NSFW sleepy sex
Butterfly kisses on his face, a light touch tracing his pec. Nose wrinkled, squinting in the dappled sunlight, Billy puffed drowsy chuckles, lax lips responding to a lingering press very much on delay.
Fingertips danced across his abs, tickling, so he was caught between a defensive curl and a welcoming roll when fingers skated down his morning wood, smoothing latex as they went. Which woke him up a bit more.
“This okay?” As though they didn’t rub each other awake on the regular.
He blinked, lids gritty. “You gonna blow me, or…?”
“Or.” A slick fist pumped him, fondled the tip, and Billy’s spine bowed.
Amused, reaching for him, clumsy: “Wanna be walkin’ funny, babe?”
A hand grabbed his with a whispered yeah, tugged him onto his side as Harrington turned, facing away—nestled backward into Billy’s chest. Deposited the hand on his ass, which, with some prodding, turned out to be thoroughly prepped.
Billy fucked him like that, sluggish and warm, unhurried until the end, their knuckles knotted over Harrington’s stomach, Billy’s nose buried between shoulder blades spattered with moles.
Not a bad way to start the day.

Reading update:
Look, I am clearly on a mission to read every mlm book written, AND I love a lovable rogue, AND I love magic, AND I love the World’s Fair. That said, this book didn’t grab me the way I thought it would? It was a solid read, but I never feel head over heels for it the way I expected to. I think part of my issue with it was that Hutchinson was deliberately anachronistic with the acceptance of queer relationships, which is not something I have a problem with in theory, but it just didn’t really work for me. That said, it was a lovely book, and I really liked all the characters.
DNFed this after 12 pages. It read like crap fanfiction. It was like...you know that dude you know, who thinks he’s really great at writing? And you read his thing because you’re nice, and it’s just like...oof. Someone should have knocked you down a peg or two before you self-published this.
And then I DNFed this one, too! I was so bummed—the premise sounded so fun: real life partners have a home renovation show, and also have to solve crime. But then, the main character is ALSO a YA author, and his boyfriend is ALSO an actor, and the murder took way too long to happen, and what made me nearly throw this book across the room (a mere 10 pages after I grit my teeth and said to myself “It’s not that bad, I’m going to soldier through it”) was a pointless, rambling, utterly obnoxious aside about the main character’s writing process. Quote: “More recently, I’d taken to writing on my mobile phone, using Microsoft’s Word app.” OH my FUCKING GOD DUDE JUST STOP. Literally this is where I put the book down. He goes on for a solid two pages about his writing process.
Whew well after the two-DNFs-in-a-row fiasco (I can count on one hand the number of books I’ve DNFed in my life, so that was a bad experience), I had to choose something I knew I’d love. Thank you Cat Sebastian, who’s never written something I haven’t adored. This is a sequel and we get to hang out with James and Leo again. I still love them, I still love the setting (post WWII), I love how queer the mystery is. I hope we get another book.
Then my copy of Nona The Ninth came, and I knew I’d be seeing spoilers since I was too lazy to block anything, so I read it. I...didn’t love it? There was stuff that I loved so so SO much, but then there was also stuff that I’m just predisposed to not like, which is a personal taste issue. I would have liked things to be a little clearer at the end. I appreciate that Muir doesn’t baby her readers and just tosses them into things, but I kept waiting for that moment where I Got It, as I did in Gideon and Harrow, and it never came. I know this book wasn’t planned as a separate book, and was split out from Alecto The Ninth, which is maybe part of the issue? That OH SHIT moment was maybe always in Alecto. But of course, even if I didn’t love the book, Muir’s writing is amazing. Read this for the Sixth House, if nothing else.
I wanted to like this book more than I did. It was a fun premise—kind of a queer Back to the Future. Unfortunately I found the main character incredibly obnoxious. The point of this book, I think, was to teach him that the world doesn’t revolve around him, and that also, being queer in 2022 is really different than being queer in 1985, and that people who lived through unaccepting or less accepting eras carry that baggage. Except I just continually wanted to smack him for accusing everyone of homophobia or being a coward. Also the author 100% copped out on the time travel stuff, which was lame.
I did love the 80s nostalgia though.
Currently reading:
The first thing I noticed when I cracked this book open was that Enfield, UK was included on the map. My wife is from Enfield, so that made me grin. I think she’s going to read this solely for the fact that it’s largely set in Enfield. I’m only about 100 pages in but I’m liking it so far—it’s an alternate history type book where clocktowers control the flow of time, and it centers on a young mechanic who meets a clock spirit. I enjoyed Tara Sim’s City of Dusk a lot, so I picked this one up after I read that.
Captive Prince Brainrot. Jord and Aimeric 😭😭 And I’m even having feelings about Ancel??? And Berenger? I’m totally reading these out of order, because I’m saving The Summer Palace for last.

