Welcome to my Ted Talk about AsPD, or Antisocial Personality Disorder, which the internet likes to coin as sociopath 👌🏻 if you don’t like long infodumps about stigmatized mental disorders from someone who is diagnosed, move on.

Quick toxic rundown: People with AsPD are generally characterized as emotionless, violent, manipulative abusers who kill animals and like to make other people their bitches. The biggest pet peeve we have is the emotionless, sadistic and abusive generalization.

Personally, we are highly neurotic, with highs and lows of: depression, frantic drive, self abuse tactics, chronic fear, lapses of rejection, overwhelming over-analyzation, grey area thinking, false goods and false bads, ultimatums, obsessive compulsive behavior, harsh self demands, and irritability.

AsPD is a disorder that is caused primarily (according to current research) by trauma and abuse in childhood; most notably being emotional neglect and absent caregivers that cause a child to have emotional shutdowns and repression episodes in an attempt to self soothe. Primary caregivers who do not bond with their children are also a factor. Children learn how to behave from those around them. If a primary caregiver is emotionally distant and unavailable, children will learn that is normal behavior and that’s how people are. If a primary caregiver does not provide empathy and sympathy during moments of distress and fear, children will learn that aloofness and disregard of others feelings is normal behavior. If a primary caregiver does not keep a child safe, children will learn that they should not prioritize their own safety or the safety of others. You can find my follow up post regarding this here.

Neglected and abused children often act out trying to get attention and help, often acting out in bad ways because they lack the ability to articulate what they’re feeling and what is happening to them. The pipeline for AsPD typically is: Oppositional Defiance Disorder as a child, Conduct Disorder as a teen, AsPD as an adult. There are a lot of warning signs cueing that AsPD is becoming a risk for development, but often kids do not have a support system to help negate it as it’s their support system that is usually a factor in its creation.

Being AsPD is like being an emotional La Croix 70% of the time. If you’re depressed, then it’s like someone in the other room has depression and is telling you about it. The other 30% of the time, if you’re depressed, your brain doesn’t understand how to handle it so it’s an ultimatum between doing something drastic to remove the Trigger or ignoring and dissociating for days on end.

People with AsPD are very good at ignoring things. Honestly it’s problematic as fuck but it’s not hard to ignore major issues when you just, don’t care. It’s not in the terms of being cruel or making ourselves not care, but the fact that finding the emotional willpower is so far out of our feasible reach we don’t do it. This causes us to piss people off because we don’t have the capacity to care as much as they want us to, even if we can and do to an extent.

Think of it this way: empathy/sympathy is a deep tub of water that everyone has. They can easily fill their measuring cup for the needed amount of empathy without any issues and it’s easy for them. People with AsPD don’t have a tub of water. We have shallow skillet. When we try to dip our cup to fill it, we can’t, it always comes up short and it is difficult to get any water in it as there is no room for the cup to dive. Our ability to care is limited because we do not have the same emotional resources everyone else does.

❌ False Positives & False Negatives ❌

I operate on what I’ve learned are called false positives and false negatives. These are things that are trained into the brain from an early age based off of childhood trauma and other factors. False positives are a distorted version of why we do something to help ourself and for our own good, meanwhile a false negative is something we do because it’s a threat, or based out of fear.

❌ Some of my false positives:

- It is good to be afraid of nothing

- It is good to adapt to someone’s personality if they are stronger than you

- It is good to isolate yourself

- It is good to be a silver tongue because you can get into any place you want

- It is good to become a social chameleon and shape yourself to whatever those around you need/want most, because then you have no chance of being abandoned

❌ Some of my false negatives, which can explain the false positives as well as core beliefs:

- it is bad to be afraid, if I am afraid then I am vulnerable and it can be used against me

- It is bad to be emotional or show concern for others emotions because they do not care for mine

- It is bad to be able to be exploited, because I believe it is everywhere

- It is bad to allow myself to be bored, because boredom begets bad thoughts and no one can or wants to help me when I spiral

- It is bad to not shape yourself to the social circle, because people quickly grow tired of those who do not match them perfectly and being discarded means I failed

My core beliefs can be viewed as the root for the false positives and negatives, because they are based on the core of trauma, abuse and neglect. They come from patterns and instances that make someone with AsPD become the opposite of what they experienced:

- eat or be eaten

- If I don’t show that my bite is worse than my bark, I will be taken advantage of and I must remain on top because the ones on top are safe

- I must look out for myself because nobody will do it for me

- It doesn’t matter what happens to me, therefore it doesn’t matter what people think of me

