for @drarrymicrofic; royalty
"Is this a joke?" asked Harry.
"I'm afraid not." Hermione was so stone-faced an onlooker would assume she was delivering a death sentence: which, as far as Harry was concerned, it might as well be.
Malfoy preened. "Everyone knows the Malfoy line has illustrious members," he boasted, mouth curved into a sharp white smile. "But we all assumed the King Arthur thing was just a rumour." He paused. "Not that I'm surprised, mind you."
"Yeah," said Harry. "Now everything about you makes sense. Royal inbreeding must be worse than regular pureblood inbreeding."
Malfoy made a rude gesture. Harry made one back. Hermione said, "Look, there are... he needs a bodyguard, and you're the best in the department."
Harry glanced at Malfoy, who'd mastered the art of looking down haughtily before anyone knew anything about royal lineage and was employing it now. He scowled, bowed mockingly, and lifted his head to meet Malfoy's eyes. "My lord," he said, which was meant to come out sarcastic but ended up sort of—rough, or low, and suddenly Malfoy's haughty gaze looked a bit nervous.
"My knight," he replied, an eyebrow arched, but his voice was soft and off-kilter, and Harry realised this job was about to be much worse or much better than he'd thought.

꧁❦꧂
T'was a warm summer day, and everything was as best as it could be, until the rain showed up. You could say that it was very uncalled for. Those at the pool, including you and friends, started off dry and warm then became drenched and cold. It wasn't the best way to start of a summer day, but it wasn't the worst.
You didn't despise the cold weather, actually it was rather nice. Yes, you couldn't do much outside, but there was much to do indoors, such as reading in bed, baking a cake, or simply observing the beauty of the falling droplets of water the created art on your own window. Though not everyone felt this way, you definitely did.
Sitting in your room, listening to Silhouettes by The Rays, peacefully, a sudden bang of thunder occurred.
"Is it really that bad?" you thought aloud, setting your novel down and sauntering towards the window.
Peering out of the already opened window, you noticed the thunderstruck and how powerful it was. Despite the chill of the wind, the sound of rain softly hitting the earth was calming. Could you get hypothermia and get sick? Yes, no doubt about it. Was it worth it? Also, yes.
Gazing downwards, away from the lightning bolts, you noticed a… man? He was walking, in the rain, by himself. You shifted the window up just a little bit, and put your whole upper body out the other end.
Was that Eddie Munson?
“Eddie?” you asked, yelling at the boy. “Is that you?!”
“Y/n?” he looked up.
“What the hell are you doing in the rain, Eds?! You could get sick,” you exclaimed, worried about the sake of this man.
“Yea, I know," he supposed, scratching the back o his head with one arm. "I went to a friend's house an I lost my way back!"
That was most definitely not true. He had gone into the woods to retrieve the drugs that Reefer Rick owed him. But he wasn't going to say that to the girl he liked, is he?
"Mhm, ok, why don't you stay here until the storm stops?! It’s getting kind of late, plus my parents wouldn't mind!" you offered, being generous. If he stayed out there any longer he's going to get very sick.
"No, it's fine, I can use a bit of exercise," he reassured, not wanting to seem like a burden.
"Are you sure?! You look cold, no?!"
Did Eddie really want to walk two miles more than he already did? Or stay in a warm house where he could dry off and relax for a bit. He didn't really have a choice, so he chose the best, more reasonable option.
"On a second thought," he started. "You don't mind if stay with you, do you?!"
You smiled joyfully, happy with the outcome of the argument.
"Not at all, wait near the front door! I'll be there in a second!" you began to run to the door, awaiting for Eddie's arrival.
As Eddie jogged to the door, it had already opened. You appeared out the door with two towels and a blanket in hand. By the time Eddie arrived, you noticed how he was awfully drenched and was practically shivering because of the rain.
"C'mon Eds, don’t wanna freeze, now do we?"
He came inside the warm home and was wrapped up in the towels and blanket you offered.
"Let's go to my room," you directed, beginning to walk up the stairs with Eddie following. He looked at the wall just before the staircase, it was nearly covered with old school photos of you and Dustin.
Dustin was already aware of this “crush” Eddie had, but he was not aware that it was on his own sister. He assumed it was Chrissy Cunningham or someone from the crowd.
“Hey, Dustin, do you happen to have the mattress Mike used when he stayed over?” you asked, standing on the doorway of your brother’s room.
“Yea, it’s in the storage room,” he said, looking up from whatever project he was working on.
You nodded, pivoting towards the other end of the hallway.
“You can wait in my room, if you’d like, it’ll take me a minute to get across the hallway,” you smiled, continuing to walk up the stairs.
It was a fairly easy distance from the staircase to your room, your door was covered and posters and stickers. Upon entering your room, Eddie was stunned, yet not surprised by the decoration of your room. Posters of bands and movies crowded your wall. It was colorful, but dull. In the dark corner of your room hid an electric guitar.
"Sweet," Eddie admired, going I've to pick it up. "A flying V." He stroked the strings, as well caressing the v shaped body of the guitar. Right as you walked in, carrying the mattress with you, Eddie began playing a riff. Stopping your entrance, you let go and watched from the doorway.
The tall, lean man with long fingers and an odd side grin was delicately playing your electric guitar made of solid Mahogany. You stand there admiring the music while observing his hands pluck and strum the steel guitar strings. You cautiously move up to him to get a better look at how his hands are positioned, leaving the mattress behind. Although the musician's hands look to be moving quickly and with difficulty, they actually seem quite simple. The song seemed to end, as the pluck of the strings came to a stop.
“You must be a guitar expert,” you remarked, going back to carry the bare mattress.
“Oh, me? Thanks,” he smiled, gazing back down to the guitar. “How do you have it? It’s literally so perfect.”
“Before my dad and mom were officially divorced, he gifted it to me. Said he didn’t need it,” you answered, setting up Eddie’s bed for the night.
“Oh, sorry about that,” he said, seemingly embarrassed about what he said.
“No, don’t be, he was a douche to my mom, anyway,” you replied. “Tell me about your life, Eds, I wanna know more about you.”
“Me? Really? There’s nothing really interesting about me,” he said.
“What? Of course there is, I here you and your club laughing and having fun backstage of the theatre all the time. Surely there’s something interesting, I know there is.”
“Oh, uh, thanks,” he stammered. “Well, I was born here in Hawkins, Indiana…”
And so he went on, spilling his life story to you, as you sat there carefully listening to what he was saying. He isn’t what people say he is. They say is an Satan worshiping, devil cult leader who is insane as hell. But in reality, he’s a sweet boy who sits there and ignores it all. It really was a pleasure knowing him, and getting to hear his thoughts on things.
After he told you his life story, all night long you guys giggled and talked about absolutely everything. Chatting about opinions on different subjects, funny stories, and how boring Hawkins is. The both of you never knew how much you guys had in common. Maybe this is the start of a new friendship, or maybe something even more.

