Preface: I am an 18+ blog, so minors don’t interact and keep scrolling
I know I was gonna do notes for the new Percy Jackson book, but in true Percy Jackson ADHD fashion, I stopped like a third of the way in bc it started feeling like a chore. And now I’m making this post days after finishing it 🤷🏻
But congratulations Rick Riordan on once again attracting his target reader audience
It was really good tho. If I wasn’t so bone tired lately, I would’ve finished it two days, but it took me like four lol. So if you have problems focusing on reading for long periods of time, this book is phenomenal (granted, I read oodles of college level books last year for my degree so middle grade is like a walk in the park but…my point still stands). This book is lower stakes than the original series, but if you love Percy as much as I do, this is great 😅😅 GIVE THAT BOY A BREAK
I’ll post a few spoilers below if you’re curious and nosey on what happens but don’t want to read the book. I encourage you to look up the general synopsis tho bc I’m not gonna write about that. This is gonna be my highlights.
Poseidon is a crocs and socks guy and I couldn’t be more happy. This is my biggest highlight. I’m not joking. Like of course he is. He’s also building an infinity pool in his underwater summer getaway which is just great. He’s trying to build a relationship ship with Percy so that’s great. Percy seems to be chill with that but he knows Poseidon’s gotta work for it.
Zeus being the reason why Percy’s gotta get 3 letters of recommendation. And why his first and only kite as a kid was struck down 😭😭😭
The existence of the restaurant Himbo Juice in this book surely means that Rick is aware of the femboy Hooters meme. Like I feel it in my nuggets
Percy and Annabeth sure are Percabeth-ing in this book and it gives me life. Like I can’t pinpoint an exact moment bc it’s everywhere.
I looooooove how Ganymede is painted as a victim of grooming in this book. Bc of course. And I looooove how Iris sympathizes with him bc she understands his situation and knows how he got an even worse deal than she did in his position. It’s also interesting how Riordan hops around this within the confines of middle grade fiction.
Also Ganymede feeling obligated to fill and top off everyone’s cups (demigod or not) was a nice touch
Iris has a demigod child that only loves monochrome and it’s killing her. Amazing
Sally Jackson is living her best life with Paul and is now a published author. AND SHE’S PREGNANT 😆😆😆😆😆😆 AND PERCY IS EXCITED TO BE A BIG BROTHER 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 oh I love it. Honestly, I could have a book just on that with him doing big brother babysitting.
Hebe has a Chuck E Cheese establishment called Hebe Jeebies where people can become younger as they play games and eat cardboard pizza. And she has killer chickens that will eat your flesh and conduct chicken fights. ALSO THE MAIN CUSTOMERS BEING BOOMERS BC THEY CANT GROW UP IS HILARIOUS. Burn.
When the trio was turned 8 temporarily, Percy was so anxious bc childhood trauma obvi. But Percy going “I don’t want to go through growing up again. I won’t. I’m so scared,” was owie.
In fact, Percy being so anxious he pressure washed (pressure bombed?) a cave is relatable. If every time I had a panic attack I became a pressure washer, my neighborhood street would be so clean.
The god of old age (whose name escapes me) being the one who stole the chalice made a lot of sense. AND PERCY EMBRACED HIM INSTEAD OF FIGHTING HIM BC HE WILL BE FIGHTING OLD AGE HIS WHOLE LIFE AND HE WANTS TO GROW OLD😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I was tearing up. I think this was really targeted toward the young adult/approaching middle age audience. Damn you Riordan
Percy broke into Zeus’ chamber in Olympus to return the chalice and the only god to notice him was Athena!!!!!! They literally went “👁️👄👁️ 👀” She’s more tolerant of Percy being Athena’s boyfriend now!!! It’s gettin serious
Hmmmmmmmm

what’s a god to a nonbeliever? by Almas
It’s not that he’s “hung up on The Menace” as Dionysus so delicately put it. It’s just that it’s a bad idea. Awful, really. Percy Jackson’s got off-limits stamped across his pretty little forehead. If Zeus had sent Dionysus to that demigod camp over a nymph, then Poseidon would certainly toss him into Tartarus if he went near his son.

To Make a Legend by WardofWinters (QoLife)
Percy was having a normal day at the beach, until he decided to try to waterbend like Katara from his favorite show.Problem is, he succeeds. Now he has to figure out how to waterbend, and keep the normal people from finding out they have a waterbender in their midst.Finding out he's actually a child of Poseidon will probably explain a few things. The order of things are changing. Old rules are shifting, old gods awakening. Percy Jackson must come to terms with his own mortality, or rather, the lack of it.

Rhea thought the fight was over when she handed Luke that blade. The war she fought for others was over. She was wrong. Now a thousand miles and a thousand years from home, all alone with just the ghost of a curse to accompany her in her travels, she will only fight for the wars she chooses.
"I promise." It tastes like a lie, but I know I’ll do my best to fulfill it. How am I to make the gods listen when they don’t even know who I am?
Hold Tight and Pretend It’s a Plan by Rynna_Aurelia
Olympus has fallen. The second Gigantomachy has ended far differently than the first, and in Gaea's triumph, the world has been torn apart. But the Fates have seen what ends their failed meddling brought Western Civilization, look on at the dead—and undo what should never have happened the only way they possibly can. Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon, is returned to his twelve-year-old self, memories intact and determined to save everyone he can. But he is not alone. The Moirai underestimated the strength of the Lord of Time when stealing his power, and there is something about this particular demigod brat that intrigues him. . .
Perseus Jackson came roaring to life with a violent gasp, green eyes wild. After a moment of panicked flailing and struggling to breathe, his fear-filled gaze settled upon a girl with blonde hair and stormy grey eyes, her face stern and unimpressed.
 "You drool in your sleep."
Trading Tomorrow by Darkmagyk, loosingletters
Percy Jackson arrives at Camp Half-Blood bruised and bleeding, with the knowledge that he's the son of a god and his mother is dead. His little display with the Minotaur has caught the attention of the camp. But he’s not sure it is good attention, yet. Only the Hermes Cabin's not-quite Co-counselor Theseus, ‘call me Theo,’ doesn't treat him like a fascinating zoo exhibit. Which would be a relief, except he looks exactly like Percy: same green eyes, same trouble making smile, same black hair. The only differences are the fact that Theo is six years older, covered in battle scars, and the black tattoo on his arm. A trident and the letters SPQR.
Theo is eighteen, powerful, and unclaimed. And his resemblance to Percy could set a dangerous precedent.

“I just don’t get it,” he huffs to Will as they put up holiday decorations in the unusually quiet infirmary, “they talk to me like I’m supposed to know stuff. Like I’m the new Percy or something.” Nico expects Will to laugh at this, shrug off his concerns as unfounded and tell him he’s being over-dramatic like usual. He is wrong.
“Okay, babe, don’t take this the wrong way. But, you kind of are the new Percy.”
___ Based on a tumblr post I made about Nico being the obvious choice as Camp Half-Blood's unofficial leader when Percy leaves for college. (only no one bothers to tell Nico that)

An old panic gripped me—the breathless fear of being forgotten, being lost. Would anyone remember me when I was gone? Would someone think to lay a flower down on my grave and say some fond nothings like, “Was a pretty cool guy, that Lester,” while wiping off a single dramatic tear rolling down their cheek? Oh, who was I kidding. So what if no one remembered? There wasn’t much I was proud to be remembered by anyway.
After defeating Python and bringing down Nero, Phoebus Apollo reclaims his godhood. He is glorious once more. But for some reason, he can't quite make himself go back to how things were before.

Hi sorry I’ve been rereading pjo recently and it’s still so good and remembering how good pjo is always makes me so disappointed in hoo all over again. For some reason something that’s been really driving me crazy this time over is just how bad the power scaling is in hoo, and I’m sure that this has been talked about already but I just wanted to get the thoughts out of my head and you seemed like a good place to rant to sorry, also it has been a hot minute since I actually read hoo so sorry if I got anything wrong.
It just, it’s so bad. In just the span of son Frank learns to shapeshift into literally any animal he wants (including mythical ones) with seemingly no repercussions?? I don’t even remember him talking about like getting tired. In less than a year over the span of the rest of the books Piper learns to charmspeak so well she can put a primordial goddess to sleep and Hazel becomes a master at manipulating the mist. I feel like I remember there being some nuance and development with Leo’s powers but I’m not sure (also side tangent, I wouldn’t be surprised, Leo was by far the most interesting and nuanced character in the series until Rick made his entire arc about being jealous over a girl). It’s been so cool to reread pjo and being able to SEE Percy getting more powerful, being able to watch him grow and learn to use his powers.
Also!! In pjo powers were clearly a pretty rare and cool thing reserved for powerful demigods, and that was cool! And it really emphasized that children of the Big Three were especially powerful/dangerous, which was like a pretty important plot point actually!! And then in hoo that just all gets thrown away, anyone can have super cool powers, godly parents mean nothing. (I haven’t read all of trials of apollo yet but it seemed like this was still a problem Rick was having re: Meg)
I’ve thought this before but Rick just like forgot how to make characters interesting and nuanced in hoo I think. He tried to replace an interesting personality and motivations with cool powers. In an attempt to make all of the seven as cool as Percy, Rick actually just made every character, including Percy, bland and samey with little nuance.
Sorry this is so long and rambling, I have a lot of feelings about hoo :P
don’t apologize!!!! u r so right and i always want to rant abt this when hoo is talked about lmaoo. percy and the rest of the characters fell into this same line of sameness and boringness, and annabeth not having powers was even addressed when it didn’t need to be addressed before??? it’s seen as an insecurity (for her) while at the same time in moa she proves that she can work without powers? ok ig. idk ur right it wasn’t nuanced at all, bc annabeth should’ve been the norm: someone with little to no “supernatural” power. ok, have piper charmspeak, but why depend on that entirely? piper is “cunning” per se, but rick doesn’t explore that tbh BECAUSE of her charm speaking ability!!! leo as a character was so interesting and i have a post abt him but yeah, basically his arch was ruined by the fanon, racist version i think. rick just turned his eye on the fans and decided to make everything according to them and not what was ACTUALLY meant to happen. also the rest of the characters: i think hazel being That Powerful makes sense, but this is the big three kids we’re talking about!! ofc she needs to be powerful, but yeah, her power growth was fast and it wasn’t addressed. it was almost like she was unappreciated and put to the sidelines in the end bc again. racism. huh. jason was implied to be more powerful, and out of all the big three kids i think he was the weakest in those terms lolll. yeah it’s. bad. power should’ve been like pjo, and if there’s gonna be powerful characters then their arch has to be nuanced and well developed, not abrupt like what happened during hoo🤷🏽‍♀️

