Love is Kind
All of the stories I was reading today were sad Steve and it made me cry so I wrote happy Steve to make me feel better.

Jeana looked down at the purple water lilies in Steve's hand in distaste.
"Water lilies?" she asked, frowning. "Not red roses?"
Steve looked at her in confusion. "Yeah, your favorite flower in your favorite color."
"Yeah," she agreed, reluctantly taking the flowers. "But red roses are more romantic for Valentine's Day."
Steve went from wilting in disappointment to her reaction, to standing up straight with a spine of steel. "Oh I get it now." He took bouquet back from her forcefully. "Yeah, we're done."
Jeana's eyes went wide. "You're breaking up with me on Valentine's Day over a bunch of flowers?"
"No, Jeana," he said coldly. "We're done because you didn't tell me you wanted red roses. I assumed that the cheaper more personal water lilies would be the perfect thing for Valentine's Day."
Jeana winced.
"Ohhh..." Steve said, "I get it now. You wanted the Harrington money." He rubbed his fingers together. "Despite the fact that I work at a book store. That I told you when we first started going out that I had been kicked out."
Jeana rolled her eyes. "You still wore nice clothes and had fancy hair products in your bathroom, like I was supposed to believe that obvious lie?"
"I save for those!" Steve hissed. "I can't use anything else for my hair, I've tried. And yeah, so sue me for buying something nice once in a while."
She peeked around him to see the table was set with romantic candles and another bouquet of water lilies. "You weren't even going to take me out to eat?"
Steve tossed the flowers on the counter behind him. "Why else would I have you come here instead of picking you up?"
Jeana threw her arms in the air. "I thought you were supposed to be this Romeo, this Casanova."
Steve's nostrils flared. "Out!"
She stomped her foot and crossed her arms. "I'm not going anywhere until we talk this through!"
"There is nothing to talk about," Steve said, spinning her around and pushing her toward the door. "You were expecting me to shell out a shit ton of money on you, money you thought I was hiding from you. It's clear you were never interested in me, only the money and prestige the Harrington name brought you."
He opened the door and shoved her through it. "Goodbye."
He slammed the door behind her and gripped his hair tightly. Not enough to pull but just enough to feel pain at pressure of his tugging.
Now he had dinner that was about to be ready in ten minutes, no girlfriend, and a dessert he had slaved over all day.
He needed to call someone to share this with. Robin was doing Valentine's with Vickie so she was out.
Then his eyes lit up. He knew exactly who to call.
He walked over to the phone and dialed.
"Hello, Munson's Funeral Parlor, you tag 'em, we bag 'em," the warm baritone came through the line.
"Eddie!" Steve said with a giggle.
"Stevie!" Eddie greeted back. "To what to I owe this pleasure?"
"How goes your anti-consumerism night in?" Steve asked, avoiding Eddie's question.
"Eh..." Eddie said. "Could be better. I'm watching violent movies to make myself feel less lonely."
Steve chewed on his bottom lip. "I have a warm lasagna, fresh breadsticks, and a nice bottle of wine and suddenly sans a girlfriend if you wanted to have some company."
"What happened with Jeana?" Eddie asked.
Steve sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "She didn't want me, she wanted the Harrington money, the King Steve charm, and a Casanova, not Steve Harrington who works at a queer little book shop in the middle of town."
"Well, fuck her," Eddie said. "Her loss. You bet I'll be there, sweetheart. Just give me time to put on my shoes and I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Thanks, Eds."
*
Steve opened the door a few minutes later to find that Eddie somehow had found sunflowers in the middle of fucking winter.
“Where are on earth did you find these, Eds?” Steve asked, breathing in the scent of his favorite flower.
Eddie tapped his nose knowingly. He spotted the water lilies in the vase on the table and dumped them in the trash. He replaced them with Steve’s sunflowers.
“There, that livens up the place better,” he said, turning to Steve, “don’cha think?”
Steve smiled back at him. “Yeah it really does.”
He went and made up their plates as Eddie opened the wine. He set them down on the table while Eddie filled their glasses. Steve trotted back to the kitchen and pulled out the breadsticks that were warming in the oven. He put them in a nice basket a covered them with a towel. He set them on the table between Eddie and him.
“This looks fantastic, Stevie,” Eddie murmured and dug into the lasagna. “Ooh. This is better than fantastic. This is divine.”
Steve hurried to take a sip of his wine to hide the flush of pleasure at the compliment that dusted his cheeks. And judging from the smirk on Eddie’s face, he hadn’t been successful at all.
“So what were you watching before I interrupted you?” he asked, blush still staining his cheeks.
“Chinatown.”
Steve grimaces. “That is pretty violent. A little depressing too.”
Eddie shrugged, stabbing another bite of lasagna. “Was kind of the point. Didn’t want anything happy or romantic today.”
Steve picked up his glass and held up to Eddie. “I’ll drink to that.”
Eddie laughed, but clinked their glasses together and drank when Steve did.
They polished off all of the breadsticks, all of the wine, and about half of the lasagna. Steve put the leftovers in the fridge.
“You want a soda or something?” he called from the door of the fridge.
“I’ll take a beer if you have one,” Eddie called back from the sofa.
Steve grabbed two beers and handed one of the cans to Eddie.
“I thought you preferred bottles, babe,” Eddie said, popping open the can.
“I do,” Steve muttered darkly. “They were Jeana’s.”
Eddie cackled. “Here’s to stealing your ex’s shitty beer!”
Steve laughed too. “Cheers!”
Eddie went over to Steve’s record player and put on some Metallica he’d left over here and then flopped back on the sofa next to Steve.
“Thanks for coming over,” Steve murmured over the screaming riffs of Master of Puppets. “Rob is over at Vickie’s tonight and didn’t want to ruin her Valentine’s day, too.”
Eddie smiled softly. “And since I refuse to participate in the rampant consumerism of the day, there would be nothing for you to ruin.”
Steve chuckled. “That and you’re my best friend. I couldn’t think of anyone else I’d want to spend it with.”
This time it was Eddie’s turn to blush and he shoved a lock of hair in front of his face to hide the redness of his cheeks. He pushed playfully at Steve’s shoulder. “Fuck off. I’m sure there are lots of people you could have called that would have come running.”
“Rob was first pick,” Steve said, “you were second. I mean it, Eds. I wanted to share everything I’d done for her with you instead.”
Eddie’s blush reached his ears and stained the column of his throat. “You keep that shit up and this boy is going to start thinking impure thoughts.”
Steve blinked for a moment before he laughed. It wasn’t a harsh or hurtful laugh. It was bright and cheerful. “You put out on the first date, Eds?”
Eddie who was starting to think he’d taken it a step too far, stared up at Steve in amazement. He got his wits back fast enough to quip, “Only if they’re pretty enough.”
Steve ducked his head and scratched the back of his neck trying to hide his embarrassment. Well maybe that was the wrong word. Charmed. He was fucking charmed.
“You think I’m pretty?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper.
Eddie raised Steve’s chin with his finger. “The prettiest boy I’ve ever seen, Stevie.”
Steve gulped. “And if I told you that I’ve had the biggest crush on you for so long?”
“Then I would ask why we aren’t dating, sweetheart,” Eddie murmured, leaning in close.
Steve let out a shuddering sigh. “Because I didn’t think I was an option for you.”
Eddie half knelt on the sofa, cupping his face in his hands. “You are my number one option, honey. Just say the word and I’m yours.”
“Mine.”
Eddie grinned and then kissed Steve gently on the lips. He pulled back after a moment. “This isn’t just because you’re lonely on Valentine’s Day, right?”
Steve pulled Eddie onto his lap and brushed their noses together. “No, baby. She was only ever a placeholder for you. And a piss poor one at that. She never loved me for me. Not like you.”
Eddie chuckled. “And what makes you think I love you, pretty boy?”
“Because you knew I would be sad and brought me sunflowers.”
Eddie kissed Steve fiercely. “You are too clever for your own good, honey. Yes, that is exactly why I brought them. Because I didn’t want you to be sad. Because I wanted you to feel loved.”
“And I do,” Steve murmured. “I love you, too. So so much.”
“Good.”
They resumed kissing. It was darker. Deeper. More potent. Eddie could write songs and poems and books filled with the love he felt for this man and finding out that he felt the same.
All the bookstores and libraries in all the world couldn’t begin to fill the amount of pages Eddie would need to even try and convey how he felt in that moment.
But it could be summed up in one word.
Ecstasy.
Just pure ecstasy.
*
Robin wasn’t sure if it could be called a walk of shame when she had told Steve that she would be spending the night at Vickie’s, but walking into their shared apartment after the wild sex they had had last night she did feel a little silly.
She stopped short when she saw who was in her kitchen making breakfast in Steve’s track pants.
“Eddie?” she squeaked.
Eddie looked up at her with a grin. “Welcome home, Bucksters! If you haven’t eaten yet, pull up a chair and grab a stack of pancakes. I’ve made plenty.”
“You’re not Jeana,” Robin said stupidly.
“Nope.”
“Steve would never cheat,” she said, again trying to figure this out.
“Nope.”
