone but pushed the thoughts away. “You have to help me!”
“Miss, what’s happened to ya?” Immediately, he slowed the horses, stepping down from the wagon to inspect the predicament before him. He looked friendly, just like his tone was kind, and worry filled his eyes as he jogged towards you. Kind, but foolish.
“Some men trailed me, oh some god-awful men trailed me, and when I cut through the woods with my horse, she freaked out and bucked me off!” Panic settled in your voice as you looked pleadingly at the man holding your shoulder. “Please, mister, my leg hurts awfully bad; I think it’s broken.” Tears filled your voice, choking up the words leaving your mouth. His hands found your shoulders as he kneeled. “Come here, Miss. We’ll get you home, yeah?” You nodded at him with pleading eyes.
The air around you was calm, and the wind blew softly, contrasting your shrill voice in the early morning as he helped you stand up. With your weight on his shoulders, he didn’t even have the time to turn around before the cold metal of a pistol met the back of his head.
The pistol cocked. Frozen beside you, the hands supporting you grew still as the blood on his face drained, eyes staring into yours like he could see Arthur behind him in the reflection of your eyes.
“Let’s not do that. Why don’t you step away from the woman and throw your gun on the ground?” Arthur’s cold but calm demeanor frightened even you, looking different from the man you were used to. “Real slow now.” His eyes found yours, staring from under his hat as he spoke. A chill went down your spine, now understanding why he had a reputation for coming off as frightening. Behind him, Charles was rummaging through the wagon as Uncle and Bill stood behind him on their horses, acting as lookouts as their rifles were pointed at the man beside you.
“Listen, I work for Kerosene and Tar, Leviticus Cornwall, alright?” His voice was shaking, but he still tried to scare the men. Bold. You could hear Bill curse in the distance, the name familiar to them. Judging from their reaction, it wasn’t good news, and the anxiety rose in you like wildfire again as you tried to get away from the man holding you, his presence now suffocating.
“Hey, step away from her old man.” Arthurs’s voice grew firmer as the words rumbled in his chest, pushing the gun tighter against his temple when the man grabbed your shoulders harder. When you turned your head towards the elderly man, he looked as frightened as you, shocked by how the situation had transpired.
“Hey, Arthur, I got the money!” Charle’s satisfied voice made you both look up, but as you did, the sight of horses charging towards you in the distance made your eyes widen. Your breath stuck in your throat at the picture, your pulse rising as you struggled to control your quivering palms.
“Aw, shit. Uncle!” Arthurs voiced his annoyance at the downturn of the situation as he hit the elderly man with his gun, his body falling limp beside you as he held his head in his hands. Shocked, you looked at his squirming body as he writhed on the ground. Before you could shake away the shock that nailed your feet shut, you felt a pair of arms shake your petrified form.
“Get your head straight girl!” Amidst the loud sound of hooves filling your ears from every direction, Arthur shouted at you as he grabbed the horn on the saddle and hopped onto his horse. Sitting tall, he placed his arms under yours so he could lift you. Now seated before him, the sudden motion made your head spin as the world around you stayed a constant blur.
“Bill! We’ll split up, make it harder for them to track us. You go with Charles and Uncle to the left, and we’ll go straight! Stay out of camp for awhile!” His shouting brought you back to reality, the sound of bullets heading towards you growing louder the clearer your head got. Bill shouted in agreement as he cursed loudly and took off hastily, rifle in his hands as the three escaped the scene. Making a clicking noise, Arthur urged the horse to move, the force pushing your body forward from the sudden speed. The severity of the situation dawned on you when you glanced back at the riders following you. Your heart beat heavily against your chest; the number of men chasing after you could only be likened to a whole army.
“There’s so many!” The wind wisped your hair around you as you flew through the country. You glanced back at Arthur. “Yeah, I know! But I think the others got the worst of it!” His statement did nothing to calm your racing nerves as bullets rushed past you. Boadicea’s muscles moved fervently under you as Arthur spurred her on. Fast didn’t seem like fast enough. The pace painted the world blurry as you
rode on for a long time, the skies beginning to turn dark.
After a long while following the road, Arthur steered off it and up a hill into a tightly grown forest. “I think we’re losing them!” Your voice flew in the air as the wind in your ears whistled when you looked back. Almost stumbling on a rock, you both flew forward as Arthur’s heavy weight fell on you momentarily. A choked sound left your throat as the air left you, and you heard him curse out a sorry behind you. Recovering quickly, Boadicea picked up the pace once again as you gazed behind you, trying to see if they had gained on you.
Why in the world were there so many? Maybe Arthur was right, and it was a setup. After a while, the sound of hooves slowly grew distant, the only noise being your heavy breaths intermingling as you felt the adrenalin still run through your veins.
“Shit, Arthur. What the hell was that?”
“That is why you don’t trust Uncle’s shit plans!” His voice was sharp like glass as he realized he was right like he usually was. “Foolish-minded fools, the lot of ’em!” He voiced his thoughts angrily. He was tense behind you, every move filled with a raging fury as he swiftly urged the horse forward.
“What do we do now?” You voiced your concerns worryingly. You had no idea where you were; the place was unfamiliar. It had grown chilly as the sun disappeared from the blue sky, the cold wind now apparent as the danger dissipated, and your body grew aware.
“We find somewhere to hide until the next morning; they’ll probably be out looking for us, seeing as they think we have their money.” You hoped the others were well, even though you weren’t entirely too happy with how things had transpired. If Arthur wasn’t lying, they got the worst of it. You wanted to voice your concerns but decided to keep it to yourself for the time being; not entirely too sure that’s what he wanted to hear right now.
“I know a place where we can hide. It’ll be cold, but we’ll be safe. For now.” Unbeknownst to you, he glanced down at your shivering form.
After a while, you could feel your breath calm down enough for you to relax slightly. Although you were still sitting up tensely, aware of the position you were in. Arthur was a big man, towering behind you, almost embracing you as his arms held the reigns at your sides. The warmth radiating from him was immense, and the softness of his scout jacket softened the impact of your back to his chest as the horse galloped. It did make you somewhat uncomfortable being that close to the man, but as time passed and the colder the air got, you found yourself sheepishly leaning backward to stop the chills running through your body. You hoped he wouldn’t mention it or, worse, push you away from him.
The top of your head only reached his jaw when you glanced up at him, leaning your head back slightly. He was focused on the road ahead; eyes squinted angrily as he still grumbled bitterly under his breath. The corners of your mouth raised slightly before you curled your lips under your teeth, turning to look forward. He really was a grump sometimes.
Leaning forward, you ran your fingers through Boadicea’s mane as you patted her neck to try to calm your nerves. “You know, I’ve never been good at riding horses, so thank god you’re with me. No coordination whatsoever.” You laughed, trying to distract yourself from being chased through the now-dark country. Even though you couldn’t see them anymore, they were probably still on your lead. “We should be lucky we didn’t end up in a ditch somewhere. When we stumbled over that rock, I thought we were don-”
“That’s the place over there.” His gruff voice interrupted your nervous blabbering.
Your head perked up at his mention. It wasn’t much to cheer for, run-down seeming like a compliment compared to this place. Although still standing, it looked like it would fall apart if someone as much as touched it. But it had a door, and the windows were barred, protecting it from the winds rummaging through the landscape. I guess that counts for something.
“You sure they won’t find us here?” A gust of smoke from the cold surrounded you when you spoke. Logically, if they had followed your direction, they would probably have gone rummaging through every abandoned house they encountered on the way. The only answer you got was a grunt, and you almost rolled your eyes at him. What splendid company you would have for the rest of the night. Although, he had been right about the whole ordeal, so it wasn’t hard for you to see where he came from. If your previous thought had been correct, all of this would fall on Arthur. With him being in higher authority in the gang, he also held more responsibility and had to make sure the plans went along smoothly.
As you approached the cabin hastily, he stopped the horse in a quick motion, the dirt flying in the air as it surrounded you both. Hopping down from the saddle, he patted Boadicea gently on the neck. “Come ‘ere.” His hands went around your waist as he hoisted you down from the tall animal, fingers squeezing subtly around your waist as he steadied you on the ground, avoiding your gaze.
“Why don’t you hitch her up by the door? I’ll have a quick look in the cabin.” As he pointed to Boadicea, you gave him a curt nod as you did what he asked. “Will she be alright out here all night?” You blurted out as you fastened the rope against one of the planks in the fence surrounding the cabin’s front porch. A distant reassurance from Arthur could be heard as he ensured you would be alone and undisturbed. Giving the animal one last pat, you stepped up the wooden stairs, wrapping your arms around you. Since the sun had disappeared from the sky, it was dark inside, and your eyes found it troubling to adapt since the moon didn’t light up the room.
The house was eerie. Furniture still adorned the chipped, wooden planks with thick dust covering the various surfaces. The air was cold, with the smell of wood mingling with the ever-so-slightly scent of moldy food left on the plates. It looked like the people that had been living here had just walked away during their dinner.
“I wonder who lived here.” you thought out loud. Your voice was barely a whisper like the people were still sleeping upstairs. Although muted by the carpet, the floorboards creaked when you stepped inside, the fabric now muddy from your shoes. Arthur was shaking the planks nailed to the windows from the inside, making sure they would stay in their place
“Come on. I’ll keep a lookout for a while, see if I can hear them passing by. Get some rest.” He pointed you toward a botched chair in the corner. It didn’t look like the most comfortable chair, but it would have to do for the night. Not that you had a choice anyway.
“Are you sure? I can accompany you if you want.” Your words grew warm at his selfness, looking at him with a prolonged gaze as he reached to take off his jacket. He held it towards you and, as he secured his hat, bowed his head as he headed out the door.
“Nah, get some rest, alright?” You were left in the darkness as the door closed, trembling from the shivers racking through you with the heavy jacket hanging from your grasp.
-
What the hell was he thinking? He daydreamed about you like he had every right to imagine you that way when you rode with him. Hell, you would probably spit in his face if you knew that most of his thoughts involved you. What a sad man you are, Arthur Morgan, thinking you could ever get your hands on her. Pure and warm, that’s what you were. You were too good. Your care extended further than his ever had, treating him like he deserved your kindness. Deserved you. He kept his distance from you, only speaking to you when necessary to try to make you understand that he wasn’t a good man—but being as close to you as he had during the ride shut off his brain entirely.
The guilt ran through him as he sat on the porch, leaning against the door. Being in the same space as you proved to be too much for him now, the smell of your hair still clouding his mind. Shit, it was impossible to keep you out of his mind. Raising from the coldness of the ground, he swept his hands over his face, leaning his arms to rest against the fence as he observed into the distance. The place was surrounded by trees, somewhat deep in the woods, quite far from the path. He hoped it was far enough, not wanting to put you in more danger than he already had.
Irritation was still running through him at the outcome of the situation. He knew this would happen. At least they got away with the money. But if Cornwall’s men managed to get ahold of Bill, Uncle, and Charles, it wouldn’t matter. He didn’t feel up for a rescue mission right now; they had far more complicated things to think about.
-
As you sat in the chair for a while, wrapped in the oversized jacket Arthur lent you, your eyes became familiar with your surroundings. Finally, you could breathe out, although the stress from the predicament you just got yourself into raced through your body, making it hard for you to rest. It was dark and cold, and you missed the comforts of falling asleep in your bedroll at the lookout, surrounded by the women’s quiet whispering. Although, you felt safe enough knowing Arthur was outside in case anyone would stumble upon you two.
There was a large table in the middle of the room where Arthur had placed his satchel and some benches adorning the walls by the stove. A fireplace was by one of the walls with various portraits perched on it, along with some candles and other trinkets. Yawning, you stepped up from the seat, wrapping the jacket tighter around you as you stepped towards the wall, examining the portraits. You wondered who they were as you ran your nimble fingers over the dusty surface, a stoic face now starting to show. You laughed slightly under your breath; the man looked downright horrified as the woman beside him smiled warmly. Was that his wife? You turned the frame, squinting so you could read the writing.
“Ms.Hevett with son, Mr.Hevett.” Hmm, they both appeared to be very old. Mamas-boy maybe? You giggled again, putting your hand over your mouth to dull the sound. Returning the portrait, you glanced around. Oh, maybe Arthur had a match to light the candle! Well, of course, he had a match; he smoked every chance he got.
You tiptoed towards the door as it creaked when you pushed it open quietly. You called out for Arthur gently, seeing him leaning on the fence. His head turned to yours, alarmed, looking behind you as his hand rested on the gun in his holster. “You alright?” The words flew out from his mouth as he tensed, walking towards you. “Yeah, I’m fine. I just wondered if you have a match.” He looked at you for a moment, then furrowed his brows as he grabbed the edge of the door. “A match? Why? You don’t smoke.”
You glanced sheepishly at him now, realizing you might be bothering him. “Well, there’s a candle in there, and I just, I, would be more comfortable if it wasn’t so dark. That’s all.” He scoffed slightly at your words. “You supposed to be sleepin’; what does it matter if it’s dark?” He asked you in disbelief. You only pursed your lips, staring at him as the moonlight reflected on his face. A sigh left him as he beckoned you inside, giving one last glance around the outside of the cabin.
“This candle right here. If only we had some firewood, we could also warm the place. See, there’s a fireplace! I imagine the house was cozy when it wasn’t run-down.” You babbled as he followed behind you, reaching for a match in his bag. As he did at camp yesterday, he lights the match at the sole of his boot. Immediately, it casts the room in a warm blanket. It didn’t feel so eerily anymore, and the flame flickered around you softly.
He raised his brows as he spoke. “First, you want me to light this damned candle, and now you want me to go chop us up some wood?” He sounded more amused than his earlier cranky mood, but still, you looked at him unamused. “It was just an observation, alright?”
He chuckled lightly as he looked at you, observing you for a few seconds before speaking up. “You okay to sleep now?” His rough voice spoke the words as he motioned to leave again.
“Um, sure. Arthur, did you know a mother and her son had been living here? It said so on the portrait. I wonder what happened to them?” The words left you hurriedly, looking to say something to make him stay with you for a while longer. It was hard to explain, but you felt safer with him. In here. With you.
You pointed towards the portrait. He glanced at you shortly before stepping back into the room. “Yeah, I know. I’ve been here a few times.” His answer was short.
“Oh.”
The air was stuffy, and the tension grew thick as you looked at each other. Neither of you knew what to say since Arthur always seemed to get tongue-tied around you, and you were unsure of how to converse with him. You draped the jacket even closer, staring at the floorboards.
“Ya still cold?” He startled you slightly, your head perking up at his words. “Umm, yeah, a little, but the jacket’s helping… so.” He nodded at you, grabbing the belt with his hands, tightening his lips together, his eyes never leaving yours. He looked like he was expecting you to say something, waiting for the words to leave your mouth.
“Oh, sorry, you’re probably cold as well. Here you can have it back.” You stepped towards him, the jacket slipping off your shoulder.
“No, no. You take it, I’m used to it, alright?” His words were kind and selfless, and you felt terrible for not bringing your own jacket. Of course, he was cold; it was freezing in here. Knowing he cared enough for you to put your comfort before his own made your heart beat slightly faster.
Once again, he went to exit the door and leave you in the empty house, but the moment he opened it, the words left you before you could stop them.
“Will you stay in here?” It was silent as the raindrops started to fall outside, pattering on the roof as the tension grew suffocatingly thick. Glancing at you with his head bowed, he cleared his throat.
“It’s just I’ll feel safer with you in here. That’s all.” Feeling the need to explain your sudden outburst, you felt a blush rise at the humiliating situation. He probably thought you were childish, finding your words annoying and demanding.
Giving you a curt nod, he closed the door behind him, pushed one of the side tables against the door, and locked it.
“It won’t rain in, so don’t worry. Now,” He leaned back on the chair by the table in the middle of the room, putting one leg over his other to lean the ankle against it, taking his gun out of the holster and cleaning the dirty metal. “Get some sleep. We’ll set out in the morning.”
You listened to him this time and sat on the chair, bringing your legs up towards your chest as you closed your eyes. You knew it would. be hard for sleep to find you, but you still gave it a chance.
-
You were wrong; you were able to sleep. But it didn’t last you very long, for the cold had seeped through both skin and bones, leaving you with tremors running through your already shaking body. You could still hear the thunder in the distance and the heavy rain splattering against the wooden roof. You opened your eyes, finding another pair staring right at you. You felt your stomach turn, the display of emotions running deep in his eyes as he observed you. His legs were spread wide where he sat, keeping sight of both you and the door in case someone barged through. The flickering of the faint light hit his eyes, painting his otherwise blue eyes a darker tone. It felt like a dream.
“Alright, that’s enough.” A heavy sigh left the man as he stood up. The floorboards creaked under his weight as he walked over to you. Grabbing under your arms, he lifted you as he sat on the chair. Gently, he placed you on his lap, with your head resting on his neck and legs draped over his thighs.
“Jesus, woman, you’re freezing.” As he talked lowly, you could feel his voice rumble in his chest, the feeling soothing against you.
Oh, darn it, he was warm. How could he be so warm? No thoughts except warming your freezing frame made you wrap your arms around his waist, the thick jacket covering both of you. You felt his hands run over your arms, trying to warm you up as you moved against him, relishing in the heat from his body as you nuzzled your cheeks in the crook of his neck.
And finally, you fell asleep.
-
“Arthur.” Jolting awake, Arthur’s eyes widened in the candle-lit room. His whole body tensed up as he gazed down at you, alarmed.
Seemingly unhurt, a worried expression was on your beautiful face.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” He asked you. Shushing him, you placed your hand on his bicep carefully.
“You were mumbling in your sleep. Is everything alright?” Your eyes were tired but warm as he blinked down at you, now noticing his arms wrapped tightly around your waist, pulling you towards him. “Yeah, ’m alright.” His words were low, choked at the sight of you staring this tenderly at him. This was a dream, he told himself.
As his arms relaxed around you slightly, you wrapped yours tighter around his neck. He was so suffocating, his scent surrounding you from every direction as you basked in its grasp. His eyes were intense, the now sullen look he always carried vulnerable, as the folds around his eyes evened out. It still felt like you were in a dream, and you longed for it never to end. Good dreams never found you, but now you had it in your hands as the comforting blanket cloaked around you like Arthur was wrapped around your scorching body.
No words were spoken as you gasped slightly, nimble hands stroking up his arms as the broadness stretched against his shirt. His cheek was warm when you placed your trembling fingers on his scruff, tracing small figures as you observed the scar on his jaw and the slight bend of his nose from getting it dislocated often. As you grazed his skin, your eyes never left him, even when he closed them to revel in your touch. Being this close to him was comforting; the contact was foreign to you but something you had longed for. Feeling wanted by him was what you wanted your dreams to turn into for the longest time. And it finally did.
The world around you grew quiet; only your breathing was audible as his chest moved under you, heavy intakes of breath raking through him. Letting your gaze fall to his lips, yours parted slightly. Through hazy eyes, you closed the small distance between you. A warm surge spread through you as his chapped lips met yours, his slight beard tickling your skin. A low moan escaped at the contact, and your heart burst at the seams, the fire flaring and oozing with each movement. You always wondered what pressing your lips against his would be like, his stoic character making it feel like your wishes were miles away. But now you knew, and it felt better than you imagined. His hands were still around your waist, holding you tightly as you felt all the excitement overflowing in your veins at his apparent contentment of your actions.
You snuggled into him, holding his cheeks and caressing them with your thumb. Slowly, you leaned your head back, feeling dizzy from the emotions clouding your brain. He followed you as you pulled away, almost as if you hauled him towards you like tied with a lasso. His breath warmed your skin as his lips were placed in the conjecture of your neck as he leaned against you. As you giggled slightly from the tickling sensation, he breathlessly chuckled as he left wet trails up to the space under your ear, caressing the small of your back with his large hands. His gloved hand against the fabric of your blouse felt enticing, your back arching due to his touch, your upper body now pressed flush against him. You held his head close as your hands were buried in his thick hair. His lips found yours again, shifting against you fervently as he moved with more vigor.
Of course, it was a dream, Arthur thought to himself. It bled into every nightly thought he has had of you now for the longest time. Your scent reached his nostrils. It was so sweet, so you. Small arms were wrapped around him, and your legs were now glued at either side of his thighs as your soft lips touched the skin under his ears in a silent kiss. Shivers wracked through his body as he ran his coarse hand alongside your waist, the soft woolen fabric hugging the curve of your waist tightly. Small gasps emitted from you as your hands ran up his stomach to his chest, planting small, tender packs against the slightly sunburnt skin, looking up at him through hooded eyes. Sinful, that’s how you looked.
He lifted you slightly, capturing your soft lips in his. The sweet caress of your skin against his felt divine, the wet noise of your tongues finding each other mingling with the sound of the rain outside. As the jacket slid down your shoulder, the man was left staring at the soft curve of your round breasts, revealed from the unbuttoned cotton of your blouse, the slight hardness of your nipples showing through the fabric.
“Arthur”
“Mmh.” He was too far gone now, but he kept assuring himself he was dreaming. You would have never put your hands on him if he wasn’t. He had noticed how you huddled closer to him from the cold when you rode on the horse, your figure nestling against his, curves snug against him. Did you do it on purpose? Were you aware of what you were doing to him? He was still trying to recover from what transpired in his head when you escaped the riders. No, not from the bullets seeking to pierce his flesh, but your bottom. Your soft, tantalizing rear. It had been flush against him as you leaned forward earlier, the round hips taunting him temptingly, almost as if they begged for his hands to caress the soft curves that stretched the fabric that covered it. Damned skirt. What he would have done to push it up your legs and reveal the tender flesh hidden beneath them. Your slit bare against the saddle’s leather as you squirmed, jiggling your cheeks like you were begging Arthur to give in to your desire. Shit. He shouldn’t have been thinking about you like that, not when you were right before him.
Leaning forward slightly, you ran your fingers through Boadicea’s mane as you patted her neck. You spoke, but the words that left your mouth turned into nonsense in his clouded head.
He had given you some nonsensical answer as he stared down at you through hazy eyes as your hips moved in sync with the horse’s motion, words flexed mindlessly out of his mouth as his restraint seemed non-existent. Your terms of cheerful disbelief grew distant as heat traveled through his body at his unholy thoughts, mouth too dry to give you a coherent answer. His hands moving on the reigns, trying to keep them from indulging your softness against him so he could feel the tremendous friction he was sure would send him straight to heaven. Christ, you riding on a horse should be illegal.
But now you were here, with him, and he had your soft body in his grasp. The tension from his earlier thoughts became apparent, his hands moving on their own as they familiarized themselves with your curves that felt so real. Too real.
Suddenly, you felt his hands on your button as he hastily lifts you. Automatically, your legs seek ahold of his waist, arms around his neck. He moved quickly over the floor as the lightning lit up the room from the cracks in the door, laying you down on the table and leaning down to cover your body with his. He was so close to you now, feeling every part of him press against you—every aspect.
Snap!
Frozen in place, wide eyes adorn your face from the sudden sound. Arthur was still above you as he sharpened his ears, finding it difficult to hear since the rain hit the ground loudly outside. The snap had been just outdoor, like someone stepping on a branch. Panicked, you tried to find a reasonable explanation: an animal, a branch falling, or maybe Boadicea had moved.
Slowly, Arthur raised his body from yours, leaving you flustered and scared on the table. With a frightened stare, you looked at him as he raised his finger to his mouth, slowly stepping away so the wooden planks wouldn’t creek. Leaning against the door’s side, his hand rested on his pistol. Stay still. His eyes told you to do as he said, and so you did. It’s not like you were able to anyway, your muscles petrified. They had found you. The worst outcome filled your mind; what would they do to you if they got the upper hand? Turn you in, or worse, put a bullet between your eyes?
The loud noise of the door slamming open made you shoot your eyes toward it, finding Arthur standing in the doorway with his pistol pointed out into the dark.
“Aw, shit.” His throaty voice was laced with disbelief, making you lift your head from the table. Your laugh filled the space as the back of your head hit the table with a loud clang, eyes squeezed shut from the sight in front of you. It had seemed like Boadicea had found a friend, the stallion standing still from the sudden intrusion and ran away in haste. “C’mon, get outta here!” The surprised man cursed after the horse, beckoning it out as your hands found your face. The adrenaline still racing through you made your hands shake as the hilarity of the situation made you speechless. Placing your hand on your racing heart, you sat up as the old cutlery clinked underneath you, hearing Arthur’s loud, angry steps hit the porch steps.
Standing before you, he sighed at your amusement, but you could see a slight smile worm its way underneath his frown. Although it quickly disappeared as he gazed at you before him. Right.
What in the world were you thinking? Now clear-minded, the intimacy you had shared entered your mind. Shame rose in you as your cheeks blazed, taking ahold of your blouse to cover your exposed state.
“Um…” You didn’t have the chance to finish the sentence before he cut you off. Hastily, he grabbed his rifle on the table and the pouch in harsh movements, making sure not to touch you before he went towards the door with big steps.
“It’s soon morning. Stay here until then; we’ll leave in a while.”
After the door slammed shut, the quietness was deafening. Now alone, you could see the slightest bit of light entering the cracks in the walls, but it didn’t ease the heaviness in your chest. It hadn’t been a dream, you thought to yourself. Every minute had been actual: his coarse hands, desperate lips, and body heat. If you closed your eyes and focused enough, you could still feel the traces of fingers over your clothing as his smell reached your nose once again, like he had united with the ghosts of this house and now haunted you. Taunting you. Why had he reacted so yet touched you so fiercely? You felt a pang in your chest at the thought, not understanding.
Opening your eyes, you buttoned your blouse in shame and put your hands on your cheeks as you lifted yourself off the table. It was still chilly in the room but not as bad as the night before. Mindlessly, you wandered over the space, sat in the chair where Arthurs’s jacket lay, and brought your knees up to your chest, hugging it tight with your arms. The blissful moment you had together faded, the warm touches dimmed into cold, malicious blows to your heart as the hope of finally having a pleasant dream vanished, the moment turning into an all too familiar nightmare.

