IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! Fandom Trumps Hate 2024 is kicking off with creator sign ups in just 2 weeks, and now I'm flying in to give you the details and encourage you to sign up and make a difference!

Now you may be thinking- what is Fandom Trumps Hate anyway?? I'm glad you asked!

'FTH is an online fanworks auction, designed to raise money for progressive nonprofit organizations that help and support marginalized people.' (more info from their FAQ here)

What this means is that you, the creator, will sign up to offer any type of digital fan offering you'd like, including:

fanfiction

fanart

podfic

edits/fanvids

fan labor (beta read, sensitivity reading, specialized expertise, etc)

Creator sign-ups are open from February 5th to February 19th (full calendar here)

But how will my little fanwork even make a positive impact on things?? Here are some facts for your consideration:

in 2023, FTH raised over $47k dollars for nonprofit orgs (and almost $240k in the 7 year total)

Red White & Royal Blue was brand new to FTH last year and came in tied for 4th place on the unlisted fandom rank along with 911 Lone Star, Overwatch, and The Owl House

On the 2023 Ao3 stats list, the Alex/Henry ship (FirstPrince) was also brand new to the list and came in #16 out of 100

This fandom is so young and so full of life and energy - we are history makers at our core! Let's put that to use and support some nonprofits with the fan work we already love doing. Truly I think our own Alex Claremont-Diaz said it best...

I'm offering a fic in the 5-10k range. I know I've written longer FTH fics in the past (see below!) but due to time constraints this year I will be sticking pretty firmly to that 10k limit. So please keep that in mind when considering your prompt. :)

Fandom Trumps Hate 2024

I can't believe it's here again! I feel like I only just polished off my last FTH submission and the that special time of year has already come back around. 2023 was my first time participating in FTH - still as a relatively new writer in the BBC Sherlock fandom - and it was an amazing experience. I managed to write two fics, though this year I am only offering one. To be fair, that was the case last year as well, but I decided to also write a story for my second-place bidder as I had plenty of time remaining after finishing my first entry. We'll see how it goes this time!

Offering: One fic, between 5k-10k words (though it'll likely be longer, this is the most I feel comfortable promising).

Pressure Points, for @discordantwords: The bonfire doesn't happen during The Empty Hearse. Instead, both John and Sherlock are placed into a life-or-death situation. One that may prove too much for a still-wounded Sherlock.

Cold Inside, for @shakespearelovedladymacbeth: Sherlock has just shot Magnussen, and John feels adrift. Everything is wrong. He's fairly certain he hates his wife, too. The regrets are too numerous for him to count. Sherlock is in prison, his ultimate fate unknown and the isolation slowly (or, rather, worryingly quickly) whittling away at his sanity. Mycroft is equally untethered, scrambling for options. Perhaps John can help. And perhaps, just perhaps, they can manage to save Sherlock and rid themselves of Mary in one fell swoop. (HLV fix-it)

I am participating in Fandom Trumps Hate for the third year in a row! This year I'm offering one written fanwork, between 10 and 20k words, and up to an E rating.

The world is hurting, and I am tired and overwhelmed, so you can bid to any of the supported charities this year, and combine your donation to me with a donation you're making for another auction to help stretch those dollars further!

Last year I offered my first written work (my first year I only offered beta reading) and wound up writing my most favorite fic ever. Getting the prompt idea from @andromeda4004 for Ever-Fixed and being allowed to run with it to create two additional stories was an amazing experience!

I'm excited to get inspired by your idea and see where it takes me next! And you know, I have this really bad habit of offering to my second place bidders, so it's worth getting in on the race!

Hi! I'm participating in Fandom Trumps Hate this year, in the fancraft bazaar (meaning I'll be offering physical items).

So. I'll be offering a clay medaillon with up to one symbol per face (I can do more than two sides, too, if I make it pyramidal. It will be heavier though). Example of a two-sided medaillon, painted with the Hawkeye symbol on one face and the Winter Soldier one on the other:

Price tiers: - 20 or more: a single-sided medaillon - 30 or more: a double-sided medaillon - 40 or more: a three-sided pyramidal medaillon - 50 or more: a four-sided pyramidal medaillon - 60 or more: a five-sided cylinder (base triangle) medaillon - 70 or more: a six-sided double pyramid medaillon (for example: if you offer 45, you may ask for a single-, double-, or three-sided medaillon)

Wait what's FTH:

@fandomtrumpshate is a charity drive centered around the creation of fanworks (fanart, fanfic, services (like betaing or podcasting), etc.; the vast majority of things are fandom-centered but it's not actually a prerequisite); the way it works is: you bid on an auction set up by a participant; on march 9th, the winner is selected; I (let's say you bid on my auction) contact the winner, who then makes a donation of the amount that won the bid to one of the charities on the list, and sends me the proof of donation; I send the proof of donation to fth, contact the winner to check what exactly they want, make it and then send it to them (they pay for the shipping); more info there: https://fandomtrumpshate.tumblr.com/FAQ (look around their blog for the other participants too!)

Timetable:

The example medaillon is already done and will be sent immediately if the highest bidder chooses those symbols. I can make other single- or double-sided medaillons in a couple weeks. For more than two sides, or if you want your medaillon glazed instead of painted, it may take a few months.

Why do you keep saying medaillon, isn't it just a necklace?

I can send it as a necklace (with waxed cotton string and a toggle clasp (the ones shaped like an I and an O) or just a knot) or just the medaillon if you want to hang it on a wall; we can discuss that later: as long as I already have the materials at hand I can do whatever you like best.

Symbols available:

I am mostly into Marvel and DC (and Teen Wolf but I don't think they have clear character-related symbols?), but if you want simple geometrical symbols from other fandoms (or non-fandom) I can do it too (just send me a reference).

Glaze? Paint? What's the difference?

The symbol can be painted on with stained glass-imitation paint, solvent-based. This solution is faster (a couple weeks), since I already have everything on hand. Or it can be glazed (glaze is a glass-like color/material fired at very high temperatures; it is very sturdy: you'll break the medaillon before you manage to scratch it, dilute it, or flake it off; the one I use is shiny). Glaze takes more time (a few months) because I need to make a new clay medaillon, wait for it to dry, get it to the kiln, wait for the kiln people to fire it, add the glaze, and get it to the kiln again for a second firing. The pattern will probably be lightly raised. I have slightly less glaze than paint colors, and black glaze is for now an issue (I can't guarantee it'll look good). Shipping - as in sending stuff :) :

I will ask you to cover the shipping costs in addition to the donation. If you win the auction, you'll have to make the donation to the charity of your choice (which is the amount I take into account for the price tiers) and send me the proof of donation, then send me the amount needed for shipping (I'll tell you how much it is depending on where you live).

Fandom Trumps Hate 2024

Bidding has officially opened for FTH 2024! What is FTH? An event where fandom creators offer a gifted fan art/fan fic/fan labour of all kinds as a thank you for a donation to a charity! Each creator has their own page with what they're offering, and here's mine!

My Auctions

This year, I am offering a translation from English to French (or French to English) and fan labour as a beta for French! It is my first year offering beta services through FTH as I saw there was a demand for French beta readers (and I am very excited!), as for translations, I have done many over the past years, you can find all of them on my AO3.

There are offerings in dozens and dozens of fandoms, with over 1000 auctions this year, and the charities picked for this year cover trans rights, abortion rights, relief for Palestinian children, and many other so important causes.
