Tidal Waves
See, I promised that I wasn’t dead or gone, I was just working on a story for you all. With the craziness of being a grad student, turning another year older, and being a responsible employee..its hard to sit down to write a story. But i hope you guys enjoy this one even if its way past may.
Warnings: Soft vore, Safe vore, gaslighting, manipulation, physical abuse.
All Tommy had ever known was Dream, and that Mer’s like him were bad, he had to be better than them. But what happens when two brother’s try to find a pesky human, and find a new baby brother instead?
Dream was the only thing Tommy had ever known, his face was the first he’d seen when he broke through the membranous skin of his egg, holding him in his warm hands as he took his first breaths of air. He understood why he looked so different from him, he was a mer and Dream was a…human, a thing without the same scales and luxurious fins. Humans were boring, but he was the only family he had… especially since other Mer’s were dangerous. When Tommy learned to speak...English .. he asked Dream when he could meet another mer like him, it was boring to be in his tank alone and the man barely played with him anymore. That led to another one of his lessons for asking such a dumb question and Tommy was forced to eat just kelp for a month, but he did learn that mer’s were nothing but monsters. They could take the shape of humans and use some sort of hypnotic voice to lure those to their death, but Tommy wasn’t like those monsters, he was a good mer. He only sang when Dream said he could and let the man hold him to clean his scales, even if his fingers were rough on his delicate fins… he had forgiven the man when he accidentally tore a small portion and left a gap in the fin after all.
It was only an accident.
“That fucking bastard,” Tommy flinched and hid towards the bottom of his tank as the blond man slammed his way into the room, green eyes blazing as he threw a bundle of papers onto the desk and trudged his way to the bedroom, not sparing a glance towards Tommy as he slammed the door. Tommy slowly moved towards the lid, barely able to see the bolded words at the top of the closest page. Treaty with Mers ends decades of bloodshed. What did the treaty mean? The door slammed open again as Dream came back to his desk, a large bag slung over his shoulder, panting harshly as he stopped before Tommy’s tank.
The man leaned forward and placed his fingers inside, smiling slightly as the child swam up to cuddle the digit,” I’m going to be going away for a bit Tommy, do you remember Sapnap?” He smiled as Tommy nodded excitedly, he was the nice human that played with him for hours and gave him more shrimp than usual,” He’s going to come here in four days when I send him the coordinates, I have to leave for a while, but he’ll take care of you until I can take you back.”
Tommy whined and let out a sad chitter before correcting his mistake,” why do you have to leave…what am I going to eat before Sapnap gets here… there's no more fish or shrimp,” Normally when Dream left for a long while he left a wide variety of fish and shrimp for Tommy to both play with and eat while he was gone, he had to eat the last fish not too long ago...He had promised to get more, but he knew that Dream was just too busy at his human job.
This made Dream frown and the fingers holding him started to tighten,” are you complaining Tommy, and what did I tell you about not speaking English..,” The pressure got worse before the man dropped him fully,” No matter, you’ll be fine for four days, I’ll get you something big when I pick you up from Sapnap... Just hide in your skull if anyone else comes in here.” Dream walked away from the tank for the front door, taking one last glance at the small boy,” be good Tommy,” before shutting the door and locking it behind him.
Tommy could only give a low whine as he gently placed his hands on his tail, whimpering in pain that would definitely be bruised in the morning, he should have known better. He sighed as he moved to lay across the top of the skull in his tank, not ready to go inside it to sleep yet, he’s going to be the best boy for Dream and for Sapnap when he gets here. Tommy couldn’t help but yawn slightly to himself, maybe Sapnap will be early….the last time he saw him he got into a big fight with Dream…Maybe this means they made up and they can play again. This was his last thought as he drifted off to sleep…
*_*
Tommy couldn’t help but grumble as he pulled his tail tighter to him as he blew some bubbles, he couldn’t tell how many days had passed now, he couldn’t see the sun or use his sleep schedule since it was the only escape from his boredom. In his dreams, he could be swimming in a massive pool with shrimp and fish plenty, and singing with Dream again.
He jumped when a loud bang rattled the front door, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and swimming to the top of his tank in excitement, it took Sapnap long enough to get here. He called out happily when the door slammed open, but the happy trill was cut off when a group of men in dark suits entered the room, holding weird objects in front of them…and none of them were Sapnap. He quickly dived down to hide within his skull, peering out the eyehole fearfully as the men began to tear apart the entire apartment, emptying every drawer onto the floor and bashing open plant pots to search inside them. He had no idea what they could be looking for, he softly whimpered to himself when another pair of men entered the room and they just oozed predatory energy. The boy knew immediately what the two of them were when their faces turned in the direction of his tank, with a scattering of scales and slitted pupils eerily similar to his own when he saw his reflection, they were dangerous Mers.
The shorter of the two Mers snarled loudly as he kick over the tub that held umbrellas,” how did that bastard escape us, we've been tracking him for weeks,” The curly brown hair on its head almost seemed to curl tighter in rage, but Tommy was sure he was just imagining things in his terror, especially as the other one turned to stare at his tank before walking over. It had long pink hair that framed its face with intricate braids and its blood-red eyes were slowly scanning his home,” He can't have been gone long, there's not much dust on this furniture, search for anything that could point us to his trail… Techno what are you doing?”
The now named Techno didn’t answer as he lifted a hand to place in the water and brought it to his mouth to taste, humming thoughtfully as he continued to scan,” Why did he have this tank still running when everything else is turned off.” Tommy had nearly burrowed himself completely into the sand in his skull hide, he remembered the stories of these monstrous Mers, they ate humans, and what would stop them from eating him!! He wanted to growl as the hand reached in to take his plants and other rocks out of the tank, those were his things and they had no right to take them. So when the pale fingers curled into the empty eye sockets and despite the lessons to not bite, he open his mouth wide and dug his teeth into the closest digit. He just as quickly released when a loud “HEH?!” echoed from outside the tank, and smiled to himself when the hand was pulled away from his hide and out of the water.
`-`
Techno looked at his finger in annoyance, whatever had bitten him within the tank didn’t break the skin, but the fact the thing inside bit him got on his nerves. Only something extremely stupid or brave would bite him. Wilbur was quick to stride over to look at his hand,” what would be dumb enough to bite a Mer, the tank is too small for one of those pistol shrimp, it's still salt water so not a stupid piranha…” Techno ignored him as he reached into the tank again to grip the sides of the skull and pulled it from the water, and felt his instincts flair in panic as it registered the distinctive shriek of a baby mer in distress. He quickly turned the skull in his hands and Wilbur was pressed to his side and staring at his hands,” is that a ??”
A quick shake led to a small red tail sliding out of one of the eye sockets, the older two Mers both winced at how thin the child was, it clearly hadn't been fed properly and its body was covered in old scars and bruising before the tail slipped back into the skull. Wilbur was quick to turn to the humans in the room hissing some orders at them while Techno gently turned the skull over so he could scoop more water into it, he didn’t want the child to dehydrate on him. He jumped and growled aggressively at his brother when the brunette shoved a glass of water at him,” That skull isn’t going to hold water as we travel back home, you're going to need to store the pup…you’re, unfortunately, bigger than me and they don’t need to be too compressed until we can look at their injuries,” Techno warily took the cup as the other glanced back at the tank,” when the fuck did that asshole find a baby…”
Techno looked at the skull in thought as he could now see a small pair of blue eyes staring back at them,” He’s not super young, but definitely past the infant stage… probably old enough to speak if he’s been taught.” Techno gave a soft croon to the child safe…safe... But the only thing he received was a low growl that made him smirk, this child had spunk… but spunk wouldn't keep him healthy. He lifted the glass high and quickly drained the salted water into his brood pouch, feeling the organ swell slightly and shove his formerly rumbling stomach aside, preparing to hold the child where nothing could reach them... Techno looked back down at the child again and crooned one last time before he tried to remove them from their hide, “this is probably going to terrify them if they've only been raised by a human. “ Safe…protector..safe.. Warm.
`-`
Tommy was terrified of the whole situation, the big Mers were using the sounds he wasn’t supposed to, and they were breaking the rules, which proved they were as bad as Dream said…But the sounds the pink one was making made his body want to relax on its own, and it took a lot in him not to chirp back in return to them…but he forced himself to growl instead. The fingers came back again and he went in for another bite, digging in his claws this time to increase the pain, but that made it easier for him to be pulled out of his skull and into the open air. He held firm while glaring at the pink-haired one, but shifted his eyes angrily at the brunette when they made that same calming noise at him, what a bastard. He flinched when he felt warm hands grab his tail, fully expecting them to crush his body, but they were gentle as they moved across it. He tensed up when the finger hit the space in his fin… he knew Dream didn’t mean to rip it, it was his fault since he jumped in the middle of cleaning, but the area was still very sensitive. The pink-haired mer snarled in rage, but seemed to stop when Tommy accidentally let out a whine of fear… what did this monster want with him?
Tommy got his answer when he was lifted over the pink-ettes face, and when the tip of his fins brushed against the lips, they opened wide to show sharpened teeth and the dark abyss behind them.
`-`
The child grew frantic when he opened his mouth, clamping tighter with its teeth and arms around his fingers as the tail tried to thrash away from him. Wilbur was at his side and tried to croon to the child like he had, telling them it was safe and to calm down, but it was useless. He only sighed and pulled away,” just get him stored quickly so we can get out of here, I’ll stand guard outside since there's nothing here for us to find,” and he stepped out with that, giving a final look that was mixed with both concern for the child and envy that Techno got to store them. Techno could faintly hear him talking with the agents they had brought with them, but he turned back to the child as he lowered the fins into his mouth, using his tongue to protect the already damaged skin from his teeth. A burst of spiciness hit his tastebuds with every flick and it took a lot of self-control on Techno’s part not to hum, but he held it off as he lowered the boy further, gently slicking up the soft scales that almost flacked off; bad sign... Techno was going to rip this Dream character apart for what he did to this child, they were clearly underfed and mistreated probably since his hatching since the child didn’t understand mer. The more he lowered his hand, the more panicked the whines got, tugging at the formerly nonexistent heartstrings he had, and almost crooned when the little spitfire detached and began to verbally plead with him.
`-`
Tommy was terrified, his biting was not stopping the monster, would it even listen to him if he pleaded with it…there was only one way to find out. He pulled his mouth away from the scarred skin (noting sadly that his teeth left nothing but indents) and began to plead,” I’ll do anything if you don’t eat me…. don’t eat me…what did I do to you!!!” He swore the red eyes seemed to soften for a moment as the massive tongue paused in its tasting of his tail, and his heart rose as the giant hands shifted a bit, but he wailed as the new hold let the bigger mer push him further down its gullet. He didn’t want the bigger mer to see him cry, but as the heat of the mouth traveled up his body and could feel the clingy saliva left by the tongues swipes, he fell into an instinctive state of fear. He was so longer speaking English, but dissolved into the primal language his human “parent” tried to erase in him,” SCARED…PARENT… HELP….Danger!!
`-`
Techno’s eyes dilated as his instincts registered a fearful child, he wanted to take the process slowly to not scare the child any further, but he had to hurry them into the safety of his pouch away from the ‘danger’. He gave faster and faster swallows to shield away his new charge but kept his fingers around them until his knuckles knocked against his teeth, he needed to let the child go now. He rumbled softly when the child released another panicked whine as he pulled away, the tiny fingers scrambling against his skin until he was looking at his own saliva-drenched fingers. He gave the final swallow to pull the child from his maw and towards his pouch. Once his voice box was clear he began to chuff and click softly to the child, he could clearly feel the panicked twitching as they traveled down, doing his best to calm them by keeping his heart rate low and keeping his breaths shallow. He brought a hand down to his torso and waited, giving a soft huff when the warm weight dropped into his core, making him shudder as the unused organ tried to make sense of what was happening. But the more the child moved, the more the walls started to ungulate in soothing waves in tandem with his heartbeat, massaging the tense form inside while he hummed softly. He continued this until the child began to still, breathing deeply but no longer fighting against him, and almost seemed to lean into the touch of his fingers.
With a satisfied huff Techno moved to leave the crummy apartment, pausing long enough to tuck the skull into his pocket, he wasn’t going to leave the child's possession in this place. It also made him smile over their shared love of skulls. He gave a quick nod to Wilbur as he strode out of the apartment,” He’s calmed down a little bit, but we need to get some food for them, I wouldn’t know I was storing anything if he didn’t move.” Wilbur placed a gentle hand over his storage and gave a low thrum of safe as he felt the child press back, causing Techno to let out a deeper thrum of happiness at having His child and brother so close to him, the only thing that would make it better would be his father. Phil is going to be so happy to have another child to care for. He motioned for the few armed men that remained to get into the car,” take us to the nearest market and find me the freshest shrimp you can find.”
`-`
Tommy didn’t know what to think anymore as he floated in the mer’s stomach, all he could taste was salt water, not the bitter stuff that came out of him when Dream punished him for being too greedy. He whined as the walls gently brushed up against him again, the flesh was the softest thing he ever felt, even more so than the skin of his egg. He didn’t want to relax though, what if everything suddenly changed and it tried to hurt him, who cares if the giant Mers said it was safe; you can’t trust them. He couldn’t help but sway along with each step the mer took, listening to the sounds of their heartbeat and rumbling words around him, it was very humbling and almost made him feel like he was nothing compared to these things. Dream was right about that, he always said that Tommy was nothing like these things, and this being proven made him feel very small… He jumped when a sudden pressure rubbed against his side and the low rumble of a sound that somehow clicked in his mind as Guppy Safe. Why was it comforting him, and why did he want to chitter in response, it went against everything Dream taught him, but his body went against him. He opened his mouth and let out the softest chirp of Protector, it was a sound he made when he first hatched and Dream rarely allowed him to use it, and he flinched for the punishment he was used to receiving.
But instead of pain, the walls grew closer to him in a firm embrace as the mer let out the deepest and happiest sounding purr he had ever heard, the pressure returning to rub against his side. Tommy wanted to slap himself as he realized it was the mer rubbing its hand against him, acknowledging his existence… and praising him for using his chirps. The larger mer rumbled again and switched to using English to speak with him, which both relieved and saddened him somehow,” I bet that you’re hungry guppy, shrimp is your favorite right?”
Tommy couldn’t help his excitement as he pressed into the walls around him, swapping between English and happy chirps, and he grew excited when he heard the sound of swallowing. He swam around the small space and jumped when a weight dropped onto his head…It was a full shrimp! Tommy let out an excited squeal before chomping into his prize, not caring how messy he got as he enjoyed the meal given to him.
Maybe...
Maybe these big Mers aren’t so bad.
=-=
Sapnap was excited to see the little mer again, gently adjusting the package of sliced tuna in his arms as he ran for the apartment, this could be his only chance to feed the kid properly before he was forced to give them back to Dream. He didn’t like how the man was treating them, it was like having a child, not training an animal to be a guard dog like Dream wanted. He remembered that fight all too well when he promised to take the mer from him, but the threat of Dream “disposing” of his project made him back down, but here was his chance.
He paused when he saw the door to the apartment was wide open… almost looking like it was bashed in, he didn’t care about holding the tuna anymore as he rushed for the door, screaming for the kid. “Tommy? Tommy can you answer me, whistle if you can hear me!!” The only thing that answered him was the humming of an empty tank, fake plants laying next to it, but missing both the skull and little mer that hid inside it… that and the mess around the entire apartment just made his heart sink. Sapnap slowly raised his phone to his ear, not giving the person he dialed any time to answer as he spoke,” Dream… I think you're going to have a major problem.”

Aaron and Andrew
Here is a sort of guide to the twins pasts and how they met, and their relationship with each other throughout the years.
(I really hope this makes sense, do let me know if anything is confusing)
When they were separated
Tilda Minyard became pregnant after what Nicky believes is a one night stand. Once the twins were born, Tilda gave them both up to foster care a few days after they were born. Consumed by the guilt of giving her children up, she returned to the system and decided to take only one of them back. The one she chose wound up being Aaron.
Due to the fact that Tilda didn’t register the twins under a last name, Andrew wound up staying in the foster system under the name
“Andrew Doe” and bounced from family to family, none of them good, until he was thirteen. At this time, he moved in with the Spears. Cass and Richard Spear were the first family Andrew truly felt a connection to, more so Cass than Richard. Cass wanted to adopt Andrew, and he wanted to let her.
The problem was, the Spear’s biological son, Drake, started to sexually abuse Andrew. Andrew finally felt like he had a real family, a real mother, in Cass. Drake was graduating soon and he wanted to join the army right out of high school. Andrew thought that if he could last until Drake graduated, then he could have the mother he wanted and wouldn’t have to give her up because of Drake’s abuse.
Then, Officer Higgins from Oakland PD, who knew Andrew, saw Aaron who was with his mother and her boyfriend at a football game. Higgins believed Tilda was another foster parent and that the twins got separated in the system.
Higgins convinced Tilda to give him her number so he could give it to Cass Spear. She did, likely out of embarrassment and received a call the next day. Tilda told Cass that she wanted nothing to do with Andrew. Aaron, aware of what the call was about, listened on the home phone upstairs. He heard Tilda say that she didn’t want Aaron to meet Andrew. Aaron had a huge fight with Tilda but she wouldn’t budge, so Aaron went behind her back and contacted the Oakland PD. Aaron told them to give his information to Andrew’s foster family. Two weeks after, Aaron got a letter from Andrew telling him that he wanted nothing to do with Aaron, and to leave him alone.
While Aaron was trying to convince Andrew to meet him, so was Drake. Drake harassed Andrew, trying to get him to agree to meet Aaron. This was the reason Andrew refused to do it. Andrew didn’t care what happened to him at the hands of Drake, but he didn’t want anyone else to deal with it, especially the brother he’s never met. Cass convinced Aaron to try again later, and he was going to but he waited too long. Andrew decided to get himself locked up in a juvenile facility to escape Drake’s abuse. Juvie is where Andrew learned to play Exy,
With their mother
About two months after all of this happened, Tilda took Aaron and moved him to Columbia. Once Luther, Tilda’s brother and Nicky’s father, found out about Andrew, he went to interview Andrew’s foster family. A month later, Luther flew himself and Aaron out to California to see Andrew. Aaron picked up Exy in school as a way to get out of the house for a few extra hours to escape Tilda’s abuse.
Andrew noticed something was wrong and didn’t believe that the bruises came from Exy, and so he did everything in his power to get out. A year after this first short visit, Andrew got released from Juvie on good behavior, and put on probation. Luther managed to convince Tilda to take him in and so Andrew moved to Columbia. Andrew found out that Tilda has gotten Aaron addicted to drugs.
Andrew didn’t like Tilda, and made that very clear, but he and Aaron had a cautious, but somewhat friendly relationship. Andrew and Aaron made a deal, Andrew would stick with Aaron until high school graduation, and protect him from women who wanted to hurt him, on the condition that Aaron ice out anyone else. Andrew initially did this to get Aaron to stop seeing the friends who enabled his addiction. Aaron, even with the deal in place, tried to make friends and even date a few girls. One night, Andrew pretended to be Aaron and got into a fight with Tilda. Andrew made it to Luther’s house, which is how the Hemmicks found out about Tilda’s abuse. Luther called Tilda to talk but she took Andrew and left.
It’s uncertain what exactly happened to cause the car to crash, Nicky thought maybe Tilda panicked when she realized it wasn’t Aaron in the car, or Andrew did it on purpose, or if they were fighting. It is later implied by Andrew that he staged the entire accident, yet what exactly happened that caused the crash is still not known. Tilda wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and died during the accident.
Aaron believes that Andrew killed Tilda because she left him in the foster care system. Andrew says that he killed Tilda because she hurt Aaron. Tilda’s death destroyed the fledgling relationship between the twins.
With Nicky
Nicky Hemmick was in Germany when he found out about his Aunt Tilda’s death and when he came back to the states for her funeral, he was told that his father was planning to take in the twins. Nicky was miserable when he lived with his parents and didn’t want the twins to have to deal with what he went through so Nicky became their legal guardians. They got a house in Columbia and the first thing Andrew did was stock the upstairs bathroom with canned food and other supplies and lock Aaron in it, forcing him through withdrawal. Nicky got a job at the restaurant Sweeties where he and the twins were introduced to a non-addictive drug called “cracker dust” to try and help Aaron with his addiction. He found out from customers about Eden’s Twilight and got a job there by befriending one of the bartenders, Roland. Eventually he got both of the twins part time jobs at the club.
Medication
Two years before the start of The Foxhole Court, Nicky was attacked outside of Eden’s Twilight by four men because of his sexuality. Andrew stepped in and nearly beat all four of them to death. The courts rules that the violence took a step too far past self defense and Andrew’s lawyer managed to convince them to have Andrew engage in intensive counseling and be medicated for three years instead of going to prison.
With the Foxes
Andrew was scouted by Edgar Allen University, with Kevin and Riko, but he turned them down and nearly immediately signed with the Palmetto State Foxes. He signed with the Foxes because Coach Wymack was willing to sign his brother and cousin as well as let Andrew come off his medication for Exy games. All three joined the team.
During the series, the twins rarely interact with each other unless they have to, showing a distant and oftentimes cold relationship. Aaron blames Andrew for Tilda’s death, and Andrew refuses to apologize for keeping his end of the deal they made, even if Aaron won’t.
In The Raven King, while Nicky is trying to reconnect with his parents, Drake is waiting upstairs and attacks Andrew. Neil notices something is wrong and takes Aaron upstairs to help Andrew. Upon seeing what was happening, Aaron murders Drake to help Andrew. After the attack, the decision is made to send Andrew to rehab to get him off of his mood altering medication. He comes back and seems even more uninterested in his brother than usual.
During The King’s Men, Neil manipulates Katelyn, Aarons girlfriend into shutting him out until the twins go to counseling together. Eventually, they do start going and attempting to work out some of their issues. Later in the book, Aaron uses their deal against Andrew, if Aaron can’t have a relationship with Katelyn because of their deal, then technically Andrew was breaking their deal by doing what he was doing with Neil. Andrew angrily and reluctantly agrees to end the deal with Aaron and confronts Katelyn in the library where he tells her that even though he is allowing her to see Aaron, that doesn’t mean he approves of or likes her. He tells her to stay away from him. Aaron and Neil end up switching rooms, Neil moving in with Kevin, Nicky, and Andrew, and Aaron moving in with Matt.
After the books
The twin’s relationship improves slowly over time, but eventually they acknowledge each other outside of the counseling sessions. According to a post from Nora’s Twitter, after the twins graduate and figure out they have to leave each other “Aaron catches hold of Andrew and Andrew is the last to let go.” After graduation, Aaron proposes to Katelyn right before his fifth year at Palmetto and they get married shortly after graduation. Neil manages to convince Andrew to go to the wedding but it takes two separate favors to do so, one to get Andrew to go and the other to make sure Andrew doesn’t threaten Katelyn. Aaron and Katelyn move to Chicago after graduating from Medical school and decide not to have children because of their busy careers and general disinterest in having any. Andrew lives with Neil and they adopt two cats while having successful professional Exy careers.

