hope yall are in the mood for some aro max because i wrote some aro max (and terrible-at-feelings-but-trying-to-help billy lmao)

"Alright, shithead, spill." Billy lands heavy in the empty space next to Max, arms crossed. He's not looking at her, and his expression is his version of blank. A careful mask that doesn't keep the ghost of a scowl from pinches the corner of his mouth.

It's not the worst way he's ever approached a conversation, and it's not like she was really watching whatever's on the TV, but irritation grips her insides tight anyways.

Christ, he didn't even bother washing the engine grease off his face before ambushing her. His work clothes are streaked with grime where he's been wiping his hands all day. No doubt Steve's going to make him clean the cushions later.

Which would be funny, except that might leave her without a bed for the night.

She eyes the side of his head, annoyed at his dumb purple scrunchie and all the curls slipping out of it and the little blue crystal stud Steve bought him that he's been wearing ever since. She hates his whole face right now. Looking at him try to act like the big brother he never was makes her chest squeeze unpleasantly.

"Mind your own business." She crosses her arms. And then uncrosses them, shoving balled fists into her sweater pocket instead.

"Fuck that, you made this my business when you decided to mope on my couch and eat all of my food for three fucking days."

"Steve's couch," Max mutters.

A muscle in Billy's jaw jumps. It's grimly satisfying to hit a nerve. Misery loves company and all that. Max doesn't even know the full extent of the issue, but she's heard enough snippets of arguments to know cohabitation isn't going as smoothly for them as Billy wants everyone to think.

"Not the point."

Max scrapes her fingernail along the seam of her pocket, digging up lint and stale crumbs. This sweater needs to be washed. It was thrown over the back of her desk chair, and she didn't bother with the sniff test before she grabbed it on her way out the door. It wasn't until she'd fled half a block away that she noticed it reeked of stale sweat. And it's only gotten worse in the days she's spent here with no change of clothes.

He's still waiting for her to say something. Like it's that easy. He's a hypocrite if he expects her to spill her guts just like that. He's never made a single thing easy, he doesn't get to just…

But maybe he doesn't actually care, if flat out demanding answers was his game plan. Maybe it didn't matter that his approach was shitty. "If you wanted me out of the apartment, you could just say that." She's not sure she actually believes that, but it's the only thing willing to come out of her mouth.

Billy turns to look at her, a crease between his eyebrows. She doesn't know if it's concern or confusion. Maybe both. Or neither. His face is hard to read sometimes, when he wants it to be. It unnerving. Not as scary as it used to be, but still. She liked it better when he was awkwardly avoiding eye contact.

"I would've just said that, if that's what I was getting at, dumbass." He stops. Sighs, short and sharp, and rubs his forehead. "Look, I heard Ellie's moving in with that girl she's been seeing…"

Max jolts. The reminder hits like a bucket of ice water dumped on her head, a sudden shock that lingers, unpleasantly trickling down her back and leaving her palms clammy. She grinds her teeth. Forces out, "Yeah, so?"

"So, I can put two and two together, alright."

"Well I hope so, seeing as you graduated high school and all."

"Ha ha. Hilarious. You know what I meant."

Of course she knows. He's jumped to the same conclusion everyone else has. What El thought when she broke the news, all big sad eyes and careful words, walking on egg shells. What Lucas thought when she went running to him in tears and a rank old hoodie. What Steve thought last night when he told her she could get whatever toppings she wanted on the pizza he was ordering. She's tired of pitying faces and sympathetic gestures, and she's tired of everyone's assumptions.

"I'm not in love with her."

"Oh come on, everyone knows you two had a thing—"

"Would you just fucking leave it?"

Her eyes start to burn. There's a weight in her chest she's been carrying for days—or maybe it's been there for months, years, and she's only just noticing it now—pressure on her lungs, iron fingers gripping her heart. It gets heavier the more she dwells on it, and Billy's prodding isn't helping.

"Max…"

"I wouldn't have crashed here if I knew you were going to hold it over my head like this."

