SweetCreek Summers Pt.1

The "long awaited" SweetCreek Summers is here! 💘

This series which may be around 4-5 parts will be updating regularly alongside "I'll Forget You Too." Be warned though, this first chapter is... pretty sappy 😅 Also, the proof-reading in this chapter was minimal, so I apologize for any mistakes. Please Enjoy!

“Give me your phone.” Bea whispered against Poppy’s neck, pressing a kiss to Poppy’s pulse point as she hugged the woman from behind. Poppy, momentarily distracted by Bea’s lips against her neck, only cleared her throat as she spoke.

“Yes, Tevon, I’m-I’m still- ah” She yelped into the phone when Bea reached and licked the shell of Poppy’s ear. “You’re disgusting.” She hissed to Bea who shrugged, before wrapping her arms back around Poppy’s waist and pressing another kiss to the woman’s neck.

“I have to go, Tevon, but call me if you hear anything else.” Poppy hung up the phone a second later, just as Bea grabbed it and tossed it to the side, hearing it land perfectly on the white couch inside of the store’s dressing room.

The two were having what Bea liked to call a ‘shopping date.” Since they were married and even before, Bea typically liked to take Poppy out on dates, but with the company, Clove, and her own work, she barely had the time anymore. When Poppy would shop though, Bea would get over her boredom just to spend time with her wife.

“Bea, I have to finalize this issue before we leave, if I don’t-”

“Hmm, can’t hear you. I’m transporting into my summer mode.” Bea murmured as Poppy rolled her eyes, tilting Bea’s chin back so she could look into Bea’s hickory-colored eyes.

“Summer mode? We still have a whole week before we leave for SweetCreek.” She said, rubbing her manicured thumb across Bea’s chin.

“Yea, but it takes weeks to get into the summer mode. I’m starting early.”

“Even though you have one more project to complete before your PTO?”

“Even then, I can multitask, can you?” She asked Poppy before pressing open-mouthed kisses down Poppy’s neck, feeling her pulse as she smiled against Poppy’s skin.

“I’m a wonderful multitasker.” Poppy mumbled, letting Bea kiss down her neck before Poppy sharply inhaled, gently pressing her hands on Bea’s shoulder and pushing her away.

“You, however, are not helping me pick out new outfits to take.” Poppy said as Bea whined. Poppy patted her head before moving over towards the couch where a large bundle of clothing laid. Bea took a seat on the couch, stretching her legs as she looked at Poppy.

“How long is this summer break?” Poppy asked, looking down at several short skirts as she felt the fabric of each.

“There’s 104 days of summer vacation...” Bea hummed as Poppy raised a brow. “2 months.” She finally said as Poppy nodded, tossing one of the skirts to the side as she held up a white tennis skirt.

“Does SweetCreek even have any clothing stores?” Poppy asked as Bea shrugged.

“There’s Maybelle’s Dressing, but it’s mostly baby clothes.”

“I know, your mother had sent over some baby clothes when Clove was born. She has… interesting taste.”

“Excuse you, Clove looked adorable in overalls.”

“Yes, she did, but our daughter was not going to be dressing like a farmer anytime soon.” Bea laughed, staring in awe at Poppy who was silently judging the summer wear in front of her.

This summer break was going to be absolutely amazing. Bea hadn’t made a whole itinerary for it, but she certainly had moments that she wanted to check off her mental checklist in order for it to be the best SweetCreek summer ever.

The top of the list was going to be the 50th SweetCreek summer fair where the supposed meteor shower was going to fall. It was a legend when Bea was younger and she always wanted to see it happen. Who would have believed that almost fifteen years later, she could have.

“How about this?” Poppy asked, holding up a gorgeous sun dress as Bea whistled under her breath.

“Gorgeous.” She smiled as Poppy nodded, probably adding that to her checkout as she continued to flip through the clothes.

“Your mom called a few days ago, she said she has everything arranged for our visit.” Poppy mumbled as Bea grinned, scooting a little closer on the couch as Poppy continued to sort through clothes.

“Think she’ll make us sleep in separate rooms again?” Bea asked as Poppy rolled her eyes playfully.

“I seem to remember someone sneaking into my bedroom and then leaving at the crack of dawn.”

“Yea, but I just did that cause you get clingy in your sleep, especially when you were pregnant.”

It had been at least two years since Bea and Poppy had visited the farm with Clove. Before, the two only visited occasionally, sometimes near the holiday seasons, but the trip was one that couldn’t just last a weekend. With the Hughes family, there always had to be a huge gathering of cousins, nephews, and nieces.

When Poppy was trying to get pregnant, they visited the farm and Bea’s mother insisted that Poppy take a separate room. Something about an old wives tale that Bea thought was absolutely ridiculous. So, at 11:00 PM every night of the week they stayed over, Bea would head down to the barn, grab the tall ladder, and walk it over to Poppy’s window.

She would climb it, knock like she had when they were at Belvoire, and then sleep with Poppy clinging to her. At 5:00 AM, right before Bea’s mother woke up, Bea would throw on a different pair of clothes and would leave through the window. Luckily, the Hughes were repainting the house and Bea would always pretend she was helping out.

She surprisingly didn’t get caught.

The last time they visited when Clove was three, Bea’s mom stuck Poppy and Clove in the same room while Bea was all on her own. It was a similar routine, except Bea had to get up at 4:00 AM in order to take the ladder back to the barn so she wouldn’t get caught.

Poppy remembered the memory fondly. Bea’s mother, Mary, was a kind woman and she accepted Poppy as her second daughter so quickly. At times, Mary would take Poppy’s side more than Bea’s, making Poppy very happy and Bea pouty.

“Let’s hope that ladder is still in the barn.” Poppy replied, reaching to cup Bea’s cheek as she looked fondly into her eyes.

“My dad is doing a whole reconstruction of the place actually. He wants it bigger cause he’s buying a few more sows and a new donkey.” Bea said as Poppy rolled her eyes.

“Of course. As if the Hughes’ family farm needs more animals.”

“Hey, the farm has grown since the last time we visited! Dad purchased a couple more acres too!”

“You get loud when you talk about farming, SweetCreek.” Poppy mumbled as Bea stood up, moving to wrap her long arms around Poppy’s waist again. It was a comfortable warmth as Poppy tried to ignore her wife who pouted.

“There’s other parts of SweetCreek that changed too. There’s going to be a huge banquet for the upcoming fair and a few rides that are being constructed.” Bea smiled, swaying them to the side as she leaned closer to Poppy’s ear. “I’m going to teach Clove how to ride a horse, we can have a picnic in the groves, and then I’m going to take you on some dates.”

“Dates?” Poppy asked, raising a brow as Bea nodded.

“Definitely, Clove can play with her cousins and Dahlia will be glad to watch her. There’s a drive-in movie theater a few miles down the road and I want to take you there. We can go on my bike, like old times.”

“We’re not teenagers anymore.” Poppy smiled, trying to fight the cheerfulness in her tone as Bea shrugged.

“I don’t care, I’m entering summer mode. I also want to take you to the SweetCreek Corn maze.”

“Ew, you ruined it.” Poppy teased Bea as she turned Poppy in her arms, pressing a kiss to Poppy’s forehead. She smelled good as Poppy smirked.

“You’ll like it. I’ve got plenty of stuff planned, for us and for Clove.” Poppy leaned closer to Bea, standing on her tippy toes as she pressed a kiss to Bea’s neck, smelling her cologne.

“She’s excited, you know. She’s barely gotten any sleep since we told her.” Poppy commented as Bea laughed.

“I know, she wants to see Ella and Ro again, and something tells me you want to see Dahlia again.”

It was true. Dahlia Winter was Ryan’s wife and she was an absolute angel. Besides being the sweetest human to Poppy, she was an absolute joy to be around and Poppy really liked her, surprisingly since she was the type of girl Poppy had avoided at Belvoire.

“How old is Ryan turning again?” Poppy asked, remembering she definitely needed to find a present for him before she left. It wouldn't be hard, he liked simple things, just like Bea did.

“He’s eight years older than me, so thirty-nine. He’s almost an old man now.” Bea laughed as Poppy raised a brow.

