"Todd!" Charlie threw the door open, startling the two people in the room. One of them stood on a chair while the other was half-kneeling on the floor. "What are you doing?"
"Practicing." Neil explained as he got up. "He's Oberon and I'm Puck."
"Uh-huh. Sure." Charlie leaned on the doorframe. "Well, Oberon, get your ass down that chair. We have a game to win."
"Right, the game." Todd repeated in realization. "I forgot."
"I figured." Charlie replied. "I've since learned to accept the fact that I'll always be second to Neil."
"That's not true." Neil smirked at him. "You probably rank even lower than that."
"What are you talking about?" Todd jumped down from the chair, shoving the script onto Neil's hands. "I treat everyone the same way."
Neil and Charlie looked at each other.
"No. No. There's definitely a ranking and Neil's number one." Charlie said. "Everyone can see that."
"Yeah, I'm the favorite." Neil agreed, nodding.
"No, you're not." Todd argued. He looked at Charlie's disbelieving expression and insisted, "He's not!"
"I'm not?"
"No! I don't have a favorite."
"A good moral, my lord: It is not enough to speak, but to speak true." Neil read from the script before showing it to Todd. "See? Shakespeare said lying's bad."
"Shut up. Who's your favorite, then?"
"You."
Todd, who was caught off guard, stood unmoving for a significant amount of time.
"There goes my teammate." Charlie commented by the door before turning around and walking away. "Meeks! Look for another player. We got a man down."

Alessia Russo x Aussie! Arsenal! Reader
Warnings: Little bit of angst, fluff, coarse language, suggestive if you squint.
Masterlist
________________________
Alessia were a bit like Katie in the sense of your aggression — or, rather 'passion' as you put it gently — on the field.
Arsenal had a rocky start to the season, with a loss against Liverpool to being dubbed as 'second-halfsenal', as your fans and rivals alike found the comedy in your troubles. There was no technical malice behind the name, the girls would joke about it ever so often during training, but that didn't stop the hidden linger of doubt among the team. As the season proceeded, with the crucial derbies of both Chelsea and Tottenham, you started to notice how it was having a negative effect on your girlfriend.
You grew up in Melbourne, Australia, playing for your local club before being scouted by recruits when you were in High School. You joined Melbourne Victory at Seventeen, playing alongside your future Matildas teammates, Kyra and Courtney. The three of you went to school together, before graduating and parting ways. While they moved to the Sweden league, you chose to head to Bayern Munich, where you spent four years strengthening your skills and gaining wider international attention.
The move was incredibly difficult. You did not understand a word of German walking into your first day, and still struggle to communicate in the foreign language. It definitely helped when Lioness player, Georgia Stanway transferred from Manchester City, and you ended up spending a lot of time with the English girl.
Due to this connection, you had met the other Lionesses by association, one girl sticking out to you specifically.
You had properly met Alessia in a friendly match against your two National teams. It hadn't taken long for you to realise your feelings for each other, but the timing never seemed right. She was in Manchester, playing for United, and you were in Germany, both consistent in your hard work for your respective teams.
You both were called up for the World Cup squad, you playing as a regular starter in the Midfield. From your early career, you always had a deep-rooted chemistry with Kyra and Courtney, so the opportunities the three of you created set the scene for your forwards up front. It was heartbreaking losing to England in the Semi-finals, especially in a home World Cup. You remember how Georgia sat with you after the game, waiting until she knew you were okay before she went off to celebrate.
You reciprocated the kindness by watching the final, feeling upset for the Lionesses when the score did not turn out their way. The two of you wondered what the next step was for you.
You had trouble mulling over the end of your contract, knowing Georgia had just renewed hers. After the World Cup, the recognition of the public had a great turnout, and your agent was met with many expressions of interest.
When Arsenal's name popped up on that list, you knew it was a no-brainer.
You and Alessia had both transferred in the same week, Kyra a few weeks later. The blonde and you moved in together, having both no place to live and hit it off from there. Now, a few months in, you've never been happier.
"Alright girls, we can do this." You heard Kim shout from beside you. Alessia was holding your waist, fiddling with the hem of your shorts as the team huddled around each other.
"Go out and set the scene. First tackles, first corners, everything, alright?"
You were versing Chelsea, the London Derby, in a sold-out Emirates, and you could feel the nerves radiating off Kyra from in front of you. Kim was the Captain today, her Scottish accent shouting as both the starting eleven and subs hugged one another. The lead-up to this game was beyond stressful, the pressure of starting in such a critical game building on Alessia and you over the past few days. The whole ordeal was daunting, having not ever played in a derby of this significance before.
"London is Red, girls, let's go!" Katie shouted, earning the huddle to disperse as everyone took their starting positions.
You could feel the sweat compile over the creases in your hands, wiping them twice over before jogging to your place on the wing. You found yourself looking out to the crowd, waving at the group of fans chanting your name. Erin Cuthbert was quick to join your side, standing close by as the cheers grew louder in anticipation.
Alessia was upfront, watching you with adoring eyes. You offered her a tight-lipped smile, pursing your lips and blushing when she sent a toothy grin and thumbs up your way. However; the moment was short-lived as the referee was quick to blow her whistle, commencing the game.
It was apparent that Chelsea was not expecting the energy Arsenal brought to the game. Errors and miscalculated passes were being carried out left and right, the chemistry between both sides slipping beneath the heightening apprehension.
“I'm here!” You called, speeding along the wing as Katie hesitated on the other side of the pitch. The Chelsea girls had left your front wing open, crowding in the midfield, evidently oblivious to the mistake they’d produced. You heard Emma Hayes yelling to cover your end, but Katie had already seen you, crossing the ball to your end. Cuthbert was on your tail, trying hard to stub your sprint in an attempt to stuff you up.
Victoria was to your right, onside yet swarmed with about three defenders. Beth was not far behind; Chelsea defenders were swarming the box in a desperate endeavour to clear Arsenal’s attempt.
You had no other choice but to nimble the ball through Fleming’s legs and towards Vic, who helplessly maneuvered the ball through the maze of defenders before passing to Mead. Cuthbert had put her hands behind her back, using her body to shield Beth’s fake attempt at the goal. You watched with your breath hitched as Beth powered the ball to the goal, observing the swift motion of the back of the neck.
Alessia was the first to wrap your arms around you, holding you up, carrying you over to where Katie was gripping Beth for dear life.
The rest of your team celebrated around you, screaming among the thousands of people in the crowds, smiles etched on all your faces.
“You’re doing so well.” Less yelled, hoping you’d hear her praise over the booming echo of cheers circling the Emirates. She knew you heard her from the blush that spread your cheeks, making your already flushed face all the more flustered. Your girlfriend wrapped her hands around you, swaying you from side to side one more time before you patted her back and let go.
Her eyes watched your figure jog back to your spot near Cuthbert, who pushed her way into your shoulder before the whistle for the restart blew. You tried your best to ignore her antics, using your legs to propel you towards the ball.
Turns out, Chelsea didn't like what you just did.
Erin followed you up and down the pitch, tugging your shirt everywhere she went. Whenever you tried to run forward and make a chance for your team, the Scottish woman would yank you back, locking her arm around your body, keeping you glued to the sideline.
Chelsea evened the score only a couple of minutes later. The sweat dripping down your forehead was enough to tell anyone how hard you were trying. Erin wasn't the only one giving you grief; Fleming was always a few metres away, darting through the midfield easily without you to worry about.
You were finally given the ball from a cross from Victoria, who mustn't have realised how cornered you were. You hadn't left the sideline in twenty minutes now. Fleming was now to your left, running up against you with Erin’s arm holding your waist. You struggled to keep the ball at your feet, the crowd watching in delight as the three of you battled it out alone.
You had managed to dart the ball between Jessie’s legs, causing an audible reaction from the fans, but it seemed that your face was too preoccupied with meeting the grass to soak up any type of honour you were receiving.
You felt the ground against your cheek, your body falling from stubs to the foot. You groaned at the instant pain up your leg, causing you to hold your shoe and roll onto your back. The adrenaline from the game made the pang bearable, but you knew the tackle was far from clean way before the whistle had blown.
“Oh, get up. What a fucking baby.” You heard Erin say, her Scottish accent full of malice.
“I didn't know Chelsea hired my Nephew.” An Irish accent quipped nearby. “Cause all he does is throw a tantrum when he doesn't get what he wants.”
“It was clean.”
“Oh, fuck off, you slimy t—”
You didn't get to hear the rest of their dispute, too busy nursing your foot with your hands. Steph had broken the two up, ordering Katie to run back to the other side. Sam Kerr was also around, kneeling beside you amidst the strain.
“You ‘right, mate?” Your Aussie Teammate helped you up, holding out her hands and rubbing your back as you regained balance. The Skipper had been your mentor since you joined the Tillies. The older woman was an idol of yours, and you looked up to her despite the few years between you.
However, you couldn't respond to Sam in time, for she was pushed away harshly by a certain blonde, her blue eyes reeling with anger at the sight of the tackle you endured.
“Stay away from her, Kerr.” She snarled, using her arm to support your weight onto one foot. You put your hand on her chest, shooting a silent apology to Sam, who shrugged nonchalantly before sauntering off.
“Y/N, are you alright?” The referee asked the yellow card still in her hand. You knew you had the power to play it over the top, but this game was everything to you. You didn't want to be subbed off any time soon.
But your girlfriend wasn't having any of it.
“She,” Less pointed to Erin, who was standing by a regretful Fleming. “Needs to be sent off for that. She's been harassing Y/N all game. It was obviously on purpose. Did you see it? It was stubs to the—”
“Lessi, stop, it's alright. I'm fine.” You swapped glances from your girlfriend to the Ref, who was still looking at you for reassurance in regard to your physical wellness. “I’m fine.” You repeated, and the whistle was quickly blown for a free kick, and a yellow toward Cuthbert.
Alessia looked down at you cautiously, eyeing your leg and the slight weariness in your step. “Are you sure?” She asked.
When you nodded, she jogged over to her position once more, sighing at your stubbornness as you prepared for your kick.
Ilestedt’s goal only a few minutes later sent all of the girls into a frenzy. You sprinted over to the Swedish player, jumping onto her back and kissing her head, laughing as you felt the rest of your team surround you in hugs and celebrations. The screams and cheers in the stands were phenomenal. No one expected the Reds to be beating the Blues so early into the game.
Erin was hot on your tail when Caitlin punted the ball towards you. You made the sprint down the line, your Aussie teammates Steph and Caitlin both yelling out for a pass. You were about to boot it behind you, where Steph was waiting for the assist when you felt your legs give out for the second time that game. The grass met your face, the power of the fall leaving you in shambles, the ball long forgotten by the time your hand shot up to the blood running down your nose.
Steph was by your side, forgetting all about the game still in play. Alessia had gained possession of the ball, holding it in her hands by the time you had sat up, the whistling blowing when the Ref noticed the amount of red spilling down your shirt.
“Move your hand.” Steph uttered, holding your face and using her own shirt to hold your nose. “It’s not broken.” You did as you were told, your nose warm at the contact of the ground, only slightly sore. She looked up to Kim, who you knew was fuming underneath her worried gaze.
“I don't want to be subbed off.” You said, and you saw Kim nod, agreeing before storming up to the Referee, who was talking sternly to Erin.
Beside her was Alessia, with her arms crossed and eyebrows furrowed into a furious knot, you watching in horror as a yellow card was shown her way. Katie had made it just in time to take her away, gripping the girl’s shoulders and guiding her towards you.
The medics had come on to see to your nose whilst handing you another shirt to change into. They assessed the blood, which was slowly halting, and declared that you had just knocked it. You told them you didn't want to go off, and with a nod from Katie and approval from the Referee, you stood off the field patiently before you were allowed back on.
During those painstaking moments, you pondered on what Alessia had said that made her get the yellow. You knew Erin was already on thin ice, and in yesterday’s training, Jonas had said that if given the chance, Alessia was to take the penalties. You knew the English girl. She was never much of a violent person on the field, choosing to stay calm and collected rather than angsty and irate when something didn't go her way.
But in games like this, where everything was on the line, it was hard to deny the apparent tension behind her actions. When it came to you, she’d sacrifice everything. For you, she’d take a million yellows if it meant sticking up for you.