Ship game!! What about Nico and Will?? It’s pretty popular, but I don’t think I’ve seen you write much of it…
That's an interesting one in that I have vocalized my reasons for disliking it way back when it first became popular but instead of just linking that, it has been years so I think it's time for an updated version.
Firstly: This post is gonna be properly tagged and not crosstagged so if any shipper comes across it and feels the need to bitch about it, just don't; your lack of curating your own tumblr experience is not my problem! ;D
Now, there are three key factors that play into my dislike of this ship: How it was written, what it represents, how the fandom around it acts.
1. It’s rushed and uncomfortable
In BoO, it was incredibly rushed. They had literally five sentences of interactions before they walked into the literal sunset together. Five. It was just entirely born from Riordan's Noah's Ark Complex, where he just can't let people be single. The series was ending and he needed Nico to have an endgame so he rushed into some random romance with zero build-up.
The way their interactions went down was also severely uncomfortable for me. Will was acting so offended by Nico not wanting to go to camp and be friends in an entitled way that he had no right to be, he downright guilt-tripped Nico about how he had wanted to be friends. Nico has been just so severely traumatized at such a young age and his coping mechanism, as unhealthy as it was, was to run away and hide. Will acted like Nico not wanting to form attachments to people who could potentially leave him again was somehow just an Edgy Emo Decision and not a direct reaction to his trauma. His entire approach to Nico was basically all these hippie posts of "Don't have depression!! Just go out into the sun and stop being depressed!", which is already a bad take with non-medical people but he's supposed to be a doctor (and let's not get into the shadiness of him technically being Nico's doctor).
There is also an inherent "I can fix him" angle to this ship and to me, only few ship dynamics are more uncomfortable than that. If you want to fundamentally change a person's behavior and personality, you... don't actually want to be with this person.
Now, here's where my points overlap, because the following parts of their writing that bothers me also stand for what this ship fundamentally represents.
2. Solangelo is a queer ship written by and for straights
I'm a queer woman and as a queer woman, I want queer wish-fulfillment, not what straights want out of queerness. I'm kind of tired of that, I've been sitting through it for enough decades now. That's, of course, not to say that no straight writer can give proper queer representation, but far too often do straight writers - even the most well-meaning ones - project straight desires of queerness into their queer representation.
Let me explain that closer through this ship.
Nico's been in love with Percy for years and I'm going to do my best to not hijack this post with some Percico agenda; that's not what this his about, this isn't some "my ship is better than your ship" ship-war nonsense. It's simply a canonical fact that Nico has had romantic feelings for another character for years.
A character who, in this medium, is heterosexual. And if you're queer, you've been there. In love with your straight best friend. It's a cliche, but it's a cliche for a reason.
We have also all been well-meaningly rejected by said straight friend.
And here's the straight desires for you: The queer person who was in love with a straight person just immediately stops having those feelings and will then as quickly as possible fall in love with the next queer person they meet to be happy and no longer uncomfortably in love with a straight person, because that thought makes the straights uncomfortable.
Queer wish-fulfillment would be for Percy to return those feelings, for the queer character to get his first love, to not be rejected. That thing queer teens always dreamed about for themselves.
Aside from the wish-fulfillment angle, the pacing is another problem. Let me repeat, Nico was in love for years. But a five sentence conversation with Will once causes a crush on Will and we see him physically turn away from Percy and toward Will just immediately to rebound and actually fall out of love with Percy and in love with Will. Anyone who's ever been unlucky in love will attest to just how unrealistic and ridiculous the pacing here is.
It's also straight queerness in another respect; Nico has been the first ever queer character we meet in that world. He loves a straight guy - and to get over that, we introduce the second queer character. Because heaven forbid there are multiple queers to pick from. No, in straight-written queer romances, there is always that one main queer and then they introduce a second one and the two just immediately hit it off and develop a romance like all a queer person needs to form attraction to someone is the confirmation that the other person shares your sexuality.
Also the notable gay guy on gay guy ship here, whereas the more queer-wish-fulfillment option would have also included more nuance to the queer experience, because Percy doesn't have to be heterosexual just because he has only been with girls so far. It's a very old-fashioned - think 90s and early 2000s - kind of straight-written queerness that there are only exactly two homosexuals and that those two homosexuals then pair up.
And, listen, I'm not immune to these outdated straight-written queers entirely, I have many such ships that I grew up with that I am still fond of because they were groundbreaking at that time and they weren't outdated yet back when they happened in said 90s and early 2000s. I am however a grown woman now and just like I have grown, so has queer rep so I am not as easily baited into falling onto my knees in gratitude for canon rep. You have to go with the times. And this ship, by all that is given to us, is just entirely outdated straight-written rep.
Which, I mention earlier that even straight-written rep can be good. If the author tries. Riordan doesn't really try though; he does the bare minimum when he writes any of his rep - and there have been many, many more qualified voices being very vocal about his depiction of people of color and, as a woman, I've been vocal about his depiction of women. I don't want to derail this post with all of that, but I do think that it bears mentioning that Riordan doing rep but only doing a bare minimum and not putting in the necessary work to deepen the representation he wants to give is a repeating pattern that has been pointed out many times by now.
(I’d also like to point out that no, it is not just the ship and not just the listed instances that make it straight-written rep for straights. It’s Nico’s entire queer arc, starting with his forced coming out. A severely traumatizing event that is completely brushed over because the straight author doesn’t understand the impact this has on queer people. Not to mention the framework; Nico’s coming out isn’t Nico’s story, it happens in Jason’s POV, it is given to us through the POV of the straight bystander who gets to be Best Ally by assuring Nico that being gay is okay. This kind of coming out is not a queer wish-fulfillment, it’s a straight wish-fulfillment of getting to be the straight savior, the ally to show the gay the light of acceptance. And, additional to the ridiculous pacing of how fast Nico gets over his love for Percy, Nico also gets over years of internalized homophobia just because of, I don’t know, Jason’s few encouraging words and the fact that Will paid attention to him? For a gay kid who was in the closet all his life, the nonchalant way in which he publicly confessed his crush to Percy at the end made absolutely no sense and was written as basically a joke, finished off with Nico literally high-fiving Percy’s girlfriend despite those two never having seen eye to eye before but this is straight wish-fulfillment so all straights are Super Allies, because that’s the way straights want to see themselves, even though Annabeth has shown before just how jealous she can be and she most definitely wouldn’t go around high-fiving people who confess to her boyfriend. Nothing about Nico’s queer arc in HoO felt natural or queer or satisfying.)
Sure, Solangelo on a surface level is big because it's a canon queer couple in a YA book-series and kudos for that and yay for the kids who get to grow up seeing queers in YA books, but I actually do think that kids growing up with books written in the 2010s shouldn't grow up with 1990s levels of representation, because the 2010s overall are actually at a far more nuanced and better level of representation when it comes to queerness. And I do reserve the right to quit on too straight-written and too outdated queer rep in a landscape where I can get more satisfying representation elsewhere; we don’t live in times anymore where you necessarily have to love every bit of rep because it’s the only one you get.
Now that we've gone through my first two gripes, let's wrap this up with the final point, because it also directly ties into this.
3. The new wave of antis hiding behind this ship
A huge part of the fandom is so busy kissing Riordan's ass solely for giving them queer rep at all they think that both the author and the ship are beyond flawless and that kind of attitude is not good. Just because an author includes rep doesn't make either perfect. Absolutely no one is beyond critique - especially not when said critique comes from the very people the author is representing. And even beyond any "valid" critique on the ship, quite frankly, someone should also be allowed to just not like it, without any reasons given at all.
But there is a certain... protective obsessiveness about this ship that doesn't allow a not liking. Very similar to how PJO bore this mindset around Perc/abeth already. It's okay to have OTPs, even OTPs that you have a blindspot for and just don't want to see any flaws in. It is however not okay to then go around attacking people who don't like the thing and mind their own business.
Solangelo's bred a new generation of antis in this fandom. And, particularly with the fact that this post too receives an "anti" tag, I feel like there needs to be a clarification (because tumblr likes to forget what actually makes an anti). Not liking something doesn't make you an anti, venting in properly tagged posts doesn't either; it's the people who harass others, who seek out the content they dislike to then complain that it even exists and who actively try to make others stop creating for it - those are antis.
And with Solangelo's popularity, there was a high rise in Percico antis, who sought it out, were unnecessarily nasty about it, harrassed creators and tried to enforce some kind of "Solangelo supremacy" that won't allow other ships for the characters.
I've been in fandom long enough to be perfectly aware that not all Solangelo shippers count into this category and that there are completely normal and nice Solangelo shippers, but this is a Venn diagram where the overlap between Solangelo shippers and antis is too large to not widely associate the nasty people with the ship itself. (I've been there myself, shipping the very ship behind which a fandom's antis all hid. The second-hand embarrassment of having these people give the ship a bad name is horrendous and I do feel bad for all the normal Solangelo shippers.)
The more often I encountered these people, who made Percico bad (sometimes in wildly ridiculous manners that bent and deliberately misinterpreted canon) and who in the same breath praised Solangelo high, the more tired I grew of that ship. It's a simple game of association, really. You see that linked to the gross and nasty behavior and you start associating the ship itself with that gross and nasty behavior - and with all the things I said before that already weighed into my dislike of the ship, this just was the final tipping point, really.
And that's it. That sums up why I dislike Solangelo. It was hastily rushed, uncomfortable in its execution, it is outdated rep that very much feels as straight-written as it factually is and it does not feel aimed at me as a queer person but rather at the straight audience and it has gathered a cult following of quite uncomfortable people who on their own would be reason enough to avoid it so you can avoid them.
Send me a ship and I will explain why I do or don't ship it

hey! i love your writing and got so excited when i saw you were taking prompts! can you do post tlo, pre hoo percabeth? bonus points if its percy comforting a touch starved annabeth. they just make me so soft <3
in which Percy and Annabeth are dating, and she doesn’t want to hold back,, percabeth,, did i do this right👀
Percy doesn’t think he’ll ever quite get used to calling Annabeth his girlfriend. Even after almost a month, he still gets excited whenever she slides her hand into his or presses a lingering kiss to his lips. His heart flutters with every glance she throws his way, and he thinks he loves her.
Girlfriend. It’s a welcome change.
He can’t seem to stop watching her all day. In the dining pavilion, he’s mesmerized by the way she looks, sitting at the Athena table. Her camp necklace rests perfectly against her throat, and he can see the coral pendant he’d given her that makes him feel a rush of warmth within him.
Percy desperately wishes they were anywhere but here — somewhere he can pull her in close and hold her just because he can. It’s not until much later that day that they get the chance to be alone. The sun has already gone down hours before, and the campers are all inside of their cabins. They’re not technically supposed to be out, but harpies have never particularly scared Annabeth, and Percy’s not about to complain about one of the only times he gets to see his girlfriend alone.
The door to his cabin opens silently, but he catches the movement anyways. When his girlfriend appears in front of the door, invisibility cap in hand, a smile morphs onto his face because somehow, she looks impossibly better with the moonlight shining in, lighting up the curves of her face, reflecting against her blonde curls.
“Hi,” Percy says gently when he doesn’t move any closer. He holds a hand out towards her, and she takes it this time, settling next to him on the bed. Her legs tuck underneath her as she faces him, and Percy moves a strand of hair in front of her face. “I missed you all day.”
“I’ve been with you all day,” she teases.
“You know what I mean,” he says, pulling her in for a kiss. It lingers for a few seconds, though it stays gentle and sweet. “We aren’t alone very often.”
“You know you can still kiss me, right? Even if we’re not alone?”
“Yeah, but…”
Annabeth raises an eyebrow playfully. “But…?”
“I get nervous,” he confides. There’s a hint of humor in his voice, but they both know there’s at least some truth to it. “I don’t want people thinking I kiss weird, or something.”
“Speaking as the person being kissed, I’d say you’re doing a great job.”
“You’re biased,” he chides. “You have to say that.”
“I’d tell you if you were a bad kisser,” she says, a wide smile. “I can’t be dating someone who thinks kissing is just mashing lips together.”
“Please never say that again.”
Annabeth giggles softly, and Percy feels a rush of warmth at the sound. He can tell she’s tired from the way she speaks slow and quiet, blinking her eyes languidly.
“You’re such a good kisser I wish you’d do it more often.”
Percy blinks at that. It’s an innocent statement, but something about the way she says it catches him off guard.
“What do you mean?”
Annabeth opens her mouth before shutting it just as quickly. “It’s nothing.”
“Tell me,” he pleads. Her entire demeanor shifts; he can sense the tension slowly rising in her shoulders, so he grabs her hand and pulls it into his lap. “Please?”
“It’s really not anything much,” she says again. “Today just kind of sucked. It was Silena’s birthday, and it’s like everyone forgot. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. And then the war… I miss her, and all I wanted to do all day was come hug you and cry, except I couldn’t because…”
He thinks he knows what she’s about to say.
“Anyways,” she says, “I just missed you all day too. And I want to be able to hug and kiss you in front of other people. I don’t want to have to wait until we’re alone.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not anything you did,” she tells him, squeezing his hand. “I could have kissed you first, but I didn’t. I’m just saying that I want to be able to kiss my boyfriend whenever I want to.”
Percy grins. “Yeah?”
“Especially on days like today when all I want to do is cry.” “I’ll be sure to kiss you all the time from now on,” he says. “Starting right now.”
“Now?”
“It’s only, like, eleven. That’s a perfectly ordinary time to make out with your girlfriend.”
“I suppose,” she says, humored. “Though I think we can save some for tomorrow as well.”
“No PDA?”
“That’s exactly my point. We aren’t displaying any public affection if we just made out here.”
“Oh, you nerd. Who gets into the semantics of PDA?”
“I do. We have to make sure we’re doing this right if we’re going to be that couple.” Annabeth still leans forwards for a short kiss despite her words.
“I like to think practice makes perfect.”
“Since when did you do perfect?”
“Ouch.”
Annabeth smiles widely but doesn’t respond. Instead, she shoves his shoulder hard so that he falls back onto the bed. She crawls over him before settling down right beside him, pressed tightly against his body.
Percy can’t say they’ve done much of this since they started dating either. It’s nice, though, being able to feel her safe against him after all that they’ve been through. He rubs up and down her back as she turns into him, pressing her face into his chest.
Annabeth’s body is warm against his. The moment is so intimate in the best way possible.
“I love you,” he whispers into her hair because it just feels right. He doesn’t need her to say it back now. It’s just how he feels, and he wants her to know that he is with her to the end.
He can feel the way she smiles into his skin. Her reciprocated I love you is so quiet he almost misses it, but he doesn’t.
They lay in silence for a while, Percy just holding her, and Percy almost thinks that she falls asleep when her breathing starts to settle. When she speaks, voice slow and drowsy, he smiles into the top of her head.
“Don’t you ever forget about me,” she says quietly. “It’ll kill me.”
Something about her voice pains him. He can tell there’s something else she wants to say – something else bothering her – but he can also tell that right now, she just needs someone to be with her, so that’s exactly what he does.
Annabeth isn’t something that can be forgotten, he thinks. She isn’t just a thought. She’s someone that makes him who he is. She is his tie to the mortal world. She’s in his heart, and nothing will ever change that.
Percy’s squeeze around her waist is a promise. “Never.”

