isaiah doesn't go away, not after max nearly shatters his nose. late night phone calls, text messages, and dms lead to a break in that terrifies you and the f1 world. luckily, you're away for the break in, but its not safe for you to return alone. don't worry though, max enlists the help of a few drivers to move all your stuff to his while you 'hunt for apartments.'

wing damage ch 2 - mv1

nadine struggles to accept the fact that she's single and alone in her now too big yet claustrophobic apartment. luckily for her, max is only a phone call away. and a few too many drinks lead to what is probably the stupidest decision for two newly single people who are hurting in their own rights.

meet cute, stay cute - ls2

logan keeps having meet-cutes with you throughout london, noticing the same thing each time, a book tucked under your arm. when you move in next door, he capitalizes on the opportunity to make this meet cute permanent by buying you romance books he's recommended by friends and twitter as a means of flirting.

out of the woods ch3 - ls2

dhanishka struggles to accept the fact that even her best performances can be deemed unfit, and the actions of herself when shes drunk. logan struggles to accept he may have cut things off early. charles needs more wine to deal with this.

go fins! - ls2

logan is only following one miami dolphins cheerleader, you. and you don't think its a big deal until he comes to visit to get an honorary helmet for the miami gp, and they have you give it to him. the clips circle for weeks, begging to know if you're dating the driver, and sometimes its more fun to make a rumor be true than to shut it down.

Back in like. the 2nd grade me and the other weird girls would larp as characters from the movies we had watched with our parents, and yes the reason I'm even posting this is that this one time me and my friend (he was an honorary weird girl because he was obsessed with ben 10, ninjago and ballet) had both watched karate kid and he wanted me to be Ali and I got mad because everyone knew I only wanted to play the boy parts in whatever we were doing, so we fought about who got to be daniel and everyone else in our group got tired of us fighting and decided to play star wars instead so we didn't even get to play :/ the next week my friend dropped me on purpose in ballet class and I hit him in the head with a plastic shovel during recess so i guess we managed to settle that in a mature way.

#everyone in that group got diagnosed with adhd and/or autism in the following years #i miss my weird girl squad sometimes lol #also worth mentioning: none of us knew the plot of anything because we were seven and had just learned the colors in English

Chapter 9: I Gotten Myself in a Sticky Situation

Okay, so the first thing that came to my head was not something like, ‘Sam! You’re on fire!’ Or ‘Such devastation…’ (If anyone understands THIS reference, you will be an honorary friend for life); instead, my first reaction was literally, “HOLY CRAP! SAM, YOU LEARNED ULTRA INSTINCT!”

Ugh, I got to take a break from anime, Sam as well. Anyways, Mitch got back on his feet and asked, “The hell is Ultra Instinct?”

Before I could answer, Daniel replied, “It’s a technique in Dragon Ball that even gods struggle to master! It’s one of the most powerful techniques that Goku was able to master after Dragon Ball Super!”

“Hold up!” I yelled. “You watch Dragon Ball?”

Daniel looks at me with confusion, as if it’s common sense.

“Who doesn’t know Dragon Ball?”

“Can you guys shut up about cartoons and deal with this first?!” Mitch yelled.

At that moment, a murder was about to be committed.

“How am I friends with you?” Daniel replied.

Suddenly, a strong gust of wind was blown at us from Sam’s position.

“I don’t care how strong she is, I beat her before, I can do it again!”

Mitch charges at her, but she dodges all of his attacks. The way she moves though was smooth and effortlessly; as if she’s just water itself. I’ve seen enough martial arts movies to tell… kind of.

“Why won’t you stay still?!”

Daniel answered, “If it’s like Ultra Instinct… okay, not a lot of time to explain but basically she’s just really good at-”

“DODGE!” I yelled as that strong tingling sense intensified.

Before Mitch could attack, he heard what I said and ducked down, a gust of wind flew past him and hit a tree, cutting it in half. Mitch saw the tree and shuddered at the immense power she demonstrated.

“Okay, nerds… let’s, uh, say I believe you now. Where do we go from here?”

Don’t quote Cell. Don’t quote TeamFourStar. Don’t quote TeamFourStar Cell.

“We just need to hold out long enough until she wears out. Though, I don’t know how long that’ll be,” Daniel explained. He’s not wrong, whatever Sam is going through, eventually she’ll have to get tired. Right? I mean that usually works in anime so I presume it should work in real life, right?

“ESTELLE!”

I look behind me and see Percy, Annabeth and Chiron heading toward us. I guess Jessie told the three about my note. Eh, it’s fine. I knew it was bound to happen, I just hoped that I would’ve finished the game before I got caught. Though right now, we have bigger problems.

“Hey Percy,” I said. “I know you're mad, but we have bigger problems right now. Sam is going berserk for some reason, and she has an immense aura surrounding her.”

Percy ran forward and picked up a shield that was on the ground. He uncapped his pen and it transformed into a sword. Sam reacted as Percy charged and sent another powerful gust of wind toward him. He blocked it with the shield, but he was pushed back a bit but still standing.

