Could we have a fic where Charles misses Ruby because she's at a sleepover and all he wants to do is go and get her
girls just wanna have fun | charles leclerc
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
girl dad charles back at it again 🫶🏼
When Ruby got home from school, she immediately started packing a bag. Her best friend, Mila, was having a slumber party and Mila had invited Ruby. Charles was home since F1 had no upcoming race so he was confused when Ruby didn’t give him his kiss on the cheek she usually gives him when he’s home. The little girl ran straight to her bedroom and started packing.
Y/n entered their home with the stroller, Baby Mathéo was inside peacefully sleeping. Charles greeted his wife and placed a kiss on her lips.
“What’s wrong with our daughter?” He asked.
“She’s been invited to her first sleepover. You remember her best friend Mila? She’s having her classmates over at her house and Ruby got invited.” Y/n replied, carefully taking Mathéo out of his stroller.
“So she’s going to be sleeping at someone else’s house?” Charles asked.
“Yeah, that’s pretty much how a sleepover works.” Y/n nodded.
“Let me rephrase that. She’s going to be sleeping in a house that isn’t ours or maman’s house or Lorenzo’s. Amour, she’s never been separated from us for a day.” Charles explained as he took Mathéo from Y/n’s arms.
“You travel all the time, Charles, that’s your job.”
“You know what I mean. We won’t be there with her. Are you sure she’s going to make it through the night? She should just here with us.” When Ruby was two, she spent three months sleeping in Y/n and Charles’ bed because she didn’t want to be away from them.
“I talked to Ruby on the way here and she said she’s going to okay. Charles, she’s growing up. Next thing you know, she’s going to be ditching us for her friends on a trip to Spain!” Y/n teased, but saw how Charles was upset about his little girl leaving for the night. “Sweetheart, she’s going to be fine. We know Mila’s parents so we know she’s in good hands. Plus, we won’t be kid free. We still have our little Théo here.” Y/n chuckled as Thèo reached for his mother.
“But if our phones ring just once-”
“I know, Charles, you’re going to go pick her up.”
“I’m ready!” Ruby ran to the front door dragging her barbie bag that had clothes falling out.
“See? Our baby is excited! Ruby, come here so mama can fix your clothes.” Y/n called out to the excited four year old.
All Charles could do was watch his daughter leave the house. He was happy that at least she had friends who were kind enough to invite her over for sleepovers, but he was worried. Was he overreacting? He didn’t think so.
“Do you want to come with us?” Y/n asked Charles.
Charles looked down at the baby in his arms and shook his head. “You two go ahead. Théo and I are going to watch some cartoons.”
Ruby ran back to her papa and gave him a hug. “I love you, papa.” She smiled at him then gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“I love you more, Ruby Jules. Be good and sleep on time.” Charles said to the girl.
After saying goodbye to her baby brother, Ruby and her mother were on their way to the sleepover. Back home, Charles and Théo were too busy having a sleepover of their own. Wel, trying to since Théo was slowly falling asleep again.
After Y/n arrived back home, she saw Charles sleeping on the sofa with Baby Mathéo on his chest. She approached her husband and son then placed a baby blanket over the little boy.
“Y/n?” Charles mumbled, his eyes fluttering open.
“Hey, everything okay?” She ran a hand thought his hair.
“I’m okay.” Charles replied.
By dinner time, Charles’ nerves were calm. Mila’s mom had a group chat with all the moms of the girls that attended the sleepover and regularly sent pictures of what the girls were doing.
“Look, they’re watching Tangled.” Y/n showed the picture to Charles.
Immediately Charles noticed the pajamas that Ruby was wearing. While every other little girl was wearing princess or unicorn pajamas, Ruby was wearing her red Ferrari pajamas. It was hard to miss her since she was the only one wearing red.
After cleaning up the dinner table and putting Mathéo to sleep, Y/n and Charles we’re getting ready for their sleep. As Charles entered the bathroom to brush his teeth, he heard Y/n’s phone ring. He didn’t think much of it so he continued with his nightly routine.
“Charles, sweetheart, it’s for you.” Y/n entered the bathroom with her phone in hand. “It’s Ruby.”
Charles dropped his toothbrush and quickly rinsed his mouth. He snatched the phone from his wife’s hands and called out Ruby’s name thinking she was scared and wanted to come home.
“Hi papa! I told Mila’s maman that I wanted to say goodnight to you so goodnight and I miss you and I love you and I miss you more.” She said through giggles.
Charles chuckled. “I miss you too, Ruby Jules. Goodnight, mon ange. I will pick you up in the morning.”
“Okay, papa. You can’t see right now, but I’m sending you kisses. I’m sending you lots of kisses!”
“No, I can see them. I see all of the kisses you’re sending me. Can you see mine? They’re kisses just for you.” Charles replied.
“I think I see them.” Ruby laughed.
“It’s getting late now, bébé. Sleep well and you can tell me all about your day tomorrow.” Charles told the girl.
“Okay, tell Baby Théo that I love him and miss him and that I want to hug him and goodnight and-”
“Okay, okay, I will. Goodnight, Ruby Jules.” Charles interrupted her knowing that if he didn’t, the conversation would go on all night.
Charles ended the call and gave Y/n her phone back. “I miss my little girl.” He frowned.
“I know, but you said it yourself, you’re going to pick her up in the morning. It’s not going to be a whole week, babe.”
All night, Charles looked at the clock on his nightstand and wondered if Ruby was also awake. There was a time when Ruby couldn’t sleep at night so Charles had ordered glow in the dark stars and stuck them on her bedroom ceiling so when she couldn’t sleep, she could count the stars. But that only worked a couple times since Ruby would run to her parent’s room and sleep in between them.
Charles ordered more glow in the dark stars and stuck them on their ceiling so Ruby could also count the stars in her maman and papa’s bedroom.
So that’s what Charles was doing in the middle of the night. He counted each star, imagining that Ruby was beside him trying to hold in her laughter when Charles would purposefully miss a few numbers.
“Mon amour? Are you awake?” Charles whispered to Y/n. She didn’t respond, all Charles could hear was her breathing.
Eventually Charles forced himself to fall asleep. He couldn’t wait until the morning to see his little girl.
Before his alarm went off, he was already awake and ready to pick up Ruby. Y/n had woken up half an hour after Charles’ alarm. When she walked into the kitchen, she saw Charles feeding Mathéo, who were both dressed and ready to go.
“Good morning my loves.” Y/n gave kisses to both of her boys.
“Théo and I are ready to pick up Ruby. I was thinking that we could spend the day as a family. We could go see a movie or to the park?” Charles said as Mathéo reached for his mother.
“That would be nice.”
After eating breakfast, the family of three were on their way to pick up Ruby from Mila’s house. Charles parked in the driveway and saw a couple cars parked as well. “I can wait with Théo here.” Y/n said to Charles.
“Are you sure?” Charles asked.
Y/n nodded. “You did say you were going to pick her up.” She chuckled.
Charles then exited his car and walked up to the front door. He knocked three times and waited. Seconds later, the door was opened by Mila’s father.
“Hi, I’m Mila’s father.” He introduced himself.
“I’m-” before he could finish introducing himself, Ruby screamed and ran towards him.
“Papa!” The girl ran into Charles’ arms and kissed him on the cheek multiple times. “I missed you!”
“I missed you too, Ruby Jules.” Charles couldn’t bring himself to put his little girl on the ground so he held her tightly in his arms.
“So you’re the Ferrari driver? Ruby would not stop talking about her papa’s fast car.” Mila father said with a smile.
“The pajamas gave it away.” Charles added.
“Papa, guess what?!” Ruby asked.
“What is it?”
“Next week, I’m having my own sleepover and I invited everyone! They said they would come! We can all sleep in my room!”
Charles laughed nervously. “You invited everyone?”
“Yeah, and there was this boy in my class that said your car isn’t fast enough so I didn’t invite him,” Ruby said. “But then he said he would be a Ferrari fan if I invited him.”
“Ruby, we have to be nice to everyone even if they’re not a Ferrari fan.” Charles said.
Mila’s dad chuckled. “I’m more of a Red Bull fan myself, but-”
Charles interrupted. “I would love to stay and talk but my wife and son are waiting. Ruby, do you have everything with you?”

just some dad!skz thoughts for y’all
a little suggestive here and there, and because of that, MINORS DNI
bang chan - first daughter only
Definitely was the first to have a kid in the group. Spoiled is not a good enough word — his eldest daughter is like royalty in the group. If they know the baby is going to be around, somebody has something to give her.
Religiously watches hair tutorials (one screen has his mixing board, while the other is playing YouTube videos on loop) so he’s ready when she asks him to braid her hair. Has practice on you, Hyunjin, himself. They’re going to be perfect, because she deserves nothing less. The first braid is a little sloppy, but no one has the heart the tell him.
Travel crib folded up in his office, tucked behind the couch just in case. Everyone has used it.
If his little family goes on tour with them, or even just the local shows, he’ll make sure she has a set of headphones. Walks around to check mics with her in his arms.