Soft!Tangerine taking care of his pregnant s/o?💖
just a lil bullet point list for the weekend! hopefully gonna have some longer fics out next week for y'all💖
massages. you complain about a single ache in your back and tangerine is all 'let me help, love'. massages don't always lead to... ahem, more, but sometimes...👀
gets seriously into cooking. he's not very good at it to start. there's a lot of swearing and things being thrown around in that kitchen. but he wants to make sure you're getting all the nutrients you need, and by the end of the nine months he's basically a fucking gourmet chef
when you get to the third trimester he's very much 'sit down love, i'll go and get it for you' levels of devoted.
like, you stand - "i'll get it for you what do you need?" "tan, i was just going for a piss. i dont actually think you can do that for me" "oh. right."
hands on your belly whenever you're sitting together. sometimes to be protective, sometimes he doesn't even realise he's doing it, rubbing a thumb across your stomach and warming up the metal of his rings on you
getting EXCEPTIONALLY enthusiastic when he feels the baby move
"THERE WAS A FUCKING KICK DID YOU FEEL IT" "yes love, i'm the one carrying it"
(this leads to a lot of talk about how the kid will like football)
when he thinks you're asleep, you hear him talking to the bump. saying how his dad was a fuck-up and he doesn't want to be the same for his kid. he promises he'll do his best for the baby and for you. you have absolutely no doubt he’ll be amazing

Regarding how long it took Trucy to call Phoenix "Papa". I think the better question is how long did it take for her to actually mean it. Same for Phoenix genuinely thinking of Trucy as his daughter and not a little kid he needed to help and take care of
Well, see, that's kind of the trajectory I expected to begin with -- how many years into those 7 was it before she started seeing him as "dad" enough to say it, etc. I didn't expect the game to have an answer to that and had speculated about what that might've been like only for the game to give... a pretty unsatisfactory (imo) canon answer.
But you're right, saying it VS meaning it are still different things. I don't have any specific timeframe in mind but I imagine it happened faster with Phoenix, because I think (and he says as much in canon) he really latched onto Trucy and that relationship post-disbarment, and also Phoenix is a pretty ... emotionally intense dude who needs to be needed. It's easy for me to imagine him focusing all his emotional energy on Trucy and getting super invested very quickly.
Trucy I find it much harder to speculate about because I don't think the game gives us a good sense of her interiority. I got the impression throughout 4 that she was keeping plenty of secrets (another post I've been thinking about: how much did she know in 4-1 because my impression is "everything") and so I feel like I can only guess at what she was thinking. She's unreasonably chipper in that first scene with Phoenix, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt in assuming it's largely for show. Maybe she felt she had to put on a show for Phoenix so he'd keep her around, in which case how long was it before she let that drop for the first time, and how long before she naturally thought of him first for comfort/etc instead of Zak... 🤔 I don't know but I would imagine it took her longer than Phoenix.
In general I wish 4 had given us more of them interacting together and more genuine moments. Phoenix says at the end that he's the only one who knows how she really feels, which I totally believe (again she seems like she's performing, even to Apollo) and I like the idea of them as this tight knit and sort of... secretive little unit, a double act. But we don't get to see it in action much and a lot of the references to him Trucy makes are just played for laughs or to make Apollo even more suspicious of him.
I also think Trucy looking up to/missing/wanting to emulate the Gramaryes is understandable but interesting vs Phoenix knowing they're a toxic murder polycule and wanting to shield her from that without (presumably) wanting to disillusion her. Also fandom lied to me about older Trucy's costume being blue because of Phoenix, it's Thalassa's costume 😭 which made me sad for him ngl... another fic idea among many.
This got really long and mostly off topic sorry lol, I've been rotating Trucy and Phoenix in my head since starting AA4 and, like most things in AA4, there's so much cool stuff to extrapolate on that canon just kinda... suggests without ever diving into. Much to think about

