Adeus Bye bye 👋 #portugal I’ve had a quiet, #relaxing and #rejuvenating and #inspiring time. Affirmation: In the face of obstruction I will not abandon the one that is always my companion. I will remain faithful to my higher Self. Urdhva mukha svanasana, or upward facing dog pose, is often practiced in tandem with its sibling, adho mukha svanasana, downward facing dog pose. There is a beautiful story about a dog in the Mahabharata, the epic that includes the Bhagavad Gita. When the battle is over, the five Pandava brothers—who did not choose this war, but were obliged to fight to defend their people and uphold their dharma—set off, walking north to the mountain of Heaven, led by Yudishthira, the eldest brother. A dog joins them and refuses to leave. Yudishthira's companions fall along the way until he and the dog are the only ones to reach Heaven's gate. There they are greeted by Lord Indra, the ruler of Heaven. Indra tells them that the dog cannot enter. Yudishthira argues, “This dog is devoted to me. He had many opportunities to leave, and he did not. It is a sin against dharma—right conduct—to abandon one who is devoted to you, one who is terrified, or one who needs your protection. We have comforted each other on this terrible journey, and as he has been loyal to me, I will not abandon him now.” With that, it is revealed that the dog is an incarnation of Dharma itself (because Dharma is not just an abstract principle, but a model for embodied action). By protecting the dog, Yudhisthira has fulfilled his destiny as a man and as a ruler. Today are on at #Kabira Country Club. When I moved into Tree pose, I realized that what I'd read was true: Balancing in water was definitely trickier than on dry land. I was feeling frustrated by the time we got to Balancing Stick (in which you hinge at the waist and form a 'T' shape with your body, one leg extended behind and arms reaching in front of your head) and Dancer (where you lift one leg behind you, and hold your foot with the hand on the same side, your torso upright.) I was just beginning to master these two poses. But doing them in the pool was a completely different story. The slight current (from the pool's pump) and gentle waves (from my classmates' movements) forced my muscles to work harder than usual to keep me from toppling over.
