liked the short but it's gonna be pretty transparent and frustrating if the shorts just become the only places the female characters get anything resembling storylines or characterization

even then this one didn't do a whole lot with Millie. When Sallie Mae kept saying she never visited I really expected her to say something like 'I've been so busy because the business is struggling, my boss is unreliable at the best of times, the receptionist is even more unreliable but the boss would never fire her and they both bully my husband constantly'

but instead IMP is apparently doing so well they just gave her the day off?

Well no. Millie said business is really slow so they didn’t need her to come in that day (hope Blitzø still paid her though cause she’s his best employee) the business could use a new pair of hands a better schedule and less feathers.

I liked the latest short but the whole convo at the end felt...idk, a touch inorganic? like if the writers had bothered to add one line or one expression in Harvest Moon suggesting Sallie Mae was struggling to run the farm alone or missed Millie or resented her for not visiting more often, it would've landed a lot more. instead she's mostly just used to mock Moxxie the whole time

but that would've taken like, planning and investment in Millie's backstory

and they couldn't do that in an episode centred around visiting Millie's literal family and finding out about her home life, so...

I hope we really do return to the wrath ring in season 3 and continue pulling this thread and have Sallie come over more. I was kidding on Twitter but if Sallie joined we’d have stronger female presence and trans rep and something a little new for Millie to do

listening to the LVL UP recording of Friday's panel, interesting stuff so far:

announcements about the rest of the season coming over the rest of the con (my bet is Saturday)

dubs coming for (I think) HB in other languages

Viv kind of admitted shorts are a way to address there being too many characters and just fill in gaps where there apparently isn't room in the show (plus a way to create more content) - I'd watch it for her exact wording if you're/anyone is interested though, since the audio isn't the best to catch exactly what they're saying

they show the short right at the end of the panel so idk if they'd air a full episode on Saturday or save it for a YouTube premiere

It’s kinda depressing. Because stolas took over the show with his family drama all the other better, more likeable, and more fun characters were shelved to make way for him.

honestly so curious about what the production pipeline actually is at Spindle nowadays.

like yeah I can understand wanting to drop a little something around Christmas, but that music video must have taken a decent amount of time if only for the visual effects alone

and then the short is only 5 mins, but that still also takes time and resources away from the main episodes

an episode which is the closest thing the show has to paying off a plot point they've been setting up for some time (even if they don't have the stomach to make Stolas actually apologize for anything)

and yet it keeps getting shoved to the back of the line? I don't get it

is it nearly done and they just wanted to wait until LVL UP to get things moving again on the back half of the season?

I have absolutely no idea but that Look My Way was the most pathetic abuse apologia and waste of resources I’ve ever seen and I honestly and still flabbergasted that this horrible story is being framed romantically

you can kinda tell Viv didn't write the short because, besides actually focusing on Millie it lets Sallie Mae refer to Stolas as 'that blueblooded bird' instead of being forced to inexplicably love him like M&M usually do nowadays

I definitely noticed that. Bc if she wrote it all the men would have more lines than the women and there sure as hell wouldn’t be female bartenders or female bus drivers.

And yeah it makes no sense how much m and m revere stolas while he abuses and terrified them in response. But it really felt like a massive relief

If you’re going to watch the short they put out after LVL UP, I only have one take-away from it:

Millie is fine when Sallie May, who we have no reason to believe is holding back because of what we’re shown of Wrath Ring culture and the sister relationship, hits her on the head with a bottle.

I love those two country bumpkins ok—im so glad we passed the Bechdel test a second time

Not one man spoke a single line it was incredible