- If I cannot do something well, then I should not do it at all

- If you are dependent on others for emotional and mental well being, you are weak, therefore I must isolate myself to avoid becoming codependent and a burden and useless

- If I can handle the stress of a situation better than everyone else, therefore I will keep the problem (financial, emotional, mental, etc) to myself to reduce chances of being abandoned due to failure of perfection

People with AsPD are hard to get along with. We often:

- are always anticipating a fight

- lack respect for authority

- ignore social structures to an extent

- tendency to lie if it’ll lessen punishment or if we feel the lie is more acceptable than our actions

- limit social support because it’s wrong to be dependent on others

- have an inflated view of our own importance — which turns into a self ridicule for believing someome like me could be found important to others —

- can be rude and inconsiderate of others feelings somewhat unintentionally

- are unable to read the correct social cues in relation to empathy towards people and animals

- am constantly confused by others dependence upon empathy and inability to make desicions from logic based standpoints

We can’t speak for everyone who has AsPD, nor are we saying that no one with AsPD is capable of being a murderer/abuser etc. but we are saying that y’all need to stop automatically classifying someone as a certain “type” as soon as you know about their disorder.

One last thing I do want to point out is that it is not uncommon for people with AsPD to derive some sort of enjoyment in causing harm, doing something illegal, hurting someone or animals, etc. This entirely stems from lack of environmental control as a child. Being able to control what happens to others or being able to control the things you say or do that hurts someone else is a hefty high to get addicted to; it soothes the underlying itch of not being able to control your own trauma and abuse, so in turn you push these behaviors onto others and enjoy it because it gives you a sense of power and control. Some people with AsPD do genuinely love hurting others, and some enjoy hurting others when they believe it’s deserved or their ire has been stoked. Some enjoy causing pain to those they think deserve it, and others don’t care who they hurt as long as they feel like they’re in control of the situation.

Monet/Jubilee

Neither of them are really able to separate their love for each other from their petty, teenage resentments. It's just a juggernaut of feelings, many of them negative.

Jubes' fashion is usually very casual, influenced by late 80s early 90s hip hop and is kinda "tomboy". Monet is high femme, with 90s goth chic elements. OK that is just a description... Hc that jubes likes to elevate her style to suits and menswear, play the gentleman role. Monet makes fun of this but also enjoys it.

So...(for colour, this is occurring in my slightly alternative version of canon where something happened with the St. Croix sisters and Penance before house of x) after M-Plate 2: 2 M 2 Plate, Jubes does keep trying to reach out to M. She ghosts her. At first because she's avoidant, and then because she gets caught up in the plot (yes, there's a plot. No I haven't written it.). But once it's over, Monet gets the telepathic email forward from Charles and thinks "I should text her". She doesn't. But she does come back to the xmen and she hopes that Jubes knows what that means: that she does miss her, she does need her.

Despite all of her, you know, vibes, Monet is happy to stay in if she genuinely feels unjudged. Jubes is the one who makes her do things.

All of Monet's happiest memories of her time in the US as a teen are memories of Jubes. Not that she didn't love the others, but Jubilee is the only one who remained untainted. I don't think Jubilee feels the same dependency, but also I think she wants Monet more. She knows she's attracted to her and would happily just say it.

Hello! Do you think you can tell us more about Hamilton’s cousin Ann?

Named after her mother who was a sister of Rachel Faucett's, Anne Lytton was the eldest daughter of James Lytton and Anne Faucett, making her a first cousin to Alexander Hamilton. She was born sometime in 1743. In her early teens, she married a poor Christiansted grocer, Thomas Hallwood. They had a son, but after merely one year of marriage, Hallwood died. In 1759, when she was sixteen years old, Anne remarried the more prosperous John Kirwan Venton. And they bought a small sugar estate. They had one child, a girl named Ann Lytton Venton, after her mother.

But by 1762, Venton's business had failed, and their home and effects were seized by creditors. The couple traveled to New York, leaving their infant daughter with Anne's parents. In 1769, her father James died. He was Hamilton's uncle-in-law, and also the one who signed off on the probate record stating that Hamilton was thirteen years old in 1768, which would cause the whole confusion about Hamilton's respective age. With the inheritance now in her name, in 1770, Anne and Venton returned to St. Croix to claim her share of her father's, James's estate. Where two-sevenths of his estate were left to Anne, but apparently Venton had friction with his in-laws; as he was excluded from any money, as James called him “unfortunate in his conduct.”