You had sprinted up near Fleming when the girls ran towards your goal. The stadium stood in anticipation, the adrenaline of Arsenal’s streak pumping through their cheers. Alessia found the ball under her feet, her shot hitting the back of the net with a swish. You couldn't hear anyone but yourself, the pain and exhaustion from the half leaving your body the very moment you wrapped your legs around Less’s waist.
The girl held you up with her hands, holding under your thighs, squishing the skin just under your arse before putting you down. You laughed at her cheeky grin, relishing the private moment between the two of you before the rest of the girls stampede their way around you.
“LESSI RUSSO!” Beth screamed, hugging the two of you as she jumped in excitement. Arsenal were beating Chelsea — the top of the ladder — three-one going into the second half. If they scored once more, it’d be the Blue’s worst defeat in five years.
The thought was the utmost motivation.
You would be lying if you said you weren't surprised to find yourself walking back on in the second half. Your nose had stopped bleeding during half-time, but the ache was still attending when you made your way to the wing.
Just before you went out, you felt familiar hands grip your waist, pushing you against the wall of your cubby. You saw Alessia’s glare eye your kit and the way she licked her lips at the sight of your flushed countenance. Her starved eyes roamed your face. Your lips met hers in a hungry kiss, knowing the rest of the girls were in their own world as they prepared for what was to come.
“You’re playing really good.” You said, holding her biceps, your finger drawing circles against her skin.
Alessia hummed, meeting your lips again, nipping your bottom lip before pulling away. “So are you, baby. ‘Making me so proud, you are.”
The compliment went straight through you. Her eyes continued to linger on you as you walked back out onto the pitch. You swallowed any pre-existing desire you had for the girl as Jessie Fleming walked by your side, offering you a curt, determined smile, then going stone-faced.
The rivalry in the second half displayed by both sides was nothing in comparison to the anger radiating in the last forty-five minutes of the London Derby.
Katie and Caitlin both got cards in two minutes of each other. Lauren James, Chelsea forward, fifteen minutes later. Illegal tackles were thrown left and right, pushing, shoving, ploughing everywhere you looked.
Emma Hayes must've thought Erin would've been sent off if been marking you for another second. Jessie was a much cleaner opponent, but as the time ticked over, the end of the match and the taste of victory near, the Canadian found haste in her decisions, making a rather late decision in tackling you near the sideline.
“Fuck, sorry.” She spoke, and while remorseful, she seemed too engulfed in the loss to speak much truth. She took her yellow graciously but made no attempt to reconcile with you. She walked over to Sam, who gave her a scornful glare, making the younger girl cower. You took your time getting up off the grass, stretching out the tension in your hamstrings before straightening back onto your feet.
On her way over to you, Alessia shot the dirtiest glare she could muster towards Fleming, not realising that many fans would catch the interaction on their phones. She made her way over to you, kissing the top of your forehead, making no endeavour to hide her public affection towards you.
Your relationship with Alessia was extremely private. You didn't want the public to know every detail of each other, and how you lived day to day in each other’s company, but that didn't mean you didn't like to tease your relationship over social media every once and a while. The Arsenal girls were all for a photo dump on Instagram, and many of the fans had caught onto your close proximity in some of the photos.
One of them in particular caused the rumours of your relationship to form. It was in Katie’s dump, a couple of weeks after your move to Arsenal. A group of girls were all sitting together in a booth, somewhere in a random London pub, but there wasn't enough room, leaving you to sit on Alessia’s lap when the photo was taken. From there, everyone assumed the two of you were dating, and while neither of you confirmed anything, it wasn't a secret you were trying hard to keep.
The game proceeded and not long after, an easy penalty was given to your side after a Chelsea defensive miscommunication. It was Alessia who took it, and the crowd made deafening sounds of joy as the Reds crowded around each other in celebration.
You were beating Chelsea 4-1.
The feeling was euphoric. Nothing could beat the sour, everlasting annoyance planted on Cuthbert’s face. Nothing could take you away from the overwhelming happiness that overtook your body when the full-time whistle blew, leaving Arsenal in glee at the massive takedown on the reigning top-of-the-ladder.
Alessia was up against you the moment you met each other’s glance. She pulled you off the ground, spinning you around in circles, making you squirm and squeal as she tickled your sides.
“You did so well, baby.” She sounded, her breath tickling your ear. You shivered, trying hard to hold in your yearning. Alessia knew how to rile you up, hands coming up to glue to your shoulders, massaging the knots that had formed from the tiresome run you just had. You groaned at the relief. Alessia smirked at the whines coming from your mouth.
“All for me, baby?”
You hid your face in her chest at that, face red at her undistinguished connotations. She laughed, holding your chin, placing a quick peck on the side of your lips, pulling you back into her afterwards.
You waited until she was soaking up the silence, a small smile decorating your sweaty face.
“Did it all for you, Lessi.”

ellen weinberg
a lot of people online like to praise her because they love her kids, but before she was mama hughes, ellen weinberg was an even more accomplished athlete than her wikipedia page can tell you. well i have way too much time on my hands and an affinity for googling things, so here is a not-so-little primer on the matriarch of hockey who has contributed far more than just her superstar children.
(basically anything not sourced is from the cammi & aj podcast i have a transcript of)
born in st. louis, she was told she couldn't play hockey because girls couldn't play on boys teams in the state of missouri, and there were no girls teams. went to bob johnson's hockey camp in aspen at age 7. moved to dallas at age 8, where she was allowed to play on the boys team. at age 12, is featured in a news clip "girl hockey player" where she says she wants to one day play professional hockey.
Tumblr media
at 15, wins nationals with her U-19 soccer team, the dallas sting, and they are sent to represent the US in the first ever FIFA-sanctioned world women’s tournament in china and proceeded to win gold against all expectations becoming the first US team to win any international soccer competition, male or female. also on this team was her best friend, future woso legend carla werden (overbeck). 1, 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
other noteworthy teammates: she played with mia hamm on her state team and was roommates with brandi chastain at her first youth national team camp for soccer.
she was recruited to lots of top schools for soccer, but chose the university of new hampshire because it was also offering hockey. she describes this as "the lack of landscape really drove my next move" because there was only 31 D1 women's soccer programs in the country at the time, and none in the state of texas.
she reached out to the women's hockey coach at unh, russ mccurdy, and told him she was being recruited for soccer but was really coming to unh because she wanted to play hockey, and he told her that it was unlikely she would make the team. so bob johnson called and asked him to give her a shot, and he said ok. he allowed her to have a one week tryout once soccer season was over, and after the first day, he asked, "what size skates do you wear?" and that was it, she was on the team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the women's soccer coach, marge anderson, was also a lacrosse player, and encouraged ellen to join the lacrosse team that needed more players. so she did. in her own words:
"I wasn't very good. I could run, but my stick skills- and I learned and I did everything, and it was great, and we went to the Final Four, but I was out at that point. So everybody always says I played three sports like, I was on the team. I was, you know, three sports at that level. I was done at that point and I stuck with soccer and hockey after my first year. But it was a really cool experience."
she may have not been very good but she did go on to coach her own kids teams in lacrosse (and potentially owen power, who is confirmed to have played lacrosse with them but it is not confirmed that it was when she coached them)
Tumblr media
(she was #21)
she was an elite skater and creative player, and "would often find herself in trouble in Durham for rushing the puck from her defensive post or trying things like a spin-o-rama".
Tumblr media
she helped UNH win 3 hockey championships in 4 years, made the all-new england team (soccer) as a freshman, was named an unh athlete of the year finalist after an injury that kept her out for an entire school year, was named to the ECAC all star team, was an ISAA senior recognition award winner, was soccer co-captain in 1990, and then captain of both the soccer and hockey teams as a senior X
Tumblr media
in april 1991, she participated in the Eastern Regional Tryouts of the US National Women's Hockey Team
"We've got it pretty good, playing defense," says senior Ellen Weinberg to fellow defenseman Weston. "There aren't as many of us to choose from. But then, when you look at who's there, they're all good!"
she then went on to pursue a graduate degree at UNH where she was an assistant coach for both soccer and hockey for two years, all the while contributing to historical hockey research to the point that she is named in the acknowledgements of Hockey: A Global History by Hardy & Holman
“It was my way of staying involved because I had nowhere to play. Then I participated in the 1992 World Championship, finished my master's degree. Then I really had nowhere to play." (google translated)
Tumblr media
The New Hampshire Vol. 83 No. 18 (Nov. 6 1992)
then in 1992, she played for the women's national team in both soccer and hockey.
Tumblr media
the soccer team didn't play in any big tournaments that year, but for hockey she went to women's worlds in tampere, finland, where she was an alternate captain. the US won silver, with ellen scoring 3 or 4 assists in 5 games (depending on which source you believe) and ellen was named to the all-star team by the media as the top player in her position.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also in 1992, she was a power skating coach at the summerland female hockey academy, teaching future star hayley wickenheiser.
there was hope that women's hockey would be a part of the 1994 olympics, but when that didn't happen, ellen went to norway anyways to grow the game.
“They were hoping women’s hockey was going to be sanctioned in the ‘94 Olympics and it wasn’t, so the Norwegian ice hockey federation had all this extra funding so they asked USA Hockey for an ambassador to go over and help grow the women’s game,” she said. “We had played in the ’92 World Championships and I was one of the older people and they offered me that opportunity to go over and work with the Norwegian ice hockey federation and what I did was I lived in Oslo. “And I went around to all the little towns and taught the girls how to play. It was awesome. Since Norway was such a small country with four million people at the time, they needed all the buses during the Olympics so everyone went on holiday, so my job stopped for three weeks.” X
ELLEN WEINBERG of Boston and the University of New Hampshire was interested in Coach TIM TAYLOR's tactics at practice. The 25-year-old Weinberg, one of America's best female players, is advising Norway's women's teams. Women's hockey becomes an Olympic sport in 1998. "They complain in Norway that I coach too long on the ice," she said. "They should see this guy, always instructing." X
she was invited to camp in lake placid for the 1994 women’s worlds (which took place every two years then), but suffered a serious knee injury that she believes is because they didn’t have proper support/training facilities
“We didn’t have a gym at the time. It was so different. We just played relying on our athletic instincts. If I got injured, it’s probably because I didn’t have the ideal support,” (google translated) X
by 1996 she was playing for the itech blaiders roller hockey team in NJ (and her then-boyfriend, jim, was coaching the new jersey rockin’ rollers) while also working in broadcasting
she had been considered a lock for the nagano olympics, despite being “old” but that “blown-out knee effectively ended her competitive career” :(
she ended up in nagano anyways as a reporter for cbs, one of her first big gigs in her media career, which i can do a part 2 on if there's interest.
and currently she’s on the USA hockey foundation board and is a player development consultant for the women’s national team

Not so much of a request as much as a short imagine I wanted to send over for you to read.
Personally I love imagining Miguel with a Y/N who's the absolute polar opposite of him. Like this girl can't stand working but loves to goof around and party. (Her dimension runs on its night life)
She's always trying to get Miguel to loosen up and tries to flirt with him whenever she gets the chance. (Which he hates. 100%. It's not like he'd miss it if she stopped. Right?)
Like 90% of her time is just spent trying to get him to laugh. Which she does with everyone but with Miguel it's different yknow. She wants him to be happy. Maybe secretly a little more than everyone else.
(Maybe she's not as happy as she lets on but hell if she'd ever let anybody find that out)
Like I could talk so long for this dynamic I have in my head of them. Big grouchy boss and silly little party girl. (Very inspired by 80's/90's and early 00's club culture. I just want her to have cute little leg warmers and glow stick bracelets that she keeps trying to sneak on Miguel's stupid big wrist AASGHH 😭💕)
It's such a cute dynamic that I can totally see happening. No lie, when I was reading this I thought of the song, "Shut up and Dance"
But I LOVE the idea of a world that's all party life. I can do a little one shot for this even if it isn't a request! I love cute shit haha
Warning: None, just fluff
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Earth-331 Silence was foreign to this loud and lively world. Not a single person knew the term, 'relax'. Every day and night was like a nightclub. The Spider of this world, oof, you were a trip. You didn't know the definition of sit down and relax. You had to make sure everyone was having a good time. You had to make sure that everyone was happy. Miguel included. He was a tough nut to crack. You first met Miguel when he crashed into your world, blinded by the bright neon disco lights. You were in the middle of dance fighting your Goblin and a Goblin from a completely different universe. "Oof, hey buddy, you okay?" You asked with a chirp, swinging over to him with a skip in your heel.