Echo waited in the forest clearing as the Marauder touched down. “I got your message. It sounded urgent, is everything alright?” Echo asked as soon as the door to the Marauder opened revealing his two brothers.
“Everything is fine, Echo.” Hunter said.
“More than fine.” Wrecker emphasised.
“But we agreed we weren’t to meet until (Y/N) was back with us so unless you’ve found her…” He trailed off as he saw the smile tugging at Wrecker’s mouth and Hunter in particular seemed more at ease than he’d been in the recent months. “Wait a second, you mean-”
“Hey stranger.” You said with a grin as you came into view and stood between Hunter and Wrecker. You laughed as Echo’s expression changed from stunned to happy then to relief in quick succession. You jogged down the steps and embraced him tightly. “Long time no see.”
“I’ll say.” Echo replied with a smile as he mirrored your actions. “You had me worried.”
“Worried?” You queried. It sounded like he had a specific worry in mind rather than the general worries that had plagued the rest of you for months.
“Last news of you I’d heard had me getting ready to tell the boys to launch a rescue mission.” Echo said as he parted from you. “But lucky for us, they found you before I needed to share that.”
If you weren’t so happy to see him, you could’ve punched him. You weren’t far away enough from the other two and you knew Echo’s words wouldn’t go unheard, especially by the clone with enhanced senses. You hadn’t gotten around to sharing that part of your time alone and you weren’t sure that you wanted to either.
Hunter hadn’t forgotten that there was something about your past that you weren’t telling him. He’d noticed small shifts and changes in your behaviour since you’d been back. It was things like you made sure to keep your top layer on at all times and if you had to take it off, you would always go to the refresher regardless of it you were alone or not which was something you never used to do. You hadn’t communicated with either him or Wrecker in the silent way you were able to do where they’d hear your voice in their head which was something you did regularly in the past. You were also more emotionally and physically distant, the latter happening at night in particular and ordinarily it wouldn’t bother him, but he knew the cause was rooted in something you’d gone through. But every time he tried to broach the issue, you refused to talk about whatever it was that was causing it, and it pained him that he could do nothing but watch the negative impact it continued to have on you.
“What’s going on with, Omega? Any new leads?” You asked Echo instead, ignoring Hunter’s hand that now rested on your upper arm.
“(Y/N)-”
“Not now, Hunter. Please.”
Hunter released a quiet and resigned sigh. He wanted to help you if he could, but he also knew he had to wait until you were ready. It was just getting harder to do that.
Echo glanced between the two of you. “I said something I shouldn’t have, didn’t I?”
You shook your head. “Don’t worry about it. Just fill us in.”
Echo’s eyes darted to Hunter who only nodded. He took a breath and waited for Wrecker to join the three of you. “Nothing new. Imperial security on Hemlock is tight and any breakthrough just results in more cryptic information.”
“Yeah, we’ve had much of the same.” You agreed irritably.
Echo nodded before he faced Hunter. “I know we said that we’d come together once we had (Y/N) back with us, but I think it’s better if I stay doing what I’m doing. Rex and I are going to meet and try to pool together what we’ve gathered. We can tell you what we find and send you to follow up on other sources since we can’t cover everything ourselves and you can also keep searching on your own.”
Before Hunter could form a reply, the sound of branches snapping grabbed his attention.
The blaster bolt that immediately followed the noise, skimmed the armour on your upper arm.
You all reacted quickly and took cover behind the trees.
The onslaught of fire was being directed towards you and would only occasionally be aimed to your fellow clones as a way to keep them from advancing towards the source. Evidently you were the main target here.
“Hunter!” You shouted over the sound of blaster fire. When he pressed his back against the tree trunk and his helmet looked over to you, you called on the Force and dragged the assailant out from their spot, and a well-aimed shot from Hunter saw to it that the blaster was rendered useless. You kept that link with your ally to Force-push them into another tree, and they crumbled to the floor.
All of you lowered your blaster for the moment. You needed to find out why they were here, killing them immediately wouldn’t get you very far.
You stepped out from behind your tree and observed the bounty hunter carefully. Throughout the firefight, you’d felt yourself being pulled towards them, but you couldn’t work out why and that urge hadn’t gone away.
Stiff and unsteady movements had you readying your blaster again but as the hunter got to their feet and caught your eye, you understood why that feeling was there.
Your heart stopped and you stayed rooted to the spot as you saw the blade ignite from the hilt they were holding. The ground around them illuminated in a pale blue haze and you understood what was calling you to the hunter now. Your feet suddenly began moving of their own accord.
The other three all shared a collective bewildered look at what was unfolding in front of them.
Hunter collected his shock quickly and raised his hand to order the others to halt their fire as you fully stepped out to into the clearing.
The bounty hunter charged for you, but the attack posed little threat to you. Whoever this was had no idea how to use an elegant weapon like this and their grip was heavy and clumsy. It wouldn’t take much for you to disarm them.
You ducked under their reckless and uncoordinated swing, grabbed their wrist, and bent it back until the weapon fell from their grasp. You landed a hard kick to their chest, and they stumbled back. The hood fell loose- now exposing a feminine face- but she wasn’t a bounty hunter you recognised. You didn’t have much time to dwell on that since she grabbed a small knife from her boot and jabbed it towards your stomach. You parried away her strikes before you grew tired of dragging this altercation out. Landing a strong punch to her jaw, you used her dazed disposition to Force-pull her face down to the forest floor and waved the others forward.
Hunter and Wrecker pressed their knees into her back and brought her arms around to firmly hold them behind her.
You paid little attention to what they were doing. You hesitantly walked over to the weapon left discarded on the ground.
“Who hired you?” Hunter demanded as he held her down.
“Fuck off.” She snarled as she fought against their grip, but they were too strong, and she was in a much weaker position than she’d been in ten minutes ago.
Echo merely bent down to reach into her jacket pocket and pulled out the tracking fob and bounty puck. Your holographic image confirming what they’d all suspected.
Upon seeing that, Hunter found himself pushing his knee deeper into her spine, paying little attention to her groans of protest.
“Where did you get this?” You questioned softly, more to yourself than anything. You kept your back turned to her as you knelt down and studied the familiar design on the hilt. You couldn’t pick it up, not yet. You knew what you would feel if you did, and you weren’t sure if you were ready for that.
“What?” The bounty hunter snapped as she went for another attempt to wriggle free, but the two clones kept her tight to the forest floor.
You stiffened your posture as you turned on your heels and strode over to her. You lowered your mask, found your voice, and crouched down to her eye level. “Where did you get the lightsaber?” You pointed back to where the weapon still lay abandoned.
“I’m not telling you a thing, Jedi brat.” She spat.
At her words, Hunter twisted her arm harder, ignoring her pained cry.
You signalled to Hunter to ease up and you stood tall once more and indicated to them both to get her on her feet.
Once they did so, you pressed your blaster against her stomach and brought your lips close to her ear- your voice a quiet but lethal whisper. “You know who I am and what I’ve done to people to get what I want. Do you want to be next?” At her harsh gulp, you kept pushing. “I can’t imagine what that’ll do for your reputation in your community... then again, maybe I can… shall we find out?” You knew you’d done enough as you sensed her flicker of fear. You took a step back and looked at her with a firm glare.
“It was the client I did the job for.” She muttered begrudgingly. She wasn’t about to be maimed or die for a job that wasn’t paying all that much in the first place. She’d worked too hard to be seen as a contender, she couldn’t lose that now.
“And who was that?” Hunter asked again, his voice steely.
“Some shop owner.” She replied irritably.
“A name.” You insisted.
“I can’t remember.”
You puffed out an exasperated sigh and took a half step forward.
“Kedrin! His name was Kedrin!” She revealed fretfully.
You saw the shared look between Hunter and Wrecker. “That name mean something to you?”
Wrecker nodded. “He was the one that told us to go to Christophsis to find you.”
The name meant nothing to you upon initially hearing it but evidently you were involved somehow. You ran the information over in your head. Shop owner… Kedrin… Christophsis… it was starting to make sense in your head and that would mean… Your breath caught in your throat as it hit you. You hadn’t even known his name and you’d taken his only family away from him.
“Why set the bounty on her?” Echo asked coolly, keeping his blaster focused on her.
“Not really supposed to ask.” She grunted. “He just mentioned a dead brother.” She saw the flash of something in your eyes… it looked like regret. “Oh… you killed him.”
You glared at her. You hadn’t had time to fill Echo in yet and this was not how you wanted to go about it.
Echo’s eyes darted from her to you. “What is she talking about?”
“Echo…” You started but a cruel laugh from the bounty hunter interrupted you.
“Oh, she’s achieved quite the reputation. Can’t go far in the Outer Rim without coming across someone who had dealings with her.”
Echo angled his head to face you, but you wouldn’t meet his gaze. As hard as you were trying to hide it, you looked… ashamed?
“Back off.” Wrecker growled at the hunter as he saw your mask of composure slip for a moment.
“What’s the matter, Jedi? Suddenly the killing and torture got too much for you? If they were all as weak as you, no wonder they’re all gone.” She taunted mercilessly.
“Shut up.” Hunter snarled as he saw the way your fists clenched as you worked on keeping your distress at bay.
But you knew it was a pointless venture. Despite her current predicament, that bounty hunter arrogance was in full flow now that she’d discovered your weakness, and she wasn’t about to stop. Her stare was filled with malice, but you wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of turning away. Your shoulders heaved as you worked on keeping your breathing even and controlled.
The bounty hunter addressed the clones now. "I didn’t get much guidance from my client aside from ‘kill her’ so ever since I picked up that bounty, I've been trying to think of the most chaotic way to take her out. She's obviously felt enough emotional turmoil that an easy death would be a mercy. Jedi don't deserve the luxury. I like to play with my food before I kill it."
“And how’s that worked out for you?” You retorted though your conviction was weak as her words found their mark and her sneer told you she was completely unbothered about her current situation now. Your only plan involved letting her overconfidence be her own undoing.
“Nice try.” She mocked. “For a moment I believed your threats but now that I’m really looking at you, I know you don’t have it in you to kill me anymore. You’ve gone soft and you’re pathetic I can see it in your eyes- you’re haunted by what you’ve done, Jedi.”
Your jaw clenched and you could feel those emotions you’d worked so hard to control start to rise to the surface.
“I’m getting outta here and I fully intend to finish what the Empire started-”
Hunter’s fatal shot to her chest silenced her and she flopped to the ground.
“Looks like you have something you need to deal with first.” Echo advised Hunter as he destroyed the puck and tracking fob for good measure before he holstered his blaster. He faced you. “I still don’t know what happened whilst you were on your own, but your past is your own, I won’t hold anything against you, we’re still okay.” He reassured you.
You barely managed a nod of acknowledgement as her words were still replaying in your mind, but you wouldn’t let it show. Instead, you took out your vibroblade and cut a section of her clothing. You stayed silent as you took the piece of fabric and wrapped the lightsaber in it. You knew it was a lame gesture- especially since you immediately felt that rush of connection as you lifted it- but it provided you with a false sense of security that you would rather have because the second you made unrestrained contact with it, you knew you wouldn’t be able to resist or turn your back on it again. You held the hilt tightly before you waved farewell to Echo and made for the ship.
Hunter nodded absentmindedly at Echo’s words whilst his gaze was fixed on you. He knew seeing that lightsaber might bring back some memories, but the intensity of your reaction told him there was more to it than simply remembering that period of your life. He pulled himself out of his thoughts and reached his hand out to Echo. “Be safe, Echo. We’ll be in touch once we’ve dealt with this.”
“You too.” Echo replied, meeting Hunter’s hand in a firm handshake before they parted, and he watched Hunter head back to the Marauder.
“See you later, Echo.” Wrecker said warmly as he lightly slapped his brother’s shoulder before he followed Hunter to the ship.
--
“What’s so special about this lightsaber?” Wrecker asked as the ship entered hyperspace.
Hunter leaned against the entrance to the cockpit, arms crossed as he studied you. Your eyes hadn’t left the weapon sitting in your lap.
“It’s mine.” You said quietly.
Hunter immediately straightened up. “It’s yours?” He repeated.
“Yup.” You cleared your throat and brought your eyes up to face the two clones. “I figured it would’ve been destroyed in Order 66. Guess not.” You said with a resigned sigh.
“Woah! Talk about lucky!” Wrecker said excitedly but you didn’t seem to match his enthusiasm. “This is good news, isn’t it?” He asked, tilting his head at you.
“I don’t know what kind of news it is, Wrecker.” You said honestly.
“What’s your hold up?” Hunter asked curiously.
“Yeah, it’s a pretty handy weapon to have and if it belongs to you, isn’t it better that it’s back with you?” Wrecker followed up.
“It’s difficult to explain.” You deflected.
“Try us.” Hunter encouraged gently.
You shot him a look, hoping he would drop it but the look in his eyes told you that he was not for dissuading. You released a short breath. “It would be like taking back a section of my life I was ready to leave behind. That I had left behind… for years.”
“And you don’t know if you’re ready to reconnect with that part of you yet?” Hunter guessed.
You shrugged in complacent agreement. “Making the choice to leave the Jedi Order was already difficult and leaving my lightsaber…. well, that was hard enough the first time and now that I have it back… I don’t know.” You ran a hand over your face. “It’s just complicated.” You got to your feet and carefully put the lightsaber on a shelf in the cockpit.
Wrecker slapped his hands against his thighs. “Well, I always think things look less complicated after a good sleep, what do ya say? We all could use some rest before we sort out this Kedrin guy.”
Sleep didn’t provide you with much respite these days, but you hummed out a quiet laugh and shared a brief smile with Hunter. “Sounds like a good idea, Wrecker.”
--
Hunter jolted awake, panic setting in as he reached for you only to find that you weren’t there, and he had a horrible feeling that he hadn’t woken up yet. But no, he could hear Wrecker’s faint snores, so he had to be awake, and he knew he was back with you, it wasn’t a trick. There would be a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why you weren’t lying next to him right now.
He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths. You were here, you’d been here for a while now. He’d found you; you were okay. It wasn’t like before. You were probably just in the cockpit. Yes, that’s where you had to be.
When he felt himself calm down, he got to his feet and noiselessly made his way there but paused in the entryway as he saw you reading one of Tech’s old datapads, top layer still on, feet tucked up beneath you as you sat in the pilot’s seat. He thought he’d gathered them all. “Where’d you find that?” He rasped; his voice still thick with sleep.
You jumped in your chair as you heard him. You had been utterly absorbed in what you were reading, you hadn’t sensed him approach. You looked up to see Hunter standing in the doorway to the cockpit. “Tucked behind the medkit. I forgot how much Tech truly recorded.” You said in fond remembrance although there was an overall sense of sorrow in your voice. You flashed him the title of the current report you were reading. “Remember that mission on Ryloth?”
“You and Wrecker got separated from the rest of us and decided to blow up the target from the inside and escape through the garbage chute if I remember correctly?”
“Right.” You said with a soft chuckle.
“Pretty sure that was the mission that made you a fully-fledged member of our squad, Wrecker couldn’t stop raving about you after that. I was almost jealous.” Hunter managed to joke.
You gave him a small grin at that before you turned off the datapad and properly took him in. “Guess you couldn’t sleep either?” You asked in a hushed voice as Hunter stepped further into the cockpit.
Hunter merely shook his head and sat across from you.
“Nightmares?” You figured as you delicately put the datapad back and sat in your seat once more.
“I prefer calling them recaps.” Hunter muttered dully as he sat across from you.
You reached for his knee and squeezed it comfortingly. “Do you want to talk more about them?”
Hunter shook his head. “You know and lived it all too and being here with you helps anyway. What about you?”
“Just a lot weighing on my mind.” You said airily as you brought your hand back to your lap.
Hunter made a small noise of quiet understanding. He hadn’t been expecting much more by way of a response from you.
“I don’t know how he does it.” You whispered in sad envy as you jutted your chin over to where Wrecker was sleeping soundly.
Hunter followed your gaze and sighed. “It’s the only way he can switch off. Especially in the early months, he struggled with remembering everything.”
“Yeah, any form of healing from all this won’t be easy.” You said with a heavy breath.
“Wrecker might be able to sleep better than we can, but he keeps a blaster by him and has his hand on it at all times. I don’t think he ever wants to be caught off guard again.” Hunter replied solemnly. “Moving on won’t ever be simple.”
You dipped your head in agreement and leaned back in your chair.
The minutes ticked by and the two of you sat in comfortable silence for a while before Hunter cleared his throat. “I’m going to be selfish for a moment, okay?”
You tilted your head at him and adjusted your posture to give him your full attention. “Okay…”
Hunter took another breath, his throat bobbing before he spoke, “You can’t leave me to wake up alone like that.”
It hit you immediately. Fuck, you’d been an idiot, of course you couldn’t do that. If he’d done that to you, you would lose your shit. How could you have been so stupid? “Hunter-”
“I had one night too many of waking up to a cold and empty space and worrying about where you were and what was happening to you. I can’t go through it again, I won’t. Not anymore.”
You’d been so wrapped up in your own head, you hadn’t even considered what that would do to him, but you should’ve known better, especially because your reaction would be exactly like his. You quietly stood up and closed the short gap between you to straddle his lap.
He accommodated you in an instant and his eyes fluttered shut as you gently stroked your fingers through his hair.
“I’m sorry.” You soothed as you placed delicate kisses to his face whilst you moved your hands to rub up and down his chest, his sleep clothes warm and soft beneath your palms.
Hunter caught your wrists and tenderly caressed the scars left there as a result of what you’d endured in Cid’s parlour. “I barely lived through it once and I won’t do it ever again. I don’t care what time it is, if you’re up and struggling with something you wake me up with you. I’d rather that than wake up without you and have that pain and panic set it again. Promise me… please.” He begged, brushing some strands of hair back behind your ear as his eyes looked deep into yours.
You nuzzled into his neck and placed a gentle kiss on his pulse point. “I promise.” Your lips traced his jaw. “And you promise too.”
“I promise.” Hunter agreed and he tucked his fingers under your chin and brought your lips to his.
You had wanted to keep it short and sweet, but you soon found yourself physically incapable. One gentle nip from him on your bottom lip and you were done for. The kiss soon turned hungry and desperate. The two of you were consumed by a passion you’d had no outlet for yet, and you were getting completely lost in the moment. Your hands threaded themselves in his hair and you pressed yourself against him as he deepened the kiss and squeezed your hips to get you to subtly grind against him which were instructions you were only too happy to follow.
It was all over though when you felt his hands start to reach the bottom of your shirt and brush against your bare skin. Instinctively, you flinched away, and you crashed back to reality. You knew what marks you were concealing, and what he would feel if he lifted your shirt, and it wasn’t something he should have to see. “I- I can’t.” You panted against his lips. Your body yearned for him, but you couldn’t bring yourself to go any further, not yet. Everything was still too fresh, and you couldn’t, no matter how much you wanted to.
Even though his body burned for you, he’d never push you into this, but he wanted to share the burden of whatever it was that was tormenting you. “Are you ever going to tell me what happened to you?” Hunter murmured breathlessly as he glanced up at you.
You swallowed thickly. “I want to but-” You released a low, shaky breath. “It’s- it’s hard to talk about.”
Hunter stroked your cheek. “Well, when you’re ready, I’ll be right there.”
You pressed your lips into his palm.
“Come on, let’s try to get some rest. We’ll arrive at Nelvaan in a few hours.” He kissed your forehead before you got to your feet and the two of you made your way back to your bunk.
--
“Y- you’re supposed- supposed to be dead!” Kedrin exclaimed fearfully as he cowered behind the main counter upon seeing you standing in the doorway of his shop, the two clones on either side of your shoulders.
“You should’ve sprung for a better bounty hunter then.” You countered as you walked towards the store owner. “I have some questions for you.”
“No, I’m not dealing with any of you ever again!” Kedrin reached underneath the counter and pulled out a blaster and pointed it at you.
You stopped your advance and raised your hands in surrender. “Kedrin, I just need to talk to you.”
“Fuck you! You don’t get to use my name and talk to me like what you did to me was nothing!”
You internally cringed at the memory of what you’d put him through.
“Did you even know he was my brother?!” He shouted in anger. “Did you even care, you heartless bitch?!”
Hunter tensed beside you.
You lightly grazed his hand with your own to tell him it was fine but at the same time shame coiled in your gut. You lowered your mask and kept your voice low and composed. “Kedrin-”
“Stop using my fucking name, you never bothered with it before!” He then turned his rage to the clone that stood closest to you. “And you! I still have the scar from you!” He yelled at the clone on your right, the blaster in his hand still quivering as he aimed it between the three of you.
Hunter stood unwavering beside you and said nothing.
You saw how unsteady his grip on his blaster was. “You’re not a killer, Kedrin. It’s why you sent the bounty hunter after me in the first place.” You said as an attempt to talk him down but the Force around him was in complete chaos, the only emotion that had any kind of control was his anger and that was dangerous. You knew the kind of pain and wrath the loss of a loved one could unleash, and it was why you’d never wanted to put anyone through it in the first place but now you were seeing the impact of your mistake firsthand.
“You killed my brother you fucking bitch!”
You sensed him getting ready to pull the trigger. “Kedrin-” You ducked as the blaster bolt came straight for your head. You channelled the Force and took the blaster from his hand whilst Hunter and Wrecker used that distraction to advance and subdue him. They shoved his head and torso down to press against the countertop.
“Do you want one to match?” Hunter threatened as he reached for his vibroblade and held the sharp point just above Kedrin’s unmarked hand as he and Wrecker held him down.
“Hunter, it’s okay.” You said, pulling him back from that line the two of you had agreed to keep each other from as you saw the way his grip strengthened and the wince of pain Kedrin couldn’t conceal.
Kedrin kept looking for a way out of their hold but was proving futile. “She murdered my brother.” He whimpered as he continued some half-hearted attempts to free himself.
“You’re right. I did.” You approached him and crouched to meet his eyeline. “And it was a mistake that I’m plagued by to this day. All I can do is say that I’m sorry. I know you’d love nothing more than to kill me too, it would probably feel great but please, please Kedrin, don’t do this. It won’t end well for you.” You begged. When his resistance finally ceased, you turned your attention to Hunter.
“Give us a minute.” You said to Hunter, resting a hand on the top of his shoulder.
“But-” Hunter got ready to argue.
“Hunter.” You interrupted firmly and fixed him with a stern stare.
Recognising that tone and look in your eyes, Hunter released a disgruntled but compliant sigh and nodded to Wrecker to let him go. He holstered his blaster and sheathed his vibroblade before leading the way out.
As you heard the door shut, you stepped back from the counter to give Kedrin some space. “You have no reason to trust me, but I promise that I’m not going to hurt you, that’s not why I’m here.”
“You’re- you’re not here to kill me for the bounty hunter?” Kedrin asked warily.
You shook your head. “There was a time where that’s what precisely I would do and I wouldn’t even hesitate, but you’re not the person I’m supposed to be hurting and neither was your brother. I know nothing I say will bring you comfort but I am not here to kill you. I only want to talk.” You said sincerely as you put your weapons to the ground and faced him calmly.
Kedrin massaged his right shoulder- which had been on the receiving end of a particularly harsh grip from the clone you referred to as ‘Hunter’- and narrowed his eyes at you. “What is it exactly that you want to talk about?”
“This.” You placed the lightsaber on the counter and unwrapped it. “Where’d you get it?”
Kedrin wasn’t buying that that was all you wanted to know about, you had to be here for revenge. “How do I know you won’t do some magic thing like you did last time?”
You released an irritated sigh. “Because if I was going to do that, I would’ve done it already. I won’t lie, I can’t leave here with you still intent on sending hunters after me or I will have to do some things neither of us will enjoy, particularly you. I will always regret taking yours away from you, it was never part of my plan to leave someone alone, but my family is still counting on me, and I can’t have anything messing that up. Please, leave us alone and I’ll never bother you again after this.”
Kedrin angled his head and regarded you inquisitively. His body was still filled with fear of being alone with you, but it was like there was a different person standing before him- you seemed genuinely upset and sorry; and that in of itself would be punishment enough- better you feel the guilt of what you’d done than have an easy out. “You’re the most terrifying person I’ve ever met but for some reason, I believe what you’re saying. No more bounty hunters.”
You felt into the Force around him but there was no dishonesty or deceit. “The lightsaber?” You redirected his attention to the weapon on the counter.
Kedrin shrugged. “What about it?”
“Where did you get it?” You repeated impatiently.
Kedrin flinched at your tone and- not wanting to risk upsetting you any further- started wiping down some glass cases to channel his nervous energy and spoke quickly. “I’ve had it for a while, couldn’t tell you who gave it to me. Just that they were employed to be a part of the clean-up after your lot betrayed the Chancellor and found it and wanted a souvenir of the experience.”
You coughed and bit back the flurry of insults and threats that nearly escaped your mouth.
Kedrin, now so focused on his task that he was oblivious to your discomfort, carried on in a restless ramble, “Guess they ran into tough times during the transition period and wanted rid of it for some quick cash. No one really wanted to buy it though, it just sat there which was why I gave it to that bounty hunter.”
You felt your heartbeat thundering in your ears as you realised what this could mean for you. Leaving it behind had been an active choice to cut part of yourself off from the Force and now you had a chance to feel the Force flow through you as a single entity, no more jagged or disjointed connections… but you didn’t know if you were ready for that yet, it was too much to even comprehend. If it had survived everything and found its way back to you… did that mean that you could too?
“So, um are you going to pay for it?” He dared to ask but your sharp and cold glower had him gulping nervously and wringing his hands. “Uh, never mind, you can take it.” He said hastily. “Just let us be done with each other.”
You said nothing to him, you only covered it once more, picked up your other weapons and exited the shop.
--
“Everything okay?” Hunter asked as you emerged from the store.
“We were going to go get some supplies if you want to join?” Wrecker added.
“I need a moment. You guys go.” You said, giving Wrecker your concealed lightsaber and avoiding eye contact with them both as you hurried back to the Marauder.
--
Having found a moment of relief under the warm water, you got out of the shower and started to towel off and redress but as you pulled your tank top over you, you realised you’d left your long sleeve out by your bunk. You swore under your breath and only hoped the other two would take a bit longer on the supply run. You dashed out the door of the refresher and started to rummage through the bunk for it.
“Who did that to you?”
You whipped around to see Hunter stood frozen in the entryway to the Marauder. “Dammit Hunter-”
“Who did that to you?” He repeated heatedly, his concern and rage rising each second. The sight of the deep and cruel scars that disappeared from your upper back beneath your shirt to the rest of your back was engrained in his mind and any plans of waiting for you to come to him evaporated as his anger and protectiveness overcame him.
Wrecker stepped up beside his brother, put the supplies down and your weapon on a shelf. He nervously glanced between the two of you and it didn’t take an enhanced skill for him to pick up on the way Hunter was trembling with fury. “Eh, what’d I miss?”
Hunter ignored him and kept his eyes on you. “Who was it?”
You turned back around to grab your shirt and it was then that you heard Wrecker’s sharp inhale as he too now saw what it was Hunter had seen. You fiddled with the fabric, twisting it tightly in your hands. “It wasn’t like it was solely one person. Just forget about it.” You muttered aloofly.
“No, I can’t just forget about it. Who. Hurt. You?”
You sighed heavily and half-turned to face the two clones. “It was a two for one special.”
“Don’t.” Hunter chided sternly. He couldn’t have you make light of this, not when he’d seen what you’d gone through now. He couldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer anymore and, as awful as a part of him found it, he had to push you now.
There was no leeway in his voice, you weren’t going to be able to dodge and weave your way out of this conversation now. “Basically, it was both Imperial Stormtroopers and their higher command officers.” You swallowed harshly. “They- they worked together on this one.”
Hunter simply stormed away from you to the ship’s controls. “Wrecker, let’s get the ship in the air.”
“You’re going to go after every Imperial officer and stormtrooper in the galaxy?” You scrappily tugged your top layer over you and hustled after the two of them as they strode into the cockpit.
“If I have to!” Hunter growled.
“I’m with the Sarge on this one.” Wrecker agreed severely as he started to power up the ship.
“It’s not that I don’t appreciate the thought but that’s not logical nor practical!” You argued.
“Don’t talk to me about practicality when they did that to you!” Hunter shouted angrily.
“It was my fault, Hunter!” You yelled back.
That caused both of them to pause and Wrecker turned off the engine.
“I did it to myself.” You said, your voice scarcely above a whisper as you braced yourself for the time you were about to relive.
“What are you talking about?” Hunter asked, his voice as quiet as yours now as he studied your face carefully.
“Before I tell you, I need you both to stay calm. Especially you.” You said to Hunter. You knew he wasn’t mad at you; his reaction had been exactly as you’d expected. His fierce protectiveness was a quality you loved about him, but it could be his undoing if he wasn’t careful. “And you need to know and accept that nothing would’ve changed it, it wasn’t your fault, it was mine. I acted in poor and emotional judgement and there was nothing you could’ve done to prevent it. Please, trust me on this.” You insisted with a pleading stare at him before you looked to Wrecker who- albeit hesitantly- nodded. You glanced to Hunter again who was still looking like he could take on the Empire singlehandedly. “Hunter?”
Hunter felt a keen sense of dread at your words, and it was highly likely he wouldn’t be able to view it quite as simply as that, but he allowed himself a deep and calming breath. He’d do this for you. “Tell me.”
You exhaled nervously and fidgeted with your hands. Realistically, you’d known you wouldn’t be able to go through the rest of your life without being found out or talking about it but that didn’t make doing this any easier. “I’m sure I don’t really have to go into how hard it was to find each other, right? I’m sure you guys had your fair share of failed leads and things were pretty hopeless for a while, yes?”
Hunter and Wrecker both nodded.
You took another breath. “Right, well, it was the same for me. During our time apart, nothing I did was getting me any closer to you and I could feel it draining me every day. Lyra and I arrived on Christophsis and decided to settle there but it didn’t help. No matter how hard I searched, no matter how much of myself I gave up when it came to getting what I wanted, nothing was bringing results, and I was angry. I was angry, frustrated and just miserable. And it was in that poor state of mind that I made a choice that I shouldn’t have.”
Hunter knew those emotions all too well and he’d get incredibly impatient and unfocused when they got overwhelming, but he’d been fortunate to have Wrecker around to pick up the load when it got too much. Yes, you may have had Lyra, but he knew you and how you operated, and you would’ve put it all on you, regardless of how exhausting it would’ve been and that’s what made him nervous as he awaited further explanation.
You shuffled your feet. “I was being a bit of a nuisance to the Empire wherever I went, Christophsis was no exception, but I was getting nowhere on the information front so, in my slightly unstable state, I figured the best way to find out about you or even Hemlock was to um well, find it straight from the source.”
Hunter’s heart skipped a beat. “No, no you didn’t.”
Wrecker looked between the two of you in confusion but then it clicked with him too and he stared at you, horrified. “Why would you do that?”
You swallowed thickly. “I thought that by handing myself in, I would be able to get the information I was needing. I figured they would have some form of intel on you I could use.” You huffed irritably as you remembered how foolish you’d been. “Turns out they were a lot smarter than I gave them credit for and they sussed out my plan pretty quickly.”
You winced as Hunter threw his helmet and it crashed against the wall. You expected no less but you needed to reign him back in if you had any chance of recounting the whole story. “That’s not staying calm.”
Hunter got to his feet and paced; his distress evident. “We were on your trail! If I’d been faster and picked our sources more carefully, you wouldn’t have had to-” Hunter seethed. How could he have failed you so badly? You’d put yourself through hell for their sake and if he had gotten to you sooner, you wouldn’t have had to have gone through this.
“Hunter, no.” You shook your head to stop him from putting the blame on himself. “The whole reason I did it was because the trail was running cold, and I was desperate. It was all on me. and I’m not done explaining this yet and it doesn’t get better, but you can’t do this. I understand and appreciate where it comes from, but it won’t help now, okay? Just let me finish it.”
Hunter clenched his jaw but did as you asked. He sat back down and nodded at you to continue but he was helpless to stop the anxious shaking of his leg.
You gritted your teeth as you prepared yourself for what you had to do next and any levity that you’d previously been forcing into your voice vanished. “Since they knew what I was and some of the general history between all of us, it’s like I said, they were aware of what I wanted, and they definitely weren’t up for giving it to me. They finally had me under their control, and they were very good at making sure I wasn’t getting away any time soon. Honestly, they were pretty creative with their methods and I’m sure some of them found doing what they did to me quite therapeutic.” That dismissive attitude slipped back in at the end without you meaning to. Frankly, you probably wouldn’t have noticed it if it weren’t for the sharp and worried looks from Wrecker and Hunter. You mentally checked yourself before you proceeded.
“Where they showed their inexperience however was when they got frustrated at how little I gave them. I don’t think they realised how hard it would be to crack someone like me. Their fists, their whips, their electrostaffs… it all hurt but it wouldn’t get me to talk. So, they went for something different, and that was what got them quite close.” You stopped again and found yourself touching the small pinprick scar as you remembered the sharp sting and then the complete haziness that would follow that would render your completely susceptible to anything they would do and say. “Whatever concoction they’d inject into my neck when they got bored or too tired from physically hurting me was nearly impossible for me to resist and that was a terrifying experience... I was having to fight my own mind while they happily watched on. That interrogator droid would enter, and- and my body would go cold with fear every time.” You paused for a chance to gather yourself and squeezed your eyes tight to rid yourself of the memories of that dark, cramped room they would take you where you were helpless to their cruelty and the last thing you would clearly recall would be the whirring of that droid approaching you.
You took another breath before you continued to speak. “That was what came close to breaking me and they worked that out. Every day they would inject me with that serum to make me submit to their words and they would tell me you were right outside. They- they would tell me that I would see- see you all again if I only told them how much I knew about Omega and where I was hiding…. And every day I would have to remind myself that it was all a lie… that you weren’t there, and I couldn’t reveal anything since that would put Lyra in danger too.” You released a shaky breath. “Or they’d try to convince me that you were going through the same thing I was and- and it was my fault and to get- to get it to stop I would have to tell them everything.” You felt a lump form in the back of your throat, but you forced yourself to talk through it. “They could beat me all they wanted but that was the thing that actually left a mark… these scars merely came with the territory.”
A troubled silence fell upon the walls of the Marauder as you finished. You picked at some imaginary lint on your leggings as a way to bring your emotions under control.
Hunter felt sick to his stomach. He could’ve saved you or made it so putting yourself in that position would never have needed to seem like a viable option. You’d needed him and he hadn’t been there. He’d let you down.
You caught a glimpse of his expression changing from anger to defeated sadness and he didn’t need to vocalise those thoughts; you were perfectly aware of what would be going through his head. “It’s okay.” You mouthed silently to him.
You shouldn’t be the one comforting him. A broken and anguished sigh left his throat. Okay? How was any of this okay? You’d subjected yourself to torture for them and had carried the burden of it by yourself for so long.
“How’d you get away?” Wrecker asked in quiet upset as he imagined you experiencing that.
You coughed and blinked back the tears that threatened to spill from your eyes. “Truth be told, it gets a bit blurry near the end. I…” You trailed off and frowned as you worked on accurately recalling what had gone down the day you got out. You hesitantly started your explanation again. “I remember overhearing that they were going to send me off world to a high security prison and I couldn’t have that. The trooper who put the cuffs on me to take me back to my cell was a rookie, I think he figured I was unconscious, so he used the regular ones that didn’t restrict my Force-wielding abilities. Then the dizziness and blackouts set in, I remember finding the strength to take him out, but I don’t exactly know how I proceeded from there. The next thing I do remember was collapsing outside the door to where we were living and Lyra dragging me inside.”
“Hunter?” You looked to him since he hadn’t said anything yet.
Hunter’s throat had gone so dry, he couldn’t summon words immediately. All that was racking through his head was how he could’ve prevented this and how he should’ve been there to save you. You never should’ve been the one to drag yourself out of that hellhole. The protective part of him wanted to find a way for you to come up with any identifying features that could assist in hunting down those who’d inflicted that pain on you but despite all you’d relayed to them, he was calmer now and he knew that wasn’t what you wanted. He may have failed you then, but he wouldn’t now. His focus now lay in what he could do for you now but there was an element to the explanation he was missing and once he had that, everything else could fall into place. “Why didn’t you tell me?” He murmured instead.
There was no accusation in his eyes, no pointedness or blame in his tone. You knew he just wanted to understand, and it was a fair question. “I was working on compartmentalising it; it was just going badly. And-” You stopped yourself from continuing and instead just started to back away. “Nothing.”
“And what?” Hunter pressed as he got to his feet and caught your hand before you could step away any further.
You shook your head. “It’s a stupid reason, I shouldn’t care about it.”
“Nothing you’re feeling about this is stupid. I might be able to help, you only need to tell me.” Hunter prompted tenderly as he stroked the back of your hand with his thumb.
You regarded him carefully, attempting to find some deception or falseness in his tone so you didn’t have to say it but, unsurprisingly, you didn’t find any. You bit your lip before speaking, “I didn’t want you to have to see them. They’re- they’re not exactly nice to look at.” You muttered as you dipped your head to stare at the floor.
The fact that that was even cause for concern felt like a punch to the gut but at least there was something he could do about it. He may not be able to go after the Imperials like he wanted but he could help you realise that was a non-issue for him and one that hadn’t even crossed his mind. “Wrecker, take a walk. I’ll be in touch when you can come back.” Hunter ordered his brother.
Wrecker wasn’t about to question him, so he did as he said. He rested a gentle hand on your shoulder in comfort. “Thank you for telling us.” He said before he left the ship.
You went to address Hunter, but he spoke first.
“Turn around.”
Your brow furrowed but you couldn’t deny the warmth that bloomed in your stomach at his words. “What?”
“Turn around.” Hunter repeated, his tone quiet but filled with dominance.
Despite your lingering questions as to what exactly it was that he wanted, you found yourself doing as he instructed. You could feel the heat in your stomach start to radiate throughout the rest of his body. Each steady thump of armour hitting the ground had goosebumps rising on your skin in anticipation and you felt him crowd your back and rest his chin in the space between your neck and shoulder.
Hunter kissed the sensitive spot behind your ear and as he felt you relax into him; he slowly grabbed the hem of your long-sleeved layer and lifted it over your head and dropped it to the floor of the ship. He didn’t let his eyes fall to the scars yet. Instead, he caressed the trail of goosebumps on your arms and continued to pay close attention to your neck, softy nibbling the areas that he knew would make you weak at the knees.
He could play your body so well; it was like the two of you hadn’t been parted for as long as you had been. You could feel yourself growing more and more compliant to his touch and desire coursed through your body. You only snapped out of it when you felt his touch go lower and he tugged the bottom of your vest top. You went stiff and immediately grabbed his hands in a panic. “Hunter, no. You-”
“Easy.” He soothed as he pressed delicate, featherlight kisses to the back and each side of your neck. “Trust me.” He rasped against your skin, but he waited for your signal.
You released a low, unsteady breath. You couldn’t live in this state of fear and shame forever. You trusted him with everything you had and that was why you felt yourself letting go of his wrists. Your breathing grew uneven, and your body trembled as you felt his bare hands graze underneath your vest top before, they held onto the hem of it.
“Relax… it’s okay. You’re okay now. Let me see.” He encouraged gently, only lifting when he saw you nod your permission.
His gaze finally dipped to your bare back, and he had to fight to keep his breathing calm as he felt his heart shatter once he saw the full extent of what had been done to you. Your back was a map of merciless and vicious scars, and he wanted nothing more to take away the pain they’d caused you and inflict it on his own body. But that was the only effect they had. He was not repulsed, not repelled by the sight of them. They did nothing to ruin his physical perception of you. You were every bit as beautiful to him now as you had been when he first met you on Devaron all that time ago. “You’re exquisite.”
You refused to believe that. These were different to the scars you were both used to that came with the impact of battle and you were under no illusions as to how unsightly they were. You went to turn to face him so he wouldn’t have to keep looking at them and to protest his words, but he sensed that and beat you to it.
“These do not define you. They do not define my view of you. You are strong, you are capable, and you are a force to be reckoned with and that is why I love you.” He started to lightly touch each one. “No amount of scarring is going to change that. You. Are. Beautiful. I will be there to remind you of that whenever you need it.” He pressed his mouth to the space between your shoulder blades.
Your body trembled under his touch and his sincerity threatened to overwhelm you. “Hunter-” You managed to choke out.
“I would tear the galaxy apart for you, if you wanted me to.” He hummed against your skin as he continued to trail his lips down your back, worshipping every mark that had been left on you so as to leave a new association with them now. “But I know that’s not what you need.”
A quivering breath left your lungs at his words and ministrations, and you knew you felt the same way. But it was because the two of you were aware of that line that your relationship worked so well- you could balance the sentiment with intent. You could feel him starting to make his way back up your back.
“So, what is it that you need?” He hummed into your ear before he placed his hands on your waist and sucked a mark over the tiny scar that rested on your pulse point.
You groaned and braced your hands on the wall that formed the entryway to the cockpit as you felt your knees buckle.
“Tell me, sweetheart. Tell me and it’s yours.” He asked again as his fingers started to dip beneath the waistband of your leggings whilst he pulled your earlobe between his teeth.
You knew exactly what it was, it was all you ever really needed. “You.” You gasped and you swore you felt him smile against your skin.
“You have me… always.”
You couldn’t hold out any longer, you turned around and crushed your lips against his with a groan and pushed him to the wall of the entrance to the cockpit. If he was taken aback by your abruptness, he didn’t show it as he matched your enthusiasm immediately, one hand coming to firmly grip your exposed waist whilst the other tangled itself in your damp hair, a desperate and eager noise leaving him as he got to feel your body press against his.
As you kissed him, your hands fisted his shirt and you pulled insistently but made no moves to actually step away to remove it, you were too addicted to the feeling of having him this way again… yet you needed to feel his skin against yours which is why you were thankful that he had enough willpower to separate himself from you and take it off himself.
The two of you breathed heavily and the air was thick with tension, but you were too focused on looking at what rested just past his collarbone. You hadn’t allowed yourself to check if he had held onto it for fear of what it could mean if it was gone, and your breath hitched. You touched the black leather cord and traced the small Jedi Order symbol on the end. “You- you kept it?”
“Of course, I did.” He softly uttered, if a little out of breath. He cradled your face in his palms. “What do I have to do to make you see what I see in you?”
Any answer died on your lips, and he passionately reconnected his mouth to yours, using your surprised gasp to deepen the kiss before he stepped away from the wall and started to direct you both down the narrow hallway to your bunk, muscle memory mapping the way as neither of you were content to separate to make the walk any easier.
A trail of clothes was left in your wake as you made your way to your bunk.
Hunter gently laid you down, his lips never parting yours before he patted your hip to get you to be on your front.
You still found yourself feeling reluctant. His beautiful brown eyes were laden with lust but there was also a deep and devoted sense of care behind them which was why you complied with his request. You trusted him.
Hunter went back to what he’d done earlier as he left delicate kisses to every scar that donned your back. What you endured was something no one should ever have to but what he could do now was make sure you knew that you didn’t need to hide them for the sake of other people- especially him- any longer. “You never have to worry about these. All that matters to me is that you’re here now, you got away, and you will never end up back there. More scars don’t have the power to change how I feel about you, nothing does. I love you for all that you are.” He planted a kiss to the base of your spine before he got you on your back to face him.
Hunter wiped away the salty tears that had escaped your eyes and nudged the side of your nose with his. “I love you. Always.”
“Always.” You repeated hoarsely as you were overwhelmed by the emotions that came crashing to the surface. You stroked back the smaller bits of hair that frequently slipped past his bandanna.
Hunter kissed your cheek before leaving a trial of kisses along your jawline whilst his hand slowly made its way down your body to rest between your thighs.
Your legs parted for him on instinct and your hips bucked into his touch and a soft moan left your throat.
His voice took on a low purr as he moved his fingers. “Here’s how this is going to work: I am going to tell you everything that I love about you which you are then going to repeat and… if you don’t…” He stopped and took his hand away as he saw that familiar expression on your face, and he couldn’t help the slight smirk that tugged the edges of his mouth as that expression turned into an affronted pout. “I stop.”
Your eyes widened at the very clear implications of what he had in store for you.
“Or this doesn’t have to go any further and we stop now.” He offered sincerely.
No, you didn’t want that. It had been too long, and you needed him like your lungs needed oxygen. You could do this. You nodded your consent.
Hunter angled his head to press his lips against yours before he started to move his fingers again, hungrily swallowing your appreciative gasp. He kissed you passionately, not in any rush to stop right now. He parted from you and took a second to appreciate the throaty sighs that left your mouth at his actions, the way you bit your lip and the slight wrinkle on your brow as you grew closer to your release. He’d missed being able to see you like this, but he was relishing the opportunity to relearn and do all the things that made your body contort in pleasure. “You’re beautiful.” He exhaled in complete awe.
You were so caught up in the pleasure radiating throughout your body that you had already forgotten his plan and you were too put out by the feeling of your climax fading away to recall where your side of the bargain came into it. “Hey-” You cut yourself off as you saw the expectant expression on his face and then you remembered what you had to do to get what you craved but that doubt was still there, and you felt awkward doing it. However, the reassurance and trust that also rested on his face saw to it that you did as he said. “I- I’m beautiful.”
Hunter bowed his head with a supportive smile before he carried on, the sound of your groan was like music to his ears. “Despite all that’s happened… all that we still have to do… you always find a way to make me smile.”
You were in a state of total euphoria and therefore failed to fully comprehend that he’d said something else. It was only when you felt him pull his hand away and the emptiness that followed that brought you back to the current situation. With a whine, you spoke again, “I- make- make you s- smile.” You ground out as you moved your hips in tandem with his touch as you chased your high.
He let you have your first climax, pausing to let you come down from it. Once your breathing evened out, he went again and kissed you before muttering against your lips, “You’re smart.”
“I’m- fuck.” You were too distracted by seeking the next release you were longing for to remember to respond, and you cried out in irritation as he stopped just before you reached it.
“Almost.” He crooned into your ear.
As frustrated as you were, you got your bearings and whispered, “I’m smart.”
“Good girl.” He praised, a grin on his face as your breath stuttered at his words, before he continued, curling his fingers in the way he knew would send you over the edge and sure enough, your hips lifted as your release crashed over you and a gratified moan sounded from you. However, he didn’t stop, he worked you through it and said, “You’re caring.”
The process got easier and began to feel more natural. You slowly started to understand that clinging on to that part of your past had made it impossible to fully come back. Keeping yourself hidden and refusing to acknowledge what you’d experienced had made it difficult to fathom that he could still want you this way but each affirmation from his, as silly as you’d initially felt at doing what he said, was helping cement the idea that you may not be able to change or fix what you’d gone through, but it didn’t have to control you anymore. You had a partner and family that loved you and who you adored and would do anything for. You would get through this and now you were beginning to feel like you could do it. You felt yourself believing what he was telling you. A whimper left your throat, and you could already sense that you were hurtling towards the edge again, but you repeated it. “I’m c- caring.” You said through panted breaths as you coped with the overstimulation.
“You’re doing so well.” He encouraged as he kept to his word and continued to touch you. “You’re strong.” He knew he was repeating himself, but they weren’t words he minded reiterating, and he needed you to know and believe it too.
“I’m strong.” You said breathlessly as your hands curled into the blanket beneath you as that feeling overcame you again.
He saw you through your next peak and took his hand away to give you a rest from the stimulation and simply stared at you and the blissed out look on your face. He had it committed to memory, but it never ceased to take his breath away every time.
You gathered yourself enough to smile at him. “Thank you.” You whispered as you lightly followed the shape of his tattoo. You clasped the back of his neck and attempted to pull him towards you, but he worked his way out of your grip and instead kissed the hollow of your throat before kissing his way down the rest of your body. Your head fell back as you realised his intent, but you had thought it would be time for him to take what it was he needed.
He could help the groan that left him as he finally put his mouth on you. He could get drunk off the taste of you, and it had been too fucking long since he’d had the chance to do so, and he wasn’t about to stop now.
You couldn’t help the way your hands tangled in his hair and tugged him closer to you, his appreciative growl sent shivers down your spine, but you were so sensitive, and you didn’t think you could manage another one. “Hunter, I can’t. Just-”
“One more. I know you can.” He encouraged desperately as he planted a kiss to your inner thigh, sucking a bruise into the skin, before he went back to where his attention was demanded. He needed you to fall apart on his tongue, he was addicted to it, every drop of you, every whimper that sounded from you was like his own personal drug and he would never tire of it. “You’ve been such a good girl… done everything I’ve asked for… just give me one more, sweetheart.”
That did it. Your back arched and you finished with a ruined and exhausted moan. You were completely spent but it felt so good. You barely registered him to come rest beside you, his lips pressed against your temple.
“I know that wasn’t easy, but I’m so proud of you.” Hunter murmured into your hairline as he stroked up and down your side.
You regained enough feeling in your limbs to turn on your side “What about you?” You queried, still struggling to catch your breath. You knew you would be sensitive but your overwhelming longing for him swiftly outweighed any concerns.
Hunter slowly shook his head as he brushed his lips against yours, taking them away when you went to deepen the kiss. “This was always about you.”
With each passing moment, you were gaining more clarity over your faculties, and you knew what you had to do. A seductive smile pulled at the corners of your mouth and your hand snaked down between you both.
“What-” Hunter inhaled sharply as he felt your hand wrap around him, and his jaw clenched as he fought the urge to thrust his hips into your touch. “Sweetheart, you don’t have to-”
“You said this was about me and what I need, right?” You hummed as you rested your forehead against his whilst your hand kept moving. You kept your touch teasing but just enough to drive him crazy.
“R-right.” Hunter said through a strained breath as he felt his restraint leaving him with every second you continued to touch him.
“And what I need is to feel you…” You brought your lips close to his, barely any space between you now. “Inside me.” You kissed him, tugging his lip between your teeth whilst your free hand entangled itself in his hair, the actions eliciting the depraved groan you had been looking for, and before you knew it, you were back on your back again with Hunter kissing you with a newfound fervour which you matched in kind. You wrapped your legs around him and drew him closer to you, smiling against his lips at the surprised huff that escaped him.
Hunter kept kissing you as he started to guide himself into you. He knew you would still feel tender and was careful as he slowly moved into you, both of your breaths catching at the feeling. His head fell to rest in the crook of your neck, biting down on the skin there before he soothed the sting of it with his tongue as he started to move, heavy grunts and pants leaving his lips as he got absorbed in feeling you this way after all this time.
Your nails dug into his back, and you could feel the muscles flex beneath your fingers and a sensual sigh left your lungs as you finally felt all of him.
One thought crossed your mind amidst the fog of pleasure that was spreading over your body. You’d let go of your fear now and you wanted to look for that connection again. Before, it had marked a level of certainty of your place here and overall mindset and if you couldn’t find it after all that had happened, there was a time where you would’ve been sure that it would mean there was no true way back for you. But now you understood that wasn’t and didn’t have to be the case. If it wasn’t there, you could work to get it back.
You used the Force around you to find his unique signature again and you could’ve wept with joy as you sensed it once more and it welcomed you with open arms. It had been waiting for you. You bridged the gap between you and allowed that feeling to flow through you. I love you.
Hunter paused his movements, and he stared down at you, a shocked but delighted cry left his mouth as he saw the broad and affirming smile on your face that told him he hadn’t imagined it. He’d wanted to have that back for so long and his heart soared as he realised what this meant for you. You weren’t holding back anymore; you were officially home.
You stroked a thumb along his cheekbone before clenched around him in an attempt to get him to keep going, a smug hum of laughter leaving you at the almost pained expression on his face as he got himself back under control before he started again.
“Do it again. Please.” Hunter requested frantically as he felt himself approaching his own release.
You smiled affectionately at him and continued to kiss him as you saw him through to his climax. I love you. I love you. I love you.
He finished with a strangled groan, and he collapsed on top of you. He stayed there for a few moments before he gently pulled out of you, stroking your hair as he saw you slightly wince at the action. “I’m sorry if it was too much.”
You shook your head. “It was perfect. You were perfect.” You reassured him as he laid down beside you and held you close to him. We should clean up.
Hunter made a sound of acknowledgement as he pressed his mouth to the crown of your head. “What made you do that again?”
“I let go.” You said simply before planting a chaste kiss to his lips before taking his hands in yours and guiding him to the refresher. “Come on.”
--
“What are you thinking?” Hunter asked as he watched you pick up the wrapped lightsaber from the shelf Wrecker had put it on. You hadn’t touched it since taking it from the bounty hunter.
“I can’t hold on to or fear the past anymore. We can only look to the future now and that future has us getting Omega back. And…” You uncovered the seemingly harmless looking weapon. “I think this will make achieving that easier.” You reached for it, hesitating for just a moment before you picked it up and it was an instant reaction. You took half a step back as the sensation of feeling that connection you hadn’t encountered for years threatened to overwhelm you. Flashes of your past as a youngling and echoes of previous battles and instructions from your master sounded in your head but it wasn’t scary this time, you were merely remembering the periods where this weapon had been your life.
Hunter placed a steadying hand on your shoulder. “You alright?”
You took one long breath. “Yeah. It’ll just take come getting used to, but it’s going to be worth it. I’m not hiding what I am these days, may as well have the whole image.” You said light-heartedly.
Hunter cupped your jaw and kissed you gently, both of you sighing contentedly into the sensation before Wrecker’s hesitant voice echoed through the comms.
“Um, Hunter… I hope I’m not interrupting eh anything now but um I was wondering if I could come back? I’ve started to wander in circles and I’m getting some suspicious looks.”
The two of you chuckled.
“Poor guy.” You said with a humorous shake of your head.
“Yeah, Wrecker, head on back and we can get outta here.” Hunter replied through his comm.
“Wrecker, how’d you fancy having an excuse to shoot at me?” You said into your comm, and the intrigued but excited cheer told you your answer.
“Shoot you?” Hunter repeated, titling his head at you inquisitively.
You grinned as you clipped your lightsaber to your waist. “Yeah, how else did you think I was going to train?”
--
“That’s 15 to 11!” Wrecker whooped as you came to after his stun blast hit your back.
Fuck you. You jabbed playfully as you accepted Hunter’s outstretched hand. He tugged you to your feet.
“You’re lasting longer.” Hunter commented supportively and- knowing you would want to go immediately again- walked away to take up his position.
You wiped the dirt from your clothing and removed your mask to take some deep breaths and find your centre again. Taking on jobs, following leads, mediating and lightsaber training… that was how you balanced your time; you were feeling more like the person you had been before your world had been torn apart. You’d never be able to be her again, but you could own who you are now and allow yourself to feel the emotions you’d been struggling against without suffocating in them anymore.
“But still not long enough!” Wrecker goaded. “I’ll always be in the lead!”
You didn’t take the bait. Instead, you took off your armour, gloves, and long-sleeved top.
“Hey, wait a minute, that’s not fair.” Wrecker protested.
Hunter turned inquisitively and his breath hitched. A soft sheen of sweat graced your skin and your body rippled with strength and untapped potential… and fuck did it make his heart skip a beat and his blood run hot. He was grateful his helmet was still on because the way his eyes widened would’ve given you too much material to work with right now, but he wasn’t able to hide the way his hand slightly fumbled as he unholstered his blaster. He wasn’t embarrassed by finding you attractive in this way, the frequent teasing he’d often received for it just made it harder to focus on the task at hand.
“The training stays the same and my strategy is my own. It’s not supposed to have an effect on you anyway.” You retorted with a smug grin as Hunter’s reaction went exactly as you’d anticipated.
“You better not mess this up for us, Hunter.” Wrecker warned as he shoved his brother’s shoulder to snap him out his reverie.
You laughed to yourself as you watched them. You picked up your lightsaber and ignited it, the blue blade thrumming at your side, and you felt that rush of connection and security. Having a blaster by your side was nothing compared to this.
It was a powerful sight that Hunter never got used to and quite frankly, part of him was relieved he’d never come across you as an official Jedi General during the war because if his reaction to seeing you train and work towards unlocking whatever you had been tampering down for so many years was anything to by, he would’ve gotten himself shot a long time ago- half your earlier victories came from redirecting his own stun blasts to him.
You got into your stance and faced the two clones as they readied their blasters. “Alright, let’s go again.”

