People try to get onto me for liking problematic or toxic ships don't seem to realize I like them not in spite of their toxicity, but because of it. They aren't aspirational, they are entertaining+ The melodrama, the horror on other characters faces, just the sheer, "this is so fucked up," vibe. It feeds me. It is like watching a train wreck, and pulling up a seat and some popcorn.
I love watching two deeply fucked up people find their own twisted version of happiness together, no matter how unhealthy.
Edit:
I live right here

It's amazing how Todd putting Black in a coma or Vegas electrocuting Pete's balls enraged me less than Ray calling Sand a whore or taunting him about his financial situation. Like by the end of Not Me and KinnPorsche, I was a strict toddblack and vegaspete shipper, but by the end of Only Friends, I wanted Sand 2 countries away from Ray. Because see, Black and Pete are more insane than the men who hurt them and there's an equality in their relationships. Black put Todd in a coma timeout and Pete is.. well Pete, like no Theerapanyakul could handle this guy if he truly went batshit. And so there's an equality in the delicious toxicity of toddblack and vegaspete which is nowhere to be found between RaySand where Ray holds the upper hand and Sand does the emotional labour and gets punished for it by Ray. And in my eyes, that makes them worse than the coma couple or the mafia torture bitches probably because they, Sand and Ray, hit so close to home. Because while men like Todd and Vegas might not exist in real life with their insanity yet true love and fucked up devotion and friendship, men like Ray do who use and abuse and return with tears and apologies only for the cycle to repeat again.

You know what??
I am FOR romanticizing and glorifying abusive relationships. 100%.
Because abusers don't tend to actually do that. Abusers point out that other people have it so much worse then you do, and talk about realistic (if a bit dark) depictions of that abuse. My abuser wouldn't portray what she did to me as anything but "100% normal thing that happens all the time, not even worth complaining about". It'd be a footnote in her story.
She wouldn't write it as "lashing out due to poor coping mechanisms" or "they're both mentally ill and trying to improve!"
Want to know who does tend to make those excuses for fictional abusers? Victims.
Victims that are either unaware that that isn't normal behavior, or are writing wish-fulfillment where things could have gone differently.
So yes, I'm actually for "problematic" depictions of abuse, and want those who weren't in that place to shut up about the fact that it gets made. It isn't for you.

Hot take but I don’t like michie, imo it’s a really toxic ship and seeing people romanticize it makes me really uncomfortable.
Now I don’t dislike it just because I think that both of them are straight, I personally hc max as bi :]
But I feel like it’s really a shitty relationship in general. Max physically harassed and assaults him, and yes I know Jon said something about Richie feeling the worst about Max’s death BUT I feel like he felt shitty about killing him not like he killed somebody he was into.
And remember Max came back from the grave and physically assaults and beats Richie so bad that SAM FUCKING SWEETLY had to throw up. I don’t care what you say if you ship Michie with max still or once have been bullying Richie that’s really icky 👎👎👎
if u want a gay richie relationship PETER AND RICHIE or somebody who bullied richie but isn’t as bad JASON AND RICHIE, if you wanna silly fun max relationship MAX AND GRACE! 🫡🫡

Toxic Sludge Yuri Tournament: Submissions Open! Will close Feb. 14th (how romantic !!!)
I'm going to change up the banner and profile picture, among other things, for this blog but I figured I might as well start the submission process. Some rules and stuff that'd I'd really appreciate if you read before submitting:
Has to be WLW. It's Yuri guys
No antis pls. You all were so silly last tournament. Throwing up in my inbox only makes the ships stronger you know.
Can be from any kind of media. I will also accept submissions from problematic media, but I reserve the right to not include something for any reason.
No real people! No Taylor Swift x Katy Perry or whatever
If your ship is from a media with a lot of gore in it, please make sure the image you submit has minimal gore, especially if it's live action.
On the topic of images, I would prefer canon pictures but if there aren't any, feel free to send in fanart IF and only IF the artist consents to their work being used in this tournament, and you have proof that they know what their work is being used in and are fine with it. (Credit will, of course, be given in any post that uses the picture.)
Want your ship to get in, but you feel it's not popular enough? Make sure to write compelling propaganda ! Propaganda is a huge factor in who makes it to the bracket.
This tournament is capped at 64 participants. If we do not get 64 participants, we will do 32 with preliminaries if necessary. If we don't get 32, we'll do 16 and so on. However, we will do no more than 64.
This tournament focuses on toxic relationships. Your ship can be siblings or whatever, but that can't be the only thing going for it- they need to be super codependent, or try to kill each other, or something. So yeah, problematic ships are good, just make sure they're toxic too.
You can submit multiple ships, but please do not submit the same ship over and over.
I think that's it! Feel free to pop into my ask box if you have any further questions.
New here and want to see how the last tournament went? Here.

