Once Bitten, Twice Angry - Miguel O'Hara x Anti Hero!Reader

So. This isnt planned to be a fic - in fact Im writing it on my phone (which is something I NEVER do). But the idea came to me today and its itching the inside of my skull so I decided to write it down. Its silly - just an thought experiment to get the Across the Spiderverse brain worms out.

This isnt intended to be a romantic fic, either. At the point of writing this author blurb, i dont even know how Miguel fits into it beyond the main idea of him being venomous.

"I bet you're wondering what I'm doing here." The bank robber - his name was Ryan, you remembered, and he was a pretty decent guy, just down on his luck too many times - nodded and mumbled behind the collect of irridecent that coated his mouth. You propped your foot on the side of another robber - Julian, Julius, Juli-something, he never really talked that much to you - as he tried to squirm towards his fallen weapon. "It's weird, right?" you mused, "One day, I'm the Black Cat, Nueva York's greatest burglar, the next I'm--" you cut yourself off as you hooked a foot around Juli-such-and-such's hip and tossed him across the bank floor. He released a muffled shout.

"Okay, so, what do you think of Moon Weaver?" you asked, "Too much?"

"Ain't there a Moon Knight?" someone in the bank quipped.

You twisted around, snapping your fingers down on your new, and very much stolen, web shooter. The man crumbled back against a cabinet. He was a banker, and annoying during robberies.

"I didn't ask you? I still don't know if you're gonna be saved by me yet," you replied. You turned back to Ryan. "No Moon Weaver?" you asked.

He shook his head.

"Damn," you sighed, "Anyway, I was telling this to my therapist up on the seventh floor - you should see her by the way, she's great - and we were going over how this started, but since you so rudely interrupted my therapy session, you get to hear it." You crouched in front of him. "Don't worry, you're not gonna remember a thing anyway. I'll make sure of it."

Ryan didn't reply.

You stood back up. "So, let's start at the beginning." You waved your hand as you paced away to another bank robber, kneeling to scoop up his limp ankle. "Remember that heist I was doing a few months ago? Priceless heirloom, lots of money, you know how it is. I was on the job, like normal, when that fucking Spiderman shows up." You dropped the man's ankle and crouched in front of Ryan again. "Have you ever seen him without his mask? He's kinda hot, but in that infuriating "I really wanna punch you" kinda way?"

Ryan merely stared at you. He wasn't a very good audience.

You huffed. "Anyway. He showed up, we did the whole song and dance - the chase, the quips, the obvious flirting with a good layer of sexual tension - and I give him the slip." You frowned at your own memory of that night, planting your fists on your hips. "Except, I didn't. He caught me around the corner, and we went down, grappling. I think I hit him a little too hard in a place that I shouldn't've - that's rude in a fight, you know - because he yelled and suddenly bit my shoulder." You turned back around. "He bit me! Like a four year old!"

You thought Ryan mumbled something that sounded like, "Seriously?" but it was too hard to make out.

So, you replied with, "Yeah! And I went home, and I started feeling weird." Then, you crouched again, your fingers dancing over your knees. "And you know how we all kinda know that he's a weird little freak that's, like, part spider, or werewolf, or vampire, or something freaky? Yeah, I think whatever it is gave me powers," you whispered.

Ryan's eyes went wide.

You shrugged and stood, cupping your fingers around his head. "Yeah, it was weird. And now, here we are!" Your fingers tickled as a surge of electricity arched away from them and through his skull. "Not that you'll remember it," you mumbled.

The robber thrashed as you stepped away, then slumped to the ground. You watch him for a moment, frowning, waiting to make sure he was still breathing. When he groaned, you stepped back.

Then, you snapped your fingers, turning around to face the whole group of thieves you had piled in a corner. "Oh, what about Night Spider? That's pretty cool!" you asked.

"It's pretty," came a delayed reply. You looked over your shoulder. It was a customer, one of the few that was still curled up on the floor.

You smiled, and bowed at the waist. "Why thank you," you preened, standing, and waving your arm towards the door, "What're you all still waiting around here for? Get outta here!" You watched as the customers scrambled to their feet. "And tell the cops it was Night Spider that helped you!" You backed away, eyeing an exit you normally took to escape a bank with a similar layout. "Not Spiderman."