“Your thirties are not “old.” They're sophisticated and Ryan turning forty next year won’t make him an old man.” Poppy said as Bea rolled her eyes.

“Of course you would say that. You almost had a full blown mental breakdown when you turned thirty.” Poppy remembered it well, the memory sending chills down her spine.

“Well, I still look good.”

“I think you look great actually, you’re aging like fine wine. I need your secret.”

“My secret? When you still look twenty-five?” Bea grinned, pushing her short hair out of her eyes as she looked at Poppy.

“I think thirty-two suits you. You’ll be thirty-three in November.” Poppy sighed, leaning her head against Bea’s chest.

“Don’t remind me. Between that and the upcoming PTA, I’d rather not think about it.”

“Sorry, sorry, but you shouldn’t worry about the PTA, you obviously had the best booth.” Poppy lifted her head, looking up at Bea and smirking.

“Why are you talking about my birthday anyway? Yours is in August and you haven’t even told me what you want.”

Bea pursued her lips, staring off into the distance as she hugged Poppy closer. “Honestly, I don’t want anything. Maybe just a chocolate cake, a bottle of tequila, and you...” Bea smiled at the thought as Poppy rolled her eyes. She had asked for that every single birthday since they got together and every birthday, Poppy gave it to her and a little more, obviously.

“You’re thinking too simple. It’s not everyday you turn thirty-two.”

“Well, I’ve already scored a hot older wife so I say I’m doing great.” Poppy pushed Bea away playfully.

“Okay, okay, I’ll keep thinking about it.” Bea smiled as she returned to her seat on the couch as Poppy went back to her clothes.

“Well, you have the summer to decide, before Clove returns to Thatcher-heart for the fall.” Poppy mumbled as Bea nodded.

“We’ve gotta plan something for her birthday too. Crazy how we all fall around the same time of the year.” Bea smiled as Poppy took a shirt from a nearby rack in the dressing room. She looked herself over in the mirror as Bea crossed her long legs.

“Sometimes I wonder if she’s growing up too fast.” Poppy spoke as she set the shirt down. “It feels like just yesterday she said her first word and now she’s almost six.”

“I know, it’s crazy. I understand what my mom was saying when she told me I “grew up” too fast.” Bea said as Poppy gestured for Bea to stand as she walked out of the dressing room.

“We have time though. She’s still our baby.” Bea smiled, taking Poppy’s offered hand as she spoke with an employee of the store. The clothes would be sent to their apartment as Poppy walked out of the store with Bea following her.

“Where to now, love?” Bea asked as the two walked down a crosswalk, Bea swinging their hands together as Poppy checked her phone. She was swiping away on emails, typing replies to messages with one hand as the two continued to walk.

“We have about another hour or two till Clove needs to be picked up from school.” Poppy mumbled, looking up at Bea who had stopped in front of a candy store. She moved to open the door for Poppy who rolled her eyes.

Inside the store, the air was sweet, children and parents bustling around for candy as Bea went over to the large lollipops. She grabbed three mystery flavors, holding one out to Poppy who scrunched her nose.

“No, thank you.” Poppy mumbled as Bea shrugged. She went up to the register, a pretty blonde working as she smiled when Bea approached.

“Oh, I love those flavors!” The girl exclaimed as Bea raised her brow. She was currently fishing a five dollar bill out of her wallet as she glanced down at her three large lollipops, the mystery flavors.

“Oh really?” Bea asked, a small tilt in her tone as the blonde blushed red.

“I mean the brand.” She smiled wide as she took Bea’s offered five dollar bill. “You’ve obviously got great taste… in brands.”

“Thanks, they’re my favorite too. Can I have a bag to go?” The employee nodded, twirling the ends of her hair just a little as she bagged the candy.

Poppy, standing to the sides, glared at Bea who accepted the small bag the employee gave her.

“Are you really flirting with anything that breathes?” Poppy asked when Bea returned to her side. Bea shrugged, pressing a quick kiss to Poppy’s cheek before reclaiming her hand.

“How else am I going to get you to notice me?” The employee, who had obviously been starstruck by Bea, blushed once more, but from embarrassment this time as she waved to the two who walked out of the store.

“Okay, we have to go home and pack now. You’ve put it off long enough.” Poppy told Bea who was currently unwrapping one of her lollipops. She placed it in her mouth, swirling it around, before nodding.

“Kiwi. Definitely kiwi.” Bea smiled as Poppy sighed heavily, practically dragging Bea towards the strip’s parking lot. She would probably have to force Bea to actually start packing, but Poppy was very aware of how to make her wife do things, especially when they had an afternoon to themselves.

“Clo, you packed your bag?” Bea asked, peeking her head into her daughter’s bedroom as the little girl was currently sitting on top of her purple suitcase.

“It won’t close mama.” Clove complained, trying to zip it shut as Bea chuckled, opening the door wider and entering Clove’s room.

She kneeled in front of the girl, gently pushing her off of the suitcase as Bea flipped it open. “Huh…” Bea mumbled to herself, looking into the case that should have been filled with clothes and necessities, but instead finding it filled with…. A lot of stuff.

“You really need seven stuffies on the trip?” Bea asked, picking up a golden fish plushy that Clove got when she was two.

“I wanted to bring Mr. Tuna, but what if he gets lonely when I’m not there? So I brought David, but then David might get lonely too!” Clove exclaimed, holding up David, a freaky looking walrus who was missing a tusk.

“Well, what if your last stuffie gets lonely?” Bea asked, taking a seat on the carpet as Clove shook her head.

“Batman hates everyone.” She said, pointing at a black duck stuffie that was currently squished between Clove’s tiny ballet slippers. Bea wanted to laugh, but she knew her daughter was serious, so instead, Bea gently placed each of the stuffies in a nearby box, only leaving Mr. Tuna and Batman.

“Here, Batman can keep Mr. Tuna company when you’re gone. You can just… facetime the others.” Bea said as Clove shrugged, relenting with a nod as Bea returned to look through the suitcase.

“Love, did you stuff this full of candy?”

“What if Granny and Grampa don’t have food?” Clove asked as Bea disguised a laugh as a cough.

Bea set the candy aside, standing up to pack some actual items for Clove who reached into the candy bag to grab an m&m. “Baby, I assure you. They have food.” Bea said, folding up some shirts for Clove and dropping them into the bag. Clove frowned, sitting down on her tiny colorful stool as she picked up a crayon.

“Did you say goodbye to your classmates yesterday?” Bea asked as Clove nodded.

“Yea, but mostly just Sally. I wish she could come with us…” Clove said in her tiny voice that hadn’t reached maturity just yet.

“Sally and her mom wanted to stay in New York. You guys won’t be away from each other for long though. Only a few months.” Bea walked into the bathroom, grabbing some travel sized necessities that probably won’t be needed, but would be good to keep on hand.

“Did you say goodbye to Erin too?” Bea asked, casually hoping her daughter would make some friends instead of enemies.

“No.” Clove said sternly as Bea cringed. There goes her dream. “Erin is dumb and she’s so cold to everyone. She thinks she’s such a good dancer, but she’s not. I’m better.” Clove declared as Bea walked back to the suitcase, wrapping some items in a zipper as she shrugged.

“Erin seems like a nice little girl though. Maybe if she’s struggling, you could help her out.”

“No way mama. Mommy told me to avoid Erin and her mom cause they’re bad people.”

Typical Poppy. “They are not bad people. They’re just a little odd.” Bea smiled, zipping up Clove’s bag and standing it upright.

“Okay, anything else you need. We can buy it.” Bea smiled as Clove jumped up from her chair, running over to her side and grabbing onto her leg like a koala.

“Are we leaving now?” She asked as Bea chuckled, rubbing her head and smoothing back her wild locks. Everyday, Clove began to look more like Poppy and Bea couldn't be happier.

“Not yet, mommy still needs to pack her bags.”

“Bags?” Clove asked as Bea led them into the master bedroom where Poppy was currently standing in their huge shared closet, flipping through items as clothes scattered the floor.

Clove reached down, picking up a gorgeous designer top and looking up at Bea. “...I’m going to watch some t.v.” Clove stated, obviously aware they wouldn't be leaving for a while as she scrambled off, dropping the shirt as Bea rolled her eyes. She placed Clove’s suitcase next to her large black one, before walking over to the closet where a couple of bags were already packed.

