The sun was blazing, absolutely scorching as it shone down upon the dunes of sandy Afghanistan. War-torn Kunar, to be more specific. The light breeze was still warm against the bare faces of the soldiers. Most, if not all, wishing that they could, at least, roll up their sleeves in hopes to cool themselves down somewhat.
You were amongst many of them.
But still in a worse position than your superiors.
Helmet strapped upon your head. Bulletproof vest tight against your torso, all the while holding a rifle.
You were sweating buckets.
But you were used to it now.
Soldiers from all different ranks and departments of the United States Air Force stood around, waiting for one man alone.
Antony Howard Stark.
The CEO of Stark Industries.
The foremost contraction company that the United States Military bought their weapons from.
The man was a hero to the cause, for some.
A warmonger to others.
A man who profited from death and destruction.
'The Merchant Of Death'.
You were one of the latter.
One of the few in the military who believed so.
But a man who profited off the people you saw die and tried to save -innocent lives. Me, women, children. Your fellow soldiers- was not a man you were jumping to like.
"Okay, come on, let's get this show on the road!"
He was also the man who had just arrived after being awarded the Apogee Award, not two days prior. Strutting in front of the small gathered crowd, to be stood before the scenic mountainscape, using it as his backdrop.
"Is it better to be feared or respected?" Tony started his sales speech, "I say, is it too much to ask for both? With that in mind, I humbly present the crown jewel of Stark Industries' 'Freedom Line'."
You ticked your brow momentarily at that, thankful that your superiors didn't notice.
"It's the first missile system to incorporate our proprietary repulsor technology. They say the best weapon is the one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how dad did it. That's how America does it. And it's worked out pretty well so far. Find an excuse to let one of these off the chain, and I personally guarantee you the bad guys won't even want to come out of their caves."
And that is all the reasoning you needed to dislike the billionaire.
Tony then waved over to the loaded missiles, causing the gathered officers to turn their heads, following the show.
A single matt sand coloured projectile fires up before blasting its way through the sky.
It reminded you of a spaceship with the way it purposefully broke apart. The metal, falling from the sky, descending to land into the ground below. Small firework-like rocket's ejecting from within their end's lighting up with high-pitched whistles. The core part of the missile drops to join the rest of the case upon the ground. As the smaller ones head in the direction of the mountains.
"For your consideration, the Jericho," he finished, perfectly time with the same moment that the missiles hit their destination.
A whorping sound filled the air, a clear line moving directly towards the group as the man slowly raised his arms out by his sides. Explosions lit up the mountains, tremendous eruptions of dirt, stone, and sand flying before your vision was overtaken by the sound blast. Blowing hats from your superiors heads and making Tony stumble forward a few steps.
You, however, didn't budge in the slightest, from where you stood alone on the large stone area not too far from the arrogant man.
Well...
That was a lie.
The explosion ruffled your uniform like crazy, even around the bulletproof vest you wore. It had enough power for you to have to reposition your footing.
It was a few minutes later after you had escorted the man back to the area surrounded by weapons cases, watching him strut to a bar masquerading as one. Were you approached by Colonel Rhodes.
"What do you think about the missile, Sergeant?"
"I think it was outstanding, Colonel. It would be a great asset for us," you told him honestly. Because, even if you weren't the biggest fan of Tony Stark, you could still admit when his creations would come in useful.
"And Tony?" he asked, smiling knowingly.
"I'll be throwing one of these in. With every purchase of five-hundred million or more."
"He's a born salesman, sir." You pulled a fake smile onto your face after overhearing the billionaire's words.
The Colonel hummed.
"Was it really that obvious?" you asked the man. Referencing your disdain for his best friend and hoping none of your other superiors managed to spot it, too.
"No." He shook his head. "I just know how you feel about him."
You bowed your head to the man as he walked away and towards his friend.
James Rhodes was not only Tony Stark's friend. He was yours, too.
You remembered how drunk you were when you admitted your feelings about the man to him on a night out. Rhodey only laughed and clapped you on the back in return.
He may not have liked you practically hating his best friend, but he could still understand your reasoning's behind it, after all, he didn't agree with Tony one-hundred per cent of the time, either. And he also knew that you would not let your feelings get in the way of your duties, nor would you repeat your words if you weren't intoxicated beyond belief and were on the subject.
You went back to base camp right after watching three Humvees drive away, kicking up sand and dust behind them, as they escorted Tony Stark back to his plane.
It was at the base where you were notified of the ambush and subsequent kidnapping of the man.
Everything was hectic, people running to where they were ordered, following protocol on situations like this.
You, only managing to say one thing, "Jesus fucking Christ."

What Makes a Family? Pt18
AO3   Beginning   Previous   Next
“And what price are they going to have to pay for your magic?” Marinette couldn’t help but smile at the protective tone in Bruce’s voice as he glared at Plagg. She was beyond relieved that he seemed to be a good person and even her Guardian instincts were calm around him.
“The Miraculous are all about balance. In our case, as true Chosen, they affect us whether we use them or not. That’s why Cass’ life has been so difficult and mine has been relatively calm. Actually being in possession of Plagg’s ring will make things better for her. As for other holders, it varies. The longer you hold a Miraculous the more it pulls out certain traits in you. Good or bad depends on both the person and how in tune with the Miraculous they are.” Chloe’s over protective nature and Adrien’s possessiveness were both likely side effects of being holders but there was no way for her to know for certain.
“So they begin to turn you into a different person?” Marinette was shaking her head before he was even finished. She really wasn’t good at explaining things to other people.
“No. Any traits that the Miraculous bring out were already there. If anything they bring out a person’s true nature so they can’t hide who they really are. My former partner for instance was always showing his best face to the world around him but Plagg’s influence allowed those looking for it the ability to see some of his less desirable qualities. Especially when transformed.” While it made perfect sense that the ring had brought out the things Adrien felt he had to hide from the world, she still felt guilty. She also had to wonder how different his life would have been if she’d found her real Black Cat sooner. Cass burrowed into her side.
“Not your fault.” Marinette just hugged her twin closer. Even if Fu had picked Adrien, as the current Guardian he had still been her responsibility. She’d let her knowledge of his personal life define how she treated him when she should have simply judged his actions as a hero. It had been reckless and irresponsible. She’d put everyone at risk. She felt a vibration at her side and actually laughed when she realized Cass was purring to calm her down.
“Well if I needed any more proof that you are Plagg’s chosen, the fact that you’re picking up cat traits without even having the ring on you would have done it.” Cass stopped abruptly and buried her head into Marinette’s shoulder with an embarrassed whine. Mari just grinned and kissed her temple to try and soothe her. “At least yours is cute. The first trait I picked up was reflex bleeding.” It was a small consolation that Lila had a rash for over a month after grabbing her.
“Do I want to know what that is?” Marinette offered Bruce a commiserating smile. It was a lot to process.
“My skin secretes a toxic substance when I feel threatened. Sadly enough it’s actually helped in battles before. Poor baby August tried to eat me a few times while Akumatized.” Bruce just blinked at her and Marinette could practically hear him thinking ‘what the fuck?’ She grinned at him. “Once you’ve actually been through an Akuma attack, remind me to show you footage of past battles. It will prove educational and quite possibly entertaining.”
“You expect me to be entertained by one of my children almost being eaten?” He sounded insulted at the suggestion but Marinette rolled her eyes.
“No, but the fact that Hawkmoth tends to Akumatize the worst suited people into villains should. The only reason he’s still around is because he’s a coward. If I could find him all of this would be over in a heartbeat. Hopefully with Cass here my luck will keep shifting for the better.”
“I thought you were the one with good luck.” Mari let out a frustrated breath.
“Technically yes. However having the Miraculous active, especially with the ring being held by someone so much less in tune than I am, has been affecting me. It’s gotten better since I added other permanent holders but certain things haven’t improved at all. Also, the Kwami are of the opinion that Cass and I rubbed off some of our luck on each other in the womb. It’s likely the reason she ended up with you around the same time I first became Ladybug. Being together will allow us to buffer each other.” Bruce was still frowning at her but it seemed more contemplative than anything else.
“Cass.” She watched her sister peek at Bruce from her position. “What do you want to do?” Marinette let out an approving hum at the question. She got a strange sense of satisfaction that he treated Cass with such care even though she wasn’t his. He wasn’t as warm as her parents, but it was obvious he did care.
“Stay. Help.” Bruce let out a sigh but nodded. Cass relaxed further and Marinette could feel contentment radiating off her.
“So Selina said you’re a fashion designer?” Marinette rose an eyebrow at the subject change. “Since there’s nothing more to be done at present about what’s going on in Paris and it doesn’t appear to be an urgent issue, I would like to get to know you and I’m sure Cass does too.” She felt Cass nod.
“Yes, I’m a fashion designer. It was always what I wanted to do, but my actual start was one of the first twists of fate after I got my Miraculous. I ended up designing something for Jagged Stone and everything just sort of took off from there.” Cass stiffened slightly and Marinette saw Bruce’s eye twitch.
“You’re the designer he’s always bragging about?” Marinette felt her face flush. It hadn’t really occurred to her that he would be familiar with Jagged. Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose. “The boys are not going to leave you alone. Dick, Jason, and Tim have a running bet over who can get a commission from you first. I apologize in advance for whatever happens at dinner.” She laughed at his dry tone and caught Cass’ smile out of the corner of her eye.
“I assure you it can’t be worse than Uncle Jagged himself. He introduces me to all my new clients and I swear it gets more embarrassing every time. I’m fairly certain he practices just to annoy me.” Bruce’s mouth twitched into something between a smile and a grimace.
“Do not underestimate the boys’ ability to be annoying or embarrassing. That’s not even counting the fact that Damian is likely to challenge you to a duel in order to prove that he’s meant to be my true heir and I have no idea what weapons he managed to smuggle on the plane.” Marinette rolled her eyes. Why wasn’t she surprised?
“I take it Talia’s teachings are still strong?” He frowned at her. Oh right, he didn’t know she knew. “When she and Ra’s were in Paris she enjoyed bragging about him and his bloodlines. That’s how I figured out you were Batman. But don’t worry, I can handle him.” The skeptical look he shot her just made her grin. “Trust me. Besides, I just have to prove I’m not a threat to him. Given that I have no wish to take over your business and I have my own hero problems to worry about there’s no reason for him to take issue with me.” Bruce still seemed uncertain but Cass signed something at him and he nodded.
“I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.” While Bruce obviously doubted her, she felt nothing but confidence from her twin. As nervous as she was to meet the others, Damian trying to kill her wasn’t that big a problem. At least with him, she knew what to expect.

So I Don’t Forget Again: A Breath of The Wild fanfiction
Entry 208: Zora’s Domain
 Sidon made me breakfast. He made things I had taught him to make back at Hateno, he had to wake up very early to get the ingredients on time. He tried to hide it, but I could see he was a little sleepy through the whole day, he’s had such little rest. I really appreciate this, him just focusing on me, almost like there’s nothing else, but I don’t want him to push himself. Though I want to thank him all the same. He just makes me feel so special and safe, in a way unlike anything else, I guess. I feel like he really sees me, like he truly wants me. I don’t know how to describe this, but I want to. I want to pour these feelings into these pages, have him read this so he can know just how much he means to me, how he’s an irreplaceable part of my life, how he
I just want him to know as amazing as he finds me, I find him to be just the same. He’s much more eloquent with words than me, so maybe he’d know how to write this, but I want to at least try, even if this is just kinda incoherent thoughts by now.
We went to market, it’s a bit away from town, but that’s because it’s more of a trading area so Hylians and Gorons and others can get there easier than going through the canyon to the town. We did some shopping but we heard a lot of rumors. A new hero appearing, one who couldn’t be the reincarnated one. A hero who did not wield the blade of evil’s bane but a trident, instead of working in service of the princesses, or royalty, or goddess they worked for the people, a blond gender ambiguous Hylian who slew a massive, fearsome beast all to get ingredients for a medicine for a gerudo woman’s sick husband they didn’t even know, a person who helped the descendants of the champions calm all the Divine Beasts soon after their rampages began, a person who is a brother to the strong gorons, a person who had begun to teach others how to fend for themselves, on and on it went, even false or exaggerated tales. They were all about one simple person who served the people for their sake and nothing else. This person was not grand or flashy, they were only recognized since tridents are an uncommon weapon and even more uncommon for hylians outside of the royal family to be blond, two odd, eye catching characteristics and people made the connections from there. Sidon told me it just seemed fitting that the “Hero of the People” would wish to use all his peoples’ fighting styles, a person who was strong with all their power, their best qualities united.
I guess it is fitting. Before being the chosen hero or whatever felt like a burden, but this time, it felt different, it didn’t feel bad, like there’s this cumbersome weight I just can’t carry. I’m being called a hero for things I have done already, not things I’m expected to do, I think that’s the difference. I think Sidon could tell too. He admitted he was a little nervous about this, but if I did react badly, he wanted to be beside me so he could comfort me and not have me over hear this some other place far away and for my thoughts to go dark again. And we had the whole day to be together so we could do something fun to get my mind off it.
We had a lovely walk back. Bossa Nova kept trying to steal some of the ingredients we ended up running part of the way as he chased us. He even tried nibbling on my hair to get my attention. Sidon tried scolding him, but Bossa Nova didn’t care. After gifting a Hearty Radish he calmed down, but Sidon said I shouldn’t spoil him, that he’ll just take advantage of that and eat through all my non-meat supplies sooner or later. But then he just looked at me for a moment, smiled and shook his head before turning back to the trail ahead. When I asked him what that meant he told me he couldn’t find my behavior endearing and that I need to learn how to say ‘no’ sometimes. I guess he is a prince, he has to make decisions for his people, and he’ll likely have to say ‘no’ sometimes, but how can you say no to a cute hungry capybara! Besides I don’t think he would have stopped trying to knock us over till he was fed so I don’t think it could have been THAT bad. Just a treat. He’s a good boy, he needs the love. Sidon then gasped and said this must be why Bossa Nova likes me more now. It was clear he was play acting, playing up the moment but his reaction did get Bossa Nova to charge at him and knock him into the river for hugs. Much of the fruit started floating down river and it took a while to collect it all.
We cooked lunch together, a fusion between Rito and Zora cuisine. I always love cooking with him, well I just like cooking, but especially with him. Food reflects it’s culture and traditions, cooking is literally making something to help the other keep living and making it enjoyable all the while. I don’t think I need food, not anymore at least, but I can still enjoy it, making it and tasting it with others. Eating and cooking with others feels different than on your own, it only makes sense, food reflects people and so more people would surely make it taste better. All this to say I just really enjoyed lunch. And Bossa Nova still ate his meal so giving him his treat was not spoiling him! He didn’t eat his whole thing though, but that’s not the point! He still ate it… I guess it’s because I don’t get hungry I don’t see the point in having scheduled meals. Sidon said that was not the point, the point being Bossa Nova acting bratty to get whatever he wants. But could it be so bad, all he ever wants is food or extra affection.
Sidon asked if I knew how long I can hold my breath for. Much of his kingdom is underwater and he wanted to show more of it to me. Zoras really are made for the water, even the shape of their heads are kind of like arrows so they can effortlessly pierce through it. I know fish need fins to swim, I wonder how fins help Zora swim. They’re just stunning racing past, or at least Sidon is. Even with my complete zora armor set swimming can be a struggle but for him it’s effortless, he can go in circles and make twists and turns so quickly. Light seems much starker underwater, either bright or dark, I notice his glowy parts much more, I still can’t tell if they’re always glowing or if the glow activates when he’s in shade.
His home underwater looks similarish to land with similar plants, but there are also very different ones I don’t even know where to begin describing them. Some are kind of like flat dishes and others more spindly, then there are others that are wrinkly, I’ve never seen plants like those in the rivers before. There are some like stone, Sidon says they’re called coral and are plants oddly enough. Many of these only grow in the domain, but there are similar ones in the ocean. I wondered if any could be used in cooking, as they are plants zoras have never tried and Sidon was rather keen on assisting me if I tried working with them.
His kingdom underwater is so much larger than on the surface. Sidon and his people could so easily be separated from the rest of the world and be just fine. Their most important places like the throne room are on the surface so others can more easily reach them. That is something he’s always had been so appreciative of his ancestors for doing. His people, they’ve always been distant from the rest of Hyrule whether they lived solely underwater or some place out of reach or hidden away, of all times this current era is likely the closest they have been to others even with being separated by a distant canyon still. He doesn’t like this distance, even if it is better than before. After the champions fell and the hylians had no leader, everyone mostly went their own ways and more of a divide was created between everyone, sure there’s trade and the mail service but other than that, nothing, no alliance promises or at least documents stating they were at peace with one another, there’s nothing except for the few individuals who sought out pay from others, that’s why he finds what I’m doing to be so incredible. This legend I’m making just by being myself, becoming something or someone everyone can connect too or want to strive for. A kind of hero he could only have dreamed of. I told him I can’t do anything like uniting everyone, I’ve just lived with them and gotten to know them, he however, someone who knows how to lead others, someone who can understand and relate to others so easily or through his sheer determination, his hunger to know others better, wanting those connections, he could become someone who could lead and unite hyrule. He told me uniting hyrule again was going to be a monumental task, surely one he could not handle on his own, he’d definitely need someone who’s on good terms with everyone, and more importantly a partner by his side, someone he could lean on during the rough days, someone who could emotionally support him and just be by his side, just someone precious to him to keep close.