You bolted as the cops rushed into the building.

Miguel watched from atop the roof across the street, an annoyed scowl etched deep into his face. He knew he shouldn't have bitten you that night - but how could he have known you'd have such a reaction?!

And now, you went from being a pain in his side to a fucking problem.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and groaned, swearing under his breath.

Lyla would never let him live it down.

WOOO!

its official! we've hit 1k followers sometime last night while i was sleeping! as we already have planned. i already plan on writing a oneshot (or two, its hard to say as theres already a vote for the fandom going on and creepypasta is reaaaal close to TADC! if it ties i will do both) so keep a look out for any polls that will be floating around! its going to be a blog wide "lets build a fic together" sort of thing! one of the polls is already up!

naturally its going to take a while since tumblr only have 2 time limit options for polls and i dont want to use a different site as i feel this is more convenient for everyone </3 as soon as this poll is done there will be a second poll determining the character and there will be a third event where i will let you guys send in prompts and there will be another vote! then the fic itself will be written!

now onto another thing! when i started this blog i didnt think we'd ever get this far.. and honestly i didnt think i would have written this much as this blog was mostly started in order to give me something to do during the day. around this time of year last year! (i... forgot to do something for the first anniversary of this blog but hush hush i was sick)

i just woke up so my wording is all over the place but i do want to thank everyone for being so invested in my writing; new and old followers! i didnt think my silly little writings would mean to much to other people, or that my ideas were worthwhile at all so im really touched that you guys think they are you know? and i want to thank older followers who have stuck around during my different interests! while this blog has for the most part been creepypasta (and as of late TADC), i have had phases in other fandoms (though short lived to match with my real time hyperfixiation in it). this blog was never intended to be a solo fandom account, but?? i forgot how i was going to word this but im happy that people still stuck through after finding me through say. overwatch or spiderverse but kept around for my other stuff. rolls around

how do you plan or write the script for your webcomic that it isn't to difficult for yourself to understand and turn into pages?

THIS IS A GREAT QUESTION! It's certainly something that's very tricky to figure out at first and tends to be really case-by-case, but scripting 800 pages worth of script later I mostly know what I'm doing and what works for me!

I tend to keep in mind the pacing of a page when I write it out and keep it brief as I can unless I really want to be specific or write notes for myself or be funny- and I mark when a new page starts and ends as well as mark new scenes and the time of day for lighting directions. I tend to give myself a LOT of wiggle room for my directions so I can take artistic liberty- though if I have a solid idea that I think is really cool at the moment I'll write it out more in-depth.

Here's an example of the scripting vs pages from the recent chapter:

I also write down emotions I as a person will understand when translating it visually later- this is my current favorite example

dont be afraid to get silly with it!! I've been scripting for over 5 years and I've only just solidified a style for it that's still evolving! I think my favorite inspiration for scripting is this bit from Spiderverse:

Adding little details to up the drama can help translate a LOT! AND HAVE FUN!

ok spiderman p5 au thing that infests my brain is coming out

mostly based on ultimate spiderman and spiderverse since those are the 2 im super familiar with.

akira is spider-man obviously. after getting sent to tokyo because of the normal p5 reasons he gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gets the normal spider powers (proportional strength, spider sense, heightened agility), with the addition of being able to get a better read on people's thought process (i dont think spiders can actually do this but i wanted to reference the personas in some way) and induce a low level of delusion in other people, making them more likely to tell the truth with a spider toxin thing. you know the deal i can make shit up. hes initially unwilling to be spider-man until stuff really gets bad with kamoshida, and then is only willing to do it whilst disguised to avoid fucking up his criminal record even more. loves actually being spiderman tho.

sojiro is almost unchanged except stuff with wakaba is different but hes still gruff but comes to love akira in more or less the same way as in p5. hates when theres supervillain fights outside his cafe (oops)

ryuji learn's akira's secret immediately and encourages him to be a hero, partly bc he thinks its cool, partly because he thinks he has a responsibility to use his powers for justice of some kind, partly to get back at kamoshida for being a massive piece of shit. he stays akira's best friend throughout his time in tokyo and almost has his side.

ann is 2nd to learn akira's secret and also encourages him to fight kamoshida (im getting to him btw). She designs the suit as well and makes it with akira. she also wants akira to be a hero but is much more cautious and worried about things than ryuji

i have no idea what to do with morgana but im thinking hes gonna be another superhero, idk what tho. probably like a shapeshifter or something? more thought is required.

