To be honest I’m not sure how to explain why I like winteriron…their dynamic I guess? Most of the fics I’ve read of them have been Team Iron Man/Not Team Cap Friendly so I usually gravitate towards those. I need to expand my horizons more when it comes to winteriron fics.

I'm sad now I was just wanting to look at tony stark tags that were in no way related to anti tags and I saw several anti posts :(

it unironically kinda hurts me bc he's my fave and I love him and it feels personal I guess

I get it, I used to be an anti for several characters, but I'm not anymore because 1. they're fictional and 2. flaws are interesting as hell and there is no moral imperative to dislike a character for them, unlike a real person

this is why I like the marauders and snape, and this is why I like tony, wanda, steve, etc. because genuinely hating a fictional character seems unironically silly lol

This is a  fill for today’s  WinterIron Pride Prompt Party prompt: Older Gays as well as today’s @flashfictionfridayofficial  prompt:  #FFF204 All the King's Horses]

Fandom: MCU/Marvel Rating: Teen Pairing: Bucky Barnes &  Tony Stark & Steve Rogers Warnings/Triggers/Tags:  discussion of AIDS crisis and current anti-queer rhetoric,  coming out publicly.   Summary:  Bucky discovers a dark part of queer history, and Tony and Steve ask him to help overcome the repercussions. 

“So that’s why,”  Bucky said, voice trembling with emotion as they finished watching the documentary, “there’s relatively few gay men in their fifties, sixties and seventies still around?”  

“In a nutshell, yes,” Tony replied soberly.   He’d still been in the closet during the worst of the AIDS crisis,  too afraid of his father and then  Obadiah to actually pursue his interest in men.    Once he was out, Tony had  carried over the  insistence on using condoms during sex from his dalliances with women; after all, the last thing the up and coming heir to Stark Industries needed was to be saddled with a paternity suit.  But deep in his heart, Tony knew he’d been at least as lucky as he’d been cautious.  

“And without an older generation to look up to,”  Bucky continued doggedly, “it’s tough to figure out who you are.  Who you can be.”

“And it makes it so damn easy for the haters to claim that being queer is ‘something new’  and ‘an agenda’, doesn’t it?”  Steve seethed. “That it’s those evil books, and tv shows  and drag queens that are making their poor babies gay and trans.  ‘Think of the children’ my ass.”

“So what do we do now?”  Bucky asked, a resigned look on his face.  “It’s like trying to put Humpty Dumpty together again, isn’t it?”

“I never did care for that nursery rhyme,” Tony snorted.  “I fix things.  That’s what I do.”

“And that’s  why we’re coming out, right, Buck?” Steve asked.  “To remind people that gay folks have existed  since before they were born.  And that we will continue to exist - no matter what.”

Bucky clasped Steve’s hand and then reached out for Tony’s.   “Damn straight … well, so to speak.”

Pointless rambling, but the whole love for Tony and the anti Team Cap thing resonates so deeply with me, you have no idea. Endgame actually pretty much ruined my passion for the MCU, which used to be huge to the point of obsession, now it's just a rather dull memory and I can't really enjoy it anymore, knowing what they made of it. I don't know about you, but aside from Wandavision I found none of the new Marvel shows even remotely enjoyable, the Loki one turned out as especially disappointing, maybe because it was the one I was looking forward to the most. Now I could write entire essays as to why it felt like such a huge letdown and disrespectful towards the character or what he was once meant to be. The movies, in my opinion, have lost most of their heart and soul and most of all sense too and every new piece of media just seems to be a huge, flashy money grab, used to introduce the next big phase. Fics like yours or the writers you recommended still make it worthwhile to stay, though.

And oh yeah, I don't really engage with the MCU anymore. Endgame pretty effectively killed my interest in the franchise. I think the only things I've seen are No Way Home (and that's only because my sister insisted that I'd like it), and Shang-Chi.

I didn't watch WandaVision (don't like Wanda at all, and I while I love him, I don't love Vision enough to try it), and only got like, two episodes into Loki before stopping because he felt like a caricature.

For the longest time I had entertained the idea of doing a time travel Tony story. One where he was jetted all the way back to when he was seventeen - and he's just so fucking tired. He's an old man trapped in a too-young, unscarred body, and he doesn't want to do it all over again. He'd end up being confronted by everyone who has or will betray him, and would have to play the game of 'do I judge you for what you do in a forgotten future, or hope that this time you'll do something different?'. And then there would be the horrid, horrid ache for his family.

