Chiron: Past/Early life wounds that need Healing

Hey y’all! Today I’m going to discuss how you can start your healing journey by doing shadow work with your Chiron placement and house.

Shadow work is just a new age term meaning working on healing your traumas and starting your inner growth journey. We’ll always have shadow work because we’re constantly growing and changing into hopefully the best versions of ourselves.

Chiron can be a really great way to start this journey. Why? Chiron in astrology represents the wounded healer. Which means this is the area that we were hurt the most in past lives and in this lifetime during our early stages (childhood, early teen) years. Chiron is our greatest lesson. And through our healing journey, we can help others on there’s too.

You have to get use to being the black sheep of your family. They don’t understand because they are carrying that trauma for several generations and here you are breaking that trauma. It’s like letting a toddler sit in front of the tv all day. When you shut it off to encourage playing outside, the toddler throws a hissy fit but you know it’s beneficial for them in the long run.

This full moon is in Virgo and that is your sister sign within the astrological signs. You are being called to release this full moon and you will physically feel this pull. Your body will be sending you messages of the things that you are either still attached to or is still attached to you. This will be a very detoxifying time for you Pisces. There was a lot of earth energy within your reading, meaning that you will be very grounded in all of this energy. Ironically you started off with ‘the Sun’ and ‘You’ll survive this’. Knowing that they have done so despite efforts to break the foundation of their youth by those whom they should have been able to trust is...infuriating.

It doesn’t matter that the Heralds quest is noble but futile before his own plans, or that their abuse at the hands of family is another link in the chain of his justification. The Rift Mage may intend to destroy this world in due course, but for the moment he has sworn his aid to their leader. And if that means calling on aid from both sides of the veil to ensure that they are kept safe he will do it gladly.

He was not called Dread, after all, for nothing.

Varric: Skyhold’s current author is resident has a theory he’s been working on for awhile now, and it can be summed up very simply: heroes aren’t formed without a tragic backstory. The Warden is a good example, and thanks to yours truly Hawke’s own grief stricken tale is well known. So finding out that the current leader of the largest paramilitary group in Thedas comes from what could arguably be called a broken home isn’t terribly surprising. You have to understand suffering, after all, to want to stop it.

That doesn’t make him any less happy about it, and while on the surface it looks like he only fumes quietly and writes a lot of letters...well, in reality that’s what he does. As tempting as the daydream of taking Bianca to the cruel and deluded backwater nobles who thought that abusing a child to form them into the proper image is, the start reality is that it wouldn’t accomplish much. But the Trevelyans are Free Marchers, and when the last link of Bertrand’s sanity snapped- and ended a chain of abuse that Varric frankly would like to avoid talking about- he inherited a sizable amount of power with the Merchant Guild. It means his influence is slightly less hands on, but he can hit the nobility where it really hurts.

And if they are ever stupid enough to try and continue their abuse in Skyhold? Then it’s Bianca’s turn to....influence.

Sera: Even big people can feel like little people when they are little and the people who are supposed to protect them act like complete shiteheads. And even when you aren’t little, being scared can make you feel little, yeah? The Inquisitor’s the biggest person around, but inside their like one of her little people-- and Sera protects her own. Pranks are nice, and she prefers arrows to talking endlessly, but this is more serious.

Working with the other Jennies can be complicated, and its even worse that she can’t just sketch it out like her network. The Baker who is her contact in Ostwick has a stick up his arse and wants proper correspondance, so she sits down and writes out what se wants, and then takes it to Dorian and has him add some stupid noble shine. 

Her other people will handle their end. And if they ever decide to show up there and go after her Herald? Arrows.

Vivienne: Abuse in noble houses is not an unknown event to the Lady of Iron, but long before her rise to court and intrigue Vivienne saw far too much of it in the circles. Mage children were all to often a bane to families-- destined to go to a circle they could not add to the house hold and could spell trouble if the family was caught hiding them. This all too often brewed resentment, and by the time Templars came to collect the youngsters a life locked behind stone walls away from all they had known was often a mercy.

But whether their Trevelyan inquisitor is a mage or not is of no consequence. The child who was no doubt once a whipping post for a noble family- to beat into a desired shape no matter the consequence- is now on a meteoric rise. And Madame de Fer knows enough about politics to suspect that their Herald’s family will not stay absent for long. Knowing this story of their early life may not be a surprise, but that does not mean the Imperial Enchantress intends to allow the Trevelyans access to her charge. Let them try to approach, if they dare.

