*Dedicated to @plumes-de-nuit. This'll definitely be the longest series yet. I... didn't realize I loved him so much.
*Also : R & Jacob & other love interests are 18. Jasper… y’all already know he ain’t a teenager.
*Edited:3
I stared out of the car window, watching as the trees passed by. Bella was beside me, and we were currently riding in dad’s police car. He’d picked us up from the airport, as we were moving here for our last few years - or, for me, a year - of high school. While Bella pitched the idea, I jumped in on it. I was eager to see the world, even if it was just Forks, after all these years. I had grown bored of Phoenix. Not just the weather, but the boys. There were no cute boys that I hadn’t already gotten or attempted to get with.
I also really wanted - no, needed to catch a break from mom’s strict rules. She thought I was a troublemaker just because I went out a lot and occasionally got detention.
Oh, and I’d literally follow my dearest sister to the ends of the earth. But I’d never tell her that.
It was already raining. I knew that Bella hated the rain, but I loved the new scenery.
Charlie pulled into the front lawn of a pretty standard house. It was white and green and is a two-story. I knew that it probably had a basement, though. In Phoenix, we had a flat one-story home surrounded by cactuses. I hated the weather, but I’d developed a darker tan for my s/c.
I stepped out of the back and raised my hands up the air. “Woohoo! Glad to be home.”
Charlie sent me a smile, appreciating the enthusiasm. Other people would see this scene as awkward, but that’s just how the family was. Bella was like dad, demure and introverted. And I was like mom, outgoing and extroverted.
Charlie insisted that he'd get our bags for us. I enjoyed the help, since I had a pretty hefty suitcase. Not to mention, I had a large backpack already strapped to my chest. Dad led us inside, allowing us to kick our shoes off, before showing us our rooms.
He must’ve been going off what he knew of us when we were younger, because I knew without a doubt that Bella’s favorite color was green. However, her room was themed purple. Mine, though, was perfect. I loved pink as a kid, and I loved pink now. Was just about to get settled in when Bella hovered in the doorway.
“Hey, some people are out front. Charlie’s calling us.”
I blinked in confusion, but trailed behind her. I was already starting to get comfy, throwing my clothes all over the room. However, I knew dad was a straight-to-the-point kind of guy. As Bella commented on the plane, 'One of the best things about Charlie - he doesn’t hover.’ It was odd wording, but I knew exactly what she meant.
As we exited through the front door, I threw an arm around Bella’s shoulders. Sitting by the side of the road was a rustic red truck. I could already tell Bella was eyeing it enviously. Yet, my attention was more fixated on an older man in a wheelchair and a former childhood friend who I recognized instantly. Jacob.
We made eye contact, and I immediately sent him a smile. He smiled back. I noticed how he’d grown his hair out and he was a lot more mature than he was a few years ago.
Charlie waved us closer. “Bella, Y/n, you two remember Billy Black.”
“Yeah!” I exclaimed, dashing forward to shake his hand. Bella seconded my statement, although in a much chill-er way.
“Wow, you’re looking good,” Bella commented.
“Well, I’m still dancing,” Billy replied with a chuckle. “I’m glad you’re both finally here. Charlie, here, hasn’t shut up about it since you told him you were coming.”
“All right, keep exaggerating. I’ll roll you into the mud,” Charlie muttered playfully.
Charlie took a few steps away, but Billy began wheeling after him. “After I ram you in the ankles!”
“You want to go?” Charlie bickered, and as they eased around, it left Bella and I with a chance to greet Jake.
“Jake! It’s been forever,” I cheered, pumping my fist into the air. His grin widened even further, and I opened my arms to welcome into a hug. He took it, quickly hugging, while Bella watched in amusement.
“Glad to see you’re just as energetic as ever,” Jake laughed. “How do you do it?”
“Lots and lots of coffee. And, of course, Bella’s here, too. Bella, you remember Jake, right? Or were you too tiny?”
Bella slapped my arm playfully. “You’re only a year older than me, geez. Yeah, I remember you, Jake. It’s great to see you again.”
Jake nodded to her. “Yeah, uh, we used to make mud pies when we were little.”
“Gross,” I commented.
Bella shook her head. “You weren’t as cool as Jake and I were. Eating mud is, uh, definitely a healthy past time.”
I crossed my arms, pouting playfully.  “I just have etiquette. I am the eldest out of you two, after all.”
Jacob looked at me incredulously. “By a few months.”
Bella tilted her head over to Charlie and Billy’s antics. “Are they, uh, always like this?”
Jake bared his teeth while nodding. “It’s getting worse with old age.”
Billy and Charlie finally joined us again. Charlie patted the truck. “So, what do you think?”
“Of what?” Bella asked in confusion. I stood behind her and wrapped my arms around her shoulder, peering at Charlie with equal bafflement.
“Your homecoming present.”
Bella’s jaw dropped. “This?”
Charlie shrugged. “Just bought it off Billy here.”
“Yep!” Billy seconded.
Bella detached to me, and we both went to hug the car. “Oh, my god!” I exclaimed.
“I totally rebuilt the engine for you,” Jake spoke up.
Bella was gasping for breath, and she hopped into the truck. “Come on, seriously? This - this is so cool! Oh my gosh!”
“This so-o-o perfect —“
“Actually,” Charlie interrupted, "your mom gave me a head’s up that you’re a reckless driver. This is Bella’s homecoming gift. Your’s is still inside.”
My jaw dropped. “Wh a-a-at? You’re kidding me! I’m the best driver in the world!” I huffed leaning against the car.
Charlie shook his head, chuckling. “Your mom informed me of how you had to retake your driver’s test more than two times. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your present inside a lot more. Besides, I’m sure Bella can drive you where you need to go.”
Jacob weaved around the front, laughing at my repugnance, and hopped in beside Bella to show her the works. I was left pouting while Billy and Charlie talked. I was only a little insulted that I wasn’t trustworthy enough to sit behind the wheel, but fair enough. I’d be satisfied as long as my gift was just as cool.
“I told you they’d love it,” Billy joked.
To be fair, though, I knew that Bella really loved cars. She’s loved them ever since we were kids. While I wanted to be a princess, she wanted to be a race car driver. Of course, both of our ambitions had changed, and now she planned on being a mechanic.
“I’m down with the kids!” Billy added, motioning ‘coolly.’
“Oh yeah, dude. You’re the bomb.” I snickered quietly at dad’s sarcasm.
I leaned into the open window when the car started up. “…Do you want a ride to school or something?” Bella inquired. I also wanted to know the answer.
“Oh, I go to school on the reservation,” Jake answered.
I pouted while Bella sighed, "Right, right. That’s too bad. It would’ve been nice to know one person.”
“You’ll be fine, Bella. I bet you’ll be friends with half the school by the end of first period,” I spoke up.
Bella laughed. “I’m pretty sure that’s you you’re talking about.”
I tilted my head innocently. “Oh, is it? I must’ve forgot.”
~~~
Bella and I hopped out of our new car. Technically her’s, since dad bought me a cool gaming console, but we’re sisters so I’d undoubtedly steal it from time to time. Luckily, the school year was just starting, so we couldn’t have stood out too much. Well, except for the fact that our truck was bright red. And my clothes were equally flashy. I loved being the center of attention, although I knew Bella loathed it. Somehow I wondered how we came out of the same vagina.
Bella and I walked side by side into the school. The weather was dreary and dismal, just how I liked it. We pulled out our respective schedules. Bella had been responsible and circled her’s, while I was only vaguely aware of what classes I’d signed up for.
Suddenly, a black haired, Asian student who was well dressed saddled up beside Bella. I dropped the schedule to my side, waving eagerly. “Hello!”
Bella jumped, meeting the boy’s gaze. “You two are the Swan sisters. The new girls,” he greeted. “Hi, I’m Eric, the eyes and ears of this place. Which of you is Isabelle and Y/n?”
“Bella, actually,” Bella tittered. “This is Y/n.”
I waved again, and the guy grinned charismatically. “Nice to meet you, Eric.”
“Anything you guys need? Tour guide, lunch date, shoulder to cry on?”
I could tell Bella was petrified. She could barely release coherent words from her lips. However, she needed to learn how to be socially inept. “Uh, I’m really kind of the more suffer-in-silence type. Y/n’s the one you should be asking.”
His gaze flitted over to me, and I switched hands, wrapping an arm around Bella. “Don’t mind her. She’s shy. A lunch date sounds great. Right, Bella?”
Bella nodded anxiously. Eric continued, not noticing her discomfort. “Good new for your feature. I’m on the paper, and you’re news, babies, front page. The title can be something freaky, like ‘opposites attract in the womb.’”
Bella looked utterly mortified. She halted in her steps. “Uh, no we’re not. I’m not. You… Please don’t have any sort of…”
“Woah, woah, chillax.” Eric waved his arm dismissively. “No feature. Unless you, Y/n, want one.”
I shook my head. “Nah, I’ll pass. It would be rather difficult to write an article and not mention my other half.”
“Cool, cool. Anyways, I’ll be off. See you two at lunch!” Eric really was off. He disappeared into the flood of people immediately, leaving me to Bella.
She exhaled anxiously and I patted her back before looking at my schedule. “P.E. What a grand start to my week.”
“Oh, thank god,” she sighed. “Me too. At least we share one class.”
I chuckled, grabbing her arm. “Let’s get going, then. I can’t wait to meet new people. Eric’s cool, but we - more so, you - need some gal pals.”
Bella sighed, allowing me to drag her off to P.E. I knew I wasn’t the best at sports, but Bella - she was god awful. I knew she’d make a few friends from just being an athletic train wreck. As much as I loved her, she was way too perfect. Athletics was certainly her downfall.
We walked into the gym and changed quickly. The uniform was cute, a quaint tank top and shorts. Bella specifically brought sweat pants from home, as I knew she had some body insecurities. I, though, was more than glad to show some leg.
We walked out, still attached to each other’s side. I immediately waved to two girls who were playing volleyball. They waved back, motioning for us to join their team. Class hadn’t started, but the students were clearly basking in the new school year energy. The pair of girls had just been playing, but we separated into teams after a brief introduction. Needless to say, it was Bella and I against Sabrina and Jules.
“Bella, get it!” I called, too far away to get the ball. I was carrying the team, pretty much two against one, while Bella lingered behind me.
She punched the ball, sending it into the net. I sighed, going to pick it up, while Sabrina and Jules said they were going to use the bathroom. That was code for them waiting a different partner. We waved them off. I picked up the ball and started making my way to Bella. Suddenly, a volleyball came flying past me and collided with Bella’s face.
Out of instinct, I burst into laughter, dropping our ball.
“Whoa!” a boy with dirty blonde hair exclaimed, running over to us.
Bella recovered, having caught the ball after it hit her face. She sent me a glare and threw it back at me, but I caught it, sending her a coy grin.
We both turned to the boy. He was slightly taller than both of us, and from his garb, he was probably on the school’s basketball team. “I’m so sorry about that,” he apologized, rubbing the back of his neck. “Basketball’s more of my forte, not volleyball.”
Bella stuttered, waving dismissively. I interrupted, "To translate, she means it’s fine. I’m Y/n, she’s Bella.”
“Yeah, hey, I’m Mike Newton.” He held out his hand for me to shake, which I accepted. I sent him a wink, mesmerizing him further. Bella clicked her tongue, coming up behind her and placing her forehead on my shoulder.
“More like Mike Haw —“
I was interrupted by a girl with light brown hair, hung in a pony tail. She skipped over to us, standing beside Mike. “He’s got a great spike, huh? I’m Jessica, by the way. Hey, you two are from Arizona, right?”
“Jessica, hi! You’re so pretty,” I answered, sending her a smile. “Yeah, we are.”
“Aren’t people from Arizona supposed to be, like, really tan?” She quickly corrected herself. “No offense, though, Bella.”
“None taken. Uh, yeah. Maybe that’s why they kicked me out. Y/n, uh, definitely got out more than I did.”
Both Mike and Jessica laughed, and I couldn’t help but snicker. Mike pointed while stating, "You’re good.”
“That’s so funny,” Jessica chimed in.
Bella held up her hands, waving, as she backed away. “Uh, nice to meet you. Y/n’s planning to teach my volleyball, now so…”
“Right. See you around, Arizona,” Mike directed, more so at me.
“Right back at you, Washington and Jessica!” I winked and let Bella drag me off the a more deserted area of the gym.
“They seemed nice,” I commented optimistically.
“…Sure. But boy, are people scary.”
“Girl, get used to it. I’ll indoctrinate you into my way of life whether you want to or not.”
~~~
“It’s my pleasure, madam,” Mike suavely eclair, having taken my tray for me. Bella trailed behind me, quiet and demure as always. Bell plopped down next to Jessica, while I situated myself between Mike and Eric due to unfortunate seating arrangements. Eric was previously droning on about some project, and our appearances interrupted the conversation.
“Hey, Mikey, you met my homegirl, Y/n, eh?”
I quirked a brow, while Bella waved to the girls.
“Oh, your girl, eh?” Mike hummed.
A laugh bubbled in my throat, but in that moment, a boy appeared beside me and planted a kiss on my cheek. I gasped as he declared, 'my girl,’ before dashing away. A blush rose to my cheeks, and Bella looked more than happy to not be in my situation.
Mike’s chair was pulled from under him and I covered my mouth in surprise. “Sorry I had to mess up your game, Mike!” he shouted as he disappeared amongst the other students. Mike took off after him, leaving me mentally exhausted.
“Oh-h-h my god,” Jessica gasped. “It’s like first grade all over again. You’re the shiny new toy.”
I clicked my tongue. “It’s shocking Bella isn’t getting the attention. I mean, just look at her! Absolutely stunning. Plus, she’s got brains.”
Bella laughed, waving dismissively. Suddenly, an Asian girl with glasses and her hair done up in a pony tail leaned across the table with a camera. “Smile!”
I was caught off guard, but grinned anyways and gave a peace sign. Bella shrank away instantly, making me lose focus since it made me laugh. The girl shrunk away, muttering out an apology. However, her gorgeous smile didn’t fade.
“I needed a candid for the feature,” she explained, plopping in her seat.
“The feature’s dead, Angelia,” Eric sneered, rather hardly. I quirked a brow. Eric rose to his feet and grabbed my shoulders, leaning over. “I got your back baby.”
I was glad that it was just us girls left and Eric went off to do whatever the hell he wanted. “It’s fine…? I’m starting to think all the guys at this school are crazy,” I chuckled.
Angela scoffed. “I guess we’ll just run another editorial on teen drinking.”
Bella spoke up, clearly feeling bad for causing drama. “You know, you can always go for… eating disorders. Or speedo padding on the swim team.”
“I vote the latter,” I eagerly remarked. I slid down the bench and took my rightful place beside Bella, now that the boys had disappeared.
“Yeah. Actually, that’s a good one,” Angela agreed.
“Kirk, right? That’s exactly what I thought,” Jessica gossiped. “We’re talking Olympic size.”
“There’s no way. He’s so skinny. It doesn’t make sense.”
“I mean, how big are his hands? You know what they say about big hands,” I teased.
The girls laughed, but I noticed that Bella’s attention was strewn elsewhere. I followed her gaze, seeing that a cliche of incredibly pale and insanely good-looking people walked into the cafeteria. I noticed that Bella was most focused on the latter, the one that wasn’t paired up. There was a blonde and black haired couple holding hands, an awkward guy and a hippy and slash or tomboy bickering, and the last was silent, seemingly just as fixated on Bella.
“Who are they?” Bella spoke up, nodding to them.
“The Cullens,” Angela answered.
“They’re Doctor and Missus Cullen’s foster kids,” Jessica continued in a hushed tone. “They moved down here from Alaska, like, a few years ago. They kind of keep to themselves.”
“Yeah, ‘cause they’re all together. Like, together-together.”
“The blonde girl, that’s Rosalie, and the big dark-haired guy, Emmet, they’re, like, a thing. I’m not even sure that’s legal.”
“Jess! They’re not actually related.”
“Yeah, but they live together! It’s so weird. They’re legally family. And, okay. The little dark-haired girl is Alice. She and Jasper, the guy who looks like he’s in pain, aren’t actually together. Apparently, Jasper has some anxiety problem or something.” I glanced back at them, noticing that even with how stoic Jasper looked, he was quite attractive. “Um, Doctor Cullen’s like this foster dad slash matchmaker.”
“Maybe he’ll adopt me,” Angela sighed dreamily.
However, that information wasn’t enough to satiate Bella. Her eyes were glued to the final assumed family member. “Who’s he?” Bella asked.
“That’s Edward Cullen. He’s totally gorgeous, obviously, just like Jasper, but apparently, like Jasper, nobody in this school’s good enough for him.” Jessica snickered dryly. “Like I care, you know? So… yeah. Seriously, though, Bella, Y/n. Don’t waste your time.”
“Wasn’t planning on it,” Bella chided.
“Well, I might. That Jasper fella’s pretty cute for a, and I quote, 'guy who looks like he’s in pain.’” Angela snorted, and I followed Bella’s gaze. I peered over my shoulder, seeing that her and Edward were making intense eye contact.
I couldn’t help but stare, and Jasper glanced over at us. I sent a smile, holding up my hand and waving. I noticed his mouth twitch before Alice stole his attention away. I returned my attention to the table to see that Jessica and Angela were both looking at me.
“Don’t tell me you just waved at him,” Jessica gasped. “You’re seriously wasting your time. You know that, right? What, are the guys falling at your feet not good enough?”
Bella clicked her tongue, and Angela teasingly followed up, "You’re totally a player.”
“Wha-a-at? No. I’m just friendly,” I chimed. “Besides, I’m not interested in guys like that. I have no idea why I’m the ‘shiny new toy’ when Bella’s right here.”
“It’s because I don’t make a scene,” Bella noted.
