stop having unfair expectations, both externally from other ppl and your own. if all your mind can do is doodle and scribble, instead of forcing yourself to work on a big or polished drawing, doodle and scribble away; if you dont feel like drawing a certain subject, draw whatever feels fun. art shouldnt be a chore. and if someone judges you for drawing whatever you want yoy should. ea t them

EXPERIMENT!!! experiment!!! experiment !! try new things!! new brushes or new effects or new textures or mediums, youd be surprised how many times i hated a work and after trying out new things on it, it actually turned out amazing and i gained more appreciation for it instead of scrapping it and throwing it in the reject pile

DONT compare yourself to anyone else. that one is hard to do, and it might take some time and mental effort to overcome, but once i stopped comparing myself to my favourite artists, and just enjoyed and consumed their art without any other feelings attached to them, i started seeing the same stuff i loved in their art in my OWN art without negatively comparing myself to them....

....which brings me to this point. seek artists you love and dont stop yourself from becoming inspired by them and their style. i wouldnt be here today if i didnt constantly gush over a cool subject, composition, design, colour choices, etc etc. every artstyle is unique and made from countless other artstyles which in turn are made from even more countless other artstyles and i find that beautiful <3

And surprisingly it's only then, following the direction of your tired hand, that Luke properly notices the state of his kitchen and immediately after, with tendrils of steam still curling around it, the exceptionally ugly, slightly burned cake sitting proudly enthroned atop the counter.

At the sight his eyes widen dumbfoundedly and involuntary you find your body tensing, waiting for an angry outbreak, as you listen closely to the way he draws in a deep breath.

You've been dreading this exact moment the whole day.

To be precise, since the minute you decided to do something nice to surprise him and failed spectacularly.

You had hoped to clean up the mess in time, but didn't succeed and now...

A loud laugh escapes Luke, though he quickly clamps his mouth shut when you shoot him a look.

For a while both of you fall silent.

Not that you said much to begin with.

"Don't laugh at me.", you finally mutter indignantly, the first sentence today not consisting of several curse words.

Still you are more than relieved he isn't cross with you.

You know there's no reason for you to have been this afraid but apparently it's how they say. Old habits die hard.

Slowly you get up from your spot on the floor and make an effort to clear away the aftermath of a battle lost despite your highest efforts.

Oh, where to start?, you wonder until, upon closer inspection and to your immense horror, you suddenly spot traces of baking ingredients across your face and in your hair.

With a barely concealed smile Luke watches you freeze and then hurriedly bustle around the kitchen as if nothing happened.

His heart feels like it's about to burst from how endearing he thinks you are.

From how much he loves you.

From how much he loves that monstrosity of a cake.

He knows you won't listen to him now, aren't capable to do so in your current state of mind, but he says it anyways just because he can.

Hello again, podcast side of Tumblr.

Entities Explained has officially come to a close with the final episode explaining the End. If you didn't know, Entities Explained has been a series where I, over the course of the last year and change, have explained each of the Fears from hit horror anthology podcast The Magnus Archives. This is the longest episode of the series, but I think it's totally worth watching.

Also, this video contains a major announcement: I am currently working on a MASSIVE video explaining The Magnus Archives in as much detail as I possibly can. Hopefully, it'll be a great refresher course before Protocol, and trying to get it done in a month won't absolutely destroy me.

For the art, I decided to draw the moment from Oliver Banks' statement in MAG 121: Far Away where he and the rest of the crew on a research vessel are destroyed by falling satellite pieces. I wanted the whole piece to be very dark and to have this slightly dusty feel to it, which I think I succeeded at.

I went back and forth a lot on what to dress Banks in, but, in the end (pun intended), I went with something a bit more casual, since he is mostly just hanging around a shipping vessel. If I ever drew him as The Coroner, I'd probably go with something more formal (full black suit with a wilted red flower on the lapel?), but this felt fitting. I also wanted to give him a rain coat because, hey, I imagine it gets pretty rainy out there.

Unfortunately, Banks' design doesn't get to shine through too much in this piece, since his back is to the audience but, for one, I think that's sort of fitting for his themes, and, two, it makes the composition, at least in my mind, a bit more interesting.

The falling satellite was something I experimented around with a lot. Using reference pictures of real satellites, I tried to get something that felt small, but also like it could do some serious damage. The motion blur was a late addition, but I can't say I don't like it.

The moon was always going to be an important part of this piece, but it was during the sketching phase that I realised I could make it into a bit of a stylised skull, which is just a subtle enough detail to be fun. The angular clouds were originally meant to cut through it, but I settled on it being in full view instead, which I think looks much better.

Finally, there's the veins themselves. I actually went with less of them than I originally planned because I think it felt less repetitive, but I'm really happy with the way they turned out. My one addition was adding a pop of colour to this very drab and grey piece (which could, now that I think about it, be seen as a parallel to the desaturated people in Banks' dreams) in the form of the red flowing through the veins. This is technically only described as happening when Banks saw Gertrude Robinson in his dreams, but I figured, if there was another time for it, it was in the moment that he was truly in the grasp of Terminus. I also, honestly, just think it looks better.

