just wanted to say that i think it's quite beautiful the way how modern au katara's writing + her role as the narrator in atla + the way in ur modern au she uses fantasies/thought exercises to soothe herself are connected. what other similar fantasies do you think she might employ in that au, and which ones in atla itself? Does she believe that Aang will save the world because she has to?
yes !!!! i'm glad you Get it. i mean obviously the concept of the avatar doesn't exist, and the systemic issues plaguing our world are less obvious and blatant to a girl living in the imperial core itself (which isn't to say that she wouldn't fight to dismantle us imperialism and global capitalism ofc). but she definitely does nonetheless see aang as an irreproachable perfect angel who can do no wrong. not in a "he will save the world from evil" way, just in a "he's my best friend and he's the best human being ever" way, but still. i think she mostly just indulges in normal teen girl fantasies, like that her crush likes her back, or that azula will spontaneously combust into flames in the middle of the soccer field. but then she also has "saving the world" fantasies, which are part "staging/leading the glorious revolution" and part "living in a utopian borderless classless world." sokka, whose number one fantasy is getting hit by a truck (he gets to be out of commission, maybe even comatose for a while, and he gets paid a lot in damages. it's ideal) thinks that katara's naive little daydreams are foolish and trivial, but her constant desire to see the best in everyone (except for azula) and imagine the best possible world sustains her, and her joie de vivre is truly beautiful, inspirational, and contagious.

Sometimes I wonder: how many times have I read about wolfstar’s first kiss? In how many different ways? This fic is certainly a good example of a first kiss fic. It’s so so lovely, with the boys being all stupid and sweet. If you want some pure fluff, you should definitely read this!

the gaang + The Wall
...okay yeah.
aang ran away first chance he got. he hated working on the wall. it was so boring and tedious and pointless. he doesn’t know what lies beyond the wall, but surely it can’t be worse than this, right?
every day katara climbs to the top of the wall and gives a speech to her fellow workers about how they are prisoners of their own accord, and if they wish to break their chains they must only take up arms with the very bricks with which they have been supplied. she throws bricks until the wall security guards tase her and hold her in detention for the rest of the day, as they always do. but she always gets back up on that wall by tomorrow. rinse and repeat.
sokka spends his days begging katara not to start shit again and begging the security guards to release katara from holding. in the few blissful moments in between all that though, he gets to spend some quality time flirting with suki by seeing who can lay more bricks first. there’s a strict “no kissing on the wall” policy, so this is the closest they’ll ever get to dating.
toph hates laying bricks because she claims she could just build a way bigger, better wall with earthbending anyway. but apparently “that’s not how things are done here.” she fucking hates it here. she wishes she could just run away like aang did, but she doesn’t wanna leave sokka, and sokka won’t leave katara behind, who stays out of the stubborn insistence that one of these days there will be a revolution, and it is her obligation to fight in it. (toph thinks she’s a total idiot.)
zuko is a firm believer in the wall. if the wall was pointless, then his life would have no meaning, so of course the wall has is very meaningful, and they are all doing important work. fucking duh. unfortunately for zuko, though, his fervent belief in what he’s doing at the wall doesn’t stop him from being absolutely terrible at his job. he’s the worst bricklayer on the entire site. it’s fucking embarrassing.
suki doesn’t really mind working on the wall tbh. it’s nice to be part of something bigger than yourself, yknow? plus she gets to hang out with lots of cool people, and it’s fun trying to see how many rules you can get away with breaking in one day. if only sokka wasn’t so busy all the time trying to prevent katara from getting assassinated, then life would truly be perfect.
mai thinks the wall is all a bunch of boring bullshit, and barely bothers laying bricks, only doing as many as she needs to per day so as not to get punished by the guards. she mostly spends her time making fun of zuko for his awful bricklaying technique or doing impressions of the other workers with ty lee.
ty lee sees the wall as a social activity. she loves manipulating boys into laying bricks for her so that it seems like she’s actually going above and beyond for the project when in reality she hasn’t touched a single brick in months. the irony is that she’s actually much stronger than all those boys she’s constantly ordering around, and could lay her own bricks in record times, but where’s the fun in that?
azula loves her work on the wall and is extremely good at it. that’s why she was promoted to shift supervisor, which is basically the same job for the same pay (one penny a day) except she also has the added responsibility of reprimanding the other kids when they seem to be slacking off, and in truly egregious cases, reporting them to the guards. frankly, zuko does probably deserve to get reported, but she usually just lets him off with a warning, because she knows that he can’t help having been born with particularly limp wrists. besides, she knows how dedicated he is to the wall. one of these days, she’s gonna meet the guy in charge, and, wall willing, become his successor. she can’t wait for the day she runs this wall, so that she can truly maximize efficiency. she already has so many ideas. if only that annoying rabblerouser katara and her delinquent friends weren’t such hooligans, as their superviser, their insubordination makes her look bad. it’s infuriating.
katara and azula get into brick-throwing fights at least once a week. they’ve both been concussed more times than they can count.

Announcing the Sapphic Winter Fest 2021-2022!
a fun, low stress event meant for celebrating any and all sapphic relationships across ALL fandoms and original works <3
RULES:
all fic, art, and poetry must be about a romantic sapphic relationship between two or more fictional people. real person fiction is not allowed. any and all LGBT+ identities are allowed, as long as neither character in the primary relationship is a man. genderbends are accepted!
you must be 13 or older to participate. minors may not write anything rated explicit (or mature due to sexual themes) or draw anything NSFW.
fics must be at least 1000 words long, and poetry must be at least 500. there is no maximum word length!
no incest/pedophilia/noncon is allowed at all, and any NSFW works may only portray consenting adults.
FAQ:
how will posting work?: the order of posting will be determined once people have signed up. we aim to post everything to an ao3 collection and once everything has been posted, creators will be revealed
do i have to be sapphic to participate?: not at all! anyone of any gender or sexuality is welcome
can i make more than one work?: you can write/draw as many works as you would like, but please submit one before starting the next!

Regulus has been under the influence of a love potion for a couple years in which time he'd done everything to make his wife Severina Black nee Snape smile. Including being a sacrifice in dark rituals or sleeping with other people for favours. When the Potters are murdered and Severina forgets Regulus in the ruins of the cottage, Sirius notices his brother is Really Not Okay and takes both him and Harry to his flat. Really scratched an itch for me :D mind the tags for non con drugging and other triggers.
Remus and Regulus: Horcrux hunters by Oliivii Remus finds out what Regulus is about to do and forces his help on the younger man. They're Horcrux hunters! It comes at the cost of their love lifes. Pregnant Narcissa joins the gang later, and we get to see Rem and Reg daddying baby Draco :D
Sugar Snow by Entwinedlove Walburga can't leave the house for five minutes because Orion does not an attentive father make. Thankfully the little boys found themselves a fun and safe, if a little messy, activity to keep them occupied!
Something Darker than Black by Starr_Burst Regulus gets yeeted from the cave to 1995. Fred and George find him at a muggle hospital and take him to Grimmauld's.
Wisdom In The Face of Danger by AshJuillet Regulus nopes out of becoming a Death Eater last minute, and drags himself to his brother's doorstep after the aftermath.
