Twelfth-cake and riddles on HMS Erebus
Tumblr media
A Twelfth Night celebration illustrated by Robert Seymour from The Book of Christmas (1836) by Thomas Kibble Hervey – note the cake in the left part of the picture and the cards in people's hands.
In his entry for January 6th, 1841 in his Antarctic-journal-slash-autobiography, Robert McCormick (who was surgeon on the Erebus on the Antarctic expedition) makes this reference to a Twelfth-cake eaten by the officers:
Wednesday, 6th. — Being Twelfth-night, all the officers took tea in the cabin with Captain Ross, and partook of a Twelfth-cake, which had been given him in a tin case, and was to have been opened on the 6th of January, 1840, but had been reserved for entering the ice. It was accompanied by the customary painted figures on paper and sugar, with enigmas to solve, which afforded us all some amusement and laughter; to aid which we had a glass of cherry brandy each.
(The age of the cake always surprised me a little, but apparently, according to the 19th century Cassell’s Dictionary of Cookery, fruit cake “will improve with keeping – indeed, confectioners do not use their cakes until they have been made some months; and if a cake is cut into soon after it is made it will crumble.” (x))
I had no idea that “painted figures on paper and sugar” were a customary part of the Twelfth-cake tradition, so I had a poke around the web and was delighted to learn that Twelfth-cakes came with various figurines for decoration. They were made from moulded sugar paste, with some depicting people, some not.
In the Every-Day Book of William Hone (1827), Twelfth-cakes are described as decorated with “Stars, castles, kings, cottages, dragons, trees, fish, palaces, cats, dogs, churches, lions, milkmaids, knights, serpents, and innumerable other forms, in snow-white confectionery, painted with variegated colours”.

An advertisement for “well executed Twelfth-Night characters”, 1842 (The Australian). Queen Victoria’s Twelfth-cake, 1849 (ILN).
The Twelfth-cakes themselves were generally large, domed, and heavy, full of nuts, dried fruits, and spices. Hone, again, calls them “Dark with citron and plums and heavy as gold”. (A recipe from 1802 is available here, and one from 1830 here – the latter promises a cake 12-14 inches across.)
You could also buy sets of cards with Twelfth Night figures and riddles on them, which were sold in packs. In the late 18th century, it was customary for the party to draw lots with the cards – and whichever character a person was assigned, they would have to play until midnight.

The resolution on these is only just about legible, but here's a close-up of four of them and their solutions from the sheet:

Transcriptions: From left to right: SIR OLIVER OGLE. Why is a lover like a gooseberry? BETRICE BOUQUET. When is a cheese most like college? CHARLES CUTEMDOWN. Why are Jews at a feast like a brewer? PATTY PRIMROSE. Why is a dandy like a haunch of venison?
Solutions: He is easily made a fool of. / When it is eaten. [Eton] / He brews [Hebrews] drink here. / He is a bit of a buck.

Top 5 Joe/David moments
1. The Lift
that shit made me. i saw that shit and heard sirens in my heart. it's so sublime, and it doubles as the perfect end to that episode And an excellent metaphor for web being allowed back into the fold. plus the look on web's face as he takes Lieb's hand...you know they fucked that night that's all i'm going to say.
2. Roadtrip Chat
i love two idiots making sounds at each other. lieb trying to broadcast his heterosexuality while also simultaneously being the gayest mo i've ever seen is a fact not lost on me, but the true star of that scene is the Look web gives him after he says he mostly just reads Flash Gordon and Dick Tracy lol he loves that bitch. also, what is he eating there?? cottage cheese?
3. Mountain Confrontation
very dark very sad friendship ending, but i do Love their back and forth and them challenging each other on what they are thinking as opposed to what they're saying and what they're feeling as opposed to what they're doing like, damn. it's deep, and it's dark, and i appreciate that we're not totally Sure what web is thinking during the scene. like he clearly cares about lieb and thinks the man himself is likely guilty, but he doesn't relent for better or for worse and i used to not like that but the more i revisit it i appreciate more what it does for them as Characters that they don't agree. it's divisive, but that's why i like that scene.
4. Patrol Switcheroo
the wink!! homosexual. read my post about why it matters.