That wraps up Entities Explained, so I hope y'all have enjoyed this series while it lasted. I'm not going to stop Magnus content, as I have plenty of ideas already and I'm sure Protocol will only bring more, but I am interested to see where my content goes from here. But listen, hear me out- McHarrison play as Endymion and Selene in Greek mythology.

Paul as a shepherd boy and George as a moon god since he played the moon in their Pyramus and Thisbe skit. But I also feel like George works well as a dryad nymph💖

PREMISE IDEA:

I could just make a pretty scene where Paul falls asleep tired from a day in herding sheep. He decides to take a nap under a tree unaware that it was a nymph who watched over him while he worked everyday.

One day George the nymph was feeling bold , instead of watching him while hiding among the trees, he went near the fences to get to meet him.

But hesitated when Paul looked in his direction so George immediately transformed to a tree so he wouldn't be caught.

I was getting inspired with pastoral and romanticist literature and paintings. This is just a character sheet , and mostly headcanons for the story.

Well, not really a story, more like a premise idea with glimpses of scenarios and ambiguous plotline. I was thinking of it being a combination of A Midsummer Night's Dream, myths like Pomona / Vertumnus, and Endymion. I came upon two poems that suit these two:

"The Nymph's reply to the Shepherd" by Walter Raleigh

I gained an appreciation towards Pre-Raphaelite and Rococo art because I just love the quaint and idyllic atmosphere. The French and Dutch masters are my most favorite. The way the French portray the countryside are so pretty and romanticised. Whereas the Dutch focused on actual folk art showing the daily lives of farmers.

The Pre-Raphaelites make forestlife look magical also. Favorite painters are Pierre Auguste Renoir, Pierre Auguste Cot, Peter Paul Rubens, Moritz Stifter, Vigee Le Brun etc.

I'm hoping to really get into drawing more so I could started with coming up of the actual composition for these characters.

Not really happy how the flowers and foliage turned out for the nymph. I suck at drawing leaves and plants😭

Arms stretched over her head Niriol leaves the corner store, a few bags in one hand from the late night snack run. She'd forgotten to shop the night before and it's too close to dawn for her to go for a proper trip.

Hitting the button on her fob Niri doesn't pay much mind when she doesn't hear the thunk of a car unlocking, simply opening the driver side door and climbing in. She probably forgot to lock it is the only thought that crosses her mind as her bags are set into the footwell of the adjoining seat. Time to get home before she falls asleep in the parking lot.

Pulling out of the parking lot it's a short uneventful drive back to her home. The unfamiliar music playing from her sound system strikes her as having some very strange composition, what with the odd shifting noises interspersed with the rest of the instrumental. It was a new station she'd picked out on the way over to keep her awake and one she'll change once back home it seems.

Once the violets car is pulled into her garage she steps out, pulling the bags with her so she won't have to go to the other side. Normally she'd close the garage door, but this morning is meant to be mild and there's no real reason for it when the weather isn't bad. Better to air out the dank smell of the concrete box.

Stepping up to the side door of her home the faint metallic thunk behind her makes her turn. It takes a moment or two for her to realize what the noise is, her heart skipping a beat seeing the far back seat door of her car ajar, closing a moment after she notices.

Swallowing hard she glances down to her hands, currently fumbling quicker with her various keys to find the one that matches the door behind her. Staring out into the garage isn't helping, she can't tell just by feel....

She looks down to try and find the right key as quickly as possible after realizing telling by feel is futile. Immediately she regrets it, the scuffing of shoes running snapping her attention up just in time to see the individual clad in blue rushing for her, their hands slamming beside her head against the door. They're considerably taller than her 5'3" stature causing her to shrink down in reflex, fins flicking back as her nerves begin to set in further.

"Hi! Niriol! I know it's like, reaaally kind of Not Cool to spring up on creators like this but you're going to have to forgive me, okay? I just, I have this new idea you see. I think you could pull it off really well, and you've not been messaging me back on Chitter, so I figured I'd, like, come tell you in person!"

An idea....? Usually Niri would gladly listen to any suggestions unless they were unreasonable.... There's not anyone lately that she'd had to tell no to.... Unless someone else had filtered their messages entirely from her...

Oh no.

"You're..."

"WingedBinger, yeah! I've been trying to get you to reply back to me for like half a sweep at this point! You can understand why I'm here now, right? Our first conversation was great! You were so sweet, you really seemed lovely! I-I've come up with new ideas, though! It's not the same one you said no to before!"

"I'm... Sorry I don't... Do the kind of shoots you've mentioned..."

"But you could! I could be the photographer if that's the issue! You're like really pretty, you could make a lot of people happy by doing more! For your fans!"

Sure Niriol got the occasional person who would wish she would wear things that were more revealing, but this person... They'd been trying to pressure her into that sort of content for the better part of a sweep now, using various alt accounts to get around her initial block, always insisting that they'd be willing to take the pictures. One of her mods was assigned to filter through her messages on her main platforms, while others had them turned off to avoid the spam.