Okay. There's quite a bit to talk about from BOTH channels.
Starting with SaMS, there's Lunar's current mental state. All he seems to want to do is run. I'm not an expert in any of this sort of thing, but he may, somewhere deep inside, not feel safe in the daycare or Pizzaplex. He may have this feeling of wanting to run away, but having no clue where else to go, he just runs laps. There may also just be general adrenaline, possibly because of both feeling unsafe and being dead for a long time. Also, he says he feels numb, but there was also definitely frustration in his voice as he was trying to explain his feelings/lack thereof. It could be that he's frustrated simply by the fact that he doesn't feel anything and can't seem to explain it. It could also be that he IS feeling something, but he just can't quite figure out what he's feeling, which may lead to thinking that he feels numb. Personally, I know how it feels to be experiencing a great amount of stress while also being unable to reach that stress in my mind in order to express it. I mean, he doesn't even feel like playing games he used to love. I know I've experienced an unexplainable lack of interest in things because of both intense stress AND the numbness that can come immediately after an intense burst of emotion. I hadn't thought of it before beginning this post, but he may just be feeling overwhelmed by everything that's happened within less than a day. He comes back after being dead for months, almost immediately after waking up, he hears the voice of the person who both abused him AND killed him, he travels through space, returns to the Pizzaplex and immediately finds out about a sister he knew nothing about, promptly learns that Moon (the person he was closest to next to Monty) is not the same Moon that he knew before, he reunites with his brothers, finds out that Eclipse is dead, and is expected to just be completely fine after ALL of that. I really hope that Lunar will be able to get a bit of help from someone. It was honestly heartbreaking to see him show absolutely zero interest in playing Kingdom Hearts, or any game at all. I want to say that I hope Earth talks to him, but I sort of have the feeling he may be somewhat resistant to receiving help or therapy from someone he doesn't know at all. I really think the best thing might be for him to just have some time to himself (once he wears himself out from running, that is), so he can just try to feel like he's alive again.
Okay, that was already long, but I NEED to talk about today's Monty and Foxy video as well. I'm really not sure that that's Foxy anymore. I don't know if it's still Foxy's body, but it's been overtaken by something/someone OR if this isn't Foxy at all. Not only is he DEFINITELY trying to sabotage Monty, but his speech is so monotone and robotic. The inflections in his voice are completely unnatural, and the Foxy we've seen up until now has been far more supportive of Monty than he probably should have been. He's always been especially supportive when it's come to Monty's relationship with Earth. I really don't know what to make of it.
Also, quick note, I acknowledge that Monty was completely wrong to try and hide things about themself and their life from Earth. Still, I do feel bad because he was so willing to try and become better for her. Other than the breaking-and-entering in that one restaurant, I can't think of many (completely) terrible illegal things that Monty's done since meeting Earth. The effort they've been making is clear from the simple fact that, despite how badly they wanted to, they didn't hurt Foxy after Earth left. They didn't even break any furniture. All of this is to say, even if she can't forgive what Monty's done in the past, I hope Earth will be willing to give them one more chance.

so. don't know where the back case is, but it is coming. i have done a few little drafts that will be either posted or queued once i have the ability to cut posts again. and mostly, i am in gb3 brainrot hell. i cannot guarantee anything before monday, and even then it's not for sure that my laptop will be repaired same day, but i do want to get something going with my muses for the setting asap.
like this for a small, 1-3 sentence starter from one of my gb3 muses, including a canon companion, an npc, three pcs, and an au for an extant muse. since i do not have the ability to add new muses of yet on this venerable desktop, i'll include mini bios under the cut. i will get to the starters just as soon as i have the ability to add icons/cut posts again, likely early next week.
gale of w*terdeep, a veritable renaissance man. wizard, poet, epicurean, and utterly doomed. his blighted love for a goddess drove him to desperate acts that put the entire world at risk, a shard of dark magic buried deep in his chest and eternally starving. he has done his best to subdue it, to distance himself from the world, but a recent abduction by interplanar forces has driven him back into the world, seeking to control his condition and help yon heroes save the day -- only to find a lovers scorn and holy orders to let the magic devour him in service of that salvation. his goddess, lover, abuser demands his sacrifice, while his companions demand his survival, and gale is somewhere in the midst of it, broken but not defeated.
bing bong, an imp from the hells that was summoned to perform simple tasks for an unscrupulous merchant. he is so named because he can only articulate the words 'bing bong,' which is incidentally the sound his door makes when he pulls the lever to admit customers. he's certainly a minor demon, but also has a little bow tie and loves cuddles, so how can you hate him. for a brief moment, he was cherished and coddled by sh*dowheart, but his joy was ended in a fiery demise, used as a projectile against the forces of evil. yet hope springs eternal, and bing bong is intent on making his way out of the hells -- for good, if he can help it.
aurelia rosegrove, a daughter of the wilds far from home. half-elf, ranger, outlander, she's never quite found anywhere suitable for her myriad natures. raised by a druid mother in a small grove to the east, the wilds were always home to her, and like a proper lady of the house, she was chasing out vermin from a young age. she made a name for herself among local communities as a monster hunter and peerless tracker, unmatched in skill and determination, til she suddenly disappeared in the night, her camp intact and the fire still burning when found days later. captured by illithid forces, she's seeking a cure and a way home, working with others for perhaps the first time in her life. not the most friendly or forthcoming figure, she nonetheless does her best by those around her -- especially the sort of gruff warrior women that have always weakened her iron will.
hel rautametsänen, the problem child of k*lemvor. tiefling, grave cleric, unclear origins, except that she has wandered the whole of faerun as a comforting horror. disfigured from birth, and sickly for as long, she was denied by her goliath mother's clan and raised on the road by her scoundrel father, til he was able to find sanctuary with a noble sworn brother just outside the gate. it was in this court hel first learned to perform, and there her fate was sealed. she has spent the twilight of her youth playing healer to various companies, and now grown acts as a wandering cleric playing priestess, gravedigger, funeral director, and grief counselor as needed. she was snatched from a fated meeting, a chance to put her past to rest, and left with a far more dire prognosis via tadpole. she tries to be a steadfast and comforting figure to the party, but is not above shenanigans or turning a blind eye. has a deep vein of violence hidden under her patient guile that is slow to blossom but effective when summoned.
sybelle riselin, the alleged baby of the bunch. human, wizard, sage origins, she hails from athk*tla and a great archive therein. pretty much her entire life has been spent in seclusion among the records and her fellow acolytes, but she was given a simple task that drove her from her comfort zone. as is common in these stories, the task proved anything but simple. snatched up by mindflayers, she has far greater worries now than the transportation of tomes. yet she has found good company, and seeks to do right by them, to be an asset despite her anxieties and lack of experience. the whole situation has encouraged her to gain more life experience, to live while she still can, to be more than a young woman collecting dust in a musty back room. mostly, though, she's delighted to be traveling with 'real' heroes and able to commit their daring deeds today to word that will be read many generations hence.
'valas' d*vir, the wheel of fortune made flesh. half-drow, sorcerer, a noble-turned-outlander, he's been many things over his century of life, but he can never deny what he is at heart. the son of a great hero and his infamous lady wife, valas' charmed early life ended with the absence of his mother and the grief of his father. in the decades since losing his father, he has had no cause but to further his study of the world, and no lasting tether to others -- until his fathers divine relatives resurfaced. now he is a man hunted, an escape artist trying to put distance between himself and the bhaalspawn that would see shared blood spilt. he has escaped one nightmare temporarily only to fall into another more fully, imprisoned on a nautiloid and infected. he's utterly insufferable as a party member, but capable of great power and insight, and even of change if sufficiently persuaded towards heroic or villainy alike.

OKAY because I realized I FINALLY have to do this...
Here are the character facts for the HOBC crew!
Overall CW due to themes of religious trauma and abuse, injury, death, ETC. Just... sort of overall dead dove: do not eat because they are a fucked up bunch.
Name: Calvin Conner Rogue Age: 23 DOB: 05/17/2000 Favorite color: Black (actually jade green) Magic color (if any): Jade green Any other skills: Survival skills (hunting, creating shelters, etc.), great swimmer Backstory: When he was just 14, his house was burnt down, leading to the death of his mother. In an attempt to save his younger brother, he ended up burning his entire right arm. Despite this, we went on to live a semi-functional life, traveling in and out of foster care before, when turning 20, he finally got a house and got Mark to live in it, along with three other roommates. Three years after buying the house and three years of seemingly paranormal activity, a white clad stranger appeared at his door one day, kick-starting the story. Personality: At times, he can seem stand off-ish and blunt, not being very trusting in people when first meeting them. It really takes a while for him to warm up to people, and when he does, he turns out to be a very emotionally driven person, with a want to help people whenever he can. Flaws: Despite everything, he does have an issue with alcohol, leading to him often crying on someone's shoulder in the middle of the night as he thinks about how he could have changed things. He is an extremely guilt ridden person, and he can't leave the past behind. What they think of the rest of the characters:
Mark, his younger brother, is his entire world. If anything happened to Mark, Calvin would kill.
He sees Lukas as another little brother and is highly protective of him.
He isn't as close to the twins (Eliza and Elliot) as he is everyone else, but he still sees them as close, trust worthy friends.
He's extremely hesitant to stay around Corven for too long, as he gives Calvin a headache.
Lizzie and him will fight the moment they see eachother. Especially if Calvin learned the truth about her.
Name: Mark Rogue Age: 20 DOB: 09/02/2003 Favorite color: Indigo Magic color (if any): No magic Any other skills: Can craft robots very quickly, very talented as an engineer and weapon forging. Backstory: Like Calvin, their house burnt down. After this, while in the foster system, he discovered his love of creation. From here, he became a skilled engineer and artisan within the community. If you need something done, he's the guy to go to. Personality: He's extremely hard working and very proud of anything he creates. He has a natural compassion and a kind personality which makes people attract to him like a magnet. Flaws: He's a major workaholic and will spend days at a time not sleeping because of a single project. Along with that, his compassion can lead to him being too trusting. What they think of the rest of the characters:
He looks up to Calvin quite a bit and one day wants to repay him for saving Mark during the fire.
Like Calvin, he sees Lukas as another brother and won't hesitate to tell people off for being rude to him.
He's great friends with the twins, always making time to help Eliza with his shows and bonding with Elliot over his stories.
Corven sort of freaks him out, but he doesn't mind being around him.
Lizzie will die by his robots, no hesitation.
Name: Lukas Hardwell Age: 19 DOB: 04/04/2004 Favorite color: Red Magic color (if any): Light blue Any other skills: Is shockingly good with a gun. Backstory: Born in Australia, he was soon adopted and sent to America. His adoptive parents were extremely religious and only adopted him so that they could keep up appearances, but his whole life, Lukas was abused. The excuse his parents gave was that he was never following the Bible. Soon enough, he ran away, meeting Mark in the middle of the city park. Mark allowed him to live with the rest of the roommates, covering his part of the rent until he got a job. Personality: He is a timid and easily frightened person, always isolating himself from the world due to his fears. Despite this, he does have moments were he comes out of his shell to protect the ones he cares about. Flaws: He's extremely cowardly and doesn't have much strength, so he is stuck using more ranged attacks. What they think of the rest of the characters:
He sees both Calvin and Mark as his saviors, and he looks up to them quite a lot. He's even began practicing to fix cars because he wants to impress Mark, despite Mark saying that he doesn't have to do that.
He's a little weary of the twins, but tries his best to spend time with them and be nice. He's especially began warming up to Eliza.
Corven scares the living shit out of him.
He was trusting of Lizzie at first, but eventually realized she was a terrible person.
Name: Eliza Hillsborough Age: 26 DOB: 08/20/1997 Favorite color: Neon pink Magic color (if any): Neon pink Any other skills: Can create costumes on the fly, very charismatic, computer nerd. Backstory: Eliza and Elliot (the twins) were raised poor their entire life. Because of this, Eliza set out to find jobs and discovered his love of music and theatre. Though this, he soon became a well known actor in the area, having lead roles in many musicals in the area. Though soon, due to no fault of his, he gained debilitating joint pain and could no longer perform like he wanted to. Despite this, you can still see him in the middle of the city park singing every now and then and doing smaller venues and shows. He also, during this time, turned to game design. Personality: He is extremely charismatic and outgoing, not thinking much of what people think of him. Some may call his outrageous acting and broadway style of song embarrassing, but it's what he loves. Flaws: While some days he'll be perfectly fine, only needed a quick pain relief pill, other days are unbearable and he can't get out of bed. His brother is always there for him though, making sure that no matter how many spoons Eliza has, that he's happy and doing what he loves. He can also be very loud and doesn't do well with stealth missions, as action and moving are his favorite things. What they think of the rest of the characters:
He finds Calvin to be a great acting partner, prompting them to do shows sometimes.
He is forever grateful for all the times Mark has helped him set up his equipment and thinks of him as a very kind man.
Eliza and Elliot are ride or die with eachother, and you can't separate them to matter what.
He thinks of Corven as his muse, creating costumes and art pieces based up him.
He gets a weird vibe from Lizzie and doesn't like to be around her.
Name: Elliot Hillsborough Age: 26 DOB: 08/20/1997 Favorite color: Orange Magic color (if any): No magic Any other skills: Skilled chemist and writer, extremely witty Backstory: While Eliza discovered his love of the arts, Elliot discovered his love of science. He became a chemist, and between experiments he likes to write horror novels. He tends to take inspiration from current goings on. Personality: He is a bit reserved, not being much of a talker unlike his twin. Despite this, he's a very warm person emotionally and is an amazing listener. Flaws: He can get extremely stressed under time limits or during things he can't control. One sudden thing he didn't plan and he's freaking out. What they think of the rest of the characters:
He dislikes Calvin's reliance on alcohol, but doesn't mind being a shoulder to cry on.
Mark and him tend to work on stories together sometimes. Elliot is impressed with Mark's resilience.
He doesn't spend much time around Lukas, but so far he thinks that Lukas seems nice.
Corven is also major inspiration for him, leading both him and Eliza to stand and sit next to him for hours on end both writing and designing.
Elliot hates Lizzie. Simple as that.
Name: Corven Age: ??? DOB: ??? Favorite color: White Magic color (if any): Pearly white Any other skills: Flight, polyglot Backstory: His past is unknown, but it seems pretty obvious if you take one look at him. People assume he's a guardian angel sent down to protect Calvin and the others from the forces of evil that may try to hurt them, though his powers are very limited on earth and even more so in the 7 layers of hell. Personality: He's very... stiff, almost. He's trying very hard to act human but he says it's hard. He doesn't show much emotion and tends to hide his emotions behind a literal mask. Though, then the mask is removed, he is revealed to be a very kind hearted individual. Flaws: Doesn't understand humans are... well, human. He doesn't understand that they get cut, that they bleed, that they die. This leads him to be very disconnected from the other. What they think of the rest of the characters:
He thinks Calvin is reckless.
He thinks Mark is too nice.
He thinks Elliot and Eliza are too close and that they shouldn't get their hopes up for anything.
He thinks Lukas is too naive.
He fucking hates Lizzie.
Name: Elizabeth Age: ??? DOB: ??? Favorite color: Blood red Magic color (if any): Blood red with black highlights. Any other skills: Being the queen of hell. Backstory: Well... She's the queen of hell. Back when Calvin was a child, she got a prophecy from one of her advisors that said 'He with the sword of green shall slay thee, releasing all souls thou hath collected'. When asked further, the advisor showed Lizzie Calvin and said that it was him. Of course, Lizzie burned down his house hoping it would slow him down. It didn't, and one lost demon eventually made his way to earth to warn and protect Calvin and the others. Soon she found out, convincing Lukas to let her possess him. Personality: Sadistic, she gains pleasure off of stealing the life force from humans, turning them into demons so they can work under her. She's extremely charismatic and a natural born deal maker. Flaws: "No flaws" quote unquote, at least according to her. What they think of the rest of the characters:
She hates all of them and wants the entire world to die.