How tenderly he held my hands and stroked them with his thumbs, and just that way he looked at me. I don’t know what I was feeling but it was so warm, and soft, and like my chest was fluttering. Just… how he wants me, not just for what I can do, he just wants me. He wants me to be there because he just wants to share his life with me, I just happen to get some additional satisfaction since I know I get to help, but even if I couldn’t I KNOW he’d want me to be there with him and it just…
It means so much to me.
Today was just so nice.
After leading me to my room he collapsed on the bed. I don’t know about him, but I know swimming definitely takes a lot of energy and he was already working with little sleep, at least this way I know for certain he’s getting rest. I hope nobody comes here looking for him. For now, I guess I should get some sleep myself.

Chapter 06: From The Beyond
Ah! It is well for the unfortunate to be resigned, but for the guilty there is no peace.
[Mary B. Shelley, Frankenstein]
    Thinking back on it later, the events during Garland Moon were probably what set the hare running toward its demise. Not that any of you could have known that. Not the students who joyfully spend their days in cherished halls where daylight passes through coloured glass; not Byleth with her gift to correct past mistakes with a flick of her wrist and change the course of time; not you with your foresight to see what dangers await in the future and prepare a different path for those you care for to walk safely.
    Thinking back on it later, everything that followed surely ascribed to and served Fate, and not even Sylvain could charm her with his silver tongue and golden wit, for Fate’s lover is Time and she does not look kindly upon those who enslave him.
    Maybe that is why things turned out the way they did for Byleth and you.
    But that future is still far away and every single one of you still believes the goddess has Fate tightly leashed to her side, her benevolence endless and spreading to every corner in Fódlan.
    That is why you don’t think too much about it when one day, Seteth disturbs your seminar, a deep frown settled in his features as you explain how to turn an ambush to your advantage to the students.
    “Apologies for the disturbance, Herald. Lady Rhea asks to see Ashe.”
    The boy gives a pitiful squeal but is up on his feet nonetheless. “Me? Why?”
    “You will see. Please come.” Seteth holds the classroom’s door open.
    You nod, a little worried about the frightened glance Ashe sends your way like he hopes you can actually say no and decline Rhea’s command. An encouraging smile is everything you can give him on his way before the door shuts behind him. Its sound wakes everyone else from their slumber and it takes a few minutes to reclaim order and their attention. It certainly does help that the Blue Lion House isn’t as chaotic as a certain other, not to name any names.
    Said house proves again to be more difficult to teach. Or tame. You didn’t have the courage to ask why they thought it was a good idea to see whose shoe would leave the darkest stain on Claude’s bedroom’s ceiling. Even days after their mischief students kept talking about how they have never seen Seteth this furious.
    “Herald, please,” Hilda cries, tragically draped over the back of her chair, a maiden in bittersweet agony over her loss of free time. “It was all Claude’s fault.”
    “Liars never prosper,” Claude calls from the far back of the room. He’s hunched over his papers, working vigorously on Seteth’s punishment. He ordered them to write hundred times I shall not throw footwear against any ceiling in the monastery. They’ve been at it for about twenty minutes and Claude’s quill hasn’t stopped its furious scratching against parchment at all.
    “I won’t mess with Seteth,” you tell them and lean dangerously far back on your chair to place your feet on the teacher’s desk. “And you deserve it. Or do they not teach you proper manners in your noble homes?”
    “Well, it’s not like anyone taught us not to do it,” Hilda chirps. You throw a glare her way and she quickly dugs her head and continues writing. Quills scratch on paper for about seven seconds before Hilda stops again.
    “Herald,” she says. “What do you think about Lady Catherine’s Thunderbrand?”
    You look up from your book titled Noticeable War Generals. Smile gone from her face, Hilda looks up at you with sharp curiosity. It’s eerily silent now, and a quick glance towards Claude shows he is listening as well.
    Catherine’s Thunderbrand. Its sight is still burned into the back of your closed eyes: Golden ivory forged into a grotesque sword, a blood red Crest Stone in its middle that seemed to pulsate—as if it breathed. As if it was a living thing with a heart. You had simply stared at it in awe and thought What a mesmerising weapon.
    “It’s … fascinating,” you manage. “A Hero’s Relic. There are more than just Thunderbrand, right?”
    “Ten exist,” Claude calls from the back. “Bestowed by the goddess upon ten heroes, they are passed down to their descendants. House Riegan and House Goneril have one in their possession as well.”
    “Then why don’t you use it?” You certainly wouldn’t miss a chance to own and wield a mighty weapon like that.
    “Wield that?”Hilda shudders in disgust. “No thank you. It looks so weird, pulsating and moving like an insect.”
    “And we’re way too inexperienced to use it in a real battle.” Claude puts his quill between his nose and upper lip and tries to hold it there. “They’re locked away anyway and hidden from those who might misuse their power.”
    Claude has a point. Nonetheless, you’d gladly take a look at them. Maybe even hold one … Did the Herald own one as well? A special weapon only forged for the Herald. A slight shudder runs down your spine at the thought of using it in battle.
    Ten minutes later, Claude jumps to his feet. He hurries towards you, slams his parchments on the table and leaves just as fast. “Bye Herald!”
    “No way!” Hilda pales. “How is he so fast?”
    You wonder as well and take a look at his papers. Instead of writing what Seteth has told them, Claude simply left poor drawings of their crime and promised with one sentence he wouldn’t do it again.
    And we of House Riegan never break our promises, reads the last line.
    You groan. Now it’s your turn to think about a good explanation to Seteth’s questions why you haven’t paid more attention.
    Month three passed within the blink of an eye. Garland Moon brought the sweet smell of white roses to Garreg Mach, a tradition much anticipated by the students. Everywhere you went, garlands and gifts made of white roses were given to each other as a sign of friendship or budding love. Some found their way to your desk, though your admirers preferred to stay anonymous whereas Byleth was busy to stow them somewhere—not a day passed without her receiving something or a group of giggling students following her around.
    “I really don’t know what to do with all those flowers,” she told you one day during a tea session, a deep frown on her face. “They wilt. Then I throw them away. It’s a waste.”
    “Your students love it,” you replied but were glad not to be in her place.
    Another good deed Garland Moon brought with it is longer days and shorter nights. Students lounged outside in their summer uniforms after class, enjoying those last warm days before raining season arrived with fierce gusts and heavy pouring, forcing them back inside where they spent their free time inside the library or the dining hall, playing little games to kill time.
    For a change of pace, Byleth and Jeralt decided they’d hold a grilled fish dinner on every last day of each week and most of the invited either didn’t have the heart or the courage to tell them once every week was once every week too much.
    Everything happened too fast after that. Rhea informed the teacher’s faculty and her Knights of Lord Lonato Gaspard’s planned rebellion against the church. With that, the mystery of why Seteth had demanded to speak with Ashe was solved; it also explained why he spent so much time inside the chapel, praying and wondering himself about his adoptive father’s reasoning.
    “There is no question about it,” Rhea says in her cool, demanding voice once every teacher and Knight of Seiros gathered inside the War Room to discuss the matter. “We will send a troop to meet them halfway in Kingdom Territory. They will pay for mocking our goddess.”
    “Allow me to lead the Knights, Lady Rhea,” Catherine says. Even now, you can’t take your eyes off Thunderbrand strapped on her back. “I know Gaspard and what he’s capable of.”
    “We did not forget what you’ve done back when—” Seteth starts. Catherine silences him with one look, leaving no doubt she doesn’t wish to speak of it.
    “And that is exactly why I have to go.”
    Rhea nodded. “So be it. I know I leave this mission in your capable hands.”
    “But why is he leading this rebellion?” you wonder. “I thought the Kingdom is strongly devoted to Seiros’ teachings.”
    “Every flock has its black sheep,” Rhea says, sounding sad. “We will get our answers once we defeat and capture them.”
    “What about the surrounding villages and those who support Gaspard’s rebellion but don’t fight?” Byleth asked. Until now, you haven’t really thought of those not directly involved in it, but she does make a good point.
    Rhea squared her shoulders. “What about them?”
    “They’re not directly involved but might try to get in our way.” Byleth glanced at the strategic map laid out before her. There is a way through the forest for your units to approach Lonato’s stronghold. Surrounding villages are marked with a red pin. They surround the forest in a loose circle, making an intrusion possible, though sending Knights of Seiros out to watch them and stop them could be quite easy—
    “Everyone who supports this foolish rebellion should receive the rightful punishment,” Rhea says, her voice so cold it freezes your thoughts of how to make the villagers stay out of this. Your head snaps up as you stare at her. Byleth raises an eyebrow but remains silent just like everyone else. Something about that makes you shudder.
    “But they’re civilians, right? If we can avoid having them interfere—”
    “By joining Lonato Gaspard’s rebellion they pledge guilty to his cause.” Rhea looks up at you, scorn flashing briefly in her eyes. “I will not have them simply go if it opens the possibility for revenge one day.”
    If you squinted really hard, there was reason behind her words. Still, your stomach turned at the thought of endangering civilians even though it could be prevented. Without any protests, that was the plan for the operation.
    You sat this one out. There was much to prepare for the upcoming Rite of Rebirth, a ceremony when the Church of Seiros and its believers unite to pray for the return of the goddess. Even though you wouldn’t call yourself a believer—many find it strange that you remember the way of war but not the way of the Church as if you lived somewhere without Seiros’ teachings—your presence was of outmost importance as well. Though after you heard how the mission went, you really wished you had joined the Blue Lions fighting against Gaspard instead of sitting around and deciding which ceremonial robes fit better.
    Loud voices drift through the closed door of a classroom, voices you immediately recognise belonging to Dimitri and Byleth.
    “Are you insane?” You flinch back even though a heavy wooden door separates you from what is undoubtedly Dimitri’s wrath. “Those were civilians.”
    A reply is lost, too quiet for you to hear, but whatever Byleth said, it wasn’t the right thing. A second later, Dimitri storms through the doors. The distress in his features stops you from asking what is wrong, a flash of betrayal lurking in his eyes seals your mouth shut. You look after him until he disappears around the corner, only slowly turning towards Byleth. She is propping herself up on the table, learning on her strong arms and staring at the opposite wall, her mouth a grim line—solid rock that stands against the raging waves summoned by Dimitri, her grip on the edge of the table hard enough to turn her knuckles white.
    “Everything okay?” An unnecessary question answered by a simple shake of her head. You lean your hips against the table. “Do you want to talk about it?”
    Byleth is silent. Only slowly, like a tight knot finally coming lose, the tension in her shoulders dissipates and she takes a long, deep breath.
    “Dimitri told me about their mission. How they dealt with Lord Lonato’s revolt.” She finally steps away from the table and kneads the muscles in her shoulders. You imagine they’re hard like a rock. “They faced simple peasants who defended their Lord. Peasants who didn’t even know how to wield a sword without cutting their own thumbs off.”
    “And Rhea made quite clear how to deal with them,” you finish, summoning unwanted imaginations about a gruesome butchery in your mind. Byleth nods.
    “Dimitri asked for my advice,” she continues, her gaze drifting towards the door as if said young man might return like a bad haunting if his name is simply muttered. “If there was anything they could have done different. I told him there wasn’t.” She tears her eyes away from the door and fixes them on you. “I told him that is the way of war.”
    She is right, a part of you insists. Such facts cannot be changed and claiming anything different is foolish, naive. Yet, something stirs, a tiny tiny voice, a feeling, that challenges that thought. A feeling you didn’t expect to be part of you.
    “I don’t know about the details,” you say, shuffling from left to right, “but maybe it was avoidable. Lord Lonato must have known how his subjects felt about it. He didn’t need to involve them.”
    “I think they joined on their own. The students gave them a chance to lay down their weapons.”
    “Still—”
    “Still they decided to follow their foolish Lord,” a voice from the door joins, cold and imperious, chilling you to the bone. Rhea enters the War Room, her expression void of any warmth or kindness. “There is no place for doubt. We must punish any sinner who may inflict harm upon believers, even if those sinners are civilians.”
    “And you think to have the students punish them is right?” Byleth asks, earning a sharp glare from Rhea. She quickly, but somewhat begrudgingly adds, “Your Grace.”
    “I have heard that some students struggled with completing the task,” Rhea acknowledges, doing her best to show how unaffected she is by Byleth’s criticism. “I pray they learnt a valuable lesson about the fate that awaits all who are foolish enough to point their blades towards the heavens.”
    An icy shudder crawls up your spine, cold fingers tighten around your throat to keep you silent—a leash forged of obedience and intimidation, the mistress standing before you. It would be wise to keep your mouth shut, not draw unnecessary attention; keep your head low and nothing can slice it from your shoulders. But the words, burning hot on your tongue, demand freedom.
    “Fearing the Church isn’t the same as respecting it.”
    Something sharp flashes in Rhea’s eyes. “If fear is the only way to control them, then so be it. They are traitors to the holy teachings.”
    “They are people. People with families.”
    “People who would be wise to remember it was the progenitor god who gave them these lands and their life,” Rhea answers, growing impatient. She notices something in the way you look at her, for she takes a moment to collect herself by taking a deep breath. “I do not enjoy seeing those who wronged our holy teachings punished, Herald,” she continues, now much calmer. “But punish them we must before they hurt those who are dear to us.” Upon her last words, her eyes dart to Byleth, looking at her with so much fondness and care, a sting of jealousy in your chest forces you to avert your gaze to the ground. It isn’t the first time you notice Rhea’s palpable interest in Byleth’s wellbeing though no answer comes to mind why it is like that. If Byleth noticed the same, she doesn’t show it.
    After that, the incident is quickly forgotten, making room for the new incident occupying everyone’s mind: an assassination plot on Rhea on the day of the Rite of Rebirth found in Lonato’s possession. You aren’t the only one wondering why he’d carry something like that around where it’s easy to find. Multiple theories go around, one more farfetched than the other. One particular makes sense, its source none other than sharp witted Claude who thinks this plot is a simple distraction for something much bigger.
    “If security is focused on the Rite of Rebirth inside the Goddess’ Tower, pretty much anyone can simply stroll around the monastery and do who knows what,” he told you on the day Byleth and her class set out to discover what important places might become a target. Garreg Mach hides many secrets and treasures. Some of them even you are not allowed to see like relics passed down from archbishop to archbishop, guarded by the elite of the Knights of Seiros, tall and bulky men and women with grim mouths and determined eyes rooting them in place day and night in front of locked doors only Rhea knows what they hide.
    With every passing day, tension hangs in the air like a thick blanket waiting to smother you all. But it isn’t simply the anticipation for whatever the Western Church has planned. It is also the holy ceremony of the Rite of Rebirth, one you’ve practised under the stern eyes of Seteth who doesn’t settle for anything less than perfect. Every word, every step is engraved in your mind.
    On the day of the Rite of Rebirth the sun relentlessly blazes down at the monastery. Your ceremonial robes are heavy and woven from thick jacquard fabric lined with fine golden patterns that depict the Herald’s Crest on the back. You’ve barely finished preparing everything inside the round chamber inside the Goddess’ Tower but perspiration glues your hair to your forehead.
    A whole feast is prepared; food offerings and gifts from the townsfolk and priests served on golden and silver plates on long tables covered with white table clothes. In the middle Seteth prepared a small platform for Rhea to stand and speak in honour of the goddess that she may return to Fódlan and show its people her infinite grace. In short, you’d do anything to join the students who are securing the locations lacking in defence right now instead of standing around and waving at pilgrims. The only joy lies in Flayn’s bright presence and her never ending optimism. She’s a sweet girl and has been looking forward to the ceremony since the beginning of Blue Sea Moon. Looking upon her, it is hard not to catch her excitement and joy when the ceremony finally begins.
    Because of certain circumstances you couldn’t quite follow, the holy relic used for the ceremony, the Chalice of Beginnings, has been missing for a long time. Because of that, a mock chalice was prepared by the cardinals, a handful of high authority men and women who make it no secret they can’t quite decide if they like or dislike you and your position.
    “You must excuse them,” one of the cardinals says after a group of them simply shook their heads at you happily scooping tons of food on a plate. His dark hair falls to his shoulders and unlike the other cardinals, his brown eyes are filled with kindness. “They simply think in old patterns and value their old traditions. You are quite young, Herald. They don’t know how to handle that.”
    “But you do?” you wonder and notice too late how unfriendly that sounds. But he simply laughs.
    “I do frequent with young folk, yes,” he says. “They are my flock and I will do anything to protect them.”
    “That again, Aelfric?” Catherine joins you and slaps his shoulder just when he was about to drink from his cup. You pretend the pastries on your plate are far more interesting than watching him choke on wine. “You’re way too good for them, you know?”
    “Who is ‘them?’” you ask but Catherine just sways her hand as if he wants to get rid of a nasty fly.
    “Unimportant. You did a good job carrying the chalice to the podium.”
    “I did almost trip over these.” You pluck at the heavy robes, already looking forward to getting out of them.
    Catherine laughs but it is short lived. Out of nowhere, a knight hurriedly approaches and leans over to her, muttering, “They are after the tomb of Saint Seiros.”
    Glass shatters as her grip tightens around the fragile stem but without so much as noticing it she storms towards Rhea, fury blazing in her eyes. Something happened. Something far more exciting than playing a believer in front of everyone, so you follow her to listen in more.
    “Those dastards from the Western Church infiltrated the Holy Mausoleum,” she says. Rhea pales. “I will take some knights and go there at once.”
    “Go and be swift, Catherine.” Rhea’s words are barely a puff of breath, those news shaking her but she remains stoic in front of everyone to prevent panic. Her voice drops dangerously low. “Punish those heathens.”