                                                      ...
Percy is fucking exhasted.
He was supposed to be back at camp four days ago. The deal was he’d spend weekdays at camp to plan and train and weekends at home to relax. But, he kept putting it off, opting to keep the weight on his chest that’d been pushing him down since last summer bearable, and not crushing the way it always was at camp. So, when he gets through the barrier, aside from nodding hello to Beckendorph and Silena, he makes a beeline to his cabin. He manages to keep his eyes down until he’s standing at his porch steps- and that when he sees her.
Annabeth is pacing on his balcony. She’s wearing jean shorts and her camp shirt, but instead of her typical ponytail her hair is in two intricate braids that reach her breastbone. She’s muttering to herself and wringing her hands together and for a moment Percy forgets. He forgets the past year and all the arguing and the bitterness and he sees Annabeth is worried about something and he reaches out as if to hold her. To wrap his arms around her and tell her that everything is going to be alright.
But then he remembers.
He retracts his hands.
He clears his throat and Annabeth startles. Her grey eyes are as intense as ever and he can almost see her defences come up. He hates that it's because of him. Annabeth is the first to break the silence.
“Hey.” Her voice is small but clear. Not yet vulnerable, but gives Percy the sense that it could be soon.
“What’re you doing here?” He isn’t sure he said it out loud until she ducks her head and flushes.
“Nobody’s seen you in days.” It’s not the accusation he expects. It's also not an answer to his question. Just an observation.
“I’m here now.” He says it like it’s an invitation. He then becomes incredibly aware that he's still looking up at her from the bottom of the steps, so he grabs his duffel, bounds up the stairs, and opens his cabin door. He hesitates and meets her eye with another silent question. She answers by stepping inside.
He drops his bag by his bed and turns on the light. The air is charged with unasked questions and unfinished conversations. He can’t stand it. He’s about to attempt small talk when she says something that nearly knocks down where he stands.
“I miss you.” She’s wringing her hands again and she won’t look him in the eye, but takes his silence as confusion.
“That’s what I came here to say, that I miss you.”
Percy isn’t sure what to say. Percy isn’t sure this conversation is really happening, she’s broken so many of the fragile rules they’d been following all year. He’s 98% sure this is a really vivid daydream to cope with…. well everything.
He decides that on the off chance this is real he should play it safe so, he states the obvious.
“I’m here. We’re here, together. We’re together and-” She cuts him off and begins to ramble.
“Strained and awkward and it's like there’s this chasm between us of all these things from last summer. From our kiss, to you dying, and then you not dying, and Rachel, and Luke, and Luke being Not-Luke, and it’s like we can’t have a conversation anymore and that sucks ‘cause..”
She pauses for the first time to look up at him and her eyes are shining.
“You’re kinda my best friend. And I miss you. Everything sucks and I'm tired of fighting. And I really miss you.”
Percy’s too shocked to say anything. It occurs to him that he should respond but he can’t find the words. All the unspoken rules they had in place and Annabeth had just steamrolled right through them. Percy realizes his mistake in staying silent as Annabeth flushes and turns to leave.
“Forget it, you’re a fucking asshole.” And oh no Annabeth had just swallowed her pride (which he knows better than anyone is no easy feat) to say everything he’d wanted to hear and he can’t let her walk away.
“I miss you too.” The words tumble out of him, clunky and a little awkward but earnest. Annabeth stops and faces him, eyes suspicious in the way that breaks his heart a little bit.
“Really?”
“Yeah. Really.”
Annabeth exhales and shoots him a tremulous smile he hasn’t seen in forever, and oh he’d forgotten what it did to his chest when she did. Before he does something stupid like tell her he thinks her smile is the best this he’s ever seen, he clears his throat.
“So…. this chasm you said, what do you propose we do about it?”
“24 hours. For 24 hours everything that I listed before is a non-issue. After that we can go back to…..whatever it is we’re doing now. One day, where we’re just two friends spending a day at camp together..”
“Best friends.” He corrects without thinking. She rolls her eyes, and he almost giggles because he’d missed her eyerolls too.
She holds out her hand to shake, all business-like and gods he missed her.
“Best friends. 24 hours.”
He takes her hand. Her shake is firm, her palms are warm, her eyes are bright, and she is beautiful.
“Where do we start?”
...
Apparently it starts with homework.
After he asked where they’d begin, Annabeth had flashed him a wicked grin, damn-near dragged him off the porch, and made a beeline to the Big House. Before last summer, Annabeth had been “tutoring” him. Once a week they’d head down to the Big House and spend hours combing through myths and legends, practicing Ancient Greek, and all things Demigod 101. It probably wasn’t ever that useful considering Percy barely remembered any of it, but Annabeth had always insisted. After last summer they’d non-verbally decided to take a break from it (eachother), and they’d never started back up.
Usually he’d halfheartedly complain that it was pointless and say some form of ‘I know enough to not die and that's good enough for me’ every five minutes, but today he nods dutifully along as Annabeth talks animatedly about Orpheus, and Theseus, and all the other -eus’s. He’ll ask a dumb question that they both know he knows the answer to, but she answers him anyway. He watches the wisps of hair that refused to be tied down, and counts the tiny sunspots across her nose and the way she wrinkles her eyebrow when she forgets a name.
It’s not terrible. It’s kinda the opposite. He’d forgotten that she made studying not terrible.
He’s so screwed.
...
The stables are almost empty when they get there.
After 2 hours of studying, (one hour of studying, one hour of laughing and talking and calling it studying) Annabeth declared it was his turn to pick the activity. Tired of sitting still Percy lands on tending to the pegasi. It was one of his favorite things about camp plus he got to teach Annabeth something for once. Annabeth was comfortable enough around them but she never spent anytime with them that she didn’t have to.
When they entered the barn, Blackjack gave him a look and he blushed remembering all the times he’d come to the stables with Beckendorph to vent about how much he missed Annabeth, (He didn’t even know horses could give looks but here we are) and silently told him it was a long story and to be cool. Annabeth had stopped next to one of the cleaning stations and was looking at him expectantly. He cleared his throat and they got to work. He showed her how to brush them and how to get tangles out of their manes, where to scritch them and where not to scratch them. He showed her how to check their feathers and make sure their wings were healthy and how to get them to be still enough to check.
Annabeth was excellent with them, gentle hands and kind eyes. Whenever she approached one she would look them in the eye and talk to them like the intelligent creatures they were. Each time she got started taking care of a new steed she’d gently reach for the muzzle and say in a soothing voice:
“Hi, my name is Annabeth and I'm going to groom you today. Don’t worry, I'm friends with Percy, and he taught me exactly how to take care of you. If I’m doing something wrong, let him know and he’ll tell me how to fix it. I promise I’ll do my best to make sure you feel like a brand new pegasus.”
Frankly, it was fucking adorable.
Pork-pie had taken a special liking to Annabeth, telepathically asking Percy if she could groom him more often. When he told this to Annabeth she’d beamed and enthusiastically agreed to come down whenever she could. Percy had off-handedly suggested that they take them out for a bit and Annabeth immediately started to release Pork-Pie from his stall.
They flew over camp for what could’ve been minutes or hours. He was lucky that Blackjack could fly himself because Percy couldn’t take his eyes off his flying partner. Her braids held firm, but a few rebellious curls were now whipping with the wind. The atmosphere combined with the speed they were flying, made her cheeks red and splotchy. Her smile is brighter than the sun, and eyes- gods her eyes were going to be the death of him. The sun and her mood (he had this theory that her eyes changed color based on her emotions) had made them almost blue, they are full of laughter, and Percy adores her. And when she directs her sunshine-smile at him, Percy can’t help but smile back.
(He doesn’t stop smiling until they land.)
...
As they're putting their pegusi back in their stalls, Blackjack decides to give him some advice.
“I know I don’t understand all of your fragile human emotions, but I know enough. There’s a lot of bad in this world of ours, and from what you’ve told me about this war business it's only gonna get worse. You gotta make the most of the good.”  He tilts his head over to Annabeth who is cooing at a preening Pork-Pie.
“You and ladyboss, you’re good together. And really nothing else matters.”
He doesn’t have time to even think about a response when Annabeth is walking over from Pork-Pie’s stall, and telling him it's time for a picnic.
...
(“What did Blackjack say to you? You looked kinda flustered when I got you.” Percy almost drops the plate he’s piling with food from the buffet. He’s gotten three pointedly confused looks at the sight of him and Annabeth together and not strangling each other and a thumbs-up from Grover. He and Annabeth are getting their food and then they’ll go sit by the beach.
“Oh,” He clears his throat and goes with the first thing he thinks of. “Blackjack calls you ladyboss.” Good that's good, not technically a lie either.
“Huh. Weird.” Annabeth, seemingly satisfied with this, returns her attention to the grapes she is adding to her plate.)
...
“Where do you go?” Annabeth asks. She’s sitting next to him in the sand brushing crumbs off her fingers. They had been eating and watching the ocean in comfortable silence and Percy furrows his eyebrows in confusion. “Lots of days when you’re at camp for lunch and sometimes dinner you just disappear for hours. And I know you aren’t going home because your stuff is still in your cabin. Where do you go?”
It’s not an accusation, just a question. Percy gets the feeling she doesn’t want to know so she can disturb, she just worries. Percy knows her. He knows she’s always planning for the worst and she needs to be able to get to him if there's an emergency.
(It strikes him that she notices when he disappears and he feels guilty but also just a little hopeful. Because she misses him as much as he misses her.)
He stacks their plates and rests them on the blanket they’d been sharing. Percy stands up and holds out his hand, gesturing for Annabeth to do the same.
“C’mon, I’ll show you.”
...
He tells her to close her eyes. She gives him a skeptical look but obliges and holds out her hands, a silent request for him to guide her. It’s almost easier to take her hands in his without those trademark eyes on him. But it’s not any less intense. As soon as their fingers interlock sparks of electricity lick up his arm. Now that her eyes are closed he can look at her face up close without fear. Her curls had gotten more unruly as the day went on, and the ringlets that framed her face blew lightly in the ocean breeze. He leads her slowly towards the ocean, using his powers to dry any spot she walks on. He sees her brows furrow when she notices how far they’ve walked towards the ocean without their feet getting wet, but she doesn’t say anything. He parts the water for her to walk through, and when the water rises above their heads, he forms an air bubble that moves with them, keeping them dry. When they get to a good spot, squeezes her hand signaling for her to stop with him, but tells her to keep her eyes closed. Then he closes his eyes with her and calls out to the ocean's creatures, making himself a beacon.
Here I am, he thinks. The son of Poseidon.
Come to me.
Minutes pass.
“You can open your eyes now.” He whispers.
She does, and lets out a soft gasp, “Oh, Percy.”
He smiles and looks out at the scene before them. He’d come down here after a particularly bad day and just wanted to sit in silence. It was an accident, calling the creatures to him. Subconsciously, he must have sent a message along that he was feeling alone. And all sorts of sea creatures - from greek monsters and to great white sharks to your average cod had flocked to him. And he didn’t feel so alone. So now, whenever he couldn’t take the human world, he’d come down here and talk to the fish.
This time he’d actually concentrated on getting a message out and they did not disappoint. He couldn’t count all the animals that had heeded his call but it was a sight to behold. He had willed some glowing coral from the deeper ocean to stay in that spot, which created a multicolored tint to everything around them.
Normally they come right up close to him, but this time they were hesitant. And as he listened to the creatures and heard more than a few whispers of Athena and stranger, he’s suddenly reminded that she’s the only person he’s ever done this with. It’s his favorite place, and she is the only other person ever to see it.
“It's okay guys, she’s a friend.” He reassures them. When he looked back at Annabeth, her mouth was still hung open and she was staring out at the scene in front of them in wonder. He smiles at her dazed silence and uses the hand he’s still holding to tug her up to the barrier of the bubble. The first creature willing to accept Annabeth is a baby spotted dolphin. He swims towards the clumsily with eager fins and pokes at the barrier with it’s snout. Annabeth's eyes widen in fear and look up at him and it takes a second to realize she isn’t afraid of the animal, but of their bubble popping.
“Don’t worry, the bubble won’t break unless I break it myself, and it’ll last however long I want it to.” He reassures her. He senses her hesitation so he guides her hand up to meet the snout of the baby dolphin who seems fascinated with Annabeth herself. He reaches his snout and head bumps directly into the spot on the bubble where her palm is placed.
Annabeth lets out a laugh, the kind of laugh that sort of bubbles out of you without warning and it’s the best thing Percy’s ever heard. He watches as the shock fades for her features and she pets the infant creature through the sheen of bubble keeping them dry. The animals begin to warm up to Annabeth as well, and as soon as they figure out she’s not some evil Athena agent sent to destroy the ocean, they join in on the fun. Hundreds of ocean creatures of all sizes begin doing tricks, nuzzling up to the flexible barrier, all vying for Annabeth’s attention. Annabeth herself is happy to oblige. Ever consistent, she introduces herself to each creature she meets. She smiles and laughs and reaches out to all the animals she can. Percy is happy simply to watch her and keep the bubble up but then she turns to him, eyebrow drawn together in concern, pointing to a particularly awnry seahorse, and asks what it's saying.
“He says his name is Frank and that he’s ‘too pregnant for this shit.’”
Annabeth stares blankly.
“His words not mine.” Percy offers hands up in surrender.
Then she snorts and then they’re laughing, they’re laughing harder than they have in years, and it's that kind of hysterical laugh where everything around them makes it more funny, and soon Percy’s clutching his stomach and Annabeth is beet red.  As soon as it subsides enough to get words out Annabeth is shaking his arm saying “Do that one! What's he saying? Oh my gods what even is that? Does that one like me? That ones majestic, what's his name? Oh Percy, look!! Look at that one!”
So he translates and they laugh and he teaches her different species and Annabeth nods along like it’s very important stuff. She pets the baby dolphin through the bubble and listens intently to all the animals telling her stories, even though she can’t understand a word until Percy tells her what they said. And when it’s time to go he sees the tears in her eyes and tells Percy to promise the baby that she’ll visit all the time, even though they both know she can’t.
(Apparently the baby dolphins name is Arnold, and according to his mother, he was so enthralled by Annabeth because when he first saw her he thought she was an angel.)
(Percy thinks he’s not too far off.)
...
(“That was incredible Percy. Thank you so much for sharing that with me.” They had been walking in silence as they made their way back to camp using the bubble, enjoying the afterglow of their adventure.
“Yeah, of course.” She smiles at him and looks ahead.
He’s not sure why he does it but without looking at her he reaches out and ever so carefully, and brushes her fingertips with his.
Her breath hitches, but she doesn’t say anything.
Then suddenly, miraculously, her hand tilts and their fingers are interlocked.
And there's no pretense of guiding her somewhere, they’re just….holding hands.
And it's perfect.)
...
Percy thinks if he’s not in love with her, he’s pretty damn close.
Because this feeling, the one he gets in his chest when he looks at her, is what love feels like.
...
When they resurface, they’re met with twinkling lights and the last three stragglers singing softly at the campfire. It’s almost time for lights out.
Oh.
Oh no.
Annabeth seems to be coming to the same realization, as she clears her throat and lets go of his hand. He misses her fingers immediately.
“So, I guess we should start heading to bed.” She looks at him, hopeful but he’s stuck. Stuck in the feeling of dread at the idea of waking up tomorrow and not having his best friend. Suddenly the idea of leaving her side is so unbearable he can’t speak.
“Goodnight, Percy.” She’s turning around and backing away when the words lodged in his throat come unstuck.
“8 in the morning.” She turns giving him a ‘what are you on about’ look.
“That when you came and got me at 8 in the morning. We agreed on 24 hours. It's only been 12.”
She smiles slow and wide, “You know you're right, that math checks out.”
“We had very clear terms. We even shook on it.”
“Yes we did.”, she nods gravely. “It’s a binding agreement, we can’t just ignore it.”
“So what do we do?”
She flashes a wicked grin. “You aren’t the only one with a secret spot.”
...
Percy arrives in the Big House 20 minutes after curfew was called, exactly as Annabeth had instructed. He felt her presence before she re-materialized in front of him and in a low conspiratorial whisper tells him to follow her.
They sneak down to the basement and Percy is confused when she keeps walking towards the corner. She lifts up a floorboard and starts climbing down a ladder. She beckons him to join her and when he makes it down the ladder, he can’t help the smile that breaks out. It’s a sort of underground attic, complete with a worn dusty couch, blankets and an old TV.
“I found it my first year at camp by accident. I was down doing chores and one of the broom strings got caught under it. I didn’t have many friends except for….” She lets him fill in the blank rather than say the name out loud. “And when he wanted to be with kids his own age, I’d come here. There's only five movies down here and I memorized them.” She looks down at her shoes. “I know it’s not the sea floor but..”
“Are you kidding? It’s awesome. What are the movies?”
They dig around and end up finding two more that apparently seven-year-old Annabeth did not think worth the time. They watch Die Hard first, (“Oh my Gods I can't believe you haven’t watched Die Hard. This is a travesty. It’s a classic Annabeth.”) then Pulp Fiction, ("I can’t believe it, all the shit you gave me for not seeing Die Hard, and you haven’t Pulp Fiction?? You absolute heathen!") and Clueless. ("What? It has to be full of violence and toxic masculinity to be good? It’s a good movie Percy, shut-up.") Before he knows it, it’s 3:54 am shaking with hysterical silent laugher at Annabeth's impression of Dionysus.
“Oh my gods oh-OH! Do you know what we’ve got to do?”
“Uh-oh, what?”
She grins impishly and a little deliriously. “We’ve gotta go to our spot.”
“Ah, of course. Yes, our spot, totally.” He says in a voice he hopes is neutral, in an effort to gage if she’s serious.
“Oh my gods.” She gasps, offended.
“What.”
“I can’t believe this.”
“You can’t believe what?”
“You forgot our spot.”
“I’m sorry Annabeth, until four seconds ago I wasn’t aware we had a spot.”
“Oh my gods. I can not believe this-” He can tell she’s messing with him, and not actually mad.
“Annabeth, just tell me where it is.”
“I simply can not believe this, you absolute heathen-”
“Stop calling me a heathen, and tell me where it is.”
She smiles, “I can show you.”
...
“Oh, of course! This is our spot!”
Annabeth chuckles, “I told you.” They’re standing at the edge of the forest at the tallest of the rock clusters to the far left. It's the one they used to go to after their first quest, the place where Annabeth taught him the constellations. The place where he made his first real friend. Not people he hung out with to avoid getting picked on. Not a searcher who happened to like the demigod he found.  His first real best-friend.
They climbed up easily and lay down looking straight up at the sky. Annabeth points up at the floating memorials, and Percy dutifully recites the legends of how they earned their place in the sky. They're shoulder to shoulder and their fingers graze each other for longer than necessary. And slowly they lull into comfortable silence, arms overlapping, at some point Annabeth's head lands on his shoulder. Percy freezes for a while, staying absolutely still as if she’s a wild creature who could bolt at any moment. But then he relaxes, and she relaxes and he’s pretty sure she’s asleep until she takes in a shaky breath and whispers, “Hey, Percy?”
“Yeah?”
“We’re gonna be okay right?” He can tell she's trying to mask the vulnerability in her voice. And he can’t see all of her face from the angle they’re laying, but her nose is on his collarbone, and her hair is tickling his chin.
He closes his eyes, and he thinks. He thinks about Luke and Rachel and how nothings been the same since Percy blew up that mountain.
He thinks about seeing her for the first time, grey eyes wide hair falling off her shoulders and how even after everything he just went through, he felt safe. He thinks about ‘you drool when you sleep’, and the way she looked at him when he was claimed- awestruck and pitiful at the same time. He thinks about rolled eyes, stamped feet, and frustration always just under the surface. He thinks about silent truces, and letting guards down, and shared oreos in the back of a mobile zoo. He thinks about sweaty palms gripping each other in the Underworld, and shaky hands giving him a good luck camp necklace. He thinks about camp fires, stupid jokes, learning about the stars, and how the just fit.
He thinks about postcards and iris-messages, and how she punched Matt Sloane square on the nose. He thinks about how despite the arguing and the confusion about Tyson, she was always there when she needed him. How she didn’t hesitate to sneak out of camp with one of the first species he ever learned to truly fear, because he asked her to. He thinks about her in a dress and how tongue-tied him in guinea pig form. He thinks about her broken sobs and how she clutched at him in their underwater bubble. He thinks about winning a chariot race, the softest of cheek kisses and how in this world of gods and monsters, she’s the only thing he was really sure about.
He thinks about how she was the first girl he ever danced with, and how light everything felt when she was around. He thinks about how it felt strangely familiar when she fell off that cliff, and how only days later realized that it was the same desperation he had when Hades took his mother. He thinks about how gutted it was when he found out she was thinking about joining the Hunters. He thinks about his visit from Aphrodite and how even though she changed form, her hair smelled like lemons the entire time. He thinks about when he saw her on that cliff it was like the sun came out. How he saw her face and it was smudged with dirt and cuts but she was alive and he could breathe again. He thinks about how his throat closed up when he thought Artemis was going to pick her for the Hunt. He remembers how when they danced on Olympus, for a song she was prettier than Aphrodite.
He thinks about planning a movie date, and how he discovered Annabeth doesn’t get any less pretty when she’s mad at him. How she sat right next to him at dinner and how when she fixed his armour, his neck burned wherever she touched him. He thinks about falling in a whole and holding her hand and how they’d done it before but it felt different that time. He thinks about ping pong table meetings and how he became aware of the fact that he’d follow her anywhere. He thinks about the determination in her when she faced the Sphinx, and how the same fire was in them right before she kissed him. He thinks about how she tasted like smoke and salt, and how for the 3.2 seconds that his lips were hers, the first thing he thought was ‘we fit like this too’. He thought he was going to die but it was okay. It was okay that he was going to die, because he had gotten to kiss her. He thinks about Calypso’s Island, and how he dreamt about her every night. How when he crashed his funeral, she held like she couldn’t bear to let go and how that was fine with him. He thinks about the blur that was the labyrinth, full of unshed tears, words that cut, and how despite all the scream fights and the terror, and the barely contained rage, none of it lessened the fierce protectiveness he feels for her. How despite it all, she's still the best thing that's ever fucking happened to him. He thinks about the last line of her prophecy, and how she thought it was about him.
He loves her.
He’s not sure if he’s in love with her because he’s 15 and he hasn’t exactly had time to date around but he knows that for a fact. Knowing Annabeth, loving Annabeth has made him who he is. She is burned into his DNA. Somehow the 12 year old with princess curls and eyes that cut, crawled under his skin. He knows he’s done the same to her, even though they’re both too stubborn to say it out loud. They could never really leave each other, even if they tried.
So Percy shifts so he can see her face in the pale moonlight, brushes a curl out of her face and says,
“Yeah. It’s us Annabeth. We’re gonna be alright.”
She smiles soft and real because she knows him, so she knows he means it. He’s not sure who reaches out this time, but they're holding hands and staring at the sky in a silence that speaks volumes.
They stay like that until it’s sunrise and they have to sneak into their respective cabins. Looking at stars, fighting sleep, and forgetting about the rest of the world.