“The squirt’s bag is packed.” Bea told Poppy who broke out of her trance of looking at her clothes.

“Good, thank you.” She smiled, walking up to Bea and pressing a kiss to her cheek. Poppy had just applied her perfume, the smell intoxicating as Bea wanted to drag her back into another kiss, but she was already back to her packing.

“I thought you told me you finished packing yesterday?” Bea asked, leaning casually on the door frame as Poppy shrugged. She was wearing white jean shorts and a gorgeous baby blue silk top. Her hair was stylishly parted and her makeup, as usual, was flawless. She wasn’t a fashion CEO for nothing.

Bea, was much more casual, just some regular ankle length black jeans and a white tee with a faded Zoey logo on it, from the day that Bea had the bright idea of mass producing Zoey’s merch when she was just starting out. Even though the girl had much better designs now, Bea liked wearing her old one, more memories.

“Correction, I helped you finish packing.” She sent a wink towards Bea which might have tugged at her heartstrings as she thought back to the other day. It was definitely eventful, with Poppy giving Bea a surprise depending on how quickly she finished packing. Needless to say, Bea packed everything she needed in twenty minutes flat, leading to Poppy dragging her back to the bedroom.

“Well, the plane arrives in an hour so… I’m going to watch T.V with Clove.” Bea smiled at her wife who pouted.

“Wait a minute. You’re going to stay here and actually help me. Fold those clothes for me, darling?”

Bea shook her head gently at the nickname. It was always a change from Poppy’s typical names: SweetCreek, Hughes, bane of my existence. Though, those weren’t used as much anymore, now, Poppy usually just said Bea’s name, but every now and then, she would add in pet names that made Bea a little weak in the knees.

Bea always used pet names, for almost everyone she met, but when it was Poppy using the pet names?

“No, that’s not going to work on me. You’ve got way too many clothes to fold.”

“I do want to look nice for you baby.” Poppy smiled, dropping the shirt she was holding and walking over to Bea. She stopped in front of Bea who was trying to make her way into the living room. Wrapping her arms around Bea’s neck, she brought her lower, ghosting a kiss over Bea’s lips as she felt her stomach cave.

“Please help me, 여보?” Poppy smiled against Bea’s lips as Bea felt her cheeks heat. It was always a pleasure to hear Poppy speak in Korean, something she didn’t do often as Bea felt all willpower fly out the roof. Bea groaned at the word as Poppy pulled back to look into Bea’s eyes.

“You’re cruel for that.”

“미안해, 자기야.”

Whenever Poppy would speak Korean or even worse, French? Bea became an absolute mess.

Bea leaned back down, pressing her lips against Poppys who accepted it willingly. She kissed her more urgently, moving away from Poppy’s lips and pressing kisses to her neck as Poppy softly moaned. The sound urged Bea further till she heard the sound of some obnoxious cartoon coming from the living room. She stopped slightly as Poppy laughed quietly.

“Fine, fine. Where do I start?” Bea asked when Poppy pulled away, smiling softly as she traced her thumb against Bea’s lower lip.

“Over there.” She smirked, gently pressing her palm to Bea’s chest as Bea sighed. She walked over to the bag, reaching to begin her folding, but not before sneaking a glance at Poppy who had a satisfied smirk on her face as she retreated back into the closet.

Poppy’s mother had taught her Korean when she was little. The fancy academy she attended when she was young taught her French, meaning Poppy was equipped for the french fashion world and also her Korean ethnicity.

Bea struggled to even keep up learning Mandarin, mostly able to understand it versus speak it and she even struggled with English even though she learned it first. Languages were not her strong suit so Poppy took over teaching Clove who decided she wanted to learn Korean the most. Their daughter was also not equipped to learn a language since Clove evaded most Korean lessons with Poppy.

Bea folded in silence as Poppy continued to throw around clothes. An hour later, Poppy’s bags were completely folded, their room in disarray, and Bea was currently trying to drag Poppy away from the closet.

“Baby, we don’t want to be late.” Bea told her wife who hadn’t dropped the pair of pants she was holding.

“I’ll be there in a minute.” Poppy mumbled as she walked over to her suitcase. Bea was getting desperate as she sighed heavily.

“If you’re missing anything, I’ll buy it for you, okay? Express shipping.” Bea pleaded as Poppy raised a sharp brow. She shrugged, throwing away the pants and walking over to Bea.

“Alright, fine. Ready to leave?” Poppy asked as Bea nodded.

“Hey Clover! We’re going now!” Bea yelled outside towards the living room as she heard the T.V. switch off.

“YAAY!”

“We’ll be landing in a few minutes.” Poppy leaned back to look at Bea who was currently reading on her iPad. She wore reading glasses that looked a little too good on her as Bea shut off the screen, looking at Poppy who was holding a sleeping Clove.

They were sitting in first class, relaxed in large chairs as Poppy glanced out of the window. She really should have bought a private plane some time ago, but Poppy definitely didn’t travel enough to actually excuse using one. There was also the prompting from Bea that it would be a waste of money since Poppy wasn’t a big fan of planes anyway.

“I’m surprised she was able to sleep.” Bea mumbled, glancing down at Clove who was sleeping peacefully before she shot up, almost bumping Poppy in the chin as she startled.

“I’m awake! Are we there yet?!” Clove asked, looking around wide eyed as Poppy laughed. Bea laughed too, as Poppy moved Clove back to her seat in the middle.

“Not yet, Clo, but you need to put on your seatbelt for when we do land.” Bea reached around to adjust her daughter’s seatbelt, securing it in place and patting her head. Clove whined, crossing her tiny arms across her chest as she stared straight ahead.

Soon, the captain spoke through the comm, instructing passengers to fasten their seatbelts as he began the landing.

Bea looked out the window, recognizing the rolling plains of Missouri as the plan began its descent.

Thirty minutes later, Bea was holding the hand of an eager Clove with a trail of suitcases following her. Poppy was walking behind, rolling her eyes as people passed by in the airport.

“We’re definitely in SweetCreek now.” She mumbled as Bea walked them outside into the parking lot. Bea laughed, shaking her head as Clove looked around curiously.

“Not quite, baby. We still have an hour or two drive ahead of us.”

“Is your brother picking us up?” Poppy asked, crossing her arms over her chest as Bea shook her head again. “You like surprises, right poptart?” Bea asked, leading them further into the parking lot before stopping in front of a rusted red pickup truck. Poppy reeled back in horror as Clove exclaimed.

“Wah! It’s red!” Clove smiled, running up to the truck as Bea grabbed the suitcases and moved towards the back of the truck.

“Bea, please tell me you’re not driving us in this old jalopy?” Poppy asked, the look of horror still on her face as Bea shrugged.

“What? I asked Ryan to drop it off earlier this week! We ride to SweetCreek in style!” Bea smiled, gesturing to the old car as Poppy sighed. Of course, her first mistake was allowing them to vacation in SweetCreek.

“Fine, but make sure you fasten Clove’s car seat extra tight.” Poppy warned as Bea nodded, piling the back with their luggage as she moved to the side of the car. Poppy stepped towards the front, opening the door and immediately cringing.

It definitely lived up to its exterior as Poppy carefully maneuvered herself inside. She could hear Bea humming in the background as Poppy glanced around the old jalopy. It was still the same after all these years, since her first ride in the car and till now. Poppy was wondering why the Hughes family hadn’t scrapped it yet actually.

Finally, Bea came around to the front seat, shutting the door and immediately leaning across the middle, reaching into the glove compartment as Poppy raised a sharp brow.

“Bea, what the heck are you doing?” Poppy asked as Bea smiled, shifting around in the old cassette tapes before pulling back.

She held one up like a prize, before pushing it into the car and turning on the radio that hadn’t seen an upgrade since 1995.

A familiar song began blasting through the speaker, the tempo upbeat as Bea wiggled slightly in her seat. “A classic!” Bea yelled over the loudspeaker as Clove smiled happily. Poppy only rolled her eyes, leaning against the door as Bea finally began to drive out of the airport parking lot, the song, “Love grows” blasting through the speakers as they finally began the final steps of the journey to SweetCreek.