“Well, Jessica, if you’re asking if I’m interested in Eric or Mike, definitely not. I’m not blind, girl. Mike’s for you, dearest girl, and Eric’s obviously into Angela.”
Angela gasped. “You really think so? But he’s never been that friendly or flirty with me.”
I shook my head. “Nonsense. He’s just trying to make you jealous.”
Jessica laughed. “And what about Tyler?”
“Who?”
“The guy who kissed you on the cheek earlier.”
I scrunched up my nose. “No-o-o way, José. I know a cute guy when I see one, and Tyler’s not it. Jasper, though… He’s definitely my type.”
“Well, good luck. They barely talk to anyone outside their clique,” Angela sighed. “Believe me, we’ve all tried to talk to them.”
“It’s because they’re all freaks.”
I frowned, but in that moment, an arm wrapped around my shoulder. I looked up, seeing that Eric and Mike decided to rejoin the group. Eric attempted to steal the seat beside me, but Mike shoved him aside, sliding beside me with ease. He threw his arm around my shoulder, shaking me excitedly.
“Not at all, actually. And give it up, guys,” Jessica groaned. “She already has her he’s on the prize. And before you chase Bella, she’s enamored by Edward Cullen.”
“We’ve returned. I’m sure you all were dying for us to bless you with our presence,” Mike announced.
“Dream on,” Eric sighed. “Ne-e-ever going to happen. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them talk to anyone but each other or the teachers.”
Mike removed his arm and Eric sighed. “Damn, really? Oh, you’re breaking my heart, baby.”
“I’m not like my sister,” Bella tittered. “I just… think he’s interesting.”
Bella unsurely glanced over her shoulder. I did so as well, noticing that Alice and Jasper were chatting while looking at our table. Japer’s gaze flitted over to mine, and he raised his hand, giving me a curt wave and smile. My heart jumped in joy and I grinned.
Mike wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me closer. My expression immediately morphed into a displeased pout. I directed a glare him way, and he teasingly remarked, "Hey, I’m not going down without a fight.”
I shrugged off his shoulder. “Have fun with that, buddy.”

If anyones still reading, I just want to say Conjunction is NOT abandoned 🥲 In fact, Chapter 5 already has 4000 words but at this point it’s been so long since I updated that I feel bad and thus have kept/will keep writing until I’m satisfied it’s a nice meaty chap with a narratively sound conclusion. However! Please let me know if your preference as a reader is for me to post what I’ve got that’s refined now or if you’d rather wait (not for long!) for an even longer chapter- I want what the people want!

Some of you encouraged me to write this, so I'll try with Edward Cullen! Definitely the easiest pick out of the nasty trio, at least for me! Apologies if this sucks, I tried my best! It sucks so bad lmaooo

The quiet pattering of the gentle rain on the school window had slowly started to take its toll on you. Nature's sweet lullaby was being sung right next to you, the sound of the white chalk being pressed against the old blackboard and the voice of the clearly tired teacher was more than enough for your eyes to get droopy. With an arm pressed against your cheek, you blankly stared at the front of the classroom, barely faking any interest in the lesson. Truth be told you had forgotten in what class you were in, let alone what lesson you were supposed to be learning. All you could think about was how badly you wanted to sleep and that you couldn't wait until you got home. You couldn't wait for the bell to ring, to finally be released from this prison. The welcoming darkness had slowly started to embrace you, lulling you into a sense of the familiar comfort of sleep, only for the hairs at the back of your neck to stand up straight, forcing you to blow your eyes open.
A strange sense of unease washed over you, promptly forcing you to look around the classroom. Much like yourself, all of your peers were lost in their own world, just praying for the darn bell to ring already. Letting out a shaky sigh of relief, you once again turned your head to the front of the class, remaining totally oblivious to the young man at the back of the class.
You were really cute when you were trying to concentrate, did you know that? He'd never tell you that to your face though. He was surprised to see that you didn't manage to catch him in the act, as he would often stare at you. He couldn't help himself, you tempted him with every breath you took. He could smell your sweet blood from the other side of the classroom, he could practically feel your soft lips against his own but he resisted. You two lived in two totally different worlds and he was okay with that. For now, he was just going to settle with watching you from afar, his feelings forever growing in his never changing heart.

platonic!volturi queens letter for a young teenager around their teens?
Our Precious (Name),
You have no idea what your very existence means to my sister and I. Our own existence became nothing but stagnant and lifeless, even more so then we already were. Then you came along; an innocent little thing simply on a school trip to Volterra.
You were so free. So lively. Your mere presence reminded us both of our dear Didyme. Once we lost her, we also lost a part of ourselves as well. But you, you make us feel alive again. Alive and complete. We could not possibly bare the thought of parting with you, not after we regained so much of what was taken from us.
Aro and Caius were apprehensive and not accepting of the idea of keeping you, but my sister and I were allowed to be happy. We deserved that much after being forced away into hiding. But do not worry, we will not let them bring any harm to you.
No. You are ours after all. Our precious little Y/n.
Having been locked away has made us more impatient then usual, we must apologize for that. But we can not chance losing you, not like our late Didyme. Therefore, Sulpicia and I agreed to have you changed right away. We will see it through, beginning to end. And do not fret, the pain will subside soon enough.
Once you awaken we will be right by your side, for all eternity.
Yours Truly,
Athenadora

When the Mate Bond Fails - A yandere!Felix x vampire!fem!reader x yandere!Demetri Imagine
A/N: The story where I attempt to 'explore' the 'yandere' theme
A/N 2: This is a quite personal story, inspired by the barely-one month I worked.
A/N 3: This is a quite fictional story but the details regarding the hotel's operations were real(istic).
A/N 4: The characters mentioned are very much real, and the hotel was actually part of a resort with 4 other hotels close by, so the chaos was out of the roof.
A/N 5: Though the reader is a vampire, so it's 'designed' to be perfect, the reality of the job included a lot of emotional, and mental abuse (and physical, if doing things that are not supposed to be part of the job count)
A/N 6: (Y/N/N) = your nickname
A/N 7: Most likely cringey
A/N 8: Also, I did like M. Unfortunately, nothing happened between us irl
No. of Words: 9300+ (the longest one-part I've ever written, so brace yourselves)
Mentions of: Smut, Abuse, R*pe, Beating, Trauma, PTSD, Manipulation, Swearing, Stockholm syndrome-like behavior

Working in the 'extremely demanding' tourism industry was never easy when you had several "needs". Whether it was dietary needs, medical needs, or personal needs, all these had to be set aside for as long as you were supposed to be working, which could range from an average of 8 to 10 hours per day, depending on your job position. And that was what it was like for humans.
Being a vampire was a different case though. Most days, it was really hard when you were constantly surrounded by people, either colleagues or guests. Creatures full of delicious blood walking around all day long, while you had to control yourself to not jump on them and end them right then and there.
I, personally, was at a point where I could easily control my thirst for human blood, though that wasn't always easy. It wasn't just the high possibility of someone getting hurt in any way; it was also the constant contact with humans around.
Just their mere presence triggered my thirst, and I was forcing my vampire instincts to calm down before I ended up killing someone around me. Though, many of the guests’ or managers’ behavior really made me question how long would I be able to control myself from not ending them.
However, I was good at my job. I assisted people successfully and helped them with whatever they needed. Most of the time, I went out of my way to make sure every guest was satisfied, whether they had an absurd request or not. I was warned by a colleague to not be so willing to help others because they would take advantage of my willingness to help. I learned that plenty of times, but I didn’t mind when I had extra time and nothing else to do.
In contrast to my colleagues, I wasn't too “demanding” so to speak. I didn't need a bathroom break or a lunch break, or even a smoke break, because of my nature. I was only set to work around the reception and lobby, making sure everything was working appropriately, then return to the place I had rented a few days before I started working, and then see how the rest of the night would go by.
Usually, my colleagues would either go to their rooms, eat, get ready to sleep and finally go to bed, or go out for a few hours to have a drink; it all depended on their work schedule for each specific day.
However, while the other employees around the hotel would return to their room where they would stay with random roommates, I couldn't handle staying in a small motel-like room with 2 or 3 more people, let alone 4 or 5 or 6, as it was in some cases.
I needed my space and privacy. I couldn't risk exposing myself to my potential roommates by getting caught drinking blood or not sleeping at all or slipping away at odd hours to go out hunting. So, renting my own place was a no-brainer.
Thankfully, money was also not an issue. Just like other vampires before me, we didn’t attack people just for their blood; we also needed their money, so we stole that as well. It was the only way to survive as a nomad vampire, not staying in one place, but still depending on the modern-life ways of exchange to somehow blend in and not draw unnecessary attention.
Even as a vampire who had been alive for quite some time, the days working at the hotel were passing by torturously slow. I was used to the constant nagging by now; it didn’t bother me, and I didn’t let anything or anybody go through me anymore. The fact that "the guests were demanding because they were paying a lot of money" did not affect me any more than it did in the beginning. After all, I got paid a specific salary and the tips were getting less, and rarer as time passed and more money-conscious guests visited the hotel.
If I didn’t need that extra money for myself, I wouldn’t have even started working there. It wasn’t like it was a lot of money anyway. That’s what the guests thought at least - that we were paid fairly or extra money, and that we could use the facilities around the hotel for free, or, at least, with a discount.
That was far from the truth; not only were we not given discounts, but we also couldn’t use anything around the hotel, and the money we were paid was barely enough for the average human to survive. Add the fact that we had to work 6 days per week, 8 and a half hours a day at least, while our employment papers said 40 days per week. It was a total fraud, and totally unfair towards the employees.
I wouldn’t talk about myself, as my only issue was not feeding frequently enough, but I had seen many employees and colleagues get dizzy or even faint because of the working conditions. No matter the weather - hot and humid, or cold and humid, we were not allowed to show any emotions of how we actually felt; we could only smile for the guests to feel welcome and comfortable around.
Working there made me start questioning my sanity. I felt as if I held a huge weight down my chest that should have not been there. And because my colleagues had very limited human lives, it wasn’t as if we went out at all. We were all living away from each other, as far as 20 kilometers away from the hotel.
Some had to take the small bus provided by the hotel that took half an hour to get them close to where they lived, but still not close enough. Others depended on their own transportation means; some of my colleagues at the reception, who lived close to each other or close enough, would share vehicles to cut down the costs because it was too expensive to drive to and from work every day.
And yet, it seemed to be the only feasible way for them to move around. The distance between someone’s place and the hotel was already far enough, even if you lived at the nearest village which was over 10 kilometers away. It just wasn’t worth it, so people tried to find ways around it.
So, we never did anything all together; the distance, the different time schedules, and human exhaustion prevented us from getting together and having fun, even if I had to pretend I drank like a normal human being would.
However - and I didn’t expect that - for the most part, there was “esprit de corps”, solidarity between colleagues. We all understood that we were in this together, and we tried to support and back up each other whenever possible.
There were, of course, times where the more experienced colleagues would put the newer ones - including me - aside, thinking that we could not handle something; that we could not take the responsibility. It bothered me at first, but then, I understood; sometimes, you had to take the extra step instead of someone else, just to make sure that the job was done. Because, at the end of the day, no one cared about you; they only cared about getting the job done.
However, after a few months of working there, my colleagues started to open up to me more, and whenever we had nothing to do in particular - unless a guest suddenly popped by to pay a bill, or ask a question, or book an activity or a restaurant, we had a good time telling jokes, making fun of each other, whining about the guests, and whatever happened at that time.
Usually, the afternoon shifts were the most fun, as the closer we got to midnight, the more my human colleagues were getting tired and their heads fuzzier, and that resulted in many “crazy” conversations and jokes, to the point where we would laugh loudly. Thankfully, there were hardly any guests in the lobby, and the few that were there were enjoying a drink from the main bar and didn’t particularly seem to mind our laugh.
As time passed and I became friendlier with my colleagues, there was one particular colleague who had triggered my interest. M. was austere most of the time, really focused on his job, and he seemed really experienced. He was like everyone else around - he decided from an early age that he wanted to work in hospitality and he worked his way up to get where he was right now.
I, on the other hand, before I became a vampire, didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. It was much later that I went to college for a Bachelor’s and then a Master’s. I had to think very carefully about what I wanted to do before I finally decided what I would do. And I was still not entirely happy with what I chose for me, but, thankfully, I had all the time in the world to make choices and changes in my life, while my human colleagues didn’t.
But M... M. was different. Different than any human or vampire I had ever met. He was willing to teach me and the other “newbies” everything we needed to know for the job - that was, of course, if he didn’t have to do anything around. He may have been austere, serious, and emotionless when it came to work stuff, but he was really understanding and supportive when needed.
One afternoon shift, it was just the two of us. One colleague got sick and had to leave early into our shift, so it was just the two of us working around for a few hours after the others left until we could hand everything over to our colleague on the night shift.
For some reason, I wasn’t feeling like myself. I was usually so good at not showing my feelings, but that day started so badly. I wasn’t hungry or anything - I had fed 2 days ago, and I was doing fine. But something in me kept telling me that something bad was going to happen.
I wasn’t gifted with - subjective - precognition like Alice was, but I could still sense that something was wrong. My own gift of visual and physical illusions helped me seal my identity from the humans but sometimes turned against me, making me unable to differentiate between reality and illusions. So, I could only attribute this feeling to my gift turning against me, making me feel things that were not there.
At some point, I could not focus on my job at all. Thankfully, no guest came to the reception and no phone rang, so I excused myself for a few minutes, walking - not running because we weren't allowed to - as humanly possible as I could to the back room where usually receptionists and grooms would sit for their break or drink water or smoke or chat. I sat down at the only chair available there, hanging my dizzy head low, between the palms of my hands. I felt venomous tears running down my face, leaving tiny cracks, which only I could hear, on their path.
I must have been back here for more time than I thought because M. was now kneeling in front of me, asking how I was. I lifted my head a bit to see worry written all over his features, something that I had never seen before in him. Then again, he had never seen me upset, crying, or taking a break.
He was whispering things but I couldn’t put my head together to understand what exactly he was saying. I felt small sparks all over my cold, undead body when he touched my hands to force me to look at him and calm down. He tried to wipe away my tears, but I stopped him before he burned himself. And in a moment I would have never expected, he leaned closer and kissed me.
The sparks turned into fireworks, and my body came alive, my mind cleared up, and I finally felt peace. While there was always something occupying my mind and thoughts, at that moment, I felt like nothing else mattered but the man before me.
As our lips moved around, I slowly started letting my guards down, until I realized that if he saw my true self, my red eyes, and “vampiric beauty”, as my kind would call it, he would most likely freak out, and everything would be ruined.
I pulled away slowly to look back at him. His face was his usual dark pink but this time, it was even more prominent than any other time, and, even though I didn’t want to openly admit it, it made him so much cuter than he usually was.
His eyes - a perfect mix of blue and green, sparkling more than I had ever seen them all this time - were moving around, trying to understand why I was silent and what I was feeling. I erased any doubt he may have had by pecking him on his lips before I pulled away once again.
“Let’s get back to work, okay?” I told him calmly, as I stood up from the chair.
My mind was finally in order and I could continue work as usual. But I could also feel as if my heart was beating once again, after all this time. He managed to do that to me; he made me feel things I didn’t remember existed. Some time ago, I may have felt something like that, but this time, it felt more genuine and strong; it felt right.
M. did not say anything, but nodded his head, and followed me back to the reception. The rest of the shift went by fairly slowly; the only thing that drew my attention was M.’s rapid heartbeat. It wasn’t the phones ringing, or the guests who passed by the reception to either ask a question, or make a complaint, or book something, or pay their bills; it was his mere presence and his heartbeat that I could only focus on.
I didn’t realize when our colleague came by for the night shift, but I was glad because it meant we only had half an hour until the shift ended. Usually, in those 30 minutes, we would give a briefing of what the night auditor had to look out for, in terms of guests leaving early, or needing to be woken up early, and so on.
But this time, M. dismissed me earlier, claiming that he had everything under control. I asked him if he was sure, if he was absolutely sure, and he insisted everything was okay, and that he would inform S. about what needed to be taken care of.
I thanked him, wished both of them goodnight, and went upstairs to the female changing room to get out of my uniform and back to my own clothes. Usually, by this time, most of the employees around the hotel were gone, so I could let myself free.
I walked in front of the mirror, letting my guards down, now staring at my dark red eyes. It was one of the few times that I looked at myself in the mirror and thought that I wasn’t the monster somebody else turned me into. I did drink human blood, but I wasn’t doing it for fun; I was doing it for survival.
And now, I liked, I really liked one particular human, and I was not feeling like I was a monster. I was actually feeling like somebody actually liked me, and that alone gave me so much assurance, confidence, and happiness. It was like my heart, body, and mind were starting to feel alive again; that I wasn’t just an undead person, but I had substance.
I wasted no more time, getting ready as quickly as I could before someone else decided to come in here. I got out of the monotonous, beige dress, and beige-pink flat ballerinas, and into my usual leggings, t-shirt, and white sneakers.
I was dressing really plainly for a vampire; no fancy dresses or capes or whatever. Blending in was important, but comfort and how easy it would be to get rid of your clothes also played a major role in what I chose to wear. I finally grabbed the backpack that I always carried with me, locked my locker, and exited the room, heading downstairs, and out of the building.
It was about 10 human minutes walking distance to the parking where we left our cars, and, though it was almost midnight, that did not mean that there were no humans around. So, I would still have to walk as slowly as possible - as slowly as the average human would walk. However, just before I could leave, I heard my name being called.
“(Y/N)! Do you mind waiting for me? It will take a few minutes.” M. asked me, still in his work shirt and trousers, and I just nodded my head, letting him know that I’d be waiting outside for him.
