Having a sword held against my throat wasn’t on my bingo card for ‘Strange Happenings in Twisted Wonderland.’ Then again, neither was a very tall, very angry Lilia Vanrouge. It seems only fitting for a human spy who has made it so far behind our barricade.”

Somehow, Crowley's spell had backfired and not taken me back home to my dimension, but into the past.

Lilia braced his arm next to my head, his long hair forming a curtain around our faces. His nose is inches from mine, but I feel no comfort in the proximity. “Talk. Before I grow tired and find something else to occupy that mouth.”

Fae Language

The screeching/growling sounds that the masked soldiers are making are actually an old fae language

Sebek is able to understand it (not perfectly, but he understands overall what they are saying), as his mother and grandfather taught it to him

Silver tried learning it from Lilia, but Silver’s ears couldn’t even pick out the words. Sebek said his father said the same thing. Sebek explains that compared to other animals, humans have a limited range of hearing, and since he is descended from fae, he can pick up on minute sounds that humans cannot

Languages and methods of pronunciation differ from one fae species to another, but by imbuing their voices with magic they can all communicate with one another. Presently, many of the fae in briar valley speak a common language, and not many speak the old fae languages.

Silver Owl/Iron Ones

The Silver Owl is a group of humans that invaded the Land of Briar and they are tearing up the forests, destroying the mountains, and generally making a huge mess of things as they excavate the land for magical stones, mystium, gemstones, and other resources

All the members of the group wear iron armor, and that is why the fae have taken to calling their members “the iron ones”

Lilia and the imperial guards have been struggling to drive them out of the country since there are so many of them

They arrived at ”Cape Sunrise”（? 来光岬） about a hundred years ago in just one little sailboat. Their numbers increase in the blink of an eye and they quickly surpassed the fae. They now pretty much dominate the land from the “Canyon of Screaming Winds” (?? 風鳴き渓谷) to the east

Henrick

Leader of the Silver Owl

Lilia describes him as a greedy, vulgar man who’s “big like a barrel”

Spends most of his time relaxing at the fortress and rarely comes out

Knight of Dawn

At one point, Grim whines for some fruit growing high up in a tree, and Lilia uses his magic to get it down without making a sound (there were enemy soldiers in the area). He says he’s only ever missed once when he set his eyes on a target, but doesn’t answer what that was when Sebek asks

While on their way to the fortress, some fae kids recognize Lilia and call out to him. He calls them annoying brats and basically tells them to scram. But the kids say they want to protect the country together with Lilia, and he smirks and lightens up.

At one point he kicks Silver and sends him flying, and Silver falls right in front of some Silver Owl soldiers passing by. They think that Silver must’ve been held prisoner by the fae and that he had escaped and they stop to help him, and then Lilia and the others attack while they’re distracted

One time, when he, Levan, and Mallenoa were kids, they got lost in the forest after getting caught up in another one of Mallenoa’s whims. This was back when they couldn’t fly very well, and there was a thick fog in the forest, and they couldn’t find the way home. Levan was freaking out but Mallenoa was having a great time. The next morning the imperial guards came and found them. Even though they went out there per Mallenoa’s suggestion, Lilia was the one who got an earful for it

They come to a deserted town and recuperate in one of the abandoned homes. They find some spinning wheels, a doll on the floor, and marks on the wall where someone was getting their height measured every year. Lilia scoffs at the mess the kids that lived there must have made. He figures that once Mallenoa’s egg hatches he’s probably going to get babysitting duty shoved on him and be made to clean up after the kid. He says just thinking about it makes him sick. He says he hates children, they’re loud, do what they want, and always cry, and worst of all, they’re weak. He says the thought of having to look after a creature that gets worn out so easily sends a shiver down his spine. Sebek suggests that perhaps Lilia’s mind will change someday, and that he might like to have a family of his own in the future. But Lilia looks at him like he’s grown two heads and says he has no intention of ever running a household. He murmurs, “Until now, and from now on, I…” but doesn’t finish the thought.

Mallenoa (? マレノア)

Queen Maleficia’s one and only daughter and the Lady of Briar Castle (?野ばら城) (To this, Silver gets confused and says “Briar Castle? Not the royal castle in the Dragon Capitol City/Imperial City(?竜の港), Black Scale Castle” (???黒鱗城))

She commands the imperial guards and is the “keystone of the country’s defense”

She ordered Lilia and the guards to deliver a written ultimatum to the Silver Owl demanding they cease their insolent actions at once.

Other delegates have been sent to deliver demands to the silver owl’s fortress before, but one by one they went missing. So instead of having lilia’s company just fly to the fortress, she told them to go on foot and search for the missing delegates and rout any silver owl members along the way

Lilia says she is a tomboy, quarrelsome, hot tempered, and selfish. He calls her the Land of Briar’s most disastrous princess. He says ever since he’s been conscious of his surroundings he’s been wrapped around her little finger for the past 300 years

Levan (? レヴァーン)

Mal’s dad and Mallenoa’s husband. He was an aristocrat and served as the Land of Briar’s diplomat. Title is 龍眼公　(Lit. dragon eye Lord/duke).

His whereabouts are unknown

Tamago-Sama (😭)

in the dream, Mal is currently an egg and is due to hatch in 2-3 years

Dragon eggs will not hatch without their parent’s love and magic poured/concentrated/flowing into them

Silver

He says he doesn’t have his sleeping problems when he is within a dream. He never suddenly falls asleep or anything like he normally does when awake

He says his father brought him to lots of different magical healers growing up but none of them could find out what was wrong and they would all throw in the towel in the end

The silver owl soldiers keep mistaking Silver for somebody else. One knight asks if Silver is here to save them, another says he feels like he recognizes silver from somewhere. Based on the way they address him, whoever they are mistaking him for is someone socially superior to them

At one point, the darkness appears, and silver’s ring starts to glow. The light from the ring dispels the darkness

Lady Leah (? レイア)

Henrick’s little sister

Its rumored that she is in love with the knight of dawn

Ending Scene

The Silver Owl fortress is empty when the group arrives. The door closes behind them and an armored device starts attacking them

After they defeat the device, a fae messenger arrives letting them know that the Briar Castle is under attack by the Silver Owl. Both Henrick and the Knight of Dawn are leading the charge

I think Ch. 7/4 may have just given us both Crowley's identity as well as the identity of his "dear esteemed benefactor"

Obvs. Spoilers Ahead in this analysis and speculative hypothesis (which will link the prologue to the current events in Ch. 7):

This moment is the moment that sent me down this rabbit hole:

General Lilia essentially calling Lady Malenore Briar Country's "most evil" princess.