(They hold hands all the way back to her cabin.)
(He doesn’t stop smiling the whole way back to his own.)

[Warning: emotional abuse]
I really didn't need more reasons to not ship Percabeth, but the more I think about it the more disturbing things I notice. And I relate too much to them to be okay with them. Let's go over this. [Disclaimer: this post is not supposed to be proof that Percabeth is abusive or anything, that has already been talked about. This is just some of my musings. DON'T clown and if you aren't okay with Percabeth crit scroll past. Block the anti tag. Whatever.]
Percy doesn't argue with Annabeth's wishes because it's not worth the trouble. [See the end of this post.] The only examples I can find right now are
... I gave myself a four out of five. Annabeth made a face. ‘You’re being generous.’ [...] ‘Three out of five,’ Annabeth said. I knew better than to argue, so we moved along. (TLO, Chapter 4)
And
‘So,’ she said, ‘are you going to argue about me coming along?’
‘Nah. You’d just beat me up.’ (TLO, Chapter 14)
But bear with me. He goes along what she wants because he knows she won't listen and it's easier to comply. It doesn't seem like much, but it's the worst possible way of being compromising and it's literally how you pave your way into a draining relationship. Believe me, I know.
You don't say anything because arguing is tiring and doesn't accomplish much. You go along with what they want. Maybe you even tell yourself that relationships require compromise. It doesn't occur to you that you're always the one compromising. And then, when you realise they have breached your boundaries and your autonomy is near non existent now, it's too late and there's almost no way out.
It's not a big deal on its own, just one of the subtler signs of imbalance. So yeah, that's exhibit 1. Moving on.
Like @/luke-x-percy has said here, Annabeth always acts like Percy is beneath her, on what grounds, exactly? What reason does she have of thinking she is superior?
She constantly criticizes him, beginning with 'you drool when you sleep'. (I'm too lazy to find the rest of the quotes now. Sorry.) She always finds something to criticize him on, like when he saved her and Grover from Crusty and she was like 'be faster next time' or when they were paired together in botl and Percy was excited and she said 'your armour is crooked.'
Not to mention all the times she calls him stupid. Everyone always calls him stupid until he just internalizes it. He believes he is stupid and no one ever tells him otherwise. And it's so messed up, it breaks my heart? And Annabeth actively reinforces this idea all the time.
This is also not a big deal on its own and may even be read as joking or bickering, but it's a control strategy. Chipping away at your self esteem until you think you don't deserve better than what they can give you and you don't question their treatment of you. In actual abuse language it's also a way of saying 'you're lucky to have me because no one else would want you.' And we all know Annabeth is controlling.
And when you add that to the fact that Percy's self esteem is already non existent, it's despicable that she does it. Here's the thing: Percy believes all the bad things he hears about himself because that's all he hears. He would never prioritise himself or set boundaries because he doesn't know when he deserves better. He was abused and bullied for the better part of his childhood and grew up with an absent father and Gabe of all people for a stepfather. It's safe to say his ideas of relationships are not the healthiest or the best for him.
I mean. If Percy were real I would worry for him. Like I said, his self esteem is non existent and he has no idea how healthy relationships work. And he doesn't know how to prioritise himself. He doesn't know it's an option. And that makes him very easy to be manipulated by a 'I love you so you can't complain when I treat you like shit' kind of abuser. At least he's fictional and I can just ship him with Rachel because I want good things for him.
Speaking of Rachel, I'm never going to stop quoting this because this about sums up why Perachel is healthier than Percabeth:
I can't pretend I hadn't thought about Rachel. She was so much easier to be around than ... Well, than some other girls I knew. I didn't have to work hard, or watch what I said, or wrack my brain trying to figure out what she was thinking. Rachel didn’t hide much. She let you know how she felt. (TLO, Chapter 1)
Rachel is easy to be around, unlike Annabeth ‘I will never make things easy for you’ Chase. She openly communicates with Percy. Green flags. And part of the reason I like Perachel is that Rachel is a mortal and she can give Percy normalcy, the thing he craves most.
I don't think Annabeth would ever understand Percy's need for normalcy. She literally sought out a quest and uses 'mortal' as an insult, at least with Rachel. They are too different. Like this post says (6th point), there are opposites and there are polar opposites. Percy and Annabeth work together only to an extent, but not to the extent that they would work as life partners. They butt heads too much for that.
Anyway. That’s all my incoherent thoughts for now. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

InuKag Fanfic Recommendations
Hi everyone 🌻
I joined the Inuyasha fandom over the summer, and I’ve been having a good time reading fanfiction since finishing the series. Recommendation posts helped me find some great ones. I’ve decided to put one together for fun [lmao for all 10 of my followers - squad]. These are fics I’ve enjoyed [i.e. binged and used as COVID coping mechanisms]. They aren’t in any particular order. I’m sure there are plenty I’ve read that I’m forgetting, but I wasn’t exactly planning to do this.
I’m copy and pasting the summaries from the writers with each link because that’s more helpful than my fangirl thoughts about each one. Ha. I’ve included ratings, but this list is being made with the assumption you’ll determine if a fic is right for you by reading Author Notes and additional ratings within each link.
I tagged the Tumblrs of the authors I follow/could find. If you see someone on here who isn’t tagged and you know their Tumblr, let me know and I can add them. Also, I’ve been using Tumblr less than a month, and I have no idea what I’m doing. If I’ve done something wrong or something looks weird, THAT’S WHY. 💀
As of 11.22.20
Multi-Chapter In Progress:
(T) Light Me a Lantern by Novaviis / @inuyashasforest: “Picking up the pieces after being separated for three years isn't as easy as it may seem. A quiet, burning kind of chaos sweeps through Feudal Japan, and it's going to take a lot more than a fairy tale ending to put things back together. They defeated a man who would become the Devil. Can they survive a man who would become a God?”
(M) Behind the Silk Screen by Eiennobasho / @eien-no-basho: “When a twist of fate brings the common-born priestess Kagome to serve Inuyasha, Divine Emperor of Japan, will she be able to help him claim his place on the throne and bring order to their country? Or will court intrigues and their own burgeoning feelings tear the two and their nation apart? A historical romance set in Japan’s Heian Era.”
(M) Fate Carving by willowandfog / @willowandfog: “The human world has been brought to its knees by the demons, reverting their culture back a century. Demons now control everything and the humans? Set to be servants forever. Kagome’s city is ruled over by the Inu youkai clan and when she goes to Kaede on her 18th birthday for her required “Fate Carving,” the tattoo that will determine what her place is in the world, she’s stunned, terrified, and overwhelmed by the results. Everyone she’s ever known has been a worker, but when has Kagome ever been the same as everyone else?” (M) Kintsugi by Evilillusions / @soliska: “Failing to be chosen as her village's miko, Kagome had resigned herself to a humble life. An unexpected summons returns her to the city where she's forced to reconcile the taught virtues and the spiralling, warped reality created by those that abuse their power. She holds the key to repairing the fracture between humans and youkai, and the freedom of her new hanyou friend.” (M) Bound Across Time by wonderwander / @thornedraven: “InuYasha and Kagome are separated for three years, travelling for so long together only to be ripped apart without so much as a good-bye. Pain and heartache manifests itself in different ways. It hardens you or breaks you. How long can one hold on to hope?” (M) The Half-Breed’s Wife by Gypsyn / @gypsin: “On the night of the new moon, a runaway girl stumbles into Inuyasha's life. Little did he realize then what he would be undertaking by saving her. But when Kagome has nowhere else to go will he leave her to her fate Or will he rise to the occasion? And what will the humans think?” (M) Hit The Like Button by omgitscharlie / @omgitscharlie: “After a public breakup, successful social media influencer Kagome Higurashi is single for the first time since she started her career. Trying to cheer her friend up, Sango hosts a party in hopes of getting Kagome out of her stooper; unbeknownst to her, there was a certain person Sango wants her to meet. Unfortunately, the set up does not go as hoped as the two know each other from previous, unsavory interactions.” (M) Youkai In The Mirror by SugarRos / @sugarrosfanfiction: “Kagome Higurashi is lucky. She has good grades, good friends, and the cute, popular boy in class just asked her out. But when she accidentally unleashes a very wicked youkai from a very wicked spell, her luck runs out. Now on the run from a powerful priestess, Kagome must help Inuyasha get his revenge.” (M) Demon Nature by Shardetector / @shardetector: “He spoke low and gently, although his voice was gruff with his demon still so close to the surface, ‘You saved me wench, now I’ll repay the favor.’ With that, his muscles bunched in his legs as he sprung up and out of the well, a red blur in the night as he made his way through the forest to his destination. His precious cargo held safely to his chest, as he raced to save her with his demonic speed.”
(M) A Crack in the Glass by willowandfog / @willowandfog: “Kagome’s being watched, followed, but has no idea who it is or why they are doing it. When Kagome hires the help of a private investigator things take a dangerous turn. Uncovering secrets that Kagome didn't even know she had.” (M) The Shogun’s Daughter by Shnuggletea / @shnuggletea: “Kagome’s father passed away when she was just a child but his Shogun status still makes her a valuable bride to a Lord of lands that border their village. She isn’t given much choice but still agrees to marry the stranger so those she cares and loves would be happy and safe, taking her village under his protection in return for her hand. Lord Inuyasha Tenoe is pushed by the council into marriage, assured his new bride was an excellent choice. He has his doubts but has no choice, agreeing to the match sight unseen. All their fears and anxiety are amplified when they meet. It’s an interesting coupling to say the least.”
Multi-Chapter Complete:
(M) The Kings Concubines by The ReddQueen: “The Concubines of the House of the Moon are the most beautiful & idolized women across the Western Land. A chance arises as they search for another to take such a prestigious position. One will find that a true concubine is more than beauty, but she must overcome the most painful of hurdles, keep the darkest of secrets, & still stay true to her heart.”
(M) Thousandfurs by RosieB: “Based on the little known Grimm fairytale. Princess Kagome is forced from her home and into the demon territories. Will Prince Inuyasha ever figure out who his new servant is?” (M) Base Instincts by ImaniJoain: “When Inuyasha is lost to his youkai half, Kagome must find a way to convince him to return to himself.”
(M) To Summon a Mate by Penthesileia / @pentheseileia: “On Halloween night, Kagome is tricked into releasing a possessive, dangerous, hotter then hell demon from his prison of 500 years. She's in danger, but it's not her life she's worried about…yet.”
Oneshots
(M) Lesson by akitokihojo / @akitokihojo: “After a long night out, tensions begin to build. Kagome gets herself into a little trouble with Inuyasha, and Inuyasha is more than happy to teach her right from wrong.”
(M) Dominance by omgitscharlie / @omgitscharlie: “She'd been teasing him all day, and she knew it. Those fleeting glances and knowing smiles, it drove Inuyasha insane; not to mention she smelled sweeter, more intense. What happens when Kagome pushes Inuyasha beyond his limits?”
(M) It Will Come Back by wonderwanderer / @thornedraven: “A one shot inspired by Hozier's song "It Will Come Back". Slight Little Red Riding Hood inspiration as well. Darker themed Little Red Riding Hood, and much more adult themed.”
(M) Touch by KeiChanz / @keichanz: “’I want…’ He paused, trying to find the words, and growling in frustration when he couldn’t. A grunt left him and he dropped his forehead onto her shoulder. ‘I just…I…dammit.’ Inuyasha sighed raggedly, nuzzled her shoulder, and then husked against her skin, ‘I want…you.’”
(M) After the Well Closes by Shnuggletea / @shnuggletea: “It's been a year since Kagome made the decision to jump back through the well and leave her family and life behind. And she is confused to say the least that things are almost the same. Tired of being Inuyasha's demon-killing partner and nothing more, Kagome decides to start her new life and family. When she is stopped by a manic demon Inuyasha, her new life beings quickly.”
(M) Mine by jaygirl987: “She was so beautiful and pure. And his.”
(M) Diamonds and Moonglow by annabeth: “That whimper, right there, is what Inuyasha loves most about this.“
(M) Together Again by wonderwanderer / @thornedraven: “Some intimacy between InuYasha and Kagome after being reunited after three years, rediscovering each other in some of the more intimate ways one can.”