“You two are a couple now?” Robin asked, her brain still in first gear.
“Yup!”
Just then a very sleep rumpled Steve came wandering out of his bedroom and latched on to Eddie. “I missed you.” He kissed Eddie’s neck.
Eddie kissed his temple. “Sorry, sweetness. I got hungry.”
“Mhmm..” he muttered. “Does smell good.
“Morning, dingus.” Robin crossed her arms in front of her chest. “You want to tell what this is about?”
Steve looked over at her and gave her a dopey smile. “Jeana sucked. Only wanted the Harrington money and not me. Called Eddie over to make me less sad. He brought me sunflowers and made me very happy.”
Robin looked over at Eddie who half shrugged around a clingy Steve. “That’s the gist of it.”
“Got it,” she said. “I’m happy for you both.”
She grabbed a plate and pilled on the pancakes, with Steve releasing Eddie to do the same.
As the three of them sat down and ate Eddie’s pancakes, Steve smiled happily to himself.
He was with the two people he loved most in all the world and he wouldn’t change a thing.

Ok, it’s a bit early for this type of request but hobie brown on Valentine’s Day with reader. Even though he hates the capitalist part of it, reader convinces him it’s all about the love and they celebrate together. (They make each other homemade gifts, and if they want something from the store hobie would steal it) <3
-🪩
Thank you for the adorable request!! Ly 🫶 (uploaded early bc i tend to forget abt valentine's day lol)
Pairing: Hobie Brown x gn! Reader/ Spider-Punk x gn! Reader
Tags: No use of Y/N, No specific physical description of the reader, CW food mentions, FLUFF.
ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ
The loud music blares right inside your eardrums, chocolate aroma filtering through the entire flat, there's dried bits of it in your hair, apron and hands. You hum while putting the melted chocolate in its heart shaped molds.
Hobie's initials are freshly painted using icing on the prototypes or what you called ‘the rejected batch’ after you dumped more cocoa powder in it, making it lumpy and in turn making the hearts look wonky.
Stretching your aching neck, you place the tray of chocolate inside the freezer to cool, nodding to yourself at how you've practically perfected the last batch; now you just have to wait for it to freeze over so you could paint his initials and cartoon versions of you two on the chocolate. After that you can finally box them up and gift them to Hobie's as a valentine's gift—
“What's all this then?” A chin plops atop your shoulder, fingers taking off your earbuds for you.
You jump in your skin, back hitting the fridge door in surprise. “Fucking fuck!”
Hobie grins at your reaction, his hand hidden behind his back. “Cute apron. You look bloody fit in it.”
You clutch your imaginary pearls. “You're such an ass.” calming your racing heart, you flick his forehead. “You're early.”
“Time is a construct.”
“I'm not done with your gift.”
“Valentine's day is a sham holiday that capitalists invented so you could buy shit your partner doesn't need.” He raises a brow at you.
You loop your arms around his neck, smile widening at every word he utters. “What's that behind you then?”
“Flowers,” he sighs, revealing a bouquet of flowers from behind, the colorful paper crinkles, a thin red ribbon tying it all together. You're sure you've seen the flowers somewhere. “Before you say anythin’ it's from my garden.”
“You're an absolute sweetheart, Hobie brown.” eyes sparkling, you lean to press numerous kisses on his whole face, he scrunches up, feigning offense at your comment, but the way he subtly chases your lips says otherwise.
“My big punk sweetheart got me flowers!” You can't help but squeeze his cheeks. “From his beloved garden no less!” Pressing kisses in quick succession, he surrenders to you, sighing with every smooch you give him.
You lean away, affection satiated. He looks properly smooched with his face relaxed and lips smiling lopsidedly. His eyes are the same shape as the chocolates you've been making.
“The holiday's still a bloody cash grab.” He huffs, not an annoyed huff but a content one as you wipe the sheen you've left on his skin.
“I know it is.” You chuckle, busying yourself on cleaning his face. Your movements remind him of a cat grooming another cat; tender and soothing for the one they love. “It's about the thought, the love that comes with the gifts. Purchased or made there's love underneath it all.” Voice soft, lashes fluttering, you look at him like you've got the whole world in your hands.
“Or stolen from a multi million store that doesn't pay their employees fairly?” Hobie holds you by your middle, spare hand still clutched around the precious bouquet.
“Oh especially then!” you take his gift, smelling the petals. Your heart is full.
Smiling, you embrace him that he welcomes wholeheartedly. Nose nuzzling the crook of his neck, you leave a soft kiss on his jaw for good measure.
“Based on the chocolates on the walls, 'm guessing you got me a new guitar?” Hobie jokes, voice muffled by your temple that he's currently pecking like a man deprived of kisses. (He isn't)
“Wait a few more hours to get your gift?” You lean away to look at him, he's eyeing the prototypes on the counter.
“Stay with you for the rest of the day, getting snogged by you every second?” You nod, giggling. “Sounds like pants.” Before you could say something witty, he crashes his lips to yours.
Hobie tastes chocolates in your lips, making him kiss you deeper. Hands gliding along your lower back, he finds penchant on your hips, molding the soft skin in his hands.
He leans back, watching your flustered face gawp at him. “Tastes good, love.” His voice is deep and saccharine. You're absolutely melting in his arms, the bouquet almost slipping from your clammy hands.
“Let me get another taste.”

NEVER GOT A CHANCE
"Katsu, hey! I've been meaning to visit, but a lot is happening these days and..well- never mind! That's not important right now, what I mean to say is, I've missed you" Y/n, spoke softly and with somewhat of an unsure tone
There was no reply, only a thick veil of silence draped over them!
It made Y/n second-guess their words and even their presence, all the more.
'Maybe I should have stayed at home today after all' They pondered, a heavy sigh escaping their lungs
"I'm probably gonna have to get used to this huh?" They smiled faintly, not really expecting an answer, their question was rather rhetorical
Y/n took a deep breath, trying to ease the anxious feeling bubbling inside of their chest!
"Oi Katsuki...Listen, I know all this Valentine's shit is not really your thing, but I've brought you something" Y/n presented a box, along with a bouquet of flowers
Even though they couldn't see his face, they were sure that his interest would be piqued by the gifts and the unusual gesture
"It's your favourite" They placed the box on the cold, marble surface, a piece of sickeningly sweet-smelling cake sitting inside it
The bouquet of brightly coloured flowers, resting, not too far from the pastry box!
The stems were bent or broken from a hold that was much too tight for something so delicate
"I...I don't really know what else to say, to be honest!" Their gaze drops towards the ground
"Maybe that's why it took me so long to face you after-" Y/n took a sharp breath, trying to prevent their emotions from tightening the grip on their throat "After that day"
"You know? I've had a lot of time to think since! Perhaps too much time..." Y/n clenched their hands into tight fists, in an attempt to alleviate some pressure
"It made me wonder about all the opportunities I missed! I never felt ready, always waiting for the right time, but there never was one...or at least that was my excuse"
A few droplets of water landed on Y/n's hand, making them look up at the sky, only to realize that it was their tired eyes that brought rain and not the darkened clouds above them
They fixed their gaze back on the ground
"I was so stupid, so I never got a chance to ask you...if you want to be mine! But it's too late now.." Y/n faced his grave, finally building up the courage to look at the picture of the hero
"I wish I had told you sooner..I love you! Happy Valentine's day Katsuki"
A/n: It's been a while, but here I am once again, serving angst for my favourite, my dynamite, my boy Bakugou

BEIGE | 5k | M
Harry finds it hot–he always does–the way Louis is so attentive to both their guests and the cat, but he finds himself more drawn to Niall and Zayn. He watches as the two of them whisper softly to one another, having their own conversation in the midst of the larger, group one, one of their hands coming up to run soothingly along the other’s thigh. It reminds Harry of him and Louis in their early days, so completely enthralled with one another, caught up in the novelty and freshness. There could be twenty people in a room, and he’d only have eyes for one. He glances at Louis every now and again to see if he notices as well, and Louis watches some, but he mostly watches Harry.
in which louis hates valentine’s day but he loves harry, they host annual friend’s day game night, and niall brings someone new.

Valentines day with Ari before they started "dating" each other
Alone Together, a Bedrock and Blueprints tale
Final of the Valentine's Fics of 2023. Thank you for the ask, Princess! Wishing everyone a loving day of friends, family, and healing. 💙 No warnings except for mild language (it me) and some bad behavior from a jerk that Ari steps in for! Oh, big shock, it's 1.8k...like they all are 😒 (so lightly edited, you'd never know)
Tumblr media
He’ll forever be known as Dickhead Darren. He talked a good game. You commiserated over shitty exes. He wanted all the same things long-term. He was open and affectionate, always holding your hand or walking with an arm over your shoulder. After only a dozen or so dates, you were on cloud nine with high, high hopes.
Then came Valentine’s Day.
What is it about this damn day that just upends whole lives every flipping year?
Your best friend, Ari, genuinely doesn’t leave his apartment all day for this very reason, and you chided him this time, full force, saying he was paranoid to strategically be single on February 14th every year.
Ari…might be right.