[Prologue][Part 1][Part 2][Part 3][Part 4][Part 5]
Tumblr media
Meeting with the contact goes down without a hitch. You’re surrounded by scraggly trees and evergreens, snow heavy on bare branches and pine needles alike. You’re briefed on all the important information: who’s who, ongoing projects, expectations for your work. You nod along as you write down shorthand notes – really only intelligible to you, but you’ll burn them once you memorize the information regardless.
The rendezvous is short, but you’ll be seeing them again soon at your new ‘job’. You flip your notebook closed and dip your head briefly to acknowledge the end of the meeting. Olaf (not his real name) returns the gesture and stalks off, presumably heading back to the HYDRA facility.
You take your time getting back to the house – you want to give Bucky his privacy and time by himself to prepare for the workday ahead. You envy the monotony of working on vehicles all day: scouring the engine, finding the necessary parts, sliding under the metal frame and lying on your back for hours…
Come to think of it, maybe you shouldn’t imagine lying on your back for hours in the same thought process that involves Bucky. Too many memories and too much pain.
Regardless, anything is better than working for HYDRA, even if you are actively working to sabotage them while you’re there. Yeah, Bucky is here to keep an eye on you and provide backup and know-how, but you’re the one that is pivotal to this mission. The one that needs to get in, get out, and get gone before HYDRA realizes how big of a mess they’re in.
You begin fine-tuning the personality and mannerisms that will serve you best here. Olaf had explained the specific work culture of the HYDRA facility during the meeting, so you’re now better able to imagine your life for the foreseeable future: work, work, work, kidnapping, torture, experiments, exhaustion.
And going home to Bucky every night, your brain supplies. You mentally swat the words away. Of course you’re going ‘home’ to Bucky. He’s your immediate backup in case something goes wrong – he has to be close. Even if it’s not the intimate kind of close. Not the kind of close you used to be when this mission was first given to you last year. Not the close that originally had you posing as husband and wife, but the kind that now has Bucky as your brother.
A shiver courses through you at the thought, and you wrap your arms tighter around your snuggly bundled self. Bucky as your brother is the worst scenario you could possibly imagine, but everyone agreed that with the new tension between you and Bucky, romance wouldn’t be the wisest play up here.
A soft groan leaves your lips and you dip your head quickly in disappointment before popping back up and looking ahead. There’s no point in yearning for something that will never happen again. You need to actually move on, not just lie about it and pretend like you did. Bucky deserves that much. You deserve that much.
Taking a deep breath, you shift your focus back to the mission. It’s time to embrace the role, leaving behind the echoes of a love that was now confined to memories. You couldn't afford distractions or longing. HYDRA's demise depended on your unwavering commitment, even if it meant burying your heart's desires in the depths of your being.
***
You arrive home a short while later, the creaks and groans of the old house underlying the silence of the empty rooms. It seems that Bucky had left for work while you were out. Glancing over to the clock atop the fireplace mantel, you're taken aback to see how much time has passed. You must have been lost in your thoughts far longer than you had initially realized.
You close the door softly behind you and shuffle out of your coat. You hang it on a peg beside the door where your and Bucky’s other coats reside, noticing how well the colors reflect both of your personalities. You can’t help but laugh at the blacks, grays, and dark blues of Bucky’s jackets that contrast sharply with the whites, pinks, and pastels of your own. The smile lingers until you kick off your boots and walk further into the quiet house.
The echoing silence pulses in your ears and makes you uncomfortable. You hadn’t been alone like this in a very long time – there was always at least one person in the next room or house or building that you could reach out to. But with Bucky at his ‘new job’ and no neighbors knocking on the door to welcome you to the neighborhood, you feel totally isolated.
With nothing else to do besides wallow in loneliness, you decide to throw on some music and dive into all the information the team has gathered on this HYDRA location. You’d skimmed the files on the way here yesterday, but now you had the time to really peruse. You run upstairs to change into comfortable clothes and throw your hair up and away from your face. You return downstairs and pull out your laptop, setting up camp at the kitchen table. You open your favorite music streaming app and hit play, starting up your ‘get shit done’ playlist. You bop your head to the beat and dig in.
***
Hours later, you hear the door creak open and Bucky steps inside, his face smudged with grease and a tired smile on his lips. You rise from your hunched position and stretch your aching muscles. The pain in your upper back and neck eases slightly as you greet him, "Hey, Bucky. Welcome back. How was your day at the garage?"
Bucky wipes his hands on a rag, glancing at you with a mix of exhaustion and genuine warmth. "Oh, you know, the usual. Fixing engines, tinkering with parts. It's a nice change of pace from our usual gigs."
You nod, attempting to keep the conversation light. "Well, at least you get to put your mechanical skills to good use. It must feel good to work with your hands again."
A brief moment of silence hangs between you as you both glance down to Bucky’s hands. His metal arm is covered by Stark tech that makes it appear as if he’d never lost it in the first place. You can tell how uncomfortable he is with the sight after working so hard and so long on learning to accept himself the way he is now. He picks at the fake skin, pulling it slightly away and letting it snap back into place. Bucky clears his throat, his voice a touch hesitant, "It doesn’t quite feel right, ya know?"
You shift in your chair, tucking your leg up under you. "No, I get it, Bucky," you say. “Doesn’t feel like you, does it?” You give him a smile and a small shrug of your shoulders, as if what you’re saying is common knowledge and an opinion that everyone shares, “If you ask me, I prefer the metal.”
Bucky's eyes soften and he stops fidgeting with the skin, letting his arms drop down to his sides. “Yeah,” he agrees, “me too.”
You nod, trying to hide the warmth swelling in your chest. "Anyway," you begin. “I’ve been going over the data that you guys have gathered in the last few months. There’s a lot here, huh?”
“Yeah.” Bucky sighs and walks over to you, taking the chair opposite and stretching out his legs underneath the table. His feet encroach on your space and nearly rest underneath your chair, the table not really accommodating for his size. You pick up the one leg you still have dangling off the chair and tuck it under you with the other one. Bucky places his hands behind his head and leans back. “All of my memories of this place are hazy, but this place was a real piece of work.” A grimace mars his face and his eyes start to cloud over.
Wanting to shift the conversation away from the discomfort he may be remembering, you change the subject, "So, did anything noteworthy happen at the garage today? Any signs of HYDRA activity in the town?"
Bucky's eyes shift with a sense of purpose, grateful for the chance to discuss something less complicated. "Actually, there was something unusual. I overheard a couple of guys mentioning some military-grade vehicles arriving tomorrow for inspection. Might be worth investigating to see if they’re HYDRA."
As you delve into mission-related details, a sense of normalcy descends upon the conversation. The awkwardness and unspoken emotions linger in the background of your mind, but for now, the focus is on the task at hand. You understand that the mission takes precedence over personal matters, and you commit again to putting aside your feelings for the sake of success and Bucky’s peace of mind.
With a renewed determination, you delve into strategizing and planning, resolute in your shared mission to dismantle HYDRA's operations.