What I read in April! A little late because I had to finish my own novel first and sent it into print, which is all done now! uAu (And I already regret everything. 8D)
April was a weird month. I spent 3 weeks on sick leave from work because of my wrist surgery and these weeks seemed to pass so quickly, but when I look back on the books I read at the beginning of the month it feels like it's been so long ago!
The (unintentional) theme of the month was "End of the World" for the paper books. Truth to be told, I love end of the world stories. Not movies about catastrophes and such, just weirdo, abstract end of the world stuff.
The differents types of The End in April:
At the Edge of the Universe (Shaun David Hutchinson): universe shrinking to oblivion
Foreign to You (Jeremy Martin): killing a God
Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality (Roshani Chokshi): end of All Times (and what's worse, the series!)
All that's left in the World (Erik J. Brown): end of humanity
Spin Me Right Round (David Valdes): ... uhm, going back to a time where you have to deny a huge part of yourself is kind of like the end of the world, right?
I liked them all! At the Edge of the Universe was nice, because wild. Also like 10 to 15 years ago breaking my brain about quantum and astro physics and never understanding half of it was a hobby of mine. So reading something in that alley gave me some feels. 8D
And speaking of science that does not work but is still fun: I enjoyed Spin Me Right Round a lot. I just keep wondering: Is it okay to call a book fun, if the underlying theme is superserious? :’D (But then again, which of these books doesn't have that.) I also very much appreciated that it did not revolve around a romance.
The odd one out was probably Foreign to You. That one was serious. And bloody and dirty and strangely beautiful at the same time? I actually strained my brain to find a good comparison: It's like watching a nature documentary where a lion or whatever devours an antelope - or a spider a fly, stuff like that. And it’s cruel and there’s death but we still watch in fascination. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel! And also, these covers!! D:
Speaking of georgeous covers, i waited like an extra month for my copy of All that's left in the World because I wanted that cover instead of the other one. 8D Was worth it. Pretty picture, sweet boys, good book. uAub
As for the audio books ... I listened to them while drawing and basically just borrowed what was availabe at the library. They were all pretty ok. If I had to pick favourites it would be The Ghosts We Keep (I actually bought the author’s other book I wish you all the Best afterwards) and The Charm Offensive. Hani and Ishu was good, too.
I also listened to about 70% of The Infinite Noise as I read Some Faraway Place the month prior and realised that maybe it was not smart to start with volume 3 as I was having a hard time getting through. So I gave vol 1 a try and ... I liked it for a while. And then I got so tired of it. "8D It was so long and nothing happened except endless descriptions of people’s feelings and I already knew the upcoming drama because it was recapped in vol 3 ... I don't think I will finish vol 1 or pick up vol 2. I do not dislike vol 3 though. It got significantly more interesting for me once D entered the picture and I could tell that if I had known the other characters, it would probably been a nice reunion and a really nice ending to the series. I also liked Aaron. He’s the big brother after all, I can't help it, not sorry. :P
Currently, I’m still stuck deep in preparations for con season. Still need to make some illustrations and order new prints. Decide how I want to pack my thick heavy-weight novel. Find out how to publish e-books. Lots of fun. But I’m looking forward to June when I’ll hopefully be able to lean back and relax and just work through my pile of books and PS4 games. 8D

Someone one told me
“Young Man, there’s no need to feel down”
they said
“Young Man, get your ass off the ground”
they said
“Young Man, we’ll spin you right round”
they said
“Young Man, Joe Biden’s in Town

And I’ve just never been the same since.