Calling Fic Writers! Story Idea? -Angst-
If this is already something someone has made, ya'll need to link me ASAP cause its been rotting in my brain all week (if not longer) and I very highly doubt I'd ever be able to write it properly LOL. Art? Maybe...
Please excuse my scatterbrained explanation. I'll probably be adding to this as my little angst-loving brain thinks of more details.
-----
So, after x amount of time, Aziraphale returns/escapes to the bookshop from Heaven and being Supreme Archangel....just completely defeated, dazed, exhausted and just about broken/verge of breakdown. I've pictured the scene with or without his wings. Crowley and Muriel are there (or at least Crowley) and are understandably surprised/confused.
He just collapses in a sobbing heap muttering and crying "I'm sorry" "Please" "You/we can't do this" "Why" "I don't want to fall" among other unintelligible words, but doesn't seem to quite be with it enough to attempt to explain whats going on. Maybe he'd gain very slight, brief clarity upon seeing Crowley (who has also been a mess), keeps apologizing, begging for forgiveness (from him? Her? Both? Maybe) until finally passing out.
Of course Crowley steps up and tries to take care of him, and figure out whats going on. Because no matter how mad he might get at Aziraphale, how hurt he was by the end of S2, he'll always return and help his angel, because he loves him. Also I'm positive Crowley already knows Aziraphale didn't make that choice easily, that he hurt the angel as well. Bountiful soft, care-taking Crowley here because I live for it.
Eventually when Azi is a bit more stable, (as he would often rotate between quiet desolate/defeated shell shock, and near hysterical crying in fear and grief) Crowley gets bits and pieces of what happened out of him.
The "Supreme Archangel" position was merely a sort of placeholder/fake title, not an actual promotion. Because why would they want to actually give Aziraphale that kind of power to potentially use against them and their plans? He was dangerous enough
The Metatron (and other angels) lied/manipulated Aziraphale the whole time to get him to do what he/heaven wanted. And to of course separate him and Crowley. Possible eventual threats towards Crowley and others to keep Azi "in line". Book of life?
Plans of course include the second coming as it was mentioned, but I'm sure there are others mixed in. More apocalypse starting schemes etc. Never really give the full details and kept the real plans secret. Jesus only mentioned, never seen (very suspicious). Azi tries to investigate but keeps getting interrupted or thwarted. Kept a very close eye on.
Much gaslighting/mental and emotional abuse and manipulation, slowly wearing Aziraphale down in order to break and better control him. No erasing/changing of memories cause its over done to me.
God is still MIA and no one knows whats going on with Her. The Metatron says he speaks with Her, but lets face it he can't be trusted. Definitely scheming on his own with others, maybe Hell as well?
Aziraphale never falls of course, I couldn't do that to our precious angel. He'd be traumatized enough anyway.
Aziraphale tries to be a good angel so bad it hurts, wants to believe in Heaven and "The Great Plan" but is only ever hurt and betrayed for all his efforts up there.
I WILL MAKE THESE TWO WILL HAVE A PROPER TALK I SWEAR
--------
I just really love hurt/comfort, angst and them taking loving tender care of each other. They would have a happy ending of course. This is how I cope until season 3, don't judge me xD
Also, what I was listening to during this ramble:

20 Questions for Fic Writers
tagged by @steddieas-shegoes like, forever ago and I keep forgetting.
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 42! most are steddie with some criminal minds fics from over ten years ago buried deep.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 252,271
3. What fandoms do you write for? right now, just stranger things! I've been toying around with writing destiel again but if I did, it'd be anonymous. (after my entire portfolio was wiped from livejournal, I'm still in pain about it.)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 1. and if I get burned, at least we were electrified.  2. i made this mess with love.  3. what you feel is what you are (and what you are is beautiful)  4. the answers are all inside of this.  5. Livin' On A Prayer
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? yes! eventually! sometimes, it'll take me awhile because I just get backed up but I read them and smile and kick my feet, and even though it takes me a bit to reply, those comments are what keep me writing. <3
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? happy endings are guaranteed in this house, always. I'll never write an angsty ending-- canon hurts me enough. the most bittersweet ending though would have to be scar-crossed lovers.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? oooo, that's tough because they're all happy endings! but I think over the hills and far away because, by virtue of it being a long fic, the happy ending feels deserved. those two went through it to get to that ending which made it so satisfying to write!
8. Do you get hate on fics? I haven't, no, and I'm very grateful for that. but I'm also like, super liberal with the block function. we cultivate our spaces here, friends!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do, but only in the context of like, what else is happening in the fic. I just can't write pwp lmao, major kudos to everyone else who does it so well! I'm in awe of your talent perpetually.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I wrote a supernatural/charmed crossover au many, many years ago. but recently? kicks cracky supernatural/stranger things crossover au scrivener wip under the couch. nope.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? not in this fandom!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? not that I know of, but that'd be super cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? not yet... but I have some plans. keep an eye out next year. 👀
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? steddie broke something in my brain, but destiel laid the path for it be broken to start with.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? liturgies & devotionals, unfortunately. or at least in its current existence in scrivener? it's a big undertaking but if I can make it less complicated, maybe it stands a chance.
16. What are your writing strengths? not once have I been able to answer this and feel comfortable with it, but I do really enjoy the omniscent third person point of view and have gotten compliments on it. and narrative writing, I like setting the scene and developing introspection.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? there are several but god, fucking dialogue! it's my kryptonite. that, and actually ending a story. context disease is so real.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? the only other language I've ever used is a snippet of Klingon, but I'd also feel comfortable using bits of French because I know a good bit of French. anything else would just feel super inauthentic because idk what the fuck I'm saying.
19. First fandom you wrote for? uh, it was around 2001 and it was for a fandom that I no longer associate with.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? to the surprise of no one: over the hills and far away <333 so much of me is in that fic and it was hugely healing.