Kamoshidas like. a superhero who double times as a teacher, still an abusive shitbag but now hes like publically worshipped. hes akiras first big fight after akira spreads the truth about him with calling cards and gets him to admit to his crimes publically, at which point he has to run away in shame. partly i based him on kamoshidaman (although i dont actually know anything abt pq2 im just assuming) and also mysterio in far from home.

shiho is basically the same except ill bring her back into the story later for something. havent planned that far ahead. she will date ann tho.

most other characters i only have vague ideas for, such as makoto having an alive father (nothing bad could happen to a police captain father in a spider man story surely) and futaba developing tech for akira. its the only way i can think to get him webslingers tbh. for akechi i have something cooking as well but im writing a fic for this so i kinda dont wanna spoil that bc i think its cool. im trying my best to be accurate to the characters personalities ut akira will probably be more quippy than usual bc it just feels wrong for any spider man not to quip. so yeah. other than that i think he maps onto spider man pretty well tbh, hes got the public hate campaign, the saviour complex, the sense of justice, hes stylish and hes got a social life going on to manage at the same time. haru also has some specific stuff i wanna do with her.

also this is a marvel like au so other superheros exist but its an americacentric phenomenon however the phoenix ranger feathermen are real. idk what ill do with them but they are bc it felt wrong to only have like 2 superheros. there might be others too. idk. maybe its more of ust a superhero au with specific marvel ideas. wahtever.

if i had the time and skill to do art for this id love to do it in the style of the original p5 intro with limited colours other than red and black to white spectrum. it would look cool and set it apart visually. also it would look a bit like the guy she was intereted in which i love visually so yeah.

anyway yea this is a pretty specific crossover so cant wait for no-one to care but yea ill update this with more later

Okay okay okay. Soooo I just finished the movie

And Omg it was so good Omg. First of all!! The ART it’s so. Pretty. And I love how, even though they changed around and experimented with the art styles, the entire movie was very obviously from that Franchise.

And the CHARACTERS. Hobbie and Patvir!!! My beloveds!! And Mayday (the baby, I think her name was)!!! How Patvir’s entire dimension was a different artstyle! How Hobbie’s artstyle followed him!!

And Miles grew up!! And so did Gwen!! And it was done *so well*! (Also, trans rights. you cannot convince me a single person in this movie was cis. there is literally no way)

Also MIGUEL HOLY SHIT. Way to have beef with a literal sophomore — man can’t even go to the *bathroom* without raising his hand and asking for a pass!!

The scenes were all so beautiful. Every. Single. Fight scene. In the India-Spiderverse was BEAUTIFUL. The scene with Gwen and Miles in the beginning.

And the WRITING OF THE ENDING. I, personally, think they paced it WONDERFULLY

And yeah even though it wasnt said outloud or officially, I'm entirely on the side that Gwen is meant to be trans. People who brush off the flag and the trans-coded speech she gave to her dad honestly dont realize how queer friendly the movie production was (Like queer artists and allies working on it) and that EVERY LITTLE detail of this movie is planned out purposely. Every little background, trans flags/colors, her speech and the meanings behind it were planned out and well.....I just think the queer interpretation everyones getting was no accident.

I remember when I thought the first movie was peak animation then they just blew it the wway with this one somehow!!! They just keep raising the bar and I'm lovingggg it. All the new character models and backgrounds for different universes look phenomenal<33

LOVED the cliffhanger ending. That shit gave me psychic damage at the end of the film and that's god damn compliment. The hype was so intense and I'm actually sooo glad were getting another movie. Lots of potential for more content and screentime for some characters who's didnt get much this film.. urrrgh!!! cant wait!!! Super glad I got you to watch it, hope it was worth itt<33 :]

I need to get this of my chest. My parents have had enough of listening to me saying the same shit over and over again.