Probably due to this, Venton and Anne's marriage had become bitter and unhappy — which lead to their separation, where Anne and her daughter stayed in Christiansted, while Venton took refuge in Frederiksted. After the hurricane, John Venton filed for bankruptcy again and posted a notice to his creditors. Similar to Johann Michael Lavien, Anne's sister's ( Rachel Faucett ) divorced husband, Venton also placed the following threatening ad;

“JOHN KIRWAN VENTON forbids all masters of vessels from carrying Ann Venton, or her daughter Ann Lytton Venton off this island.”

Some documents were found on Thomas Lillie's plantation in a wooden chest that had been sealed on his death. The chest was opened on February 6, 1776, and the documents were registered at that time. As Newton has pointed out some details about these documents suggest some things about Anne; she signed her name in most of the early records which indicates she was literate, and had a decent education. Anne also signed her name as “Anne Mitchell.” Most people usually make the mistake of writing her name as “Ann,” instead.

Defying her divorced husband's warning, Anne and her daughter fled to New York. To secure her inheritance, Anne entrusted the - sixteen or eighteen year old - Hamilton with the authority of attorney that allowed him to collect payments from her father's estate throughout May and early June, of 1773;

“1059. Ann Venton’s quittance of the 16th of May 1772 with Hamilton for 45 rigs-dollars cash and a hogshead of sugar.”

Historians have debated that from Hamilton receiving all the money, sugar, and rum, had acted as Anne's “middleman,” ( A middleman is someone who works buying goods from one source and selling them to another ) with the intent to prevent her divorced husband from collecting her share of the proceeds from the estate of her father James Lytton. But as Newton argued; the records clearly show that Anne regularly debited James's estate without the need of a “middleman.” Thus, it's evident that the above transactions involving Hamilton were gifts to him. Notably, Hamilton by the time of these transactions had a stable and profiting job, as he was working as head clerk for Nicholas Cruger. And had lived for many years without apparent financial support from his cousin. With this in mind, Hamilton clearly did not need these funds from Anne for his everyday living. It is presumable that these gifts were to help Hamilton pay for his education on the mainland, since he would travel to the mainland not too long after. The funds given to Hamilton by Anne during the May and June of 1772 are the first indications that Hamilton was ever planning, or even preparing to go to the mainland for school. Which kinda debunks the ideology that Hamilton had only been sent to America for an education as a direct result of the attention received from his detailed account of the great hurricane, which was not written until five months later — and not published until after he had already left the island.

And then John Venton died in 1776. In 1780, three years after the death of Venton, Anne married George Mitchell, a native of Scotland who had gone to St. Croix from Virginia. In 1783, the couple returned to America and settled in Burlington, New Jersey. Due to the remaining estate issues of her late father, as Hugh Knox brings up the matter in a 1783 letter to Hamilton;

“Mr. & Mrs. Mitchell have, I hear, left these Islands and gone to America. I have not hear’d from them or of them Since their Departure. I am Sorry to Inform you that no Justice Seems to be done in the dealing of Mr Litton; & that as things are Situated & perplexed, I fear little will come out of it for Any of the Heirs.”

Despite the strain of distance through the years, Hamilton was happy to assist his cousin. The following entries appear in H’s Cash Book, 1795–1804; for July 11, 1796, “Account of Donations Dr to Cash for this sum paid my Cousin Mrs. Mitchells draft upon me 100”; for January 10, 1797, “Account of Donations for this sum paid my cousin Mrs Mitchells draft upon me 100”; on April 13, 1797, “Account of Donations Dr. to Alex Robinson for Mrs. Mitchells draft on me accepted & surrendered say 19. 10/ Phil Curr 52”; on June 20, 1797, “To Account of Donations for received of A Robinson in reimbursement of Mrs. Mi[t]chells draft 100” ( for source, check the footnotes ). George Mitchell died in 1797, and Anne returned to St. Croix in 1796, or 1797, with Hamilton's financial assistance.

She married once more in 1798, to a Goldsmith born in Sweden; “Widberg N.F. a goldsmith born Sweden died 4.10.1800 St. Cr. marr Ann Lytton Venton 1798.” But he passed in October of 1800. Anne was “called upon to pay attention to his funeral” but it was “not in [her] power to do it unless” she was given “money for that purpose” due to her “distressing situation.” according to Newton.

In April 1801, Anne had ran into financial struggle without her husband to support her and her daughter. And again she complained of her extreme need of money and begged that the “six months interest” due to her and her daughter, presumably from the Lytton estate, be paid. She accordingly received 120 pieces of eight. Anne again requested the “six months’ interest” owed to her and her daughter. In her requests of April and October 1802, Anne Mitchell again writes of her “extreme want” of the money owed to them. Clearly, Anne and her daughter, Anne Lytton Widberg, struggled to make ends meet and therefore wanted and needed what was owed to them with eagerness. But in October of 1802, Anne lived “now next [to] the Dutch Church” in Christiansted, St. Croix.