"I... Appreciate the feedback, but I'm not comfortable-"

"It's for your fans! You say you'd do anything for them, don't you? Come on, lets go inside, I can show you how cool it'll be!"

Niri's blood runs cold feeling the keys pulled from her hands and an arm wrap around her waist, pulling her flush into this strangers body. They're trying each key so casually to try and get into her home when something thunks into the frame of the door, a large rock having whizzed past the pair of them.

"Hey, cunt, I don't think the lady wants your attention. Do me a favor and fuck off."

The figure stalking her way through the garage door isn't entirely unfamiliar to Niriol, though the pair have never met in person. Gold and white heterochromia, short hair with straight bangs, platform boots that bring her to just over 6 feet tall; that's Kheron's friend.

"Let her go, or I'll find something to bash your skull in."

The cold confidence of Vayuya's voice sends a chill down Niri's spine and makes the blue blood pause, grip loosening just enough for her to make a break for it, running over to the tall woman's side. Vayu's hand is laid on Niri's head as she hides in an attempt to calm the terrified woman.

"Drop the keys, walk away, and don't look back."

"We were just ta-"

"You were breaking into her home. Don't think your shrill voice couldn't be heard outside. Get lost."

They fumble for an excuse, not finding one that she seems to even entertain, they chuck the keys at Vayu before running past her; despite the keys being thrown the gold blood takes the full impact of them to her face, barely flinching and making sure that she stays between the stranger and the terrified seadweller.

"Close the garage."

Vayu commands after the stranger clears the door, Niriol running over to the panel on the wall to do so with the gold blood close behind.

"I kept telling Kheron this would happen... You need to grow a backbone, damn it..."

She scoffs, waiting for the door to be fully closed before leaving Niri's side so she can pick up the discarded keys.

"Here. Get yourself inside and make sure everything else is locked. Windows included."

"Th... Thank you, Vayuya..."

".... Yeah."

"You should come in... The sun's nearly up."

She pauses, debating Niriol's offer and how much she dislikes being in other peoples spaces and not her own. Her place would be another 40 minute walk, and this girl could use someone who's perhaps a bit hyper paranoid to make sure her place is safe....

"Fine.... I'm gonna text Kheron, let him know what happened."

"... Do you have to?"

"Legally? No. Morally, also no, but I'm going to."

The violet blood nods not at all looking forward to the conversation that might follow Kheron finding out about all this, finally finding the right key to let the pair into her home. At least with Vayuya around Niri doubts that person will be back tonight.

I'M SO GLAD YOU ASKED!!!

In my rewrites Araphel did destroy Kul'zak's eye, it actually happened during that final fight against him as an attempt to stop Kul'zak from shattering his relic. It didn't work, but whatever fucked up and evil magic Araphel used to destroy Kul'zak's eye was something Irene couldn't heal. She tried to, but the wound always repelled her magic away and just didn't work at all.

After the failed attempts Enki whisked Kul'zak off to one of their vacation homes in Galruk and tried to heal him in a variety of different ways. The one that had the most promise and that is considered a core memory for both of them was a potion that Enki spent almost a year figuring out the components for, gathering said components, and then brewing. It was a long, arduous process, and multiple times Kul'zak told Enki that this wasn't necessary. He was perfectly content living without his eye, it was his idea after all, if this is the price to pay then it was worth it.

But Enki can't live with that. "What's the point of all this knowledge if I can't use it to help the people I love?" In the end it didn't work, but the attempt was greatly appreciated. Kul'zak did their best not to let this keep them down, instead turning to try and understand/love this new aspect of his appearance from an artistic sense. He had paintings commissioned of him that depicted him with this new eye in a beautiful way, hoping to show to his fellow wanderers and everyone who saw him that this change didn't make him any less beautiful or worthy of love than before. He and one of their muses even wrote a song about the "One Eyed Wanderer" to cement that this is who Kul'zak is now, and they can live with that.

Oh yeah Kul'zak is so nonbinary in my brain it's not even funny. Every time I think of Kul'zak I just think "You would use neopronouns". Probably star/starself would be their favorites bc Kul'zak is such an astronomer/astrology girl. It's actually how astronomy started as a science in the ancient days. Wanderers, merchants, sailors, farmers, normal people just looked at the stars a lot and noticed patterns in them, wrote those patterns down, and then theorized about them. I imagine stargazing is one of stars favorite pastimes, something they tried to do with each of the divine warriors at least once, including Xavier who wasn't even divine, just this simp who Kul'zak was fond of.

Kul'zak does have everyone's sun signs memorized and Enki is the only one who fully understands what they're saying. Menphina's in a bitchy mood one day and Kul'zak barks "Stop being such a Gemini," to which she yells back "Shove those stars up your ass!!" Irene understands it kind of because she asked Kul'zak what the hell they meant when star said she was "Being a total Sagittarius." Esmund and Araphel do not understand this weird star bull shit at all, but Kul'zak is having fun and they don't understand half of what he says anyways.