Obey Me: The Brothers Accidentally Trigger an Abused MC (Beelzebub) (6/7)
Disclaimer: I’m not an expert on abuse or mental health. I’m not portraying how one should respond to these situations, only how I think the characters might. Abuse and trauma in particular are very complex topics, and people respond in all sorts of ways to them, and sometimes it gets really bad on all sides.
I can only draw from my personal experiences as well as those of people who have shared their stories or who I’m close with. There’s no one narrative of abuse and how it affects someone, so what I’m familiar with might not be what you’re familiar with. Let’s try and all be respectful of each other.
Content Warnings: Heated arguments, reference to past abuse, parental abuse, trauma response, breaking down in tears, this is quintessential hurt/comfort y’all, buckle up
Kinda cheating for the twins unfortunately! (In the sense that I’m gonna rely heavily on canon events) In Beel’s case it’s because we’ve only ever seen him lose his cool about either food or family, and for Belphie, well… you’ll see.
Gaaaah tumblr’s stupid new thing where if you resize the tab it wipes your post and switches between mobile and desktop versions made this SUCH a bitch to edit, but here it is! Once again, thank you all so much for your patience! I’ve learned not to make promises about when the next part will come out, but we’re almost done! It’s just Belphie left, then I get to the other requests!
To clarify, the initial dialogue in this scene is not mine, but comes from Lesson 4 of the game and is based on events from Lessons 4 and 5.
Lucifer (X) Mammon (X), Leviathan (X), Satan (X), Asmodeus (X), Beelzebub (you are here), Belphegor (X)
“Now what do we have here?” Mammon soliloquises. “Looks like a custard.”
MC has absolutely no idea what possessed them into letting him drag them to the kitchen.
“Mammon, are you sure we should-”
“Here, eat this,” he cuts MC off, handing them a cup of custard. “I need an accomplice. I don’t wanna be the only one in trouble.”
“In trouble?!” They look down at the custard lid. A note is firmly taped to it.
Property of Beelzebub. You eat it, you die.
They gulp. They really shouldn’t be touching this, what if…
“You’ve gotta be seriously brave to eat this custard here.” Mammon snatches the dessert back and waves it around. “If you can do that, I’ll admit that you’ve got guts.”
I won’t have any guts if Beelzebub finds out, MC thinks. They know the consequences for stealing food. I don’t care if you haven’t eaten all day, you DO NOT touch that fridge, understand?
“So you’re gonna do it, right? What am I sayin’? Do it. That’s an order.”
Then again, they don’t know what Mammon’s capable of either.
Go on, do it. You want to waste food so bad? Go in the trash and fish it out like the animal you are!
“...Okay, I’ll eat it...”
“There we go.” Mammon’s grin is wolfish as he holds out a spoon for them.
It tastes… oh wow. It’s very good custard. They almost want to go back for another-
“You did it!” Mammon shouts, and MC flinches so hard they nearly drop the container. “You totally ate Beel’s custard! I saw ya!”
Now you’ve done it, MC! You know how mad our parents are gonna be when they get back!
I… I had to… I didn’t want to… But it had been days...
“Shhh-!”
“Great, now I’ve got an accomplice. If you ate his stuff too, that means we’re in this boat together!” He returns his attention to the fridge. “So, my turn. Let’s see if I can find anything else good in here. I’ve got a feeling there’s probably something nice hiding back here in this corner-”
A shadow looms over the pair. MC’s blood goes cold. They’ve been caught again.
“D’AH! Beel!” Mammon squeaks. “Wh-What’s the big idea sneakin’ up on me like that? How long have you been there…?”
“Did you eat my custard?” Oh no no no no no. “Did you actually eat my CUSTARD?! Answer me, Mammon!”
Who ate it? Well? Answer me! Or none of you are eating tonight.
“N-Now wait a second, Beel! Lemme explain! There’s a good reason for-”
“You did, didn’t you?”
Pink flames envelop the Avatar of Gluttony as part of his human illusion falls away. An intimidating pair of sharp horns curl around his head and massive fly’s wings buzz angrily on his back.
“You… ate… my… CUSTARD!”
“Uh-oh!”
As Mammon attempts to escape Beelzebub’s wrath, all MC can do is remain perfectly still, the custard container clutched tightly to their chest. They’ve. Been. Caught.
It’s ridiculous. A small, hysterical part of MC laughs at the absurdity of being caught between two of the most powerful demons in Hell, squabbling over custard and chasing each other around the kitchen. A choked noise escapes them instead. The custard turns sickeningly sweet in their mouth.
The paralysis is broken when Mammon goes sailing through the kitchen wall. Is that-?
A hole in their wall, just above their head. Screaming voices, crying, begging, accusing. They’ve been caught, and now they will be punished.
Footsteps approach MC, and a figure stands towering over them, so much taller, he wouldn’t even have to lay a hand on them for them to be scared, but he will, he will, he’ll hit them again, again and again and again and-
“MC-”
“PLEASE DON’T HIT ME!” They hold up the custard towards Beelzebub, their limbs confused between the desire to return the offending dessert and protect their face.
The Avatar of Gluttony is almost offended by the outburst, until he hears Mammon groan and attempt to get up, shifting some of the rubble before collapsing once again. Okay, maybe he doesn’t have room to be offended right now.
He plucks the container from MC’s vice-like grip, the difference in strength between the two so great that he doesn’t feel their resistance. Oh, it’s almost completely untouched. Maybe he overreacted… Then again, it is Mammon.
...It’s MC’s room that connects to that wall, isn’t it?
Beelzebub opens his mouth to apologize to MC about their wall, to assure them that they’ll figure out a place for them to sleep until it’s repaired, but they’re already gone, sprinting off further into the House of Lamentation.
Did he scare them that bad…?
~
After the three hours of lecturing that ensued, MC isn’t sure if notifying Lucifer was, in fact, the best idea. While Mammon and Beelzebub had seemed bored, annoyed even, they were barely able to stay on their feet by the end of it. Perhaps they’re still exhausted from their sprint to Lucifer’s study, as well as… other factors.
Lucifer calls their name sternly, as though he has done so several times already. They start and straighten up, but can’t bring themself to quite meet the demon’s eyes.
“I asked you a question.”
“Oh…” they say. “...Sorry...I didn’t-”
“Are you sure you’re comfortable staying in Beelzebub’s room?” They don’t reply, and something in Lucifer’s expression softens. “You were quite distressed when you came to me. If my brothers have done something to upset you, I need to know. Your wellbeing is a crucial part of the exchange program.”
MC laughs humorlessly. “You mean other than destroying my room, I’m guessing.”
The Avatar of Pride falters almost imperceptibly, disguising his surprise with a cough. “Yes, other than… the collateral damage.”
“...Yeah,” they eventually say. “Uh, yes, I’ll stay with Beel until my room is fixed. It’s fine.”
“Wonderful. You’re free to go.” He promptly leaves, muttering about calling the construction worker so soon after the last time.
While MC has a feeling that Beel would be completely fine not addressing the Custard Incident so long as they don’t treat him any differently, they feel the need to explain themself for both their sakes. They tell Beelzebub about their upbringing, about how controlling their parents were when it came to food, and how they’d have to sneak meals more often than not. The punishments they faced when caught doing this.
Beel is horrified and feels incredibly guilty upon finding out what he inadvertently forced MC to relive. He once again assures them that he knew it was Mammon who talked them into eating his custard and that he doesn’t really hold it against them. In fact, from then on, the Avatar of Gluttony invites them on his frequent “snack runs” (which, for Beel, consist of an amount of food MC would normally call a family meal) and personally makes sure they’re eating enough regularly.
One day, MC comes back from a long afternoon studying at RAD and nearly panics all over again at the sight of the kitchen. Saucepans, bowls, half-empty containers, and all sorts of utensils litter the room, not to mention a healthy coating of sweet-smelling fluids. At the centre of this mess is none other than Beel, who smiles and waves upon noticing them, sending more flecks of custard to the floor.
He hands them a container of custard, complete with a lining of various fruits around the edges. On its lid is a note: Property of MC.
It’s very good custard.
“...I…” They can’t. Not if that will happen again. They shake their head, the tears threatening to return.
Lucifer holds back a sigh and nods. “Very well. We’ll find other accommodations until your room is repaired. Perhaps Mammon will get his wish after all…”
Beel doesn’t understand why the human is avoiding him. At first he thought they were still mad about the whole going-on-a-rampage-and-destroying-their-room thing, but they’ve since forgiven Mammon for causing that, so that can’t be it. He keeps returning to the thought that it was something about him, that he scared them so bad they don’t feel safe being around him. Did they think he would try and eat them?
That’s not entirely unfair, he thinks. Especially considering they’re a human in a house with a bunch of demons.
But they aren’t scared around anyone else. Not Satan’s propensity for fatal grudges, not Mammon’s recklessness, not Lucifer’s intimidating presence, not Asmo or Levi’s volatile mood swings… It was just him.
Because he’s just a useless glutton.

Why Do You Care? (HC)
Fandom: Obey Me
Pairing: Platonic HCS with all the demons.
Warning: Mentions of depression, abusive past, thoughts of suicide
Requested by: @thedragongurl03
Prompt: Okay. Hear me out. The Obey Me demon boys platonically helping MC with an abusive background through a depressive episode. Bonus points if MC can't understand why they care since she has spent her whole life around people who treat her like she is nothing.
A/N: I wrote a somewhat similar request here and did my best to not make this hc the same as that one. Also, how and where do I redeem the bonus points? XD
———————————————
Diavolo
You felt guilty for skipping out on classes but were too drained to even get out of bed.
Diavolo was worried about you and came to visit you. He saw you in bed with a tear-stained face and puffy eyes.
He didn't ask you anything; instead, he sat at the edge of the bed and told you a story.
"For as long as I can remember, I have been lonely. As a child, I had no friends, and my family...well, I am not sure what a family is." He gave a small smile, "On top of that, no one has ever truly cared for me...and the ones that seem like they care...it's either because they fear me, respect my title, or it's their duty."
Diavolo wiped away your tears. "After you came here, I felt like I found someone who cares for me - not for King Diavolo but for Diavolo. I see a friend in you, so I hope you feel the same way about me."
Barbatos had told Diavolo about your past, but he wanted to hear your story from you. And, until you were ready to tell him, he was going stand by you as your support.
Barbatos
You were exhausted, tired of everything, and once again felt like you couldn’t take it anymore.
You aimlessly wandered around Devildom, trying to find a way to end it all.
"Hope is the foundation of human life, and you shouldn't give up." A shadow appeared behind you.
"Hope is nothing but a fantasy."
"Take a look around," Barbatos chuckled and appeared in front of you in his demon form, "you are in 'hell' studying alongside demons and angels. If a fantasy such as this can be real, then why not hope?"
He noticed you getting agitated and spoke, "I am already aware of what you have been through. You are amongst people who care for you, and if anything were to happen to you, then everyone would be sad."
He paused for a second and stared you in the eyes, "This includes myself, so please reconsider."
Lucifer
He noticed on multiple occasions that you were tired and were not eating properly.
Then, you collapsed from exhaustion, causing Luci to worry even more.
When you woke up, he was sitting on a chair next to your bed and immediately asked if you were okay.
"Why do you care?"
Your reply shocked him, but he maintained his composure, "You are part of my family...you are important to me. Why would you ask such a question?"
When you hesitated, he patiently waited for your answer. Slowly, you opened your heart to him.
Hearing that people mistreated you and neglected you angered him. How he wished he could hunt down those people and teach them a lesson.
"(Y/N)," he took hold of your hand and spoke softly, "I would never behave in that manner. In fact, no one in Devildom would dare to misbehave with you. You are important to everyone - my brother, the angels, Solomon, Diavolo, and Barbatos."
Lucifer placed a hand on your head. "Most of all, you are important to me, and that fact will never change. I am and will be here for you."
Mammon
He came to show you his new loot, but as soon as he entered your room and saw your belongings scattered, Mammon panicked.
You were huddled in one corner of the room, sobbing in your knees.
He kept asking you what's wrong, but you ignored him. Until you reached a point and got annoyed with him. "Go a-away, Mammon."
"No. I will not go away." He sat next to you and crossed his arms. "I will not leave until you tell me what's wrong."
When you decided to tell him, Mammon got furious.
"You shouldn't waste your time after me either."
Those words were enough to make Mammon snap. "How could you say something like that!?" He took a hold of your shoulders. "Don't you know how important you are to me? You are my everything...my favorite master, my support, and my...friend."
Tears formed in his eyes. "You are so important to me that I would choose you over money. Don't ever say something like that again."
Beel
Beel noticed that you weren't taking care of yourself; moreover, you weren't eating properly.
Every time he asked you to eat, you brushed him off, giving all sorts of excuses. I am not hungry. I don't like eating. I don't want to eat.
Hearing those words upset him, but he made up his mind that he's going to get you to eat.
He came to your room at different times with a variety of food and asked you to try them.
You thought he was clueless and asked you to eat because he loved food. Until one day you asked him why he cared whether or not you ate.
Beel replied, "humans need to eat to survive, don't they? Don't neglect your health...I don't want anything to happen to you."
Belphie
Belphie learned that just like him, you slept a lot, and from then on, he randomly showed up in your room to take naps with you.
He snuck into your room and saw you stirring in your sleep. He figured you were having a nightmare and tried to wake you up.
To his shock, you woke up screaming.
"Hey, relax. It was just a nightmare..."
Your expressions suggested otherwise, and Belphie picked up on this. “(Y/N), you don't sleep all day because you like to sleep...right?"
From that day on, he came to spend more time with you, be it to nap or not.
"Belphie, why are you doing this?"
"You are my dear friend, aren't you? I care for you and want to spend more time with you to let you know that you're not alone."
He doesn't bluntly state that he is aware that you are suffering, but his words are enough to hint that he knows.
Asmo
Asmo noticed that you weren't taking care of yourself. You were even neglecting your daily personal hygiene.
"Sweetie, you need to take care of yourself. Daily care is important for your health." He proceeded to give you a little lecture on routine care.
You assumed that he was saying this because self-care and maintenance of appearance are important to him.
Asmo noticed your expression and kneeled in front of you, taking both of your hands in his. "Dear, you don't need to be so hard on yourself. I know it's easier said than done."
He doesn't push you tell him what's on your mind; instead, Asmo says, "I am here to listen to you if you want to talk, and I am here to help you in any way you need me to."
He helped you to your feet and smiled, "Sweetie, I care about you a lot...just as much as I care about my brothers. Now, let's get you cleaned up."
Satan
For the past few days, Satan noticed that you were angrier than usual and were easily irritated.
"It's my 'job' to be angry." He joked but noticed that you didn't take it well and asked, "What is making you this upset?"
"Do you care?"
"Yes, I do. You are part of my family, so it's only natural for me to care."
Satan was shocked to see you speechless. As he studied your reaction, something dawned upon him - this possibly couldn't be the first time you heard this, right?
He didn't want to touch on any sensitive subjects or topics; instead, he rested his hand on your shoulder and said, "letting go of the past is difficult. I would know better than anyone, but you need to try."
Satan smiled gently and added, "You are the reason why I learned to get along with Lucifer, and you're the one who brought this family together. Now, it's my turn to return the favor."
Levi
You locked yourself in your room for a few days, and everyone was worried, especially Levi.
He asked you to come to his room because he needs to show you something.
When you got there, he handed you a controller and urged you to play a short game.
As you proceeded in the game, you realized the story seemed familiar. A lonely MC suffering from hate and meeting seven brothers.
Each brother told MC that he cared for them and wanted to see them happy.
At the end of the game, the brother resembling Levi appeared on the screen and said, "you are not only my favorite normie but are also my best friend. I can relate to you and know how you feel, so please don't suffer alone. Let's suffer together!"

