The winner of the pole, The Hobbit series! Time for some fluffy bilbo action. Bilbo is so adorable, gotta protect him at all costs❣️
Tumblr media
Tw: none, fluff, gn reader, use of “you”, aimed to be platonic but can be whatever you’d like
An early nights rest, that’s all you wanted. On top of the nightmares, a grueling several days constantly walking and fending for your lives, all for the sake of bringing the king back to his mountain. You signed up for it, you suppose, but you certainly didn’t sign up for the heavy snores and coughs of Bombur blissfully unaware of the moths he was inhaling.
The constant tossing and turning was futile, an exasperated sigh leaving your lips as you finally flip on your back. You stare up at the stars, sinking ever so slightly into the bed roll beneath you, the fabric providing just a little bit of cushioning from the cold hard ground. Yet another night where sleep seems to escape you, slipping from your grasp like an empty promise. As you squint up at the sky, you could almost see the nightmares taking shape. The darkness of your half lidded eyes harbored flashing images of orc raids and troll kidnappings, it made you shudder at the core.
The images seem to vanish with a huff of frustration sounding beside you, breaking you from your fear ridden trance. Your gaze lands on the company burglar, Bilbo Baggins, sat beside the fire, on a stump of a long forgotten willow tree. You couldn’t quite make out what he was doing, his back facing you and posture hunched. You were too curious to ignore it, and much too restless to even try and sleep now. With a stretch, you stand from your bedroll, quietly approaching as to not wake the others. The closer you got, the more you picked up on the brittle sound of something being cut with a crude knife. You also caught a glimpse of flashing reflections from the flames dancing on the metallic surface. Now, you stood just behind him, peaking over his shoulder to reveal a pair of shaky hands attempting to whittle what looked like a small animal.
“Can’t sleep?” You whispered, watching him jump and nearly drop the items in hand. You giggled at how jumpy he tends to be, watching his eyes go from big, doe like orbs and back to normal again. “Not at the moment,” he replied, patting the seat beside him, to which you obliged. “What’s on your mind Bilbo?” You didn’t look at him, instead, looking to the stars once again. “Home sick, I suppose,” he paused for just a moment, staring down at the wood in his hands. You could see him caress the texture of the bark, skimming over it with his thumb whilst deep in thought. “I feel like I was wrong to come along,” he kept his head low as he spoke, “I don’t belong here.” You halted your fixation on the stars to shoot him a look of confusion. Your brows knit together, letting the words hang in the air for a moment in silence. “Bilbo, you belong more than you believe,” you placed a hand on his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze before dropping it back to your side. “We all need you,” you give him a gentle smile, watching him mirror it as his own. “You really think so?” He asked, his voice became a little more confident, and a light tint of red spread on his cheeks. You nod, “I know so.”
You sat together in a peaceful quiet for a moment, soaking in the heat of the fire to fend off the chills of the night air. A thought popped into your mind, remembering the task he had previously been doing. “You whittle?” You asked, jerking your head to the knife and wood he held. He looked down, as if forgetting he was even holding anything before gently pressing the blade to the surface of the wood. “Learning to, although it’s a lot harder than I believed it would be,” he twisted the wood in his hand, probably envisioning the completed artwork. “What were you aiming to make?” You questioned, your head tilted slightly to portray your curiosity. He shrugged, averting his gaze to the bright flames of the campfire, “A sheep, it reminds me of home.” He smiled at the thought, taking a deep breath of the crisp night air. “There are plenty in the Shire, perhaps you can see them someday,” he looked to you for a reaction, grazing over the features of your face before looking back down at the fire. “That sounds pleasant,” you felt your eyes grow heavy from just the thought of the Shire, the friendly halflings and bountiful sheep population combined with the smell of freshly grown crops. He nodded in agreement, looking back to the stars ahead, “I hope to show you after all of this.”

at this point I’ve seen so many posts about ROP from completely different sides of the good vs bad argument, that I’m honestly obliged to just take the middle ground and be that annoying bitch who doesn’t really have a strong opinion on anything, I’m just here to appreciate what can be appreciated and criticize what should be criticized, and nothing more. y’all have fun tho

My thoughts about the RoP series:
Is it good? No.
But is it good? Yes.
Is it an exact replica of Tolkien's work? Absolutely not.
Will I still enthusiastically watch it every Friday? Absolutely yes I will.
It's about time people realize the show is not connected to Peter's lotr adaptations, and it should be interpreted as a separate thing. Either way, I enjoy it.