Miguel get out a soft growl as he tried to regain his footing. He couldn't believe what was happening. The lights, the music, everything was driving him crazy. His Spider DNA enhanced his senses, causing him to fumble and have a horrid reaction to his world he landed in.
"Shock me," Miguel hissed, squinting as he saw you stand before him, "Just...help me get that Goblin and I'll explain everything." He hissed.
You cheered as Miguel recruited you into his Spider Society. You were having so much fun. There was a smile upon everyone's face as you approached them. You were a party animal. Every time you were in the mood to cheer someone up, music started to play from what others called magic. No, in your world, everyone had these portable music players that could turn any room into a nightclub. You were happy knowing that you made others happy. There was just one person whom you had trouble with...but not for long. "Hi, Miguel! I heard you were stressed. Need some help?" You asked with a chirp. "No." "Oh, come on. I can help loosen you up~" You cooed, rubbing your hands against his shoulders.
Miguel was getting irritated by your presence. Why did you always have to bug him? You always had your hands on him, flirting and trying to cheer him up. Miguel wasn't sure how much more he can handle of you.
The loud music that played whenever you cheered someone up. Your silly little remarks to Miguel. The different party lights that would appear almost every time you spoke. Everything. Everything you did started to wander across his mind.
It was so oddly quiet whenever you were out on a mission. Miguel didn't want to admit it, but he had started to miss you. Lyla would appear every now and then and would tease Miguel about you.
The grump and the party girl.
You nearly squealed as Miguel finally agreed to your request. You had been begging him to let you take him on a night out. There were rules of course. It had to be in his dimension due to his sensitivity. And you had to behave. "Oh! There's a song like this in my world! C'mon Miguel, let's dance!!" You chirped. You eagerly grabbed Miguel's hands, pulling him onto the dance floor. Miguel was hesitant, but went along with you, after all, he agreed to this. The smile on your face couldn't have gotten any brighter as Miguel finally smiled. His arms were wrapped around your waist as the two of you danced along to the music. Finally. You finally got to see his smile. "Lovely," You whispered. Miguel cocked a brow, "Only for you." He hummed. You could feel your cheeks warm up towards his words. Was Miguel always this quick with his words? Either way, this gave you motivation to see him smile more.
Miguel didn't want to admit anything. He didn't want to admit that he had feelings for you. That he wanted you to be by his side. It felt almost strange to have someone so lively next to him. Almost illegal to have you.
"M-Miguel," You whimpered, entering his office.
Shocked by your sadden tone. Miguel hurried to your side. Tears were rolling down your cheeks as you cried. Miguel hushed you gently, pulling you into his embrace while Lyla appeared and informed him quietly of one of your canon events.
"H-He died! I-I couldn't protect him!" You sobbed.
Miguel frowned as he sat you on his lap, gently playing with your hair. There was no colorful background with your words, no loud music playing. It was quiet. Miguel didn't like this.
As Miguel comforted you, he began to think. This wasn't like you. Humming very quietly, Miguel began to sing for you. He would never do this for anyone else...
But you were special to him.
"M-Miguel?" You whispered, eyes sparkling as your spirit came back slowly.
"Only for you, mi amor (my love). So please, let me wipe those tears." Miguel whispered.
The Spider Society's biggest secret. You and Miguel were a couple. There were special rules that the two of you had to follow, but you didn't mind as long as you got to be with Miguel. He made you smile and visa versa. Like anyone would believe that big ol' grump could fall in love with someone as peppy and wild as you. "This stupid little-" "Ah, ah, ah~ Stress free~" You cooed, wrapping your arms around Miguel's back, "I have an idea! Let's go out tonight!!" "Very well, but I'll pick the spot." "Awe, okay!"
It was your little secret, but one you were happy to hide. After all, not every day you could snag a man like Miguel. He was one in a million.
Your one in a million.

Baldur's Gate 3 Companion!Tav Ask List by @paarthursass
Please check their List here, it's literally a top tier list
(contains major spoilers for the game, and for some dark urge runs as well)
Had to redo this, but finally I'm satisfied with the result. Here's my drow Soulknife Rogue (please oh please adapt this subclass for the game) Arnafein Rilynghym.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
General
1.Where can your Tav be recruited?  Are they first encountered on the Nautiloid, or in the Nautiloid crash region?  Or are they not recruitable until a later act?
He can be recruited not too far away from the Blighted Village area, in the forest outcropping.
He’ll be there with a pair of poorly equipped young tieflings and a group of goblins, trying to cool things down between the two and convince the goblins to leave the tieflings only to him. The player/party members might catch on some details in his facial expression that would be giving away a lie, as well as his attempts to place himself between tieflings and goblins.
As the player’s group comes closer, the player (and other companions, which is important) and Arno are connected through their tadpoles, though much more painfully than in other cases (the narrator might even comment on that). Arno would recognize in you another survivor that escaped the nautiloid and through pain would telepathically ask you to play along. After that with more demand addressing the goblins as “another True Soul came to look for them, so would they finally let them do their fucking job?” The player might choose the Deception/Persuasion route to play along with Arno, to simply attack the goblins (in which case both tieflings and Arno would help out) or attack Arno and tieflings under the guise of him “being the survivor, that Absolute cultists are looking for” (in this case tieflings would die and Arno will be captured and interrogated by Minthara).
2.Do the other companions have special comments or reactions upon recruiting your Tav?
Gale – A friendly drow! That’s a rarity in this place, as far as I can tell. Let’s hope this won’t be a double-crossing situation though.
Shadowheart – Arno seems well versed in dealing of these cultists. I just hope he won’t stick his nose in other’s thoughts – we have more than enough mind-probing as it is.
Astarion – Well that was a spectacle. I hope our newest addition won’t stop to help any stray or poor thing in need.
Wyll – It takes a lot of inner strength to stand by those in need, especially under the weight of your own troubles. Arno would be a good addition to our group.
Karlach – Well Arno seems to know some shit around here. Now we don’t need to blindly walk around in search of the bad guys place.
Lae’zel – The elf’s knowledge of this place seems useful. Can’t say the same of his handling of tadpole’s effects. We ought to be careful.
3.Does your Tav have any comments or advice when you recruit other companions?
Gale – Having a wizard around should improve our chances of survival. Though I’m sure as hell won’t be asking him about any teleportation.
Shadowheart – It’s good to have a helping cleric’s hand with us. However, the choice of name does bring a bit of ominous feel to this acquaintance.
Astarion – The whole knife play was a bit too on the nose for be, but I can understand his reaction. Let’s hope his bloody tendencies will be the problem of our enemies, and not ours.
Wyll – The Blade of Frontiers… Well, the name does sound grand, though cannot say I heard of it before.
Karlach – Karlach’s spirit sure will brighten up our company. I just hope we won’t wake up to the actual hellfire.
Lae’zel – The gith looks like a tough fighter. But don’t expect me to go on errands for her.
4. What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?
Raise:
Empathy and Compassion towards weaker or struggling.
Supporting freedom, autonomy and choices that align with his desire to break free from societal expectations.
Sharing a sarcastic sense of humor can lead to a bond with him, as he appreciates this attitude. Engaging in witty banter and humor is a plus.
Illegal activities aimed at helping others.
Lower:
Disregarding or belittling others' struggles or doubts, particularly in moments of their vulnerability, resonating with his own past of self-doubt and anxiety.
Yielding to controlling individuals or behaving subserviently in the face of authority.
Aggression towards the weak.
5. Are there any instances where your Tav can permanently leave the party, depending on player character actions?
The first instance is tied to letting Minthara join a party (murdering of tieflings would significantly lower Arno’s approval, but letting Minthara join the party would be the point of conflict, in which Arno will go a separate path).
The second instance would be tied to possible betrayal, around end of Act 2 – a group of drow agents, which would represent the house Rilynghym (Arno’s family), will ambush the party. They are tasked with bringing Arno back home, as well as extracting Githyanki prism.
Depending on the level of approval, the player can persuade Arno to go about this peacefully (understand that there was more at stake and they needed the Gith’s prism), persuade Arno to attack the spies or Arno will turn his back on the group altogether.
6. Do they have any secrets that can be revealed?  What are the prerequisites for this secret coming to light?
The Player would find out in Camp that Arno has partial amnesia, and remembers some parts of his childhood and his family, but not the last 3 months since he left home. As the adventure progresses, he’ll start to remember more and more, as well as start having a repeating blurry dream of his mother calling out to him, but he would understand any of her words.
As the game progresses, he would remember that his house (a drow house Rilynghym, that settled on the surface, in Neverwinter), that specializes in espionage and infiltration, sent their agents to infiltrate the cult of the Absolut and acquired information about some sort of artefact.  The spies disappeared in Baldur's Gate, and as Nathiira received the news, Arno (who wanted to finally prove to his mother that he is worthy of her trust and can help the house on an equal footing with everyone else) suggested that he could investigate the matter. This provoked the conflict between mother and son, which ended in Arno being put in a cell. He escaped the imprisonment and ventured to Baldur’s Gate on his own.
In Baldur's Gate, Arno found out that the spies were supposed to steal a specific artefact for their house, but they were discovered by the cultists and taken as prisoners. All but one.
The spy, named Tsabran, a loyal servant of Matron Nathiira, managed to avoid the cultists and got in touch with Arno, telling him everything that happened. He explained that the spies, were trying to steal an artefact of incredible power created by the cultists. However, their hideout was discovered, and the cultists caught all the spies except Tsabran.
The artefact was supposed to have a power of a mini-version Elderbrain, allowing its wielder to enhance telepathic influence on intelligent creatures, and even subdue large groups of creatures to their will. It had to work in the hands of those who have psionic abilities, enhancing them tenfold. (Note: the artefact can unlock the ending, where instead of someone becoming an illithid, Arno will use the artefact and his own psychic skills to suppress Elderbrain) Together, Tsabran and Arno devised a plan to steal the artefact and bring it back to Matron Nathiira. They managed to get to the room with the artefact through secret tunnels. However, before Arno could check the artefact for traps, Tsabran lifted it off the pedestal and thus activated the alarm. The two had to flee, but Arno was wounded during the escape. He hoped for help from Tsabran, but the latter left him behind, running away with the artefact. That's how the cultists captured Arno.
7. Do they have their own personal quest that spans the course of the game?  Can it take different branching paths depending on the choices the Player Character makes?
Arno’s personal quest would be focused on him slowly regaining his memories of past months, and in the process fighting the memories of emotional abuse and neglect from his mother, that led to his anxiety and feeling of never being enough. As he would regain memories he would have more and more doubts, if chasing after mother’s approval is really what he wants from life, especially if it goes against his moral code.
Player can help him find confidence in himself, support his attempts to make his own decisions in spite of what was drilled into his head for decades (and became part of his sub-conscious behavior; for example him having a sweet tooth but denying himself any sweet food due to previous prohibitions from his mother)
Alternatively, Player can insist on the notion, that Arno’s mother was right, that he wasn’t ready for any sort of adventure like this, and specifically his lack of skills, patience and knowledge were the reason of his troubles. That Arno’s mother only tried to protect him and their house, to give them a better life.
Toward the end of Act 2, MC with Arno is ambushed by members of House Rilynghym, who were sent by Nathiira to bring Arno home, as well as retrieve Gith's prism with him (when asked, the spies would answer that Nathiira found out about the prism and its influence through telepathic connection with Arno).
At that moment, Arno will remember the captured spies in Baldur's Gate and tell the newcomers that the situation has become much more important and dangerous than possessing some artefacts and gaining more power for their house.
Depending on the Player's actions and the level of approval with Arno, the situation will go in different directions:
Arno confidently tells the spies to go back home, because the existence of the cult threatens their house as well.
Arno and the Player fight the spies to keep the prism. Arno does not approve of this, but is persuaded by the Player to fight on their side.
Arno joins the spies, having more faith in his mother's judgment. He and the spies will die in the battle.