There was something familiar about the scene. Bea, one hand on the steering wheel, the other hanging out the window as she drove down the backroads towards SweetCreek. Her sunglasses were covering her eyes as she sang along to the song, sometimes glancing over at Poppy who’s attention was trained on Bea. Wind whipped within the car, the sound loud, but also comforting as Clove sang behind them, following along with Bea as she shouted happily.

Poppy rolled her eyes at some of the lyrics of the song, especially when Bea would fake her palm as a microphone and start to sing towards Poppy who would only gently push away her wife.

On their car ride, Clove liked pointing out all the animals she saw, noticing every cow they passed and sometimes giving it a name. Poppy only sat quietly, admiring how natural Bea looked in this surrounding even if she hadn’t lived her whole life here. She truly did love the atmosphere of SweetCreek.

Almost two hours in, Poppy saw the fated sign. The faded wooden board with the words “welcome to SweetCreek” sprawled across as Bea drove past it.

Clove pointed at the sign too, smiling wide as Bea slowed the car, turning onto long roads before finally pulling to a stop in front of a large white farmhouse, decorated in flowers and vines. Bea parked the car on the cobble path, switching off the engine and smiling over at Poppy.

“Welcome to SweetCreek.” Bea stated, leaning over the console when Poppy urged her closer. Poppy pressed a quick kiss to Bea’s cheek, before she undid her seatbelt and stepped out of the car.

Immediately, Poppy was hit with the warm sun that SweetCreek had to offer. There was also… the smell of hay and pigs, but she would adjust soon enough. Poppy shook her head gently, walking over to Clove’s door and opening it. She unbuckled her, reached to set her down, and Clove suddenly took off, running away from Poppy and Bea who had begun unloading their suitcases.

“Clo! Slow down or you’ll get hurt!” Bea yelled at her daughter who took off towards the farm house. Clove, smart as ever, reached underneath the mat, finding the spare key and unlocking the door.

“Granny?” Clove yelled before she pushed open the door. Bea rolled her eyes, placing the bags on the cobble as Poppy came around to look at her wife.

Bea smiled, standing in the back of the truck before hopping down when the suitcases were all out. She stood back up next to Poppy, reaching and brushing a strand of hair away from her eyes. Poppy smiled, leaning slightly against the truck as Bea cleared her throat.

“Hey, come here often?” Bea joked, leaning closer before a loud scream echoed in the house. It startled Bea, but she soon recognized the string of mandarin that followed as she pulled away from Poppy, looking towards the farm house as people began to swarm out.

A few seconds later, Bea was engulfed in a large hug by Ryan, her half-brother while Poppy was immediately pulled away by Dahlia who was swinging the woman’s hands happily.

“There you are! We were wondering if y'all got lost!” Ryan exclaimed in a heavy accent ruffling Bea’s hair as she ducked out of her brother’s grasp. Bea smoothed her hair back, before Ryan retackled her. For an old man, he was quick.

“Dude! Get off!” Bea exclaimed, shoving Ryan away playfully as Bea’s cousin, nieces, and nephews swarmed around them. There were at least forty people swarming around as Bea sighed heavily, waving to each one before her gaze fell back to Poppy who was already chatting happily with Dahlia.

“Bea, did you bring us anything back?!” One of her cousins asked as Bea nodded, reaching into her backpack that was now on the cobble as she handed them a large bag of candy she had bought. They exclaimed happily, all chatting amongst themselves as Bea laughed.

“Woah, did you get shorter?” Ryan asked beside his sister as Bea pushed him away. Ryan was around 6’3 and liked to constantly remind Bea that she was shorter.

“Did not. Bug off old man.” Bea laughed as her brother groaned, just as two kids ran up to Ryan, sticking to his legs like Clove did to hers.

“Daddy Daddy, can we show Clove the new chickens?” Ella and Ro asked at the same time as Ryan nodded at his daughter.

“Okay, but make sure you keep your distance. The babies scare easily.” Ryan smiled as the little girls went to run off before shouting over at them.

“Hey! You’re not even going to greet me?!” Bea asked playfully as the two looked at each other before running back over to Bea and practically tackling her into a hug.

“Hi auntie Bea!” Ella said, hugging Bea around the neck when Bea crouched down. She rubbed the little girl’s hair, gently pulling on her long brown braid before moving to give Ro a hug too.

“Where’s Auntie Poppy?” Ro asked as Bea laughed, gesturing over to where Poppy was still conversing with Dahlia. “Over with your Mommy. It’s good to see you again Rosie.”

The little girl grimaced at the name before Ella, her older sister, began to drag her off. “Hey, you both play nice, okay?” Bea yelled at the two who took off towards the farmhouse before being stopped at the door and turned around by none other than Bea’s mom, Mary Sun-Hughes.

She was holding Clove in her arms, smiling over at Bea who began to walk away from the crowd. She walked up the stairs of the house as her mother set down Clove who was grinning wide. Bea leaned down to hug her mother who hugged her just as tightly.

“Welcome home, Phoebe.” Her mother said as Bea rolled her eyes, pressing a kiss to her mother’s cheek before pulling away.

“Mom, I told you it’s just Bea now.” She smiled as her mother reached to pinch Bea’s cheek roughly. “Ow, ow!” Bea yelped as her mother tsked.

“You and Clove are both too skinny. I should send more food to New York. Heaven knows your beautiful wife is also not eating properly.” Her mother said as Bea nodded as Clove clung onto Mary’s dress.

“Granny, granny! I grew taller now! Can you measure me?!” Clove asked, pointing over at the wall near the staircase where Mary had begun to mark the heights of all the children on. Clove hadn’t been for some time, which meant she would definitely get the growth spurt medal.

“Of course, Clover. Let’s go. Bea, make sure everyone returns to their chores and yours are on your bed upstairs.” Her mother said, gesturing towards the stair before taking Clove’s hand and walking her over to the “height” wall.

Only five minutes back and she probably had a mile long list for Bea to complete. “Wait, where’s dad?” Bea asked as her mother and daughter left before Bea walked into the old farmhouse.

It had gone through several renovations, but since the farm had grown thanks to her aunt’s inheritance, her father, Oliver Hughes, was able to do a complete renovation, buying more acres and expanding the house to account for most family members.

Sitting in his large wooden chair, Oliver glanced up from the newspaper he was reading, smiling wide when he saw Bea step into the large kitchen as he set down his wooden pipe. He was old fashioned like that.

Standing up, he towered over Bea as she went up to the man, hugging him around his chest as he hugged her back.

“Welcome home, honey bee.” He said in a thick old accent, patting her on the back as Bea smiled. She let go a second later as the man looked her over with a simple smile.

“You look good kid.” He said as Bea nodded, looking at his thick white mustache, his thinning white hair, and his kind dark blue eyes.

“You too dad.” She said, just as she heard the commotion from outside begin to travel into the farmhouse.

Bea turned around, watching everyone stream inside as Oliver chuckled heavily. Poppy was in front, hand on Dahlia’s arm as the two walked inside before Poppy caught Bea’s eye. She left Dahlia for a split second, walking over to Bea and her father as she waved at Oliver.

“It’s good to see you again Oliver.” Poppy smiled, taking Bea’s offered hand as the two turned around to look at the older man.

“You as well Ms. Poppy. Might I say you continue to look just as gorgeous as ever.” He said, reaching and pulling Poppy into a side hug as she accepted it from the tall man. He towered over Poppy as well, a good several inches on her as he pulled back with a smile.

“How long are y’all staying again?” He asked, picking up his pipe and smoking it before putting it down when Mary re-entered the room with Clove in hand.

“Oliver, Clove has gotten so tall since we last saw her!” Mary told her husband as Clove beamed.

“Well of course, you’ve got your mom’s growth spurt. When I first met Bea, she was a tiny thing, but then boom!” He booped Clove on the nose as he leaned down. “She grew like a weed.” Clove laughed, hugging Oliver around his neck as he leaned down to pick her up. She was tiny compared to the man as Mary smiled.