I went over the prologue again semi-recently to see if the knowledge we have gathered since the start of the game recontextulizes some things. And while the purpose of the analysis then was different, what I did take special note of was that Crowley is speaking to a different but very specific person. To quote the man himself (from the English version):

"Ah, my dear esteemed benefactor...

My proud, beautiful flower of evil.

You are truly the fairiest one of all."

The way Crowley addresses this person is very interesting because it at once seems very subservient and almost intimate.

But what is even more interesting is the original Japanese phrasing. I will go through the lines one by one to point out the notable details:

ああ‥‥‥愛しい我が君

"愛しい" (itoshii) is generally used to describe something that is lovely, dear. "我が君" (waga kimi) is generally understood to mean "my lord/ruler/master". The translation as "my dear esteemed benefactor" is... alright, though it does seem to detract a bit from the portrayal of this person as someone that has a lot of power over Crowley.

What I'd like to note though is that since Japanese is a very context dependent language this line might also be read a very different way: if "kimi" was used in the context that Crowley knows this person very well, being allowed to address them directly like this... then the line could also be read as Crowley calling this person "My beloved." There is still the underlying power dynamic underneath but it is more finely tuned and something that reminds me more of a pair of royals.

This would certainly not be the first way for someone to understand this line but subtext and double meanings can reveal a lot.

気高く麗しい悪の華

Notable here is mainly that Crowley is using a lot of archaic words to describe the person he is speaking to (e.g. using the kanji "華" instead of the modern "花" - both pronounced "hana," meaning flower). This may indicate that this person is of a people whose culture does not move as fast as the rest of the world's - still bound to old ways of speaking and thinking.

貴女こそが世界で一番美しい

Now, this last line is spicy. The English version of this line is pretty gender neutral after all - the fairest of them all. But what the original line makes very explicit is that Crowley is talking to/about a woman.

"貴女" (anata) - not "貴方" (anata), not "我が君" (waga kimi) but "貴女"

Crowley is addressing a noble woman directly in a manner that implies they are of equal standing. Like a husband addressing his wife.

Now let's circle back to that conversation Lilia, Silver, Sebek and co. are having about Malenore for a minute.

Because what Lilia also calls Malenore is this:

Malenore is the only daughter to Queen Maleficia and she the ruling Lady of "Wild Rose Castle" (野ばら城). Which is known to Silver only as "Black Scale Castle" (黒鱗城).

In other words, Malenore is one of the most powerful noble women in the Twisted Wonderland, she is strongly associated with with Wild Roses/ Briar Roses, and on top of that described as the "most evil" princess by her own general (whether in jest or not is of little consequence).

And this description should ring very familiar after going over Crowley's introductory monolog. A noble, beautiful "Flower of Evil" as it were.

But if that is the truth, then the familiar way Crowley addresses Malenore can only mean that Crowley's true identity is Malenore's husband. Who else would be allowed to speak to her im such an intimate and familiar manner.

Malenore's husband whose status hasn't actually been confirmed, other than he is missing in some capacity. And while I have seen a many transcriptions of his name, no one seems to have gotten it right yet:

"竜眠公レヴァーン"

The Sleeping Dragon Lord Raven

And what is the associated animal of our dear Night Raven's headmaster?

A crow.

A corvid.

A raven.

Crowley did always had something of the mad hatter to him, didn't he? And he might just have something with a raven and a writing desk..

After all, a raven is nevar the same front to back as back to front.

And thus, at the end, we have the lost parents of a little dragon, summoning a human with no magical ability to this Twisted Wonderland - a human that cannot be influenced by blot.

Curious, curious...

Ace Info Compilation part 10: Standing Up

Ace standing up to people in positions of authority who are objectively stronger than himself is a running theme: he accuses Trey directly of enabling Riddle (calling him pathetic), stands up to Riddle’s tyranny in Book 1 despite knowing his painful history, is the first student in Book 3 to try (and fail) to stand up against Azul, defends Epel from Vil in the opening of Book 5 and argues with Vil outright about his strict lifestyle rules, getting poisoned for his efforts.

Ace also tells Leona that it is “typical” for him to be “skipping out on the actual work,” saying, “Aren’t you supposed to be a housewarden? How about showin’ some leadership?” to his face.

Even after Leona proves himself Ace says, “I admit that’s helpful, but still…”

Ace is also harsh with Riddle outside of the main story, despite being his own housewarden: when Riddle loses his temper at a ghost during phantom bride (the ghost called him short) and sets it on fire, Ace scolds him for ruining their plans, saying, “You’re the lousiest suitor out of anyone who’s come so far!” despite Riddle’s apology.

Ace has a habit of saying the quiet part out loud in general, even when he is speaking to an upperclassman.

He insults Trey’s singing to his face and behind his back, teases Leona about Cheka, says that, for Diasomnia, Lilia is unusually friendly and complains about Jamil’s food in front of him.

Ace also pressures Rook to admit that he actually voted for Neige during the VDC as a devoted fan rather than because he was impressed with Neige's performance.

When Vil offers to compensate the VDC team for the prize money that his overblot made them lose out on, almost every team member immediately promises to donate their portion to Ramshackle dorm, with Ace following with, “talk about peer pressure.”

Deuce also struggles with the pressure to donate (“That money would go a long way for my family. But still…”) and Ace assures him, “Oh, I’m taking the money…I’ve been eyeing some new clothes and shoes lately.”