They have not yet seen abuse.

Blackwall: He has caused enough suffering to children in his life without intent that can never be atoned for, and that haunts the would be Warden. Callier and his family had suffered and died, and while he had not meant it to happen he would carry the burden all his life. But the idea of tormenting a child purposefully, and doing it for months or years? It infuriates him. Thom Rainier was only ever a soldier, and Blackwall offers little more political clout. He has no network to call on, no secret societies to help get a revenge well earned.

But he has a sword, and a shield, and a willingness to protect their leader. If the Trevelyans ever come sniffing around, they will live just long enough to regret it.

Dorian: It would be almost criminal to compare a childhood of distant affection and disappointment to that of consistent and methodical abuse, and the Scion of House Pavus would bristle at the very idea that he had suffered any sort of ‘abuse’ at the hands of Halward Pavus. No matter the truth of what had happened, Dorian would much rather discuss what to do about their leader’s current situation than ancient history, thank you ever so much.

And if his palms sweat and his heart races when Sera brings him the news, and he has to force his mind to work to make sure her letter is what she wants when all his mind is screaming for is a bottle of wine and a few moments alone with his staff and the people who had tormented the gentle leader who had taken in a Tevinter despite perhaps better judgement, well. That is no business but his own. He will not act on it, not yet. But should the occasion call for the resident evil ‘Vint to stand between their Herald and the ones who just might haunt their own dreams?

Vitae Benefaria.

The Iron Bull: He’d known, of course. He’d known long before the intelligence left in dead drops detailed the open secret in Ostwick, before his own people could confirm what his eye had already told him. Abuse among children is almost unnheard of among the Qun-- Tamassrans are made so because they are intended for that role, and those who would not thrive caring for children are not put in the position of caring for them. But it was all too common among the Viddathari, and as a Ben-Hassrath trained in the minute detail of behavior and its causes a personality shaped in part by childhood abuse was not a hard thing for him to see signs of.

Of all the companions however, the Iron Bull is likely the only one among the Inner Circle to approach their leader. The thirst for revenge is all well and good on a personal level, but killing or maiming or even simply frightening the family of their leader might not be the best thing for someone who has likely never had the chance to deal with their childhood. It is painfully common for such things to be a secret kept through out a whole life, but in order to know the best steps to take against the potential abuser it’s vital to know the extent of the abuse.

Its a painful conversation, and he certainly brings alcohol no matter the inquisitor’s age. But by the end of it they can both agree on the best plan going forward, and that is exactly what Bull needs. Killing, threatening or leaving them be, he can roll with it. Asit Ta-leb.

(But later, if he needs time to recite the Cantos, to remind himself that there is no struggle, the tide rises and falls for hours before the Blood lust and instinct of a reaver to protect one’s own fades....well. That’s no ones business but his own.)

Cole: It hurts, and it tangles with other hurts in a knot. Pulling one string pulls the other strings, and not all of them hurt, and it confuses him. Sometimes there are happy times around the bad times, and sometimes the happy times are the bad times, and there’s too much to untangle to heal the hurt. He wants to kill the ones who caused the bad times and the pain, but they are the same ones who caused the good times. He’s lost He wants to help. But helping can hurt. 

So he finds them a hat, because hats are good. And it helps.

My Delve Into Tarot With A Proper Guide: Day 8

I’m using a Radiant Rider-Waite Deck along with the pamphlet that came with it, and The Only Tarot Book You’ll Ever Need by Skye Alexander and Mary Shannon. I am also using internet resources.

This is going to be my last daily post for awhile because my christian mother decided that my tarot cards give her “icky feelings” so now all I can do to practice my spirituality is light a candle or practice in the middle of the night and hope I don’t get caught- if my sedatives would let me stay up that long.

Our relationship sprouted from a seed planted in childhood, we were good friends and my heart sparked the day I met him. When we were young we shared creativity and soft affections. There was a period of time that we were separated l. When he came back I was nervous but the seed that we had planted remembered. The structures of friendship and loyalty remained. During our time apart we grew and met a level of our potential. He was my safe place. Presently we commingle harmoniously and we are matured now in comparison from where we began. We are content to wait and see what the future holds for us as a couple, as we work individually on ourselves in the meantime. The Divine are watching over us. As I continue to connect with the divine, I feel their influence on me and how I am growing into my potential, as a wife. The daddy, the issue and what’s so great about walking into the fire.

