The Plight of Pride

During and after Pride month and events every year, I hear many interesting things. I understand that you may have concerns and questions about Pride events and the LGBTQ2S+ community.

Do you know why Pride was formed? Or why it continues to exist today? 

Pride originally emerged as a response to the systemic discrimination, violence, and marginalization of LGBTQ2S+ individuals. From denial of service at businesses to being jailed for being gay, losing your job, and more. Pride provided a safe space to come together, celebrate identities, and demand equal rights and acceptance in society. Pride has always been about fostering inclusivity, promoting visibility, and advocating for the basic human rights that everyone deserves.

So why is it still necessary? Surely we’ve gotten past all that, haven’t we?

Let's address the misconception that LGBTQ2S+ individuals are constantly forcing their identities on others. It's important to recognize that Pride events and other awareness initiatives are not about imposing anything on anyone. They are held as a response. A response to the ongoing discrimination and threats to LGBTQ2S+ rights that persist in our society. Last year alone, a staggering 240 bills were proposed in the United States with the intent to strip away rights from LGBTQ2S+ people. Think about that. Even one bill could have life-altering consequences, yet last year there were 240. Similar challenges have been seen in Canada and many other countries. And when faced with such attacks on their rights, it becomes necessary for queer individuals to stand proud and assert their identities in the face of adversity. And that fight can’t be won without allies.

The goal is not to need events like Pride.

If we genuinely want Pride and other awareness events to diminish, we must understand the cause and effect at play here. Being an ally in the fight for equitable rights for all is crucial. When we achieve a society where everyone is truly equal and respected, events like Pride won't be necessary. By standing up against discrimination and advocating for equal rights, we can work towards a more inclusive society. Sadly, many of us don’t understand that and decide to do more harm than good with our time, attention, and voices.

Why not 'straight pride?'

Events like 'straight pride' and other reactionary movements do more harm than good. They do not recognize anyone’s struggle or any community’s adversity. No. And they aren’t formed out of a deep love for a culture either; let’s be honest. They are reactionary, ignorant, and bigoted. If you think you should have straight pride then you either don’t understand why Pride is even necessary, or you’re straight-up hateful. Initiatives like ‘straight pride’ perpetuate and normalize homophobic and other bigoted rhetoric, further marginalizing and devaluing the struggles of LGBTQ2S+ individuals. I have even heard people complaining that we should have holidays and celebrations for veterans instead. But these folks aren’t putting their energy into the veterans they claim to love; if they were, they would realize that holidays, months, and other events for veterans already exist (a simple google away). It’s not about veterans, though. Or straight pride. It’s about hate, intolerance, and discomfort, or sometimes worse: ignorance and apathy.

Said another way, straight people don't need 'Straight Pride.' 

No one is denying straight people services because they’re straight.  No one is telling straight people they’re an abomination because they’re straight.  No one targets straight people with hate because they’re straight. No court decides if you have the right to love because you are straight. No court decides if you have the right to exist because you are straight. No country is jailing you because you are straight. So again, if you support 'straight pride' or think you need it, you 100% miss the point.

It's essential to recognize that Pride is not about superiority or exclusion; it's about equality and acceptance. It's about acknowledging the diverse experiences and identities within our society and creating a world where everyone can live authentically without fear. Right now, people can’t. So we defend. If you want Pride, other events, social media campaigns, or any of it to stop, then help stop the hate.

We have Pride to raise awareness, normalize LGBTQ2S+ identities, and combat ignorance. It's important to remember that in certain areas, LGBTQ2S+ individuals are still fighting for their lives. Discrimination, violence, and mental health disparities disproportionately affect queer individuals, and Pride serves as a reminder of the progress that still needs to be made.

Empathy is key to understanding the struggles faced by marginalized communities. Put yourself in their shoes—imagine living in a society that doesn't fully accept or recognize your identity. Try to reflect on the impact of discriminatory legislation and its implications on real people's lives. What if you could be jailed? Weren’t allowed to marry? Could lose your job for being who you are? Were the subject of foul hate and harm just for existing? By embracing empathy and education, we can strive for a society that celebrates diversity and ensures equal rights and opportunities for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or the many other identifying factors that make us human.

Due to that post I made re: why it's hard for aros/aces to imagine a future for themselves because society tells you a romantic partner will always take priority, a lot of people (aros/aces and allos alike) are sharing stories about how they have been discarded by their close friends and it's breaking my heart. But allos and aspecs coming in and sharing how they have the same amount of love for their partners and their best friends/siblings is healing it.

Still, there are people in the tags saying that aros/aces can "never offer their partners the kind of intimacy they need" and so they shouldn't be "surprised" when they feel closer to partners than their friends. You guys are missing the point.