He didn’t take long, walking out the door a few minutes later, still in his work clothes, with his own backpack on his back. “Thanks for waiting. I still had a few things to take care of.” He smiled slightly; his heartbeat was once again deafening to my vampire ears.
“Thank you for letting me leave earlier.” I smiled back at him, walking forward along with him.
“Yeah, there was nothing else to tell S. anyway. Besides, I’ve never seen you like…, you know, so I got worried. Are you feeling better now?” His voice sounded genuinely concerned.
“Yeah, thank you, you know, about being concerned for me.” I was never as awkward in front of a human as I was now with M., and I really didn’t know why. He wasn’t even my supposed ‘blood singer’; I would have figured that out on the very first day.
“Yeah, about that. I’m really sorry I kissed you. I didn’t think clearly, and it came out of nowhere. I am really sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable. I really didn’t mean to.” He looked down at his shoes, his face was getting more red by the minute; something that would go undetectable to the human eye, because of how little light the few lamps around provided.
But I could see everything clearly. I smiled at M.’s awkwardness; he was much cuter than I originally thought, and it made something in me clench slightly; a feeling that I had never experienced so intensely before.
I smirked at his awkward state, a small wave of confidence washing over me. “I really did not mind it at all. I was actually hoping you would sometime before we left from here.”
M. lifted his head, looking hopefully at me, his mouth slightly agape with a slight smile. “Really?”
“Really.” I reassured him, lifting my hand to caress his cheek. He put his own hand on top of mine, turning his head around to kiss my palm - an act that no one had ever done before.
I was now more assured that this man felt things for me, so I did what I wished I had done from the very beginning: I grabbed his face with both hands, bringing him closer to me, and kissing him passionately. He seemed a bit taken aback, but responded quickly by holding my face between his own palms, kissing me with more passion than I had ever imagined.
It felt as if we were on our own, living in our own little world. It felt like fireworks had filled the dark night sky, and everything around us was bright and warm. His heart was beating like crazy, and I swore mine would have too if it was beating at all. His face was burning, and heat radiated from all over his body.
Our kiss lasted a few minutes before it was interrupted by a golf cart passing by. The groom driving the cart, L., had become a friend of mine as well, along with others around the hotel. He didn’t say anything, but smirked lightly, waving us goodnight, before driving towards the reception to continue his night shift.
Now, it did become a bit awkward. Thankfully, we were close to the parking lot so this awkwardness would be over soon. We walked silently towards the parking area, but before we turned towards the road, M. turned around and awkwardly waved me goodbye.
“Wait! You won’t leave in your car? I thought you and D. shared his car to work.” I was confused. Usually, if they had different shifts, one of the two would come here by D.’s car and would leave by bus, as the other came with the bus and left with the car.
“Well, yeah, but D. has a day off tomorrow, so he went back home with the car. I’ll just wait for the bus.” He pointed towards the wooden gazebo-like structure where employees of the hotel would wait under for the bus to arrive.
“That’s nonsense. Come on, I’ll take you home. I’m with my car.” I motioned him to follow me, but he seemed reluctant.
“Are you sure? Don’t you live, like, far away from me? I’m not anywhere near your route. No one actually is, to be honest.” He shrugged his shoulders.
“That’s no problem for me, honestly. Come on. Would you really like to go by bus?” I looked at him as if he was mad.
“Honestly? No. Okay, if it’s okay with you.” He smirked, looking down.
I laughed at his awkwardness and motioned him to follow me to my car. When we reached my car, it was his time to laugh, and I knew why.
“Seriously? A Volvo? A Volvo SUV?” He let out a choked laughter.
It was kind of an inside joke by now. There were a few Volvo SUVs around the hotel because the suites were offered a Volvo transfer service for free. Plus, many guests and high-ranked managers came here with their own Volvos, so they were not uncommon around. However, it was a pain in the ass when guests who had not booked suites wanted the Volvo transfer service, and we had to explain to them that it was not included as a complimentary service for their room.
“It’s a thing a friend and I have. He has always been so obsessed with Volvos, so I once bought one as a joke. But they are really fine actually, so next time I bought a car, I bought a Volvo again, so there it is.” I showed the car as evidence. Truth was that Edward was that friend, but M. did not need to know the details.
“Cool.” He nodded, smirking slightly before I motioned him to get his stuff in the car and get in.
Thankfully, it was a cool night, and the car was not too hot or too cold for both of us to feel comfortable - well, I mostly wanted M. to feel comfortable. Cold or hot temperatures were not an issue for vampires; our bodies were not affected by either, so it did not matter to us. We only hated the sunlight if it was to expose our identity to humans, and, thankfully, I didn’t have that issue.
M. did not say much during the whole route, and I didn’t know if it was because he was scared of how fast I drove through the dark, narrow roads, or if he did not have anything to say. His heartbeat was still pretty loud in my ears, and it seemed like his heart skipped a few beats. Without giving it a second thought, I placed my hand on his. His heartbeat did not slow down significantly, but it became more steady and rhythmic compared to a minute ago.
“I like you, you know. I think it took me a few weeks to realize it when you first came here, but I needed to be sure that that is how I feel for you. And now I am sure that I like you. I wanted to kiss you from the moment I knew, but I was scared. And when you started crying tonight, I felt something in me break. I hated seeing you like this.”
His confession came out of the blue, but it warmed my heart in a way I never felt before. As a response, I only squeezed his hand; not enough to break it, but just enough for him to know that I felt the same for him. This man that I knew for such a little time made me feel feelings of pure love and adoration. I wish he was my mate, but fate had already chosen that, and pretty unsuccessfully I might say. Still, I didn’t care about that; M. was the one I actually wanted.
So, I didn’t think about it when I stopped the car in the middle of nowhere and practically jumped on his lap, kissing him hard on the lips, and then down his jawline and neck. I could feel the blood pumping in his veins under my cold lips, but my thirst for his blood could not compare to the thirst I had for his body. He moaned loudly under my touch, and that gave me more confidence to continue.
I was careful not to rip his clothes in the process, but, at the end of the night, I had to admit that it was the best sex I had in my life. It wasn’t just plain, old sex; it had so much love, passion, and adoration - things I had never experienced before in sex. Most vampires I’d been with preferred rough sex over passionate love, and all the humans I had ever sex with ended up as my meal. But not M.; M. was special to me.
After we were done, we stayed in the car for about an hour or two, just talking about everything and anything, while we lay in each other’s arms. I was careful to not reveal too much, or things that may have sounded suspicious to the human ears. But still, I felt like I could share my soul with M., which had never occurred to me before with someone else.
However, I knew that he needed to get some sleep, so I urged him to get ready so I could drop him off at his room. He smiled at me, his eyes glistening, and he caressed my cheek before he leaned forward to peck my lips. We got ready quickly, and I started the engine again.
About 5 minutes later, I dropped him off at his room, giving him a goodnight kiss before I drove back to my own room, to think about everything that happened tonight, and how lucky I was to have found him.

The next days were passing by unexpectedly good. M. and I tried to be as discreet as we could at work, and we were pretty successful at that. We would occasionally look at each other knowingly, but apart from that, we didn’t show anything that could potentially go noticed by our colleagues and managers.
However, I would drive M. back to his room every day, except for the times when we had different work schedules and our shifts did not allow us to leave work together. Most times we returned together would end up in passionate sex in the car, or his room, when his roommates were not around.
I was hesitant to let him stay in my room, mostly because my fridge was stuffed with bottles full of blood, for when I was not in the mood to go hunting. Also, the fact that I could not sleep at all would look suspicious to him, and, as much as I wanted to tell him the truth, I was scared of how it would affect him and what we had.
We were not officially together, but I didn’t mind. So far, I had learned that no good thing could last forever, so I had better enjoy something while it lasted. And while I wanted what M. and I had to last forever, I knew that the possibilities of that happening were slim to none.
Those fears were confirmed a few days later. In the beginning, everything seemed normal; it was a typical day of sweet, bitter, and annoying guests - nothing new. It was a few minutes after 10 pm, and we still had 2 arrivals left, but no specific time as to when they would arrive. We were informed that they were ‘special guests’, friends with the owner of the hotel, so receiving top service was vital.
Thankfully, they had booked two suites right next to each other, so it wasn’t our own responsibility. All the suites were the responsibility of the “personal concierge” department, and they were responsible for everything regarding the suites’ guests - from greeting the guests upon their arrival to arranging their restaurant reservations, and from booking them transfers to arranging simple requests, such as room service and cleaning.
That was a huge weight lifted off our shoulders when we were informed that we wouldn’t have to worry about these arrivals, which would come together, as H., the personal concierge manager, would work overtime tonight, just to make sure these two arrivals were met with the highest standards the moment they stepped foot in the hotel. That allowed D., M., and I to continue working undisturbed, assisting the other guests.
H. was sitting at the personal concierge desk, waiting for the phone to ring. Every time guests would arrive, we received a phone call to the reception from the ‘welcome lounge’ where they would greet guests who arrived. They were also the ones we called when a suite wanted a Volvo transfer, as the drivers would park outside of the welcome lounge, ready to drive to, or pick up guests from wherever they were.
They were the showcase of the hotel, and, as they say, ‘first impressions matter’, so they had to be just as professional and helpful as anyone else, getting to know the guests a bit, and make sure everything was in accordance before a golf cart brought the guests down to the reception building.
It was 10:30 pm already, and H.’s nerves were growing more by the minute. Finally, a few minutes later, the phone at the reception rang.
“Good evening. Reception. This is (Y/N) speaking. How may I assist you?” Though I knew it was the welcome lounge, I would say this little ‘poem’ with my sweetest voice, no matter who it was at the other end of the line.
“Hey, (Y/N). This is P. talking. Mr. Romano and Mr. De Lio just arrived. Inform H. to come by and greet them.”
“Of course, P. I will inform him. Thank you very much. Goodbye!”
“Goodbye!” P. hung up, and I ended the call, walking to the Personal Concierge desk to inform H.
Though we were literally a few meters away from each other, we were not allowed to shout at the other. We would either have to call or walk there and since the personal concierge was technically closed by now, there was no point in calling, because the call would return back to the reception.
“Hey H., P. just called. Your arrivals are at the welcome lounge.”
“Thank you, (Y/N). Let’s just get done with this.” H. was quick to leave the reception, getting on a cart and driving up to the welcome lounge to meet the guests in person.
What I would have never expected was for H. to come by the reception a few minutes later, followed by the ‘guests’ - those specific ‘guests’. After these few years of freedom that I got to cherish but not enjoy fully, there they were, right in front of me. Demetri and Felix. If I had a single drop of blood in my body, it would have frozen by now, to match the rest of my body.
I could not believe they were here. I could not believe they found me. The moment they stepped foot in the lobby, they were looking right into my eyes; their own dark brown eyes - the result of lenses - betrayed how evil they truly were, as if to say ‘we got you now, and you cannot run away anymore’. They were smirking as if to say they knew they got me trapped somewhere and I wouldn’t be able to escape them.
This brought back memories of days when they were abusive and cruel towards me if I did anything they wouldn’t agree with. Just the mere thought of me looking at someone else besides them, or going anywhere on my own, without their presence nearby, would result in beatings and unwanted, non-consensual sex, just to prove to themselves that I belonged to them, no matter what.
I didn’t realize how much time had passed of me staring at the two vampires in front of me until I felt M.’s hand touching mine, behind the desk, so no one else in front of us could see, but D., who already knew what was going on between M. and I. D. was M.’s friend and roommate, so he was informed about our relationship, but didn’t make a big deal out of it at work.
Still, though M.’s touch calmed me down a bit, Felix’s piercing eyes and low growl terrified me, and I let go of M.’s hand, muttering ‘sorry’ to the man I loved. I heard Demetri whispering something to Felix’s ear, and I couldn’t believe it, until they turned to speak to H. who stood up and came by the reception desk.
“(Y/N), Mr. Romano and Mr. De Lio would like you to do the check-in for them. They seem quite demanding, but don’t worry. I’ll be right beside you if you need anything.” H. seemed kind of terrified or taken aback by their request.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t do anything but do as they requested, as they may have been my worst nightmare, but in this case, they were guests in the hotel I worked at and their needs had to be met no matter what. I took an unnecessary breath and walked out of the reception desk area towards the couches in the lobby area, where the two vampires were sitting, walking alongside H. who seemed more reserved than any other time.
“Good evening, Mr. Romano, Mr. De Lio. My name is (Y/N). I believe you requested my presence here.” I tried smiling as best as I could without trembling, and without showing the others that I was actually terrified of the two men before me.
“Hello, (Y/N). It’s been so long since we saw you last time.” Demetri was smirking lightly, like a lion looking at his meal before devouring it. “How have you been?”
“I’m really sorry. I didn’t know you all knew each other.” H. was trying to be overly friendly, as they all did with the guests, but his cluelessness made him kind of unsure about the situation unwrapping in front of him.
“Yeah, I used to live in Italy a few years ago.” More like 30 years ago. “That’s where I met Mr. Romano and Mr. De Lio.”
“Please, no need to keep all these formalities between old friends, and, we’re hoping, new friends, as well. I’m Venusto. Nice to meet you, H.” Felix reached his hand out to shake H.’s hand.
“And I’m Salvatore. Nice to meet you too.” Demetri, in turn, reached his hand to shake H. who, by now, must have realized how cold they both were, as he unintentionally shivered a bit.
So, they both found fake names, made fake documents, and decided to travel here. For what? Why would they even bother to come and see me now? Unless..
“I am really sorry, gentlemen. I forgot. We need your passports and your credit cards for the check-in, so we can have you in our system and make your stay comfortable and pleasant.” H. mentioned pretty late, as it was usually the first thing we told guests when they came into the lobby.
“Yes, of course.” Demetri smiled happily, clearly full of sarcasm, as he and Felix reached out in their jackets to grab their documents.
“Thank you, gentlemen. I will register your information in our system and I’ll be with you shortly. In the meantime, (Y/N) will give you some information about our hotel.” H. passed the key cards and papers to me and walked towards the reception desk, where both M. and D. were looking in our direction cautiously, so as to not get caught staring.
I turned back to the two vampires and tried my best to whisper, though I was angry at both of them. “What are you doing here? Why did you come after me?”
“Oh, dear (Y/N). Don’t worry. We’re not here for you. We decided to take a small vacation, that’s all.” Demetri smiled and spread his body across the couch.
“Yeah, right. Because of all the places you two would go, you would choose sunny Greece, and then unintentionally choose the hotel I’m working at. I don’t believe you. I didn’t believe you for one second since you came in here. Why are you here?”
I was really angry at them by now. So angry that I could have easily cast an illusion to scare them away - if that would even be possible, but it would raise suspicions as to why the new ‘special guests’ were getting upset at my presence. So, I could only stay angry at them, but not do anything else about it.
"Okay, we'll be honest, because there's no point in hiding behind words. We learned about your secret romance with that one over there." Felix pointed back at M. who looked taken aback and terrified by this sudden attention. Most likely because Felix was staring at him angrily as if he was ready to attack.
I turned to look back at the guards. "Leave him out of this. He didn't do anything. He doesn't know about vampires or the Volturi or the three of us. So, you'll leave him alone. Understood?"
"We'll see about that, dear (Y/N)." Felix smirked, knowing he got the upper hand in this situation.
Before I could reply back to them, H. returned with Felix's and Demetri's fake passports, and I stood up, walking back to the reception desk.
"Here you go, gentleman. I assumed (Y/N) told you everything you wanted to know?"
"Don't worry about that, H. We are not too demanding. Yet. But, we would like to go to our rooms, if you don't mind. We had a long trip and we started getting a bit tired." Demetri played his role of looking as human as he possibly could pretty well.
"Of course, sir. I will call a groom to take you to your rooms."
"Can't (Y/N) take us to our rooms?" Felix smirked, and I swore I could throw up.
"Unfortunately no, sir. (Y/N) works at the reception, and our female receptionists are not allowed to drive the carts around the hotel."
"Then, the young man over there probably can?" Demetri pointed his head towards M. and I knew that wouldn't end well, so I grabbed a walkie-talkie and asked - more like demanded - a groom to come inside for the arrival before M. was forced to drive these two up to their rooms.
M. could see how upset and angry I quickly became, and though he didn't know why, he held my hand and squeezed it lightly to reassure me that I would be okay. I hold his hand in mine while looking at Felix and Demetri angrily and suspiciously.
“Don’t push our limits, (Y/N).” Demetri barely whispered, though enough for me to hear.
“I’m not sure about that, sir.” H. was at a loss for words, as he turned around to look at M., looking kind of desperate. He may have been a manager and had heard about the craziest requests possible, but the two men’s requests seemed too specific and targeted towards specific employees, especially for it being their first time here.
I walked back towards the three men. “I’m sorry, H., M. has to close the register. I will have to help him and finish a few other tasks in the meantime. But I already called a groom, so you can stay here for a while, and D. will inform you when your groom is here to take you to your rooms.” I fake a smile.
“Okay, dear (Y/N), we will be waiting here.” Demetri was smirking at me, looking me up and down carefully. I huffed and went back to the reception desk.
“Come, M., we have to count the money on the register.” I slowly grabbed the register, taking it out of its shelf, and walked to the back office, where it would be quiet, and, most importantly, away from Demetri’s and Felix’s prying eyes. M. followed me without saying anything, probably also glad after this awkward interaction.
The few minutes left until the shift’s end went by quicker, now that I was away from Demetri’s and Felix’s presence. But I knew that wouldn’t be our only interaction; it couldn’t be. The two vampires had made it their life’s mission to control me in any possible way they could.
The next few days were comparably normal to other days, except from the times rooms 707 and 708 would call and request things. Normally, it was the personal concierge’s duty to deal with the suites, but rooms 707 and 708 were occupied by the two people I did not want to have to face ever again, and, being unable to come to the reception to torture me during the day, they were calling and requesting me, personally, to go to their rooms.
