Tumblr media
the five of you were out on john b's porch passing a blunt around, you were talking absolute utter bullshit about everything and anything, well that soon stopped when you caught a certain look that was shared between john and kie.
a slight awkward cough left you before you stopped speaking, feeling embarrassed, it didn't help that you were newer to the group and didn't have the same bond they all had together.
so pushing yourself off out of the chair you were currently sitting on, faking a smile asking everyone if they wanted anything to drink as you went to walk into the home, hearing no's from everyone you made your way to the kitchen. not feeling a pair of eyes on you as you did so.
your eyes watered, sniffling trying to gather yourself, lightly shaking your hands to distract yourself from crying, blinking away the tears successfully.
starting to walk back to the front door, swallowing the lump in your throat, pushing the door back open announcing some bad, but believable excuse to them before rushing home.
this is so stupid.
you really shouldn't be so sensitive y/n.
Tumblr media
you lay on your back with your eyes closed trying to focus on the soft music playing in the background, but your loud thoughts wouldn't stop eating at you.
well, that of course was until a little tap on your sliding door turned into two taps, this continued to happen. furrowing your brows, looking over to the glass thinking it was just a tree branch.
nope, it was very much little rocks, pushing yourself off of your bed closer to find the cause of the knocking, looking down only to find a cheeky smile on a certain blonde's face looking right back up at you.
"rapunzel, rapunzel let down your hair!" he shouted in a playfully deeper voice, you rolled your eyes before opening it and yelled back.
"you know i have a perfectly good front door, right?" quirking an eyebrow at him and he groaned back at you.
"but this is so much more romantic, no?"
you had to admit that did make you smile, you moved back over to your bed to keep up your 'stoic' act. soon enough a very out-breath jj was leaned against the right side of the railing on your balcony.
"you— ah. that looked a lot— easier from down there." he was now bent over with his hands on his knees quickly regaining his breath as he stood up straight and gave you a look, the sort of look that said i have an idea.
that’s when he started to run for speed towards you, your eyes widened as you realized it was too late to move out of the way when his body collided with yours, ending up with him on top of you, you both groaned as you tried to push him off.
only for him to make his body deadweight against you which made you struggle more, “ugh! get off of me, you’re so heavy.”
“nope i think i’m gonna stay right here, you’re actually super comfy, night night,” he muttered before shutting his eyes, nuzzling his face into your neck. not that you’d mind being in this situation any other time but not now when he’s all sweaty and gross.
you eventually gave up pushing him, accepting your fate underneath him. remembering how super ticklish he is, you wrapped your legs around his waist as your fingers gently dug into his sides making him jolt off of you laughing.
"im sorry-- i-m sorry, ah--." unwrapping your legs, he fell onto the floor, still slightly laughing whilst looking at you, reaching your hand out for him to grab with a smile, "wanna order some pizza?"
that was it for the next so many hours the two of you messed around, having pillow fights waiting for the food to arrive, eating and then you both ended up a tired pile on your bed, jay resting his head on his arms now gazing up at you as you spoke quietly since everyone else in the house had gone to sleep, it was just the two of you awake.
books. you were now rambling about what new book you were reading and the contents in it. telling him your favourite parts so far, barely noticing that you were talking entirely way too much when you stumbled over your words.
not even realizing that you hadn't even been looking at him the whole time, your eyes had been glued to the white of your ceiling whilst using your hands to slightly gesture what you were talking about.
he was awfully quiet beside you, glancing over for you to be met with a soft jj, how his eyes drooped slowly as he blinked, a gentle smile on his lips. he was listening...to you.
you offered an awkward smile before groaning into the palm of your hand and laughing, "i was doing it again wasn't i? should i stop talking?"
"don't, your voice is very soothing."
with that being said you continued what you were saying previously but now faced him, running your fingers through his hair smoothing the pieces that were falling in front of his face.
chuckling when you heard the sound of his light snores, your hand only stopping its movements when you had to lean over to turn off your lamp, snuggling deeper into your covers as you skimmed over his face in the dimly moonlit room as sleep overcame you.
that's when you discovered your new fondness for the blonde pogue.

We need to talk about the Archangel Michael.
No, seriously we NEED to talk about Michael because I think she's going to be way more important than we currently think.
(quick side note: I will be jumping between pronouns for everyone involved because I go by vibes and also bc I'm trans and I like doing it. Hopefully it won't be too confusing, but I'll try to make it clear who I am talking about.)
So! Welcome back to Alex's unhinged meta corner. In accordance with the usual essay rules, let's begin with my hypothesis before we go down a long, probably very unhinged spiral.
I completely underestimated how thorough I was going to be, so to not overwhelm everyone with a miles long post, I will be dividing this meta into parts and will post them as I finish them.
A lot of small details have been fluttering around my mind over the last few weeks, and I think I am finally starting to put all the pieces together—and there are a LOT.
Part 1: Season One and Michael's Rank
We know them as one of the three (four—but that's another post) Archangels next to Gabriel and Uriel. While Gabriel's title was that of the Supreme Archangel, Michael's is explicitly stated in episode one of season two as 'duty officer', which, broadly speaking, makes them the Watcher, the one in charge in the case of Gabriel's absence for whatever reason, taking command where he can't; usually that probably meant him simply being busy and not him being unemployed and naked.
Their position is further signified by their ring, which resembles the Ophanim, the many-eyed angel wheels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are the one to keep a literal eye on things—they find pictures of Aziraphale and Crowley in S1 in the Observation Files, they watch over the heavenly hosts, they oversee plans, everything.
Michael even takes it a step further and (presumably created) the grapevine with hell, having direct contact to higher ranking demons such as Ligur, most likely also Dagon, and Beelzebub.
This is where we get to my theory: Michael is actively working with demons against both heaven and hell. It doesn't mean that they care about preserving earth, though they might later on, but that whatever plans heaven currently has are to be stopped.
I'm going to take this one step further and say that Michael also knew about Gabriel and Beelzebub, and helped him escape.
Now to the fun part: the evidence!
In season one, they are interested in stopping Crowley and Aziraphale from preventing the apocalypse, but that does not mean that they agree with the plans heaven has for said event—only that they need it to happen so their own agenda can stay on track. She has information she technically shouldn't, like, well, literally all the details about how, when, and what is going to go down
This is due to heaven and hell's general cooperation, which is its own post, but all of that runs through them.
Tumblr media
That 'apparently' is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, it's the basic and plausible deniability that's required for them to not be in trouble. She is also in charge of ORGANIZING the troops, fulfilling her role as a navigator.
Tumblr media
On top of that, the way she talks to Ligur highly mirrors the way two covert operatives might talk to one another, using phrases like 'our man' and 'working for you'. The mere assumption Michael makes here, that Aziraphale could be a spy, implies that there ARE already spies and angels working for hell.
Tumblr media
Consorting with the enemy is allowed as long as it is done within a very specific framework, so Michael and Ligur are free to do so, while Aziraphale and Crowley are working outside of it, which gives heaven & hell the basis to punish them for it.
I think the phrasing of this sentence is also quite interesting.
Tumblr media
Not "time to come back to heaven" or anything along the lines that takes Aziraphale's ethereal status into account, no, she simply says he needs to 'choose sides'—and who is to say that he needs to choose heaven or that heaven and hell are the only sides one can choose? Additionally, Michael is the one to bring the holy water to hell while they send one of the Erics, and while the trial as a whole holds a certain tension, there does not seem to be any open animosity between him and the dukes of hell.
In short, Michael is working with hell behind the scenes, likely pursuing their own goals, and standing in opposition to heaven.
Moving on to season two, and here it gets REALLY fun.
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5
(hopefully it will just be five. it was supposed to be two. then three. but here we are)

DRAtchet week 2022 Day 6: Indiscreet Photo.
(First Day)||(Day 5)||(Day 7)||(Last Day)
In which Deadlock's and Ratchet's relationship is told in snapshots but maybe they should see who behind the camera.
After all of that fighting done that night, Deadlock managed to keep Ratchet. More than that he finally, finally has Ratchet's permission to enter his home. They actually started to move in together. Even though Ratchet's house has no furnishings or even a bed, this is pure bliss.
So the first thing he moves over to the house is the bed. Not because Deadlock can't handle the floor but because Ratchet is going to have recover for the next few weeks. They found a chop shop that could fix up almost all of the damage from the muggings. Everything except his hands.
All of the technical aspects go over his head, but the jest of it is that the wiring will mimic the exoskeleton. However it will always be five nanoseconds delayed. It wasn't much and to a normal mech the difference wasn't even noticeable, but Ratchet. Ratchet notices instantly, he ran five simple tests and picked up on how much slower his new hand is.
He's grateful, none of the mechanics think he isn't. However, Ratchet asks if they could just allow him to repair his shattered hands. So coming home every night he sees Ratchet sitting down on the bed, trying to navigate fixing it.
Deadlock can really see how much those five nanoseconds matters. How much slower and sloppy his work is. Before he used to be as gentle as snow, but now he can barely hold his hand in the air.
He is proud of Ratchet, the mech might have been ready to give up on them, but he was always determined to healing. It will take a lot of work and practice to get him back in tip top shape, but Deadlock knows that if anyone could rebound it's him.
Last night Ratchet made a big break through. He got two of the fingers to work, they're still unreliable, certainly not ready for any kind of work. However, Deadlock believes this is a good enough reason to celebrate. "Trust me. This place has really good Electric Indium Rocks."
"But what if I don't like Electric treats." Ratchet hooks his new working arm his and rest his head against his chest as they walk down the street. A date, a real and honest date. While the first time at the club was nice, this one is honest.
"You can order something else. I'll just eat what you don't want." Deadlock opens the door to the and leads Ratchet to sit at the table on the back wall. Walking away to set their order was harder than he expected it to be. The Ratchet shaped cold spot makes the distance worse but it isn't long before he goes back.
Sitting to make sure that any bad actors would have to get through him before they could touch Ratchet. "There's an open seat over right there." Ratchet makes a pointed look at the sad looking barstool across from them.
"Yeah?" He laughs it off. No point in letting Ratchet convince him to switch seats. "Well since you said that you don't like Electric so I got some Lithium Ion and Battery Ooze." Placing the bag that the assistant gave him all of the treats scatter on the table.
"That looks like more than those two." Ratchet picks up the round one that is rolling towards the edge of the table. Eating the whole thing in one go, shaking his head from the strong sour taste.
"Maybe you should let me pick them." He shouldn't be laughing, it's not very romantic, but-
"I think you've done enough choosing." Ratchet moves to take the one Deadlock was starting at. Holding it up to his lips, shaking it back and forth, but his hand freezes up, dropping it. He stays still, not one word. Keeping his hand in the same position, shame seeping out of his field.
"Here." Deadlock picks up one of the cooper nuggets and feeds it to him. He can feel his chapped lips, his warmth breath, and soft gaze. "I think you'll like this one better."
That's how they spent the night. Deadlock picking up whatever snack he deemed tasty and feeding it to him. Watching the flickering of emotion as different flavors cross his tongue. The way his thoat works and the ever growing fuel filling him up. It states a more primal instinct and knowing that it was he who fills his lover. Well it's a good thing that he moded his panels to stay lockdown until he turns the code off.
"I shouldn't have eaten so much." Ratchet puts his fist in front of his mouth to keep to fuel in. "I don't think I can drive let alone walk back." Primus he is cute enough to eat.
"I don't know..." Deadlock let's his engine purr. "You can afford to eat more." He rubs Ratchet's plating. "I don't mind carrying you home."
Ratchet gives him that cute little pout. "With your weak ankles, ya right."
"The two of you were very cute. Right Deadlock?" Was the caption on the photo.
---
More time passes and Ratchet has fixed enough of his hand that all fingers are moving. He still has trouble holding things and they start to shake if they stay up for to long. It was a huge improvement, but more than that it gave Ratchet back his confidence. He even had gain that sassy sawy when he walks. The air of authority comes back to full force as he goes back to repairing mechs off the streets.
Tonight, the two of them are heading back to the shop. As Ratchet's has to go through one more exam before they clear him for duty. Bracing himself as the enter the shop, the deep smell of blood never truly goes away. "Well wer here." He bangs on the chains hanging on the wall.
"Cool your thrusters." A saw blades starts spinning, "We'll be ready in a bit." Another spark lights the corner of the room and he swears he can hear someone screaming in pain.
"Have a seat." Ratchet took his hands and drags Deadlock to the seat next to him. "We can make out while we wait."
"Huh?" He turns to face him only to get a sight full of Ratchet's smile, was he teasing him.
"Oh no you don't." The red sports car comes from the other side of the room. His paint is always emasculate, and at first Deadlock didn't trust him to be an actual doctor. "If Breakdown and I can't make out at work than neither can you." He makes his way towards Ratchet, bending down to hold up his hand and running scans. If Deadlock is jealous only Ratchet notices as he just sends him a smug look.
"What's the diagnosis, Knockout?"
"Good." He flips the hand over and starts testing his sensitivity. "In fact you fixed this to almost match the original specs. Practically made a miracle." Deadlock puts his hand on his thighs to express his pride. "Impressive."
"Let me see." Breakdown comes from upstairs and joins the three of them. "Yeah." He takes the hand from Knockout and gives it a stress test. "You may need a bit more time for all of the sensors to work but yeah great work."
"Choppshop." Knockout whistles for the owner to come over. A big mech or rather a group of mini insecticons that form the hulking mech. His two sets of eyes stare deeply into Ratchet's hand as the silicone hairs press against it. "So?"
"He'd save us a lot on supplies, and I ain't got time to reformat alloy."
"What's going on?" Deadlock takes a look at Ratchet. The exchange between him and the rest of the crew is suspicious.
"I ment to tell you." Ratchet moves to run his fingers down his thighs, comforting him. "I was thinking about joining the shop." He looks down keeping gaze away from his. "You know- to help others." It wasn't him asking permission, at least not yo Deadlock. More like he was asking Choppshop to join and is telling him as a formality.
"I get it Ratch." He links their hands together.
"Then let's update the staff picture." Breakdown pulls out a camera hands it over to Deadlock and pushes him out. The rest of the mechs pose themselves around Ratchet. Look at him with a knowing smile as they wait for him to take the photo.
"Say Gasoline."
"This is the place your Ratchet works, correct?" The caption of this group photo reads.
----
Another long, painful shift, Deadlock and the rest of the stunt crew get a half jorn break to refuel and stretch out their legs. Today has been especially tough since two of the main actors switched acts and now they have to start training all over again.
Another dent fender and a twist bumper. He is one of the lucky ones as the guy next to him as a burnt interior filters, with his tire sticking out of his chassis. The other bot in front of him has it worst as he caught the preform in root mode. His axel is twisted and his hip dislocation, he won't be able to transform until that gets fixed.
There's suddenly the crowd starts to whisper, commenting on a new vehicle that is headed this way. In fact it looks a lot like-
"Hey Drift." The mech behind him shoves his shoulder to grab his attention. "You see that bot? The alt mode looks kinda cute no?"
He doesn't get a chance to reply as said vehicle transforms in front of them. To his surprise Ratchet is here and Deadlock realizes that this is the first time he's ever seen his alt mode. It was another shock that he really was not an ambulance. "What are you doin here?"
"I had some extra time." Ratchet then pulls out a crate wrapped up in organic fabric. It was red, with gold hearts, clearly Knockout's but cute. "I figured we could have lunch together." He turns his face away from him, and Primus is he blushing. "To be honest," Ratchet keeps his head away but his eyes come back to look at him. "Breakdown suggested this, and I didn't have anything better."
Maybe it was the heat of the day, or the bruise of his battle scar, but Deadlock can feel his vents kick into high gear. "Yeah." Oh that was the wrong thing as the bot he was talking to face palms. "Here." He takes Ratchet's hands and tries to guide him to sit down on the floor next to him. That was until his bumper starts acting up and tumbles onto the ground hard.
"What happened?" Ratchet drops down to examine the situation. Putting both hands on eithet side of his shoulder to turn him over. The light of the sun makes a ring around his head, like straight out of a dream. That is palling in comparison to the genuine concern in his eyes as he waits for a response.
"Just my fender acting up." He manages to sit normally. Ratchet rushes to his side, he wraps himself around him. Deadlock closes his eyes and waits for the gentle touch. So it's a hard wake up when Ratchet digs into where his vehicle front is stored. He yanks out his fender and with his two hands untwists it. "Ouch." He tries to hold back a yell.
"Sorry." Ratchet gives him a hug, rubbing his face on his chest and planting a kiss.
A whistle brakes the moment. "What's a mech got to do to earn something like that?" Deadlock's coworker says as he continues to watch the two of them. When he coughs and the smoke from the wreckage comes out of his mouth, Ratchet is pulling away.
"What's wrong with you?"
"You tell me." The bot stands up and the rubber from the tire sticks out. No other words is said as Ratchet makes his way to the mech and starts to get to work. Unfortunately, more of the crew came to get repairs. It ate into their lunch, and by the time Ratchet was finished the sun went down and most of the circus left.
"I'm sorry Deadlock." Ratchet gives him another hug.
"It's alright. I got a nice view of you at work." A blush creep up on his face and Primus he was so cute. Cute enough to eat, and he would have if he doesn't have work tomorrow.
"Hey you two." The both of them both follow the voice that calls for them. When they both tracked it the a mech with a camera took their picture. "Here." He sent the image forward. "I figured that I should give you something as thanks." He raised his arm and bent it to show it was fixed now.
"Hmph." Ratchet steps away from him. "Just don't do anything reckless. I don't want to come back to fix it."
We wouldn't want the Ring Leader to know that his new medic is swapping paint with the Decepticon's most prominent weapon. Right?
-----
"So... Deadlock." Ratchet stands at the front of the door, ready to head out for work. They haven't had much time together, this had been the only day in the last few months. "I've been giving it a lot of thought." He lifts his head to look at him but his eyes shift elsewhere. "And maybe it's too early for you but. We should move in together."
Those words ring loudly in his head. It shouldn't matter much, the two of them sleep together here on their off days. While yeah, it wasn't often, it was just enough that Ratchet trust him to rest next to him. The idea to have him everyday, to hold him, to be able to watch him fall asleep and wake up to him. "Uhh yeah." He answers so eloquently. "I'll get all my stuff ready to your place by next week."
Ratchet gives him the most beautiful, genuine smile ever. The world turns perfectly and the sun shines ever brighter. "Okay. I'll get the house ready for you. Tomorrow I'll give you the passcode and a key."
The times the photo has no caption. It's just a grainy picture of Ratchet opening the door to their appartment. A letter behind it has today's date, a list of mechs and the bounty amount. It has no signature, no contact information. The photos were a clear sign that they have ways of tracking him down. More important, they were threatening Ratchet and once he gets out of this mess he will deal with them.
"I'll do it." Deadlock looks at the two goons in front of him. He left his blasters at home and they don't hand theirs over. "But then you already knew that." If he wasn't tied up in the chair he was sitting in he would have attacked them.
It was the first sign that his weakness would put Ratchet in danger. The beginning of the end.