Darren, however, turns out to be big on the V-Day planning. He’s made reservations at the priciest place in the city, something you insisted was unnecessary but were told ‘you’re worth it.’ So you stopped arguing, tried to take the compliment, and started to get pretty excited about the big day.
You hurry home to dress up after work and make it to the restaurant on time. Darren lives in a swanky apartment downtown. It’s easier for him to meet you there. His last text said he was excited to see you and he was heading home from work.
You have to pull hard on the heavy glass door before the hostess politely seats four other couples in front of you. You give Darren’s name, and she smiles. They can seat you immediately. Since there are already people filing in behind you, you let her weave you through a sea of two-tops, texting Darren the approximate location so he can find you when he arrives.
No response comes. If he’s driving there, he probably can’t text back.
You wait.
By the second check-in by the waiter, you order a drink and then you sip and sip and sip. You shoot another text to Darren asking if he thinks he’ll be a bit late after all. Maybe he’s afraid to admit that. Maybe he picked up flowers last minute, or simply hit traffic.
Ari would hate this place. The decor is so fancy it pushes gaudy and sparkles with metals and facets a little too much, but you can’t deny it is a sight to experience. As discreetly as you can, you send your friend photos of the beautiful but highly overdone decorations and the needlessly romantic petals on the tabletop.
Ari’s question is why the seat at the edge of the picture is empty. You say it’s not even the exact time of your reservation yet, so it’s fine. Darren is on his way, you’re pretty sure. Ari drops it and asks about the food.
There’s a set, sharing menu for the evening, and your stomach starts to growl while you pine for an appetizer.
Still, nothing from Darren but you’ve only been seated for fifteen minutes. Darren has never been late without messaging you though.
Since Ari is the only one responding, you keep texting him. You express a little concern that no text has arrived from your date. Darren probably looked at the prices, Ari jokes. The man got scared of what that kinda cost commitment would mean, and you fire back that not all guys are as afraid of love as Levinson is.
After a few more quips concerning Ari’s lack of romantic stability, he’s gathered that Darren has, in fact, still not arrived or called. It is three minutes past the reservation time.
:Want me to come pick you up?
Ari is melodramatic sometimes.
:No. It’s only just time now.
:Okay, how long you gonna give him?
:He’s coming, you grump! He probably just primped enough for Versailles.
:One more drink then?
To prove your point you do order another and Darren’s preferred style of beer from the list. It’s thoughtful, and you have every faith he’s coming. Your nerves are just making you overreact.
Those aren’t nerves; they are instincts. They scream at you for the whole other half hour you wait.
You can sense Ari wanting to gloat so you stop answering while you watch a beer go flat across the table and see red petals brown at the edges in real-time.
Finally, a text from Darren pops up.
His ex was waiting at his place when he got home.
He’s sorry.
He’s fucking sorry.
You’re trying not to have a very public meltdown, and he’s sorry?
All you text Ari is a bunch of exclamations, and he calls immediately.
You answer but don’t speak, afraid your voice will shake and break.
“Kid, what’s wrong?” Ari waits through very rough background noise. “Please tell me he showed up and I don’t have to do this.”
You cover your nose and mouth to sniffle as inconspicuously as possible. “Do what?”
“Is he there?”
“No.” The word is watery and pathetic.
“You wanna go home?”
Tears are starting to escape despite your best efforts. “I’ve had two drinks on an empty stomach. I don’t think I’m in any shape to get on a bus.”
“Ok,” he says before hanging up the phone, and it’s a good thirty seconds of you hyperventilating in an attempt to dial Ari back before you see steel-toed boots align with your heels over the side of the chair.
Your hazy gaze rakes up a very tall man in dark jeans and a dress shirt—well, as dressy of a shirt as Ari Levinson owns.
“Hey,” he mutters with a smile.
The tension in your chest boils over, face cracking into an ugly sob because he’s here. The perpetual anti-Valentine hauled ass across town for you…and you’ve had no food with alcohol.
“Okay, alright,” Ari hushes, kneeling down so you can bury your face in his (thankfully dark) shirt. The hug masks that you are not happy from other patrons, and his position seems to give a few onlookers the wrong idea.
A few people start clapping. Others join in and start ‘aww’ing you. They think Ari’s just proposed to you, and he stiffens in your arms.
“For the record, this is why I don’t do this shit,” he says in your ear, making to pull away until you grip tighter.
“Just one more second,” you blubber. You’re not quite ready to be seen, and there are still people watching.
He rubs your back for as long as it takes. By the time you release him and Ari can slide into the seat he pulls to be beside you, not across from you, the waiter returns with a tight but genuine smile.
“Let me refresh this drink for you, sir. One moment.”
Ari’s brows go up when he realizes the man means to get him a completely new glass of beer. That’s way better service than either of you is used to.
When the waiter sets down the replacement, he asks if you are ready to order, and Ari tilts his head in your direction.
“Lady’s choice. She’s been staring at the menu long enough.” He sweeps a large thumb over your wet cheek once then takes a swig of beer while you pick apps and entreés.
“Damn,” he mutters once the waiter’s gone. “That’s really fucking good.” Ari takes another refreshing gulp. “Don’t ever tell Dickhead I said that.”
“I don’t think I’ll be saying much of anything to Darren…” Your joke doesn’t ring so true when your voice wavers like that, but Ari nods in understanding.
He runs his hand through his long hair and leans back in the chair before someone bumps right into him.
“Sorry,” the shocked patron says.
Ari smirks, looking around. “I guess I messed up the seating arrangement by being the only one to want to sit close to their date, huh?”
He drags the chair back to the opposite side from you but reaches out his hand.
“You okay, kid?”
His palm is warm, his fingers strong and comforting when they give yours a squeeze.
Wiping your other cheek, you nod and mumble that you just need to freshen up in the bathroom.
He still smirks. “Don’t take too long, they’ll find out I don’t belong and body-snatch me.”
Ari doesn’t just make dinner tolerable; he turns it into a laugh-riot you have to smother cackling over the entire time. He plays this game, a game where he finds a couple and makes up elaborate stories of their relationships and what they’re saying. Of course, it’s all horrible, but it’s what you need to hear right now. You need the failed holiday cheer.
After he loses your fork battle for the last tiny bite of an overly tiny dessert, Ari set his open palm on the table again.
“Baby,” he rumbles in a desperately sexy voice, eyes turned up at you through his lashes.
He waits for you to take his hand, biting his lower lip, clearly trying not to laugh, but the picture is still your hairy, weird, wonderful best friend.
“Will you…split the check with me?”
You can’t help it. You snort-laugh right in his face, slapping your free hand down on the tablecloth before racing to cover your mouth.
You nod furiously.
He’s just so honest and so stupid and so, so perfect. He salvaged everything about this night—hell, about this whole relationship—and the least you can do is lift some burden from him, too.
“Let me buy you dinner, old man. My treat.”
Ari stands up slightly from his chair, lifting your hand to his lips and kissing your knuckles. His beard tickles. You squirm in your seat at the sensation.
“My hero,” he preens, and you jerk your hand away.
“Oh, stop,” you flash back, “you’re buying the pizza on our way home though. I know you’re still hungry, Ari.”
It’s his turn to cover his laugh. You know him too well.
He starts to roll his shirt sleeves back down in preparation for walking out into the chillier night. He’s overly adoring while you handle the bill, playing the damsel to your Green Knight, but it only makes you laugh harder. At least he saves the joke about having to 'put out' for after the door closes and the hostess can’t overhear.
Ari tosses his arm over your shoulder and rubs some warmth into your under-layered skin. “I think we might have ruined me for cheap beer now though.”
Your head snaps up to see sparkling blue eyes, shoving him in the ribs lightly. “That’s a you problem! I’m not your sugar mama.”
He gives a cheeky scratch to his beard before petting it smooth. “Aww, honey, just let an old man have his delusions, huh?”
You two jostle and joke all the way to his truck and then continue, as you always have, all the way to a late-night snack.