Again, normally, that was not my job, and both H. and my manager, T., tried to reason with them, saying that it was out of my responsibilities to attend to their personal needs outside of the reception. The only time they could get out of their rooms was when the sun went down and the dark settled well around the hotel. They would then come by the reception, sit on one of the couches, and watch me until the end of my shift.
That went on for a few days until we received a phone call from the very owner of the hotel. Apparently, “Mr. Romano” and “Mr. De Lio” had personally contacted him, to ensure that I would visit them in their rooms this afternoon. At this point, none of the managers could do anything to prevent me from visiting them.
T. looked at me worried, having been informed by H. about the two “special guests”. She called a groom to come inside, and she then informed him that he would have to take me up to the two suites, but she wanted him to stay outside of the rooms, just to make sure I was okay, and call security or help me himself if anything happened. The groom seemed taken aback, almost terrified and worried for me, mostly because T. sounded terrified herself. He was silent, not saying a single word, as he accompanied me outside.
It was only when we sat on the cart and he slowly started driving away that he asked me. “So, why do these two want you up in their room? We’ve been hearing rumors, us grooms, that they’ve been calling at the reception every day, asking for you.”
“I really don’t know what they may need. I’ve known them before, but not well enough to be considered friends.” It wasn’t entirely untrue - though I may have known them too well, they were not my friends. “So, I really don’t know what this is all about. If it was up to me, I wouldn’t go.”
“What did they do? Complained until T. was forced to send you?” He let out a laugh.
“They call Dr. A.” I looked down, trying to contain the anger I felt inside.
“Hm, so they know the big boss, huh? You’re fucked.”
“I really don’t want to think about it.” I rubbed my forehead with both hands, trying to focus.
“Sorry about that. We’re here. T. told me to wait for you.”
“Yeah. Do what you want. I don’t want you to get in the middle. I will just call your name if anything happens. I can handle it from here.” I got out of the cart, and worked towards room 707, sensing both guards in there. I knocked on the door and it opened within a second.
“Hello, (Y/N). What a surprise! We’ve been waiting for you. Please, come in.” Demetri showed me the room with his hand, inviting me in. I sighed and walked into the room, as he closed the door behind him.
“Ciao, (I/T/N). È bello rivederti. (Hello, (Y/N). It’s nice to see you again.) We missed you, little one.” Felix smiled wide from his position on the armchair near the window.
“Unfortunately, I cannot say the same. Cosa ti serve da me? (What do need from me?) I’m tired of your games.” I spat every single word at them.
“Dear (Y/N), we haven’t even started with you.” Demetri grabbed me by my neck with one hand, as Felix stood up, walking towards me, and kneeling in front of me.
“(Y/N/N), I missed you so much. Don’t leave us, ever again.” Felix stroke my cheek lightly, as he was looking me deep into my eyes. I was unable to move, as Demetri had wrapped his other arm around my torso.
“So, will you tell us about that human friend of yours?” Demetri whispered in my ear, his breath cold and his voice imperative.
“I don’t have to tell you anything.” I spat my words, looking away from them angrily.
“You won’t have to tell us anything, (Y/N). We already know plenty of things. Alice told us everything we needed to know about your little human slut.” Felix’s face distorted into an evil smirk.
“He’s not a slut! If anything, you two are the sluts!”
Felix lifted his hand, slapping me across the face, causing my skin to crack where he touched me. “You better be careful when you talk about us, okay, dolcetta (little sweet one)?”
“You don’t say? You convinced Alice to join you in Volterra, and you’re now fucking her, don’t you? You always had a thing for her!”
“(Y/N), you misunderstood me. Demetri is fucking Alice. I’m fucking only Bella.” Felix smirked, filling me with anger as I tried to break free from Demetri’s arms, but he still held tightly onto me.
“So, what? She decided that Edward was a mistake or something? And she preferred you as a backup? Huh! I always knew this girl would eventually make the wrong choices in her life.”
“You can stop the little act, (Y/N). We let you roam around free for too long. And how do you repay us? By fucking around, and now getting together with a human! It’s time to stop with the nonsense and come back to Volterra with us!”
“And do what exactly? Follow your orders? Serve your Kings? Stay locked in the castle until I’m needed on a mission? No way! These days have passed for me. I’m never going back with you! I’m happy here! He makes me happy!”
"Oh, yeah, as for him, you'll stop seeing him! That human is no good for you!" Felix yelled, now his face slightly cracking from all the anger and frustration.
"And you are?! That human that you speak so disdainfully of is a thousand times better than you! Hell, anyone is better than the two of you!" I yelled back at both of them, not backing away from the argument at all.
"(Y/N)! You'll stop seeing him, and that's final! You are our mate, and you will do as we say!" Demetri chimed in on the argument, supporting his friend's side.
"Honestly, Demetri, tell me if anything good came out from being mated to the two of you. Just one thing! Don't bother. You won't find anything, 'cause nothing good came out of it! You made me a predator. You made me a killer, a monster! Something dangerous and vicious and…!" I was at a loss for words. The anger was getting the best out of me, and I couldn't think straight, even with my vampire brain. I was filled with anger and hatred, and I couldn’t believe these two actually played innocent.
"Save your words, (Y/N). We didn't make you. YOU became the monster, the very thing you seem to hate. You became the 'vicious killer' you talk about. We gave you a new chance in life. We gave you power and a new self." Felix was trying to find excuses for both of them, but it didn't work on me. Not anymore.
"You gave me nothing! You made me into what I am for your own selfish reasons! I was just fine before I met you! I didn't need power or a new self! I was happy with who I was! You made me who I am! You forced me to run away from my family, from my home, because I couldn't hurt them! I couldn't do to them what you did to me! The least you can do is let me live my life the way I want to!"
"That's not possible, (Y/N). We will stay here until you are done with your job. And then, you will come with us back to Volterra. No more 'working'. No more 'sneaking out'. No more 'fun' and, certainly, no more people you get to sleep with!" Demetri's face was as cold and emotionless as Felix's, but his jaw was clenched, and there were clear hints of jealousy and anger on his face, even though he seemed calmer than his fellow guard.
Both of them were looking at me as if they were the parents, trying to discipline me, their disobedient child. But they were not my parents, and I was not their child. And I didn't owe them anything. I didn't have to do as they say; I didn't have to follow them anywhere.
Because, after all these years of being 'damned' into living like this, I finally felt alive and loved and appreciated. And I didn't want to lose that. Not for the power, or the money, or the two mates I was 'cursed' with. I didn't choose this life, and I didn't have to live like this anymore.
“Okay, I will, once I’m done with here.” I calmly said, knowing that I was clearly lying to them. There was no way I would follow them anywhere. “Can you please let me go now? I have to go back to work.”
“Of course, my little baby.” Demetri let go of me, turning my face around to plant an aggressive kiss on my lips. Then, it was Felix’s turn to turn me around and kiss me aggressively.
Everything these two did was aggressive. They were not romantic; they were possessive. And the mate bond intensified this side of them. It was never about true love with them. The mate bond for them meant that I belonged to them, and they could do anything they wanted with me.
The mate bond was bullshit - it didn’t work for me, and it seemed that it didn’t work for Edward or Jasper either. While it was meant to signify your forever love to someone, it seemed to be anything but that. It seemed more as if it was a made-up notion to keep people who did not have anything in common together, even if it meant that they would be miserable with each other.
In my first years after Demetri and Felix turned me, I tried to accept the bond and their psycho behavior as normal - that everything they did was because they loved me. Then, I spent my years doubting their feelings and trying to find a reason why they acted like that. When I had enough, I just tried to tolerate them until I found a way out of there. I knew that they must have known where I was, but they never tried to look out for me, until now. And I still wondered why now? What made them search for me now, and not all these years?
The answer was quite simple though. Their ego. It was quite obvious. I had never been particularly happy with the two of them or with anyone else for the matter. I was happy now, and they had to ruin it for me. If I couldn’t be happy with them, I wouldn’t be happy at all, right? But I was fed up with them trying to ruin the one good thing I found in this life.
I was also scared for M., worried that the two vampires would go after him, and I could not put his life in danger like this. I knew what I had to do. In a moment of total spontaneity, without thinking about it, I called my manager and declared my resignment, telling her that they wouldn’t have to pay me, but I had to leave now for an important family issue, and that I didn't know when or if I would come back.
I drove faster than I had ever driven before to reach my apartment, packing my stuff within seconds. I contacted the owner to let her know that I would transfer the remaining amount of money from our contract to her bank account, and I just left, with no further explanation to anyone. I needed to get as far away from there as I could, to draw the attention away from M. I preferred the two guards coming after me than him.
I stepped on my gas, not thinking about my destination; I would just continue driving until I felt like it was okay for me to stop, even if that meant I’d never stop driving. Though I knew I now had a target on my back, I knew how to fight and survive, and I wanted the same for M., so I was willing to make that small sacrifice for him. I gave him no explanation as to why I left, but maybe that was for the best; it was for his own good.
Knowing M. was no longer targeted, I felt more relaxed now, and I knew that I could now deal with the guards on my own. I felt a wave of confidence and power wash over me, knowing that I left no responsibilities behind. I did not even flinch when my phone vibrated, indicating that I had received a message.
Without taking my eyes off the road, I reached my hand out to grab it from my purse on the passenger’s seat. I unlocked it and looked at the message. I smirked at the context, throwing the device in the backseat. Overflown with my newly-found confidence, I continued driving away to my unknown destination, not giving a care about the world around me. As I was driving into the night, I was lifting the weight off of me, setting myself free.
The message wrote: “Don’t ever think this is over, (Y/N). There is no point in running away because you know that we will find you eventually.”
We’ll see about that, dear Felix. We will see.

If it had been Jasper-Sadie or Alice-Sadie as the vampires and finding their third later, how if at all would any of the “prior” story (the Twilght saga proper) have changed?
This turns the timeline inside out, but Meyer was never great at those anyway.
(Hi, if you're from the Twilight fandom stumbling across this post without context, Sadie is my OC in a yandere Alice/yandere Jasper/OC fic that you can read here.)
Ohhh, so much potential there! I can't answer that in full, because doing so would spoil what Sadie's potential vampire ability is. (Super sorry about that. Feel free to ask again after that information has come up in Rule One!)
I can say that both Bella and Edward would take to confiding in her and seeking her counsel with regards to their relationship. Especially if it's a Sadie-Alice duo; Edward would be super close with both Sadie and Alice (like he's close with Alice in canon), and while he sometimes gets frustrated with Alice, he pretty much always respects Sadie. It's like, Alice would be Bella's best friend and Edward's partner in crime (since she's still the one who would agree to kidnap Bella, whereas Sadie would never), and Sadie would be Bella's confidante and Edward's moral compass. Both Bella and Edward would go to Sadie for advice about each other, and Sadie, though startled by their neediness, would always have something valuable to say.
(Picture Bella or Edward bursting into Sadie's room with a question, and Sadie, wide-eyed, putting down whatever she's doing and saying, "Alrighty then, have a seat.)
Edward trusts that Sadie wouldn't lie to him, so the urgency in having Bella run to him in Italy before he sparkles in front of people (lest he read Alice's thoughts and assume she's lying to him) wouldn't be a thing; Sadie just runs Bella to Edward with vampire speed and is subjected to that whole reunion as an awkward third wheel while Alice parks the stolen car.
Also, Sadie would tip every fight slightly more in favor of the Cullens, but she would also have a habit of really wanting to talk to the enemies instead of attacking them. This is good/useful with the Volturi but not so good/useful with Victoria and Riley.
Oh! Also, Sadie would realize that Victoria will probably follow Edward's scent, in Eclipse, and Sadie would accompany him and Bella in sitting the battle out, so that they have more backup against Victoria. Jasper and Alice wouldn't be privy to the fact that Victoria is coming; this is just a realization that Sadie has that Edward hears in her mind. (As far as Jasper and Alice are concerned, Sadie is sitting the battle out just to be safe, and they're happy that she won't be in harm's way.) This is where Sadie's need to talk to enemies would become a problem, because both Victoria and Riley are too far gone to listen to reason, but Sadie really believes in them and wants to convince them they don't have to die today. It still turns out fine, though. Sadie gets a little hurt, but she's fine. Alice and Jasper would be absolutely smothering, after. Victoria is lucky she's already dead, because they would make her suffer.
And Sadie would think to explain things to Irina before Alice realizes that Irina is going to the Volturi, so that whole misunderstanding never happens.
All of that being said, the thought of "Yandere Alice meets Sadie first" and "Yandere Jasper meets Sadie first" got really interesting to me. So I have to talk about those scenarios immediately.
I'm going to place Sadie sometime in the twentieth century in both cases, and I'm going to try to let the time period matter as little as possible, but feel free to imagine them in 50s or 60s attire, lol. (Or 70s or 80s; again, it doesn't matter that much; I'm just placing her in the twentieth century to keep the rough order of events the same, kind of.) I'm approaching this with the assumption that Alice and Jasper still become vampires in the same way/at the same time as they do in canon; they just meet at different times. I'm not dealing with the Confederate thing here, though, because I'll be dealing with it in Rule One.
I'm gonna go ahead and put it all under the cut. (And if your experience of Rule One is more invested in the potential for wholesome romance than the yandere aspect, maybe the rest of this isn't for you, because this is definitely more yandere-leaning, lol.)
Alice-Sadie
Alice knows three things: 1. Her own name. 2. That she is going to join the Cullens. 3. That Sadie, whom she has not yet met, is her soulmate.
Though she slips up every now and then, Alice does her best not to eat humans. She wants to fit in with the Cullens by the time she finds them, so she's accustoming herself to the animal diet. Anyway, she has a mate out there whom she will meet as a human, and she has to get herself under control before she can risk being around her.
The thing is, Alice knows about Sadie before Sadie is actually an option, so she has to kill time so that she doesn't meet Sadie too early. And Alice hates waiting, so she goes ahead and introduces herself to the Cullens before Sadie. She tells them all about how she'll have a soulmate soon, and how it's killing her to keep her distance but she knows things will be way better if she never meets Sadie as a child. She decorates her room with things that Sadie likes, anticipating that one day she'll be sharing the room with Sadie. Honestly, if it weren't for Edward's mind reading, the rest of the Cullens might think Sadie was an imaginary friend or something.
(Rosalie would normally take issue with Alice's plans to intrude on the life of a human she's never met just because of a potential future where they're in love, but she doesn't really take Alice's fantasizing seriously until it's too late.)
One day, Alice just sort of disappears from the Cullen house, and only Edward knows where she's gone.
Sadie is finally at the right age; it's time.
Alice appears in Sadie's life, and everything she says and does is perfect. She rockets from stranger to friend to best friend at an impressive rate, her precognition easily compensating for Sadie's hesitancy (and Sadie would start off more wary than she is in Rule One, due to the time period). Having left the rest of the Cullens, for the time being, there is nothing (read: no one) holding Alice back from being absolutely surgical about making herself important in Sadie's life and subtly isolating her. She gives expensive gifts, and comprehensive compliments, and she always knows what to say to make Sadie like and trust her more.
When Sadie starts to become suspicious about the evolution of their friendship, Alice drops the vampire bomb and the soulmate bomb all at once, showing Sadie her speed and strength and sparkles. There was no better way to do it. Alice checked; this was the absolute best set of circumstances for the reveal.
Sadie asks for time to process the information. She asks for space. Alice graciously allows it; she's practically living with Sadie at this point, anyway. (Not that Sadie knows it. But yeah, she's in Sadie's house pretty much 24/7 (minus her hunting trips), dodging notice with stealth and psychic powers.)
When Sadie is ready to talk again, Alice pours out every reassurance: how she will never stop loving her; how she would never hurt her; how she thinks about her all the time and loves her so much. Sadie isn't fully won over by the whole vampire lover concept, but Alice does convince her to come meet her family.
They go to the Cullen house. Alice shows her off to everyone, and Rosalie is stunned, and Emmett laughs incredulously. Edward and Carlisle make polite introductions, and Esme hugs her, just glad to see Alice so happy. (Esme has been so worried about her newest daughter, so flighty and constantly pining for someone who wasn't there. And then she disappeared, and anything could have happened to her! But now she's back, and she's brought someone lovely, and she looks happier than Esme has ever seen her.) Carlisle and Edward give Sadie a more in-depth explanation of how vampires operate and why the bond between mates is a big deal. Esme cooks her a huge meal. Before they know it, nighttime has come, and Sadie falls asleep in Alice's room.
She wasn't drugged or anything; Alice just perfectly orchestrated a set of circumstances in which she would be tired by this exact time.
When she wakes up, Alice is an utter angel, offering her breakfast and a bath and telling her that there's more to see, around the house. She hasn't seen Rosalie's garage, yet! She hasn't seen Esme's garden. And soon enough she's sleeping over again.
On that third day at the house, Rosalie pulls Sadie aside to say that she'll drive Sadie home, if Sadie needs her to. But Alice has done her job well; Sadie likes Alice, and she likes the Cullens, and most of all, she's so curious about vampires and the world thereof. She's willing to stay and learn, provided she can visit her friends and family, and provided Alice doesn't try to change her. She fills several journals with what she learns about vampires, all in the span of a single year. She learns so much, and she's never satisfied that she's learned enough.
When Alice asks her to let Carlisle change her, she chooses exactly the right conversation, exactly the right approach, and exactly the right time. Sadie agrees and becomes a vampire. (She kind of has to, for this prompt, lol.) Rosalie is annoyed, but she knows that Sadie thought the matter over thoroughly.
When the day comes that Alice sees Jasper in their future, she drags Sadie off to meet him, barely explaining herself beyond "We have another mate!". Sadie goes along with it because she's used to Alice's antics.