I feel like nobody talks about this enough. I'm almost an adult yet I haven't experienced being desired by someone romantically. I naver hold hands kissed, texted with someone or even had a crush. I kinda accepted that theres a big chance of me being aromamtic but just because i am aro doesnt mean i want to be. Theres nothing wrong with being aro but I want to know how it feels. How its possible that one person makes someone so happy, I want to feel that. I want to be desired, to have someone that appriciates me and maybe an ego bust. Idk about being in a relationship but someone having a crush on me or smh. To confirm that Im lovable. Of course I'm still young and have plenty time to experience it but I feel like it will never happen. I want to feel wanted, to have someone that cherished me. To have a deeper connection. Maybe the issue lies in me being unlikeable? The last time I had someone I could call my best friend I was in primary school. I have friends, I'm just never their first option. We mostly see each other at school, but when we do go out I just know we don't click. I sit there all day waiting to go home. I feel very often sad and frustrated because of this. I'm not seeking a romantic relationship but a platonic one. Yet I'm still unsuccessful in finding both. People say that you find love when you dont try, it comes naturally. That I need to focus on myself but when I do this I only see my classmates and family so where would it even come from. I have a big problem with meeting new people. I don't know how to do it. For the past 3 years I have been working on myself. Since then I can actually talk to someone without stressing out and crying. I signed up for multiple events in my school just to meet new people and it never happens. I'm so lost, i dont know what to do. In primary school I felt fulfilled because I was around people I genuinely liked. They made me happy, my life didnt revolve around them but they were making my everyday life nicer. Still we werent that close and we lost contact. We dont call, meet, or even write to each other. Some of them met their current partners and just gave up on friends. People prioritising romantic relationships over platonic are shallow and fell victim of patriarchy. It seems like by society our only goal in life is to find a romantic partner, get married and have kids. Even if it's someone lgbt who cant have bio children, people still expect them to find their "other half", because it's "how life works". I feel like I'm never going to love anyone and nobody is going to love me. I have this one closer friend that always has my back just like I have theirs but they're always so busy with other people. It hurts honestly so much. Like half a year ago we went to see spiderverse since and I decided to be bold. I asked them If I could videocall them that night because I had so many thoughts after the movie. But they said that tonight they had already made plans with someone else. There's nothing wrong with it but at that moment it hit me. They're always doing something and I can never make plans with them because of it. I value them more then they value me. I'm not their first choice person. I was also restraining myself from becoming to close/depended on them because in the past being too clingy made me lose friends. So why everyone has someone close and I don't. Why I don't have someone I could do matching bracelets with or pfp. I'm a filler person. I here just because not bc anyone wants me. I want to make more irl friends but I don't know how. I know it's not my personality or looks but something is wrong with me. I think it's because I miss a lot of social clues but idk. I just want friends.

Okay ive been thinking about it now for 2 days and I think i really wanna write it what happened about our date.

SO FIRST OFF, I got pissed off early on because he said he was gonna be like 30mins late for our movie. And that really pissed me off.. I just said, okay.. ofcourse im not gonna tell him that Im pissed off. But i think he sensed it bc i just reply smtg like.. “Oh ok then”

Then he said he was joking.. 🙄🙄

But i didnt read his msg that he was just joking so for like 30mins i was so pissed. I was thinking to myself this is gonna be the last time im gonna hang out with him.. cuz man its such a turn off honestly.. like?? Yknow we had plans, you shud be prepared and then hes gonna tell me hes going to be 30mins late??? Also he doesnt have work that day, if he had work i wud have understand but no. He wasnt doing anything prior so why is he gonna be late?? So that was going thru my mind for 30mins and when i saw his msg i was so upset and relieved at the same time that he was just joking..

Fast forward now, we saw eo.. we watched Spiderverse! :) I really enjoyed that a lot. Still so funny tho, even more funnier cuz ive seen some memes that made it funnier. Also, him beside me laughing is so cute! Man.. am i down bad again? So yeah that was the movie part. Nothing really much happened.