The daddy

When I was 10 years old, my father broke my heart.

As I watched him marry his third wife, I burst into tears as he declared his love for her in front of our entire family and friends. It was as if my heart fell from my chest into my stomach and Lucifer’s hand reached down my throat, wrenched it out and threw it down onto the floor in front of me – “You won’t be needing that”, he said.

“You may now kiss the bride”, I stared across the room at them, broken and confused, as my heart lay limply pulsating at my feet.

I remember my older sister laughing at me and asking me why I was crying. I couldn’t tell her it was because the man I loved so deeply, the man I so desperately craved the love and affection of, the man who abandoned me when I was 6 years old, the man who – as it turned out – didn’t hug me until I was 16 years old and to this day I can still count on one hand how many times I’ve felt his awkward embrace, the man who was so far from the definition of a father you’d assume we weren’t related had just married a stranger.

I told her I was crying with happiness.

The issue

The joys of being self-aware and invested in the business of self-development often means that I can spot the reg flags in a potential relationship pretty early on. I can smell the avoidants and dismissive from a mile off and yet their alluring scent draws me in closer to the fire. I gaze longingly into it, knowing if I get any closer I will definitely get burnt – I’ve got a million burns to prove it. It never gets any less painful, and yet, like a moth to a flame, I flutter on into the blaze.

Ouch, that hurt. I knew it, why did I do it AGAIN?

I know exactly why I do it. I do it because I’m idealistic, romantic and my inner child desperately craves validation and approval from a particular type of person because of the deep wounds my abusive father left with me with. (It’s unfortunately an all too familiar storyline for many of us.)

I’m always looking for a do-over. Always chasing the kind of love only a father has for his daughter. The “I’d die for you” kind of love. Even when I think I’ve found it, it’s never quite enough. So I keep on searching, I keep on pining after the men who don’t seem to give me enough attention. I keep on craving their approval, needing so furiously to be desired, to be everything they’ve ever needed and more. I need it to feel powerful, I need it to feel safe, I need it to feel loved.

Even if I do succeed in capturing their attention, it still feels like something is missing. I become restless, there must be something wrong… and so the craving sets in once again.

I’ve spent much of my adult life trying to heal through practicing self-love, doing the work, nurturing to my inner child work, facing my shadows and releasing my embodied trauma. This shit takes time and whilst we’re healing, inevitably we sometimes end up repeating some of the same mistakes, more than twice. We try not to judge and punish ourselves, we show ourselves compassion, we forgive ourselves and we continue to grieve the loss of the love we didn’t get from our parents. It’s exhausting.

There’s an interesting moment in time in the healing process when our unhealthy habits and coping strategies no longer work for us – they seem entirely pointless. But equally, our new coping strategies are really fucking tough because they’re these new, weird, inconvenient tools that we don’t really know how to use yet and we aren’t quite seeing the pay-off from the expensive investment that we’ve made in ourselves. We’re stuck in limbo. We’re in an incredibly transformational period; so close, and yet so far. We see clearly the patterns of behaviour which are no longer serving is. We see very clearly the habits that are preventing us from growth. But, we just can’t seem to shake them.

For me, this is particularly true when interacting the ‘popular’ types. You know the ones, the shiny, extroverted, sun-shines-out-of-their-arse types. Someone I’d perceive to be more attractive than me and more successful. These aspects are quite specific to the areas in my own life where I believe I’m a failure – likely because these were the areas that I felt if only I was better or special in some way and then maybe, just maybe, my father would finally acknowledge me and show me he loved me. This all very much drives my perfectionism and my insanely critical inner voice.

So, these types really stab me in the ‘daddy’ shaped hole in my heart.

Thankfully, after a little chat with my inner child I can usually spot the signs that I’ve been triggered. If they aren’t responding well to my yearning, the rational thing to do would be to turn the ship around and save myself the aggro of falling for yet another avoidant dismissive and having my heart wrenched out of stomach after feeling rejected or abandoned. These types make it very difficult for me to remember my worth, to keep myself grounded, to remind myself I am enough, I am safe and I am lovable. However…

I just can’t help myself. It’s honestly an addiction.

And what’s so great about walking into the fire

This was a question that up until very recently, I had never considered. I’d always assumed the reason I did it was because I didn’t respect myself enough – I think probably to begin with that was true. I’ve often wondered if it’s because I don’t love myself enough, or maybe I do this because feeling unsafe is all I’ve ever known. But that’s not true, I have had very healthy, very loving and very successful relationships and I really do care for myself now. I stopped judging myself, I forgave myself, I learnt to love and accept myself. I let go of the layers of shame and guilt that smothered my ability to fully express myself. I even learnt how to have boundaries. And yet, those flames still really, reallyyyyy titillate me...