It took him six weeks to find the perfect car seat for her. No, he’s not being picky. He’s being safe.
Keeps a mini diaper bag on him at all times. You’ll never catch him slacking.
When it comes to you, he’s the most devoted husband. Helps you postpartum, continually encourages to take days off. Reminds you daily how much he loves you, cherishes you, and always takes time to make you feel beautiful. (People sex after child is nearly impossible, but Chan is determined to make it possible.)
Very hesitant about co-sleeping until she’s old enough. Would even say he’s almost anti. But when she falls asleep on his bare chest, and the tv is playing at a low volume, and he’s just really, really tired. Your heart beams at the sight of them, matching expressions, snores coming from the both. You snap a bunch of pictures — it’s his favorite set.
lee minho
Protective? Please. Don’t offend him with that word — it’s not strong enough. If someone even breathes the wrong way in her direction, he’s ready to take measures to insure it will never happen again.
No. He won’t tell you what kind of measures.
He loves bath time. The little sink seat, the bubbles. When his daughter gets good motor skills, he loves the way she always reaches for the duck. Clutching it in her little fist, giggling with her father puts bubbles on its head.
Makes his own baby food. Why would he waste money on that canned stuff when he has fresh vegetables at home? Tsk. His blender is his best friend.
Has a whiteboard on the fridge with a list of what she likes (BIG YES for strawberries, or any berry mix, squash, sweet potatoes. HARD NO when it comes to bananas and anything green). Likes to introduce her early to foods, letting her explore.
Has taken Doongie out of her crib more than once. Caught her trying to feed Dori once. Always reaches for Soonie when she sees him past. Minho’s heart warms at his first babies loving on his new baby (even though she cried the first time Dori licked her cheek).
Daily family walks. It’s important to make sure she gets sunshine, and the fresh air is good for everyone. Always wants to push the stroller, but doesn’t complain when you reach for it.
Shower sex has become a habit, but he won’t complain about it. When you have a clingy baby, you take any opportunity you get. So pinning you the glass door happens more than it did before.
Fondly refers to you as “his girls”. It brings him so much pride that this is his family.
seo changbin — twins only
When the ultrasound showed two babies, he’s surprised he didn’t pass out. He got close though; the cold sweats, ringing in his ears, chills. Two babies? At once? Is it possible to be shaking with excitement but also absolute terror at the same time?
Your pregnancy wasn’t easy. The boys were heavy, and you found yourself on bed rest more often than not. Changbin wouldn’t tell you, but he was on edge the entire time. Seeing you so exhausted, so ready to get out of bed but unable to — he felt so useless. Even though he never left your side, making sure you had everything you could want and were as comfortable as possible, he hated himself for doing this to you.
And to top it all off, they were late. Of course they were. “They just love you so much, they don’t want to leave.” He tried to make you feel better, kissing your stomach, wiping your tears. Held your hand during the c-section, nose pressed to your forehead. Whispering every encouraging word he could think of to ease your fear, like he wasn’t drowning in his own.
When they finally arrive earth side? Oh, you both agree. It was all worth it.
They’re identical. The only difference are their eyes — one has yours, the other his. It was your idea to assign them colors (one is yellow, two is grey). Thank God for it too, because when they’re sleeping, he has no option but to guess.
Not a single second is taken for granted, but Changbin won’t lie and say the first year was his favorite. No, it’s when their personalities start to develop that he loved the most.
One really, really loves trucks. Is loud, runs through the apartment without a care. When he inevitably crashes into something, he bounces back up. Tiny feet carrying him away from the injury, like there isn’t a scrap on his forehead (isn’t a fan when Changbin chases him down to clean the wound).
Two prefers a quieter day. Sitting on the couch, eating yogurt bites as he watches his twin hit the wall. He’s low maintenance, most of the time, but when he gets upset? Oh, how the world is ending. Clings to Mama as he sobs. It’s so hard to be him.
Both, though, love musical instruments. Changbin’s favorite purchase (much to your dismay) is the tiny drum set he got them for their first birthday. One is a big fan of that, while Two stays on the toy piano. Their room filled with music all the time.
Has taken them to the studio a few times. Lets them watch as he and Chan work on songs, plays with Jisung when they’re getting a little rowdy. Eventually, they crash on the couch (along with Uncle Ji) before they can even record vocals.
Two is better than one. Whoever said that wasn’t lying.
hwang hyunjin — youngest daughter only
There’s no doubt. She is Hyunjin’s child.
Copy and paste. Down to the freckle under the eye, she literally looks just like him. Put their baby pictures side to side and have fun trying to figure out which is which.
She learned his scowl within the first year, when you tried to get her to try applesauce. The side eye was intense as she pushed the cup off her tray and called “Pup Pup” for Kkami to clean the mess.
Hyunjin thinks it’s hilarious. Until you give him the same side eye, then his lips are sealed.
For both children, he got custom made rings. Birth stone pressed into a thin gold band, engraved with their birth flowers. Both children have one just the same, but adjustable, so they don’t grow out of it. He wears hers on his right middle finger — and what mini Hyunjin sees, mini Hyunjin does.
Once, when she was still small enough to fit perfectly in a body carrier, her daycare was closed for the day. Water leak. Her brother was sick with the flu, and didn’t want you to leave his side. So Hyunjin took the youngest to work with him that day, completely forgetting that it was a dance practice day. Chan told him it was fine to push it a day, but they were already behind. Besides, the carrier is tight. One hand on her tiny body, he keeps her firm against his chest so she doesn’t bounce much.
After that, bringing her to practice became a habit. Especially after she started taking dance lessons.
What mini Hyunjin sees, mini Hyunjin does. Down to the movement of her feet, trying to keep up with even the most intense choreos.
When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, she always says Papa.
Bonus: you’re swimming in crafts. The two of them always up to something in Hyunjin’s home studio, painting and crafting the most beautiful art pieces you’ve ever been gifted.
han jisung
Oh. Oh, how do you begin to try to put a love like this into words?
Smothered. Smothered in kisses and snuggles all day long — and not just from him. Not to be biased or anything, but you’re both convinced she’s the best baby in the entire world. Look at those cheeks and try to convince you two otherwise.
Oh, you can’t.
And she’s the happiest little thing. Always giggling, so friendly, chatting up a storm with her babble. That baby doesn’t know a stranger; she’ll smile and wave at everyone.
Out of all the Kids’ kids, she’s at the company the most. Waltzing down the halls with her sippy like she owns the place, right behind her father. Naps on the practice room couch. Steals snacks from the cafeteria. Cut her a check, she’s put in some hard fucking work.
Speaking of naps — when Jisung is home, he’s always napping with her. When the clock strikes 12:45 in the afternoon, they’re both changing into nap time clothes and crawling in the giant bed. Soft music lulling them to sleep until his alarm goes off.
Has almost too many Quokkas. Which is ironic considering her skzoo bias is Leebit (Minho has been working on this since he was made aware of her existence, seeing his hard work pay off is delightful — until his daughter starts to grow a little too fond of her Quokka).
Mirror selfies. So. Many. Mirror selfies. He takes one monthly, saving them on his computer to document growth. Cries as he sorts through them every birthday.
She’s a heavy sleeper. Even as a newborn, she slept through the night with ease. Rarely does she wake up, and if she does, she can typically put herself back to sleep. Which is great, considering the second Bluey is off, so are your pants.
The dilf energy >>> something about becoming a father has made your husband even hotter. More intense in the bedroom, devoting time he doesn’t have to making sure you feel worshipped. Once he spent two hours between your legs — safe to say walking was difficult the next day.
Jisung desperately wants another baby. But that thought is always overpowered when she looks at him — why would you want more when she’s already perfect?
lee felix
House is literally never tidy. Organized chaos at best, but two kids under three make it impossible to keep up with chores. Felix tries — wakes up before you to wash the dishes, gets the majority of the mess cleaned before the little monsters wake up. But in a flash, it’s messy again.
Not that he minds. Or you. As long as the kids are happy and healthy, you can live with papers on the table or toys scattered across the house (except for that morning Felix tripped over one on the way downstairs. He’s doesn’t think that scar will ever fade).
Started prep on a Mother’s Day present MONTHS ago and is incredibly serious about it. The moment he has the kids alone, he’s scrambling. Color this, glue that, just like chill out for 30 second — he knows the paint is cold but the handprints are an essential part of this craft.
He’s had to redo the handprints seven times. But who’s counting?
It’s a recipe book, all the treats thought of by the oldest. Felix helped her write it, the youngest scribbled on some paper, and ta-da! Is it barely holding together? Sure, but you don’t care. Your heart is swelling, tears forming at the care that’s been put into it.
When you mentioned putting the kids in swim lessons, he was almost offended. “We bought this house specifically for the pool. No, I can teach them.” And, true to his word, as soon as the weather is warm, all three are out there daily. Sunscreen from head to toe, new freckles forming on all their faces. Sometimes you join them, but most of the time you just watch them fall deeper in love with each other.
Don’t ask me to explain this — but he SCREAMS airport dad.