    Catherine’s head dips in a slight bow. “I will, Your Grace.”
    “I want to help too.”
    Both turn around at your voice. Catherine narrows her eyes to sharp slits, but it is Rhea who says, “No. I need you here for the ceremony, Herald.”
    “Please, let me,” you beg. Something inside you demands to follow, demands to see what is inside the Holy Mausoleum that causes so much bloodshed. “I can’t explain, but I need to be there.”
    Rhea presses her lips into a thin line. Before she reopens her mouth to decline your wish, you whirl around and leave the ceremony room, Catherine in hot pursuit. You manage halfway down the hallway before she reaches you and grabs your arm hard.
    “Even though you are the Herald, I won’t allow you to show this disrespect towards Her Grace,” she snarls. “If she tells you to stay, you listen.”
    “I don’t expect you to understand,” you say, trying to free your arm from her bone breaking grip. “But something calls me to this place and I need to follow it.”
    Catherine isn’t pleased but she knows better than do you any real harm. With a crude nod, she allows you to follow. Several knights wait for you and together you make your way through the warm evening air towards the Holy Mausoleum that lies behind the chapel.
    You enter right before chaos erupts. At the end of the hall, its ceiling so high up it’s barely visible in the dark, Byleth stands tall and rises a sword that flashes in a bright red light. A throb goes through your body and brings you to your knees. It feels like an arrow drove into your chest, the stinging pain unlike anything you’ve felt before—no, it’s a pain you haven’t felt since the Crest appeared on your eye for the first time. And then that thrumming energy within you exploded, a sharp crimson that drenched every corner of your right vision, rushing through your veins.
    “Kill them!” an enemy mage commands, fury fuelling him to a last desperate attack. With his remaining companions, they summon a giant fire spell you’ve only read about in books, a combination of spells into a group flame that covers a large area—the pre-stage to a much more fatal blaze that can scorch the land. Blaze or no, the effect watching the giant fire ball curling and sparking until it grows large enough to wipe out anything in its way is the same. Fear paralyses your body. Move, your mind screams, but you can’t. Your muscles have locked up; a high whine of terror fills your head and fizzes in your blood like poison, yet you do not understand where this fear of fire comes from.
    “Take cover!” Catherine roars but it is too late. The blast hits the ground right before you, dispersing your small group of reinforcements like wind scattering leaves in all directions. A loud crack beneath you makes your heart skip a beat, a rumble shakes the hall and before you can fully comprehend what is happening, the ground gives way.
    The last thing you hear is Byleth shouting, not Herald, but your name before you plunge into darkness.
    Wake up.
    You have to wake up.
    This darkness is terrifying, so utterly black and choking, curling around you like a tight fist. Like someone is holding you in their dirty, tainted clutches, smelling of death and horror. Wake up, you tell yourself, more urgent now, your mind struggling to escape from claws digging into your consciousness, their goal unknown but you don’t want to stay here to find out what they are after. What they want to take from you.
    Wake up, this time another voice, the voice, echoing like a sweet bell’s chime, the flicker of light in a darkness so black it hums. You have to wake up.
    Your eyes snap open, the sudden white ceiling hurting like a sudden flash of light. Once you’re used to the brightness, you realise this isn’t a room, this is … this is your consciousness—no walls, no windows. It’s just a space, and yet you can clearly determine borders. Somewhere is an exit you’re free to use, nothing holds you captive. It’s your safe place. Your haven. Which doesn’t explain how you’ve gotten here.
    All you know is it feels safe. It feels like a warm embrace, the feeling of hope, watching a budding flower embraced by soft, fragile hands—asteritrope, your mind provides out of nowhere, the flower always turning its head towards the Blue Star.
    It is like breaking a spell. First, everything is simply white, empty, a second later, you stand in a vast field of asteritropes, an ocean of purple, gently swaying flowers at your feet. Everything smells of sweet innocence, of honey dipped fingers and bittersweet regret. It is a familiar scent, one your body remembers and reacts to with a shudder so strong it rattles deep in your bones; a chill so cold it freezes you on the spot, the slightest movement threatening to shatter you entirely.
    What is this grief, this sadness? Is it your own or have you fallen into a sea of tears wept by someone else? Your chest is heavy with a burden, a pulling towards the unknown that is yet so familiar. It is homesickness towards a place you have never been but long to visit.
    The flowers shaped like little stars stretch beyond what you think are the edges of this place. If this is a dream, you don’t want to wake up anytime soon, relishing in this peace and quiet.
    A peace and quiet that lasts only a moment until you notice it. Not it, him. In the middle of the field, a boy sits, bent over something that demands his complete attention. Dark curls fall against pale skin, his brows pulled tightly together as his fingers work something in his lap. He is wearing a simple white robe, though it is unlike any of the religious wear you've seen on the priests and nuns; it seem ... too old for that. Only after you approach, you see he is folding purple flowers and green steams into a crown.
    “Hello?” you say, only now entertaining the idea you might have died and this is the afterlife, the first point before returning to the goddess’ side. It is a strangely tranquil thought. “Can you hear me?”
    The boy’s head snaps up, his eyes wide as he momentarily forgets his work, and you take a step back, struck by how bright his steel grey eyes are. They roam over you, up and down, back up again, as he slowly raises to his feet.
    “You’re here,” he says, awestruck. “You’re finally here. It is so nice to meet you after all this time.”
    His voice is like a punch to your gut. You recognise it immediately, the voice who pulled you back from the darkness.
    “You—” Nothing makes sense. “Who are you? What are you?”
    “There is nothing to fear,” he says, offering you his hand. The tips of his fingers are purple from handling delicate petals. The crown lies at his bare feet, forgotten. He looks strangely vulnerable.
    You take another step back, worry a steady, hard pulse against your neck. The air catches in your lungs. You feel like the ground is opening beneath your feet. “Are you … the goddess? A god?”
    The boy blinks, then throws his head back and bursts out laughing, the sound like sweet bells chiming in the wind. “You people love to call everything you do not understand god.”
    “Then what are you?” It comes out as a breath, and for a brief second you think it’s fear that seizes your body, but no. You should be afraid and yet instead of frenzy panic there is a calm spreading inside you as if you belong here. You can’t say if it’s the boy’s presence or the familiar scent of wildflowers.
    The boy leans his head to the side, his smile as vibrant as early sunlight casting away leftover shadows from a dark night. “Hmmm … the End, perhaps? Or why not just … a friend?”
    “The end? My end?”
    “No, the end is never simply the end,” he says, shaking his head.
    “Is that supposed to reassure me?”
    “It may be a rebirth,” he continues. “Or the passing into a new era. Into a new dawn.”
    “A new dawn,” you mumble. The realisation makes your knees weak. “Don’t tell me—” You suck in a sharp breath, unable to belief where your thoughts are hurling towards in lightning speed. You kneel onto the soft flowerbed, careful not to crush any flowers. “Why are we here … do you know me by chance?”
    “I … cannot say for sure,” he starts slowly, uncertainty turning his features even younger. “I have been watching you since you awoke four moons ago. On that day, I as well awoke from a deep slumber. But I do not know why it is you that I am bound to.”
    “Bound to?” Your head spins. “What do you mean?”
    “You must have felt it by now, have you not? I am here because of this,” he says, and lifts his hand to point at your right eye. You flinch back as if he smacked you right across your face.
    “So you are him,” you whisper, a shudder ripping through your body. “You’re the first Herald. You are Seiros’ Champion.”
    The boy smiles.

Entry 53: Home Sweet Abusive Home
I unlocked the Conquest version of My Castle at the end of the last chapter. It’s basically the same; there are different building styles, Lilith attacks instead of heals, the shops sell Nohrian weapons instead of Hoshidan ones, etc. I’m going to be ignoring castle stuff this time and instead analyzing classes.
Class Profile - Nohr Prince/Princess
Corrin and Kana’s default class, wields swords and dragon stones. Balanced with good HP and Strength. The class’s first skill, Nobility, boosts EXP gained. The other skill, Dragon Fang, gives a skill stat determined chance to do a special attack that does 1.5 damage. Dragon Fang also has unique animations that have Corrin attacking with dragon arms. Design wise, the black and white stripes are nice but a bit busy. The cape is nice, but the random slits over the princess version’s thighs are dumb.
Class Profile - Hoshido Noble
Nohr Prince/Princess’s promotion in Birthright and an optional promotion in Revelation. Stat wise, it has better Strength, Skill, and Defense than its Nohrian counterpart, as well as the ability to use staves. It’s first ability, Dragon Ward, gives nearby allies a luck based chance to half damage taken. This fits with its more supportive role. On the other hand, its second ability Hoshidan Unity gives a 10% boost to the activation rate of all skills. Design wise, it’s a silver and gold version of Corrin’s normal design with a few details that make it look more Hoshidan. It’s a great design, assuming you ignore the fact that the female version isn’t wearing pants.
Class Profile - Nohr Noble
The Conquest version of Hoshido Noble. Has slightly better Speed, Magic, and Resistance, as well as the ability to use tomes. Its first skill, Draconic Hex, lowers the stats of enemies after combat. The other skill, Nohrian Trust, is really interesting, allowing Corrin to use the battle skills of supporting allies. I love the black coloring with hints of magenta and the tattered cape, but I have to groan at the cleavage and continued lack of pants for female units. Also something I noticed: Nohr Nobles have a shield on their left shoulder, while Hoshidans have a shield on their right shoulder. It’s a nice little detail.
Also, you know how I stole Rinkah and Sakura’s weapons? The damn game gave them back!
Conquest Chapter 7: A Dragon’s Decree
Moron and his Nohrian siblings return to Castle Krakenburg. Garon praises Xander for invading Hoshido. Xander brings up Moron, who Garon apparently can’t see from ten feet away, and Garon is shocked that Moron isn’t dead. Garon yells at Moron for coming home and accuses him of being a spy. Xander insists Moron is loyal and brings up the fight with Ryoma. Iago believes this to be a ruse, which makes sense. He did that shit in Birthright.
Moron asks about the exploding sword. Garon very convincingly pretends to know nothing. Garon uses the fact that Moron is suspicious of the repeated attempts on his life as evidence that Moron is a traitor and orders Xander to execute him. So glad we came back.
Camilla and Elise beg for mercy and Xander refuses to kill his brother. Iago says that makes Xander a traitor, too. Moron says he’ll kill himself to protect Xander. Garon, overjoyed at the idea of suicide, decides to leave it up to Anankos, the dragon god who was mentioned like once in Birthright. Anankos whispers to Garon to spare Moron, if he passes a test. Moron must suppress a rebellion in the ice tribe to prove his loyalty, without any help from his siblings or the Nohrian military. Something about Moron going off alone to enemy territory to prove his loyalty feels oddly familiar...hope this isn’t secretly a ploy to kill Moron again.
Xander says that taking out an entire army singlehandedly is impossible. Moron agrees to the mission. After Moron leaves, Garon monologues about how Moron is going to lose all hope and wish for death. Real glad we chose to side with Nohr, this truly was the right decision.
Xander, hearing Garon say evil shit out loud, does not decide to stop working for Garon. He says he knows what he has to do, but spoiler alert, it isn’t overthrow his evil father.
Moron goes through the woods of the Forlorn, where you fight Leo in Birthright, with only Lilith accompanying him. Faceless show up and attack, surrounding Moron. Felicia shows up and takes one out with a dagger. Moron points out that he had to destroy Felicia’s friends and family without help, but shrugs it off because they aren’t technically at the Ice Village yet.
This battle is actually pretty good, taking on a ton of enemies with only two units. At the start of turn three, Silas and Elise show up to rescue Corrin. At the start of turn four, Elise’s retainers Arthur and Effie join them. Arthur mentions that he’s late because a bird stole his map and Effie’s late because her armor made her sink into the swamp. Elise mentions that Xander planned out this rescue behind Garon’s back.
Arthur
Arthur is Talitu's rude Wind Mage son...wait, wrong Arthur. Arthur is a Monk who...okay, once more time. Arthur is Elise’s unlucky but heroic Fighter retainer. I love Arthur as a character, this boisterous, cheesy, superhero fighting for justice. His design has this massive lantern jaw and he wears a superhero costume with a cape. His personal skill, Misfortune, makes critical hits more likely on both him and his enemies. This is fitting for the running gag of him being supernaturally unlucky, something reflected in gameplay by him having an abysmal luck stat.
Effie
Elise’s other retainer, a Knight. She seems to be a protective warrior. Honestly, I didn’t pick up too much about her personality because I was distracted by her utterly monstrous strength star. Effie is buff. Her personal skill, Puissance, pairs well with this by boosting her damage if she’s far stronger than an enemy. Personally, I’m not too fond of Effie’s design. Her face feels to girly and looks like she’s wearing make-up, which doesn’t match her personality. The big shoulder pads look weird and the boob plate is eye-roll inducing. At least it’s better than her Heroes design, which is atrocious.
After battle, Felicia volunteers to lead us to her village. The camera pans over to reveal Iago was responsible for the faceless attack. Because he’s an evil asshole who I hate.
Also I grabbed Mozu between chapters.
Support: Corrin/Elise
C: Corrin stumbles upon Elise practicing punching in a field. Elise insists she's just picking flowers because she's sweet. Eventually, Elise admits that she's training so she won't be a burden to the army.
B: Corrin trains Elise to grow stronger. Elise struggles to do push-ups.
A: Elise sobs about being pathetic. Corrin insists that war isn't about fighting, it's about having a pure desire for peace. The amount of people Corrin kills contradicts this.
S: Corrin gives Elise flowers to propose to her. I vomit.
Review: Setting aside the incestuous pedophilia that ends this one, not bad. I think Elise works more than Sakura because at least she’s entertaining when complaining about being a burden.
Support: Arthur/Felicia
C: Felicia tells Arthur she's a bad maid because she's incompetent and clumsy. Arthur relates.
B: Arthur explains that the best way to deal with problems is to be carefree. As he walks, he almost slips on a banana peel (despite the army not storing bananas) and is swarmed by mosquitos (which don't exist in this region).
A: Arthur tells a story of a time he tried to save a drowning person, hit his head, and almost drowned. The person he tried to save was helped by someone else. Arthur explains that he and Felicia shouldn't worry about mishaps.
S: Arthur asks Felicia to meet with him so he can propose. They fall in a pit, Setsuna style, and Felicia accidentally freezes Arthur's fingers so he can't get the ring out of his pocket.
Review: Paring up these absolute messes of people is hilarious.
Support: Mozu/Silas
C: Mozu asks Silas if she should just leave the army and go back home (to the corpse filled ruins of her village I guess) because she isn't very strong. Silas volunteers to train her to be stronger.
B: Mozu says Silas shouldn't waste time training her. Silas tells her her "I'm too weak to be good" mindset is holding her back and that her wasting her potential is a sin against her murdered parents. Goddamn.
A: Mozu, believing she has potential, improves. Silas says he wasn't talented as a kid and only became a good knight because he never gave up. Mozu promises to cook for him.
S: Silas proposes so he can have pie every day. Mozu fantasizes about killing people with S-Rank pair up bonuses.
Review: Not bad, but needed a certain spark to be great. Silas telling Mozu that attitude is everything is interesting, but it kinda falls off towards the end.
Support: Effie/Jakob
C: Jakob bakes a cake for Corrin. Effie eats it. Jakob tries to physically stop her but she shrugs off everything he throws at her.
B: Effie works out by lifting water barrels and tells Jakob that she needs to be strong so she can protect her friends, even if it costs her her own life. Jakob says he doesn't want her to die for him because he'd have to spend the rest of his life feeling guilty. Ugh!
A: Effie says that she can't not protect him because they're friends. Jakob says that's fine, just don't die in the process.
S: Jakob bakes a cake with protein powder instead of flour to propose to Effie. Effie says she isn't going to marry him for his baking skills, but for his good heart.
Review: Pretty good. Effie is amusing throughout this Support and the discussion of dying for friends is nice.

FEH - "The outside world...! So vast!" (+10 WIP Sophia mini-showcase and appreciation)
So, with the [Feh Pass] subscription, I've been auto battling as much as I could while doing whatever else and gather [Hero Feathers] to get all the [HM] I had yet to get, and it was absolutely worth it, although I've already spent like 300 out of my 900+ something [Stamina Bottles] in the [Forging Bonds] lmao, I have around 660 now.
But with the obtained [Hero Feathers] I merged up Tailtiu to +6 and...
Tumblr media
Poggers
I'm happy to have finished merging Sophia at long last which makes of her my eleventh fully merged project soon after New Year Eir, her build is pretty much done but I'd be delighted to give her more premium stuff she can use in the future and make more builds, as well as giving her the remaining [Dragonflowers (I)] but I'm so close to fully boost Sonya and then I have to boost OG and Legendary Julia because of the post-[CYL 2021] update. 🥴
But her current build does wonders already, true, she's not impervious to nearly everything as it is, but I can give her some team support and the like, she's still great on her own.
Now, onto appreciation talk which includes describing her a little and explaining why I like her. I did this in one of my previous posts but it's time to review the info we have about her and expand on it. As always, feel free to read on (long read ahead)...
About Sophia
She's a half-dragon, half-human girl with the power of foresight, she's a priestess residing in Arcadia, a village that houses manaketes that survived one of the most vicious wars from past lore (The Scouring) located in the southwestern desertic region (Nabata) in Elibe, the continent on which the sixth and seventh Fire Emblem games take place in, she's a playable [Shaman] in the former and makes a minor appearance as a NPC near the end of the latter. Her class makes of her one of the two playable dark magic users in Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals (the other is the guy you're most likely to get while pulling on red stones in FEH, a.k.a. Raigh), and she gains access to basic staves after promoting to [Druid].