Obey Me Flufftober Day 5
Prompt: Reunion
Pairing: Asmodeus x reader (gender neutral)
Word count: 613
A/n: Welcome to day 5 everyone! I've been really looking forward to writing some Asmo fluff, as I feel it is sorely lacking in comparison to angst and smut with him.
Going back to the human world was always difficult for you. For one, the transition from Devildom to human world was rough, as the two were just so different. One minute you were in a fantasy world filled with interesting creatures and strange magic, and the next you were stuck in your average, mundane life. It gave you serious tonal whiplash, but that wasn't even the worst part. No, the worst part was being away from all of your friends, and especially your beloved Asmodeus. Any time you would leave, you missed him dearly. Of course, you would call and text him whenever you could, but it just couldn't compare to seeing him in person.
Luckily, you were scheduled to return to the Devildom soon. It would still be about a week, but you were so close. Plus, you've already been gone for almost three months, so what's another week at this point? Hopefully it goes by quick, but you suspect that it'll drag on like every other week has so far.
The week did, in fact, drag on. You could practically feel every second tick by as you waited and waited. It was absolute torture, but you knew it would pay off soon. And, by the sound of your phone going off, it seems Asmo feels the same way you do. As per usual, he's begging you to come back early, or to let him come and see you, but you both know you can't to either. Both of you have responsibilities to attend to right now, and it would be much to complicated for you to carve time out of your schedule to see him early. In the mean time, you settle with seeing him over FaceTime, and for a while it feels normal.
Finally, after what felt like centuries, it's time to go back to the Devildom. More specifically, it's time to see Asmo again. You can barely contain your excitement as you're teleported to the Student Council room. As many times as you've done this, you've never been able to shake the giddy feeling you get when you return. Not that you would ever want to, of course.
You land in the middle of the room as always, and the first thing you hear is a squeal of delight, followed by the sound of running. Before you can comprehend what is happening, you're engulfed in a pair of arms, though this was to be expected. Asmo wraps you tight in his embrace, and you doubt he'll let go any time soon. His brothers are quick to follow, although much calmer than he. You attempt to greet the others, but Asmo is quick to draw your attention back to him. This happens every time, so no one bothers trying to stop him anymore.
Asmo nuzzles into you affectionately, speaking about how much he missed having you with him. You let him talk, letting his words sink in as you adjust to being back where you belong. Back in the Devildom, and back in Asmo's arms. Despite his loud voice right next to your ear, you're at complete peace.
As Asmo continues to rant about all of the activities he has planned out for you to do together, you lean into him, content to stay like this for as long as life would allow. Apparently, life would not allow long as Lucifer decided now was the time to return to the House of Lamentation. That was fine with you. Going back to the house means returning to Asmo's room, where you can stay with him in peace. You couldn't think of a better way to spend your first day back home.

To Build a Home
Summary : Post Order 66, Hunter x Jedi ! Reader, established relationship, reader is part of TBB's whole found family thing.
Before Order 66, meditating with your fellow Jedi had always brought warmth, comfort and peace. Now, when all of the people you grew up and fought with are gone, meditation felt cruel and torturous. Hunter doesn't know the first thing about Jedi, but hell if he won't try his best to bring you any peace he can.
Warnings : Grief and loss (Order 66 related), doom 'n gloom, enough hurt-comfort for a lifetime, Hunter would literally die for his found family. Who actually proof reads? I really hope this shows up in the tags :')
Tumblr media
During your Padawan years, your Master had fondly chastised you time and time again over your relentless urge to sneak away and gaze at the stars, yet even then he would make no move to get you inside. Instead, your Master would sit at your side and relish the moment with you, turning your adventures into what eventually became routine meditation practice.
Then, after your Master's passing, your friends and fellow Padawans took his place, sitting wordlessly in the temple gardens with you night after night, the stars blanketing you all. Naturally, you had become used to meditating with others, bonding and feeling safe and protected with your force signatures intertwined. So when the end came, when the galaxy turned on the Jedi Order and culled your friends, your family, meditation had never quite been the same.
Where there was once the warmth of the embrace of your peers' force signatures there now remained only cold, desolate emptiness. No more Jedi, no more community, just you and the infinite sky above. Isolation.
Of course, you had a new family to rely on during the daylight. The Bad Batch had carried out mission after mission with you and Anakin before Order 66, so naturally they were fast to take you in and make you one of their own when you were at your most vulnerable, a whole army against you.
Over the months you had built up an even more unbreakable bond with the members of Clone Force 99. One member in particular had built a connection so pure with you that you had eventually been unable to resist, sharing your souls and hearts with each other.
Hunter had always been so gentle with you, had taken the time to get to know every part of you - what made you laugh, cry, fluster. He wanted to know it all, and in turn he shared his own weaknesses with you.
So, unsurprisingly, your Sergeant had come to be able to read you like a book. In short, this meant that you couldn't hide a thing from him, so when he noticed you seeming more drained and hollow as of late he didn't even give you the chance to make an excuse.
"Cyare, come on now," he spoke so softly, voice scraping the bottom of his range. "Tell me what's got you all distressed, mm?"
Hunter had cornered you in your shared room on the Marauder while the rest of the Batch were in the cockpit.
Sighing in defeat at being caught, you dropped to sit on your cot, avoiding Hunter's gaze. Ever so carefully, not wanting to scare you off, he seated himself at your side. His gloved hand worked its way up to your jaw, gently tilting your head up and toward him.
"You know you can tell me anything, don't you?" For being such an intimidating fighter Hunter could be so soft with you behind closed doors. How could you possibly lie to him.
"I just- I've been trying to-" you huffed, looking for the words to explain it. Your brows must have furrowed, because Hunter's thumb slipped from your jaw to your forehead, smoothing the frustration away.
" 'S okay, take your time to think, cyar'ika."
Soothed by his reassurance, you took a few deep breaths and started over.
"Back at the Temple, or even on missions and just- all the time. We meditated, the Jedi I mean. We were taught to do it ever since we were brought to the Temple as younglings, sort of like an induction to the Order. It was the most important thing to the Jedi. We all used to sit together under the stars, both as kids and right before everything went to hell. It was sort of a tradition, I guess. Anyway- I, I've been trying to do it again recently - keeps me grounded if that makes sense. It's peaceful. Or it used to be. Every time I try now it just hammers in the fact that they're all gone. My friends, the Jedi, everything. Doesn't work the same if it's just me. I just feel so... wound up. It's all getting to be too much, and without the ability to destress by meditating I'm almost becoming disconnected from the force. I haven't truly felt it since before Order 66. I just feel sort of drained."
You already felt some of the tension melt off of you from finally speaking your problems out loud. Hunter would always be there to listen to you, you knew that, but isolating yourself when you were worried had become a bad and unavoidable habit.
Hunter called your name, his voice so incredibly tender. It made you break out of your trance, becoming aware that you had been staring down at your feet while you rambled. Your eyes went wide, snapping up to Hunter's in fear of having overdone it. Instead, when your eyes met his, you saw no judgement, only sympathy and understanding.
"Oh, Love. I'm so sorry," He shuffled closer, enveloping your clenched fist in his large hand. "Look, I uh- I can't pretend I know the first thing about the Jedi and how you meditate, but - if it helps - I'd like to try. With you, I mean. I know I'm not Jedi, but maybe my being with you would help ease your loneliness if only a little. Enough to do your meditation."
As your eyes began to swell and spill with tears, Hunter panicked, thinking it was his words that had upset you.
"Oh kriff, no don't cry. Hey I'm sorry, forget I said anything. I shouldn't have tried to interfere in your Jedi stuff-" he blurted out, speaking faster than his brain could think.
"No, Hunter, no," you choked out, a trembling and watery smile pulling at your lips. He only looked more confused now, like a tooka in headlights. You laughed wetly. "I- I'd love that. Really. I just never thought you'd be willing."
Hunter sighed in relief, shoulders drooping. He lifted his hands to rest on each of your shoulders, lowering his face to meet yours.
"I'm always willing. You don't need to be afraid of asking me anything, you hear me? I'm yours, Cyare, and I hate seeing you like this. If there's anything in the galaxy that will make you feel better then I'm ready."
You let out a shaky breath, more tears escaping down your cheeks at Hunter's tenderness. Keeping his hands at your shoulders, Hunter tilted his head into yours, keeping you steadily against him in a keldabe kiss. You dug your fingers behind his breastplate, knuckles taut. Nodding against his forehead you inhaled and steadied yourself.
"Thank you. Yes I'd- thank you, Hunter."
"Always," he whispered, sealing gap between his and your lips, melting into you so sweetly. "I love you, cyar'ika. I always will. I'm here for you."
"Tonight then," you suggested. "When the stars come out."
"That's a promise," he agreed.
When the sun finally retired for the day and darkness engulfed the planet, you and Hunter slipped out the Marauder, hand in hand.
"So," he began, fingers intertwined with yours. "How's this work, huh?"
"C'mere," you replied, smiling fondly at your love and tugging him to a hilltop tree nearby.
You finally freed his hand as you lowered yourself to sit cross legged in the cool grass beneath the trunk, waiting for him to join you. No questions asked, Hunter sank to his knees at your side, crossing his legs just like yours. You moved a hand to rest on his knee, immediately feeling the warmth of his force signature flowing through your veins.
"Oh," you gasped.
"Everything alright?" he asked, concern lighting his eyes.
"It's- oh, Hunter, you were right. I- can feel the force again, I can feel your presence, it's - thank you, Hunter."
He smiled, briefly taking your hand from his knee to lift it to his lips so he could dust kisses across your knuckles. Letting it drop back to his knee, Hunter shuffled slightly to get comfortable.
"Right then," he grinned, "you gonna show me how to meditate or what."
You laughed, squeezing his kneecap then turning away from him, closing your eyes.
You took time to inhale and exhale deeply, trying not to crack up at Hunter copying your actions by your side. You couldn't wipe the peaceful smile from your face if you tried.
Letting your mind drift, you finally felt that welcoming tug of the force after such a long time, and you let it drown you. Everything felt warm and safe, your heart squeezing, muscles shivering then smoothing out. Wanting to show Hunter just how grateful you were, you used every last ounce of your energy to channel your feelings through the force and into him. You heard him gasp, his enhanced senses increasing the sensations tenfold.
"Oh," he breathed, understanding heavy in his voice.
You felt the peace and happiness radiating from his force signature as you entwined it with yours, knowing without looking that Hunter had become almost boneless with bliss.
And under the stars that night, you and Hunter began your brand new ritual, two presences in the force becoming one.