i kinda hate bloberta puppington idk
its really easy to hate clay puppington, his characterization as the show's unflinching central antagonist is as unanimous as it is understandable.
however im probably the only person on earth who doesn't see him as the big bad, in fact i feel for him (shock horror). not in the coquette way or the equally misogynistic contrarian way, but out of genuine surprise that a character who gets universal sympathy and pushback in my hatred for them isn't the center of ppl's ire
— and that is bloberta.
yes ik, clay is responsible for his own actions, and there's only so much excusing that can be done before it overlooks one's agency and the resulting harm inflicted, but the way ppl gloss over exactly why and how clay ended up the way he did baffles me to no end.
clay was an initially decent guy, albeit a bit non-committal and weak-willed, which makes for redpill brainrot when mixed with toxicity, as evidenced by clay himself, but literally the only reason he ended up that way is bc he was saddled with a dependency by someone who gaslit and physically assaulted him into a relationship against his will, which is horrifying, especially in the context of his sexuɑlity. like bloberta isn't even a good mom, and ik that social conditioning + pressure inherently alienates ppl from their societal expectations i.e motherhood, kids... but then i don't understand how and why bloberta is characterized as this woeful damsel archetype when she's barely redeemable and merely overshadowed by someone more overtly troubled. dare i say she's victim only to her actions, bc what would've been the alternative?
clay staying passive and malleable and dependent, is that not infinitely more horrific? she literally ruined his life/entrapped him, stayed with him bc sunk costs, despite how that endangers her kids, and then is framed like the victim despite everything being a direct consequence of her actions, i just don't get it. ppl ascribe this sympathetic angle to her bc woe, she felt pressured and she's nuanced and obviously unhealthily coping but i hardly see that as a legitimate enough excuse for her actions, and im genuinely stumped by how ppl so readily neglect everything she did bc clay's now worse. like idk man, welcome to the consequences of your actions ig.

People can feel however they want about ships, but I wish that they'd learn to dislike things without having to pathologize them. Not everything is "toxic".
I've seen people refer to KageHina and TsukkiYama as toxic. To me, for a relationship (platonic or otherwise) to be toxic, it has to meet the following criteria:
Is there a power imbalance?
Is there any sort of abuse going on?
Does Person A feel genuinely afraid of Person B?
Can Person A tell Person B if they're upset about something, without putting themselves at risk for harm?
Does one person control the other person?
With KageHina, yes, I personally would've liked to have seen a few moments of genuine niceness from Kageyama (not OOC, but nice in his own way), but he doesn't abuse Hinata. They have argued and fought, and Hinata only pretends to be intimidated by him. He puts him in check, and calls him out on things when necessary. Those things don't happen in toxic relationships.
Tumblr media
They're just hugging
With TsukkiYama, the "Shut up, Yamaguchi" "Gomen, Tsukki" thing is a schtick between them. It's usually said after Yamaguchi has already said something sassy or annoying to Tsukki, so clearly he is not afraid of him. He yelled at him in the bathroom, FFS
Does this look like fear to you
Tumblr media
You don't have to pathologize things that you don't like. Something can simply not be your thing; it doesn't have to be labeled as harmful. I think people are so afraid to have a dissenting opinion in fandoms that they feel the need to over explain their preferences. This leads to people labeling banter and inside jokes as "abuse".
There are Haikyuu ships that I don't like, but barring incest or actual adult-child ships (no, a 17/18 year old 3rd year dating a 15/16 year old 1st year is not predatory, nor is there a power imbalance; go outside), I genuinely don't see any Haikyuu ships as harmful; there are some dynamics that I simply don't like.
(None of this applies to fan content; portray characters however you like)