Hello! I don't know if you've been asked about this before but I love your analysis and reflections and I'd love to know all your thoughts about Zennezu if you don't mind 👀⚡🎀 Thanks so much for this blog!! 😊💝
Thank you again for your patience, as well as your comments on my fics and stuff in the meantime (even on Bird Fic, kya~ thank you <3). All my thoughts, hmmmmn…. Well, clearly I am a fluffy ZenNezu shipper and ship-content creator now, but I sure didn’t start that way. This may be long and rambling and mixed between analysis and personal taste. (Actually, it turned into almost 4000 words.)
So. First a little background. I usually am not much of a shipper. The very few OTPs I have all ended in horrific tragedy, and when romance is a big focus of something I’m otherwise enjoying I usually end up not paying much attention to it in favor of all the other elements I like. This is so much more the case when you can tell they’re going to wind up happily ever after. So what happened to make me so soft and fuzzy about the Kimetsu ships, when I otherwise usually don’t have an appetite for happy fluffy romantic endings?
Three major factors: 1. I’m obsessed. 2. I love these characters and want to see anything and everything about them. 3. Romance wasn’t actually a big element at all in canon, so it left me with an appetite and curiosity for it.
Even though I figured from long ago that ZenNezu would be end game, initially I was somewhere between indifferent and put-off. As much as I love Zenitsu, and I acknowledge that Ufotable the added the “run around and chase Nezuko” bit and removed the part with Zenitsu adoringly talking to Nezuko through her box, and as much as he can be defended for being lonely rather a pervert, the fact still stands that his level of appreciation for girls makes the characters around him uncomfortable. His most cringe-worthy lines at the Butterfly Mansion are all straight from the manga, and even though he was easily one of my favorite characters by the end of my initial watch of the series, I was very put off by his “girls are all queens” surface-level comments and more disturbing pleasure he took in the presence of girls (especially when he could physically interact with them), not to mention his pathetic introduction bothering a complete stranger and displaying that he doesn’t actually take girls’ feelings into consideration.
All this made me inwardly groan, feeling bad for Nezuko, figuring they were going to wind up together because she’s a saint who can find the patience to deal with someone like that, as he clearly wasn’t going to be desirable to any of the rest of the female cast. Enjoying the series well enough despite this, it didn’t bother me terribly much, pairings happen, whatever, I have a history of ignoring them. But one day, well and deep into caring about this whole cast like they’re all my children, I realized something. Isn’t… isn’t it cute how they both get their strength from taking naps? W-wouldn’t it be cute to see them innocently take naps together? Naps to protect each other? Oh. Oh-h-h-h-h. Oh dear. Oh no, it’s cute. Oh no. OH NO.
And that was how my warming up to this pairing started, it very quickly grew into “I love these children and I want them to be happy, being with Nezuko will make Zenitsu very, very happy, I love seeing him happy, happy Zenitsu” but was still a little reserved about Nezuko. Zenitsu was going to make her happy, right? It wasn’t just going to be a case of Nezuko having gotten fond of him over the course of everything they’ve been though, he is actually going to be her taste and make her heart go “kyun” right? Oh Nezuko, oh saintly Nezuko…
Let’s take a moment to pause here and think chronologically, though, as well as analyze their personalities and tastes. Neither of them are particularly picky, we can start there. Aside from fussy busy-bodies like Aoi, as long as it’s a girl, any girl is Zenitsu’s type. He’s desperate, and he’s painted the whole of girl-kind in pretty similar, not always realistic rosy colors. Even though he’s been used and abused by so many girls in his past, it’s his desire to believe that each new one he meets will fit that rosy imaginary color he paints over them that he chooses to let himself be duped, because he really is that lonely. I’ll give him that, sure, he’s a healthy young man with an interest in physical touch, but his dream in Mugen Ressha gives a good indication of what he’s really looking for: companionship, someone who likes spending time with him, someone who will find him useful and believe in him and look to him for protection, someone who likes him enough to spare him the physical intimacy of simply holding his hand. This is all an extension of what Zenitsu desires as whole, hoping he can better himself enough to be reliable and valued in general. Picturing it in the form of a significant other is one very vivid way to focus all those feelings, resulting in that rosy ideal which Zenitsu probably knows in his heart of hearts is too good to be true. That’s why he probably doesn’t think he’s ever going to find it, and therefore why he’s all over any slightest chance of attaining it.
My gosh, if being abandoned over and over isn’t enough, the fact that none of the girls he dated in the past were ever willing to even hold his hand hurts so much.
Nezuko, though, grew up in a secure family with a good relationship to observe between her parents. She probably always envisioned growing up to be like her mother, the quintessential “good wife, wise mother” (a phrase coined later on in the Taisho period to idealize the traditional roles of a woman). She cooks and cleans and sews and the first fanbook even tells us she was good at using an abacus, so she can handle family finances like a pro. Her traditional values probably made her tastes pretty standard, hoping for a reliable protector, but also someone who might be as kind as her father and her brother. But as for what makes her heart go doki-doki? The extra comic at the end of volume 3 tells us that she does long since have a type, it’s a person who’s like a Hisha.
Hisha: a chess/Shougi piece that can move an unlimited number of spaces in horizontal and vertical directions, and is crowned a dragon when it enters enemy territory.
So, yes, this is the part where we all smile and point at Gotouge and say, “I see what you did there, Wani-sensei.”
I find this reassuring; it tells me that Nezuko can find her heart squeezed at how cool Zenitsu is instead of just coming around and liking him because she was flattered by his affection and learned to see how nice he is and stuff. There are plenty of nice Demon Slayers who are strong and cool protectors, but that ZING that Zenitsu has (when he’s asleep) is something that can make her heart race. I’m all for this. I hinge so much of my ZenNezu feelings on this Hisha comment.
The second fanbook states that Nezuko initially had trouble sorting out her memories, and because Zenitsu gave her two such different impressions, it felt like memories of two different people, but over time the memories overlapped to form one complete person. We could say that she and Zenitsu had two first meetings.
Initially, when she was in the box, her little demon heart did go doki-doki; it was the first time a boy besides her brother had protected her, so even though Oniichan is Number One in her heart for the general duration of canon, this encounter was sure to leave a flattering impression. However, when they met face to face that night, he was just some confusing dandelion yelling and screaming about weird stuff, and then he was just a confusing (and possible bothersome) dandelion wanting to hang around her and give her flowers and stuff. It’s anyone’s guess just how “there” Nezuko was at this stage, as she does seem to gain back more of her own will and thought processes over the course of the series, rather than being guided by very, very simple rules to govern her behavior.
Zenitsu feel in love at first sight, and the second fanbook tells us he asked Tanjiro about her human personality, seeing as she wasn’t fully there. He was initially doubtful that anyone so perfect as Nezuko could exist and figured Tanjiro must had been biased and therefore exaggerating, but can we blame Zenitsu for being a smidge guarded? He’s been let down a lot, after all.
We know from Taisho Secrets and side novels that Zenitsu spent a lot of time with Nezuko during their long recovery at the Butterfly Mansion. Even how much more thought we see Nezuko display in the Train arc, she probably underwent a lot of mental development in this time, and my guess is that due to how much he interacted with her, this is probably when Zenitsu went from being a strange dandelion to a strange companion. She probably focused more on the goldfish and the pretty flowers (which he did take her to see!) and any flattering mention of her brother, though. Zenitsu, I’m relieved to say, seemed to genuinely care about what would make Nezuko happy instead of selfishly assuming something like “she likes me too, she wants to marry me.” But knowing Zenitsu, he probably assumed that her willingness to spend time with him was an indication of being willing to talk marriage once she was more herself again, though.
Let’s pause here and put on our Oniichan goggles, though. Early on, Tanjiro has to insist to just about everyone that Nezuko is still her own person with her own thoughts and feelings. Being a demon has taken a lot of her freedom to act on her true nature away from her, but he knows she’s still in there and he treats her like an equal human being. He had to watch over and over as people see his sister and only think, “demon.”
And then there’s his friend Zenitsu, who looks at her and thinks, “girl. Girl! Girl. Girl. Sweet girl, adorable girl, best girl in the world.” And maybe that’s a little bothersome, but yes, someone gets it!! Someone understands! Even though Tanjiro’s initial concerns are keeping Nezuko from being bothered by unwelcome advances, as long as Zenitsu is willing to respect that Nezuko is not entirely able to speak for herself now, he seems pretty approving of Zenitsu (provided Nezuko decides she likes him back). I’d like to think there was an unspoken promise between bros on what boundaries to follow. Besides that, Tanjiro believes in Zenitsu a lot more than Zenitsu believes in himself, so Tanjiro probably wasn’t worried about the “strong protector” role a future husband should fulfil. Or at least, Tanjiro doesn’t seem concerned once he gets to know Zenitsu, he’d have rejected Zenitsu flat-out on that first meeting. Zenitsu, you are so lucky Tanjiro is so forgiving.
However, for as much as Zenitsu sees Nezuko as “GIRL!! Girl, girl, girl!”, he’s still got his rosy vision that conveniently clouds out any disturbing realities. She is, after all, a demon.
This is something Zenitsu never actually had the chance to struggle with, and I would have really liked to see him challenged by that reality a bit more. He never witnessed Nezuko’s berserker mode, nor did he ever see her struggle to keep from eating someone, he wasn’t even awake to watch her fight like a violent animal/angry toddler on the train. Had there been a scene of Zenitsu forced to face how terrifying she had potential to be, it would had really sold his commitment to Nezuko specifically, instead of only Nezuko as his most likely girlfriend candidate.
On the train, Nezuko has the good fortune of seeing another side of Zenitsu, getting one hell of a doki-doki moment. As she’s gaining more self-awareness back, it probably made those doki-dokis more complex too. While I understand there wasn’t a good opportunity to fit in the pace of the story, I love that Taisho Secret of her concerned about him before he wakes up. Instead of him just being that boy who shows her pretty things and says nice things about her Oniichan, this is when he starts becoming something a little more unique among all the people whom little demon Nezuko has bet and who have been nice to her.
In the months that follow, we don’t get much deviation from this slow development. Zenitsu’s feelings toward Nezuko don’t really change at all, but there’s another thing about this ship: neither one chose the other over anybody else. They sort of just came together, Zenitsu gets hooked on one girl at a time, but what if someone had come along with an interest in him? At what point would he had given up on Nezuko? Probably pretty quickly, if someone was serious enough about him. It wouldn’t have been a break up either, since he was still in the pursuing stages (might be more of a break-up conversation with Tanjiro, who had been tacitly supportive).
Actually, for most of the remainder of the series, the affection that Nezuko and Zenitsu build for each other is done when they’re apart, dwelling on their thoughts of each other. For Nezuko, we see this come out after the Swordsmith Village arc in her sunlit elation to see him again, and her efforts to greet him. She very clearly recognizes him and is happy to see him, a big difference compared to how she was more elated by the sight of a fishbowl before. In Zenitsu’s case, this deepening of his affections and running away with his thoughts and feelings results him declaring once and for all, this is her. He’s found her. This is the girl who he will be committed to his whole life, in his heart she is already his wife.
When human!Nezuko is gaining her memories back, her first impressions are of the boy showing her pretty things and giving her flowers, someone who probably has a crush on her, rather than thinking back to someone who she may have had a crush on. (Those cool impressions probably hit her later, I’m assuming, given the stress of the moment.) Romance is not immediately on her mind, though she does quickly recall having friendly affection for this boy for has always been so sweet to her. And Nezuko, handling his surprising level of affection gracefully, helps Zenitsu off the battlefield while he’s in terrible pain (though she probably was too, my poor girl, that fight with demon!Tanjiro was so rough). But honestly, not only is she probably too overwhelmed by everything to think much about romance, but she probably doesn’t take Zenitsu very seriously initially. She knows he’s got a tendency to overexaggerate, and it’s nice that he’s so sweet to her, but since he acts all fluffy and silly around her she probably thinks he’s not being that serious either. Furthermore, she’s got a lot of people to suddenly care about, Zenitsu has a lot to contend with for trying to get special attention. Hell, Zenitsu was probably awake and causing a racket while she was frantic with worry that comatose Giyuu might die. While she did remake Jiichan’s haori to fit Zenitsu’s later, see spent her time in the hospital mending Giyuu’s haori (Nezuko, baby, doesn’t your hand hurt though!?). While Zenitsu was swept up in happy “Nezuko is human now, we’re totally gonna get married” feels, he probably didn’t even notice that he was only one slice in a very big pie of memories that Nezuko suddenly found in her lap and had to slowly chew and digest.
So… this brings us to the extra post-canon comic in the second fanbook, which I initially did not like very much back when it came out in February. I’ve come around a lot to it, but what really hit me at first was “oh no, Nezuko really is only going to accept this marriage because she’s a saint, he’s not being desirable at all.”
But, treating it with a little more patience and sympathy for Zenitsu… he’s just gotten what he’s always wanted, of course he’s going to stop striving a bit and get blissfully carried away in it. And Nezuko, the ever sweet, isn’t going to stop him.
Some of the other commentary in the fanbook states that Zenitsu, for a time, found himself terrified of how girls could be sweet to his face while hiding their true thoughts about him. But, finding that Nezuko was not at all two-faced, he nearly “died and went to heaven” as the exaggeration goes. He doesn’t like to work hard in the first place (but does, because it will make people like Jiichan proud), so getting away with being spoiled is too big of a temptation to resist. Nezuko is sensitive to what makes the people around her happy or uncomfortable, so she never makes any request of Zenitsu. She’s so grateful to have their new little family that her happiness is everyone else’s happiness, she doesn’t really desire a heartthrob romance, even if being a wife and mother is an eventual goal. And, without being under any pressure to make someone proud, Zenitsu gets swept away and indulges.
Thank you, Tanjiro, for putting a stop to this.
He’s still rooting for Zenitsu, since this is his friend and he knows it would make his friend happy to wind up with Nezuko, but he’s setting himself up for failure, or setting Nezuko up to be cheated out on a good match at this rate (if she were to accept out of being nice). Very, very thankfully, Zenitsu responds well to pressure. By this point Nezuko has gotten so used to sweet but indulgent Zenitsu that he seems she totally accepted that his Hisha side didn’t exist anymore, if it even existed in the first place.
Good for Zenitsu asking for her response a year later (when they’d be getting to the legal marriage ages for the Taisho period anyway), he knew he still had shaping up to do to earn her affection. And Nezuko probably needed time to build some admiration for him again, since the doki-dokis were so gone. Even if he couldn’t use that super cool Thunder Breath anymore, it would probably catch her attention to see him strive again, to put effort into being manly, specifically for her. It wasn’t just the Thunder Breath that gave her doki-dokis, it was the Hisha knight-like attitude too, whether asleep and acting on his inner potential, or awake and bravely defending her based on his own goodness and faith.
I hope that in their married life, Zenitsu will retain that sort of manliness in being a provider for her, even he does get indulged a lot at home.
Now for how this plays into some of my fanwork and headcanons:
You know how I said all my OTPs were tragedies? Yeah, I love a good dose of angst. I did start writing a single-scene fic one time of injured Zenitsu desperately trying to cover Nezuko from the sun while waiting for Tanjiro to find them, and in Nezuko’s panic about the sun she starts losing her self-control over her appetite, and Zenitsu is forced to confront that the girl he loves could very easily kill him. I never finished it, though, and it was embarrassingly self-indulgent.
For my big favorite AU of a monster fanfic, I did add more ZenNezu on the massive edit, because by this point I just enjoy ZenNezu so much that I wanted more of it. But!! What I really like about working with it in this fic is that there’s a conflict: Demon!Tanjiro. In this canon divergence, Human!Nezuko and Zenitsu get to interact more than they ever did while she was a demon, and they both already have affection for each other, but the lingering fact that Tanjiro is technically their enemy gives me some tension and angst to work with.
Yes, I wrote a One Shot of Zenitsu and Nezuko as fresh new parents, but it was a bit of a dark dive into Zenitsu’s feelings of inadequacy. But domesticity comes with some inevitable fluff anyway, and likewise it felt embarrassing indulgent, and I can’t write fluff without a little bittersweetness. M…maybe the reason I’m not a shipper is because I’m easily flustered???
I’d like to think that Zenitsu got a desk job that he worked hard at because he wants to be a provider, and Nezuko does find his hard work attractive. I headcanon it was at an electric company, because hahahaha, electricity. I’d like to think he had a long career in that company (and although his colleagues know him for having a bit of an extreme personality and being obsessed with his wife, they sometimes catch glimpses of a very, very strong side of Zenitsu—like, scarily strong), and that when he’s old and retired in the Postwar Economic Miracle, he buys a fancy camera to take pictures of Nezuko (instead of “say cheese” it’s “Thunderclap and Flash!”), and he takes Nezuko to Paris because that’s the romantic thing to do. Also, I don’t like moustaches as a rule, but I totally approve of old man Zenitsu having a fluffy moustache.
World War Two, though… I’d like to think that if his job had him in the city, he was extremely reliable when it came to protecting his family in case of bombing. I’d also like to think that this was when the Kamado family moved to the city, because Nezuko was worried about Kanao and her nieces and nephews, so Zenitsu made sure they were all together. Inosuke might had taken the opposite route and taken his family to the mountains to shelter out there in the wild.
AAAAHHHH, listen to me being so self-indulgent with headcanons, I pride myself on sticking close to canon in my fanwork, I will never produce this, AAAAHHHH, I’m embarrassed~~~~I---I’m not a shipper! No! I don’t have a shipper’s bone in my body! Who needs romance, it means nothing to me, I don’t get swept up in happy fantasies about young newlywed Zenitsu and Nezuko, really I don’t, I take what canon gives me and I stick with it, I’m here for bromance and comradery and fights to the death, I—I don’t need disgusting fluffy feelings, ew, ew, no, really-----ahhh, too flustered, too flustered, too flustered, no, no, no, no, no, no, WHEN DID I BECOME A SHIPPER, nnnnnnnnhhhhjjjj
Which is all to say that Zenitsu and Nezuko as a pairing really grew on me, even though it is essentially a fluffy happy pairing that only got surface-level interaction and was never seriously challenged. It’s got some shadows lurking in there, especially diving into Zenitsu’s heart, but in general this was a slow build-up of mutual affection between two characters with pretty simple desires of their own, and most of all, a desire to see each other happy. That makes it a good comfort ship.
And they’re both are sleepyheads, hNNNGGGHHHhhhhHHHHHHHHHHH

han seo headcanons (part 4)
writing this is cathartic tbh. of course, i always write on the days i have an exam to prep for (aka my lit exam tmrw thats technically today)!! we make good life decisions here at clown nation <3