“Damn! What power!” Percy yelled.

Chiron was shocked and said, “It can’t be…”

“Estelle, get back! Mitch, Daniel, You’re with me. We’ll try to wear her down and knock her out.”

“Percy! Wait!” I yelled but the three already charged at Sam. I bet you’re thinking, ‘three boys against one girl? That’s cruel. Well, it would be if it weren’t for the fact that Sam has gotten an OVERPOWERED ABILITY AND IS DODGING LIKE A BOSS.

Piccolo would be proud.

“Estelle!” Annabeth ran toward me and asked, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, Annabeth. But, what’s wrong with Sam? She’s… different.”

“That… is Aura,” Chiron replied.

“Aura?” I asked. “What’s that?”

“… Aura is-”

[PAUSE]

You’re probably thinking, ‘Isn’t this supposed to be about Estelle Blofis becoming a hero? Basically, a Marvel Story?’

Well, yes but you see… Sam awoke something that was deemed to be considered impossible to achieve and it’s a really complex thing to talk about. Most likey, it’d take a while to explain what this Aura is. So for now, we’ll put a pin to that and focus more on the fight. But trust me when I say this, Samantha Stacy has become a Shonen Anime Main Character, no joke. After this fight, I’ll explain what Aura is, I promise. For now we’ll talk about the basics.

[FAST FORWARD]

“-a strong energy source that dwells within all living creatures, especially the gods. What Samantha Stacy is doing is unlocking the full potential of Aura, which only gods themselves can do.”

“Woah… so she’s something special herself, isn’t she?” I commented.

Annabeth nodded, “Indeed, but it was only a theory. We never were able to confirm the existence of it. But seeing it now… It’s astonishing.”

“Okay, but… you know what, we’ll talk about it later. For now, we need to stop Sam from hurting anyone,” I said.

The three boys tried to knock out Sam, but she was too fast and kept dodging every attack. She hasn’t even moved out of her spot, like Percy and the others weren’t much of a challenge. Suddenly, a strong wave of energy burst out of Sam and pushed everyone back.

“Such power!” I yelled. “Just where is she getting all this power?!”

Percy was down on one knee but Mitch and Daniel are down. Percy kept on the offensive, but Sam was just too fast for him. As Percy tried to make her trip, she did a backflip and jumped on top of a branch of a tree nearby.

Percy cursed quietly as the rest of the campers arrived at the scene. Chiron informs everyone to stay back as Percy tries to calm down Sam. I got up and ran toward Sam.

“Estelle! Get back!” Percy yelled but I ignored him. If fighting won’t calm her down, maybe I can. At least, I hope so.

“Sam! It’s me, Estelle! Can you hear me?” I said.

Sam jumps down on the ground and faces me. The aura that surrounds her is immense but it’s starting to cool down a bit.

“That’s right, Sam. It’s me, no one is going to hurt you. I promise.”

I kept talking as I walked closer to her. Percy was trying to tell me to stay back but I looked at him with an expression that says I can handle it. Annabeth does it all the time and he listens. I may be over my head, but Sam is my best friend, and now technically my sister, so I gotta do whatever it takes to help her.

“Come on, Sam. You don’t have to be scared. I’ll always be there to help you out, remember? We’re sisters… well, technically we are now since you’re a daughter of Athena and Annabeth is one as well so- I’m getting off track. Look, just listen to my voice and be calm. I got you.”

Talking to her is working. The aura is dimming and she’s starting to wobble a bit. As I got closer, I heard Mitch and Daniel slowly getting up. Percy tells them to stay away from us as I try to calm Estelle down. Unfortunately, Daniel accidentally hit a small twig and it snapped, making a noise that startled Sam. She reacted quickly and was just about to fire another gust of powerful wind towards him.

“SAM! NO!” I yelled as I tried to reach her hand. Then, something crazy happened. There was this green magic circle that appeared on my sleeve. As I try to reach Sam's arm to avoid Daniel getting hurt…

THWIP

I suddenly shot out a ball of web fluid toward her hand, which made her miss and shoot upwards. Of all the things that happened in just a week, that was the most bizarre thing to ever occur. Monsters attacking us in a museum? Classic start of an adventure. Learning about the existence of monsters and gods? Seen enough Supernatural so I’m used to it. My family being demigods themselves (excluding my parents)? It explains everything about them.

But the fact that I just shot out a small threadball of web out of nowhere was the strangest thing to ever happen. And to add to that, that tingling sensation keeps happening whenever I’m in combat or about to get attacked. That can’t be just a coincidence, right?

Sam’s energy skyrocketed and burned off the web in her hand and faced me.

“Sam! Calm down! It’s me! Listen to my voice!”

But she wasn’t listening as she now aimed her hand at me. The tingling grew and then I ducked and tried to make her trip by instinct. But Sam jumped, but it’s what I want her to do. As she jumps, I grab her by the legs and she falls down. We landed near a puddle that was nearby so we got a bit wet, but the energy around her just vaporized it completely.