5. Lieb Pulling a Face at Web
lol do you guys ever notice that after web enters OP with Jones and Jones congratulated malarkey on his non-promotion that web looks back at lieb like "you fucking lied to my face" and lieb gives him a Truly delighted look like a fucking asshole. it's so funny, but you gotta really be looking for it.

On the topic of cheese, do you have a favorite? Do you have different cheese for different moods? For different snacks?? Tell me about the cheese.
MORE CHEESE TALK!
Thank you for asking about cheese, and I am sorry in advance.
Favourite can change depending on my mood, but I'm a huge fan of Cambozola (usually always have one in my fridge), parmigiano is a must in every house and I can't have my eggs without it, gauda is a classic and should always be in stock, cottage cheese is great for a light snack, old amsterdam is always good, brie is another classic, and mozzarella of course.
There are many, many others that I love. There was this completely black cheese I bought about a month ago that was surprisingly citrucy and full of flavour, but I can't remember its name! And also one that had truffles in it, that one was insanely good!
One of the best meal experiences I've ever had was surpringly on a plane (granted, I was starving). It was a flight between L.A. and NYC, and for some reason, it had no meal included! So I bought the cheapest option cause I was starving and to my absolute surprise I was granted a small cheese platter with crackers and fruits and it was a delight! It may not have been the best quality, but for hungry me, it was everything! I think every place should offer a cheese platter as a meal, honestly.
Also, my aunt bought me a cheese platter (with small cheese knives) as a birthday gift last year, and it was the sweetest thing ever!

In 2023, Tel Aviv celebrated its first ever Jachnun Festival. Celebrity pastry chefs, jachnun joints and hungry crowds gathered at the hip settings of the city’s harbor, enjoying every possible version of the humble star of the party, the Shabbat Yemenite pastry. Alongside classic jachnun, visitors could try stuffed jachnun, spelt flour jachnun and even gluten-free ones. A stand offered Yemenite spicy sauce (zhug) tastings, and another featured a chili pepper eating competition. And to wash it all down, jachnun lovers were offered spiced black coffee, and fig and date arak liquor.
Jachnun is a slightly sweet rolled pastry, made of very thin layers of dough that are brushed with clarified butter. It is the Shabbat dish of the Jews of Aden, in today’s Yemen, and is baked overnight on Friday at a low temperature then eaten for breakfast on Saturday morning.
Israeli food writers wondered how Tel Aviv hasn’t had a jachnun festival until now, but my question is quite different: How did this unassuming pastry make its way from Aden to the heart of Israeli culinary consensus in just 75 short years? It stands there in pride alongside other classics like shakshuka, schnitzel, hummus and chicken soup. When and how did that happen?
First, to clarify, the famous Yemenite jachnun is actually from Aden, not Yemen. (Aden, which was the capital of South Yemen, became part of the country now known as Yemen only in 1990 after the unification of North Yemen and South Yemen.) The Adenite and Yemenite (mainly from around Sana’a) Jewish communities were separate and had different traditions.
Adenite and Yemenite Jews met for the first time in the Hashed (or Geula, “redemption” in Hebrew) transit camp arranged by The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in 1949 ahead of Operation Magic Carpet that brought them to Israel.
“In Hashed, with ingredients brought by The Joint, is where Yemenites first learned from the Adeni how to make jachnun,” said Moshe David, an Israeli of Adanite roots, a jeweler and author of the cookbook “Disappearing Flavors of the South.”
“More Yemenites learned how to make the dish in the camps in Israel,” where Yemenite and Adenite Jews lived together for years, he told me.
For hundreds of years Aden was a cosmopolitan strategic harbor city. It was ruled by the Ottomans and then by the British. Moshe believes that jachnun originated from an Ottoman pastry called gül böreği (rose-shaped borek). The pastry is made with yufka, a thin dough, thicker than phyllo, that’s used for many Turkish pastries, and is stretched to an almost transparent leaf, then spread with fat, just like jachnun. The original gül böreği, though, is stuffed with meat, while jachnun is only brushed with fat and then rolled.
In the past, jachnun was actually served as a sweet dish, topped with honey (and later, in Israel, with sugar).
“They used to serve it with halva or Turkish delight,” said David. “That’s what convinced me the origin is Ottoman. They would also serve it with quince jam,” a testament of the Adenite connection to the Silk Road and Persian cuisine.