Psychic!Jaemin x Reader (She/her)
Warnings: Hell is depicted at the start (eternalsuffering), religious/ occult imagery, physical and emotional violence
WC: 4.8K
It’s impossible to tell how much time passed. Hell makes it so you’re constantly exhausted but unable to sleep for more than an hour at a time. Jaemin is only kept alive thanks to the bracelet Satan gave him, but you can tell he’s struggling.
You needed to get him back to earth.
You were given full reign to roam Satan’s castle, but behind every door and unknown hallway was horror personified. Jaemin, however, was not allowed to roam without you or Satan, making it difficult for you to even begin to plot an escape for him.
Each 24 hour cycle started with you being dragged to Satan’s throne room, having to listen to the pleas of tortured souls beg for mercy only for Satan to deny them. Following that, you were allowed an hour or two of grace before being yelled at by the Prince’s of hell and humiliated for not having flames as strong as Satan before then getting your ass kicked.
“How dare you be the one father chooses to give his throne to?” Was a very popular sentiment.
To that, you never replied, but in your head the answer was always the same- you didn’t want the throne. You didn’t want it at all! You wanted to be a normal human on earth with the love of your life- not being tortured on an endless loop.
Your reprieve was seeing Jaemin at the last few hours of the cycle. Sobbing into each other’s arms in the small windowless room of the castle (you considered it a blessing to not have a view of the tortured souls) until sleep could finally overtake you was when you could achieve true reprieve.
The white, circular room in which Jaemin used to spend his nights alone had changed.
“This is the main building of Knight’s Cross,” you noted the night it first changed. You had grown used to the white room that held all of his visions, but this was a much welcomed change. You two walked hand in hand, sneaking peeks into different lecture halls that had different visions playing on large screens. “I love it, Jae.”
“Yeah… I love it too,” Jaemin squeezed your hand. Sitting in a lecture hall, Jaemin held you as you watched parts of Mark's future.
The screen was grainy, but it was of him getting accepted into his dream college to transfer into their creative writing program. Knight’s Cross did not have this major, and it was something you knew always made Mark unhappy. The clip, still grainy, switched to Mark venting to Johnny.
“I can’t go,” Mark was pacing the faerie’s dorm up and down.
“Sure you can,” Johnny was nonchalant, despite your brother’s anxiety.
“I don’t want to take on Knight’s Cross but… she isn’t here. She’s the one who deserves to be Knight’s Cross next leader.
You leaving may have saved your brother’s life, but it also left him a burden he too did not deserve to bear.
End of a 24 hour cycle- which meant you were yanked out of bed and forced to start all over again. Rinse. Repeat. Until, one day, you find yourself waking up naturally with Jaemin, and real sunlight kissing your cheeks. You were expecting this warmth to be removed by force in some sort of cruel jokes, but you slowly blinked open your eyes, your breath catching.
You were in your family home, in your old bedroom.
“Jae!” you were shaking his shoulders despite him already being weak, wanting to see if this was real- how could you even be back? Jaemin was groggy, and as you were loud in your shouts of glee, you could hear stomping down the hall outside your room.
“We… how the fuck?” he seemed afraid to be happy, and you couldn’t blame him. How was it your chest wasn’t bogged down by painful weights and you were able to breathe in air that didn’t sear your lungs?
The door to your room burst open and Mark rushed in, immediately wrapping you in a hug. Others flooded into the room and swallowed both you and Jaemin in tight embraces marked with tears of joy.
“Is this real?” you asked your family, both you and Mark sobbing onto each other's shoulders.
“Y-yes,” your Dad was hardly able to speak as the tears were making it difficult.
“Sicheng told us all what happened the night you guys disappeared,” Hendery was still hugging you both but was the only one not in tears, “so, with his abilities we all sort of got to work.”
“Sicheng and another person entered hell so that you two could leave,” Mark finished. You paused, looking at the people here with you- who else could have gone to hell with Sicheng?
“It… it was your birth Mom. He managed to locate her and big along,” Ten’s tears had subsided enough to answer the question you hadn’t even voiced yet. This was surprising to you. Your birth mother was alive, and seemingly had no interest in knowing you- and truly, you had no interest in knowing her. You were just thankful to everyone for saving Jaemin and yourself- this was your family. You were back on earth with your family, the love of your life, and that was all you could have ever asked for.
So, when you get Mark alone, you convince him easily to take the chance and switch schools. You were going to hate not having your brother at all times, but you were happy that he was happy, and were excited to see where his future would take him. You were also excited at the prospect of learning the full ins and outs of Knight’s Cross College, and as two years passed and you finished your first degree, you were ready to begin shadowing your father on the job.
Before your college graduation, however, there was one more ceremony you had to attend.
You fixed the collar of Jaemin’s scarlett blazer, dusting off his shoulders before you took a step back. Yuta’s family colors were a deep scarlet and black, and it was tradition for the oligarchy to wear the family colors of the soon to crowned leader of the mythics
“You look great,” you complimented. Yuta’s coronation was set to start in an hour, and your house was in chaos as all of your friends were frantically doing their finishing touches. You wore a scarlet dress with a black shrug, making sure to match Jaemin as best as possible. The psychic seemed nervous, and you squeezed his shoulder to silently ask.
“I… Blue, I have to tell you something,” Jaemin felt guilty. He knew the coronation would go smoothly, but he was well aware of what would happen afterwards.
“Hang on, I have something I want to give you,” you slipped into the kitchen, grabbing the small wrapped item. You returned to the living room, Jaemin tapping his fingers nervously together. God, he was so beautiful. You blinked quickly, handing him the package.
“What is it?”
“You have to open it,” you teased. You were nervous, watching as his ringed index fingers slowly began to unravel the package you picked up earlier. “I think the reason you couldn’t find that Sly Cooper comic is because… I was the one that was meant to find it at a reasonable price.”
His eyes went wide as he looked at the comic he had been hunting for several years.
“Yeah sure maybe I wasn’t officially your soulmate but,” you were just speaking now, waiting for him to say anything until he tilted your head up and pressed a small kiss to your lips.
“We were always meant to be soulmates… thank you for this,” he gestured to the comic, and you could feel the giddiness.
“Of course! I came across it at the comic convention a few weeks back,” you stopped smiling, remembering the nerves that still visibly sat behind Jaemin’s smile.
“So, is everything okay?” you kept your voice low hoping the two vampires upstairs wouldn’t be able to hear you two.
He grabbed your hand with his free one, hoping to quell some of your nerves, “yes just… well… I…”
“Jae, spit it out.”
“Yuta spoke to me about when he takes the crown, he wants to end the oligarchy and have me as the interim chancellor until elections can be made,” Jaemin spat out. Your eyes were wide as you ran through what he was saying.
“How clear is this future?” you asked. Yuta may have spoken with him, but you knew Jaemin would verify the path before accepting or declining. He wouldn’t even bother telling you if the likelihood wasn’t high enough.
“... Clear. Crystal Clear.”
“... Okay,” you nodded, “do you want to be leader?”
“I… I think so.”
“Good. You’re going to be great,” you affirmed. You wanted to always have Jaemin’s back, and even if it made you nervous, you knew he would be the leader the mythic world needed.
“You’re not mad?”
“Jae- why would I be mad? I’m proud of you, and I’m happy Yuta sees in you your abilities to lead.”
He squeezed your hands, laughing in embarrassment at his own fears, “good, because I’ll need you with me every step of the way.”
“Good, because you won’t be getting rid of me that easily.”
You kissed the tip of his nose only to hear sounds of disgust. Looking up towards the stairs, you saw Mark and Hendery cringing at the site.
“It’s been two years,” you sighed in defeat.
“Still gross,” Hendery moved past the two of you, slapping Jaemin’s shoulder as he did. The night prior, mythics who did not have to travel from afar, were ‘highly encouraged’ to help do the work of any final preparations needed for the coronation, and as such, most of your mythics friends parents were roped into the task. According to Jaemin’s mother, whom you had dinner with the night before, stated it was mainly ceremonial- selecting the proper flowers, and making sure the protection barriers were up.
The living room slowly filled up with everyone else in your group, and Jaemin squeezed on the couch next to you after putting the comic away in your room. Ten skipped downstairs afterwards to show off his new scarlet suit, and Johnny slinked down shortly thereafter with his hair slicked back. Chaein entered the space after rummaging through your family’s fridge, her multiple earrings jingling as her elf ears twitched to absorb any noise. Taeyeon has been ready for a while in her silver chain dress. Her and Chaein’s families weren’t in the oligarchy, so while Taeyeon wore her family’s strong silver, Chaein wore a soft lilac dress accented only by the baby pink shawl on her shoulders.
Taeyeon promised to not try and listen to any of the psychics' thoughts, but judging by Jaemin’s glare she couldn’t help herself from at least trying. It’s easy to tell when a mind reader has been rifling through your current thoughts- it physically feels like a hand is combing through your brain. Jaemin’s simple glare at her was enough to get her to back off. He couldn’t exactly blame her- Jaemin could see the future, and she could read his brain.
“Who is Yuta going to have holding the item he’s sworn in on?” Johnny asked as you all waited on your father.
“Don’t they usually swear on scrolls from the Sect of Satan?” Taeyeon asked. Satan’s name didn’t send the fearful chill down your spine as it once had. He may be your biological father, but with Sicheng at the helm and Satan apparently off somewhere with your biological mother, your fear of him had begun to dissipate. It helped that you had Jaemin to cling onto when those fears creeped their way back up, but you were there for him when they rose for him as well. It also especially helped to get the occasional letter from Sicheng, reminding you that earth was yours and hell was his.
“I know he’s swearing in on a copy of Frankenstein,” Ten added. While everyone in your group over the past two years came to know of your biological heritage, no one had made you feel weird for it at all. It was all you could have ever asked for.
“Why Frankenstein?” Chaein had voiced what you were also wondering. Frankenstein was your favorite novel, and while Jaemin mentioned in passing that Yuta was in a human literature course, you couldn’t understand why he would pick that.
Ten shrugged and you all sat in silence. While you had come to accept your past, you couldn’t help the guilt you felt regarding the soon to be King. It was clear to everyone that being King was the last thing Yuta wanted, but you knew that it was indirectly because of you that he was put in this position. You wanted to tell him, but you had no idea where to even start. You tried soothing yourself with what Jaemin told you, but the feeling was still hard to shake.
“Did we decide on a cape or no cape?” Your father came barreling down the stairs. Your family’s colors were the same as Knight’s Cross College- a deep Navy blue accented by a rich gold. Your Dad’s suit consisted of the Navy with leaves of gold stitched onto the sleeves. The cape was a gaudy gold color that everyone physically cringed at, earning a sigh from your father as he went back upstairs to put it back.
“I wish you were in our colors,” Mark randomly spit out, earning laughs from the rest of the room.
“Dude, Jaemin is having her up there with the rest of the oligarchy, she can’t stick out like a sore thumb,” Hendery shook his head.
“But still! I can still feel like that!” Mark’s response earned a boo from everyone else, just as your father finally returned to the living room ready to go.
The group was then split in half for the journey- your father, Mark, Ten, Johnny, and Hendery in one car, and the rest of you in Taeyeon’s smaller vehicle.
The coronation was to be held in an isolated area about a half an hour out from town in a mythic non-denominational worship hall- or an old church, depending on who you asked. Chaein swore the place was beautiful. You were just glad it wasn’t a sect of Satan. You may not fear him, but the nightmare of hell would have been enough to turn you away from a building worshiping it.
The first fifteen minutes of the ride was quiet, the only noise in the car being the radio Chaein was managing, and the sound of the car’s wheels along the road. Trees lined both sides of the road, making it difficult to gauge much in terms of distance and how far along you really were.
“How do mythics prevent humans from just… waltzing over to this place?” You asked, breaking the silence.
“With fairy dust usually,” Taeyeon answered. “There isn’t a lot that can be produced… ethically, so it’s usually saved for important structures like this one.”
“Why is this building so important?”
“Well, it’s where the agreements amongst the mythics was initially signed. So, most rulers choose to have their coronations here,” it was Jaemin that explained this. “Most, except for like three I think.”
“An elvish king, maybe a vampire queen?” Chaein wondered out loud, earning a sigh from the mind reader.
“Do you guys even pay attention in your mythic history classes? It was all the previous Na psychics,” Taeyeon sucked her teeth. “Jaemin, how do you not know that?”
“A Na hasn’t been a ruler in either of my parents lifetime, it’s not super relevant to me,” he chuckled and you rolled your eyes.
“Especially with the addition of elvish families and mind readers into the oligarchies, I don’t blame you,” you added.
“At least you know that much about the oligarchies,” Taeyeon conceded. The greenery began to thin out. The trees began to fade and giveaway to large, grassy knolls and empty fields only bordered by small wooden fences.
“We’re getting close,” Chaein stated, earrings ringing. The car was silent for several more minutes, the only thing you could see being miles and miles of empty fields until Taeyeon turned into what seemed like random iron gates on vacant farm land.
At the front of the iron gates was a burly man with a cloak that concealed his face. He gestured to Taeyeon to lower her car window, to which she obliged.
“Everyone in the car please state your name and species,” they leaned themselves against the frame of the car, until their eyes settled on Jaemin. You looked over at Jaemin, noting his blank stare as one of his eyes was white. The man’s eyes widened in shame as he quickly let go and bowed. “I did not realize a member of the oligarchy was in this vehicle, my deepest apologies. Please proceed.”
“Thank you!” Taeyeon hollered, not raising her window as the iron gates opened and allowed you all to enter what seemed like empty farm land. “That guy shit himself when he saw Jaemin,” she giggled.
“Happy to help,” Jaemin replied, earning a chuckle from everyone else in the car. Before your eyes then, the sunlight seemed to shift. It was as if the sun was reframing itself, and the lighting adjusted to reveal a massive, ornate Victorian structure, cars lining themselves around the building and slowly having different mythics shuffle towards it.
Stepping out of the now parked car, the ground around you shifted from gravel to a beautiful marble that flanked the entire area.
“Woah,” you breathed out once you stepped out of the car, your eyes as wide as saucers as you took in the site. You initially saw the building as Victorian with it’s steeply pitched roof and ornate gables, but the asymmetry in the design, the disproportionately weighty towers, coupled with the building being coated in an eggshell white threw off any proper time period you could place it in.
“It is pretty cool, huh?” your Dad had parked next to you all and was adjusting his coat next to you as you admired the building.
“It’s incredible.”
“Yeah, the beauty of it never ceases to amaze me either,” he affirmed, before pulling you into a side hug. “You know I’m proud of you, right?”
“I haven’t done anything.”
“I’m still proud of you.”
“Thanks, Dad”
“All right, we’ve gotta go before the council kills us,” Ten yanked yours and Jaemin’s arms, pulling you forward and away from your party. You didn’t catch too much attention as you maneuvered through the small crowds to slip to the back of the building, all the while your shoes pounded the marble flooring. Before Ten could even knock on the large, wooden oak doors, the door sprang open to reveal Ten’s mother.
“Oh, my baby!” she cheered, rushing to wrap him in a hug. Her outfit was a large, poofy, scarlett dress that seemed to swallow Ten as she kept him pressed to her tightly.
“I was with you yesterday!” he bemoaned, trying to get out of her embrace. She sighed, following his wishes. She moved aside then, allowing her son to move past her.
“Hello,” Jaemin greeted blankly, also moving past her.
When her eyes landed on you as you approached, you smiled widely, and wrapped each other in hugs. You sometimes can forget how cold vampires naturally are, and even though her embrace made you chilly, her sheer enthusiasm was enough to make you feel warm.
“You look so lovely,” she smiled, looking back over her shoulder to glare at Jaemin, “have you complimented her?”
Jaemin was reeling, “I… I hope I did! She looks perfect.”
Ten’s mother scoffed before pushing you inside the building. “Men, I swear. Anyways- Ten, show them the way to the dressing spaces.”
“Got it,” Ten affirmed before leading the way. Jaemin squeezed your hand tightly as if you were going to slip away.
The back hall was a bustling area, several other mythics in red and black colored garments walking around and asking questions, organizing papers, and seeming to be in a panic.
Brushing past the main back hall, you were led to a small hallway that seemed to hold different dressing rooms. The walls changed from the bricks to old, floral wallpaper, and you found yourself getting increasingly frustrated by the strange design of the building. Some rooms were open, and you could hear laughter from a few, smoke emanating from another, but it was mainly quiet as you were led towards the end of the hall.
“These are my family’s,” Ten stopped in front of the last open door. It showed an open parlor with several vampires of varying ages lounging on large couches, stopping their gossip to begin waving Ten in.
“Yeah I’m coming,” he rolled his eyes, but you knew he was happy to see them before he looked back, “see you guys on the other side.”
“See ya,” you waved as Ten shut the door. Turning back to Jaemin, you saw he had moved to one of the last doors in the hall, glaring at the door. “You okay?”
“Yeah…” he faced you then as you reached him, before he wrapped an arm around your waist, “you really do look amazing.”
“You don’t look too bad yourself,” you complimented, earning a small kiss on the cheek.
Jaemin opened the door, and instead of seeing his parents and sister as you had expected, it was just a single person seated in front of a mirror.
“I thought vampires didn’t show up in mirrors,” you joked, hoping to mask the surprise you and Jaemin felt upon seeing the soon to be king waiting in Jaemin’s family room. Yuta laughed before he stood up tall.
His suit jacket and pants were fully encrusted in ruby and Alexandrite, and with the countless rings on his fingers and the way his hair was combed, there was no doubt he was set to be king.
You saw in the mirror Jaemin’s eye go white before flipping back to their natural brown.
“So you know why I’m here,” Yuta noted the change, moving closer to you both.
“For me, my answer is yes. It hasn’t changed from last time you asked,” Jaemin looked towards you, a small smirk forming on his lips. He looked so handsome, you wished for a second that Yuta wasn’t there so you could be alone, but you blinked the thought away. “I’ll give you two some space.”
This surprised you as Jaemin stepped out of his family room, sending a wink your way before shutting the door. Your boyfriend who was once insecure about a potential future had grown a lot in the time since you had first met.
You met Yuta’s gaze, gesturing for him to speak.
“Well, I really have two things to ask.”
You stayed silent, watching as he fidgeted under your gaze before he cleared his throat to continue. “I’ll be adding a position to my cabinet, and while I respect your father, I would rather your opinion.”
“What do you mean?” You asked.
“I will be adding the position of human liaison, and the position is yours, if you take it.”
You felt immediate guilt. Yuta had the full belief you were still a full human, offering a position to the reason he was forced into being king. You couldn’t bear to hide the truth from him any longer- he deserved to know why his sibling died.
“Yuta… I should tell you something.”
At this, he tilted his head, prompting you to continue. Nervously, you explained the truth about your parentage, how you were sent to the surface thanks to the death of hundreds of mythics. Yuta listened intently as you explained how you learned the truth two years back. You were glad you had a good grasp on your powers now, if not the nerves may have caused you to burst into flames.
It was quiet as you finished and this information settled on the Yuta.
“So, you didn’t have a choice in how you got to earth, and your father tried to force you into a position of power you didn’t want?” Yuta asked, a surprising smirk appearing on his face. This was not the reaction you expected him to have considering you just told him you were the reason his sibling died.
“I… guess that’s one way of putting it.”
Yuta laughed, “it’s okay. Thank you for telling me, but, does this mean you won’t be the human liaison?”
You blinked quickly, stunned at how he moved on so quickly and still asked you to have such an important position. “I… I mean… yeah I would love the job,” you paused, “what was the second question?”
*****
Hell was rough.
Jaemin’s daily routine consisted of getting his soul yanked out for a few hours on end by Satan so his gifts could be utilized. He would have done it for all eternity if it meant you weren’t there- but he was glad to be back on earth with you.
Two years with you were a gift. You were the better of the pair- a fact you would always try to counter, but nothing would ever change Jaemin’s mind. You were always helping him break out of his shell, and you had a charisma he was always in awe of. You made him feel like he mattered, and somehow always knew the right thing to say to him. So, when his future began to line up with Yuta asking Jaemin to be the leader of the mythics until a democratically elected official could be selected, the only reason he felt remotely confident was because of you.
The coronation would be in a large balcony that overlooked the main ballroom. The founding families had started out of the curtains first, a silence now emanating from the ballroom upon the sight of them. You were nervous, your hands shaking. Jaemin took your free hand, the other occupied by the copy of Frankenstein Yuta had handed to you. There was a nearly blinding light pointed to the large balcony as you and Jaemin’s parents stepped out. You had to use what little strength you had to not flinch and just stare straight ahead. Moving through the carpeted path through the oligarchy families, you found yourselves in small rows, yourself now next to Ten.
Jaemin knew Yuta planned to ask you to be a part of his council, but was surprised that Yuta actually asked you to be the one to hold the book he was to swear in on. The job typically went to family, or other high ranking officials, but Jaemin understood that Yuta’s intention with this question served multiple purposes.
One, was likely to announce the addition of the new council position. The second reason, though, Jaemin felt unsure of.
Silent seconds passed but it felt like an eternity as the rest of the oligarchy families moved through the center and into their rows, before a small orchestra began to play from below. Everyone turned towards the curtains as they rose, showing the soon to be former Queen. She looked stunning from every angle. A golden halo sat on her head that matched her golden faerie wings perfectly. Gracefully, she slowly walked down the center path, and as she did, everyone in the oligarchy began to bow, and you both followed suit.
Jaemin was so proud of you. The coronation was just as dull as he expected- the Queen making a speech that almost made him fall asleep, but as you slipped through the oligarchies to hold Yuta’s book, he felt himself light up. You were ethereal. Next to a fairy and a vampire, you were the most enchanting. The moment came and went, and once you returned to your spot, Jaemin squeezed your hand tightly to reassure you.
Yuta spoke much less than Taeyong’s mother, mainly outlining some plans and thanking everyone for guiding him on his journey to preparing for this role. Before you both knew it, the Oligarchy exited, and the festivities began.
You and Jaemin were dancing near the center of the dance floor, when you leaned in, “why do you think his crown is a crown of thorns?”
The crown that sits on the King or Queen of the oligarchy changes its form to whoever head it sits upon. Going from a golden halo on the Queen, to suddenly become an iron crown of thorns on the vampire King, was jarring to say the least.
“Hm, sounds like a new mystery for you to solve,” Jaemin teased.
“No, more like for us to solve,” you smirked, earning a laugh from Jaemin. Us.
“I love you, blue.”
“And I love you, Jae.”