They meet this crimson-eyed, roguishly handsome vampire, and Jasper is pretty instantly enthralled with them both. He's curious about their golden eyes, charmed by Alice's forwardness, and amused by Sadie's mix of intrigue and wariness. The emotional flavor of Alice's joy and cheerfulness, and of Sadie's curiosity and uncertainty, are enough to pretty much have him wrapped around their fingers right away.
Sadie's reaction is more "Ohhhh, Alice, this guy eats people..."
Alice just goes, "It's okay. Jasper will be willing to change his diet if we ask him to. Won't you, Jasper?"
And it's so presumptuous, but also he's into it, because Sadie has already made it clear that eating humans is a deal-breaker for her, and he doesn't want this meeting to end.
He joins the family, and it feels like the best thing ever; he has two amazing soulmates, and he belongs to a large coven that will always be safe from strangers. The animal-eating thing is a downside, but there's no help for that.
The dynamic for the next little while is that Alice is already in love with both Jasper and Sadie, Jasper is already in love with Alice and Sadie, and Sadie is in love with Alice and polite to Jasper but isn't quite sure about him. Like, she's in a peculiar place of "We are soulmates, and I do like you and feel an attraction to you, and I understand how our personalities are good together, but I don't know how long it'll take me to become comfortable with your past", and Jasper is just falling over himself to earn her approval, but she's comfortable with allowing it to take time.
(Rosalie is secretly very entertained by the whole thing, and Emmett is not-so-secretly entertained.)
Unlike in canon, Jasper would never suggest eating any human ever again; even once Sadie is comfortable with him, he never wants to risk making her doubt him the way she did in the beginning.
Jasper-Sadie
So at this point in his life, Jasper is eating people. His eyes are bright red, and he is ruthless, and Alice isn't around to temper that side of him.
This is absolutely a kidnapping situation.
When he runs into Sadie (entirely by happenstance), he doesn't know immediately that he is in love with her; he just knows that he wants to follow her, so he does. He stalks after her like he has stalked lots of prey in the past. Her blood doesn't sing to him, though; after several hours of just tailing her, he realizes that he just likes to hear her breathe and speak and laugh. He likes to look at her. He likes to taste her emotions on the air. He likes this human.
Then he realizes that he's in love with her, as much as Peter is in love with Charlotte.
He never wants to stop looking at her, listening to her talk...
He manages to get her alone, and he introduces himself in a charismatic, gentlemanly fashion. He kisses the back of her hand (managing to ignore the feel and sound of her pulse so close; he shouldn't take a risk like that again) and says, "Good afternoon, ma'am. My name is Jasper Whitlock. May I ask what your name is?"
She notices the coldness of his skin and the redness of his eyes (and again, time-period-wise, this interaction is very weird), but he is sending her the most powerful waves of comfort and calm that he can. She is dazed and perplexed, but not afraid, as she answers, "I'm Sadie Gilder."
It's the most beautiful name he has ever heard.
He abducts her pretty much then and there; he leads her away with a request that she accompany him and a heavy layer of mood control. Sadie is able to break out of the daze (through sheer overthinking) after they've walked together awhile; by the time she asks, "Wait, where are we?", they've reached the secluded mansion of an old widow.
(Jasper doesn't need a place to sleep, but his Sadie does, so he quickly identified this place as the best option.)
The order in which Jasper eats the occupants of the house and brings Sadie inside the house is up to your imagination, as is whether or not Sadie ends up seeing any bodies or seeing him with blood on his face and clothes. Either way, just the kidnapping itself is enough to have Sadie panicking, and he hates to feel her fear.
He holds her, gives her calming energy, and whispers to her. "Don't be scared. I won't hurt you, Perfect Sadie. I won't eat you. You're too special. Just gonna keep you right here." (He's just eaten a lot of people, so he's okay with breathing right next to her, so that he can keep whispering to her.) She falls asleep in his arms. He doesn't stop holding her, and he doesn't stop whispering. (Also, remember how the first thing he says to Sadie in Rule One is that she's warm and soft? Yeah, he still says that, pretty much verbatim, in this scenario. I'm not putting it in quotes, because it sounds dirty in a kidnapping context, but he for sure says it.)
The next day, since he's keeping up the comforting vibes to keep her from being afraid, Sadie asks Jasper a lot of questions. He tells her everything he knows about vampires. He isn't fully versed in vampire mating, so he isn't able to really inform her that his obsession with her is, to some degree, an inherent vampire trait, but he is very good at conveying to her that he is obsessed.
With no one to tell him to cool it with his power, and with his diet of human blood making his power more potent than it would be on animal blood, Jasper uses it at pretty much full capacity every time, instead of subtle shifts in emotion. So, while Sadie does notice that it's happening, she can't keep herself from the effects of his power by self-awareness alone.
He generally doses her with the same kind of peaceful calm he uses when he meets strange vampires for the first time, instead of the lethargic calm he uses to keep prey docile. He uses the latter when he wants her to sleep, but for the most part he just wants her to be unfearful and communicative.
She eats the food that's in the house. When he's able to convince himself to leave her unattended (usually after he's put her to sleep), he picks up more groceries and abducts some humans for himself. He keeps them in the cellar, far enough away from Sadie that she needn't know they're there but close enough that he can still hear her when he goes down to eat them. It's actually very convenient, not to have to hunt often; he just has to pop down to the cellar and enjoy a few of the already-injured occupants. Having a steady home has its upside. It's a shame someone will eventually notice the widow missing and he'll have to move with Sadie. But there will always be another empty mansion, or a mansion that can be easily made empty.
(When it's time to change homes, Jasper carries Sadie to the new destination while she's sleeping.)
Partially due to the mood control and partially due to the upfront-ness of everything, there's honestly very little tension between them. There's fear, sometimes (The one time Sadie tries to leave the mansion while Jasper is eating, he runs up from the cellar to stop her, and he's still covered in blood, and she's terrified, and it takes him a lot of soothing to get her calm again. It upsets him when she's scared.), but no tension. Sadie would like to leave, but she gathers that she can't, so all there is to do is maneuver within the new situation and learn more about her captor.
And neither of them is inherently a romantic. Jasper loves her, but even he isn't under the impression that they're dating or something. As far as he's concerned, he's keeping her; as far as she's concerned, she's studying him. Jasper is ecstatic with the arrangement, and Sadie is as comfortable as the situation allows.
Peter and Charlotte follow Jasper's scent at some point, wanting to hang out, and Jasper socializes with them outside the mansion, explaining that they can't go in because there's a human inside whom he is invested in keeping alive, and he can't risk them eating her. When they learn that he's in love, they ask if he plans on changing her, but he says that he can't yet. His control isn't good enough.
One day, Alice shows up.
She meets Jasper while he's in town, gathering food for Sadie and himself. They still have the little "You kept me waiting" "My apologies" flirtation, but he's a little more guarded, because he has to get back to Sadie, and as much as he is already beguiled by this weird-eyed stranger, he doesn't want her following him home. She's a vampire, and no vampires are allowed near his Sadie.
Alice really wants to skip the wooing; she's already seen herself with Jasper and Sadie. But she knows that mentioning Sadie too soon could make Jasper defensive, so she has to sprinkle herself slowly into Jasper's life, meeting him when he comes to town and letting his instinctive attraction and fondness for her grow into trust over a span of months (even moving towns when he does). She doesn't say anything about him switching to an animal diet, either; she tells him that she eats animals, but trying to influence him at this stage could alter her chances of seeing Sadie. Better to just let him murder.
Once they're at the right place, trust-wise, she tells him that she is already as in love with Sadie as she is with him, due to her psychic visions, and she asks to meet her. At first, Jasper isn't ready, but after she's asked a few more times, he allows it.
Alice has to be extra careful, because she wants to just run and hug Sadie as soon as she sees her, but if she makes a sudden move, Jasper will react badly. (Especially since the speed that comes with her small frame makes her a genuine threat to Sadie, even with Jasper there.) Not to mention, she has to endear herself to Sadie, whose only experience with vampires has been abduction.
"Sadie Lily Gilder," Alice says, barely restraining her excitement. "I am Alice Cullen. I'm your other soulmate."
Sadie is mostly perplexed and a little exasperated, but Jasper feels suddenly as if the sun has broken through the clouds. (Which means a lot, since he was already happy before.) Alice's joy at finally getting to see Sadie seems to fill the room, and this is his first time hearing Sadie's middle name, and...
"I like seeing you together," he realizes.
For the next few months, Alice is allowed to visit Sadie every now and then, under full supervision from Jasper. He can feel that she loves Sadie as much as he does, but he's still got to be careful. Humans are so fragile, and he's used to only trusting himself. When she comes, Alice brings Sadie little gifts that she never thought to ask Jasper before. She brings a new spritely energy to the house that Sadie comes to enjoy.
The following few months, (and after Jasper has watched her hunt animals) she's allowed to stay over full-time. They watch Sadie sleep, together. She's able to answer more of Sadie's questions.
Alice introduces Jasper to the idea of joining a family she's seen in their future. He doesn't want that many vampires around their Sadie, but as always, Alice says just the right things: they're all animal eaters; she hasn't seen a single future where any of them hurt Sadie; and the eldest of them could change Sadie for them.
(She also has to convince Sadie to want to become immortal with them, since she knows that Carlisle and Edward would be against turning her against her will. It helps that Sadie has been captured by a vampire for a while, now, and being a vampire herself would give her a chance of exerting some control over her future.)
When they meet the Cullens, Alice acts like they're already best friends. Jasper is more formal in asking the patriarch if he can change Sadie for them.
Edward calls them out on kidnapping Sadie, but Sadie points out that, unless things come to blows between the Cullens and Alice and Jasper, the only way for her to no longer be kidnapped is by becoming a vampire.
So Carlisle changes her, and she stays with the Cullens so that she can have someone to help her overcome her thirst during her newborn years without slipping up and hurting someone. Alice and Jasper stay with the Cullens, too (and the Cullens tell Jasper that he has to switch to the animal diet if he wants to stay). Eventually, all three of them are close enough to various members of the Cullen family that they just sort of become part of it.
Having been kidnapped at the start of all this, though, Sadie exerts her autonomy in pretty much every way. In her newborn years, in which she is more temperamental (though that isn't saying much; she's still pretty mellow by newborn vampire standards), she confronts Jasper for what he did, and he pretty much just takes it; things have worked out pretty great for him, so it's only fair to let her get it off her chest. Sadie can feel the bond between her and Alice and Jasper, but she can also feel that he didn't have to do what he did. She goes to visit her human family, once she knows that she won't eat them; she and Rosalie go on lengthy road trips; she and Emmett go to football games; she goes volunteering and home renovating with Esme; she learns languages and musical instruments from Edward; she learns vampire history from Carlisle and even joins him on a trip to Volterra.
She lets Alice buy her clothes but overall gives Jasper a wide berth.
Alice, having gained full trust from Jasper, is able to convince him to allow Sadie her space for a while, as she comes to terms with everything that happened. Jasper agrees, since Sadie isn't so fragile anymore and he knows that Alice is keeping an eye on her. So long as they know where Sadie is at all times, and so long as she is accompanied by at least one of the Cullens, he can bear to spend uninterrupted one-on-one time with his newest mate, especially if doing so will help Sadie to forgive him.
The diet of animal blood makes him less wild (but more tense, as he can feel that he is weaker), and the newness of everything in Sadie's life raises her spirits. Maybe eventually she'll be willing to hang out with him again, but it'll take a few years.

*Edited:3
Bella pulled up to school on that fine morning.
“Jacob told me about an ancient legend about the Cold Ones.”
“About how it’s why the Cullens don’t come to la push. It’s, uh, a territory thing.”
I was with her. I didn’t separate from her all day, only for class.
“I thought it was a silly legend, but…”
Even during lunch, I wouldn’t spare Jasper a glance. I couldn’t talk to him.
“I’ve been connecting the dots. The inhuman speed. Inhuman strength. Inhuman senses. The cold flesh. Their changing eyes. Their eating habits. Everything proves it…”
Not yet.
“The Cullens, including Jasper, are vampires.”
It sounded crazy. I knew it did. However, the moment the word came out of Bella’s mouth, it fit perfectly, and I knew it to be true. It seemed like something out of a horror movie. Or comedy movie. Hell, even a romance. But it never seemed possible in reality.
So, here I was, walking out of the school building. Jasper wasn’t in my peripheral, but I knew he was around. And if he wasn’t… I knew he’d arrive in a flash.
Jessica and my other friends were calling to me from the van. And yet, my body didn’t respond. No wave, no smile, no acknowledgement. It was as though I didn’t have control of my own body. As I stalked past the grass courtyard and entered the green, wooden pastures.
Only when I was under the shady trees, surrounded by nothing by nature, did I halt. My backpack was still slung over my shoulders, but my knuckles had grown pale. I let out a breath that I didn’t know I was holding in. It was as though my body was on autopilot.
At least, until I felt a presence behind me. And I turned, coming face to face with Jasper.
He looked terrified. Was he expected to kill me now that I knew? I was the one who should’ve been afraid. And yet, his golden eyes held more fear than I could conjure.
“Why… didn’t you wait for me to tell you?” he croaked through gritting teeth.
“She was fearing for our lives,” I chuckled grimly. “At least one of us had some common sense passed down. I feel crazy for even being here right now.”
“You are. You know what I am. You should be screaming and crying. You should be… scared.”
“But I’m not. If you wanted me dead, I would be,” I reasoned shakily. “But… you’ve killed people, haven’t you?”
“I… have.” Hearing that confirmation, I was crestfallen. And when he took a step closer, I took a step back. It was in vein, though, as he was in front of me in an instant and grabbed my shoulders. “Wait… Let me explain.”
“I hardly have a choice, do I?” I retorted bitterly, lowering my head in defeat.
“It was eighteen-sixty-three when I was turned by my former lover, Maria. I was a sheriff when I rode out to the river and found three women. Maria lured me in and changed me to be her slave in her newborn vampire army.” Shivers rolled down my spine as Jasper’s fingers ghosted down my arm further. “When I changed, I had a very special ability. One that Maria greatly desired. She kept me close as her second-in-command. We… were in love. Or, at least, I was.
“One day, I grew tired of her games. I felt terrible for having to kill newborn after newborn after their strength and speed became useless to us. And that’s when I met Alice and the other Cullens. They… offered me a home I never had. In exchange for a family, I would give up human blood and become a… vegetarian, so to say. We only eat animals.”
“But… you clearly have a hard time around people, even now,” I inquired weakly. “Why me?”
“It - it stunned us all when you and Bella arrived at school. Edward was the first to realize something was off,” Jasper continued. By now, we were holding hands, and I finally willed myself to meet his gaze. “When he smelled Bella, he never wanted any human’s blood more in his life. And, even worse, he couldn’t practice his ability on her. He can read minds, a very powerful gift. I’ve tried on several occasions, too.”
“And…?”
“And then… there was you,” he sighed. “You - you smell different. Not disgusting. Not delicious. You smell like nothing. Usually, we can detect and smell human blood, no matter the blood type. But with you - nothing. And because of that…”
“You could talk to me.”
He chuckled nervously. “You say that as though it’s a bad thing.”
Any worries I felt were replaced with confusion. I was tired. I leaned and placed my head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around me and held me close. He was freezing. But… it was almost normal. Almost right.
“Jas… just answer me this one thing.”
“Anything, darling.”
“What… what’s your power?”
I felt like I knew already. That the hints were there. But if he said that one ability, I would lose my trust in him. Not because of the atrocities of his past. Not because of his species. This was the sole dealbreaker that would cause me to question everything.
“Well, I… can sense and manipulate emotions.”
I lifted my head and pushed at his chest. Tears sprung to my eyes. He gave me but a few inches, his brows furrowing, because he could sense the distress. Of course he could.
“So everything I feel for you is a lie?” I snapped. “I know you’ve used it on me. Every time I ask questions, every time I think a thought, I -I…”
“Of course not,” he whispered, a hand moving to cup my cheek. “None of it was a lie. What we feel about each other is real. I swear, Y/n, I haven’t felt this way since Maria. And even then, I’ve never felt anything like this —"
“That’s not the problem, Jasper, and you know it!” I boomed. “For all I know, you could’ve used it the day we met. You could be using it all the time and I wouldn’t have a clue —"
“But I haven’t. Please, calm down —"
“Or what, huh? Are you going to make me?”
I’d never seen him so hurt, and his arms released me, dropping to his sides. I felt bad. But, I felt betrayed. Confused. Worried. I knew it was wrong to pity him when he was a supernatural being. A vampire who’s killed people and his own kind. Hell, if it wasn’t for my scent or whatever, I could be dead. Sucked dry. Nothing but bone and marrow.
I hated that I still liked him when all of my senses told me I shouldn’t. I rubbed my forehead anxiously. “I… I don’t know if I can do this. It’s insane.”
His eyes widened desperately, and his fists balled up. “You don’t need to be scared of me.”
“You know damn well that’s not it,” I croaked. “Where the hell would we even go from here, huh? You wait until I waste away and die while you live forever in your vampire glee? I watch and wait until you lose control and mess up? You trick me into being with you anyways, because hell, it doesn’t really matter what I think, does it —"
I froze in fear as I watched Jasper’s eyes glazed over and turned ruby red. A snarl tugged at his lips, and prominent fangs escaped. And yet, he didn’t look angry. If anything, he looked disheartened. All my fury dissipated and I raised my hand toward him and placed it on his chest.
“Please…”
My mouth went dry and I gulped. With my free hand, I wiped away my tears. He held my hand to his chest, and I knew better than to try and pull away. He was strong. Too strong. Because he was a vampire. And yet, I wanted him so bad. I was just trying to find faults. But maybe, just maybe, that was the right thing to do.
“It’s impossible to be that interested in me. We’ve only known each other, what, three months?”