"Bullshit, I know you didn't have anywhere else to go."

"Could've figured something out." She cringes internally at the lie. It's petulance alone that keeps her from admitting Billy's right.

Besides, even if all her friends hadn't been too busy, too preoccupied, too unavailable, even if she'd settled for a patch of floor in Lucas's dorm room—which definitely would've gotten him in trouble with his girlfriend again—it's not like they would've been any less nosy. In fact she might've had less time to herself before the interrogation started.

Billy scoffs, "What, like running back to your mama and hoping she's sober enough to give a fuck about your teenage melodrama—"

"Fuck you!" Max snaps, bristling with anger too big to stay trapped in her ribcage. It burns in her veins, tension trembling down her arms, her hands, her fingers. She wants to hit something. Someone. It's making her palms sweat and her shoulders ache. Keeping still. Contained. He's trying to get a rise out of her, trying to get her to slip and say something, and she's not going to give him the satisfaction.

"You lived through actual monsters trying to kill your friends, and you're acting like a girl not liking you back is the end of the world."

"That's not…" Max lets out a slow breath through her nose, jaw clenching shut.

"Stop being a fucking pussy, Max."

"Oh that is rich coming from you."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me."

"No, I don't think I did."

"Have you told Steve you hate the way he's always throwing his parents' money around?" Max sneers back at him. He withdraws all at once, mouth snapping shut, eyes going dark, seething. That muscle in his jaw is twitching again. "Yeah. Of course you haven't. You don't have a leg to stand on here."

He stares at her for a long time, not saying a word. It's worse than if he'd yelled or broken something or threatened her. It's uncertain, and tense, and she can't do anything but stew in her own impotent rage. There's a part of her that wants to jab at him more, cut deeper into that wound. There's so more she could say, but it gets lodged in her throat when she notices the way he keeps digging his fingernails into his forearm.

She uncurls her fists in her pocket, and her knuckles protest after being clenched for so long. Flexing her fingers doesn't make it feel any better.

When Billy finally speaks he's so quiet she barely hears him over the canned laughter crackling through TV speakers. "At least I can admit I love him."

A dozen different impulses all crash into each other. Kick the coffee table. Punch him in the nose. Scream. Break something. Anything. Any goddamn thing.

Max's whole body tenses, flinches, and a sound rips out of her, a scoff, a sob, a wet, mirthless laugh. And the dam breaks. She cracks. Crumbles. Angry tears burn her eyes. "I don't love her and I never did."

"Max—"

"You don't fucking get it, Billy, nobody gets it! Nobody listens!" She swipes at the wetness on her cheeks with the heel of her hand. "She was one of my best friends, so I thought maybe… Things never 'clicked' with Lucas, so I thought…" Words fail her again, petering off into a frustrated growl.

El didn't understand when Max ended things. She didn't understand why. Max hardly understood at the time. But she's done a lot of thinking since then. About every bullshit excuse she'd ever used to break up with Lucas when they were kids, and how much of a relief it always was. The dread she buried whenever she took him back because she missed having him around. The same emptiness she pretended she didn't feel when she was trying to convince herself kissing girls instead was the answer.

Being more sure of herself should've made it easier to say, but it hasn't. She takes a breath.

"I've never felt that way about anyone. And I doubt I ever will."

Billy eyes her carefully. Neutrally. His silence makes her twitchy.

"Okay," he says after far too long, then gestures vaguely at her, "What's all this about then."

"I…" Max blinks at him. He blurs. She blinks again. A whole spectrum of emotions swell up between her ribs, pressing out like a balloon about to burst and making her feel queasy. "That's it?"

"Did you want me to say something else."

When she told Lucas he said she must be a late bloomer. Not to worry, because he's sure she'll get there eventually. El took it personally. Yelled. Cried. Didn't talk to her for weeks afterwards. When she told Mike she was single by choice thank-you-very-much he laughed at her. Mocked her. Whenever she visits her mother there are a million and one questions about why she hasn't found a husband yet.

She didn't want her friends and family to say any of those things, but she expected them to. She didn't expect this.