I’m stupid and deleted the other scene I’ve posted but here it is again in a little longer 😅😌
Anyway, coleoidea is my attempt on an ahistorical dark fairy tale with a little zesty twist (beauty and the sea beast au ☺️🤲🏾)
*absolutely not proofread, as always
coleoidea
TW: violence, sexism, awful people everywhere
“How much longer?” Annabeth asked the woman in front of her, her aunt.
Natalie Chase pursed her lips. When her brother Randolph had told her in his final letter that Annabeth needed her help to pursue a husband, Natalie didn’t think that it would have been that bad. Annabeth continuously tapped with her foot on the floor or kicked the seat in front of her, either out of boredom or impatience. The blonde hummed a terrible tune, her posture was shameful and the fact that she refused to wear a bonnet made Natalie’s stomach churn. Turning her into a proper lady would take forever and they merely had weeks before the bon ton introduced the next season in March. Six whole months would be spent to make sure that young Annabeth conversed, dined and behaved like a proper lady and knew the ins and outs of mingling with the best sort of people. She would be seen as an adult woman. Six months in which she had to find a husband, else she would be ruined. The rest of their crumbling family would be ruined.
The bon ton, as the nobility liked to call themselves in these ages, proudly stealing the term from the French they claimed to loathe, was rigorous when it came to the upbringing of girls who were entering the stage in life when marriage became more important than playing with dolls. No Lord, no Duke, not even a Gentleman would look twice at Annabeth, regardless of her soft beauty if she continued to behave like a buffoon! A peasant child, just like her mother Athena. Natalie should have kept on protesting when her moron of a brother married that harlot. Now the both of them were as good as dead and their sole child was an idiot. A pretty idiot, but an idiot regardless.
“It will take a while, the mountain is very steep as you can see,” Natalie replied, discontent deepening her voice.
Annabeth sighed yet again. Why couldn’t she just have stayed with her mother? Was her father really that sick? Was it that contagious? Her heart sank into her sleeve when she remembered the tired and worn look on her mother’s usually vivacious face. It broke Athena’s heart to give her only child away and then into the cold and unruly lands of Oliveira. The kingdom truly had seen better days. Now it was a vast land with bread that was as stale as its citizens and an unwelcoming coldness that even stayed during the summer months.
“The kingdom of Oliveira is cursed,” Annabeth’s father had explained years ago. “Staying there brings bad luck and makes your heart feel weary. I never felt happy the time I stayed there and my health issues continued to grow. Trust me, dearie. St. Helens is all you need. I never regretted leaving that place.”
According to their family legend, they were direct descendants of King Frederick and related to the current ruler King Chiron, like most of the patricians and noble people. All of the nobility were third or fourth cousins. No one in particular cared as the blood pool was already too shallow and marriage was still occuring within a class. Those deemed smart married from outside the city.
A curse that had been spoken out over a thousand years ago gifted the line of the Oliveirian king with further health issues allegedly. Annabeth didn’t believe in that sort of hearsay and fairy tales. She was interested in empiric evidence and science. But neither could she deny that the more the carriage moved upwards, the deeper she needed to breathe in to fill her lungs with air.
She looked up to her aunt who looked out of the small window of the carriage. Gray, nothing more than dark gray clouds. Annabeth pressed her hands together. She was nervous, she didn’t know how Natalie would react once found out about her dirty little secrets. One was related to the condition of her body, one was not.
Natalie Chase was a smart and prideful woman, just like Athena. She didn’t even care when her husband Frey openly danced with his mistress at the ball as she was trying to strategically marry her son to a preferably rich heiress whose dowry could pay off some of the debts Frey had accumulated. But of course, fate had other intentions in mind. Frey died outside of his Gentlemen’s club, robbed and beaten to bloody pulp as he had been unable to pay for the next boxing match and owed a high amount of money to the wrong people and shameful Magnus ran off with that horrid penniless person…
As much as Natalie detested her niece, Annabeth was her only hope, her only saving grace to get back into society and elevate her status again. So the older woman had begrudgingly accepted to invite her to Chase Mansion to train Annabeth with the help of her cousin Caroline Chase. She was glad that Caroline at least didn’t decide to take her annoying little brats with her this time. Natalie deemed those pesky children worse than the niece she was driving with, albeit Annabeth was merely a stranger to her, only connected to her family by the hair.
Randolph and Athena hadn’t done her a favor by raising her in St. Helens out of all places. With the lunacy and barbarity displayed there, it really shouldn’t have surprised Natalie how Annabeth had turned out. Abolishing the monarchy, treating men and women the same, how ludicrous!
Now young Annabeth was there, sitting in front of her at the ripe age of twenty one. Not too old to be married, but not young either. She would have to compete with debutants as old as seventeen. Natalie had the jarring suspicion that trying to break Annabeth would be a difficult task. The younger the mind, the easier it was to mold them. At her age, Annabeth should already have expected her second child. Natalie exhaled sharply.
A huge wave crashing into the cliff, merely missing the carriage by inches, made Annabeth shriek. “What? How?” she stuttered.
The sea used to be smooth just a few seconds ago, the rows of waves the young woman was able to see outside of her carriage window were calm. Where did the force come that pushed the water onto them? Annabeth stuck her head out, leaning forward to study the environment better. She could have sworn she saw a large dark shadow in the almost black water. If she could just nudge a little bit further and -
“Are you out of your mind?!” Natalie cried, pulling the distorted Annabeth into the carriage. Her sharp nails dug into Annabeth’s shoulder, nearly ripping the thin fabric of her dress. Her family truly wasn’t the richest.
“What?!” Annabeth knitted her eyebrows. She was surprised at her aunt's outburst as it appeared to come out of nowhere. “Did you just ignore that we nearly got hit by that massive wave that could have easily drowned us or pulled the carriage nearer towards the edge of the cliff?”
Then stern and oh so logical Natalie said something not so logical, “Do not lean over, else you agitate the sea beast and invite him to crush us entirely.”
Annabeth’s jaw fell open. Did her aunt seriously say those ridiculous words? A sea beast? A sea beast tossed a ball of sea water at them, like a small child threw a water bottle at a stray dog? Was Natalie Chase out of her mind, like her father had prophesied before her maid had packed her bags and her mother had called the carriage that would bring her to Oliveira? Annabeth would have loved to snort. She didn’t dare to laugh into her aunt’s face, Natalia seemed to be the unforgiving kind.
Natalie pressed her mouth into a thin line. So thin, it seemed like she didn’t possess any lips. “Did your father never speak about his heritage?!” The cold facade finally melted off her usually emotionless face. Redness crawled up her neck as anger, that was previously hinted at in her voice, completely took over.
Oh yeah. I hope I can bulldoze through this. Don’t want The Fool 2.0 on my hands 🤡🤡🤲🏾
I say. And will probably fail 🥴

i keep rereading all the dialogue prompt fics you’ve posted and i need.. more .... pls🥺
maybe number 6 for percabeth if you’re up for it?❤️
6.  “Do you want to get out of here?”
It was getting late. Estelle had already been put to bed – read two stories each by Percy and Annabeth – and, after that little hellion had fallen asleep, Sally had suggested they watch a movie. The movie had been watched and enjoyed. Paul, having school to think of in the morning, had said his goodnights as soon as the credits started rolling. With class also ahead of them first thing in the morning, Percy had figured that was a good time for him and Annabeth to think about heading home themselves. His mother, however, had refilled mugs of tea and settled in to chat a little longer.
That had been an hour ago. Now, Sally was doing a little late night tidying up. Percy figured it was time for him and Annabeth to think about heading home, since they also had class to think about first thing in the morning, but it seemed like Annabeth had other plans. She had curled up against Percy’s side on the couch and showed no signs she intended to move any time soon. If Percy was a betting man, he would’ve said she was a good ten seconds away from beginning to snore.
(Annabeth denied, adamantly, that she snored, but Percy had witnessed it himself on countless occasions and knew the truth.)
Even though he didn’t want to disturb Annabeth when she seemed so at peace, and when they were so close to his mother being able to back him up about her snoring, Percy decided to five her a gentle nudge. “Hey, Beth? It’s getting late. Do you want to get out of here?”
“No,” Annabeth replied, only stirring enough to nuzzle a little closer to him. “Let’s stay a little bit longer.”
“You’re just going to fall asleep,” he argued, though it was hard to fight her when she was acting so cute about it. “It’s only going to be harder to leave if we wait.”
“But I like it here,” she said, practically whining. If she got any cuter, Percy was going to be entirely useless at denying her whatever she wanted.
He attempted to have a semblance of a backbone though, gently rubbing her arm in an attempt at coaxing her further awake. “You’ll like it better at home in your own bed.”
Unconvinced, she shook her head. “I like it here.”
“Why?” Percy asked, all curiosity and no annoyance. He had to admit, he enjoyed hearing that she liked being at his parents’ place. It made him feel good about the fact they’d made standing plans to spend every other Sunday afternoon there, plans that would cut into his and Annabeth’s already limited alone time. Apparently she didn’t mind sharing.
“It feels like you here,” Annabeth explained, the words slow, quiet and lazy, evidence of how tired she’d become. “Being here makes me happy. Must’ve been a nice place to grow up.”
Percy hadn’t really grown up in that apartment. He’d moved there in high school, after his mom and Paul had gotten engaged. In reality, Percy had grown up in a series of apartments, many of which had been little more than closets, and falling apart on top of that. He still understood what Annabeth meant. Even though he hadn’t lived in particularly nice apartments, they had still been pretty great places to grow up, in the grand scheme of things, if only because his mom had been there, making the best of their circumstances.
“It wasn’t too bad,” Percy agreed, turning his head to get a better look at the woman beside him now. “It’s still a pretty nice place to be, too, you’re right.”
“Let’s stay like ten more minutes,” Annabeth suggested, shifting slightly against him to get more comfortable.
Sally appeared from the kitchen, leaning against the wall and observing them with a tiny smile. It never failed to make Percy’s heart break into a sprint when his mom looked at Annabeth that way – like Annabeth had always been hers to shower with love, and she intended to make up for all the years she hadn’t been able to do it as quickly as possible. Annabeth looked at Sally in much the same way, if not with a few more, very understandable, reservations. All of it confirmed what Percy himself had felt from the very beginning of his relationship with Annabeth – they were meant for this, to be together, to share their lives and their families, and build a future of their own one little block at a time.
“Why don’t I just make up the couch for you two so you can spend the night?” Sally offered, that fond smile on her lips only growing. “It’s late and you both look like you’d be better off just getting to sleep now.”
Annabeth lifted her head, blinking sleepily at Percy. “Can we?”
So rarely did Annabeth defer to Percy’s judgment with such entirety, Percy almost didn’t know what to do with himself. It did make sense, though. This was his family, so it was his choice, not that he had much of one when his mother was so clearly happy to have them and the woman he loved so completely content to be there.
“Yeah, it sounds like a good idea,” Percy agreed, reaching over to tuck a rogue ringlet behind Annabeth’s ear. Her sleepy, responding smile only made him that much more confident in his decision.
They managed to get themselves up just long enough to clean up a little in the bathroom. Percy had his own toothbrush at his parents’ place, but that night Annabeth got one of her own, too. When they returned to the living room, Sally had finished dressing the couch with blankets and pillows. It didn’t pull out, but Percy had no doubts they would be comfortable enough. He and Annabeth were disgustingly cuddly sleepers, anyway.
Both Percy and Annabeth were given hugs and forehead kisses goodnight before Sally finally turned in. Percy didn’t miss the way Annabeth’s cheeks flooded with pink when she got hers. If he hadn’t valued his life so much, he might have grabbed his phone and snapped a picture of her that way. Since he wished to live past the night, he had to settle for the mental image.
It didn’t take them long to get settled on the couch after that. Annabeth’s body, half on top of him and half wedged between him and the couch, was a comfortable and welcome weight. His fingers instinctively found their way into her hair, twirling strands around them in what had become a soothing nightly habit. Percy didn’t think he’d ever loved anything quite the way he loved falling asleep each night with Annabeth.
“Thanks for letting us stay,” Annabeth mumbled into the stillness of the night.
Staying would mean an even more rushed than usual Monday morning, but Percy thought it was worth it. “I’m just glad you like here so much.”
“I really do,” she confirmed, the reverence in her voice making it sound a little like a confession.
“I like being here with you, too,” he told her, thinking it just as much as a confession. Percy always liked being with his family, of course, but being there with her was a different kind of special. It made him feel complete.
She hummed softly, tilting her head to press a kiss against his jaw. “I love you.”
“I love you,” he echoed.
Percy wasn’t sure exactly when that had become their nightly ritual, saying I love you instead of a standard goodnight, but it was always one of his favorite parts of the day. If the world ended while they slept, he would have no regrets about those being his last words. He never failed to sleep a little more soundly having said them.