In exchange for keeping his prize money, Ace says he will treat the prefect and Grim to lunch at the school cafeteria. (Deuce offers lattes and dessert.)

Jamil says that Ace is closer to the third-year students in the basketball club than himself and Floyd and Ace himself says that he gets along well with upperclassmen from other dorms, so it is possible that he is just not intimidated by older students in general, thus why he is always able to speak his mind so freely (possibly a result of his older brother’s influence).

Riddle might be the only person who see call Ace out on his casual way of speaking to his upperclassmen, saying that Ace’s use of phrases like “stuff my face” is not any way to speak to his housewarden, he uses “uncouth language” and he wishes that Ace would dress properly more often as he can look like “quite the gentleman.”

Ace does, however, use honorifics with his, upperclassmen, referring to the 2nd- and 3rd- year students as “first-name-senpai.”

He refers to his fellow 1st-years just by their first names and he calls Sam, “Sam-san.”

He usually just calls Riddle “Housewarden,” but he will sometimes say “Housewarden Riddle” as opposed to Deuce’s “Housewarden Rosehearts” (every member of Heartslabyul on the main cast refers to Riddle in a different way.)

Ace teases Jack for looking so out of place as a “buff and brawny” person from Sunset Savanna at Heartlsabyul.

Jack points out that he is from the Shaftlands, to Ace’s surprise (“I thought everyone from there was all flashy and dapper and stuff.”)

Riddle insists that he sees “nothing amiss” about Jack being in the lounge and scolds Ace for being so narrow-minded about other countries and cultures.

Exactly! A lot of things influence the way people come up with ideas, this is such a complex thing, of course not everything is going to cater to everyone – this is simply impossible. Picking and choosing and reading stuff that interests you while avoiding things that annoy or hurt you is always the way to go.

Oh, that’s a fun question. I feel like Idia would be the only one, and he would also probably have this excuse/explanation, like he really isn’t into BL, but this particular work is just very good, it has great art style, good writing + Idia’s favourite artist was influenced by this manga/series of doujins, so of course he had to get it, this is an important otaku artifact! And OF COURSE it’s paper, that’s the whole point! Even if it’s smutty, it’s art!

Ortho could start getting into BL himself; he would start by reading this one manga that Idia owns lol Idia was sure he’d hidden it well.

The rest of the cast strike me as normies… but hey, Lilia could have some! If he has any manga at all, I can imagine him owning a BL book just ‘cause. But since he probably bought it years ago when he was traveling around the TWST equivalent of Japan, it might be a bit outdated lol And probably a little cursed, which is why Lilia got so into this book back then.

However, your family is cursed to sing songs of heartbreak, woe, and sorrow until your last days due to Orpheus disrespecting Dionysus shortly before his death (his head was cut off, thrown into a river Hebrus to sing mournful songs). The gods also cursed you for all of your relationships to end in heartbreak until you find your soulmate- someone you would venture to the ends of the earth for (based off of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth). Many of your family members were driven to madness- singing songs of sorrow without having a soulmate to share them with; and many of the lovers of your family members met their untimely demise from the wrath of Dionysus. This curse is as well known as the prolific poets and bards of your family, so though people enjoy your songs- they stray away from getting romantically involved.

Despite this curse, you sing your songs with a merry tune- gaining reputation at NRC as the party person/just someone who knows how to have a damn good time. You're a hopeless romantic- falling quickly- but it all ends the same when you confess- "You know how it ends- you get it right?" . You laugh with a knowing smile- because what else could you do in the face of such absurdity?

You're childhood friends with Vil, and he's watched your heart get broken many times. Despite his feelings for you, he doesn't think you'd want to be with someone like him. The ones who did find their soulmate in your family were together with other bards, kings, heros, honorable soliders- so he thinks it's a very low probability that he's actually your soulmate- especially as he us typecasted more and more into the villan role (and is somewhat comfortable in that role with his sharp tongue, even towards you)

Slow burn ensues- friends to lovers dynamic :)

Azul x Mute Siren MC (Completed)

You used to be a relatively well-known singer in the Coral Sea, even being invited to the Ashengrotto family's restaurant on occasion. However because your mother is also a famous singer, you have a lot of her harsh standards to uphold. One day you disappear from the public eye because you are affected with the hanahaki disease- the cause of which is unknown to everyone. Azul, as a child, is worried- but you soon become a distant memory

My take on hanahaki disease is a little different- I think it could affect many types of love including familial, parental, etc. Heartbreak and unrequited love doesn't only exist in romantic contexts. When you find that you're mother doesn't truly love you- but loves you for the extension of herself that you are- you begin coughing up carnations- a flower which symbolizes a mother's love.

Finding that the flowers permanently damaged your throat after surgery- your mother sends you off to one of her sisters since you're no longer of use to her. You grow up in the Southern parts of the Coral Sea at your aunt's flower shop, before your enrollment into NRC where Azul is surprised to find you (and the slow burn begins >:) )

You speak through the language of flowers- hanakotoba- your aunt teaches you. Though no one really reads into the symbolism of flowers, Azul is familiar with it since it was one of your interests as a child.

Jamil x Shikigami MC (Completed)

As a Shikigami, you are bound to your master (an Onmyoji), to serve him until death. Shikigami are usually seen as gods, spirits, or a representation of an Onmyoji's power- so there is no escape from this life unless your Onmyoji is killed, or willingly sets you free (if you've ever seen Spirited away- they're those little paper things thay follow Haku). Because Shikigami are expendable, they're usually set up for less favorable tasks like spying, stealing, assassination, stalking, etc.

Because Shikigami are usually not able to be seen through the human eye- you show quiet signs that you don't actually have a corporeal form- like no shadow, no reflection, no footsteps, no shine in your eye, doll-like limbs. But the body that you're in actually used to be yours- which was cursed into a Shikiouji (a more elite and powerful version of Shikigami) form because you angered a powerful Onmyoji in your past life.