Even when Hamilton commonly grew out of contact with many that were close to him once before, or buried his Caribbean roots and those that reminded him of it far behind; Hamilton never saw his debt to Anne and all she had done for him repaid, even after his financial support in 1797. The night before Hamilton's fatal duel with Burr, he wrote Elizabeth a special note in case he wouldn't make it. In it, he tells Elizabeth;

“Mrs. Mitchel is the person in the world to whom as a friend I am under the greatest Obligations. I have ⟨not⟩ hitherto done my ⟨duty⟩ to her. But ⟨resolved⟩ to repair my omission as much as ⟨possible,⟩ I have encouraged her to come to ⟨this Country⟩ and intend, if it shall be ⟨in my po⟩wer to render the Evening of her days ⟨c⟩omfortable. But if it shall please God to put this out of my power and to inable you hereafter to be of ⟨s⟩ervice to her, I entreat you to d⟨o⟩ it and to treat ⟨h⟩er with the tenderness of a Sister.”

To which Elizabeth did, she followed her husband's word, even when her family and herself were struggling financially without Hamilton's or Schuyler's ( As Philip Schuyler died a bit after Hamilton had ) support. As Anne wrote to Elizabeth;

“Burlington December 20th

My dear Madam

Encouraged by your former kindness I write a line to inform you of my present most distressing situation and solicit your advice as to the means of relief suggested by my friends here most carefully entreating you to let me have a few lines as quickly as possible more especially as I am uncertain whether the packet which contained the power of attorney and some letters for the West Indies ever reached you. Indeed every effort that hitherto has been made to gain information of my business has failed and my present situation is distressing beyond expression.

I have never received a dollar since my arrival in America the sum I brought with me is long since expended - and I find that with the strictest frugatilty what I have received from my husband will support me till the first of February and no longer - in this distress I have been induced to listen to the account given by one of my friends of a Ladies Society from which I think I might perhaps obtain a small loan for I cannot entirely relinquish the hope of one day obtaining part of my property from Santa Cruz - in the meantime my distress is very great - Let me once more my dear Madam entreat of you to favor me with a few lines to tell me what you think of the plan I propose and whether you have received the packet I sent some time ago with the power of attorney if it has gone to the island and whether you have ever had any information from Doctor Stephens - I am afraid you will think I am very urgent but I hope you will excuse me when you consider my great distress - In the hope of being soon favored with line from you Believe me my

Okay hi I'm sorry bc this is probably a stupid question but you seen like you know a lot about Hal Jordan!! and I'm curious- what's so bad about the live action green lantern movie?

ok so. first of all, not a stupid question, this is a fun question because its shit on like. multiple different levels. its like genuinely not a good movie on like movie standards and its not a good or faithful gl story either. im probably going to have to put this under a cut so i don't clog up the dash lol.

if you care about spoilers and you plan on watching the movie: it's ugly and boring and they somehow fucked up the stupid bug parallax retcon even more than it already sucks. like its really ugly i can't stress that enough the cgi looks like gum. also the pacing is shit.

on like a movie level, it's genuinely not well made. like i said earlier the cgi looks like poo poo shittle and its a significant portion of the movie. like all the gl costumes are cgi and shit its not great. its just not fun to look at which is kinda... not great considering that its a fucking movie. also when hal turns into the green lantern his pupils turn like glow-in-the-dark star green. think teen wolf or jason in titans s3. its very disconcerting. actually wait hold on i live blogged this i have a screen shot i think.

gross. i went back and reread my liveblog and the audio scaling is also bad. i remember scenes being super loud and then they cut and carol is like whispering into the microphone.

also the pacing is like super odd? i watched this movie in chunks so i didnt get like the full effect but the pacing is really fucking slow. the climax of the movie is like a good almost two hours in when hal punches the big bad like once and then it flies into the sun. here is a description of that scene so you dont have to watch this movie: (Hal voice) aughhggg auuuuuuu (trying not to fly into the sun bc gravity) but wiat… >:J (let's go of airplane construct) (punches it once) houuughghhggh (falling into the sun noises) (hal passes out). at least the passing out part is like in character.