Always there way too early, the oldest strapped to his back. Rushes your family through security — “How many times have we done this?” He’s gentle, but the annoyance is obvious to everyone but his daughter, who is grinning up at him. “Shoes off.” — stands in front of the giant screens with arrivals/departures. Hands on his hips, squinting slightly.
“Well it’s a good thing we didn’t book at 9:00 AM, aye, babe?” He shakes his head. “Definitely would have missed that one!”
Tracks the flight on his phone. Knows about delays before the pilots even do
at this point I’m just describing my own father
Is a PRO at soothing the baby on the plane. Standing out of the aisle, tucked in the back as he bounces him. Shushing him as he slides a pacifier in. Soothed and sleeping in under five minutes.
Honestly the most stereotypical dad of the group, and he fucking loves it.
kim seungmin
Last of the group to marry, last to have kids. By the time his son is born, Chan and Changbin already have three. Seungmin doesn’t really see the rush — good things take times.
And oh, is he the best thing.
The most organized nursery you’ve ever seen; all the baby hangers match, clothes sorted by season, then by color. Dresser drawers labeled so everything goes back where it belongs.
Prefers cloth diapers to disposable. Sure, the water bill is high, but do you know how long diapers take to breakdown? No thanks. Cloth works fine.
No, hand sanitizer doesn’t “do the same thing”. If you want to hold the baby, wash your damn hands. If he even lets you hold him. Fucking hand sanitizer, the audacity—
Every time he speaks to his son, he signs what he is saying. Getting him familiar with the hand motions, so when his motor skills develop, he can copy.
Has a good grip in sign language, and Korean, and English by age four.
But honestly, he doesn’t care about any of that. Good skills to have, but Seungmin is endlessly proud of his son. Found a smooth rock and gave it to him? Best gift ever. Messed up a word in Korean because he confused it with the English equivalent? That’s okay, it’s hard sometimes!
Everything his son does deserves to be recognized.
Lets him check his mic. Little fists wrapped around it, the five year old beaming as running over to Jisung’s daughter. Who is doing the exact same thing.
Intentionally involves him in every aspect of his life. Just because he has a time consuming job, doesn’t mean he’ll lose out on time with him.
Thinks you’re the reason the word milf exists. Because damn. Seungmin already found it hard to keep his hands off you, but something about watching you be a mom? Oof.
Literally could be just packing your son’s lunch after he’s gone to bed and he’s standing at the kitchen entrance. Wide eyes and mouth dry.
“What’s that look for?”
And then you’re bent over the counter with your panties stuffed in your mouth.
Kinda has a breeding kink now?
But, fuck, have you seen you? Can you blame him?
Never really thought he wanted more than one kid, but with you? Oh, he wants a million more.
yang jeongin
Goes without saying, but. Matching outfits.
Started with just shoes, but over time, the collection has grown. Sometimes they match on accident even — there’s so much crossover in their closets.
When you feel left out, Jeongin takes his son to pick out an outfit special for the three of you. Wraps it up, has the little boy excitedly wake you up with the present.
Speaking of present, this kid has the most elaborate birthday parties. Jeongin does NOT play around; planning starts about six months out, and even then it’s a rush to get everything ready.
Your son looks forward to it more than any other holiday. And can you blame him? When it seems like the entire world is celebrating him?
Since the party is big, the presents are modest. If he gets too many, they go in a special closet. He’ll get to open one a week, not wanting him to get too entitled when it comes to gifts.
Always, always wants to sleep in bed with the two of you.
He’s a little snuggle bug, getting right in between you and Jeongin, desperate to be close at times. Not that either of you mind, for the most part.
But damn, have you guys become skilled when it comes to quickies. In the shower, in the car before heading to pick up, in an empty practice room while Hyunjin teaches a mini dance camp to the Kids’ kids.
Probably the biggest airplane parent, but only when it comes to safety. He’s so worried about his son getting injured, sometimes he has to remind himself that it’s okay for kids to push boundary.
That doesn’t mean his heart doesn’t drop when he asks if he can sign up for soccer.
dad!skz really is my fucking weakness—

Man's Best Friend - Daryl Dixon X Fem Reader
Tumblr media
Title: Man's Best Friend
Daryl Dixon X Fem Reader
Additional Characters: Dog
Requested By: Anon!
WC: 1,700
Warnings: Mentions of walkers/zombies, Reader is afraid of dogs, teasing, banter, flirting, nicknames, soft Daryl, soft Dog lol, very brief mentions of anxiety attacks, mini angst, and fluff
Ever since you were a young child, way before the apocalypse broke out, you had always been afraid of dogs. Big or small, they all scared you. You didn't know exactly why you were afraid of them, maybe because you weren't really used to being near them as a kid, or even as an adult. Or maybe it was because a large Golden Retriever had once jumped up into your stroller when you were little, or at least, that was what your mother had told you had happened. You had no memory of it, nor when you started actually fearing man's best friend.
Now, being afraid of them didn't technically mean that you hated them. Quite the contrary, you adored all animals, dogs included. You liked looking at them, petting them if you dared to do so and trusted or knew the owner. It all depended on the situation and, or course, the dog.
But it was difficult growing up. All around your neighborhood, a lot of people owned dogs. And though they were behind large fences most of the time, that didn't stop you from flinching every time they ran up to the fence, jumped, or barked - anything they did really, scared and stressed you out.
You wished that you could not be afraid of them. You wished that you could be like others and see a dog without feeling the overwhelming and searing anxiety that coursed through your viens; chilling you to the bone as your eyes widened and your throat tightened - your whole body becoming frozen in fear.
Now, in the apocalypse, there weren't many animals, but you knew you'd eventually have a run-in with a dog at some point. They were smart and resilient creatures, that could easily outrun a walker or two. And you did. After traveling with Daryl for years, switching from group to group, losing loved ones and friends… You met Dog. Such a fitting name...
Dog was very cute, you'd give him that. He was a big, fluffy, soft-looking dog. He was seemingly friendly around the people he liked and was pretty vicious when attacking those trying to hurt the group or Daryl for that matter.
For the months that Daryl had Dog, you had never pet him, or much if anything. You tried to stay as far away from him as possible when you could. But it was kind of hard when he was so close to Daryl. Thankfully, Daryl being the sweetest boyfriend in the world - and not wanting dog hair in the bed - wouldn't let Dog sleep in your shared bed. So that was nice.
You did care for the dog though. You thought he was cute when he stared up at Daryl with those puppy eyes, tongue hanging out the side of his mouth, panting slightly. He was cute.
You'd even talk to him sometimes, using a baby-like voice when doing so if you pleased. You loved how happy he seemed to get, wagging his tail.
Daryl on the other hand, noticed your apparent discomfort around Dog a long while ago - though it had lessened a bit over the years. It was still a bit obvious. He'd see you flinch if Dog came running up to see you to greet you or when you heard Dog bark.
So he did his best to help you, often going on supply runs with you on one side of him and Dog on the other; blocking you from each other. He'd distract Dog with food or a random toy - stick, rag, rope, etcetera - so he could spend a bit more time with you. And he'd lock Dog out of the bedroom, making sure to set up a bed for him somewhere else in the home, so that you could have a worry-free sleep.
Though he knew of your fear of dogs, he wanted to make sure you knew that Dog would never harm you.
Laying on the couch, Dog laid on top of Daryl as the man brushed his hand through his thick fur. Dog laid happily, content at the affection and attention, and so was Daryl, but he was missing you.
And you were only a couple of feet away.
Sitting on a chair, you quietly read a book, legs up on the red, plush cushion as you usually did in the presence of Dog. Subconsciously, you always pulled your legs up in front of the animal, your brain worried that, even though you knew Dog wouldn't do such a thing, that Dog wouldn't attack or jump up on you.
Daryl watched as you read, unable to break his gaze away from you. Your face looked peaceful as your fingers lightly traced the pages of the book as you read, a content smile playing on your lips as you did so. He felt something tug at his heart as he admired you, the light from the window behind you illuminating your face softly. His eyes followed your form as you shuffled in your seat in the armchair, gently pushing your hair back behind your ears with the movement.
You were still reading, oblivious to Daryl's gaze. As said before, he couldn't take his eyes off of you. You looked stunning in your simple band t-shirt and pj bottoms, your face clean of dirt and grime, freckles dusting your cheekbones as you licked your lips with the tip of your tongue. Your eyes were soft as they moved across the page, narrowing slightly when you turned to the next, brows furrowing as you continued. Must have been a good book, Daryl had thought.
"You're staring, D," Your voice interrupted his thoughts as you put your book down on your lap and shifted your position, stretching your arms above your head. Daryl averted his gaze, cheeks flushing a bit as you looked over at him. "What is it?"
Daryl grumbled slightly, turning his gaze to Dog, rubbing the dog's head, "Nothin', jus'... Ya look nice today." He answered softly, albeit a bit gruffly.
Your smile grew, your cheeks warming, "Daryl..." You trailed off with a sigh, "You're too sweet." The hunter flushed again, ducking his head to hide his face with his hair. "You look handsome today too." You added, making Daryl huff, shaking his head. Biting your lip briefly, you moved your thumb in your book to mark your page as you closed it; giving the man all of your attention. "I mean it. You are."