fanfic writer questions
Thanks so much for the tag @sideguitars
1- How many works do you have on AO3?
Twenty. A good mix of one-shots and longer fics that I will finish someday...
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
534,441
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Supergirl but I've dabbled with Legends of Tomorrow and have a few unpublished fics for different fandoms that I might share
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Rich Girl With Issues (I swear I'm almost done with the last chapter. The flu kicked my ass but I'm finishing up. My weird Lena becomes a vigilante fic. I still am amazed that people like it as much as they do)
Maybe I'm Too Afraid to Admit It (Kind of cute Kara realizes she has feelings for Lena. I really don't know why this one resonated with so many people)
Somewhere You Can't Follow (My weird (and poorly written) Legends and Supergirl crossover. I would love to go back and actually rewrite large bits of this but the dialogue is on point, at least. Oh and Lena gets to see her mom again so that's a plus)
Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt (I have no memory of this place fic)
Nothing Gold Can Stay (My one and only kidfic but I love it to pieces)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I do and I don't. I'm a lot more offline than I was when I first started writing and if too much time passes, I feel weird about responding since I feel like I'm bothering people but I am trying to be better about it. Because I really do cherish each one
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably nothing I've posted yet would count but I do have one that I plan to post soon-ish that's so angsty I took a year to decide whether or not to share it.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think all of my one-shots have pretty standard happy endings. I think I'll say that either Rich Girl or Nothing Gold Can Stay will have the happiest endings (in my opinion) Wait (a little longer) and see
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I'll get the occasional weird comment. Nothing out of the ordinary. I did get a really rude bookmark once that kind of made me laugh. They hated the story yet still chose to bookmark it which is a choice.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I dabble in it. There's a snippet floating around somewhere on tumblr that I'm too lazy to find. I'll share it once I finish the first chapter. It's a bit out of my wheelhouse but its fun? Very different kind of writing than what I'm used to.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I write a lot of crossovers. I think when I write fic, I want to see something a little strange and unique that I can't find elsewhere. I'm working on a fic now where Kara meets Matt Murdock, that's not an interaction I ever envisioned myself writing.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so? To be fair, I haven't ever cared enough to check. I don't think I'm popular enough to get a fic stolen xD
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have! Someone translated one of my fics into Russian. I was incredibly flattered that they liked it enough to do so.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, and I think it's mostly because I'm quite a selfish writer? I know what and how I want to write so collaboration is quite difficult. Maybe I still have some leftover trauma from all the group projects of my past.
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Supercorp, if that wasn't very, very obvious.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I'll finish them all!
16. What are your writing strengths?
I really don't know and that's not just me being modest. I don't really think I do anything particularly well?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Being succinct. Every ficlet wants to be a multi-chaptered story and every multi-chaptered story wants to be a novel
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I think if implemented well it can be a great addition. If it's merely tacked on, however... I feel it not only doesn't add anything to the story but it makes the reader aware that they're reading a story. A bit of the magic is lost in the clunky execution.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
On AO3 Supercorp but I've dabbled in fandom for years and years. There's ancient Xena fic somewhere in my mother's basement
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Probably has to be Rich Girl but I really am fond of Swear Not by the Moon, as well. I've really enjoyed expanding the scope of Supergirl's world a bit and watching the characters slowly grow over the course of the story
No-pressure tags, of course: I never know who to tag in these until I finish these but if you like @rustingcat @vox-ex @sazernac

Prove It to Me as a title for the ask game!
(send me a made-up fic title and i'll tell you what i would write to go with it)
ohoho okay, so idk if you meant this for One Piece or not, but i'm gonna do it for One Piece
I can absolutely see myself writing a fic for this where Sanji and Usopp are an established couple and Usopp's just had enough of Sanji's blatant flirting with women. He snaps at Sanji and tells him he can't take it anymore and says all sorts of hurtful stuff. Mostly, Usopp's feeling insecure about whether Sanji really loved him or not and thinking that it'd be best to "set Sanji free" and that he's really doing him a favour by breaking up with him; afterall, Usopp was probably just dragging him down, and he only agreed to dating him out of pity or something hahaha.
Sanji doesn't know any of that, he just knows he fucked up Massively and has no clue how to fix it. He is desperately asking Usopp what he can do to apologize and begging Usopp to take him back.
Usopp could've easily just asked him not to flirt with women anymore, but instead he ends up asking Sanji to prove that he really loves Usopp and isn't just keeping him around as a convenient fuck buddy.
Most of the fic would probably end up being Sanji trying and messing up over and over with these big declarations of love and Usopp being on a range between unimpressed and hopelessly in love with each attempt.
Maybe it takes a "pep talk" from Zoro telling him to stop with the flowery shit and just be direct so that Usopp has no room for doubt. Maybe it takes Robin or Nami taking with him. Idk
Much cursing and fighting later, Sanji takes the advice to be direct and struggles through a quiet, intimate confession of his feelings to Usopp, how much he loves and cherishes him, how each day is better knowing that he can wake up and be himself with the man he loves.
He starts and stops so many times and at one point rambles so long Usopp is worried he'd run out of air. And when he's finally done, Usopp just kinda stares at him silently and Sanji's getting more and more nervous the longer it goes for. And he starts to think this whole thing was a mistake and he starts to apologize before Usopp just. Bursts into tears.
Usopp is so damn relieved that Sanji did in fact actually love him and Usopp wasn't just dragging him down. And him crying gets Sanji crying and the two of them end up huddled together on the floor, blubbering apologies, promises to do better, and talking through whatever problems they have in the future. something along those lines
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading that as much as I enjoyed writing it!

I've only written Stranger Things so far.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Yes! I try to at least reply with something so people know I saw their comment and appreciate it.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm a happy ending girlie, honestly. (I also have a lot of WIPs so they don't have an ending yet.)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
As far as actually finished fics goes, probably Steve Harrington Are you kidding me.

No I haven't but I am in awe of people who can do that. That seems so difficult to me.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I think Steddie is always going to be top dog for me, honestly. I've read fics for such a long time but Steddie is the first that got to me enough that I actually started creating things for it as well. And the brainrot is still going strong.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I honestly plan on finishing all my abandoned WIPs at this time!! I guess if I had to pick it would probably be Coin just because it's the one I've struggled the most with. But I'm hoping to come back to it still!
16. What are your writing strengths?
Oh man. That's a tough one. I think...character voice. I think I do a pretty good job of grasping a character and sticking as closely to what feels most like them at least, in my mind.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Honestly I think just my own confidence and need for external validation. I wish I could just write for myself and enjoy it regardless of how well something does. I also just really struggle with writing in longer bits. I tend to write in little snippets and pieces ad it takes so long to get anywhere that way.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I don't think I would ever try. I don't speak any other language and trying to master the nuance of speaking in one while relying on like...google translate just doesn't sound like it would go well.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Stranger Things! Steddie was my first dive into writing fanfic at all.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
I am so incredibly proud of And You May Find Yourself. I stepped outside my comfort zone a lot for this fic all the way from the themes to just actually reaching out and being more a part of the Steddie community. I've made some great friends through the process and have signed up to be a part of way more than I originally planned on when I decided to so the Steddie Big Bang. I still have two chapters to write for this one and although I'm really looking forward to it finally being done I'll absolutely miss the version of these characters I created for this go around. I hope people love them as much as I do.

