Baldwin iv x fem!reader
-= imagine helping the leper king fall asleep =-
warning: leprosy ig
ˋˏ✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
Baldwin IV, King of Jerusalem, retired to his chambers, utterly exhausted. The weight of ruling his kingdom was heavy on his shoulders, and his leprosy draining his energy away, leaving him pained and sore. His eyes were heavy, and he could feel his body weakening each passing moment.
As he entered the room, his queen, Y/N, rose from the bed to greet him, and helped ease him down onto the bed. She could see the exhaustion etched into his face, and without a word lifted of his mask. Gazing at him with an adoring stare she gently caressed his mottled face, careful not to draw out further pain.
She set to work cleaning his wounds. Baldwin let out a deep sigh of relief as she gently tended to his abused and broken body, applying salves and herbs. He felt a warmth spread through his chest as he was treated with an affection he never believed he deserved. As a leper he should left in the dregs of the world with the rest of the poor and pitiful outcasts of the world, should he not? But no, in this court he was loved. He was doted soon and cherished by the girl he got to call his queen.
As she worked, Baldwin felt his eyes closing, and before he knew it, he had drifted off to sleep against her soft chest. Feeling it rising a falling gently beneath him with each breath. He savoured this rare moment of peaceful life with her.He felt her hand stroking his hair, and he knew that he was safe and loved. It had been so long since he had truly slept.
Just as he finally drifted into a deep sleep, a guard burst into the room. Y/N could see the urgency in his eyes, but more importantly she knew that Baldwin had not slept in days. Whatever this was could wait .She gently shushed the guard and motioned for him to leave the room without waking her sleeping king.
The guard hesitated for a moment, but Y/N was firm, directing a piercing glare at him. She would not let anyone disturb Baldwin's much needed rest. The guard nodded in understanding and silently slipped out of the room, leaving Baldwin in peaceful slumber.
He would never show his hardships during the day- remaining stoic and strong, however here in her arms he was vulnerable and acquiescent as a lamb.
As the first light of dawn began to filter through the window, Baldwin began to stir. He opened his eyes and looked up at Y/N, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. She gazed down at him with her hazy eyes , only showing pure adoration.
"Thank you, my love," he said, his horse voice barely above a whisper.
Y/N smiled down at him, her heart aching. "Of course my king”.

Baldwin’s wife sometimes rests her head on his shoulder or holds his hand to give him some kind of physical affection but she isn’t aware that even that hurts him but he doesn’t say anything because the pain is totally worth it for him.
Tumblr media
Baldwin yearns for the touch of his wife and to experience the pleasures of feeling their skin melt together. Yet his condition can make it feel unbearable for even the bandages wrapped around his limbs. He can see the way her eyes travel over the silver mask he wears, particularly at the intricately carved lips. Baldwin wants to kiss her just as much as she wants to do the same to him. Of course Baldwin’s wife would know before their marriage that any physical intimacy would be impossible, yet there are small graces when Baldwin’s body does not feel as stiff that day. His movements, while still painful, can be tolerated enough where he can walk just around the palace to enjoy the sunlight or see his people. However, instead of attending counsel duties with his health like a good king would do, he remains laid on his pillowed bed with his beloved wife. Her head lightly placed on his chest and one hand intertwined with his own gloved hand. He just could not bear to see the disappointment in his wife’s eyes every time she would give him the smallest feather-like touch and feel him flinch underneath. It was his idea for them to bask in this rare moment while his health would allow for little time remaining they have together. Baldwin will not dare to let her know that even her head on his chest feels suffocating to his lungs. The nerve damage to his hands prevents him from enjoying her warmth or even feeling her hand at all. The royal physicians can see how much their king is in pain from this intimate moment between the two but they refrain from speaking up in fear of Baldwin’s scold. They know he will be up most of the night needing around the clock care to pay the price for his small selfish act.

Official announcement post forthcoming, but I just wanted to advance out the word that The Kingdom of Heaven will be entered in the first week of January in to the Realm Makers' awards (or the Realmy's) for the best Christian fiction of 2023, in the Science Fiction category.
There are 2 awards per category, the Judges' Pick, and the Reader's Choice award. For the Judge's Pick, I can enter the book myself for a small fee.
For the Reader's Choice award, the book would have to be nominated by a reader/readers between April 1st and 15th, and then win in voting between May 1 and 15th.

THE TREASURE AND GOODLY PEARL
Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in the field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

By now, everyone here must know that I'm weird but what you don't know is that I'm a nerd about history and mythology who enjoys watching historical series/movies.
And I had free time yesterday and came face to face with the movie called "The Kingdom of Heaven"... And guess who peeked my interest?👉👈
Tumblr media
I'm so tempted to write something for him, like yeah the mask is cool and after some research, he was cool in real life too but I believe the fandom is already dead... Is there anyone who's into historical fanfictions?