hear me out:
he would be terribly stressed out. i know he is a charismatic, charming actor in front of whom nothing is impossible, but when it comes to confessing his feelings he would suddenly turn into a little boy who is stressed about talking about emotions;
he would plan everything. literally everything. in his head there would be a million scenarios that could happen and just as many solutions for those that didn't go his way. he would like you to be happy with everything he has planned for the two of you;
he had wanted to confess his feelings to you for a long time already, but both of you were quite busy, and you don't tell someone that you have feelings for him on the run. for this reason, he got to know your schedule in detail and chose a day during which you could give him your full attention;
that day was valentine's day. you knew each other well enough to know that you would not spend it with anyone;
the morning of the previous day, he sent you a message asking if you could meet on lovers' day, excusing that it had been a long time since you had seen each other and that it was probably the last day before he flew to Canada for a shooting set where you could meet. that wasn't necessarily true, but you've had so much on your mind lately that you didn't even realize that Ben doesn't fly to Canada until three weeks from now;
as Ben wanted you to be surprised, he didn't let it be known that something was stressing him out. you may have been close to each other, but he was still an amazing actor and was able to use this in private relationships as well;
you met in one of your favorite cafes, and if life were a movie, the moment you walked in and found Ben with your eyes, you would have heard shawn mendes' nervous in the background;
you actually haven't seen for a long time so you spent long minutes talking about everything and nothing over coffee. when you finally decided to change your location, it was already getting dark;
after going outside, Ben completely took the initiative. although he suggested a walk, you could feel that the directions taken were not at all random. he was leading you somewhere;
he led you to his apartment, but you weren't even able to suspect anything because of the fact that a few times he took you in completely the opposite direction;
once you walked inside, you saw an interior decorated with small lights that resembled those of a Christmas tree. it turned out that someone in your absence, on Ben's instructions, had prepared dinner, which now stood ready on the table in the part of the apartment dedicated to the dining room;
when you entered the room you felt like the main character of romantic movie. you automatically began to stress, but you weren't the only one - you had the feeling that a subtle nervousness also came out on Ben's face;
“i've been wanting to tell you this for a long time” he began while getting closer to you. he gently took in his hands those belonging to you and looked into your eyes. when he didn't notice any reaction of objection from you, he continued, “i think i have fallen for you, y/n”;
when you didn't answer Ben began to stress even more. he was already opening his mouth to add something, but you anticipated him. “i think i fell for you too, Ben Barnes” you replied quietly, insecurely;
the truth was that you had begun to feel something for Ben for some time already, but because of your shyness and fear of ruining your relationship, you didn't want to take that first step;
after confessing your feelings, you both felt relieved. the evening was spent in a pleasant atmosphere with wine and glances that expressed more than a thousand words;
you were happy and nothing else mattered to you but the two of you.

Will you be my Valentine?
//
Old RRR drabble. A companion piece to 'Blessings Beneath the Stars'.
Not a love story, but a story about love.
Posting my old works after they were lost.
Hopefully still worth a read.
//
"Will you be my Valentine?" The younger man mapped out the words carefully, pausing after each syllable, as if tasting them on his tongue, leaving Ram suffocating with each uttered word. His breath was hitching, his throat closing, heart galloping a mile a minute as his mind worked out a million different scenarios where this was true. Alas! When did Ram ever get what he desired anyway? His eyes threatened to well up, the older man concentrating too much as if that would help keep his tear ducts in check.
"Aise hi kehte hain na Anna? Koi galti toh nahi kar raha hoon na main?" (These are the words, right? Am I pronouncing them correctly?)
The next voice, a clearer, deeper baritone brought Ram out of his pipe dream. Anna. Bhai. Bhaiya. It was extremely clear to the gond man where he stood on his relationship with Ram. He shook his head internally, his lips forming the most fake and widest smile they could which absolutely did not reach his eyes.
"Han Bheem. Bilkul theek kaha tumne. Bas zara himmat se poochna ab. Bina koi hichkichahat." (Yes Bheem. Absolutely correct. Now just say it with confidence.) His hands involuntarily reached to fix the bow tie for a millionth time even if it was perfect from the start. His thumb brushed the bow, fingers itching to touch the skin beyond the fabric just once, a pent up desperation that resurfaced once more, the close proximity and the fresh scent of the curly haired man not making it any easier.
Ram brushed his knuckles on the jaw as if to check one last time if the beard was trimmed properly and was still fluffy. Bheem giggling like a little girl at the cold touch of the slightly trembling hands. The younger man looked away, eyes cast down as he took Ram's hand from his face into his own. "Anna! Bas bhi karo! Kitna theek karoge? Main koi film ka nayak thode hi hoon?" (Anna! Let it be! How many times will you adjust it? I am not some hero of a movie.)
Tum kisi bhi hero se kai zyada khubsurat ho meri jaan! (You are far more handsome than any hero, my love!)
He wanted to say, to confess, to blurt out the words dancing on his treacherous tongue. The older man clenched tight to prevent them from escaping. He took a deep breath, chastising himself internally, yelling at his splintering heart to keep it together. Only a few minutes now and then he'd go into the forest and let it out. Only a few minutes. He could do that! He'd endured years of torture, what was a couple of measly moments?
"Shush!" He said out loud. "Sab perfect hona chahiye aaj ke liye." (Everything should be perfect for today.)
"Per-fect?" Bheem mumbled the words under his breath and was reminded how Jenny had taught him. "Aah!" He exclaimed, thrumming with exciting and nervous energy, "Jab mere perfect anna ne mujhe taiyaar kiya hai toh kaise nahi hoga sab perfect?" (When my perfect anna has groomed me then how will it not be perfect?) He beamed. And how Ram wanted to grab him at that moment and kiss him, shake him,  to stop him. To let him know that Ram loved him more than anyone ever could… truly, deeply, madly, irrevocably. Ironically it was the precise reason Ram had to let him go. Not that it hurt less. But when did it ever? Ram and pain were entwined together more than any soulmates could be.
Nonetheless, Ram could not help the blush that crept its way up his cheeks, painting them crimson. He smiled. A partly genuine smile of course because how could he not when Bheem was a sight to behold- dressed in pale blue shirt with embossed check design on the softest cotton, with a dark grey trouser, a cute little matching bowtie and those suspenders. It was an outfit that he had gotten for the younger man when Bheem had gushed to Ram about asking Jenny on this valentine’s day. It was sort of their anniversary and Ram gave him the idea to wear western clothes for her. Not because he’d get to dress Bheem again and the fact that he looked absolutely ravishing in the form fitting attire.
“Kuchh bhi mat bolo Bheem! Tumhe Jenny ke saath flirt karna hai- uske liye bacha kar rakho yeh sab…” (You really don’t have a filter, do you? Save all this flirting for Jenny.) He faux reprimanded. The heaviness in his heart relieved a little at the joy emanating from Bheem. It was contagious, the happiness that the honey-eyed man spread around without even realising it, the older man feeling lighter, a little bit jubilant at his friend’s elation. Bheem pressed his hand once, which was still enclasped in the calloused, huge palms of the younger man, as Bheem retained all the sincerity in those wonderfully deep doe eyes as he began. “Ram,” he began, the older man’s heart skipping a beat and starting to once again. He was sure to die from arrhythmia because of Bheem one day.
“Shukriya. Maine kaha nahi aapse.” (Thank you. I didn’t say it before.)
“Bheem iski-” (Bheem it’s-) a palm on his lips stopped his words and his breath alike.
“Mujhe keh lene dijiye. Main samajhta hun aaj ka din mohabbat ko manaane ka din hai, haina?” Ram nodded, as the younger man took away his hand making Ram miss the warmth. “Chahe wo aashiqui ho, dosti ho, ya kuchh bhi. Pyaar ke kai roop hote hain aur mujhe lagta hai un sab ka apna tavajjuh hai. Koi bhi ishq kisi dusre se kam nahi. Toh aaj main aapse bhi yeh kehna chahta hun, main aap se bahot pyaar karta hun- hamesha hi karta rahunga. Aapki dosti mujhe jaan se bhi zyada aziz hai, Ram.”
(Let me say it. As I understand, today is the day to celebrate love, is it not? Be it amour, friendship, anything else. Love has many forms and I think they all are equally important. No love is lesser than the other. So, today, I want to convey this to you too. I love you- I will always love you. Your friendship is dear to me more than my life, Ram.)
Suddenly Ram was engulfed in one of the trademark Bheem bear-hugs. Those hugs had the power to cure every ailment. And Ram was held so tight, his heart which was torn and tattered and wounded, began to heal. How could he ever be a thorn in the way of happiness of such a pure being? How could he ever demand Bheem be only his? To Ram, this was the moment he realised he would bury his feelings deep, because there was no point. He could be fine, admiring Bheem from afar, being his close friend, his confidante, his support and his wingman till he was needed. The younger man’s contentment was paramount.
He clutched the gond man tight, relishing every morsel of affection bestowed on him, cherishing the little moments, fully aware that life would only grant him so much. And that it had to be enough. Amongst all the life’s curveballs that had come his way, meeting Bheem was the most unexpected and the most amazing of them all. After all said and done, the curveballs within the curveballs of their journey- it was a loop really, Ram had been extremely grateful that Bheem had chosen to be his friend. If not more.
"Bheem main-", (Bheem I-) they separated, the older man reluctant to let him go, still holding him by the waist.
"Anna!" An interruption. "Jenny akka aapko kab se dhundh rahi hain aur aap abhi tak yahin ho?" (Jenny akka is looking for you and you are still here?) A breathless Lacchu stopped just a few feet short of the embracing duo. Ram loathed his timing, cursing under his breath, his hands slipping away to his sides, his head hung low. Leave it to Lacchu to ruin his special moments. He wanted to glare at the newcomer, but finally after what felt like an eternity he was beginning to tolerate his presence, his friendship with Bheem. Ram absolutely didn't want to jeopardize that.
"Offo! Der ho gayi!" (Oops. I’m late!) Bheem turned in a blink ready to leave, Ram plastered a wide grin on his face to wish him all the luck, not that he needed it. Before he could, the gond man turned once again, facing Ram, looking at him with utmost excitement, “Ek baar aur dekh lo. Sab sahi hai na?” (For the last time, is everything alright?)