I am so tired of people who clearly do not understand Luke’s character one bit hate on him so much. Like did they forget everything he went through?
Did they forget about Luke being abused by his insane mother and homeless and running from monsters his entire childhood?
Did they forget how none of the gods ever helped him not even a tiny bit no matter how much he prayed for help?
Did they forget how Luke saw the truth about how bad the gods are and how little they cared for demigods-they’re own children-and he tried to do something about it?
Did they forget that Luke had to witness Thalia, Annabeth, and countless other children in the Hermès cabin struggle to stay alive just because they’re parents didn’t care about them enough to help more?
Did they forget how Luke a cabin counselor had to deal with a tiny overcrowded cabin where some kids were sleeping on the floor just because their paresnts were too lazy to claim them? (Percy slept on the floor of the Hermès cabin his first week at camp. )
Did they forget how Luke had to see his best friend almost die and get turned into a stupid pine tree when Zeus could have easily brought her back?
Did they forget how Luke prayed for two years for a quest to prove himself and the Hermes his father sends him on a little field trip to the Garden of Hesperides for some stupid unimportant to the gods golden apple?
Did they forget that Luke had to fight freaking Ladon-a gaint dragon with 100 heads sharp fangs spits poison and razor sharp claws that permanently scarred his face-all by himself?
Did they forget that Garden of Hesperides is on top of Mt. Tamapais? Did they forget that’s also the location of Mt. Otheysis? AKA the location of the Titans head quarters?
Did people forget that this is most likely where Luke was corrupted by Kronos?
Did they forget how Hermès-and the other gods-already knew about the Titans setting up camp around Mt Tam and Hermès choose to send Luke up there anyway for a stupid golden apple that didn’t mean anything to the gods?
Did they forget that Luke was just a possibly mentally ill 16 year old that had been screwed over and over again by the gods-and had to watch other demigods be screwed over by the gods too- and hated the gods with a passion for a good reason?
Did they forget how broken and lost Luke was by the age of 16?
Did they forget how Kronos slipped his voice into Luke’s head and saw exactly how he felt and told him he could make things better for demigods and get revenge on the gods?
Did they forget Kronos was the one to groom a mentally ill teenage boy who was desperate for a better world into accepting Kronos and all his evil plans?
Did they forget how Kronos instructed Luke on every little thing he did? Like having contact with Silena and giving her the spy bracelet, people understand that was Kronos idea that he forced Luke to do right?
Did they forget when Luke realized what Kronos was planning is evil it was already too late for him to escape?
Did they forget all the years of mental verbal and sometimes physical abuse Luke went through all by the people/entities that were supposed to take care of him or said they would take care of him?
Did they forget how Luke tried to get help multiple times from Annabeth and Thalia cause those were the only people he truly trusted before Kronos possess him but every time his former best freinds turned him down or Kronos stopped him?
(Thalia and Annabeth did the right thing turning him down though. Luke was already too far gone and practically possessed by Kronos already. I knew there was no possibility of saving him after that scene in Titans Curse.)
Also what is it people calling Luke a pedo? You took that one scene in The Last Olympian WAY out of context. (I’m not counting the Luke/Silena thing cause that was Kronos’s idea he forced Luke to do).
Luke meant “did you love me like family? Were we a family? Are we still family or have you disowned me? But he’s literally dying right now and in a lot of pain so “did you love me” was probably all he could get out.
Annabeth took that out of context thinking about her childhood admiring/hero worshiping crush on Luke so she said “you were like a brother to me but I didn’t love you”. Luke probably assumed that meant yes they were a family but she disowned him
Luke had been screwed over his entire life by by his mom, dad, the gods, and later on his best freinds but he was a good kid who could have grown up into a decent man. If only an evil Titan lord didn’t corrupt and groom him as a mentally ill teenager.
Luke made a mistake. But if you were in his shoes you probably would have made the same mistake.
And if you read the entire pjo series, and you read all the way through this post, and you still think Luke Castellan is the bad guy......Don’t interact with this post at all. In fact go ahead and block me.

Sore Losers
A/N: This was meant to be a simple one shot but I couldn’t help myself and now it’s a twoshot because I’m extra af. I hope you enjoy it and please comment!
Summary: Percy and Annabeth are both the most competitve people to ever exist by far. So when they both lead teams in a match of Capture the Flag Paintball edition, a very fun game ends up becoming a battle. Annabeth and Percy also happen to be the biggest pair of sore losers out there.
Word count: 3.8K
Tagging: @showtunesandsolangelo
Chapter I
Let it be known that Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase were both the biggest pair of sore losers on this side of the Atlantic. You’d think that a large group of teenagers at a paintballing park would cause a lot of trouble. Yes, yes they would indeed. But not nearly as much trouble a group of traumatised teenage demigods could cause.
They had 1 rule- don't use any powers.
However, the demigods were never really much good at following rules.
Percy promised Annabeth that his team would win and Annabeth, unable to help herself, boasted back how amazing her team were going to be. It was quite obvious how their fatal flaws- hubris and loyalty- were going to be their downfall in a game of paintball.
“Oi! You two stop flirting and get on the damned bus, would you!” Piper shouted from the window seat with Hazel to her. The yellow bus was warm due to the sunny weather outside and it smelt like teenagers.
“We aren’t flirting!” Annbeth protested violently as she threw her sports bag over her shoulder while climbing the steps. Percy, being the gentleman he was, took the bag off her shoulder and carried it for her- not that it was truly hard.
“Even I can tell that you’re flirting,” Leo called out from the back where his fingers idly fiddled with some copper wire, a battery and a nail- it seemed like he was making an electromagnet.
“Can you blame me if Percy thinks his team is going to win Pipes?” Annabeth turned around in her seat.
“That’s because we are going to win,” Will commented with a hint of sarcasm from the side of the bus where Percy’s team sat. Nico, who sat next to Reyna and was on Annabeth’s team, was more invested in fidgeting with his rings until Will spoke up.
“Says you, traitor,” He snorted.
“Death boy, it’s a game. You chose Annabeth's team- it would be unfair if we were on the same team. Besides, If anything, I should be upset. You chose Annabeth's team after I chose Percy’s!”
Nico refused to answer, his arm clinging to Reyna who barely took notice and smirked at the boy’s ego’s.
“How sad must it be that you genuinely believe that you will win?” Reyna was about to sheath her spear when Hazel put her hand on hers.
“Reyna! We aren’t allowed to bring weapons. We need to prove we can beat them without weapons!” Hazel argued.
“Having second thoughts over there?” Frank called out from beside Jason. Hazel stuck her tongue out at him- he pulled a funny face in return. While these two were considered the most mature, when they were talking to each other, they were no better than 5 year olds.
The venue was huge. It was like an abandoned forest with upside down vehicles, camo everywhere and at least 3 places to get perfectly shot in the head- not that it was allowed. There was a specific reason behind the demigods choosing to go paintballing- they were never trained to use guns. It was something that none of them were familiar in, thus they were all at a completely fair level. Had they been sword fighting, they would have all destroyed each other. They had to pull on protection suits- which were also camouflage.
“Okay, this is to capture the flag but in paintball. You’re all familiar with capturing the flag- the only difference here is instead of our regular weapons, today we have these peculiar things…” Calypso trailed off slightly.
“Guns,” Hazel and Nico finished off together. The entire squad gave an alarmed look at them saying Why in the name of Hades do you know that? In sync, they both replied.
“World War 1,” Hazel sighed.
“Hitler,” Nico grunted, kicking at the floor. A couple of scattered snorts came from the group who could not picture them in the 1900s.
“Enough enemy mingling! Comrades, let us unite to beat the Owls!” Percy commanded his group comedically. Nico raised his eyebrow at the communist joke while everyone laughed slightly.
“I see you’ve learnt something in History- let’s find out if your seaweed brain can figure out how to surrender shall we?” Annabeth challenged as she took steps towards Percy, her hands resting on her hips confidently- Her hubris was showing. She half expected Percy to slip his hand around her waist or try and show off like she did but instead, he turned to his team and began frantically whispering.
The game was so on.
“Okay, this is it. We go in, storm the boys and capture their flag,” Annabeth decided.
“And don't forget to shoot as many of them as you can!” Piper added and the group happily agreed.
“Okay Comrades, Mission ‘infiltrate’ the owls is about to end- when we meet at what I like to call No man's land, we shall take their flag while they attempt to take ours. Will, guard our flag- the rest of you, position ourselves in the formation we discussed earlier. Jason and Leo, you’re my backup soldiers if I’m down,” Percy announced. The boys nodded and prepared for the plan.
Annabeth was crouching, gun in hand with Hazel behind her. Annabeth's blonde hair made her stand out a bit whereas Hazel had a greater advantage- from a vantage point, one wouldn’t even be able to see her. As Annabeth approached through the clearing she froze. Up ahead was a dangerous place. No bushes, no trees, no cars- she’d be totally exposed to whatever Percy was plotting. She did not doubt that he had some person watching this area, ready to release fire on any enemies. Annabeth was going to wait, she crouched by the bush before the clearing and kept her gun pointed and her eyes on the lookout.
She was about to move when paint balls began exploding all around her. The sound ricocheted in her ears and the droplets of paint remained floating about in the air. The boys had planned an ambush! Annabeth knew she had 2 options- retreat and play defensive or attack and play offensive.
“Hazel, you’re in charge. Nico, you’re coming with me. Make sure Reyna is still guarding the flag!” She whisper- shouted as she began running across No Mans Land with Nico trailing close behind her. He may or may not have been using his powers to bring shards of earth encased in shadows to protect himself and Annabeth from the shower of paintballs heading towards them. Nobody really needed to know- besides, he was forbidden from using death powers, not earthly ones.
“Nico, I hear something,” Annabeth warned. The sound of crackling and rushing water surrounded them.
“It’s coming from the creak…,” Nico mumbled.
They both made eye contact, agreeing on a time to run. 3 ,2 ,1- Now! They began sprinting, dodging the rocks and the flames which were scattered across the field. The other team were really going all out and being ruthless. Leo had set half of their frontier on fire that was only being controlled by the fact that Percy had a lot of water coming in from the creak preventing the fire from spreading too far. Flashes of light came striking down on the trees, causing crackles in the trees. There were echoes of thunder rumbling throughout their section and the smell of carbon monoxide slowly rising into the air.
The tree that had been struck by lightning was causing an awful mount of crackling, a bit too much for comfort. It wasn’t until the distinct sound of a tree snapping did Annabeth and Nico realise that the tree in front of them was falling.
Directly. Onto. them.
Back at Annabeth's side of the frontier, Hazel had decided to play dirty and get powers involved. It was only fair, was it not? Piper, Reyna and Calypso were all very happy to oblige to this. They had restructured their battle plan with Piper guarding the flag and using her charmspeak if necessary. Hazel, Calypso and Reyna were at the front, using their powers to their advantage. Reyna had not decided to use her empowerment- it wasn’t necessary and it was never comforting knowing she had made her friends feel brave; she felt like she was manipulating them whenever she did use it.
“So Hazel, what were you saying about not using weapons?” Reyna raised an eyebrow as she impressively pulled out her spear of imperial gold, glimmering in the sunlight. Hazel who sheathed her Spatha simply shrugged.
“Calypso are you ready?” Hazel asked, slightly concerned- she didn't want to overwork her so quickly after she had only just started to get her magic back.
“You think I’m going to let Leo win?” She scoffed slightly as she raised her hands slightly, the magical aura around them visible.
“We have a battle to win,” Reyna announced.
Nico grabbed onto Annabeth and closed his eyes. She felt herself slip into the darkness with Nico- the moment was awful. Dark, cold and creepy whisperings surrounded her. She did not want to know how Nico was able to do that. As he pulled them out the shadows, Nico dropped to his knees, trying to catch his breath. His eyes looked significantly tired post- shadow travelling.
“Don’t tell Will, he’ll go crazy if he found out that I shadow travelled,” he said weakly, his hand clutching his ribs. Annabeth slowly helped him up to his feet, only one gun still with the both of them- Nico had dropped his when he had to shadow travel them.
“Nico, I’ve got another plan if you’re up for it,” Annabeth offered. She leaned over and whispered her strategy. The corners of Nico’s lips twisted upwards into a cruel smile- cold and menacing. Was this plan extremely dangerous if one part went wrong? Probably. But Nico decided he liked the idea of winning too much to really care.
He dug his feet into the ground again, pushing every ounce of energy into controlling the shadows. He needed to keep this accurate- too much and Hazel’s side of the field goes dark, too little and Percy’s team will be able to see what's coming.
Slowly, shadows covered every inch of Percy’s field. Nico and Annabeth were grasping onto each other, Nico was holding onto her for strength while Annabeth was staying with the only person who could control what was happening. The only light that was visible were the fires ignited by Leo but by now, they were weak. All they had to do was wait for a figure to light up their hands- all the members would flock to the light, except whoever was protecting the flag.
“What just happened?” Percy yelled as he followed the stream of water that led to the fires.
“Someone’s using their powers… probably Nico, I can hear whisperings and these shadows are really cold!” Leo responded, lifting his hands up to signal his location to his teammates- though that may have not been a good idea. A giant flash of light came striking down to the ground again and the loud rumble of thunder came soon after, only adding to the creepiness of the game.
“It’s definitely Nico using powers which means he’s somehow gotten through our borders,” Jason gritted out. They all looked at each other agreeing to search for the son of Hades.
“Nico, you can summon the skeletons now, right?” Annabeth asked as she supported Nico on her shoulder. Feebly, Nico nodded while trying to summon some of his own strength. His skin which had almost returned to it’s olive hue was now close to a deathly pale. Annabeth could feel his cold fingers and slightly shivered- it was like holding a corpse. The ground started cracking, the earth splitting open as a skeletal arm reached out, climbing into the real world. Within a minute, Nico had summoned enough skeletons for the plan to work.
Annabeth knew what had to happen next- she would either run after the flag or go drive the remainder of Percy’s team far back enough so that her team could attack them from behind. She cherished the idea of getting the flag, a truly victorious moment, but she knew that if she went after the flag, she’d be sending Nico who seemed as fragile as glass right now to go fight 4 of the most powerful demigods. She decided to take her chances- hopefully whoever was guarding the flag wasn’t too hard for Nico.
“Nico, here take the gun and go after the flag. I will push back the other team.”
“I don’t need that- you’re going to be 4 against one, take it.” He batted his hand, refusing to allow Annabeth to hand over her gun to him.
“Nic-”
“-If you want to actually win this, you need your gun. You don’t stand a chance fighting 4 of them alone. Take the gun,” He managed to snap. Annabeth actually smiled at this. If Nico could give her snappy comebacks, then he still had a bit of strength in him. She kept her gun as she ran into the shadows, the skeleton army close behind.
“Does the other side look kinda funny?” Hazel asked, tilting her head to the side with her spatha in hand.
“It’s...it’s dark. I can't see anything there,” Calypso responded, slightly shocked.
What in the name of the gods was going on over there?
It seemed that the answer hit Reyna and Hazel at the same time- Nico! Not that they were about to admit it, but they were a tad concerned- you know, if you saw pure shadows just floating about, you would also be slightly concerned.
“We should move ourselves further up the frontier into No Mans Land. Annabeth must have planned something with Nico.” Calypso announced. They all agreed and moved further downwards, cautious for any ambushes.
“Oh Annabeth, aren’t you meant to be the smart one? You know, daughter of Athena?” Percy mockingly asked as she approached them, the shadows encasing most of her but not enough to go unnoticed. The skeletons however, were hiding perfectly in the dark.
“And where is the little shit?” Jason looked around Annabeth, trying to see if Nico had hid himself among the shadows- something that wouldn’t be too hard for him.
“Technically this is cheating,” Leo pointed out. Annabeth snapped her head towards him, still wondering where the skeletons were.
“We weren’t the ones who started it- if I remember correctly, you literally almost crushed us under a tree.”
“That was an accident,” Jason sheepishly rubbed his head.
“Don't think you can walk in here without being defeated, Wise girl.”
“If all 4 of you are going to fight me, I think all guns should be prohibited- does that sound fair Jackson?”
“3. All 3 of us. Frank has been… patrolling.” Leo rubbed his hands mysteriously. Annabeth wanted to gasp, they had been cheating from the beginning, using Frank as surveillance on them.
“Well since you were cheating from the very beginning, you definitely cannot use your guns,” Annabeth protested, enforcing her plan. The boy shrugged and threw their guns to the floor- Annabeth did the same but the gun was still close enough for… a change of heart. Fire raged from Leo’s hands, Percy had Riptide in hand and Jason had his Gladius, the charge of lighting running through it. Annabeth had to try to not visibly gulp- Where on earth were the skeletons? Here getting toasted was not part of the plan. She could only start to take them one when the distraction was set.
Nico forcibly pushed his foot one in front of another, searching for the flag. The entire half of the arena was covered like a blanket. The only light source being Leo’s fire and the occasional fires that Nico let loose through the ground to help him see. Up head, Nico could see another light source- did he just walk himself into a circle? He couldn’t see Leo or any fires. In fact all he really saw was light.
Light?
He trudged forwards, keeping to the shadows. As he got closer, he realised the light source was Will- his skin was the lightsource, literally. It was like he was watching a firefly for the first time- Will was glowing! No, focus Nico. The game, the flag. Capture it and reign victorious with Annabeth.
“Frank, dude, get off my shoulder,” Jason said. As the hand remained on his shoulder, Jason grew slightly agitated and turned around before jumping back and letting out a scream of surprise. Catching the attention of Percy and Leo, the skeletons began to close in on them. Now was Annabeth's chance. While the skeletons pushed them back, hopefully Hazel would have the team ready for an ambush on all sides.
“You’re very shiny today,” Nico commented.
“Well if you didn’t plunge us into semi- eternal darkness, I wouldn’t be a night light,” Will retorted crossing his arms.
“I’ve always wanted my own personal nightlight. Also now, I have an actual justification to call you sunshine- you’re literally glowing.”
“Quit laughing at me.”
“I’m not laughing at you… I’m just stealing,” Nico shrugged as he made a dash for the flag. Will scrambled for his gun but it was too late, Nico had pulled the flag into the shadows- the paintballs from Will’s gun had only hit the tree that Nico had once stood in front of. As Nico emerged from his travelling, the shadows that once covered the entire field started fading.
With their guns strapped to their backs, Hazel and the team made their way across No Mans Land- trying to avoid the shower of paintballs from the other side.
“You made a machine gun out of this?” Hazel asked in dismay as she dodged the fireball coming from Leo.
“I am Admiral Leo, of course I made a machine gun, Hazel.”
“Hazel, on your left!”
Hazel swiftly ducked a paintball coming her left which proceeded to hit Leo square in the chest. He groaned as he felt the bruise start to form across his chest. Saddened by getting hit, he fell to the ground dramatically.
“Oh I’m wounded! Tell Calypso I might not make it!”
“Tell her yourself,” a voice snorted. Jason and Reyna were both fighting- Jason’s gladius would come down harshly onto Reyna’s spear, who continuously tried to disarm him. When Jason came down again with his sword, Reyna twisted her spear towards the hilt and pushed the butt of her spear upwards successfully disarming the sword with a clatter from his hands. She placed her foot on the sword and kicked it backwards, away from Jason before she dropped her spear.
“Hand to hand?” Jason asked. Reyna did not reply and instead charged towards him.
Calypso was trying to not get set on fire- while Leo had been shot, he was not about to let her win so easily. Her magic could only do so much and it annoyed her that Leo was setting everything on fire.
“Calypso, don’t you have telekinesis?” Annabeth shouted nodding towards Leo as she dodged another slash from Percy. Calypso got the memo and closed her eyes, harvesting as much power as she could. Being an ex-titaness came with it’s privileges from time to time. She opened her eyes and flung her hands towards Leo. Easily, she threw him into the creek where he landed with an ‘oomph’ and a very loud curse word that will not be repeated.
Piper hated being the guard. Everyone was probably having a blast and here she was, away from the action. There was a buzzing noise that was annoying her and she really did not want to deal with it. She had one of her daggers clutched in her hand while the gun was slung over her shoulder. She had gotten so bored that she had resorted to talking to the crow opposite her who had just sat there. It would tilt its head every once in a while when she said anything that could be deemed controversial.
Suddenly, the crow flew towards her, as to rest on her shoulder but instead, went towards the flag. Nothing wrong there, just a crow going towards a flag. Afterall it wasn’t as if it was trying to pull it out of the ground. Just as Piper turned around to see what the crow was really doing, she caught Frank with his hand wrapped around the flag, smiling and saluting towards her as he turned around and ran, flag in hand. Piper swore she had run as fast she ever had in her entire life, trying to get her charmspeak to work. The panting did not help her.
Annabeth slashed her knife in Percy’s direction, missing him by a millimeter as he stepped back to avoid it. Riptide came back at her, instead of it going for a blow to the chest as she expected, Percy aimed for her feet. As he wanted, she tripped and fell but her knife was still in hand. Just as she was about to use it, Riptide was held under her chin- she could feel the cool metal of it as Percy smirked and lightly teased her neck with it.
“You know Miss Brainiac, you really have yourself in a bad position, giving up would be easy, wouldn't it?”
“Jackson, you are enjoying this too much. I think you’ve forgotten the point.” Annabeth grabbed Riptide and twisted it before roling backwards slightly and throwing herself forwards. The sword clattered to the ground making Percy pout slightly but he wasn’t disheartened. Annabeth backslashed towards Percy who grabbed her arm, rendering the weapon in hand useless.
Annabeth had one last plan.
She leaned forwards and pressed her lips against Percy. It was quick and daring and Percy certainly did not expect it. Their lips met gently- it was comforting, warm and soft. Their lips brushed and when she pulled away lightly, he could taste her chapstick.
“Ouch!” Percy yelped as he jumped away from Annabeth and let go of her wrist. She held the knife under his chin and winked at Nico who held the gun with the flag under his arm. There was a giant yellow splatter on his back.
“That's not fair!” Percy sputtered. “ You seduced me!”
“All's fair in love and war.” Annabeth winked.
“I’ve got it! I’ve got the flag!” Frank gasped slightly- mainly due to being out of breath. He looked at Jason who was on the ground, Leo who was soaking, Percy who had a massive paintball splatter on his back and then at Nico who was holding the flag.
“We planned this. To make you win. We were taking it easy on you guys,” Frank decided. All the boys nodded in agreement only making Annabeth's teams chuckle.