Everyone who met Tony would be expecting the playboy, drug-addict, wasting-his-talent billionaire brat but what they'd get instead was a kid with eyes too old for his face that carried around a bone-deep weariness they couldn't begin to understand. It'd raise questions.

I was still debating, but given it's my OTP, it'd probably end up being WinterIron.

I just have many feelings about Tony.

One truly sickening thing that’s become more popular with TFaWS show streaming, is people commenting about how Tonky and Bucky’s dynamic would’ve been something good in the MCU. This is gross, wrong, and conflating the dynamic of an abuser and their victim (wi//nter//iro//n) with a loving relationship built on common values (stucky).

First off, Tonky harms Bucky, physically, in one of their only one-on-one interactions. In CACW, Tony hears about how Bucky (who was brainwashed, abused, and memory wiped), killed his parents. And how does he react? Does he stop and question how he feels now? Is he angry at Steve for hiding this (understandably, as we know how Tonky acts after this) from him? Does he feel anger, pain, sadness, but control himself because he’s a damn adult? No. He fights, and hurts Bucky, with intention to kill, over something he knows he couldn’t help.

Tonky strikes first, and fights a battle he knows he can’t win, out of pure, childish rage. This is the man people think would treat Bucky right, let alone understand him better than STEVE.

One more thing that’s come to light however, Tonky may not just have the power to both be physically AND emotionally abusive, but financially as well. We already knew he had potential for this from how the one woman he manages to twist into loving him, is also the one under the thumb of his employment, someone he abuses his position of power over.

Now we’ve found out that not only did he not pay the Avengers, when he absolutely had the means to, but he left them when they were in hiding, abandoning what he claimed were his ‘friends’, who he then tried to get mad at in Endgame for abandoning him. Who would want to be friends with someone who kicks me to the curb the minute I don’t align with their ideals?

Tonky hears that Bucky has a different opinion from him, finds out he made a mistake in the past that wasn’t even his fault, and holds him accountable on both fronts. He’s like a right winger, mad that their authoritarian ideology doesn’t match up with their liberal friends. He pushes Bucky down, and drowns him out in the same way Hydra did every time they wiped his memory and told him who he was.

I’m relatively new to the marvel fandom, I literally spent a week binge watching everything on vacation recently. I just found out about the “winteriron” tony/bucky ship, and wrote about it in the tags on a post I reblogged that was about surprising things you learned once you joined a fandom. I just said I didn’t like it, and didn’t see what fans saw in it. Since ya know, tony relentlessly tried to kill bucky even though he knew he was brainwashed. The next day I got 20 anons telling me I didn’t have a right to criticize just because I didn’t like it. Half were from one person sending me death threats if I ever dared shame tony stark again, that he’s gone through so much trauma and is mistreated and betrayed by everyone he meets. They also said I was babying bucky, that he’s a grown man and is big enough to understand the sheer grief tony was processing as he tried to murder him. They said I should get over it too, that I’m a toxic stucky apologist. I’d never said a word about stucky on my blog before, but now I am a stucky shipper since I looked more into it because of their death threats. I checked my followers that day and checked them again a week later. 13 tony-stan blogs unfollowed me

Alright, this here is for everyone: It’s for those who like Tony and those who don’t. It’s for Stony shippers, for Stucky shippers, for IronStrange shippers, for those who ship Ironhusbands or WinterFalcon – it’s for those who hate Stony or Stucky or any of the other ships for whatever reason. It’s for every single person in this godforsaken fandom.

The past few days I’ve seen quite some fandom drama on this hellsite to a point where it went way too far. To a point people got literal death threats into their inbox. And that on both sides of the discourse that originally led to the drama.

While that shit fucking finally stopped again, instead now people start pointing fingers: “X sub-fandom is so toxic, I hate them so much, it’s good we’re not like that.” Etc. But you know what? That’s not true.

Since I’ve been on this hellsite I’ve seen the biggest bullshit everywhere. - Stony shippers harassing others in some kind of superior-complex, going on anon and annoying the fuck out of everyone, even other Stonies for ‘not writing the ship good’ or whatever other bullshit.

