The trope I'm exploring with Space Crowd Saturday existed before Star Wars, but 'A New Hope' still stands as the biggest popularizer of the concept. Here's Ralph McQuarrie's Mos Eisley Cantina art.

Cameraman Mohammed Yaqoubi writes on his Instagram story,
Hunger is indescribably severe in northern Gaza. No flour. No feed. No canned food. No necessities for life. No water. No fuel. No life. The situation has reached a stage of extreme danger for all citizens without exception. Whoever did not die from the bombing will die from hunger!!

The Tragedy Of War
Tumblr media
This back-lit scene was taken close to noon and converted to monochrome in post. A 2/3 stop of positive exposure compensation was applied to retain some shadow details.

anakin skywalker
[id: it's a half-body drawing of Anakin Skywalker holding his lightsaber in his prosthetic hand while his other hand is held before him in an offensive stance. He is drawn with brown skin that is littered with freckles and brown locs which are tied back. He wears his usual dark brown and black Jedi robes from Revenge of the Sith. /end id]

The Morning after...
Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine hasn't vanished. Once again we spent last night in the corridor, away from the windows and the shattering glass. The historic centre of Odesa, where I live, is covered with scars that are getting bigger and bigger. The Odesa National Fine Arts Museum, a cosy art gallery, which turns 124 years old today, was attacked by russian missiles and shaheds. There is pain and wrath instead of celebration. And the best antidepressant for me - a walk in the park on a sunny November day.

Oleksandra Kostetska, widow of a fallen Ukrainian soldier Kostyantyn Miroshnichenko, did a photoshoot with the same photographer who took their pictures as a couple.
"I will show you my new reality. As a widow. Igor Yefimov, you started photographing us as a couple at the beginning of our relationship, now you have taken the end for me. Mirosh [Kostyantyn's military call sign] taught me a lot, now the last lesson is to live without him and remain strong. But it's hard without his warmth/smile/laughter/hugs/bedtime talks, and my favorite, running my fingers across his cheeks and stroking his beard. I love, but now I am not loved".

Yet another IOF atrocity in northern Gaza today.
Earlier in the day, a very, very small shipment of flour entered north Gaza. The shipment was pathetically small, apparently one van and one truck for 800,000 people. People gathered on the beach by the thousands, hoping to get a bag of flour to take home and feed their families. Gazans know that gathering in large groups and/or in open spaces makes them especially vulnerable to Israeli snipers and bombardment. They choose to risk their lives anyway because the alternative is starvation. Nooh Al-Shaghnobi shows a fraction of the massive crowd in this photo.

The IOF has been targeting Civil Defense workers, so crowd control and efficient distribution were impossible. People scrambled for the smallest scrap of aid, but the vast majority would receive nothing. Many people continued to wait even after the aid was gone. The shore was packed with thousands of desperate, starving people when the IOF opened fire on them. At least five people were trampled to death due to the chaos.