Then after movie, we went to the mall to walk around.. he said he was looking for some daily shorts.. so we visited a few shops. We saw his bestfriend.. we just talked for a bit, it was nice seeing her but ngl it felt really weird and by that time i felt smtg.. like a tinge of uneasiness.. idk how to act and idk what to say.. i mean do i invite her to come with us?? But its our date idk how he will feel as well.. but at the same time idk if he knows that hes gonna meet his friend.. that was really weird to me but i didnt pay attention too much of it.. i was just worried that ill act awkward and wudnt be able to convey my own feelings nicely.. but after that we said our goodbyes and we started walking to the restaurant..

Tbh.. at that point i just wanna go home, the mood wasnt really it anymore.. idk what it was but i feel like i accepted it already that this is not gonna work out.. sometimes i really dont like how hes so into himself like?? He likes to dress up and such and he cares for his looks but sometimes for me i think its a bit much.. idk..

We got to the restaurant, we waited for a bit then we ate.. i didnt like the main course.. i ordered chicken alfredo but i do like the soup that comes with it so i got 2 soups cuz he doesnt want his soup. There, while eating we got to talk more.. i feel like this time around is very different from our first date night out when it was for my bday. I had fun talking yo him.. he did ask me about my preferences in a guy.. its funny cuz whenever i say smtg like,, i wud say i dont want a lazy person

He wud react and be like.. damn im a lazy one..

I told him, i want someone who is thoughtful..

And he laughed, im not thoughtful just so yknow.. im really not..

And in my head.. why r u telling me that?? I already know ure not also im not telling u to be thoughtful to me..

And it went on and on.. we keep getting sidetracked with other stuff so we kept repeating the qs and as.

I did tell him that Spiderverse played a huge part in my life, like it really inspired me. I told him the part what got me and i told him i know its cringe..

But he said its not cringey at all.. and that made me happy :))

It went on and on until we got to dessert. He asked me when were about to end if we can walk around first before going home.. tbh i wanted to go home right after but since he asked :> also i lowkey wanna spend time with him so ofc i said yes! At this point im really comfy talking about anything with him, i was honest with my as and such, also the qs he was asking i did ask him as well. It was nice getting to know him.. tho i think i already know the stuff we talked about..

He did say smtg about hes a firm believer that theres always a way. Which i admire him for it… okk thats it for now i guess..

so when we left the restaurant, i suddenly remember what is one of the main things i like about someone and that is, he cannot be negative in life. i told him that the person i want is not pessimistic. then he said, somewhere along the lines like..

tbh i feel like life is already sad and challenging? but its up to u if u wanna stay that way. like, life isnt always good for me but i dont wanna dwell on it. i always wanna look at the brighter side. he did say that not all days are good days. and its true! i know that and its hard to stay positive but still, life is only what you make it. i iddnt tell him that but.. i got really really happy and fuzzy and warm inside we he said that thats what he like about me being positive. :D because i do want to give positivity to people eventho im not always positive. im just faking it till u i make it basically. but i always tell myself i cant be sad all the time. i cant be like my classmate M who always so negative bc once u think negative thoughts it reflects on ur life. so only happy and positive thoughts.

so yeah that is one of my requirements, i dont want that gloomy energy in my life so i told him that. then we kept walking, harbour front is so pretty at night, im sad i didnt take a photo of the scenery.

one of the core memory of that date was when he said i was dramatic, in a good way. and i was baffled! i was like ??? excuse me? im not dramatic T.T then he goes on and explained that im dramatic in a good way. like: oh my god? you are lifting? oh my god? that is so cool!

and im just there listening to him like??? no im not like that! but he still kept going saying yes you are like that.

i guess im really expressive sometimes.. idk?? but yeah then we just going and going.. cant even remember half of the things we talked about..

only thing we got us going home is looking for a washroom.. cuz we wanted to go pee and we cudnt find one lol.

yeah i don’t plan on backing down on my strong views about spider-man and i’ll defend miles as the best superhero of all time to my grave. i was first introduced to the spider-verse when they released the fist spider-gwen comic. (like seriously i had the first volume pre-ordered and everything) spider-man and all variants of spider-man is something i hold very near and dear to my heart.

