I’m fascinated by the implications of the bottom layer of Skizz’s pyramid depriving people of their physiological needs. Like how’s he going to deprive them of needs higher up on the pyramid? Break down their friendships? Destroy their self-esteem? Excited to see whatever psychological torture Skizz can come up with.

I could definitely see them having some sort of battle of wits lmao Scar is like "wait this guy isn't falling for it"

I was going to leave some tags about how the movie theater was unlikely because it was a summer movie, and thus would require Cub to find himself in the middle of nowhere Wyoming during the summer (whereas I like to think him visiting Scar was his first trip to the area.) But then I googled it and realized that Raiders of the Lost Ark stayed in theaters all the way until March 1982, the next year! So that option is also very possible lol

curious to know, how did Firewatch!Scar come to meet Cub? Did he meet him on one of his door-to-door salespitch or just casually met him at a park like "yeah, you're my friend now"

This is a great question! Honestly...I don't know? It isn't a piece I've filled in yet, since sometimes I don't necessarily worry about things that happened off-screen unless they need to be referenced in-story.

Timeline wise, they probably met early into Scar's career as a lookout. He has known Cub for years by the time he meets Grian in 1989. In my Alpenglow notes, the Cub-related scene is slated for 1983, and by then he already knows Cub. Maybe they met during some off-season travel, perhaps shortly after Scar's first season? I do kind of like that idea, because Scar meeting a new friend at that period of his life would be something he needed.

Honestly--probably was some coincidental meet-cute type of thing where they ran into each other somehow and just started talking :)

experienced the horrors this weekend (bought a new laptop, spent like 12 cumulative hours agonizing over it first)

#i have banned myself from looking at anything else now other than fun new stickers to put on it #if it comes and i decide i hate it and want to take it back then i will be allowed to look again #for now i am not allowed to keep looking though #my dad also told me this about buying cars #he was like once you have your car STOP looking at other ones or you will just get upset if you see something else #i also do this with like. flights #although sometimes if there is a cheaper fare they might honor it. but also sometimes you are just torturing yourself

on saturday night i was talking with my dad at dinner, and we were talking about the volcano eruption in iceland. (specifically how everyone is overly obsessed with the blue lagoon and they keep opening under unclear safety conditions and have been forced to close and evacuate several times this year.) and how the eruption isn't that dangerous right now except for sulfur dioxide gas that might be present on the peninsula. and my dad was like lol "they should just put a canary in a cage and carry it around, that'll be their gas detection"

and i had to agree normally and act like the topic of canaries and cages was just a normal topic and not something i am haunted with knowledge about for fandom reasons

been kind of obsessed with my spotify daylist titles recently because theyre so funny. it told me i was having an enlightened poetry early wednesday morning. which is always how i feel riding the train, clearly. today it's main character coming of age friday morning and im like ok. i have a performance review with my supervisor i guess

today is my work anniversary so i've been officially working here full-time as a permanent employee (not intern) for two years now! :D

#my actual start-date anniversary is in july though (3 years) because i spent a few months as a part time intern #also watch out folks. i can now claim 2 years full time experience on my resume #i think if u combined my months of part time jobs previous to this you could like. patch together a 3rd year ft equivalent #but really it's only been 2 proper years

Yes, I'm weird, but I can picture Firewatch!Scar (in his first season) going to eat at a diner for the first time in 10 days to eat something else that wasn't MREs and absolutely scarfing down the mediocre eggs and toast served to him with wreckless abandon. (Bonus, he had just talked trash about how runny the scrambled eggs were right before going up to the lookout-)

LMAO this is so real. Definitely within the first month at least. Camping meals always taste sooooo good when you've been hiking all day, but some of that is just the exertion and you being tired and hungry. Day in and day out in a cabin where your main job is to just sit a look? Definitely an adjustment period. I've seen fire lookouts on social media that seem to have actually pretty decent diets but I think they have...easier access to civilization haha.

Have you ever read Smart Ovens for Lonely People? It's a collection of short stories by Elizabeth Tan and idk why but I have a feeling u might like them. I dont want to say too much in case you do decide to pick it up but all the stories take place in a version of Earth basically as the end of the world (due to human action not the sun) gradually gets closer and closer

I haven't but it sounds right up my ally, thank you! I added it to my Goodreads list so that I won't lose it. I will see if I can find it on Libby.
