making an important announcement about some things i’ve noticed in the gwendoline christie fandom that really bug me.

to start with id like to begin on a positive note so that i’m not diving into negativity, i don’t want to be completely negative about my experiences because i’ve actually met some of the kindest people in the world through this fan base.

the gwen fandom, the gwandom, the gwendoline christie fandom , the lesbian cesspool, has been an incredible experience that i’m grateful i’ve had the pleasure of being apart of.

i went through a rough patch during november, and if i hadn’t found out about gwen, or met such wonderful people during my time here , i honestly wouldn’t be here right now. i owe my life to these people, gwen included. i will forever adore miss christie and what she stands for alongside the friends i’ve made along the way.

and while i know someday this hyperfix will end, it’s really disheartening to me when a fandom is what makes me grow distant from things i enjoy. it happened before, i feel as though it is happening all over again.

and no, i’m not taking issue with anything like the catrissa stuff or the brienne and larissa ship going around or anything like that. i like that we can all be weird together and enjoy aus like catrissa and crackships like bririssa (not sure the official name that was decided lol). my issue is the amount of content i’ve seen that either focuses on gwen herself, or the strange relationship with minors, or the odd artwork of gwen, and the absolute disgusting behaviour towards giles.

gwen would be absolutely appalled seeing fanfictions of herself that involve nsfw or just her in general, anyone would, it’s disgusting to make works of real people in that setting. it’s like you’re treating them as an original character you can mould and manipulate as you see fit and using someone who is real with thought and feeling and consciousness for smut fics is not okay, or any fic in general. i totally get the hype around her characters, i literally have “brienne’s princess” in my bio and i’ve had “jane murdstone’s bloodbag” (in reference to my vamp au) as a name in a discord server.

but i think the fandom has begun to blur the lines between fictional characters and reality settings when it comes to gwen and the personalities she portrays on the television screen. it’s not fair to her. it’s disgusting. i’ve seen a minor do it, i’ve seen a grown adult do it. it’s something i don’t see shamed and frowned upon often enough and it’s really not okay.

on that note i’d like to quickly mention the photos, we alllll know what photos i’m talking about. the bunny one, the nudes, the ones gwen has expressed regret towards and wishes to not have them spread. was there not a “fan” who brought her a book of her nudes and wanted her to sign it? that person who was blocked on instagram by gwen because they reposted her nudes on their story and tagged her???? how can you refer to yourself as a fan after behaving so abhorrently? absolutely disgusting behaviour. as a collective fandom we need to stop touching those photos (metaphorically speaking) and leave them in the past.

i’ve been told of numerous circumstances in which adults have shown their nsfw works to minors in this fandom and it has to fucking stop. it’s disgusting!! how can you do that knowingly? i constantly ponder terminating my account after a minor got ahold of my nsfw work, and upon realising they WERE a minor it was as simple as blocking and moving on. it’s truly not that hard, folks. and the minors on tiktok who fight with others saying silly things like “that’s my wife” or worse. i’ve seen it all, i feel like, and the more i see it the more sick i become. i cannot stand it.

i have seen and heard of fans who have fat shamed gwen for that one pink dress she wore to the met gala. she looked so happy in that dress, and the audacity one must have to fatshame that poor woman on twitter then turn around and continue to proclaim your ‘love for her’ as if you’d done no wrong? are you fucking serious? are you mental?

and the sexualisation over the porcelain doll look, gods some of you are sick. those were not real breasts, people. considering the fact she wholeheartedly regrets her nude photoshoots , what possesses you to believe she would actually flaunt her chest in that outfit?

the blatant mistreatment of poor giles is not fucking okay either. just because you’re jealous of someone who makes her immensely happy does not give you the right to post something so vile and cruel about him. shame on you. why do you believe this is okay to post:

i avoid interacting with pages i find problematic on here to keep from stirring the pot but tonight i chose violence and got reeeeeal pissy about how i felt about this place. it’s not okay what i see on here and it’s getting exhausting seeing the same cycle of content on a daily.

And just drop the empty plate back in front of her, and continue to eat, best not to give her too much attention actually, in case thats all she wants

I don't want a 3rd szn without Izzy. I just don't. Call me dramatic or whatever, but I'm so genuinely heartbroken by his death. I feel so betrayed. Izzy was the heart of the show, and now he's gone.

The aftermath of his death felt rushed, he wasn't buried at sea (like what the fuck, a lifelong pirate like Izzy would've wanted to be buried at sea) and the crew was just happy to get back on the revenge and set sail without their unicorn? Everyone just gets a happily ever without Izzy? Izzy died a painful death shot by a pompous asshole and for what? Some metaphor about the end of the golden age of piracy? Piss off. Closure for Ed? That could've been achieved a number of other ways. Izzy couldn't get any assurances that HE was loved? Even on his fucking deathbed? The man who protected the crew with life and limb? It doesn't feel right, and it never will. Izzy deserved so much better, and so did Con.

