It's not always that deep. I'm sure they have plenty of media interests that will get SOMEBODY to dissect for "Reasons You Are Bad Person"

I'm not liking how especially comfortable people are getting with guilt by association, no matter how vague/tiny said "association" is.

If I buy an icecream and it was handed to me by a someone who later commits armed robbery later that week, do I also need to be arrested for the damages??

Not to mention I’ve made weirder posts in the past. I’ve made ship art of Fionna and Ice Queen/Simon and Finn which is an adult x minor ship (Finn and Fionna are adults in my art but it’s still an age gap), how come that was completely ignored in favour of a reblogged post talking about how wrong child marriage is? Like, I’d imagine stuff I’ve actually done and said would be worth bringing up more than a reblog of a point I’m sure a majority agrees on??

I got an entire au where a male character’s body was unethically changed to have an artificial womb and he ends up having accidental/forced pregnancies and while my intention of said au is meant to be a horror , does anon really expect me to go around judging other people’s fictional tastes when I’m casually doing that sort of thing myself?

Like, there’s definitely stuff that I cannot stand and some that’s straight up triggering for me but I find if you don’t talk about the stuff that makes you uncomfortable and/or triggered online, the less likely you are of random people bringing that topic up to you to begin with

That other anon feels like they’re either trying to get a “gotcha” moment to claim me as “problematic” to interact with or feels like they need a “justified” reason to block me because they like what I post but don’t want to be “problematic” themselves

Just anti things is actually a pretty good blog for documenting how bad antis behave. I don’t agree with everything they say (especially in regards to fiction involving real people) but refer to 2 on why I thought this was a good post to share

The post in question is talking about how child marriage is wrong despite being perfectly legal in several different countries

Really interesting your main issue with that post is the source I find it from. Like , it was very explicitly about how some countries allow things such as child abuse to be legal and discussing how something that’s legal isn’t inherently morally good, and something that’s illegal isn’t inherently morally bad

Like, anon I really don’t know what you want from this? If you’re trying to get me to go “I’m a pro shipper!” I’m not going too because like I said, I had bad experiences and find the terms pro and anti meaningless

That includes how I interact with people and posts online btw, unless the person makes it their entire identity or if there’s some disturbing stuff attached (like Lily Orchard) , I’m going to ignore the label and judge a person on how treat actual human beings

I'm glad to see you don't align with proshipping and have a nuanced take on it. I agree that both sides can be very hostile in the wrong situations. I'm only asking on anon because I don't want to mess with all that myself. You're absolutely right that people are extremely hostile and black-and-white about it, I was just a little alarmed to see you reblog something with a response from a person who has some crap like "I choose not to see this character as a minor" on their page. I didn't want to make a judgment call without a response from you, so I'm glad I asked. That aside, maybe you should disengage from this specific discourse? You seem to have been burned by it pretty badly. I think you could make the same points without giving yourself all this anxiety by staying so fixated on it. /gen

I even avoid interacting with posts that use the pro and anti ship terms unless I feel that it’s important to share the information

While I totally get being uncomfortable regarding underage characters (there’s a certain anime sub genre I can’t stand) I am also a huge fan of Kill La Kill , so I think trying to be like “how dare you like a fictional minor!” to that person while openly having said I like a show with these designs for high school girls

Short answer:

I think pro and anti are both stupid fandom labels that are completely pointless and mean nothing considering how often I seen them following each other despite having DNIs saying otherwise. Not to mention everyone seems to have different definitions of those terms so like , why even bother? Idk what specific post you're referring too but I agreed with the point , so make that of what you will

Long answer:

I actually had some really awful experiences as a teenager with pro shippers that, while I got out safe , was one of those "holy shit that was a close call and I could've been in serious danger" situations. I would go into detail but I don't owe random strangers online my personal information

Staying that I will say I don't like antis either , I don't use tiktok because I still get hate comments for liking boyfriends (I tried reporting most of them but some of the stuff was utterly vile) and I'd even argue antis are just fueling the pro shippers motivation to do what pro shippers want than anything else

I think pro and anti ship discourse makes it far harder to call out actual predators and abusers in fandom spaces because people care more about fictional characters than protecting real people from harm

Like remember Zamii and how the SU fandom harassed her to the point of suicide? I bet you didn't know the original call out on Zamii wasn't actually meant for Zamii , it was meant fro a pedophile known as Griddles

But most people, pro and anti , probably don't know that or worse flat out ignore it when discussing that situation

My actual stance is art shouldn't be censored and neither should criticism of that art be censored. I also think the relationship between fiction and reality is nuanced. People can enjoy messed up stuff in fiction and be perfectly moral and good people, while fiction can be used to harm vulnerable people and those two sentences can co exist

As much as I dislike where Star Vs. wound up and ended as a series in execution (the wrap-up eps could of been WAY better if they hadn't meandered with shipping melodrama). Eclipsa and Globgore's entire collective arch and how it re-informed Heinous/Meteora went so sincerely hard.

Like, in isolation it's a story about a family being torn apart and reclaiming themselves in a world hellbent on destroying them, their daughter turned into a deeply broken woman who was robbed of her childhood and being given a miraculous "Second Chance Rebirth" to have the life she should have been promised with her parents.

Genuine emotionally charging stuff and probably powerful wish-fulfillment for people who would have ended up identifying with one or all of the family in hindsight.

Propaganda:

Mutsuki and Urie: Listen. LISTEN. The communication issues. It's so *chef's kiss*. Urie is more or less canonically in love with Mutsuki after that time he impaled him and instead of getting mad Mutsuki gave him a hug. But he refuses to admit he cares about him even though it's fairly obvious that he's his favorite person. Also Mutsuki is obsessed with their teacher, who after a series of traumatizing experiences he stalks and tries to murder, so that's another rift in their relationship. Urie is so clearly jealous and also enables Mutsuki's unhealthy coping mechanism by just ignoring the fact that there is definitely a problem until it becomes too big to ignore and Mutsuki inadvertently nearly causes an apocalypse. And then they fight and Mutsuki tries to kill Urie. They're both such deeply fucked up people and they have such huge communication issues that they're practically on different planets and they've each tried to seriously hurt each other multiple times and they insult each other (or Urie insults Mutsuki before he falls deeply in love with him) and also Mutsuki is somewhat canonically trans and it's Not Handled Well but also they're an amazingly fucked up shit and I love them