You are ordered by your master to enroll into NRC and kill the Kamil. However- you are stopped by Jamil, who takes you to the headmage who orders temporary in school suspension. Jamil sees your master put hands on you due to your failure- and his instinct kicks in- ordering the Onmyoji to free you. Little does he know this makes him your master now, and you trail him where ever you can.

Though he wants you to leave him alone at first, your admiration of his true skill and talent slowly begins to reveal the humanity in you, as well as bringing him out of his own shell. Enemies to friends to lovers

Malleus' tamagotchi. A theory.

A theory that i haven't seen talked about a lot. {personally}

Going through pinterest and searching random stuff, i would eventually fall into TWST meme posts and more. One of them is Malleus holding his tamagotchi, "Roaring Drago"/ "Gao-Gao Drakon-Kun" and something saying about it being an easter egg. This includes the comments explaining that a tamagotchi's life lasts 12 days at most. After it ends, you will get a new egg/respawn. I can't find this currently. But i give credit to the pinterest post for this.

So, welcome to the tamagotchi theory. A blab since i was bored and don't have other twst fans to talk to. TW: Unedited, English is still not my first language, poor grammar, poor punctuation, possibility of missed information, spoilers, I am only caught up to chapter six on lore. Haven't played it the past few months.

Through the comments, it had spoke about Malleus possibly restarting the world. Just so then he wouldn't have to see Lilia go away or humans such as Yuu, Sebek, or Silver pass on. I'm saying Sebek since he is half human half fae. Therefore, even as i am unknown of his life span, would most likely have a shorter span than Malleus since it seems that he is growing by human years and stages. Sebek Zigvolt is 16[source] It would make sense if Sebek Zigvolt had a life span longer than humans yet shorter than faes. Other than that, we go to Yuu. It is known that Yuu may have a chance to get back. Even then, It doesn't matter, teh reaction will still stay teh same. Even if Yuu stays, they will age on since Yuu is a human. If Yuu were to stay in Twisted Wonderland with no way back, then Yuu would also die in twisted wonderland from age or other means. We can delve into the Yuu and Malleus relationship as well. Described as having a "...powerful aura that wards away most people from approaching him." More may have been described as: "...doesn’t get too friendly as he speaks, his calm, respectful yet cold tone always remaining and even those who want to get closer to him (like Silver or Sebek) fail to do as much as they wish to." "Malleus himself does not interact closely with other students beyond Lilia, Silver, and Sebek... this is mostly due to others being scared and avoiding him." "Despite enjoying time alone, away from his concerned and watchful attendants in exploring abandoned buildings, Malleus shows signs of loneliness and a desire to connect normally with others." This description of him depicts of how lonely he is always as way of communication. Yuu was one of the people to introduce themselves calmly to Malleus. Even having the choice to call him a nickname, showing that how he hides his name is another way to show how he knows that people fear him. Yuu is as well the first to treat him without a sense of caution. Still treating Malleus as a friend even after being informed of him and who he is. It is safe to say he is quite friendly with Yuu. As much as we wish TWST was an Otome, although the characters act differently (ex.Malleus, Rook, etc.) But, we can still say that They are still friendly. With this, Malleus may have a tendency to be attached to such people in his close ad small friend group. "...He is also said to have a naïve and childish side to him..." I bring this up since I am as well afraid everyone i know may leave some day. Malleus is afraid of that as well seeing how he reacted to Lilia leaving and Yuu having the possibility to go home.

This is all for now since i have lost my train of thought. This may become a Repost thread, idk. I blabbed and blabbed. This is just a dump of everything in my brain.

Idia Shroud is Autistic-Coded; Here's Why

Hello! Happy Autism Awareness Month! In celebration, I will be posting a wholeeee load of autistic traits I have found in Idia. This is coming from a person who, while undiagnosed, is most likely autistic.

If you have any additions, please tell me in whatever way is most convenient (comments, reblogs, asks, dms... whatever.) This list will likely be evergrowing as more events, vignettes, and story content are added to TWST. Some of these may be a stretch but ya know.

This is organized by trait for your (and my) convenience. Begins under cut!

*Warning, I am not a medical professional. I'm just autistic and for a while got fixated on autism itself. Which is why I call myself autistic... I've been researching this shit for many years lol

We'll be starting with DSM-5 requirements in order to be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Then, we will move to common experiences (things that most autistic people experience, but aren't a tell-tale sign that you're autistic and aren't a requirement for a professional diagnosis.) Finally will be disorders that Idia shows symptoms of that tend to co-occur with ASD.

Numbered list will explain the traits Idia demonstrates. At the end, the diagnostic criteria specified will be stated in parentheses and quotation marks.

A) Persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts...

Generally, Idia is seen to have trouble communicating with his peers if not behind a screen or while interacting with something he enjoys (such as talking about anime or playing a board game.) ("Deficits in social-emotional reciprocity, ranging, for example, from abnormal social approach and failure of normal back-and-forth conversation...")

Idia's way of expressing emotion is difficult to pin down. He will go from speaking very quietly (and stuttering usually) in a near-monotone voice with an "emotionless" expression to talking loudly, quickly, and with a HUGE smile on his face. We don't quite get to see how he responds to nonverbal communication or how he portrays it himself (probably because it doesn't come up, or because of live2d restrictions), but we do learn that he hates eye contact I believe in his Birthday Boy vignette when he claims to hate having to laugh and make eye contact with normies (masking right there buddy go to a doctor) ("Deficits in nonverbal communicative behaviors used for social interaction, ranging, for example, from poorly integrated verbal and nonverbal communication; to abnormalities in eye contact and body language or deficits in understanding and use of gestures; to a total lack of facial expressions and nonverbal communication.")