hi. heres a danse/me drabble!! slightly nsfw, but nothing actually happens. i am insane, enjoy <3
Danse felt restless. He couldn’t seem to keep his thoughts from racing as his partner sat next to him on the couch. They snuggled in against him, their hands stroking lovingly at the coarse hair on his muscled forearm. The touch made Danse’s spine tingle. He glanced down at them at the sound of their voice, beginning to ramble about whatever was on their mind.
He tried to listen, to absorb their words and take in the information that their lovely voice was trying to convey to him. He really did try, but it was so hard when they were looking up at him through those long eyelashes. Their hazel eyes squinted as they laughed at something, drawing Danse’s attention to their lips. They looked soft and pink and when they laughed he could see their teeth. Danse found it so cute how their two front teeth were a little bigger than the others, like a little bunny. His bunny…
Sweat began to form at his temples as he continued to stare, no longer able to focus on anything but their face as they leaned in against his bicep. Their cheek felt warm against his skin. He was still watching their lips as they spoke, his mind suddenly flooded with dirty thoughts. How would they look underneath him? Would their eyes be half lidded and hazy, their mouth parted slightly as they breathed hard against him? How would their voice sound, moaning his name? How would those lips look, wrapped around his…
Danse shuddered, finally forcing himself to look away and instead stare at the carpet underneath their feet. His face burned with the intensity of a thousand suns, his fingers gripping anxiously at the fabric of his pants as his body tensed. He shouldn’t be thinking these things, not now, not when his partner was so very excited about something and just trying to talk to him. He yearned for them for so long, that now every moment he couldn’t touch them the way he wanted felt like torture. He wondered if he was wrong, for thinking that. Of course, he would never rush them, rush their relationship, but he had needs, dammit…
“Danse?” their voice spoke up, finally managing to cut through the fog of his thoughts. They were looking directly up at him now, no longer laughing and their brows raised slightly in concern. “Were you listening to me?”
“Yes,” Danse lied, still staring at the carpet.
“What’s wrong?” they innocently laid a hand atop his thigh. Danse felt it through his entire body.
“Nothing. I…” he finally glanced back at them. They were frowning slightly, obviously annoyed that they weren’t being listened to. “I apologize. You…You’re very beautiful. It seems to have distracted me.”
He hoped they weren’t mad at him, or that they could forgive him. He would never ignore them on purpose, he wouldn’t even dream of doing so, but he had been pent up for so long that he didn’t seem to be able to control himself around them. He adjusted himself slightly, hoping and praying that they didn’t catch sight of his growing arousal.
Judging from how they nuzzled into his arm and laughed quietly, he assumed his words smoothed things over for now. They sounded so wonderful when they laughed, Danse could listen to them all day and never grow tired of it.
“You’re silly…” their hand on his thigh stroked gently, absentmindedly. Danse felt like he would explode. “I’m not that pretty, but thanks baby…”
“Yes, you are…” Danse couldn’t stop himself from moving, suddenly cupping their round face in his hand, “You are the most beautiful person I have ever met.”
They didn’t have time to react as Danse leaned forward, pressing his lips to theirs in a desperate embrace. They sighed against him, welcoming his touch and moving their lips against his own. His stubble was scratchy against their skin, but they never seemed to mind. Their hand brushed against the back of his neck, fingers curling into the black mass of his hair. Danse shivered, a low noise escaping him and almost sounding like a growl underneath his breath. His partner whimpered, and it took every ounce of self control he had left not to take them right then and there.
Danse couldn’t keep himself from licking his way into their mouth. He was getting carried away, he knew that, but when they parted their lips so easily and let him in, how was he supposed to stop? How could he stop, when they were whimpering so softly and so sweetly against him? How could he stop, when it was so easy to ease them onto their back and tower over them, their bodies pressed up so close together now?
Somehow, Danse finally pulled away. Though it had more to do with needing to breathe than wanting to stop. He never wanted to stop, for as long as he lived. He wanted to drink them in for eternity if he could.
“I’m sorry,” Danse croaked out, his wide eyes dancing along their features as he took in the sight below him. His partner was so goddamn beautiful like this, even more gorgeous than all of his fantasies that he had been dreaming of for so long. He selfishly drank it in. “I shouldn’t…I didn’t mean to…assume.”
They thought Danse looked wonderful this way, looming over them. The tan skin of his face was tinted a dark red all the way up to his ears. His beautiful, soft brown eyes seemed nervous and hungry and pleading all at the same time as he stared down at them. He was sweating slightly, a few strands of his dark hair sticking to his forehead. They brushed his face free of the strands before caressing his cheek with their thumb, their fingers cupping his jaw.
“Don’t be sorry,” they smiled at him so sweetly, their voice hazy and low and going straight to Danse’s cock. “I liked it.”
Their free hand was suddenly on one of his arms, trailing down to his wrist and grabbing it, guiding his hand to their mouth. Danse stuttered and made a noise he had never made before as he watched them, speechless, as they opened their mouth and flattened their tongue against his thumb. It felt warm, hot against his calloused skin. Their eyes were intense, never breaking contact as they moved onto his pointer and middle fingers, slipping them into their insatiable mouth and moaning softly around the thick digits. Danse’s lips were parted slightly as he took in the sight, finding that breathing had become incredibly difficult.
“Kasper,” Danse choked out, his voice sounding very small, “I want to do sinful things to you…”
They smiled around his fingers, taking one last lick before relinquishing Danse’s hand back to him. He didn’t even mind the wetness, the only thoughts in his mind being of his partner beneath him. The hand cupping his jaw was back to coiling into the back of his hair, tightening and moving his head to the side so that they could kiss at his ear. He whimpered pathetically, and they could feel how hard he was as they whispered.
“So do them.”

Hi everyone! I’d like to share my Captainswan fanfic with you all!
Warning: mega super angst as many of my readers have told me, but there is comfort at the end I SWEAR
Trigger warnings include: implications of and attempted suicide, depression, (there is a final warning, but it is foreshadowed early on and if it’s not your cup of tea, feel free to stop reading ❤️)
Other tags: angst, time travel, domestic Captainswan, Killian is a whump circus, hurt no comfort, but there is eventual reconciliation
Summary:
Emma and Hook’s adventure into the past took a different turn than either of them could’ve predicted, and a small overnight trip turned into two and a half years of bliss.
But now they’re back.
And things have changed.
And he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to survive it.
On Ao3
Chapter 1:
It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
It was… well it was never supposed to be like this.
Their relationship wasn’t supposed to be summed up in fleeting glances and the occasional brush of hands when they didn’t know the other was there. Their relationship wasn’t supposed to be something that made his hand twitch every time he thought about it, reaching for something he was too far away from.
Their relationship wasn’t supposed to disappear.
They promised each other that their relationship wouldn’t disappear.
But he guesses it was some cruel trick of the universe that happy endings would always be ripped from them suddenly. And quickly, and harshly.
And cruelly.
They were self-destructive, would always be self-destructive. And there were times when that option of a sweet release felt like it would be leagues better than the cold, heavy chains pulling him further into the water that stubbornly wouldn’t let him drown, no matter how deep he got.
That sweet release would spare him from the endless torment that swirled and pulsed every time he met her eyes over a hoard of people only for her to avert her eyes to something that must’ve been more interesting than him. Something less painful, if he was even painful for her. Truth be told, he didn’t know.
He wanted to believe that he left an impression on her. A sick, twisted part of him hoped that it hurt her, that is was agonizing for her as much as it was him, but the smile that seemed too convincing to be a mask deterred that thought as quickly as a wave pulling back from the shore.
Hate for her festered like a sore every time he saw that smile; every time she looked somewhat happy when he was left stranded on a desolate plain with nothing and nobody except the mere memory of that smile directed at him. And yet he couldn’t bring himself to embrace that hate. He couldn’t bring himself to pull her outside from the safe confines of her family and shout and plead and beg and yell just to get her to look at him longer than a fraction of a second in order to force her to understand the torture that he felt. The torture she didn’t seem to feel.
His hands tightened around the grip of the weapon, thumb absent-mindedly rotating the cylinder, the clicking that accompanies it a constant sound in his brain. Almost calming.
The chair was hard beneath him, the ship rocking with the light waves and the sun was streaming in and dappling his profile like it used to do to hers. It was a lovely day, a beautiful day in fact, and he couldn’t help but think how nice it would be to die on a day like today, a day that reminded him so much of the others.
He gave the cylinder one last flick, letting it spin for a second or two before stopping it and clicking it back into place.
The wooden arm under his elbow was slightly softer than he remembered it being, a bit more comfortable. Maybe it’s because over time he had dug a small divot, maybe it’s because he’s been in this position too many times before.
He rested it against his temple. These weapons were certainly convenient, perhaps a bit loud for his taste, but they did have a certain class, much more so than a water-bloated body with the bites of small fish. The volume might help in his favor. Maybe she would finally hear him, though right now she wasn’t keen on listening.
When he swallowed it was thick, maybe with nerves, he didn’t know, maybe with peace. Whatever it was, he hoped it would be his last.
He shut his eyes softly, images of her playing behind his eyes, images of them. He could hear their laughs, could see their smiles, for once directed at him, and he smiled back with his eyes burning under the lids.
Warm air with the smell of the sea filled his lungs, the metal a cold bite against his temple, the trigger light under his finger.
His body was calm, his mind was clear, his heart was broken, and the weapon was obedient.
Click.
Until it wasn’t.
He growled in frustration, throwing the gun across the room with a bang softer than the previous it and cursed the Gods for his rotten luck. If he knew that his mantra of being a survivor would continuously throw itself back at him, he would’ve bragged about being a dead man.
One day his stupid gamble would play out in his favor, but the world just seems to have a funny sense of humor; pulling death away at the one time he truly wanted it. The time he needed it despite whatever torment would wait for him in the house of Hades. It would feel better than this.
With a frustrated growl he knocked the bottom or liquor off his desk, dropping his face into his hand at the glass shattered just like his soul, rum trickling into the floorboards that should’ve been stained with his blood.
He would try again. Maybe in a week. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe in the next hour. Whenever the next time he felt the crushing weight of his demons on his shoulders like the sky Atlas was forced to hold for eternity.
Maybe in the next minute.
Maybe in the next second.

was thinking dumb meme thoughts, and somehow that led to me writing an entire post about how my variously scarred characters would react to someone kissing their scars? Okay.
under the cut because this ended up being a weird mix of horny stuff and discussions of trauma
The Marquis de Carabas: Most of the Marquis's scars come from that one time he was tortured to death. If anyone tries to pay special attention to them, he will extricate himself from the situation with the grace of a cat evading a toddler's embrace. There have, in the fullness of his life, been one or two people who were exceptions to this. He will never reveal their names, but it's safe to assume that you're not one of them.
Jim: doesn't really have any strong feelings associated with her scars, which hail from mundane, non-life-threatening physical accidents. As such, she wouldn't really have super strong feelings about anyone kissing them. It would seem cute and soft to her, and would probably get her in a gooey romantic mood, but it's definitely not the only (or even most impactful) way to get Jim in a gooey romantic mood.
Bête: If you have no power over Bête and you attempt to kiss xir scars - or even to touch xir scars, or even to push back Bête's clothing to expose xir scars - you're getting backhanded. If you do have power over Bête... I mean, I don't really want to use this space to dwell on Bête's experiences when people with power over xem cross xir boundaries. But a note to those who believe they can treat Bête however they please with no repercussions: sure, quite possibly. But it would be best to spend the rest of your life being very, very careful that those repercussions never get a chance to find you.
Pliers: If you've gotten close enough to Pliers Mahoney to consider kissing her scars, it's because she wants you to. She's proud of her battle scars; a partner taking the time to linger on them would be a fun part of body worship for Pliers. It feels like a recognition of her strength and prowess in a similar way to boot worship (which, yes, she's also into) but with the more conventional intimacy of skin-on-skin.
Lip, mainverse: Well, in all honesty, it's hard to find a spot to kiss on mainverse!Lip's body that isn't marked by a scar, so for this paragraph, "kissing Lip's scars" will be understood as a kiss that pays obvious attention to the contours and texture of scarring, not just a kiss that happens to take place over a scar or two. Anyways, if someone's approaching Lip's scars with that kind of deliberate focus, Lip is going to assume it's a sex thing for that person. Which is completely fine by them! Well, kind of. Lip does deliberately lean into the sexualization and fetishization of their scars, but like a lot of other things Lip leans into, it's not necessarily wholly healthy for them. They may enjoy scar worship in the moment, but after it's done, it would be really good for Lip to get aftercare focusing on them having worth outside of the availability of their body and blood. But Lip is bad at recognizing their own emotional needs, and has accepted the post-sex mood crash as a normal part of their experience, so unfortunately, I don't think they'd be able to actually ask for that specific aftercare.
Lip, VtM verse: VtM!Lip only has one set of scars- the set from the initial attack. So they feel very differently about those scars than the self-chosen smokescreen of their mainverse scars. But people do still sexualize and fetishize those scars, and Lip... I don't know if it would be right to say they lean into it, because I don't think they feel like they have a ton of choice in it? But they are very much aware that those scars are kind of their trademark, and they work with what they've got. So they don't reject attention to the scars. But anyone kissing those scars is likely to make Lip dissociate. (Which is partly due to the initial trauma of the attack, and partly due to an early partner of theirs who noticed they had strong reactions to the scars being touched and basically used those reactions as a way to control Lip.) The severity of the dissociation varies, as does what it looks like from the outside. Occasionally, Lip will present with the classic thousand yard stare, but it's much more likely that they'll continue to be vague and bubbly and flirtatious, just... without anything behind the eyes. People who know Lip and/or care enough to pay attention to their responses will almost definitely notice that Lip isn't all there, but people who are unfamiliar and/or distracted by their own desires tend to take the facade at face value. The fact that Lip's instinct is to feign okayness and even arousal in situations where they feel unsafe has meant that sometimes, they stay in those unsafe situations longer than they need to. But at other times, it's kept those situations from escalating into something worse.

Whumptober 2022- Linked Keys edition
Day 6- Proof of life/Screams from across the hall
Shadow was beyond tired of this. He thought after Vaati and Ganon, he was never going to serve another evil being again. He was going to embrace the life of a hero that Zelda had shown him the path to. He was going to prove that he was worthy of being called Prism's family. Or so he thought. Because all of a sudden he'd found himself in this underground prison with a sorcerer who reeked of evil power trying day after day to convince the dark hero to fight for him. Shadow never fell for it, but he couldn't leave either. As if that would somehow change his mind, Shadow had been locked up in a cell (and from the sound of it, his was the only one occupied).
His locket had been taken away, and the sorcerer was threatening to break the Dark Mirror shard inside the locket should Shadow misbehave— an act that would mean certain death for Shadow. So even if he did manage to escape somehow, he wouldn't be gone long. He'd quickly realized the sorcerer had ways of seeing everything that was happening in his realm. He'd know if Shadow got out, and Shadow wasn't going to carelessly throw away Vio's hard work and sacrifice. He had to get the locket back… and find the exit.
He'd figured out that, with a bit of effort, he could melt his body into the shadows and slip out of the cell, where he was free to explore the interior of the prison. He'd learned the guards' patrol routes and was able to avoid them. Shadow was right in thinking the prison seemed to be empty. A few other cells had what appeared to be skeletons inside, but not many. Must be where he keeps only the worst troublemakers, Shadow thought. It certainly would explain the high level of security. It must be deep underground or inside a volcano, because there was magma underneath the grated floor. Luckily, Shadow didn't see too many ways to accidentally fall through, so he wasn't too worried. The whole time that Shadow was exploring, day after day, he was trying to think of an escape plan.
One day, though, Shadow encountered a second prisoner. As he was wandering around, hiding to avoid the guards, a loud, piercing scream of agony cut through the usual silence of the prison, echoing off the walls. Shadow froze in his tracks. He had not expected to hear someone else's voice. He carefully peeked around the corner, trying to see if he could figure out where it came from. He could hear voices coming from about three cells away from where Shadow stood, in what sounded like an argument. He couldn't hear what was being said but he knew from their tone that the sorcerer was angry, and the other— the one who screamed— wasn't doing what the sorcerer had asked.
For about five more minutes, Shadow listened in, still unable to believe there was another person in here. No matter how much the sorcerer (presumably) threatened them, the other prisoner seemed to be fighting back. Part of Shadow was thinking that if he could gain this person's trust, maybe they could escape together. Of course that all depended on if they survived that long. The screaming was still going. The sorcerer must be really mad… Shadow wasn't even in the room and he knew that whatever was going on inside was actual torture.
When the sorcerer finally walked out, Shadow quickly melted into the wall so he wouldn't be seen. Once he had passed, Shadow finally emerged and made his way to the cell that the sorcerer had just exited. Peering through the barred door into the small stone enclosure, his breath caught as he realized the person inside was just a kid, probably even younger than Shadow was. Chained to the wall by his wrists, the other prisoner hung limply in his restraints. Blood stained his golden brown hair and dripped from his face. Bruises and scrapes covered most of his body, and there was a large, very fresh burn in the shape of a handprint on his bare chest. He wasn't even moving. From where Shadow stood, he couldn't even tell if he was breathing. Shadow didn't even know this person, but he felt the need to slip into the kid's cell and check on him.
"Hey… Can you hear me?" Shadow asked, tapping the kid's bruised cheek lightly. No response. He reached up to the side of the kid's neck, feeling for a pulse. It was faint, but it was there. He wasn't dead at least…
"Hey, wake up!" Shadow smacked him a bit harder. A quiet groan told him that the other kid was coming around. He lifted his head weakly, revealing a bleeding cut on his forehead, bruises on both cheeks, and some pretty gross swelling on an already scarred (probably missing) eye. There was a second burn forming a red ring around his neck.
"Wh… Who are you…?" He asked, voice cracking and raspy as he struggled to get the words out. His one good eye squinted to focus on Shadow better,
"Four…? Did you… Dye your hair?"

My sweetest boy,
I am overjoyed you are able to remain home now. I wrote to Papa about how you may be taking the healing of your scar worries me so. As selfish as it sounds, I am content with your loneliness as it shows you have kept your promise of loving no one else while I be departed. Though, no need to fret my love. I’ve not wished for a company as sweet as yours so passionately before. I’m certain I never will again. I struggle to feel your love across the depths of this damned ocean, so your letters provide much assurance and comfort. I do hope you don’t withdraw from the ever needed consolation.
I have not heard of Père’s grandson returning? Aye, I do remember Frances. The pretty lass who takes well after her father. I hope she does well as well as her son. I congratulate you on your winnings and I hope it were nothing if but a friendly match. You know you worry me so with all the roughhousing you seem to get into. Though there be only one place I do hope you play so roughly…
As for Papa, I hope you will do well by me to give him pleas to rest once in a while. I worry he would stress himself into a stupor. Though I have already written back to him, I must also write to Père and little Lewis as I promised…
Anastasia does swell and I believe has adjusted well to France. It makes it much easier knowing she speaks their native tongue. You should see the way she eats ice cream. It would surely baffle and swoon you simultaneously.
And though I don’t mean to cause you any alarm, but interestingly enough, there be a strange man watching us both from afar. He has not approached or attempted to make conversation, but he does appear at every shop and public area. I am keeping a sharp eye on him and I’m sure to notify the police should he seem, clearly, up to no good. Otherwise, we both be safe and very happy however with holes left in our hearts by our missing Pippip and extended family.
My protège does me more than proud and I know he will become a very successful part of this gallery. He has introduced me to his twin sister, and while a rather frisky woman she is very big in personality and heart.
I fear I may have rambled on, so I should end this letter by saying words on paper could not explain how dearly I love you. Two to three weeks be a very lengthy time and I wish for you to keep a part of me with you at all times if possible… enclosed within this letter is a braided lock of my hair. I do hope you keep it close to you and find it within your heart to do the same for me as nothing I’ve brought reminds me of you or your beauty. If you so choose, of course…
All my love,
Elias
My dearest Elias,
Don't torture me so, my beloved boy, there be better ways - less heart-throbbing ways - for me to ensure the promise of the loyalty to my heart to but only you. Never stop writing, amour, your letters are the most warmest embrace I shall scavenge to feel since your travel. Else you will but supply me a good reason for châtiment to vilain tu... Dois-je vous laisser avec l'excitation mais des océans à gérer par vous-même en écrivant ceci.
Chiding aside; Francis, is his name, quite like his mother. I find him to be joyous company, and entertain-able. Of course, the wrestle was but to prove that I am not a child as he had originally perceived. Wipe away your sweat, cher, for no injuries were acquired. Though I am pleased to hear you have acquired your own friend since travel, just as how I have.
I admit I am worried of this strange man, you speak of... I know your admirable pacifist heart well, sweetheart, but remember to protect yourself also.
Now, mon amour, you have blessed me greater than I thought possible, more than any divinity being ever could, and I think only you capable of swooning me so. Take in return, my gorgeous boy, a dark braid of my own. Made with the help of Papa, as I am not swell with hair. May you have more of me but that of my heart, darling.
—Yrs forever, Philip Hamilton-Laurens

