One of my favorite things about rotj Luke is how morbid he is. We don’t talk about it enough. He walks up to Jabba’s palace in Vader’s best cloak and not-so-subtly threatens Jabba with death, which Leia delivers. When Luke says goodbye to Leia, thinking that he’s leaving to die, he tells her she’s the only hope for the Alliance. To Palpatine, he says “You’re gravely mistaken,” and, “Soon I’ll be dead, and you with me.”

Favorite still from Return of the Jedi, just Han sitting on the railing all tired and dejected while Leia puts a comforting hand on his shoulder.

Why did I just realize that Anakin did destroy the Sith, eventually. In episode 6 (Return of the Jedi), it was Anakin that killed Palpatine, not Luke. And in the process, he killed Darth Vader as well (I don't mean physically – though that happened too – I mean he killed the Sith inside of himself). And ironically, it's because of his attachment to Luke that he turned from the dark side, he had to save his son. Anakin was the Chosen One afterall.

(We're ignoring the sequels right now, especially episode 9 (Rise of Skywalker). They mess everything up. Anakin killed Palpatine, end of story.)