"...No."

"Okay," he repeats, with just a hint of impatience. "So?"

"It's…" Her voice is unsteady, small and wavering. "I don't want to end up alone."

Billy sucks in a short, sharp, barely audible breath.

Max curls her arms around herself, palms flat against her sides, tucking deeper into her sweater. "I'm glad El likes this girl, I'm, fucking. Happy for her. Or, I was, I guess. But she barely talks to me anymore, and now she's moving out of our place—Everyone just keeps fucking leaving. Because they've all got someone more important than…than the person who's only ever gonna be just a friend."

It feels so much more real now that she's said it out loud. The yawning abyss of her future threatens to swallow her whole, and all she can do is stare at its teeth. No shuddering gulp of air is enough to make her lungs stop burning, and she's given up trying to dry her eyes.

"I don't know what I'm gonna do if all I have isn't good enough."

"Shit," Billy mutters. "Max, Jesus Christ, just. C'mere." He turns to face her, prodding gingerly at her elbow until she slumps against his shoulder. He stinks like sweat and motor oil and shitty cigarettes, and his embrace is awkward, hesitant, but she clings to him anyways.

He lets her cry. Lets her gets tears and snot on his shirt. Doesn't say a word while she sobs her heart out. Eventually she goes quiet, half expecting him to pull away immediately, but he stays, arms loosely wrapped around her.

Max snuffles, then wrinkles her nose. "You need to shower," she mumbles.

He snorts. "Yeah, whatever, Captain Snot. You're not exactly a basket of roses either."

She huffs quietly.

"Listen…" Billy starts, and pauses. "I chose to be your brother. I decided to be. I didn't keep you around because my dad made me or because Steve likes you, I did it because you're important to me. And your shithead friends love you too, Max, they're just idiots. You have to tell them what's going on instead of hiding in my living room for the rest of your life."

Max sits up, wiping her face on her sleeve, and lets out a jittering sigh. He's right. She knows he's right, some distant part of her knows it, but it's buried too deep to feel like it's real. Maybe his words soften the earth packed around it, maybe hearing him admit he cares will make it easier to dig that part out, but she's too exhausted to pick up a shovel yet.

She nods. It's all she can manage.

"Alright. Now help me flip these cushions before Steve gets home."

Max cracks a tiny smile. "You're terrible."

"Yeah, and you're stuck with me. Jokes on you."

"...I can live with that."

I always thought the song was more about sex but I read the lyrics more thoroughly today and realized that they actually fit with Billy!!! So, thank you for this genius request and I'm super sorry it took me so long. I hope you enjoy this at least 💓

You sighed, Heather kept repeating herself. Ever since you started your… thing with Billy she's been going on and on about how he isn't good for you because he's an asshole and because he will leave you soon.

You guessed she had reasoning to think so; after all that's exactly what he wanted everyone to see and think. He wanted to show that he could have anyone, so why would he settle for only one person?

All that may have been true, but then you came along. Sure, you guessed it was a little cliché: the bad boy falling for someone like you. Someone like you, that wasn't popular, neither disliked but at the same time no one really knew you.

"Heather," you interrupt and she stops with her rant, eyes locking on you. "What's between him and me stays between just him and me. Stop telling me what to do, it's none of your business." You weren't even really friends, you both worked at the pool and your shifts overlapped. That ended with you talking, though it was usually more of a one-sided conversation for her.

You liked the peace and quiet this job would have usually brought. The kids coming here we're either intimidated by you or generally didn't care enough to cause trouble. At first your shifts were shared with Billy.

You caught his attention when he came here the first time to see you tell off some kid because he kept running along the edges of the pool. To him, it was hilarious. The boy had probably almost wet himself from fear and embarrassment, just for you to go back to your magazine with an annoyed sigh immediately after.

He'd tried flirting with you after, making his usual crude comments and flirty remarks. But you didn't give him the reaction he wanted. You either ignored him or only answered shortly or insulted him.