Turning quickly, Mary gasped softly as she rushed to greet Poppy who smiled. “It’s wonderful to see you again Poppy.” Mary said, pressing a kiss to Poppy’s cheek as she pulled back. “I don’t know how you do it, but you don’t look a day older than when we first met!” Mary said as Poppy nodded at the older asian woman.

“I hear that often.” Poppy smiled as Mary dropped her hands, moving to tuck Poppy’s hand against her arm as she moved them into the living room.

“Come, we’re about to assign rooming since most of your cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles arrived late.” Mary dragged Poppy with her as Bea followed with her father and Clove.

Standing on the staircase, Mary addressed the large family as some of them quieted down while others continued to chatter. A loud clear of his throat from Oliver finally silenced the crowd as Mary began to speak.

“Now that we are all here, I want to assign the rooming arrangements for everyone since some of you will be staying longer than others.” Mary said as she whipped out a folded piece of paper. She began to list down names, some complaining, others exclaiming happily as everyone listened.

“Bea and Poppy will be rooming in Bea’s old room while Clove will room with Ella and Ro.” The three girls all shouted in unison, happy cheers as the crowd laughed. Finally, the list ended as Mary shouted out additional instructions, before the crowd dispersed.

Mary placed the sheet down, patting Poppy’s hand before dropping it. “Since you arrived a little late, you can relax on your first day here. Bea, can you help your father tomorrow with the new structure of the barn?”

“Got it mom.” Bea said as her mother nodded.

“It’s time to prepare dinner, but I’ll call when it’s done. For now, please go unpack your bags.” She said as Bea moved towards the front door, before it opened, revealing Ryan holding all of their bags.

“Hey, old room right?” Ryan asked as he carried the bags into the house as Bea rolled her eyes.

“Show off.” Bea mumbled as she walked up the large staircase with Ryan. Poppy followed, helping Clove as they made their way to the second story that was a large section of the floor plan. Multiple doors lined the floor as they continued up the staircase and into the third story where only a couple of doors stayed.

Opening the door further away, Ryan revealed Bea’s old bedroom that was less furnished then when she had left it. The bed was still there and Bea’s dresser and vanity, but when it had previously been littered in posters and pictures, it was no longer, instead, it had been repainted with a soft cloudy blue as Ryan set the bags in the room.

“Dinner is in an hour or two. Don’t do anything I wouldn't do.” Ryan smiled at the family, before closing the door and leaving Clove, Bea, and Poppy alone in the large room.

Clove bounced around happily, moving to grab her suitcase as she tried to haul it out of the room. “I’m rooming with Ella and Ro!” Clove exclaimed happily before they heard a knock on the bedroom door. Bea moved to open it, looking down and seeing two sets of big brown eyes looking back up at her.

“Can we show Clove the chickens now?” The two girls asked as Bea moved to the side where Clove had been trying to get past.

“Yes!” Clove answered, looking back at Poppy and Bea who nodded. The three ran off as Bea shut the door, locking it before turning back to Poppy.

“Oh my gosh that was chaotic.” Bea smiled walking over to Poppy who hadn’t stopped smiling.

“It certainly was like that when I first came here, but for different reasons.” Poppy said as Bea gently walked the girl backwards before she casually fell back onto Bea’s childhood bed. Her blonde locks spread against the comforter as Bea smiled wide.

“Well, that’s because I was madly in love with you and everyone could tell.”

“Everyone except for me.” Poppy mumbled as Bea moved to rest on top of Poppy. Her hands trailed low, fiddling with the waistband of Bea’s jeans as she looked up at her wife. “Shouldn’t we check on Clove?” Poppy asked as Bea shrugged.

“Did you see how many people greeted us? There’s a person on every inch of this farm and they all know who Clove is. She’s very safe.”

“So, what do you want to do now?” Poppy asked, moving her thumbs against the dip in Bea’s skin as she hissed slightly. Poppy’s palms were rather cold but soon became warm the further she traveled up Bea’s shirt.

Was it wise to be getting so frisky on the third story of her parent’s house with Bea’s whole family down below?

Bea pressed a kiss to Poppy’s lips, tongue slipping between her rose colored lips as Poppy moaned. She traced Poppy’s bottom lip, tasting her strawberry lipstick that Bea loved to death. Bea let her hands trail up Poppy’s arms, pushing them so they were above her head as she used her fingers to circle the flesh of Poppy’s wrists.

Poppy smirked when Bea reached towards the buckle of Poppy’s jeans, expertly undoing one of the buttons with her left hand while her lips pressed open mouthed kisses down Poppy’s chest. Poppy’s breath quickened just as Bea hooked a finger in the loop of Poppy’s shorts, reaching to pull them lower as she pressed a final kiss to Poppy’s collarbone.

But Bea pulled away just as she heard her mother’s voice shout through the house.

“Dinner time!” Mary yelled, the loud sound of the infamous dinner bell ringing throughout the whole house and towards the Hughes’ fields.

Bea stood up, brushing back her hair as Poppy continued to lay against the bed. “Sorry, dinner.” Bea smiled as Poppy rolled her eyes, grabbing Bea’s hand and tugging her back down onto her. She landed with a shout, just as Poppy silenced her with a kiss.

It was going to be a long summer.

A/N: moving forward is always a weird and stressful thing so being able to find some form of solace, some stability is incredibly valuable. I really love this folklore series allowing me to explore difficult topics like the last few fics but also things as fulfilling as this.

The end of life as you knew it was today. Today, March 1st, you graduated from Karasuno High School. The graduation took a good portion of the morning and left you along with all of your friends in tears, saying goodbye to the place that acted as fertile soil for you to grow into young adults ready to take on the world.

Each hall holds memories, some good like where you were elected class president, and some bad like the stairwell where you were dumped for the first time, but each is integral to who you are now.

Tonight, Sugawara is hosting a party for everyone to close out this part of your life, surrounded by friends and peers you may not see again. You head over to Kiyoko’s house to get ready with her and do her hair. She lent you a purple dress with a deeper v than she felt comfortable wearing, and saying the color would compliment your skin tone.

Once the two of you finish with your makeup and getting dressed, you leave for Suga’s. Tanaka and Noya meet you outside of Kiyoko’s to escort you there saying something about protecting your honor or fighting off men who want to defile you. You know Suga invited the volleyball team so it is to be expected. Their jaws dropping and literal drool hanging out of their mouths when they see the two of you also isn’t a surprise but it always does something for your self confidence.

The short walk over to Suga’s house was filled mostly by the boys lamenting their love for you and how they didn’t know how to go on next year with you. You Hear them, but aren’t really listening. Opting to reminisce on the moments you enjoyed and the opportunities that you wish you took in the past three years.

You are thankful you joined the volleyball club with Kiyoko. You wish that you would have been more involved in Student Government. You are happy you dated your first boyfriend. You are not thankful you dated your second one. You are thankful for Asahi’s help with Japanese Literature.

The good moments vastly outweigh the bad, and overall you are content with who you are and what you've done. Sure, you could have had a little more fun, but you graduated at the top of the class and got into the university you dreamed of with a scholarship. A satisfied smile graces you lips as you open the door to Sugawara’s very packed house.

His parents were gone for the weekend getaway, although you expected they knew his plans. The beat of music resonates beneath the hum of laughter and conversation. Tanaka and Noya almost make it to the kitchen, before Yachi catches their eye. You and Kiyoko can handle yourselves, Yachi on the other hand? She needs their help.

You find yourself in a game of spin the bottle with many of your peers, everyone multiple drinks deep and generally just letting loose. Once it’s your turn, you finish your drink and let the liquid courage assist your spin. Of course. The bottle points at astudy man whose back is resting against the couch and is sporting a ready grin.

Never backing down from a challenge you let the alcohol move you, every drop of it fueling each step towards him until you take initiative and sit in his lap. His hands immediately are on your hips pulling you into him for a kiss.

Neither of you wanted to be the one to back down in front of your classmates. But even more so you didn’t want to lose the allure of his lips on yours or the soft hair that your hands we’re running through. it was intoxicating, more so than the rum and coke you could taste in his lips or the vodka cran you had just finished.

The sharp sound of something shattering, broke the moment. Suga and a few others shot up and ran over towards the sound, curses stumbling out of their mouths just like their feet.