In her support convo with Niime, it's revealed that Sophia's father was human, meaning that her mother was a dragon, but neither's identity is ever known to the player. But despite this, she never transforms into a dragon, most likely because she never had her own stone to contain those powers. Being half-dragon also allows her to live much longer, but not as purebred manaketes/dragons.
She's fully self-aware of her heritage and doesn't let that bother her, she accepts both halves of herself which make of her a whole person.
She's somewhat important around the half of the game's duration as she helps a gravely injured Cecilia to at least tend to her wounds while waiting for Roy's army to rescue them as they were both thrown into a prison under Bern's control (the kingdom invading the other countries during the events of the game).
Sophia displays a shy and gentle personality, showing clear astonishmnet yet in a calm way when witnessing what the outside world is like and what it has to offer (beyond the village she's been living for around a century), this is most evidenced in her support dialogues with Igrene. She even feels similarly when wearing a new set of clothes, such as those of Embla in the World of Zenith, anytime after she joins the Order of Heroes.
«As long as I am with you... I can go anywhere...even a new country...»
― Sophia
She also mentions she was raised to avoid outsiders, and in the same aforementioned support convo, it's mentioned why.
«I understand what he's saying... The Dragons' powers could easily destroy entire countries. If the outsiders found out, they would surely fight over it. I've seen many conflicts like that in my life...»
― Igrene
And it's understandable why she feels that way after being raised by the elder of the village to do as told for decades. But in the end, she wants to work towards a world of peace where both dragons and humans live together without a war ever spreading out, and befriend other people, she's appreciative of other's kindness.
So... why do I like her?
Because she's purple-haired and most of her design has purple and I love purple soooooo much, that's all you need to know. :)
...Kidding kidding, that's not actually it, but it's in part true that I find her aesthetic pleasing, partially due to my passion for this color:
Tumblr media
(Official artwork from FE6)
Her design is rather simple but so charming, clearly evidencing her shyness (see the way she holds her book and her facial expression), and feeling clean without going overboard on details.
Also, I find long, purple hair a rather rare yet dazzling sight, I always look at it in her artwork and remins me why I love her design.
True, her neck in Zaza's take on Sophia in Fire Emblem Heroes bothered me a little, mostly because her neck is a little long as seen above, but not as slim as long as Zaza has drawn her (it's still a decent artwork and the artist has made some really nice pieces later, look at Emmeryn), the style also felt a little off to me. But her Resplendent upgrade made Sophia look more cute and still being the one we know, doning a brand new attire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(❶ Original by Zaza. | ❷ Resplendent by Miwabe Sakura)
But for me, it's pointless to be pretty if there's not a likeable personality behind the character in question, and Sophia has been proven to be really interesting, often a mysterious but shy girl, she's capable of kindness and finding comfort with outsiders like Kiran or Roy, when I see her, I always feel that she's so nice, never feeling bitterness towards any of her allies, just being shy due to how she's grown, but with a desire for friendship and peace pushing her forward, even slowly but surely, she's so lovely. 🥰
What's more, some of her quotes show she has a protective side, determined to stand up to help her allies but specially those she's close with, this eventually includes Kiran themselves.
Her voice in Fire Emblem Heroes is also really soothing, Wendee Lee has made such a delightful work giving new life to Sophia through her voice acting, there sure are differences between her work back in 2017 (Sophia is a launch unit, meaning she's been around ever since the game was live) and the work on the Resplendent in 2020, yet both are pretty consistent and equally pleasant to hear. But if I have to vouch for one or another, I give a point to the Resplendent voice acting, her voice can be heard with a little more depth and calmness to it than the original, which feels more natural.
And she's a dark magic practitioner but that doesn't make her evil at all, she's really pure actually. But I actually find dark magic most appealing out of any kind of weapon I have ever seen, the whole concept is cool, being always creepy and nefarious in nature, often portrayed in hues of black and dark purple.
And like, c'mon, this thing is amazing:
Tumblr media
I wish that [Apocalypse] was her PRF weapon in Fire Emblem Heroes but neither Raigh nor Bramimond who's its OG owner got it and just got random PRFs instead.
Anyway, in short, I adore Sophia and it always makes me happy to turn a seemingly weak unit into a tough to crack cookie, love for favorites sure can take them far.
"And... as a unit?"
I've been trying her mainly against the foes she has advantage with, but I've been also trying her against red/blue units and sometimes she does a nice job holding them at bay, she has low speed even after all this investment but with buffing it's somewhat usable.
Yet I prefer to focus on her strengths, not weaknesses, and she stands as a fairly good magic tank, with the few extras she enjoys as a launch unit and full demote plus Resplendent skin since around the first weeks of the [Feh Pass].
I actually tried her here some time after posting this because I didn't notice the [Limited Hero Battle] for today requires you use FE6 units, so I went with my faves in the game and it was rather easy. 🙂 But it still took a little thinking.
Tumblr media
"Who's the next +10 you have in mind?"
Hmm... actually gonna (at least try to) work on Lilina, another one of my Elibian favorites. I also have her Resplendent upgrade and could revamp her kit. 🤔
But she's currently +3 so her turn might take longer or someone's else may come before, Idk.
And then, hopefully someone I like out of the next potential Resplendent Heroes...!

Infinity
“Well, that concludes our meeting,” Queen Angella clapped her hands together and rose up from her throne, “I only hope our next session will be as efficient as today’s one. We’re making great progress.” Angella’s words were genuine, she was impressed how fast things were moving. All the kingdoms working hand in hand to repair the damage done by Prime’s invasion.
The rest of the Princesses gathered around the war table rose up with her and bowed in respect. Angella saw a few tense faces. Some were still getting used to the fact she came back from the dead. Both Alliance and Horde states shook hands and left, now that Hordak, Weaver and Prime were presumed dead, all the kingdom states previously supported by the Horde economy, usually poorer lands, fell on their knees and reached out to BrightMoon for aid.
All of Etheria united against a common threat, defeated it together and through that realisation the bonds grew stronger. Funny to think a mere thirty years ago, before the Horde, the Princesses couldn’t stand each other, leaping at each other’s throats.
It was amazing how well her and Hordak’s deal worked out.
Sure her temporary death, was a set back, so was the arrival of Horde Prime. Hordak reassured her that the portal had no possibility of working with the lack of advanced materials on the planet. However, the two of them didn’t count on the unpredictable variable that was, Entrapta of Dryl. Or that Angella’s disappearance due to the crisis engaged by Catra, would led her daughter Glimmer to guide Prime directly to the shadow dimension.
Luckily, Hordak and Entrapta managed to bring her back. And with the help of Shadow Weaver they managed to imprison Prime, out of sight. Through dark magic Weaver found out about the deal struck and so inserted herself into the equation, always looking for a seat of power. Hordak of course brought Entrapta into the fold, being the hopeless romantic that he was. He also recommended for Catra to play apart in all of it. He said she was smart, a fast learner, a strategist and deep down, he knew she was a better person than any of them. Angella begrudgingly accepted, but in turn decided to advocate for her own addition, Glimmer. In Angella’s absence, her daughter became a quite capable general. None had objections.
And so there were six.
Angella made her way to her throne room and ordered her throne guards to leave and allow no one in, no matter the clearance level. And she locked the doors behind them. She sat down on her throne, pressing her palm against the chair arm, which scanned and verified that it was her. The floor under Angella opened and the throne descended down.
The angel queen made her way through the dark sub-level corridor. It wasn’t even on the castle schematics for safety and security. Where she was greeted by a disembodied voice from the shadows, “Meeting ran late?”
“Don’t be absurd, I’m only five minutes, twenty-three seconds late... Why are you not waiting in the sub-level conference room with the others?” Angella asked the hovering Shadow Weaver, who simply shrugged.
“Call me paranoid. I wish, simply, to enter with the great Queen Angella, making sure none of you set a trap for me. Remember, I cou-” Weaver was interrupted by Angella.
“We know. No trap. Now, come on.” Angella knew that Shadow Weaver had the ability to undo the entire secrecy of their group. Being the powerful sorceress that she was, she could’ve simply revealed them in the minds of every person on the planet. But working from behind the curtain was what made them successful, so they had to keep a close eye on the witch. Well, she had an eye on every member.
Angella pushed open a pair of doors and revealed the other four members already in their chairs. The war table paralleling the one multiple levels above them, the one Angella was just in. Hordak and Entrapta didn’t even notice them walk in, the two partners simply continued with their theory sharing. Opposite them Glimmer and Catra bowed for Angella’s presence, side eyeing Shadow Weaver as she sat across from Angella on the other end.
“Alright everyone! If I may have your attention!” She didn’t ask as much as she ordered it. All the heads faced her in focus. Angella began, “Thank you, I suppose this is in a way the first true meeting of this... team, I suppose we can call it. You were all chosen to sit here, because you have showcased virtues and qualities befitting of a leader, if necessary... a mastermind. Hordak and Shadow Weaver presumed dead, and the rest viewed as war heroes - the public trusts us. Let us keep it that way. We sit here today, because we are the ones going to forge tomorrow, from behind the stage, for better... or for worse. That’s on us... Hordak.”
She turned her head to the alien and nodded as a sign for him to start his brief, “First order of business and highest priority is that of my brother. And his trial. This council will decide his fate. At the moment Horde Prime is kept on Beast Island under the influence of the island and further imprisonment of the Obtainment Spell, curtesy of Shadow Weaver.”
Weaver smiled under her mask, proud of her magical capabilities, folding her arms across her chest. Entrapta shared the cheerfulness, happy she was allowed to study the properties of the island and ultimately control it.
“I say we leave him there. Sounds to fine to me.” Catra was quick to make her decision known.
“Death. The safer option.” Glimmer stated countering Catra’s solution aggressively. She had no patience for Prime, knowing that Etheria could’ve been another world subjugated by his galactic empire, and she was partly to blame for his arrival. “Just let Adora hack his head off, problem solved.”
“She-Ra isn’t apart of this council.” Angella stated.
“Well, maybe she should be. I mean come on, it’s Adora! Where are you gonna find a better, more pure-hearted, person in the universe? Being good is sort of her whole deal.” Catra agreed with Glimmer’s proposal of bring their girlfriend into the fold.
“Adora is busy enough being the face of Etheria. A face the people can trust. Let’s not give the world a reason to loose that faith... And the girl can’t keep a secret to save her life.” Shadow Weaver dismissed the possibility of that option.
Angella followed on, “And killing Prime might not be the best decision either.”
Hordak returned to his holo-pad, which he wired to the war table. With a swipe of his finger upwards on the screen, the hologram display on the table lit up. A strange image came up, they didn’t know what they were looking at, “It is true. We might need to question him, see if he has any kind of knowledge or insight about these... objects. Since Entrapta and me cannot figure this out.”
Entrapta waved off dismissively at the idea with her hair, “Oh, please, we don’t need his help! We got it covered! He’s an idiot! And we’re a team! He doesn’t have the answers, I bet he couldn’t figure out the precise value of pi if it bit him in the hair!”
“You can figure out what pie is?” Catra arched her brow in confusion.
“What are they... Rune Stones? They look smaller.” Glimmer questioned, looking at the holo-display.
“Possibly of the same origin, that being the First Ones, but they are infinitely more powerful. Any bounds or limitations are yet unknown to us. Whatever these... gems are, they’re more powerful than any weapon I have encountered across my voyages throughout the universe.” Hordak claimed as multiple notes and graphs appeared on the display, most of which didn’t make any sense to the others.
“So what’s the plan?” Glimmer asked.
“The plan is there’s six of us.” Angella stated as she pressed one of her earrings, which lit up, simultaneously a silver briefcase immerged from the underneath Angella’ s seat. The other five exchanged looks between each other. Shadow Weaver and Entrapta seemed more enthusiastic and on board, whereas the girls and Hordak became more worried.
With two clicks the case opened, revealing inside six different coloured stones. Afterwards, none of them quite remembered or understood what happened. But each member proceeded to take a stone, almost as if the stones themselves spoke to each of them, mesmerised, hypnotised them. The gems guided the hands of their future wielders.
Angella reached for the Time Stone.
Hordak took the Reality Stone.
Entrapta received the Space Stone.
Shadow Weaver was given the Mind Stone.
Catra acquired the Power Stone.
Glimmer grasped the Soul Stone.
“Now what?” The magicat asked, firmly holding the ingot of Power.
Angella answered, “We safeguard it. Destroy it, if necessary, but ultimately, for now, let us see what good we may do behind the scenes.”
Hordak pocketed away his stone into one of his compartments in his new suit, “...Then we should have a code in case of emergencies... Since I have been studying the history logs from Horde Prime’s capital, learning about my people’s culture - I feel like I found a word to incapsulate our council. An ancient term, roughly translating to ‘one who is illusive, and enlightened’:
Illuminati.”

Since I am not the best at writing fanfiction. I have decided to attempt to write a backstory summary of the world of Kemono Wars. A crossover dedicated to Transformers Beast Wars Cartoon and Kemono Friends.
This series will take prices and elements from both shows and build them in a way where they mirror each other. This will take pieces from the Nexon game and KF 2 as a way to FIX the issues KF 2 has.
Keep in mind that not everything is set in stone. There will be plot holes that might go over my head and need to fill in later.
With that being said, let’s start at the beginning.
The Cybertronian War
(Millions of Years ago, there was a planet. A planet that had been wrapped up in a war that nearly shook the entire universe. Both factions fought endlessly to gain victory over the other. Billions of lives shattered and died in this conflict. For millennia, they feared that the war would never end or it would result in the death of their kind. But as a last effort to end the conflict, an ancient relic with incredible power was used as the ultimate weapon. The Golden Disk. With its ability to give it’s holder unlimited power, the surviving soldiers were able to stand together and ending the war. The other side had no choice but to surrender. Both sides agreeing, and the battles had stopped.
After the war was over, the rulers of the planet feared that if someone was to use the Golden Disk for selfish needs, the universe would be thrown into chaos. So they took a shard of the disk and sent it out far into space. The Golden Disk would never be complete and able to reach its full power ever again.)
That's a fancy way of saying that the Golden Disk has a different function than in canon. This series was used as the Autobot’s final weapon, a tool to combine the souls of all Autobots, allowing them to win the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. To make sure peace remains the high counsel punched out the middle piece of the golden disk, a clear center part with an ancient cybertronian symbol. It was said to have been the main source of the golden disks power. If one of the hostile intentions were to get the disk's power it could start another intergalactic war, one even bigger than before.
If only the high counsel would know that another species would get a hold of said piece.
The Vok
Now in the original series, the Vok aren't as fleshed out as viewers wished them to be. All we know is that they were aliens of ancient earth that filled the planet with energon and created landmarks. But in this AU, their motivation and objective are going to be fleshed out. Not only for Cybertronians but the Friends as well.
After the chaos that was the Cybertronian war, the Vok swore that they would do anything in their mighty power to prevent another universal war. To do that, they sought to create super soldiers that would act as a negotiator to break up any huge conflicts. And if either side refuses to cease the fight, the soldiers would be forced to take out both factions.
With cybertronians being the main inspiration for their soldiers, the Vok decided to experiment on Cybertron's' main power source, energon, and test that if life could be created from its properties. They decided to start a testing ground on a simple organic planet and would use the animals of the said planet as vessels for the project.
The Creation of Friends
So we know that the Vok were using prehistoric earth as an experimental testing ground. In KW however, they were testing to see if they were capable of making organic cybertronians. This eventually leads to the creation of an extremely mutated and experimented form of energon. the experimented energon showed interesting results with it being able to take many different forms, infect the ground yet have no damage to the environment, and most of all, life could be created from it. Somewhat.
Though it was capable of creating life, it wasn't perfect. The animal subjects gained weapons and such, but they all turned out to be female humanoid creatures. They were shown to be stronger and have abilities that their original forms could use, but they were filled with animal mindsets, rather than of the super soldiers that the Vok aimed for.
Ceruleans
To make matters worse, the experiment resulted in the creation of the Ceruleans, who are practically energon given sentience. Everywhere the animal subjects went, ceruleans were sure to follow.
The Golden Disk and the Kemono Amulet
instead of the golden disk talking about the history of mankind. It instead had a big connection with the Kemono Amulet from the Nexon game.
The creation of Japari Park
The Sandstar was first developt in prehistoric earth but eventually was surfaced on a few islands. When mankind found out about this, they made Japari Park. The Vok decided to watch and see if their experiments would respond to humans. Friends were capable of fending off the Ceruleans. Leading to the events of the Nexon game.
Towa and the Cerulean Queen
Okay, so you want me to tell you what KW will be like for the Cerulean queen?
So we know that in Kemono Wars the Vok makes Ceruleans control the Friend population. But the Ceruleans themselves have no real knowledge of the Vok. All except for one, the Queen.
When she was created she was given the most intelligence compared to other Ceruleans, who are usually driven by instinct rather than knowledge.
The Queen was disgusted by the Vok using her kind as disposable income. She wanted to get rid of them. But how...?
Turns out there was a Friend who has the power of Kemo Harmony. A move that can unite all Friends to fight for the same cause. If she were to acquire that, she could not only unite all Ceruleans together but destroy the Vok as well.
So she made a Cerulean to steal the spark of Kemo Harmony and bring it to her. Following the events of the Nexon game.
But unfortunately, that plan failed. Due to Towa and the main heroes from the Nexon game, they defeated the Queen and the power of the spark resulted in the creation of Cerval.