Oh man, I feel bad for the dude (or girl) that’ll break her heart.

“SAM! STOP!” I yelled.

Suddenly, I heard her mutter something.

“What? Talk to me, Sam!”

“...Dad… don’t… go…”

At that moment, I understood what was happening. Sam is still unconscious and is having a nightmare. Another burst of energy emerged and pushed me off of her. Sam got back up and charged at me. Percy was about to intervene, but I told him to stop. As Sam was about to punch, I dodged thanks to that tingling sensation. I kept dodging all of her attacks as I noticed that as time passes, her attacks are getting weaker. I can tell because of the heat, it was cooling down. If I can just get her to wake up, she’ll go back to normal. As I kept dodging, I tried to wake her up by talking. Seems like she’s still having nightmares about what happened to her father. I wouldn’t blame her, watching the only blood family you have die in front of you can be traumatizing. But I won’t abandon her.

I noticed that those magic circles that appeared on sleeves are still there. I don’t know how I did it, but I tried to use them again at Sam’s feet.

It worked, though I figured that since it was just web fluid I thought, ‘What if it’s like Spiderman and I gotta do a certain hand signal?’ So I did the Spiderman web shot gesture and it worked. It made Sam imobile and unable to escape. Though normally, she’d just burn off the web fluid but she’s losing more and more of her immense strength.

I just gotta hold out a little longer. Sam was starting to yell out of nowhere, it seems like her nightmare is getting worse.

“Sam! Wake up! It’s only a nightmare!” I yelled.

“Don’t… Leave me! Dad!” Sam yelled.

The Aura grew hotter and stronger. Out of pure instinct (not the tingling one, but mine), I rushed toward her and hugged her.

“Sam… it’s okay. I’m here for you,” I said. “Remember what you told me, back in kindergarten? You said that you want to be as strong as me. Well you are, but you need to wake up and control that power. It’s yours and yours alone. You dream of having an adventure ever since you read those books. And remember Final Fantasy? Sword Art Online? Danmachi? You dreamed of having adventures like that, right? Well guess what; your dream will become a reality. And you’ll make more friends along the way.”

Sam's eyes were starting to close and the aura that surrounded is fading. Next thing I knew, she collapsed in my arms.

“I got you, Sam. I got you.”

She groans as she opens her eyes.

“Stella? Wha-,” Sam jolted up. “What happened?! Did we lose? I blacked out for a moment and…” Sam notices the crowd that surrounds them. “Did something happen?”

I chuckled, “Yeah, I’ll explain later. Let’s get you up.”

I got up and gave Sam a hand.

“Estelle!” Percy yelled.

“It’s fine, bro. She’s okay, no one got hurt… mostly.”

Percy just stood there with a shocking expression. In fact, everyone was.

“What?” I asked. I heard people muttering and whispering about something. “Don’t worry, Sam’s awake now. She won’t cause any troubles as soon as we figure out what the heck her powers are and-”

“Estelle Blofis,” Chiron interrupted. “It’s not Samantha that concerns us right now.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Stella?”

I looked back at Sam and saw her with the same reaction as everyone else, except she was looking above me.

“What is it Sam?”

She gestured for me to look up and I did. I saw a big symbol floating above me but I couldn’t tell what it was. Plus, how could I be claimed in the first place? I’m 100% mortal.

“Sam? What god or goddess is it claiming me for?”

“None…”

“Then what’s the symbol?” I asked.

She replied.

“...A Spider…”

Oh…

Suddenly, everything that was happening around me was making sense now. The Spider that bit me and disappeared; the tingling sensation on my body; the magic circles and web shooting and the crazy dream I have been having lately. And my first reaction?

“Ah… Crapbasket. Percy, do we have an Uncle Ben?! Cause I’d be very concerned about his safety right now.”

So… that happened.

Well… I have some time before we can start the next scene so…

I guess I can talk about what was happening to Sam earlier. Just to clarify, this is a theory Annabeth made with the help of Chiron and the Kane Family in the past. To start, it’s called Aura, it’s an energy source that dwells within all living creatures; like the Force in Star Wars. The gods themselves have better control of it because they are the living embodiment of Aura. It’s like this, for every prayer or thoughts related to the gods, Aura energy manifests those thoughts and creates the gods. How that even happened in the first place is still a mystery, but that explains how the gods and monsters exist and why they keep coming back. The stronger the beliefs, the more powerful the being becomes.

However, even Gods themselves cannot master Aura. It has three category types:

Mind: Basically, Aura can increase the ability your mind can handle. For example, you can be quick to adapt and can use any weapons available. Telepathy, Telekinesis, flying and other types of mind powers. IQ’s are also considered to be related to Aura as well. Annabeth theorized that Aura: Mind can increase or decrease IQ levels of a person, making them more intelligent in certain types of fields.