in terms of the plot. hoo boy. i? its hard to figure out where to start here because, like, the big bad is parallax. which, should mean the big bad is hal himself, but no, it's the stupid fucking retcon bug parallax. except its not. parallax in this movie is like a big ugly eldritch tentacle monster that slowly floats towards earth and then attacks earth and then gets punched (once) into the sun. genuinely im having a hard time trying to explain this movie because i was so bewildered by their choices the entire time.

it doesn't feel like a green lantern story. there's a weird B-plot where hector hammond gets like infected with parallax and amanda waller is there? i think?? there's just so many characters in this movie that should not be in hal's origin story. Sinestro is there btw i forgot sinestro is there! instead of ranting about order and chaos, he rants about fear and how you're not supposed to feel fear as a gl. this movie honestly feels like if the plot of gl was a flavor than this movie would be like watered down la croix. like something is there. but its so fucking faint. after taste of something that COULD be green lantern.

this movie sucks dude. like its not even bad enough to hate watch its just vaguely nauseating and boring. i need people to stop adapting parallax unless they've done their required reading and they're not using the retcon. geoffry my worst enemy this is your fault somehow i know it in my bones.

Mutiple ideas for today theme!

1 (setting aspect of the au), This is a near future au(base on Astroboy/megaman with influences of Zero Dawn Horizon) where cybernetic enchantment is god tier but very rare due to bunch of laws. Artificial humans(clone of people dna, literally like Zero Dawn Horizon if that make sense) is VERY ILLEGAL due to history and ethical reasons(Artificial humans need cybernetic enchantment cus they “born” with lot of defects, they still aged the same like normal humans tho).

1 (plot aspect of the au), Chariot and Croix was teen in love and Chariot died due to lab mistakes by Croix. As the guilts was worsening in her 20s, Croix decided to make an Artificial human out of Chariot’s dna in hope of “bringing Chariot back”. During the process of making Akko, Croix had an epiphany that she will never able to bring back the Chariot she know and love, she decided to mix the dna with other dna so that Akko(she is still like 80% Chariot) don’t has the burden of being a clone. Somehow, Akko end up having the same dream as Chariot of being a hero that protect other. Years later to the beginning of the au, Croix died of “mysterious reasons”, Diana ran away from home and somehow end up in the lab, Akko decided to go with Diana.

Sorry if the first au don’t make sense!

2, Akko is pretty much full deaf and her favorite “sound” vibrations is Diana’s heartbeat(they are dating and while it sound creepy but trust me it not please). They first met when Akko was having a emotional breakdown on her inability to play the piano properly(she has dream of making music) and Diana decided to help since she is a pro at piano.

3, this au is based off on a game called Haven. The game is about a couple trying to escape a shit society where everyone get assigned a partner to marry and has family with.

4, Akko is a popular music artist while Diana is a normal office lady and they are in hidden relationship.

5, Akko is a kitsune or a tanuki that decided to “haunt” Diana because her life is too “mono, miserable, and boring” for Akko liking. Akko has to teach Diana on how to live a healthy life.

6, Somewhat base on the movie “Roman Holiday”. This is based in 1950s, Akko is a member of Japanese Royal Family and decided to run away from her life during on her visit in Rome. Diana is a book author who was visiting Rome for materials. Unlike the movie, they stay together.

I rolled a really interesting ROS for the Croix family: What a way to make a living! Apparently Boniface Croix is a “side piece” of the richest sim in town... and as he’s a Noble, I figured it would have to be the Romance aspiration Queen. That’s not really what the ROS tells you to do, but I decided to just move the Queen in with him because I don’t want to play the Castle yet and the Queen could age a bit to better fit the ages of her teen offspring.

This ROS implies that the other sim covers Boniface’s needs, but since it’s the Queen that’s moving I feel like her needs should be met first of all. Also, Boniface is a Fortune sim and he’ll keep working, while also serving his Queen. Boniface is already the last sim in this house, safe for his 2 toddlers. His mom is “insane” in the nunnery, so nobody should care about the Queen visiting the Croix residence. Also, this house is right across the street from the Castle, so it probably makes sense that it’s a Queen’s lover’s apartment.

The Queen will never marry Boniface (she fears it). She already has 3 children who were made in CAS. I am assuming she probably is past her child bearing days, but we will see. If they had kids, they would only be considered “bastards”. They’d not be a part of the Royal Family. I didn’t even expect the Queen to have relationships, I only wanted her children to get married... Anyway, this will be the first interaction the Royal Family have with anyone, besides their Royal Steward. Maybe this connection can ensure one of Boniface’s children will get to marry into the Royal Family? But I wouldn’t do that, if Boniface had kids with her...