Cerval
I might turn KF2 Serval into Cerval.
The 2nd defeat of the queen
The Queen also knew of the Vok’s desire to create a powerful leader to lead the army in the process. Someone that would make all animals now before them. They referred to it as “the subject “.
When the Queen returned she had the idea to create a Cerulean that would defeat the subject. So she kidnapped a little boy that went by the name Kyururu and proceeded to make a Cerulean clone out of him.
But once again her plan was soiled by Serval, Cerval, Caracal, Mirai, and Towa.
Kyururu was saved but his remains still left enough for a clone to be born at a very slow pace.
The banishment of humans from Japari Park
But eventually, the Ceruleans forced mankind off the island. All that remained was Mirai's hat with a single strand of hair. The Vok collected it and began to think of a brand new experiment. Could a human be created with Sandstar?
The jumpstart option
But that's not the most disturbing part. In the finale of Beast Wars season 1, the Vok decide to wipe out life in the park. primal says that they will kill all the innocent Friends. But the Vok are like, "What does it matter? Countless of them have died over and over and over. And they are not even aware of it. As long as one piece of a Friend remains intact, then we will kill them over and over and over. And they will never know."
So I have one centered around the Vok and Ezo Red Fox. We all know that the Vok has been experimenting on the Friends for years, but how did they manage to make Japari Park forget about Humanity. A procedure I like to call, Jumpstart. The Procedure is that they use the moon to wipe out all Friends in Japari Park and after confirming the remains they cause an eruption that brings all Friends to life but erases the memories.
However some Friends have been able to survive the Jumpstart but are unable to explain their situation to others out of fear that no one will believe them, or whatever wiped out them park before will hunt them down.
In the mobile game, Silver Fox has deep knowledge of the Ceruleans, the amulet, Oinari sama, and more. Due to them being close to one another, Ezo knew a lot of what Silver knew. But Ezo was able to survive the Jumpstart by hiding in a hole with a rock, but the silver fox wasn’t so lucky.
From that day onward she forced herself to keep all the secrets that Silver Fox told her in a quiet place. Even when she met with Silver Fox again, she could never tell her what she used to know. For her Friend protection.
In other words, Ezo Red Fox is aware of humans, the threat of ceruleans, and the danger that looms over Japari Park.
She knows when a Friend is revived and tries to hide her misery with laziness. Not to mention her longing for her friend Nina, who is still someone she remembers.
She could tell the Maximals what she knows, but she would need a hidden location to keep herself from the eye of the Vok.
But I also believe that Tsuchinoko is also a Friend that survived the Jumpstart. Hence the reason why she hides all the time. That and her knowledge of humans. She has been hiding for a while so she didn’t first realize that Kaban was human.
So in reality, Friends are nothing more than test subjects. Not even death can set them free. The Vok finds them, gives them sandstar, and the process repeats over and over.
The main story
So allow me to tell you about Kemono Wars.
Our story starts where many do at the beginning. During the fight between the Maximals and Predacons ships which resulted in both vessels falling down to the planet surface. With the Maximals launching out the protoform stasis pods.
But here is where things go different. Because in actuality, both ships crash in Japari Park. On that night we see Serval playing in the night fields of the Savanna. She lives a simple, calm life in the park. But a part of her wants to do more. Explore more. Discover more. Prove that she was more than a goof. But most of all, she wants a friend. One who will stay by her side through thick in thin. Deal with her mishaps. Laugh at her jokes. And except her for who she is. But then Serval sees two shooting stars (who are actually the Maximals and Predacons ships). Serval remembers hearing this old tradition from Hippo, that if you make a wish on a falling star, it will come true. Serval wishes for a friend and for the chance to explore the park. But then she sees the shooting stars crash land into the park. Their collision is so strong, that it causes an earthquake. And that causes the volcano to erupt and Sandstar falls throughout the entire park. As well as creating a certain Friend that will change the park forever. The next morning, Predacons awake to see that the world has energon, the fuel of the Cybertronians. However there is too much raw energon, meaning if they go out without protection, they risk energon build up and could shut down. Megatron decides that they will create alt modes based on the planets local creatures. The Maximals get the same idea as well, and both factions send out scanners to scan for local creatures. But unknowingly the scanners do pick up on bugs and dinosaur bones. But when a Gorilla Friend is scanned by it, she gets an odd feeling that she passes as hunger. The scanners pick up only animal DNA, not the Friend part. (Basically, if the scanner picked up a dog Friend, the Beast Mode would be a dog.) After getting their Beast modes, the Maximals notice that they are outnumbered by the Predacons due to launching the stasis pods. Back at the Predacons, Dinobot is enraged that Megatron stole the Golden Disk and ending up on the wrong Earth. Dinobot challenges Megatron to lead the Predacons, but he is taken out by Scorpinok. Megatron orders the rest of the Predacons to find the Maximals and destroy them. Meanwhile, Serval is sleeping on a tree branch, due to herself being nocturnal. All is quiet until she hears the sound of footsteps in the tall grass of the Savanna. It was a Friend. Serval chases her in a game of Hunter and prey. The Friend, however, is terrified by being chased and flees. But Serval puns her to the group in a leap. The girl pleads in fear that Serval does not eat her. Serval says she won't. After apologizing, Serval introduces herself to the new visitor of Japari Park. Serval sees that the girl is an unknown Friend, one that she's never seen before. The girl says that she doesn't know who she is or how she got her. All she remembers is waking up in the Savanna fields. Serval says that the girl should go to the Japari library to find out what kind of animal she is. Serval agrees to take the girl part of the way as a guide to the Savanna. Serval gives the girl the name Kaban (bag) due to her backpack.
Back with the Maximals, Rattrap complains about their circumstances while Optimus Primal tries to stay motivated about the situation. Cheetor then sees a blur of yellow and black dashing through the Savanna. The Maximals assumes that the blur was a cheetah and decides to chase after it as a show-off. Optimus tries to get him back but Rhinox says that due to the energon fields, communications are not working.
Cheetor runs towards the Cheetahs and tries to talk with them, but upon closer inspection, they were not what they seemed at first glance. They were girls dressed as cheetahs and they run off in fear from Cheetor. Cheetor chases after.
Meanwhile back with Kaban and Serval, they are walking through the Savanna fields. Everything is going well until they see two Cheetah Friends fleeing from something. But before they can see what it is, Cheetor accidentally leaps on Kaban, pinning the girl to the ground. Kaban pleads that Cheetor does not eat her. Cheetor says that he won't. Cheetor then climbs off Kaban, just as Serval runs to see if Kaban is okay. The Maximal then sees Serval's second pair of ears and her tail, meanwhile, Serval is in awe at seeing a Friend she's never seen before. Cheetor is confused so Serval tells him about being in Japari Park. Cheetor says he's not from here, and wonders why these little girls are all alone in the Savanna and why is Serval dressed like that. Serval explains that she and Kaban we're heading to the Japari Library to find out what kind of Friend Kaban is. Cheetor is even more confused, he can tell that Kaban is a human, like the ones mentioned in the Great War. Serval says that Cheetor can come with them and Cheetor agrees, completely forgetting about the rest of the Maximals.
After walking through the Savanna for awhile, Kaban sees a strange blue creature with one eye. Serval shouts that that thing is a Cerulean and is dangerous. Kaban tries to run away but accidentally trips as the Cerulean is almost upon her. Cheetor is about to Maximize but Serval uses her claw to attack the stone on its back, defeating the Cerulean. Serval says that Ceruleans are dangerous and they are around the park quite often. Cheetor is impressed by Serval's ability to fight. Kaban, however, feels like she's a very useless creature. Both Serval and Cheetor reassure her that she is not useless and weak.
They sit under tree shade to take a short break before heading to a water hole to get a drink. Serval says that both Kaban and Cheetor should be careful around Ceruleans, Serval says that attacking the stone on its back is the best way to get rid of it. Cheetor thinks that he should inform Optimus about the Ceruleans. Suddenly Cheetor realizes that he completely forgot about Optimus and the rest of the Maximals. Serval says that first they should go and get a drink at the water hole first.
After walking around for a little bit more, the trio arrives at the water hole. They get a quick drink and feel refreshed. Serval realizes that there are surprisingly no other Friends here. Suddenly something emerges from under the water and Kaban screams that it doesn't eat her. Cheetor is about to Maximize when it turns out to was another Friend, this one was a hippo. Hippo is introduced to both Kaban and Cheetor, with Serval saying that no one knows what animal Kaban is. Cheetor is tempted to say what Kaban really is, but he wants them to find out on their own. Serval asks why there are no other friends at the water hole today. Hippo says that there were many friends here earlier but then a giant bug arrived and started terrorizing the other Friends. Serval says she never thought Hippo to be the type to be scared of insects. But Hippo reassures her that the big was huge and started firing its stinger towards the following friends. Hippo was able to hide under the water as the giant bug took a drink of the water. She thought at first Kaban was the bug.
But then suddenly they hear a buzzing sound and look up to see a giant wasp hovering over the water hole. Hippo runs out of the water in a panic, while Cheetor says that it's just a giant bug. Hippo says that saying that the wasp before them was the one that attacked her earlier. Kaban begs it not to eat her and Serval is confused. Cheetor realizes that the bug is actually a Predacon. Cheetor finally Maximizes and transforms into his robot mode. He begins to attack the wasp who quickly transforms into the Predacon waspinator. Hippo flees the area while Kaban and Serval are both confused and scared, though, of Serval's end, she's more amazed. Cheetor tries to get the girls to safety and squash Waspinator, but the battle keeps following them.
The Maximals get a transmission of Cheetor's fight and go after him for backup. Eventually, Cheetor, Kaban, and Serval end up in a ditch. Cheeto's weapon is jammed. The rest of the Maximals arrive and Optimus tells Cheetor to get the young ones out of there. Kaban is even more confused at this point. The Maximals are about to take out waspinator when a dark sinister voice catches everyone's attention. It was Megatron, as well as the rest of the Predacons. Megatron locks eyes with Kaban.
Optimus pleads that there is no need for conflict for there has been peace between the Maximals and Predacons for years. Megatron says that this whole time they have never given up on their plans of universal conquest. Serval doesn't like Megatron and thinks he's a bully. Kaban at this point is terrified as she looks at Megatron and can tell he is not a nice person. Megatron says that the Predacons have been waiting for the moment to strike. cheetor gets his weapon unjammed as shoots Megatron. The fire gauntlet has been casted and the war has begun.
All the Maximals and Predacons transform into robot mode. Serval and Kaban feel so small compared to them all. Kaban doesn't even know what's happening, who are these guys, why are they fighting, and what do they want. Megatron orders that the Predacons obliterate the Maximals.
Lasers and missiles are shot from both sides. Kaban and Serval are still trapped in the middle with Cheetor and in danger of getting hurt. Optimus orders rattrap give him cover so he can save Cheetor and the girls. Rattrap stubbornly refuses and Cheetor gets his leg stuck under a rock, trapping him. Optimus has to go and save them. Serval doesn't know what to do and tries to push the rock off of Cheetor's leg, but then Kaban remembers Serval's attack on that Cerulean. Kaban says that if Serval claws at the area just above Cheetor's leg, they may be able to break the stone and set Cheetor free. Serval claws the stone and breaks it, and Cheetor can get back up. Optimus gets down in the ditch and holds his hand out for Kaban and Serval to grab. Kaban secretly whispers that Optimus doesn't eat her. Optimus picks up Kaban and says that he won't. Serval is in Cheetor's arms. It's at this moment Megatron finally locks eyes with Kaban and orders that his Predacons don't let the Maximals escape and get that human child. But as the Maximals flea, the energon starts to build up around them, forcing everyone back into Beast mode. Serval feels a great surge of Sandstar. The Maximals escaped with both Kaban and Serval.
The group is then walking, with Serval and Kaban placed on Cheetor. Optimus scolds rattrap for his lazy behavior and says that he is the Commanding officer that has orders that need to be followed. Rattrap failed in giving cover and almost got the young girls hurt. Rattrap shrugs it off saying that they got out alive. Optimus says they did but they were injured. That it will take time for their internal repairs to be completed.
Optimus turns to Kaban and Serval and apologizes for frightening them. Serval says that it was okay and that if Kaban didn't come up with the idea to free Cheetor's leg, things could've turned much worse. Cheetor thanks Kaban for her help. Kaban blushes.
Rhinox asks what Serval and Kaban are doing out here. Serval says that the Savanna is her territory and she was helping Kaban get to the Japari Library before Cheetor arrived. Rattrap asks why they want to go to a dusty library. Serval says that they want to find out what kind of animal Kaban is. For a second the Maximals are confused. Rhinox says that Kaban is a human. Serval asks what's a Hooman. Rattrap says that she should look in the mirror. Serval says Kaban is not a Serval.
Rattrap says that Serval should take that silly eat headband off. Serval is confused but then Rattrap tugs on Serval's ear to try and take the ears off. But he finds out that they are not coming off. Rhinox says he can look into it when they get back to the Axalon. Which reminds Optimus on where Kaban's home is. Kaban says she doesn't know her territory. That is part of the reason why they want to find out who they are. Optimus decides that if Kaban has nowhere else to stay, they might as well let her stay at the Axalon. Rattrap complains that they are not babysitting.
But then as they are about to cross a bridge to get to the base, there is a velociraptor in the way. It is Dinobot and he orders that Optimus duels him for the leadership of the Maximals. Optimus tries to make peace, but Dinobot says that he will not move unless Optimus accepts his challenge or hand over the girl with the hat. Kaban is terrified, what would Dinobot want with her. Optimus asks the same thing. Dinobot says that an associate of his has asked for the capture of the girl and will take what once belonged to them and- Dinobot is cut off by a female voice shouting that she just wants the hat. Another female voice says that Raccoon shouldn't interrupt Dinobot's honor speeches, as it gets him angry. Rattrap asks who is back there and one of the voice freaks out about being discovered. From behind a rock is Fennec and Raccoon and they are the associates of Dinobot. Raccoon says that Kaban is a thief and a danger to the park.
Optimus looks at Kaban and can see that the scared girl doesn't want to go with Dinobot, so Optimus accepts the challenge. They fight on the bridge with both sides cheering. Raccoon is a cheerleader at this point. But Optimus almost slips but Dinobot saves him, saying that if he won that way, it would be a betrayal of his honor. Fennec comments that Dinobot sure loves his honor. They continue battling.
But unknown to them the Predacons are watching the fight and decide to attack. Serval's ear twitches to see the Predacons are attacking the bridge. Optimus and Dinobot are about to fall off and facing energon build up when Kaban gets an idea while looking at Rattrap's tail. Before Optimus and Dinobot fall, Kaban and Serval grab Rattrap's tail and they quickly grab the duo. Raccoon and Fennec help as well. Before the bridge collapses all Maximals and Friends crossover. But one of the missiles hit a mountain, exposing a lot of Energon. Or by how the Friends called it, Sandstar.
The Predacons go after the energon and the Maximals team up with Dinobot to get there first. Serval is excited to help but Optimus tells the Friends that they need to stay behind and be safe.
But just as the Maximals leave, Raccoon chases after them, saying that she won't let that Megatron jerk take away her home. Kaban, Serval, and Fennec follow after.
Surprisingly the Friends beat them to the top of the mountain but not too long when the Predacons And Maximals fight. The battle is in beast mode since the Energon/Sunstar could shut them down. Suddenly Serval smells something and sees that all this noise and lights might catch someone's attention. And it did as a giant Cerulean shows up and starts to eat the Energon. Megatron tries to stop it but it flicks him away, while everyone else is trying to fight it. Serval, Raccoon, and Fennec run out and try to fight it. Kaban sees the stone on its back, exposing the weak spot, but no one can get it as the Cerulean keeps eating, till Kaban throws a paper airplane to distract it. Serval takes the Cerulean out. But Megatron tries to take out the Maximals with a missile but Dinobot catches it. But it hits the Sandstar/Energon and before it explodes everyone leaves except Megatron. After they are safe, Optimus is disappointed that the Friends went along but thankful that they risk their lives to save them. The Beast Wars have begun.

Firelight Tales of Exandria, Ch.11 - “Dungeons and Dragons”
Thank you all for coming, and let us tell some stories...
“Our party had completed their mission and had filed their claim on the bounty at the Freeman’s Lodge. Unfortunately, several other adventuring parties had done the same, and, in order to sort everything out and get to the bottom of the matter, the Westruun Shields launched a series of investigations into each individual claim. This also meant, that the party had become “persons of interest” in the investigation, and so were “invited” to stay at the Garrison barracks for a period of five days while the voracity of their claim was being investigated. This did not sit well with a few members of the party, Song especially, who seemed particularly averse to getting involved with any sort of law enforcement or being under scrutiny from authority figures.
“As such, Song dismissed himself, saying he would meet up with the rest of the group soon, and, despite the protests and reassurances of the others, he said a tentative goodbye and departed alone into the night. This reminds the rest of the party that, despite getting along so well and having weathered dire tribulations in such a short time, they are all very much relative strangers to one another. It is here we rejoin our heroes, as Song bids them, a hopefully brief, “fare-thee-well.”
Cezika, begrudgingly, makes a point that the group should leave for the Garrison. Shadow asks if the Margrave’s word can be trusted, to which Cezika says that she doesn’t make it a habit of trusting politicians in general.
With Song having made himself scarce, the rest of the party make their way to the Westruun Garrison, but not before Cezika buys a couple bottles of "not good” wine from the Sloppy Satyr (having finally asked the owner/manager his name, Aeden Brors).