spider-man: into the spider-verse is probably the best piece of cinema i’ve ever seen and i’m not just saying that because i’m a spider-man fan. from an artistic standpoint it was revolutionary. the writing is phenomenal. i’ve watched the movie countless times and have seriously looked to find anything to critique and there’s hardly anything they didn’t handle flawlessly.

so yeah i’ve got beef with the fact that it’s not thought of as highly as say, toby maguire’s movies. the main reason that it’s not put on the same pedestal is not just that it’s animation but because miles isn’t peter and the dudebro comic book fans don’t like that (and i’m not even gonna get into the racism aspect of it because it’s so blatant at this point)

but despite being an animated movie it still held up against the live action marvel movies and also got miles’ story out there. it got so much hype that spider-man: miles morales for the ps5 was one of the most hyped up games for next-gen consoles. i mean the first game was amazing but still i couldn’t BELIEVE how much hype it was getting.

if you had told me all those years ago while i was sitting in that comic book shop with 20 spider-man comics that it would’ve changed my life this much i would’ve laughed.

i’d like to see the mcu try to make a spider-man movie that’s HALF as revolutionary as spider-verse was.

Hello! Just about to sit down and read your newest fic, so excited about it! I had a question for you (you very well may have answered this already, so sorry in advance!), but do you have advice for writing? Advice in terms of getting start, plotting out stories, helping get the creative juices flowing? I have all these ideas but seem to lack the drive to get things written out. I know the best advice is to just write, but I'm having a horrible time starting. What do you do in those moments?

Hello my dear!

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. The lord has blessed me with a head cold and ruined all my plans of productivity for the day, so I can finally answer this ask! I’ll talk a little bit about both how to get started with a story and then some little things that help me motivate myself.

This is going to be a long post, sorry mobile users.

I am going to preface all of this with the understanding that I am technically a professional writer in terms of like, a handful of ways, but I have absolutely zero training in creative writing, so take everything I say with a grain of salt!

So, I personally find that, on the whole, that psychological hurdle of getting started comes a lot from the anticipation of the kind of response a story will get (how many hits, how many comments, how many kudos) in addition to a bit of anxiety or fear over theloss of sustained interest in that story (by yourself and/or by your audience). I find that this can be alleviated by really, truly internalizing the understanding that you are allowed to write your work however you damn please, for whoever you damn please.

There will be work you write for others, and there will be work you write for yourself. Not all work needs to be published; sometimes, it is really nice to just write shit for yourself; it is a plus for humanity if you decide to share it with others, but you do not have to do that.

Furthermore, I would like to present you with this:

This is what my current folder for under fire looks like. And you might notice that there are almost always multiple drafts per chapter. Yes, I did in fact rewrite chapter four 5 fucking times, you bet your ass I did. And I’m not ashamed of it. I think the story is better for it. And that’s the important thing here: you do not need to produce a perfect draft the first time around. You will not produce that perfect draft. Accept this. Embrace this. Embrace it and your cat at the same time to really ingrain it as a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Liberate yourself from the pressure of needing to produce the perfect, most right draft and you may find starting the piece overall to be a much easier, more pleasant experience.

And along with this beautiful, uplifting spiritual advice, I also bring a practical thought: when it comes to getting started, a lot of times, people feel like they need to set the stage, yadda yadda yadda. Ha. No. Fuck that.

That’s a surefire way to bore the shit out of yourself. Start right in the middle of a scene that captivates you if that’s what you want to write. It’s a free platform. No one’s gonna arrest you if you stick Spiderman upside down in trash first thing. They might even applaud you actually, because you didn’t make them slog through some of that ‘It was the evening of the 25th and it was cold out in the streets” bullshit we all learned from Dickens.

Alright. Now let’s talk about actually getting started making words appear on paper.

So, from my knowledge there are generally two ways that folks write creatively. You have what I’m going to call the planners and then you what I’m going to call the monsters (I call them this entirely affectionately, I’m sure there’s a better word for these folks, but I don’t have it atm, all I have is a headcold). Planners are folks who sit down and work out their major plot points, who write outlines, and who create the scaffolding of their work before they set out on their magical journey. I think of these folks as architects.