In search for the origins of the dish, I found an unusual version of jachnun in two of Molly Bar-David’s books. Bar-David was a Jewish American who emigrated to Israel in the 1940s and documented Jewish dishes of immigrants that arrived in Israel from all across the Jewish Diaspora. She quotes a recipe for ghihinoon (Yemenite Cakes) from her Yemenite housekeeper, Margalit, who used to sprinkle chopped nuts, jam or cottage cheese on the dough before rolling it and baking.
I should add that the 1964 book is packed with condescending comments toward the many Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews mentioned in the book. Margalit (last name is not provided) was not spared. In general, this was in line with the way many Ashkenazi Jews at the time viewed Jews from Arab and Muslim countries.
Moshe thinks that Bar-David mistakenly mixed g’hin, “dough” in Yemenite, with ghihinoon. But when I asked a Yemenite-Israeli Facebook group about it, one member said she too spreads the dough with jam before baking. Still, most Yemenite Israelis in the group found that idea amusing, and jokingly suggested serving jachnun with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
Jachnun evolved into a savory course, and became nationwide phenomena, fairly recently, in the 1980s when a chain of Yemenite restaurants named Nargila (hookah) took Israel by storm. Nargila offered a limited menu, and jachnun and malawach were the stars. The pastries were served with grated tomatoes mixed with zhug, which became the standard for Yemenites and even for some Adenite Jews.
These days, jachnun is available in the freezer aisle at any supermarket in Israel, offering an inferior but easy option for those daunted by the labor-intense process of making the dish at home. On the weekends, fresh jachnun is readily available at pop-up roadside stands, cafes and even as part of the famous Israeli breakfast buffet in many hotels. This modest dish has officially become an Israeli staple.

Tonight's iteration of Leftover Kebabtallrik Delight underway!
This time, featuring less of the meat than usual because I already ate it, an onion sauteed for a little while with a pretty big zucchini that needed used up, a little frozen spinach, the chopped fresh parsley and mint left in the kebab container, some dill and chives because why not, grated odds and ends of cheese, and maybe 3/4 cup of cottage cheese that was left in that container. That scrambled egg made with cottage cheese was good enough that it definitely seemed worth a try in baked eggy cheesy too.
Don't see how this amalgamation could turn out too bad, tbqh. One way to find out!

As someone who loves sweets, what fine desserts exist across Tamriel? I’ll bet the bosmer get super creative! And the Khajiit are sure winners.
Aside from candies and sweets, desserts across Tamriel reflect local tastes and vary in complexity, flavour, and texture.
Altmer
Dessert in Summerset is always served cool or chilled, and is bound to be just the right amount of flavourful and refreshing. Take, for example, the famous sorbet cups served everywhere from street corners in Alinor to posh dining tables. Some of my favourite flavours are candied cherry blossom, jasmine with dark chocolate chips, and mint with lime zest.
Argonians
Nothing beats the popping "onde-onde" balls beloved by Black Marsh residents. These sticky "cakes" are made of glutinous rice, and have a liquid coconut or palm sugar centre, and are liberally coated in shredded coconut. While small and easy to eat in a bite, the glutinous rice does get quite filling, so four is usually enough for dessert!
Bosmer
Custard, in its most perfect, creamy, glorious, silky form, is one of the staples of Valenwood desserts. Made with sugar mammoth cream and eggs, these lightly sweet custards are served as is, chilled, or topped with bacon bits for some crunch. My personal favourite is the non-Green Pact version of a creme brulee, where custard is drizzled with moon sugar and blasted with a flame spell until caramelised and crisp on top.
Bretons
The humble chocolate pastry is probably every Breton's favourite everyday treat, and for good reason. Sweet dark chocolate enveloped by buttery puff pastry is oh so simple yet oh so decadent. Best served with a cup of tea or coffee.
Dunmer
A traditional Dark Elf dessert loved by all from Mournhold to Windhelm is a deliciously weird "cake" made from a layer of sweetened glutinous saltrice, and topped with an equally-sized firm layer of marshmerrow custard. Served chilled, these "kueh salat" are enormously addictive and satisfying. One of my favourite desserts.