So I am rewatching the Percy Jackson Peter Johnson movie, and I just thought I’d make an official post for all my icks with it.
Why? Cause I like to rant? Idk.
First off, characters:
The age thing threw me off. They’re sixteen? Seriously? Why did they think that was a good idea? Did they want it to be a full-out series or not?
Leaves less room for character growth, both physically and mentally- and romantically (which I will get to in a bit).
Plus, the way the characters are written in the books is meant to fit twelve year olds, so everything they do feels off. Pessimistic 12 year old Percy was so funny. Like his sass would genuinely catch me off guard, because he’s so freaking young and you don’t really expect him to be so fearless and rash. Movie Percy does have sass and the awkward pessimist thing down pretty much to a ‘t’, but the way the right it can come off a bit corny, despite Logan Lerman’s best acting. Boy does the guy do a great job. His performance almost overshadows the bad writing, but not quite. Gods, the Capture-the-Flag tripping all falling over himself thing was fabulous, though the rest of the scene didn’t quite match up (do they even know how that game works??) Also,,, later corniness. Again. I don’t really care about the eyes thing, because blue is still the color of the ocean.
Annabeth is way too aggressive. Why is she so eager to slice-and-dice him even though they’ve never officially met? I guess she took the place of Clarisse in that way, but WHY. Clarisse had reason; Percy humiliated her and her cabin. If they wanted to get him to heal in the water and such, that could’ve been achieved if they had just followed the freaking books. They just… butchered her character in so many ways. Her appearance, the handy dandy Yankees ball cap, all that. The whole purpose of her being blonde was to discount the stupid dumb blonde stereotype and feed into her need to prove herself to everyone. That was taken away too.
Speaking of which… Grover. Baby boi, they ruined you. I didn’t mind them making him black… until they made him all party-like and confident. That may have not had to do with his race, though, and just trying to make him act more like the satyrs from the myths. But that defeats the point that Rick made; he purposefully made Grover scared and stressed and doing his best all the time as a foil to that stereotype- which is made obvious when the Party Ponies come into play in the second book. I miss that Grover. Also, why was he just like standing around during the disaster of the Minotaur scene (Gods, they made that so lame). It would’ve been better if he was unconscious, because then he wasn’t just standing around. I could’ve excused it as him just being reluctant because he’s scared, but this Grover is brave and more protective, a better fighter. Why would he just stand and watch? There are just so many things that don’t add up.
Chiron and Luke were really the only characters that felt true to their book forms.
The stand-off between Luke and Percy was cool, but the plot twist in the book is just so much better. I was totally blown away by the easy-going camp counselor dude poisoning a twelve year old kid with scorpion venom. Also, Luke got his scar from Percy? NOOO. It was never about Percy. It was about Luke and his dad. Percy was just a means to an end or an enemy to get rid of.
Gods, they forgot the prophecy, too. And Ares. And Clarisse. And Mr. D.
I don’t even want to talk about Hades. Or Persephone, for that matter. Why was she there? It wasn’t winter and- nope, not even. Just nope.
Riptide is a ballpoint pen, not a clicky one (though this one is admittedly cooler. WE NEED THE TARTARUS SCENE WHERE HE ANNABETH FIGURES OUT HE CAN WRITE WITH IT). And the shield thingy… that’s Tyson’s. He made it in the second one.
The thing is, Rick ties everything into his later works, so many of the changes they made mess with future possibilities and therefore narrow the rest of everything.
I understand not having every scene, every detail included in the movies. But why keep things if you’re going to change them?
Why have the hydra come in this movie? It comes in the second book, bro.
WHERE ARE THE ORANGE CAMP HALF-BLOOD SHIRTS??
Oh, right I was supposed to have topics. Sorry, everything is blending in together.
uh… ROMANCE.
Why was Grover a ladies man :|
What the Tartarus were they doing with Percabeth? Long, kinda creepy stares and close contact. THIS STUPID LINE: “I definitely have strong feelings for you. I just haven’t decide if they’re positive or negative yet.”
Like,,, EW. Is this supposed to be the “You drool in your sleep” replacement? How about no.
They took away the cute little crushes and slow-burn friends to lovers (even though it kinda started off as enemies).
MOMMA’S BOY
every moment Percy had with his mom was so awful. Why is he using “mother” so much? That’s only for his dad, because they haven’t reached the kind of relationship where Percy can call him Dad. I wanted to see the scene with her coming home from the candy shop with a big bag of candy and him pretending to be cranky when she shows affection but you can tell he loves it and ughhhhh
WHY
What did I like? The music. The Lotus flowers and casino scene. The pearl plot line thing was admittedly smart, but overall problematic and questionable. Why the Parthenon? Why not Crusty’s?
I do also like Percy and Grover’s bud relationship, but Annabeth was supposed to be his guide of a sort. So they either could’ve had them both guide him, or her alone. We needed more time to get to know her.
Where was Cerberus? I guess they didn’t want a repeat of Fluffy in The Sorceror’s Stone (since this is the same director), but still. He’s a major part of the Underworld system. And I wanted fancy Italian suit Charon and the “died in a bathtub” scene. The Hellhounds were also creepy, so how does the whole Mrs. O’Leary thing work? Also, makes me wonder why they didn’t have Percy be attacked by one during Capture-the-Flag like in the books.
ALSO WHY DID GROVER STAY? WHY? The Sally I know would never let him do that. Also, Sally can’t even get through the boundaries and into Olympus anyway, so why…? Why.
Persephone being all weird and flirty to Grover was just… ew. Again. Ew ew ew ew.
Hades is not the bad guy, he just came across a situation he could take advantage of. It doesn’t make sense that Luke would get it to Hades and Hades alone. It gets rid of the whole Kronos thing.
And the prophecies were gone, too. I know they brought them up in the second one, but not very well. The second one retconned the first’s continuity and yet still sucked on representing the second one. Yeesh.
Anyway, that’s my spill. I could organize it better, but I’m too tired at this point.