You and Daichi did not follow. Your forehead resting against his, staring into his eyes, trying to understand what he was feeling, what he wanted. You didn’t figure it out before his large hands cupped your head and pulled you into another, albeit much softer kiss. Tonight, this is what you both wanted.

That was the start of the best summer of your life. Daichi walked your home soon after the silly drinking game. Ever the gentleman he walks you up to your door and turns away to leave without making a move, but you can’t hide laugh.

“Daichi, you’re really gonna kiss and run? Not even give me a goodnight one? Some suitor you are.” Each word soaked in the alcohol of the sweet mixed drinks you consumed. Playful and flirting, nothing too serious but an invitation he is more than welcome to take.

It seemed like you saw Daichi everyday. In between packing for college and seeing your friends for the last time in a while, he was there. Varying from a quick lunch date just enjoying each other, to late night drives talking about the future or even the rare afternoon the two of you did edibles and just laid around talking about conspiracies.

It was rarely planned, either of you shooting the other a message asking if they wanted to hang out. The spontaneity that spurred the beginning of this continued. What you were doing wasn’t ever really discussed, both of you just enjoying the time you had together.

You both were attending the same university in the fall, but never talked about what that specifically means for you two. It comes to a head when your parents walk in on you watching a movie one day. The scene they saw was nothing obscene but rather heartwarming and you knew the look on your mother's face, one that indicated a bunch of questions coming later.

He agreed to go on a drive instead of finishing the movie and probably knew that you were going to talk about this.

“Dai, I don’t really know what we are and I enjoy seeing you and spending time with you and kissing you but like I need to know what this is. Is it just fun? Is it the beginning of more? It’s ok either way but I just need to understand.”

“Y/N, this started as fun and it always has been fun. I know we both mentioned not wanting to be tied down going into university but I don’t want to diminish the fact that we are good together. Maybe we just keep this as a summer fling and reassess when we get to uni? I don’t know. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable and I don’t want to lose you. I don’t—“

You can see the tension and nerves building in his body and the words tumbling out of his mouth becoming shaky.

“Hey, hey, hey, hey, Daichi I’m here. Shh. You aren’t going to lose me. I think that sounds great. Let’s enjoy the rest of the summer together and just see what uni is like. We can continue this if we want to but no obligation. This is fun, not stressful.”

Your words are accompanied by your hands swiftly massaging tension out of his shoulders and neck and moving up to cup his cheeks. Unlike the beginning of this, now you saw trust and yearning in his eyes. It was a comfortable sight you had grown to value. A sight you never wanted to lose, but content that you had the opportunity to see it.

Maybe you hope that you and Daichi ended up together and maybe he did too. But even if he didn’t, this summer was fun and worth every single second.

Top 15 Animated TV Series!

In a similar fashion to my top 15 movies and games, I came up with a list of animated series. With that 3D or 2D is acceptable and anime doesn’t count because it’s its own type of thing and isn’t the same as cartoons (and potential for another list) Again, no particular order, let’s do this!

House of Mouse: I said no particular order but this is number 1, no lie, it does everything it needs to. You have a crossover event of all the Disney characters at the time in a club. It’s a cartoon character about cartoon characters trying to handle the establishment and watch cartoons...it breaks every wall, it’s something I almost wish was updated just so we could see a new generation of cartoon characters together.

Rugrats: What can I say? What can’t I say? This as well as All Grown Up and the movies it started just click, something about the characters and breaking it down to a child’s perspective is soothing to me.

Avatar: the Last Airbender: A lot of these I’ll admit, I have nostalgia for, but at the same time, a lot of these I didn’t watch until I was older, this is one of them. I knew this existed and watched a few episodes, I liked the concept but never truly got into it (partially because of the live action movie) I thought they were just running out of ideas when they gave Aang hair...then I watched Korra. That’s right, I watched Korra before this too and I liked it, naturally I came back to it after everyone said this was so superior, I was like “Yeah alright sure.” I saw the whole thing and I must say...it’s considered a masterpiece, I realized just how superior it is pretty quickly and I started feeling so sad that the live action movie was like it was but you’ve heard people complain about it to the end and back so you don’t need to hear it from me, nor do you need to hear that I like it, I know that you already know that it’s good.

Infinity Train: I was around when they launched the pilot and it got popular, I liked it and was down for more but everybody acted like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, I wouldn’t go that far...Then it came out and it was, but don’t say “Oh I knew it was going to be that good.” You COULD NOT tell from that pilot alone just how good it was going to be, that was just a taste to get you interested. I like the darker tone and themes it’s not afraid to shy away from such as divorce and loss, I can personally really connect to that.

Recess: I usually take a break after a season of something because I’m afraid I’ll get tired of it and leave it for a year but during all 4 seasons of this, not once did I get tired of it. I liked how the episodes were more compact to fit into a shorter episode. This is another one I didn’t like until I got older, it just grew on me and hit that 12 year old spot (which I’ll get to in a little bit and I was actually in late high school by the time I watched this so...) I mean it’s called recess for crying out loud!

Tron Uprising: It just isn’t a list without Tron on it, is it? It’s only natural that Uprising would be here. I can’t say that I was hooked after just the first or second episode but that’s because it builds you up, each episode gives you more interest than the last and ends on a bit of a climax that left Tron fans in a despair that season 2 was canned. However I can say that even though we all wanted to see Tron turn into Rinzler, what we got was about as good, something we didn’t even know we needed. #TronLives #FlynnLives

The Replacements: One of the wild cards of this list. I remember being fascinated by the idea, just replacing people, but each episode had a valuable lesson that maybe these people don’t need replaced and some problems are sometimes best solved on your own.

Miraculous Ladybug: If you’re a fan then you know, if you’re not then let me explain. I was dating someone at the time and they said they got deep into Miraculous Ladybug, I was like “Are you joking?” and of course they weren’t. I thought it was just Chat Noir as a boy toy and average girl power nonsense that I’m not interested in. She said to just watch it. I did. Oh boy I did. I’m probably more of a fan than that girl ever was now, I wait patiently for the next episode, seeing leaks drives me nuts, I start screaming and cringing and jumping up and down during an episode. I can’t say I’ve had another series get more of a reaction out of me than this because I want to see Adrien and Marinette get together so bad and the way they tease just makes me feel like Swiper “Aww man” but at the end of the day you still get a good action cartoon with good characters that make you feel attached. Look at the chemistry they have, Marinette (Ladybug) likes Adrien but just sees Chat as a friend, Adrien (Chat) likes Ladybug but just sees Marinette as a friend. They don’t know each other’s identities and have to learn to like the other half of that person, it’s genius. All my previous thoughts before watching it were wrong, just because they’re in skin tight suits, doesn’t make it some souped up kink of a fan service. Just give it a try, I don’t care what it looks like, it’s what’s on the inside that matters.

Big Hero 6: The Series: It was either this or Lilo and Stitch: The Series, I have a soft spot for Baymax so I chose this. I’m almost done with season 2 and it’s solid, I would argue that this should be content included in the sequel, the canon as a whole, this is something that carries on the story in an interesting way, if only it was given a little more love and attention but hey sometimes underdogs are the best.

Dexter’s Lab: I wanted to pick one of my late night shows, the stuff that came on around 8-9 as a kid, this was one that I liked. I always kind of had an inventive side to things and this was that come to fruition.

Spectacular Spider-Man: This is one of the best art styles I’ve seen, done by Sean Galloway, it has a pleasurable atmosphere and design to these characters that we already love. This takes stuff and plays around with it, they dabble in a little bit of everything in a measly 2 seasons and somehow make it some of the best in Spider-Man history.

Sofia the First: Another wild card that I knew people would question. A Disney Junior show though? As much as it pains me to say it, yes...a Disney Junior show. Sofia is just a girl in a village doing alright then she becomes a princess overnight, now she has to figure out how to do it right, so much to learn and see. It’s all right there in the opening theme, it has the crossover element of some of the famous Disney princesses while building on Sofia (Ariel Winter) it’s interesting to see her adjust to her new life and these new people, and yes it’s past my generation but my sister watched it and now I can’t get it out of my head. The music is actually really good as well as some of the fantasy elements, I can’t help but compare stuff to it. It may say Disney Junior on the cover but dee down it’s just another show, similar to the Dragon Prince actually, except not as keen on squashing creatures, they skip that part which in my opinion makes it superior (yeah I said it).