Weekend WIP Game
holy guacamole, so many of you tagged me. i appreciate you all so much @affectionatelyrs @@read-and-write- @happiness-of-the-pursuit @hgejfmw-hgejhsf @daisymae-12
Rules: List your WIPs (if you only write one fic at a time, feel free to include future WIPs/ideas!) then answer the following questions. Then, tag as many people as you have WIPs (or more)
WIP List- this has my little brain blasts, ones with actual words, and ones still living in the realm of brainstorming
it always leads to you (in my home town) -- childhood friends au/ 'tis the damn season au
don't you call him baby-- second chance romance/kensington divergence au
tell me anything you like (except for goodbye)-- assassination attempt au
5+1 alcholic alex fic
Threesgiving-- featuring dom!alex, needy henry, and pez as a guest star
college au/stoner alex oneshot
pet play oneshot-- featuring kitten!henry
local bdsm dungeon meet cute fic
aftercare oneshot
greek mythology au-- featuring alex as persephone, henry as hades, and david as cerberus
2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?
'tis the damn season au! there are so many vignettes i'm really excited about for this fic that i've already started penning out. it also has a fairly hefty outline
3. Which WIP do you expect will end up being the longest?
don't you call him baby. this one definitely has the biggest character arcs, and a timeline that needs to span a decent number of years.
4. Which WIP is your favorite to write/ the most enjoyable to write? Why?
i'm really excited to write the dungeon meet-cute. i have a sneaking suspicion this will end up being a series of oneshots. i'm just like, so in love with firstprince being involved in the community and caring about community etiquette and watching them learn. also, i'm so exciting for witty banter laced within their first negotiations with each other.
5. Which WIP do you find most intimidating to write? Why?
the assassination attempt au. this one is going to be HEAVY, chickens. there's a lot of emotional turmoil. it's also a bit of a character study with henry, while i typically tend to write from alex's pov. also slightly concerned about backing myself into a corner with medical inaccuracies
6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about? Why?
don't you call him baby. it has a long timeline of events that i have to construct and stay true to. it also features henry absolutely decimating alex's heart. so i'm worried about being able to pull that off while still keeping the readers rooting for him to end up with alex.
7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?
probably anything longer than a oneshot or a 5+1. i'm not super familiar with working on longer pieces and want to make sure they won't be coming across as boring or poor quality.
8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?
greek mythology au, which breaks my heart. i love the concept, but don't know i'll ever have enough brain hatching to let it come to fruition
9. Which WIP has your favorite OC? Tell us about them
don't you call him baby will feature alex having a boyfriend named Noah for a portion of the story! Noah is meant to be someone we know isn't going to end up with alex. but we still genuinely like him. he's kind, he's supportive, he cares deeply about alex. he's honestly a bit of a golden retriever.
10. Which WIP is the sexiest?
Threesgiving baby!
11. Which WIP is the angstiest?
assassination attempt au. there's a lot of hurt and emotional turmoil from a lot of our favorite characters. we see June, Zahra, Ellen, Oscar, and Henry really struggling. and there won't be much comfort.
my goal for this fic is for it to be a bit of a gut-wrenching read, a go to 'i need to read something to make me cry' fic. but edged with a hint of hope
12. Which WIP has the best characterization (in your humble opinion)?
i hope it'll be either the assassination attempt au, or the 5+1 alcoholic alex fic. both depend pretty intensely on introspection and living in a character's head
13. Which WIP has the best setting (in your humble opinion)?
dungeon meet-cute. gotta love a local dungeon as the staging for a fic
14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?
i'd say probably don't you call him baby. i've worked pretty hard to try to nail down a rough timeline for it, which has seemed like a lot more work than just sitting and hammering out writing scenes for me
15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for?
'tis the damn season au. i have so many cute vignettes for it. i'm gonna hate myself if it doesn't string together well
16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?
not so far! but i do daydream about them a lot. i'll brainstorm vignettes for wips and let them play in my head as a little movie during mundane life things
17. Do any of your WIPs have any particular complexities that your other fics don't?
the assassination attempt au barely has alex in it. for the vast VAST majority of the fic, alex will be in surgery or still unconscious recovery. it depends SO heavily on the other characters. that fic also demands a hospital setting, and medical information that i've got to do some deeper research for
18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humor?
funny you ask, i'm actually atrocious at writing humor and try to avoid it like the plague. but i'm hoping the aftercare oneshot has a special sense of levity and sweetness. and the dungeon meet-cute is going to aim for some funny banter
19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?
the assassination attempt au dives into a lot of characters! it is intimidating haha. more than anything i'm just nervous about writing any of the characters that i love so much in a way that doesn't feel authentic
20. Tell us something we don't know about one or more of your WIPs
don't you call him baby will showcase alex deciding to get sober early into the fic, and will include david playing matchmaker!
it always leads to you (in my hometown) reunites henry and alex through pez and a dairy aisle. henry also has a tattoo in it.
__
honestly, i'm a bit late to the game and have no idea who hasn't already done this, but if you haven't consider this an open tag to do so!!