I think a lot of music in the MCD world was composed by Kul'zak. He learned how to play many instruments in his time, and possibly made a few of his own, probably some of the weirder ones that have fallen into obscurity. Some of his compositions are credited to different people, and some don't even have his name on it, but that really wouldn't bother them. As long as there is music in the places star once called home, Kul'zak is happy.

Unlike some of his peers, Kul'zak could honestly care less whether anyone remembers him in the future. His name could fall into complete obscurity, his relic could be left to rot somewhere where it will never be found, and all his findings could be attributed to someone else. As long as there are still wanderers, poets, musicians, bards, travelers, and those with free spirits who let themselves love the world they live in the way he did, they're happy. As long as there's still a world for them, he did his job right.

ty for question! there will be a lot of text below bc i like to talk about my art or myself😭 i'm an egocentric😭

8. What do you like most about your own work? It's hard to say, because i criticize myself a lot or treat my art like idkkk things i have to do while i'm still alive?? like creating (anything) is literally the meaning of my life so my work to me it's kinda like a "vacuum the apartment" item in to-do list. you vacuum your apartment, delist it, and then forget about it forever but if to think a little deeper it's hmm i like the style in which i’m drawing rn, though i’m still not really happy with it. but this whole styling thing is super hard to me after years of academic art 💀 if im super tired my hands automatically draw something realistic and this really upsets me bc i don't want to draw realistic things :( i don't post many original art here, but i love the sense of freedom it have, that i’ve worked very hard for and still working on it! like replacing "how to do it acceptably?" with "how i want it, how i feel it and how to do it honest" in my mind. honesty and sincerity are the most important things in my life, work, people etc. there are many problems with this now because of the russian laws and autocracy, which has long been more like totalitarianism. i have a hard time saying and doing what i think, constantly having to go around/come up with metaphors/not putting something out there at all, even changing ideas and plots. it disgusts me, i hope i can emigrate in the next two years or so, freedom is a key value for me and ok if to be more abstract, i like the fact that I draw/etc for myself, i.e i create something that i lack in this world. every time it gives me a feeling of satisfaction (though it doesn't last long) that "there! at last I see what i wanted, what i craved to see". i.e actually i work from "i don't like what there's rn, i want to see it differently, I want to do it other way". as if the store didn't have clothes in your size and and you'd have to sew your own

12. Show your favourite drawing from this year

i realize that this question implies one drawing, but idc and will show several instead of just one :^) the first drawing that comes to mind is this! well it's not exactly a drawing ofc but still. it's one of 54 illustrations for the play "the shadow". i love this work very much (text here says "your country is like every country in the world" in different languages, and on the color block the phrase is "it's all so mixed up", it's quotes from the play)

and three more illustrations for the same play! best part of this year in terms of art is probably that i finally got into lettering. although it's not lettering in the classic sense here, like these lettering aren't meant to be readable, i just think the letters are very pretty:^)

and the last one. this fanart turned out to be very important for me! i drew it some time after my diploma and finally for the first time in a long time allowed myself to loosen up and not think about what others will think. thanks to this art i realized in which style i wanna work:^)

17. What inspires you?

almost anything tbh. movies, books, theater, songs, science, news, colors, clothes, people, whatever in personal projects, it's usually a reflection on current events/experiences talking to people and their stories inspire me a lot on a more simple level: music/songs. i believe that any visual composition is music (even Kandinsky wrote about it and he himself considered his abstract works as painted music). So rhythm, intonation in songs and other things inspire me af. i always make playlists for every big project im working. it's not even about the lyrics of the songs, it's about the vibe/mood they give. (i had an exhibition this summer with illustrations for "the shadow" and like i put a disco projector there and made a 6 hours playlist 😭 bc all the illustration were based on music (and i hate exhibition snobbery, pseudo-intellectualism, and in general when people consider themselves superior to others. i also think that looking at pictures without music is boring) aaaaand i'm also inspired by the words themselves? (you can notice in the pictures above, haha). sometimes by the meaning they carry, sometimes just by the way they look. and the letters inspire me bc that, again, is music to me. the rhythm, the plasticity, the contrast. i just love letters ahahh

  Ok since you drew Gai incredibly soft i couldn't take my eyes from your drawings. But today was the last bit of me holding myself back from showering you with praise. The way you draw the hands is beautiful, and oh you've created a amazing face drawing style for yourself. The facial expressions you drew really reflect the emotions of the characters very well. Not to mention the bodies. Ok... Yeah well, no need to give you headache with my talking-

But please let me ask. Did you practice drawing each body part individually, or did you just go over your favorite characters and let your drawing style settle on its own? I ask this because every time I take a break from drawing, the way I draw the characters' faces changes and I can't get the consistency I want. The same goes for the body and hands, how many hands did you have to draw to be able to draw hands that soft and good :')

  And lastly, can I ask which brush you used in PS? Yes, I'm sorry to bother you with my questions, but as I said, I couldn't stop myself after seeing your sketch and lineart comparison today.