Body: This type affects more on body types abilities such as superhuman strength; speed; instinct and more. It also involves powers such as transformations and breathing underwater. Annabeth theorized that the more powerful Body is, the weaker Mind will be as well. But, the person using this type will become very powerful, and may even rival gods.

Spirit: Now this one is not in Annabeth’s expertise, it’s more of a friend of hers, Carter and Sadie Kane. Spirit does not involve body or mind but rather having some control on Aura on the area around the person. A great example of this is pretty much that it’s magic itself. The Green Mist? Symbols and Names? Sorcery and Curses? These are all types of abilities that Spirit users can use. Carter and Sadie believe that the stronger the will of a person, the more control they have on Spirit. They even theorized that these abilities can manifest as beings if such will is powerful enough.

If you want a more simpler analogy of each type its like this:

Aura: Mind = Charles Xavier/NewTypes in the Gundam Series (bunch of whiny telepathic kids committing war crimes).

Aura: Body = Shapeshifters/Inhumans or Metahumans/Transformations similar to Dragon Ball (From Super Saiyan to Ultra Instinct).

Aura: Spirit = Magicians or Sorcerers/ Stand or Spirit Users.

It’s kind of similar to Nen abilities from Hunter X Hunter. But what Sam did was almost impossible for a mortal to achieve, not even gods can master it easily. Sam used the full potential of Aura: Body which shuts down her mind and her body just reacted by pure instinct. It was basically the Autonomous Ultra Instinct from Dragon Ball Super. It was shocking for Chiron because Demigods can only use a fraction of Aura due to us being part-mortals. A demigod can use a fraction of two types of Aura while regular mortals can only use one.

For example, a child of Athena mostly uses Body and Mind types of Aura. A psychic mortal has some power related to Mind and a bodybuilder has endurance thanks to Body. Spirit-Types are more difficult to locate since they're mostly magic wielders or Spirit users. Gods can activate Aura at ease while mortals can not.

So… yeah… Sam basically just became a classic Anime Main Character in a modern society with monsters and gods in the shadows. Like a mixture of Supernatural, Demon Slayer, Hunter X Hunter, etc. Unfortunately, you won’t hear about her progress or adventures in my stories. She’s just starting her journey and when she’s ready, she’ll tell you all about it afterwards. Which sucks because what she told me was mind blowing! There’s not enough time to comprehend what she went through! I guess we’ll see in the future. For now, back to the story.

Sorry for the short chapter. I couldn’t think of a good way to prolong the fight and I don’t want to start the next scene until the next chapter. But I hope you enjoyed it. Welcome to Night Two of Week 5! This time, our contestants talked about their prom experiences as Dancing With the Stars threw a prom in the middle of October!

We also had the return of the dance marathon. The remaining eleven couples first danced the hustle as the judges voted for which couple to remove one by one. Daniel and Britt were the first casualties, earning only one additional point. The longer the couple stayed in, the more points they got. After Wayne and Witney were tagged out, the couples switched to the lindyhop and could leave their assigned squares. In the end, it came down to Shangela and Gleb and Jessie and Alan. And Jessie and Alan won, winning eleven additional points as well as the titles of Prom Queen and King.

So who had the prom of a lifetime and who had one they'd rather forget? Let's check it out!

(Note: While the show combined the scores for the two nights, I did not so my standings will look different from the ones on the show).

Joseph and Daniella: I'm not very surprised Joseph ended up going home this week. We're now reaching the point where people are going to go home, no matter how much they've improved or how likeable they are. At least he gets to go out on his cha-cha to "Shut Up and Dance," which was a lot of fun and a high point for him.

Gabby and Val: Gabby got the season's first official perfect score! (Selma's score the night before did not count and was mostly symbolic). She danced a tango to "Good Girls Go Bad" and while Gabby is technically good, she still needs to bring more emotion into her routines. But now that she's reached the top, can she stay there or will someone dethrone her if she's not careful?

Charli and Mark: Charli did not tie with Gabby and Wayne this week! In fact, she came in right behind them before the marathon and her extra points pushed her up the leaderboard again. But she had a fun jive routine to "You Make My Dreams by Hall & Oates. She and Mark have an easy chemistry that really helps with their routines and Charli just keeps wowing everyone week after week.

Shangela and Gleb: Shangela has come into her own and has been declared an honorary fly girl after her cha-cha to "Waiting for Tonight." Shangela and Gleb had a a good mix of performance and technical skills for a wonderful routine. She may be the best positioned to possibly upend our front runners and could hoist the mirrorball trophy with Gleb if she continues to improve like she has.

Wayne and Witney: Wayne also got his first perfect score, the second of the competition, with his samba to "It Takes Two." The dance went well with the song and Wayne nailed the rather difficult dance. He had a lot of fun with it and continues to be the best male dancer in the competition. He could be the one hoisting the mirrorball and if he's not, he's likely going to be the one standing next to the couple hoisting it because I think he can make it all the way.