I posted on both Goodreads and Amazon, but here, too - my review of @evelynmlewis' excellent book The Kingdom of Heaven. It has become my favourite book of the year so far, with engaging characters, beautifully paced plot and gorgeous setting.
It's the best Christian dystopia I have ever read.
I intend to write a more comprehensive review later, but ultimately I read this book in two sittings, so it's somewhat blurred in my mind. I started reading it without particularly high expectations: after the first couple of chapters I was completely hooked. Evelyn M. Lewis does an excellent job of showing different characters, all with flaws and strengths. Alex is such a good character, managing to be honest about how she feels without being unlikeable as a result. There were many times I both laughed and cried at different places. Without putting spoilers in as far as possible, I will say that the significant event that surrounded one of the children in the story was handled excellently well, neither over the top nor pushed out of the way, especially as it wasn't the focus.
Throughout the climax, and the way it seemed to be ending, I was screaming in my head for the obvious solution to be carried out (and then the ending was pulled off even better than I expected). The character who grew on me the most was definitely Cam; I didn't like him very much at the start, but by the end I liked him very much.
Anyway, this book is currently my favourite read of the entire year, and I look forward to eventually acquiring the paperback and rereading. I eagerly await any future books she publishes.
Note that there is some profanity, so it may not be suitable to recommend to teenagers, depending on comfort levels.

We need to grasp the truth that faith is active, instead of passive. Faith is not about sitting still and not doing anything. The Bible clearly says that faith without works is dead. Faith is the language of God’s Kingdom. [It is what enables us to communicate with God, Who] responds [readily] towards our faith, [for] He longs to relate with us as a Father relates to His children.

The Kingdom of Heaven Official Book Launch
Tumblr media
Keepers of the Gate's first book launches today:
The Kingdom of Heaven by Evelyn M. Lewis
This book is told by Alex, a woman who grew up in the Settlement, a walled city that contains the world's entire population. She is an agent for Dynamic National Technologies, Incorporated, and believes in their mission: in order for humanity to survive, all people must be subject to the will of the Settlement. But when she's sent on a mission outside the Wall to infiltrate a mysterious religious cult, what she finds will challenge everything she believes to be true.
Meet also: Cam, Alex's hot-headed and reckless "mentor" who knows more than he's letting on, and Dana Morris-Fletcher, the icy woman who administrates DYNTEC. What are they hiding? What is the truth behind the Settlement?
Find out in The Kingdom of Heaven: Available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and as of today available for instant purchase as an ebook!
Keepers of the Gate works to bring you books by independent Christian authors, written from a Christian worldview. We aim to bring down high publishing barriers and open the gate to authors who change and challenge the cultural narrative, while creating a safeguarded corner for media with Christian values. The Kingdom of Heaven is an adult fiction book and is not YA or family/children's media, containing some violence and language content. We would consider the book as suitable for Christian adults.

Silver Hand Publishing's review of "The Kingdom of Heaven"
Courtesy of Noah Lynch/Silver Hand Publishing. Contains minor spoilers.
"Imagine Orwell’s 1984, but with a hopeful ending... ...that shows that, despite the world’s worst instincts, God’s people will still live, that is The Kingdom of Heaven by Evelyn Lewis.
Told from the view of Alexandra, this story shows a dystopia that is haunting[ly] plausible when one looks at the world outside. Nothing is absolute, except the authorities, every action is predetermined, and every food is fake and synthetic. Those who think outside the established thoughts are De[tra]ctors who must be destroyed. However, Alex will find out that the world’s system, their ultimate utopia, cannot even hold a candle to what God offers within family, community, and the Bible.
Lewis doesn’t hold back in showing the horrors of a world fully devoted to materialism, the belief that nothing matters except what is physical. Any evil act, even mankind’s extinction and dehumanization is justified. However, she skillfully contrasts this with God’s view of the world. Humans are in God’s image, nature is to be tended, but also enjoyed; and kindness and compassion are done out of love. She also masterfully develops her characters. Even people mentioned off hand early in the story have a significant impact later in the tale.
This story manages to avoid the trap of making everything work out for the protagonists, as does happen in many Christian tales. While it’s clear God’s hand is guiding it, the people still suffer and die. Not everything has a happy ending in this world as it doesn’t in our sinful one. But God…that wonderful phrase, but God and His church shine a light of hope and love in that dark world. The story ends in a satisfying manner that leaves me wanting to share the Gospel, while also satisfying my itch for a great story with well-developed characters.
Gladly giving this story a five out of five. Give it a read!"