In 3rd act, as the group reaches the Baldur's Gate, during one of the nights, Arno’s mother will get in touch with him via telepathic projection – all of the companions infected with the tadpole will see and hear her as well, as part of their shared connection. She will say that she is very disappointed that he did not return with the spies when he had the opportunity.
Tumblr media
Nathiira says “I've been very patient, considering your completely stupid and irresponsible behavior. Go back home, now.” Аrno exhaled, nervously gesturing towards his mother “Can't you listen to me for once? I'm trying to explain, that what's happening in Baldur's Gate is a threat to the entire region. And our family, too.” There is a tense pause. As Nathiira looks at him with her familiar calculating look, Arno looks down, slightly lowering his head as well “Just, listen. I can't just leave, not with this... thing in my head. So I can look for Tsabran and the artifact. Show you that I can do this.” Nathiira is silent for a few moments, closely looking at her son before finally exhaling: “You won't just drop this, would you? Fine. This is your task now. The last time Tsabran sent us a message, he mentioned that he was hiding somewhere deep and wet.” Arno breathes a sigh of relief and Nathiira speaks again: “Arnafein” there is a long pause, where she considers what to say before finally settling on her choice “Don't let me down.”
The group will go in search of Tsabran in the underground part of the city.
When the group finds Tsabran, it turns out that the artifact has begun to negatively affect his mind, making him more neurotic, full of paranoia and hallucinations. Because he was not a psionist himself, the artifact could not find enough power in his mind and his brain literally began to melt from it.
At that moment, Tsabran was obsessed only with the idea that he was the one who had to deliver the artifact to Matrona and receive her recognition and gratitude. The group had fight to get the artifact. In battle with Tsabran, he’ll have control over some civilians and creatures from sewers, all while screaming about how he will prove the Matron his loyalty and usefulness. Arno will recognize some of the civilians from the 1st day they entered Baldur’s Gate.
As Arno defeats Tsabran and takes the artifact, the telepathic projection of Nathiira appears, noting that she felt the artifact’s power through their connection.
The projection of Nathiira comes closer, with fascination looking at the artifact “Incredible isn’t it? Imagine how much influence we might gain with this in our hands. No-one will ever dare to even think of harming our house ever again.” Arno shakes his head “Mother this artifact won’t bring us any good. It breaks people, strips them of their will, it’s not-” Nathiira interrupts him “It’s exactly what we need to survive, Arnafein. This will finally give us the protection we needed. Any politician, any noble, any rival of ours now can be brought under our control. They won’t be harmed, they just won’t think about harming us” Arno exclaims “It will harm them, mother, this is exactly what taking away freedom of their mind is!” Nathiira huffs and waving him away with a hand “Oh, don’t be such a child, they will be fine! It’s better than getting rid of them all-together.” After a moment, she adds, more steel in her voice “You wanted to prove yourself to me. This is your chance. Do as I say - bring us the artifact.”
Depending on Players choice, Arnafein either will agree to bring the artefact home or will say that he’ll give the artifact to the Harpers for protection.
Choice “Arnafein agreed to bring the artefact home”
Arno closed his eyes, battling with his own doubts in his head. But moments later his shoulder sagged down, and he bows his head and finally said “As you say, Matron.” Nathiira looks pleased, relaxed. “Good. I’m glad you saw reason. Now, our agents should be nearby...” Arnafein raises his head slightly, looking at his mother with confusion “What? I... I thought you sent only me.” Nathiira patiently sighs “They were here just in case, to assure that the mission was successful. Don’t think too much about it - it was still all you. And our people will know it as such.” After a pause she continues “Now, I won’t take anymore of your time, the faster the artifact will be brought here, the better. Go.” With a slight pause, Arnafein bows, and Nathiira calls for him one last time. “And Arnafein. I’m proud of you, son.” As the group exits the chamber where they battled Tsabran, the spies meet them right at the exit. One of the agents steps forward “Sir, we’ve just received the message from Matron - we’re at your service. If you’ll need our assistance in upcoming battle, you can count on us ” Arno absentmindedly nods “Good. Make sure that the artifact is delivered as fast as possible to Neverwinter” and he gives the artifact to the agents before adding with more presence “As for everything else - I will call if you are needed.”
Choice “Arnafein refused to bring the artefact back home”
Arno closed his eyes, frowning, battling with his own doubts in his head. But moments later he takes a deep breath and looks up at his mother. “I’m sorry, I won’t do this. This is not our way. I will give the artifact to Harpers and they’ll make sure no-one gets harmed anymore because of it” Nathiira looks at him for a long moment, her jaws clenched, her eyes hard and cold. “Just as I thought. You would pass on a golden opportunity to put our house out danger forever, just so you can play a hero.” She steps forward, her telepathic projection getting right in the face of Arno, before she sneers. “You are not a hero. You’re just an arrogant, naive child, who thinks he knows better than everyone else.” She continues looking at him, as Arno meets her stare with his own sudden resolution. Nathiira spits out “Well you don’t.” She takes a step back, turning away from Arnafein and adding, “We'll have a long talk about it when you get home” Arnafein let’s a moment pass, before, with deep sadness saying “No. I don’t think we will” As Nathiira stops and turns back to him, Arno raises his hand and her eyes widen in understanding and shock. Arno sliced the air with his hand and permanently severed their family telepathic connection. As the group exits the chamber where they battled Tsabran, the spies meet them right at the exit. Arno, not expecting to see them, will take a step back before asking “What- What are you doing here?” One of the agents steps forward, slightly bowing his head. “Sir. The Matron ordered us to keep an eye on you and intervene in case of imminent danger to your life” Arno dumbly looks at him, repeating his words “Keep an eye? Aha. Hahaha” He bitterly laughs, rubbing his hand over his face “she didn’t even... Of course she didn’t.” As Arno says with utter betrayal and disappointment he once again turns to bewildered agent, and says “Well, as you see I’m fine and dandy, so you can return home and report as such” The agents exchange glances, before with a doubt in a voice one of them says “Sir, we were also told to retrieve the artifact” Player can choose what to do - “Let Arno handle this” - (Deception) The artifact was destroyed by Tsabran in the battle. - (Intimidation) The artifact stays with us, want it or not. In case of failure or letting Arno handle this, Arno will say: “There was... a change of plans. Matron knows of this, so you’re in the clear. Return home, agents”
8. What do they say when the Player Character asks them to stay in camp?  How about when the Player Character asks them to come adventuring again?
Stay in camp – “You sure? I might hear the danger coming from miles away. Well, the thoughts of danger, more precise.” And after confirmation “Well, suit yourself.”
Come adventuring again – “Knew you’d come around”
9. Does your Tav have any escalating conflicts with one of the other companions, like Lae’zel and Shadowheart’s knife-fight?
No.
10. Are there any unique NPCs associated with your Tav that can show up during the course of the game?
In act 3 in Elfsong Tavern the group can meet Arno’s older sister Maliara, which would be trying to draw as little attention as possible. She’ll tell Arno that she and their uncle went behind mothers back and their uncle made a deal with Lorroakan to open a portal from Neverwinter to Baldur’s Gate and allow Maliara passage to the city. Maliara will try to persuade Arno to return home with her (depending on the previous encounter with the spies Arno’s reaction to this would differ, but he will say that he can’t return yet – not with the danger of Absolute cult behind their backs). Maliara would be gentle with her words, but also vocal about her worries for her brother, even going as far as offering her help in this whole quest, despite Arno’s own worry for her. If the Player invites her to join Camp, she’ll become a permanent addition to it, as an Artificer (trading different alchemical supplies).
Tumblr media
11. Are there any moments in the game that trigger unique dialogue for your character? (Like Gale’s anecdote about the barfight after you save the goblin prisoner)
In Moonrise Towers, while looking at some of the battle and floor plans of Shadowcursed lands, Arno will recognize them. “We’ve had this floor plans for months before the spies went missing...” “My house knew about the inner dealing of the cult. And told no-one. How many people we could have saved if we just warned, I don’t know, the Harpers or the city governments. Instead we were chasing after some stupid artifacts.”
In act 2, when meeting gnolls and other creatures mind-controlled by the other cultists, Arno will express his genuine disgust for this, saying that no-one should go through such violation of autonomy. He might recall going through the same thing, when he was still little and some slavers tried to abduct him and his sister, and how terrified he was over losing control of his body.
Story Specific
Tumblr media
1.How does your Tav advise the player character when it comes to the Dream Visitor?
“I can see the advantage we’ll have with these powers, but you always have to pay the piper. And our friend does sound like a skilled musician. Let’s just be careful with the help they are providing.”
2. How do they advise the player character on Raphael?
“One blink – and there goes your freedom in those clawed hands. Not even one story has a happy-ending when it comes to deals with the devil. I don’t think we’ll be the exception to the rule, so let’s not gamble with our lives more than we already do.”
3. How do they react to Astarion biting the Player Character?
“Huh, well that explains all those thought-wishing about having a taste…” “I have no problem with him staying, as long as he remembers his manners”
4. How do they react to the Player Character letting Abdirak whip them?
“That’s um… An interesting… View. Right”
5. How do they react to the Player Character taking their first tadpole power?
“You know, when I said “be careful but curious” I really had more emphasis on the careful part. Although, you seem alright… at least for now. Just give me some heads up next time, I might prepare the knife just in case.”
6. Will they stay with the Player Character regardless of siding with the goblins or the tieflings, or is it possible for them to leave the party permanently?
Arno will stay with Player if they side with Goblins, but he’ll strongly disapprove of this.
7. What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party?
On tiefling’s party: He’ll be staying near Mol, bouncing back and forth with her ideas regarding how to get the most profit from drunk adults (“They leave a lot of their belongings unattended, who’s to say you won’t be the one to find them and be oh-so-kind to return them for a small price for such lost-and-found services.”). The reason for that is partially due Arno wanting to be a bit far away from so many drunk people, as his head starts to be in huge pain from all of their thoughts.
On goblin’s party: He’ll be staying very far away from any possible party participants, possibly in the shade of the trees, closed off and gloomy. When approached, he’ll say that he hopes the lives of all those innocents were worth this “blast of a party” and that this arrangement better pay off with finding the cure. If questioned by the Player further, Arno would admit that there is someone back home who came up in his memories – two small tiefling kids with dark skin, his sister’s kids. He’ll lament that he can’t stop imagining all those slayed kids in the grove as his nephews.
8. Do they have comments on who the Player Character chooses to spend the night with?
Gale – I see you have your hands full of our local wizard. I’m sure you’ll sleep soundly after his lectures.
Shadowheart – Hopefully we won’t find your cold and lifeless body somewhere in the ditch tomorrow. Jokes aside – do have a wonderful night, I’m sure Shadowheart will leave her poisons for more desirable targets.
Astarion – Astarion is… A spicy choice. I honestly hope I will be far enough to enjoy a quiet night without playing a witness to any… lewd thoughts. Or bloody ones, pick your poison.
Wyll – Seems like our local monster hunter already took your attention.
Karlach – Well someone’s in for a warm night. I just hope you’ll be responsible and all of that stuff and won’t burn our camp in flames of accidental passion.
Lae’zel – You sure do have interesting taste in company. Hopefully, we’ll see you in one piece tomorrow – otherwise, don’t expect me trying to avenge you.
9. Do they have unique dialogue if the Player Character lets them die when they steal the Blood of Lathander?
-
10. How do they react if the PC licks the dead spider in the Gauntlet of Shar?
1st time. No. No-no-no, stop thinking that, stop.
2nd time. Oh for gods sake… Is it only the “Underdark knowledge” to not lick the damn spiders?
11. What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown?
1st time “Ha-ha, what a wonderful idea (telepathically “don’t you fucking dare”)”
2nd time “Right, on stage. Dreamed of this all my life (telepathically “you better sleep with your eyes open from now on”)”
12. Is it possible for your Tav to be kidnapped and replaced by Orin?  How is Orin's deception revealed?
-
13. How do they react to the PC either allowing Astarion to ascend or convincing him to spare the 7000 spawn?
Astarion ascends – “So… He did it. Looks quite pleased too. I don’t know why, but it makes so … angry. He did break from his Masters control, found his ultimate freedom but it all feels so wrong… I just hope this finally brought him the life he desired”
Astarion remains a spawn and spares the 7000 spawn – “I don’t think I saw Astarion that sincerely happy and relaxed, like, ever. It suits him. Do you think he would appreciate congratulations? Or am I “biting off” too much with it? Oh yes, that one is perfect for teasing.”