a little misunderstanding can hurt a lot
uh this was sitting in my drafts even tho i posted it to ao3 already? okay... anyways here u go
read on ao3
the turnaround had happened so quickly. one second, annabeth was elated, sitting in his bed as he went to make them hot chocolate, thinking about how percy was so impossibly caring and loving, unlike anything she’d ever experienced. and the next second, she had felt a tiny, sharp stab on her calf. she reached down under the sheets until her fingers found the small piece of metal. she picked it up, holding it in her palm to inspect it, and her stomach dropped.
it was an earring. a little stud with a light pink gem. she stared at it, unable to stop her anxiety from rising.
annabeth didn’t wear earrings. her ears weren’t even pierced. so why was there one in the sheets of his bed?
she racked her brain, trying to think of any possible conclusions. everyone who knew percy said he was the most loyal person they knew, so him cheating didn’t seem possible. but as hard as she tried, she couldn’t think of any other reason to find someone else’s earring in his bed.
footsteps approached the room and annabeth’s hand closed around the earring, as she steeled her nerves. percy pushed the door open with his foot, carrying two mugs. there must’ve been something easily readable in her expression because his eyebrows furrowed as he set the mugs down on his nightstand. “what’s up?”
annabeth opened her hand, revealing the pink stud on her palm. “this was in your bed,” she said, careful to keep her voice level. percy stared at it for a second, blinking. annabeth braced herself for whatever excuse was about to come.
“oh!” he exclaimed, taking it from her hand. “that’s where that was, she’s been looking for this!”
annabeth swallowed, dropping her hand into her lap. “she?”
he smiled, seemingly unaware of her unsettled anxiety. “the other night, estelle and i had a movie night and a sleepover with a whole fort and everything. yesterday morning, mom realized she only had one earring in.”
estelle, annabeth thought. his seven year old sister. of course.
“oh,” she said, nodding slowly.
percy, still oblivious to her mood, closed his fist around the earring. “is the back somewhere in there too?”
annabeth blinked. “i don’t know, i didn’t really look,” she said quietly, moving back and lifting the sheets. it took a minute of them searching, but sure enough, the little silver backing was there too.
“let me go give this to mom real quick,” he said, leaving the room. annabeth covered her hands with her face, exhaling. how had she not thought of his sister? when she heard him returning, she quickly dropped her hands.
percy re-entered his room, shutting his door behind him and crawling into his bed. he grabbed the two mugs from before, handing her one. “m’lady,” he said.
“thank you,” she whispered, wrapping her hands around the warm ceramic. percy finally realized something was wrong as he heard her voice. his eyes flickered over her face.
“you okay?” he asked. annabeth shrugged. percy quickly set his mug back down and wrapped an arm around her waist. “what’s wrong?”
oh nothing, she thought. i just briefly thought you were cheating on me, only for me to be a complete idiot in the end.
annabeth bit her lip, handing her hot chocolate back to him for it to be set back down. once both of their hands were free, he held her closer and annabeth melted into him, ashamed to ever even think he would do something like cheat.
“you remember how i told you luke cheated on me?” she whispered. percy nodded, unfazed by the mention of her ex boyfriend. annabeth took a small breath. “well, i found out by finding another girl’s underwear in his bed.”
her gaze dropped to her hands, not wanting to look him in the eye. “and it’s stupid but when i found that earring… my mind assumed the worst and…” she shrugged halfheartedly, unable to finish the sentence.
“oh, beth,” he murmured, pulling her close and kissing her head. “i’m sorry.”
annabeth looked up at him. “you don’t have to apologize, you did nothing wrong,” she said quickly.
“i know,” he said, lifting a hand to tuck hair behind her ear. “but still. i’m sorry you ever had to go through that. you didn’t deserve that.”
tucking her head back into the crook of his neck, annabeth nodded slightly. “i’m sorry i even assumed that, though. i know you would never. my mind still just... went there, though.”
“no, baby, it’s okay. i understand why you assumed the worse after what happened to you, it makes sense. i’m not upset with you for thinking that.” he pulled back and cupped her cheeks, making their eyes lock. “as long as you know i would never even think of doing something like that.”
he said it so seriously, with such finality, annabeth almost teared up. he made it so easy to trust and believe him wholeheartedly. “i don’t deserve you,” she whispered.
percy’s eyebrows furrowed like she’d said something crazy. “you deserve the world,” he said easily, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
she stared at him. i already have it, she almost said. but a confession that deep after less than two months of dating scared her, regardless of how true it was. instead, she smiled a little and quietly said, “thank you.”
he brought her face closer and kissed her, allowing warmth to overcome her body. when he pulled away, percy smiled. “okay, no more sad. we have hot chocolate and movies and cuddles and we’re okay, yeah?”
and as crazy as it was, he was right. she was okay now. moments earlier, she had been expecting this amazing thing they had built to crumble beneath them and instead, they were okay. happy, even. “yeah,” she smiled.
less than a minute later, they were cuddled up together with his tv on and their mugs in hand. he’d let annabeth pick a movie first and because she loved to see him suffer, she’d picked a scary movie.
“that’s fine,” he said. “it just means you have to hold me when i get scared.” which she had been planning on doing anyways.
hours later, percy was drifting in and out of consciousness when annabeth decided it was time to sleep. “sleep,” he mumbled. “yes. good.”
“very good,” she agreed softly, shutting off the tv, leaving them in darkness. as tired as he was, he still made the effort to pull her closer and adjust them until she was comfortable. with her head buried in his chest, she felt more at peace than she ever had, maybe in her entire life.
“goodnight, perce,” she whispered.
“night, beth,” he murmured. “love you.”
annabeth’s eyes, which had been closed, popped open. he hadn’t seemed to realize his confession as she felt his breathing slowly begin to even out. for a second, she’d wondered if she’d imagined them. maybe she was already asleep and she was dreaming?
but something told her that wasn’t the case, and he had actually just told her that he loved her. annabeth bit her lip as a smile grew on her face.
she could easily pretend this never happened and let him have the chance to say it when he was fully awake, or better yet, she catch him off guard by saying it first. but instead, the idea of teasing him relentlessly about this being the first time he said those words sounded much more appealing.
“i love you, too,” she murmured into his shirt.
when they woke up the next morning, it took annabeth approximately two minutes to crack, telling him about what he’d said the night before. (he was hardly embarrassed though, considering she said it back right after she told him.)

Ma'am pls I need to know about that sg1/pjo thing you so casually mentioned.. like you cant just drop that on us with no explanation >:/
thank you @spacey-iris for waiting so long for this answer!!! And, here we go...
OMG OKAY HEAR ME OUT BECAUSE THIS IS MY FAVORITE FANDOM IDEA I HAVEN'T SPEWED ON THIS BLOG YET
Full disclosure: in middle school I was Percy Jackson OBSESSED. Writing this post is bringing back memories...ahhh, the good old days before Blood of Olympus came out and I swore off HOO forever...
Going through it carefully, I seriously wonder if Rick Riordan was watching Stargate when he started creating this world. It's no wonder I love Stargate now.
Jack O'Neill = Percy Jackson
I mean, c'mon! It couldn't be more perfect! Both of them are smartasses, have decided it's their life work to act dumb even though they're actually smart as hell. Both of them have ADHD and are VERY fidgety. Jack's a lot more tragic than Percy, because he's fifty instead of sixteen. But they act exactly the same, are loyal to a fault, and wayyyyy too humble. Not to mention they both fall in love with blonde geniuses who laugh at their stupid jokes and are driven NUTS by their dumb acts! Totally the same person.
Sam Carter = Annabeth Chase
I mentioned this already a little. But again, could they be more similar?! Both geniuses who are unafraid to show their smarts. Badass in a fight, and ALSO the person who will draw up a plan to save the world. Both have slightly inept fathers and absent mothers. Both are a little confused when it comes to love, and both of them are tomboys. Plus, they look similar? Like, Annabeth could literally be a teenage Sam Carter? Okay. I'm done.
Daniel + Teal'c = Grover + Tyson
This part isn't quite as perfect, but the combination of Daniel and Teal'c still manages to give off the exact same effect as Grover and Tyson? Daniel's got Grover's clumsiness, Grover's penchant for trouble, but Tyson's innocence. Teal'c has Grover's wisdom and the whole "outsider" perspective Grover and/or Tyson often bring, but he also has Tyson's giant-strongman thing going for him. They both love food in the same way Grover and Tyson love food (okay, now I want a fic where Teal'c tries to eat Louis XVI furniture).
Janet = Thalia
You KNOW I'm right. Same no-nonsense attitude, same attitude towards Jack/Percy. Annabeth and Thalia are besties, Janet and Sam are besties. Okay, Thalia is taller. But with her ability to command the infirmary, Ms. Napoleonic Power Monger could totally pass for a child of Zeus, right?
Hammond = Chiron
I think this one is obvious? Very tired mentors/grandpas who never, never get any time off and have to deal with the fallout of ALL the shenanigans. At least Hammond isn't stuck in a wheelchair outside of the SGC.
Miscellaneous thoughts
does that make...Frank Cromwell...Luke Castellan??
I NOW WANT TO MEET JACK'S MOM MORE THAN EVER IT IS A CRIME WE NEVER GOT TO MEET HIS FAMILY
OH MY GOD IS JUNIPER SHA'RE THAT IS HEARTBREAKING
clarisse is totally maybourne
oh my god walter and siler are connor and travis stoll
Chain Reaction = that early part of Sea of Monsters where Chiron is gone and the camp is just NUTS
who from SG-1 is Zoe Nightshade? idk
Percy is about the right age to be Jack's kid. Oh my god Percy could be Charlie.
Does that make Sara equivalent to Rachel?!
Pete just doesn't exist. Because I don't think Annabeth ever dates anyone else? I like this reality
FUCK SILENA IS MAKEPEACE
Bekendorf (i know i am spelling his name incorrectly, i have not cracked the spines on these books for at least five years, cut me some slack) but anyway he could be...someone who dies...hmm...oh i know! kawalsky!
And - quite obviously - there's a lot of personal parallels for me here too. I absolutely HATED how HOO took advantage of the original characters, and then made fun of them/destroyed their characterization (ahem, ANNABETH). I know lots of people loved HOO more, but for me the last two books especially ruined the characters. Not to mention they kept dangling Percy and Annabeth in front of our noses and then made us read about people who were not them. Funnily enough, 5 PJO books + 5 HOO books = 10 books total! Guess what has 10 seasons? That's right, SG-1! And guess what I refuse to acknowledge the last two seasons of, because said seasons destroyed characterization? Oh look, it's Stargate SG-1!
Speaking of that - if I'm running with the parallel then Landry could be Coach Hedge. And Mitchell can be Fucking Jason Grace--huh, that works well. And I think Vala can be Leo - aka the only one I liked of the new characters! :D
GUYS I NEED TO REREAD THIS NOW
I NEED TO WRITE SAM AND JACK'S KID READING PERCY JACKSON
SELF-INDULGENT PERCY JACKSON AU TIME

gold rush
hey guys, after a long time, I'm working on a new fanfic. so I came back here to post it too
Annabeth hadn't expected California to have such a weird weather. Sure, she'd always heard all that stuff about the state being sunny and everything, but the actual problem was that the climate was so instable she was actually scared that something might be wrong. Of course, when you're a demigod, everything makes you afraid that something might be wrong, but that's not the point. The constant summerlike feeling of San Francisco felt weird, and she didn't think that, of all things, the weather would be the most difficult thing to adapt when moving from New York to the other side of the country, especially when being next to Mount Tamalpais, a place traditionally feared by heroes.
Still, there she was, coming back from college, and her greatest regret of the day was the fact that she'd trusted the blue sky and shining sun outside her window when she woke up. Now, all her clothes were starting to get wet and she was running through the street, trying to find someplace to shelter from the rain that literally had shown no signs of falling two minutes ago.
She spotted a small coffee shop at a narrow street besides her that she never noticed before, and figured she might as well sit down for a cup of cappuccino and wait for the rain to pass. She entered the store and stood behind a couple and an old lady in line, waiting for her turn. Her jeans and Eagles T-shirt were mildly wet and, for the hundredth time in the last five minutes, she wished she had brought a jacket.
"Hey", a deep voice startled her. She hadn't even realized she was so absorbed in her thoughts until this moment, when the barista called her and she noticed it was already her turn to order. When she looked at him, she felt some kind of shiver down her spine and stood quiet for a moment.
It's not like she had never seen or talked to hot guys before. She knew the feeling, as well as how to deal with it. Mostly, she wasn't very affected by the looks of random guys, or anyone, really. She wasn't easily impressed, since she'd already seen all sorts of weird stuff, and all sorts of beautiful things, people, and even gods.
But the guy made her lose a breath, and she couldn't quite explain why. He wasn't hot in that obvious way that made most Aphrodite kids go "oh-my-gods-please-kiss-me", but he was handsome, with a lean and muscular figure and black hair standing carelessly around his face. Nonetheless, what caught Annabeth's breathe were his eyes. They were a deep shade of green that made her feel she could be staring directly into the ocean. And there was something about them, something deep and familiar that...
"So", he raised an eyebrow and she realized she'd been staring, and silent for too long. "Can I get you something?"
She got closer and tried to look away from his eyes, registering the surroundings and gathering information.
"Uh, sorry", she said. "I got lost on my thoughts."
"No problem." She realized he had a slight smile and resisted the urge to roll her eyes or even punch him in the face. Snob.
She took a quick look at the menu in the counter and asked for a medium cappuccino and a cookie.
"Are you eating here or you want them to go?" he asked. She looked at the raindrops sliding through the windows glasses and couldn't help but think this was a very stupid question.
"What do you think, Seaweed Brain?", she blurted out. She didn't know where that had come from, but the thought of the sea in his eyes was still in her head and, really, she was tired from the week and pissed at whichever god was being so moody about the weather these days.
"I'm sorry?", he asked, brows furrowed. He seemed a little offended, and, honestly, Annabeth couldn't blame him. She realized she'd been weird and rude.
"Oh gods, I... I'll eat here. Waiting for the rain to pass, you know."
He nodded and typed a few things, telling her the price and accepting her credit card. As he gave her the machine for her to type the password, she noticed a strange tattoo on his forearm, with a trident, the letters SPQR and seven stripes. She didn't understand why the symbol of Poseidon and the motto of Rome would be registered together in somebody's flesh, but she realized that maybe for him the meaning was completely different.
"So, uh...", she realized he stood with a notepad and a pen, as if waiting for her to say her name to complete not only his sentence, but also her order.
"Annabeth", she offered.
"Annabeth", he repeated, while writing. "Could you tell me why exactly would I have seaweed in my head?"