Looking up, Daryl was surprised to find you gazing at him. You flushed lightly under his gaze and his breath caught in his throat as your eyes locked with his brown ones. You were gorgeous. He realized he was just staring, and quickly cleared his throat, "Uh… Thanks, Y/N." You smiled and nodded in response, though it faltered when your eyes glanced over at Dog. Daryl noticed this, seeing how your eyes softened, a certain longing in them as you watched him continue to pet Dog. “Do ya… Wanna pet him?” He then asked, making you blink rapidly.
You cleared your throat, looking back down at your book, “You know I do… I’m just-”
“Scared?” Daryl finished for you, watching as you shifted in your seat again, “He ain’t gonna hurt ya. Ya know that.”
You nodded, biting your bottom lip, “I know. Just nervous, cause well, he’s a big dog…”
Standing up, Daryl grunted slightly as he did so. Dog stayed put on the couch, watching as Daryl walked over to your chair. You looked up at him as he offered you his hand, which you glanced at briefly. “C’mon,” He said softly, a very, very small smile on his face. You gulped, taking his hand, your legs feeling a bit numb as he helped you stand. You felt your heart begin to race as he led you to the couch, your eyes unable to stray from Dog’s. “Yer fine,” You heard Daryl say, voice gruff at how low he was speaking, “Ya know him, he’s a good boy.”
At that, you scoffed out a laugh, seeing Dog’s tail wagging with great speed as he looked up at you. “That’s gotta be the funniest thing I’ve ever heard you say.”
Darly’s small grin widened slightly as he saw your shoulders drop, and your breathing normalized. Daryl stopped before Dog, an arm’s reach away, the dog in question staring up at you with those large puppy dog eyes.
“Alrigh’, reach yer hand out, let him sniff ya.” Daryl spoke, squeezing your hand as you hesitantly raised your free one. “That’s it, sweetheart.”
You held your breath, watching as Dog leaned forward and sniffed your hand, the warmth of his breath fanning over your hand. You quickly shut your eyes at the feeling, turning to nudge your face into Daryl’s shoulder. Your mind began to race with all sorts of different, terrible scenarios, your heart hammering in your chest; breath shallow.
Until, you felt soft fur.
You opened your eyes slowly, turning your head to watch as Dog rubbed his head under your hand, his tail wagging at high speeds. You blinked, pushing your head off of Daryl’s shoulder as you watched Dog. You felt a huge wave of relief flow over you, making you smile. With your own volition, you moved your hand, petting Dog’s head softly. He turned into your touch almost instantly, letting out a tiny sound as he pressed against your hand. He licked your fingers gently before licking your palm.
Your heart ached at how happy this dog made you feel. You didn’t understand it yourself; it wasn’t something you experienced often. It was as if, in that moment, all the stress you were carrying disappeared. The fear and anxiety that had been plaguing you disappeared with him. You could barely breathe as your stomach fluttered.
Leaning your head back on Daryl's shoulder, you sighed as you continued to pet Dog. "Thank you, D." You muttered happily.
He nodded his head, lightly squeezing your hand in his, "Knew ya could do it, sweetheart."
You smiled again. You could feel your cheeks growing warm, Dog whined softly from where he was now snuggled up against your hand; wanting more attention.

definitely a surpise: l. hughes
blurb: in which you and luke introduce the daughter the world never even knew you had to the nhl. / word count: 1.3k / pairing: luke hughes x fem!reader
To be fair, the decision had been made way before the two of you had even considered the possibility of being (or even trying to become) pregnant; instead, it was a comment that had sparked a long winded conversation on the dock of the Hughes Family lake house in New Hampshire, and that had you and Luke coming to a final consensus: if you were to have children together, mini-Lukes and mini-Y/Ns, the child wouldn’t be introduced into the world of the National Hockey League until they were a year old.
Now, while the decision might have sounded easy and obvious, it wasn’t until a few months later after our wedding that we had found out we were pregnant, and preparation for Hughes Baby Number 1 was quite the spectacle— one that usually involved Luke finding you in the stands of the Prudential Center, covered head to toe in clothing that hid your baby bump— right until it became a bit too obvious to his teammates, and it was decided that instead, your would spend your time watching the game either from the Center’s family suite, or from the comfort of your own shared home. Naturally, the latter won out almost instantaneously.
Despite the onslaught of media harassment that Luke and you had received in the aftermath of your absence from his games— comments from fans who mentioned that I wasn’t being supportive enough or even a good partner to him, the pregnant went as good as we had hoped— and, a few months later, Marnie Wren Hughes was born— a name that was a mix of both of our mother’s names, and whose middle name was a play on Luke’s own middle name, swapping out “Warren” for a simplified version of “Wren.”
Marnie was an angel child, truly. Sure, she was attached to the hip with Luke because of how much he had to travel for games and roadies, but she was a Momma’s Girl at heart— constantly around you, and always around in her stroller, or toddling around your office at the university.
As your baby’s first birthday came along, however, Luke and you once again found yourselves in a bit of a predicament. Just like her uncle, Marnie had a May birthday— putting it right smack in the middle of playoff season for the Devils, and leaving the two of you to think about what you could do with that. Would it be time to introduce the baby you two had and watched grow for over a year to the world? Hell, not even half of Luke’s team even knew about Marnie, despite the fact that Luke had been playing with the team for over five years now.
Despite this, we knew it was time; since it was her birthday, both your parents and Luke’s would be in Jersey visiting for her birthday party, and with the Canucks having lost in the second round of their own playoff games, Quinn would be taking a flight out to join the Y/L/N-Hughes family for the party as well, so it truly gave you the best opportunity to take Marnie out, surrounded by her family, to her first Devils game— and, for all intents and purposes, introduce her to the world her father thrived in.
When the day came, however, you readied the newly one-year-old in a tiny version of Luke’s jersey, with the “43” taking up the majority of her back. She looked, in so many ways, (but especially clad in the classic red and black colors,) like her dad; like the man who had given you the opportunity to be a mom to such an angel baby, and experience things like this in the first place.
As the game began and team warmups commenced, you saw Luke look around the stadium quickly, easily finding you and the child in your arms waving at him alongside his own family. Signaling to Jack to join him, the two skated over to where you stood— sporting the same jersey Marnie did, and the ring on your hand to prove it.
As Luke got near, Marnie, excited to see her dad, yelled in her baby voice, “Daddy!” leaving both you and Luke, who had stopped mid-skate, a bit dumbfounded. Sure she was a year-old already, but talking in full words? Especially since she had only ever called you Mama” and Luke “Dada” before?
Seemingly pulled out of his stupor by the wiggling child in your arms, Marnie stretched her arms out toward Luke, now catching the attention of other players and audience members around you— all of which must have been wondering why this child was calling Luke “Daddy,” and where she had even come from to begin with.
Peeling off his gloves, Luke grabbed her into his arms as both Nico and Mercer came skating over, the latter obviously trying to find out who the child was. Even the jumbo screen, which usually held on to Kiss Cams and commercials, was pointed at the scene of Luke carrying Marnie in his arms, now peppering her tiny face in kisses as she babbled and yelled “Papa” over and over at him.
Pulling away from the two, you got out your phone to take a picture of the sight— the love of your life carrying the other love of your life, all while they both experienced something entirely new; Luke having his daughter at a game, and Marnie, experiencing the cheers of the game her dad gave his all to.
After the game though, as the Devils swept the Rangers 9-2 with three points from Luke and two assists from both Haula and Jack, you counted the amount of times that one or more Devils had skated to your piece of glass and waved at Marnie, catching the baby’s attention as they pseudo-met the youngest Hughes child for the first time. From Marino to Schmid, one by one the Devils found themselves cooing at the baby from across the glass— all star struck in a way at the child who had called their defenseman “Daddy,” but all enamored by her curls and Y/E/C eyes that were clearly traits she inherited from both you and Luke alike.
After, however, you were both ushered into the locker room, automatically surrounded by baby-fever induced coos from Luke’s teammates as Marnie was swept out of your arms— first by Jack, and then by Nico, and then finally finding herself back in Luke’s arms as each member shared their surprise that, one— Luke had a literal child, and two, that you both had kept it under wraps for so long.
“Well, it was a decision we both made before Marnie was even a thought,” you told Bastian, who was playing peek-a-boo with the squirming toddler, and who had asked how he hadn't known of her before tonight.
“We kind of wanted it to be a surprise, and then we just didn’t want her to only ever remember the bad parts about hockey, you know? But big day for the Hughes family now,” Luke added. “Big day, sweetheart,” he told Marnie, bouncing her up and down with one arm while she played with his fingers of his opposite hand.
“Well, except me,” Jack interjected. “Now I can finally show you guys the pictures of MarnieBear when she was a baby! God— you should see how much Lukey cried when she was born,” he said, leading off to join Nico and Lazar as he whipped out his phone, most likely pulling out the one photo he took of Luke with a newborn Marnie, tears of happiness streaming down his face as he held his little girl in his arms— her in one, and you in the other.