The things I would do to see a Leo-Draxum text conversation. Leo would either be so meticulous in what he said in fear that if he upset Draxum that Draxum would hurt Donnie, or Leo would go full shithead teenager on him. Which do you think/what do I have to do to get a oneshot of this??
So if we're playing Leo straight, (lmao) it would be neither. Leo's strengths lie in perception, manipulation, and strategy. None of which Draxum is really aware of, since he doesn't pay much attention to Leo. So to his perspective, it would seem like Leo is just being a little shit. Leo would be needling him, constantly ramping up the insults, and beating around the bush in an attempt to keep Draxum on the line longer.
All the while Leo would be carefully crafting his conversation to collect information. He'd start doing it to figure out Donnie's condition, both in terms of his illness and the whole situation in general, but listening to him ramble and the tone of his voice, Leo would come to realize that Draxum is scared. I doubt he'd ever think that Draxum is capable of loving Donnie, but he'd acknowledge that Draxum legitimately cares about him. And oh boy, he'd use that. Both to insult Draxum further, as he knows now that he wouldn't take it out on Donnie, but to try and weasel his way in and manipulate Draxum further.
But realistically, Donnie's absence being such a stressor for Leo that he's literally not operating normally is an ongoing theme in this fic. Mostly just to cover up my own shortcomings as a writer-I'm not funny or clever enough to write Leo at full strength, so he had to get nerfed. But the fear and his lack of knowledge of the situation is making him behave in ways that Leo is not used to or really suited for. So most likely, Leo would be too terrified to annoy Draxum, especially when Donnie was so vulnerable, and he'd offer up whatever medical information Draxum wanted for fear that Draxum would decide that this was too much work and just leave Donnie to die.
(days later, Draxum would just send a very cryptic 'thank you' over text and then immediately block Leo's number)
MY DUDES I am supposed to be writing ahead! Stuff that's actually going into the story! 'bites my blanket' I MIGHT write it. I really shouldn't, my ideas involve some...themes that are going to come into play at the end of this arc. Maybe I'll release a oneshot after the finale. In the meantime, people are more than welcome to write or draw it themselves!

Tagged by the lovely @aloveforjaneausten :)
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 103. (mind you, some of these are crossposted on ff.net, but many of my earlier fics were only ever published there, so I'd say that actual number of fics I've ever written is closer to 200.)
2. What's your total A03 words count? 742.871
3. What fandoms do you write for? Currently? Pretty much only SaB (I usually only write for one fandom at a time). Over the course of my fic career? I've written for maybe about a dozen, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avatar: the Last Airbender being maybe the most prominent ones.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Terrible, Beautiful, Unsaid Things (2258), Through Wide, Grey Eyes (1381), The First Star in the Black Velvet Night (1182), A Little Star in the Night (1103), and The Unabridged and Annotated Diary of Mrs. Alina Morozova (874).
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? On AO3, rarely - since the system counts your replies as a comment, inflating the numbers, it feels almost like cheating/messing with the stats, so basically I only ever reply if I get a direct question there. But I always respond here, my askbox is open, and I'm semi-present on twitter and blue sky.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Not gonna give actual titles here (I'd have to look them up), but I have used writing as a therapy tool to process losing people close to me. A family friend (almost like an uncle to me) who died suddenly in 2008, and my grandma, after a couple of months long illness, in 2015. Those two stories are, to me, at least, the angstiest things I've ever written.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Depends whom you ask, I think? :D But my fics usually have a happy ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not really. I've recieved hate personally for the couples I ship, and some... puzzling comments over the years. (One I remember clearly for some reason: I wrote a two-parter story about (mostly) Azula post-atla, playing with her fractured mind, going into a tentative improvement. There was an early scene where she basically hallucinated her childhood and saw Zuko as the younger sibling - her unconscious desire to shift the power relations. Then of course I had a reader who felt the need to school me on how I don't know the canon well enough, because Zuko is the older sibling.)
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind? I do, the very vanilla kind (one guy, one chick, nothing too kinky), but in a sensual, kinda poetic way (I hope)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Once (I mean: back in high school) I started writing a Harry Potter/Wicked crossover. Thankfully, it never saw the light of day (it was also written in Hungarian, if I remember well). I think that might have been the only crossover I've ever written.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I've gotten some permission requests for translations over the years, but I've never seen any of the finished products.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? Kinda? I once wrote a one-shot with a steamy-leaning ending, and @abedsmessedupmeta wrote a smutty continuation for it. Does that count?
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? Depends when you ask...
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? BWHAHAHA. All of them (no, I'll finish them, really). Next question, please...
16. What are your writing strengths? I'd like to say emotional descriptions, dialogue, and humor. And apparently smut?
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Writing complex movement (e.g. fight scenes), longer narratives
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? It's a tricky thing, because you have to integrate it into the text seamlessly, in a way that doesn't break the rhythm of the text. A Discovery of Witches does a pretty good job of it, I think. Also, bilingual (poliglot) characters habitually using certain words from their native language, especially if they are well-integrated in fandom (see: Russian terms of endearment for Aleksander) can be a handy stylistic tool.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Harry Potter. I was 12, didn't speak English well enough yet, and it was basically the only fandom with proper fanfic presence in Hungarian. A real gateway drug.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written? I wanna say Terrible, Beautiful, Unsaid Things, because while I honestly think that it turned out really well, it was my big comeback after about 1,5 years of inactivity, and I never dared to hope that it would become such a hit.