“Then I can wait,” he responded eagerly, his eyes returning to their golden homeostasis. “I have already waited for eternity to meet you. I thought fate… was a silly notion. But if it’s you, I can wait an eternity more.”
My heart dropped to my stomach and I couldn’t help but frown. Jasper… he was so genuine. How could I turn him away?
“God, I want you…”
“Then what’s stopping you?”
I bit my lip, meeting his beautiful, glowing orbs. “…Bella.” It took me a moment to process. “Oh my god, Bella! She’s still waiting for me. I - I have to go, Jas —"
I went to dodge him, but an arm swooped around my waist and I was in the same position I was before. I was breathless as I stared at his handsome expression. He had leaned in so close to me. My eyes fluttered shut, and I expected to feel his lips against mine.
Instead, something cold pressed against my forehead.
As he pulled away, he sent me a gentle, almost goofy smile. “…For the road.”
~~~
It was winter and it was cold. The winter formal was still on my mind, but Jasper hadn’t asked me yet. I knew he was trying to give me space, but I found myself longing for him more than our interactions at school. I wanted to go on an official date with him and call him every night.
However, I didn’t want to rush it. There were so many logistics to think about. Dating a vampire… meant he wasn’t looking for something casual. And in the back of my mind, I feared for the worst. He may be immune to my stench or whatever, but it could wear off.
I was hoping, during that car ride home after our fateful encounters with the supernatural, that she’d convince me not to think about Jasper. But, instead, she informed me that she was with Edward. And I knew better than to be hypocrite. I couldn’t even convince myself to give up Jasper.
But… today wasn’t about him. It was about Jacob, who had been distant as of late. I heard from dad who heard from Billy that he was having a hard time. I’d tried to call him previously, but he never answered. At least, until last night.
“Can I come over to hang out? I really need a break,” he’d told me over the phone.
Of course, I accepted. I made sure to wake up extra early to buy some snacks for when he arrived. Bella would be god knows where with Edward, and dad was at work. That meant we had the whole day to ourselves to catch up.
I rose from the couch, the afternoon sun covered by snowy clouds barely peeking through the curtains.
Knock knock.
Two o’ clock, on the dot. I skipped over to the door, peeking out to make sure it was Jacob. It was indeed, and I opened the door, immediately pouncing on him. We both laughed, but as I hugged him, I noticed how muscular he’d become.
“Jake! God, I’ve been worried sick. Get in here!” I exclaimed, pulling his arm and closing the door behind him.
Despite from the brief exposure of the snowy outdoors, Jake’s hug was oddly warm. And as I eyed him up and down, I realized he was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. He ruffled my hair, and I realized how he towered over me. He had a small grin on his much handsomer face.
“I’m sorry for going M.I.A.,” he apologized. “Things have just been… busy. The guys have been telling me to get back to you, though.”
I crossed my arms, sending him a glare. “You should be sorry. You didn’t even respond to my texts! All I could rely on was dad relaying information from Billy. What was going on.”
He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “It’s… difficult to talk about.”
I rolled my eyes. “Gosh, that’s not the first time I’ve heard that from a damned friend of mine. You will definitely be telling me later, got it? For now…” I motioned the television. “Jeopardy is on! And a pizza’s in the oven. Oh - and I bought cookies, too!”
Jake laughed again, all of his unease having washed away. “That sounds great.”
He tossed his arm around my shoulder and let me push him onto the couch. He waited patiently as I pulled out the pizza. I returned only a few minutes later to find Jacob watching the kitchen doorway with interest. The commercials were playing, though, so I couldn’t blame him.
I arranged the various snacks and utensils. As much as I adored my Forks high school friends, I need a break from all this vampire drama. Even with Jessica and Angela, it was always ‘Jasper this, Edward that.’ It grew tiresome.
“How has school been for you?” I asked with a face shoved with pizza. I felt no discomfort as I leaned against him, one arm thrown around his neck.
Jacob shrugged. “So-so. I know you think it’s all fun out on the reservation, but ever since I… went through some changes, it’s been the definition of hell for me. Suddenly - especially now that Harry’s dead - I’m expected to be this community leader. It’s stressful and I definitely needed this.”
I pulled a blanket onto my legs, humming. “I get that. I’m sorry about Harry, by the way I know how important he was to you.”
“Well, Seth and Leah are taking it the worst. I mean, obviously. He was their father,” he expressed. “But… enough about that. What about your life? I would hope things are going better for you.”
Oh, the dreaded question. I slowed my chews thoughtfully. How could I hint at vampirism without actually putting my potential boyfriend?  Jacob stared at me expectantly. “Well, uh, different?”
Jacob tilted his head, suspicion flooding his eyes. “What happened? Don’t tell me it’s still an ‘ugh, boys’ problem.”
I teetered my hands. “Well, kind of? I have this complicated thing going with Jasper. He’s all into me, but he’s, well, a… a little weird, I guess that’s how I put it. I mean, I absolutely adore the guy, but - it’s genuinely so hard to talk about without spoiling.”
His jaw clenched and all playfully dissolved into a serious composure. He grabbed my upper arm, squeezing reassuringly. “Listen, Y/n. I know the Cullens seem charming —"
“Oh, they are! Bella already jumped the bullet and is actually with Edward Cullen. They’ve been dating for weeks. They’re absolutely obsessed with each other —"
“They’re what?” he boomed, sitting up and grabbing my shoulders. I gulped as his cold eyes bore into me. “Y/n, that’s not good. I can’t say how, but the Cullens are all freaks. They’re dangerous. And this Jasper, I know damn well he only sees you like a piece of meat.”
My heart stopped. Did he know? He was the one who told Bella about the legend that led to our discovery of their supernatural species of the first place. “Are you… do you know about them?”
Jacob scowled. “Do you?”
“I mean, if you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about, then yeah —"
A knock sounded from the front door. I was confused, but was more than happy to end the conversation. Jacob was suddenly alert, though, and as I stood, he grabbed my wrist. “Let me get it.”
“It’s my house —"
Jacob had already pushed me back onto the sofa and was at the front door in a flash. I trailed behind him, peering over his shoulder. However, he instead pushed an extra lock over the door.
“I’m not answering,” he conceded.
“What? Jake, get out of the way!”
I pushed him with all my right, but it seemed to have no effect on the muscular man. Huffing and giving up, I went to the small window beside it and peered out. I let out a gasp, as I recognized Jasper’s grey sedan, and, judging from the car’s appearance, the man in front of the door was Jasper.
“Listen, Jake, please move out of the way. I’ll literally open the damn window for him and then you’ll feel bad because you’ve cost us more on the heating bill,” I coaxed.
Jake gave me an incredulous look, but roughly moved out of the way. I swung the front door, my heart bating erratically. It’d been a while since I’d seen Jasper outside of school. And yet, here he was at my doorstep. And he had a beautiful bouquet of f/f in his grasp.
I gasped, clapping my hands together. “Jas! God, get in here, it’s freezing outside.” I grabbed his arm and tugged, but he didn’t budge.
I looked at him once more and quirked a brow. Jacob and Jasper were glaring venomously at one another, and it was like they wanted to tear each other to shreds. I tugged again, though, and he met my concerned gaze. His instantly softer and he stepped inside.
I closed the door behind him, wanting nothing more than to ease the tension. “So… what’s the occasion?”
Jasper gave me a tense, close-mouthed smile. “I wanted to take you out for dinner… I didn’t think you’d have a mutt over, though.”
Jacob suddenly growled, and it hardly sounded human. “Leave, Cullen. You’re not welcome here.”
Jasper quirked a brow, baring his fangs. I jumped back, mind blanking on me. They were just baring their teeth at one another, and I was caught in the middle of it. “Jake… you knew? Was that why you told her the story about the Cold Ones?”
Jake grabbed my arm and pulled me over to him. Jasper regarded Jacob with disdain. Something in his eyes was telling him to back off, though, and due to him being a vampire, I feared for my friend.
“I didn’t think it was true at the time,” he grumbled. “But I’m not surprised your blood-sucker-dating sister failed to mention the other half of the story.”
“Hey —!” I squeaked, only to be interrupted.
Jasper’s grip tightened on the flowers, and the snapped in half somehow. He threw them at the wall, and I realized it was his own way of releasing anger. His eyes were blood red. And Jacob… was fuzzier?
“Werwolf,” Jasper hissed. “Let go of her before you scratch her with those filthy paws of yours.”
Jacob scoffed. “Says the one that plans to suck her dry any day now.”
I furrowed my brows, deciding to slam my heel on Jacob’s foot. He released me, although he didn’t seem to flinch in the slightest. I shuffled away, taking a step back. My brain was absolutely fried from all this supernatural knowledge being thrust on me, and right now, I didn’t care to ask questions.
While they looked like they were on the verge of murdering each other, not budging, but slaughtering with their glares. I walked back to the couch and plopped down.
Oh, it was another ad break. God dammit, their petty xenophobic - or whatever the right term is - argument prevented me from seeing who won jeopardy. I tuned back into conversation, peering over couch while bunched up in the blankets. They were still throwing stupid threats at one another. I was rather confused why they weren’t actually killing each other, though.
“Hey, boys, over here,” I called. Both of them turned to me. “…Want to watch jeopardy together? Another episode is starting soon.”
Jacob regarded me with confusion, motioning to Jasper wildly. “Are you kidding me? The blood sucker has to go —"
“Says the filthy mutt,” Jasper guffawed.
“The point is, he’s a disgusting vampire,” Jacob boomed, and Jasper chimed at the same time, "Werewolf!”
Silence fell over the room and I quirked my brows in disbelief. They looked at me expectantly, both panting with range.
“…So?”
Jacob snorted indignantly. “Wow. What a great blood sucker you are. Not even telling your next meal why you species are so disgusting —"
Jasper slammed his fist into the wall beside him, and although I couldn’t see, I knew damn well it left a dent. “You know nothing about me. Or her, for that matter. Stop pretending you’re all pure and good, because all you’re trying to do is —"
“Boys, boys!” I shouted, becoming rather irked. “Jesus Christ, guys. You know what - I don’t care. Jasper, leave. Let’s go on a date tomorrow night, ‘kay? And call me later. Jacob, I promised a nice, relaxing day with you, so cool it. Otherwise, I’m kicking you both out and you can take this… rivalry or whatever elsewhere. Got. it?”
Both of the men fell silent. Jasper’s jaw clenched, while Jacob was seemingly gloating his ‘victory.’ I disregarded it immediately, turning back to the television.
From behind me, the front door open and shut. And then Jacob was beside me, still tense, but a large smirk on his face. I sent him a glance, lacking my usual amusement. He just shrugged, leaning back against the couch. We watched Jeopardy in silence.
And, as the episode came to a close, I zoned back in again. There Jacob was, laying on my lap. My irritation disappeared and was replaced with concern. Of course I had questions. But… today was meant to be a day that was vampire - and apparently, werewolf - free. Maybe how I reacted was stupid, and Jasper would be pissed at me, but for now…
Wow. Jacob’s hair was really fluffy.
I giggled to myself and gently ran my fingers through it. He was out like a light, so I felt comfortable petting him without his knowledge. I was rather tired myself. However, I cherished the moment. Because, if even for just a few minutes, it was just me and a good childhood friend chilling on my couch in a normal world where I wasn’t having an existential crisis.
But, as I pulled my hand away, he grabbed it. I made no objections as he pulled my palm onto his cheek. He was warm. I smiled slightly.
His eyes fluttered open, and that’s when I saw it. The same disparity Jasper had harbored during our interaction.
“Y/n… I care about you. And I won’t let you go down the same path Bella is choosing. Vampires…. They’re built to mystify and charm. They’re built to lie and cheat. They don’t have any souls. There’s no happy ending if you stick around the Cullens. You’ll either become lifeless like them, or you’ll end up as their meal.”
I sighed, brushing my thumb across his jawline. “Jacob… Are you saying this without bias? Tell me that there’s not even the slightest amount of bias behind your words, because I will believe you. Tell me that you’re not saying this because you’re sworn enemies or whatever. Tell me that it’s not because I’m your friend and because Bella’s your crush.”
“I… I’ve never liked Bella. Not like that.”
I huffed in disbelief.
“But… I’m serious. Those Cullens… they may deny the blood of humans, but with time, they’ll grow weaker. They need human blood. It is the reason they exist. Blood will always be the first priority. Not love, not family, not traveling. Blood. And I say this with full honesty.”
I sighed, my heart sinking. A part of me believed him. And a part of me wanted to deny it. I already knew how difficult it was for Jasper to be in crowded situations. He tried his best, and I knew he was good, but it was in his nature to be bad. To kill.
But I still wanted him. I couldn’t deny that.
I could at least… hide it for now, though. I needed real distance from him. ‘They’re built to mystify and charm.’
I knew damn well Jasper was especially equipped with those skills.
“…Okay. I’ll think about that. Thanks, Jake.”
I pulled my hand away, ruffling his hair affectionately. He laughed unexpectedly, relief washing over his features.
“…Hey, can I drive you to school tomorrow?”
If it wasn’t for Jacob’s body warmth, I would’ve become an icicle on the ride to school. It stunned me, even despite his species, that he managed to be testy toasty all the time. He rolled up during the morning in a t-shirt and shorts. It was clearly to gloat his superiority, and he succeeded in making me very jealous.
I was more than relieved as he entered the school parking lot and pulled up to the steps. I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding in and shakily released my grip from his waist. I swung a leg over, and I stumbled, my legs not used to standing anymore.
Jacob smirked at me. But I cut him off before he could get a word in. “Stop looking at me like that,” I huffed. “It’s not my fault you’re blessed with warm genetics. Honestly, I never would’ve agreed if I knew you rode your motorcycle everywhere.”
Jacob laughed, kicking down the pedal and hopping off. We were given strange looks, and I noticed in particular Jasper’s glare from across the parking lot. I sent him a smile, which made Jacob peer back at the guy grimly. Before they could engage in a stare down, I punched Jacob in the arm playfully.
“Hey! Not here and not ever.  It’s ridiculous honestly.” I smiled innocently, knowing that he couldn’t really spew any opinions about the Cullens in public.
He rubbed the back of his neck. “But listen, you seriously need to talk to Bella about… that.”
I sighed, "As much as I’d love to, she doesn’t really… respect me. We both know I’m the dumb sister. It’d be better if you told her.”
Jacob frowned. “That’s hard to believe. After all, she’s the one with - and you’re - you know what I mean.”
“I appreciate the sentiment, but we both know I’m the dumb one,” I chuckled dryly. I noticed Jasper had pushed himself off the side of the jeep and was coming toward us. Jacob noticed, and he tensed. I snickered quietly, but just then, my snickers ceased because I noticed a grey sedan pull into the parking lot.
All eyes, including mine and Jacob’s were on Bella and Edward as they excited the car. Edward looked ecstatic and Bella, terrified. Edward had his arm wrapped around her. Jacob’s fists clenched as he stared at them. It certainly cleared things up in my head that Jacob had a thing for her.
He was a little biased. I kept that in mind as Jasper was suddenly beside me, throwing an arm around my shoulder and pulling me into his chest.
Jacob turned back to us, sneering. “God… get your hands off of her. Don’t think you’ll mind control her like your so-called brother did to Bella.”
Jasper wasn’t amused, but he faced me anyways. “Class is going to start and you’re freezing. Thanks for driving, mutt, but I’ll take it from here.”
I clicked my tongue in irritation, grabbing Jasper’s hand and bringing him closer. “Yeah, yeah. We don’t have time for this now. I’ll see you later, Jake.”
Jacob waves curtly, straining a smile. His fury was self-evident, though, as he hopped on his motorcycle and sped off, right by Bella and Edward.
I allowed Jasper to lead me to my locker, and as I fished through my stuff, he stood behind me like a loyal guard dog. I’ve asked Alice why she doesn’t walk with us anymore, and according to her, Jasper was relishing the ‘alone’ time.
I pulled out my books, turning to Jasper. For once, all the eyes weren’t on us, but instead, Bella and Edward. They were glued to each other’s sides. Even my eyes were drawn to the couple.
“It’s great, isn’t it?”
My gaze was drawn back to Jasper, who’s bangs had fallen in front of his eyes. I chuckled, drifting my fingers to tuck it behind his ears. “It is. I never thought Bella would be one for the spotlight. She tends to avoid it.”
“Edward’s had that affect… You know, despite what your mutt friend must think… Blood isn’t our top priority. It’s just food. Eating lunch isn’t your motivation in life, just like drinking blood isn’t our’s…” His voice was hushed, and only I could hear it, as his breath was fanning over my ear. “And if you’ll so let me, I want you to be my purpose. In fact… you already are.”
My cheeks reddened. “God, you’re so cute,” I muttered, caressing his cheek. “I’d kiss you, but I have a class to attend to.”
“But you hate school.”
“Not P.E.! I love my sister, but I love seeing a dodgeball pummeled into her face even more,” I argued, tucking my gym clothes underneath my arm.
“Ah-h-h. I should’ve known,” Jasper chimed, stepping away so that I could escape my locker.
“Mhm, you should’ve. I’ll see you later.”
~~~
I sat my tray down, and for the first time ever, all of my friends weren’t greeting me. Instead, they were staring over at the Cullen’s table, where Bella sat with Edward. I hummed expectantly, ignoring the scene. However, Angela finally greeted me, which made my friends notice my arrival.
“Y/n, oh my god! First you, now your sister!” Jessica groaned. “How did she manage that?”
“It was bound to happen eventually,” I answered with a shrug. “And no, Jasper and I aren’t actually dating yet.”
“Good. It means you’re still on the market,” Mike flirted with a wink. Us girls gave him unamused glowers. “But seriously, the only reason people are into them is because of their looks.”