How Did you come up with the first eve in the story about adams wives? I haven’t been able to find anything about her after I read it and I want to know if she’s an actual biblical character or just someone you made
She's from the Midrash. I learned about her as a 12 year old, from my barmitzvah teacher. There was a point in there, long after I'd put her into Sandman, where I was starting to think I'd imagined her, when I ran across her in Robert Graves's Hebrew Myths....
Excerpt from: The Hebrew Myths by Robert Graves and Raphael Patai (New York:  Doubleday, 1964), pp 65-69
Chapter 10: Adam's Helpmeets
(a) Having decided to give Adam a helpmeet lest he should be alone of his kind, God put him into a deep sleep, removed one of his ribs, formed it into a woman, and closed up the wound, Adam awoke and said: 'This being shall be named "Woman", because she has been taken out of man. A man and a woman shall be one flesh.' The title he gave her was Eve, 'the Mother of All Living''. [1]
(b) Some say that God created man and woman in His own image on the Sixth Day, giving them charge over the world; [2]  but that Eve did not yet exist. Now, God had set Adam to name every beast, bird and other living thing. When they passed before him in pairs, male and female, Adam-being already like a twenty-year-old man-felt jealous of their loves, and though he tried coupling with each female in turn, found no satisfaction in the act. He therefore cried: 'Every creature but I has a proper mate', and prayed God would remedy this injustice. [3]
(c) God then formed Lilith, the first woman, just as He had formed Adam, except that He used filth and sediment instead of pure dust. From Adam's union with this demoness, and with another like her named Naamah, Tubal Cain's sister, sprang Asmodeus and innumerable demons that still plague mankind. Many generations later, Lilith and Naamah came to Solomon's judgement seat, disguised as harlots of Jerusalem'. [4]
(d) Adam and Lilith never found peace together; for when he wished to lie with her, she took offence at the recumbent posture he demanded. 'Why must I lie beneath you?' she asked. 'I also was made from dust, and am therefore your equal.' Because Adam tried to compel her obedience by force, Lilith, in a rage, uttered the magic name of God, rose into the air and left him.
Adam complained to God: 'I have been deserted by my helpmeet' God at once sent the angels Senoy, Sansenoy and Semangelof to fetch Lilith back. They found her beside the Red Sea, a region abounding in lascivious demons, to whom she bore lilim at the rate of more than one hundred a day. 'Return to Adam without delay,' the angels said, `or we will drown you!' Lilith asked: `How can I return to Adam and live like an honest housewife, after my stay beside the Red Sea?? 'It will be death to refuse!' they answered. `How can I die,' Lilith asked again, `when God has ordered me to take charge of all newborn children: boys up to the eighth day of life, that of circumcision; girls up to the twentieth day. None the less, if ever I see your three names or likenesses displayed in an amulet above a newborn child, I promise to spare it.' To this they agreed; but God punished Lilith by making one hundred of her demon children perish daily; [5] and if she could not destroy a human infant, because of the angelic amulet, she would spitefully turn against her own. [6]
(e) Some say that Lilith ruled as queen in Zmargad, and again in Sheba; and was the demoness who destroyed job's sons. [7] Yet she escaped the curse of death which overtook Adam, since they had parted long before the Fall. Lilith and Naamah not only strangle infants but also seduce dreaming men, any one of whom, sleeping alone, may become their victim. [8]
(f) Undismayed by His failure to give Adam a suitable helpmeet, God tried again, and let him watch while he built up a woman's anatomy: using bones, tissues, muscles, blood and glandular secretions, then covering the whole with skin and adding tufts of hair in places. The sight caused Adam such disgust that even when this woman, the First Eve, stood there in her full beauty, he felt an invincible repugnance. God knew that He had failed once more, and took the First Eve away. Where she went, nobody knows for certain. [9]
(g) God tried a third time, and acted more circumspectly. Having taken a rib from Adam's side in his sleep, He formed it into a woman; then plaited her hair and adorned her, like a bride, with twenty-four pieces of jewellery, before waking him. Adam was entranced. [10]
(h) Some say that God created Eve not from Adam's rib, but from a tail ending in a sting which had been part of his body. God cut this off, and the stump-now a useless coccyx-is still carried by Adam's descendants. [11]
(i) Others say that God's original thought had been to create two human beings, male and female; but instead He designed a single one with a male face looking forward, and a female face looking back. Again He changed His mind, removed Adam's backward-looking face, and built a woman's body for it. [12]
(j) Still others hold that Adam was originally created as an androgyne of male and female bodies joined back to back. Since this posture made locomotion difficult, and conversation awkward, God divided the androgyne and gave each half a new rear. These separate beings He placed in Eden, forbidding them to couple. [13]

Authors’ Comments on the Myth:
1. The tradition that man's first sexual intercourse was with animals, not women, may be due to the widely spread practice of bestiality among herdsmen of the Middle East, which is still condoned by custom, although figuring three times in the Pentateuch as a capital crime. In the Akkadian Gilgamesh Epic, Enkidu is said to have lived with gazelles and jostled other wild beasts at the watering place, until civilized by Aruru's priestess. Having enjoyed her embraces for six days and seven nights, he wished to rejoin the wild beasts but, to his surprise, they fled from him. Enkidu then knew that he had gained understanding, and the priestess said: 'Thou art wise, Enkidu, like unto a godl'
2. Primeval man was held by the Babylonians to have been androgynous. Thus the Gilgamesh Epic gives Enkidu androgynous features: `the hair of his head like a woman's, with locks that sprout like those of Nisaba, the Grain-goddess.' The Hebrew tradition evidently derives from Greek sources, because both terms used in a Tannaitic midrash to describe the bisexual Adam are Greek: androgynos, 'man-woman', and diprosopon, 'twofaced'. Philo of Alexandria, the Hellenistic philosopher and commentator on the Bible, contemporary with Jesus, held that man was at first bisexual; so did the Gnostics. This belief is clearly borrowed from Plato. Yet the myth of two bodies placed back to back may well have been founded on observation of Siamese twins, which are sometimes joined in this awkward manner. The two-faced Adam appears to be a fancy derived from coins or statues of Janus, the Roman New Year god.
3. Divergences between the Creation myths of Genesis r and n, which allow Lilith to be presumed as Adam's first mate, result from a careless weaving together of an early Judaean and a late priestly tradition. The older version contains the rib incident. Lilith typifies the Anath-worshipping Canaanite women, who were permitted pre-nuptial promiscuity. Time after time the prophets denounced Israelite women for following Canaanite practices; at first, apparently, with the priests' approval-since their habit of dedicating to God the fees thus earned is expressly forbidden in Deuteronomy xxIII. I8. Lilith's flight to the Red Sea recalls the ancient Hebrew view that water attracts demons. 'Tortured and rebellious demons' also found safe harbourage in Egypt. Thus Asmodeus, who had strangled Sarah's first six husbands, fled 'to the uttermost parts of Egypt' (Tobit viii. 3), when Tobias burned the heart and liver of a fish on their wedding night.
4. Lilith's bargain with the angels has its ritual counterpart in an apotropaic rite once performed in many Jewish communities. To protect the newborn child against Lilith-and especially a male, until he could be permanently safeguarded by circumcision-a ring was drawn with natron, or charcoal, on the wall of the birthroom, and inside it were written the words: 'Adam and Eve. Out, Lilith!' Also the names Senoy, Sansenoy and Semangelof (meanings uncertain) were inscribed on the door. If Lilith nevertheless succeeded in approaching the child and fondling him, he would laugh in his sleep. To avert danger, it was held wise to strike the sleeping child's lips with one finger-whereupon Lilith would vanish.
5. 'Lilith' is usually derived from the Babylonian-Assyrian word lilitu, ,a female demon, or wind-spirit'-one of a triad mentioned in Babylonian spells. But she appears earlier as 'Lillake' on a 2000 B.G. Sumerian tablet from Ur containing the tale of Gilgamesh and the Willow Tree. There she is a demoness dwelling in the trunk of a willow-tree tended by the Goddess Inanna (Anath) on the banks of the Euphrates. Popular Hebrew etymology seems to have derived 'Lilith' from layil, 'night'; and she therefore often appears as a hairy night-monster, as she also does in Arabian folklore. Solomon suspected the Queen of Sheba of being Lilith, because she had hairy legs. His judgement on the two harlots is recorded in I Kings III. 16 ff. According to Isaiah xxxiv. I4-I5, Lilith dwells among the desolate ruins in the Edomite Desert where satyrs (se'ir), reems, pelicans, owls, jackals, ostriches, arrow-snakes and kites keep her company.
6. Lilith's children are called lilim. In the Targum Yerushalmi, the priestly blessing of Numbers vi. 26 becomes: 'The Lord bless thee in all thy doings, and preserve thee from the Lilim!' The fourth-century A.D. commentator Hieronymus identified Lilith with the Greek Lamia, a Libyan queen deserted by Zeus, whom his wife Hera robbed of her children. She took revenge by robbing other women of theirs.
7. The Lamiae, who seduced sleeping men, sucked their blood and ate their flesh, as Lilith and her fellow-demonesses did, were also known as Empusae, 'forcers-in'; or Mormolyceia, 'frightening wolves'; and described as 'Children of Hecate'. A Hellenistic relief shows a naked Lamia straddling a traveller asleep on his back. It is characteristic of civilizations where women are treated as chattels that they must adopt the recumbent posture during intercourse, which Lilith refused. That Greek witches who worshipped Hecate favoured the superior posture, we know from Apuleius; and it occurs in early Sumerian representations of the sexual act, though not in the Hittite. Malinowski writes that Melanesian girls ridicule what they call `the missionary position', which demands that they should lie passive and recumbent.
8. Naamah, 'pleasant', is explained as meaning that 'the demoness sang pleasant songs to idols'. Zmargad suggest smaragdos, the semi-precious aquamarine; and may therefore be her submarine dwelling. A demon named Smaragos occurs in the Homeric Epigrams.
9. Eve's creation by God from Adam's rib-a myth establishing male supremacy and disguising Eve's divinity-lacks parallels in Mediterranean or early Middle-Eastern myth. The story perhaps derives iconotropically from an ancient relief, or painting, which showed the naked Goddess Anath poised in the air, watching her lover Mot murder his twin Aliyan; Mot (mistaken by the mythographer for Yahweh) was driving a curved dagger under Aliyan's fifth rib, not removing a sixth one. The familiar story is helped by a hidden pun on tsela, the Hebrew for 'rib': Eve, though designed to be Adam's helpmeet, proved to be a tsela, a 'stumbling', or 'misfortune'. Eve's formation from Adam's tail is an even more damaging myth; perhaps suggested by the birth of a child with a vestigial tail instead of a coccyx-a not infrequent occurrence.
10. The story of Lilith's escape to the East and of Adam's subsequent marriage to Eve may, however, record an early historical incident: nomad herdsmen, admitted into Lilith's Canaanite queendom as guests (see 16. 1), suddenly seize power and, when the royal household thereupon flees, occupy a second queendom which owes allegiance to the Hittite Goddess Heba.
The meaning of 'Eve' is disputed. Hawwah is explained in Genesis III. 20 as 'mother of all living'; but this may well be a Hebraicized form of the divine name Heba, Hebat, Khebat or Khiba. This goddess, wife of the Hittite Storm-god, is shown riding a lion in a rock-sculpture at Hattusaswhich equates her with Anath-and appears as a form of Ishtar in Hurrian texts. She was worshipped at Jerusalem (see 27. 6). Her Greek name was Hebe, Heracles's goddess-wife.

⟡ 𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐃𝐎𝐑𝐈 eyes dared to erase the sight ahead of him, his body was frozen—every sense began to fail for its purpose and nothing else was responsive except for the shout of your name that echoes through the battle field, the level of immensity to his voice that covers his throat with pain as every pace towards you was a step leading to a waste of a second that terrifies him the more his being tugged away by his own fears.
Dropping to his knees, he was numb to the sensation of the ache overwhelming his legs while he craddles you in his arms as every part of him shook with uncertainty, his hands didn't have the courage to hold you with as much as strength as he should've.
"..Y/N?" He whispers, a croak to his voice as if it was barely alive with droplets created from his sorrow began to trail down your cheek whilst your blood paints his hand in a hue he never expected to come from you. His mind was in the midst of being empty to a havoc that wanted to deny every rage in his system so he could love you even if he could tell how your chest wasn't rising the way it was supposed to do.
"Love?" Yuji calls out one more time as your eyes flutter subtly, signalling him not even an assurance for your state. His hand falls to your cheek, not caring if he couldn't hold you weakly because what matters more is that you held onto him. He painfully leans his forehead on yours, a loud sob escaping him with a struggle to catch up with his breath.
"Don't let me go, don't ever leave me, I beg of you, God!" He shouts as the gods grow concerned of the boy whose heart was wrecked to every piece as the sky began to cry with him. "Save them— God— Please! Stop taking everyone that I love and let me come with them." He begs, as he pulls you more as if the distance could've helped him better because even when you were close to him, he knew you were already at the farthest place that he couldn't reach. All that could be heard from him were screams where he forfeited ever begging for your life when everyone around seems to follow in your path.
"I'm so sorry, my love." Itadori confesses, arms tight around your figure as every beat of his heart began to die with you when all the seconds that he seemed to waste without you by his side began to haunt him. If he had gotten there sooner, maybe then he could've reminded you one more time that you were the energy—the surviving light in his life for him to exist without being told of his faith.
"I love you—so much so please remember that even when you're away." He couldn't even explain how his words manage to fall in such a manner, he could've sworn a second ago he only wanted to let time freeze so he could deny the view of your lifeless body that he miserably failed to save from the hands of death.
"I promise you, in the end, I'll be with you soon, Y/N." Itadori places a delicate kiss to your forehead, having no courage to leave the contact of your skin to his as his eyes went with the rain that poured over the two of you. He intertwines one of his hands with yours, shivering at the temperature he faces but with the other hand, he rests it on his cheek. Maybe if you looked at him now, you'd want him to smile because if you were the source of his reason to exist, Yuji's smile was the one to let your hearts worries disappear but sadly, the source has been removed from him and nothing else in the world could ever bring the joy in his smile no more.
"All I've ever wanted to do was to love you, so I hope you're willing to wait because when I see you.. I'm gonna embrace you with everything I've got," He then kisses the hand intertwined to his before he achingly pull his hand away and the regret closing on him but he had no other choice.
"And love you again and again, Y/N. Always and.. forever—like what we promised." Yuji, as torturous it was to let you go, he sets your hand that was on his cheek to your chest just like he did with the other before he ends his goodbye with a lasting kiss to your cheek.
"Stop crying, Yuji! C'mon smile for me, will you? I didn't come here to see you all gloomy."
And with the remaining memories left for him, it began to be the weak strings for his heart to compose itself because if he knows one thing that you hated, it was the sight of him crying.
So he smiles, the everlasting wish of yours being granted even if his body was corrupting as the love of his life enters a new realm where forever was possible for the both of you.
"We'll meet again, my love."
As he stood up, he hesitates to turn his back on you but once he does, the sun never looked the same to him ever again.
Tumblr media
⟡ 𝐌𝐄𝐆𝐔𝐌𝐈 encounters a feeling that he's been through before—a course of emotions that has his body in a tight hold but now, it seems the hold on him was deadlier than the first time. Your name had left his lips, draining him of his exhaustion to run to you before you could fall, every fiber in his body was holding on to his fear. He didn't need to feel the ache in his legs that were covered in wounds because his mission was for you to perfectly land in his arms even if he had to risk getting more injuries.
His heart began to pace in frantic pace when he catches you, there wasn't a split second of joy that entered him just because he made it in time. Instead, his eyes widen in trauma at the sight of your dull eyes that looked above to the heavens sky.
"Hey—hey!" He shouts, trembling hands feeling every bit of your skin and ends with it down to your cheek. "Talk to me—anything, please!" Megumi pleads as a drop of your blood that came from your forehead started to flow onto his skin. He gulps with his breathing unable to coordinate with him as his head frenetically looks up, any sign of help could've been the better reach but they were just in the mere corner of a building in Shibuya.
"Y/N? Please say something." He whispers, furiously wiping his tears while he despises the warmth of your blood that paints his hands. "C'mon please, let me hear your voice one last time." He sobs on your shoulder, embracing you with every corrupting piece of his heart, looking for a beat from your rather cold ones. His hands go to your hair, caressing it so lightly that he felt it resembled glass from how careful he was. Your head was buried in his neck, eyes barely awake for him to ever find that heartbeat.
"I love you, did you hear me?" Megumi says, gulping in the grief. "Say it back to me like you always did, please?" He doesn't know that begging would've been his lasting choice—maybe someone up above would take some time to listen to his pleads and eventually bring the life to his lovers body once again for you to say you love him back a thousand times more.
"Hug me one more time, will you? You told me you loved to do that." He desperately wishes your arms could just return to the place he loved, wrapped around his neck as his hands were to be on your waist or to your cheek with a smile to your lips. Unfortunately, your arms were covered in their own bruises—latched with dark purple hues and tints of red from the debris of buildings and cursed spirits.
"We have to go, Megumi!" One of the sorcerers shout, he didn't even have the time to decipher who it belonged to but he sniffles, reaching for his phone typing a quick message to the others to be able to take you out of this place with somewhere more deserving of a beauty that has passed.
"I'm not going to say goodbye because I know you'll always be with me, right Y/N?" He takes your hands, placing it on your chest on top of each other as his tear lands on your temple. He softly wipes it away before he kisses your forehead, closing his eyes shut at his misery.
"I wish I could've saved you. I really wish I did." He sobs, forehead in tact with yours but he seems to receive a sensation to his body at the wind that came his way.
"You've saved me the minute you met me, my love." You wish you could've whispered to him but he took it as the wind was the only embrace he'll ever get now.
"And you saved me too." Panda walks in to this horrid scene as he feels the sympathy rush to him. Megumi looks up at him with the liveliness dying along with you as your lover delicately holds your cheek one last time before kissing you on your temple muttering one more time,
"I love you always."
Standing up was the second hardest thing he had to do because turning his back to you came at first as his knees threatened to fall but alas, he has to do continue on because that's what you would've wanted right?
"I love you, Megumi. I'll be here waiting for you."
And the upcoming battles for him to face were laced with rage and the never ending bitterness that love seemed to haunt him with.
Tumblr media
⟡ 𝐆𝐎𝐉𝐎's phone rang as while he stops to stare at the caller. It was odd for him to receive a phone call from Megumi at this hour but he supposed it was probably for some guidance since they were sent to a mission. Being aware of their location, he didn't hesitate to transport as fast as he could to get there but there's this calling to him how it wasn't bound to be what he expected.
Panting heavily, Megumi ran with life on the line as he carried you in his arms without the ability to pace your breathing the same as his.
"GOJO-SENSEI!" He shouts with every power in his lungs the second Gojo had appeared, who stood stunned at the boy who was approaching him with a familiar figure.
"Y/N?" Satoru says, uncertain of what he just saw but when Megumi reached him, out of his breath as Nobara and Itadori followed behind him. His student places you in your lovers arm as he kneels down with a hand to your chest, alarmed at how your heartbeat was nowhere near notice. Fushiguro could see the worry in the mans eyes as he bites his lip in sympathy before telling the two to spare a moment for the so called strongest sorcerer who was now on his knees for only one person.
"We saw them being followed by a cursed spirit but they led Y/N to a trap." Megumi briefly explains as Gojo could only spare him a nod as your eyes would flutter once a while as the three students let them be.
"I warned you, didn't I?" He says, a low whisper as your hand weakly reach for his blindfold while Gojo's own rhythm of a heartbeat began to ache. Once he felt how you raised it with a cough of blood spoiling his uniform as his expression grow more frantic with every second.
"Hey there, pretty. You mind staying with me for a little longer?" He asked as if your ears were as attentive as it were before when his eyes stared back at your dazed ones. You didn't respond which was troubling him, what more was that your hand immediately dropped to your chest when he finally looked at you. A shakey sigh leaves Gojo while he rose, ready to fly you anywhere as long as you promised to stay.
"A little more please, can you do that for me?" He begs of you but instead, your head fell unconsciously in his arms with the threat of your eyes to close before he could ever look at you again, not too mention the flow of blood that came from your stomach that didn't seem to stop. He hasn't had the confidence to look at your body before because the fear on Megumi's face made him certain of how the damage had been rough on you. Up this close, he can see two massive wounds to your lower body as well as scratches on your forearms with some bruises on your wrist, hinting how their grasp on you was too strong compared to someone who was powerless.
The hue of his eyes appear to be less saturated than before and for the first time in the life of the honored sorcerer, his heart was irreparable and no amount of technique can reverse the way love his love for you had been the fault for your end.
Unknown to his own senses, his tears fall to your cheek as he pulls you closer like an embrace that didn't bring him his usual amount of comfort.
"Satoru, stop messing around!" You said as he spun you around, tight arms around his neck as he flew in the air, not bothering to listen to your protests of putting you down.
"I won't let you go, how could I ever do that to you?" He assures you, with his own arms tied to your waist with a bright smile on his face.
"And if I fall?" You asked him, glancing at the heights below you but Gojo only tucks a piece of hair behind your ear as you looked at him with the sun in your eyes since two lovers were up in the sky to reach for the clouds.
"I'll be there to save you."
But where was he when you fell from the skyscrapers?
"You hate me, I'm sure." He says biting his lip in agony as he buries his head to your chest, silent sobs and unsteady breaths coming from the sorcerer.
"I love you so much." Satoru breathlessly said. The head that was once on your chest began to move away when he heard nothing more than the silence that came from your heart. They were out to get you, how stupid was he to let you out of his sight just for a second? Maybe then he could've danced with you one more time, up in the sky for the two of you to conquer the heights of being in love.
"I'm so sorry, darling." He then kisses the side of your lip as his feet met in contact with the floor as the rest of the Jujutsu tech as Shoko lets out a saddened sigh.
"Wait for me okay? I'm not done loving you yet." He whispers to you one last time while he hands you over to Shoko as Megumi spares him a glance to notice how wretched his mentor looked.
"I have some things to do." Gojo announces, withstanding the grief to plot revenge to the ones who took you away from him as the rest didn't bother to object knowing there was no possible way to stop a man who had lost the love of his life in revenging your death. He disappears in a split second as the rest of the students didn't notice the tears that kept flowing from the person they look up to.
How can he be the strongest when he failed to protect his only weakness?
Until then, Gojo Satoru could only look at the sky to remember you since his infinity that he swore was to be spent with you died in his arms along with his lover.