Regular Show: I said earlier about the 12 year old spot, well this is it. It’s very much something that 12 year old me would like, it’s got weird jokes, cool characters, awkward romance, what’s not to love? Me and my friends would reminisce about the episodes (especially that coffee one) then when my parents would walk in they would be like “What even?” especially with Muscle Man, a whole character based on ‘my mom’ jokes instead of ‘your mom’. It’s just enough weird without going into adult swim territory.

Ben 10: Alien Force: Yep, ACTION. CARTOON. It was either this or the original but when I got into the first series whenever ‘Race Against Time’ came out, I still missed quite a bit so I had to catch up. I was there for the whole thing whenever Alien Force came out and I would consider it just as good, Ultimate Alien was still good (maybe not as high) but I came to that late to the party because Alien Force seemed like it was on hiatus so I kind of forgot about it and then Ultimate Alien comes out and I thought it was just a new Alien Force I missed, turns out I watched all of Alien Force and it was technically a new series. It also introduces a majority of my favorite aliens, Spidermonkey, Echo-Echo, Rath...

Phineas and Ferb: What? You think I wasn’t cultured? I was there when this came out in 3rd or 4th grade and people were getting those Subway toys, we were all like “104 days of summer vacation so 104 episodes?” Nope! We were all bamboozled, this was one for the generation because of the amount it introduced and by the sheer worth that it went on past that original 104 and was still good. It’s iconic, it’s crazy, it’s inventive, it’s...Ferb. Then they came out with Across the 2nd Dimension and had Slash!?! Like it’s a phenomenon at that point.

Summary:

Jihoon has never seen Phineas and Ferb. You can’t let it stay that way.

This is a very specific fanfiction, for a very specific type of person who grew up watching Phineas and Ferb. But either way, I wrote it so I hope you guys enjoy! And if you haven’t ever watched Phineas and Ferb,,,, Just know you are really missing out.

It started out when you realized just how different growing up in Korea was to growing up in America.

Sure, somewhere deep down you realized that Jihoon hadn’t grown up with the same television shows as you, but there were certain shows that had just made your childhood that you had simply assumed everyone had seen.

Like Star Wars or Die Hard, no matter what country you were in, you had at least heard of it.

But when you walked into Woozi’s studio one day, simply stating “hey Jihoon, whatcha doin’?” And he hadn’t understood the reference, it had totally turned your world upside down, and not in a good way.

“What do you mean you’ve never seen Phineas and Ferb?” You asked for possibly the millionth time that day. Jihoon glanced over at you looking somewhat unamused.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t watch those kinds of shows when I was growing up,” Jihoon replied. You sat next to him on the bench and tried to just eat your noodles like the rest of Seventeen were, but you couldn’t keep to yourself.

“But it’s Phineas and Ferb,” you blurted. “What kind of life can you be leading if you haven’t watched Phineas and Ferb before?”

Jihoon looked at you again, his own noodles partially in his mouth, partially not. You scrunched your face in frustration and looked across the table at Vernon.

“You really never showed him Phineas and Ferb? I mean I’d expect it from Joshua but from you? I’m disappointed,” you stated. Vernon only looked moderately offended, it was Joshua who was surprisingly enough the most hurt.

“Hey I watched Phineas and Ferb too,” he grumbled.

“Why does she keep talking about Phineas and Ferb?” Seungkwan asked slightly annoyed. “What is Phineas and Ferb?”

“It’s a children's show,” Joshua explained. You scoffed and crossed your arms.

“It is a staple in every American’s childhood,” you insisted stubbornly. “It’s the best cartoon ever made ever.”

Every member of Seventeen stared at you blankly. You pouted and leaned back slightly. You tried to stay silent, forget about it, but for some reason, you just couldn’t get it out of your head... Phineas and Ferb had been such an important show in your young life, that dating someone who never had the chance to appreciate it just felt... Wrong.

You stared at your noodles, honestly feeling a bit upset, but you didn’t have to feel like that for too long. After only a few moments, Jihoon was nudging you in the side with his elbow.

“Do you want to stay up all night watching it?” He asked. Your eyes lit up.

“Are you serious?” You asked excitedly. He nodded, a small smile crossing his lips.

“If the show is that important to you then I don’t mind watching it with you,” he agreed. You whooped your excitement and wrapped your arms around his neck, planting a kiss on his lips.

“Jihoon, you’re the best.”

Half the boys at the table groaned at the public display of affection, but you didn’t even care.

That night you two settled on the couch at your home, wrapped in a blanket with all sorts of snacks surrounding you. You had so much popcorn already in your mouth that Jihoon had already made three jokes that you ate a lot, which you, of course, countered with the fact that you ate just as much as he did.

You hadn’t actually watched Phineas and Ferb in years. For crying out loud you were an adult now. Your days of pretending to be sick just to stay home and watched Phineas and Ferb all day were in the past.

But when the theme song began to start playing, it was like you were in middle school all over again.

“There are 104 days of Summer Vacation and school comes along just to end itttt, so the annual problem for our generation is finding a good way to spend it... Like! Maybe!”

You began to sing the opening with just as much energy as Phineas and Ferb were on the television screen. You sang to each trumpet blow, blurted out every line that Phineas and Ferb said during the opening and even jumped to the very end break right before the finale of the song.

“Mooommmmm, Phineas and Ferb are creating a title sequence.”

You violently strummed to the last guitar strum in the air and burst into laughter.

“Oh my gosh, you’re going to love this Jihoon!” You insisted excitedly. You slid yourself back into his side, smiling widely. He chuckled softly and kept his eyes on the captions before him.

By the time the first episode had ended he already had questions.

“So these boys-”

“Phineas and Ferb,” you supplied.

“Right, Phineas and Ferb,” he agreed. “They just build crazy inventions and spend their summer days driving their sister wild?”

You hummed and nodded.

“Pretty much. They have really quirky lines and some really fun catchphrases along with it. The show isn’t afraid to make fun of itself.”

Jihoon was silent for a moment, and then he tilted his head, resting it against your head.

“Aren’t they a little too young for that?” He asked.

You giggled slightly.

“Yes, yes they are.”

That made Jihoon glance at you, obviously wondering why that question had made you laugh.

“What? They get that a lot,” you replied. “It’s one of their funny catchphrases.”

“This show seems like it’s kind of everywhere,” he replied skeptically. You nodded your agreement.

“Yeah, it kind of is,” you admitted. “But that’s what makes it so incredible. Somehow it works despite it being totally chaotic.”

“But-”

“Shh, shh pay attention!”

You guys hit, all of the classics. You watched Swintr, the Rollercoaster episode, The Beak, the aglet episode.

With each episode, you fell back in love with every line and every quirky moment.

During “Dude, We’re Getting the Band Back Together” you couldn’t help but sing along to every song, even Jihoon couldn’t help but to tap his foot to “I ain’t got rhythm”.

You guys started watching so many episodes that even Jihoon started to giddily say the catchphrases with you. “Ferb I know what we are doing today.”

He fell in love with Jeremy and Candance, making quips at you asking if she was why you had been so obsessed with him because you learned how to have a crush on someone from her.

“But when I turned around Jeremy was standing right behind me!” You said completely in unison with Candance. “Well, actually he was sitting, and he was a couple of blocks away but he was right there!”

Jihoon laughed, his whole body bouncing with the motion.

“Doesn’t that just prove what I said earlier?”

You responded to such an accusation with a sharp glare, which only made him laugh more. You even had to pause the episode because he seemed to think he was so funny.

“Oh my god, I almost forgot about this episode!” You blurted excitedly. “Phineas says it himself, but they do the Rollercoaster episode again, but with a musical spin.”

“But isn’t the show itself already a musical show?” He asked, furrowing his eyebrows. You laughed.

“Isn’t this show the best? The end dance break is even choreographed by Kenny Ortega!”

“Kenny Ortega?”