11 and 18 for the writer thing!
Thank you so much for sending this in! Took forever to answer it because I am The Worst. And I've gotta put it under the cut because this bitch rambled on like usual, LOL.
11) What work took you the longest to write?
I'm a pretty slow writer in general, but it was probably Voice in the Dark, Part Two. It was a much more staggered writing process than usual - I wrote the first couple sections almost immediately after I posted the first part, then I promptly abandoned it. Then, a couple weeks later, I circled back and finished it. But even if you take out the weeks of no progress, it still took a lot longer than usual just because of how long the damn thing ended up being. Especially with it going in a different direction than I thought it would. To this day, I still wonder what the reception would have been if I'd gone with the original ending where Hook would masturbate to completion over Danhausen's sleeping body, End of Evangelion style 🙂🙂🙂
18) The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year
This is a tough one because generally, I'm a bit of a coward and if I don't think I can write a character decently well, I just won't bother 😬 A lot of the time, I decide on who the POV character is based on ''Well, I don't think I can write very well from this person's perspective soooo...'' So instead, I'm just gonna ramble on about vaguely related stuff?
I think I did struggle a bit with OrangeHook early on? Both of those two are so monosyllabic and I'm a very dialogue-heavy kind of writer so that was tough to get ahold of. I don't think I'd be able to write OrangeHook from Hook's perspective tbh. It's an age thing, LOL. That being said, I do have a Bad Idea for an OrangeHook fic where I might decide to actually challenge myself for once and write it from Hook's perspective? It'll be a lot harder to write the fic that way but I think it would also potentially be more interesting? Although I doubt anyone would read it because the idea is pretty 😬
And maybe this doesn't count because I haven't posted it, but I did start writing my weird Ricky/Christian Sugar Baby AU that absolutely no one asked for and even though he's not the POV character, I had/am having a tough time writing Christian. Mainly because I'm not really a fan of his (he's one of those characters where I tend to enjoy him more in fic form. No idea if this is normal, but I tend to have characters that I like seeing what writers in the fandom will do with them and I'll find that interesting, but whenever I try to actually watch them on the product, it's just like...no thank you!) so it's hard for me to figure out how to actually write him. That one has to be from Ricky's POV; that way I can leave a lot more of Christian's character to the reader's imagination. I say that knowing that maybe two people would read this hypothetical extremely niche rarepair fic 🤣

alright, stats time. numbers! percentages! analysis!
GO ME! i finished my writing challenge last night. though i have done them before, i have never had a 30 day streak--my longest was 11 days, previously.
NANOWRIMO "GOAL": 50k words in a month. lol nope i didn't even plan to do that but that's the perspective i'm putting the post in
MY GOAL: add 30k to IBW.
fail. i added 5.2k to IBW in the end, the equivalent of finishing just one chapter. basically, I completed 17% of my goal. not something I'm happy about but i did inevitably mostly get past a thing that was giving me trouble.
MY SECOND GOAL: add 30k aggregated to any projects
total word count: 21,366. that's techinically a fail but i'm not gonna count it because i reached 70% of my target wordcount AND THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!!! 70 is a passing grade afterall :] if we want to put this in perspective of nano, i basically completed 40% of nano, which is great for a first-ever run (especially since i have never completed a 50k fic so far, let alone in a month. baby steps for me, i just do not write that quickly.)
MY THIRD GOAL: write something every day
SUCCESS! i did do that and i am very proud of it. it was shockingly hard sometimes. during the challenge i was like "i am never doing this again" and now literally less than a day after im like "hm i should do this again next year!" why am i like this? who knows!
So, let's look at other stats.
Number of fics worked on: four. (IBW, grumbot fic mainly, hitchhiker's au, and tumble town gothic)
Fanfic started and completed within the month: do you see no ghosts in me at all? (13,651 words). This means that ~64% of my time was spent on this fanfic, compared to any others (if we go by word count, as i don't remember which days specifically were used on this versus the others)
Average daily wordcount: 712 words. again, to reach the 30k goal i needed roughly 1k on average per day, so this is again about 70% of that. It is worth noting that my average for my last writing challenge in the spring was 548, so I did much better on average this month despite being forced to do it in a much longer streak. that's probably because the 0 wordcount days in the last challenge dragged the average down, so writing every day helped me a lot.
Lowest daily WC: 131
Highest daily WC: 1897
i think both of those were the same fic actually (grumbot fic.) the low wordcounts mostly represented lack of time, as i would stop writing whenever it got so late that i started falling asleep midsentence. however low wordcounts on IBW mostly represent lack of inspiration, except for the day 30, where it represented research.
all in all, i think it was a successful challenge. i'm still in writing mode and was already thinking about what i could do tonight, which is great because like...i am no longer beholden to this challenge but am still wanting to keep going (i'll just likely not force myself to do anything anymore if it's like 11:30pm and i havent done anything. i will just go to bed instead.)
the main lesson here is that i can Do Things when i want to really force myself to do, which is good because i often doubt my own abilities especially in connection with my writing. it's very personal compared to other stuff i do, so i very much love and appreciate everybody's support and kind reviews because i straight up would not be here or doing any of this without you. like i would have just gone back to hide under a rock lol.
i feel like completing these challenges gives me a lot more confidence in myself and my abilities, and gives me momentum to make consistent progress on my works even when things are a little rough. sometimes in writing you just Gotta Do It even if there isnt much inspiration, because it'll unlock the way for other scenes where you DO have inspiration.
now then. if someone can tell me why i was able to fully complete inktober for two years in a row, and pull off two of these writing challenges in one year, but CAN'T stick with actual responsible adult habits--