“Well, that was definitely a surprise,” I told him, putting your arm around his waist. The defenseman only looked down at me, smiling at both me and our daughter— yeah, it was definitely the right decision.

Tumblr media
for the final week of holidays, she and max traveled back to europe, wanting to get used to the time difference.
they’d rented a villa in spain so max’s family could join them. ever since she met max’s mom and sister, they welcomed her in their lives, first as his friend and then as his everything.
someone who she was excited to meet were his nephews. due to conflicting schedules between all of them she hadn’t had the chance to meet max’s mini twins yet. but from the pictures max had proudly shown her, she was already in love with them.
“mom says they just landed,” max announced as he walked out to the garden, where she sat by the edge of the pool, her legs in the water. “they’ll be here in like two hours,”
“and the boys?” she asked immediately, her hand reaching for his once he sat next to her.
“fell asleep during the plane ride, but vic says they’re excited.”
“exicted to see you,” she guessed, a smile making its way to her face. “i can’t wait to meet them. you think they’ll like me?”
“of course they’ll like you!” he chuckled, throwing an arm over her shoulders, “they’re the sweetest boys,”
“i know. and i know you love them to death, that’s why i worry that-”
“you don’t have to worry. they’ll love you. okay?”
“okay,” she nodded, placing her head on max’s shoulder.
-
she stayed back as she watched max embrace his sister, she looked gorgeous as ever, with her two boys on a double stroller. max let go of her, kneeling in front of his nephews as he undid the belts. victoria went outside to grab her and the boys’ bags just as luka jumped out, wrapping his tiny arms around max’s neck, which caused max to fall on his back with the boy on top of him. she chuckled, noticing how lio wanted to get out of the stroller as well. she walked to him, kneeling next to max and luka as max sat up, and helped lio, placing him on her lap. luka noticed her, and she could feel his curious eyes on her.
“hi, luka.” she smiled at him, reaching for his hand. the boy leaned against max.
“it’s okay. this is (y/n), she wants to be your friend,” max explained, his voice soft as he spoke to his nephew, meanwhile the youngest boy had taken great interest in her bracelets and was playing with them. luke looked up at max, and her breath got caught in her throat as she saw the resemblance between the two, well, three of them. big blue eyes, chubby cheeks, the same blonde hair.
“friend?” the boy repeated, or tried to, and the two adults nodded. “we play?” he asked.
“of course, we can play whatever you want to.” she smiled, nodding. the baby on her lap started fuzzing, so she had to turn her attention to him. “and i can play with you too, lio. we’ve got time,”
-
the quiet of the villa when it was just the two of them had disappeared. now there was music, laughter and the sound of two small boys playing with their uncle. it had been two days, and her fears of the boys not liking her were long gone. after the shyness of the first meeting, luka had quickly trusted her and handed her toys so she’d play with him. first, max had been there to make sure the boy knew he was safe with her, but with time luka felt enough at ease to do it himself.
things were easier with the younger boy, as long as she kept him entertained, he was fine with spending time with her.
a few days before their time in spain was up, victoria and her boyfriend announced they had to leave earlier than expected, and (y/n) could tell that max was feeling pretty down about it. just the day before, they’d made plans to take the boys to the beach, just the four of them.
“we’ll have other chances,” she told max, running her fingers through his hair, pushing it away from his face. it was late, everyone was asleep, but max kept turning on the bed, and she knew something was up.
“i know,” he nodded, “i was just really looking forward to it, and i’d promised them i’d take them. they didn’t even see the things we got them,”
“well, we can still go to the beach just us,” she tried to lift his spirits up, her insides turning at how much he truly cared about keeping his promise to his nephews. “it won’t be the same, i know, but we’ll see them again next week. and the next,” max’s two home races were one after the other, and his whole family agreed to be there to support him. “you should sleep, we’ll figure something out tomorrow. okay?”
“yeah,” he sighed, placing a kiss on her shoulder.
“just remember that the boys will love you even if you don’t take them to the beach,”
“i know,” he sighed, throwing his arm over her, pulling her close so her back was against his chest.
-
“leave the boys,” was the first thing max told his sister the next morning.
“what?” she frowned, as she zipped up her bag.
“the boys. leave them here, with me and (y/n).”
“and you’re going to take care of them? two boys under two?” she raised her eyebrows.
“i mean… i’ve done it before,” he shrugged.
“for like… fifteen minutes,”
“please! i wanted to take them to the beach today, and we bought them some new toys and stuff for the beach,”
“i don’t know, i-”
“we’ll take good care of them! i promise. they’ll have the best time. and you can take care of whatever you have to without having to worry about them.”
“oh, i will worry,” max rolled his eyes at his sister, making her laugh. “why are you so adamant about this?”
“it’s just… i’ve missed them.” he shrugged, “and they’re starting to open up to (y/n)...”
“and?” his sister urged him to continue, sensing there was still something he wasn’t telling her.
“and i like… seeing her with them. and if we take care of the boys it might… we’ll have some practice- for… our future,”
“max,” the younger verstappen’s eyes went wide, “you want to have kids?” she couldn’t hold back a smile, having children was a topic max always avoided whenever he could, she was surprised that this time he was the one bringing it up.
“i- not right now, obviously. but maybe… one day? if she wants to,”
“but do you want to?”
“i- i… with her, yes. only with her… i want everything with her. and- i know it’s soon, so, so soon, but- i’ve never felt this way before. it’s hard to explain.”
“you’re in love.” she smiled, placing a hand on her brother’s shoulder.
“i think i’ve loved her since the day i met her, it’s… everything is easy with her. and i feel like as long as she’s by my side i can… do anything. everything.”
“oh, max,” victoria smiled, wrapping her arms around her older brother, “i’m so happy for you. you deserve to be happy, and-”
“vic! vic, vic, i have an idea!” their moment was interrupted by (y/n), who ran into the room, holding both boys in her arms. she in her tracks as she saw the siblings embrace each other. “shit! sorry, i’ll be back later!”
“no, it’s okay. what’s up?” victoria said, keeping an arm around her brother’s shoulders.
“i was thinking… what if we, max and i, take care of the boys for you?” she raised her eyebrows, “that way they can still enjoy the beach and you’ll have a few days to yourselves,” her smile was wide, as if she’d just come up with the greatest plan.
victoria sent her brother a knowing glance.
“i think that’s a wonderful idea. what do you say lio? luka? you’ll stay with uncle max and auntie (y/n)?”
-
“boys are buckled in. snacks are packed. toys are ready. we’ve got sunscreen, water, diapers. i think we’re ready,” she said, closing the door once she got in.
“let’s go then. who wants to go to the beach?” max asked his nephews, turning his head back to look at them. he was happy to see them smiling, dressed in swimming shorts, sunglasses on.
he started the car, the ac blasting on, music playing. she’d added a playlist victoria made of songs the boys liked to her phone, and was surprised to see so many of her own songs in it.
after the first few beats of her song, luke started mumbling, trying to say the words, following the rhythm.
“you like that, luka?” she smiled as she looked back, the boy’s blue eyes shining as he kept singing, his legs kicking in excitement. “oh, you’re my favorite boys!” she turned back to look at max, “he knows my songs!” she chuckled, grabbing her phone to record the moment. “sing it, luka, you too, lio!” she laughed, and started singing too. luka stopped mumbling, a frown on his face as he heard her voice. “it’s me, luka! i’m the one singing,”
“he’s starstruck,” max laughed, checking through the rear-view mirror. “keep singing,” max said as he turned the volume down, “i like hearing you sing, too.”
“ah, for private performances you need to contact my manager,” she snickered, turning the phone towards max to record his eyeroll.
“you didn’t say anything last night when we pulled out that performance-”
“max! there are children present,” she laughed, as she stopped recording, looking at him, “i swear,” she shook her head.
“oh, you love it. you love me,” he said, keeping one hand on the wheel, the other one finding hers.
“that i do.” she nodded. she gripped his hand,  looking out the window, seeing the beach approaching.
-
once they picked a perfect spot on the beach, they got all of their things out, sitting the boys on a large beach towel under a sunshade. a stark difference from their relaxation spot in hawaii.
“don’t you two look adorable! look here, we need proof for your mom that you guys are actually having fun,” she grabbed her phone and started taking pictures and videos of them. “there. see? it’s not that hard!”
“or maybe it’s just they’re the greatest boys ever,” max said as he sat down, grabbing lio and sitting him on his lap.
“ooh, i think it’s time for presents, what do you think?” she said, grabbing a bag where they’d stuffed everything they’d gotten the boys back in hawaii. floaties, things to play with the sand, and two mini surfboards.
“i think we should test these out,” max said grabbing lio’s green surfboard, the baby slapped his hands on the surface, “he agrees,” he smiled, “i told you they’d like them.”
