Depiction of serious topics in writing
If you write a story I don't believe it to be necessary to write out entire rape, self harm scenes and such. For the lack of better words, it makes the whole act seems like something sensational rather than the terrible act that it really is. It isnt some weird plot device, it shouldn't be.
And if necessary I'd rather authors refer to such scenes or describe it in two lines rather than a whole 5 pages. I'm not telling authors to not write about people struggling with those tough issues, I'm just asking them to handle it with care. Something I've seen a lot of books to be lacking nowadays.
You can write a good story without feeling the need to extremely upset an entire audience and if you can write a good story/set a mood without writing in a 5 page rape scene or something like that, then it likely isn't that good of a story at all.
Also make trigger warnings mandatory thing with the synopsis would you, not everyone is aware of the fact those are easy to find online.

as a general rule. if what we’re calling ‘cultural appropriation’ sounds like nazi ideology (i.e. ‘white people should only do white people things and black people should only do black people things’) with progressive language, we are performing a very very poor application of what ‘cultural appropriation’ means. this is troublingly popular in the blogosphere right now and i think we all need to be more critical of what it is we may be saying or implying, even unintentionally.

...she made me see that there was and still is a sliver of hope. She made me realize that the choice to take therapy wasn't cowardice but rather brave, for it was a fresh start in the battle of reaching out for help to overcome fear and become your best self.

My mind raced when I attempted to open the box; it was locked. I lifted it to my eye level, scanning it thoroughly, looking for anything out of the ordinary. When I found nothing else but the odd-shaped lock at the center, my eyes narrowed in realization—this box was personalized specifically by her.

I inhaled deeply, my eyes fluttering close as the scent of her that still lingered in the air enveloped me in a cocoon of longing and despair.

❝To be in the face of death was something I never imagined happening to me at the age of twenty-one. But, terrified as I was, I couldn't put myself in a position to regret the decisions I've made these past months.
When life offers you the loveliest dream so far beyond your expectations, how do we face death with dignity and not despair?❞

When I see you, it's as if space and time between the finest point imaginable, as if time collapsed into one tiny speck and exploded at light speed. It's as if my universe begins and ends with you. I could run forever, search forever, but in the end, every path leads right back to your heart and soul. I love you, always. /cto

It doesn’t hurt anymore when I think about it. I just go numb. I’m numb a lot now, because I think about it a lot still.

““We didn’t have to end this way,” she thought to herself in the dark, “He could have just held me and told me to stay, he really could have just done that and this brokenness wouldn’t belong to me by then.” “But the thing is,” she looked at the crescent on the night sky, “He didn’t.””