"this series has fucked me up so much that by the time I got to 6 and Nagumo said he was gonna go to Kamurocho with Kiryu I immediately started crying because all I could think of was Shinji and Rikiya and oh God I need like ten whole minutes"

I WATCHED THE RINGS OF POWER EPISODE 2 (illegally) SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO (PART 2):
IT IS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN EPISODE 1 BUT NOT BY A LOT.
As always a list of bad things and good things (which expanded a bit).
BAD THINGS-
Nori (the Harfoot we follow) seems to suffer from chosen one syndrome because she uses the typical line 'he fell here for a reason.' She thinks she is important but she is just annoying.
Her friend Poppy is just the plain comic relief and is also annoying. Like they just saw the 'stranger' (who probably is one of the Isitari) plummet to the ground and when Nori nears him, they start cracking up jokes. (Hobbits are jokey creatures but when things are serious they adjust themselves to the situation).
The stranger must be an Isitari because he sends fireflies into the air the same way Gandalf does with moths. If he is, it furthers Amazon's disrespect towards the source material because the Isitari made their appearance later in the second age in a different manner.
Once again I am forced to peck on Galadriel. This elleth (whom is shorter than the humans because Amazon has no respect for the source material) almost swam the whole stretch of the ocean between Valinor and 'Middle Earth' until she hitchhikes with knock-off Aragorn (Whom I think is Sauron).
There was a group of humans who rescued her, they're not important but yeah, their dialog is written with tragic stupidity. They call Galadriel a liar even though she said nothing that could be considered a truth or a lie. (Shows the limited capacity of the writers' brains).
Arondir (I rembered his name, yay!) is like the Amazon Spock/Legolas. Still a very 2D character along with his cliché girlfriend, Bronwyn.
On the subject of Bronwyn, she needs to get a babysitter or something for her son, Theo (something along those lines), cause boy gets himself in tons of trouble and he has some anger issues (plus he is a thief). I call it here first, Sauron is going to make him his disciple or something because he has the dark sword.
More non-Tolkien beasts are introduced. Most prominent of which is a dinosaur looking thing in the ocean.
The prop hammers the dwarf prince Durin uses when challenging Elrond is so obviously plastic and light. Even the actors can't make them look heavy or made of metal.
And why do the humans hate the elves? I know in the books they don't really trust or like each other but they were not outright enemies.
Still no respect for the source material or the legend, J.R.R Tolkien.
GOOD THINGS-
Kazad-dum looks absolutely gorgeous. The CGI is better in the second episode compared to the first. Well done on this.
Elrond, despite his awful haircut and his costumes for this episode sucking, develops personality in this episode and actually makes it into being a likeable character. Canonically, according to the books, he should be more modest (and definitely not politically ambitious).
Durin and Disa, despite her lack of beard, is the best and I will die for them. They truly capture the Dwarven spirit we are used to from Gimli and the company of Thorin Oakenshield. Disa is by far my favourite character as she has spunk and personality, which I believe all Dwarven women have.
Celebrimbor, despite looking older than his ancient, great-aunt Galadriel, plays his character rather coolly. He has this pompous but still lordly air around him that I can respect.
The orcs design is phenomenal. I can see where most of the budget went.
Now comes something I never hoped to address, fandom issues. Guys wether you hate ROP or like it. That's your opinion. Don't bully or judge someone based on this trivial matter. (I have noticed that some of the people who are more loyal towards the books dislike the show, and some of the people who fancy the movies more like the show.) If you like it, like it. If you don't like, then don't like it. Either way, no hate intended. This is just my opinion.
I have to admit my criticism over the first episode was harsh but as a die hard fan, they kind of deserved it (it's not like they're going to see my post anyway.)
Okay. That's all I have to say. See you again for episode 3.