This is where it could kinda get stretchy, partially because I for the life of me am having trouble understanding A.3. BUT. Idia is often very blunt, to the point where he's straight up rude, especially in situations where that kind of attitude is... not very helpful. See the Phantom Bride event when he chastises the boys coming to rescue him for looking disheveled after fighting for their lives, which makes them not want to rescue him despite his life being on the line (I think Ace even goes off on him for this lol.) Furthermore, the only people amongst his peers that he will indulge are Azul, Ortho and (unknowingly, and only online) Lilia. The rest he has zero interest in, whether he despises or is scared of them. They're all normies. Finally, it's shown that throughout his life he has had very little if not zero friends in real life aside from Ortho. To be fair, I don't think there were many kids his age back home lol. ("Deficits in developing, maintaining, and understanding relationships, ranging, for example, from difficulties adjusting behavior to suit various social contexts; to difficulties in sharing imaginative play or in making friends; to absence of interest in peers.")

Part one of an autism diagnosis down! Idia shows persistent deficits in each social and communication area specified through A.1-A.3. In order to be diagnosed, you also much show two out of four of restricted, repetitive behaviors specified through B.1-B.4 below.

B) Restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities, as manifested by at least two of the following, currently or by history...

Due to live2d restrictions, we never exactly get to see Idia physically stim. (Well, I'd argue we get to see Floyd physically stim with his constant swaying back and forth, but not like they can flap their hands or anything.) This one's a stretch, but his form of verbal stimming could be the little sound effects he makes at times, mostly in book 6 actually. Specifically, his "DA DA DA DAAAAA" after explaining the plot of Star Rogue to the overblot victims in Styx as well as his "BOOM BADA BOOM BOOM BOOM! HAH!" after finishing Ortho in the flashback sequence. Other than that, the only other ideas I'd have for repetitive movements or sounds are headcanons. I don't know if I'd count this one. ("Stereotyped or repetitive motor movements, use of objects, or speech")

This is another one I don't think we ever see in-game. I don't know... the things I could consider part of this criteria would better fit as sensory things~! Again I'm an Idia connoisseur but if you know anything about this please tell me I will update this one. ("Insistence on sameness, inflexible adherence to routines, or ritualized patterns of verbal or nonverbal behavior")

Idia is shown to have MULTIPLE very strong interests. Whether this might be a special interest or hyperfixation... it's hard to tell, but I can sure guess. The longest-running interest we see him show to have, originating from way back when Ortho was still alive, is Star Rogue. Because he seems to know nearly everything about the game and has also maintained the interest for a long time, I would consider this a special interest (along with engineering and technomancy, which he's said to have excelled in since a young age.) Idia does talk about certain specific animes and other games he enjoys, but not to the degree of Star Rogue (yes that's my basis here), so I don't know if that's a special interest or just a hyperfixation. It's the same situation with idol groups, particularly Premo (or Fates on the Edge). This isn't even it. That man is fandom trash and I love him. ("Highly restricted, fixated interests that are abnormal in intensity or focus")

Idia is shown on multiple occasions to have sensory issues. To the point where, similarly to his strong interests, I don't know if I know half of it. During the Phantom Bride event and his Union Birthday vignette, Idia complains about his neck feeling cold due to his hair being brushed behind his hair (PB) or up in a ponytail (UB). He also complains about his Phantom Bride suit AND his Birthday Boy suit being "stuffy", but that one could also be a stretch. In the Harveston event, Idia says that he only eats his apples canned or peeled, which I'd chop up to sensory issues once again. (Although, that one could also be under B.2) Idia constantly has his headphones around his neck to listen to music. A bit of a stretch, but they're also noise canceling, so there's a chance he uses them to avoid overstimulation. Finally, Idia states that he doesn't like fish because it's smelly and slimy. I get that Idia raw fish is texture hell. As far as I know, there's no point in which Idia under-reacts to sensory input (e.g. pain) or becomes very invested in it (like staring at a moving wheel.) ("Hyper- or hyporeactivity to sensory input or unusual interest in sensory aspects of the environment")

And there we have it. Autism diagnosis. Idia demonstrates persistent deficits in all three sections under A and at least two sections under B. BUT WAIT! We still have C-E!

C) Symptoms must be present in the early developmental period (but may not become fully manifest until social demands exceed limited capacities, or may be masked by learned strategies in later life).

Really, the only point in which we see Idia demonstrate autistic traits in early life is his interest in Star Rogue. This is probably just because of how the storyline is. We actually don't know very much about Idia OR Ortho when they were young. However I would argue that Idia does mask because of the multiple times where he immediately just gets upset prior to talking to someone (something he probably hides during conversation). And ofc that one time he complains about talking to normies in his Birthday Boy vignette (? it could've be a voice line.)

D) Symptoms cause clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of current functioning.

Idia's symptoms in fact significantly impair his life. I think that alone is obvious enough. We see it every time that man's on screen.

E) These disturbances are not better explained by intellectual disability (intellectual developmental disorder) or global developmental delay...

Symptoms that Idia experiences could very well be explained by other mental disorders such as social anxiety, but these are not intellectual disabilities. Explaining away ASD for Idia falls into a trap many autistic people do in real life with medical professionals who just can't believe that their patient is autistic for one reason or another; these people will sometimes receive a dozen different diagnoses that all could be better explained by autism spectrum disorder. That's not very cool. Therefore, this does not apply.

Specifically, Idia would likely have ASD co-morbid with social anxiety and most likely clinical depression. (I HAVE done some minor research into Idia and bipolar disorder, but that's a situation for another day and far more of a stretch than ASD ever could be.)

DSM-5 requirements cleared! Next stage, common experiences.

This is another thing I will need help for because it's not like there's scholarly articles on "things a lot of autistic people experience but it's definitely not something a doctor will ask you about." So please share. This is the list that will never stop growing.

Abnormal posture (Crewel gets onto Idia for not standing up straight, he often is portrayed sitting in chairs with his knees to his chest, and he's seen doing "dino hands" or "T-Rex arms" in battle mode on occasion.)

Target of bullying (Many autistic people, especially autistic girls, tend to be bullied more often than their allistic peers. While not always to his face, people do tend to talk bad about Idia behind his back, Ortho even has a 'Don't Talk Shit About My Brother' beam for the bullies lol.)