But whyyyy?

I decided to sit down and I write out a list of things that draw me towards the fire:

First of all, I live in an absolute idealistic and romantic fantasy (most of us do!). Thanks to innumerable trashy rom-coms, I have ridiculous expectations of what love is supposed to look like and the things people will do to win the affection of their beloved. Maybe this time it’ll all work out? The shy wallflower will finally be acknowledged by the tough jock when he realises how wonderful she is and they’ll live happily ever after?

Never.

Secondly, it’s exciting. There’s risk involved in potentially (inevitably) getting burnt. It’s much like any other risky addictive habit; gabbling, drugs, sex with your best friends ex when he explicitly told you not to. Maybe the rush of it will be worth it this time? It definitely won’t be. The low, the regret, the guilt and the self-loathing is ALWAYS horrendous. On the other hand, maybe you already feel pretty shitty so, what have you got to lose? Might as well, ey?

Nope.

And finally, I honestly find everyday life seriously mundane. I constantly crave intensity and losing myself. Routine is boring, change is exciting. The fire offers me the perfect distraction from the monotony of the day-to-day snooze fest. I used to believe I was trying to escape something, trying to run away from my problems by filling my time with a chaotic love life just so I had something to talk about other than the files that Susan lost when the auditors came to… GAH! To begin with, this was true. But I’ve done a fuck tonne of work on myself since then, I no longer find solace in my old coping strategies because they simply do not work. I gave them up, I started actually taking care of myself and tending to my needs and wounds instead. So what was it?

I then realised something very important. Wanting excitement, thrill, ecstatic joy, bliss, celebration, partying, romance, love, sex, creativity, playfulness and adventure is in no way a bad thing. It is in no way a sign of weakness or an indication that I’m trying to escape something. It tells me I am human, that I’m alive, that I’m a social being. It tells me I want more than this average life we get sold by the system, that I won’t settle for this bullshit, that I deserve more, I am worthy and – I am the fire.

I already embody all of the things I so desperately crave. I am everything that I need. I have everything that I desire. I’m drawn to the fire because it’s calling me to be seen. My attachments and wounds have left me feeling dismissed, unacknowledged, invalidated and deleted… But I AM the fire. We all are. Whether or not another human experiences you in this way is irrelevant. We do not need anyone else to approve our existence and worth. Even if it is never seen or shared with anyone, the fact still remains true that you are indeed already burning effervescently.

No permission.

No recognition.

No validation.

No attention.

No acknowledgement.

And you will still remain the brightest light in the universe.

Let’s Try This Again- Chapter 3

In sleep Ahsoka was easy to move, Anakin swaddled her up in his blanket and robe before laying her down carefully on his bunk, hoping that the warmth and pressure would make up for her lack of a human speeder. Obi-Wan had gone to the cockpit to contact the Council and explain the situation, but that respite wouldn’t last long. Anakin took the time to change his tunic, wash his face, and redo his braid. He knew they were going to talk about what happened, even if he didn’t really want to, and the least he could do was look respectful when Obi-Wan decided on his punishment. Looking at himself in the mirror he was still covered in pink splotches and looked half dead. Anakin snorted and mumbled, “A shining example of Jedi neutrality and poise.”

Sneaking back out into the kitchenette, Anakin could still hear Obi-Wan’s steady voice from the front of the ship. The call was taking longer than he’d expected, but Anakin hoped that would work in his favor as he squeezed around the cramped space making tea. He knew where the provisions had been stocked, after all, Master Obi-Wan had brought them along himself. Anakin worked quickly and as quietly as he could managing to only hesitate for a moment at the sparse selection. His hand hovered over the green they both like before snatching the rooibos. After this day caffeine was probably not a good idea.

With his arbitrary task finished Anakin found his nerves returning in leaps and bounds. He hovered, twisting his hands together, and checked on Ahsoka through the force (asleep) before checking on his Master. Their bond was quiet, but not closed which was a good sign. Anakin sent a small, cautious request over, just to know if it was going well. He wasn’t sure if he meant between them or between Obi-Wan at the Council. There was a quick reassurance from Obi-Wan, not brusque but distracted. Anakin concentrated on sending the concept of tea back to him, warm and soothing, fragrant steam, half floating leaves. There was deep amusement and gratitude; the sensation of walking through a small waterfall. That was Obi-Wan code for relief and it made Anakin smile even as he fought off the desire to shake nonexistent water from his skin.