Ram laughed, a pearly laugh that sounded strange even to his ears, Lacchu smirking knowingly in the background. He ran his fingers through those soft styled curls once more, making them more unruly and fluffier if it even was possible, a halo around the honey-eyed man- how could he not? It was the perfect opportunity. “Bahot sundar lag rahe ho Bheem.” (You are very handsome Bheem.) He could not keep it in, eyes growing moist again, lips turning infinitesimally down as his hand slipped away. What Bheem did next was so unexpected that Ram nearly had a heart attack. “Shurkiya!” (Thank you!) He yelled with unbridled enthusiasm and pecked Ram on the cheek as he ran off to meet waiting Jenny across the dusty path paved in the greens.
Ram smiled softly, his eyes twinkling as he brought his hand to his cheek, which was tinged with red at Bheem’s gesture, the fingers then pressing demurely, a feather soft touch on his lips-
"Ishq bhi badi kutti cheez hai, hai na?" (You're so far gone, huh?) Ram was startled by the familiar voice. Shit! He'd totally forgotten about Lacchu who was still standing there. Ram turned away, kicking the ground. The dust swirled around and settled in a moment, a patch of semi dried grass uprooted. Now that Bheem was gone, the melancholy returned. All the thoughts that his positivity was keeping at bay came rushing in like the waters when the doors of the dam are opened.
“Han, han! Tum bhi Jale hue pe namak chhidak ne ke maze le lo!" (Kick a man when he’s down, why don’t you?) he quipped and instantly regretted it. He opened his mouth to apologise the next moment only to be countered by the younger man.
“Kuchh logon ki tarah meri woh aadat nahi hai. Tum jaante hi ho." (Unlike some people, I don’t do that.) A simple statement that cut him deep. A self-deprecating chortle rang empty in the woods, Ram trying to laugh his pain away. His eyes met Lacchu's and to his surprise, Ram found the younger man serious, not at all mocking contrary to his usual patented Cheshire cat grin when he's making fun of Ram or belittling him.
"Mujhe maaf karna. Kisi aur jagah ka rosh kahin aur nikal gaya." (I am sorry. It’s just that I am not processing it right. I am frustrated with something else entirely.)
"Aaj ke liye kshama hai tumhe." (I forgive you. Only for today.) It was yet another surprise that Ram was not ready for. It must have been apparent on his taken aback expression because Lacchu chuckled. “Kya? Insaaniyat ke naate keh raha hun, yeh na samjhna ke tumhe puri tarah se maaf kar diya hai.” (What? Don’t think I don’t hate you or have forgiven you for anything else, this is purely on humanitarian basis.)
“Lekin tumhe kaise?” (But how did you know?) Ram was perplexed. He had tried immensely hard not to reveal his true emotions. But he really should not be surprised. Lacchu was a keen observer after all.
“Main bhi isi naav mein sawaar hun, Ram.” (I am sort of in the same boat, Ram.) The gond man solemnly stated. “Aur main andha nahi hun.” (Plus, I have eyes.)
“KYA? Tum- Bheem-” (WHAT? You- Bheem-)
Lacchu laughed hard, almost doubling over, tears in his eyes. “NAHI!” (NO!) He howled, “Ewww! Tum aisa soch bhi kaise sakte ho? Duniya mein aur insaan nahi hain kya?” (How can you even go there? There are other people in the world, you know!)
Ram was sheepish. Well, it was only Bheem who was constantly riding his thoughts. He was consumed by the man and Bheem- he stopped the thought right there. “Toh phir kaun?” (Then who?)
“Tha koi. Lekin main toote hue dil ka dard jaanta hun, khaas kar tab jab woh tumhare samne hi rahe.” (There was someone. But I do know the pain of a broken heart. Especially when they are always in front of you, in your life.)
“Hmm… ajeeb baat hai na? Itne sare log jo mujhe chahte hain, izzat bhi karte hain, apna maante hain. Aur ek tum hi ho, jo nafrat karta hai mujhse, jiske saath iss tarah se ek raabta ban raha hai. Tum hi ho jo meri vidambna samajh sakte ho.”
(Hmm… it’s ironic, isn’t it? All the people who love me, revere me, think of me as their own. And only you, who loathes me, can understand my plight. Only you can get what I am going through.)
“Oh toh hum wahan jaa rahe hain?” (Oh, we’re going there, are we?) Lacchu mumbled. Then as if something struck him, he rubbed his hands together, striding in the direction of the deeper jungle. “Chalo mere saath.” (Come with me.)
“Kahan?” (Where?)
Lacchu turned around, running towards the huts, his own which was not far away from Bheem’s, shouting, “Ruko main aata hun.” (Wait. I’ll be right back.) He returned in a few quick moments with a leather-cover in his hand. “Main yeh bina madad nahi kar sakta.” (If I’m going to do this, I need external help.) And initiated his trek again into the foliage. Ram wordlessly followed.
They walked for a while in the dense lush greenery until their path was blocked by a humongous teak tree. Lacchu started to climb the rope ladder and Ram followed, both settling on the machaan (tree house) on the study branches. The atmosphere was serene, sunlight playing the most alluring game of light and shadows with its evening colours of orange, red and pink with the vivid emeralds in the leaves. Ram was mesmerised.
“Itna waqt bitaya hai maine yahan phir bhi har jagah nayi lagti hai. Utni hi khubsurat, utni hi mohak.” (So many months spent in this place but everything still seems new. Still beautiful, still mesmerising.)
Lacchu meanwhile was rolling up a joint, the smell of weed wafting in the air as he opened the packet. He was sitting beside Ram, his legs dangling down the wooden floor, one hand flat on the back supporting his back. He lit it, taking a puff, replied. “Mujhe toh saalon ke baad bhi yehi lagta hai. Aasan hai, kudrat se mohabbat karna.” (I feel that even after years now. It is easy. To love nature.) He continued, taking another one, offering it to Ram who politely declined. He shrugged. “Bas insaan mujhe pechida lagte hain. Prakriti bilkul sateek hai. Tum use chaaho, woh tumhe zaroor chaahegi.” (It is only humans that I find cumbersome, complicated. Nature is simple in a way. Love it and it will reciprocate.)
Ram smiled. “Kya tum isiliye laaye ho mujhe yahan? Mera dil behlane ke liye?” (Is that why you have brought me to this place? To deflect my mind?) Lacchu nodded. “Kyun?” (Why?)
“Yaar tum sawal bahot karte ho.” (Man! Do you ask a lot of questions.) Lacchu offered the lit doobie to the older man. “Lo. Piyo ise. Kai cheezein saaf dikhai dengi.” (Come on. One puff. Things will be clearer.) Ram thought, what the fuck, taking a drag and coughing up immediately, his eyes watering, his lungs burning up with the smoke. “Aram se.” (Slowly.) Lacchu patted his back, taking the joint back from him. Ram settled down eventually, his eyes red rimmed, as he brushed off the tears.
“Paani hai yahan?” (Water?) he rasped. Lacchu pointed him to a corner where there was one earthen pot with a clay mug. Ram gulped down the cool liquid, coming back, sitting cross-legged away from the edge.
“Ek baat kahun tumse?” (Can I say something?) The younger man began, not really waiting for Ram to respond. “Tumhe Bheem ko bata dena chahiye. Jo tumhare mann mein hai.” (Tell Bheem. Tell him what you feel about him. Everything.)
“Kya? Ke main usse pyaar karta hun? Uske saath rehna chahta hun? Tum pagal toh nahi ho gaye ho? Kitna maal phoonk liya jab tak main paani pi raha tha?” (What? That I am in love with him? That I want to be with him? Have you gone completely mad? How much did you smoke while I went for a glass of water?) He jested.
“Han. Woh sab jo tum uske liye mehsoos karte ho. Pura pura izhaar kar do. Main tajurbe se keh raha hun. Andar hi andar ghut kar marne se achha hai ke ek baar mein hi manjhra tamaam ho jaaye.” (Yes. Everything. All your emotions, your desires. I am advising by self experience. It is better to rip off the bandaid once than to die a little every single day.)
“Aur kya? Bheem ko kho dun? Hamesha ke liye?” (And then what? Lose Bheem? Forever?)
“Woh tumse pyaar karta hai Ram. Shayad us tarah nahi jis tarah tum karte ho lekin utni hi shiddat se jitna tum usse. Kabhi na kabhi toh use pata chalna hi hai. Behtar hai tum khud hi bata do. Tumhara raabta, tumhari dosti har woh musibat, har woh mushkil se ho kar guzri hai ke itne se iqraar se nahi tutegi.”
(He loves you, Ram. Maybe not in the way you do but no less intense. With the same fervour. And he will come to realise sooner than later. It is better if it comes from you. Your relationship, your bond, it has passed every damned test there could be and is still going strong. I don’t think it will break with this confession.)
The words pierced profoundly within Ram’s soul. The fact that Lacchu was saying them gave them a sound meaning because he knew this was a man who did not mince his words, his emotions. He was the one to say it straight, without any hesitance, with complete honesty which frankly was terrifying at times. This was one such instance. The rationale was settling in the older man’s mind, the cogs reeling in the direction, the only dilemma was- why was Lacchu being kind to him? Obviously, he was a wonderful, compassionate human but it was never directed at Ram before now. It was only for a couple of weeks that the younger man had been less testy, almost neutral in Ram’s vicinity. The last conversation they had was when Lacchu had given Ram the ultimatum that he would forgive Ram when he would and Ram had wordlessly and readily accepted that.