tw: mentions of abuse
the first time they competed, vincenzo was away on his buisness trip to italy. he had some loose ends to tie up after his little contract and getting paulo off the helm of the mafia.
which meant that jipuragi was particularly empty without the italian-korean's presence. no one to give han seo a pat on his back. no one to look over cha-young's shoulder.
they all felt it hard, as if the firm had a huge hole where vincenzo is supposed to be
han seo felt himself looking at his desk every single time he passed by it. the first day was more jarring than the rest, he had gotten used to vincenzo's presence in his life.
it was a particularly late friday night at jipuragi. han seo lugged into the firm a gigantic stack of contracts and internal documents about babel so the laywers and him can go through each one. cha-young had to carry both her and vincenzo's load for that week with vincenzo in italy.
they were stressed and tired and had a million paper cuts from sorting through each pile of documents. all three of them were working quietly, the silence comfortable, save for the sounds of russling paper and pens scratching across notepads
"alright, i'm off for the night. i have a airplane competition tomorrow morning and i need jason to fly far for me so i can finally win that 500 dollar prize. goodnight byeonosanim, mr. jang" the paralegal said as he put on his satchel and took out his cycle. he waved his goodbyes as the he left, leaving han seo and cha-young in the office by themselves.
they had only known each other for two weeks, really. han seo always met his hyung vincenzo over drinks or over at his house. he only ever saw the pretty lawyer from a distance, usually when taking note of how his hyung vincenzo dotes over her just so he can tease him about her
and use her to distract his hyung
it always works
cha-young didn't know much about the young ceo, despite meeting him a couple times from her time at wusang. part of her never wanted to trust him, even though he had proven himself and his loyalty to vincenzo, because in the world she lived in, everyone could betray the other at any time
but his presence in the office was comforting to her. he had come in, dressed like an 80s disco star and all asking if he could join the team, and somehow, he stuck with her.
something in her wanted to trust him. he seemed unassuming and loyal to the core, especially to vincenzo. the way he always walked into the firm grinning, visiting the plaza residents. he had an energy about him that reminded him of a younger sibling she's always wanted
but she was burned once with prosecutor jung and she's learned her lesson so it was time for the ultimate test
"are you hungry?" she asked, shuffling through her papers one last time before standing up, and putting the stacks back into their file system
han seo was startled for a second, his head buried deep with in the papers, the words almost swimming together with the amount of times he had to look through these contracts
for a second, he thought she was speaking to vincenzo, not himself before he remembered that vincenzo wasn't here this week
"Oh yes, byeonosanim. Would you like to order something or..?" he'd replied as he stood up from his seat, giving his legs a strech. he had forgotten just how tired he was until she asked him, his body feeling the effects of running the company and being at jipuragi
"Yeah, we can. I have the perfect restaurant to get some food from! they're always open late too so it's really convenient" she quipped back, her back facing him as she started putting all the contracts back into place and started pulling out new ones to look over
he followed suit, clearing up the table he was working on and moving to the paralegal’s desk.
even though his work was often hard for him to understand, the legal and formal language needing multiple reads, he felt refreshed each time he came to the plaza
he'd established a daily routine here, going to check on the hee-soo at the snack bar, visiting the pawnshop
he's quite good with his hands. he'd always known he had a knack for taking things apart and fixing them, which especially helped at the pawnshop when college students and older families would come by with broken tablets and gadgets.
even though he was rich, barely anything was spent on him when his dad was alive. every single new outfit or toy always went to han-seok, where as he was stuck with the ragged hand me downs, and old toys.
so when he had gotten his first phone, and broken the keypad, (because han seok threw it across the room when he got angry that he had the same model as his illegitimate brother) he understood it was up to him to figure it out.
he was always good at taking things apart, from all his toy cars to majority of the gadgets and clocks he had in his house.
(there was a day, when he was younger, that he took apart han seok's toy car. the next school day he walked around with gloves, trying to forget about how his cuts hurt as he curled his fingers around a pencil)
taking things apart and then putting them back together the same way was somehow natural to him. but of course, none of that mattered since he couldn't score well enough on his exams to get past the courses he needed to into engineering. plus, he could imagine the sneer on his father's face if he told him what path he was considering...
for most of his life, he'd felt useless compared to his brother. he was never the quick-witted boy at school, failing his english courses and having to go to cram schools and tutoring sessions just to pass by.
he hated going to school everyday, having the teachers shame him for not being as smart as his brother, not being as charismatic or as smooth talking
the exam days were always the worst. looking at the exam sheet, his palms sweaty and his throat tight as he looked at the questions
the doubt was overwhelming. the pressure made him sweat and freeze up even though he knew the problems.
the kids at his schools always seemed to prefer han seok, for some weird reason, when to him he's always been the menace in his life.
han seok was the one to head the company. the one he can't measure up to in front of his father. the one to push the family forward. every bit of praise, every second of attention, it all went to han seok.
han seo was the mistake. the one who always fucked it up. the one who seemed to mess up his brother's plans.
his brother seemed to take it upon himself to remind him that he wasn't meant to be alive. and their father, believing it to be good for han seo, would force him to be tutored by han seok every day.
his brother had a field day with it, finding the most creative ways to abuse and torture him
of course, he's not allowed to say a word about it.
at first, working at jipuragi was anxiety inducing, sweat drenching his shirt each time he brought a document he thought useful to vincenzo, his throat closing up imagining the consequences of fucking up
he knew deep down, that vincenzo wasn't like his brother, he will not hurt him, he will not kill him
but the anxiety and panic are second nature to him
his eyes were glued to his shoes after he handed it over to vincenzo.
vincenzo paused, looking over the document with scrutiny. and his body was automatically bracing for a slap, a punch. at the very least a snide remark or a sneer.
instead he looked up at han seo, nodding, and told him "this is very useful. thank you."
thank you.
thank you. he blinked.
the words echoed in his head as he replayed them back over and over. thank you. in all his years working, no one had said thank you. no words of appreciation were ever dealt for doing his job. for doing something right.
unable to think of a reply, he walked back to his desk and sat down, the shock overwhelming him before he got his mind working again
although it took him double the time to go through the contracts than it did vincenzo or cha-young, he was never berated. there was never a comment about how slow he was, how he wasn't cut out for this, only appriciative glances and words when he did well
and when he didn't, they corrected him, gently. never maliciously, never taunting, always gentle.
and for the first time, he could breathe
the time passed by quickly as they both continued working in silence, han seo finishing up half a stack before the doorbell rang.
"i'll get it! ceo jang, can you set the table up?" cha-young looked toward as she went to grab the food from the delivery man
"yes, byeonosanim" he replied as he went to grab some disposable plates and wooden chopsticks from the cabinet
he set everything out just in time for the lawyer to set the food down. he squinted at the bowls she pulled out, the bright red liquid a stark contrast to the white containers.
"uh, byeonosanim, what is that?"
"hm? oh it's fire noodles. you don't mind spice do you, han seo?" she quirked her eyebrow at him, her voice sickly sweet
and he grinned at her and that was enough of an answer: it was showdown time.
so there he was, sitting across from cha-young, the container of red chili oil central to both of them. both of their suit coats were off, lest they start literally heating up.
oh, and if either of them reach for their water: they're out.
for about 10 seconds, they stared at each other, trying to psych each other out, before his phone timer counted down.
....3, 2, 1 and they were off!
both of them grabbed their chopsticks and spoons and ate two large bites and drank the broth before angling for one spoon full of chili oil into their noodles.
and on they went in this cycle, eating a bite and drinking broth, and pouring chili oil in after each cycle.
3 pours in, and they were still doing good, neither of them showing any signs of redness
6 pours in and his tongue was swollen, her eyes watery, their broth bright red
7 pours in and .... was it just him or was the room getting hotter?
8 and you could see the sweat dripping the lawyer's forehead, the sniffles of the lawyer getting louder and louder. meanwhile he was panting, trying to increase the circulation into his mouth
9 and their arms meet across the table, inches from the chili oil. their eyes lock, their faces bright red and the pain of his tongue unbearable
his eyes are squinted (from his eyes burning or from concentration, we'll never know) and the lawyer is making faces, trying to get him to give in
"it'll" *huff* "be easier" *huff* "if you give in now" *huff*
he laughed back, in response. "and let you win? no way. I'M getting that paper crown"
their eyes both glance at the flimsy, blue paper crown set upon it's carrier, a stack of contracts
she scoffed back (and almost choked) "absolutely not"
they stare each other down as they pour more in and go for another round
they swallow and in that second, cha-young made a fatal mistake
she breathed in the fumes. and coughed. and grabbed the water before she could think about it.
"AHAHA I WIN!!" he yelled out, the chair flying back as he jumped up, the layer of sweat easing up when he grabbed the bottle of water and chugged the whole thing down
the lawyer on the other hand, was slumped in the seat, taking the opportunity to also chug the water.
for around 10 seconds all they did was pant, getting their bodies back into a normal pace before cha-young spoke up
"fine i guess you win, have a great night!" she jabbered out quickly but he knew what she was trying to do
"nuh uh, nope, you're not getting out of this. we agreed! loser has to crown the winner." he grinned at her, his eyes completely closed as his happiness shone through
sighing, the lawyer grabbed the crown from it's holy pedastal and stomped over.
"tun ta da da !!! all hail king han seo, destroyer of spice, the unyielding one" she sang out, her voice deeper as traces of laughter tinted her voice
she placed the crown upon his name and bowed, "may he reign forever" and looked up and shot him a wink "at least, until i win next time"
he struck a superman pose, and puffed his chest out, before both of them crumbled into laughter, cha-young dramatic one ringing above his cackling
"we should do this again please, noona!" he wheezed out, his stomach hurting from laughter.
but it was only his ringing out, as hers cut out sharply.
"noona?"
he paused as his head whipped around to the lawyer, her head tilted as she looked at him
did i say that? i swear i called her byeonosanim... and he replayed the moment.
fuck.
"ah, i'm so sorry hong cha young byeonosanim, i overstepped, i apologize," he bowed in apology to her.
"do you call vincenzo byeonosanim hyung?"
"huh?" he looked up at her in confusion, "uh, yeah i do call him hyung. why?"
"you can call me noona then." she quipped back and for a second, he stared at her. wait what?
she clapped his back, and he choked on his spit, the clap knocking the air out of him "relax. you passed the test han-seo. i've always wanted a younger brother, you know? you can call me noona. as long as you remember your manners, that is," shooting him a wink
he glanced at her, before breaking out into the biggest grin, his gums peaking out.
"okay... cha-young noona!" he giggled, as they took their seats.
she grinned back, settling in.
"ah, you know noona, he said the same thing as you"
"huh?" she squinted back
"vin hyung! he said the same 'you better mind your manners'" han seo laughed as he mocked the korean-italian mafia's voice
"you know, that impression is spot on!" she laughed as he continued the voice, adding in the classic hand gestures, until both of them broke into laughter.
for some reason, both of them were instantly comfortable with one another.
for han seo, laughing with cha-young, trading insults and teasing felt warm, it felt like he'd found a best friend (a best friend who once upon a time he almost maimed by sending thugs after her, but she swore to him that all is forgiven) they had similar humor, similar tastes, similar personalities
for cha-young, he felt like a partner in crime. not like the way vincenzo her partner in life in crime, but in the way that they were both pranksters, both with similar personalities and bright humor
it felt like finding a sibling, a person to commit crimes with, a person to clown together with
"you know, noona, is vin hyung..." he paused mid-sentence, contemplating if he could ask this.
"go on, han seo" cha-young encouraged him, one hand bringing the bottle of water to her mouth
"is he your boyfriend?" he rushed out the words and—
he was sprayed in the face.
cha-young was sputtering as the water dripped off his face, and his eyes shut as he wiped off the excess
"yah, why would you even ask that?" she scoffed out refusing to meet his eyes, but he could see the red tint creeping up on her neck and her cheeks
he shot her a look.
"yeah, yeah okay. he and i are... partners"
"oh." he quipped back, a sinister smile slowly spreading across his face
"no, no, no" she shook her at him, "i do not have a crush on him"
he raised an eyebrow back "who said anything about a crush hm, noona?"
she froze and he knew he'd have next weeks entertainment sorted
"you know maybe i'll take back that younger brother thing if this is how it's like" she taunted, but he didn't feel any hurt. instead her teasing just made his heart soar, her teasing somehow a comfort
"oh, we're just getting started!" he quipped back, as they cleaned up for the night, continuing their conversation as they restored the firm back to order.
"i've noticed you going to the pawnshop a lot recently" she noted, as she grabbed a stack of contracts to put back into the filing cabinet
"ahh, yeah i've been helping them out. they're having a baby you know and it must be hard on both of them to run the shop" he responded as he stacked another set of contracts together, clearing Mr. Nam's desk
"you should do it."
"what?"
"study electronics. or at least continue working for the pawnshop."
he stared at her.
how did she know? for someone so bright and busy he didn't expect her to be so observant to him.
"oh please, like it's hard to notice. i've seen the way you always seem to be happier as you pass by the pawnshop. when i popped in during lunch, i saw you, hunched over the tablet. it's the happiest i've seen you look."
"oh." he grew quiet "it's a little too late, don't you think noona? for me to even consider that? i'd be a little foolish to follow that"
she sighed and turned to him, grabbing the stack from his arms. "let me tell you a story han seo. i'm 34 years old and a lawyer and don't get me wrong, i love doing this. but when i was little my dream was always to sing. but for years, i pushed it back, thinking i could never do it."
she stuffed the papers to the back corner, somehow managing to stuff it in and turned back to him.
"so, noona? did you do it?"
"patience. a couple weeks after my final exam for law school, i said why the hell not. and now i've been taking lessons one and off for years!"
"you should give a demo!! sing for us"
"oh, please i couldn't possibly do it" she tucked her hair back, looking bashful.
"ple-" he barely got the words out.
"oh of course, if you insist!" she grabbed the empty water bottle and climbed on her stool, the makeshift stage for the night
"noona! noona!!" han seo cheered her on as she stood up. she cleared her throat, moving her head to the side and warming up
and she opened her mouth.
and sang.
if you could call that singing.
what came out was more of a series of tone-deaf screeches, making him wince but mask his face with a smile, trying to solider through the pain.
he clapped as SOON as she finished the last note, his ears grateful for the break. she took a flourished bow as she jumped off the stool
"how was it?"
"noona, that was amazing!" he lied, trying his best to stop the ringing in his ears.
she smacked him with her water bottle "yah! you liar! i'm god awful" she made one of her classic faces.
"you know??? and you made me endure that???" he touched his ears. he expected to see blood but luckily the damage wasn't too bad
"YAH!" she smacked him again. "you brat, the point isn't that i'm good or not."
"then what is?" his eyebrows furrowed as he looked in confusion.
if you're not good at it then what really is the point? why should i keep trying?
"the point is that i'm happy. it doesn't matter how good you are at something for you to consider it an interest, as long as it makes you happy."
he paused. no one had ever said that before. to do what makes him happy. not what made his father or his brother happy. everyone's advice all his life was to stick to what you're good at and that there isn't a point in trying if you aren't good from the beginning.
"look i'm terrible at singing. but i know that if i had never pursued it, i would have grown old and regretted it. so what if i am bad! at least i got to do it while i'm alive! give electronics a shot, han seo."
han seo bit his lip slightly. and he nodded.
he was going to give it a shot.
"good! now lets get this cleaned up and go home!" she sashayed off to her desk, grabbing the last of her stuff before they left the firm.
the next week, when vincenzo was back from italy, he had expected to find the firm just like he left it. what he didn't expect was his girlfriend wife partner and brother han seo, one sprawled on the couch and the other on the floor, piles of blankets and what looked like a mic and SEVERAL bottles of sujo scattered across the table.
they were both in matching pajama sets, and snoring very loudly. he shuffled over to his desk where a note that looked like it was written in crayon was left
and it said
"dear vin hyung: noona and i were having a sleepover last night. i made sure she was extra safe and did not do anything overly amitious (like call you in the middle of the night to ask you if you had to leave) if you are seeing the mess that we probably made, please excuse it. i will clean it up as soon as i can. grazie!
p.s. you should ask noona out sometime, i have it in good word that she might be interested ;)
to be continued...
a/n: let this be a fic reminding you that if you are passionate about something, pursue it! our world conditions us to believe that you have to be good at something in order to be able to do it but that's absolute bs. please give your younger and future selves a chance by taking up something you've always wanted to do <3