When the bond did close it was the gentle and temporary closing of a door, not a solid wall.

It left Anakin feeling both better and sick to his stomach. He didn’t do well with these sorts of things. It was easier when Obi-Wan was just angry at him and told him what to do, or when Obi-Wan was all smiles and jokes. One was a master and one was a friend, and it was hard to sort it out when he was both. Ultimately Anakin decided to try and be happy about the exchange even if he couldn’t exactly manage it. He eventually poured their tea and sat at the table, unsure if he could relax or if he was in trouble.

When Obi-Wan emerged a few minutes later he wore a tired smile and sat down slightly hunched over sighing heavily as he did. “Thank you for the tea Anakin. How is Ahsoka?”

Anakin dipped his head, grateful for the soft opening and annoyed at the deflection, “She’s still sleeping.”

Obi-Wan glanced at the wall separating them from her before picking up his cup. “Good, it’s been a rather eventful day for us all I think.”

Anakin practically snatched his mug up, letting it burn hot against his palms instead of answering.

“Anakin, we do need to talk about what happened.” Obi-Wan spoke to his tea, his chin length hair falling to frame his face. It left his Master covered in half shadows.

Anakin flexed his fingers against the smooth ceramic and felt like trying to duck under the table. He pushed down on the floor through his heels and nodded sullenly. “Yes Master. I...I just started thinking too much is all, about how no one had helped her. It’s not right.”

“I agree that what she’s been through is wrong, no child should be left to fend for themselves like that. But Anakin...you cannot solve that problem with violence and hatred. It serves no one, least of all Ahsoka.”

Anakin clenched his jaw and forced himself to sip from his tea, worked to keep that anger from bursting forth again. Trying to let the hurt burn out. “I think it would be good to make sure it can’t happen again.”

“That,” Obi-Wan’s voice held a slight snap to it, “is for the local authorities, not the Jedi. You found her and she’s safe now. Be grateful for that, and happy for having a new friend instead of angry over a past you cannot change. You did well Anakin, but your anger will flow down your bond to her if you are not careful.”

“No it won’t, I’ll make sure of it Master!” Anakin’s head whipped up, desperately seeking eye contact to make this promise real. Permanent. He wasn’t going to hurt her, he wasn’t going to ruin someone like that!

“I understand that you’ll try, but you still get flashes from me don’t you?” Obi-Wan asked with his head tilted.

Anakin flushed. Oh. Oh. If Obi-Wan couldn’t even hide his stronger emotions fully from him, how could Anakin hope to shield Ahsoka? He couldn’t. Anakin was devastated and felt stupid. Of course he couldn’t, he was still new to being a Jedi. He didn’t have control. Obi-Wan’s hand was warm as it covered his, one thumb rubbing soothingly over the back of his wrist.

“This is a big responsibility Anakin, but one the Force has chosen you for. This would not have happened if it wasn’t supposed to. I have faith in you.”

Anakin nodded miserably at the table, not really believing his Master’s kind words.

They sat there for quite a while, silently drinking their tea. Obi-Wan eventually withdrew his hand, but sent soothing waves over to Anakin through their bond to make up the difference. When Anakin finally started to slump over, exhausted and wishing he had chosen the green instead, Obi-Wan had stood and collected their mugs and pot. A slight jerk of his chin indicating that Anakin should go and rest. He wanted to protest but Obi-Wan had already turned away to clean and the floor seemed to tilt alarmingly under foot.

Perhaps sleep was the best thing now that he was thinking about it.

Anakin stumbled to his bunk, and fumbled a bit to rearrange himself around Ahsoka’s still sleeping form. He dropped quickly into sleep.

Anakin walked along one of the Temple’s many sun drenched hallways, looking for Master Obi-Wan. He didn’t know why, but it was imperative that he found his Master and quickly. His heart thumped painfully and his head throbbed in time. It was so bright this time of day, it always was around...what time was it? He glanced at his chrono which flashed 23:20. Looking back up he felt silly, right, the Temple lights were just terribly bright at night. A shame how it only made his head hurt worse though. Honestly, how was anyone supposed to sleep with all these lights around? No one seemed bothered by it except him, just another way he was different he supposed. Funny though, Anakin would’ve assumed he’d be better at it thanks to his life on Tatooine but-

Footsteps, echoing around the hall, getting louder with every bounce but never sounding closer.