Jessie and Alan: This probably was Jessie's best dance but I do consider the Viennese waltz one of the easier dances. (With the caveat that I am not a dancer). And she is higher up since she was Prom Queen and got 11 points. She really shined in the hustle and the lindyhop so brava to her. Could this be the turning point for her? Only time will tell.

Heidi and Artem: Heidi did a jazz routine to "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and brought some early 90s to the ballroom. She did struggle a bit and had a few missteps but it was still fun to watch. Especially as Artem decided to dress as a nerd who got to dance with the cool girl. Interesting take but still a pretty good routine. And Heidi did last longer than her daughter in the dance marathon, so she gets to have some bragging rights this week.

Trevor and Emma: Trevor broke the bottom two streak! He was not in the bottom two and bounced back with a good jive to "Basket Case." He invoked his punk stage and looked very sexy, if you ask me. I hope this is good sign for Trevor and he'll continue to dance for a bit longer.

Jordin and Brandon: Jordin danced a contemporary dance to her own song, "No Air." She went to prom the same year she released the song and it played at her prom, with the spotlight on her. But her classmates were not impressed by it at all. So she got to reclaim that moment with a light but beautiful contemporary piece with Brandon. Jordin is still one of my favorites and I can't help but root for her, especially when she leads a singalong of her song in the skybox.

Daniel and Britt: I liked Daniel's cha-cha to "Sexyback" but it seems the judges disagreed with me. I hope he isn't losing the momentum. He really could be the dark horse instead of Trevor on the men's side but he needs to stay consistent. I love watching him dance and hope I can continue to do so for a bit longer.

Vinny and Koko: This was probably Vinny's best dance and his chance to go to prom since he didn't get to go to his. He and Koko danced to "You and Me" and looked very gracefully. But as I've noted, I find it hard to mess up the waltz unless you just stand there while your partner dances around you. But Vinny has been giving it his all, which is impressive. Does it mean he should win? Probably not. But he'll be interesting to watch until he's eliminated.

Our double show week is now over! Next time, Michael Buble will pop in as a guest judge while the remaining couples dance to his music.

Every August 13th, or whatever date Monday landed on that year, you would get up early and put on a pretty outfit to bring your best friend an iced coffee as class started for the day.

It was your favorite way to start the school season, even though you weren't a teacher. You were really an interior designer. It was something that paid well, to say the least.

Before you designed extravangant rooms and matched color palettes, you dabbled in so many things. It was one of the curses of your childhood and young adulthood, never knowing what you wanted to do with your life.

You spent a few years in college learning about nursing. You became a certified nurse and although it wasn’t the career you ended up pursuing, you kept your license renewed. In your free time, when the clients were no longer breathing down your neck, you got to do what you really loved — volunteer on the peds floor at Chicago Med.

At one point, you even studied education and child development. You loved kids and at one point, you thought that was what you wanted to do for the rest of your life. Clearly that didn’t work out, but your best friend continued on to become an elementary school teacher and that was the next best thing.

Your design skills even came in handy when you started volunteering the last 1/3 of your time to helping out at her underfunded school a couple years back. It was your third year decorating the kid’s classroom and it would end up being one of your best.

Now back to the first day of school, it was one of your favorite times of the year. You’d get to class bright eyed and bushy tailed, your hair curled and makeup done with two iced coffees in your hands. You could barely get the cups set down on the table before you were tackled in a hug by Anna, like she did every first day.

All summer, you’d hear her gush about her plans for her classroom, all the new decor and games she was planning for her students. It was something that never failed to melt your heart. This year, the plan was to make everything a colorful Disney theme and you always made it happen.

You didn’t typically interact with the kids much, other than observing from your corner of the room and doing your own thing, but this year there was a little girl who caught your eye. She reminded you so much of yourself. She had the softest brown curls and the sweetest green eyes.

She was quiet and liked to listen to directions. She didn't have too many friends, but like yourself as a child, she had a few classmates who looked after her and always invited her to play during recess.

She was good at reading and art, science too, but wasn't a big fan of math. You could just tell she was special. Well, all children are special, but there was something about this little girl that always made you turn your head, even her name — Danielle Ryann Halstead. She went by Dani.

Obviously it was a golden rule that teachers weren’t supposed to have class favorites. As the honorary classroom decorator though, it luckily didn’t matter.

It wasn’t long before your best friend started noticing how much you adored Danielle and she thought it was the cutest thing, how you'd look out for her.

Anna had taught this same class in pre-K and Kindergarten, but now they were her first grade class, so she was familiar with everyone's antics. Everyone's except Dani’s because this was her first year at Primrose Elementary.

She had told you about the little girl's background, about how her father, Jay, worked hard to provide for her, and how her mother wasn't ready for parenthood, so she wasn't in her life.

According to her father, Dani had an especially hard time every first day of school. Year after year, Danielle had watched moms and dads drop off their kids together and it was sad for her to see.