“yeah, i know,” she nodded, “now come on, everybody, let’s put on sunscreen and we can get in the water.” she clapped her hands, reaching for it. once luka was covered in it, she passed the bottle to max, who struggled a bit more with little lio. “here,” she said, sitting luka on her lap and grabbing lio’s hand. she started singing, which distracted the eight-month-old baby, so max could apply a thick layer of sunscreen to his youngest nephew. “team work. we’ve got this, baby,” she chuckled, leaning forward to place a kiss on max’s cheek. “last ones to reach the water lose,” she rushed the words out, grabbing luka’s orange surfboard and running towards the water.
luka started laughing, his little excited laughter gave her butterflies in her stomach. she’d never been the best with kids, but these two were absolute angels. the resemblance to max was a plus.
“cheat!” max yelled from behind her, lio’s giggle were so loud too. she dared one look back, seeing them closer than she expected.
“nooo, come on, luka, we’ve gotta beat them,” she said, running faster and holding onto the boy a little tighter. “just a few more steps,” she set the boy down so he could run with her. he squealed at the feeling of the sand against his feet, refusing to keep on walking as he enjoyed the cold sand against his skin. “luka, come on,” she chuckled but the boy sat on his bum, grabbing fistfuls of sand, spreading it over his legs. “looks like we’re playing with sand first,” she smiled, shaking her head as she sat with her legs crossed beneath her. “change of plans,” she looked up to see max and lio approach them.
“luka, let’s go in the water, come on.” max tried to convince his oldest nephew to get up, but he was too enthralled by the cold and wet sand.
“you two go ahead, we’ll play here for a bit, yeah?” she suggested, squinting, having forgotten her sunglasses with the rest of their stuff.
“you sure? we can all stay here and-” max started, but she shook her head.
“i want to see lio on his surfboard. we’ll meet you there in a bit, yeah?” she stood up, sliding her arms around his waist, max wrapped his free arm around her shoulders, bringing her to him and placing his lips on hers. she hummed into the kiss, but it was cut short by lio slapping their cheeks. “okay, mister, no need to be impatient,” she pinched his cheek.
she sat next to luka, watching out for him as he played freely. in the water, max was trying to keep lio up as he pulled the board with one hand.
“look at your brother,” she pointed ahead, luka followed her finger, “yay lio!” she clapped for him, and the oldest boy imitated her. she laughed, leaning forward to kiss his temple. “you’re such a good boy, luka.”
max looked at them, and he felt his chest getting warm. if she was this kind and caring about his nephews he couldn’t imagine how she’d be like with their own little nuggets one day.
“let’s keep catching waves, lio, we’ll get there.” max ran his hand through his youngest nephew’s hair, keeping him pressed against his chest with that arm, pulling the board with his free hand.
-
hours passed, and at some point during the day they switched kids. they played with the boys in the water, using their toys and fun floaties. when the oldest boy started getting tired max carried him out. after changing him out of his wet clothes, max sat with luka on his lap as the boy ate some watermelon, whilst she walked with lio in her arms. once luka was done eating, he leaned his head against max’s chest, his eyelids getting heavy by the second.
“you sleepy, buddy?” max asked, kissing the top of his head. luka only cuddled closer to him. “come here, let’s sleep for a bit, yeah?” max lied down on his back, placing his nephew on top of him, max closed his eyes once luka’s breathing got even, deep.
“look at this, lio!” she squealed, placing the boy down and sitting next to him. she moved some sand away, grabbing what she’d spotted. “it’s a seashell! here,” she handed it to him. he wrapped his tiny fingers around it, inspecting it. “it’s pretty, isn’t it?” she smiled as he brought his hand down, chucking some of it away like she’d done. “let’s go find some more, than we can bring some for uncle max and luka, yeah?” she extended her arms, the boy crawling to her. “good boy, lio.” she chuckled when the boy crawled to her lap, his hands on her shoulders. “come on, let’s find more seashells,”
once the sun started going down she thought it was a good time to head home. after getting a few handfuls of seashells she walked back to the spot where max and luka were waiting for them, with lio perched on her hip.
“they’re asleep, lio,” she whispered to the boy, “don’t they look adorable?” she sighed, noticing max’s protective hand on luka’s back, “i think it’s time for an outfit change and a little snack,” she sat next to the sleeping verstappens, lying the baby on the towel, changing him. after that she sat him on her lap. she reached for the cooler where they were keeping all their food and drinks, taking lio’s water bottle and a jar of baby food out.
once she was done feeding lio. max stirred, frowning as he opened his eyes.
“hey, sleeping beauty,” she laughed as max pressed his hands against his face, being careful with the sleeping boy on top of him.”i think we’re all a little tired,” she said as the baby on her lap yawned. “think we should call it a day?” she asked.
“yeah, i don’t think i can drive like this, though,” he chuckled, looking at her. “you look really pretty,”
“i’m a mess.” she shook her head. “lio and i picked these for you,” she said as she pointed to the sea shells sitting on the other side of the towel.
“thank you. and no, you look… at peace.”
“after spending the day with two under two running around at the beach?” she chuckled, “i don’t know if i would call it peace. although it wasn’t as bad as i had thought, i had fun. and i think they had fun, too.”
“yeah. i think so too. parenting isn’t that hard after all.” max smiled.
“right? we’ve so got this.”
“yeah, we do.” his smile changed, he pursed his lips, deep in thought.
“one day, though. not now,”
“yeah. one day.” he agreed.
“good. now… let’s get these boys home, i think the car ride will help them sleep some more.”
“yeah, with the sun and the water, i think they’ll sleep through the entire night.”
“like i said, we’ve so got this parenting thing,” she smiled, proud of herself.
-
once everything was packed in the car, she sat behind the wheel, a still sleepy max next to her. she turned on the car, lowering the volume of the music. the ac started blasting on, but she turned it off, choosing instead to let the breeze cool them all as she pressed a button to roll the windows down.
“smells like salt,” max smiled, turning to face her.
“you don’t like it?” she asked, he shook his head.
“i do. it’s just… peculiar. for some reason i didn’t notice it until now.”
“that’s cause you were smelling babies all day,” she laughed, leaving the beach behind as she drove away. he didn’t reply, only smiled as he turned the volume up a bit, just loud enough to recognize the song.
max fell asleep to the sound of her singing softly.
she had to deal with three grumpy verstappens once they got home.

Un bébé à Paris
A little blurb inspired by Jack’s trip to Paris ❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Traveling with Jack wasn’t always relaxing, with fans swarming him wherever he went, but when you mentioned that you wanted to spend a few days sightseeing in Paris after his work commitments were done, he pulled out all of the stops including hiring additional body guards to follow the three of you around the city.
Brooklyn had just turned one, and probably wouldn’t remember this trip, but Jack would and there was nothing he loved more than seeing his best friend smile.
****
“Alright, on three, say cheese!” Jack called out to you as you stood with Brooklyn in front of the Eiffel tower. “Brook, look over at Daddy!”, you pointed to where Jack was standing, Brooklyn’s face immediately lighting up when she saw her favorite person. She gave her best gummy smile while Jack took a couple of photos. After three minutes of standing in one spot, you were ready to move on.
“Babe, I think that’s enough.” You laughed, walking over to place Brooklyn back in her stroller.
“Sorry, I’m just trying to get one where her eyes aren’t closed”, he replied while scrolling through the photo album on his phone. “I’m sending these to the family group chat. My mom threatened to disown me if I didn’t send at least one pic of B a day.”
“You never told me what you had planned for today.” You turned to Jack, taking a bite of your crepe. Jack just shrugged, a sly smile on his face.
“You’ll see.”
****
Along the way you stopped to take a picture of the Notre Dame, turning around to see Jack bouncing Brooklyn on his hip while he tried to feed her a piece of croissant. She immediately rejected it, scrunching her face in disgust.
“Poor baby is teething.” You ripped off a piece of the croissant and pressed it against her gums so she could chew it. She grunted in delight.
Off in the distance you could hear someone calling Jack’s name in a distinctive French accent. You turned to see a group of young girls rushing over to where Jack was standing, phones in hand. One of the body guards stopped them, trying to corral the eager fans.
“I’ll tell them no if you want me to.” Jack looked at you, his curls falling perfectly over his rimless glasses. He knew how much this trip meant to you, and it was supposed to be one of the few times you didn’t have to compromise for his work.
You held out your hands to take Brooklyn. “Just be quick.”
Jack ran over to the girls, took a couple of selfies and chatted with them for a couple of minutes. You smiled watching him in his element. You didn’t like every aspect of his career, especially when it took him away from you, but he was such a kind soul and would stop for every fan if he could.
****
Jack had planned a private tour of the Louvre for just the three of you that afternoon, but first he had a stop to make along the way.
You recognized it immediately: the Love Lock Bridge, a spot in the middle of Paris where hundreds of couples wrote their names on a lock, placed it on the bridge and threw the key into the Seine.
“Baby, we should have gotten a lock for us.” You groaned out as you looked at the gold locks glistening in the sun.
“Actually…” you turned to Jack who pulled a gold lock out of his pocket. He handed it to you, the front engraved with both of your names and the date of your wedding. You turned it over to see Brooklyn’s name on the back with her birthdate and the words ‘our love, our heart, our world’. You ran your fingers over the engravings, tears brimming in your eyes.