It was 8 in the evening and you were still in the office. You hadn’t accomplished much work today, your mind mostly focused on Billy. You were surprised by how quickly he’d been able to make the funeral arrangements for his mother. Yesterday you had driven over to the nursing home and by the time you reached there, Carla Russo’s body had already been picked up. You’d signed a few papers for Billy and picked up the remainder of Carla’s things before you returned home. Everything of hers was packed into a small suitcase and sitting in your living room. You wanted to call him, ask him how he was and offer your support, but he seemed determined to do everything on his own when you’d talked to him last and you didn’t want to intrude.
You gave yourself a mental shake, reminding yourself to concentrate. This workday had been a wash. When you weren’t distracted by thoughts of Billy, you were putting out fires in your team. At least the personnel conflicts have been temporarily resolved, but now you needed to work on a slide deck that you’d been tasked with presenting to the executive leadership committee later in the week.
An hour later you were halfway done with your presentation when your phone rang. You glanced down at your screen to find Billy’s name on the screen. “Hi.”
“Hey.” He sounded exhausted. “You still at work?”
“Yeah. How did you know?”
There was a pause. “You give off the workaholic vibe.”
You smiled to yourself; at least he was okay enough to crack jokes. “How are you?”
“You mean am I grieving over a goddamn dead woman who preferred meth to her own fucking son?” He sighed. “No big loss. I’m fine.”
Anger and hurt saturated his voice despite his attempts to sound unaffected. Your heart hurt for him, you wished there was something you could do. “Do you need anything?”
“The funeral service is tomorrow.” A beat of silence followed. “Do you want to come?”
“Sure. What time?”
“2pm.”
“I’ll take the day off. Do you need my help with anything? Maybe I can call some of her friends?”
“When I found her she was living on the streets, barely alive but still hooked on meth. I doubt she’s got any friends.”
“What about the people in the nursing home? Maybe they want to come?”
“No, I don’t want anyone else there. Just you.”
Not liking the warmth that spread through you upon hearing his words, you reminded yourself he was probably feeling unusually vulnerable. This wasn’t typical of him.
“Do you want to come over?” he asked.
You exhaled a heavy sigh. “I would but I have so much work to do. I’ll be here for another hour at least.”
“Come over after you’re done.”
“It’ll be really late.”
“That’s fine. I can wait.”
“I can stop by my place to pick up your mom’s-.”
“No, it’s okay.”
You realized he wasn’t quite ready to go through Carla’s belongings yet.
“Bring your stuff with you.”
“Stuff?”
“Overnight bag, clothes for tomorrow, whatever.”
“Oh. You want me to stay over?”
“Yeah, might as well. We can drive over together for the service tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Despite the conversation coming to a natural end, he wasn’t hanging up. It seemed as if he was reluctant to be alone, probably because that meant dealing with the complicated emotions for his mother. You knew exactly how that felt. “If you want, I can leave now. I can work from your apartment instead of the office.”
“You’re not worried I’ll be tempted to spy on Valiant stuff?” he teased.
You smiled. “As if I’d let you see what I’m working on.”
“Guess no corporate espionage for me tonight.”
“Still going to keep you away from my laptop.”
He chuckled. “Just get here. I promise not to bug you while you work.”
“Okay. I’m leaving now.”
“See you soon.”
After you hung up, you started gathering your things together.
***
An hour later, you were at his place. When he opened the door, you immediately grew concerned at how tired he looked. Traveling back and forth from Vegas plus dealing with the news about Carla’s death within the last few hours meant he was absolutely exhausted.
“Hey,” he greeted you, smiling as he took the overnight bag from your hands.
You removed your heels while he took your bag inside his room and then made your way to his living room. While his penthouse suite was much bigger than yours, you actually didn’t like it very much. Despite the high-end finishes and the beautiful interiors - Billy had obviously hired a designer to make the place look good - it always felt very cool and inhospitable to you. It was too perfect and you always felt out of place inside the suite.
“You hungry?” he asked, coming up behind you. “I ordered dinner for you.” Arms encircling your waist, he dropped a kiss on the back of your head as he maneuvered you to the kitchen. He’d laid out the food for you on the dining table, and from the take-out containers you knew it was from one of your favourite Indian restaurants. The thoughtful gesture surprised you, you weren’t used to that from him. Noting that he’d only set the table for one, you turned around to look at him. “You’re not going to eat with me?”
“I ate already. I was starving. Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry.” You cradled his face with one hand, your eyes roving over his beautiful face as he placed a kiss on the fleshy part of your palm. “You look exhausted. Did you even sleep?”
“No” He leaned back against the kitchen counter, weary. For a moment he closed his eyes, simply holding still, and you found yourself wrapping your arms around him in a hug. You didn’t understand why you’d even initiated the embrace – hugs were never your thing – but seeing him so beaten-down you were desperate to comfort him. He leaned into you, his body flushed against yours, and you held him tight. Stroking the nape of his neck, you placed a soft kiss on the center of his forehead. “Why don’t you take a nap while I work?”
“You don’t mind?”
You smiled up at him, running your fingers through his hair. “At least I don’t have to worry about you stealing my company secrets while you sleep.”
He smirked. “You’ll be here when I wake up?”
“Yup. Probably still working away.”
Billy grazed your temple softly before dropping a tender kiss on the tip of your nose. “Okay, but eat first.”
You nodded your head, watching after him as he sauntered out of the kitchen and disappeared down the hallway.
Sighing, you went to the sink to wash your hands before eating.
***
It was after midnight and you were still working on your slide deck when you heard Billy puttering around in the bathroom. Soon he slowly made his way towards you, dressed in a t-shirt and black boxers, his hair all messy. He yawned lazily, falling onto the other end of the couch.
“I thought you’d sleep through the night,” you remarked.
“Are you still working?” he asked.
“Almost done.” You saved the file and shut off the laptop before slipping it back inside your bag.
Suddenly he pulled you closer and you found yourself tucked underneath him on the couch as he glanced down at you from above. “You work too hard.”
You smiled up at him. “They don’t pay me the big bucks to sit there and look pretty.”
A slow, incandescent smile curved his lips. “I would. If I ran Valiant, you’d be my personal stress relief. You’d be in my office the entire time and do nothing but look pretty and service me.”
“That’s sexual harassment.”
Billy shrugged his shoulders. “Whatever. I’d make it worth your while.”
You laughed, angling up to kiss him. “Your breath is all minty fresh.”
“I brushed my teeth for you.”
“Wow. Be still my heart.”
A warm grin covered his face as he shifted down your body to nuzzle your neck. His weight was heavy as he rested atop you, but you liked the solid feel of him on you, the way you felt all safe and warm. You stroked his hair while he drew lazy circles on your chest, the silence between you two comforting.
“No one knows about her. Not Frank, not Curtis, no one.”
Those names were familiar to you because Billy had mentioned them in passing a few times. Of course he’d never shared any other info, but you being you, you’d dug around and found out more about them. You knew they’d served with Billy and he considered them his closest friends.
“When I found her three years ago, I put her in that home and forgot all about her.”
“You visited her every week,” you reminded him.
“Because I wanted her to regret abandoning me. I wanted her to see how far I’d come, I wanted to throw her mistakes in her face. But I don’t think she regretted safe-havening me, not even a bit.”
The bitter pain in his voice made your heart hurt for him.
“Maybe I should be happy she’s finally dead, or maybe I’m supposed to be sad or something.”
“How do you actually feel?”
“Nothing. I feel nothing.”
“Billy, I think that’s normal. There’s no right or wrong in this. All of your feelings are valid.”
“Even if her dying made me absolutely ecstatic? You wouldn’t think I was a fucking psychopath?”
“You are a psychopath but not because you have conflicting emotions about your terrible mother dying. You have the right to feel how you feel about her, whatever that might be.”
Eyes blazing with emotion, he hovered about you to meet your gaze. “Then what makes me a psychopath?”
You quirked your eyebrow. “The fact you want to torture my dates.”
“Not just torture, I want to kill them.” Eyes darkened, voice velvety-smooth, he covered your mouth with his and ravaged you with a kiss that left you thrumming and breathless.
“Only you’re allowed to touch me?” you asked through labored breaths.
“Yes.” His voice was a lustful rasp, his mouth leaving a heated trail as he sucked on the oh-so-sensitive corner of where your neck and shoulder intersected. Sparks of electricity ran down your spine. “Only me.”
You took his hand and guided it down your body, parting your thighs for him.
Like always, you were soon completely lost in the erotic pleasure of his mouth on you. Your legs hooked over his shoulders, your hands grabbed the back of the couch for support as he fucked you with his hands and mouth, sucking you, licking you, his tongue flicking over your clit until you were keening under him. Body arching off the couch, you moaned his name louder and louder until he drove you completely over the edge.
Then you felt a light slap on your cunt which immediately brought you back to reality. Opening your eyes, you found Billy perched between your legs, gracing you with the most wicked smile. “That’s one.” He slapped your pussy again, this time his long, lean fingers ever so slightly grazing your clit and your hips bucked, wanting more. “As promised.” His eyebrow quirked up. “Punishment.”
“Not fair,” you protested. “I’ll date who I want.”
He slapped you again, a little harder this time, but then he leaned down to place comforting kisses on the very spots he assaulted and you moaned with pleasure.
“All of you.” His tongue lapped over your clit, eyes locked with yours. “Belongs to me. I own you.”
“You don’t!” You squealed when he flipped you over unexpectedly, grabbing you by the hips so your ass was lifted of the couch. And then he squeezed your butt cheeks, biting them lightly before he started rimming you.
***
After sharing a shower the two of you were laying in his bed, your back pressed against his chest as you both stared up at the ceiling. His one hand was intertwined with yours, the other arm circled around your hips. The two of you didn’t have sex but you didn’t mind. You were both fatigued.
“I smell like you now,” you murmured, realizing the soap in his shower had left its scent on you.
“I know. I like it.” He squeezed your fingers. “I have a present for you.”
“I hope it’s not earrings again.”
He chuckled. “No, not earrings.”
“What is it then?”
“Jewelry.”
You turned back to look at him. “What? Like a necklace?”
“Something like that. Except I’m the only one who’ll see you wearing it.”
“Ah. And where is this gift?”
He kissed the top of your head. “Not here yet.”
You smiled to yourself. “People usually wait until they have the gift in hand before telling others about it.”
“I couldn’t wait. I’m excited to see you wear it.”
He stroked your hair, and your eyes grew heavy. Soon you started falling into deep slumber, feeling calm, comforted by Billy’s arms around you.
“What happened with your family?”
Your eyes flew open. Like always, any mention of your family unfurled anxiety within you. You didn’t like thinking about them letting alone discussing them. “They passed away.”
“They’re dead?”
“Yes.”
“Both of them?”
“Yes.”
He pulled you up so you were facing him now, his intoxicating gaze completely focused on you. “That day when I asked you about the pictures, you said you weren’t close to your family.”
“I meant my extended family. I don’t keep in touch with them,” you replied smoothly.
“What were your parents like?”
Irritation surged through you at his obtrusive questions but you had to remind yourself he just lost his mother. He was feeling out-of-sorts, working through his grief – even if he didn’t think so – and he was reaching out to the only person in his life that knew about his mother. “Normal.”
He simply stared at you for a long time, studying you, saying nothing. “Normal,” he repeated, finally breaking the strained silence.
You shrugged your shoulders, dropping your gaze to the base of his throat so you didn’t have to hold his piercing stare. “Yup.”
“How did they die?”
“Car accident.”
“You miss them?”
“Of course,” you lied.
He reached out to cup your face, his thumb stroking your cheek. “So you grew up with great parents, white picket fence and all that bullshit? Sounds like you had a fairytale childhood.”
“Can we talk about this tomorrow? I’m really tired.”
“Sure. I’ll add this to the list of all the other shit we’ll talk about someday.”
He sounded almost angry with you and you weren’t sure why. Before you could question him, however, he pulled you close so you were snuggled against his chest and the warmth of his body was enough to silence your brain and lull you to sleep.
***
It was a cold, crisp autumn day in New York. The outdoor service, attended by only you and Billy, was short and quick. Throughout it, he’d gripped your hand even though he’d been outwardly calm and collected. Even now as he stood a few feet away from you, impeccably dressed in a black suit, his dark eyes hidden behind a pair of aviator sunglasses as he stared out at the pond, you sensed he was a complete mess inside. You didn’t know what to say to him so you simply sat on the bench, both of you in an isolated corner of the garden. Eventually he came to sit beside you, taking your hand in his.
“I’d have given her the whole world.” His voice was filled with pain and longing as he removed his sunglasses and tucked them in the upper pocket of his suit. “I would have given her anything she ever wanted.” Billy’s eyes met yours. “If she’d just wanted me.”
You scooted closer to wrap your arms around him, breathing him in as he sunk into you. His hands caressed your back, his grip on you so tight you almost couldn’t breathe. After a while he rested his forehead against yours, his eyes holding you prisoner in front of him.
“Swear to me you’ll never leave.”
“Billy-”
“Promise me!”
“I can’t.”
“It wasn’t a fucking request, Y/N.”
You tried to pull away from him but he fisted the back of your hair, holding you in place.
The raw urgency in his voice played havoc with your emotions. If you closed your eyes, just for a moment, you could shut out all the doubts in your head and simply believe him - but you could only live the fantasy for a short moment before reality forced its way back in. “You don’t mean those words, Billy.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because you don’t feel that strongly about me.”
His eyes narrowed, glaring at you with hostility. “You’re gonna tell me how I feel?”
“I’m not what you want.”
“And what do you think I want?”
You gave him a sad smile. “The best of everything. Best car, best clothes, the most beautiful women in your arms. You want all that because you need others to want what you have.”
“Is that so wrong?”
You shook your head. “No, there’s nothing wrong with that – except I don’t fit into any of those categories. You want a woman like Dinah Madani. I’m not her. So eventually this thing between us will end.”
His jaw was set in a grim line, eyes burning bright with rage. “So you have me all figured out, huh?”
“Don’t get mad. You know it’s the truth.”
He yanked you closer, crushing you against him. “It’s been me against the world for as long as I can remember. But when I look at you.” His eyes softened, mouth parting as his dark gaze roamed over your face. “I don’t feel alone anymore.”
Your heart melted. The tenuous handle you had on your self-control disintegrated completely. You closed your mouth over his, kissing him frantically as he picked you up and straddled you across his lap.
He pulled back to look at you. “You’re my home. You’re all I need.”

My Little Clown
Being the Joker's girl isn't easy. If anything, it's a curse. To constantly be up at night thinking about the future, me and The Joker's. Gotham's dark knight has the two of us in his palm, It's only a matter of time until The Joker gets caught. God knows what torture they have awaiting him.
The thought of his suffering made me feel sick. His poor, hurt soul. Whatever did they do to you?
...
Despite the horrible things he'd done, I can't leave him. I can't. I never will. Why do I love you this much? A murderous lunatic, making me feel loved. Like I'm the happiest, luckiest girl in the world. Jack is the only person that makes me feel like this, like I'm somebody, and not just some puppet. The sheer thought of his bruised hand on my cheek, his scarred lips brushing against mine.. It makes me feel like I'm in heaven. I can't seem to come down. It's like he drugged me, pricked me with a love poisoned arrow.
But he doesn't want to admit it.
At least, not yet.
You're a dangerous drug, but oh god you're addicting. So addicting.
I lay in my bed, feeling like I'm in the sky as I think of more scenarios with Joker. The fluffy bed makes me feel more ecstatic.
"When are you coming home?"
I took a glance at the clock hanging on the wall.
12:15
Just as I was about to turn off the lamp on the bedside table, I hear the door creak open, and my head quickly turns to my right.
My eyes met his, a small grin can be seen blending in with that blood red lipstick. Oh how it tastes so intoxicating.
I stood up the bed, running towards his arms that are open wide for me to jump into.
I feel my chest rub against his leather suit, feeling his slow beating heart. His dark eyes stares into my soul, and I couldn't help but look back at them. Those two dull marbles, they don't scare me anymore. Not like it used to. In fact, just looking into them is enough to make me feel at home. They're comforting.
I stood on top of my toes to give him a kiss, but before I can even reach him, I feel his lips on mine. They're soft, and warm. They made me melt completely, losing my balance and catching myself by wrapping my arms around Joker's neck.
"Aww.. Looks like someone missed me."
What he just said made me red. Goosebumps scattered across my skin as his gloved hand caresses my cheek ever so slowly. I couldn't help but smile back at him, my face resting on his palm.
He lets go, leaving a small squint in my eyes. He takes off his coat and throws it on the ground.
"Today was, ah.. Tiring. Boring, even."
Then, his gloves. He walks over to a desk and places them there, and I couldn't help but notice his hands. They were bruised.
I opened my mouth finding words to say to him, but his deep voice interrupts.
"Those mobs were no fun at all.."
His left hand rolls up the sleeves on his right arm while he walks slowly over to the bed. He falls comfortably on the edge, patting both of his thighs as a gesture for me to sit on him.
I obey, sitting myself on his lap. I can feel his hot breath on my bare nape, sending shivers down my spine. He gently wraps his left arm on my waist, pulling me even closer to him while his right hand meets my hair, playing with random black strands. He's so childish.
"So, sweet cheeks.. What have you been up to?Hmm?" He sounded so gentle. It's unusual, yet it's so reassuring.
"Jack.." These words escape my lips. I turn around to face him, forcing him to back up and make space for me to sit on.
I place both my hands on his shoulder, looking directly in his eye. Nobody has ever dared to stare at the Joker, but I can tell. I can tell that he loves it when my brown eyes look into his.
"I.. Wanted to ask you something."
Oh God. What the hell am I saying?
"Jack.. What exactly do you feel.. About m-"
He silences me by pushing his lips on me, this time, it was harder. More passionate. His embrace made me fall on him, now making me on top of him as he lays down on the bed, his stringy hair messy against the white pillow below him. I pull away giving him the chance to answer my question.
"I thought I've made it obvious enough. I love you, (Y/N)."
His once dark eyes now twinkled with the stars out the window. He smiles. A genuine, pacifying smile spreads across his cheek.
"You are my purpose."
Before I even knew it, a tear sheds from my watering eyes. I'm crying. I'm crying over what the world calls a monster, what I called a monster. The rogue they so feared and loathed turns out to be my savior from the salvation this society had to offer me. For all my life. He's all I ever yearned for.
My destiny. My Joker. My Jack.
I felt myself becoming more weak, eventually collapsing on to his chest as I continue to sob.
He softly brushes my back, giving me a light kiss on the forehead.
...
It felt like 15 minutes until I finally caught up to my breath. Jack's gentle strokes really helped me calm myself down.
I stand up the bed, with him doing the same.
"Shh now, dollface.. I'm here.. Everything's ok." He whispers, leaning towards me and kissing my shaking lips. He bit and tug my bottom lip, causing a soft gasp to leave my mouth. The sensation made me lust for him uncontrollably as his tongue draws circles on mine, faint whines escaping my lips.
"You don't have to worry about anything. Tonight, you're all mine. And I'll be sure to fuck you so hard you won't be able to walk." He groaned, his voice now a bit lighter than before.
"You're such a kidder." I teased.
"You think I'm joking?" He glares at me, and he couldn't help but smirk.
"Well, they don't call you The Joker for nothin'."
He laughs, and I laugh with him. It's such a feeling to share chuckles with him, especially when it's just the two of us.
"As I was saying.."
In a flash, he pins me down the bed, both of my hands trapped in his. He kisses my neck and I can't help but moan at how sweetly he did it. But it didn't last for long, the sugary kiss was now salted with a bite. I felt him suck the spot where his lips used to be. It's painful, but god, it's oh-so gratifying.
I want more. I want more of him.
He stops and pulls away to have a good look at the mess he made. My neck was burning with purple and red.
"Now that is, uh.." He licks his lips. What a sight for sore eyes.
"A mark. A mark to label you.. Mine."
His hand meets the ribbon of my dress, undoing it until it was nothing but rags on the floor. He reaches to his pocket to grab a knife, the point pressing on my underwear ripping my bra and panties off, now exposing my naked body. He gazes were flaming, and I can feel him examine every part of me.
It's embarrassing, I'll admit, but I know how much The Joker loves to draw little smily faces on my skin with his soft fingertips, so by now I have no reason to feel like this. He's remembered every bit of me, and the both of us know it.
"My little clown."
His hand was now on my breasts, fondling them tenderly. His thumb draws circles on my tits and I let out a moan in his ear, making sure it ringed in his eardrums, memorizing the tune I made for him. My fingers dug on his back as he made his way down my torso, over to my hips, and eventually toying with my folds. His fingers are so warm it was sure to leave me melting over his touch again.
"Ah..? You're already this wet..? We're just starting, you little slut."
He continued to rub against my flaps, and he didn't hesitate to slide a finger inside. I gasped, I certainly wasn't ready for that.
He's extra stern tonight. He knows I like it that way.
His finger slowly pushed in and out, a moan slipping out of my throat. When Jack saw how I looked like absolutely gratified by his touch, he picked up the pace, now going as fas as light. He pushed another finger inside, then another. I'm getting ripped and I hate how much I love it. I grasp onto his shoulders, fingers digging into his wrinkly shirt, moaning in pure bliss.
"God, you're- ah.. Sooo tight. Soo wet tight for me."
"J-Jack! I'm gonna cum!"
"Oh no you're not. Not yet."
And when I was just about to, he stops. He pulls out his fingers, licking my liquids off like a thirsty cat.
He shoves his thumb, rubbing it inside my inner cheeks. And I'm not gonna lie when I say I love the taste of my fluids mixed with his spit. I squint my eyes, sucking and biting on him.
Jack stands up, giving me some time to sit up the bed and catch up on my breath. I look at him, catching sight of his hard erection, tightening and visible through his pants.
He unzips his violet bottoms and carelessly throwing them in the corner. I kneel down in front of him, pulling down his boxers to reveal his long, veiny cock leaking with pre-cum.
"Now, open wiiidee"
I obey, and before I can even start to suck the tip, he shoves all of it inside my mouth all the way to my throat, thrusting it rapidly as I desperately try not to gag. Eventually getting the hang of it, I swirl my tongue around, earning a loud moan from him.
"Fuck. You feel so good. You're doing so good, dollface." He groans. I look at up him to see him leaning his head back while he fucks my mouth, his eyes closed and his lips slightly open to let out quiet moans and groans. He opens his eyes to catch me sightseeing at his view, I look away to focus on my job, but then I glance back to him as my ears were met with his charming laughs.
"You're so cute, (Y/N)."
I blushed and smiled back at him.
My chest, thighs, and the floor was all covered in saliva and juices.
A few thrusts later and he picks up the speed, becoming more hasty and shaky. I can tell he's close.
He groans finally, his deep nasally voice spoke
"I'm gonna cum, (Y/N), and you're gonna take it all in like a good. little. doll."
I nod.
"Fuck!"
Then, he releases it in my throat. I swallow it all, not a drop dripping out of my lips. He puts a knuckle on my chin, pulling my head up to make eye contact with him, now kneeling in front of me.
"Where, uh.. Where'd ya learn how to suck dick like that, hmm?" He whispers, and I let out a giggle.
"Did I do good?"
He kisses me, our tongues colliding and he pulls out with a spit still on his mouth.
"You did amazing, doll. But now.."
He lifts me up the floor and throws me onto the bed once again. He rests his knees in front of me, hoisting my legs up and wrapping them around his neck.
"Now.. You're getting your reward, as deserved."
He rubs his tip on my swollen clit, exchanging heavy breaths with each other. My eyes are on him, not leaving it once. He leans in front to be closer to me, and I quickly pull him in, kissing him on the lips.
"Hey. Better stay in your place, sweets. Otherwise tonight's 'session' is gonna be longer than expected."He mutters.
"But daddy-"
He stops stroking.
"What- uh.. What'd you just call me?"
Now I'm hitting his weak spots. He loves being called that nickname, like I love being called his good little girl. He loves dominating me as much as I love being commanded by him.
"Daddy, plea-"
"Oh you're fucking getting it."
He strokes one last time before pushing his cock inside me. He's so big. I can remember the pain I felt when we first had sex, he stretched me out so much and I bled all over white sheets. But it was all worth it. Once he hit my sweet spots, I was in heaven.
I let out a moan, leaving him to do the same. He slides in and out, making lewd sounds that echoed around the room, blending with our whines and whimpers.
"Oh Jack yes! Fuck me! Please! Fuck me harder, daddy!"
"Awe, is my little doll enjoying herself?"
"Oh yes, yes I am!!"
"Let's see just how long you're going to last me, you pathetic little whore."
He turns me around and I feel a hard smack on my ass, leaving me wailing. He continues to thrust, slapping my cheeks the same time our hips collide when he bangs me mercilessly.
I feel his chest on my back and his breath at the back of my shoulder. He bites down on my shoulder blade, his yellow teeth deepening in my skin and sucking it. I cry and whimper to no avail, as he continues to mark my shoulder bone with purple and red.
He pulls back, blood dripping from his teeth and swallowing it. Jack continues to fuck me from behind while looking at me, close-up.
"You look so beautiful, even when you're getting your brains fucked out." He cackles in glee.
"You enjoy being messed up by my cock that much, don't cha?"
"Very much!"
"Then cum for me. Cum for me, you pitiable fucking nymph! Cum for daddy." He groans, his voice so deep that I can feel the air vibrate. He pulls on my hair while he places his left hand on my loin.
Those words were enough to make me do what he wanted, cumming in pure euphoria and those stupid butterflies fluttering inside my stomach. He turns me to him and I arch my back, giving Jack full access to my hips, grabbing them and pulling me closer to his pelvis, fucking me even faster than before.
I had just came, so my clit was really sensitive, and that, Jack knew very well. He puts his thumb on the spot, rubbing it bluntly.
The rhapsody I felt was slowly fading, but Jack had no plans on stopping.
"Jack- Jack it hurts-"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry my angel. It's almost over, alright? Keep your eyes on me."
And I do so. I put my hands on his cheeks to softly caress it, causing his eyes to flutter and sparkle. I smiled at the sight, almost forgetting the discomfort between my legs.
"Mhmm.. Fuck..!" Jack curses.
I felt the hot spurts of cum he planted inside me as his cock twitches uncontrollably. He pulls out, some semen left dripping on the bedsheets and on my stomach.
He lays down beside me and I put a hand on his chest. I scooch closer to him but he already pulls me in for our last kiss tonight.
"You.. You were- ah.. You were okay."
I let out a small chuckle on how bad and ridiculously he tried to deny what he felt.
"I love you, Jack."
I turn around and he spoons me in his big arms. I squirm around and purposefully rub my ass on his crotch.
...
His dick is still hard.