Disclaimer: I use a translator, so if there are errors in the text, please excuse me in advance! I'm glad to hear praise in any form, and if you really want to please me with it - don't hold back, haha! I am very pleased that you like my style and you ask questions - I will be happy to answer them! In fact, I always drew a character, not a separate body part. Once my great-grandfather told me that hands and even eyes, apart from the whole body, are able to convey the emotions of a character better than words, and this left its imprint in my subconscious. I always drew the way I wanted myself, how I felt the character and felt the slightest changes in the perception of the drawing when I changed the positions of my hands or slightly covered the eyes of the character in the drawing. This is a kind of magic that arises through experience and work. But I must be really crazy if I haven't practiced drawing my hands separately from my body, haha! Only if the composition and the idea required it. Even in manga, my favorite things to draw are hands, hair, and eyes. And to be honest, I had to draw A LOT OF hands. And it also seems to me that you should not worry that your hands or face did not turn out as you expected from yourself. Drawing is still hard work and you know it perfectly well, but you probably see progress in your abilities even after so much time without a conditional pencil in your hands. I'm going to sound corny, but you can definitely do it if you just enjoy drawing and practice a lot. Lee taught us not to give up haha! You will definitely succeed! And yes, this is the most common brush in PS, I originally had it among the main brushes after downloading the program itself. It's hard for me to say the exact name, because I have a program with Russian, but the closest brush in appearance is KYLE Ultimate - Mr. natural or Rough Inker 3 I will be glad if I have the courage to answer your questions and you will ask more! just because i feel like it:

some random thoughts about the art i made for ironstrange week + the very rough thumbnails for each piece (putting this under the read more so this doesn't take up too much space bc this is a Very long post)

day 1 - red/wrath

first fanart for this fandom! there are a few things i don't like about this piece (questionable anatomy, use of values could be improved, + stephen's hair makes him look like a wet cat /hj) but i do like the lighting and the theme of red spider lilies. i've always wanted to draw them and i love their symbolism of death and final goodbyes—feels very fitting for these goofs :b

i started working on this a good amount of time in advance, and i'm glad i did—this was one of the only pieces i used a painterly style for despite it being my preferred style; it takes me a lot longer than lineart + color, so i didn't get the chance to use it again throughout the event (with the exception of day 6)

day 2 - nervous/orange

i struggled with the anatomy on this one—i don't draw back views often (or, at all really) so the first panel was pure pain. the second panel wasn't much better; it took several attempts to pose the hand in a way that looked somewhat natural. pretty pleased with how this turned out all things considered, though! my only qualm with this is the rushed shading, but that's what happens when you're a slow artist on a time constraint :,)

day 3 - yellow/cheerful

i think this may be one of my favorites from this event. i'm very very happy with the lighting and overall atmosphere of the piece :)

i realize now that i used flowers as a theme for every color prompt—anyways, like i said in the tags of the original post for this, i very loosely referenced yellow primrose (symbol of happiness, warmth, & love, conventionally given to those in long-term relationships or someone who has always been there for you through thick and thin)

day 4 - intrigued/green

i ended up liking this better than i expected to! i had to play around a lot with the lighting/color scheme before i was satisfied with it, though that's on me for not having much of a plan for it beforehand (with most pieces, i already have an idea of the color scheme when i start working on them). not much else to say about this one except surgeon stephen my beloved <3

day 5 - blue/serene

this was the first time i've properly drawn a kiss and holy hell how do ship artists do it. that shit is so difficult. i struggled a lot with the anatomy and ended up changing the poses a bit; i also flipped the composition because 1. it looked slightly better that way and 2. i could include tony's ring <3

and yes stephen's mug says 'cunt' (with the handle being painted in black to form the 'c'—very much inspired by jacksepticeye's mug); for tony's i had to search for funny mug designs lmfao

i was going for a very domestic/warm atmosphere, which i think was more or less accomplished, so i'm pretty happy with this overall :)

also, not really pertinent but i was listening to sweater weather on loop while drawing this so. make of that what you will.

day 6 - grief/indigo

ah, this piece. definitely my favorite of the 7, love how this turned out despite ripping my own heart out a bit while making it :,) listening to hyacinthus on repeat didn't help

my initial idea for this—the thumbnail in the top left—was going to be one of them bleeding out in the other's arms, but i had another idea that i felt more drawn to so i chose that instead (this was a very last minute change so the thumbnail is pretty much just a couple of stick figures pfft).

i decided to go back to the painterly style since it felt more fitting for this & i'm glad i did, although it was a little rushed towards the end when i was adding in the final details (the butterflies are pretty much just lasso tool + glow layer). this was also my first time drawing stephen's robes and. man that was a pain to figure out. get a simpler outfit stephen.

day 7 - purple/disdain

had to end the event on a happy note! this was very rushed but i still like how it looks, though the bg petals are a bit janky.