Imperials
Every Imperial dessert is enjoyable in my book, especially those containing a drop or two of something boozy. Take, for example, the humble tiramisu of Bruma. Almond and coffee and all things flavourful make up this rich, mascarpone-based cake, made traditionally with almond biscuits soaked in amaretto as a base. Topped with a mound of glorious cocoa powder, it's a sumptuous delight of a dessert.
Khajiit
Miso...caramel? Umami fermented soy bean paste meets rich moon sugar caramel for the ultimate flavour fusion that I certainly wasn't prepared for! Big batches of Miso caramel are always on hand in any confectioner's kitchen. It goes in everything from ice cream and cheesecake to being mixed with dulce de leche for an outrageously decadent pudding. On that note, I'll have one miso caramel pudding with a miso caramel cream coffee, thanks.
Nords
Steamed treacle pudding gets my vote as one of Skyrim's best desserts. Dense and gooey, and sometimes even drenched in mead, these puddings are served hot at every tavern (rivalling Breton sticky toffee pudding). Topped with whipped cream, the rich treacle is a real treat when poured over and infused into the rich butter pudding!
Orcs
Sweet potato pudding is a set custard infused with lots and lots of roasted sweet potatoes! Mashed and mixed into a plain creme patissiere, then swirled through with a spiced caramel swirl, these ganache-like treats are simply to die for (and you just might, if you try nick this off an Orc).
Redguards
Cardamom and saffron are ubiquitous in Redguard cooking, and this includes desserts. "Rasmalai", a dish made from fried, spongy patties of cottage cheese soaked in cardamon syrup, floating in a thick and sweet saffron and cardamom milk sauce. While it sounds a bit odd, rasmalai is a true treat for the senses, and is a rich and flavourful end to any meal.

How to teach your vampire boyfriend consent 101
@dancinginsepia This is for you
Tumblr media
“My sweet blossom...” he murmured seductively, lips an inch from the blonde’s ear, not far from that delicious neck, “would you mind if I bite you?”
The other boy hesitated, breath hitching in his throat, and he whispered weakly; “Maybe we could get to know each other first?”
His voice sounded so innocent that Viktor chuckled, shaking his head before loosening his vice grip on the blonde. Fine, he’d humour somebody so pretty and sweet-smelling.
“My name is Viktor, darling~” he smirked, looking the blonde up and down slowly, admiring the peeks of beautiful, pale blood-filled skin where the other’s garments did not quite cover. “And you?”
“Angel,” the blonde replied quietly, a soft blush flooding his cheeks, “my name is Angel.”
Angel. As soon as the words came out of the boy’s mouth, Viktor immediately understood why he was called Angel. He certainly resembled one, ethereal features seeming to be sculpted from light itself, beautiful, unblemished skin painted by the hands of gods, hair spun from the softest of golds. A pretty little angel was his soulmate. He could get to call an angel his.
“Angel,” Vik’s voice was a soft breath, “what a lovely scent you have, my blossom…”
Angel’s cheeks flooded with more red, downcast eyes sending light shimmering through his pale lashes. “Thank you, Viktor.”
That was when something clicked inside Vik. Hearing the breathtakingly gorgeous young man in front speak, perfectly plump lips parting to utter his name… something just made sense. And right there, he could picture it all.
Angel drifting off to sleep in his arms, the stars sparkling over them. Being beside Angel when he woke every single morning for the rest of his life, golden hair outspread on a pillow, the locks sparkling in the slivers of sunlight coming in from the window. Angel giggling, taking Viktor’s hand, dressed in white, pulling him towards the altar. Angel, surrounded by beautiful lavender blooms, covered in the same smell that emanated from his sweet skin, ruby red lips quirked into a soft smile, beckoning him closer. It was all Angel, all this delightful man… and something inside Viktor softened.
“I… I have some wine, cheese, and fresh milk bread in the kitchen… we could eat some in the field?” Angel offered, quite shyly at the lone fact he was still held in a vampire’s arms.
Viktor nodded immediately, too excited to bring up the fact that he couldn’t exactly digest human food.
Angel grinned and Vik swore the sun shone brighter. Those gorgeous eyes folded up into little crescents when he smiled, pearlescent teeth earlier hidden between red lips revealed. The blonde carefully squeezed out of Viktor’s grip before grabbing his hand and leading him back out the front door, not unlike his fantasy of their wedding, with Angel looking heavenly as he pulled Viktor along, around his quaint little cottage and into the lush green field behind.