6 Ideas for Designing Ideal Mobile-first Websites
Tumblr media
At Authentic Style, we prioritize design in all we do.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that we have a "mobile first" mentality towards designs when we begin working on a website design project given that 63% of Google visitors in 2019 were made via a mobile device.
Yet what does "mobile first" actually mean? Here, we discuss six factors that we take into account when designing for mobile devices first, as well as how these factors enhance user experience.
1. Start with small goals
According to the mobile-first design philosophy, you should start wireframing or designing for the smallest screen before moving on to larger ones when building a website or app.
Basically, it involves giving the appropriate user experience to the appropriate device.
Your website will display better on all larger devices if it functions and looks excellent on a mobile device.
2. Prioritizing content
The fact that the mobile-first strategy also prioritizes content is more significant, though.
Since mobile devices have the most restrictions (screen size, bandwidth, data usage, etc.), designing for them from the beginning pushes you to put content before any inessential frills.
Mobile users occasionally need different content than desktop ones. The question of what the user will value more may usually be used to change the device-specific content (for example, a module that was previously scrollable on mobile may need to be swipe-able).
3. Navigation needs to be simple.
Keep in mind that for mobile users, navigation should be clear, simple, and intuitive.
Should you represent how to access the navigation with a "hamburger" style menu icon (three lines piled on top of each other)? Nowadays, most consumers are aware of this, but not all are, so take into account your target audience and what would perform best for them.
The second piece of advice we have is to use as few dropdowns and submenus as possible. While they can assist simplify a desktop design, mobile users frequently need the quickest path to the data they're looking for.
4. Improve the speed of your website for mobile users.
We'll want to reduce page load times to an absolute minimum and make sure users aren't consuming a significant quantity of data bandwidth when browsing your site by "thinking mobile first."
Reduce the quantity and size of the photos on a page. Maybe use shapes or bolder, more emotive fonts in place of photos to draw visitors in and increase the likelihood that they will stay on the page longer.
5. Examine videos
In the third quarter of 2018, mobile devices accounted for more than 60% of internet video plays. A mobile user's experience and engagement with the site can be greatly improved by video content. Think about using video blogs or a short video on your site to introduce your business.
Avoid stuff like auto-playing video backdrops on the mobile version of your site since most mobile devices require the user to trigger video playback. Use optimal poster pictures instead, and make all videos something that the viewer has to tap their finger to start.
6. A consistent user experience across all platforms
We've discussed designing the "best experience" for each individual platform, but we also need to think about how those experiences should be comparable to one another. The main goal of responsive design is to make sure nothing detracts from the user experience on your site just because it is being seen on a smaller screen.
Try to make sure that every feature is available on all platforms. Although design features might be hidden within browser breakpoints, we should always aim to build from the premise that all content should be accessible on all available screens. Finding a layout and size that are appropriate for the optimum screen width is the key to success.

Top Design Practices For Ecommerce Web Developers
After a few initial seconds, no website can keep its visitors if the design doesn't attract them. If you can't make them stay, your website design and development company needs to change something.
Tumblr media
Not only good web design keeps the visitors from leaving, but it encourages them to browse and shop in case of an e-commerce website.
Ecommerce web developers should make effortless navigation and attractive design their priority. If you care about a lasting first impression, ensure that the web design and development services can multiply your visitors and improve their overall shopping experience.
Ecommerce has become quite competitive. It becomes all the more necessary to give users value not only through your products but give them a reason to place more orders using your website. Responsive web design and development involves giving website visitors a reason to stay engaged on a particular site.
Let's see how a good design can make eCommerce web developers easy for website visitors to work their way to the product checkout seamlessly.
What are the Best Design Practices for Ecommerce Web Developers?
Multifaceted Navigation
Earlier, shoppers had to browse through mega-menus to find their desired product categories and wad through many sub-categories to the product eventually. Even if these are still a part of web design services, navigation can enhance a shopper's journey.
Ecommerce websites should neatly organize product categories under headers. The most relevant categories should be highlighted. The menu should be adaptable to the mobile screen. When viewing the main page, shoppers should feel comfortable and at ease while browsing the categories and sub-categories.
The product page should have customized navigation with various filters and sorting options to take care of shoppers' priorities and specifications. Top website developers suggest designing mobile-friendly websites by adding more space and creating wardrobe-like menus on the side of the screen.
Show the most important details effortlessly
Responsive web design and development show the most important details on the page itself. If the shoppers have to find them, they are likely to give up and try another website.
Everything should be available to the shoppers at the tip of their fingers, from return policy, refund policy, payment and pickup options, shipping charges, extra payments, etc.
Use Space-Saving Designs
Nowadays, custom web design services use space-saving designs that don't compromise the website's readability. A product summary with different sizes of fonts covering the main pitch will do. With all the essential details, having foldable options can be a pretty fun way to present everything without wasting much space.
Time-saving product options selection
When a web design company goes on creating the UI for a product page, it should save time and add comfort and convenience to the selection process. For example, if the product is a women's dress, it should have standard color swatches. The shopper shouldn't have to go through the tedious selection process of many colors.
Each color option should display a product image as soon as the shopper selects a particular color of his choice.
Closing Words-
Website design and development for an eCommerce store may seem like the most easiest task on the planet. But, the reality is quite different from that.
A simple change in the design and functionality can make and break you. Especially if the shopper is impatient and can find the same product or smoother buying process somewhere else.

Tumblr media
SUMMARY ››››› It's become increasingly apparent to Sam and Bucky that you and Joaquin cannot take your eyes off each other. Unfortunately for them, you two have decided to be Professionals and that means keeping your eyes, hands, and lips to yourselves. No matter how difficult it is.
WORD COUNT ››››› 3,716
WARNINGS ››››› sexy times implied
A/N ››››› Ok so these headcanons y'all have been sending me are incredible. I read these two back to back and I just had to write something connecting them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kid had no tact.
Sam wasn't exactly sure why he expected more from the guy who'd led into his theory that Steve was on the moon by referencing vague internet rumors, but even despite that, he'd assumed Joaquin possessed some sense of subtlety.
Instead he was over at the leg press trying and failing not to stare at Y/N as she bent over at the middle to help Bucky push deeper into the stretch.
"You know she could hit you with a harassment claim for staring at her like that."
Joaquin jumped, the weights dropping suddenly with a loud clang. Across the gym, Bucky laughed as Y/N whipped around to face the two men. "Everything ok?" Her voice sounded genuinely concerned, and Sam couldn't help but smirk as Joaquin turned towards her, giving a little wave.
"Foot slipped," he answered, and she nodded, turning back to Bucky quickly.
"Foot slipped," Sam mocked.
"Dude, you scared the shit out of me."
"If you paid half the amount of attention you give to Y/N to your surroundings, you'd have known I'd been standing here for three minutes."
Joaquin gave a defensive scoff. "I wasn't staring at her--I was just--" he stopped, searching for an excuse, and Sam raised his eyebrows.
When it was clear Joaquin couldn't find a convincing enough lie to end the sentence, Sam shook his head. "You know, if you talk to her, she might actually let you take her out."
"I talk to her," Joaquin protested.
Sam shook his head, uncrossing his arms. "No, I mean talk to her. Chat her up. You've gotta have some game, right?"
"I've got game..." His sentence trailed off as he turned to look in her direction, finding her standing over Bucky's feet with her hands on her hips. "But like, we're co-workers, you know? I don't want to make things awkward around the gym or the compound or anything."
"Joaquin," Sam said, laying a hand on his shoulder. "You're already making things awkward."