Is there anyway you could share the entire livejournal essay about Hermione's reaction to Ron coming back in DH? The few paragraphs that you referred to in your recent answer sound extremely interesting.
[The “recent answer” that goes back to... last December. Oh my god I’m such an ass I left you hanging for so long I’m so sorry.]
Okay, okay, so here goes! KEEP IN MIND: I DIDN’T WRITE THIS. I FOUND THIS ON LIVEJOURNAL AND PICKED EVERYTHING THAT I LIKED ABOUT IT, AS WELL AS SOME COMMENTS THAT INTERESTED ME.
This “essay” was actually more of a “reading the books” thing with the person sharing their thoughts and ideas about it. The person was clearly a Snape fan, but they had sympathy for Ron too. I’ll try to formate it as accurately as I can remember it.
And now, here it is:
---
ORDER OF THE PHOENIX
[About Ron being made a prefect.] The essayist: It’s sad, but this probably is the first time Ron’s beaten Harry at something. And the last time.
A commenter: Ron's had a really difficult life, and this is the book that proved it for me. It made me a Ron fan. Just look at the interactions he has with Fred and George. This is commonplace. I know a lot of people don't like Ron, but just look at this book, this chapter especially. People have accused Ron of being lazy, unambitious, having no emotions, and being a big stupid boy. It's just not true. Look at how Fred and George needle him out of jealousy. Look at how they treat Percy. Imagine Ron having to grow up with two older brothers that will not hesitate to bother, torture and torment people that stand out or that get more attention than they do or that cross them. He saw it happening with Percy, so what's he going to learn? He'll learn to shut up unless he wants to have something happen to him. He'll learn that standing out positively is rewarded with cruelty. I can understand how Mrs. Weasley could not have fully protected him from those two. Not all the time, not while trying to also care for Ginny, keeping up with her other kids in school, and running the household. Worst of all, punishing F&G doesn't seem to do anything. Those two just don't care/they crave the attention, negative or positive. The best thing she could've done would be to give them no attention, but that's so against her nature that unfortunately she just fed the monsters. No emotions? Is it really difficult to understand that sensitivity wouldn't be encouraged in young Ron? He's got these two bullies that only want a reaction out of him. If he cries, it'll only encourage them. Any reaction is encouraging to them, but he has to go with anger. It's a survival thing- puff yourself up, make yourself look bigger than you are so the predator messes with you a little less. Look at the pride Ron's showing in his badge. The desire to do well is there. He likes the good feeling that comes with it, but he's been hard-wired since birth that it's better to be "middle of the pack". In later chapters, I know you'll have to point out the way the power makes Ron behave, so I just want to start on the defence now. It's all Ron knows. It's all he's been taught. It's a huge character flaw, but it's what makes him so human. Rowling did develop this in the book, but only accidentally. We're never going to get a good look at Ron's psychology except through these hints because it's, as usual, All About Harry. Ron's flawed, but I hope we remember that he has a reason why he's got those flaws. It doesn't excuse him, but it really explains him. So yeah... that's why I defend Ron.
...
“I’m not Percy,’ he finished defiantly.”
The essayist: Mmmm-hm. Ron feels nervous at the thought of his good fortune inspiring anger in someone and what's his first defence? "I'm not Percy"? Man, the evidence that the Twins' psychological torment has left lasting scars on Ron could not have been more obvious if he'd shielded himself and said "Please don't jinx me, Fred! ... I mean Harry. ... Shit, what'd I say?"
...
“Excellent,” said Ron, with a kind of groan of longing, and he seized the nearest plate of chops and began piling them onto his plate, watched wistfully by Nearly Headless Nick. “What were you saying before the Sorting?” Hermione asked the ghost. “About the hat giving warnings?” “Oh yes,” said Nick, who seemed glad of a reason to turn away from Ron, who was now eating roast potatoes with almost indecent enthusiasm.
The essayist: Ron’s not being very restrained with his eating, is he?
The commenter: I don't know if it's accidental or not, but this is one of those moments that I love, one of the tellings of Ron's home life via his behavior. In this scenario, he's totally a kitten who just got adopted to a house where he's the only cat. He's at a table with food, so his instinct is to eat as fast as he can or his siblings will yoink it. It doesn't help that there are many other people around, encouraging the "get the good stuff fast or you'll have to sate yourself on bread or whatever nobody wants". Ron is so much more human than Harry! How can Harry not be showing any signs of his "horrendous abuse" for eleven years? Well... I guess he sort of does when he buys all that stuff in his first year. And I guess Ron has to go back home every summer where it gets reinforced. But Harry goes back every summer, too... what the hell?
...
“What’s going on?” Ron had appeared in the doorway. His wide eyes traveled from Harry, who was kneeling on his bed with his wand pointing at Seamus, to Seamus, who was standing there with his fists raised. “He’s having a go at my mother!” Seamus yelled. “What?” said Ron. “Harry wouldn’t do that — we met your mother, we liked her. . .” “That’s before she started believing every word the stinking Daily Prophet writes about me!” said Harry at the top of his voice. “Oh,” said Ron, comprehension dawning across his freckled face. “Oh . . . right.” “You know what?” said Seamus heatedly, casting Harry a venomous look. “He’s right, I don’t want to share a dormitory with him anymore, he’s a madman.” “That’s out of order, Seamus,” said Ron, whose ears were starting to glow red, always a danger sign. “Out of order, am I?” shouted Seamus, who in contrast with Ron ‘was turning paler. “You believe all the rubbish he’s come out with about You-Know-Who, do you, you reckon he’s telling the truth?” “Yeah, I do!” said Ron angrily. “Then you’re mad too,” said Seamus in disgust. “Yeah? Well unfortunately for you, pal, I’m also a prefect!” said Ron, jabbing himself in the chest with a finger. “So unless you want detention, watch your mouth!”
The essayist: Note how Ron’s first reaction is to side with Harry.
The commenter: Not surprising because of the best friends thing (some might argue) but I say it's not surprising considering how Hermione and Ron were treating Harry like a ticking time bomb. Survival!
...
“Hello, Harry!” It was Cho Chang and what was more, she was on her own again. This was most unusual: Cho was almost always surrounded by a gang of giggling girls; Harry remembered the agony of trying to get her by herself to ask her to the Yule Ball. “Hi,” said Harry, feeling his face grow hot. At least you’re not covered in Stinksap this time, he told himself. Cho seemed to be thinking along the same lines. “You got that stuff off, then?” “Yeah,” said Harry, trying to grin as though the memory of their last meeting was funny as opposed to mortifying. “So did you . . . er . . . have a good summer?” The moment he had said this he wished he hadn’t: Cedric had been Cho’s boyfriend and the memory of his death must have affected her holiday almost as badly as it had affected Harry’s. . . Something seemed to tauten in her face, but she said, “Oh, it was all right, you know. . .” “Is that a Tornados badge?” Ron demanded suddenly, pointing at the front of Cho’s robes, to which a sky-blue badge emblazoned with a double gold T was pinned. “You don’t support them, do you?” “Yeah, I do,” said Cho. “Have you always supported them, or just since they started winning the league?” said Ron, in what Harry considered an unnecessarily accusatory tone of voice. “I’ve supported them since I was six,” said Cho coolly. “Anyway . . . see you, Harry.” She walked away. Hermione waited until Cho was halfway across the courtyard before rounding on Ron. “You are so tactless!”
The essayist: So Harry meets Cho, makes a complete faux pas and reminds her of her dead boyfriend. Ron quickly steers the conversation away onto something more happy, i.e., Quidditch, before Cho can get too upset. Nevertheless, Ron is apparently the insensitive jerk around here, not Harry.
[If this reminds you of something, then yes, I absolutely took what the essayist was saying and elaborated on it. I confess, I am a dirty thief.]
...
“Well, I suppose he could’ve played better,” Harry muttered, “but it was only the first training session, like you said. . .” Neither Harry nor Ron seemed to make much headway with their homework that night. Harry knew Ron was too preoccupied with how badly he had performed at Quidditch practice and he himself was having difficulty in getting the chant of “Gryffindor are losers” out of his head. [...] And so they worked on while the sky outside the windows became steadily darker; slowly, the crowd in the common room began to thin again. At half-past eleven, Hermione wandered over to them, yawning. “Nearly done?” “No,” said Ron shortly. “Jupiter’s biggest moon is Ganymede, not Callisto,” she said, pointing over Ron’s shoulder at a line in his Astronomy essay, “and it’s Io that’s got the volcanos.” “Thanks,” snarled Ron, scratching out the offending sentences.
The essayist: So Ron’s getting basic facts wrong in his essays.
The commenter: This is going to look so contrived, but I genuinely believe it, and maybe after these reviews, your standards for contrived have dropped enough for me to pass the bar :3 But... he's not putting in any effort. His ego can't take another beating at the moment (even punching bags have limits). Imagine it- after the Quidditch humiliation with his friend the Star Athlete (when he really was trying) he tries to distract himself by doing school work 1. which he isn't very good at anyway, 2. with the Star Athlete of Academics/Slytherin Spectator Crowd best friend Hermione there 3. with Hermione there to set it right anyway (it sounds as if Hermione isn’t so much correcting their essays as writing them herself). If he tries his best at this and then fails at that, Ron probably would start to consider suicide. It's self-preservation at this point to put in zero effort. This kind of fail is literally "I'm not trying because I have given up."
...
She wrenched her bag open; Harry thought she was about to put her books away, but instead she pulled out two misshapen woolly objects, placed them carefully on a table by the fireplace, covered them with a few screwed-up bits of parchment and a broken quill, and stood back to admire the effect. “What in the name of Merlin are you doing?” said Ron, watching her as though fearful for her sanity. “They’re hats for house-elves,” she said briskly, now stuffing her books back into her bag. “I did them over the summer. I’m a really slow knitter without magic, but now I’m back at school I should be able to make lots more.” “You’re leaving out hats for the house-elves?” said Ron slowly. “And you’re covering them up with rubbish first?” “Yes,” said Hermione defiantly, swinging her bag onto her back. “That’s not on,” said Ron angrily. “You’re trying to trick them into picking up the hats. You’re setting them free when they might not want to be free.” “Of course they want to be free!” said Hermione at once, though her face was turning pink. “Don’t you dare touch those hats, Ron!” She left. Ron waited until she had disappeared through the door to the girls’ dormitories, then cleared the rubbish off the woolly hats. They should at least see what they’re picking up,” he said firmly. “Anyway . . .” He rolled up the parchment on which he had written the title of Snape’s essay. “There’s no point trying to finish this now, I can’t do it without Hermione, I haven’t got a clue what you’re supposed to do with moonstones, have you?”
The essayist: This doesn’t seem like a particularly open-minded and enquiring position to take, although I suppose that Hermione’s open-mindedness has always been something of an informed attribute.
The commenter: This trope among fans has got me riled up beyond belief because they use the "Hermione's word is gospel" thing to make unfair assumptions about other characters: Ron's "emotional range of a teaspoon" thing comes to mind, and right after that, Lavender supposedly being silly about believing Trelawney about her dead pet (Hermione never considered that maybe the thing Lavender was dreading was bad news from home or bad news about her pet). Regarding house elves: This is one case where the fans ought to have seen that Hermione was being very thoughtless as far as strategy. Ron has lived all his life up until this point thinking that there was no problem with house elves and she literally expects to be able to just tell him "it's wrong" and he's supposed to change instantly? Talk about your cultural insensitivity. In this case, maybe Ron knows better than you do, Hermione? You didn't even know about house elves until you were at least twelve (but more likely, she didn't know until this year). She must understand the concept of "he doesn't know it's wrong". That was how she defended Crookshanks when he was chasing Scabbers. ... Hey, Hermione thinks Ron's smarter than her cat. That's something, I guess.
...
The commenter: Competition is seriously the worst thing in the world for Ron. He's got wa-a-ay too much baggage. Do well so they'll love you. Do well so they'll notice you. If they notice you, you'll get praised. And tormented by Fred and George. Then if you fuck up, you'll have let everyone down. My brothers never let anyone down. That's the standard. Oh God, I can't live up to that. Which do I want to chose- being ignored or scorned? I could do well. Then I'll be good enough to be called "just like them"! JFC, when's it ever going to be "Good like Ron"? Chess. Literally everyone else has one thing they shine in, even Neville with his Botany and Dean with his art (and... and I'm going to ignore the fact that Hermione and Luna are the only two I can think of with non-appearance based special stuff... someone please help me out? I guess Tonks' doesn't really count as a shallow one because it makes her a master of disguise...)
...
HALF-BLOOD PRINCE
...
Ron gagged on a large piece of kipper. Hermione spared him one look of disdain before turning back to Harry.
The essayist: “Hermione spared [Ron] one look of disdain before turning back to Harry” pretty much sums up her relationships within the trio. It’s no wonder Ron’s so insecure and keeps worrying that she really fancies Harry.
...
“And you’ve been through all that persecution from the Ministry when they were trying to make out you were unstable and a liar. You can still see the marks on the back of your hand where that evil woman made you write with your own blood, but you stuck to your story anyway...” “You can still see where those brains got hold of me in the Ministry, look,” said Ron, shaking back his sleeves. “And it doesn’t hurt that you’ve grown about a foot over the summer either,” Hermione finished, ignoring Ron. “I’m tall,” said Ron inconsequentially.
The essayist: Ron’s so adorably pathetic here, the way he’s obviously feeling inferior to Harry and being ignored by his so-called friends. *hugs Ron*
...
When they left the Gryffindor table five minutes later to head down to the Quidditch pitch, they passed Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil. Remembering what Hermione had said about the Patil twins’ parents wanting them to leave Hogwarts, Harry was unsurprised to see that the two best friends were whispering together, looking distressed. What did surprise him was that when Ron drew level with them, Parvati suddenly nudged Lavender, who looked around and gave Ron a wide smile. Ron blinked at her, then returned the smile uncertainly. His walk instantly became something more like a strut. Harry resisted the temptation to laugh, remembering that Ron had refrained from doing so after Malfoy had broken Harry’s nose; Hermione, however, looked cold and distant all the way down to the stadium through the cool, misty drizzle, and departed to find a place in the stands without wishing Ron good luck.
The essayist: Hermione keeps belittling Ron and doing him down, and reacts quite strongly when he even so much hints at losing interest in her and showing attention to another woman. Can we say “abusive relationship”, anybody?
...
“Harry! Ginny!” Hermione was hurrying toward them, very pink-faced and wearing a cloak, hat, and gloves. “I got back a couple of hours ago, I've just been down to visit Hagrid and Buck--I mean Witherwings,” she said breathlessly. “Did you have a good Christmas?” “Yeah,” said Ron at once, “pretty eventful, Rufus Scrim—” “I've got something for you, Harry,” said Hermione, neither looking at Ron nor giving any sign that she had heard him. “Oh, hang on--password. Abstinence.”
The essayist: Wow, Hermione’s just being so childish here, ignoring Ron when he’s talking directly to her. Incidentally, Ron’s speaking to her like a normal friend, it’s Hermione who’s doing the blanking. Still, I’m sure this argument is all Ron’s fault for daring to go out with another girl. Hermione is totally blameless.
[Just in case: the essayist is being sarcastic, they’re pointing out the double standard of the HP fandom blaming Hermione’s immature behaviour on Ron.]
...
DEATHLY HALLOWS
...
“I think you’re right,” she told him. “It’s just a morality tale, it’s obvious which gift is best, which one you’d choose—” The three of them spoke at the same time; Hermione said, “the Cloak,” Ron said, “the wand,” and Harry said, “the stone.” They looked at each other, half surprised, half amused. “You’re supposed to say the Cloak,” Ron told Hermione, “but you wouldn’t need to be invisible if you had the wand. An unbeatable wand, Hermione, come on!” “We’ve already got an Invisibility Cloak,” said Harry. “And it’s helped us rather a lot, in case you hadn’t noticed!” said Hermione. “Whereas the wand would be bound to attract trouble—” “Only if you shouted about it,” argued Ron. “Only if you were prat enough to go dancing around, waving it over your head, and singing, ‘I’ve got an unbeatable wand, come and have a go if you think you’re good enough.’ As long as you kept your trap shut—” “Yes, but could you keep your trap shut?” said Hermione, looking skeptical. “You know, the only true thing he said to us was that there have been stories about extra-powerful wands for hundreds of years.” “There have?” asked Harry. Hermione looked exasperated: the expression was so endearingly familiar that Harry and Ron grinned at each other.
The commenter (?): Actually, I thought that Ron was proving the errors in the story. Because he’s right. The eldest brother didn’t die because the Elder Wand had corrupted him (like the One Ring). He died because he was an idiot. He died because he randomly decided to start blabbing about his new toy.
“You talk about wands like they’ve got feelings,” said Harry, “like they canthink for themselves.” “The wand chooses the wizard,” said Ollivander. “That much has always been clear to those of us who have studied wandlore.” “A person can still use a wand that hasn’t chosen them, though?” asked Harry. “Oh yes, if you are any wizard at all you will be able to channel your magic through almost any instrument. The best results, however, must always come where there is the strongest affinity between wizard and wand. These connections are complex. An initial attraction, and then a mutual quest for experience, the wand learning from the wizard, the wizard from the wand.”
The essayist: Harry’s wand has to think for and protect him because he’s too stupid and incompetent to think for and protect himself! Ollivander’s the expert, and he just admitted it. He said any halfway decent wizard can perform magic with almost any wand. The reason Harry could only work with the holly wand is because of the phoenix feather core it shares with Voldemort’s wand. That is, it wasn’t Harry doing the magic with Harry’s wand! It was the Voldemort soul piece! Once Harry was forced to use wands that didn’t have that core, the soul piece couldn’t do the work for Harry any more. He was forced to rely on his own magical powers and competence, which are clearly minimal. This is proven by his inability to do effective magic with any other wand. It’s also proven by an incident from Philosopher’s Stone. Remember when Harry was being chased by bullies and inexplicably found himself on top of the shed roof? That was the soul piece allowing him to fly like Voldy. Lily could slow her descent from a height, as if she had an invisible parachute, but that is not the same as flying, and we have no evidence she could fly. Only Voldemort and Snape fly without assistance! The evidence is overwhelming that I am right. How many spells can Harry do effectively? Expelliarmus, Expecto Patronum, Protego--that’s it. Even as a young adult, he is incapable of doing the basic healing or cleaning spells a young child should have down pat before going to Hogwarts. Of course, we’re told the Patronus spell is difficult and advanced, but who told us that? Remus Lupin, friend of Harry’s father, sycophant, and notorious liar, particularly when it comes to flattering Harry. Recall Lupin also said Snape didn’t like James because Snape was envious of Potter Sr.’s Quidditch prowess, and we know that was a lie. Given this evidence, anything Lupin says that cannot be confirmed by an independent source, especially regarding the Potters, should be dismissed out of hand. True, Hermione has trouble with the Patronus spell, and she’s super-competent. Doesn’t that prove it’s a very difficult spell? Not at all. To take an example from a different field, Beethoven was a virtuoso organist, the greatest pianist of his day, one of the greatest pianists in history, and probably the greatest improvisational musician ever. But he was only a decent violinist. Everybody has areas of weakness, no matter how good they are overall. In addition, Hermione is very gullible where authority figures are concerned. If a teacher tells her, “The Patronus is a very difficult, advanced spell that many people can’t ever master,” she’ll believe that, which may create a self-fulfilling prophecy. A couple of years ago, another DTCL member and I facetiously suggested Harry was less intelligent than his wand. We didn’t know we were right. It rarely happens, but this is an occasion when I would have preferred to be wrong.
...
If only there was a way of getting a better wand... And desire for the Elder Wand, the Deathstick, unbeatable, invincible, swal-lowed him once more... They packed up the tent next morning and moved on through a dreary shower of rain. The downpour pursued them to the coast, where they pitched the tent that night, and persisted through the whole week, through sodden landscapes that Harry found bleak and depressing. He could think only of the Deathly Hallows. It was as though a flame had been lit inside him that nothing, not Hermione’s flat disbelief nor Ron’s persistent doubts, could extinguish. And yet the fiercer the longing for the Hallows burned inside him, the less joyful it made him. He blamed Ron and Hermione: Their determined indifference was as bad as the relentless rain for dampening his spirits, but neither could erode his certainty, which remained absolute. Harry’s belief in and longing for the Hallows consumed him so much that he felt isolated from the other two and their obsession with the Horcruxes. [...] As the weeks crept on, Harry could not help but notice, even through his new self-absorption, that Ron seemed to be taking charge. Perhaps because he was determined to make up for having walked out on them, perhaps because Harry’s descent into listlessness galvanized his dormant leadership qualities, Ron was the one now encouraging and exhorting the other two into action. [...] But not until March did luck favor Ron at last.
The essayist: MARCH! That’s right, ladies and gentlemen. The first fifteen pages of this chapter cover three months, and during that entire time, Harry Potter does nothing, nothing, but sit on his ass fantasizing about the Elder Wand and trying to connect with his Voldie-soul mate. Oh, wait. He also tries to open the snitch so he can get the stone out of it. (Nothing gay about that, either.) I wish he’d succeed in that, too. Maybe he’d swallow the stone, and it would end up in his scrotum. He sure needs something that works down there. Harry doesn’t have the right to bail out on his society like this. He can’t have it both ways. He can’t have the adulation that goes with being Mr. Boy-Who-Lived-Chosen-One-Wizarding-World-Savior and abdicate the responsibilities that go along with those titles and that adulation. Look at what happens in this chapter: Harry becomes obsessed with finding and uniting the Hallows, so much so that he withdraws from his friends, bails out on the job his idol Dumbledore gave him, and spends all his time brooding and trying to connect with the Dull Lord. In other words, he acts clinically depressed. Ron and Hermione were exposed to the same information Harry was, but they didn’t become obsessed/depressed. Ron was mildly interested in the Super-Wand, but not enough to distract him from the Horcrux hunt. Hermione dismissed the whole DH story as nonsense and continued following Dumbestbore’s orders. So why weren’t they tempted?
...
The essayist: Harry opens the locket using Parseltongue--interesting that this never occurred to him before now--and two ghostly figures emerge. They’re Voldie-versions of Harry and Hermione, and they articulate Ron’s worst fears: “Least loved, always, by the mother who craved a daughter...Least loved, now, by the girl who prefers your friend...Second best, always, eternally overshadowed...” I’ll say it again: When you’re right, you’re right. The evidence is overwhelming that Molly Weasley treated Ron the worst of all her children. And if Rowling doesn’t want us to ship HP/HG, she needs to quit throwing them together and making them leaders, with Ron either in the background or absent entirely. JKR obviously wants us to automatically dismiss certain statements just because they’re made by “bad guys” such as Voldemort and Rita Skeeter. There are two problems with this: (1) The “lies” make perfect sense, far more sense than what we’re supposed to believe. (2) Even pathological liars sometimes tell the truth, typically when it won’t hurt their own interests to do so. For those of us who live in what cartoonist Garry Trudeau calls “the reality-based community,” the evidence is what matters, not what we’re told by authority figures. Those of us in the higher stages of spiritual development are funny that way.
...
The essayist: Well, whose fault is that, Ms. Rowling? You’re the one who’s spent the last four books making Ron dumber and dumber, depriving him of any meaningful activity, while you shoved Harry and Hermione into increasingly dominant roles.
The commenter: Are we supposed to look down on Ron now so that we can condemn him for leaving Harry and Hermione? Because if so, then that’s just unfair. Every time Ron tries to come up with an idea, Hermione criticizes him or shoots him down. And the twins have done a fine job of intimidating Ron into remaining mediocre and modest so that he doesn’t remind them of Percy, so what is he supposed to do? How is he supposed to come up with ideas when he’s surrounded by people who basically tell him to shut up and sit down?
The essayist: Just then, Hermione comes out of the tent with cups of tea, with tears running down her face and looking terrified her “friend” is going to curse her with her own wand.
The commenter: So, Hermione will snarl at Ron all day long, but cower in fear when Harry gets mad. Is she projecting herself onto Harry and assuming that just because *she’s* quick to hex people who anger her (Ron, Marietta, etc.), Harry will do the same to her?
The essayist: The evidence is overwhelming that Molly Weasley treated Ron the worst of all her children.
The commenter: And blatantly showed favoritism to Harry while snarling at Ron in the same breath. Of course, Horcrux!Tom doesn’t bring that up, because JKR would have to admit that there might be something wrong with Molly favoring Harry the way she does. The essayist: Hermione acts so crazy Harry has to put a protection charm between her and Ron.
The commenter: Yeah…sorry, it’s not “slapstick” anymore when somebody actually has to stop her from hitting Ron. When Harry feels that the situation is dangerous enough that his intervention is necessary. That’s not funny. That’s a true-crime episode. What gets me is that Hermione's tantrum lasts for days. It goes on for several pages into the next chapter. She doesn't start acting normal again until she comes up with the idea of visiting Xeno Lovegood. The essayist: Hermione tells Ron she still hasn’t ruled out attacking him with birds again.
The commenter: *flatly* So, all of the fans who cooed about how “great” it was for Hermione to show “girl power” by sending Ron to the hospital wing in HBP or breezily dismissed the scene as just tired teenage melodrama? Can put a sock in it. Hermione has clearly learned nothing, JKR clearly feels that that scene was funny, and at no point are we supposed to think that Hermione is an abuser. Even though, if the genders were reversed, fans would be calling for Ron’s head on a platter if he dared lay a finger on Hermione. No. This isn’t funny. This isn’t charming. Hermione hurt Ron so badly in HBP that he had to go to the hospital wing. And she tried to repeat the damage she caused here. Is she going to attack him with birds again after they get married? Is she going to do it in front of their children? Will it be “cute” and “funny” then? No, if a man is an abusive monster for losing his temper and trying to hurt his girlfriend, then Hermione is an abusive monster for losing her temper and trying to hurt her boyfriend. Not only did Hermione land Ron in the infirmary with the first attack, but she wants to do it again at a time when they are on the run. She will NOT be able to take an injured Ron to Hogwarts infirmary, nor to St. Mungos. In other words - she intends for him to remain injured and stick with them while camping, or else he must apparate away while injured, risking another splinching so he could be healed.
...
The essayist: Ron and Harry go back to the tent, and Harry fades into the background so as not to interfere with the lovers’ reunion. That’s a mistake. After Harry wakes Hermione, she shows her delight at Ron’s return by--attacking him? She punches him over a dozen times while yelling at him and screaming for her wand from Harry. Remember last chapter, when I talked about how immature Hermione is? Here’s your proof.
[The essayist quotes an article that I haven’t been able to find, but paraphrased: it speaks of a father who came to pick up his 4 y/o daughter from daycare, a little later than usual, and the daughter reacted by punching and hitting her father, upset at his being late. Additional read: “The parents must know that physical aggression is a common yet natural problem faced by toddlers.”]
The essayist: So there you have it: Hermione Granger, know-it-all supergirl, is so immature she acts like a preschool child when the boyfriend she’s been missing finally returns. I’m not suggesting she has a father-daughter relationship with Ron; this kind of anger is found in other relationships, too. What I am saying is that her way of expressing her anger is appropriate for a very young child. While adults may certainly feel this kind of anger and desire to hit when reunited with a loved one under similar circumstances, they don’t act it out. That restraint is what separates adults from children. Hermione acts so crazy Harry has to put a protection charm between her and Ron. I frankly found her behavior so out of control as to suggest mental instability. She engages in two full pages of histrionics before throwing herself into a chair, sitting so tensely I’m surprised the circulation isn’t cut off to her arms and legs. She remains in a bratty snit until the end of the chapter, which is another six pages. Hermione is still pouting the next morning. I’m wondering if her real problem is not that Ron left, but that she didn’t. Is she angry at him because he had the guts to admit they were blowing it and take a time out, while she just kept trailing along after Harry like a lost house elf? I think she’s definitely mad because she’s always controlled Ron and their relationship. How dare he assert his independence of her! Who does he think he is? Her equal? In an AU, maybe. This is called the Potterverse after all, not the Ronverse. Hermione’s having a bad month. First Ron runs out on them; then she saves Harry’s life, but he’s an ungrateful jerk about it; then Harry asserts his independence; then Ron comes back but doesn’t grovel sufficiently for her taste. All this mistreatment is going to give her the idea she’s just a normal character and not an Author’s Darling. While Ron was gone, he was captured by bad guys called Snatchers, who are bounty hunters for Voldemort. In getting away, he got a spare wand, which he gives to Harry. Of course, it doesn’t work as well as Harry’s “real” wand, so Harry’s still in a snit about that, and with Hermione in a snit, too, they’re a cheerful bunch. Honestly, I don’t know why Ron puts up with these two. The Hs are so spoiled and self-centered, they deserve each other, but I don’t think this is what HP/HG shippers mean when they proclaim the two as an OTP. Sane, normal Ron doesn’t deserve either one of them. Run, Ron! Run while you still can!
...
The essayist: As an interesting aside, ròn is the Celtic word for seal. In Druid lore, seals represent love, longing, and dilemma. No more appropriate totem animal could be imagined for this boy whose sense of selfhood is undermined by his longing for love from a rejecting mother and inadequate father, and who, like the selchie wives of folklore, is faced with the impossible choice of being who he truly is and being rejected, or denying the best part of himself to gain love. Ron’s intelligence and independence threaten his insecure wife (and best friend), just as the selchie’s identity as a seal-woman threatens her human husband; Ron imprisons himself by hiding who he is so the Hs can feel smart and in charge, just as the selchie’s human husband imprisons his wife by hiding her sealskin in a trunk.