I didn’t make the Queen do anything to help the toddlers with their skills, but she was in the house with them, just loitering around when Boniface was at his daily job. Unfortunately, Boniface didn’t manage to teach his toddlers everything.

The toddlers started this round in terrible moods because some family member’s grave had been moved to the Graveyard the previous round. They managed to get out of aspiration failure fairly quickly, because they had wants to gain some skill points. Boniface managed to teach them both how to use the potty. His son learnt to talk and his daughter learnt to walk, but each only learnt 2/3 skills and they didn’t learn the nursery rhyme, sadly. They got some “negative” traits because of that. The kids are quite handy though, as they both got 7 Mechanical skill points from playing at the activity table. Tinkering is Blanche’s One True Hobby and her brother didn’t want to be any worse than his sister at getting skills.

Eudes is Brave, Excitable, and of Star Quality. He also got the extra Clumsy trait for not learning to walk. His hobby is Music&Dance.

Blanche is a Lucky Hydrophobe, and a Perfectionist. She also got an extra Shy trait for not learning to talk.

Blanche wanted a toy for her birthday, so I got the kids a toy oven, since their dad’s One True Hobby is Cuisine, and Blanche already has an activity table for getting Mechanical from. Eudes wanted a game. As they already had a chess table at home, I got them a mahjong table looking like cochon qui rit, which I know is not medieval, but it seems to be wooden, and it has cute pigs and I just couldn’t resist it...

The kids only went to school once this round, on Friday, as they aged up on Thursday evening. They had a bunch of snow fun-related wants after they had come back home. They also both wanted to learn to do homework properly, so their father helped them with that. I don’t think the kids feel neglected and they probably don’t realize this fancy looking lady is not their mother.

At the weekend Boniface was promoted, from Intern to Resident. He brought home 672$ + 1344$. He has terrible working hours now and I don’t think a medieval doctor would be working until after midnight.

They started with 16,898$ and they earned ~4410$. They dug up just a rock.

5000$ − rent.

441$ − tax.

=5450$ − to the Royal Family. The Royal Family have earned 158,200$ in this town so far.

441$ − tithe to the Church (rounded up to 450$). The Church has earned 25,500$ to date.

They ended up with 15,163$.

I was trying to find the Queen’s One True Hobby, but it turned out to be… nothing. I later realized none of her family members had the Predestined Hobby assigned somehow. I am just guessing that’s because I merged their household with the Royal Steward’s to move them into the Castle. I was surprised to find it. I might randomize their interests and perhaps hobbies (basing it slightly on what the Prima Guide suggests – it should be based on Personality points).

Cayetana’s grave was moved to the Church grounds after she had scared her husband and the Queen.

While researching my latest novel, The Invisible Woman, about Allied spy Virginia Hall, I made a surprising discovery. Nazis largely didn’t think women were as brave, intelligent, and even devious and vengeful as men. Because of this, women were often overlooked in the hunt for resistors and spies.

German propaganda at the time depicted a feminine ideal of woman as mother, preferably of four or more children, tending home quietly and with docility. How surprised Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie, “The Butcher of Lyon,” was to discover one of the most troublesome resistors in his region was not only a woman, but a woman with a prosthetic leg.

Barbie christened Virginia Hall “La Dame qui Boite (The Lady who Limps), Most Dangerous of Allied Spies” and put her face on wanted posters. Little did he know she was just one of many women operating in the shadows to destroy the Nazis—women whose stories would be unbelievable if they weren’t true.

Noor Inayat Kahn

Born in 1914 in Moscow to an American mother and an Indian father, Noor grew up across the globe, but mostly in France. She was a pacifist, a writer of children’s books, and a descendent of an 18th century Muslim ruler. After the fall of France, her family escaped to London. As a bilingual member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, she was recruited for the British clandestine service, the Special Operations Executive (SOE). The first female wireless operator (WO) sent to Occupied France she went in spite of knowing WOs had a life expectancy of six weeks behind enemy lines.

After her network was compromised, HQ urged Noor to return to London, but she was the last WO left standing in her region and she refused to abandon her post. She managed to continue for four months before being betrayed by a Frenchwoman. Noor was deported to a German prison, was tortured, and was ultimately executed at Dachau Concentration Camp. She was posthumously awarded France’s Croix de Guerre and Britain’s George Cross.

Josephine Baker

Born in 1906 in Missouri, Josephine Baker joined a vaudeville act in her teens, but racism in the US sent her to France, where segregation didn’t exist on the same scale as it did at home. Her fearless, erotic performances in Paris propelled her to massive stardom, and she became one of the wealthiest and most celebrated performers in Europe. When war broke out, she hid refugees and resistors in her chateau, and helped procure false papers for their escapes.