But even then, it wasn't long until you slept together the first time. Two months after seeing each other almost every day your resolve broke and you slept with him after closing the pool up together. It had been a long and tiring day and when he offered you gave in.

It was probably the best lay you've had, though you'd never tell him. After that you got reassigned with Heather which you thought would be the end of your and Billy's acquaintance.

He proved differently when he came every evening to pick you up in his car after your shifts.

It made you feel more than what you usually felt; instead of dreading his presence because of the annoying flirting you anticipated it.

The car rides were filled with his loud music and at least one near accident because of his speeding. Sometimes you talked but most of the time he let you nap as he drove you home, the way to your house ingrained into his memories.

You started thanking him with cheek kisses three weeks in and he made poor attempts to cover up the blush on his cheeks. It was cute and you were falling for it. Falling for him and all of his harsh persona.

"That's right, piss off," someone drawls from behind you and seconds later an arm wraps around your hips loosely. Heather pales and leaves quickly, making you sigh in relief.

"Thanks, she's been on my ass about us for days." Billy chuckles and flicks his cigarette away, mindful of your distaste concerning his habit. "Yeah? What's this 'us'?" There's a smirk on his face and you wrap your arms around his neck with a matching one. "I don't know. You tell me?"

He laughs breathily and rests his head against your shoulder putting well-placed kisses on your neck. You sigh and let your head fall back, enjoying his gentle teasing. This either meant he was in a good mood or he just wanted to sleep with you.

You guessed the second when he cups your cheek with his big hand and looks up. "Let me stay at yours tonight, babygirl." He huskily demands - though there's question in his eyes as well.

You pretend to dwell over it but nod ultimately and drop your hands to play with the hair at the base of his neck, the curls damp with some sweat. "You're lucky you're cute."

He laughs cheekily and winks, "I'll make it worth your time?" He smirks and you laugh, hitting his chest weakly and stepping back. "Help me close this up and I'll think about it."

When you're home later he's laying next to you, jeans discarded and leaving him in his underwear and muscle shirt.

There was a lollipop between his lips; courtesy of your strict rule against smoking whenever he was close to you. He had to busy himself otherwise, so this was your solution.

You were snoozing against his shoulder, hair pulled away from your face and neck because it was so unbearably hot. Your window was open and left some of the cooler night air in, causing a pleasant shiver when you wake up.

"You up, sleeping beauty?" He jokes and rubs his thumb over your hip bone, his arm once again around your waist.

Scoffing you yawn and stretch, your shirt riding up a little and revealing a sliver of your stomach. Alone that sight nearly made him feral, the influence you had on him was abnormal.

You lean your head against the wall behind you and sigh again, closing your eyes. "What's on your mind, pretty?" He asks, genuine concern hidden beneath his flirtatious tone.

You decide to leave your eyes closed and take his hand in yours, playing with it to distract yourself. "It's, uh… it's about whatever this," you lift your head and open your eyes gesturing between you and him with your other hand, "is. I- Jesus, you're gonna leave me for this." You chuckle sadly and move away a little, letting his hand fall back into his lap, rubbing both of yours up and down your face.

"Don't think anything is gonna make me leave you. I'm already wasting that much gas on you, as long as you haven't been fucking someone behind my back you won't get rid of me now that I have you, sweetheart." It was jokingly said but he was serious at the same time, hand back on your thigh.

"No, don't- you're making this really hard, y'know?" He grins lazily and cocks his head to the side, looking irresistibly cute with his eyes trained onto yours, waiting for you to explain.

"I…" you're trailing off, nervousness seeping off of you in waves. He calls your name and reaches to lift your head up with a hand on your chin, "I'm serious, just tell me. I promise I won't react badly."

He holds up a hand and stretches out his pinky, "What's that thing you taught me? The special promise thing?" He asks curiously and you chuckle weakly, "Pinky promise." He nods and wraps his pinky around yours, making you giggle.

"Alright, now tell me."