Upon reaching the sentries posted at the Garrison, a clerk is summoned to process the group. The clerk, one Sergeant Jenkins, asks each of the party their name, occupation, and place of origin.
Cezika: Cezika, “tourist”/dilettante, Ank’harel
Nakiya: Nakiya, mercenary, Cliffkeep Mountains
Leaf: Leaf, healer (?), *did not list point of origin*
Ladryssa: Ladryssa, hunter, “the woods near the mountain city with the white stones” / rural Whitestone
Shadow: Shadow of the Moon, “mehrsinaree”, Syngorn
When asked about the absence of “Storyweaver”, Cezika says they were “eaten by a bear”. She says they left his name on the claim as “penance for the dead”.
The group is then taken to a guard station and each receives an arcane mark that will allow the Shields to keep track of the party’s whereabouts as part of the investigation. They are then asked to surrender their weapons while lodging at the barracks, and are in turn given a claim ticket for their arms if they choose to leave each day.
Jenkins explains that the party will be lodged for five days, and they are to remain within the Garrison premises from dusk until after dawn each day, and may be called to provide testimony to the official inquiry council. When pressed as to why they are to be confined to quarters and tracked, the clerk explains that claimants are being guarded against foul play and tampering by other parties, making specific mention of the difference between the conduct of Westruun Shields and the freemen and mercenaries they are playing host to.
Though the party has been given two barracks units, they choose to pass a wary night sharing one unit, with Shadow and Nakiya keeping a mistrustful watch.
For the first time, the party witnesses Shadow perform some type of short ritual with a pendant of black volcanic glass/stone they wear. It briefly glints with an internal flash of power, but then falls limp once more.
Our haggard heroes are woken before dawn by reveille, and the sound of the Westruun Shields’ morning exercises. In spite of the disturbance, they finish their rest before the smells of breakfast rouse them.
++PARTY LEVEL UP – LVL. 4++
Before heading out to morning chow, a courier, Redshirt McGillicuddy #1, gives Leaf and Ladryssa a summons to the Margrave’s Manor, to the court of inquiry, later that morning. Cezika says they are all being called separately that the group’s story lines up. They all agree to omit Ladryssa’s past with the hag and that “Storyweaver” was eaten by a bear after the hag was slain.
Nakiya is delighted to discover that she can still have eggs under her new “diet”. Meanwhile, Shadow gives the cook the warm and fuzzies by asking for seconds and then thirds.
The time of Leaf’s hearing comes, and they are escorted to the judicial chamber of the Margrave’s Manor. The rest of the party finish breakfast and wait by the guarded passageway for Leaf to be done.
After Leaf returns from their inquiry, a soldier approaches them, the brother of one of the injured lumberjacks Leaf saved. The soldier overheard Leaf’s concern about the Green Men, and offers to call in a favor with the floor warden of the Garrison Dungeon to allow the firbolg to visit them briefly.
Leaf takes Cezika with them, and the two are escorted through a few checkpoints and under one of the Garrison towers, into the dungeon. The warden leads them to a cell with two wounded Green Men and gives Leaf and Cezika five minutes to speak.
One of the Green Men is well enough to speak, but still severely injured. Leaf apologizes for their predicament, tells them of their efforts to clear their names, and expresses grief over their friend’s death and thanks them for his sacrifice. The druid is distraught, but thanks Leaf for everything they have done for them and asks Leaf to plant the dead Green Man’s staff to memorialize him.
As the warden signals for their time to be up, Leaf casts a healing word to ease the pain of the Green Men. The warden barks a warning as the spell is cast.
As Leaf and Cezika turn to leave, they hear a muffled whimper down from the end of the dungeon. Cezika tries to usher Leaf out, but the firbolg will not be deterred. In the darkest corner of the dungeon, Leaf finds Buddy, bound and muzzled amidst a cell of long-deceased prisoners. The irate, menacing floor warden threatens to throw both of them in with the gnoll unless they immediately leave.
The two meet back up with the rest of the party and lead Leaf out into the square, under the comfort of a tree. Cezika explains what happened. The party has a range of reactions: Ladryssa and Cezika try to comfort Leaf, while Nakiya walks off, looking for something to hit and not wanting to be near people.
Cezika: “The way they are being treated downstairs... They definitely think that Buddy and/or the Green Men are responsible for this.”
Leaf: “But I told them they were not.”
Cezika: “I know, aile, I know.”
Shadow: “Cezika, I think I know what you mean now; that certain people cannot be trusted.”
Cezika: “I wish I could say this was the first time I have seen things like this happen, but I would be a liar.”
The party simmers in despair and impotent rage, but they resolve to make things right. A little old lady peddles fruit nearby, which puts the group on edge, since they no longer trust little old ladies.
Cezika asks Shadow to stay with Leaf for a moment and excuses herself down an alleyway. When she returns (in a fouler mood), she is followed by a broad, looming, blue-scaled dragonborn. Shadow and Ladryssa inspect him within his personal space, as the dragonborn follows each with a different eye.
The dragonborn introduces himself as Cezika’s cousin, Ghurvoon. Leaf, Shadow, and Ladryssa are introduced, but Ghurvoon asks where the others are. The dragonborn, with a broad smile, offers to buy lilies for Shadow, which perplexes the group. Ignoring their concerns, Ghurvoon calls a nearby flower girl over, grilling her about appropriate flowers for new friends.
Ghurvoon: *sends obvious facial cues drawing attention to the flower girl*
Cezika, tired of his shit: “This is why I don’t send you letters.”
Ghurvoon: “You really learn nothing I try to teach you.”
Cezika: “I don’t pay attention to half the shit you try to teach me.”
Ghurvoon: “Well, if you did, you may not be in *this* situation.”
Cezika: *mumbles in Marqueesian* “Yell at me later. Let’s just-- 12 dasies, I think? I don’t even care anymore.”
Shadow: “I do no longer want flowers.”
As Shadow looks around to see if the guards are taking notice of them, and wary of any move the Dragonborn makes to give them flowers, Ghurvoon continues to press the flower girl.
Flower girl: “It doesn’t really sound like they want flowers, now does it?”
Ghurvoon: “Perhaps not. Perhaps, a Song or two?”
Song, disguised as the flower girl: *sweating across dimensions and astral projecting into space from anxiety* “.......ah....I...well there are places where they could go grab that, not here, as you can see, I sell flowers--”
Ghurvoon suggests to Cezika that her whole party be present for what needs to be said. Shadow points out that Ladryssa will be summoned to the inquiry soon, so Cezika suggests they all meet up at the Satyr before dark to talk.
Ghurvoon draws attention to the flower girl once more, and they start to notice she looks similar to someone they just said goodbye to, as the dragonborn disappears into the crowd. The group finally recognizes Song, and Cezika catches him up on the day’s events.
Cezika asks if Song could find where Nakiya went, and he asks her to take care, before beetling off once more.
The temple bell rings ten tolls, and guards escort Ladryssa to the doors of the Chamber of Judgement.

Title: A Visit Summary: Mysterion drops in to pay Leopold Stotch a visit. Rating: G Ships: N/A Other: Contains implied/mentioned child abuse. Set in a superhero AU
You can also read this one a03
~~~~~~
He would have rather slipped through the window and snuck up on him. It would have been like old times. Leo probably would have gotten a laugh out of it. Unfortunately, Doctor Timothy had insisted Mysterion enter the mansion properly through the front door as a show of trust.
The butler did not seemed all that surprised at the caped vigilante standing in the doorway. Mysterion didn't even need to flash his Freedom Pal's badge for the man to step aside and usher him in.
"The Master is in his study. Would you like me to lead you there, or would you prefer to sulk through the shadows there yourself?" The butler asked in a less than joking tone. Mysterion didn't answer, instead purposefully walking past into a ray of sunlight cast by a near by window.
The butler must have been one of Leo's old hires. Mysterion wouldn't have been too surprised if the butler hadn't been on the receiving end of one of his attacks back in the day. Most of Leo's personal staff use to members of the Chaos organisation that Leo quickly rebranded and name changed to keep them out of jail.
The butler shut the door and wandered off, leaving Mysterion to his own devices.
In the past, when Mysterion snuck into the mansion, he had to keep close to the walls and duck in and out of doorways to avoid being detected. He would use his unworldly powers to slip from shadow to shadow and distract servants and guards. Now, however, he marched up the large set of stairs and down the hall as if he were a member of the household.
Finally, Mysterion came to a large door. He reached up and rapped his knuckles against the hard wood three times in set rhythm, two quick knocks, a pause, then the final knock.
The over-excited sound of footsteps hurried to the door before it swung inwards.
Leopold Stotch looked at Mysterion with a wide, almost goofy-looking, grin. Green and red paint smeared across his cheek and a streak of navy blue across his forehead with a whole rainbow of oil paint on his artist's smock. His eyes even seemed to sparkle with joy at seeing the hero.
It was hard to imagine this baby-faced man was ever one of the most feared and wanted men in all the United States less than two years ago.
Leo jumped back. "Mysterion, come in, come in! It's so good to see you, buddy! Do you want some tea? One of my staff just brought some, and it's got extra honey and lemon."
"No, but thank you," Mysterion shook his head as he entered the study.  He glanced around. It had been a year and a half now since he, Tupperwear, and Toolshed had come in and removed all the machines and weapons and monitors. Now the walls were lined with stacks of canvas and shelves with jars of paint brushes, chalks, crayons, and all other assortments of art supplies. A single TV was affixed to a wall in the corner with the weather channel playing.
Leo grabbed hold of Mysterion's arm. The hero let himself be tugged along towards an easel. The before mentioned tea sat steaming on a small table next to it.
"You have to see my latest painting." Leo took the canvas from the easel and held it in front of him. Pride beamed from his face. The piece in Leo's hand was a mess of colors and different textures, greens and blues and whites, and Mysterion couldn't for the life of him tell what it was suppose to be or if that was the point.
Mysterion frowned. He didn't grow up in a house hold that really appreciated the finer things, modern art being one of them. The closest thing he could recall print of Jesus in a fancy frame his mother had gotten from some free store or another.
"Its...nice." Mysterion commented. "I like that...green diamond pattern."
Leo laughed. "Ok, you just gotta see it with the others, silly!" He ran past Mysterion and began to pick out some other canvases. As he set them next to each other on the floor, a picture began to appear before Mysterion's very eyes: an emerald dragon nestled among the clouds over looking a castle and forest.
Mysterion whistled, impressed. "You painted all this?"
"Yup!" Leo grinned. "Took a while to figure out what parts to put where, but I did it!" He stepped closer to Mysterion. "I'm donating it to a children's hospital next week. Think the kids will like it? Or is the dragon too scary?"
"They'll love it," Mysterion replied softly.
The two stood in silence. Mysterion gazed at the paintings, trying to take in the smaller details Leo had hidden. So far he found a blue birds nest in the trees and a little family walking along a path towards the castle.  As he gazed upon the blue-grey stone of the castle, Mysterion noticed a figure in the tower window. Careful not to disturb the paintings, he walked around to get a better look.
"Is that...?"
"Yup." Leo joined him and crouched. "It's Charlotte. I saw her on the news recently." He reached out and gently brushed his fingers over the woman in the window with a heavy sigh.
Charlotte had been his fiance, until he was finally arrested for his villainous crimes. At first, she had stayed with him, proclaiming Leo couldn't be Professor Chaos, that he was being framed, but soon the constant media attention and rumors finally drove her away. The last Mysterion had heard of her was from an interview she gave saying that she hoped Leo got the help he needed.
Leo fell back on his heels. "Hey, Mysterion, can I, um, ask you a question?"
"Of course," Mysterion replied.
Leo rested his head on his knees, not looking up at the hero. "Do...do you think it'll ever be enough? Will I finally stop feeling guilty for all I've done one day or is this," he paused to gesture to the paintings, "all for nothing?"
Mysterion pursed his lips before going down to his knees. He placed a hand on Leo's arm but didn't speak.
"Sometimes," Leo whispered, gripping his legs, "I wish they just had thrown me in jail. I wish my lawyers weren't as good. I hate them for that." He gritted his teeth. "I hated how they played up how badly my parents treated me and made me cry at the stand. I hated how they kept acting like the doctor who said I had dissociative identity disorder was right when I know he was a lair." Bitterness seeped into Leo's words. "I ain't got D.I.D.. Chaos isn't another personality of mine that I didn't know about. He is me. I am him. We both deserve to be punished for everything we did."
Mysterion reached out and pried Leo's hand off his leg before he hurt himself.
"I know, Leo." Mysterion said, slowly. "But maybe there is something to all that. Not that you have D.I.D., but that maybe you and Chaos aren't the exact same person." At this, Leo swung his head around and met Mysterion's eyes.
Mysterion took a breath and chose his words carefully. "The Professor Chaos I knew always owned up to being a villain. He never denied that what he was doing was against the law but, he always said he shouldn't be punished for it. Chaos said he was doing the world a favor. That it was the lack of chaos in our society that made us so lazy and sedentary." He squeezed Leo's wrist. "He didn't feel any guilt for what he did. But you, Leo, you do. That's how I know you two aren't the same. Professor Chaos is gone. He's dead, and he's not holding you back from your growth like he's done for years. Do you understand?"
Leo swallowed. A layer of moisture covered his eyes, and he had to blink from tearing up. After a moment, Leo blew his nose against his smock and turned back to the painting.
"You know, there is another person I know in this painting." Leo leaned forward and grabbed a canvas from the middle. He sat back on his bottom with the canvas propped up against his knees. It was part of the scene of the sky and clouds. He turned the painting towards Mysterion.
"Can you see him?"
Mysterion narrowed his eyes, scanning the painting. After a moment, he pointed. "There?" He asked. It looked like a person, a child, sleeping, their head resting against the dragon's foot. The child's hands rested over their stomach with a peaceful expression on their face.
Leo nodded.  "Yeah, he's...an old friend of mine who passed away a long time ago." He pressed his fingers against the canvas. "He died at the hospital this is all going to. The doctors tried all they could to save him, but it couldn't be helped." Leo shook his head. "I hated seeing him waste away like he did."
Mysterion pursed his lips. After a heartbeat, he asked, "What's his name?"
Leo sighed. "His name was Kenny. We were only nine, and get he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy."
Mysterion took in a sharp breath that caused Leo to look towards him with a concerned expression. He coughed into his hand. "Sorry, I...someone very close to me passed from that same thing. I know how hard it is."
Leo's expression soften, and he turned back to the painting. "I'm sorry I brought it up then."
"Don't be. People get sick, and people die, that's...that's just how the world works."
Unless they’re me, Mysterion added to himself. He pushed the thought and the guilt away. Until he finally joined Freedom Pals and started to live full time at the estate, he had been faking his death and relocating himself over and over. It had been the only way to keep everyone he cared about safe from his growing rogue gallery. His drawn out battle with muscular dystrophy had only been the first.
'Kenny' needed to die for 'Mysterion' to raise.
For split second, the truth pressed against Mysterion's teeth. He had to swallow to keep the words from escaping. Leo didn't need to know about their shared past. It would only hurt him more.
"Heya, Mysterion." Leo whispered, almost inaudibly, "Think they would let me take flowers to his grave? Or would that break my parol?"
Mysterion let out a shake breath he prayed Leo didn't notice. "I'll see if I can pull some strings and let you go, even if I have to escort you there myself."
Leo's eyes grew wide. He stared at Mysterion. He didn't try to blink the tears away this time.
"Thank you, Mysterion."
My Fire Emblem Rankings
I’ve had a few questions about my legitimate Fire Emblem opinions and thoughts, so I figured I’d write this up while I’m waiting for some things to process. This is all just personal opinion, no shade is meant to be being thrown, and this probably won’t interest you too much.  But, hey, here it is.  I’ll list the Fire Emblems going from favorite to least favorite, and explain a little bit about why I feel that way. Note that I won’t be including 1-5.  I’m considering the remakes the “definitive” versions of 1/2/3, and I haven’t actually played the Jugdral games.  I’m also not counting Heroes because it’s kinda hard to “judge”, but I do like it a lot and play on a pretty regular basis. THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR EACH GAME!