Her job as a performer allowed her to travel, and she gathered intelligence at Axis functions for the Allies, recording what she learned on sheet music with invisible ink. When the Nazis heard rumors of her activity and started to close in, she was evacuated to London. For her service, General de Gaulle awarded Baker the Rosette de la Résistance, the Croix de Guerre, and named her a Chevalier de Légion d’honneur.

Micheline Dumon

Born in Brussels in 1921, Micheline Dumon and her family were in the Belgian Resistance. They started The Comet Line, an escape and evasion network for downed Allied aviators that ran from Belgium, through France, and into Spain. When her parents and younger sister, Andrée, were arrested due to a betrayer, Micheline took over leadership, even escorting and guiding pilots over the Pyrenees on many trips.

She was arrested and questioned on multiple occasions, but because she looked so young—she could pass for a thirteen-year-old—and could call forth the tears to support her alleged age, she was released. Throughout the war, Micheline searched for the betrayer, and eventually helped in his capture. She personally escorted 250 aviators, and nearly 800 in total were saved on The Comet Line. After the war, Dumon was decorated with the George Medal and the US Medal of Freedom.

Violette Szabo

Born in France in 1921 to a French mother and a British father, Violette grew up between the two countries, with France as her first love. After escaping France with her little brother as it fell to the Nazis, she joined the rest of her family in London. On Bastille Day, 1940, Violette’s mother asked Violette to find and invite an exiled French soldier to dinner. That man was French Legionnaire Etienne Szabo, and he and Violette fell in love. Married after a five-week courtship, Violette became pregnant while Etienne was on leave, and gave birth to her daughter, Tania, in July of 1942. In October of ’42, Etienne was killed in the Battle of El Alamein in North Africa, having never set eyes on his little girl.

Fueled by a wish to serve and a need for vengeance, and as a bilingual sharpshooter and member of both the Land Army and the Auxiliary Territorial Service, Violette was recruited to join the SOE. She parachuted into Occupied France on two missions but was arrested shortly into the second, just after D-Day, after a shootout resulted in the death of at least one Nazi. She was imprisoned in France before deportation to Ravensbrück Concentration Camp in Germany and was executed there in February of 1945.

In 1947, King George himself pinned little Tania with Violette’s posthumous George Cross award, and Tania received her mother’s Croix de Guerre from the French Ambassador two years later.

Virginia Hall

I don’t want to reveal too much about Virginia Hall, only that if I’d made up a story about a woman with a prosthetic leg, wanted by the Gestapo, who escaped Nazi Occupied France over the snow-covered Pyrenees, only to return weeks before D-Day as a wireless operator, arming and training guerrilla fighters while hunting her first network’s betrayer, you wouldn’t believe it.

Kail Lowry Reveals Why She Chose “Valley” & “Verse” As Her Twins’ Names; Talks About the Other Names She Considered

Last week, Kail revealed the, um, “unique” names she and her boyfriend Elijah Scott chose for their recently born twins: Valley and Verse. The former ‘Teen Mom 2’ star got plenty of negative comments after she announced the names on Instagram, with many people calling her out for choosing “weird” or “random word” names for the babies.

This week, Kail revealed on TikTok why she chose the name Verse for her son, and Valley for her daughter. (As ‘Teen Mom’ fans know, Kail is a big fan of giving her kids “interesting” names. In addition to the twins, Kail is also the mother of sons Rio, Lux, Creed, Lincoln and Isaac.)

“Verse came from Iverson, which is the name that Lincoln recommended,” Kail said, adding that its a nod to basketball player Allen Iverson. “Obviously, it would be on his list because he’s a huge basketball fan.”

Kail stated that she chose “Valley” as an homage to Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, where she grew up.

“The Lehigh Valley really shaped a big part of who I am, and it’s a huge part of why I am where I am today, and so I really liked Valley,” Kail said. “I feel like it’s not super-different. It’s a name you can still grow with. It’s not too weird.”

Kail stated that she didn’t intentionally give both babies names beginning with “V.”

“It just happened,” she stated.

Kail also said that she won’t be using nicknames for the babies.

“I really don’t like the nickname Val [for Valley],” she said. “If she wants to go by Val when she’s older that will be her choice but I like that it’s just Valley and there’s no nickname for it.”

In another TikTok video posted this week, Kail revealed some of the names she had considered for the twins. Among the names Kail thought about giving her daughter were Willamina (which she stated she loved but “everyone vetoed it”); Sway (which Elijah hated it); and Scotlyn (which would combine the last part of “Kailyn” with the first part of Elijah’s last name, Scott.)