More tone + social stuff... (Things that the DSM-5 thing didn't quite fit. In book 6 he jokes about torturing the overblots and when everyone's like 'dude wtf' he's like 'what it was a joke dumbass.' Could be written off as just an odd sense of humor, or it could be difficulty reading the room lol.)

A love for lists and organization. (When Idia speaks autonomously in your guest room, he mentions having things exactly where you need them and how it's 'convenience'. He also seems to have a knack for practicality. It's not too much of a stretch to say it ties into a need for organization.) (Idia has every NRC student organized into multiple tier lists on the R-SSR rating system like the in-game cards based on certain factors, such as most social.)

Easily startled. (Self-explanatory. HieEh.)

Preference for connection through interests. (Another reason why he is disconnected from those around him, aside from the whole trauma thing, and calls most other people "normies." They don't "get" his interests, so he has no interest in being friends with them.)

Difficulty with processing time. (Remember when he had apparently been working on Ortho's uhhh starsender gear? For like 12 hours straight?"

Relaxes through interacting with interests (In the vignette I referenced in 7, when Ortho tells him to take a break, he decides to play Star Rogue. Ortho meant to sleep.)

Putting off needs until one can not longer ignore them. (Idia often gets so engrossed in what he's doing that he forgets to do basic self-care tasks like eating.)

Infodumping. (Shown a lot in book 6. Namely with his like 2-3 minute long rant about Star Rogue. The rest, such as him rambling on and on about Styx, seems to be used so the audience knows what the HELL is happening. He does go on rants outside of this book tho.)

Gifted kid (Yeah he was called a "boy genius.")

This is not a complete list by any means, I could go on for DAYS.

On the topic of co-occurring disorders, the two most obvious disorders Idia clearly is dealing with are social anxiety and depression. Both of which are often co-morbid with ASD.

While social anxiety and ASD have a lot of overlap, they aren't the same thing, but often autism can contribute to the development of social anxiety through masking and the general difficulties in socializing that come with autism. Allistic people tend to react negatively in response to an autistic person doing something that the allistic person deems unorthodox. This reaction can often cause a lot of internal turmoil for the autistic person due to rejection-sensitive dysphoria. Furthermore, masking requires a high level of awareness of one's environment as well as the judgment of others. Thus, social anxiety can often develop.

While I don't know how exactly autism might affect depression as it does social anxiety, I do know that depression is VERY common in autistic adults. 5 in 10 adults with ASD have depression, and living in a world built for those who are neurotypical is hard for anyone who is neurodivergent, which definitely does not help. And it sure as hell has to make it worse for Idia of all people.

Additions made by others (tysm!): @hey-haven mentions in a reblog Idia's low empathy towards other people. I recommend heading over to their blog to check out what they said because they do make an amazing point and it's probably far better than anything I could explain (lol). But to paraphrase, they cite specifically Idia making fun of his classmates who just fought for their lives to rescue him during the Phantom Bride event and his attitude towards the overblot victims and their reactions to being essentially kidnapped during book 6, in which he seems to not really "get" why they're so upset. Generally, when it surrounds emotions that aren't his own, he's pretty oblivious. They also bring up his little "whee-hee-hee" laugh! It brings up an observation I've seen of autistic people (seemingly) laughing at "random" or generally inappropriate times because we tend to express laughter in a voiced manner (like laughing out loud because you find something genuinely funny) rather than an unvoiced manner (like the little exhale you do at a funny photo on your phone). Idia laughs a lot, I don't know if it's realistic to connect it to autism or if it's better explained by him just being a weird guy (which I love about him don't get me wrong lol.) Although the study about this was with specifically autistic and non-autistic children though... it's food for thought I guess.

The 3 musketeers au(Riddle, Vil, Azul and Silver are musketeers: one smooches the royalty, one is a successful model, one tries to make his father proud and one just wants to serve justice)

The swan lake au(Fiddle, but make it a romcom)

Mariposa/Fairytopia au(Idia sets on an adventure and our lord and savior Bibble is also there)

So this would be the 4th one :D

Lilia is a washed up sailor that lost hope of ever be found or escaping this island.

One day, he sees a ship. In hopes he could be saved, he tries to alert it, but the ship comes closer, revealing to be half sunken and with no one on board.

No one, except a small baby.

The ship remains were good for nothing, but Lilia managed to salvage some fabrics and wood to help him in his new goal: raising this baby.

So Silver grows up to be a fine man, taught by Lilia how to speak different languages, survival, combat and many more other skills. Silver also learns to communicate with animals and is just a kind person, so kind that no predator had the heart to hurt him.

Entering Kalim, exploring and finding the island.

Being curious of Silver and Lilia, he wants to take the 2 back to his palace. Silver is skeptical, but Lilia wants his son to have a bright future, one which the Palace surely can give it to him.

Also Silver's animal buddies: 2 parrots(Adeuce), one crocodile(Sebek), a wolf(jack), a (lavender)red panda(epel) and 2 predatory birds(the shroud bros, but only ortho is actively involved)

Of course, Kalim is surprised to find out that Silver could talk to animals. Others were surprised that this boy, who lived all his life on that island, was so well mannered and even knew how to write and read.

We get introduced to the Asim king and queen. The queen had a marvelous peacock(vil) who seems to be suffering of some illness.

Silver proves his worth by bringing Vil back to health.

Meanwhile, Lilia pleads his case and story to the royal couple. He was a war General from the thorn valley who wanted to know if his country was alright at least. Or if the war was over. He presented his old crest and his journal, which only proved more his credibility. His only goal now was to assure to his 'son' a good place where he could earn his keep fairly and have success, just how any parent wishes gor their child. The Asims see potential in Silver's abilities and so, they decide to hire him as an animal keeper after Lilia gets news of his country's status.

Silver didn't know about this exchange at all.

Meanwhile, he and Kalim bond together, Silver sharing his actual vast knowledge about different things. Jamil, Kalim's assistant, is always there too, gradually warming up to the idea of the 2 spending time together, Silver posed no harm to anyone.