14. How does Tav react to the PC becoming a mind flayer?  Can they offer to become one themselves?  Does their reaction change if they’re romanced?
If not romanced – Arno would be saddened, but thankful towards the Player, accepting this as a necessary sacrifice.
If romanced – still saddened, but determined that he’ll stay by your side no matter what, as you were there for him, and he’ll do the same for you.
He will not offer to become a mindflayer.
15. How do they react when the Dark Urge first reveals their amnesia and murderous thoughts to them?
“Huh. Well I can calm you down a bit, as amnesia seems to be something the two of us share. Can’t say the same about a bit of… murder? Anyway, I’m sure there will be plenty of enemies to release your murderous tendencies on.”
16. How do they react to the Dark Urge killing Alfira?
“Now. I don’t even need to be a mind reader to figure out what happened. Another question is why? And you better start explaining now.”
After explanation.
“Well. Let’s pretend we’re friends again – but from further distance.”
17. If romanced, how do they react to the Dark Urge trying to kill them in Act 2?
When woken up – “Hm? Someone’s in mood for a cuddle?” “Although I do sense a bit more tension in you, than usual, love. Are you alright?”
After confessing to what’s happening – “Oh dear, I knew we should have tried reading your memories… Hey, look at me, it will be alright. Whatever it is, you’re so much stronger”
Trying to help the bounded Player “Focus, dear, listen to my voice – (telepathically) “you can overcome this. I won’t let you fall””
“Save the gratitude and focus. I’ll have your back no matter what.”
Romance
1.Is your Tav a romanceable character?  Are there any specific requirements to romancing them?
Yes.
2. Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough?
Arno needs to be flirted with to start a romance.
3. Are they a polyamorous or a monogamous option?
Can go Poly
4. Do they have a special romance scene at the tiefling/goblin party?
Yes (note: romance scene would be only on tiefling party). Arno would ask the Player to join him after party for “little rendezvous”. After everyone goes to sleep, they’ll meet on deserted part of the river shore, where Arno prepared a small place for them with blanket, wine remains and some light food. As Player comes closer to Arno, who is using his much more controlled than before telekinesis to skipping stones across the water, Arno would turn to them:
“Much quieter here, isn’t it?”. He’ll throw another stone without his telekinesis.
Player either can
Try throwing a stone themselves (success / fail) – “You’re full of hidden talents / Not as easy as fighting, yeah?”
Comment that they preferred the lively atmosphere of the party – “Oh nooo, we have a party-goer among us. Horrific.”
Simply agree with Arno. – “A kindred spirit”
Afterwards Arno invites them to sit. As they sit, Arno starts talking:
“I “borrowed” some wine from Mol – thought I’d indulge myself, but then thought better of it. Don’t want to create another telepathic mess with so many drunk bodies around.”
Player could try to persuade Arno to share a drink with them, drink themselves or ask about him if that was his reason to stay away from the party (“Well yes and no. It’s good to be part of celebration, but I generally enjoy not being in the spotlight”)
Arno’ll continue:
“When I found this place, I remembered how when I would be overwhelmed I would leave our family house and spend some time near water, just skipping stones. Helped me focus quite a bit. Silly, but I thought I’d help me remember something from past months. Some name, or a place or… something. But there is nothing”
Player can
Ask them about what they actually remember - (and Arno will suggest to share images from his past, where he stays in large room, near a table covered in maps and plans, listening to some women (his mother) giving orders regarding something), and afterwards comment - “Huh. Not as painful this time”
Reassure them it will come back with time - “Perhaps. Never been good with waiting, but I suppose I don’t have a choice”
Say they might never come back. - “True. Can’t say it brings me any comfort”
“I don’t know what will awaits us in the future. But right now, I’m glad to have “this” in my memories.” And then he would hastily add “I mean, this, your general company. And others of course”
Player say to shut up and enjoy the moment, or that the sentiment is mutual, in which case Arno will nervously laugh, saying “Yup, ok, good, I’m shutting up”
After which they’ll spent the quiet night observing the river water.
5. Does the romance have different branching paths, or just one route to take?
There are a few different paths, depending on how his personal quest will progress.
6. How do they react to the player character breaking up with them, or choosing another character over them?
He’ll let a small “Oh” and take a step back, as if slapped, lost for words for a couple of seconds. After which, he’ll try to start talking, with a bit of cheer to his tone at the beginning “Well that was…expected. Though I thought we had more time.” After a pause “Can I ask if there was any specific reason?”
As Player confirms, Arno will say “Well. I will cherish our memories together all the same. Thank you, for giving it to me”.
7. What questions can Zethino ask the PC about Tav in the Love Test?
What brings Arno the most comfort?
What future does he see for himself?
What brings his heart the most pain?
8. If they’re poly, do they have a reaction to the PC engaging in a relationship with Halsin?
“Well that’s definitely one of the times when I’m glad I wasn’t snooping around in someone’s thoughts.” He’ll laugh, but with some discomfort and turn his sight downwards. “I mean, if this is really something you’re interested in…  Halsin is definitely a catch, with all that gigantic wall of muscle and natures passion. Can’t judge you for desiring that.” And after a pause. “Although I must ask – does it have anything to do with us?... with me, more specifically? Did I do… or didn’t do something?” After assurance from Player that everything was alright. “Ok, ok, good to hear” “Well, in that case go right ahead. Just please return to me in one piece after all that throwing around and riding and … Ok I’m shutting up.”
9. How do they react if the PC has sex with Mizora? The Emperor?  Haarlep?
Mizora – carefully curious, might ask to share the memories with him via link.
The Emperor – disgusted, when he tries to connect with you telepathically he winces and says “let’s just never speak of it. Never”
Haarlep – Arno would check up on Player, ask is they are alright and if they just need silent company and support – he’ll be there for them.
10. Will they join in with the PC and the Drow Twins, or no?
No. Arno will be feeling very uncomfortable in the brothel, due to remembering that his mother had to work in a brothel in Amn in the past just to provide him and his sister with some roof over their heads, and was treated poorly by the customers.
11. What are Tav’s plans for the future?  Do they propose to the PC, or is marriage not something they’re interested in?
Depending on how his personal quest developed, Arno would:
Travel back to Neverwinter to become a spy on a permanent basis, always under his mother's control (no matter how many unacceptable things he had to do), helping her take direct control of minds of the nobility and small gangs of the Neverwinter region.
Travel back to Neverwinter and agree with his mother’s plan for him to settle down for a quiet, though unhappy, aristocratic life. He’ll become the public face of the house Rilynghym, but will always feel out of place.
Travel the world and build his own name by helping those in need and captivity.
Stay in Baldur's Gate, help rebuild the city and become the city's protector.
Organize his own web of spies that investigated and sabotaged authoritarian regimes and tyrants.
12. Free space! Share anything from your companion!Tav au!
Tumblr media
Arno has nearly perfect visual memory, that helped him memories many maps and images (such as his family tattoos, that he tattooed his skin with after leaving home)
He’ll occasionally would lose control of his psychic powers (that are going sideways due to tadpoles influence) when heavily focusing on something which would lead to him extending his telepathy on others and accidentally sharing his thought with them, or start telekinetically levitate things or even small/medium creatures around him.
In 2nd scene of the romance he’ll suggest to the Player to use their psychic connection and would strengthen it to the point, where they both would clearly feel each other’s emotions and touches as if they were their own.
He would joke to hide his nervousness or uncertainty.
During conversation with MC, Arno will recall good moments from his childhood. How he was raised most of the time by his older sister Maliara and sometimes by his uncle (a psychic wizard). He will recall how, as a child, when all the adults would leave them and go out to find them food/any money, Arno and Malia would sit on the roofs of houses together, watching the sunrise or sunset and getting used to the burning sensation it left on their eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If questioned, Arno will tell about his family, how all of them are psionists, with special gifts in telepathy and telekinesis.  He’ll tell about his uncle, a Neverwinter wizard who could raise a whole house with only his thought. His sister, who is a talented artificer, working on different kinds of living blobs and explosive concoctions. And about his mother, who learned how to influence others and even bend them to her will, though temporarily.
Arno tells there were very little privacy in their house, as their mother wanted to know everything that was going on. If the MC says that’s messed up, he’ll say “Yeah? I never really thought about it that way, I mean - it was typical for us. We kinda were used to it.” He’ll apologize for snooping in others thoughts, as it comes easier to him than to others. Growing up in a household where your every thought was scrutinized and corrected by his mother did give him an impression, that it was alright with everyone else.
If questioned, Arno will tell that he actually has a sweet tooth, but he was forbidden to eat any sweets or sweet fruits at home. He’ll jokingly recall one scene from his childhood:
"I was really upset over some argument with my mom and as always, when I was like this, my sister Malia, came around and brought a whole basket of peaches. I have no idea where she found them, but we spent the whole evening munching on them until we were sick. Then mom returned home, and we kinda missed that. So when we heard her going upstairs to our room, we panicked and hid al peach pits in the plant pot we had in the room.” He laughs. “It took my mom years, before she noticed a peach tree in the room. She was really pissed.”
Despite his difficult and emotionally charged relationships with mother, he really cares for her and genuinely loves her, his older sister and uncle, feeling deep connection to them, that extends even over their telepathic abilities. Arno often finds it difficult to go directly against someone's opinion and generally tries to please others (unless it is in strong conflict with his moral principles of freedom and helping others). He often doubts if his own decisions, but is sincerely grateful when asked about his opinion or help.
The final scene for their personal quest, depending on the outcomes:
If Arno declined to bring artefact home:
Arnafein is sitting on the roof of the inn. The sky is slowly brightening, preparing for the dawn. MC comes closer behind him, and Arno slightly turns his head to their side, nodding his head towards free space near him with a small smile. MC sits; there is a moment of silence.
Player:
*Stay silent.* - Arno sighs "I thought this would be easier..."
"Are you alright?" - Arno "Yes. Just been thinking."
"Cozy place" - Arno smiles "Good for clearing head after messy day"
Arno continues "I breathe more freely than I did in decades. Actually feel like I can go anywhere and there won't be even a fleeting feeling of a leash around my throat. I'm happy." He pauses, his smile turning sour. "I just hoped mom would be happy for me too."
Player:
"Maybe she'll come around" - Arno "You sound like Malia. Maybe you both are right."
"She made her choice, you made yours" - Arno "True. I suppose I wasn't expecting the consequences of my choice to sting so much."
"Seems like she only wanted to control you" - Arno "I think there was love too. Just, her own version of it."
"It's just. We had bad days. But we had good too. I hoped... that good ones mattered more. That deep down she trusted me and was happy for me to find my own path. But she never planned to, has she?"
Player:
"I'm sorry" - Arno "Don't be. You showed me there is more to life than chasing after someone's approval."
*Hug him* - Arno let’s himself be embraces "Thank you. For everything."
"She might have want to, but was too afraid to lose you" - Arno "Perhaps. But I can't sit and wait for her understanding anymore"
"I found my path. With my choices. And my damned consequences."
(If romanced)
He turns to MC, laying hand on their hand.
"There will be bad days. But there will be good days too. And I hope I'll meet them with you - with all of the terrible choices and consequences that entails."
Player:
"Terrible choices, huh?" - Arno smiles "Absolutely wicked"
"Likewise" - Arno smiles "Good to hear we're on the same page"
He kisses the MC, laying hand on their cheek. Kiss will be meek at first, turning more passionate by the second, before they break from each other, grasping for air. Both brightly smiling, and gently grasping each others hand.
"Maybe that's a bit too early to say" - Arno "Well, we have all the time in the world to think on it. And make our own, considered choices."
And as so, the sun starts to rise, basking them in the dawn light.
If Arno agreed to give artefact to agents and bring to mother:
Arno sits on the bench in the outdoor alcove, shielded from the night and people. As MC comes closer they can see, that Arno uses his psionic powers to fully control rats before him.
Arno absentmindedly says "These ones easy to control. It won't be as easy with smarter creatures..."
Player:
"With more time you’ll get a hand of it." - Arno wryly smiled "Yeah, practice is the base of mastery."