"He's staring at your ass again."
"And you're trying to get out of stretching again," you quipped, moving Bucky's leg closer to his chest. The super soldier tilted his head as if to acknowledge the legitimacy of your accusation.
"Doesn't change the fact that I think you're about to give him a heart attack."
"I highly doubt he's worried in the slightest about my ass. He's probably zoned out."
"He's definitely focused in...on--"
"On my ass," you finished, shaking your head. You might have given Bucky's claim a little more credence if it weren't for the fact that Joaquin Torres had been anything but the consummate professional towards you. He was friendly and upbeat and welcoming, and one of the few genuinely good guys you'd ever had the pleasure of working with.
You'd never caught him staring once, and it's not like the boy was exactly known for subtlety. Last time Bucky had asked him to cover for him so you couldn't come down and teach him the right way to train his body, he'd told you that Bucky had left the compound to get you a thank you gift for all of your hard work. All while staring at the gym door.
The heavy sound of weights falling against each other echoed throughout the gym, and you spun around to face the sound. Sam hovered over Joaquin's shoulder, the latter no longer working the leg press but instead looking as if he'd just received the scare of his life.
Bucky broke into laughter, and you smacked at his leg.
"Everything ok?" you called out, and Joaquin smiled, giving a sheepish little wave at you. "Foot slipped."
"It's a good thing he wasn't at the bench press. You might have killed him."
Your head snapped back to Bucky who was giving you a shit eating grin.
"You're an asshole."
"I'm right."
"Do you think if I ask nicely Wakanda will take you back?"
"So you know I'm right."
You chanced a glance back at Joaquin who was still talking to Sam before turning back around and placing your hands on your hips. "I'm calling Ayo."
Tumblr media
You were running early.
Not to any event in particular, but just for the general course of your day. It was rare for you to wake up to your first alarm so completely refreshed, and with a fully awake brain, you found it much easier to navigate the morning. You were able to get dressed without crawling back in bed for a few more minutes, and didn't have to battle with sleepy indecision when choosing what you wanted to eat for breakfast.
One thing after another just continued to roll your way, leading you to the gym much earlier than usual.
And that's where the luck stopped.
Or maybe it didn't stop. But it definitely took a turn. Because while you fully expected someone else to be in the gym already, you hadn't expected just one person to be in the gym. And even if you had, you wouldn't have guessed that that one person would be Joaquin. And if, for some reason, you'd had the foresight to sense that, you definitely never would have pictured him to be running on the treadmill shirtless.
You stopped in your tracks, eyes falling to the bouncing dog tags on his chest and then lower to the well defined abs you'd somehow never seen before.
It felt like you'd seen just about every man in this compound shirtless. At some point, they all seemed to strip in the gym or during one of your group training classes you ran for those who weren't field agents. Bucky was shirtless half the time you worked together. It was so normal, you hardly even blinked an eye anymore. Seeing Sam without a shirt was more rare and quite the sight, but it'd never caught your breath quite like seeing Joaquin. Joaquin, who had never so much as worn a tank top in the gym, Joaquin.
And now here he was, chest bare and heaving, feet pounding rhythmically against the treadmill, hair still messy from his pillow and sweat. Your brain couldn't seem to function correctly, offering you images of the sight before you, only closer. Much closer. Hovering inches over your stretched out body as the headboard behind you rammed into the wall with the force of each thrust--
"Hey," Joaquin greeted, noticing you standing off to the side. You blinked, heat rushing to your face as he turned the treadmill down to a more leisurely pace. "Something wrong with my form?"
It was tempting to lie and offer to "help him fix it." Or to be completely honest and tell him you'd never seen a human form as perfect as his.
But neither of those responses were professional or even appropriate, and you needed this job.
You swallowed, shaking your head. "No, I was just wondering why you were wearing those," you said, gesturing to his dog tags, and allowing your eyes to fall to his chest once more. You followed a bead of sweat as it rolled down his body, heading to the waistband of his shorts. Joaquin reached to touch his tags, causing them to jingle together once more and pull your attention up to him.
"It's hard to let them go," he smiled, ruefully, hitting the button so the belt slowed even more. "I'd say it's a habit, putting them on, but at this point they're just like a part of me."
You nodded, wishing you'd taken this conversation anywhere but to the idea of dog tags and what they stood for. It wasn't so much a mood killer but a guilt inducer because instead of you feeling embarrassed and somber, all you wanted to do was grab them and pull him closer to you.
He must have read the conflict on your face because he gave a crooked smile. "Yeah, sorry, it's kinda morbid."
"No," you shook your head, clearing it of the daydream induced fog. "I probably shouldn't have asked."
"No, nah, it's cool," his smile grew into grin, as the belt came to a stop. He leaned his forearms against the console, staring at you as if waiting for you to continue the conversation. Which you were not equipped to do with a smiling and shirtless and sweaty Joaquin Torres right before you.
"Well, thanks for being cool about it," you said with a nod.
My God, something was wrong with you. They were just abs. And sure, maybe the abs belonged to the man who not only found the time to moonlight as a superhero but star in your increasingly dirty dreams of late, but it was just a body party that you'd seen a million times.
But never on Joaquin.
You blamed everything your brain was doing to you on Bucky and all of his stupid comments about Joaquin's supposed fixation on your ass. You wondered what he would say if he could see you now. "And I thought I was half machine. I could practically see your brain short circuiting." or "If that's what you're like when you see him half-naked, how are you ever going to--"
"Yeah, of course," Joaquin said, still smiling, his eyes lifting up over your shoulder as the other door to the gym opened and Sam came in. "Hey," he greeted with a jerk of his chin.
"Hey," Sam said, drawing closer, his eyes on you. You forced a smile on to your own face, and lifted a hand, not trusting anything that was coming out of your mouth.
"You're here early," the other man said, stepping onto the treadmill next to Joaquin's, and putting his water bottle down next to the machine.
Both of them were looking at you now, and it's not like you could handle staying in this gym any longer. "I came down looking for my water bottle. I think I left it here yesterday."
Sam raised his eyebrows glancing around the gym, and Joaquin stepped down off of the machine. "Do you want help looking for it?" he asked, and your whole body seemed to tense up at the idea, your brain transporting you to a future scenario where the two of you wandered around the room, Joaquin next to you or behind you, so close you could feel the heat radiating off of him, all the while searching for a water bottle that was sitting on your dresser.
"No." Your voice came out too high, but you tried to play it off, shaking your head. "I've already interrupted your workout enough. It's either by the weights or not in here."
"Alright," he nodded. "If you need any help looking around the compound though, let me know."
"Thanks," you said. And then you gave another stupid wave and beelined it for the weight racks because you had to get out of here.
You made a show of looking next to each section of weights, even bending over to check underneath of them as if it could have been knocked under somewhere. After you felt an appropriate amount of time had passed to be convincing, you straightened up, empty handed. You turned back to Joaquin and Sam, both watching you rather than continuing their workouts as you might have hoped.
"Not here," you called back with a shrug and then left the gym and headed straight up to your shower.
Tumblr media
He was nothing if not predictable.
The minute Y/N bent over to check behind the weight rack, his eyes were glued to her. Or perhaps more accurately, the bright teal spandex shorts she wore. As she pulled herself back up from searching for her water bottle and turned to them, Joaquin quickly looked to Sam as if the two had been talking the whole time and then "casually" returned to her.
"Not here!" she said, shrugging and then walking out of the gym, her footsteps quick and purposeful as she left through the door Sam had just entered by.
"So, what'd I interrupt?"
Joaquin looked up at Sam as if remembering he was there. "What?"
"You know, when the two of you were sitting by this machine making eyes at each other? Did you actually say anything to her or….?"
Joaquin shook his head. "No, she just came in and, uh, we chatted for a second, and then…" he trailed off, as if not fully remembering any of the past ten, twenty, however many minutes.
"You just chatted," Sam repeated, the disbelief on his face edging into his voice.
"Yeah," Joaquin nodded.
"Anywhere in this chat you finally ask her out?"
"Nah, it didn't feel right."
"It didn't--she was practically taking off the other half of your clothes with her eyes," Sam sputtered, gesturing to Joaquin's shorts.
The kid laughed and shook his head as if Sam didn't know what he was talking about. Joaquin moved to exit the gym as well. "I'll see you later, man," he said, leaving a very exasperated Sam behind.
Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes was a motherfucking liar.
"Let's grab a drink on Friday," he said.
"Consider it me making it up to you for being such a pain in your ass," he said.
"I'll buy," he said.
Mothefucker.
This wasn't just you and your favorite co-worker getting a drink. This was a goddamn set up. Because one hour and three mojitos into the night, Sam and Joaquin walked in the front door.
"I fucking hate you," you said, glaring up at his stupid smug face.
"Well, what a surprise, he grinned, as you shook a finger up at him.
"I told you in confidence I'm a flirty drunk."
He snorted, giving you a look out the side of his eyes. "You told me you were a flirty drunk after you sent me several highly inappropriate drunk text messages about what you wanted to do to a certain Lieutenant, who," the self-satisfied smile was back on Bucky's face. "Is making his way over to us right now."
"When I get home, I swear to God, I'm buying you a ticket to Wakanda."
Bucky quirked an eyebrow. "You're not going to do it now?"
"I didn't bring my credit card because you said you were paying," you huffed.
Before Bucky could respond, Sam and Joaquin were next to the two of you, greeting Bucky with hand slaps and one armed hugs. Sam came around and wrapped an arm around you first before sliding into the seat next to Bucky, and Joaquin came forward, giving you a quick hug.
Which was a first.
More than the feeling of his back underneath your palm, or the way he seemed to emanate warmth, you were done in by how absolutely incredible he smelled. But before you could fully identify whether it was his shampoo, a cologne, or just him, he pulled away and took the only other available seat near the group--the one next to you.
"I see you started without us," Sam said, raising his eyebrows at the assortment of glasses that sat before you. Most of them were Bucky's as he downed beers faster than should have been humanly possible.
"Hard drinker, huh Y/N," Joaquin teased, shooting you a smile.
"Pfft," you dismissed. "Only three are mine."
"Three?" Sam asked, leaning forward to better look at you. "How long have you been here?"
"An hour," you said, completely unnecessarily leaning forward too.
Bucky shrugged. "I got the time wrong."
"Guess we better catch up then," Joaquin said, and you sank back into your chair, narrowing your eyes at him in challenge.
"If you can."
They did.
You were outpaced fairly quickly against the two soldiers and one super soldier. The rum-induced fuzziness around the edges of your brain was compounded by having Joaquin so close to you. At some point he'd pulled his chair a bit closer to yours so that he could better hear the conversation, and you don't remember when it happened, but his arm had also slid around the back of your chair. To your relief neither Bucky nor Sam seemed to acknowledge this. In fact, Bucky was positively quiet and normal all things considered. Everything was going better than you could have expected.
Until the music kicked up.
Sam was the first to be dragged onto the dance floor. He was Captain America. Of course he'd been targeted by the stunning girl in the red dress who'd only had to come up and ask "Does Captain America dance?" to succeed in pulling him off to the dance floor.
Bucky was next. Although he wasn't tugged onto the dance floor by his hand the way Sam was. It was the sight of the person in the tight black number that did him in, luring him away to the dance as if drawn by a magnet.
And then it was you and Joaquin, sitting at the bar. Alone. Together.
You looked up from your drink, pushing the straw down into the ice to stir up the clinking sounds, and he took a swig of his beer before putting the bottle back down on the bar.
"Alright, let's dance," he said, nodding with his head towards the crowd, and you let out a disbelieving snort.
"I don't know how to dance. I mean, I can dance," you attempted to clarify, although you had a feeling words were failing you at the moment. "But that's real dancing, and I can't do that."
"I guess you're lucky you have a really good teacher asking you to dance then," Joaquin grinned, holding out a hand. You looked down at his open palm, hesitating only for a second before you slid your hand into his and jumped down from your chair.
He led you out through the moving bodies expertly, dodging couples who were clearly more into the dancing than each other and couples where the complete opposite was true. The small bit of space he found you was closer to the center of the dance floor than you'd usually feel comfortable with, but when he turned towards you with that look on his face, any of your residual anxiety had vanished.
"Ok, come close," he said, and you took a small step closer to him, causing him to laugh. "Closer." He gestured, and you moved forward some more, Joaquin's hands finding their way to your hips and pulling you even closer. His hands rose, one finding its way to your mid-back, pushing your elbow up to rest on his, as the other took your hand and placed it over shoulder.
"This ok?" he asked, eyebrows raised, and you nodded, trying to keep your attention on him, his instructions and his words, and not the way that you could feel just about every part of him from the way he was angled against you. His right side was flush against your left, and his knee pushed between yours.
"Just follow me," he said, his head bent close to yours. Before you could even respond, he started to move, pulling you along with him through the dance. It was smooth and rolling and you'd never seen a guy able to roll his hips like Joaquin. He seemed to know exactly how to guide you, moving his body to push and pull yours along whenever you hesitated or felt lost, coaxing waves and movements out of you that you didn't know you could do. Each success was met with a small word of praise and a brilliant smile, as his hands shifted to hold you closer, and you wrapped your own hand around his neck to better feel and predict his movements.
It felt as if a fog had rolled in over the dancefloor, obstructing all else from view so it was just you and Joaquin, eyes locked to each other as you moved together, occupying the same space.
The song faded into the next one, and Joaquin stopped. You went to move backwards, to give him space and have him move on as many other of the more skilled dancing couples seemed to do, switching partners amongst each other. But he kept you close to him, hand sliding down to your waist.
"Now you can really dance," he teased, his eyes shining as they stared into yours.
"Only with you." It was supposed to be a self-deprecating joke, but it came out too quiet and earnest. Joaquin licked his lips, and your eyes followed the gesture, flickering between his mouth and his eyes.
You don't remember making the decision. You only remember, moving even further into his arms, and pushing yourself up to reach his lips with your own. He bent down to meet you, pulling you even closer and pressing his hard body into yours. His lips moved as slowly and sensually as his hips had, drawing you in and guiding you through a careful rhythm that promised much, much more.
Tumblr media
Sam sat with Bucky at the bar. Joaquin and Y/N had disappeared somewhere amongst the dance floor, hidden amongst the crowd.
"You think it worked?" Bucky asked, raising an eyebrow at Sam.
"If it didn't we're screwed," Sam shook his head, taking a swig from his drink.
As if on cue, the two emerged from the swaying bodies, hand in hand, sweaty and much happier than they had been when Sam had left them at the bar.
"We're gonna head back to the compound," Joaquin said with practiced casualness.
"Yeah?" Bucky asked, and Sam swore there was mischief literally glinting in his eyes.
"Yeah," Joaquin nodded too fast and too many times. "Yeah, Y/N forgot about something there…"
"What'd you forget?" Bucky asked, turning to Y/N with a wolfish smile.
"Nothing. We're going to have sex," Y/N said, flatly, causing Sam to nearly spit out his drink. "And if you say one more word, I know a pilot who will fly you to Wakanda himself. No ticket needed."
Bucky mimicked zippering his lips into a smug look, and she rolled her eyes before tugging Joaquin out of the bar by his hand. And he followed. Eyes glued to her ass.

𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 || werewolf!Lee Bodecker x reader
summary: being the sherriff’s department’s crime scene photographer means seeing terrible things.  following lee bodecker into the woods means experiencing terrible things.
word count: almost exactly 4k
warnings: smut (noncon but she comes around eventually, if you will), werewolf sex (so...pseudo-bestiality??? but like... not really??), breeding kink, knotting, some a/b/o tropes?, kinda some degradation?,  violence, vague-ish description of gore

Something undeniably wicked was lurking in the woods behind Knockemstiff, Ohio.  That much was obvious.
It wasn’t your first gig as a crime scene photographer, so you knew what to expect; or, you thought you did.  This town was nothing like Toledo, though, in all the worst ways.  You’d left the big city in hopes that you wouldn’t have to see another drive-by shooting, another stockbroker who jumped out of his office, another mafia job left out in the street to serve as an example for would-be testifiers.  You’d left to escape some of the brutality that the urban environment brought.  And to be fair, it wasn’t anything like that, but it wasn’t at all better.
You’d never seen a cut this deep before.  You’d never seen a body nearly turned inside out.
“It’s that damn bear,” the officer nearby announced, his words failing to distract you from your task of photographing the bloodied remains.  “This happened a couple months ago, body just like this turned up.  Thought we shot the damn thing but I guess we got the wrong one.”
“That can’t be right,” you frowned, stepping back and lowering the camera from your face; it looked worse when it wasn’t seen through the viewfinder, it looked more real.  “Bears might maul people, but they don’t… eat them.”
“They do if they get hungry enough,” he sighed.
“Do you really believe that?” you pressed.
“I need to.”
The conversation was still echoing in your head as you drove back to the station, which was still bustling despite the day being just about to end.
You stopped by your desk to grab a folder from your top drawer, "FOR SHERIFF" written in big letters on the front.  Tucking it under your arm, you navigated through the officers and secretaries mulling about to the back hallway of the station, finding the last door on the left and knocking even though it was already halfway open.
“Good evenin’ little lady,” Sheriff Bodecker greeted with a smile when he looked up at you, “got somethin’ for me?”
“Photos from yesterday,” you explained, stepping inside and setting the folder down on his desk.  He opened it and flipped through your shots, nodding slightly.
"Looks good," he praised— gruff and monotone, but praise nonetheless.  "I think it's enough to prove who was driving recklessly and who was just driving."
"Think they'll be all right?" you asked, remembering how one of the car crash survivors looked as they were being wheeled into an ambulance.
He sighed a little, setting the folder down.  "Seems so, last I heard."
"That's good…" you trailed off, toying with the strap of your camera nervously, studying his face as he looked down at some paperwork in front of him.
You were a career woman, working in a male-dominated profession, and you had so much to prove… but god, if you didn't sometimes fantasize about the Sheriff in ways you knew you shouldn't.  In spite of the fact that you were sure he wanted an obedient housewife, and that that was something you could never be, you'd been known to daydream about another life where he wasn't your boss and you weren't so worried about what other people thought and the two of you could be together.
Or, on other occasions, you just wished Knockemstiff was as liberal as Toledo, so you could have a fling with him and not worry about everybody calling you a harlot.
Either way, it could never happen.  You worked with him and he worked with you; he was looking to settle down and you were looking to start your life.  It was a basic incompatibility.  That didn't stop you from letting your gaze linger on his hands, admiring how strong and thick they were.  God, you wish he'd just grab you—
"Anything else I can do for ya?" he asked slowly, that deep voice making the question sound just a bit more dirty than he likely meant it.
"No, that'll be all," you decided, giving him a polite nod before you slipped out of his office.
Sometimes, it felt like the only chance you got to really think during the day was when you were alone in your darkroom.  The photo development equipment here was significantly more primitive than what the Toledo Police Department had been able to provide, but you didn’t mind; if anything, it brought you back to your roots, when you were just a newbie photographer who wanted to make compelling art, take photos that would end up on magazine covers or beside hard-hitting journalism.
That dream had been dashed quite some time ago, but you really did enjoy your job more often than not.  Sure, it came with a lot of gruesome imagery, but at least it was important, and interesting.
You couldn't be sure what time it was— with no windows and no clocks, and with hours always flying by when you were developing film— but the lack of any noise from outside your darkroom made it clear that it was quite late and everyone had left.
It was odd, then, that you did hear a noise from outside the room, like floorboards creaking.  You were ready to blame the old building settling until you heard it again.
“...hello?” you asked hesitantly, the sterile echo of your voice only making you just that much more paranoid.  “Is someone there?  I’m just here developing my film…”
The red lights cast everything in an eerie glow— bright enough to see, but not enough to assuage your fear.
You opened the door to your darkroom slowly, careful not to let too much light in, and peered down the dark, empty halls.  An uneasy feeling awakened in your gut and you swallowed nothing before hesitantly stepping out into the dark.
Another creak from around the corner made you turn, walking towards the noise and considering calling out again but suddenly afraid to speak at all.
A man's form appeared in front of you out of nowhere.
“Oh!” you gasped, but you sighed a bit when you recognized the badge glistening on his chest.  “Sheriff, shit, you scared me…”
“Sorry, little lady,” he breathed, “didn’t know you were still here…”
“Come in, if I leave this door open too long it’ll let light in,” you explained, pointing to where the street lamp outside shined into the window and ushering him past you into the darkroom.
“What’re you still wearin’ that damn camera for?” he asked, pointing to your hip where it was slung at your side from over your shoulder, making you giggle a little as you shut the door behind the both of you.
“Force of habit.  Never know when something worth photographing might take place,” you explained, returning to the tub of ammonium thiosulfate where you were dipping another glossy print.
“If somethin’ worth takin’ a picture of happens while you’re stuck in here, I think you’ll’ve got bigger problems than not having your camera,” he smirked.
“Fair enough,” you scoffed.  “Let’s hope I never need to take pictures like these—” you tilted your head towards the pictures you’d hung to try— “unexpectedly.”  Lee sauntered over to where you’d motioned, pulling one the more developed photos from the clothespins.  “That’s the body we found in the woods,” you informed him, “I’m surprised you weren’t called in— it’s pretty gnarly.”
“Sweet girl like you shouldn’t have to see stuff like this,” he shook his head, sighing somberly.
“I can handle it,” you shrugged, “Believe it or not, I saw worse working mob cases.”
“I’m going with ‘not,’” he answered quickly.
He was right not to believe you, and you weren’t sure what to say now that he’d called your bluff.
“What… what perfume are you wearing?”
The question threw you off but you figured no harm could come from answering honestly.  “I’m, uh, I’m not…”
He stepped closer, his footsteps soft but audible on the carpeted floor as his form settled behind yours.  Your breath caught when his fingers trailed over your arm and he leaned in, pressing his face to the side of your head as he breathed in.  “You smell good,” he stated plainly, deep voice vibrating in your ears and making the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
“Um… thank you…” you answered, hearing your voice waver.
Just when you thought he might make a move (was this already a move?), and just when you thought you might actually reciprocate if he did, he pulled away.  “I should… I’m sorry, I oughta— I have work to get done.”
Before you could even begin to wonder what he was talking about, he had already slipped out of the darkroom and back into the hall.  Oddly enough, you were sure you heard him start running the second the door was shut.  You considered shrugging it off and getting back to work, but the more you thought about it, the more you were worried.  Most of all, you wondered if he had seen something in your photographs that gave him a lead on what killed the poor old man.
That possibility needed to be investigated further.
So, you powered down your equipment and left the darkroom, leaving just in time to see the Sheriff stumble out of the back door of the station, seeming to be limping slightly.
Too curious now to stay away, you followed his path and pushed the door open with your weight, seeing him making a mad dash for the nearby treeline.
“No, Lee, the woods—!” you warned, horrified to imagine that he could meet the same fate as the man in your photographs.  You weren’t dressed well enough for the weather— already the evening breeze blew against your bare legs and made you shiver— but you forged ahead regardless.
The moon light was just enough to illuminate your path at first, but as the clouds moved and the tree cover grew thicker, squinting just didn’t do enough to help you see.  Generally, you weren’t afraid of the dark, but this was different… it was cold, and you were alone; but you didn’t feel quite as alone as you would’ve liked to.  You called out for Lee, only hearing the gentle rustle of the leaves and the occasional snapping of twigs on the ground.
At about the same time you considered turning back and using one of the station phones to call some officers for a search, you heard something.  A whine, maybe, or a whimper.  You weren’t sure what it was; it only just barely sounded human.
“Lee, are you out there?” you called, whipping your head around wildly.
In desperate need of light to navigate your way, you had a moment of insight and reached for the camera slung by your hip.  You relieved yourself of the shoulder strap, pointed the camera ahead, and opened up the flash.
CLICK.  A brief moment of light gave you at least an idea of where you were standing.  It was impossible not to notice how similar it looked to the background of the photos you had just been developing.  You realized, then, that you’d worried so much for Lee’s safety in these woods, but hadn’t considered your own.
Lee, at least, had a gun.  You just had a camera.  Both could shoot, but only one could protect you.
CLICK.  You moved in the direction that you remembered as clear.  It was even harder to see in the dark after the bright light had burned your eyes slightly, and you longed to reach out ahead to feel out your path yet found yourself too terrified of what you might touch.  You could hear the flash charging between shots, you knew well enough by now what it sounded like when the camera was ready to shoot again.
CLICK.  Something white reflected back in the distance, so you moved that way, nearly tripping on a root for your trouble.
The cloud over the moon finally blew away, and just barely— finally— your eyes could make out the shape of Lee, leaned against a tree and breathing deep and fast.  His back was turned to you, but even then you could see he didn’t look well, his back bending and swelling with each panting breath that grew louder as you stepped closer.
“Oh my god, Sheriff?!” you squawked, sprinting closer.  “Are you alright?” you asked loudly, but when you reached out to touch him he spun to look at you, eyes wild and teeth bared.
“Leave,” he growled between panting breaths.
“You… you’re…” you tried to begin, but you were speechless as you tried to imagine what trick of the light could make him look like he was getting taller, like his eyes and face were shifting.
“GO!” he bellowed.
You stumbled back, dropping your camera but too terrified to even hear the bulb shatter as it hit the ground.  Your legs couldn’t move right, your eyes couldn’t look away from what you were seeing, and what you were seeing… you couldn’t describe it, couldn’t understand it.
It didn’t look like what scary stories and picture books told you a werewolf was.  It didn’t look like an animal; it sure as hell didn’t look like a person.  Disturbingly, it still looked a bit like Lee, even though his Sheriff’s uniform was tearing at the seams from his morphing, swelling body.  His cries were broken and twisted as his face seemed to be overtaken by teeth— so many teeth— and dark fur.
Ultimately, one last command to "go" was lost to a howl.
You finally managed to get your brain and body on the same page, turning and scrambling to run away, hearing him chase behind you.
He walked on two legs but ran on four, his snarls coming closer and closer as you made a mad dash for the distant light of the police station.  Cold wind blew past you as you sprinted, coming to a sudden halt as you tripped and landed on the ground.  Leaves crunched under your hands and feet as you tried to stand back up, but he was already above you, tossing you to the ground again and pinning you at your shoulders.
You tried to kick him away once he'd turned you into your back, but it was laughable— pitiful, even.  When he curled his lips back to brandish his glistening fangs, growling deeply, you were too stunned to fight.  But you could beg.
“Lee, please, please don’t eat me,” you sobbed.
“I didn’t turn to feed,” he informed you, and it almost sounded like Lee, aside from the depth and roughness that shook you to your core.  “I turned to mate.”
“No…” you whispered, denial more than rejection— and as you looked down between your body and his where he hovered over you, you choked on your breath at the sight of his cock, erect and reddened and.... for lack of a better word, enormous.
You weren’t excessively familiar with human cocks (not all the rumors about the new girl who moved here from the city were true), but this one seemed different than what you’d seen, most notably in the size but additionally in how you could see it pulsing and throbbing.  His teeth were bared as his claw-laden hands grabbed your legs, lifting and spreading them.  Your stupid dress just fell away and exposed you easily, like it didn’t even care that he was a monster.
Your panties were already damp, like you didn’t even care that he was a monster.
A deep breath in through his snout-like nose made it clear he was picking up your scent.  He grinned and you shuddered.
You’d seen how deep those claw marks could go, so you were surprised when he was delicate enough to tear your clothes off without ripping your skin.  The fear that he could or would, though, kept your heart pumping plenty fast— or maybe that was because of his dark blue eyes scanning your nude form hungrily.
He adjusted your hips as he held you with his… paws, one might call them, pulling you closer and bumping his thick, swollen head against your entrance.
"No, you can't—" you stammered, not sure if you meant morally or physically.  There was no way that would fit in you, right?  There was no way Lee would force himself on you… right?
The noise you made when he pushed into your channel was, ironically, animalistic.  His intrusion stretched you wide and filled you deep, and he wasted no time in setting a brutal pace that slammed his rough, strong thighs against the back of your soft ones.
Fear paralyzed you, made you unwilling and unable to fight back.  He was all claws and teeth— where could you reach to try to push him away, without the extremely high risk of him just biting your weak little hand off?  No, it was better that you just laid there, whimpering and sobbing and trying with all your might not to moan at the feeling of being fucked, hard, in the woods, by a beast.
His tongue on your neck was an odd sensation, another way he forced you to acknowledge that this wasn’t normal— because no human tongue was this long, this thick and hot, nor surrounded by sharp teeth that grazed your jaw and cheek.
“Gonna breed you,” he informed you coldly.  It made you squirm beneath him with renewed vigor, desperate not to be filled with the seed of— well, of anyone, but especially not this thing.  Could it get you pregnant, were you even biologically compatible?  You didn’t want to find out.
“Please, no,” you whimpered.
“If you hate it so much then why is your cunt sucking me in so tight?” he whispered gruffly against your ear before licking it, too, with that cursed tongue.
His question was probably rhetorical, but either way you couldn’t answer it— you had no idea why your body was submitting so easily, why your walls welcomed him so eagerly, why your legs wrapped around his hips to pull him closer.  Further, you had no idea why you were about to come.
Numbness and sensitivity warred across your body, everything feeling tighter and hotter and heavier until you finally snapped and your body shook and convulsed.  His arms reached beneath where your back was arching, and you clutched at his shoulders as your fingers weaved into the fur you found there.
Of course he didn’t stop when you reached your peak, he wouldn’t stop for anything now, so you were forced to take him just as deep and hard as always even as your body went limp and became overwhelmingly sensitive.  It was clear, then, that your pleasure was only collateral damage to him; he was using your body for whatever he wanted, to sate his biological drive to impregnate something.  Like everything else about this, it was disgusting yet annoyingly arousing.
It's hard to say how long you laid there, limply jolting with each of his thrusts, dripping your arousal onto the cold earth beneath you, moaning weakly as you alternated between pleading for mercy and pleading for more.  You watched the clouds blow through the night sky, afraid to look up at his monstrous face, at his pointed ears and shining teeth.  Occasionally you glanced down and noted the way your stomach bulged from the size of him; you couldn't look at that anymore because it would either make you sick or make you come again.
You gurgled and choked as you felt his cock swelling inside you— bigger, wider, until your body was stretched beyond its limits.
"Take my knot," he instructed darkly, "my little bitch."
Disturbingly, you realized he probably wasn't calling you that to insult you: it was literal.  You were his breeding bitch, a womb to carry his litter, and you whined at the way it made your gut sink in shame.
His noises were more animal-like than ever while he came inside you, thick come all but pouring into you as he panted and growled.  Funny thing was, it just didn't stop: he kept coming for so long, giving you so much while the knot kept every drop inside.
You'd never felt so full in your life, of anything, let alone hot come that made you feel warm and sticky and dripping wet.
The knot kept you plugged and showed no signs of going down as he caged your body in, nuzzling into your neck.  He could bite you now and end it all, but you weren't afraid of that since he seemed to have found a better purpose for you.  His heavy breathing made his back rise and curve above you, his clawed hands pinning your wrists beside your head while he started to lick and nibble at your ear, neck, and collarbone.
You didn't even notice that you'd fallen asleep until you awoke in the wee hours of the morning— that time just before sunrise where there's light but no real color in the sky yet— with Lee asleep on top of you.  Regular Lee, that is, naked with no fur whatsoever and a normal cock that had softened inside you.
Okay, maybe "normal" was a strong word considering it was still pretty big and deliciously thick despite not even being hard anymore, but at the very least totally human.
"Lee," you whispered harshly, shaking him to try to wake him up.  "Sheriff."
He stirred, and his cock moved inside you; the subtle stimulation on your sore insides made you moan lowly and involuntarily squeeze your walls around him.  That got his attention, and you heard his breathing change beside your ear before he groaned a little.
"Mornin'," he greeted, his grin audible in his tone as he sat up slightly and looked down at you.  You reached up and brushed your hand over his chest, happy to find a much thinner layer of hair there than last night.  "Of all the times I woke up in this forest with no fuckin' idea what happened the night before… this has got to be my favorite."
"What's the last thing you remember?" you asked.
"I told you to run… I must've caught you, huh…"
You nodded and bit your lip.
"You know I can't stop, when I'm like that… I didn't mean to—"
"It's okay," you sighed, "you didn't— it wasn't you."
"But it's my seed in you," he remembered, his words sending a little tingle up your spine.
He must have felt it, must have seen your eyes widen or heard you gasp a little, because he grinned proudly as he looked down at you.
"Oh, you really love it, huh?  Love bein' mine…"
His hands held your arms tight as he pinned them down, making you whimper a little while he leaned in to suck on your neck.
"Love bein' bred like a bitch, ain't that right?"
You heard the deep, desperate moan before you even realized it had come from your mouth, his chuckle beside your ear making your heart twist.
"Yeah, I can tell… who knew you were so dirty, little lady?  Sweet girl like you shouldn't be gettin' off on being ravaged in the woods by a monster."
"Y-you're not a monster," you protested weakly.
"I eat people," he reminded you, letting go of your hands which you instantly weaved into his hair.
"Well, that's… everybody's got flaws, that's all."
"Yeah?  And what's yours?" he teased.
"I've got a crush on my boss," you answered with a grin, "and I came harder than I ever have in my life being fucked by… what are you?"
"The clinical term is lycanthrope."
"Right," you nodded, "that."
"And what would a pretty girl like you have a crush on me for, hm?"
"I dunno," you smiled coyly, running a finger down his chest, "guess I just thought you were cute…"
"Cute?!" he scoffed incredulously.
"Yeah… and sweet… you know, you go around actin' all tough and stuff, but I think you're really just harmless."
He cut you off with a growl as he lightly bit at your neck, holding your arms down again and tightening his grip on your wrists until you yelped and giggled happily.  "Oh, honey, you have no idea yet just how monstrous I can really be…"