Things tho, seem to get a bit wierd when Kalim is informed of an arranged marriage. His fiancé was Riddle, the son of the Queen from the queendom of roses.

Riddle was clearly not happy about it. While Mrs Rosehearts saw Silver as a thorn in her side of marrying her son to a rich kingdom heir.

Silver does get to bond a bit with Riddle, that being when the redhead says that he doesn't want to marry Kalim. Kalim was a great guy, but Riddle loved someone else. Silver says that maybe Riddle should follow his heart. This wasn't a matter of politics, but matter of love.

The 2 become friends too :D

Which is why when Riddle finds out of the plan of poisoning the wedding cake from his mother, he informed Silver about it, bailed him out of jail and admits that he wants to call off the engagement.

It is revealed that Levan managed to reach with his diplomacy mission in time and now there wasn't anymore war. :3

Silver is very conflicted about the bio dad reveal, but Lilia encourages him to try and give him a chance. It was revealed that initially silver was sent on the sea with his mother to protect him from the horrors of war. Like it was a very reasonable motive and no one could predict that the ship would sink with Silver as the only survivor.

But still, a happy ending :D

The sound of an annoying bird man was heard clear throughout the NRC halls, Crowley was assigning you for (another) a mission,he was starting to get more and more naggy day by day and it was getting very irritating.

Crowleys blabbering was fading away as you were starting to lose your temper, this man had the NERVE to give you more work after all you've done?? Nah that was not acceptable

VETE A LA MIERIDA HOMBRE CUERVO TE CORTARÉ LA CABEZA Y COMERLO HIJO DE PUTA " our dear prefect was yelling at Crowley, the whole nrc went quiet and stared at the scene that unfolded, everyone was shocked, riddle was having flashbacks to when HE lost his temper, cater and ace were cheering you on while Trey and deuce just watched thinking if they should stop it or not, if Leona was asleep then, he sure was not now, he was feeling proud, ruggie was laughing his ass off meanwhile Jack was preparing to calm you down; Azul was just shocked, his mouth was agape and stared at you with wide eyes, he did not expect that from you dear prefect, not in a bad way of course! Jade was enjoying the scene, finally something interesting has happened~ Floyd was cheering you on along with cater and ace "go Shrimpy!!" No one had ANY idea as to what you were saying but they know you were cussing that mf out, epel was taking notes before Vil covered his ears to which he protested at first but the glare on vils face shut him up,(same with Jamil and kalim) Rook was just as shocked as azul except also intrigued, Idia happened to pass by with his tablet and luckily he knew Spanish so he was surprised but was rooting for you (ofc ortho was made sure not to be around) I have no idea how Malleus heard about it, probably from Lilia, Lilia was cheering for you quietly while laughing, sebek also happened to be around at that time, carrying around a sleepy Silver who woke up to the sound of you yelling at the poor headmage, he was too sleepy to comprehend what was going on, sebek was kind of proud?? Like he yells all the time so GOOD JOB HUMAN NICE LOUD VOICE tho ofc no one does it as good as he does😍👌/j. so when malleus heard about it he was shocked too, tho he agrees as to why you got mad it only makes sense after all, perhaps he might have a chat with the headmage, tho I'm sure he won't be needing any of that, you scarred Crowley enough~

As for Crowley as malleus said he had never been this scarred, confused, surprised he was gonna scold you but...

gaming nights are a must! most of the times you'll both be in the same room because lilia thinks it's way more fun than talking through a call, and he is right! it is way more fun to have the person playint against you right by your side, the only bad thing is that lilia will try and distract you from your game so he can win, sometimes he'll start tickling you or flirting with you just anything that'll make you start paying more attention to him, however you have found a way to cut the distractions and distract HIM instead, play with the little wing like things in his hair he'll immediately start giggling and purring giving you a few seconds of advantage

Hi hi! I have a weird question/thought after seeing the talk about Idia's use of language. There are a lot of things that are just unable to translate from Japanese to English, and some things that get changed as short hand. The whole nerdy implications of Idia using "-Shi" are basically absent from EN, instead he seems to use "Mr." (If I recall correctly) which really doesn't give the same impression? In your personal opinion - is there anyway you'd personally localize it? Stick with the same? Remove it completely? Use "M'lady/M'lord" instead? (haha)

Hello hello!! I love your "M'lady/M'lord" solution more than I can say ♡ It is associated with the past while still being used by some people in present-day just for fun, which is just like how Idia speaks! That would have been so great for the English-language adaptation!

As you say, Idia's honorific for others has (kind of) been translated as "Mr." on EN, but only in a select few places.

For the most part it has just been removed, but the curious continuity makes it seem like he thinks that only Malleus, Azul, Grim and Riddle are (sometimes) worthy of "Mr." (the Riddle screenshots below are even both from the same vignette).

And then there is the Harveston sub-plot between Sebek and Marja, where Sebek refuses to refer to Marja with an honorific until she proves herself worthy of respect (by fixing his plushie).

At that point he awards her with an extremely respectful honorific (equivalent to "-sama," and the same word Silver uses with Lilia).

Marja, however, immediately gives him permission to refer to her in the same way he has been throughout the entire trip.

Idia is a psuedo-narrator for this sub-plot, commenting on Sebek's disrespectful way of speaking in both languages.

But on EN he then proceeds to refer to Marja in the same way as Sebek (and everyone else) does.

This has the unfortunate result of making Idia look odd for mentioning it in the first place, when the odd person is actually Sebek, as everyone else is using a respectful honorific with Marja.

Idia using "M'lady" and everyone else (except Sebek) using "Ms." probably would have been a lot more successful in getting the situation across to people who may not be familiar with such Japanese-language nuances!

As for what I personally would go with...this conundrum reminded me of this amazing joke by @anottercoffee on Twitter:

And I would be very tempted to go for the "fansubber" solution of translating everything literally, but just having the words doesn't mean that the players are going to understand the nuances, and might cause even more confusion.

If "-san" and "-senpai" are just mouth-sounds to someone, they're not going to understand the significance behind Riddle and Azul dropping it from Leona and Riddle's names in important moments, for example.