"You ok with bending creatures to your will now?" - Arno "My mother wants me to. She thinks it will be useful, back at home."
"You seem troubled." - Arno "This... Is not the most pleasant thing for me. But I’ll get used to it."
"We have a saying back at home... Ilharess zhaun alurl. Matron knows best. For so long I've been trying to get her approval, to make her see me as an adult, not a child. Yet I continued to behave like one."
He makes the rats stand still, in attention. "But I know better now. I know to trust in my mother's judgment."
Player:
"And you'll be content with that?" - Arno "I have to. I will be."
"She seems to know what she's doing" - Arno "She always did, I was just too stubborn to see that myself."
"And what if she'll be wrong?" - Arno "No-one is perfect. But to survive, one needs to trust and obey their leader."
"Ahh look at me, overthinking stuff again."
He let's go of the rats, making then scatter around. "I didn't actually want to... burden you with my stupid troubles."
Player:
"It wasn't an issue at all." - Arno "But it was. It wasn't your problem to solve."
"Yeah, too late for that." - Arno laughs "True, and yet..."
"You were quite whiny sometimes." - Arno "And I apologize for that, as I’ve said it wasn’t your troubles to deal with, so I’ve been unfair."
"What I'm trying to say is... Thank you. To be of use to my house and mother. To be worthy of being her son. I have it - all thanks to you."
(if romanced) He'll lean his head against the MC, trying to kiss them but then will flinch and nervously laugh.
"Well, ok, she, uh... Seems like that will have to wait for later times."
Player:
"Is your mother still in connection with you?" - Arno "Comes with growing up in family of telepaths."
"Wait, what, who?" - Arno "My mother. Still checking in on me and not really approving something... intimate. Ruins the mood a bit."
"Well that's awkward..." - Arno nervously laughs "Yeah, you tell me"
"We can just. Stay here then. Together."
And they stay sitting there in the night.

Regarding this post I made earlier examining Geeta's antics in Paldea.
In Defense of Geeta
I feel like Geeta absolutely was written to be the shitty boss she is intentionally. There's too many situations where attention is drawn to her bad habits, either as them being directly pointed out or indirectly referenced. But what I really hope the case ends up being is that she's not at all a villain. Pokemon has gone the route of the suspicious CEO-type character being the "twist villain nobody could have seen coming!" for several games now. It's getting pretty old and I feel like it would be a weak direction for S/V to take.
Interestingly enough, one actually can look at all of Geeta's actions and not really see anything nefarious about them. Discussion after the jump for the sake of spoilers and wall'o'text.
It's very easy to look at Geeta and think she's a Bad Guy, given her strange behavior and all the negative attention she gets among the fandom. I'm certainly not innocent of seeing her in a less than endearing light, given my prior post. But a lot of that view does come from real world parallels and comparing the game's presentation to past Pokemon games in which nobody ever says the slightest criticism of the Champion, which may not necessarily be fair.
One of the biggest justifications Players have to indicate Geeta is bad is the way she meddles with the Gym Leaders and how corporate she's made the League. I pointed that out myself. But to flip it around... maybe she behaves that way because it's what the Gym Leaders need?
We constantly see Geeta inserting herself into events throughout the game. She shows up at the Academy, pops up at Gyms seemingly at random, and is always talking about how she has other pressing business that pulls her away from lingering too long. The only way she gets time to participate in casual encounters is when others (usually Nemona or the Player, if not both) take some of her workload off her plate. While I criticized the way Geeta had apparently deeply intertwined the Pokemon League, the Academy, and the Paldean economy itself, it does stand to reason doing so puts a ton of work on her having to maintain it. That's her own doing though, so it's a case of her getting what she signed up for and she never seems to shy away from it despite her habit of recruiting others to help.
The Gym Leaders, though? While they do remark about Geeta meddling with them, giving frequent reviews, and otherwise sticking her nose into their business, they've also shown that they're all pretty flaky. Rather, they're a total mess both individually and collectively. It's possible that the reason Geeta is constantly keeping an eye on them is because they need that in order to fit the direction Geeta is trying to guide the League in.
When we meet each of the Gym Leaders both in our first encounter and in the rematch post-game, we learn a lot about their behaviors through casual exposure. All of the Gym Leaders have a job besides running a Gym and, with the exception of Grusha, all of them show that running the Gym is by no means their top priority. Nor are any of them especially reliable when it comes to managing their Gyms. Based on past games, we're accustomed to Gym Leaders taking a large amount of pride in their position and holding it in esteem even when they also had other simultaneous jobs. We've seen Gym Leaders and Elite Four who were also artists, performers, athletes, CEOs, and such before. That's not the case with Paldea though; to these Gym Leaders, it's just a job and not necessarily one they put a lot of personal investment into compared to their actual passions/careers. It's mentioned that Geeta "strong-armed them" into taking on the role, which can be read that she went out of her way to convince strong, capable Trainers to become Gym Leaders for the sake of Paldea and because she saw the potential they held but weren't utilizing.
Katy flat-out forgot that she was under review and only appeared for the rematch by pure coincidence because she just so happened to visit that day. When we first meet Kofu, he and his assistant are both a totally scatterbrained mess. Iono only bothers with being a Gym Leader because it gets her viewership for her streamer career; if something else better came along, she'd surely jump for it immediately. Brassius is very upfront about his artistic passions being the number one thing in his life and openly abandons his responsibilities as a Gym Leader to pursue them during the rematch. Tulip's modeling career keeps her busy and she only has just enough time to show up for a brief match before immediately leaving to get back to her work. Ryme is more focused on her music career and wasn't even the original Gym Leader; that position belonged to her sister, Professor Tyme, who left the role to become a teacher. Larry, despite being the most vocal about his dislike of Geeta's habits, is also the most distracted as he has three simultaneous jobs and constantly works overtime. Finally, Grusha doesn't have any job besides being a Gym Leader, but that's only due to an injury that has made it impossible for him to pursue his original passion. That same injury has likewise cost him his motivation and drive to improve; he's only hanging onto his role as Gym Leader because he doesn't think he has anything else going for him now.
With all that in mind, it makes sense a rigid sort like Geeta would want to keep a close watch and short leash on all these unreliable personalities, doesn't it? She has to keep tabs on them because they risk failing the various Trainers who hope to challenge them otherwise, along with squandering their own potential. Geeta is always very open about her desire to foster powerful Trainers out of Paldea, if nothing else. After the rematch, all the Gym Leaders express a level of understanding and even appreciation toward Geeta for what she's done for them. Grusha and Larry stand out in particular, as they both confess that her meddling has helped motivate them to go beyond what they've settled into. Where Larry mentions that Geeta will dock his pay if he wastes time, he also mentions that she insists he stop overworking himself with overtime hours. So it's possible she's simultaneously trying to keep him focused without letting him overdo it as well.
When it comes to how corporate Geeta has made the League, that's not technically fair to say either. It's an easy shorthand but not entirely accurate. The goal of corporations is to make profit no matter what, but that's not really Geeta's motivation. She's not looking to get rich or powerful, but to rally as many genuinely powerful and talented Trainers up within Paldea as she can. That, in and of itself, isn't at all a bad thing and is commonly shared among all regions that have a League. While I criticize League Points as being company scrip, it does supply not just Trainers but all citizens of Paldea with an alternative way of funding themselves. This would include the Gym Leaders; despite common remarks (which I have made myself) about Geeta not paying the Gym Leaders a living wage, it's entirely possible they do indeed make plenty to thrive on and just have their non-Gym Leader job because that's their true passion that they want to put their effort into. Be it cash or League Points, they do have a salary. Larry himself mentions it outright, while Grusha and Brassius don't seem to be in any financial straits despite their unstable working conditions outside the Gyms. When it comes to the region's economy as a whole, subsidizing major commercial chains throughout the region just to make food and supplies more accessible can't be cheap; when you sell goods to the PokeMart for cash, you only get a fraction of the total value, but get significantly more (usually double) the value in League Points. Geeta's overall emphasis doesn't seem to be shaping the League and its sphere of influence within Paldea to make herself wealthy or powerful, but rather to make the whole affair as plainly efficient and self-sustaining as possible. In that regard, she's done a fantastic job.
When all is said and done, I genuinely hope Geeta isn't a villain but simply a boss with lofty visions, exacting demands, and absolutely terrible interpersonal skills. I feel like she'd be a lot more interesting that way in that she'd be a genuinely flawed person without her issues just being dismissed as "because she's the Bad Guy".

I just started to think about something now that I've officially finished the game...
Who else dies from your allies? I mean, unless you summon them during the last boss fight and they fall, then of course, they can, but... no other ally dies in a way you can't prevent it.
Except Gortash.
You can persuade others not to do something stupid and foolish. You can manipulate the circumstances NOT to allow them to be near the threat with you. Halsin asks you to get rid of the goblin leaders? You can recruit him - or you can tell him to stay behind to keep him out of trouble. Jaheira is a bit weak at the time you're about to descend at Moonrise Towers? Gently persuade her to stay back.
But then there's this stubborn motherfucker who sticks with you from the moment you defeat Orin, and he doesn't give you one single fucking chance to tell him to stay in Wyrm's Rock Fortress, uncork a wine, read a book and wait out the shit that's about to go down. Because "we rule as one", and he truly believes in that.
And I do understand. He goes with us because he wants to handle this with us. Together. But he could've lived. He could've been given a chance. Perhaps a 25 Persuasion check to convince him to give you his stone, then perhaps join you in the battle where his chances of survival is in the player's hands.
But, I remind myself... he was never given a chance about his future. He never had a choice concerning his fate. He never had anyone who'd tell him, "No, let me handle this, you stay behind and stay safe."
In the entire game, Gortash is the one and only ally you can not save.
Honestly. After all the shit we've been through for him, after all the shit HE'D been through in his entire fucking life, this is really not fair.

The draft was over and you were preparing to celebrate with the party that was being hosted for all the new players. You couldn’t wait to celebrate with your brothers, but you couldn’t help but think about all the attractive men you watched after your brother. You quickly changed into one of the dresses you packed, a more casual one. You were putting makeup on when a knock startled you causing a slight smudge on your lipstick.
“Hurry up Y/N, you’re taking so long,” your twin brother groaned.
“Adam I’m in the middle of something, go away,” you yelled back.
“Other people have to use the bathroom too,” your other brother Luca yelled. You rolled your eyes and grabbed a tissue to wipe off your makeup to fix it.
“Fine come in, I’m done changing anyway,” you opened the door for them. The two boys stepped in.
“Woah sis, fancy,” Luca teased.
“This is nothing, you saw what I wore at the draft,” you were only wearing a sundress compared to the formal tight dress you had on the night of the draft.
“Yeah yeah okay, still enough to win over one of the guys,” Adam rolled his eyes.
“I’m just you in a dress, calm down,” you snapped.
“She has a point, same face,” Luca shrugged.
“I have to protect my twin, just stick with me or Luca at the party got it,” he said firmly.
“Okay, whatever Adam,” you flashed a fake smile. You fixed your lipstick then left your two brothers in the bathroom. They shut the door behind you after you left, and you listened to their muffled conversation through the door.
“You know how she is, she will somehow get into trouble with one of the guys,” Adam scolded Luca.
“Dude no she won’t, you know Y/N better than anyone, why are you like this?”
“I’m not ready to leave you two in Michigan, I won’t be there with my best friend as she goes through college, I had this whole plan before I got recruited to be drafted, I don’t know it just all felt so fast the other night.” That was the first time you heard Adam explain his emotions to Luca, if he was having a problem he’d always tell you, you were his comforter and built-in best friend. Adam’s words tugged on your heartstrings, you swallowed deeply then looked at yourself in the mirror, you internally agreed you would stick with him tonight, no boys unless they approached you.
The two walked out of the bathroom joining you back in the “kid’s room”. The three of you walked out heading to the party. You kept the room key in your purse considering your parents trusted you the most. The three of you passed the time on your walk making fun of each other and laughing until you got to the venue.
“So this is an NHL party?” Adam said as the three of you walked in.
“Not too bad,” you smiled elbowing your brother, “sweet deal.” The three of you worked your way into the crowd. You watched Luca and Adam quickly find Gavin leaving you standing behind them just listening to the conversation. You looked around and saw everyone was kind of in their own little bubbles. You got bored and went to go sit down, Luca followed you leaving Adam occupied with Gavin.