Chapter 12: Pride
This wasn't the first time that Luke was sitting on his stomach but this time he was very conscious of Luke's warmth against his body and something ignited inside him.
Luke was staring at him, damp hair over his face, he was panting, smiling and he had just kicked Din's ass.
Too much.
A couple of hours after he returned to Mandalore with Vizsla and the other mandalorians, Din convoked the council to explain the reasons why he thought that Vizsla was qualified to become a Mandalore councilor.
"He's the most prominent member of my tribe. An excellent warrior, a brilliant negotiator and very respectful of The Way." Din said.
Then the council proceeded to vote in private. The Mand'alor waited in his room. He took his helmet off and went to the fresher, staring at his face's reflection in the mirror, Din could only think about Grogu and the way he looked at his face with those big brown eyes, his little face was a distant memory now, and his heart broke into a thousand pieces.
Shrune asked Din to talk with him in private. They were walking down the corridor together.
"Mand'alor, the council voted, your tribe brother is now the seventh member." He told Din. "It's very wise, to have a man from your tribe as a council member. You're going to need that." He rested a hand on Din's shoulder.
"Why?"
"Because two members voted against it, and I think you know who one of them is." Bo-Katan, Din thought. "We should beware of them, her people." Din didn't say a word. Shrune frowned "Now my Mand'alor, what's next for you?"
"I'm going off planet tomorrow morning, to look for more of our kind and bring them to Mandalore." This is the way.
"You're worthy Mand'alor, we're thankful for your service." Shrune palmed his back and walked away.
Din looked for Paz all over the place, he found him sitting across from Koska in the kitchen, it looked like he was trying to get into her pants, he wasn't obvious, and Koska maybe didn't notice, but Din knew his tricks.
"Vod, you're coming with me tomorrow. Oh, and you're in the council by the way." Din said crossing his arms over his chest plate.
"That's good! But shouldn't I stay on planet then? Since I'm a member of the council." This Vizsla, Din knew he was planning on court Koska into next week.
"Not necessary. I need you out there. This is the way." Din nodded.
"Alright vod, I'm your man." Paz sounded resigned.
Koska stared at Din "Mand'alor, we should spar at least once before you go. If you need me, please let me know."
"I'd like to spar too." Paz told her. She looked at him sideways.
"Vizsla... Chill." Din was leaving the kitchen. "Reeves, it's a good idea, I'm not tired, so, uh, we can do it now."
"I'm on my way, Mand'alor." Koska leaned forward to whisper to Paz "I only spar with a man that holds a darksaber." She smirked walking away and he choked on his own spit.
Din came back to Mandalore after a month. Since Paz spent a whole year hiding and traveling, he knew exactly where to look to find more people of their kind, Din thought that he made an excellent choice by bringing his vod with him. Surprisingly, Paz was also good company. When they were alone in the Mudhorn's cockpit he told him everything about Grogu and him, the force and the Jedi. He didn't tell him that he often dreamed about the handsome Jedi though.
"Wait! You really asked him if he was a Jedi??" Paz was laughing.
"Of course, I needed to know!" Din said under his breath.
"You're hilarious, Djarin. You made me remember that slingshot kid!"
"The slingshot kid?" Din stared at Paz' visor.
"Yeah! He asked you if you were a mandalorian, remember?" Din remembered the kid and the massiff now. "But he was allowed, since he was a kriffing kid!" He bursted into laughter.
By the time they returned to Mandalore, they managed to bring ten mandalorians with them, others were already on the planet, those that they encountered while traveling and could make it on their own ships. Others just came to Mandalore by learning that a new Mand'alor was seeking for them around the galaxy. A third of them were foundlings. Din was so proud.
The last month before his trip to Coruscant, to meet The Senate and The New Republic, Din remained on planet. Helping his people organize the new city, sparring with Koska and learning about the planet history.
There were rumours about secret meetings under the council's nose. Some said that the problem was Din's origin, some said that Bo-Katan was still the right person to be on charge. Some said, some said.
Din prepared himself, this was the first time he was going to represent his people off planet. He was going to Coruscant.
~
Present
That afternoon the training was different now that Din felt a strong connection between Luke and him.
"Hey! You were right, me kicking your ass really fixed you! I'm a good therapist and I didn't even know that!" Luke said breathing fast and heavy.
"Just listen to yourself, little Jedi! You're panting." Din was amused by the way Luke's chest moved.
"What did you call me?" He smiled narrowing his eyes "I'm panting because you're getting better and better, Din."
Take this conversation out of context and it sounds like... Stop it Djarin!
"Bring it on, Skywalker!" And Luke attacked him and while Din was blocking his saber, Luke swept Din's leg with his foot, Din fell on his back, Luke was straddling him now. This wasn't the first time that Luke was sitting on his stomach but this time he was very conscious of Luke's warmth against his body and something ignited inside him.
Luke was staring at him, damp hair over his face, he was panting, smiling and he had just kicked Din's ass.
Too much.
Din touched Luke's cheeks for a split second and then he withdrew his hands from his face, hesitating placing them on Luke's thighs after that, Luke curled his hands gently around Din's forearms, staring into the helmet's visor. Something definitely changed that day.
Suddenly, Din moved from beneath Luke, and they pulled away from each other.
"Uh, ah, we're getting close, to Mandalore I mean." Din said as they both stood up. "I should go to the cockpit."
Luke nodded clearing his throat "Yeah. Yeah. I'm checking on Grogu and then I'll take a shower."
"Great!"
"Great!"
After dinner Din told Grogu stories about bounty hunters and stormtroopers missing all their targets, Grogu was delighted. Luke was smirking the whole time, hiding his smile behind his gloved hand so many times.
"We are arriving at Mandalore in a few hours. Can I ask you to stay with Grogu in the captain's bedroom? I'm gonna be in the cockpit, and I don't want him to sleep alone." Din actually cared for Grogu having a companion that night, but deep down he was preventing himself from touching the little Jedi again, because he wasn't sure if he could stop the next time. The Jedi said yes.
When they landed, some pedestrians stopped by the building entrance when they realized The Mand'alor was home.
Din walked with Grogu in his arms and kriffing Luke Skywalker beside them under incredulous eyes of the people of Mandalore.
"A Jedi!" A mandalorian yelled. And he threw himself in front of Luke. "What are you doing on my planet, you're not welcome here!"
Din tried to stop the man, but Luke dissuaded him, then he looked into the mandalorian's eyes "I'm here as a friend. You don't need to worry."
"Bantha shit, let's see if you and my blaster befriend!" He pointed at Luke's head, Grogu was whimpering and Din was desperate. But it only took a move of Luke's arm and the blaster flew into his hands.
"Leave it." Luke said.
The mandalorian then took a vibroknife out of his boot and closed the distance between Luke and him. The Jedi wave his hand and the man flew from the ground and hit the wall with a sharp blow. He was on his back on the ground, Luke walked towards him "I said, leave it." He repeated.
Grogu was calm now, urging Din to come close to Luke.
Din placed Grogu in Luke's arms, and then he crouched beside the mandalorian to look at his face "I'm your Mand'alor, and this is my friend. Do it again, and you're facing the death penalty." He tilted his helmeted head to a side. "What are you thinking? That you can run away? No. There's no gonna be place in the Galaxy where you could hide from me."
The now bruised man said with a trembling voice "I'm sorry Your Highness. I-I didn't realize he was your friend. But let me tell you, that man doesn't need protection at all."
Din was smirking under his helmet, he already knew that.