The point is that we should NOT be ranking our relationships. People aren't there to be ranked on a scale of "This person is my number one and this person comes after that." The point is that you need multiple people in your life. One person cannot - and should not - be responsible for giving you everything you need. Different people will give you different things that you need in life and you should value all of them.

The idea that a romantic partner will give you every single thing you need in life is a toxic idea in itself and puts undue pressure on said partner and the relationship as a whole. A best friend won't give you everything either. You NEED multiple people in your life and they will all give you a part of what you need, but there is no one perfect person out there who perfectly gives you exactly what you want. We need multiple people and they should all be valued by you. Love is not limited.

Like how you wish their relationship should be portrayed today and where are them missing when it comes to making those two acting like siblings?

How Dick views Jason and how Jason views Dick?

This is difficult to answer because there are like 8 different stages to Dick and Jason's relationship with various dynamics. They also view each other a bit differently depending on which stage we're talking about.

The way I would like their relationship to be portrayed today isn’t necessarily possible thanks to Jason’s integration into the family and acceptance of the no killing moral code. For me, their ideal dynamic is portrayed in Outsiders #44-46. And I know people are gonna find that regressive as hell but, tbh, that dynamic is far more interesting than the kinda awkward thing they have going on now.

Although, I don't mind that they acknowledge their brotherhood in a serious manner now. Like before they'd kinda be like, "Eh... I mean... we were adopted from the same guy but... brothers? Eh..." And now they're more firmly in the, "We're brothers," camp. So that development is interesting.

Character progression wise, it wouldn't feel right for for them to be super close in the way that, say, Dick and Tim are (unless we saw a lot of trust and relationship building between them), but at the same time, there is part of me that kind of wants them to have that older sibling bond (except Jason is closer in age to Tim than he is to Dick sooo actually let's just leave older sibling things to Dick and Cass... not that Cass is much older than Jason though so LOL this is why Dick has to lone the oldest sibling thing by himself... which is funny because Dick is technically no longer the oldest sibling, he's a baby brother now... except Dick and Melinda's relationship really hasn't progressed much sooo you could say they share blood but don't consider each other family yet, in which case, Dick is still the oldest... I mean, regardless, Dick is the oldest sibling of the Waynes... god why did they have to make all of this so difficult 😫).

Ok I’m going to say this right here and right now. I am not trying to defend or soften this woman’s actions. I know that Ugi’s awful takes and tracing were just straight up infuriating. I despise art tracers to a T. But the last thing I would do to that tracer, is fucking doxx them and just pull straight up lies out of my ass as an excuse to release their information.

I kept seeing mutuals of mine get harassed by these chronically online children who keeps sending them Ugi’s address and spread allegations against her that aren’t even true in their ask box.

As far as we are aware she isn’t a pedo nor “rapist.” Not only do we not know anything about this woman at all besides her pathetic attempts at tracing. But we also, can’t fully say these things with our full chest without full proof. 

And before you say some dumb shit, no her drawings aren’t proof enough for those claims. Trust me it’s down right disturbing to see them but that’s not enough proof for them allegations you spread around.

I swear some of you children need to stop pulling these words out of your ass. People like you who keep saying shit like this makes those words loose its meaning. Not only that but you’re just reaching for the stars just to throw more dirt at this woman.

i have a very stupid problem that is causing me a very stupid amount of distress. my aunts are planning my baby shower which will be in my home city (a place where none of my friends live). we are inviting a bunch of family and tbh it's solely so i can get stuff from my registry. i feel okay about that part because i've bought gifts for all the extended family baby showers and weddings over the years and it seems fine to be like 'ok now it's my turn i really need the help.' the part that is making me feel weird is that my aunts feel strongly that i should ALSO send invites to all of my out of town friends, including college and grad school friends, because those people might send me gifts too. i think that a lot of my friends WILL end up buying something from my registry or sending something (a lot of them have asked already!) and that's very nice of them!!! and i do think i might want to send a birth announcement or something later just as a "hey! a big thing happened in my life!" kinda thing. but i feel super uncomfortable sending out invites to an event i know they can't attend (and would never expect them to fly to a random city for!!) because then it just feels obvious that i'm asking for a gift instead, and that makes me feel bad!!! but also idk my brother and SIL just had a MASSIVE shower where like 50+ of their friends came (because they went to college in our hometown and all their friends still live there) and my cousin just had a big shower too (she lives and works in our hometown) so i also just feel dumb for like. having a very small kinda lame shower where my extended family is gonna be like oh... does she not have any friends?

Like it It looks like Hawtorne is– #blaming Fitzgerald for Mitchell's condition (both in health and for her family status) but... #Objectively neither of those things are Fitzgerald's fault?