the prompt 'purple' immediately made me think of violets, which were used as gifts for newlyweds so. here we are (they also happen to be symbolic of faith, mystical awareness, and spiritual passion—pretty fitting for our favorite wizard)

i didn't dedicate as much time i should've to actually making the violets look like violets instead of some generic flower but again, slow artist under time constraint. i did spend a lot of time with the expressions in this one though! i really wanted to convey a sense of pure joy and love, and i'm very happy with the result in that regard :)

something that i noticed was that it had become a lot easier for me to draw these two by this point. suppose it makes sense considering i'd literally been drawing them nonstop for 2 weeks lmao, but it was still pretty cool to see how quickly i managed to finish a sketch i was happy with, compared to when i was working on the first few days (good lord was it difficult drawing stephen in the first piece, especially at that angle)

anyway, prepare to see more of them in the near future because the brainrot is far from over. if i am this attached to them without having seen the majority of marvel movies featuring them (i'd literally only watched ds1 until yesterday when i watched im1—yes i started shipping them without knowing who tony was, i don't know how either), i think i'd be a puddle by the time i catch up on everything :D

1. Do you post on AO3? If so, how many works do you have on AO3? If not, where do you post?

I do post on AO3 as Suzy_Queue. I have two art galleries there, one for general art and one for Kinktober 2022.

2. What is your total art count?

If you count art done for other people's stories, headers for my own stories, and Gallacrafts pieces, it's around 150.

Yes! Although I'm not the fastest at it.

5. What is your current fandom, and what was the first fandom you drew for?

Currently, it's Gallavich all the way. The first fandom I remember drawing for was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, making my own comics. (they were 7th-grade-girl bad).

6. Have you ever received hate on any art?

Nope, people are very supportive, even on pieces that I know aren't that great.

7. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t drawn for yet but want to?

I can't really think of any.

8. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

The one that has lived in my brain for the longest part of my life is Han/Leia.

9. Do you draw outside of fandom?

Yeah! I was an art major in college. I've been a professional artist for 20 years and have created art for book covers, movie posters, album covers, logos. I go to figure drawing sessions at a local art school and am in a nature journaling group. I've displayed my horror art at conventions around the country.

10. What’s the an art piece you’ve drawn that came out completely differently than you expected?

This was the first piece I ever drew on a tablet with a pressure-sensitive pen. It was an experiment to learn the tools. I had no idea how it would look, and it turned out all right.

11. Do you draw smut?

Yep! There's some smut in this gallery.

12. Have you ever had any of your art stolen or copied?

Not that I know of.

13. Have you ever collaborated on a piece?

I've created art for stories working with the author, but I've never co-drawn a piece of art. Unless you count playing Exquisite Corpse with my children.

14. What’s an idea you have that you have yet to draw?

Oh, I have a lot. The one I think about most is a picture of Ian and Mickey in a lineup at jail, looking disheveled, hung over, and completely in love.

15. What are your drawing strengths?

I like my compositions a lot, the flow of items throughout the picture. I feel like I'm good at drawing what I see in a realistic way, whether it's a photo or real life.

16. What are your drawing weaknesses?

Drawing from memory/imagination. I have to have reference photos of what I'm doing or I go off the rails. I need to develop more trust in my own style and lean into weird proportions and my own skewed vision.

17. What’s your favorite art piece you’ve drawn?

I'm quite partial to this book cover art I did. It's spray paint, pastel, and acrylic. It's about 4 feet tall.

18. What is one thing you’d like to tell people about your art that they might not know?

Just because I've been doing it for a while doesn't mean I'm not still learning every day.

19. What inspires or motivates you to create for fandom?

I have a lot of emotional energy churning below the surface. Creating art and fics helps get it out. It's a much more positive outlet than letting it brew.

20. And finally, can you describe your process a little? Do you have a favorite place to draw? Do you play something in the background? Do you do research or just go for it? Give us a little insight.

I have a basement office where I write and draw. I bought a new table this year which I absolutely love. I do most of my creative work between 9-11 pm after the rest of my family has gone to bed. I do love music and play it a lot while I draw.

I research a ton. I spend a lot of time making photo compositions for every piece I draw, which are collages of body parts and other images.

67. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?

I don't mind to be honest - wherever inspiration strikes, I'm happy to take it. But the idea has to come to me - I had a mini freakout when I did last year's Secret Santa and didn't think I'd be able to come up with anything that my recipient was looking for. So yeah - I can't write on demand.

71. When it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, etc.?

I have a spreadsheet! At a minimum it's a scene name and word count, and then I use that to check my chapter compositions and move things around if I need to. For Brother Dearest I also worked out how many weeks & months had passed between key events, how old they all were, what month it was etc. Character development I think about but don't really write down - I just try to make sure I've thought about what the main characters want, what's standing in their way, how they change from the beginning to the end of the story etc.