synopsis: keeping up with a society that expects you to be perfect is exhausting in every way possible. you're lucky enough to have found someone who relates to navigate this brutal world with.
content warnings: fem! reader, cursing, insults, bullying if you squint, mentions of insecurity, a bit of fighting, mentions of mental health, and sakusa might be ooc but that's just to make the arguments a little more dramatic.
sour masterlist
growing up, you were a perfectionist. although this wasn't necessarily your fault, was it? at the young age of four, your parents discovered that you were, and maybe still are, gifted with talent for music. this led to years of guitar, piano, violin, flute, singing, and even harp lessons. throughout the years, you went through many concerts and hours upon hours of practicing your various instruments. this led you to attend the infamous itachiyama academy in high school and that was only the beginning of your troubles.
as a perfectionist, you dedicate yourself not only to your music, but to your studies as well. sadly, even you can't manage to balance school, music, sleep, and a social life and one of those things have to give due to your busy schedule, so you sacrifice your social life. sometimes you think that this was the wrong move because that just makes high school practically a living hell for you. that is, until about a week ago.
last week, you had a regular morning. you walk through the halls of your school and people do their best to avoid you, to not get in your way. however, that doesn't stop them from gossiping about you. "wow look at l/n. little miss perfect." "i dare you to talk to her!" "she's such an ice cold perfectionist." "i could never be friends with her. she's too serious." "does this bitch even have a life?" you ignore the comments as you make your way to your first class. sometimes you just want to yell at them to stop talking about you. to tell them how much it hurts you and how being such a perfectionist is exhausting. to let them know that their comments only add to how lowly you think of yourself. that you wish that you had even one friend because you feel so alone.
after school, you spend hours in the music room practicing a song you were thinking of performing, something self-written as a way of releasing your emotions. and once you think your practice is sufficient, you curl up against the wall and cry.
once your crying session is done, you get up and walk back to your dorm. on the way back, you see someone in the gym do an insane serve that slams down that just barely makes it in. you hear a groan of frustration followed by the oh so familiar sound of breath getting shaky due to crying. your gaze follows the sound to see the figure on the floor crying and your breath gets caught in your throat when you realize it's not just any player, but one of the top three aces in japan, sakusa kiyoomi.
"sakusa-san?" sakusa looks at you with what looks like a bit of fear but anger replaces his expression before you could confirm your suspicions. "what the fuck are you doing here? this is a private practice." his tone is cold, firm, and piercing. you could feel a chill run down your spine, but you ignore the feeling because other people, especially your parents, have been on the receiving end on your own tone that sounds just as menacing. the only indicator of crying being the red, slightly watery eyes that you can't help but sympathize with. "what are you staring at?" you snap out of your thoughts to respond to him. "i saw you on my way back to my room. i just happened to see you crying and i-"
sakusa sighs again in frustration. "and you what? just shut up and leave me alone!" "i just know what it's like, okay? you really think that you're the only one who's tired of not feeling good enough? the only one who's cried because you just want to get better but you don't see any improvement no matter how much you practice?" your voice is loud and yet on the verge of tears. you glace at sakusa, who now looks angrier but you don't care. "so sue me if i come off as a ice cold bitch who doesn't talk to anyone because i do anything and everything i can to be perfect even if i always fall short and sue me for sympathizing with you."
the room grows quiet, save for the sounds of your shaky breathing as you try your best to calm down before you actually start breaking down in front of him. it takes another few seconds before sakusa stands up and walks up to you. "l/n, right? yeah well you don't know me and you should just get out of my sight. you shouldn't be trying to get someone to stop crying if you're just going to cry yourself. just relax more." relax more? "that's rich coming from you." you're no longer crying and sakusa stops in his tracks.
"you're telling me to relax more when you don't seem to have any chill... ever. and let's not forget that your crying was what brought into the gym in the first place." you take a deep breath to calm yourself. "so... the gym is like your safe space, right?" sakusa doesn't answer, clearly exasperated and silently begging you to leave. "c'mon, sakusa-san! you can tell me!" you smile a little when he opens his mouth to talk, only to be disappointed by his response. "god, you're such an annoying bitch. go find someone else to bother!" you're disappointed but you're also persistent. after all, you are the one that figures out and teaches all the schoolwork you struggle with to yourself. "if it makes you feel better..." you sigh quietly and contemplate whether or not it was a good idea to expose yourself this much to someone you just started talking to. "if it makes you feel better, my room and the music rooms are my safe spaces." "it really doesn't. if anything, it just makes me feel even more pathetic!" a small smirk graces your features as you realize that you got him. "so this is your safe space? i didn't hear a denial!" sakusa rolls his eyes. "would you shut up already" "not until you admit it." he glares at you and you just look him dead in the eye, causing him to break (probably so you would shut up as he thinks you'll do if he admits it). "fine... the gym is my safe space... that you're encroaching on." you back away slightly because he was right. and you know that you would also be pissed as fuck if someone encroached on your safe space, especially while you were crying. "i'm sorry, i just wanted to help. but, maybe we could be each other's safe spaces?"
you mentally sigh in relief as sakusa looks just the slightest bit more comfortable upon hearing that. "i mean, you know what it's like so... i guess i wouldn't be opposed to that." the two of you give each other a small smile as you sit down a good length away from him. "god, it's brutal out here, huh?" sakusa lets out a small laugh and agrees.
"sakusa, are you really gonna go pro like they say you are?" sakusa looks at you for a second and nods. you even notice his eyes lighting up a little. "yeah, that's what i want. it's what i've wanted for as long as i could remember. i wouldn't work so hard for it and get so dirty if it wasn't my dream... what about you? are you going to become a musician?" now it's your turn to pause. you freeze up. it's been so long since someone's asked you what you wanted. "i... honestly? i don't know what i want anymore. it's been so long since i've been asked what i wanted. it's been so long since someone's seen me outside of the "little miss perfect" that everyone else sees... i don't know." you take a moment to recollect your thoughts. "i just hate the thought of disappointing people that i think i've lost myself in the process. i've been pursuing music for so long that it's familiar, it's instinct, and i can't see myself doing anything else because i haven't done anything else..." your voice gets quieter as you speak. this is the first time you've ever gotten a chance to voice out your thoughts to someone and your own revelations shock you.
"yeah, i think i'm getting there too. losing myself to satisfy everyone while trying to stay true to myself. after all, who am i if not exploited?" it takes a minute to digest the words that were so simple and yet so powerful, the six words that could be used to summarize your entire life. "it sucks, doesn't it? like all i did was try my best, and this is the kind of thanks i get? annoyance and isolation? awards and acknowledges of achievement but at what cost? my social life? my mental health? ... my identity?" sakusa looks like he's going to say something but you shoot him a look and his mouth closes to let you continue. "it's literally so fucking stupid! there's literally no actual reward for me anymore, nothing satisfying. it's all worthless - meaningless, even. sometimes i wish i could disappear..."
a small breath is sucked up and you turn to sakusa. "sorry that was heavy. i've just never had someone to talk to about this. at least not properly."
"i get it. i haven't really had a lot of people to talk to either. at least not that honestly. i'm glad we have each other now, because you were right. it is brutal out here and it's good that we can stick together now."
after that, no one really bothered you anymore and it was all thanks to your new friend and confidant.
a/n: sheesh this is one of the longest things i've written. i really hope you like it and i'm really sorry that i suck at endings!!

Word Count: 2000+
Summary: You're on the desolate planet of Dagobah, and things are a far less than exciting. However, someone crashing close to your home changes everything.
Requested on Wattpad.com at StarkWars084
You were whittling away at a stubborn piece of wood when you saw a ship of some sort fall from the sky not far away. You jumped up from the small chair you had made and examined the smoke trail in awe. Nothing exciting ever happened on this disgusting swamp planet and you absolutely had to go to the crash sight.
Smiling to yourself, you climbed down your tree house and headed off in the direction of the crashed, mysterious object. Wading through the thick mud was easy and you started walking a ways off, but stopped suddenly. You reached toward your back only to grasp empty air-- you'd left your weapon at home. You were furious with yourself for forgetting such an important tool. The planet you were on was nowhere shy of dangerous creatures. Looking over at a large stick on the ground, you decided it would have to do. You grasped it tightly and continued on until you found a broken ship submerged in quick sand. If anyone was alive in there, they certainly weren't now. It was a shame too. You were hoping to find someone (You didn't care who) to make life more interesting. You would have settled for anything in fact.
The sand prevented you from investigating closer, but it was just as amazing from where you were. Sure you had seen ships before, but that was a long time ago, before you came here. The ship was swallowed up quickly by the hungry sand and you strained to see the last bit of the tail disappear. You were about to leave when you noticed footprints leading off from where the plain had been. A sound from behind you made you jump, and you spun around with your makeshift weapon in hand. A man with shoulder-length dark hair and clothes caked in sand stood there. His eyes were kind and calm despite the large stick only inches from his face.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you," he stated. Even if it wasn't his intention, he had scared you a great deal, and you found yourself unable to lower the stick. He slowly raised his hands and started pushing the weapon down, and you let him since you couldn't do it yourself.
"Who are you?" You asked him once you had found your voice.
"It's alright, I'm Anakin Skywalker. I'm a Jedi, and I can help you off this planet," he answered. "I could take you as far as Coruscant, if you like."
You bit your tongue and changed your mind. I'm not okay with anything! you decided, I wanted anything but a Jedi. The Jedi were the people you had tried to escape in coming here. You had thought you wanted to be one at one time, but they had rejected you when you had failed their ridiculous trials. Now there was one here, though you had chosen to live on one of the most remote planets you could find. You were angry with him though you knew it was not him alone that had denied you the position.
"Well, I'm very glad you've found a way to get home," you said, trying to maintain a steady voice. "You can do so alone. I wish you luck." With that, you spun around and headed back to the home you had made. Sloshing footsteps and swinging branches told you that he was stumbling right behind.
"Hold on!" He called after you. You were nearly running, and you would've kept going, but this was the only social interaction you would get for who knew how long. You rolled your eyes and slowed so he could catch up. "It's dangerous out here alone," he warned.
You slowly turned around and rolled your eyes. "Is it?" you scoffed and took in a deep breath while you tried to get your thoughts together. "Listen, I do appreciate the offer, but I have no interest in heading back to anywhere the Jedi Council is."
"What do you mean back?" he questioned. "You mean you've been there before?"
You glared at him. "Do the Jedi now find things easy to forget?" you felt yourself shaking and tried desperately to stand completely still. You're not mad at him, you told yourself. You knew you shouldn't be mad at all, but it grew more difficult the more he spoke.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about," Anakin apologized. "But at least let me take you to a safer, more populated planet." You almost laughed now.
Gesturing to land around, you responded, "Even if I wanted to leave, how would we?" Anakin looked around.
"I'd find a way," He insisted. You knew there was really nothing he could do, but you liked his determination.
Still, you weren't sold on the idea of returning. "Well," you started hesitantly. "If you're going to find a way back, you'll need a place to stay." You gestured for him to follow you. He was surprisingly good at navigating through the mud. He knew exactly where to step and where not to. You guessed it was the Force showing him the way. It had for you, too, before you memorized the land. When you got to the lake that was not far from your tree house, you made Anakin scrub off all the sand off his arms and neck.
When you made it back to your home you showed Anakin the way up the tree. "You built this?" He asked you once he was at the top.
You nodded proudly. "It took me a while, but it finally came together." You ran your hand across the railing you had put up. You were rather proud of your work and had a right to be. It was sturdy and homely which was perfect for where you lived. "You could probably stay just outside my kitchen for now. Tomorrow I'll have to make a proper bed for you."
Anakin nodded to show he understood then looked questioningly at you. "If I'm going to stay here, I need to know your name."
You had completely forgotten to introduce yourself! You scolded yourself inwardly. "Y/N," you told him.
He smiled "Thank you for offering your home to me, Y/N" You knew he was just being polite. He wouldn't have the comfort of a bed like the one you had made, and you couldn't make one now. You didn't have the items you would need, and it was getting too dark to gather any.
"I recommend you don't leave the house until dawn," you suggested. "The creatures here love the dark."
"I wont," he assured you. Even though he was a Jedi, you knew you couldn't leave him to figure that out on his own.
You would help him the best you could. You didn't hate him. In fact, you found it hard to dislike him. But it was impossible to ignore his title: Jedi. Just thinking the name made you shudder.  You wished him a good night, and Anakin took his robe off and lay down on one of your pillows. He pulled the robe over himself to stay warm and you went to your moss bed. It was actually a nice, comfortable bed that took you a while to complete. You looked over at Anakin who was still awake, staring up at the sky, and your stomach twisted. He wanted to go home, but you couldn't help him do that. The best you could do was make sure he didn't freeze, starve, or get killed by ravenous animals, so that's what you would do. You would keep him alive until he could get back home.
________________________________________________________________________________
You woke up earlier than usual and dressed quickly. You decided to go hunting in hopes of finding some meat to balance out the root stew you would make. As you slipped the cotton shirt over your head, you realized that you didn't have any extra clothes for Anakin to change into, and his clothes were still covered in mud that had dried over. Surely, it wasn't a comfortable way to live. You walked over to Anakin who was fidgeting and stirring in his sleep. You would have to make him a change of clothes as soon as possible.
You grabbed your spear and knife and climbed down the tree easily. You wanted to do this quickly so you could start working on the other projects Anakin's arrival had made for you. You waited at some rocks near the lake with your knife in hand. Nudj, you knew, were lizard-like creatures that stayed around this area. You had only killed a few before, but they weren't bad. When a brave nudj climbed the rocks you quickly threw your knife and pierced it's skin. It thrashed for a second before falling still. You knew the alarm it let out would warn the others and keep you from getting anymore from there. You retrieved the knife and nudj and headed to a different patch of rocks. You repeated this pattern four more times until you had three of the lizards to take back. You jogged back to the tree and climbed up. Anakin was awake.
"Good morning," you called to him. His face was pale and there were beads of sweat on his forehead. "Are you okay?"
He nodded. "Yes, I'm fine." You looked him over worriedly. Treating disease was not something you could cram into today. Deciding to leave him be, you started preparing a stew from roots herbs and the nudj you caught earlier. Anakin came up to you and watched for a little bit.
You turned to him while the stew cooked. "Have you figured out how you'll be getting back?" you questioned.
He shook his head. "No, I haven't, but I'll find a way," he answered confidently. Surely he knew he wouldn't be able to. The only thing that flew on the planet were the bogwings, and you didn't want to mess with them.
"I'll have to make you a change of clothes," you told him. "I'll do that after we eat." You turned back to the food and stirred it.
"Thank you," Anakin said. You pointed to a small pot you had sitting by.
"If you're going to stay here though," you announced. "You'll have to help and boil some of that water."
He smiled and took the full pot to a small fire you had going.
After you and Anakin had finished eating, you walked over to a bin where you kept thread and fabric. You hadn't expected to use it really so you were happy you found a use for it. You sent Anakin to wash the dishes, but it didn't keep him busy for long. He came to where you were working.
"Tell me about the time you were with the Jedi council," he requested.
You stiffened. Of course, he would be curious, but you didn't want to talk about it. You just wanted him to have a magical solution to leave and do so. You hesitated, trying to play out the conversation in your head.
"When I was younger," you started. "All I wanted to be was a Jedi. I looked up to them and my parents did too." A lump formed in your throat. "They noticed me, finally, and I trained for a long time until I became a Padawan. I wasn't long after that my parents were killed. I couldn't preform as well as they wanted me to. I could only think about them, hoping they would come back. It devastated me, and at times, I even felt resentment--hatred. You know that's not acceptable for Jedi." You inhaled deeply and wiped a tear from your cheek with your fingertips. "They expelled me, and I left. I was angry with the council." You gritted your teeth. "I was angry with Master Yoda."
Anakin looked puzzled. "Master Yoda is very wise," he defended. "I'm sure he had a good reason."
You wiped your face and looked at him reasonably. "Master Yoda has it all wrong," you argued. "There has never once been a Jedi who has kept to the code completely. Our emotions make us human, and those that embrace that are the ones he wants to get rid of. He can't turn us into his mindless, emotionless robots to fight his battles for him."
Anakin was silent. The whole time you were talking your hands were working on the outfit for him.
"But never mind," you attempted a smile. "I finished your outfit." You turned around while Anakin switched his clothes. When he was finished you turned back to see your work. You laughed out loud. The clothes looked absolutely ridiculous. They were baggy and blended into each other making it look like one piece.
"Well, it's a start," he teased, smiling. "At least now I'm not covered in sand from head to toe."
You made a note to yourself to practice your seamstress skills later.
You had just finished the bed for Anakin when the sun sank behind the trees. He slept on it well the first night, but he grew restless from nightmares that not even the most comfortable of beds could fix. You often had to sit by his bed with a cold cloth to calm him. He told you they were of his mother. He had to watch her die over and over again every night and it made him miserable. You did the best you could, but that wasn't much. There were nights when he would wake up suddenly, and you would have to speak quietly and soothingly to him until he could fall asleep again. At first it bothered you, but it troubled you more now.
Anakin had stayed with you for two weeks before a ship landed right next to the lake where you were gathering water one day. You dropped the bucket and ran to the ship. The door opened and a light-haired, bearded man emerged confidently. His eyes were tired but that didn't change how he acted.
"Hello there!" he called to you. "Allow me to introduce myself: I'm Obi-Wan Kenobi. Could you give me a hand with something?" Stunned you nodded and beckoned him forward. "I'm sorry about landing here without permission. I didn't think this planet was populated. I'll leave soon, but I seem to have lost something and I need help finding it," he explained.
"What did you loose?" you asked him, though you could already guess. Obi-Wan looked at you warily.
"His name is Anakin Skywalker."
You froze. When Anakin arrived, the thought that he might have someone looking for him hadn't even occurred to you. He was back at the tree house preparing food for the both of you. You weren't sure if you should get him or not. As if he heard his name called Anakin came running up from behind you.
Obi-Wan perked up. "Anakin!" He called cheerfully. "I'm glad you're alive, Anakin. You had us all worried." Despite the fact that this man had brought Anakin a way home, he didn't look all that happy.
"You shouldn't have come for me, Master." Anakin said. "You could've saved supplies and time going on without me."
"Anakin don't talk like that," Obi-Wan commanded. "You are my friend, and I will not leave you like that."
Obi-Wan looked at you. "I thank you for any help you have given my young apprentice. You will be paid in whatever currency you find acceptable." He turned back to Anakin. "Let's go, Anakin. Master Yoda will be happy to know you're alright."
Your heart sank. Anakin had found a way to leave after all. This is what you wanted. You reminded yourself. Once he's gone, life will be normal again. Boring and normal. You didn't want him to go now, but what could you do? It was Anakin's decision, and he was already following his master. You stood there waiting for the ship to take off, but it never did. In fact the door opened once again and both of them walked out.
"Is everything okay?" You questioned with a small glimmer of hope that the ship might not start. Anakin was looking much happier now and Obi-Wan more upset.
"It appears," Obi-Wan spoke first. "That Anakin will be staying with you," he explained.
You looked at Anakin who was next to you now.
"Are you serious?" you asked quietly, though your heart was beating rapidly.
He looked up at Obi-Wan. "Thank you for your training, Master," he said respectfully. Obi-Wan nodded blankly.
"I don't know what I'll tell the council," he said almost talking to himself.
Anakin smiled. "I'm sure you'll think of something," he assured. Obi-Wan looked up and smiled.
"Yes, well, I'll still have to pay you, Y/N," he said. "I'll go and get whatever supplies you'll need." He looked at Anakin again and laughed. "And good heavens hopefully some proper clothes." You both laughed merrily. You felt wonderful and couldn't stop smiling.
Obi-Wan left and Anakin hugged you tightly.
"You're really staying," you whispered.
He chuckled. "Yes, I am." He pulled away and looked into your eyes. "You were right, Y/N. I shouldn't try to push any emotions aside anymore." He rested his hand on your cheek. "I love you, Y/N." He grabbed your hand. "Let's go home."