“I can’t believe you thought to do this.” You looked up at Jack.
“I wanted this to be a trip that we wouldn’t forget. One day when we take Brooklyn back to Paris when she’s older, we’ll take her here. We know our love is meant to last a lifetime, and now we’ll always have a physical reminder of that.”
You pulled him in for a kiss, Brooklyn giggling when Jack turned to pepper her face with kisses as well.
“You and Brooklyn are the best things to ever happen to me, I would be nothing without you. I love you so much.”
Jack took Brooklyn from you, adjusting her to balance on his arm so she had a perfect view of the river.
“I think you’re supposed to make a wish.” Jack winked at you as you walked to the edge of the bridge. You placed the lock on an empty spot, clicking it close and removing the key. Without a second thought, you immediately threw the key into the river, watching it sink to the bottom.
“Wait, but you didn’t make a wish.” Jack rushed over just as the key hit the water.
“I had nothing else to wish for. Everything I could have ever dreamed of I already have in you two.”

What is Michi like as a parent?
Tumblr media
Michi is very gentle natured, that wouldn’t change much as a parent
She would have baby in her room for convenience for feedings and she just wants him there. So no point in a nursery for the first year
Co-sleeps. She tries not to do it too often because it’s not the safest thing when he’s so little. But he does have a travel bassinet she can place him in on the bed
Does more baby wearing than putting him in a stroller. The only time he’s in a stroller is if she’s jogging
Calls Madara for advice if Mugen is being particularly fussy because he’s strangely knows a lot of baby things
She believes “it takes a village”, so she’d make sure everyone in their lives is familiar with Mugen and he respects them.
Sets up times to visit all four grandparents
Never expects him to be perfect but ask that he always tries his best
Doesn’t correct people when they think he’s a girl. She doesn’t care what others think, he looks cute
Does yoga with him
Cuddles and hugs him a lot
Tells him his beauty mark on his forehead is an angel kiss from grandfather Hizashi while the one on his mouth was to remind him to use his voice in life.
Let’s him run around barefoot and self dressed despite disapproval from some of the older Hyuga. “He’s a little kid. lighten up.”
Very enthusiastic about the horrid little kid drawings he makes for her
Brings Mugen to visit Neji, Hinata, and Hanabi
Also takes him to parks regularly for fresh air and wild life
Has some issues speaking up for herself, but tries hard to be heard for Mugen’s sake.
Definitely has a bag filled with everything from snacks to bandaids and more. She doesn’t want to be unprepared for things.
As he grows she’d mark his height on a doorframe sort of forced Tenten, Neji, and Lee (and the rest of Neji’s men) to get measured too so Mugen can see how tall everyone is and muses with him how tall he’ll be one day
She’s signing him up for jui-jitsu at an early age because learning martial arts gave her a lot more confidence and it’s a good form of self discipline/defense
Tells him to respect his elders but, they should be be respectful him too. It goes both ways
Encourages him to be nice to his classmates and friends
She’d teach him how to skateboard with Chiha and Tenten. This is their little secret because grandfather Hiashi might actually have a heart attack
Also let him work out with Lee and Neji
Plays restaurant with him and thinks it’s so cute how he tries so hard to be a waiter and gets huff if she or anyone else says something about their “order”
Once he starts at the academy, she’ll cry. HE’S JUST A BABY (he’s literally 4)
Also crying happily at all his accomplishments
Preteen - teen would be hard on her. Not because he’s a bad kid, he’d be a very respectable young man, he’s just really not a baby anymore and very independent. He also is a genius and would end up graduating early. Sending her young teen to college wasn’t on her bingo card 🥲
Still makes him his lunches and ruffles his hair.
Probably does that embarrassing face cleaning thing some moms do still
Definitely the “who’s your friend?” “You should ask them out!😃” mom if she sees he’s expressing interest in anyone.

I moved to my current city a year and a half ago knowing no one except my family. For various reasons I was super busy when I first moved, and then I was traveling most of this past summer, so I haven’t made many local friends.
But how do I make friends while hosting? I’m single and I can’t hire a babysitter, so when I’m hosting, I can’t do things unless I take the kids with me. But most activities aren’t kid-friendly, and I never know when kids will be here, which makes it impossible to plan. I’m going to get a jogging stroller so I can go to some running clubs, but one of them meets too late at night for it to work when I have kids. I can’t commit to a book club because who knows if I’ll be able to go. Last weekend I had plans with a friend I haven’t seen in ages, but I ended up cancelling because Coco and Charlie were here and I needed to keep them a few hours longer while their mom dealt with some stuff. Asking for respite so I can go to book club feels ridiculous, and evening respite on a weeknight would be more trouble than it’s worth anyways.
Of course a possible solution is to make friends with parents, but I don’t know how to do that either. My placements are too short to join any kind of parenting group. Also… I’m in my mid-20s, which is really young compared to the average age of people having kids in my neighborhood. If I host an 8 year old, it would be totally normal for their friends’ parents to be 20 years older than I am, which feels like an insurmountable age gap.
Not to mention that hosting is very different from parenting. Other Safe Families hosts might be possible friends, except Safe Families is a Christian organization (the only way in which it’s worse than foster care, imo) and the other families in my area seem religious in a way that doesn’t mesh with my queer agnostic feminist self.
And then life stages is a whole separate issue. I was a very Type A college student and then there was a pandemic, so I’ve never really “gone out.” I want to catch up a little — nothing wild, but it would be fun to dance at a bar sometime. Ok, great, lots of 20-somethings want to do that… but I also want to talk about screen time oversight and the best local parks. Meanwhile the 35+ folks seem to be mostly married and “settled.” So even if I had time to make friends, I’d need to either find a unicorn of a person who’s interested in both sides of my life or come up with two separate friend groups.
How do other people do this??

An Education in Attraction, Chapter 9
Tumblr media
Pairing: Reader x Gojo
Summary: It's spring when you start your Master's degree. As the flowers and leaves unfold, so too do your feeling for Gojo
Warnings: mild swearing, kissing, making out, heavy petting, grinding
Previous Chapters: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Ao3: PlaidSparrow
The relief is overwhelming that editing is all you have left to do on the project. Since your last meeting a couple weeks ago, you had each managed to type up the remaining citations and examples into the draft individually. With the end of the term in sight, free time to get together has been in short supply.
Your Learning Theories class has a massive test at the end of the term, but your number one priority is finishing strong with the Curriculum project. The hours of research and collaboration have made for a dense, but very strong paper.
Last night after your class at the Eikaiwa school, you’d texted Gojo about finding time to complete the edits, and he’d quickly answered that he would be free today. You both agreed that given how busy you’ve been that it will be best to knock out the revisions in one fell swoop.
Time isn’t the only scarce resource either- since the end of term is approaching for the entire college, the library and study spaces on and around campus have been packed lately. Since you're living in a small student dorm on campus, Satoru offered his apartment for the job.
His address is in one of the ritzier parts of town and you decide to take a short ride on the metro there. You board and admire the city as the train speeds away.
This part of the city is new to you- you admire the elegant stretch of buildings here. There’s plenty of foot traffic despite the heat too- families pushing strollers and children playing in groups. The train stops and you check the directions on your phone to walk the short distance to Gojo’s place.
He meets you outside his luxe apartment building and scans a card in the elevator to reach the proper floor. Gojo seems as breezy and easygoing as ever, dressed down with thin rimmed shades.
Since he’s seen where you live, you can’t deny your curiosity to see his apartment. There’s only a couple other units on this floor, all dark wood and sleek chrome finishes. Gojo walks halfway down the hall and unlocks his door, letting you enter first.
His accommodations are simple but welcoming. The blinds are drawn over the windows, leaving the interior softly lit. You step in, slip off your shoes, and take in the rest of his space. The walls are blank except for a tv on the far wall, but there's an upholstered loveseat with some soft looking blankets folded over the back. The kitchen stands to the right and there's a hallway to the rest of the apartment on the left. It doesn't look terribly lived in, but you suppose that's to be expected if the owner is traveling and working often.
"Take a seat, I'm gonna grab my computer," Gojo locks the front door then calls as he heads down the hall.
You debate for a moment whether to sit on the couch or at his dining table, but you know polishing the paper will take a while, and the couch looks worlds more comfortable. You pull out your computer and bring up the paper as Gojo returns and settles next to you. You glance up at him, about to ask where he’d like to start, but you freeze when you see his face.
His eyes, rather. The sunglasses are off and his eyes are sparkling with amusement as he watches your reaction. You haven’t seen his eyes since the first day of classes and you weren’t nearly this close to him last time. You’re struck again by how beautiful they are and you lose your train of thought.
“See somethin you like?” he asks.
You're staring. Again. Your face is warm but you aim for nonchalant when you respond.
"I'd like to get this project done." You snap your eyes to your computer screen and pointedly ignore him until he sets up his own laptop beside you.
"Yeah, yeah. We both know the paper is great. We shouldn’t need to do much editing."