As the first bell rang that morning, all the kids were seated at their assigned desks as they chattered about their summers and caught up with each other after months apart. There were some questions from the more curious children if you and Miss Anna had boyfriends yet, which made you laugh, but the two of you cleared that up pretty quick.

Right by the door was a small one way window looking into the classroom where parents could watch their kids for a moment and make sure they were ok, before leaving for work. It was a lot like daycare and the administrators thought it would make the parents feel better about leaving their kids, without being seen.

Little did you know, Jay was watching for quite a while behind that window and he saw all the things you did that changed his daughter's life forever.

"Hey class! I'm Miss Anna and welcome back to the first day of school! You're all in First Grade, congratulations kiddos! I also want you all to give a warm welcome to Miss Y/N, I hope you all remember her. Like before, she's going to help out in class sometimes and make our room look really cool. She won't be here every day or even the whole day if she is here, but I want you to always be on your best behavior in case she does come, ok? She might bring you a treat if you do." Anna says, introducing the both of you. She grins at you and you wink at the class.

"Now, I know I've had most of you in class since pre-k, but we have a new friend this year who will be joining us. Danielle, would you come up here please and introduce yourself?" Miss Anna gestured to Dani to come join her at the front of the class.

You were sitting at the teacher's desk as you listened to Anna's intro, and the second you heard her ask Danielle to come up to the front, you knew it wasn't going to go well.

Your head immediately snaps to where Dani was sitting and you saw the uncertainty in her eyes. Little did you know that in the next room, her dad had the same reaction as you. He even almost came into the classroom, but Jay didn't want to embarrass his daughter on the first day of school.

The little girl walked up to Miss Anna ever so slowly and her voice was shaky as she began to speak.

"Hi, my name is Dani. I'm 5…" she begins to say, trailing off.

5? That was so young for first grade, you thought. It made sense though, if her birthday was right before the cut-off date. Danielle’s must be in late August.

“Dani, can you tell us what you like to do on the weekends?" Miss Anna asked, oblivious as ever to how scared the kid was of speaking in front of crowds.

Danielle mumbled her answers, saying how her dad would take her to spend time with her aunts and uncles a lot, and about how sometimes he had work so she'd go with him.

Shit hits the fan when a classmate chimes in with a question, asking about Dani's mom which she obviously wouldn't know how to answer.

You watch as Dani's brave face falters. You could see tears welling up in her eyes and Jay's heart broke seeing his daughter like that in front of the class. He was doing everything he could to stop himself from bursting into the room.

Without a second thought, you quickly stand up and take Dani's little hand. You lead her to Miss Anna's desk as you take your seat again, lifting the little girl into your lap. You turn the chair around so that you could shield her from the rest of the class in case she needed to cry.

You signal to Anna to move it along and your best friend quickly changes the subject, instructing the other kids to get out their workbooks so they could practice some basic skills.

Your voice is quiet as you spoke to Dani. It was so that you didn't disrupt Anna's class, but more so the other kids couldn't hear you. You knew how brutal they could be sometimes.

Not only that, but your suspicions were correct and the little girl started to cry the second she was tucked away from the class and in your arms. She looped her arms around your neck and sobbed quietly into your shirt. You rub her back soothingly and press a kiss to the side of her head.

"You're ok, sweetheart. You're safe." you murmur as you rock slightly from side to side. She buries her head deeper into your neck and you sit like that for a few minutes.

When she had calmed down and stopped crying, she sat up in your lap, rubbing her eyes and you wipe the tears off her cheeks.

"I'm sorry for crying, Miss Y/N" she sniffled, tears welling up again thinking she did something she wasn't supposed to.

"Oh sweet girl, you can cry if you need to, there's nothing wrong about that, ok?" you say, the little girl nodding in response.

She doesn't end up crying again, but she needed another hug, which you happily provided before sending Dani to rejoin the other kids.

The second he saw Dani return to her seat, no longer crying, her father let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding.

Jay had seen everything you did to calm his daughter down — the way you held her and stroked her hair. He smiled slightly to himself and turned to leave, but not before he stole another glance at the woman who went out of her way to protect his daughter.

For the next hour or so, as the kids worked quietly in their workbooks, you took measurements of the classroom and photos of the space you would be working with for the next couple months.

When you finished, it was about time for you to leave and Anna tells the class to say bye to Miss Y/N. You make sure to let all the kids know you'll be back here tomorrow morning.

Right before you open the door to leave, Danielle runs up to the front of the room, wrapping her arms around you. That right there melted your heart, and it melted Anna's as well.

You take Dani's arms from around you and hold her hands, kneeling in front of her. "You promise to come back tomorrow?" she asks you.

"I promise, Dani. You're going to be just fine. Miss Anna is the best." you say, giving the little girl a wink. You tuck another stray piece of hair behind her ear and stand up.

"Now go back to your seat, ok? Be good!" you whisper and she turns around to run back to her seat.

"Bye bestie." you grin at Anna before heading out the door.