“Obi-Wan!” Anakin called, breaking into a steady jog and fighting his billowing robes with each step.

“Anakin!” Obi-Wan’s voice echoed, worried and harried.

Anakin tripped, and hauled up another armful of deep brown cloth. “Master Obi-Wan wait!”

There was no response. Anakin cursed as he tripped again and wound the cloth over his shoulders desperate to keep his feet untangled. There was a ringing sound far away and the footsteps-and would it kill the Order to use less powerful lights? His head felt like there was something inside pounding away at the same few spots, trying to break out from his skull. Force it hurt. Anakin stumbled, unable to keep up his pace and terrified that Obi-Wan was leaving him behind.

“Master!” He called desperately the same moment a second softer voice echoed the word behind him.

Anakin whipped around squinting into the thick darkness of the hallway, breathing heavy and lightsaber in hand. Someone had just shouted behind him. Someone nearby but he couldn’t see through the deep shadows of the Temple.

“Hello?” “Hello!”

Anakin ignited his blade and struggled to get out of his robe. He could barely run in it, there was no way he could fight like this if he needed to. Obi-Wan’s footsteps faded to nothing leaving him completely alone. His head was going to explode, Anakin desperately pressed the heel of his free hand to his forehead and bit back a shout of pain.

Anakin called out, he needed help, he needed-“Master please come back!”

The voice echoed him again. Where he had called full of fear, it called full of grief. The raw sensation of their pain washed over him in waves. Anakin dropped like a stone, knees cracking on the floor as pain overwhelmed him. White hot and unending pain. He screamed out reflexively, “Master!”

Someone collided with him on the floor, their armored legs clattering as they practically slid into him. One arm wrapped around his back and their other gauntleted hand pressed into his chest, healing blue light dancing just along the edges of her orange fingers. He couldn’t look up, tears blocking his vision as everything swam around him, but he knew. He knew without looking who was holding him.

Anakin woke groggy, his head aching and jaw practically locked from how hard he’d been clenching it. He looked blankly out at the room trying to commit as much of his dream as he could to memory before hearing a sudden high pitched snort. He was only partially successful in keeping his giggles contained. Anakin slowly looked down and found Ahsoka had apparently woken at some point. The blanket and robe were both half thrown over Anakin and she had wormed her little hands between his inner and outer tunic. She had been there long enough to of course drool on him, but he could forgive her two dirtied tunics in exchange for that one sleepy snort. He wiggled his arm experimentally and found that her weight had it pinned, and with a sigh used the force to tug the blanket down over his feet. Ahsoka didn’t even twitch as the cloth was pulled. Anakin practiced his breathing and let himself drift back to sleep a few minutes after that. Obi-Wan would wake them when they needed to get up.

Chapter One; Discovery

Petopher/Hargent [Peter Hale x Christopher Argent]

BE WARNED THERE IS MENTION/IMPLICATION/DESCRIPTIONS OF CHILD ABUSE IN THIS FANFICTION! Also, I don’t own Teen Wolf or it’s characters.

Peter had told himself a long time ago that he would never in a million years tell anyone about the abuse from his father. He’d taken careful measures to hide any and all signs of it when he could; because who would believe him? His father was a prominent member of the Beacon Hills community; with shining star children that everyone adored. Except for Peter, in most cases. He was the black sheep of the Hale pack - with his strange balance between his two halves, his steel blue gaze and his strategic and hunting prowess that made the others who were much older look like greenhorn soldiers. He was the one no one thought of unless he wasn’t around for dinner or family gatherings [although if he was honest, he doubted he’d be missed at the latter anymore, the way his father continually talked down to and about him]. He had kept it a secret even from Chris, the beautiful human - and hunter - he had recently taken up a relationship with, though no one knew. He just couldn’t bring himself to let Chris know how bad his family treated him, although he wouldn’t be surprised if Chris had figured it out between the lack of his speaking about them and almost always meeting at Peter’s special home. But he couldn’t let anyone’s image of his father be ruined; it would mean his own death at the hands of his patriarch alpha. He was resigned to the torment alone. So it was no surprise when his father had pulled him from bed, ripping the teen’s arm from socket in the process, to drag him out of the house. Peter could only grit his teeth and bear the pain as he was taken from his pseudo home and dragged into the empty field where his late night “lessons” with his father took place.