"Uhm, I like you. I know that's not why you're spending time with me and stuff, but I want more. I want to hold your hand and I want to go on actual dates. I want to-"

"-be a couple?" He finishes for you. You gulp and nod hesitantly. He sighs and silence stretches over you for at least a minute until he speaks up. "I'm really bad at this. You know my whole thing is not sticking with someone. I'm not good at commitment. But… I'm ready to try for you. I wouldn't have spent this much time on you if I wouldn't see myself taking you on dates, darling."

You don't really believe him so he assures you again, "Be mine. Be my girlfriend," he pulls you on top of his thighs and with a dreamy grin you lean in to kiss him, enjoying the closeness of your new found boyfriend.

"So, boyfriend. Wanna get your reward for helping me close up the pool?"

Warnings: OOC Billy, Neil being abusive, implied aro/ace reader. If there are some others let me know!:)

a/n: I know there are some people that don't like Billy and i completely understand that. I just want to let you know that the way Billy i write isn't really canon hence OOC Billy. I have some other ideas for him so there might be more fics coming (and overall from stranger things). But don't worry yall, i haven't forgotten the Harry Potter fics lol. I just wanted to try out something new :P And these are my first headcanons ever so they are not the best.

Would be overprotective af (won't admit it though)

Ever since your mom left you two have been inseparable. He promised to always be there for you and never leave

Billy wouldn't let you into his room (for obvious reasons) but later on ends up letting you in if you need company

He'll tell you that you aren't allowed to date boys (or anyone in general)

You find it questionable because he hooks up almost everyday

You point it out to him but he'd come up with stupid excuses like "Well i'm older than you so i'm basically allowed to do whatever i want."

Both of you know it's bullshit but you don't really mind in the end bc you aren't really interested in anyone, preferring to focus on your hobbies

He's secretly happy that you aren't interested in dating

Even though Neil isn't as physically abusive towards you, he is verbally abusive.

Says that it's your fault that your mom left and making other comments about you

Whenever Neil tried to start shit with you, Billy would come and take the hits from him

You would comfort each other whenever your dad was being abusive

Honestly, he wouldn't be embarassed to get you tampons or pads if you needed them

Would turn down the volume of his music a little if he notices that it makes you uncomfortable

Also won't drive like a maniac when you're with him

You are the same age as Max and you were delighted to find out that you will be getting a new step sister

Unlike you, Billy wouldn't be as excited but tried for you

Both of you are devastated when you have to move away to Indiana

You'd listen to Billy complain constantly how shitty the place and the people are

You didn't mind the small town that much and you grew to like it but you still miss home

On the good side you and Max have become good friends and went to middle school together

You also became friends with the nerdy kids with Max

Billy would tell you to not be late when school ends or he'd leave without you, but you both know that he would never do that

He's still cold toward Max but has tried to be nicer to her because you told him so

Doesn't want some shitty guys to harass you

Would scare almost every guy away that tries to talk to you

In conclusion He can be shitty at times but he really does care about you

Happier Alone Part 2

Part One

Pairing: Billy Hargrove x Fem!Reader

Notes: A bit of writing practice for when The Sandman comes out. (So when it does, send in your The Sandman requests. My weekend plans got cancelled so I have nothing better to do)

Summary: Billy’s girlfriend gave their relationship another chance, but she can’t seem to decide if it was the right choice. Until she actually has to be alway from him and realizes she’s happiest when he’s with her.

It had been a full week since (Y/N) decided to give her relationship with Billy another chance. A full week and she still didn’t quite know how she felt about it.

To his credit, Billy was being a great boyfriend. But she knew it was mostly because he had taken their near breakup pretty hard. In fact, a large part of her worries was the fear that he would stop caring as much about their relationship once he knew that she was there to stay again.

Before they had their fight, she had only ever seen him when he drove her to school. Then, he would go off the hang out with his friends and leave her to her’s. Eventually, she stopped getting so invested in it. If he didn’t want her, she wouldn’t waste her time on him.

So she acted like she was alone, and eventually she began to feel happier in it. Which led to her confession to Billy that she thought she would be happier alone than she was with him.