And worst of all, perhaps, is that Djenkins was planning on killing him all along. The whole time, while we were falling in love with the little angry man, rooting for him and rejoicing when he wore makeup in front of the crew and was vulnerable with them...he was a dead man walking.*

*I've seen ppl make rlly good points about how death was treated throughout the show and I wanted to add that context here. If I can find whose post I'm thinking of, I'll tag them

**Edit: Izzy's death was an incredible shock. EVERYONE ELSE IN THE SHOW survived their near death experiences!!! Stede got choked near to death, stabbed (twice!), and survived all of that unscathed. Ed got his head smashed in by a FUCKING CANNONBALL, pumbled by the crew and made it out with barely a scrape. Even Calico Jack could've (apparently) escaped death after being shot with a goddamn cannonball. The Swede was poisoned but was already immune to it. Wow! We (at least I felt this way), as an audience, believed that there wouldn't be any character deaths due to the overwhelming evidence we'd been given thus far. So after alllll the in show evidence that the laws of medicine or physics don't apply to ANY of the pirates, why suddenly apply it when it comes to Izzy? Hmmm??? It makes no fucking sense. It's cruel and unusual punishment. They really killed off the queer disabled elder??? Jesus christ. Did not a single person in the writer's room have a qualm about it? The optics alone are bad. But more importantly, killing off the queer disabled elder is inherently political, whether djenkins thought of it that way or not (& i dont think he did). The mere existence of queer people is inherently political in a society (the US), which wishes for our eradication. So killing off a beloved queer disabled elder, on a show which seemed to promise us queer joy and a happy ending, IS POLITICAL. it's a slap in the face and a punch through the fucking gut.

It feels doubly awful because we, as an audience, were given something we've never had before, an unapologetically queer show. One that didn't soften or censor itself for straight viewers. It was created with such love, at least it felt like, for us. So to be given that gift, and to feel recognized and seen and appreciated, only to have it snatched away...

I can only speak for myself, of course, but it's genuinely heartbreaking. I'm so utterly disappointed. I wish so badly that Con got more time with Izzy. I think Izzy means a lot to him, and he means a lot to us, too.

your dinner with your boyfriend was spectacular, you were out of town for an event he had to attend so being able go to a restaurant you weren't familiar with was refreshing.

you'd spent time on your hair and makeup- even going so far as to deliberately chose your outfit. your dress came out of a suitcase but you thought it looked nice.

you and richarlison ate and enjoyed eachothers company, he took a few photos of you and put his phone down, commenting something about how he was going to make it his background and that your smile was beautiful.

you finished your meal and payed for the bill- lingering in the restaurant until your uber came to get you both.

once on the way home you scrolled through your messages to respond to your friends and family seeing as you weren't really on your phone during the dinner. you looked up from your screen to see a big smile on richarlisons- he caught onto your staring, "my god, you're so fucking beautiful."

you were curious to see what he was gawking at and a photo from the dinner was on his screen, you saw what you looked like im that frame and suddenly your dress didn't fit right, your smiles was awkward for your face, your hair looked messy, and you should've work more makeup. your smile was wiped from you face after seeing that photo.

"ew." you muttered.

"delete it." you said. richarlison was obviously confused- seeing as he thought you were the epitome of attraction, he questioned you, "just delete it." you said again before going back to scrolling on your phone- turning slightly away from him.

the uber finally made it back to your hotel and the walk back inside was silent as you still felt shame. richarlison on the other hand was extremely confused, he didn't know if you were mad at him or if he did something wrong so he stayed silent until you entered the doors of ur room. you set your purse down on the small couch before taking a seat on the same couch to take your shoes off, "it was a bad photo thats all."

richarlison walking over to you at you sat there, "what?"

he genuinely asked you that question, and you laughed will nodding your head- your laughter directly contradicting with the tears welling up in your eyes.

your boyfriend just stood there staring at you for 30 seconds, genuinely trying to understand where this insecurity would even stem from. to him your face was the most precious thing in the world, something that the gods took their time with, he knew every detail of your face- and your body was something he worshipped and knew how to care for, to him you were honestly enchanting- but he didn't know how to put that into words as his deep gaze was set on you and every detail of your being.