It is a great paper. The two of you have woven together your teaching subjects artfully, finding unexpected parallels in the fields. It’s comfortable to fall into the working rhythm you’ve established, and Gojo is right. The changes you’ve made along the way and the way you’ve aligned the subject matter means there aren’t any glaring problems, you can just read through the material with fresh eyes and talk through polishing where the piece can use it.
In a comfortable silence while you’re proofreading, you glance over at Gojo. Sitting side by side, you admire his side profile. It’s nice to see his face unobstructed. You clear your throat.
“So… why do you usually wear sunglasses?”
“I was wondering when you were gonna ask me. My eyes are just sensitive. It’s hard to concentrate when the sun is blinding me.”
You recall when he shut the blinds the first time you met him in the library and how dim his apartment seems.
“I would have chosen less bright study spots if I had known.” You murmur, and Gojo smiles at you. It’s softer than the grin he usually flashes.
Hours pass in the blink of an eye as you edit the phrasing and nitpick sentences. You're proud of the writing you’ve done together, and eager to receive feedback on the project. The course has covered tons of material and considerations for building a proper curriculum, and your professor’s responses on smaller assignments have been illuminating and constructive. It’s extremely satisfying to see the full paper before you.
When you reach the conclusion, Gojo pushes the computer from his lap onto the coffee table and leans back to recline on the couch, giving you a crooked grin.
"We're just about done."
"Finally.” You sigh. “I don't think I can write a single more word about the proper workload for high school students." You shut your laptop.
"I think this calls for some celebration."
Before you can respond, Gojo is on his way into the kitchen and returns with a box of anko daifuku. He pops one of the sweets in his mouth and puts the rest onto the coffee table.
He slides back on to the loveseat- near enough that you can feel the heat of his arm nearly brushing yours, much closer than he had been when he left. While you were working together, it hadn’t felt uncomfortable, but you’re hyper aware of the space between your bodies now.. You swallow and shift so that you're facing him, giving yourself a little room to breathe.
Gojo leans toward you and you look up into his face. His expression is soft, and his face is uncharacteristically open. You're pinned by his eyes staring into yours.
You can see the different shades of blue and his thick white lashes. Your heart is hammering and you can barely breathe as he stops millimeters from you. You feel like you're caught in a whirlpool, in a black hole, headed straight for the center.
His eyes glance down to your lips and your heart stops. When he looks back up into your eyes, he smiles gently, and the corners of his eyes crinkle. He comes closer to you.
"Wow," his breath ghosts across your face, lips almost touching yours, "you do like me."
Before you can respond, his lips are on yours. The first kiss is gentle, his warm lips brushing softly with yours. You’re shocked into stillness at first, but after a moment your eyes flutter shut and you softly move your lips against his.
You feel electric, mouth buzzing from the sugar on his lips. Blood is rushing in your ears and as he kisses you again you sigh into his mouth. The times you’d covertly admired him or thought about the possibility of something more than a professional academic relationship are immediately rekindled. You can hardly believe this is happening.
Gojo slots his lips against yours and expertly teases you. His mouth is soft and pliant, and you find he is as good a partner in kissing as he is academically. You are wrapped in the scent of his cologne and your body feels overly sensitive, every pass of his lips experienced tenfold.
He deepens the kiss, tilting his head as one of his hands moves to cradle the back of your head. You open your lips and his tongue slides into your mouth, twining with your own and setting fire to your blood.
Then he's pulling back to give you some air and suddenly your hands are balled in his shirt, yanking yourself closer. It's all you can do to keep him near, to keep tasting him. You pull his face to yours and kiss his full lips as your hands roam up his lean chest and shoulders.
You run your hands through his fine white hair and he groans into your mouth. Between his hands roaming your waist and Gojo’s moan, you’re feeling intoxicatingly aroused. You can't tell if it's his idea or yours to shift you into his lap, but now you're straddling him and overwhelmed by him- his lips moving across your jawline and down your neck, his length pressing against your center, the heat of his hands sinking into your thigh and the small of your back.
God, his hands are huge and you want to melt in them, feel them all over your body. Just imagining what his skilled hands could do to you makes you feel desperate for more.
"Fuck," you mutter.
"Very eloquent."
You can feel him smiling into your skin and if you were any less turned on you'd quip back at him. As it is, his lips have reached the junction where your throat meets your neck and it's difficult to think about anything else. He leaves an open mouthed kiss on the tender spot and then sucks hard. Your head lolls back and you can't help but whine his name.
“Satoru.” His lips brush your neck as he speaks.
“What?” You don’t really want to concentrate on anything that isn’t his body.
“Call me Satoru.” he murmurs in your ear. Your heart stutters and your chest feels warm.
He meets your eyes again and this time they're simmering. His pupils are blown, nearly eclipsing the ring of blue that surrounds them. You wonder how you ever could have thought him stoic, you see his desire and warmth plainly.
His hands descend to your hips and his grip tightens, pulling you impossibly closer. You're both panting and you feel him hard beneath you. Everything else in the universe has evaporated- nothing matters but the man before you and his hands on your body.
You lean forward and roll your hips onto his erection.  His eyes flutter shut and he moans at the contact, head lolling onto the back of the couch. Your whole body feels hot. You grind onto him again and sigh at the pressure on your core.
"Satoru." Your whisper is tender and needy.
One hand palms your ass and the other creeps up under the back of your shirt. Your skin is burning as he caresses the skin on your back, and you wonder if you should remove your top altogether.
Satoru leans forward and brings your mouths together once again, your breath mingling together between open mouthed kisses. You rock onto his length and this time his hands move with you, increasing the pressure and giving just enough stimulation to your clit through your clothes.
You find a rhythm together, rolling your hips while Gojo urges your hips faster, harder. The kisses become messier as he pants and moans, as swept up in the sensations as you are.
You capture his lips again, wrapping your arms around his shoulders and neck when you feel a vibration coming from his pocket.
You pull away from the kiss. For a moment you just look at each other. His cool demeanor is cracked- his cheeks are flushed and his hair is a mess. You’re sure you don’t look any better, you feel disheveled and you’re still breathing hard. You seem to come to your senses first and start to shift off of his lap.
"Sorry, uhh, you can get that."
He stays still, looking at you, and his phone stops ringing. He opens his mouth to say something but is interrupted by the phone going off again.
"Shit. Just give me a second." He helps you off of him then walks down the hallway and answers the phone brusquely. You bring a hand to your swollen lips and wonder dazedly what his call is about. And whether he might want to resume what you had been doing before the call came through. Your brain feels hazy.
Your heart is still racing, so you take a deep breath and a gulp of water to calm yourself down. You don’t want to look desperate or rumpled when he comes back. Focusing on slowing your breathing, a couple minutes pass before Satoru returns. Whatever the call was, he looks a bit harried, his languid smile replaced by one that's more brittle.
He walks back over to the couch.  "Sorry bout that. I'm wanted at a conference on quantum mechanics in a couple weeks. Gotta get travel plans figured."
"That's alright, I know your time is in high demand." You give him a small smile. While you knew it wasn’t likely after the interruption, you were hoping he would come back into the room eager to pick up where you had left off.
Instead, he places himself on the opposite side of the couch and sighs. “Yea, it’s hard being so popular.”
The moment is over.
“Well, I should probably give you some time to plan everything then.” Your hands and voice are steady as you begin to pack up your things, even though your thoughts and heart are still racing.
“I’ll get things worked out. Just some minor edits in the conclusion and then we’ll be done.” Satoru stands up and watches you zip up your bag.
“Yea, just let me know when works for you, ok?”
You reach the front door and turn back to look at him as you say your farwell. As he leans against the jamb, his hair falls into his face, obscuring most of his expression. What you can see is carefully blank, obviously absorbed in the details of his now upcoming trip. Even as a so-called special case, balancing travel, presentations, school assignments and attendance is a lot to manage. You don’t want to intrude or add additional pressure to his busy schedule.
“For sure. I’ll see you later.” He gives you one last grin as you walk out the door.
You slowly walk down the stairs of his apartment complex and meander down the street to the metro station, lost in thought. The summer night is warm, but the station is nearly empty. As you board the train home, you replay everything that happened.
His low voice as he’d asked you to call him his given name echoes in your mind. The warmth that had bloomed in your stomach as he was kissing and caressing you. The way that he had pulled you in for kiss after kiss.
Until he had kissed you, you didn’t even realize how strongly you felt for Gojo. Satoru.
Although your partnership had had a rough start, you’d been able to work through his cockiness and earn his respect. It’s clear that you both have a passion for teaching and helping to better the future generation.
You don’t know where the two of you stand now.
It’s a bit unmooring. For months the meetings with Gojo have been a regular part of your schedule, and the easy friendship starting to grow between you has been a welcome addition to your community in Japan.
After what had happened at his apartment, your relationship will surely change. The possibility for more intimacy, more touches and kisses and more of him makes your stomach flutter. But the chance that he might pull away leaves you feeling surprisingly bereft. You can only hope that he feels the same way you do, and that this won’t be the end of your blooming connection.