Awakening is a game that gets a few things wrong but most things right.  What don’t I like about it?  I preferred the art style of the Tellius games.  The maps aren’t very creative.  Pair Up is a thematically cool mechanic that really doesn’t hold up to scrutiny and trivializes many encounters.  The story is simple, with the exception of a couple twists, and Validar is a dull villain. I like pretty much everything else.  Awakening managed to be accessible to new fans and still provide a nice challenge for series veterans.  There’s a diverse selection of characters who are all pretty viable, meaning you can use your favorites.  Most characters have a lot of personality and depth to their lines, like with how they turned Frederick from a typical stoic Jagen-type into this goofy obsessive pyromaniac without making him a complete joke character.   The SpotPass characters are also a lovely addition if you adore the series like I do, and there’s just so much to do in this game, so it feels like a celebration of the franchise as a whole.  If I’m trying to get someone into Fire Emblem, I will tell them to play Awakening. Favorite Character: Gregor or Owain. Least Favorite Character: Yarne #2. New Mystery Of The Emblem
Tumblr media
This is bias, yes, but I love New Mystery.  I was really excited for this game, because I was pretty new to the fanbase when it was announced, and couldn’t wait for an English release.  I waited, and waited, and waited, and... Once I finished playing my JP copy I just lamented that we didn’t get to play this game here.  I think that while Awakening reinvents Fire Emblem, New Mystery is sort of the pinnacle of “classic” FE.  The game is just fun, the maps are diverse and challenging, and the combination of reclass and the sheer amount of playable characters gives it immense replay value. The plot is nothing to really write home about, but after the vast wasteland of Shadow Dragon Plot, I really liked what was there.  It’s nothing that’ll blow your mind, but there are some nice moments.  I know a lot of people hate Kris, but I don’t mind them.  I won’t go to bat for them being any kind of great character or vital addition to the story, but as a sounding board to give other Archanea characters a little personality, and a way to customize your own unit and give them all sorts of terrible hats, they work just fine.  I also like the idea of Marth as a bit of a shell-shocked, reluctant king who relies on his friends to rise to greatness.  It prevents him from being “too perfect”, like RD Ike.  But I can see where people have problems with this. I wish this were a more accessible entry in the series, because I think it has a little bit of something for every Fire Emblem fan. Favorite Character: Honestly?  I like Caeda and Ogma, they’re cool people. Least Favorite Character: matthis is creepy and I hate him 3. Blazing Sword
Tumblr media
Like a lot of people, Blazing Sword was my first exposure to the series (through an LP on Youtube for me), and it does a great job.  You could honestly probably swap these first three around in any order, to be frank. The balance in this one is a little wonky, and it goes on a little too long.  But I like what it does with its extra time.  You get some clever gaidens that mix up the formula, have room to use lots of units, and the sprite animations are just wonderful to watch.  The three lords all bring something to the table, even though you’re honestly probably just going to play Hector Mode once you’ve unlocked it.  Lyn has a story about claiming your birthright and using nobility to help people, Hector’s brash and boorish nature is offset as he learns how to be a better person on his journey (That scene with Matthew on the Dread Isle is great.), and Eliwood...exists. With maps ranging from cramped and objective based to sprawling battlefields, there’s a lot of variety in gameplay and room for different units to shine.  It’s also got some of the best supports in the series.  It’s a must-play for any Fire Emblem fan. Favorite: Hector is a good boy and a friend.  Legault is also a surprisingly involved side-character with some great lines and dialogue with almost every Morph in the final map! Least Favorite: Jaffar, because it’s hard to tell if I hate him more for killing Leila or ramming his face into the paladin in Battle Before Dawn and getting slaughtered so many times.
4. Path Of Radiance
I guess only the top 3 are getting thumbnails, sorry.  PoR sticks with me because it tries a lot of new things and most of them work out.  The bonus experience is a good system, I think this game does support unlocks better than any other, Laguz units are fun to use, and the conversion to pseudo-3D maps feels smooth and never gets in the way of gameplay. There are issues, though.  I’m not a fan of the way the full-body portraits look in the cutscenes of this game, biorhythm is silly, and that Bridge Map sure does Exist.  The reason this isn’t breaking Top 3, though, is that I just never really got attached to the cast.  Characters are a big part of Fire Emblem for me, and while there are some great ones in PoR, there are also several that feel very forgettable.  The plot is also a little...iffy, because it’s all FANTASY RACISM and it feels like it’s trying to punch above its pay grade sometimes.  Like, be honest, did you give a shit that you had to kill Jill’s dad?  That character who showed up maybe once?  The maps also tend to blend together, with a few notable exceptions (because they’re annoying, mostly).   In Minor Nitpick Town, the 3D cutscenes are hilariously goofy and the Trial characters have really awful unlock conditions. Still, PoR is a very solid entry and I’d give it a hearty recommendation. Favorite: Ranulf, probably. Least Favorite: makalov shouldn’t have been recruitable
5. Sacred Stones I balked a little at putting this one this low, like “Really?  This is FIFTH?”  But I guess that’s just a testament to how much I enjoy all these games.  Like with the top three, you could probably swap this with PoR. Sacred Stones gets a lot of shit for being “too easy”, and I don’t think that’s necessarily wrong, but I also don’t think it’s that big a deal.  This game takes risks, but they’re good risks that frequently pay off.  This was the ideal game for the Trainee classes to come in, because you can actually feasibly use them!  The monsters add variation to the types of enemies you encounter!  Split promotions are interesting tactical decisions that give the player more control over their personal experience! There’s just...not a ton of substance to SS, though.  The monsters, at heart, aren’t really interesting to fight.  The game’s plot often feels like it’s on fast forward, and it ends before any real tension builds.  The villains are, with the exception of Lyon, who’s great, mostly just cardboard cutouts of bad guy stereotypes.  The postgame is mostly just grindy and once you’ve beaten the Tower or Ruins once, you’ll probably say “okay, I’m done!”  Well, you aren’t, not if you want 100%!  Get back in there and kill more Dracozombies to unlock your underleveled Druid! If you really crave that “challenge” as an essential part of your FE experience, although I think SS is often made out to be easier than it really is, you can probably skip it.  But for most fans, it’s not to be passed up. Favorite: L’Arachel, of course. Least Favorite: I usually forget Syrene is in the game until she appears. 6. Fates: Conquest Yes, I’m dividing Fates into three games.  Sue me.  Conquest feels like the best of the Fates routes, because it’s creative.  In... a lot of ways.  The maps are creative.  While some just amount to gimmicks, several are, in my opinion, series standouts.  Chapter 9 is a Defense map that actually feels like a Defense map.  You’ve got anti-siege weapons, you’re scrambling to keep the Hoshidans from flooding in, and when Takumi drains the water the whole dynamic of the map suddenly changes.  It rules.  To me, that map encompasses all the best parts of Conquest. It’s too bad it’s still in Fates, though.  Let’s get it out of the way: Plot Bad.  But, unique to Conquest, I think, is a plot so utterly ridiculous and convoluted that it actually becomes actively enjoyable.  This is a story where your cousin puts on a different colored costume to COMPLETELY FOOL your adoptive dad, who she reveals is actually a jelly monster, but cannot tell anyone else because of a terrible curse inflicted by the King Of The Jelly Monsters, so you organize an invasion of an entire country to unmask Jelly Dad by making him sit on the Super Special Chair that will reveal his gelatinous form.  I love it, to be honest. Otherwise my issues are mostly just the standard Fates Problems.  The game tries to take what worked in Awakening and amp it up to 11, which ruins most of it.  The child characters are unmemorable and the plot explanation is bafflingly nonsensical (BABY DIMENSIONS), the characters often feel like they’re just gimmicks that smash into eachother and then get married for some reason, and the game tries to be so many things at once that most of them feel half-assed or over-complicated. Jelly King Dad though. Favorite: Arthur cracks me up. Least Favorite: Peri Peri Peri peri peri p e r i   p  e  r  i 7. Echoes: Shadows Of Valentia
Confession time.  I still haven’t finished this one all the way.  I’ve seen the ending, though. Let’s get the problems out of the way first.  The gameplay is not very fun.  The map design delights in sticking you in poisonous swamps, slow and dreary deserts, or Nuibaba’s Abode, which I would personally say is the worst map in the series.  While some of Awakening and Birthright’s maps feel lazy, most maps in this game feel like they were designed either just to frustrate you or with a series of random dice rolls that somehow plant a single Cavalier at the ass-end of nowhere and extend the map for three turns with zero rhyme or reason.  Class balance is all over the place and you basically just want all the Dread Fighters possible, with a Cleric to summon more Dread Fighters.  The dungeon crawling doesn’t add much, most of the game mechanics go woefully underexplained, and the voiced supports feel minimalist and shallow. But when Echoes works?  It really, really works.  I don’t like playing it, but watching someone play Echoes is a treat.  The game is bursting with personality thanks to some phenomenal voice acting, which leaves the story with some unforgettable moments, both comic (the boey scream) and dramatic (Berkut Loses His Shit).  Even though the characters don’t have a lot of explicit backstory, their voices and conversations are so expressive that it’s easy to sort of form your own ideas about their personalities and lives.  The art is some of the best in the series, and each portrait is expressive and well done.  It’s clear that this remake had a lot of care put into it, and it produced some of the series best lords and a wonderful new villain in the sinister Berkut. 8. Radiant Dawn
A lot of good things from Path Of Radiance carry over to Radiant Dawn.  Namely, the stuff I mentioned earlier, I won’t go into it all again.  All of that is good, but the new additions and changes often don’t work. The multiple viewpoints has a few cool moments, like facing down Ike and friends in 3-13 (with the greatest faceless NPC of all time on your side), but often just contributes to making the game way too long and making the characters often appear outright stupid or contradictory for the sake of moving the plot along.  Remember when Micaiah, who spared one of the most vile people in FE history in Part 1, dumped flaming oil on a 13 year old girl and her guards in Part 3?  Remember when Ranulf just walks up and tells you who the Black Knight is, ending a mystery that had been developed since the previous game with the dialogue equivalent of showing you a spoiler on the internet?  Remember blood pacts? The massive split in characters also makes some of them completely worthless.  Never forget the sad case of Vika, who suddenly disappears and doesn’t return until almost the final chapter, still at her Part 1 level.  Yikes. I do enjoy the Finale maps a lot, however, and the final boss encounter is fairly memorable, though it does carry its own problem with Ike being basically hero worshipped by the entire cast, to the point where only he can strike down Ashera.  I like Ike, but RD kind of feels like it’s forcing him down your throat sometimes. Favorite: Out of the new characters, Nolan, probably? Least Favorite: surprise it’s still makalov 9. Shadow Dragon I’m sure this is bottoming out a lot of people’s lists, but let me make my case. 1. Reclass is cool and they introduced it in this.
2. Hardin’s turban.
3. The Prologue, where IS got to make new stuff, is a lot of fun and has personality.
4.
Okay, so Shadow Dragon is disappointing.  It’s a remake that did not change enough, and if the FE games were yogurt flavors, Shadow Dragon would be the batch they just forgot to put flavoring in.  Everything, down to the graphics, is covered in this thin veneer of blandness, and it’s sort of a muddy march to the finale, so you can finally take down a villain who literally gets about four lines in the whole game. The Gaiden chapters also feel like a rude prank.  If you want to get at the fun maps with the interesting characters with good dialogue, you have to slaughter all of your friends on purpose!  At least it’s in Shadow Dragon so you probably won’t like most of them anyway! Favorite: The guy who calls Gordin “Gaggles”. Least Favorite: surprise it’s still makalovmatthis 10. Binding Blade I admit that this is bizarre placement.  I just...don’t like Binding Blade.  It’s mostly due to stat distribution in gameplay, honestly.  The skill/luck formula in this one results in a lot of boss fights that are just two 40% characters whiffing on eachother for ages.  Several of the maps are giant slogs, especially 14, but I don’t remember any in particular that I really enjoyed.  The plot is okay, but not memorable.  Idunn is a bit of a letdown encounter.  Hector deserved better.  To summarize, I guess I just don’t think this is a game that does anything that Blazing Sword didn’t do better.  So I’m gonna play that one instead. Favorite: Bors because of a terrible stupid inside joke I have with a friend. Least Favorite: I don’t remember anyone I cared enough to dislike, really.  Let’s go with Cath for having the worst recruitment for a Worse Chad. 11. Fates: Birthright Remember all those cool things Conquest did?  What if they didn’t? Birthright! While the story is still bad, it’s not nearly as funny-bad, although I do have to give props to the scene where Flora sets herself on fire and Jakob spends about a solid minute screaming out how pointless this is, echoing the player’s thoughts perfectly.  The maps are mostly just stat-checks and open fields, and the answer to your problems often isn’t “make a better plan”, it’s “go grind a bit and then just roll through it”, especially on some late-game maps.  Iago’s comes to mind, with the whole Entrap into Berzerker combo?  Screw that. Favorite: Azama is a treasure.  On the NPC (in this route) side, Elise is a beacon of rationality and kindness.  I sure hope nothing happens to h-Oh. Least Favorite: I remember literally nothing about the personalities of Hana and Hinata so them, I guess.
12. Fates: Revelations Do you remember when I said Shadow Dragon was like unflavored yogurt?  What if all the flavorings got mixed into one batch?  And then you add chocolate and cherries and sprinkles and nuts and caramel and parsley and cinnamon and more cherries and shaved ice and spaghetti and then you tell it to explain the plot of Fates.  That’ll be 20 dollars. Revelations actively harms the other two routes of the game by being the obvious “true route”, where nobody has to get hurt (except the best characters, r.i.p. Scarlet and Izana) and everything turns out just fine, negating any sort of moral ambiguity present!  Anankos is a non-entity and a dull villain, and to add insult to injury, you don’t get to learn shit about him unless you buy the other DLC for this DLC that also decides to crib from Awakening and mess with some of the characters from that one.  Almost every map has a bizarre gimmick that’s just weirdly cumbersome, and the amount of plot twists the game shoves at you in an attempt to explain EVERYTHING is just exhausting.  You can play as any character in the Fates package (almost, double r.i.p. Izana) but the balance is tossed out the window to the point where once Niles and Odin come crawling in, they’re nigh-unusable in their joining chapter. It doesn’t feel like any part of it really comes together. Favorite: not this Least Favorite: Thinking about what else I could have bought with those 20 dollars. Well, that took about two hours, but this is my list.  If you have any questions, I’m open.  Sorry if I dissed your favorite, but if it helps, know that I can see why someone would enjoy any game in the series, even my least favorites.  Also, know that I’m an idiot on the internet and that my opinion doesn’t have to impact what you enjoy!  Just love the games you love, I’ll stick with mine, and we’re cool! I’m going to stop typing now.
Brave Little One. (Rogers/Reader)
Summary: You couldn’t imagine believing in anyone more than you believed in Steve Rogers. You had followed him into the battle of New York; and you had followed him further into bringing down Hydra-Shield; furthermore, you had fought Ultron and won, and you knew whatever it was- he’d do the same for you. Along the way, you had fallen madly in love with him, and he with you. So when the accords were laid in front of you in black and white, videos of what you’d all done in defense of the people, you knew the decision would be an easy one. Til he looked up at you with bright blue eyes, defiance swimming in them and your heart broke.
Or, the one where Captain America refuses to sign the accords and the ink of your signature was practically already drying on the page.
Pairing: Steve/Reader (female pronouns)
A/N: Hi there, so this is going to be my attempt at a multi part story and I kind of liked the idea of lovers torn (the reader and Steve are already in a relationship from the start). The first few parts will be the whirlwind that was the first part of cap3, up til they get arrested and then from there you will start to get backstory on Steve and her, how she was found and joined the avengers, plus angst and swearing because I am apparently part sailor lol but thanks for reading and hope you enjoy lovelies
Disclaimer; i own nothing but the reader’s basic personality and Marvel if y'all want that, you can have it lol
“You have to take responsibility for your actions.” Ross had demanded, showing the havoc the lot of you had wreaked all over the world. “While some see you as heroes, a great many see you as vigilantes.”
You had felt smaller than an ant as he stared you down, eyes beaming directly into yours when he pulled up a video of what you’d done in Sokovia. You had the ability to manipulate the elements, and the gust of wind you’d used to take out a hoard of Iron Legion bots also leveled a whole - empty - block. You had sunk in your chair, eyes darting to Steve’s as he reached out to take your hand with a sorry gaze.
“That’s enough.” Steve had commanded, the clip of Wanda accidentally sending Rumlow through an office building playing behind him. “Cut it off, you made your point Ross.” Then the accords had been introduced, landing in front of you on the table with a resounding bang.
‘Approved by 117 countries’ is all you could hear. 117. 117 countries saw you all as a liability, as borderline a problem. 117 countries wanted you to take responsibility for what you’d done. Where did that leave all of you then? You didn’t want to be owned by government officials, with agendas and problems that didn’t fit your job description. That’s why you signed up for the Avengers in the first place, so you wouldn’t be some lab rat. Steve’s hand tightened in yours, your eyes meeting his as he gave you and encouraging smile before glancing over at Tony.
“The UN meets in Vienna three says from now, talk it over.”
-
You had read through the gist of the accords, double and triple checking for loopholes or any kind of mistreatment of you all as humans and so far you couldn’t find any. Sam and Rhodey had been getting into it all afternoon, something about medals and criminals but you weren't really paying attention as you switched between watching Steve read the accords and Tony sitting despondently - he seemed utterly concentrated.
“I have an equation.” Vision started, earning groans from Sam but you were willing to hear the android man out. And you were glad you did because he made far too much sense. Strength had always bred challenge, Steve’s immediate defensiveness sitting heavily on your chest. You had never felt so disconnected from him then in that moment. You couldn’t figure out what he was thinking, didn’t know what that stone cold expression on his face meant but you knew Steve, knew he’d make the right choice and you’d probably follow right along with it.
“Tony, you’re being uncharacteristically non-hyperverbal.” Natasha pointed out what you’d all already noticed. Tony shifted and it was like a cold breeze through the room.
“It’s because he’s already made up his mind.” Steve’s jaw tightened, hand crumpling the papers a bit as Tony stood. Your eyes went wide, mind catching up to your eyes and relaying the message of understanding. That wasn’t despondent posture you’d noticed. It wasn’t concentration, it was acceptance and the relaxation in his choice.