Sorry long text but I cant deal with the fact that Lewis is still so hurt by Nico that he still struggles to decide what to call him in interviews, we only know the iceberg of what happened. And it's so interesting that Nico still talks about Lewis and even pretends they're fine to a degree. That's always how the people act who fucked up, in my experience. Not to say that Lewis wasn't being toxic lol, he was a bitch and probably just as cruel as Nico but the way they talk or don't talk now gives you an idea of who did the more unforgivable shit or said the more hurtful things. It's crazy that Lewis still hurts so much from that. I also never knew about Max calling Nico out and Lewis reading what Max said and laughing and cheering? oh yeah max was the main background character during the brocedes era. totally in his own bubble of trying to win races, being a menace to everyone on the grid, hopping on a podium from time to time, almost costing nico the championship. he is like the guy who wasn't aware he was part of a drama film and was just doing his own stuff but they're alllll linked! max won his very first race directly caused by the heat of the silver war!

So, as our yearly custom dictates, I got to make my partner watch the entirety of Spies Are Forever with alllll my commentary because tomorrow is my birthday.

After they knock out Oleg he said "wow these guys have weird foreplay" (correct)

His biggest laugh was during the Tatiana & Curt elevator scene when Curt goes "we're talking about fighting, right?"

But for me, the part that hit hardest this time around was during the scene between Prisoner of my Past and Doing This, where Curt is talking about how he's afraid he'll never be the spy he once was and the Spy Again motif is playing, and then as soon as he starts talking about Owen it just transitions so beautifully to the Spies Are Forever motif and it's just... ugh, fucking devastating.

Also every like four minutes I was yelling mean things at Agent Mega and my partner said "do you even like this character?" and I just very sadly said I'd take a bullet for him and he said "so like Owen?" And I sighed

I don't know how I can see this show so many times and still have the biggest smile on my face (except for all the times I'm crying)

So, I absolutely refused to watch the ATLAB live action for reasons you've probably already seen. But my main reason, and how I decided litteral MONTHS before it came out, was that the Og creators left the show due to "creative differences".

If any of you have never seen a Netflix original show, remake or otherwise, you should know that "creative differences" usually means "Netflix took the reins and fucked it alllll up".

Now, I didn't watch it. But my optimistic younger sister did. At first, she said it was okay. But then she finished it today and told me that, yes, Netflix took the reins and, indeed, fucked it all up.

I could probably go on and on about how live action remakes of animated shows is the least creative thing you could do, and how it's contributing to the lack of new animated shows, while also showing Hollywood is both creatively starved and clueless about how not to butcher the few good ideas they do have.

I could also go on about how this new format of show (eight forty minute episodes a season) makes creating new worlds, exploring them, fleshing out characters, nearly impossible to do which is why a lot of newer shows fall flat to the point where I go back to rewatching New Girl for the umpteenth time.

But I'll just say that I'm glad that the Og creators of ATLAB are working on their own series, and I can't wait to watch it.

OKAY OKAY OKAY.

I loved it, as I knew I would, but I am very much still processing. This is not going to be a very coherent post by the way, so please don't expect that of me. The first like hour of this film was the funniest movie I have seen in a very long time and there were lots of laughs in the theatre. Seeing this while high as fuck on 4-20 was wonderful.

One of the biggest things that stands out to me is that there is literally no character development in this film. There's definitely plot development, and new information unlocked, but what does Beau do about this information??? nothing. He remains more or less exactly and completely the same. Which lends itself nicely to a narrative about purgatory.

Also this movie leaves me with lingering feelings and thoughts about how horror is alllll about witnessing others misfortunes and comedy is the same thing. When something mildly bad happens to your best friend everyone's first instinct is to laugh.

Ari Aster and Joaquin Phoenix both thrive in making people deeply uncomfortable so when they work together its just magical. There were moments that made me feel sooooo uncomfortable it was UNREAL I was flattened out in my seat like I was when I saw skinamarink. Specifically just soooo much stammering/crying/moaning/mumbling/screaming/groaning/noises.

This movie also was kind of a montage of every kind of nightmare?? Your therapist works for your mom and sends her recordings of all your sessions, running in the street naked, trapped somewhere and no one will let you leave, urgently need to say something but can't speak, very long boring narrative happening that makes no sense and is going nowhere and leaves you with a vague sense of dread, etc. Very specific and familiar kinds of nightmares.

I'm not necessarily saying that this was the meaning of the film or that it had any inherent meaning at all, but Beau seems to live in the world that your social anxiety WANTS you to believe is the real world. And watching things play out like that is like.... a reflection on how ridiculous it would be if that was actually how anything worked at all. And watching someone who is so victimized by everything and simultaneously so pathetic and unable to self advocate is like. kind of a wake up call. Leaving the theatre there was a lingering feeling not unlike the feeling of waking up from a ridiculous nightmare and thinking "it's never that serious"