Lord of the Rings:Rings of Power Review:
(MAJOR SPOILER AT THE VERY END DONT READ IF NOT SEEN TIL THE END)
I  love it soo far the scenery and visual effects are absolutely amazing my fav characters are Nori and Galadriel as Nori is adorable and Galadriel is so badass Some of those fight scenes are amazing and also the costumes and stuff are awesome as well. Also I think the Stranger who's with The Harfoots (Nori's tribe) is a wizard but thats just a guess!! In my opinion the males in the show haven't done much to impress as of yet. what a twist the reveal of Halbrand was Saulron tho and the part when Nori was  saying goodbye to the wizard was cute asf I really liked the show and would give it a 9.5 and am now hoping they make a season 2 and dont cancel it as im excited to see what they do with season 2 if it gets made.

Rings of power - some thoughts
So like a lot of fantasy nerds I have been watching Rings of Power. I've followed the commentary back and forth from the racist reactions to the "it's destroying Tolkien" rants to "they're ruining my childhood." complaints.
Anyway I decided that while I think the series is deeply flawed, there a whole set of things I really like about it, so I'm going to put them out there to try and put some positivity on the internet.
Galadriel - she's not a perfect character by any means, but she's got lots of room to grow and develop, which is always a positive. One of the opening shots of her climbing the ice also looked amazing!
Tumblr media
Arondir - I was very unsure of this guy initially, but I actually think he's brilliant. He looks incredible in the fights and his romance that's not quite a romance with Brownyn is the definition of a slow burn. I LOVE IT!
Tumblr media
Brownyn and her son Theo - A set of characters that are difficult to get right, but I think the writing of both them has got better and better as the series has gone. Brownyn is seriously bad ass, some of her fights are epic in scale!! Theo has actually matured as a result of everything he's had to go through. I really hope that these two and Arondir survive, I'm v invested in this little family.
Tumblr media
The numenorians arrive on middle earth - I admit their arrival to take down the orcs absolutely hits the spot for me. I love cavalry charges and this is a wonderful scene (the score is truly massive in scale too, it's as if you're there with them, just fabulous). Not only does it look great, but you absolutely buy Galadriel as a commander charging to the rescue at the head of the army with Halbrand close behind :)
Halbrand - He intrigues me as a character, dysfunctional and damaged and terribly mysterious :) And he has fabulous hair and looks great in armour and on horse back. This sword trick is really cool too. He has also got great whump potential *coughs*
Tumblr media
Adar and the orcs - the series acknowledges the tragic origin of the orcs and how they in some ways can't help what they are. What would anyone be if they were formed from torture and agony. I'm not exactly sympathetic, but they're more understandable. It makes Adar a more interesting character as a result.
Tumblr media
Elendil - he gets a special mention for having to deal with all the crazy in Numenor and keeping it together in a silly helmet :)
Tumblr media
Elrond and Durin - I love this friendship, when Durin shouts "You missed my wedding!" my heart broke for them. For me this is one of the best relationships of the series.
Tumblr media
Disa - she gets a point all her own because she has great hair and jewellery and a gorgeous outfit. Her singing voice is almost ethereal in quality too. She is also an ideal match for Durin and gets some of the best dialogue "That's mighty strong gravy" makes me smile :)
Tumblr media
The dwarves in general - while the way they are portrayed isn't necessarily "true to tolkien" (I don't know enough Tolkien law to comment on this one way or the other). I would argue that you absolutely convinced by them as a race, a people with a world all their own in the series.
Tumblr media
That's it really, we'll have to wait to see what the finale brings!