synopsis: Ritsuka is not very good at talking about his emotions and feelings, but his singing expresses more than anything else.
# tags: scenario; current relationship; sing a song; slice of life; soft romance; fluff; sfw
includes: gender neutral reader ft. ritsuka uenoyama {given}
my inspiration, song: “dobrze, że cię mam” by kortez
Tumblr media
The studio where Ritsuka and the band had practiced for a long time was empty at the moment; you couldn’t hear Akihiko’s strange jokes, you didn’t feel the calm presence of Mafuyu, you didn’t see Nakayama who always well dressed. Instead it was just you and your boyfriend rehearsing new songs, getting into conversation with you from time to time. So you sat across from him, carefully watching him play the electric guitar. Sometimes you asked the boy a quick question about music, and sometimes you asked him out of curiosity if he was tired or hungry – in case of the latter need, you wanted to take out the bento prepared for the two of you and a paper bag with sweet buns with cottage cheese that you bought on your way to meet a high school student.
However, Ritsuka didn’t seem to be tired or hungry right now. His face was calm, his eyes was focused, his heart beating at a steady rate and his breathing was calm. He looked really good, you could also say, really manly. You liked the sight and you were really delighted that Uenoyama became interested in you more than half a year ago and was the first to ask about being in a relationship.
“... What are you thinking about, Y/N?” A man’s voice pulled you out of a small trance, and you only blinked your eyes a few times, smiling at the young man.
“About you, about us.” You answered truthfully, which made the boy only chuckle.
“I see.”
Ritsuka was a really cute boy; he had so many qualities you loved; he kept making your face blush warmly and your belly tingle pleasantly. Your boyfriend was always honest and helpful, he was always there when you needed support or conversation. He never got angry and instead carefully explained your mistakes and ill-considered decisions. He was intelligent, talented, conscientious, and always tried to make your relationship flourish. He didn’t have much savings, but he loved to buy you a flower or your favorite cookies from time to time.
“... I don’t like changes and I don’t know anything about colors...” A calm song echoed through the small room, and you lifted your head to look at the seventeen-year-old. His soft, but also uncertain voice was really penetrating. “It’s good that I have you. Do everything as you want... You know me well enough – I wish it stayed as it is.” He added a little more confidently, and you immediately straightened your back.
Your loving gaze was now focused only on his parted lips, small nose, shining eyes, ruddy cheeks and sometimes fingers holding a guitar.
“Breath, hair, touch at night. And how do you know so much? Do you stray or do you have a goal?” He smiled hesitantly, and you returned the smile, making the teenager gain confidence. “Where you go, take me along. The only thing I want is to have a view on your day...” He finished singing and the guitar stopped. “I don’t have the whole song written down yet, but I was thinking of you when I wrote it...” He admitted, and you, touched by his words, only moved closer to the black-haired male, inhaling his sweet scent.
Your hearts were beating in unison now.

Bengal is the home of Rosogolla, also known as Rasgulla, an airy and light Indian delicacy. Picture tender, bouncy chhena (cottage cheese) balls dipped in a fragrant sugar syrup flavored with cardamom. Every mouthful is a harmonious blend of sweetness, providing a pleasant conclusion to any meal or an ideal indulgence on its own.
A BITE OF HISTORY
There is a friendly discussion regarding the precise origin of rosogolla. The legend behind rosogolla credits Nobin Chandra Das, a visionary Bengali confectioner from the late 1800s, was the inspiration behind it. With simply chhena, sugar, and a dash of imagination, he allegedly set out to make a dessert that embodied the spirit of Bengali cuisine: light, sweet, and incredibly delicious.
THE DELICATE ART OF ROSOGOLLA MAKING
Crafting rosogolla is a delicate art that demands skill. Before the chhena is formed into tiny balls, it is painstakingly kneaded till smooth. Then, to get just the right amount of doneness without becoming mushy, these tiny spheres are slowly cooked in a cardamom-infused sugar syrup. The key lies in achieving perfect doneness – cooked through yet retaining a soft, fluffy texture.
MORE THAN JUST A DESERT !