“Kya tum ab bhi yeh sab insaaniyat ke naate kar rahe ho?” (And you are still doing this for humanitarian purposes?) he had to know.
“Bilkul. Humara aapsi masla jo bhi ho, main tumhe ya kisi ko bhi itni maayus halat mein nahi dekh sakta. Kya karun? Accha aadmi jo hun!” (Of course. We may have our problems, but I cannot see someone this desolate and heart broken all the damn time. Can’t help it. I’m a good person after all.) He chuckled, making Ram’s lips turn upwards. The older man felt a hand on his shoulders then, he turned to see Lacchu grabbing his shoulder in solidarity.
Another memory floated beneath his eyelids, another time, when Lacchu had placed his hand on his shoulder in a similar manner, only then, it was a desperate plea for help and now, it was one of assurance. How the roles had reversed! However this time, Lacchu was not betraying Ram as he had done to the younger man. Ram could see it in his eyes, the earnest expression, the heartfelt offer. Even if the younger man would vehemently deny it, there was a flicker of forgiveness that Ram caught in the dark orbs that made him look away. He really did not deserve such altruism from anyone, let alone this man. It only made him respect Lacchu more, the will power, the virtue, the morals he had.
“Shukriya Lacchu. Main iss kabil toh nahi ke tumhe kuchh bhi-” (Thank you, Lacchu. I am not even worthy of your-)
“Shushhh… maahol mat kharab karo ab.” (Hush now. Don’t ruin my buzz.) Ram conceded, asking for the joint instead, taking a puff slowly this time, getting the hang of it as he released the smoke in the air. Lacchu grinned at him, pleased with himself, his smug face loving each second of the buzz.
The two men sat there silently after that, exchanging nothing but the drags until the cigarette burned out, watching the sun go down on the horizon. Ram may not have found his love on the day of valentine, but he did find a beautiful human being he could connect with. Someone who understood him better than he himself at times, someone who treated him like a normal person and not a hero, or a leader, or a brother. Someone who gave him reality checks when needed and was not at all interested in coddling him. They were absolutely not friends, just two men who had stumbled upon the complexities of life and love and lost- finding their way back.

A Valentine’s Day to Remember Steve’s POV Part 1
I decided to do a Valentine fic for steddie, because I was seeing all the “Eddie has never been anyone’s Valentine” or “Eddie hates Valentine’s” fics and wanted to see one where Steve hates Valentine’s day. And it spawned a 5000+ fic with feels. But then I wanted to see the same story from Eddie’s POV and so I’m in the middle of that one.
I will post Steve’s POV in three parts until Valentine’s day. And then start posting the Eddie POV on Valentine’s day. I will have a tag list for both if you want in on that.
*
Steve Harrington loathed Valentine’s day when he had a girlfriend. All that pressure to perform. Have the right flowers, the right chocolates, the dinner reservation. No home cooked meals, no freshly picked flowers, no (insert favorite treat here). It had been drilled into his head by friends and girlfriends alike.
But he absolutely hated it as a single person and one couldn’t just ask someone for a date on Valentine’s because the person would assume it was more than a one-night deal.
“I’m just going to work and then hide in my room until the fifteenth and hope to hell not too many couples come in looking for a romantic movie to ignore after fifteen minutes while they make out,” he was telling Robin the week before the dreaded date.
Just then a voice sounded behind them, “Doth my cynic ears deceive me or doth Sir Stephen not have a date for Valentine’s day?”
Steve sighed and turned around. “Hey Eddie.”
Eddie grinned, dimpling his cheeks in that way that made the butterflies in Steve’s stomach take off.
“Seriously though, man,” Eddie said. “You really don’t have a date?”
“Dingus here hasn’t even flirted since Christmas,” Robin helpfully supplied.
He turned to look Steve up and down. “Why not?”
Steve looked over at Robin and then to the floor. “The last girl I went out with kept asking me to put a scarf around my neck even while we were inside so she wouldn’t have to see my scars.”
Eddie’s eyes went wide. “What?”
Steve looked up through his eyelashes. “I broke up with her by taking off my shirt and telling her that if the neck scar bothered her so bad, she should see the really gnarly ones.”
Robin made a disgusted face. “I found her puking in the hydrangeas.”
“And that is why I don’t date anymore,” Steve said with a flourish.
Eddie jumped up on the counter and sighed. “I hear that. Being gay in white Christian Hawkins was hard enough, but add the Satanic panic and that well has truly fucking dried up.”
Steve patted Eddie’s knee. “I’m sorry. You’re problems are so much bigger than mine. I really don’t have room to complain.”
Eddie covered Steve’s hand with his own. “Hey, don’t think like that, man. Your problems are different. Not bigger, okay?”
Steve nodded. “I guess we all can’t be as lucky as Robin.”
Eddie raised an eyebrow at her. “Does Birdie have a date? For Valentine’s?”
Robin blushed. “A girl in my economics class at the university. We’ve been dating a couple of weeks. Apparently she has something fun planned.”
Steve waved his hand at her in annoyance. “See? She’s even more lucky because she doesn’t have to plan the damn thing.”
Eddie frowned. “You’ve always had to do the planning?”
Steve sighed. “The downsides of being a raging heterosexual; being expected to do all the planning, pay for everything, and hope for at least a kiss at the end.”
“I thought you were bi,” Robin said.
“Oh I am,” Steve said, “but all that was from before I realized what I was.”
Eddie licked his lips. “So let me get this right, you’ve never had a Valentine’s day where you weren’t the one doing on all the planning. You’ve never been on a date with a man. And you don’t have a date for Valentine’s day. Do I have that right?”
Steve nodded. “Pretty much sums up the whole fucking ordeal, yeah.”
Eddie grinned. “Then you are in for a treat, pretty boy. I’m going to give you the best Valentine’s day you’ve ever had.”
Steve let out a choked gasp. “What?”
Eddie jumped down from his perch on the counter. “What time you off on the fourteenth?”
Steve looked at Robin in shock, not being able to find the words.
“He’s off at 3pm,” she said helpfully.
Eddie patted Steve on the cheek. “Perfect, pretty boy. I’d have someone else take you to work, because I will be picking you up.”
“But I’ll be all gross and want a shower before we do anything...” Steve complained.
Eddie grinned. “Don’t worry that gorgeous head of yours, darlin’. I wouldn’t let you get all upset over something like that. Just trust me.”
Steve gulped as his mind filled in with some of his dirtiest thoughts.
Eddie winked. “See you around, sweetheart.” He waved goodbye over his shoulder and sauntered back out the door.
Steve turned to Robin. “Did that just happen?” He pointed at the door in shock.
Robin grinned. “Yup!”
Steve was going to be in sooo much trouble.
*
Monday morning Eddie came bounding into the Family Video, the biggest grin on his face.
“Hey, Eddie!” Robin greeted.
“Is Steve here?” he asked, leaning on the counter.
“He’s restocking the romance section,” she said jutting her thumb behind her.
“Thanks!” he chirped and bounded off in the direction she indicated.
He rounded the corner to see Steve kneeling on the ground a large stack of tapes next him.
“Stevie!” Eddie greeted, throwing his arms open wide.
Steve turned and smiled up at him. “Hey, Eds. What brings you to Family Video on this horrible Monday morning?”
Eddie tilted his head to the side. “Aww...it’s not so bad.”
Steve stood up with a grunt. “It’s a triple strike. It’s February. It’s a Monday. And it’s cloudy with no chance of actual snow making it all the more depressing.”
Eddie grinned. “Yes...but I’m here!”
Steve laughed. “Yes, yes you are.”
“So...” Eddie said putting his hands on his lower back and hopping up and down on the balls of his feet, “whacha’s favorite flower?”
Steve’s shoulders slumped. “You don’t have to buy me flowers.”
Eddie wagged his finger at Steve. “Tsk, tsk, tsk, Stevie. Answer the question.”
Steve rolled his eyes and huffed out a sigh of annoyance. “They’re called alstroemarias. They look like little lilies and are readily available in winter.”
Eddie blinked at him. “What now?”
Steve sighed and began to walk back to the front. “Alstroemarias. I saw them at a cousin’s wedding when I was nine or ten. Really pretty flower and they come in all sorts of colors.”
He got behind the desk and wrote it down. He turned to Eddie who had dutifully followed him and handed him the paper.
Eddie took the paper. “You surprise me, Steve Harrington,” he said softly. “I thought for sure that you were going to pick something like sunflowers or orchids, some shit like that. But instead you hit me with a flower I’ve never heard of.”
Steve blushed. “I hope it’s okay.”
Eddie smiled fondly at him. “No, it’s perfect. Unique. I like that.” He stood there a moment looking at the paper in his hand. He coughed and straightened his spine. “Um...I’ll just be...yeah. I’ll see you later, Steve.”