I get really annoyed by people who think that a problematic / toxic relationship necessarily involves physical abuse. Like it was a pure evidence. And here I am talking about a fictitious relationship.
Sorry, but no.
There are toxic relationships that can completely be written without there being gratuitous physical violence.
Daemyra, in the HOTD version for example (and not for the Fire and Blood version, who Daemyra is not toxic for me) is undeniably toxic, or at least problematic with episode 4 which demonstrates a certain attempt at Daemon's manipulation of Rhaenyra, although it ultimately does not go as far as at the end. But was there a need for him to strangle her in episode 10 ? No. Absolutely not. Besides, it's even rather incoherent.
Tumblr media
Or the Darkling who also strangles Alina in season 2, even though he never hits /physically attacks her in the books. And no, the case of the amplifier does not count, because even if it is imposed by force on Alina, the Darkling remains disconcertingly gentle when he puts it on her. He clearly wasn't the type of character to do that.
Tumblr media
Same for Lestat with Louis in the Interview With the Vampire show, it doesn't seem to me from my recollection of the book's version for the Loustat relationship, that Lestat ever did such a horrible and violent thing to Louis.
Tumblr media
And I'm tired of this kind of bullshit.
Already because it only boils down toxic relationships to being physically violent, which is not the case in real life, and it's definitely not good to have this tendency to always add that when depicting toxic relationships, which can give a biased image of the latter.
The proof why I'm making this post is that I literally came across someone saying "it's stupid for someone to say they like fictional toxic relationships and not like when there is violence so that, well, what exactly did you expect ?".
Except that sorry, but toxic relationship is not always = physical violence. A toxic relationship can be devoid of it.
Then, no, it is not because a toxic fictional character will be physically violent with people that he will also be violent with the woman he loves. Sorry, but can you seriously imagine Cezare Borgia hitting Lucrecia ?
Tumblr media
I do not think so, no ! Yet the relationship is clearly toxic !
So yes, we can like toxic things, but depending on certain cases, not appreciate physical violence at all.
And it's tiring to hear the opposite.
Please note, I have nothing against fictitious toxic relationships / toxic ships with physical violence. I have some myself, exemple :
Tumblr media
But it must make sense with the characters represented, and not be gratuitous.
Just like we need to stop adding gratuitous physical violence to the adaptation of a relationship that didn't have it in the original material.
All of this frustrates and annoys me immensely.

Rayfrog: “hmmmm that age gap is weird-“
Rayhawk: “Yeah we’re gonna ship Dolph, who has a massive list of trauma he’s been collecting since the age of 4 and just gotten out of a relationship with with an old man he’s been dating since he was 18, with Rayman/Ramon , a much older man who also has trauma and was a celebrity but most notably a celebrity for children’s entertainment. Between Dolph’s lack of childhood and the daddy issues Alex gave him, that alone would already cause a lot of conflict. But combine that with Ramon’s love for children and how big of a role he played in the indoctrination of Eden’s military that made Dolph a child soldier , then that’s just a recipe for an incredibly tense and messy relationship. But also Dolph and Ramon are narrative foils of each other, so naturally they remind each other of themselves , though they hate the person Eden made them into so naturally they hate the person who reflects that. Their trauma and pain is so eerily similar that they understand each other in a way no one else would. Does Dolph remind Ramon of his younger self? Does Ramon remind Dolph of his more angry past? Is their relationship a shallow attempt to comfort a part of themselves that they see in the other , as they both know they no longer have anyone who would give them affection without a catch-“
Sarade: “yeah I want Sarah and Jade to make out sloppy style, amen”