Rosogolla is more than just a dessert. It represents happiness, festivity, and quality time spent with others. A tray of these sugary delights is a must-have for every Bengali celebration, be it a wedding, holiday, or just an appreciation of life's small pleasures. Eternal Lovers
Character: Isaac Prompts: Masks that come off only once you meet your soulmate | Masks which represent one’s true self
A little something for dear @cheese-ception (the Ikemen Flash Exchange (@flash-exchange) 🌙
Once upon a time there was a town on the very top of Milky Mount. Snow white trees surrounded its walls like a giant seashell full of pearls and diamonds. The sky there was painted in deep sapphire, and the emerald grass held the scent of heather and cornflowers. But it wasn't nature that the place was famous for. The most intriguing part of the town was its citizens as each and everyone of them wore a mask that was a reflection of their own soul.
Tumblr media
You’d never been able to see your mask in the mirror. Yet, something inside you whispered that it wasn’t that awful. Some people, indeed, avoided you, covering their eyes in a hurry. Others grumbled in displeasure, crossing the street to hide in the shadows. Most of them, however, welcomed you with a sweet smile. You did the same, listening to their complaints, calming, caring, helping. Every morning you woke up the citizens, ringing the bells of the Golden Tower. Every day you harvested wheat and warmed up water in the rivers, watched after sunflower fields soaked with yellow. And every evening you went back home, getting rare words of gratitude from the locals who seemed no more interested in you. It was okay. You still loved them deeply for they were your only family. But the night fell, and it wasn't gentle. The feeling of eternal loneliness came all over you again and again, reminding you how those people praised you only for as long as they needed something from you. There wasn't a single soul that appreciated you for just the way you were.
Until one day.
A mysterious astronomer settled down in the town. You saw him once or twice from behind. His soft cherry hair resembled the summer sky before the sunset, the skin was more pale than the crescent moon. He used to walk with a slouch, always so fast and anxious. It was strange, almost cute, and made you chuckle in delight. One evening you saw his slender figure in the apple orchard.
It's already so dark and chilly. He will catch a cold if sitting here like this.
You coughed loudly and deliberately stepped on a withered branch to introduce your presence, but the astronomer was sleeping peacefully, leaning his back against the apple tree. Sneaking from behind, you gently touched the man’s shoulder. When it didn't work as well, you hugged the tree trunk and started to shake it vigorously.
“Open your eyes, sleepyhead! Or you may gravitate to the ground.”
One red apple fell from the tree and landed on the unlucky astronomer’s head. He jumped on his feet, moaning in pain.
“For God’s sake, my name is Isaac, not a ‘sleepyhead’! And I wasn't going to gravi…W-what? What did you —”
Isaac turned to you in haste and caught nothing but the haze of your laughter. He took the red fruit from the ground and stared at it both in disbelief and excitement.
That was how your strange friendship began to bloom. You never met face to face but could feel when one of you was near the other. Every day you brought freshly baked pies and hot tea to Isaac’s door, and every evening you lit colorful lanterns on the streets in case he felt the need to study late at night. Isaac, in his turn, obediently followed you after the growing dusk, protecting you from the dangers waiting in the darkening allies. And sent you baskets full of red apples where you sometimes could find little hedgehog, Harry, always sleepy and clumsy, just like his owner.
Tumblr media
It was a month after your first meeting. The sapphire sky was covered with pearl clouds, and little drops of rain were hitting the roofs like a wooden mallet touching a xylophone, filling the streets with the crystal music of autumn.
You wanted to hide from the weather in your cozy cottage when you saw a familiar basket full of apples at the doorsteps. As usual, a spiny friend of yours was sobbing right there, surrounded by red juicy apples.
“Harry, you little wretch! Isaac will get worried when he finds out you’re not with him.”
Suddenly, noisy sounds of someone’s sharp breath came from behind, giving you chills. After all, it was dark, it was rainy, and nobody was there to save you except your own self. So, you raised your hand in defense, turning back and hitting the stranger’s face.
The person most certainly didn't expect that from you and after a few seconds of desperate attempts to restore the balance dropped on the wet grass. The light from lanterns revealed his soft cherry curls that were previously hidden behind the hood.
