Do any of you use book apps? For example: Goodreads, Story Graph, Bookmory, or Hoopla?
I’m sick of Goodreads, so I was looking through the App Store and it was surprising how many new apps there are for books.

Okay okay I have a genuine question, Shadow and Bone fandom. I've been rewatching s1 to get ready for s2 and even with the full context of having already watched the season 1, there's one moment that still bothers me.
TW// sexual assault.
In episode 5, "Show Me Who You Are", we learn that the the grisha essentially service the Queen and King whenever, and in whichever way they see fit.
This is shown of course via Genya, who tells Alina she was woken up earlier than usual because the queen demanded her services, and that the king would require sexual favors at night sometimes.
Caught up? Cool. Here's my question (and feel free to spoil me all you'd like about future plots if you feel that would help in getting answers).
Shortly after the reveal, we switch to Kirigan and as he presents himself to the King and Queen, we have this exchange.

Now idk if it was Ben Barnes' acting, or if I'm reading too much into this out of shock for what happened earlier, but it almost sounded like she was flirting with him. And he's clearly not interested.
And then their conversation is cut short by Alina walking in, and she and Kirigan have the following exchange.

I guess what I'm asking is. Is there a possibility that the Queen was doing to him what the king was doing to Genya?
With the full context of the season and of who he is, it is also fully possible that it was actually him tricking the Queen instead, for power. I am open to that possibility as well.
It's just this entire sequence has bothered me since the first time I watched the show, and so I figured it was best to ask if anyone has a better idea of what is happening. Thanks in advance!!

Alright, friends, it's almost October and although I probably shouldn't buy any more books (said with an uncomfortable glance at shelves upon shelves of unread ones) I am so in the mood for something spooky!! Past faves have been:
Night Film by Marisha Pessl (adore! Might need a reread)
Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall (sooo much scarier than expected, I mean wow! This was YA? How??)
Harrow Lake by Kat Ellis (really fun and just the right amount of scary)
I am looking for something scary, yet not terribly disturbing, I'd say. The other day I rewatched Shutter Island (which I loved as a teenager) and am embarrassed to say that that felt like too much somehow? But then again, films might be different from books, Idk.
Does anybody have any recs? @books-and-cookies @sleepyreads @just0nemorepage @appleinducedsleep @whilereadingandwalking @miss-nerd-alert I don't know if you all like scary reads, but as some of the book people on here who I could think of right now, maybe you have ideas? Also @hrimceald? <3

Tumblr media
Which is whatever, i don't fuck with Colleen Hoover, but it's aight
Tumblr media
And then I see this? Is this real?? Do we need this? Do we really need a lily blossom bloom (yes, that's the protagonists name I'm afraid) and a Ryle? I guess this book is more about like a toxic relationship, which is better than displaying a story where the toxic traits are glamorized (because im extremely sure there are books of hers which DO), then maybe they'd fix it up or something? Look idunno man

Ok, soooooooo...We gotta talk about this.
I love bookworm, library mouse, and ink drinker equally. Not a fan of read-rat or book flea.
READING HORSE??? WHAT??? Denmark, I demand an explanation of the etymology of this idiomatic phrase.

am I into academia? if academia is the smell of old books, the calm falling of rain, creating an cozy atmosphere where I can read a book in a little reading nook in the corner of my room then yeah, I'd say I'm into academia.

“just past cicada o’clock”
This is where I’m tryin to be. On my own back porch. Watching fireflies dance the sun down over a little garden that dumps out into the big wide possibility of sky, creamy orange and soft soft neon purple, the sum of every summer I’ve ever lived and every summer I ever hope to experience.
The quote comes from a book. Love and Hot Chicken by Mary Liza Hartong.
This book is making me ache for what I’ve known and is just making me that much more determined to dig my heels in and make it happen. Make all my dreams come true. One goal at a time. One book. One porch. One summer.