“The guy who choreographed Highschool musical, duh.”

By four in the morning, when you would have thought that he would have been tired of watching the show, the two of you were still going pretty strong.

“See it occurred to me that I should be fighting fire with fire. And by fire, I mean Perry the Platypus. And by fire, I also mean Perry the Platypus. It occurred to me while I was on fire,” you rattled off, perfectly nailing the timing on every line that you said.

Jihoon turned to look at you, his eyebrows raised in amusement. You wondered briefly if maybe you had gone too far. You had kept him up till all hours of the night, making him watch a children's cartoon show with Korean subtitles, annoyingly singing along to every song, and randomly blurting out every line that you knew perfectly.

Most people would find that annoying.

“What?” You asked nervously. “Something wrong?”

Jihoon shook his head.

“No, I was just thinking about how cute you are,” he replied. “How many guys can say that they are lucky enough to have a girlfriend so obsessed with kids show that they would keep him up all night?”

“You’re actually quite unlucky. Now that I know you haven’t watched Phineas and Ferb, I also know you haven’t watched Gravity Falls which is another huge tragedy.”

��And here I spent the last few months assuming you were just a normal girlfriend.”

You laughed.

“You silly boy,” you stated softly, patting Jihoon’s head. He rolled his eyes and batted away your hand.

“You about ready to get some rest?” He asked. “I know you are loving this, but it is getting late.”

You went through the checklist silently in your head.

You had watched all the important episodes you could think of and of course you had watched everyone’s favorite episode Summer Belongs to You. There wasn’t really much more to add to this important experience. You wrinkled your nose.

“It was nice to see Meep,” you mumbled. He laughed.

“And now you’ve become delirious,” he said pleasantly. “Let’s get you to bed.”

You got up and shut off the television, watching as the animated characters on the screen turned to black. You sighed happily.

“Thanks again,” you said. Jihoon looked at you, the surprise evident as he hesitated to continue folding the throw blanket the two of you had been using to stay together.

“For what?” He asked. You shrugged offhandedly.

“Watching the show with me. I know that it is kind of dumb-”

Jihoon interrupted you by holding his hand out in front of him.

“Hey, it was part of your childhood. It wasn’t dumb,” he said pleasantly. Your face reddened slightly.

“I love you.”

“I Gitchee Gitchee Goo you too,” Jihoon replied. You laughed, and couldn’t help but think about just how lucky you had gotten, getting to date a boyfriend as great as Jihoon.

More Phineas and Ferb references

So after rewatching the entirety of Milo Murphy's Law (again), I've caught several more Phineas and Ferb references, in both seasons. Some of these, I have mentioned in other posts, but not the one I previously made. I'll start with three that I found in season 1 but did not include in my previous list.

In Missing Milo, when Zack, Melissa and Sara knock on Orton's door, Zack remarks, "Whoa! You look like a really old Dr. Zone!" This could be a reference to the scene in Phineas and Ferb's Quantum Boogaloo where Present!Candace walks into the Future!antique store and says "Mom! You're sooooooooo oooooooollllll..." and then Present!Phineas and Ferb walk in and Phineas completes the comment.

In Some Like It Yacht, Mort asks Zack and Milo, "Did you guys see the omelet station?" This might be a reference to the episode "Mom's Birthday," in which Phineas asks if Candace would like to man the omelet station, she refuses, and later comes to regret it when her instruments keep disappearing.

Also, the plot of that episode is very similar to the plot of Swiss Family Phineas.

Now we move on to season 2. Note that I did not count anything from The Phineas and Ferb Effect. I was also careful with the Doofenshmirtz plot over the course of the season.

In Snow Way Out, Milo and Zack build a giant slingshot, which they have to use before the whale closes its mouth. This references Summer Belongs to You, in which Phineas, Ferb and their friends build a giant slingshot to send their paper airplane over the ocean before the sun goes down.

In Picture Day, the school marquee says "There's are only 82 days of summer vacation... and that's 104 days away". Aside from the grammar mistake, this is an obvious reference to the theme song of Phineas and Ferb.

Also in Picture Day, Cavendish shows Mr. Block the picture of Milo, while Chad sends Amanda the picture of the yeti. This could be a reference to The Fast and the Phineas, in which Candace shows her mom the picture of herself screaming instead of the one of Phineas driving in the race.

Also, in general in season 2, Cavendish and Dakota (mainly Cavendish) try to show Mr. Block the evidence for some alien device they've found, only for it to backfire in the end. This is very similar to how Candace always tries to show her mom the evidence for what her brothers have done, only for it to backfire.

The episode Agee Ientee Diogee (which, by the way, is pronounced A-G-E-N-T-D-O-G) is basically Misperceived Monotreme, but with Diogee instead of a random platypus.

Dakota in Lady Krillers and Mr. Blunt in The Mid-Afternoon Snack Club are both heard singing "I'm Lindana and I Wanna Have Fun!"

In Disco Do-Over, we learn from Mr. Block some information that makes Doofenshmirtz's backstory even worse: that his father thought so little of him that he actually made him replace a lawn gnome made of alien droppings in their garden. (This also gives a disgusting new look into Phineas and Ferb's Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror!)

Also in that same episode, we see Doof's embarrassing "I am a superstar" video, first shown in Tip of the Day.

In The Ticking Clock, Victor Verliezer is launched away from the clock and gets stuck to a tree at the 28th annual substitute teachers' convention. This is a reference to Summer Belongs to You, in which Phineas and Ferb's paper airplane flies past the 27th annual substitute teacher day.

In Managing Murphy's Law, when the dancing ponies end up at Milo's house, he distracts them with music. The song is the instrumental version of Everything's Better With Perry.

In Dog Walker, Runner, Screamer, the anti-gravity device that Dakota and Cavendish find could be a reference to Phineas and Ferb's Anti-Gravity Fun Launcher. The sequence where Milo, the dogs, Cavendish and Dakota are all levitating could be a reference to the song "When You Levitate" from the same episode.

In the same episode, there is a lady who tries to cut the ribbon at a ceremony. This lady also appears at the Tiny Cowboy auction in Meatloaf Surprise with opera glasses, and she also appears at the adult party in Happy New Year! when she says "If those were my boys, they'd be so busted" and Candace asks her to "Please! Adopt me now!"

Near the beginning of Now I am a Murphy, when the family is packing up for the camping trip, Sara says "Sara out." It's likely a reference the several times in Phineas and Ferb when someone (usually Candace) says "[their name] out, peace!"

In Abducting Murphy's Law, after Doof has built his Murphy's Law tracker, and he tracks Martin on his way out of the house, he plans to offer the kids some snacks, and the scene plays out much like when Linda comes outside at the end of Phineas and Ferb episodes to offer them snacks.

Near the beginning of The Goulash Legacy, Doof sings to himself one line of the song Lunar Taste Sensation from the episode Moon Farm. It's worth noting that his voice actor, Dan Povenmire, is the disembodied reggae space voice that originally sings the song.

In Adventure Buddies, Doof complains about feeling like a third wheel between Scott and Mildred. Scott explains that the way he sees it, he and Mildred are like a bicycle, and Doof is completely separate on a unicycle. This is exactly how Candace explains her relationships with Jeremy and Stacy in The Baljeatles.

In Look at This Ship, Zack and Melissa play a guessing game, and one of the things they are guessing is "other dimension-ator." This is obviously a reference to Doof's Other Dimension-ator (and his other Other Dimension-ator) in Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the Second Dimension.

In the same episode, Cavendish makes several attempts to show the alien ship to the world, but it disappears every time. This is similar to Candace's efforts to show her mom Phineas and Ferb's "big obvious ride" in Don't Even Blink.

In Cavendish Unleashed, the developer guy who wants to put up a desert-themed amusement park mentions that there is an actual desert only 6 miles away. This is most likely the same desert that Doof and Perry traveled home from in Road to Danville.

At the end of that same episode, Cavendish says "Great googly moogly!" which happens to be Major Monogram's catchphrase.

During the training montage in The Speech and Debate League of Death and Destruction Cross Town Explosion Event, Zack says that "Country music is better than western music" and Milo says "I did not know there was a difference," referencing Doof's scheme in Bubble Boys.