It had lasted for what felt like ages; only a mere hour in reality, and once satisfied with his work, Anthony Hale had left his son lying bloody along the floor of the forest, stomping back to the house and muttering under his breath about weaklings and needing to make sure the true power stayed in line with the good ones. Peter knew well enough by this point what “the good ones” meant; his siblings - especially his older sister Talia. In pain and tasting the copper of his own blood on his lips, he slowly eased his way up into a sitting position, leaning back against the trunk of a nearby tree. He could feel several broken bones healing slowly, feel the blood seeping into a few places along his dark shirt and pajama pants in the process of his movements. He tried to gather his thoughts, even while the pain seeped deeper into his body and he panted from the effort, his muscles screaming to stop, but the young beta knew he couldn’t, his mind going over the night thus far. Everything hurt. It wasn’t fair, and Peter knew it. But…it was his life. One of his siblings had stepped out of line and as the norm, his father had taken him for training. It wasn’t training, not really, but it left the same residual effect. No one in his family questioned it anymore. Peter had long ago learned how to hide any markings left in view so no questions could be asked. Tonight was harsh, and his father had left him bloodied and almost broken in the clearing. Peter laid still, willing an end to the pain that he knew wouldn’t come. His father loved to hit him too much. The beta had become unwanted even more after stepping in and killing an omega that had attempted to kill his father. His eyes no longer burned that golden color everyone appreciated…as if Peter needed anymore weight to the guilt he carried from killing someone. It had given notice to his hunting ability; not shocking. His skills only got noticed when he “stepped out of line”. Laying where he’d been left, the wolf closed his eyes and took slow breaths to calm his body, which would help the healing process speed up a little better. The inner wolf was at a loss, oddly quiet even. Peter relaxed as he felt some of the pain ebb and nodded in his mind. ‘I’ll be fine to move in a few minutes.’ he told himself, letting his body roll so he was on his side rather than his stomach.

The grass was nice and cool despite the scent of blood everywhere. After what he had determined to be a few minutes, where the pain had mostly given way to a soreness all over his body, Peter finally began to will his body to move, dragging himself up and stumbling along the path to the house. He needed a shower, and to bandage what he could, but his vision was blurry and he honestly couldn’t fathom making it to the manor. There was the cabin he’d built, his safe haven, he could always go there. The thought of his cabin sent a rush of panic through him.

Christopher.

He fumbled for his pocket, struggling since it was in the pocket on the opposite side of his body from his good arm, but he finally managed to pull out the watch to check the time. the glass cracked again, and could barely focus beyond the glass to note the time. He always met Chris at five o'clock on weekend mornings, at the little cabin he’d set up in the woods. His watch said it was now just after four-thirty; and the beta felt a jolt of adrenaline go through him. He needed to be there; needed his mate. “Fuck,” he breathed roughly as he realized. He had passed out after all, despite telling himself only a few minutes. When it came to most things, he and Chris, his beloved hunter, were out of sync with so many things (which was part of what Peter loved about the human). But when they fell into a pattern of meeting at the cabin at five on Saturday mornings and not bothering to go anywhere if they didn’t want to, Peter had accepted it. But his father’s antics put a lot in danger; and put his son in a serious battle of heart. Peter had never told anyone about the abuse; no one in the pack would have backed him up if he had spoken about it. And if anyone asked questions, Peter would just get another beating, only he wouldn’t be moving ever again afterwards. He had thought about telling Chris why he never wanted to talk to or really see his family often, but Chris just made him feel so normal that he often forgot when he’d planned to explained it. Now, covered in blood and in so much pain he wanted to cry, the beta was left to either let Chris find out like this, or have the hunter worried sick about him and come looking. He couldn’t go looking the way he did. He was beaten, bruised and he was entirely unable to lie to the human if pressed for answers to the wounds, but he also knew he would scare his hunter so much more if he were to not show up at all.