And then you have the monsters and these are those fuckers who just sit down and write stream of consciously like the heathens all our high school teachers tried to teach us not to be.

I am both a planner and a monster. And a lot of that depends on the length of work I’m going for. I have never in my life planned a one-shot, for example. I just attack that as it is. I follow my heart, if you will. But when it comes to longer chaptered fics, I really do think that some outlining is super helpful.

You might find it useful for one-shots, though, I dunno. Maybe give it a try and see what happens?

The two main fics I’ve done proper outlines for are Inimitable and under fire and I actually find outlining to be immensely helpful in psyching me up to write the story (I go through and re-read my outlines when I start to lose interest or diverge too much from the plot outlined there in the actual writing. 9 times out of 10, re-reading gets me stupid excited to write all over again) and it also helps me keep momentum going throughout the plot.

Here’s a pic of some pages of under fire’s outline.

Physically writing the work is really important for me because it forces me to only put down key points/feelings/ideas I want to include, whereas typing gives me far too much room to get lost/distracted by extraneous detail. And since my handwriting is a teacher’s worst nightmare and I cross out shit and write huge with emotion, I’ll give you a little bit of what the middle page here says:

Miles-

there’s something thrumming

vibrating in his ears wherever he goes

-closes his eyes and somehow enters blackness- emptyness (Stranger Things style)

beat

“help.”

–BACK - everything is gone

closing his eyes doesn’t bring the space back

–it makes him panic. He doesn’t know why. His heart is pounding. He’s sweating He has a horrible feeling of doom.

beat

its gone.

he goes home anxiously. Pretends everything is normal.

his neck crawls

So basically it’s less of a formal outline and more of a collection of stream of consciousness feelings and screenplay directions which I’ll flesh out in the actual story.

Personally, I love writing these kinds of things because they get me pumped for the story I’m about to tell. I get to write out the key scenes and work through all the hard parts first, and then, while I’m writing, I work through the little fun details and banter and I have to write to figure out how we get from one scene to the next and I love the challenge of having to fit those pieces together. I very rarely stick strictly to my outline, (as anyone who is currently reading under fire can tell you right now), but I do try to stick to the main plot points in it and my writing is certainly better for it.

So yes. Outlining is very good, but it is even better when you do it to some kind of music. I listened to What’s Up Danger from the Into the Spiderverse soundtrack on repeat while I wrote this outline to kind of transfer some of the relentless pace conveyed in that song to the piece’s plot.

I highly recommend using music to set the mood of your piece while/before you write a piece of any length. It helps get you in the right headspace (excited or somber or angry) to write. You need emotion to write creatively. You can’t just make that happen sometimes; you need a little help.

A couple other things which might help:

1. Leave your house or the space you’re normally in. Go to a cafe and find a nice corner and have a think and a try in there. Sometimes moving to a different space helps you escape cyclical thinking patterns.

2. Write what you want to read. Don’t bother writing for other peoples’ interests; that’ll just bore the shit out of you all over again.

3. Find an atmospheric mood sound to listen to on Youtube or smth (I personally like Rain on a Car Windshield for slightly somber fics, but you might be into ocean storms or dripping caves or whatever).

4. Heat your feet. I don’t know why but I am entirely unproductive when my feet are cold. Maybe this one is me-specific, but whatevs. Heat the feets!

5. If you’re still having trouble just sitting down and pounding the story out, that’s okay! Maybe it’s not ready to be written yet. Maybe you’re not in the right headspace yet. Sometimes that’s just how it is. One story makes its way out in like, a hour, and the next one takes like, months to finally be written. We all work at different paces. We all write for different reasons.

It might help to figure out why you want to write a story before you write it. Like, if its for attention, it’s gonna be hard as hell. But if there’s an idea that you feel like is important or if there’s a mood you’re trying to work yourself into or out of, then that might be a little easier. For example, I wrote a piece called make it work which is about Fogs finding his motivation to be a lawyer and fight for justice when Kavanaugh was confirmed and I felt super helpless in the face of our present justice system. That story kind of wrote itself and it needed to be written, I feel, not just for me, but for others who were feeling just as helpless.