Life is but a Dream (Spike Spiegel x Reader) Chapter. 5 - Jet
Tumblr media
As much as Jet drank tonight, he felt pretty straight right now. His only goal was to head home, shower and go to bed. He wasn't really one to party, since he left all of that to Faye and sometimes Spike. He had his moments where he wanted to, but always managed to get hurt while doing it.
Now that Jet realized, he only hurt himself while partying, and never when trying to collect a bounty.
I'm getting old. He thought. He was already cranky, but Jet had always been like that. He didn't like to dwell on the subject of getting old. He hated the idea of someone trying to take care of him, or him getting slower and weaker. And retirement wasn't really in Jet's future. At least for now.
Deciding to squash his thoughts of aging, he decided to focus on dinner. It was definitely nice, since the bounty was big enough for them to get a good supper. But that wasn't what the highlight of his evening was. It was the tension between Spike and their new found friend. Or was it just chemistry?
Jet didn't mind third wheeling at all. Company at dinner time is welcomed, especially if it's someone other than the Bebop crew. (Y/n) was a breath of fresh air, compared to the constant bickering of Spike and Faye, and Radical Ed being himself. The only melllowed one of the bunch was Ein, who Jet just knows is the smartest one on the goddamn ship (even smarter than himself). He's already an intelligent dog, and the only one with their priorities straight.
Either way, it was very noticeable. Jet would like to think that Spike acts like he doesn't care and doesn't notice. But traveling with him long enough, Jet could read Spike like a book. He was very, very interested. There was one thing that Jet was suspicious of about their new companion.
Will Faye be joining us?
He shouldn't read too much into it, maybe Spike told her about Faye. But one couldn't help but wonder. As far as Jet knew, Faye was still wanted. Housing a criminal could ruin Jet and Spike, but Faye's helping hand was her way of convincing Jet to let her stay on the Bebop. Her contribution was welcomed, but everything else, (especially her attitude), was not.
Taken aback by (y/n)'s question, Jet just replied with a simple no. Sweet, simple. Nothing else to it. Paranoia took no time in settling into Jet's mind. What if she was just trying to get close to Spike to get to Faye? Kind of sick to think. Jet hadn't seen Spike in semi-high spirits in so long. And if it was some cruel scheme? We'll get there when we get there. Jet thought.
Yawning, Jet certainly was excited to bother Spike with questions about his late night with (y/n). It was none of his business, and Spike made sure of that. Any talks of relationships had always been shut down, but this one might be different.
Jet made his way to the bridge, powering on the navigation console. As tired as he was, he needed to check and see where their next rendezvous may be, and how long it would take. They may just take a few more days off here, but he would need to ask the rest of the crew if that was okay. Especially Spike.
Jet propped his head up on the table, the light from the navigation console illuminating off of his metal arm. Fiddling with the buttons, he debated on staying up and waiting for Spike to come home, but his drooping eyelids told him otherwise. There was always tomorrow. It felt like eternity until Jet snapped out of his tired, lazy state when he decided to head to bed. Heading towards the door, Jet stretched his arms out, his stomach still full from dinner. Man, he was going to sleep really good tonight. Nothing to worry about at the moment, just rest and relaxation for the next week or so.
Jet scooted underneath the covers, the hum of the Bebop luring him to sleep. Out of nowhere, there was the muffled sound of a loud boom. Jet opened his eyes, sighing. He had a feeling that some obscure part of the Bebop was bound to break down, or better, Faye or Ed broke it.
Throwing back the covers, Jet got out of bed, the cold air hitting him as he left his nest of warmth. As he walked towards the bridge, the sudden urge to just say fuck it and go back to bed was getting stronger by the second. But then he would have to deal with it later, and he might as well get it out of the way.
It wasn't until he reached the top of the stairs to the bridge did he realize that the problem wasn't in the Bebop. It was across the port, in massive flames that could very well take the surrounding ships down with it. A slight panic arose in Jet. A ship explosion was just as unpredictable as a car accident. At any given moment, things could turn from bad to worse.
And worse for Jet was realizing that Spike was still in town.
-
[AN] it's been a while, but here's a point of view from Jet and what he thinks of (y/n). I'm working on the next chapter right now. I feel like I have to get you a little taste for what's to come or to hold you over for a little bit longer. Thank you so much for your patience, and I hope you're ready for this next chapter !

So I Had An MLP AU Idea -
Art by the lovely and talented @really-sleep-deprived-nerd :
Tumblr media
Introducing, The Sides Of Harmony!
Tumblr media
Vivid Star, Element Of Magic
An angsty brooding loner with a mysterious troubled past.
At the beginning of the story, he's an anti social recluse who works at night, from home (he's never been more thankful for astronomy being his special talent)
On the days he is unfortunate enough to be awake when the sun's still out, he spends that time catching up on some light reading or, if he's feeling extra adventurous, practices a new spell or two.
His only true friend at this point, besides Violet His pet fruit bat, is his big brother Tender Star, who has recently been promoted to royal guard so they'll be spending even less time together.
He stumbles upon the tale of nightmare moon by complete accident *cough* destiny *cough* and after informing his brother to keep an eye, he decides he cant just sit around and hope for the best.
So he gets probably the worst idea he's ever had in his life.
He's gonna go to ponyville, where the summer sun celebrations are held this year, and try to warn Princess Celestia himself.
And pray she doesn't send him to the dungeon for his insolence.
Rose Comfort, Element of Generosity
Tumblr media
Ponyville's resident social butterfly and drama queen.
After a childhood full of siblings rivalry, he and his twin decided to live as far apart as possible, without leaving their hometown that they love so much.
Rose found a nice spot in the middle of ponyville to grow his garden and sell flower arrangements, and he revels in the attention and admiration his role gives him.
Everypony loves flowers, and as a provider of flowers, everypony will love him!
Recently, the twins have been able to reconnect and have begun making amends. Its a slow process, but it's been going rather smoothly, all things considered.
Rose has a small flower shop and big bombastic dreams, like his dream of marrying Prince Blueblood and becoming a prince himself.
Rich Comfort, Element Of Kindness
Tumblr media
Infamous town weirdo and ponyville's resident beast expert and critter caretaker.
He grows his own produce for himself and his animal friends, that way he rarely has to leave his house.
When Rich and Rose parted ways as young adults, Rich decided to live right at the edge of the Everfree forest.
At first ot was only so ponies would leave him alone, but one day when his Angel Bunny ran into the forest, he discovered just how much he liked the place.
It was a bit too hostile an environment to safely live there, but he liked going in there every so often to have some adventures, and in the process, he became the only pony in ponyville thats has any experience dealing with scary monsters from the spooky dark forest.
Recently, since they've started making amends, Rich has been inviting Rose along to his Everfree Adventures™, but the latter is understandably hesitant.
Rich is lowkey still jealous of Rose about one thing only, and thats the fact that his brother could have any stallion he wants but he's holding out for "the one", which wouldn't be so bad except he's got it in his head that the one is some handsome prince that he's never met and doesn't even know what he's actually like.
Peppermint, Element Of Loyalty
Tumblr media
Ponyville's sweetheart, the great and loveable Peppermint!
Co runs the local sweet shop with Liquorice, now that their families have merged their candy businesses into one incredibly successful business.
When his aunt Minty told him the family wants, neigh, needs him to move from Manehatten to Ponyville to help run their new shop there, he was rather skeptical, but never one to turn his back on anypony, especially not his family, he agreed to go help.
However, when he got there, he found the place already operating rather smoothly without him, but the candy they were selling?
All sours and bitters, and not one baked good in sight! And it was alphabetized for Pete's sake, ALPHABETIZED!
no, this couldn't stand, he wouldn't allow it. He marched right over to the front desk and requested to meet with the manager, as he was supposed to be doing that anyway.
The Unicorn at the desk raised an eyebrow and simply replied "i am the manager, what seems to be the trouble?"
Liquorice, Element Of Honesty
Tumblr media
Ponyville's most obnoxious know it all, at least according to most ponies who don't know him very well.
(also lowkey resident hot nerd and heartthrob but no one will admit it to his face. Listen this doesn't need explaining but Logan is hot in every au, even in ones where he is a sentient horse).
Before he took on the responsibility of running the ponyville location, Liquorice was settled quite nicely in Fillydelphia, and was looking into ways of making gem based candies for the dragon population of the city.
Truthfully, he was very eager to make a name for himself outside his own family business, to prove that he doesn't need to rely on anyone else because he's good at what he does.
But he also knew that his parents wouldn't have asked him to do this unless it was very important to them, and even though he didn't need their help, that doesn't mean he shouldn't give them his.
So he moved to Ponyville and quickly started working on the shop to make it successful enough so he could leave, knowing its in good hooves and being able to trust that its running exactly like it was when he left it.
Unfortunately, this plan went along well for maybe a week, before somepony came by and demanded to know everything about how the establishment, his establishment, is being run, and that's when both he and Peppermint first discovered they're supposed to be running this store together.
Oh horseapples.
Dapper Jester, Element Of Laughter
Tumblr media
Ponyville's most wanted, in more ways than one.
Growing up in Las Pegasus, Dapper learned how to captivate an audience, amuse a crowd, and cheer up anypony in need of a good laugh.
He made a name for himself in his hometown and became a sensation there, but as much as he loved the attention and glamour, he decided it wasn't a lifestyle he wanted to pursue.
Don't misunderstand him, he loved preforming and would never give it up, but a life of revelry and indulgence from a young age can get pretty old pretty fast.
He soon grew tired of the fame and adoration, he wanted a simpler life where his career as an entertainer would still allow him room to be somepony beyond just a show pony.
His mind made up, Jester moved to Ponyville, and his new life has begun... As a ballon artist.
Not to knock down the profession, its just that balloon artistry is only so sought after and its not the highest paying job.
Luckily he managed to save some of his earnings made in Las Pegasus, and found a lovely cloud house to settle into, as he still feels quite connected to the (literal) high life.
Main Ships:
Prinxiety - Slow Burn
Thomile - Established Relationship
Logicality - what do you call it when they're pretty much a married couple all but officially since the beginning but it isn't canon until the very end of the story? Kinda like that.
Richceit - Even Slower Burn in a very complicated situation, featuring (eventually) divorced single father Filthy Rich trying to raise his daughter and navigate through his feelings, and (eventual) dadceit being amazing and sweet and supportive and awesome.
Dismus - Crazy Chaos Couple™, low key angsty, featuring Discord lord of chaos being out crazied and out topped by Rich, an earth pony who isn't afraid of him and is attracted to his brand of fun and sense of humour, and Rich finding someone who doesn't judge him for his eccentricities without being an animal.
Anyway, thats it. Hope you liked this au and wanna see more!
And As Always,
Stay Tuned...