Hi can i have a hcs of being the older sister of vivi killer drake and katakuri who is nice and compasionate please-Sarah
I'm sorry this took... embarrassingly long to complete. And I'm not gonna lie, it was rather difficult for me to come up with good headcanons for this request. I'm really not proud of this one, but... hopefully you'll like it at least a bit, dear ^^'
Having a kind older sister headcanon
Nefeltari Vivi
Tumblr media
Vivi absolutely adores and looks up to you!
secretly, she wants to grow up to be just as much of an amazing and kind person as you are
however she can also be a bit of a brat and a little rebel from time to time; especially in her younger years she would often switch between wanting to be with you and wanting to be left alone in a matter of seconds
sometimes, when she's in an especially mischievious mood, she even goes as far as to hide from you on the palace grounds all day long
seeing how your mother died when you and your little sister were still pretty young, your dad Cobra was initially the one who tried to take on both parental roles and raise you to the best of his abilities; but since he's also the King of Alabasta and has a lot of responsibilities to take care of, it didn't quite work out in the long run. Thus you jumped in for him, taking on both a sisterly as well as a motherly role for Vivi as she was growing up
still, Cobra is extremely protective of his two girls and therefore you're rarely allowed to leave his sight or the palace. But that ain't stopping you from occasionally sneaking out in secret, and once Vivi is old enough to accompany you, you bring her along. Those little 'trips' later on fueled her desire to sneak out on her own and make friends with the other children in Alabasta
every evening, when it's time for bed, she sits down with you and proudly tells you about the things she did that day while you brush through her hair
although she's eager to share most of her hobbies and adventures with you, the one thing that Vivi is extremely cautious about is letting you meet her friends. Grown people aren't allowed in their club, so when she finally decides to introduce you to Koza and the rest, you have to promise not to tell anyone
you're the one person Vivi can confide in 100% and she knows that her secrets are always safe with you- even from Papa Cobra
so it's only natural that you were also the first person she told about her plans to infiltrate Baroque Works
and while Vivi is away on her secret mission, you make sure to help your little sis from the inside by delivering informations about the current situation in Alabasta. All while keeping up the facade of the good older princess who believes that Sir Crocodile is a hero, of course
when she finally comes back home with Luffy and the Strawhats, you do everything in your power to assist them in their plan to get the country back from the Warlord. With an all-out civil war right around the corner Vivi especially needs you as emotional support and counts on your wisdom to help with her decisions. You're her big sister after all, and if there's anyone she needs to have by her side while she's facing all of the coming chaos, it's you.
Killer
Tumblr media
you know those rebellious teenagers that are always like "Moooom, don't tell me what to do!!!!"? That's Killer, but in little brother form
he definitely doesn't like being coddled or looked after. Yes, he gets into fights and danger regularly, but it's normal. He doesn't need you to chew him out for it every time
despite that, he really really does love you though. Hence why he's occasionaly pushing you away- as pirate he's living a dangerous life, and he doesn't want his nice and sweet big sister to get caught up in it
his way of showing apprecation for you has always been a bit unusual, even back when he was young. One time, when you were still living together, Killer tried to surprise you by cooking your favorite food for your birthday; but he ended up setting your house on fire instead, forcing you to move again
when you were still children you would occasionally babysit your little brother as well as his best bud Kid, and things often got out of control when you three were together
especially the little redhead seemed to be in a rather provocative mood whenever you were around. Sometimes Kid would declare that you'll be his woman one day, which always ticked off Killer and caused him to start fights with his friend
even to this day, Killer still tries to keep you away from Kid. He adores his friend and captain, but also really doesn't want him to try and get flirty with you... again. That's just all kinds of wrong
it's not just Kid though, no one else in the crew is allowed to comment on your looks/attricteveness/whatever either, or they'll have to deal with a pretty mad Killer
nowadays he's a lot more relaxed when it comes to you and your presence around the crew though. From time to time he still berates or tells you that you are too friendly for your own good, but deep down he's appreciative of your caring nature and how you always treated him with kindness
one thing that never really changed is Killer's desire to cook by your side and show off all the things he learned within the past few years
you're the only person he feels the need to impress and who's criticism actually matters to him even if he accepts it with a scoff
X Drake
Tumblr media
although he's the younger sibling, Drake is actually the protective one. Because of your kind nature he's always afraid that someone might try to use you
he's pretty clingy as a kid, and it honestly doesn't change much as he's getting older
you were the one that took care of him after your father died, so naturally he's always been looking at you for guidance and comfort from a young age on
as a result you're the only person that can claim to know Drake 100%. He can't keep secrets from you either, sometimes it's even as if you know him better than he does
although he knows he can always come to you with his problems and secrets, Drake is pretty hesitant to do so. Scared that you might get dragged into his dangerous affairs, he heavy-hearted decides that it's for the best to keep you in the dark about his life as double-agent
although he feels a bit guilty to keep you in the dark about his affiliations, it does have some perks as well. Thanks to his job he was able to secure you a nice house in a calm (and most importantly, protected) living area that's close to his marine base
you could say it's his way of 'repaying' you for taking care of him for so long. Drake loves you and can't help but feel as if he's in your debt
as long as his job allows it he makes sure to visits you at least once or twice a month to make sure that you're doing good
during those visits he often thinks back to what your life used to be like when you were kids, and the mood quickly turns sober as he remembers his abusive father. That's usually when it's time for you to step in and change the topic
just ask Drake about his crushes or if there is a woman he's got his eyes on and he'll turn all sorts of red again lol
huh, maybe there is someone he's interested in. But he can't tell you because you'd probably just offer to help him win her over, which is bound to end in disaster...
instead of talking about his preferences when it comes to women he'd rather tell you about the new limited edition Germa action figure he managed to get his hands on! And boom- just like that, your little bro is in a better mood again
can you imagine how excited Drake would be to tell you about his encounter with Stealth Black tho...? You'd probably have to calm him down during the call so he won't hyperventilate lmao
Charlotte Katakuri
Tumblr media
much like Killer, Katakuri also doesn't like being coddled
back when you were young and still sailing around with the family, it was usually your and Perospero's unofficial job to look after the younger siblings while Big Mom was doing... y'know, pirate stuff
most of the kids were doing fine under your watch, but Katakuri always had a strong tendency to get in trouble. You would often scold him for starting fights with others and tell him that he shouldn't pay any mind to whatever insults they throw at him; unfortunately though he hardly ever listened
and after the incident with Brûlée, he completely isolated himself from everyone- including you. He also felt a tinge of guilt for not listening to your advice, since it might have kept his sister from getting hurt
it takes years, almost decades until Katakuri feels ready to open up again- and if it wasn't for how compassionate you were and that you never judged or pressured him, it might have taken even longer
eventually he tries to mend your relationship by inviting you to one of his meriendas, where you finally get the chance to talk about everything
from there on out you two slowly get reacquainted with one another and become friends again
and this time, he actually listens to your advice and takes it to heart
Katakuri still keeps up the appearance of the strong and cold older brother around the other siblings, but when he's with you he's more relaxed and sometimes even okay with talking about his pent-up frustration
whenever he returns from a mission he checks in with Mama first (that's obligatory) and then gets some donuts, pays you a visit to see how you've been holding up during the days he was gone, and explains what he's been up to
he's always looking out for you and whenever Mama suggests that it's time for you to marry some crazy psycho for the sake of an alliance, Katakuri would do everything in his powers to help you convince her that it was a bad idea
frankly Katakuri respects you more than his own mother and is very glad to have someone who doesn't put him on a pedestral or holds him to some insanely high standards. It makes him feel a bit more... human.

another fic i want to read
Okay, but what if both Dabi and Hawks were hit with a de-aging quirk and it was permanent? Add in some adoptive Erasermic and the Todoroki family reuniting and taking down Endeavor and the Hero Commission. And you're basically hitting so many of my preferred tropes.
We need more permanent de-aging fics.
Okay. It could go like this.
Dabi and Hawks have a new, still raw relationship and are meeting up when there is a cry for help. Hawks rushes to the scene because he can't ignore that and Dabi trails after Hawks, understanding Hawks has to be a hero. (Dabi knows Hawks is a traitor; Hawks doesn't know Dabi knows).
It is a robbery. A teen and a child. Hawks saves the day, but the kid has been getting more and more agitated and scared. The woman tries to calm him, but it doesn't work. There's a flash of light.
When everyone comes to, they're 11 years younger. The woman is now 7. Hawks is 11. Dabi is 13.
"Not again," the young girl moans.
The child is the same age as before and cries "sorry" over and over again.
"What happened?" Hawks demands while Dabi looks down at his (mostly) unscarred arms and quietly freaks out.
The girl explains--her son's quirk changes people's ages. Sometimes he goes backwards. Sometimes forwards, though never past someone's birth age. Right now, he gets set off when he's scared and anxious. The worst part is that your memories fade or emerge to match your age, though strong emotions tend to stick. She keeps a notebook on hand, but she's never been this young before.
They need to get to authorities fast.
Dabi refuses, even after Hawks points out that this is the best guise he's ever had and there's no way they're going to arrest him. And Dabi just laughs because that isn't what he's worried about. But Hawks grabs his wrist and pleads to not be left alone like this. Dabi is still refusing when Eraserhead appears, having heard the small explosion of the boy's quirk and come to investigate.
Hawks explains the situation and how their memories will fade. The girl chimes in that it usually takes about a day.
"And your friend?"
Hawks hesitates. He can't introduce Dabi as Dabi. Dabi sighs and says, "Touya."
They go to the station together. Dabi can't get away now. The girl calls her parents and explains what has happened. Her husband is out of the picture, having been scared off by his son's quirk.
Hawks doesn't have any family to call. Dabi says he doesn't either. So Aizawa offers to take them home for the night.
(I'm working with the headcanon of erasermic and them being licensed foster parents for emergency situations much like this one).
They accept. Well, Hawks accepts. Dabi is still ready to run. He survived the streets once. He can do it again. Aizawa notices this in him and keeps an especially close eye.
When they reach the apartment and Yamada is there and ready for them, Dabi gives in. His memory is going to fade and he cannot risk getting sent back to his father, so he pulls Aizawa back and explains that his full name is Todoroki Touya and that his father is an abusive asshole. And he's like, "I know you can't do anything against him, but don't let me get taken back to his house."
Then morning comes and Hawks and Touya (because he is Touya still at 13) are truly their ages. The romantic feelings are still there, but they've transformed to first crush sort of feelings. Lots of blushing.
Two kids waking up in a strange place. Aizawa and Yamada explain that it was a quirk and they've been de-aged. Hawks wants to make extra sure that he doesn't have to go back to the facility, which raises Aizawa's and Yamada's hackles, because what? Touya is quieter and asks if he'll be sent back to his father. Aizawa says that if what Touya said about his training is true, no, he will not.
Aizawa calls Shouto and asks him to be ready to be taken to Aizawa's apartment. Shouto is confused, but agrees.
He gets to the apartment. First he's surprised to see Present Mic. Then he sees Touya and all air is just gone. Because that is his brother. Alive. Just like his photo.
Aizawa explains the quirk (which means Touya has been alive this whole time; why did he never contact them?!?!) and says that Touya had shared some sensitive information about Endeavor that makes Aizawa think it may not be best place to send Touya. Shouto immediately agrees that they absolutely should not let Endeavor have Touya. And he's willing to share all the reasons why. It was easy to not tell people when it was just him, but now his brother is on the line and he can't let him get hurt again. He asks if he can call Fuyumi and Natsuo.
Meanwhile, Yamada has been coaxing Hawks' story from him and becoming increasingly incensed. Hawks quietly asks if he's allowed to go by Keigo anymore or if that is still against the rules. Yamada immediately calls him Keigo and promises to tell everyone else to do the same.
Naturally the Hero Commission wants Hawks back once they learn what has happened to him. This is a chance to raise him even better than before, to train out his less desirable traits more cleanly. Endeavor wants Touya as well, because this is a chance to undo once of his greatest regrets.
Aizawa and Yamada see two traumatized, abused boys and say, "No."
It should all go to trial, but the Hero Commission pulls out at the last minute. They'd rather sacrifice Hawks than risk their reputation. Endeavor's case does go to trial, however, and all of his past sins are brought out on display. He is stripped of his rank and loses custody of Shouto.
Fuyumi ends up taking custody of Shouto and Touya. (When she realizes her father is why she lost her brother, she is far less forgiving...Dabi shared a lot with Aizawa before he forgot).
Aizawa and Yamada keep Keigo.
And then there'd be a series of fluffy one-shots of them growing up again and those first crush butterflies maturing into love.