When her father picked her up after the first day of school was over, Dani was smiling from ear to ear. She was so excited to see you the next morning and was going around the precinct telling everyone about you.

All Jay could think about was how his daughter had never, ever had a good first day of school before. She would always cry upon seeing him, so exhausted from the day that he would have to take the rest of the day off of work to take her home.

But today was different, she was happy and excited, and it was all because of Miss Y/N. Miss Anna was nice too, according to the little girl, but she just adored you.

Jay hadn't realized that you weren't a teacher. After seeing you the other day and how great you were with all the kids, he figured you were both teaching his daughter's class.

"You must be happy to have two nice teachers this year, huh, Dani-bug?" he joked at her.

"Silly daddy" she giggled. "Miss Y/N isn't my teacher. She's Miss Anna's best friend. And she helps Miss Anna put things on the walls and shows us cool stuff too whenever she comes to class, but she's not our teacher, daddy. She works someplace else." The little girl shakes her head, as if that was common knowledge.

"She's coming back tomorrow and I'm so excited," Dani squealed. "Can we go to school early tomorrow? I wanna see Miss Y/N before all the other kids get there."

Jay was shocked to say the least. For the past few years since his daughter had started school, she would always wait to go until the last minute, crying that she didn't want to go. It made him so late to work that his boss didn't even mention it anymore.

There was nothing Jay could do about it, Dani never made it easy on him. Now that she was asking to go early, maybe he could finally show up on time again.

"Sure, kiddo. See, school isn't so bad, right?" he said with a smile.

"Not this one. This one's ok. I hope I get Miss Anna next year too so Miss Y/N will come visit." Dani chirps. "Miss Anna had the other kids last year and last last year."

"I hope you get her too, I've never seen you so happy after class before." he said, thanking the universe for you.

Even the other cops at the district noticed a difference in Baby Halstead. Trudy looked at the kid like she grew horns and Kevin was even able to get a joke in with her, shocker.

The next morning, Danielle Ryann woke up before her dad. In her 5 years of living, she had never done that before. She forced him to get up right away, grabbing his hand and pulling him begrudgingly out of bed so he could take her to school. Jay wasn't sure he liked morning-person Dani.

She even picked out her favorite outfit to wear for you and has her dad do her hair extra special, which he struggled with massively.

Of course, Jay couldn't do it right and by the time they got to school, she basically jumped out of his car red faced with a scowl.

But when she saw you walk into the school, Miss Anna's coffee in hand, all that grumpiness faded away.

Jay noticed you too. He noticed the way your leather jacket hugged your curves and the way your above-knee dress exposed your slender calves.

"Daddy, there she is! Come on! You're so slow!" Dani pouted, tugging on his sleeve. He was pulled out of his thoughts by his daughter and she dragged his sluggish body into the building.

Yep, morning-person Dani was a pain in the ass.

You were cackling with Anna in the classroom when the little girl burst in with her father. The both of you turn towards the door when it opened and you grin when you saw Dani standing there.

She runs towards you and you open your arms, picking her up and setting her on your hip.

"Hi, Miss Danielle, how are you today, lovebug?" you ask, tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear.

"Good!" She chirped at you, wrapping her arms around your neck. Her face then twists into a frown. "Daddy messed up my hair."

"Oh no, I'm sure Daddy tried his best. It looks lovely, sweetheart." you coo, looking up at dad.

You have to do a double take when you see him, his striking green eyes were lighter than Dani's, almost blue. He had slight stubble on his face and short brown hair. He stood around 6 foot tall, looking so handsome in his black jacket and white t-shirt.

"No, it doesn't." she frowned, her bottom lip sticking out in the cutest little pout.

"I would never lie to you, Dani-bug. It really does look lovely. Do you want me to help you do it a different way?" you smile warmly at her. Danielle nods enthusiastically and you set her down on the ground in front of you, while you start taking out the small elastics from her hair.

"My daddy calls me that," she says, looking up at you. "Dani-bug. How did you know?"

"Oh, well, I always my kiddos 'lovebug' and your name is Dani, so I guess it just made sense." you laugh, making sure to give her father a small shrug.

It was probably weird that you guessed his daughter's nickname.

Jay wasn’t listening though. He didn't hear a word in that entire conversation because he was too distracted by the joy in your eyes when you braided his daughter's hair and your soft hands being careful not to hurt her.

You don't notice how much the little girl's father was admiring the way you spoke to his daughter, the way you interacted with her, and the way his daughter just lit up in a way that he had never seen before until she was around you.

You decide to braid Dani's hair into the cutest little french braid half up pigtails and you take out your phone to take a picture, showing it to the little girl since you didn't have a mirror.

"You like it?" you ask her and she nods vigorously before running to her dad to show him.

"It looks beautiful, baby," Jay says, and the sound of his voice gave you butterflies like no other. "Did you thank Miss Y/N for helping you?"

"Thank you, Miss Y/N!" she said, oh so sweetly.

"Of course, love."