One option ended in Peter’s death, the other ended with his mate in the line of fire should his father discover the secret was out. Peter looked down the darkened path that led to the Hale manor, then down at a bloodied, swollen hand that was healing but taking time from the alpha’s abuse. After a long moment, tears in his eyes, the beta gripped the rough bark of the tree he was leaning against and shoved off, going off the path and pushing himself into a run. He fought against the pain echoing back to life in his body, forcing himself not to stop until he reached the cabin. He was just coming to the little hole he’d groomed for a yard of sorts when he tripped over an overgrown root and face-planted into the ground. Feeling the pain worsen now that he had stopped, Peter didn’t want to move. He wanted to cry and be weak and forget to exist. Soreness biting him, he curled up as best his body would allow, burying his face towards his knees. He wanted to die, to never feel so broken again. He stayed put, not moving or caring about the rest of the world except Chris, the hunter being the only thought that kept Peter wanting to hang on. A noise nearby had Peter tensing, wondering if someone had gone looking and followed the scent of his blood to his safe place, but the gasp told him no, he was still safe. Resigned to the crossroads his father had unknowingly provided him, he laid still and waited for Chris to show up.He opened blue eyes and made eye contact with a pair of blue hues lighter than his own, opening his mouth to speak, but was cut off as the other teen spoke.

“Peter?!” the voice of the human he loved so much had Peter barely moving to uncurl enough to peek out at the blonde.

“Hey,” Peter croaked, hissing as Chris rushed over, picking him up to hold him to his chest. “E-easy…everything hurts.”

“Peter, what happened?” the blonde questioned, rushing over to grab the wolf’s face. When his boyfriend winced, he frowned. “Who did this?” The young hunter demanded.

“I’m fine, Chris.” Peter tried to lie. “It’ll heal.”

“It should have already healed, Peter.” Chris countered, his pale blue gaze stopping when it registered. “Peter…who did this?” Peter didn’t need to answer this time, because a few moments after his boyfriend’s question, he felt Chris’ entire body go stock still. “Your alpha did this, didn’t he?” he asked. When his wolf stayed silent, looking away, the human felt an anger rise in him. “I’ll kill him.”

“Chris, no.”

“Peter he beat the shit out of you! That’s not okay. I can’t just let him get away with this.” Chris countered.

“Chris-”

“No, he shouldn’t just go around beating his betas, let alone his own kids!”

“Chris, listen to me, this is serious. If anyone finds out, he’ll kill me.” Peter half-whispered, trying to sit up, but the arm he went to move was the one out of socket and he whined loudly, falling back. This stilled the human, and Peter could smell the change in emotions. “He only beats me, no one would believe you if you said anything, but he would know I told someone and kill me.  It’s because I’m so different.” Chris sat beside him as he spoke, watching Peter and looking over the healing wounds on his boyfriend’s face. “I just need you here. I need to know you’re safe. You kill him and I lose you. Then you lose me, and they get what they want.” Finally, his hunter stood after a long moment, carefully helping him up and supporting much of his weight into the cabin to lay him on the large cat like bed. Before Peter could say anything else, Chris was walking over to the cabinet in the corner of the little kitchen just feet away. He opened it up and pulled out a few items that Peter couldn’t quite see before returning. When he began setting out medical supplies, the wolf gave a confused look. “Chris, why did you-”

“It was in case one of us got hurt out in the woods doing…whatever we decided to do at the time.” Chris replied. “Now lay still, I have to reset your shoulder. It won’t be pretty if it finishes healing like that.”

Peter groaned and closed his eyes, nodding as Chris’ hands fell on his chest and shoulder in the right way before there was a quick, sharp pain and then the feeling in his arm returned. A loud gasp escaping him as his eyes flashed, he bit his lip as he moved his hand, happy to have the function back more accurately. “Thank you.” he breathed.

“Don’t thank me yet. I have to clean the rest of these up so they won’t scar when they heal.” Chris replied, moving to dab alcohol on a cotton ball. “Come on, shirt off.” he said, his tone authoritative as he motioned at the other teen.

“You just want me naked.” Peter countered with a soft chuckle, pushing himself with a low hiss into a sitting position.

“Maybe once I finish cleaning you up, I’ll enjoy how good you look naked. Right now, I want you to be okay. Alpha wounds take time, as you know.” Chris replied, easing the shirt off. He took note of the lack of big tears in the fabric, a silent fury in him as he began to swipe the little ball of cotton along some of the gashes. “This is awful, Peter. Why didn’t you tell me?”

“It’s not that I wasn’t going to. Being with you makes me feel…”

“Safe?” Chris asked, looking up from a closing wound on Peter’s left side.

“I was going to say normal, but yes, safe fits, too.” Peter told him. “I would forget that I was going to until after you left. I’m sorry you found out like this.”

Chris purses his lips. “Peter, you aren’t being forced to marry someone from a pack. Your fucking dad is beating you. Do not tell me that you’re sorry.”
