TOUGH LIKE DANDELIONS, FINAL CHAPTER

Yeah, you read that right. The FINAL chapter is posted. The final chapter of one of my dearest fics is FINALLY done.

I hope you guys enjoy it, because I sure had (mostly) fun writing it. This fic has taught me a lot about myself as a writer and as a person, things I don't think I could have learned otherwise.

Plus, without it, I wouldn't have made the most amazing friends. BIG THANK YOU to @raekensarcher for helping beta this monster and keeping me going. Sometimes I'm feeling discouraged about the world, and then I just find myself thinking about that moment in @dduane's High Wizardry (third book in the Young Wizards series) where

[spoiler for a book you should most definitely read if you haven't already]

a human, in a last-ditch attempt to persuade the party of newborn sentient AI robots she built that organic life is worth preserving, provides a "data transfer" consisting of the whole of her life's experiences...

then despairs upon the realization that in so doing she has also exposed them to the pain that comes with life, the grief and fear and cruelty and hurting, and surely it's all over now, any chance of proving that "slowlife" is worth it has been irreparably lost...

but then, oh, but then.

“Now we see what these ‘heart’ things she gave us are for.” That was Gigo. Good kid, Dairine thought weakly, good baby. You tell ‘em.

“And what entropy does, and what it cannot touch, ever.” That was Beanpole, the silly looking thing—where did he get such a voice? “Not all the evils and deaths it makes possible can touch the joys that run through it. We will have those too.”

“We will not stop that joy,” said Monitor. “Not for a nanosecond.”

Chapter 14 - Even Broken Wolves Still Howl

So, lots of you like to joke that I’m a machine when it comes to writing, and I might be inclined to believe you now. Never expected this to be a thing. Posting two chapters in 24 hrs of each other. That feels like a fundamental impossibility, especially given the length of my chapters, but y’know, I don’t think I’m gonna look this particular gift horse in the mouth.

Many MANY thanks to @raekensarcher for being an awesome beta and co-author, because let’s face it that’s what you are at this point my dear. Would not be able to do this without them.

Here’s hoping you all like it. Fair warning, Theo goes through A LOT in this chapter because it’s him trying to go back to life as normal and, well, in short, that doesn’t work out too well. The end of the chapter is worth all the tears though, I promise.

HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABT AD ASTRA? I just finished De Terra and ahhhhh 😭😭😭 so good

DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED (i havent gotten to finish De Terra yet but its sooo good ) I swear i could write entire scientific paper length essays on each of these

ill try not to spoil anything for anyone else, but boo and bos interactions after the supernova made me super happy and was such a perfect way to start getting them to like each other. THEN WHEN THEY DID LIKE EACH OTHER OH MY GOD EVERYTHING MADE ME SO HAPPY ranboo getting jealous was *chefs kiss* and the dancing and tag and that moment that Boo referred to later as holding a star (a star? idk my memory is bad sorry) in his arms AND WHEN HE KILLED THAT GUY ohhh my goddddd fantastic!!!!

learning tommys real reason for not joining tuboo too was so much better than i imagined i was actually pretty glad about that.

eeeeeee ebut the whole scenes with ranboo and the raiders and how its continued in De Terra was so fantastic and such a great way to show his emotional and mental state about himself and the way we can see it change and get better and worse means so much and is such good writing!! i especially love how we can see him healing even when there a couple times where its at its worst and most of all i never see anyone else talk about being afraid of becoming the abuser and thats so real and important and im so so glad it was in there!!!

ok ok ok but De Terre was absolutely giving me life during finals the entire time they were on tubbos home planet and ranboo and dreams interactions and the birthdays party all make me so ecstatically happy. its been days and i still cant get midsummer and tubbos planet out if my head and i want to draw so much of it (so many things from both books actually) but im super afraid its gonna turn out gross cuz my art ability is so Not where it needs to be to match the beautiful images in my head for this fic.

anyway the characterization for Ranboo and tubbo and their relationship is astoundingly good and both fics went in my all time favorites collection without a second thought. i cried. several times each

i usually dont like science fiction at all but these fics are so fantastic and the primary reason im getting excited about scifi now