He left and Steve stood there a moment before he banged his head on the counter with a loud moan of distress.
“What’s the matter with you? she asked.
Steve lifted his head and sighed. “He’s just doing this as a friend, Robs.”
Robin blinked at him a moment. “What’s wrong with that? I think it’s kind of cute that he’s going out of his way to give you the best Valentine’s you’ve ever had.”
Steve propped his head on his hands. “The problem is that I wish it was all real. That it was a proper date. That it wasn’t pretend.”
She put her arms around him. “Oh, Steve...”
He wrapped his hand around her wrist and held on. “I keep thinking what it would be like if we actually dating. That we were planning this together.”
“You should tell him that,” Robin murmured.
“What if he doesn’t like me like that?” Steve asked. “How can I possibly risk our friendship over me being mopey about a dumb holiday?”
She pulled back and began to run her fingers through his hair. “I’ll tell you what. Go on the date. You treat it like it’s the real thing and see how he reacts. If he shies away then you know he just wants to be friends. But if he leans into it, then you go for a kiss at the end of the night.”
Steve raised his head. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Robin said firmly.
Steve nodded. “Yeah. I can do that. Thanks, Robs.” He kissed her cheek and went back to work.
She watched him go with a shake of her head. “Dingus.”

Before you, I tried not to get close to anyone because I was afraid that something would happen to those I love and I would lose them.
Before you, I had lost the meaning of life. I did not know what happiness means. I didn't know what life meant and I didn't even know what love meant.
But I have you now. Every time I hold you in my arms, I realize how lucky I am that you came into my life. How lucky I am to have you and you taught me the meaning of love again.
Yui I love you
Thank you for giving me this love.

"I can't believe this guy has a whole wing dedicated to his art." Emma muttered, staring at the painting in front of her. She didn't know who this "Killian Jones" was, but based on his art, she was glad she didn't.
"Why not?" A voice behind her asked.
She hadn't even realized she'd made her statement out loud, but she'd never been one to back down from a fight, even over something as trivial as art.
"It's tasteless," She turned to look at the stranger, only to find him more attractive than she expected, "and purposeless- like if absurdism and abstract art had a child in a soulless void. This guy isn't trying to communicate anything, and if he is, he's buried it so deep his viewership can't find out what it is."
"That's because they're not looking," He said, "besides, isn't art open to interpretation? 'Death of the author' and all that? Maybe the reason you're not seeing the message is that you're not looking hard enough."
Determined not to be outwitted by a cute art museum stranger, she turned back to the painting in front of her and tried to see what it could possibly mean. This piece in particular was of waves on a stormy sea- except one large blotch of a vibrant white, silhouetting a sailing ship.
"This one communicates that he knows how to paint water," Emma suggested, "but he's scared to try his hand at realism when it comes to boats. It almost looks like he intended to paint a magnificent vessel there- but backed down at the last minute."
The stranger laughed. "That's what this picture shows. But what does that communicate?"
"That he doesn't like to paint boats?"
"Then I suppose you haven't paid close attention to the rest of the exhibit," he said, "ships seem to be a recurring theme in Jones' work."
Emma bit her lip and nodded. She did recall seeing a few other paintings of ships in this wing.
"So the absence of the ship here is intentional," he continued, "he meant for this picture to be missing something."
 "A purpose?" Emma suggested.
He gave half a laugh, "You're closer than you think. I believe Jones' purpose," and here he paused, for a dramatic effect, "is that some purpose of his is missing. The sea has everything but a vessel to sail on it, and without it, something is missing. A clever metaphor, really- though it may be a bit lost on less intellectual self-proclaimed connoisseurs."
"Did he just insult me?" Emma thought, though she had to admit, she started to appreciate the meaning behind the piece- there'd been times she'd felt like that shipless sea herself. Still, she was determined not to be outwit by this stranger.
"That's just one piece," Emma said, then pointed to one she'd spent twenty minutes judging, "what do you think he meant to communicate by this?"
This one was more simplistic than the other, painted in only three colors, and only using basic shapes. It depicted a classic red heart on a white background, with three lines overtop the heart, something like thorns sticking out of the lines- and those were deep black.
"A valentine's heart a five year old could draw," Emma said, "basic shapes, a self proclaimed gritty design that a twelve year old emo with Microsoft Paint would be able to make for themselves."
"You've done it again," he said, "in attempting to swing a low blow on the painting, you've instead hit the nail on the head. This is simple, it is easily accessible- and I think that's because grief is too. Whatever pain inspired this piece, he must've found it extremely extraordinary, to paint it in such an ordinary manner- as if trying to make one understand it. See how the thorns cover the heart, almost like a jail cell, like you can't reach your heart through all that grief."
Emma nodded. "Or maybe the heart is trying to get out- and the grief is the cage you use to protect it."
"So this piece doesn't exist in a soulless void either?" he asked, and raised an eyebrow.
"Two out of twenty means nothing."
"Then perhaps discuss another?" he asked.
"What about that one?" Emma asked. A few paintings down the hall was an abstract array of brushstrokes, all positioned vertically on the canvas. All of them were in shades of red, pink and white, except for two of them. These two would've been directly parallel with each other if they were centered on the canvas, but one was on the top right and the other on the bottom left. They were a deeper shade of red, so much so that they were almost purple, and on further inspection one could even see a little bit of blue peeking out the edge of each stripe, on the sides facing their nearest edge.
"What do you think he doesn't mean to say in this one?" he asked her.
"It looks like Pong without the ball or the center line." Emma said. "Is this another 'something important is missing' too, like how," and here she feigned a dramatic tone of voice, "a game of Pong without the ball is already lost?"
"Not even close this time," he said, "and you were so good up until now."
"I thought art was up to interpretation?" Emma asked.
"True, but look at this," he pointed to the title of the piece.
"Silverstein's Masks?" Emma asked. "I don't know who Silverstein was, but he must've been some kind of picasso painting himself if he could wear this as a mask."
"So knowledgeable in the visual arts, but not in the literary," he shook his head, "I believe the Silverstein in question is Shel."
"Shel Silverstein?" Emma asked, "like, The Giving Tree."
"Ah, so you do know the classics," he said, "but you may not be familiar with one of Silverstein's lesser known works, a short poem almost like a tragedy, simply entitled Masks."
"And I take it you know the poem?"
"Quite familiar with it," he said, "'She had blue skin, and so did he. He kept it hid, and so did she. They searched for blue their whole lives through- then passed right by and never knew."
"And these stripes are supposed to represent that?" Emma asked, trying to hide how impressed she was by his recitation.
"You know more than you're letting on," he said, putting a hand on her shoulder to turn her attention back to the painting, pointing out details with his other hand, "see how these two almost look like they're moving, moving past each other. And while, for the most part, these appear like the others, you can see, just barely peeking out at the bottom- though not where the other could have ever noticed- that under all that red, they're blue."
"So?" Emma asked, understanding exactly what it meant, but wanting to hear him say it in his own words, finding his intellect and voice and his face altogether quite attractive.
"In trying to blend with the rest of the palate, they've closed themselves off from the opportunity to be understood- they've lost a chance to be truly loved because they tried to be something they weren't."
Emma nodded. "I think I get it now."
She looked up at the stranger, his hand still on her shoulder, his eyes a work of art unto themselves, one that she carefully inspected.
"Shall we discuss another one?" he asked, remembering his place and taking his hand off Emma's shoulder.
"I think you've proved your point," Emma said.
"Oh?" he asked, "and what point is that?"
Emma rolled her eyes. "Killian Jones is very clearly a talented artist with a clear message in his works."
The stranger smiled a little more than expected, almost sheepishly.
"I'm glad to hear you've changed your mind, miss…."
He held his hand out to her, and she took it, noticing how strong his grip was, but how delicate as well.
"Swan," Emma said, "Emma Swan. And you are?"
"Artist in residence," he smiled, "Killian Jones."

What Else is There to Do When You're Sick on Valentine's Day?
Word Count: 598
Warnings: Sinus infection, sick character
Fandom: Ghostbusters
Pairings: Egon Spengler x Cathleen Paige Spengler
Did I write this while dealing with a sinus infection of my own? Yes.
Did I write the end bit because I want to imagine what it would be like to meet Jim Henson? Yes.
Enjoy!
————————
Valentine's Day 1988
Cathleen coughed into her elbow, wincing at the feeling deep in her throat. She reached for her glass of water and took a sip; the cold water helped a bit, but not by much. And it still hurt to swallow.
Yesterday, she had hoped that her sinuses would clear up and her throat would stop hurting. But, then again, she had only started her antibiotic two days before, and she had woken up with a sore throat on Wednesday.
She grabbed another tissue to blow her nose as she saw Egon coming in from the kitchen with her dinner-- a bowl of her favorite stew with a plate of saltines on the side. She tightly wrapped her blanket around her as she tried to adjust herself to a sitting position. She considered taking another bath, even if she had taken one earlier that morning.
"Here you go-- careful," Egon advised as he handed the tray to her.
"Thank you," she rasped out.
Immediately, Cathleen took a saltine and dipped it into the stew. The heat soothing on her throat, and she needed her voice to recover as soon as possible.