'NEVERMORE' we all knew would come out on top. this is THE brainworm. the piece de resistance. the swansong except i'm not quitting or dying when it's done. hopefully. i haven't told anyone but i'm very aware this could blow out to 200 or 300k if i finish it, and it's. i just love it. unfettered creativity etc. Nevermore is based on the stray kids cinematic universe, the music videos and performances that all connect to tell a story, but even if you don't know stray kids, i think you can read it - it's about a group of boys (a band? a group of musicians?) stumbling into another world that is made of music and controlled by a strict government, and their journey back home to their own time and place, and the things that are left in their wake. it's huge and it's long and it's the first time i've reached 70k and still felt like i have a hand on all the plot lines without leaving plot holes in my wake.

'The Gone And The Gathered' is a zombies fic set in an au where zombietown is treated as an internment camp by Seabrook, also based on ghettos/concentration camps from WW2. Zombies are used to run the power plant and supply electricity and water to Seabrook and have never left the town; werewolves are known wild entities, and some have been captured as they are Useful in maintenance in the power plant. The story follows teenaged Wanda and Zoey through a series of discoveries about their world and the ripple effect this has on Zombietown and the world beyond the walls that they have never seen - and it's about staying quiet and accepting your lot in life, or daring to strike out and create a better future for yourself and your people, even if it might mean sacrificing yourself.

'Turn Your Back On Mother Nature' is a MCU Eternals fic, focused on Druig and Makkari. It contains five canon compliant scenes that, given my own director's cut, I would have added to the movie - not meant to change anything, but just meant to complement the plot and the character's own individual storylines and give more depth and meaning. I feel like I really excel at working within the boundaries given by a certain media and it's one of the main things that keeps me coming back to the challenge of writing fanfiction, and I'm so proud of the job that I did on this - it's well written, my character work really stands out, and I thought the scenes really worked to capture each idea I was trying to express. mwah good job roo.

'To Go Beyond Your Borders' is my pokemon comfort fic. It follows Angie, the champion of Sinnoh but also a disgraced public figure, and a journey of self-discovery as she runs away to Galar to compete in the Gym Challenge there. I started writing this in my depression/anxiety era, and in a lot of roundabout ways a lot of the themes/Angie's struggles are based on challenges I've faced in the last few years, so this fic is. Really cool, and something I keep coming back to as I really like the story I built for it. If more mature pokemon journeys is something you're interested in, this is the fic for you - and the composition of it, with social media interlaced with traditional storytelling, is so fun, I love doing it and coming up with the different bits and where they'll make the most impact. This is just so fun to work on and more people should read it so I make it more of a priority cause seeing this finished one day is going to make me so happy.

'if only we knew (the things we know)' and it's sequel, 'and the chasm grows', two of my long zombies stand-alones, are the fics i always think of first when asked what writing I'm most proud of. The themes are big - death, and knowing that you're going to die soon (cancer related themes, though this isn't about cancer), and facing down the idea of genocide of your entire race. They're very dark, as they have to be, and they're very hopeless, and whenever the odd reader comes along they tell me that they cried, and yet I think I managed to find a little bit of warmth in each, the strings of community and family and comfort that hold on until the very end. I specifically recommend the final scene of chasms, which i wrote in a blinding flash of inspiration and will never be able to recreate - it sticks with me even now, and while I can't remember certain other scenes from these fics, I will never forget that ending, and the way it made me as the writer feel when i finished and looked back on it.

Hello! Thank you so much for your kind words 🌸 I'm glad you liked the Mando edit, I'm very happy with how it turned out too!

Unfortunately I have no idea whether there are tutorials on this kind of edits out there because I have kind of taught myself how to do them? It was a lot of try and error and figuring out stuff by messing around with different settings in different apps until I managed it. I've answered in this ask what kind of apps I use if you're interested in that!

As for my process it's very loose but it basically goes: having vague idea → looking for pictures that would work as a silhouette → cut out picture (aka transparent background) → make the cutout dark → look for colour palettes that would fit and select the colours → make a nice (gradient) background → mess around with composition of different elements → filter magic

As for how I do things this is the best thing I can offer:

The most difficult part here is to find an Image that also resembles the person in mono colour too (Hoods and capes can look nice but mostly just make the person shapeless).

I use PhotoRoom for this entire process of cutting out the picture because it's free and I don't want to pay a hundred bucks a year to do it on Canva

Just select a picture and let the program do its work then select the transparent background option

To reduce the lightness you have to select adjust, then tap on brightness and drag the bar to - 100 (you can try +100 if you want a white version but that doesn't always work)

An example in form of Ahsoka:

If the picture doesn't turn out the way you want it to you can edit the cutout in the app too!

Once done you'll have to remove the watermark PhotoRoom puts on the bottom right of the cutout but that's not the most difficult part

After this I go over to Canva and select the kind of edit I wanna make (there's offers like Poster or Story which I most commonly go with) and put the cutout image in there.

I then go to adjust → blur and drag the bar as far into negative as needed to make the image look sharper

The (gradient) background and composition I do on Canva as well and it may look difficult because there's so much in this app that is premium content but I promise I only use the free version and while I often have to get creative to realise my idea it's simply part of the process.

You'll have to do some digging until you find what you want, the search bar us your best friend. I can't really give you any better advice here because that's the real creative process and everyone does it differently.