“I heard you guys in the bathroom,” you said to Luca.
“So you know he loves you,” he said.
“Yeah idiot, and I love him too, I don’t want him to leave either, but it’s part of his life now, we are both growing up, so can he just let me go?” you asked Luca.
“You know he will never do that, you guys have been together almost every day of your lives, I’ll talk to him okay, but his protection is out of love,” he smiled.
“I know,” you looked up and saw Adam walking over to you guys. Luca nodded as a cue for you to stand up and leave so he could talk to Adam.
“Love you, bro,” you said to Adam as you quickly walked past.
“Yeah you too, hey wait where are you going?” he asked. You didn’t answer because Luca already sat him down. You began to walk through the crowd where you found Gavin. You smiled and waved said a quick hello then kept moving. You were making your way to get some water when you bumped into someone.
“I’m so sorry,” the boy said.
“Hey it’s okay no worries,” you smiled as your eyes met his. You felt your face heating as you continued eye contact because he was adorable.
“I’m Will, Will Smith,” he held out his hand.
“Oh so you’re the one who played the fresh prince of Bel-Air as you went up,” you said.
“Yup, that’s me,” he laughed.
“I’m Y/N Fantilli, Adam is my twin,”
“Yeah you two look similar,” he smiled, after a pause he spoke again, “So where’s your brother?”
“Oh he and Luca are both on the couch over there, definitely watching me,” you blushed, “well watching us.” You turned and looked at them, Adam with his arms crossed, Luca smiling and waving, grabbing Adam’s arm trying to get him to wave. You and Will both waved back.
“Adam doesn’t look too happy you’re with me so I’m gonna go,” Will began.
“Wait, don’t go, I have no one to hang out with besides them and Luca is trying to convince Adam to let me be independent, please stay,” you begged.
“I don’t want to upset your brother,”
“He will be fine.” You turned and looked at them again, they were standing up approaching you. Will remained in place standing with you as your two brothers made their way over.
“Well well well Y/N, what do we have here?” Adam still arms crossed.
“You’re so annoying stop it, and this is Will, Will Smith,” you said nervously.
“Hey, nice to meet you guys,” he held out his hand. Luca shook it, Adam was hesitant but the glare Luca shot him forced him to loosen up.
“You too,” your brothers said in unison.
“Can you excuse us for a second,” Adam said grabbing your arm.
“Sure, I’ll be here,” Will shrugged. Adam dragged you away, Luca following quickly behind.
“What the hell Adam,” you scolded him. He stood there silent.
“Adam,” Luca said. Your twin sighed and began to talk.
“Nice guy, really is, but,” he stopped.
“But what Adam hmm,” you said annoyed.
“I don’t know, look it’s my job to protect you sis okay?”
“From someone who’s harmless?” you asked confused.
“You just met you don’t know him that well,”
“You just met him too,” your other brother chimed in.
“Stay out of it Luca, my point is I just wanted to say be careful and have fun,” Adam put his hand on your shoulder, and his stern look turned into a smile. You walked away with a smile on your face back to where Will was standing.
“I’m back,” you said.
“Great, cause it was getting kind of lonely,”
“In a crowded area like this?” you laughed.
“Hey I don’t know, you said to stay with you so I am, besides I don’t do super well in crowds” he shrugged his shoulders. The two of you continued talking as you made your way through the crowd to a more open area with fewer people. You continued getting to know each other, and you thought he was amazing. He was funny, sweet, and listened to what you had to say.
“You did what?” he laughed.
“Oh trust me, Adam and Luca don’t make it easy being the only girl,” you rolled your eyes and laughed.
“Y/N I hope this isn’t too soon or anything, but I’ve really enjoyed talking to you, can I get your number or something?”
“Oh yeah sure, I was actually gonna ask you the same,” you smiled handing him your phone.
“That’s a relief, I was nervous to ask such a pretty girl for her number,” he blushed. Pretty. Yup, you heard him right, he called you a pretty girl. Instantly at that word you were red, you quickly typed your number into his phone and handed it back. He looked up and saw you blushing, he was too.
“You think I’m pretty?” you asked.
“Yeah, I mean, you are pretty, and I hope your brothers don’t kill me for saying that,” he said nervously.
“Oh they’re fine, and besides they should be happy I’m happy to be talking to a cute boy the whole night,” you grinned.
“You called me cute,” he said with a huge smile.
“You’re cute Will Smith, adorable even,” you made his smile grow bigger. You checked the time and saw it was getting late, and right on time, your brothers approached you saying you wanted to leave. The butterflies in your stomach grew ecstatic, you didn’t know how things would go with Will after you left, so you had to act fast. Out of pure impulse, you kissed him on the cheek.
“Bye Will,” you said beginning to walk away, he grabbed your hand to stop you, pulling you back to him. Your face was practically touching his, if you moved any closer they would be touching. You felt lips press yours as you closed your eyes, they broke apart as you opened them.
“Goodbye Y/N Fantilli, I’ll text you,” he smiled. Both of your brothers stood in shock as you joined them. The three of you walked back to the hotel in silence.
“Well that was a fun party,” Luca finally said.
“Yup,” you and Adam said in unison with very different tones.
“I trust you Y/N, you’ll be fine,” he said pulling you under his shoulder as you walked.
“Really Adam?” you said still in the loose headlock he put you in.
“Definitely.” You felt your phone in your purse it was Will. You waited until you got to your room to open the text because you knew your brothers would want to know. The three of you sat on Luca and Adam’s shared bed and opened the message.
“Y/N, thanks for making this weekend worth all the chaos, hopefully, I can see you again soon ☺️”
“Awww,” the three of you said in unison.
“What’s wrong with us?” Luca laughed.
“Well answer Y/N, don’t leave him waiting any longer.”
“Relax Adam, now you’re so supportive,” you rolled your eyes, and began to type a response.“I hope so too, you miss my pretty face already don’t you 🤭” you sent the message flopping back on the bed waiting for what possible reaction you would get that would leave you smiling the rest of the night.

Baldur's Gate 3 Companion!Tav Ask List
What if your Tav was a recruitable companion, instead of the main character? (contains major spoilers for the game, and for some dark urge runs as well)
General
Where can your Tav be recruited?  Are they first encountered on the Nautiloid, or in the Nautiloid crash region?  Or are they not recruitable until a later act?
afhiri would be recruited in the crashed nautiloid near the dying mindflayer!! you'd find her looking around at the floor for her flute, they'd be rushing about back and fourth but not actually grabbing at or moving things around to see if it's under anything - just lots of staring and hoping it'll suddenly pop out, they'd also be yelling out "where are you? where did you go?!" "pspspspsp come out!!!" and other various things fdlfdkgdg yes yes there's a mindflayer about but there's more IMPORTANT THINGS .. when recruiting them you can be like "so that mindflayer over there" and afhiri will let you know they hadn't even noticed it <3
Do the other companions have special comments or reactions upon recruiting your Tav?
scene.. afhiri is still obsessively looking for her flute. its almost like u didnt just recruit them
gale: "well they're certainly.. enthusiastic. we best keep an eye on them else we may lose them... hm." accepting he's about to become a babysitter
shadowheart: "are you sure it's wise to bring them along? they'll be more of a hinderance than a help." literally does not want afhiri here
astarion: "wonderful, you've recruited an actual clown! at least we'll have some on road entertainment." completely sarcastic btw... also doesn't want afhiri here
lae'zel: "chk, if nothing else they will be decent cannon fodder in the battles to come." ALSO doesn't want afhiri here.. fuck man
wyll: "what a delight afhiri is, it's good to have someone around who can find the joy in things despite our predicament." happie :)
karlach: also looking around for the flute now. been dragged into it
Does your Tav have any comments or advice when you recruit other companions?
@ gale: "oh my god he came out of a rock!!!!!!!" eyeing him up intensely.. "A CLOWN!!!!!!!!!!" proceeds to lose her shit
@ shadowheart: "she's quite pretty, isn't she? i like her toy! i wonder if she'll let me play with it too" ^_^
@ astarion: eyes him up and down "i think i've seen him before...." never mentions this again and if u ask them about it they're like huh??
@ lae'zel: doesn't really have anything to say.. "lae'zel looks pretty cool" with a big smile :D
@ wyll: "I'M SO GLAD YOU BEFRIENDED WYLL DID YOU SEE HIM AT THE GATE DID YOU SEE HIM STAB THAT GOBLIN WITH HIS QUIPPY ONE LINER HE'S SOO COOL HE WOULD MAKE SUCH A GOOD PERFORMER I WONDER IF HE'S EVER BEEN ON STAGE BEFORE!!!" bursting at the seams
@ karlach: "it would have been a crime to kill someone so hot..." nods sagely. misses the literal irony in her statement
What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?
in general afhiri is super easy-going and befriends people who don't even like them.. ^_^ so losing approval will be harder but that doesn't mean raising is super easy! afhiri is just very nice to people in general!
raise:
helping tieflings
helping the poor, the downtrodden and lower class
being disrespectful to authority figures!
making jokes and doing silly things (includes lying)
performing! (you gain a lil bit of approval on performing even if you're bad)
lose:
siding with the goblins (this is the largest approval hit)
hurting + killing animals
not taking new opportunities (refusing to do quests, attacking enemies before letting them talk, etc)
being a stick in the mud with a pole up ur ass!! have some fun!!
scolding her for her antics or otherwise talking down to her
you can honestly view afhiri's approval as similiar to sera from dai if you're aware of her general likes and dislikes !!!
Are there any instances where your Tav can permanently leave the party, depending on player character actions?
no, but afhiri really won't like you killing the tieflings. they don't really give a shit about the druids but heavily empathises with the tieflings and this is the literal only time you can make afhiri genuinely angry at you. it's super easy to convince afhiri to calm down and stay however, and you can even gain the lost approval again depending on how you approach her at the party!!! (manipulation goes a long way <3)
Do they have any secrets that can be revealed?  What are the prerequisites for this secret coming to light?
afhiri doesn't necessarily have secrets, but you CAN learn that the afhiri you know is essentially a persona. it requires maximum approval and very specific dialogue choices - afhiri will reveal to you that they're running from themselves and they don't plan on stopping. if you try to encourage afhiri to accept who they are and stop running, you'll take a large approval hit and afhiri will cut the conversation short and you'll take small approval hits if you ever try to bring it up again ^_^
Do they have their own personal quest that spans the course of the game?  Can it take different branching paths depending on the choices the Player Character makes?
they do but not in a typical sense.
act 1: getting afhiri a flute, once you do this you'll unlock new bardic abilities for gameplay and combat! afhiri will also be seen playing the flute in camp ^_^ you can only pursue afhiri's romance once a flute has been gotten.. other instruments don't work !
act 2: you will get a sweet scene where afhiri tells you she's written a song about you and wants to perform !! afhiri will sing and dance and play their flute for you and the song will be from a selection of pre-made ones based on various decisions made in act 1! at the end of the performance you'll be given options that allow you to continue or end the romance ^_^
act 3: you've forced afhiri to return to where she's running from :) afhiri will, if your approval is high enough, mention her family. you Cannot visit, but if you encourage afhiri to pop in to see them they will Without you. if you ask afhiri how it went they'll be super dismissive and just say it was fine with a smile, afhiri won't say more even if you press the issue. it won't be satisfying and will likely get "i wish they did more with this" "did they cut visiting her family?" "that was pretty shit"
though there is some stuff that kind of counts if you keep reading ^_^
What do they say when the Player Character asks them to stay in camp?  How about when the Player Character asks them to come adventuring again?
stay: the biggest wet eyes and pout you have ever seen. you are going to make the clown cry. their bottom lip is wobbling. oh my god. if you confirm they are indeed staying they snap out of it immediately revealing it was a manipulation and just sulks like FINE
come: THIS PROVOKES PURE JOY!!!! afhiri is bouncing and resisting grabbing you (where their hands instinctively go to grab changes if ur romancing!) biggest smile ever. gonna play their absolute best for you u will NOT regret this!!!!!
Does your Tav have any escalating conflicts with one of the other companions, like Lae’zel and Shadowheart’s knife-fight?
no but afhiri will have escalating flirts :).....