Love is love is love...
Snippets of Regulus, Narcissa, Sirius, and Andromeda's love life.
What does it take to make a love forbidden?
Someone you can’t have, usually. Whether that means they are already in a relationship, or family doesn’t approve. Well, for the children of House Black; it is the second option. Throughout history and many generations, they have matured faster than those around them. Each family member had someone to marry by the time they were born. Although, most of these children found love elsewhere and were forced to make a choice.
Alphard Black was the second known to run away from family rules because they had not accepted him for whom he loved. Cyfrin Black was the first; he discovered werewolves and fell in love with one, making a family and home with him.
Andromeda Black also ran away; the first female to do so, third Black to run from rules. It irritated Walburga Black to see her family going against the rules - especially so that it reminded her of her brother.
You would never know how terrifying Andromeda Violet Black can be until you meet her. They raised her on pure-blood rules, anger, and dark magic, following her two eldest sisters who dabbled in Death Eater ways. She could have a few tricks up her sleeve. Especially with two mischievous younger brothers.
She was a hat stall. The Sorting Hat had tried to put her into Hufflepuff but eventually landed on Slytherin for her. Andromeda stood from the stool tall and proud like her family taught. Upon sitting with her elder sisters who were in year three, Bellatrix leaned over and whispered in her ear.
“Four years with us, dear sister. I hope you follow us, ‘tis the only way to win over mother and father.”
Andromeda had then rolled her brown eyes. Surely at eleven there was not much you could do in a family of darkness except become the brighter, happier one? As Andromeda grew up, she rebelled against them. Instead of wearing black and green, she would wear earth tones; browns, greens, and oranges throwing in a bit of pink and blue here and there.
Andromeda, like her siblings, grew up lonely. Her mother; Druella Black, passed away when she was young. People said she passed during child-birth but she was there when her sisters were born. At three years of age, Andie watched her father mix a green sort of potion into her mother’s medicine. She wondered why he would even consider doing so. Later, she found out he did it so he could have power over her and her sisters - especially since he wasn’t gifted an heir (Walburga eventually took custody of them when she realized he was trying to get one from his daughters like they used to do in years past.)
At eleven years of age, Andromeda ran away to Alphard’s apartment. He hid her for three years until Walburga came pounding at his door; dragging Andromeda back home. At fifteen years of age, she noticed Edward Tonks (or Ted as he preferred). She would sneak off with him often, in hopes and fear to not get caught. Though at sixteen she had been and she ran away with him; burned off the tapestry, becoming a blood-traitor. She graduated at eighteen, married Edward, and had Nymphadora Tonks at twenty-three.
***
We all know they betrothed Narcissa to Lucius Malfoy, what you don’t know is that she was also interested in Severus Snape. She had flings with Lily Evans, dated a few girls in school; including Alice Fortescue. Like her elder sister Bellatrix, she kept her last name and slept in different rooms as her husband/fiance/boyfriend. It infuriated Lucius but he would respect her. (the only thing different was that she hyphenated it to Black-Malfoy)
Narcissa Druella Black was not a Death Eater like most believe, she did however have the Dark Mark that she was born with. It appeared on her left arm at eleven years of age. She kept it hidden behind long sleeves and arm sleeves. No one could tell which side she was on (in which she learned from Snape). She may have learned the ways of Death Eaters and Dark Arts from the time she could talk, but she may never have accepted that path completely.
Narcissa and her sisters did not have a good upbringing. Though being the youngest daughter, she had always been a powerful person mentally, physically, and magically which was an important thing to be when being a member of the House of Black or your partner spent most of his life in Azkaban.
Narcissa was the middle half of her sisters; black and white, never fully good but never fully bad either. She was a protector, a dreamer, a fighter. A mother, an aunt, and a lover. She not only raised her own son and daughters... but she raised Bellatrix's daughters, helped Andromeda with her daughter, helped/took in Remus, Sirius, James, Regulus, and Lily's kids when they passed.
She raised her son; Draco Malfoy, with great intentions and did her best to give him a better upbringing than she had. It was difficult to do so with Lucius Malfoy as a father. That is where Severus Snape stepped up and lent a hand to be a father figure for Draco. He protected him with all that he could. But was unfortunately too late in stopping him from inhibiting the Dark Mark like his parents. Lily Evans was a third parental figure with rights to him.
Narcissa screamed at Lucius the same words she had screamed at Bellatrix: “He’s just a boy!”
She may have come off as overprotective but she knew if Draco went down that path, he would never be the same little boy she had spun in circles in the ballroom late at night when he couldn’t sleep. She would stay up at all hours of the day just to see him happy.
It broke her heart when the smiles stopped. All she wanted was her baby to smile. Lily got him to smile sometimes, but it was never enough. It would never be enough for Narcissa.
Never enough love, hugs, attention, or money could ever repair Narcissa from the damage her family had caused on her and her son.
***
Sirius Orion Black. The family troublemaker, rule-breaker, and rebel. A lion in a pit of snakes. If anyone were to act like Alphard and drive Walburga even further up the wall - it would be her own son. She had never expected to see what it was like to raise Alphard all over again, but Sirius did just that. He had put up a fight since he was born.
At eleven years of age, Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor and became the second blood-traitor. His father hated him from then on and would abuse him with the unforgivable curses. They told him he was no longer a suitable heir, and it fell to his youngest brother; Regulus Black. Though Sirius could see who Regulus truly was even if he was too afraid to find it within himself. Sirius understood that; their family was terrifying. Only in things for money, power, and keeping the name of Black pure. Though incest was the farthest thing from pure.
Sirius also noted at eleven years of age that he was a few steps ahead of his dorm-mates in puberty and interests. Within two months of him being at Hogwarts, he had kissed a girl two years older than him and was already trying to figure out the two girls his family had chosen for him to marry when they were of age. Kissing and flirting with girls made him sick. Sirius soon realised that he wanted one of his best friends.
He realised his feelings were getting stronger when his friends came back after Summer Break in 93’ and Remus’ voice was deeper, his face was sharper, and he had grown a few inches. Sirius could never act right around him anymore. He noticed little things about Remus he hadn’t before, his quirks became cute, changing in front of him got awkward, and he got flustered seeing him fresh out of a shower. It was hard to tell what Remus was feeling since he was always blushing.
He was thirteen when he first kissed Remus. They were alone one day talking about crushes and things when Sirius looked into Remus’ amber eyes and whispered; “You.” Remus was blushing hard and smiling randomly the rest of the day but either of them would deny it whenever Peter or James asked what was going on.
Sirius was sixteen when he ran away to the Potters because his parents found out he was gay and dating a half-blood. He couldn’t even fathom what they would do if they found out that his boyfriend was a werewolf. He would occasionally go back home just because of Regulus.
He would never forget what his father uttered to him just before he grabbed Regulus’ hand and ran with him out of their father’s office before anything worse could happen. ‘You disobeyed the rules! You are to keep the line pure, marry a woman and raise perfect heirs!’ It would never happen. And he even said it out loud; ‘That would be very unlikely.’ He closed his eyes to take a deep breath when he remembered what had happened next.
His world flipped upside down a few times; being betrayed by one of his best friends, living through a war, finding out he was pregnant at seventeen, and marrying the love of his life at nineteen. Although, when he had held his little girl (Omega metamorphagus/trans Veela) he thought everything would be alright.
Until it wasn’t and the Aurors threw him into Azkaban at twenty-two. He lost his family, his husband, his son and daughter, his friends, his lovers, and his brothers. (Remus rescued him two years later.)
***
Regulus Arcturus Black. Although the youngest and perfect in everyone’s eyes, has some pretty well-hidden secrets of his own. Like how he would dance with girls just to spite his family but then he would get his brother to signal for him if he ended up getting thrown towards a girl his family wanted him to marry and walk away.
Regulus Black...
The biggest rule follower. Followed in his family’s footsteps even if he had not agreed with everything they were saying. Did all he could to get on his parents’ good side. As he grew up, he realised there was no good side. It was either “follow us to death” or “run as far as you can and make a life of your own in hiding to gain safety”.
His parents were wrong when they said to him and Sirius that all they had in common was black curly hair, chiseled faces, and grey eyes. They were similar in brave stupidity, chivalry, and honesty. Regulus may have been sorted into Slytherin but there was no doubt he had a heart of a lion, making him a lion in a snake’s den whereas his brother was a snake in a lion’s den. Sure Sirius was a Gryffindor, and that is where he belonged, but there was no escaping the teachings and rules of their family.
You could change yourself, think differently, and behave differently but you were still going to be holding on to knowledge of Dark Arts and how to protect yourself even if it meant death. Sure other people would fight to death, but some would stop before someone got hurt.
Not his family. If it wasn’t what they wanted; they would never listen and never stop until the last breath was taken. Even once you get away from them and years later become unrecognisable to them, there are going to be moments where you have a thought or two on what they did, who they were, how you were raised, and questioning the lies even after finding truth.
Another thing they were similar in?
Being gay.
Sirius’ friend was right. You are born the way you are. You can’t help who you love.
And Regulus couldn’t help but love James.
It shattered him to break up with him when he became caught in the turmoil of Voldemort.
Once Regulus went running back to James - even though he was married to Lily - he took him back into his arms and they welcomed him into a home where there was nothing but love.
Regulus thought he could not love two people; that it was wrong. Even with seeing Narcissa and Sirius doing so.
They showed him he could, and it was alright.
They protected him, helped him, and rescued him.
Unfortunately he still died at eighteen leaving behind his husband, two daughters, a son, and another unborn son. (Or did he?)
***
So what makes love forbidden?
Nothing.
Love is love is love.

The Potential In Philoise
Tumblr media

tw/ sexual assault, abuse, depression, suicide, julia quinn’s writing
AN: Okay, so I said awhile ago I would explain why Phillip and Eloise are my favorite couple in the series so get ready...it’s a bit of a long one.
I read four Bridgerton books immediately after the show ended. Skipping over The Duke and I because I wasn’t comfortable with the assault scene between Simon and Daphne and also because I had already seen the romance play out onscreen. I fell in love with each romance I encountered, mainly because I didn’t read them as they were but as the show would make them out to be. I romanticized a romance series as weird as that sounds. Yet, none of the romances struck me the way To Sir Phillip, With Love did.
It’s not a perfect book. In fact, it's incredibly problematic. Phillip rapes his depressed wife, Marina (although given Julia’s history with crossing the lines of consent I doubt this is the way she wanted us to interpret the scene. Actually, the way it was written made it seem like we were meant to sympathize with Phillip and his loveless marriage. Hence the way he immediately grows ill afterward.) Marina attempts suicide and dies due to disease later on. Given her storyline in the show and the fact that a young biracial woman is playing her was disheartening, to say the least.
(AN: I don’t consider the character to be Black representation, she’s biracial. As a black woman who enjoyed her character and arc, no part of me felt seen and represented through her because she was half black. She's Biracial rep, not Black rep and that’s okay. Just putting that out there. )
Phillip seeks a woman to take care of his children, fuck and do the shit he doesn’t want to do. His mental illness is handled in such a shitty way. The independent nature Eloise once has is almost stifled by Phillip and what he wants for some reason. He’s neglectful, erratic and he does dismiss potential negative feelings Eloise could have in their relationship because of his past relationship.
It's fucked up. The entire book.
And yet, imagining how this problematic romance would play out on screen once properly adapted for modern audiences makes me fucking giddy. All because of one, simple thing that remains the reason I am so fucking excited to see this pairing onscreen.
The unrealized potential the pairing and Phillip as a character have in the novel.
Let me explain.
Their romance is unique. Phillip and Eloise are not strangers when they meet. They’ve been writing to each other for months, picking each other’s brains every week or so. Getting to know each other in a way that other couples in the series don’t at first. Intellectually. They’re able to keep such a steady, enthralling dialogue through letters, and it's a friendship that they both enjoy. Phillip stimulates Eloise’s mind, something the show has emphasized her wanting, for months. He’s her intellectual equal, or at least...he has the potential to be. Of course, he slaves over the letters (which is cute as fuck because he really just wants her to like him) but it's still his words. It’s his voice. It is Phillip, at his best.
I hope the show can play this up. Phillip is a botanist and a scholar before he inherits his family’s estate. Eloise has a desire to learn and further her knowledge of the world around her. Bonding over their shared love of education, fun banter based around teasing the other and their individual studies, taking an interest in what the other desires to learn. Reading books together in the greenhouse, etc. The show could easily play up the fact that Phillip was not only a gardener but a literal man of science, something Julia neglects in their book despite it having the possibility of playing a major factor in their love story.
The possibilities of it just...makes me swoon.
Moving on, Eloise choosing to pursue a possible future with this man is a big fucking deal. Running away from home to go after a future for herself IS her displaying her OWN agency. Sure, Phillip poses the question of it but she’s the one who chooses it. Phillip doesn’t demand her to come to him, he simply suggests it and she’s the one who acts. The one who pursues. And if they hadn’t been bombarded by her brothers, it would’ve remained her choice of whether or she wanted to be a part of this man’s life permanently.
Phillip wouldn’t have forced her, he could’ve easily tried to. By going to the Bridgerton house and discussing with Anthony the possibility of marrying her but no, he asks her. HE ASKS HER AND SHE CHOOSES. I fucking love that. It's like the bare minimum but given the time period and the number of couples where the man has the final say on the marriage, this just makes me giddy. The show could change this and give Eloise more time with Phillip to the point where she chooses him and isn’t forced into the marriage which I hope they do.
Also, their first meeting where neither one of them is what the other expects sounds amazing ngl. The initial confusion, shock, unease, and undeniable attraction, it's gonna serve why lie?
Despite how much it affects him, the subject of Phillip’s abuse is handled so...wrong. As someone who shares an experience with abusive parents, I understand the fear of becoming like them. Of hurting the ones you love and being angry and feeling guilty. Yet, Phillip never confronts these fears. Not really. Sure, we get the scene in the nursery but thinking of how the show could handle it and his relationship with his children makes me excited. Having him being neglectful of his children was the wrong move, especially if his fear is hurting them in an attempt to discipline them. It's clear he loves them and ultimately wants the best for them which is why he’s searching for someone to better take care of them despite the shitty bitch he already has hired. I hope the show capitalizes on that.
Have Phillip be involved but not a disciplinary figure. Yeah, I get that he’s the man or whatever but it's clear that Phillip finds no enjoyment in the act or even pondering it. But he does love his kids. Have him be overwhelmed but still involved. It just felt weird that Phillip didn’t want anything to do with his kids despite one of his main reasons to look for a wife was so that they could be properly taken care of. Have him try but struggle. A lot.
It’d be funny to see Oliver and Amanda running the house and Phillip struggling to keep up. They’re supposed to be mischievous, they should play that up in the show. Having the kids be little gremlins but instead of him ignoring them completely, he could just give in to their whims. And when his anger does get the best of him, then he could run. Be distant, wrestle with his internal struggle with abuse but also knowing he can’t let his kids run his household like this and go about as reckless as they do.
Speaking of abuse, I hope they scrap the nursery lady altogether. I know it’s supposed to show him stepping into dad mode but it just felt like unnecessary and triggering of his own child abuse. He could easily step into this role by learning to deal with his anger, learning to control it. Eloise could suggest journaling the way she does (another bonding moment that could be less cute and more intimate if done right.) Having him put his anger into gardening, I interpreted it as it being a safe place and coping mechanism for him in the book and that would be nice to see.
Having to finally put an end to his kids' tirade once he learns to trust himself and realize that he’s nothing like his father. Actual healing from childhood trauma and Eloise helping him do so. She could also suggest boxing with her brothers like...it just makes sense. As someone with a temper, boxing helped me sort through that and the opportunity to see Phillip and Simon bonding, while boxing, over their shitty dads, sounds pretty fucking cathartic (and hot).
I would just like the show to truly show that just because you’ve dealt with abuse doesn’t mean you have to be defined and like your abuser. Phillip is a pretty great candidate for it because the guy is...scarred, to say the least.
I love the physical side of Phillip and Eloise’s relationship. Like really love, it's said that they try different things and are comfortable in that regard with each other and it just...yeah, that makes me happy. Besides that, I hope they play up the intellectual side of their relationship. Two nerds in love are adorable and imagining Phillip ranting about plants and Eloise just being completely enthralled at this man and his passion sounds like the cutest fucking shit.
Speaking of intellectual, it's implied Phillip cares little about high society. Meaning, wouldn’t he care even less about societal expectations and norms? Meaning Eloise would literally find freedom with this man to just...do her. Despite the book showing how Phillip wants a wife, it never really says that he cares exactly how that wife maintains herself or their household. Eloise wants to fuck around and wear trousers? He doesn’t care. Eloise wants a private tutor and a study for herself? Cool. Eloise wants to take Amanda riding in the forest and then teach her how to shoot? All good. The man was literally proud to watch her beat her brothers in a traditionally masculine sport. He wants his wife to run his house and his entire life how she sees fit.
Julia really neglected how much agency and power that could give Eloise. She could be his equal, like really be his equal. Of course, Phillip becoming more involved in his and his children’s lives is a part of his arc but nothing leads me to believe he would want to control Eloise. The two of them being more than just lovers, but partners who allow the other their freedoms when needed sounds epic as shit.
Now some things that could easily be left out, the rape scene. It’s there to showcase that Phillip has lost his wife and there is no chance of reigniting whatever they may have had in the past. Yet, there are so many other ways to show that. Phillip could try and speak with her with no response. Hold her hand and she pulls away? He’s a smart man, it doesn’t take much to get the hint so that could’ve easily been written out and replaced with something else.
Second of all, I like the possibility of Marina and Phillip finding happiness at first. Of them trying to love each other after George and succeeding. The way Marina is written in the show, I doubt she’s quick to give up. So to see the two of them having an agreeable marriage and getting along would be nice. They could showcase her mental illness in a different form, it's clear she suffers from postpartum depression. She withdraws into herself, distances herself from her children. She’s depressed but it's not as stereotypical and easily spotted as Julia makes it out to be. Marina just gives up on her children and life without any fight? Absolutely not.
As someone who suffers from depression, the way Julia wrote it is so...??? The truth is, I would like Phillip and their family to not even realize she’s suicidal. To not see it coming when she jumps in the lake and attempts to end her own life because that's exactly how suicide impacts so many people and their loved ones. They don’t see it coming. Phillip struggling with the guilt of that rather than the anger of being trapped in a loveless marriage sounds...a lot more interesting to me. Me, personally. Considering how much buzz the show has, it would spark up a dialogue and a good one if handled properly. I’ve thought a lot about Marina but this is just how I would prefer to see it handled if they go through with her canon death (which I am not actively rooting for by the way.)
Another reason I like the potential of Philloise is Oliver and Amanda, they just add some extra spice. If fully realized characters, watching them grow closer to their dad and form a relationship with Eloise would be so rewarding for two kids who have lost a lot. Also, the amount of comedic gold in their pranks with Eloise and dynamic with each other would give the season even more humor on top of Eloise herself.
And as much as I love the line, “this-us-is heaven.” They could easily modify the love speech. Like very easily.
My point is, I think their potential outweighs the problematic factors in their story and I doubt the show will fail on realizing it and ridding itself of the problematic aspects. One could even say they already started, I mean look at the way the show made a point to show Eloise’s disgust with fathers and husbands who abandon their family, and then comes Phillip, doing the absolute most to protect his remaining family. I mean, Bridgerton did turn the weakest romance in the series into a whole pop culture phenomenon. My hopes are high. Okay, that’s all.

I’ve always been really curious about Matt and his sister Christie’s relationship. When we first meet her on season 1 we find they aren’t close because Christie obviously doesn’t agree with the fact that Matt understands his mums actions even though it’s clear he hates that, that is how she chose to handle the situations but Matt points out that Christie was at college when things got really bad and she was their dads favourite. But just because your Matt stands up for his mum should that have been enough for Christie his older sister to have so little contact with him??
I’ve always been so curious about what happened after Matt’s mum murdered his dad. Did Matt go into fosters care, into a group home perhaps. How old was he? How old was Christie? Did Christie ever offer to take Matt? Did they have any family members to look after them after everything that happened? Christie and Matt have both mentioned that their family has always kept secrets, the murder and abuse isn’t a secret, so what secrets? I’ve always just been so curious about Casey’s past. It was such a big storyline but very little was revealed.
Also, I would like to see Matt, his sister and niece just have some nice family scenes like family dinners, maybe his sister could come to one of the 51 picnics. And I would love for Christie and his niece Violet to meet Sylvie.
I will forever be curious about the Casey family backstory too, mainly because I feel they only scratched the surface with that storyline! There’s still so much that’s left to be implied/left up to the imagination. This is going to be pretty long because I have THOUGHTS on this (hence, why it took me a while to reply) so buckle up people. You know the drill: read under the cut to see the full thing, folks. It's worth it, I promise!
In regards to Christie and Matt’s relationship, it’s interesting because I completely get why they were so estranged from each other at first?? As someone who also has a very complicated relationship with my brother, I can say that even the smallest of things can cause rifts between siblings— and the loss of their father at the hands of their mother was no small occurrence. Matt’s point about her not being around for the brunt of their father’s emotional abuse is not important as the one about being the favourite though. Because sure, she was in college by the time things got bad, but being the favourite also probably meant that she didn’t have to endure as much of their dad’s crap even when she was around.
My theory is that, most likely, it was because she was a girl. We all know that Greg Casey was a piece of shit to his wife so I don’t doubt that he would be rude to women, but fathers tend to have a different mentality when dealing with sons vs. daughters. It’s rooted in misogyny, really, the idea of having the “precious baby girl to protect”. I have no doubt that their father had that mentality when it came to Christie, seeing her as the pure little princess who could do no wrong. But because Matt and Christie’s father most likely raised them in an environment that valued toxic masculinity, it was Matt who was the focus of his attention. He wanted his son to be like him— to not be sensitive or vulnerable, to bottle his emotions— all of the things that “real men” do. So whereas Christie could have been getting pats on the back and being told “oh you’re my sweet little girl and you can’t date those loser boys” Matt was being belittled and taught how to internalize things. If And Christie wasn’t there to witness the worst of it, the murder of her father would have been more traumatizing. Family dynamics are complicated, but distancing herself from Matt was probably exactly what she needed at the time.
As for all the unanswered questions, again, I can only give my personal theories. In canon, we know that Matt was about 16/17 when his father was killed. Christie was in college by then so I doubt she had the money or time to take her teen brother in. I know it’s a common headcanon that Matt went into foster care temporarily during that year but I’m not so sure about that?? Contrary to what television has you believe, arraignment and sentencing proceedings do take quite a while. Someone my family knew was arrested for a serious drunk driving accident and it took the courts a little over a year to officially put him in jail— and that was for a pretty open and shut case. With something as complex as a murder trial, with various mitigating factors coming into play, it very well could have been a year by the time Matt’d mom was sent to prison. If they didn’t believe she was a flight risk I don’t see why they wouldn’t have let her out on bail during the trial, especially if she had a kid to take care of. And courts make special arrangements all the time for defendants with children/special circumstances. After that, if he was still under 18 by the time she was in prison, only then would he be either living with his family members or in the foster system. That’s when I think the possibility of him being in temporary foster’s care would become a viable possibility— because the Caseys had secrets. We learned in 9x09 and even before then that Matt and Christie do have aunts and uncles and grandparents some of whom were alive and well. So I have absolutely no idea what kind of secrets their family would have but I imagine they’re secrets that would prevent them from feeling capable of bringing a 16/17-year-old boy into their homes. In general, I’m just as bummed by the lack of information regarding the aftermath of Casey’s mom going to prison as you are!
I would also love to see more of Christie and Violet around the firehouse. It’s been too long! Nicole Forester (who plays Christie) is still tweeting about the show which seems a little odd if she was just doing a one-and-done sort of thing for Fire this season, so I’m holding out hope that maybe she comes back. Probably not with Violet, although I would love to see her again and have a check-in to see what she’s been doing all these years!
