Every age has its own outlook. It is specially good at seeing certain truths and specially liable to make certain mistakes. We all, therefore, need the books that will correct the characteristic mistakes of our own period. And that means the old books.
All contemporary writers share to some extent the contemporary outlook—even those, like myself, who seem most opposed to it. Nothing strikes me more when I read the controversies of past ages than the fact that both sides were usually assuming without question a good deal which we should now absolutely deny. They thought that they were as completely opposed as two sides could be, but in fact they were all the time secretly united—united with each other and against earlier and later ages—by a great mass of common assumptions.
We may be sure that the characteristic blindness of the twentieth century—the blindness about which posterity will ask, “But how could they have thought that?”—lies where we have never suspected it, and concerns something about which there is untroubled agreement between Hitler and President Roosevelt or between Mr. H. G. Wells and Karl Barth. None of us can fully escape this blindness, but we shall certainly increase it, and weaken our guard against it, if we read only modern books. Where they are true they will give us truths which we half knew already. Where they are false they will aggravate the error with which we are already dangerously ill.
The only palliative is to keep the clean sea breeze of the centuries blowing through our minds, and this can be done only by reading old books. Not, of course, that there is any magic about the past. People were no cleverer then than they are now; they made as many mistakes as we. But not the same mistakes. They will not flatter us in the errors we are already committing; and their own errors, being now open and palpable, will not endanger us. Two heads are better than one, not because either is infallible, but because they are unlikely to go wrong in the same direction. To be sure, the books of the future would be just as good a corrective as the books of the past, but unfortunately we cannot get at them.
— C. S. Lewis, On The Reading of Old Books, introduction to Athanasius' On the Incarnation

Even Better News Everyone!!
The Kingdom of Heaven has populated and is NOW AVAILABLE for pre-order on Barnes & Noble dot com!
Tumblr media
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-kingdom-of-heaven-evelyn-m-lewis/1143100414?ean=9781960686008
When you order here, the book will be immediately printed and merely wait until the publication date to ship to you. Additionally, since you don’t have to buy a book from Amazon in order to review it on Amazon, it will still be possible to leave reviews on Amazon if the book is ordered through Barnes & Noble. I’m aiming to get 50 reviews on Amazon within 1 month of the publication date.
(Note - unlike my Inkshares pre-order campaign, this one is NOT a crowd funding project and is not conditional. The book is real!)

Is there an Orthodox Christian book club on Tumblr yet? If not, please reply if you’d like to start one!
Reply with your favorite Orthodox book / what you’re currently reading / what you’re planning on reading next!
My current favorite Orthodox book is My Elder Joseph the Hesychast. I’m currently reading St. Paisios the Athonite’s biography but I plan on reading St. Silouan the Athonite’s book next!

Read my mom's books
She is writing Christian (Presence of Christianity; Christians; no profanity) vampire books. I enjoy them. Some vampire lore from here:
Vampires don't have to kill people. They can hypnotize people, take some blood, and seal the bite wounds back up. Young vampires are a lot of trouble. They are weaker and have to drink blood more often. As they age they don't need as much blood; sunlight hurts them less. At around 80 years of age, they develop a power, such as telekinesis, illusions, fire starting by thinking it, super speed, strength; jumps, invisibility, mind reading, intangibility, perfect memory, turning into an animal besides a bat, etc. The power grows stronger with age. The power they get usually has something to do with something they want during their mortal life. Yes, they can turn into bats but they are more easily killed and can't use their power during this. Are hurt by garlic; can break and enter homes without permission. During the day they like to sleep upside down to make their blood circulate a bit, by locking their ankle joints hanging on poles. Vampires usually live in small territorial groups. They can interact with humans by using makeup to cover their pale skin, and by learning how to open their mouths without revealing their fangs. A new vampire is made by forcing a human to drink some of their blood. A stake in the heart does not kill them. It only injures them and makes them unconscious. One has to drag the vampire into the sunlight to burn it up to kill them. An injured vampire is extra dangerous because they can't control their hunger as well.
There are multiple series with a few books each, following different vampires. Sometimes they interact with another. The main one has the most books, and each one in this series includes them having an animal companion for each book. She's working on a series finale that brings everyone we've been following in the multiple series together.
The cover graphics on each book are home made on the computer, so they don't look the most professional, and we don't seem to be that good at thinking up title names. But I like the stories.
There is fun violence with different vampires and vampire hunters,
and also some humor scattered about. A silly thing in one book is a vampire that works as a firefighter and discovered he can go outside during the day if he wears the fire suit. So he just wears it all day and takes naps throughout the day. His co-workers think he's weird. Another is unintentional, but there's a vampire named Lola with super jump powers, and my mom is unaware of Lola Bunny. There's a fight with an obnoxious sound illusion vampire that used to be a court jester - my idea. Something that sounds unhinged out of context, is telling a doggy in That Voice, "are you ready to go for a ride down the drain?" This vampire has the power to turn himself and others into water and move around that way, and needed to escape with his dog down a sink drain. Another from the same book, which is not out yet; I'm helping go over it, is the same vampire telling a vampire hunter that his friends have already been taken care of, so he runs terrified to go find them, and the other vampire just, called the police on the people trying to kill them. The police don't know they are vampires. Such a dumb way to stop vampire hunters, I love it.

The Kingdom of Heaven Official Book Launch
Tumblr media
Keepers of the Gate's first book launches today:
The Kingdom of Heaven by Evelyn M. Lewis
This book is told by Alex, a woman who grew up in the Settlement, a walled city that contains the world's entire population. She is an agent for Dynamic National Technologies, Incorporated, and believes in their mission: in order for humanity to survive, all people must be subject to the will of the Settlement. But when she's sent on a mission outside the Wall to infiltrate a mysterious religious cult, what she finds will challenge everything she believes to be true.
Meet also: Cam, Alex's hot-headed and reckless "mentor" who knows more than he's letting on, and Dana Morris-Fletcher, the icy woman who administrates DYNTEC. What are they hiding? What is the truth behind the Settlement?
Find out in The Kingdom of Heaven: Available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and as of today available for instant purchase as an ebook!
Keepers of the Gate works to bring you books by independent Christian authors, written from a Christian worldview. We aim to bring down high publishing barriers and open the gate to authors who change and challenge the cultural narrative, while creating a safeguarded corner for media with Christian values. The Kingdom of Heaven is an adult fiction book and is not YA or family/children's media, containing some violence and language content. We would consider the book as suitable for Christian adults.

Impacting Lives for Christ: Serving for His Glory and the Edification of Others
Christian service and ministry should glorify God and edify others. Glorifying God means our words and actions reflect positively on Him (1 Cor 10:31). Edifying others means we help and encourage them in their growth and development as Christian disciples (1 Th 5:11). Because we cannot live what we do not know, it’s imperative that we study the Bible for ourselves (2 Tim 2:15), and also benefit…