“I second that. The Cullens are freaks. They think they’re better than everyone else,” Jessica ranted. “Honestly? I’d hate to be in your shoes. Jasper’s hot, but who knows what’s going on behind the scenes. He always looks like he’s in pain.”
I strained a smile. "Or maybe they’re just normal people that don’t talk to their classmates because they talk crap about them behind their backs.”
“She’s not wrong, guys,” Angela parroted. “We don’t even know anything about them.”
“Exactly! And they’ve been attending for three years now! What are we supposed to think? That they aren’t a super secretive cult?”
“Yes, actually. Alice is super nice and Jasper is… I could go on about him for hours,” I giggled, casting a knowing glance over my shoulder at him. He sent me a wink from his table, an exchanged shared only between the two of us.
Mike suddenly spoke up. “So, uh, Y/n. The winter formal’s only a month away. Since you think so highly of him, is Cullen your date?”
“Oh not yet!” I exclaimed. “But I’m sure he’ll ask me soon enough.”
“Then who is your date?” Mike prodded suspiciously.
I tilted my head in confusion. “Nobody yet. Why?”
“Because you already told me you had a date when…”
The memory clicked into place and I covered my mouth in embarrassment. “It’s nothing personal, Mike. I’ve told everyone that. I, uh, just knew Jasper was going to ask eventually.”
Mike let out a grunt of displeasure, and silence fell over the table. Jessica was regarding the two of us with suspicion, although she tried to fake a smile. Poor Eric and Angela were left to watch from the sidelines.
I wanted nothing more than to shrink into nothing. The remainder of lunch, Jessica was incredibly passive aggressive - both toward Mike and me - and classes were dull since school was only ever really fun once Wednesday morning hit and I could attend AP Literature. Also known as ‘pass notes with my potential vampire boyfriend for an hour’ class.
I stuck around talking with Tyler about our project after the last class of the day. I hoped I wasn’t keeping Bella waiting. But as I walked into the parking lot and saw the grey sedan exit, I remembered - Bella wasn’t going to drive me home. And I had no car. And I didn’t want to get frozen solid from riding on Jacob’s motorcycle.
So… all my friends had left already, my sister included. Dad was at work. I guess I was walking.
I shoved my hands in my pockets, my breath visible in the snowy air. I walked through the parking lot, shoving my earbuds into my ears. Some classmates waved and I waved back, but I made my way to the road.
And thus, I turned left. I knew the way home from driving. It only few twenty minutes. I could only hope it wouldn’t take any more than an hour to get back. After all, I was hungry and cold as hell. Music blasted in my ears, so much so that I didn’t sense the footsteps beside me until a minute after the thought.
I raised my head, gasping excitedly as I recognized him. It humored me that Jasper was so bundled up in clothing that he didn’t need. He even adorned fluffy pink earmuffs that Alice probably forced on him. I couldn’t help but laugh at his appearance, and he feigned offense.
“I’m being forced to wear these, you know.”
“I know, and I love it even more for that. Alice has great taste.”
He snickered. “I was forced to wear it because she saw the future. And was fretting how you didn’t have warm enough clothes on.”
“Ah. So she also knew I wouldn’t have a ride home, huh? I wish she’d given me a heads up.”
“I’m your ride home, am I not?”
My eyes widened. “I hadn’t considered that in the slightest. I didn’t realize humans - vampires could be used as cars.”
He rolled his eyes, reaching out to my bare hand and wrapping his gloved one around mine. The fabric masked his icy touch. “Vampires are, in fact, faster than cars. So, in a way, we’re better.”
“I can’t believe you used to literally manipulate my emotions to keep me from finding out when now you’re just promoting yourself in public,” I chuckled. “What, did Alice abandon you in your time of need? Surely she could’ve seen this coming.”
Jasper’s grasp on my hand tightened, and grew tense. “Her visions change depending on a person’s decision. She couldn’t see past our conversation in the forest. That meant could’ve gone either way.”
“…Oh.” Silence fell over us as we walked down the road. Cars occasionally passed, but other than that, it was just and the snow crunching under our boots. It wasn’t awkward, and yet, I yearned for more. I never thought slightly southern accents were attractive until I met Jasper, after all.
“Hey, uh, I know it’s a school night and all, but why don’t you come over for dinner? You can officially meet my dad. Bella’s been teasing me about you for ages and it’s driving him insane.”
“…You’re sure? But you realize I can’t eat human food, right?”
“Ah! Right, I forgot. Well, maybe come over ‘after’ we eat so we can have a movie marathon or something. If dad isn’t clogging the television, that is. I know some of my favorite rom-coms are going to be playing tonight.”
“That sounds more plausible,” he agreed. “I… can only hope he’ll like me.”
“Me too,” I tittered. “I know he’s expected some rough-around-the-edges bad boy. I’m not sure why he has that impression of me, though. I know damn well I have impeccable taste in guys.”
He chuckled lowly. “You’re still too cold.”
“There’s not much you can do about it, Mister ‘Cold One,’”I reminded him.
“I can always get you home faster.”
“And waste these precious moments with you? Never.”
He sighed, caving to my stubbornness. I shivered, but it was done so triumphantly. We continued on our way, passing by the series of houses. And, as silence fell over us once more, I grew to appreciate it. It gave me time to think about a great many deal of things.
What Jacob said resonated in me. Soulless, blood-sucking monsters.
But, as I looked at Jasper and he looked back at me, and I stared into his beautiful golden eyes, I knew Jacob was wrong. Other vampires were perhaps that way. But not my Jasper, nor the Cullens in general. And even if I wanted to convince myself otherwise, I knew I couldn’t.
We finally made it back to the house just as it was growing dark. That meant it had only taken an hour or two, but the time flew by. I couldn’t help but enjoy something as trivial as walking if Jasper was with me. He walked me to my doorstep.
I hovered outside and we simply faced one another. Jasper harbored his usual stoic yet vaguely enamored expression, and because I was on th step, we were currently the same height. I fluttered my eyelids flirtatiously. “Come back in an hour, okay? I can’t wait for you to meet dad.”
Speak of the devil and he shall appear, though. Charlie’s car pulled up the the side of the house, and I gaspd quietly. Jasper didn’t need to turn to know who it was due to his vampiric abilities. I clasped my hands together nervously, peering behind him as my father emerged from the police car.
He was usually slow and lazy, but he regarded us suspiciously and met us at the door. We were staring at him, and when I realized Jasper was just staring I started, "Hey, dad this is —"
Jasper shot his hand out for him to shake. “Jasper Cullen, sir. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Dad quirked a brow, eyeing him up and down. However, when they made eye contact, it was like his wariness dissolved. I thought for a moment that Jasper was just that charming, but then I remembered. Ah. So that’s why he wasn’t as terribly against meeting my dad, a regular human.
“Ah. I’ve heard a lot about you, Jasper,” he greeted, pulling his hand away and wiping it on his uniform. “Are you.. staying for dinner?”
Jasper shook his head. “No, sir. I was just dropping Y/n off from school.”
“I… see. And what exactly are your intentions with my daughter?” he investigated further.
I gasped in embarrassment. “Dad, no —"
Jasper just laughed. “I’m very interested in her, sir.”
My cheeks reddened and I covered my face up. I could feel my father’s glare on the both of us.
“And what exactly does that mean?”
“Geez, dad, we’re dating! You don’t need to be so hard on the guy,” I groaned. “I wish you were this hard on Bella. She’s dating Edward Cullen, you know.”
“Edward - ain’t that - she’s failed to mention that,” dad gruffly replied.
Jasper cleared his throat. “Well, I’ll be going. It was great meeting you, sir.”
“Uh, yeah, okay,” Charlie replied.
I waved him off and pulled dad into the house. I was rather giddy. Even though Jasper hadn’t made a shining impression, he’d made use of his abilities for something I actually approved of for once. The entire time while eating dinner - and watching dad grill Bella -, I eagerly anticipated Jasper’s arrival. However, several hours passed as I waited by the front door, and I eventually realized that he must’ve dipped. Maybe I shouldn’t have left my phone in my room.
I jogged upstairs and brushed my teeth. I got ready for bed, having no reason to stay up. It was only nine, sure, but this whole werewolf-vampire rivalry was exhausting to even think about.
I opened the door to my room, completely spaced out. I closed the door behind me, and when I turned back to my room, I let out a startled shriek of fright. Sitting on my bed, watching in slight amusement, was Jasper. He was no longer in his wooly attire, and in his hands he held a bouquet of f/f. He had a smug smirk on his face as he watched me catch my breath.
“Jesus Christ, Jas!  You could’ve given me a head’s up.”
And then he held up my phone, dangling it between his fingers. I sniffed in disregard, plopping on the bed stomach-first, groaning into my pillow to mask my flustered face. Jasper laughed, and I heard dad suddenly knocking on the door.
“Y/n? Is everything okay?”
“Yeah! It was just a bird —"
The door opened and I looked up from my pillow. Dad peered into my room, but it was safe to say that Jasper and the flowers had seemingly dissipated into thin air. He shut the door after bidding me a good night, which I returned.
I rolled onto my back, staring at the ceiling. “You seriously should’ve given me a head’s up,” I repeated with a firm pout.
Suddenly he was sitting next to me upright. His lanky legs extended out onto the bed and I assumed he’d put the bouquet on my desk or something.
“It would’ve ruined the surprise,” he answered.
“The surprise?”
He tilted his head, watching as I propped myself up on my elbows. Watched him with entranced eyes as he leaned on his side. His hair bounced from the movements. And his fangs barely peeked out from his lips. He had perfectly played dimples that have his face an even lovelier shape.
“Be my date for the winter formal.”
My cheeks flushed. “Is that a request or a demand, cowboy?”
“Both.”
“Then you already know my answer, peeping tom.”
“Ah-h-h. I see. My apologies for keeping you waiting. After all, you were the one who said you’d think things through.”
I clicked my tongue. “Yeah?  Well, I’m stupid and I don’t think things through. Ever. So-o-o, it’s your fault for actually expecting me todo that.”
“My bad, princess.”
I eyed him up and down. Desire welled up in my chest. He was so very close. Close enough to…
“Oh, screw you.”
I grabbed the collar of his loose white shirt, jeering him toward me. But, instead of dodging to his cheeks, I let our lips dance together for the first time. From how still he was, yet eager in how he scooted closer, it struck me as odd that an immortal vampire didn’t have much experience. So, I led him in the kiss, his lips chapped and soft.
He slowly pushed me back onto the comforter. He leaned over me, his chest pressing against mine. I groaned quietly, and that was enough for him to pull away. My lips chased him and my eyes fluttered open, but then his lips returned. Instead, he trailed butterflies across my jawline, each gentler than the previous.
My hands glided up his biceps, as his arms trapped me on both sides of my head. I arched my back in attempt to truly close off any personal distance between us. His tongue escaped his mouth and trailed all the way down to my collar bone. He pressed another soft kiss, and I quietly muttered his name. His hair tickled my face, and I grabbed at his muscular back desperately.
His movements ceased for but a moment. He dipped closer to me, and I thought nothing of it as his lips, fangs somewhat protruding, brushed against my lower neck. I hummed, feeling myself lull into a sense of tranquility. My passion and energy had sizzled out, replaced with a soft, pleasant, unidentifiable feeling. Butterflies were rampant in my stomach.
I heard thudding footsteps come upstairs. I thought nothing of it, assuming Bella or dad really had to do a number two. However, just as Jasper’s fangs brushed against them once more, my bedroom door burst open.
I shrieked again, but Jasper let out a snarl, his head rising. I recognized his blood orbs, and I followed his gaze. Standing in the doorway, panting and furious, was Jacob.
“Why, you filthy blood sucker…!”
He dashed over to the bed, reaching out for Jasper. However, he was instantly off me, panting with a mutual anger. He pressed himself against my dresser, and he was clutching the rim so tightly the wood splintered. I scrambled to sit up, the blanket watching on my foot.
But, because Jasper had dodged his advances, Jacob instead grabbed my wrist and tugged me to my feet with inhumane strength. I let out a quiet ‘oof’ as I collided with his broad chest, but that wasn’t enough. He tilted my head, showing my neck.
He suddenly let out an elongated sigh of relief, burying himself into me. I was still startled, and my shaky hands raised to pat his back.
“Damn it… I thought he changed you,” he growled under his breath.
“What - what are you talking about, Jacob?”
I heard a sudden whiz, and just like that, Jasper was gone as though he’d never been here. I pushed on Jacob’s chest, but only as much as he allowed. He held my hands to his chest, and my heart sped up expectantly. A desperate expression dawned his face.
“Y/n, you’re in denial. Please, don’t tell me he has that much control over you. I knew what he was trying to do the moment I sensed him.”
“What do you mean, change me?”
“He’s a filthy vampire, Y/n. What do you think I mean?”
I bit my lip. I didn’t… believe him. I didn’t know if I was supposed to. “We were literally just making out, though. It’s none of your business, Jake.”
He shook his head, his grasp on my wrists tightening, although I tried to pull away. “Y/n, no. You can’t tell me you didn’t see his eyes. You didn’t feel his teeth. I may not read minds like your sister’s disgusting boyfriend, but it doesn’t take a genius to know what he was thinking.”
I gulped down my disappointment. One of his hands drifting to my face, and he cupped my cheek, tilting it upward. In that moment, I saw how sincere he was. There was a disparity in his eyes that no man could fake. He want every word he said.
“But… Jasper wouldn’t do that.”
“He has before and you know that,” he insisted. “You’ve known him for what, half a year, and you think you know that blood sucker? Why do you trust him more than me? We’ve known each other since we were little. You know I’d never lie to you.”
“…Yeah, I know,” I responded, barely above a whisper.
“And just like I’d never lie to you, I’d never hide anything from you, either. Not like him.” I finally met his intense gaze, finding myself drown in his honey eyes. “And that’s why I have to tell you. It’s never been Bella. It’s always been you. Ever since we were kids, I… I’m in love with you, Y/n.”
My mind completely blanked and he dove forward, unexpectedly kissing me. But, just as quickly as his lips were against mine, he was torn away and crashed against the door. I covered my mouth as Jasper, more enraged and ragged than I’d ever seen him, threw Jacob away. Jacob immediately pounced, and it seemed that he’d suddenly grown ten times harrier.
Jasper was hunched, eyes completely blood shot, swarming with red and black. His nails had elongated indefinitely, and his fangs were very much on display. I shrunk back onto the bed as Jasper dodged out of the way, hands barely grazing Jacob’s forearm.
“What the hell is going on?”
My dad was standing in the doorway, and just like that, both of the boys returned to their normal state. The looked at me and dad worriedly. However, Jasper scowled, angrily motioning to Jacob. “This mutt kissed my girlfriend —"
“This blood sucker is a piece of crap —"
“Jesus Christ,” dad continued, rubbing his forehead. “Both of you, get out. And Jasper, if I see you in my house again, you’re dead meat. Got it? Now leave!”
Both became rather forlorn and crestfallen, still muttering under their breaths. I was still in shock from everything that went down in under ten minutes. No words were exchanged as they left, leaving only me and my very concerned father. And Bella, who’d obviously noticed something was awry.

I stood at my locker absent-mindedly. I wasn’t in the best of moods. Bella was off, supposedly breaking it off with Edward since a solid week had passed. While I was dodging Jacob and accepting Jasper’s continuous stream of gifts, Bella was getting to know her imprint, Leah, and struggling to make a decision.
I was over the betrayal enough to know that I had to talk to Jasper. But I wasn’t so over it that I wanted to surround myself with my friends. It’s not like I could tell them anything, as desperately as they longed for gossip. Hell, even summarizing it would be crazy. ‘Sorry, guys, I’ve been caught up in a werewolf-vampire love triangle.’
I would be institutionalized for that without doubt. So, instead, when they asked, I said that Jacob and I were only friends. And that Jasper and I were just staying away from the P.D.A. and focusing on school. Jessica was closest to me, despite her hard and somewhat bitchy exterior, and often asked me for more details. But I wouldn’t give anything up until things became semi-normal again.
I opened my locker, and gasped quietly. Today, instead of flowers or chocolates or a romantic letter, there was an adorable teddy bear. There was a tiny envelope tucked under its arm, and I picked it up. I flipped it open, my heart fluttering.
‘You made the right decision. I miss you. - Jas’
I sighed dreamily, putting it back in my locker for the time being. I grabbed my stuff.
I let out a gasp as I shut the locker, as Alice was leaning against it with a friendly grin. She had a knowing glint in her eyes and I sent her a strained smile, rather nervous to be chatting after brushing her off for such a long time.
“Hey, Alice,” I greeted tensely.
“No need to be so awkward! We’re friends, aren’t we?” she giggled, and my anxiety seeped away like water off a duck’s back. “Jasper and I were pretty much waiting it out, you know. Mutts aren’t any better than us ‘blood suckers.’”
“…Right,” I heaved. “I hate to ask you this, but… could you ask Jasper if we could meet up or something after school? I guess I owe him an apology.”
She grabbed my arm and linked us together as we started walking to class. “Oh, I already knew you’d ask that! So, don’t worry. He’ll pick you up after school. Or, if you’re feeling extra rebellious —"
“I don’t even need to hear the other option, Al,” I groaned. “I just… really want things to go back to normal. As normal as it can be with all this crappy drama going on. Speaking of which, how will Edward hold up?”
Alice’s smile faded. “Well… it’ll take a toll on him. He’ll probably leave fo a few months, years, before he decades to recuperate. He plans to work an… internship for the Valtori.”
“The Valtori?”
“Pretty much, our kind’s government,” she explained. “A select group of the strongest vampires work to make sure the various worlds stay in balance. Without them, the human race would be extinct.”
“Honestly, I’m surprised we’re not already.”
“Believe me, the world’s never been in a better place. And so far, I haven’t seen any signs of impending world doom. So, now that you and Jasper have this whole back and forth out of the way, things will go great for you two!”