“I’m so sorry” – you ran towards the man, watching ruefully how the dirt painted circles on his white shirt – “if only I could help–”
“As you always do. Even though they don't deserve your kindness.” He’d been avoiding your gaze all those days, but now his eyes, tender and clever, were studying your face through the slits of the mask. His mask. The most beautiful creation you’d ever seen.
Probably, your intense gaze embarrassed Isaac because he quickly turned away.
“I-I didn't mean to scare you!  Harry was nowhere to be seen, so I decided to go and search for him,” he mumbled softly.
“It's alright!”, you were quick to assure him. ”I just didn't expect to see you here…talking.”
Your words surely didn't help. He lowered his gaze and looked even more embarrassed than ever. Probably, you thought, it was your first and last conversation. But before you could think of any way to smooth over the awkwardness of the situation, Isaac started speaking again.
“I wanted to say something but never had enough courage to approach you. This town, it’s…I’ve felt so lonely here. They all think that I’m strange and avoid me. You’re the only one who appreciates me for what I am. Before meeting with you I struggled to find my destiny, but your light and warmth showed me the way. You make me feel safe and loved. I…I want to give something to you in return. I–”
He was in desperate need of air, cheeks crimson red as if from fever.
“…I just want t-to be with you.”
“Nobody cares for me in this town. They’ll miss me only when they lose me. You’re the only one who values and guides me through the darkness. I just want to be with you, Isaac.”
You reached out to each other, sharing the same sky, the same pain and the same love. The moment your hands met, two masks dropped on the ground. One sparkled with the abiding faith and loyalty of the elegant Moon. And the other one captured the dazzling beauty and burning passion of the shining Sun.

Note
I have soft food ideas! Tw British foods, I'll do my best to think of the alternatives
Sweet:
Jelly/jello - just suck it through your teeth and swallow, amazing stuff. Can eat lots since most are low calorie or even zero sugar.
Angel delight/mousse/pudding, semolina, creme caramels, custards, rice pudding - no chewing required, light and bubbly.
Ice cream, gelatos and sorbet, ice lollies, milkshakes, slushies etc - amazing but might not be appropriate if you have sensitive mouth/teeth
Juices and smoothies - yummy but avoid citrus if you've recently had oral surgery!
Porridge/oatmeal, baked oats, overnight oats, chia seed pudding etc - the super fine versions (readybrek) of porridge are great and don't need any chewing at all. If too hot, wait too cool or add a splash of milk. I like a spoonful of Nutella in to make chocolatey.
Yogurt - amazing, cool and refreshing. Avoid the fun yogurts with extra bits like granola or crunchy inclusions since they'll need chewing. Also consider soft cheeses/no base cheesecakes
Soft fruits - again avoid citrus, try cook it or mash it or something just to make it softer. Tinned fruit is always super soft. Peaches and ice cream is such an elite combo. Maybe applesauce?
Savory
Soups, broths and maybe stews - super tender veggies, overcooked or super soft noodles and shredded meats will fine for a few days and should be soft but hearty enough. If not, puree or blend. Maybe soak some bread in!
Lentils - great at absorbing liquid and become nice and aoft
Mashed potatoes - love love love these, cheesy or garlicky or covered in gravy, just so wow. Might manage a baked potato without the skin and then it's just a vessel for good stuff
Rice, risotto - plain or topped with egg or some soft fish (tinned is easy). Risotto is great because you can add yummy stuff to it
FINELY ground meat - make a Bolognese and make sure your meat is ground finely. Make a curry with finely cut soft/pureed veggies. Make a chili. Once you feel a bit braver, sloppy Joes or something
Dips - guac or hummus or whatever, a spoon will do instead of veggies/chips etc
Cottage/shepherds/fisherman's pie - soft fish or meat in a sauce covered in mashed potato and baked in the oven. No teeth needed, but a hearty real meal.
Cauliflower cheese - parboil the cauliflower like my gran does (nuke it) and then cover in cheesesauce and bake it.
Omelettes - these might be touch and go but could satisfy you enough that you wont miss scrambled eggs and toast
Pastina - cute little pasta shapes! Do all sorts with it but jar of generic pasta sauce works in a pinch.
I'm sure there's plenty of local cuisine and regional foods that are soft too that I have no idea about.
For anyone who needs it then, lol. Thanks anon.