But maybe that's okay! Because at the moment, the alternative that we have is everything getting removed from everywhere, and no one has the chance to understand anything at all.

The best comparison I have come across is Lord of the Rings and Star Trek, where authors incorporated languages that are completely invented, giving no one any chance of understanding them.

Japanese is a language that already exists, so it seems like it would actually be less of a challenge to introduce world-specific terms like "-sama" and "-chan" for people to either glaze over as a world-building aspect that doesn't interest them, or to gradually adapt to through sheer repetition, so by the end of Book 6 they might have a greater-than-zero understanding of the nuances of a foreign language (much like another magic-school series did with Latin).

The manga is actually approaching the honorifics in a different way than the game and giving “Mr.” to everybody, so Azul’s “Riddle-san," Crowley’s “Trappola-kun” and Deuce’s “Diamond-senpai” are all now Mr. Rosehearts, Mr. Trappola and Mr. Diamond (more here).

So it seems that VIZ Media did not agree with Aniplex USA's localization?

What is going to be the most interesting is the novel! Slated for an August, 2024 official English-language release, the novel is also being overseen by VIZ Media.

This means that we might see "Mr." being used everywhere (to uphold continuity with the manga), but the novel goes much deeper into character relationships than the game, and relationships are what honorifics are all about.

Cater, for example, uses them with everyone:

“Usually, Cater does not ever yobisute anyone. When he calls to Trey, he always adds ‘kun’ to his name...When Cater uses Trey’s name like this, it is only when he is really serious. Only when it is important.” -Twisted Wonderland the first novel

Is Cater going to be calling Trey "Mr. Clover"? And how are they even going to localize these sections describing a feature of a language that is not being spoken? It gives us a lot to look forward to!

In the end, writing out Japanese-specific honorifics into English might actually cause more confusion than it's worth, which is why Twst (and so many other foreign-language-adapting-to-an-English-speaking-audience properties) has gone in the direction that it has.

I like to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they know more than we do about what is going on, and that there are important reasons behind the choices they have made.

But I also think that the sheer popularity of the "fansubber" approach to this situation is a good sign that maybe people are sometimes okay with not understanding things, as properties like Lord of the Rings and Star Trek have shown us!

While too late for Twst, it will be interesting to see how this situation continues to evolve in the years to come. Maybe, one day, we will even get an official localization that introduces honorifics directly!

If such an experiment fails it will be most expensive for the localizer, and money is likely a large factor behind why companies might be reluctant to take such a gamble and would rather play it safe and just have everyone say "Mr."

Now head has yan Silver thoughts.

Warnings: Yandere. Gender neutral reader.

I don't know what's up with my head that's suddenly thinking up of these ideas for these characters I don't particularly like, but I'm not really complaining. Anyways, I think Silver is a naturally soft yandere.

BUT imagine him falling in love with a very modern reader, someone who's very dependent on technology and likes to keep up with trends, which are things Silver doesn't understand much of. Also, imagine it being an unrequited love.

You just see Silver as a friend, a very amusing one at that. He's quite kind and loyal, despite not looking the part with his stoicism, and he stands out from the rest of the college students because of his personality. You might also think his oblivious and stubborn nature is sometimes funny. Even if you just see him as a classmate friend, Silver adores you.

It’s actually a bit endearing, because at first Silver was shy. He would watch you from afar with those eyes the color of a blue and purple dawn sky. Silver would take some time before deciding to approach you. Before he does so, he refrains from initiating interactions and simply watches you until his every waking and sleeping moment where his thoughts and dreams become infected by you.

You’re so strange to him but so charming. You and him are both human, but he was raised by fae who are very different. That’s why he’s not quite sure how to interact with you. It sometimes feels like you’re even talking in another language because you speak about so many modern things humans enjoy that he either hasn’t experienced or didn’t initially interest him before. However, once he eavesdrops on conversations and hears you talk about these subjects with such vigor, he begins to attempt to research them in the library in order to further broaden his understanding for you. When he cannot find answers in a book, he will inquire about it to Lilia. This is how he prepares for the first moment he interacts with you.

The first meeting was rather casual, just a brief chat in the line for food in the cafeteria. The young Diasomnia student happened to appear behind you in line when somehow a quick conversation about today’s lunch options began. You thought it would be a mere one minute chat, but then he asked your opinion one of your favorite subjects. It was certainly unexpected coming from this stranger who looked as stiff as a board and was weirdly unexpressive, especially since he just blurted out the topic after talking about the sandwiches available today. But the mention of the familiar topic immediately made you relax and eased you back into a smooth chat, mostly with you doing the talking at least until you reached the head of the line and bid your goodbye. What a strange guy, but he was nice! Silver, on the other hand, remained stiff until he got to a seat. Why was he nervous that entire time but happy right now? He had no reason to be nervous–– he didn’t get it. Someone help him work out his feelings and understand them.

Encounters and more conversations became common with Silver. He was a gentleman through and through, always calm and such a good listener while also volunteering to help you with minor things. When you walked with him, he always held the door open, he insisted on carrying your books, it even became routine for him to show up at your door unannounced to walk you to school (when he wasn’t escorting Malleus of course). It actually became a bit of a bother sometimes, because he was so stubborn and he appeared to take some of your actions the wrong way. You gave him a spare pencil, you let him walk you to school (you had no choice, he would walk with you anyways), you let him listen to you all the time, that must mean something, right? Did you like him too...? He really believed so.

It’s hard to reject Silver for two reasons: Silver being a genuinely good guy and seeing him sad made you feel guilty, and Lilia was there watching the situation unfold. Lilia only wanted his son to be happy, can’t you see that? Silver is so kind and respectful, why did you reject him? Go see Silver, he needs you to comfort him and take back your rejection, you won’t argue with Lilia on this will you~? It’s not like you have much of a choice when Lilia becomes involved. Don’t fret though, he won’t ever dream of hurting his son’s significant other, so long as you don’t break Silver’s little heart.