Egon brushed a few locks of her hair out of her eyes; her hair had become a complete rat's nest in the last couple of days. And the dark circles under her eyes didn't need to confirm to him the rough time that she had getting to sleep. She had to take two Benadryl along with her night dose of antibiotic to knock herself out at night. Her nose was red and irritated, even though he had picked up the tissues with lotion in them. He hated seeing her so miserable.
Cathleen sighed as much as she could with her stuffed-up nose. Egon had sent Callie to stay with Ray because she had been so excited to spend the night at his place while her parents enjoyed Valentine's Day. Besides, Cathleen definitely deserved a kid-free night.
She was a bit relieved when Egon was so insistent that they cancel their Valentine's Day plans and stayed home that night. She felt too woozy and feverish to put on makeup and play dress-up (as much as she loved that). Staying out past midnight did not sound very appealing when she only seemed to be getting three hours of sleep.
Her stomach let out a growl that sounded as pathetic as she felt as she scooped up more of her stew with a cracker. "Egon, I'm sorry that we couldn't go out tonight."
"I don't mind," he assured her. "Even if you weren't sick, I would've been happy to just stay in. I'm just sorry that you're not feeling well."
"Not as sorry as me," Cathleen told him. "I feel like shit."
She held up a finger before grabbing another tissue and sneezing loudly into it, then blowing her nose again. She took another sip of water. She sneezed two more times before looking blearily at her husband.
"You can't possibly find me attractive right now," she said.
"Of course I do," Egon told her. "Cath, you're beautiful, even when you're covered in our daughter's vomit."
She smiled. "That's sweet to hear-- but, also, a little gross."
After Cathleen finished her dinner and Egon washed the dishes, the two of them snuggled on the couch, watching Muppets Take Manhattan.
"Wasn't it nice of Jim Henson to send us this advance copy after we ran into him filming that summer?" Cathleen asked.
Egon smiled. "Cath, we didn't just run into him-- you actively sought out where they were filming."

It was Valentine's Day and a birthday. Y/N was turning 19 this year and on Valentine's Day. Y/N had a secret that no one knew about at all. She was dating the Headmistress of Monster high Nora Bloodgood. The only ones who knew were her ghoul friends which were quite a lot of monsters. Y/N and Nora had matching rings on their middle fingers that they always wore. On the inside of the ring there was a date engraved when the two got together. On the outside they had each other's initials. Nora was a good 9 inches taller than Y/N making her 6'3 so Y/N was 5'6. Y/N was planning on surprising Nora at work today with the help of all of her ghoul friends.
Clawd and Deuce were supposed to ask Bloodgood for "help" with the decorations in the catacombs while Frankie, Clawdeen, Draculaura, Cleo, Ghoulia, Abbey and Lagoona decorated the whole school. Jinafire, Skelita and Venus snuck Y/N in as the four girls giggled. Bloodgood was back in her office by then and the rest of the ghouls met up with the four. "Y/N YOUR HERE" Draculaura shouted and Frankie covered Draculaura's mouth. "Don't shout it will echo" Frankie said and Y/N giggled before the shorter girl rushed over and hugged Y/N tightly. Draculaura pulled away before looking up at Y/N. "I still can't believe we have the exact same birthday maybe we're long lost relatives" she said causing the group to laugh. "Drac I don't think that would be possible Y/N's Human and you're a vampire" Clawd said wrapping an arm around Draculaura. She pouted causing Y/N to smile down at her. "Well we don't have to be the same species to be long lost relatives" Y/N said before she winked at Draculaura who giggled.
The group made their way to Bloodgood's office that was now decorated with Valentines decorations. "She's gonna be so happy to see you even though she doesn't show it we definitely know she is" Cleo said and Y/N just shook her head while smiling. Once they reached Bloodgood's office Frankie knocked on the door. Y/N hid behind all her friends as Draculaura stood beside her. The door opened and Bloodgood looked at everyone before narrowing her eyes. "What's wrong why are all of you here is there something wrong with the decorations again" Nora said and everyone smiled before stepping aside. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw Y/N standing there. Even though Draculaura was smaller she was able to push Y/N towards Nora without trouble.
"Hi Cara Mia" Y/N said as she smiled up at Nora. Y/N's smile widened when she saw a faint blush cross Nora's face from that nickname. Y/N's ghoul friends awed with heart eyes and Nora snapped out of it. "Get out of here" Nora said to Y/N's friends and they all giggled and chuckled before leaving. "Aw don't be so mean to them No-" before Y/N could finish she was pulled into Nora's office. Nora slammed the door shut behind her before wrapping Y/N up in a hug. "I missed you so much Mi Amor" Nora whispered out and Y/N immediately hugged back. "I missed you too handsome" Y/N said right before she was nudged in the back. She looked over her shoulder to see nightmare waiting. Y/N pulled away slightly and Nightmare walked over. "I won't forget about you cutie" Y/N said as she stroked Nightmares snout making her neigh.
"Happy Valentines day and Happy birthday" Nora said causing Y/N to look up at her. Nora was holding a box filled with red and white heart shaped gummies and some red and white roses. "OH" Y/N said before she smiled and took the items. Nightmare nudged Y/N again causing her to smile. "What you want a gummy" Y/N said and Nightmare nodded. "Too bad they're all for me" Y/N said as she booped the horse's nose. Nightmare stomped her hoof on the ground while huffing causing Y/N to smirk. "You two act like absolutely children" Nora said causing the two to look at her. "Well Nightmare is 3 years old so she technically is a child" Y/N said as she sat down on Nora's desk. Nora rolled her eyes before walking up to Y/N and kissing her on the lips. Y/N wrapped her legs around Nora before pulling her closer and deepening the kiss. Before they could continue Nightmare neighed and stomped her hooves onto the ground. Y/N groaned against Nora's lips causing the older woman to chuckle before pulling away. "You should really give one of the gummies to her she won't stop until you do" the Headmistress said causing Y/N to roll her eyes. "Fine whatever" Y/N said as she took a gummy out of the box before holding it out for Nightmare who took it and ate it. "Happy now" Y/N said and Nightmare neighed while nodding her head.
"So how'd you sneak over here without anyone seeing" Nora said as she looked down at Y/N who was eating some of the gummies. "Oh I had some help" Y/N said as she smirked before holding a gummy out for Nora who was still standing in front of Y/N. Nora leaned down and was about to take it from Y/N's hand when the door opened. "AW HOW CUTE" someone shouted. Nora straightened up before snatching the gummy from Y/N's hand causing the girl to smirk. Nora turned around to see Frankie and Clawdeen standing in the doorway smiling. "What are you two doing here shouldn't you be getting ready for the Valentine's party" she growled out and the two smirked. "We're already done we're just waiting for the three guests of honor to arrive" Clawdeen said before looking behind Nora to see Y/N sitting on the desk. "We'll be there shortly" Nora slightly growled out and the two nodded before dashing off. "Don't be mad at them Cara Mia" Y/N said as she grabbed Nora's face. Bloodgood looked at Y/N before sighing. "Alright we should get going" Nora said making Y/N confused. "Go where" Y/N said as she hopped off of Bloodgood's desk. "It's a surprise" Nora said as she grabbed Y/N's hand and interlocked their fingers together.
The two made their way down to the catacombs making Y/N confused. "Why are we in the catacombs" Y/N asked and Nora just continued walking. "You'll find out soon" she said before she took a skeleton key out and put it into the heart shaped wall. She turned the key and the door opened. The two walked in and Y/N heard the wall shut behind her making her gulp. "Is this where you kill me" Y/N said and Nora barked out a laugh before looking at Y/N with tears in her eyes. "No darling why would I do that" Nora asked and Y/N shrugged her shoulders. Nora shook her head before they arrived at the huge cave. It was pitch black making Y/N squint her eyes to try and see. "Why is it so dar-" before Y/N could finish candles lit up and monsters jumped out from everywhere shouting "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to Y/N causing her to gasp. "Happy birthday birthday buddy" Draculaura said as she hugged Y/N from the side. Y/N looked down before hugging Draculaura back.
Y/N was stuffing her face full with food when Deuce and Cleo walked over. "Where's Headmistress Bloodgood at" Cleo asked causing Y/N to look up. "She's over there sitting at a table" Y/N said pointing to one of the tables that were far away from the students. "Why isn't she right here with you" Deuce said and Y/N chuckled. "She doesn't like showing her soft side in front of all the other students you should know that by now" Y/N said and the three laughed before Y/N headed back to the table with a plate of human food. Y/N sat down next to Nora who looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "That's sure a lot of food" she said and Y/N smiled before nodding her head. "Yeah thought we could share some" Y/N said as she held out a French fry for Nora.
Y/N ghoul friends all watched as Nora took the fry from Y/N hand before eating it. They watched as the two giggled and smiled at each other while occasionally feeding each other. "They're so cute together" Skelita said as they all watched Y/N giggle at something Nora said. "They're meant to be" C.A. Cupid said and everyone nodded. "They truly are Happy Valentines guys" Frankie said and everyone said happy Valentines back.