“Actually, I'm nursing an electromagnetic headache. That's what's going on, Cap. It's just pain. It's discomfort. Who's putting coffee grounds in the disposal? Am I running a bed and breakfast for a biker gang?” Tony deflected. He tapped his phone against the wireless photo display, letting a photo of a young boy none of you recognized pop up on the screen. “Oh, that's Charles Spencer by the way. He's a great kid. Computer engineering degree, 3.6 GPA. Had a floor level gig at Intel planned for the fall. But first, he wanted to put a few miles on his soul... before he parked it behind a desk. See the world. Maybe be of service. Charlie didn't want to go to Vegas or Fort Lauderdale, which is what I would do. He didn't go to Paris or Amsterdam, which sounds fun. He decided to spend his summer building sustainable housing for the poor. Guess where, Sokovia.” You looked away from the photo with tears stuck in your throat. You had been the one to level most of Sokovia. “He wanted to make a difference, I suppose. I mean, we won't know because we dropped a building on him while we were kicking ass. There's no decision-making process here. We need to be put in check! Whatever form that takes, I'm game. If we can't accept limitations, if we're boundary-less, we're no better than the bad guys.”
“Tony, someone dies on your watch, you don't give up.” What was Steve doing? Did he just not hear what Stark said? Responsibility needed to be taken for what you’d all done.
“Who said we're giving up?”
“We are if we're not taking responsibility for our actions. This document just shifts the blames.” You were this close to arguing him when Rhodey cut you off.
“I’m sorry. Steve. That... That is dangerously arrogant. This is the United Nations we're talking about. It's not the World Security Council, it's not SHIELD, it's not HYDRA.”
“No, but it's run by people with agendas and agendas change.”
“That's good. That's why I'm here. When I realized what my weapons were capable of in the wrong hands, I shut it down and stop manufacturing.”
“Tony, you chose to do that. If we sign this, we surrender our right to choose. What if this panel sends us somewhere we don't think we should go? What if there is somewhere we need to go, and they don't let us? We may not be perfect, but the safest hands are still our own.” Why was Steve fighting this so much? He had a good point but was he fighting being under supervision or afraid of another Hydra-Shield situation?
“If we don’t so this now,” You finally broke in, “Do you think it’ll be done to us?” Tony nodded. They’d force your hand.
“You're saying they'll come for me, and you.” She placed her hand on your arm, accepting your pained smile with one of her own. She’d been your best friend through all this - minus Steve, of course. But she understood you in a way no one else could.
“We would protect you, both of you.” Vision explained. But they couldn’t dedicate their lives to protecting yours when there was a whole world out there.
You had never felt so confused in your life with both sides of the coin having equally valid opinions. You had to take responsibility, that was the agreed upon consensus but how? By letting others help decide so it was less likely for there to be so much collateral or was it truly just shifting blame around so it didn’t rest on all of you? Or was it arrogant like Rhodey said to think you could make decisions that involved innocent lives when aliens and sentient AI robots were involved?
“Perhaps Tony’s right.” All of your heads went on a swivel to Natasha. What? “If we have one hand on the wheel, we can still steer but if we take it off, then nothing.” The way Sam’s neck elongated, hands folding over his chest as he leaned closer would have been comical in any other situation but you could feel an impending fight and for once, looking in Steve’s eyes didn’t calm you in the slightest because you still couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
“I’m sorry, aren’t you the woman who told the government to kiss her ass a few years ago?” Sam exclaimed. “Then released all the Shield files?”
“I’m just reading the terrain.” She explained, rolling her eyes when Tony held up his hand. He was grinning like the cheshire cat.
“Focus up. I’m sorry. Did I mishear you or did you agree with me?”
“I want to take it back now.”
“No, no, no. You can't retract it. Thank you. Unprecedented. Okay, case closed - I win.” Steve’s phone chiming interrupted the small moment of comedy, the look on his face telling you that no one would be winning today.
“i have to go.” You stood with him, following him as he practically flew down the stairs. He stopped halfway, only to turn and drag you into his arms as tears welled in his eyes.
“What’s wrong?”
“Peggy.” he didn’t have to say more. You simply let the moment be, forgetting about the accords and how you didn’t know where you stood let alone where he would. You just held the man you loved, while he cried for the woman he never truly got to.
-
Sharon Carter was a beautiful woman with long blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes to match. She held herself with a poise you’d seen in old photos of Peggy, but more than that, she held herself with a confidence you wished you could possess. So much confidence that when she started to speak, for the first time that day, you truly listened.
“Margaret Carter was known to most as a founder of SHIELD... but I just knew her as Aunt Peggy. She had a photograph in her office. Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to. Which is why I never told anyone we were related. I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either. And she said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move... it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in they eye and say " No, you move.””
It was in that one minute long speech, that one paragraph of profound thinking and intense truth that you made your decision. You don’t know if it was the fact that Peggy Carter, the woman who stood up stronger then she fell, said it or if it was because you’d known all along and just needed a little shove in the right direction. Whatever it was, you finally felt settled for the first time since seeing the accords.
Then you looked over at Steve and it was like someone took your heart in their hands, crushing it with all their might. It was such a strong feeling, such deep emotion that you felt yourself tear up because bright blue was already looking back at you. The resilience in his eyes, the downright stubbornness of a man who was about to be the cause of an absolute shit show, made you question your own resolve enough that you don’t think he realized the truth yet. Not like you had, because you knew it’d break his heart.
He wasn’t going to sign those papers, but you had to.
Pairing I am not a fan of: I’m still wrapping my mind around Ino ending up with Sai, though I wouldn’t call them a deal breaker
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I feel like if I made a Naruto playlist, I’d put “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele on it not to represent any character or pairing but to represent how we could have had it all narratively if some different choices were made
Favourite Friendship: I’m not sure I had a favorite one but I enjoyed all the little friendships that cropped up over the years
Character I most identify with: Naruto
Character I wish I could be: I wouldn’t have minded being a teacher at the school
BnHA/MHA
Favorite character: Yagi
Least Favorite character: Mineta
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon):
EraserMic
EraserMight
TodoBaku
IzuOcha
Inko/Yagi
Character I find most attractive: I’m not sure
Character I would marry: I’m not sure, but I would totally date Yamada
Character I would be best friends with: I’m not sure about best friends but I’d have probably run around with the whole Aizawa, Kayama, Yamada, etc...etc...group or if I wasn’t part of UA it wouldn’t surprise me if I got along well with Ms Joke or Fat Gum
a random thought: If they don’t dismantle the current societal structures and start creating real heroes by the end of the manga what’s the point?
An unpopular opinion: I would fight Endeavor
My Canon OTP: There aren’t really a lot of definitely canon pairings to choose from are there?
My Non-canon OTP: EraserMic
Most Badass Character: There are a lot of badasses
Most Epic Villain: I enjoy the League’s theatrics
Pairing I am not a fan of: Every time I run into a student/teacher pairing when looking for fanfic a part of me dies
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I would like to see Ochaco become more of a Haruno Sakura at some point
Favourite Friendship: Bakusquad and Dekusquad nonsense is always fun
Character I most identify with: part Midoriya, part Bakugou, part Todoroki
Character I wish I could be: I wouldn’t mind being a teacher or perhaps a rescue/recovery hero who uses a hammer as both a tool and defensive weapon
Action movie comparison( The Dark Knight vs Avengers Infinity War).
This post will consist of the analysis and evaluation of two of my personal favorite action movies Christopher Nolan's 2008 master piece the Dark Knight and The the 2018 box office breaker Avengers Infinity War.
Tumblr media
The first of the two films I will be analyzing is The Dark Knight. The general plot of the movie is  With the help of allies Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman (Christian Bale) has been able to keep a tight lid on crime in Gotham City. But when a vile young criminal calling himself the Joker (Heath Ledger) suddenly throws the town into chaos, the caped Crusader begins to tread a fine line between heroism and vigilantism.
The first point I will be addressing is the characters following the character type theory of character types by Vladimir Propp. The hero of the movie is Batman(Christian Bale) a one man war on the constant crime of Gotham city. The films villain is the Joker(Heath Ledger) an “agent of chaos” as he puts it, the characters sole purpose is to make the hero break his one rule which is “I will not kill”. The helper of the movie is commissioner James Gordon(Gary Oldman) as batman's main ally throughout the movie as well as his main source of Intel for all crime within the city. While the film itself lacks a donor and a dispatcher it does contain a false hero. Harvey Dent(Aaron Eckhart) begins as the charismatic DA of Gotham city, dents most iconic quote in the film is a perfect foreshadow for whats to come. “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain” is a brilliant tease to how Harvey eventually becomes the villain two face.
The movie itself contains many traits that would you would associate with an action movie explosions,gun shots, police cars and cops etc. What makes this movie so entertaining is how it grounds a comic book property in a grounded and realistic environment, the way in which Nolan managed to make the film feel as real as possible adds to its effectiveness. The shots within this movie themselves range from wide aerial shots of Gotham to batman's shaky cam brawls with criminals.
Tumblr media
The films most iconic shot is shown above, as batman stands over a pit of money that the joker had previously burnt, he realizes the joker’s true message about chaos. This shot alone is seen as the films most iconic and recognizable images and applies to Jokers established mentality of that some men just want to watch the world burn, which is beautifully symbolized by the Joker burning the most important asset in making the world function that being money.
Levi Strauss’ theory of binary opposites is applied to Batman and the Joker, the light and the darkness, the Joker’s quote “what would I do without you” highlights that one of them cannot exist without the other.
Tumblr media
The films itself possesses a closed narrative, the only real story present is batman's mission to stop the joker, no other characters possess any character moments that don’t involve batman except for maybe the joker.
Plot twists are not really present within the movie except for Harvey’s sudden transformation into the villainous two-face thanks to a severe injury he received due to do the joker’s actions. Harvey himself would fill the slot of the false hero according to Propp’s character theory as he starts as an ally to batman before becoming an antagonist. The teaching of Aristotle’s tragic hero applies to the character of Harvey also.
A macguffin is not needed in order for the plot to be moved along, instead the story continues through the characters actions.
This is my dark knight portion of the blog.
The second of the two action movies I will be discussing is Avengers infinity war, the cinematic event which acted as the culmination of 18 previous movies.
Tumblr media
The plot of this movie is  Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet -- the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.
One aspect that immediately differs this movie from the dark knight is the over whelming number of characters. Whilst the dark knight follows Propp’s character theory very well with one set hero, villain, helper etc, Infinity war has a total of around 30 heroes with only a handful of villains. The most likely main heroes of this movie are most likely Tony Stark (Robert Downy jr), Steve Rogers( Chris Evans) and Thor(Chris Hems worth). The primary objective of are heroes is to stop the films primary villain Thanos(Josh Brolin) and his plan to wipe out half the universes population. One thing that separates the character types within the two movies is the realistic factor. Whilst the dark knight is set in a grounded realistic setting, infinity war is set in a universe comprised of magic, aliens, Norse mythology and advanced technology. whilst Batman is for the most part a character of realism, the trio of heroes of infinity war consist of a super soldier, a literal god and a genius inventor with a armored suit to advanced to be deemed realistic. Taking a look at the films antagonists the Joker and Thanos one of whom is a psychotic madman and the other is the soul survivor of a deceased alien race. There is a clear difference between the two antagonists.
One thing to discuss is the antagonists motivation. In most action movies the main villain of the movie is evil just for the sake of being evil, however both the Joker and Thanos have such complex motives that each receive their own response. As mentioned above the Jokers main objective is to drive Batman to killing him which in turn would destroy everything the character stands for, whislt this is a interesting premise it lacks any real motive or logic behind it. Thanos on the other hand is the complete opposite, as previously mentioned Thanos is the soul survivor of his race who went extinct due to over population and lack of sustainable resources. He wishes to gather the films macguffn the six infinity stones and use their combined power to wipe out half the universe at once so that the other half of the universe can survive. Thanos’ sparked many debates upon movie goers who were discussing whether or not they sided with him or not. At the end of the day what defines an antagonist is their effect on the hero and their world. Whilst the joker failed to break Batman he did succeed in making the rest of Gotham see him as a murderer which in turn led to him hanging up the cowl. Thanos, in a shocking turn of events succeeds in completing his goal of destroying half the universe, with one snap of his fingers many beloved characters began to fade away to ash, the list included Spider man(Tom Holland), Doctor Strange(Benedict Cumberbatch), Black Panther( Chadwick Boseman) and many others. This led to Thanos having a both physical and metaphorical impact on the heroes.
Whilst the dark knight contains action grounded within login, meaning hand to hand combat and shootouts, infinity war uses its unrealistic to its advantage. Fight scenes are present throughout the movie spanning places like New York, Edinburgh, Africa and even another planet. The camera work incorporated into the movie consists of many close ups on characters faces to show their responses to certain things, transitions back and forth between characters as well as pans across the many environments to give a sense of scope are also used. This movie is packed full of action movie stereotypes with large scale explosions, desolated areas etc. The dark knights single hero left most of its action scenes feeling repetitive as they were all pretty much just Batman vs a single or multiple antagonists. Infinity war makes sure to incorporate its large character roster into its actions scenes, in terms of action set pieces the two films possess their own unique style.
The film does posses a potential Deus Ex Machina in the form of Thor as not only is he an actual God but he also turns the tide at the battle of Wakanda. Whilst the dark knight lacks the presence of this narrative device. This is not seen within the dark knight, the dyer situation is saved by those within it, not a seemingly out of nowhere occurrence which helps add to the films realistic tone.
Infinity war has very prominent  uses shot reverse shot which is when a characters eye line is met and then what they were looking at is revealed. This camera method acts as the introduction to both Thanos and Captain America. In the beginning of the film the character Loki(Tom Hiddleston) gazes towards an unknown figure before the camera pans over to reveal Thanos menacingly standing above a injured Thor, the scenes score adds to its effectiveness. Later on, while the characters of Scarlett Witch( Elizabeth Olsen) and Vison(Paul Bettany) are cornered by two of the movies second tier antagonists, immediately the characters glance over towards an unknown figure who is then revealed to be Captain America.
Unlike the dark knight which was a very self contained closed narrative piece, infinity war is an open narrative with the movies character being comprised of multiple groups throughout the whole movie. Each of the main trio I previously established lead a group to forward the plot. Iron man and company venture to space in order to combat Thanos head on, Thor along with two members of the guardians of the galaxy who are another team of marvel heroes who are dragged into the conflict are in search of a weapon powerful enough to kill Thanos, meanwhile down on earth the remaining heroes as well as black panthers army are led by Captain America as they combat the enemies attack on earth. This film is supposed to be the culmination of 18 movies worth of character development and its plays off very well.
Tumblr media
The main difference between these two movies is their scale and their character roster, while both have gone down in history as possessing two of cinemas best villains it is clear that the two of them are drastically unique. Whilst Propps character theory cannot be applied due to the shear number of characters however Levi Strauss’ theory of binary opposites can apply to the films forefront conflict of Tony Stark vs Thanos both of whom have been aware of eachother just not by name.
Tumblr media
This could be argued as the movies main conflict throughout as Tony and Thanos are at the forefront of their respective role as hero and villain.
Both movies possess different key themes, The Dark Knight and its themes of chaos and anarchy can be summed up by both the shot I previously showed but also the quote spoken to Batman by Alfred(Michael Cain), when referring to the joker he says “some men just want to watch the world burn” which again correlates to the shot of batman standing over the jokers pile of burnt money, the movies main tagline in advertisement being “welcome to a world without rules” . Infinity war is a film about loss and sacrifice which plays a role throughout every key scene. In order for Thanos to receive one of the six infinity stones he first had to sacrifice guaridans member Gamora who is in fact his own daughter as he is told by the stones guardian” you must lose that which you love most”. Later on in the movie when Thanos is confronted by Doctor Strange( Benedict Cumber batch) he tells the sorcerer supreme that “the hardest choices require the strongest will”. At the films end when Thanos succeeds in wiping out half of the universes population he is seen speaking briefly to the spirit of Gamora who asks him what achieving his goal cost to which he replies “everything”.
To evaluate both movies are of the action genre and comic book genre but are so drastically different in almost every aspect which is what makes both films some of cinemas most iconic pieces.
In the early evening of August 21, 2015, the world watched in stunned silence as the media reported a thwarted terrorist attack on Thalys train #9364 bound for Paris—an attempt prevented by three courageous young Americans traveling through Europe. The film follows the course of the friends’ lives, from the struggles of childhood through finding their footing in life, to the series of unlikely events leading up to the attack. Throughout the harrowing ordeal, their friendship never wavers, making it their greatest weapon and allowing them to save the lives of the more than 500 passengers on board. The heroic trio is comprised of Anthony Sadler, Oregon National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, and U.S. Air Force Airman First Class Spencer Stone, who play themselves in the film. Starring alongside them are Jenna Fischer (“Hall Pass,” TV’s “The Office”); Judy Greer (“War for the Planet of the Apes”); Ray Corasani (TV’s upcoming “The Long Road Home”); PJ Byrne (“The Wolf of Wall Street”); Tony Hale (TV’s “Veep”); and Thomas Lennon (“Transformers: Age of Extinction”). Paul-Mikél Williams plays the younger Anthony, Bryce Gheisar plays the younger Alek, and William Jennings plays the younger Spencer. Eastwood (“Sully,” “American Sniper”) directs from a screenplay by Dorothy Blyskal, based on the book by Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, Spencer Stone and Jeffrey E. Stern. Eastwood also produces the film, along with Tim Moore, Kristina Rivera and Jessica Meier. The film’s executive producer is Bruce Berman. Behind the scenes, the creative team includes frequent collaborators Tom Stern, who served as cinematographer on 13 of Eastwood’s previous films, and Deborah Hopper, who has served as Eastwood’s costume designer on 17 prior films; editor Blu Murray, who most recently cut “Sully,” and that film’s composer, Christian Jacob. Veteran art director Kevin Ishioka, whose work can be seen in “Sully” and in “Dunkirk,” serves as production designer. Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Malpaso production, “The 15:17 to Paris.” The film will be released in theaters on February 9, 2018.