Writing is catharsis in that way. Maybe you just need to find out what you need to wring out of your soul.

Sorry that got very metaphysical. But I do want to stress that getting started and ending a story are the hardest parts of writing them, so you are definitely not alone if you feel like you’re ramming your head into a wall here.

I need writing advice.

god help me

so like I watched into the spiderverse when it came out and saw all the ocs people were making for it and I was like "I wanna do that!!"

I came up with 4 spider-people and a villain, following the spiderverse movie plot.

the characters are all original and not inspired by the spiderverse characters, and I have spent so much time obsessing over them and redesigning them so they're perfect and creating personalities and backstories. but the problem is is that I didnt come up with a plot. so i formatted the characters and backstory around the spiderverse movie plot. I even have whole ass scenes planned out in my head!!! i have so much stuff!! just not an original plot.

I dont know what to do, I love these characters and the story I made for them, but I dont want to just copy paste a plot.

the villains have different motives even! Im just lost, I feel like it would make a good story and i would love to work on it more but I dont want to have such a major plot point be copied from something else.

(alt) park peters -he/him - isnt a hero - was in an explosion involving the main bad business and lost limbs, they gave him a foot, a leg knee down, an arm elbow down, a hand, and an eye (they allow the functions of the other spider-people) - he was in a bad financial place and volunteered for human psychological testing, got in an explosion there - they gave him the limbs in exchange for him keeping quiet and not leaving their facilities???? help idk - his family was told he died - he is tested to see the limits and abilities of the prosthetics and test new ideas

(alt) gray bennett - they/them - steam spider? spider mech? - jane's love interest - comforting, fun, jokester, people-person - comes from futuristic steampunk era??? or just likes steampunk??? idk i just really want a steampunk spider-man ok - built their own suit after being bit by a spider affected by nuclear warfare radiation - optimist

(alt) inami - she/her - interweb - in her universe most crime is cyber crime - she works with the gov, mostly digitally-hacking, sometimes fieldwork/physically-hacking (i dont know computer stuff dont come for me) - when she is in the field/to the public her identity is unknown and wears a mask, goes by interweb - logical, passionate, calm - complains about the little things

FanFics that I've thought of, but don't have motivation for :P

The gods lost their fight vs Kronos - Remember the Battle Of Manhattan? The battle where millions of brave warriors fell in the hands of both sides. The battle where 2 different sides were bound to fight their own siblings. The battle went horribly, and in the end the Titan Lord won. The Olympians' throne got destroyed and was sent to Tartarus to rot for eternity. But after decades, the Olympians started gaining consciousness, the same way Kronos did. Their spirit soared, searching for a pure-hearted mortal (because their demigods are no more) to host their spirit and defeat the Lord of Time himself.

Anyway, this story focuses more on world building of the dystopian and post-apocalyptic world, and how humanity can survive under the dictatorship of the Titans. So then we have 12 mortals hosting gods (kinda like kc but focuses more on the setting, world building, character depth and arc).

The gods from different pantheons and a quest -

The world was normal, until a bright light flashed and one by one gods started appeared here. But what will they do? How can they get back to their own worlds?

This story got an inspiration from "Spider-Man Into The SpiderVerse". In a world where everyone is an atheist, the gods (from different pantheon) suddenly gets teleported into this world. They were told that the pantheon with the most believers can get back to their world. At first, the different pantheons had some rivalry, but slowly they made a truce and decided to have the same amount of followers (also because they can destroy the world if they fight each other, because either common sense or pROpheCy.) But there will be a pantheon who betrayed the others' trust and have more followers. And will they succeed?

Hermes, Dio, and Pollo being bros - that's it. That's the tea.

I actually have more ideas but my brain is lagging rn, so uhh some ff writing tips i guess :/

Plan your plot ahead.

Add character depth and arc, please.

Engage the reader with a bit of ✨spice✨ every now and then.

Fluff is better then smut!!!!

Try to world build, while character building, it helps the reader connect to the world and character.

Try making ur own characters :D but dont make em MARY-GODDAMN-SUES

Slow burn are more interesting