7, 17, 18, and 33 for the ask meme pretty please? 🍊 🍊 🍊
7. What’s the fic you most want to continue (unfinished or no)?
Definitely, without a doubt, Smoke, my Equalist Asami Irosami fic. It's a massive undertaking that I poured a lot into, and we're so close to the end. I've just got to be in the right headspace to do it, and to have the time and attention to do it properly. Which I haven't had for like six months. But I'm getting excited about it again and hope to get back here soon. Honorable mention to Firestorm, the third fic in my Irosamiverse canon divergence series that I half started and then actually pulled down to re-work. I still think it's got a cool premise, but need to invest in some plotting and make a few hard choices and kill some darlings to keep the narrative tight, which is what was wrong with the first version. George R. R. Martin I am not, and my original vision of writing from a lot of different characters' perspectives and locations wasn't working. But I'll get there.
17. In your opinion, what’s your most overrated fic?
Strictly speaking, probably The Mango Tree. Not because I don't adore this fic. I do. It's sweet and sad and lovely and everyone should read it. But it's also Maiko, and therefore has more kudos and bookmarks than all but my major Irosami multichapter projects that are closer to novels, like AWOL and Smoke. I wrote The Mango Tree in a day or two. Smoke is going on two years. It's a great illustration of the challenges rarepair authors face. If you liked The Mango Tree, maybe you should give some other works a try? You might be surprised.
18. What’s your most underrated fic?
All of them. I guess I was surprised at the reception of Yaoja's Number One Fan. Or maybe just disappointed. There's pretty much universal recognition that for a main character Asami Sato is very underdeveloped in canon. To some that makes her boring, but to me that means she has so much potential! And people clearly want to read about her as she appears in just under half the fics in the Legend of Korra tag. But almost all those fics are Korrasami (like really, nearly all of them), and fics about Asami outside that pairing are rare and low traffic. I'd have hoped there were enough Asami fans in Korrasamiworld who'd be interested in a short, sweet fic about her as a kid that for once didn't center around her mother's death or any ship, but I was wrong. No one seems to love or care for Asami by herself. Low kudos might be the author, but this fic has less than 50 hits. No one is interested. Goes to hug Asami in a corner by myself making self-indulgent pity noises.
33. Is there any particular character whose scenes always wind up being longer/more frequent than you expected? Does the quality hold up?
Okay, there are two ways to answer this: 1. OMFG Iroh. This guy is so much in his head, I'll realize I've written two pages and he hasn't moved. He's still standing there doing dishes, thinking. Any one-shot from Iroh's perspective immediately becomes a multichapter slog. In fact, I went back and looked and in all my 85 works I've only written three one-shots from Iroh's perspective. Because he can't fucking do it. But I love him dearly and I guess he's just going on longer adventures.
2. Asami self-insert. You know that gif with the model walking out from the door all sassy like "heyyyyyy" yeah, that's Asami. I write fics she's not in and she shows up anyway (seriously - she wasn't supposed to be in either The Cabin or Uncle Iroh's Firebending Academy and she just decided she was needed and in she goes). Then she also doesn't listen to directions. I'm writing a fic right now (Tis the Sea Sun for Love) and she's twice wound up adding scenes because she wanted to do something else, like go get a pedicure or shop for a dress for her date. I just... I've given up. Asami is in charge and I'm just here to record it.
Anyway since these are the characters I write the most often now you understand why my fics are so damn long.
Ask me writing stuff

i think, based on your writing - you put so much focus into characters and character dynamics, and so much effort into perfecting how you portray them (you are amazing at character analysis and keeping in charcater) - that, maybe, you think that characters drive a story more than a plot does? which seems a lil obvious, maybe, but ... you just seem more focused on significance of character vs significance of plot.
also, i think you're... not necessarily an optimist, but not a pessimist either? maybe, like, a more positively-tuned realist. because while you cover dark topics and write about dark things, for the most part, you end things moderately happily - or, at least, you end them with the characters better off than they started. that's the trend i've seen with your longer fics and your cr fics, at least, although it was a mix with the maximoff fics (which might be attributed to those most frequently being vignettes)
idk!! hope the analysis points were correct, though. i very much enjoy your writing :)
I do definitely think that the characters drive the plot - though that can be a tad messy.
With the Maximoff fics, a lot of the conflict was a consequence of the setting and outside events; the reason I managed to write and finish The Dead Do Not Bury Themselves is because I was made the city itself the source of conflict and that prompting Wanda and Pietro to make the decisions that made up the plot - there is rarely a singular antagonist, it is more that there are parts of the world that fill that role, with even antagonistic people at times directly a product of the same circumstances fucking over the twins.
That's mostly because for years I disliked creating inter-character conflict - though I've got better at that - and I still much prefer to have the characters themselves drive the plot. Even when there's big dramatic things going on, I like to keep the actual focus on the characters and their emotional upheaval, what they're experiencing and leaning from it all. Sure, there can be a big explosive setpiece - but what does that mean if you don't connect to the characters witnessing it, afraid of it, steeling themselves to face it?
The characters are the heart.
Which I suppose kind of ties into your reading of me as a positively-tuned realist. I've seen shit and I've been through shit and at the end of the day I think it is better to offer help and kindness. I know there's some awful people in the world and I know the shitty mental health that can come out of dealing with it... and I also know, absolutely, without a shadow of doubt, that there is kindness in the world: when I have needed help, more often than not, if I ask, I get at least something. And while the Maximoff fics allowed me to dip my feet into some more tragic writing, Mercer likes to make people people, hopeful and often kind - often helpful. So in my CritRole writing I get to put a lot more of that implicit kindness into the world, and...
Well yeah, I'll write healing arcs. Healing is messy and a lot of fics don't quite grasp that. I want to provide, for people healing, an example of what their path could look like, and to give them hope in it. For people who are around people healing, I want to show them what it can look like to heal, so they have some patience and kindness for that messy process. I want to make that healing process easier, even if only by writing a possible example of what it could be.
I don't believe that darkness prevents light from finding you - or you from finding light, if you choose to seek it. It doesn't mean it's easy - but as long as you live, you can change, your experience of the world can change, and if there is that capacity for change, then there is hope.
This is all a lot of rambling to say that... yeah, I very much do like to have characters as the drivers of plot and will often reframe the narrative plot to have more focus on the character's experiences and emotions as a consequence - and that yeah, just because I know darkness exists in the world doesn't mean I disregard the power of light and warmth and hope. You don't get through the darkness without those things.
Pretty on the nose poppet.