Tumblr media
I felt someone rubbing my back. Someone, or something was comforting me, telling me I was safe. In the state I was in, I'm surprised I could hear it at all. I could feel the sweat trickling down my face, leaving a wet, slimy trail. I also felt myself calming down, albeit slowly.
It's okay. It's okay. I kept telling myself, desperately wanting to believe it.
I sat up straight and leaned back, still trying to fill my lungs. I could barely get enough air in them without feeling like I was suffocating.
I heard someone say my name.
"Mmhhmm...?" I mumble, my eyes still shut tight.
"Evelyn, can you please open your eyes?" I hear a voice that sounds like Tony ask, sounding... concerned?
Slowly, I comply to my so-called father's wishes.
I opened my eyes to see a sea of faces staring at me, worried expressions on their faces.
...Last time I checked, there weren't this many people in the room. Damn, I'm seeing double again.
I rubbed my eyes and took a deep breath. Finally, my head was clear enough to speak normally. "I'm sorry... overreaction." I try to cover up.
"I would like to apologize for asking you that. I didn't know you would react that badly." Thor explained. It was badly worded, but...I knew what he meant.
"It's okay. It's not your fault- I shouldn't have let my mind wander..." The last words drifted off into a mutter- I wonder if he could hear me.
"Do I have a room?" I ask quietly. I don't want to stay here for much longer.
"Yes, I um. Yeah." Tony still looked a bit freaked out about my panic attack. I hope he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew by taking me in...
"I can take her to her room, Tony." Steve offers.
"Thanks, Steve." He replied, walking away.
Steve gave me a smile. "Follow me."
Dragging my feet, I grab my backpack and duffle bag. Panic attacks are exhausting.
As soon as we leave the room, it's just the two of us. The hubbub in the last room seemed to have vanished from existence, as if nothing had happened at all. Huh, guess they have soundproofing here too.
"Are you okay?" He asked as the elevator started to move.
"Yeah. I'm fine." I say, trying to get some form of a smile to form on my face. I hate it when people worry about me- I feel like I'm just a nuisance to them.
"You know, when I first came out of the ice, I had panic attacks. Everything was really overwhelming." He admitted. "I found the best thing I could do was talk to people about what happened. War is an ugly thing. You see a lot of things you wish you hadn't."
"It sounds like...you had a hard time leaving the past in the past and embracing the future" I say quietly as we navigate the halls, a whisper being all I could muster.
"You're pretty smart for someone so young. But that is something that you should remember too. Your past may determine your future, but it doesn't have to rule it." He explains as we come to my door, his pure blue eyes boring into my hazel ones.
"If you ever need anything at all, and you can't find Tony, don't be afraid to come to me for help." He said softly. "Just ask JARVIS to take you to my apartment. It's on this floor."
I scrunch my eyebrows. Apartment? "Everyone here has half a floor, except for myself and Tony. He has a whole floor to himself. I have almost a whole floor, so that's why Tony figured it would be a good idea to put you here." He explained.
My eyes go wide. "That's right, you get a small apartment just for you." He chuckled.
I smiled to myself. Maybe this won't be so bad.
"Remember what I said." He says, walking away.
I walk into my room, exhausted. I let go of my bags, letting them land wherever. It's so clean in here, I feel a slight twinge of guilt for messing up the neatness of everything with my scruffy baggage. I look at the rustic, brown clock. Thank God it’s not some weird futuristic aesthetic design, I hate that kind of stuff . It's 6:00.
That means it's only 3:00 back home.
Home. Somehow, the word feels foreign in my mouth- like a new shoe that'll take getting used to, or... Something.
I look at my messy bags laying haphazardly on the floor. My other luggage must be downstairs, wherever Mr. Hogan put them. I'm too tired to care about anything right now. I've got so much to do, but I can't resist taking a quick nap- Then I'll unpack and check out the rest of the apartment.
I flop down on the couch. Closing my eyes, I still can't believe how much my life could change so much over the course of a few hours.
-
Tony trodded over to the lounge bar, searching for the drink he had left behind earlier. He chugged down the glass of alchohol. Even though it was now room-temperature, he savored it rushing down his throat. Then, without even thinking, he poured himself a glass of the strongest bottle on the shelf- Devil's Springs Vodka. He collapsed on the couch sipping his strong drink.
-
"No, no! Stop it!" I scream at my mother.
She had just returned from wherever it was that she went. Probably the bar, considering her words were extremely slurred. With every step she took, it was heavier than anything- like ten earthquakes simultaneously rocking my world.
She was hitting me, landing blow after blow over and over again. I wish it would stop.
I need it to stop!
I almost got away, but she latched onto my shirt and pulled me back.
"Oh, darling. You're not getting away that easily!" She laughed as she dug her long, inhumanly sharp nails into my arms. I cried out as I felt the skin start to split and bleed.
She shoved me onto the floor. Before I could be relieved at her release, my head caught the corner of the table on my way down. Pain exploded through my head, and I could feel hot blood welling up somewhere on my face. Through my blurry, spotted vision I saw her chug down another bottle of vile-smelling beer.
Then, instead of doing what I hoped she would do, she threw it at me. I screamed as it shattered on the floor, showering me in broken shards. I cried out one last time as I felt the pieces of glass embed themselves in my flesh, burning deeper and deeper inside me. As I struggled to run away, my hands slipped on the floor that was pooling with my blood and tears. It rose ever higher, fueled by my bodily fluids, threatening to flood the entire room. The salty mixture seeped into my fresh wounds, burning them black.
Before I black out, I hear her say something. Her voice was no longer slurred, but crystal clear. It was sick and twisted, familiar and yet of something nightmarish that you'd only hear in the darkest depths of hell.
"Remember, Evelyn; however far you run, no matter how hard you fight back, I will be with you. Forever... and Always." As she growled those last words, everything faded away into darkness.
-
I shot up out of my restless slumber, drenched in cold sweat. My heart was pounding. I quickly pulled up the sleeves of my pullover, thinking I had woken up after being knocked out. There were only fading bruises and scars. Then, I remembered where I was. I breathed a sigh of relief.
I glanced at the clock. I only slept for 45 minutes, and I'd managed to have one of the worst nightmares in history. Oh, jeez.
I started unpacking my measly possessions. Anything to get my mind off That.
Someone had brought the rest of my bags up and put them in my room. I plopped down on the pristine bedsheets, feeling myself sink down into the mattress. It felt much comfier up here than on the couch. Maybe if I'd crashed on an actual bed, I'd have been spared the horrors of that nightmare.
I hung up a few of my tops in the closet. Most of my clothing consisted of long-sleeved sweaters, which I used to wear to school to hide the marks. I also had one sundress and two maxi skirts. They were beautiful, but I couldn't remember the last time I wore them. Standing on my tiptoes, I put a few of my pants and shorts on the shelves. Some of them were messed up, but I threw them in anyway. I was never any good at folding clothes. From there, I head into the bathroom to unpack all of makeup and other... Necessities.
I wonder if there's any dishes in the cupboards. Skipping off to the mini-kitchen, I went to check. Sure enough, there was. There was also food in the fridge! Am I supposed to live by myself, completely? I wonder to myself, checking out the other contents of the various drawers. The countertops were sparkling, and even inside the compartments of the kitchen, not a jar was out of place. Just the way it will stay, clean.
I fiddled with my phone, looking for my favorite playlist. Ah, found it.
Forgettable by Project 46 filled my ears.
I absentmindedly started to hum along to the song- This soon developed into quiet singing.
The song's beautiful and uplifting melody rejuvenated me. It was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders, as I started organizing.
I adjusted a photo of me and my cat, trying to get it just right. I finally get it to sit at the right angle on the little counter beside the kitchen. As I subconsciously sung to the tune of my music, I stepped back to examine the angle of the frame. Suddenly, in between songs, I heard something behind me. It sounded kinda large- maybe mice? Huh, not if the cleaning team can help it. Really Evelyn, this is Stark towers. There won't be mice here. After ridiculing myself a bit more I turn around, thinking I might make some tea. I nearly screamed when I saw a figure in my doorway...

Age Shouldn't be Your Restriction When It Comes To Exercising
What do athletes train for? Athletes train for the event that they are competing in. The field however stretches far from the courts and crowds.
You don’t need to complete a podium finish to be an athlete
There are 1/4th of Americans aged 65+ that fall down each year.  Every 11 seconds, another adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall; every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall.  Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults.  Chronic diseases account for 75% of the money our nation spends on health care, yet only 1% of health dollars are spent on public efforts to improve overall health[1].
Forget the assumption that at fill-in-the-blank-age our bodies will fall apart and we will become weak.  Empower yourself to maintain or improve your health through exercise.
You may not be donning some state-of-the-art gear, have sponsors or compete for a podium finish.  Your sport is life and this event has no off seasons.  In life, we literally move to do what we need to do.  Especially to keep our independence as we get older it is key to be able to move well for our quality of life.
The events include the squat, deadlift, pulling objects, pushing things, rotating and lunging. Then think about what you like to do – play with the kids or grandkids, golf, vacation, gardening, triathlons, and the list goes on!  In this metaphor is a nugget of truth- “training for life does not stop at a prescribed age.” What happens if we decide to throw in the towel and stop training for life?
You should not stop exercising regardless of your age.  Disregard assumptions about physical potential as you age because you decide what your potential is.  The point is to hone in on the important fact that exercise is much more than “getting in shape”.  Your type of exercise may change as you age, but don’t stop training for life.
Things could be so different when you choose to empower yourself
Imagine you are planning a trip to visit New Zealand after an old friend from college shares her sons story of the amazing landscapes there.  You not only enlist your partner in crime, but also the invitation is extended to your kids and grandkids.  They all accept the challenge.  Plans are made, everyone is excited.  This will be a splurge but a worthwhile one.  You all arrive in New Zealand.  The next day everyone is up early and ready to log some miles.
Scenario A
You want to participate in the story telling during the walk but you are too focused on trying to navigate uneven terrain.  In the back of your head you knew that your balance was not what it used to be but just decided to push through it.  It is also quickly apparent that it is difficult for you to mount any areas where you have to step up.  Only an hour in the hike and the group is slowing to your pace and you hear a family member say “see I told you this was not a good idea, she is too old for this trip, especially with her arthritis”.
Scenario B.
You are not only able to navigate the terrain during the trip, but you are making it look easy.  Because you knew the trip was coming up you started to work with a fitness professional to improve your balance and strength among other things.  Your knee pain became more manageable because of your sessions and with the help of walking sticks you are able to relieve the pressure on your knees.  Pictures are taken, stories are told and memories are made.
What are you going to do when you get to that point that you are able to experience that joy of enjoying that trip.. vs the frustration of not being able to complete it?
What are you going to do with your life so you make sure you experience your wants and likes?
I am training with a 78 year young client right now for her vacation in Columbia.  Ruth wants to be able to enjoy her trip without being distracted by things like her balance and strength.  Since working with me she has made strides in her balance and agility.  Of great importance she has been aware of how our sessions have improved her everyday life.  She has also purchased and is using walking sticks during her walks to ease the pressure on her arthritic knee.  Otherwise known as Nordic walking, it has been shown in studies the cardiovascular benefits from it.
Train for life so you stay in the green and keep your functional capacity and have a good quality of life where you can do what you want to do.  Inactivity will lead to a quick decline to a place where inability to do everyday activities is life changing.
This is how you can get started
The first step is to talk to your doctor to get cleared for exercise and also make sure that you are on top of any chronic conditions that you have.  Also, get your eyes checked.  Then explore all of the options for you.  Some love the big gym environment, others prefer small studios.  Some individuals prefer personal trainers, others prefer the community aspect of a group class.  Depending on the time of the year and where you live you may have some outdoor options.
You may encounter individuals that disregard you because of your age, make assumptions or don’t know how to work with an older population.  Disregard them and move on to those that show you the respect of challenging you just enough and don’t treat you like you are fragile.
Do exercises that can benefit your daily activities
These exercises below should be part of your regime: squat, deadlift, pulling, pushing, lunging and rotating.  Remember, get cleared for exercise with your doctor and follow any instructions that they may have.  Also feel free reach out to professionals to give you some hands on instructions.
Chair Squats
A good way to improve your squats is to do chair squats. Sit on the edge of a chair without rollers. Have your feet firmly planted so you can stand up. Try crossing your arms across your chest so you don’t rock. Keep a good tall posture. When you do rise push off on your heels. Stand up tall. When you return to the chair don’t just fall down. Return to the chair slowly.
Deadlift
Even if you are not familiar with this name, you do this movement in everyday life. Think about how many times you pick something up off the floor. Many times you are executing a deadlift. There are many useful videos about proper form. Click here to read an article and see the videos. It may be useful to practice this without a weight and have a fitness professional watch your form if you can. This exercise is different than a squat.
Pulling
Resistance bands are great tools for everyone. There are resistance bands with handles already attached and of ranging weights just like dumbbells. You can execute rows if you attach them to a sturdy pole or enlist a partner to hold the other end.
Pushing
Being able to push is important when getting up off the floor, moving furniture or other objects. Wall pushups can be a great way to not only build your arm strength but it can be a good core workout. Start completely vertical and be able to place your palms against the wall at the same time. Try a few pushups against the wall. Focus on bringing your chest to the wall, not your head. Then increase the angle by taking a step back and trying it again. Now your feet are further back than your hands. Make sure you keep that standing plank & keep your body straight like a board. Soon you will find a comfortable but challening angle that you can start to practice your pushups.
Lunging
You want to be able to step in a direction and pick something up. When you do this you are performing a lunge. Strengthen your legs and improve your balance. Start off stepping at a comfortable length forward and pushing back with that front foot. Try stepping to the side and then pushing back. If you are working on improving your balance have a wall at your back for support. Soon step at different angles – just like we do in our everyday life. Think of your path of lunges like the hands of a clock and hit all of them. Holding a moderate weight in your hands can also be a good idea after you have mastered it and your balance is improved.
Rotating
A good way to incorporate rotation in your training is adding a rotation to your lunge. Lunge to the side and then slowly turn in the direction that you lunged. Make sure that you keep tall and don’t lean over. A good way to keep your core engaged is to cross your arms and have your elbows up like a genie. Also if you have a medicine ball or dumbbell you can hold this after you have mastered it and your balance has improved.
Some mental notes to help you maintain this habit
Get friends and have fun
If there is an activity that you enjoy like lawn bowling, dancing or tennis, join a team.  Often as we get older we don’t take time to play and move.  Mix in some activity that is outside the box of “working out”.  There are also many social and emotional benefits of being part of an active community.  Or if you prefer to do something around the house start gardening, that can be a great way to get outside and move!
Create milestones to see the difference
Is there something that you have always wanted to do? Train for that vacation, trip or experience you want to enjoy.  You will see how your improvement benefits your everyday life activities too.
The saying rings true – move it or lose it.  If you don’t train for things like balance or strength chances are those abilities will erode.  You can maintain or regain it, don’t think that you can’t! Instead of dragging your feet to exercise to “get in shape” change your mindset to exercise so you can do what you want to do in life!