Kail said she considered the name “Golden” for her son (which just so happens to be the name of one of Nick Cannon‘s many sons). She also considered the name “Spade.”

Other names considered for her son were Croix/Kroy, Wells and Miller.

In the comment section of that post, Kail confirmed that the twins have the last name of “Lowry.”

Ryan Edwards & His Rehab Girlfriend Move Into New House Together

Ryan is taking his relationship with his rehab galpal, Amanda Conner, to the next level.

The ‘Teen Mom OG’ star has apparently moved into a new home with Amanda, who posted a few photos of her and Ryan’s new pad to Snapchat this week. As The Ashley told you, Ryan met Amanda while both were in the same rehab center last summer. (Ryan later transferred to the rehab’s halfway house, where Amanda also lived.)

“Our new home,” Amanda captioned one of the photos she posted.

In another photo posted by Amanda, Ryan can be seen installing a television set on the wall of the home.

Before the move, Ryan had reportedly been shacking up at Amanda’s place. (It is unknown how the legally challenged pair is paying for their new digs, as neither reportedly have jobs outside of Ryan’s gig at MTV.)

Amanda has stood by Ryan through all his ongoing legal issues, even appearing in the courtroom several time to show her support. She has also been outspoken about her dislike of Ryan’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Mackenzie. Last month, she blasted Mackenzie on social media.

“Ryan’s almost ex wife is a b*tch she don’t know who she is f**king with,” Amanda wrote. “She’s just mad that Ryan wants me now and don’t want her whiny baby a** now post that for her dumb a** to see !!

$25k Lawsuit Filed Against Cheyenne Floyd Dismissed; Plaintiff Claimed Cheyenne Crashed Into Her Car in 2021 to Avoid Gunman

A lawsuit filed in 2023 against Cheyenne Floyd has been dismissed, saving ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ star a cool $25k.

As The Ashley previously told you, Cheyenne was sued last summer for crashing into a car in August 2021 while trying to avoid an alleged gunman who had opened fire on her vehicle. Cheyenne was in the vehicle with her husband, Zach Davis, and children Ryder and Ace when the shooting occurred.

Cheyenne and Zach told ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ viewers in 2022 that their car was shot at 13 times and that they knew the person who pulled the trigger. Although she and her family managed to avoid the bullets, Cheyenne ended up crashing her car into another vehicle when swerving to avoid the gunman.

Cheyenne was later sued for the incident in June 2023 by the passengers in the car that she crashed into. The two plaintiffs accused Chey of motor vehicle property damage and personal injury. Both plaintiffs claimed to have suffered wage loss, loss of use of property, hospital and medical expenses, general damages, property damage, loss of earning capacity and other damages as a result of the collision.

The plaintiffs also filed a lawsuit against the alleged gunman at the time.

According to The Sun, the two plaintiffs requested on January 31 to dismiss the lawsuit against Cheyenne.

(The outlet was reportedly unable to confirm whether any criminal charges are pending against the alleged gunman.)

Cheyenne had requested in October to have the lawsuit against her dismissed, or to have a jury trial in the event that it was not dismissed. A non-jury trial had been set for December 4, 2024 but has since been vacated by the court.

Cory Wharton Reveals If He Plans to Do Another Season of ‘The Challenge’

Cory’s mug will continue to be all over MTV, if he has his way!

The ‘Teen Mom’ dad– who got his start on MTV shows like The Challenge and The Real World— took to Instagram Stories on Thursday to do a Q&A with his followers. During the Q&A session, someone asked Cory if he plans to continue appearing on ‘The Challenge.’

Although Cory appeared on last year’s ‘The Challenge: USA’ Season 2, he has not appeared on the regular ‘Challenge’ show on MTV since 2021’s “Spies, Lies & Allies” season. According to Cory, he’s ready and willing to do more seasons of the show, should he be asked.

“As long as they’re calling, I’m picking up, baby!” Cory said during his Q&A. “Count me in. As long as all my daughters are healthy and things are going well, then I’m out working. These bills ain’t going to pay themselves, so I got to do what I got to do!”

Cory said that, while he’s willing to appear on any ‘Challenge’ show, he hopes to get his mug on the OG version of the franchise.

“I definitely want to get back into the flagship of MTV’s ‘Challenge,'” he said. “I just did CBS‘ ‘Challenge USA’ Season 2 and got second place.

“It’s time to come back home baby, become that champ!” Cory added.