“That doesn’t sound stressful at all,” I chortled.
“Oh! No pressure at all,” she corrected. “It’ll be an easy ride here on out now that that mutt’s out of the way.”
I clicked my tongue in annoyance as she pulled me into the AP Literature classroom. A sense of deja vu consumed me as I realized that Jasper was sitting in his normal spot and the chair beside him was pulled out expectantly. Alice was giggling like a madman as I wordlessly sat behind him, as I heard my fellow classmates point it out. Especially Jessica, who moved spots to sit beside me once more.
Jessica leaned over, staring expectantly. “So?” she hissed quietly, and I leaned over to her in return.
“We’re, uh, getting… back on track?” I muttered, not quite sure how to describe the change in plans.
“I knew it!” she chortled. “You two have definitely had sex and that’s why, right —?”
My face reddened instantly and I slapped her arm. She pulled away, a gleeful smile on her face. “Jesus, Jessica, shut up.”
“It’s not like they can hear us. But you’ve pretty much confirmed it for me.”
It’s not like I could admit that they could, in fact, hear what she was saying. Instead, I bowled lowering my voice even lower. “No, Jessica, we haven’t. We’ve just been taking our time —"
“But you are going to have sex, right?”  she prodded expectantly. “Like, Mike and I aren’t even dating, but after we went to the winter formal - which, you totally missed out on, by the way -, things got all heated and it was incredible —"
“Jess!” I hissed even louder, my face beat red. “Christ, you’ve already told me this. Several times. T.M.I.”
She grabbed me as I pulled away, but I sent her a playful glare. She just laughed and, as the teacher walked in, I buried my face in my hands in pure embarrassment. I could feel both Jasper and Alice’s gazes boring into me, and that made it even worse.
So, class time was spent recovering from the overwhelming shame Jessica thrusted upon me. While the rest was sending yearning glances Jasper’s way and occasionally catching him in the act of doing the same. This also happened during lunch, and Jessica, who couldn’t keep her big mouth shut, told everyone that just’ve been what was going on.
The day was pretty insufferable. However, as soon as the last class was let out, I forgot today’s contents and grabbed my things. I told Bella I’d be riding with Jasper - and I gave her a hug, too, since she was still heartbroken from breaking up with Edward - and she accepted it immediately.
As I waited by the road in anticipation, I knew that I’d have to have a girl’s night with Alice and Bella. Just to clear the air.
And then the grey sedan pulled up beside me. I steeled myself before opening the door and hopping in. Jasper, with a coy smirk, nodded to me. No words of small talk were exchanged. They weren’t necessary. Jasper knew where he was going, so I figured we’d start the conversation when we arrived at our destination.
I was still cuddling the cute teddy bear to my chest as he pulled up an offshoot that led up a mountain ridge. The scenery changed and my ears popped from the higher altitude. As dead, but growing, spring trees surrounded us and the road grew continuously more gravelly, he eventually parked.
He peered at me, his expression as gentle as I’d always known it to be. “Shall we, sweetheart?”
I nodded, butterflies swarming in the pit of my stomach. I abandoned the gift in the car and shut the door behind me. It was right to have brought a jacket with me because the air was rather chilly up here. We were surrounded by nothing but woodland, the ground dead and brown.
Jasper extended a hand to me, and I took it. He was cold. Of course he was. But I longed for every minute of every day. If I spent a lifetime of getting sick because of his body temperatures, the trade-off would be worth it. Luckily, I had yet to experience any illness because of it.
He pulled me closer, and shivers rolled down my spine. My cheeks became flushed in anticipation. He led me somewhat up the ridge, but he halted. “This will take all day, darling. You don’t mind if I…?”
“If you…?”I prodded.
Instead of continuing, I was suddenly up in the air. I let out a squeak, adrenaline coursing through my veins. Jasper had lifted me and was clutching me to his chest. My hands immediately found themselves gripping at his loosely fitting shirt, and it was like the word around me was but a blur.
I got quite the headache from the sheer speed of his movements. I buried my face in his chest, and I heard a quiet chuckle emit from his Southern vocals. The wind was whipping at my face and hair like it was nothing, but he eventually came to a halt.
I raised my head, fluttering my lashes at him. I looked around the scenery, my heart immediately bounding in my chest. The sight was beautiful.
We were atop a mossy ridge, close to the edge of a cliff. I wasn’t the fondest of heights, but the view was impeccable. The mountains rolled over, pine trees decorating the lower altitudes. Splitting the mountains was a calm river, the prettiest shade of blue I’d ever seen. And, for the first time, the sun was out. I always thought he was allergic to it, but it just peaked my curiosity.
“Its…” I trailed off.
“Isn’t it?”
He gently sat me on my feet, but his arms were still secured around my waist. He propped his head on mine, nuzzling against me. I leaned back, pressing into him, as I gazed at the view.
I shielded my eyes as the sun beamed down on us frivolously. Still, no conversation started, but in concern, I turned to Jasper, pressing my chest against his.
Instead of seeing my… boyfriend set aflame like vampire always were in the novels, his skin was that of diamonds. He sparkled, every inch of flesh blinding me with its beauty. My hand reached toward his cheek, my fingers ghosting over his pale features.
“And yet you never mentioned this until now,” I gawked.
He tilted his head smugly. “Maybe I would’ve if you weren’t stressing out about the mutt.”
My heart fell in my chest. “It’s…whatever. It’s not important anymore. I’d rather not have that mentioned, seeing as it was a huge embarrassment for me.”
Jasper’s mouth twitched, and he dipped down, placing a kiss against my forehead. I leaned into it, focusing on the sensation rather than the many worries I harbored within me. When he pulled away, he ledge over to a mossier part of the rocks and ushered me to sit down. I did so and he followed suit.
I supposed that the distance did me good. All of the negativity I’d harbored toward the vampire was gone, and I was left only with pure adoration. My hands held me upright and I leaned onto Jasper’s chest. He was still dazzling, but my attention returned to the view as I tried to gather my thoughts.
“I’m… sorry.”
“Don’t be, princess,” he replied immediately, not an ounce of resentment in his voice. “I was being… pushy. But. It’s always hard to control myself when mu - werewolves are around. Especially moronic ones like he is.”
“You’re telling me,” I chuckled dryly. “I just… he sounded so sure of himself. I couldn’t help it.”
“I understand. There’s nothing to feel sorry about.”
“I should’ve just went with my gut from the beginning,” I confessed. “It’s been you Jasper. It always has been. Even when Jacob was being so affectionate and sweet, I wanted it to be you in his place. You’re what I want, Jas. I just… I just didn’t want you to be what I want.”
“You think I wasn’t terrified when Alice first came to me and told me you were coming? I was scared,” he admitted. “I was scared that, because you were a human, things would be difficult. But, if fate is real, then it was real the moment I realized I couldn’t smell your blood. I couldn’t hear your heart pumping. All of my instincts that scream for human blood vanished the moment I met you.”
I smiled, nuzzling up against him. All of my concerns were obsolete. Nothing. They had vanished, never there to begin with. And as I felt his cold flesh against mine, all of the pieces fell into place.
“Y/n,” he muttered affectionately.
I lifted my head and cupped his sparkling cheek. “Yes, Jas?”
His lip twitched. “I love you.”
Instead of returning the sentiment - even though I knew I reciprocated his feelings -, I pressed my lips against his. There was longing in his kiss and he returned it instantly. We danced with one another, our mouths molded perfectly for the other. He suddenly pulled away, though. And, just like last time, his eyes were ruby red. This time, though, I didn’t worry.
“I know you feel the same way.”
“I do,” I giggled. “But after the hell you and Jake put me through, you’ll have to endure not hearing it for a while.”
He feigned offense, a low purr escaping his lips. “Fair enough.”
As I gazed into his blood orbs, I sighed, pressing my forehead against his. “God, I missed you, Jas.”
“You already know I’ve missed you just the same. Does that mean I’m forgiven?”
“There’s… nothing to forgive now. Just stop getting caught in that stupid rivalry.”
“No promises.”

I painted on the f/c nail polish on my toes, the moisture from the face mask Bella and I adorned relaxing. In the end, the girl’s night I arranged was better off as a sister’s night. I’ve heard horror stories of other sibling pairs and they sounded like hell, but Bella and I were best friends. She was more than happy to spend the evening in my room with a bowl of popcorn, a manicure kit, and lots of gossip spill.
“I’m not sure how you keep managing to convince me to paint my nails,” Bella hummed "when I already know I’ll bite off the polish in under a day.”
“It’s the thought that counts, dear sister. And this time, if the coat lasts even a day I’ll count it as a win.”
Bella laughed, color rising to her cheeks. She was painting her nails blue since it was her favorite color. The colors with less pop suited her personality and style, so I never tried to convince her to use any of my personal favorites.
“You know,” she suddenly spoke up, "I think Jessica’s ecstatic that Edward and I broke up. She’s a nice girl, but she wears her jealousy on her, uh, sleeve.”
“Doesn’t she?” I chided in agreement. “She was buzzing when she found out. And she didn’t even find out from me. She actually thought that I didn’t know and told me everything as if I didn’t know anything about it. The girl’s kind of crazy.”
“Sometimes, I wonder if she even likes Mike,” she laughed. “I mean, we’re all obsessed with the Cullens, but she’s so obsessed, you know? I now you two are best friends, but I just know she’s hoping that you and Jasper break up, too.”
“Well, it’s a shame, because that’s not happening anytime soon. Especially now that Jasper is officially my boyfriend. I’ve never seen him so ecstatic. He’s actually been talking to his fellow classmates just to find a chance to brag about him dating me.”
Bella cooed, accidentally painting her actual toe. “That’s so cute! I love that for you guys. Like, I can’t stress enough how cute you two are. I already know you haven’t mentioned this to dad, though.”
I tittered nervously. “…Well, with everything we mentioned on the Cullens, I can literally hear him cocking his rifle in his head. I’m still waiting for the right time to mention it, ya know?”
“Yeah, it’s understandable.”
I pursed my lips, deciding to bring up a more sorrowful topic. “…So, how are things going with Leah? Especially now that Edward’s gone?”
“Really good. I feel terrible for Edward because what we had was good, but there wasn’t any real chemistry. It was just base, uh, attraction. But with Leah, even though she’s kind of rough around the edges, I can talk and do anything with her for hours. Like, I think I want to ask her to be my girlfriend so I can officially introduce her to dad. Do you think he’d take it well?”
“At this point, it would be an upgrade from a Cullen no matter what in his mind,” I quipped. I noticed her unease, though, and swooped in to reassure her. "But, nah, seriously, he’s so chill. He’d be happy for you. It’s a new century and you two are literally soulmates.”
Bella flushes she dipped the brush into the tiny jar. “I’m sure of it. The only thing that’s annoying, though, is you. Know how I stop by the reservation, like, every day, yeah? Jacob’s been bothering me none stop ever since that night. He’s trying to get to you through me and - thank god for Leah and her temper - he never shuts up until Leah loses it and tells him to piss off.”
“…Right, Jake. I may be obsessed with Jasper and always have been, but I’m still kind of reeling from the betrayal.”
“I know you are. It’s why I haven’t gone easy on him. I even yelled at him once, and you know I have the patience of a saint.”
“Aw, you’d do that for me?” I squealed, finally letting my f/c nails dry. Bella sent me a coy smile as we both finished up. “But, anyways, prom is right around the corner —"
“It’s two months away —"
“And you have to ask Leah to go with you eventually! It’ll be so romantic. Think about how cute it would be to just brood in the corner together and complain about how much you hate it there!”
Bella broke into a fit of laughter. “Screw you, sis. I’m not that much of an outcast. And why should I ask Leah when Jasper hasn’t even asked you yet? It’ll at least be a month before it’s time to officially start asking.”
“I know-w-w, but I’m just so excited! I completely flaked on the winter formal and it’ll be my last dance in high school. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to romantically dance with my lover at prom and you know that.”
“Indeed, I do.”
~~~
I pulled Jasper into my bedroom, and the moment the door closed behind me, I burst into laughter. Jasper was regarding me anxiously, still shaking in his boots from the redo-introduction with my father. After a month of officially being together ‘in secret,’ I convinced Jasper to come over and talk things out with my dad. Of course, things would’ve gone far worse if not for his ability, but even so, my dad gave him a stern talking-to.
“It was a hundred times worse for me than it was for you, so I’m not sure why you’re laughing,” he playfully huffed, sitting on the edge of the bed.
I sat beside him and wrapped my arms around his strong torso. I snuggled against him, beaming from ear to ear. “I’m laughing because I just love seeing you suffer, cowboy. I thought you’d know better by now.”
“I guess maybe I should, seeing as you put me through hell for half of the school year,” he remarked.
I laughed again, leaning up to give him a quick kiss. However, when I pulled away, he kept my head in place, passionately lacing our lips together. I moaned in satisfaction as he finally pulled away, my eyes fluttering open. A demure expression passed over his handsome face.
“What is it, Jas?”
He licked his lips, his fangs barely peeking out. His eyes flitted around the room anxiously. I hummed in anticipation.
“Would you do me the honor of accompanying me to prom?”
Giggles erupted in my throat and I threw my arms around his neck. His nose scrunched up as I gave him kisses all over his face, leaving no spot un-kissed. I finally pulled away, unable to repress my grin. “Of course, Jas. You’ve been torturing me with how long it took you to ask.”
He quirked a brow. “There’s still a month before, though.”
“Yeah, but you know how much of a romantic I am! You should’ve been planning to ask since the day we met,” I sighed dramatically.
“Believe me, I’ve already spent dozens of lifetimes waiting to find you. We have eternity to spend together. There’s no need to rush.”
I furrowed my brows. “Oh, right. I didn’t realize changing me has been on your mind. Has… Alice seen it?”
He slowly nodded, pressing his forehead against mine. “And I can tell you exactly what happens before, too,” he teased.
“Oh? And what would that be?”
“Well, allow me to set the scene,” he began passionately. “We're underneath a starlit gazebo. We’re in the wilderness, only us and the sky. We’d be swaying and dancing. It’s the most perfect scene. You tilt your neck to me and we share a final kiss. And just like that, I sink my teeth into you and do the honors, solidifying that we’d have forever and a day to be in love…” He trailed off thoughtfully, a starry, dreamy look in his eyes.
“A gazebo… Thank god for that,” I chuckled. “It must be a little far away since prom is being hosted at a casino and all that. It wouldn’t matter anyways, since you’d never change me without my permission.”
“Right you are, darling. Right you are.”
He suddenly tensed, pushing me away and rising to his feet. He faced the window, his fists clenched and he body hunched. Confused, I stood behind him, peering over his shoulder.
Low and behold, two hands grabbed the window edge, and hoisting himself up, was Jacob. He was a sweaty, hot mess as he pulled himself inside. And, surprisingly, as he glared at Jasper, he wasn’t nearly as hostile as I’d expected him to be.
“I thought I smelled dog,” Jasper hissed.
Jacob scowled deeply before flitting his gaze to me. “As much as I’d love to tear you apart, vampire, I’m not here for you. I’m here for her.”
Jasper grew even tenser, but I grabbed his shoulder. “It’s fine, Jas… I guess I can’t avoid him forever, can I?”
Jacob looked offended at my dismissiveness, but Jasper turned to me. He was still visibly on edge, and I sent him a reassuring smile. Instead of bidding me a good-bye, he swooped in and possessively pushing his lips against mine. I squeaked in surprise, but didn’t push him away. A moment later, he pulled away, and just like that, vanished.
Jacob was visibly pissed, but I couldn’t help but wonder if some of the anger was toward himself. He kept clenching and unclenching his fists, taking a step closer. “I know I messed up, Y/n. But that’s no reason to return to that blood sucker.”
I smiled pitifully, tilting my head. “Jake, it’s always been him. Just like it’s fate for us to be together, as Alice predicted, it’s fate that you’ll find your imprint, too. Eventually.”
“Exactly, as Alice predicted,” he argued defensively. “Then she should know better than anyone that fate can change. That you can choose me, the same as I’ve chosen you.”
I grew weary and my joy faded. I shook my head. He took a step closer, but I held my arms up. He pressed himself against my hands, but drew no closer. “Jacob, it’s just a phase. It never would’ve worked between us because I would’ve always longed for him and you would be missing your imprint. And, in time, you’ll realize it’s for the best.”
He lowered his head, hair covering his eyes. His entire body was shaking. “…Please.”
“Jake, you’re my friend.”
“Just - tell me, that with all of his irrepressible flaws, that you love him and that you don’t love me. Say it and… I’ll leave.”
I didn’t skip a beat as I lowered my hands. I noticed that tears dripped from his cheeks, but I felt nothing but pity for him.
“I love him, Jake. I love Jasper. And I don’t love you. I never have and never will. You’re nothing more than my friend.”
Silence. It was deafening. Torturous, even.
And then, he raised his head, meeting me with a fiery gaze.
“…Fine. But just know this. I will never stop fighting for you until your heart stops beating.”
And, with that said, he leapt back out my window, leaving me to digest his words.
Dear (Name),
This is new to us. Everything pertaining to this situation is new to us. We have never felt as intensely as we do now. Except possibly in the very beginning of our being turned, still we do not remember it being to this magnitude.
It has always been me and Jane. Jane and I. We have only ever had each other. We have only needed one another. However, after centuries we have been plagued by some kind of oddity deep within us.
We could not place our finger on just what had overcome us. That is until me met you. We knew right away. The way we watched you play, laugh, talk to the Cullen’s spawn. We...wanted that.
We wanted all of it for ourselves.
For forever, all we needed was each other but now we wanted something more. Someone more. We wanted to feel whole once again. You make us feel just that.
Whole.
And now we ask of you....
(Name), would you...be our friend?
- J & A