It definitely helps to focus on the elements section (especially shapes and whatever else it can offer you in terms of graphics). Tip: Chose the ones where you can change the colours! Especially when you're working with a colour palette (something I definitely recommend looking for!)

Once I have assembled the picture in a way I like and it has the right colours and everything I go over to either PicsArt or InCollage for some filter magic (this is completely optional tho!)

I have no idea how helpful this was but I hope you could make sense of it somehow :) and good luck getting back into editing! It can be frustrating sometimes but also a lot of fun!

This morning I wiped down my sink, mirror, and toilet. My bathroom is pretty clean overall now. I took a nice long shower where I sat and enjoyed the hot water for a bit. For breakfast I made tuna spaghetti with a pineapple cup. After eating I tasted the bone broth I left on overnight and it definitely was more brothy but I did not like the taste much. It didn't smell appealing either and I had been whiffing it all day yesterday and this morning so I was very unappetized by it. I turned the crockpot off and planned on throwing it out later. Right before stream I remembered that I needed drinks from the store so mom took me immediately. It means I didn't get time to prepare myself for conversation starting with a stranger in person so I didn't do that this time. I did talk to mom though in a more open way than usual so that counts for something.

For work I warmed up with bats which as usual were interesting to draw in their own way. They also reinforced the idea that most animals really do come in only 2 or 3 poses. I finished the Venus commission today and a couple YCHs someone bought. I was feeling frisky on stream and had the idea to take a small hit of my pen so that I could do something fun after I was done working. I ended a little early since I didn't have anything else to do. I had a pretty good time doing my thing and I had a little help. For lunch I made a dinty moore beef stew with some little pasta added. I joined TK and friends while eating and watched them play Totally Accurate Battlegrounds. I didn't talk much, I was still a teensy bit high and was just chilling.

During my afternoon hours I finished a drawing of Pipp based on an idea request I got. It doesn't seem to have gotten great reception and I wasn't totally happy with how it came out either. I think for future requests I'm going to tone back the quality in favor of experimenting with capturing the raw energy of the idea more. Better composition/posing and all that. After that I left the VC and worked on the Mr Bean world a bit. I mostly starting texturing everything and was very slow because I was pretty done for the day. But what matters is that I did it.

When everything was done I took a little time to just watch a stream I enjoyed. I also did a little bit of video editing/organizing. I put together simple graphs for the excel sheet DS and I have for tracking our puzzle statistics. Then I had Twitch open and played horse game for a little bit. When DS was free she showed me how she airbrushed lips and nostrils onto her fursuit head which came out good. We watched the Nature and Numb episodes of Moral Orel which were both VERY heavy, much more than I imagined they'd be. I feel like I should have felt more uncomfortable with the drunk father situation really hitting home but I either got over that for real, suppress it very deeply, or just wasn't in the mood today. I'd like to believe I've made my peace with it. I already had my dad-hating phase and have since forgiven him for his past actions. The episodes also sparked religious conversation and a story of DS's degrading grandmother which I remember hearing before.

In bed we smoked puzzles and I grinded levels in KH2. We talked a lot about self worth and body image and being homies. I love conversations like that, ones that happen between people connecting over the struggles of life. And I love showing my support the best way I can because of how important other's support has been to me and my own improvement.

Weeks 8 & 9

These past couple of weeks have been spent finalizing the character logo project.

I'm very happy with how my logos turned out! I struggled with this project but I'm happy to be satisfied with my product in the end.

One small thing I'm not quite satisfied with is that I feel like my two logos are not entirely cohesive. Saint Germain's logo incorporates more negative space and a more dynamic composition due to the tilt of the hourglass. Alucard's logo is more static in comparison and does not utilize negative space (in the colored version). I think both stand nicely on their own and they don't clash, but if I had more time perhaps I could experiment with way to make them more cohesive.

I really like both of Saint Germain's versions– I think it translates well to black & white and color. With Alucard's, I'm not as convinced on the one with color. I think I may go in and play around with different colors before I submit these in my portfolio. Not only did the gold color translate as "booger green" on the classroom's monitor, but I also feel like the colors don't have a strong enough contrast with the black sword. Or perhaps the dark blue could be lightened a bit so it blends in more with the moon and doesn't clash with the darkness of the sword, since it creates a sort of imbalance with the fully light sun (although, thematically speaking, the moon is his dark, vampire side...). I had tried making the sword white, but that didn't feel right either. I think if I spend some extra time on the colors I can figure out something I like better.

Another random note, but I feel like the Saint Germain font does not translate well when it is shrunk down. When I picked it, I liked that it was sleek but also adventurous. If you zoom in you can see it has a slight crumbled effect (I think it's easiest to see on the "G"). But when it's zoomed out, that doesn't translate as well. I still like it, but that was a little disappointing.

Lastly, another random note, but I had a random idea that I could make the sand in the hourglass into the shape of a "g" for Germain (think: the lowercase "g" in Times New Roman"). I think that would be a fun idea to implement, but I leaned more towards making the sand fall in a "realistic" way.