- Stucky shippers bullying anyone who likes Tony, especially when it comes to Stony or WinterIron fans, but even other Stuckies who genuinely like Tony, for example an artist who dared to make a WinterIron piece for once and got so much hatred for this that they practically stopped (and no, I’m not going to name anyone here).

- IronStrange shippers going into a poor Stony artists inbox telling them they’re ship is wrong and they should convert to IronStrange now, as if that actually would change their mind, instead of just being annoyed by this kind of childish behavior.

- Ironhusband shippers literally telling a Stony fan that they should just die because their ship was toxic. Yes, Ironhusbands – that small, pure ship. I know what I’m talking about.

- WinterFalcon shippers stalking Stony blogs to send hate.

- Tony haters lurking into a Tony-centric blog, waiting for an opportunity to start a discourse.

- Pro Tony people going into the anti tag to start a discourse.

- Both, pro and anti Tonys, pro and anti Steves, crosstagging their posts deliberately to annoy the other side.  

You think I am joking or making things up? Ha, I wish I was. Point is: If you think your sub-fandom never spreads hatred? Believe me, it does.

And yes, fact is, the ones who cause the biggest problems are Stonies and Stuckies. That’s not me being hateful, that’s just simple math. The bigger a fandom, the more toxic people you’ll find there. And guess which two sub-fandoms are the biggest ones in the MCU fandom? Exactly. Doesn’t mean that if you’re in a small fandom, that you won’t find these people – there are just less. But not none.

So, instead of pointing fingers at the others all the damn time, maybe you should take a second and look at your own place. The moment one says “it’s always the Stuckies thank god we’re not like that” I can bet with you that in the next thirty minutes a poor Stucky blog will get a hateful anon ask in their inbox.

Which is not to say that this is the anti poster’s fault. It’s not their responsibility to watch out their followers don’t harass other people. You’re allowed to like or dislike whatever you want and talk about it on your own blog, and if someone misunderstands it as “haha they’re totally right, let’s attack those people”, then this isn’t on you. But you should be aware that there are people in your fandom who will think like that. Because it’s never only the others.

So, instead of pointing fingers all the time, maybe take a second to spread awareness that this kind of asshole-ish behavior is not welcome, not in your own fandom, not towards the other ones, not towards the ones you don’t like, not towards anyone at all.

The moment you go into someone’s inbox to spread hate, the moment you start to crosstag/misstag your posts to start hateful discourse, the moment you search for something deliberately that isn’t meant for you to find a reason to attack someone, the moment you’re disrespectful towards a content creator for their interests (this includes gif makers too btw!), the moment you jump into someone’s inbox trying to change their opinion because you believe you’re right, the moment you tell someone to kill themself-

-that’s the moment you’re one of those toxic people we’re talking about.

Like what you want, hate what you want, make your posts about it, tag it fucking properly, keep away from the things you dislike, but keep in mind:

The characters are fictional.

The people behind those blogs are real.

Nothing, abso-fucking-lutely nothing, gives you the right to harass or bully or send fucking death threats to other people.

And if there was even one single second you thought I might be talking about you: Fuck yes, then this sure as shit is about you.

Stop blaming as if it were only the others, stop acting as if your fandom is on a pedestal, no matter how small it is, stop turning a blind eye on what is exactly in front of you, stop encouraging others to harass, and stop fucking harassing real life people over fictional characters for fucks sake!

And if you still think this kind of behavior is justified? Then do it openly instead of turning to anon like a coward, if you really think you’re justified – so people can fucking block you.

Someone get help, PLEASE. I've just read a fucked up one-shot where Steve and Bucky are together, Steve notices Bucky has feelings for Tony and says that they can have a polyamorous relationship, but he (Steve) ends up being so much left aside and emotionally abused that he ends up trying to commit suicide (even tho Thor saves him and he is the only one with a happy ending). Bucky broke up with him to stay only with Tony and I've almost punched the screen when Tony asked Bucky why he chose him instead of Steve and Bucky fucking COMFORTS him and addmits that he fucking KNEW Tony's plans of abusing Steve and fucking let it happen. Can you guys PLEASE send me ANY cute stucky one-shot or any fanfic (it doesn't even need to be stucky) where Bucky defends Steve from Tony? I NEED to take that damn thing off my mind.