"Thank you, really." Jay said, stepping forward. "Jay Halstead, I'm Danielle's dad." He held out a hand and you shook it.

"Y/N, so nice to meet you." you say with a smile.

He moves on to Anna and they share introductions as well.

"Hope it's ok that we're here a little early. This one insisted on coming early to see Miss Y/N and she's got me wrapped around her little finger."

"That is so sweet, yeah absolutely it's ok." Anna says. "Y/N/N's not here everyday, but when she is, Danielle is welcome to come by early if she would like to. I have prep in the morning so I wouldn't be able to entertain her myself, but with Y/N here, shouldn't be a problem."

You saw Jay almost every other morning from then on. Dani would come into class early and you would spend time with her. There was nothing you loved more.

5 months had gone by and Jay Halstead would bring you and Anna coffee sometimes in the morning before class as a token of appreciation. You thought it was the sweetest thing. You would talk to him about how Dani was doing in class and her favorite subjects, also about hobbies the two of you shared.

He would tell you about how he loved what you were doing with the place and how he wished all teachers brought in people like you to make classrooms more fun for the kids.

Could he be a more perfect man?

You found out from Anna what Jay did for a living, after she did some internet stalking in hopes to set the two of you up. It was surprising to say the least, but you were more worried about him getting hurt on the job. You were amazed at how well Jay had hidden his daughter away in the safety of school, where she would be with people he trusted.

You wondered if Jay was ever going to tell you what he did for a living, not that it mattered, but you were acquaintances now and on your way to becoming friends.

It just never came up in conversation for the most part, until one day, an unknown number flashed on your screen while you were putting together mood boards for a client's kitchen remodel.

You rarely answered from numbers you don't have already in your phone, but against your better judgement, something compelled you to answer this one.

"Hi, is this Y/N?" came the voice from the other side of the phone.

"Jay?" you ask incredulously, recognizing the voice, but wondering how he got your number. "How did you get my number?"

"Yeah, sorry about calling you out of the blue. Anna put her number and yours on one of the parent teacher conference information sheets from the beginning of the year." Jay said sheepishly.

"Oh, right! Duh." you said, facepalming yourself for not remembering that she did that every year. "Nobody's actually needed to call me for anything so I guess I forgot."

"You probably didn't just call for nothing though, right? What did you need? Shoot." you continue.

"Are you at the school today?" he asked.

"No, actually. I'm just at home working on a client's house." you said.

"Shoot… do you know if Anna's going to be able to stay after class for while?" You can hear the frustration in Jay's voice and you take a moment to think.

"Hmm, I believe she usually has other responsibilities after class lets out, but she also isn't allowed to leave until all the kids are picked up."

"Shit…" you hear Jay whisper under his breath. "Not sure if Anna's told you, but I'm a detective with the CPD and we've just caught a big case. It's all hands on deck here and there's literally nobody to keep an eye on Dani."

"Hey, it's ok. I totally get it. If you can't make pickup today, I can stop by the school and pick her up if that would help? I'll bring her by the precinct and stay with her until things get less crazy?" you suggest.

"Really? You'd be willing to do that?"

"Yeah, of course. Especially since Anna has places to be, I know that would help her out too. Just send Anna an email, you know, one of the official ones that we need for student pickups and we should be good." you say reassuringly. "I can stay with her as long as you need. Take your time!"

"Thank you so much Y/N, I'll do that now. You're a lifesaver!" he said.

"No problem, Jay. I'll see you later."

When you get to the school, it was just Danielle and Anna waiting for Jay to pick her up.

The little girl was sitting at her desk when you walk in, her eyes lighting up when she sees you.

"Y/N/N, what are you doing here?" Anna asked in surprise.

"Hey bestie, I'm here to pick Dani up. This little munchkin's dad called and he's going to be a couple hours. I had him send you an email about change of pickup. Go do your thing." you said, flicking your head over towards the door.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, absolutely. I got her. Dani and I are pals, aren't we?" you say, smiling at Dani who's beaming at you.

"Yeah!" she chirped, making Anna laugh.

"Alrighty, you two. I'll head out here. Kiddo, be good for Miss Y/N, ok?" Anna said, looking pointedly at Dani. "And girlie, keep me updated when her dad's off work?"

You give her a thumbs up, before ushering her out of the room.

"Come here, bug." you say with a big smile, opening up your arms for Danielle to run into. She gives you a tight hug and you have her grab her coat, helping her put it on. "We... are off to the police department where your dad works."

"Your dad is stuck on a case for a little while, so it's just going to be you and me until he finishes, ok?" you say, fixing the tangles in her hair. You hold out your hand and the little girl grabs it, swinging her arm happily.

Dani nods before you echoed you. "You and me, Miss Y/N."

"That's right, cutie. You and me." You nod, pressing a kiss to the side of Dani's head.

Oh yeah. You and Danielle were without a doubt two peas in a pod. You were her new favorite person and you couldn't complain. Lucky for you, her dad wasn't too bad either.