“Hey, you ready to go?” Billy jogged up to her, ready to drive her home. She nodded, giving him a kiss and letting Billy open the car door for her.

“How was your test?” Billy’s eyes flickering to (Y/N).

She shrugged. “I don’t know. It seemed pretty easy, which probably means I misunderstood all of it.”

He laughed, causing her to smile just a bit wider. She always loved his laugh. “Don’t worry ‘bout that.” Billy told her. “I’m pretty sure you’re smart enough to teach that class, let alone take some little test.”

“Mr. Peterson has a PhD.” Her laugh was incredulous, but she felt herself get warm at his compliement. “I highly doubt I could do what he does.”

“A Ph.D is just a piece of paper.”

“It is not!” He was watching her as she laughed and gently hit him teasingly. “The paper is just like… symbolic.”

“Whatever.” He grinned. “You still could give him a run for his money.”

“You’re an idiot.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

She glanced over at him as they continued to drive. He wasn’t looking at her anymore, but there was still that grin on his face. When they finally got to her place and she got out of the car, he stuck his head out of the open window and called after her.

“You free this weekend? He asked. “There’s some movie that I wanna see.”

Opening her mouth about to tell him yes, she quickly shut it again before she could. Remembering what her parents had said several days previously. “I’m out of town this weekend.” She told him, hating the disappointed look on his face. “Visiting my cousins in Indianapolis.

“You didn’t tell me that.” He said, tone even. Which was true, but only because she forgot.

“Yeah, I forgot.” She shrugged, trying not to sound defensive. “I don’t have to tell you anything.”

“I know, I know, I just…” But she just waved away his response.

“Cool. I’ll see you Monday.”

He watched her as she went inside. “See you!” He called after her and she waved goodbye at his words.

“So… is he cute?” One of (Y/N)’s cousin’s asked, messing with her.

“Oh, hush.” She told him. “Hush.”

“Come on.. I’m bored.” He whined. “It’s not like I have any relationship to gossip about.”

(Y/N) laughed. “You’ve literally never shown any interest in anyone. Literally all our lives. So why are you so invested in Billy and me?”

“That’s exactly why. Just because it’s not for me doesn’t mean I don’t wanna hear about yours.”

She managed to avoid saying much, grateful her aunt had pulled her cousin away to help with dinner. Because honestly, the truth was that it was only one day, and she was already missing Billy a lot.

(Y/N) had expected to feel alright with not being around him, having got used to it back when they had been having relationship troubles. But she couldn’t stop thinking about him.

She debated just calling him, but she knew he was at the movie theatre, and she didn’t want to call him after that. It would be too late and she wouldn’t want to deprive him of sleep.

The end of the weekend couldn’t come soon enough.

When Billy arrived to pick her up for school on Monday, she pulled him in for a deep kiss. “What was that for?” He asked with a smirk. “I mean, I’m not complaining.”

“I missed you.”

“Well I missed you too sweetheart.” He kissed her again.

“No, I mean..” She shook her head, wrapping her arms around him. “I was wrong. When I thought I would be happier without you? I was wrong.”

The relief and joy on his face gave her the exact same feelings. “I love you.” He told her.

“I love you too. And I’m sorry I couldn’t come see that movie with you. How was it?”

“It was great. You should see it.” He said, a growing look on his face that could only be described as mischievous. “You know… It’s still playing today. We could skip class this morning and…”

“And not get my test results from Mr. Peterson?”

“Come on! You know you passed.”

“Okay. Let’s go.” (Y/N) laughed, letting him take her hand.

She couldn’t stop smiling, so glad that they were together.

well, there you have it folks! my number of ENTPs is embarassing i was expecting it for the ENTPs, ENTPs my beloved ❤️ What I wasn’t expecting was the amount of ENTJS and ESTPS? Wow? I had no clue sm of my f/os were made up of them! Also, the amount of ESTPS really exposed all my toxic n problematic favs 💀I was expecting to be more split between INTJ and ENTP but it looks like theres a lot of ESTPs too! brb gonna look up what this says about me 🏃‍♀️