Are there any unique NPCs associated with your Tav that can show up during the course of the game?
hehe.. yeah <3 candor
candor will appear and if you agree, will join as a camp companion! (ideally they'd both be companions but that isn't what this is ABOUT) you get a scene in each act where afhiri and candor interact with each other and you can chime in with your thoughts!!
act 1: they meet again for the first time since tadpole, afhiri jumps into candors arms and they have .. a moment. that feels invasive to watch. this is a scene that makes you think afhiri is Not available for romance ^_^ afhiri asks you to allow candor to come with you!
act 2: you accidentally walk in on them talking quietly by themselves. afhiri is resting her head on candors arm and it has its hand on her leg... another moment where you think afhiri isn't actually available.. extra drama if you're romancing afhiri !! this is the moment where you can ask about them, you learn about afhiri being poly, you're given the option to end the romance if you're not comfortable.
act 3: takes place after afhiri's act 3 quest, meaning you need that approval to see this! afhiri and candor are having a heart to heart about being back in the city and about afhiri's wild magic!! this is when candor confesses to afhiri that it's been protecting afhiri from wild magic for longer than originally thought. you can chime in, side with afhiri, who is upset specifically because she believes candor could have done more, befriended her sooner, helped her with her loneliness and troubled childhood, or side with candor, who believes it wasn't its place to interfere and only chose to eventually interfere because it felt it had to for afhiri's continued survival - it wasn't required sooner because afhiri wasn't in danger despite the hard life they were living. you also have the opportunity to not get involved, either by not taking a side and seeing BOTH their points, or by walking away.
in order to see afhiri's TRUE FULL QUEST!! u need to bring candor as a camp companion :) fuck everyone who refused candor to join. especially if they did it out of possessive jealousy of afhiri!!!!!!! PUNISHMENT!!!!!!! (yeah. gamers wouldn't like me)
Are there any moments in the game that trigger unique dialogue for your character? (Like Gale’s anecdote about the barfight after you save the goblin prisoner)
the first time you perform ^_^ so it requires you to either be a bard, get the instrument proficiency feat, or just play a random instrument you find very badly! so it's pretty missable!
no matter what, even if you're bad, afhiri gets excited and wants to play with you!! you also gain approval ^_^
Story Specific
How does your Tav advise the player character when it comes to the Dream Visitor?
afhiri has no advice :) it was just a dream man idk. did you eat something funky
How do they advise the player character on Raphael?
raphael looks like a rich snob with too much money so afhiri DOES NOT LIKE. so afhiri will, not really getting what's going on, not want you to take the deal on the fact that he looks like a prick they should rob instead
How do they react to Astarion biting the Player Character?
afhiri, not knowing or understanding what a vampire is, "did you at least ask for consent"
How do they react to the Player Character letting Abdirak whip them?
head tilt of curiousity and naivity until there's blood and you're screaming and then they're looking around like what the fu
How do they react to the Player Character taking their first tadpole power?
afhiri will think it's kinda icky but won't comment beyond that!
Will they stay with the Player Character regardless of siding with the goblins or the tieflings, or is it possible for them to leave the party permanently?
they'll stay!
What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party?
performing! afhiri will be playing her flute in her idle animation ^_^
Do they have comments on who the Player Character chooses to spend the night with?
i'm gonna say no because i highly doubt afhiri fucking noticed or fucking cares. like if you approach afhiri and you're like HEY.... DID SMTH NASTY LAST NIGHT WITH WHATS ER FACE. yeah afhiri's interested now... but in general afhiri is not shoving nose where nose is not wanted. act 1 too early for afhiri to be a prying bitch
Do they have unique dialogue if the Player Character lets them die when they steal the Blood of Lathander?
probably smth really dumb like. "well that was bright!!!! anyway hi :D"
How do they react if the PC licks the dead spider in the Gauntlet of Shar?
"did it taste good? can i lick it?" you're both dead on the ground
What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown?
this is the best moment of afhiri's life. feels kinda nervous because oh my god, oh my god, it's DRIBBLES!!! this is their moment. their moment to prove themselves. FINALLY! FINALLY THEY CAN SHOW DRIBBLES THEY ARE THE BEST CLOWN!!!!! afhiri is PUMPED. this moment is EVERYTHING. this is the afhiri's nightsong moment, afhiri's ritual.. you get the point
Is it possible for your Tav to be kidnapped and replaced by Orin?  How is Orin's deception revealed?  How do they react to the PC rescuing them in the Temple of Bhaal?
afhiri cannot be kidnapped because afhiri would simply dodge orin. u cannot kidnap a circus weirdo. however i could have some insane thoughts about orin ATTEMPTING it and giving up with frustration :)
How do they react to the PC either allowing Astarion to ascend or convincing him to spare the 7000 spawn?
afhiri does not grasp what this means. afhiri cannot visualise 7000 souls as 7000 living breathing people - except they're not they're uh. dead. anyway. afhiri can't do it. so will afhiri react? no. very like "huh?" and no one will take the time to explain . gale might explain later at camp. then its "huh..." and u got nothing else cuz THEY CANNOT VISUALISE IT ......
How does Tav react to the PC becoming a mind flayer?  Can they offer to become one themselves?  Does their reaction change if they’re romanced?
afhiri would give a very chill oh that's cool!! that's pretty sick!!! ohhhhhh !!!! awesome !!!!!! type of reaction. would not offer however because afhiri don't understand what the fuck goin on thinks ur doing it just for funsies. cuz u wanna. ^_^ romance would get no other reaction beyond maybe a line about being curious how u kiss each other now and also what those tentacles do
How do they react when the Dark Urge first reveals their amnesia and murderous thoughts to them?
afhiri don't rly know what amnesia is. once u explain its very oh..... okay..... F. reaction. emotionally stunted and unavoidable gamer reaction. murderous thoughts? very haha and then what. afhiri doesn't take this Seriously.
How do they react to the Dark Urge killing Alfira?
see this will make afhiri very sad because ALFIRA BARD FRIEND. WEARING A FUNNY JESTER OUTFIT. ALFIRA :HANDSHAKE: AFHIRI!!!!!! so afhiri would be sad to find out alfira is dead but likely would not believe the durge did it because durge is friend :)
If romanced, how do they react to the Dark Urge trying to kill them in Act 2?
i basically just answered this huh. haha and then what :) its so funny how i keep saying afhiri don't take shit srsly. like afhiri would not believe ur actually gonna try and kill them. they're just vibing and think ur being a bit kinky
Romance
Is your Tav a romanceable character?  Are there any specific requirements to romancing them?
afhiri is romanceable and without the flute from her act 1 quest the romance is locked out entirely. if you enter act 2 without giving the flute, romance is locked for good!
Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough?
afhiri needs to be flirted with at least once for her to see you in that light. if you don't keep flirting, afhiri will approach you!
Are they a polyamorous or a monogamous option?
poly!!! if you ask afhiri to be mono it will ONLY work if you didn't recruit candor or you sought to drive a wedge between them, so they never reached a romantic point, however they will STILL be very close and intimate, otherwise afhiri will say no because candor is too important to them.
afhiri will accept poly with every single companion no questions asked ^_^
Do they have a special romance scene at the tiefling/goblin party?
afhiri does!! you approach them and they're all exhausted and tired but immensely happy and in their element because they've been playing and performing the entire party, and you talking to them is giving them a short break. if you ask, afhiri will come to you after the party when they've finished performing and everyone's going to bed!
the scene will be you and afhiri by the water. u sit down and afhiri gives u a private session thats a much more delicate and gentle song just for u . she doesnt sing its just a tune. (note: if u romance her in act 2 she will play this same tune but this time will start singing a song she wrote for u) u then talk a lil bit about the party and everything uve been thru so far. afhiri is pretty useless during it but its used as a way to show the player how disconnected afhiri is. afhiri acts as escapism for the player from the story!
Does the romance have different branching paths, or just one route to take?
it'll have just one path, but micro changes (like small dialogues) based on candor things!
How do they react to the player character breaking up with them, or choosing another character over them?
hmm.. afhiri would ultimately be very chill about it. theyd be sad about the fact you cant hold hands and cuddle at night and kiss and stuff anymore. and theyd ask if you CAN still do that stuff but as friends (offering a fwb alternative!!!!) if you say no theyll be fine but a tiny bit moopy because they had fun with you and liked being close to u. but ur not gonna get no grand statements or tears from afhiri! and would be happy for you if u found love with someone else c:
What questions can Zethino ask the PC about Tav in the Love Test?
question one: what kind of performer has afhiri always dreamt of being?
available answers: a bard, a clown, something unique and different
something unique and different is the correct answer! no approval changes.
question two: afhiri has left their life behind on nothing but a whim, what is afhiri running from?
available answers: responsibility, their family, dribbles
dribbles is the correct answer and gains approval! if you select responsibility or their family it will also be considered correct but will gain disapproval.
question three: what does afhiri need the most?
available answers: to grow up and act like an adult, freedom, to become the best clown in the world
to become the best clown in the world and freedom are both correct. no approval changes!
If they’re poly, do they have a reaction to the PC engaging in a relationship with Halsin?
down for it. down to be a polycule. down to also date halsin. down for threesomes. down for it all!!!!!!!! afhiri a free spirit baby.
How do they react if the PC has sex with Mizora? The Emperor?  Haarlep?
GET IT!!!!! GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! afhiri doesn't really have any concept of like. sleeping with a devil or an incubus is like, realistically a bad idea, so its just. DAMN YOU FUCKED THAT HOT PERSON?? NIIIICEEEE!!!! high fives!!!!! with the emperor its just the same thing. you got laid? fuck yeah. high fives!
Will they join in with the PC and the Drow Twins, or no?
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFHIRI IS DOWN!!!!!!!!!! u have got the most giddy tiefling right behind you, going 'eeeeee' with excitement, bouncing up and down looking at you with large pleady eyes CAN WE PLEASE? CAN WE PLEEASSE??? I REALLY WANT TO!!!!!!! if tav says no you bet ur ass afhiri is hanging around there like hehe can i anyway
What are Tav’s plans for the future?  Do they propose to the PC, or is marriage not something they’re interested in?
afhiri is an independent soul .. doesn't wanna get married ... doesnt rlly wanna move in either.. being with afhiri longterm is accepting uve got a partner whos adventurous and wants to explore and see the world and meet new people!!! now afhiri WILL settle down after years together because afhiri will lowkey become commited with you without labels - if YOU involve labels thats just gonna push afhiri away. so just be patient with her.. like a stray cat who sleeps in ur house and eats ur food. one day they'll just stay if you're patient with them!!!!!! also being with afhiri is accepting her free spirited nature... afhiri is gonna date and sleep with other people, AND YOURE ALLOWED TOO!!, so afhiri long term is not for anyone who wants the domestic monogamous life

Mulder's Alien Baby Baby Trauma In-Depth (Part VI): Bonds Once Forged Are Not Easily Broken
Tumblr media
Now, we come to first meetings and (second?) reunions-- and part of that will be focused on Mulder and Doggett's throwdown.
On the one hand, Doggett's poured literal blood and sweat into finding and retrieving this man-- first as a job, then as a friend. Allegations of a crush for Scully (which I don’t buy) aside, he’s a good man that's done good work.
On the other hand, Mulder has primed himself for battle: seething with vengeance for three months of torment and three months of death, and with nowhere to direct this hatred, Doggett has become an easy target. From Mulder’s perspective, sudden helping hands were always revealed to be turncoats; and the newest recruit just so happening to weasel in under everyone's nose at the most opportune (or inopportune) time and being completely "above reproach"? Unlikely.
In short, it’s not going to be a pleasant meeting for the X-Files' newest agent.
Introducing the Buddy Cop
Tumblr media
We must devote a short amount of word space to Doggett, since he will morph into a pivotal player in Mulder’s post-abduction shenanigans from here on out.
After his “capture” by Absalom and “rescue” by the FBI, he sits, disturbed, in Skinner’s office while the latter man debriefs him. Both are candid and unguarded with each other-- a dynamic he, Skinner, and Scully developed in Mulder’s absence-- not hiding the fact they're mutually bothered and skeptical over Absalom's claims and needless despite (though for different reasons.)
“It may not be the best way, but it is certainly one way to catch an escaped convict-- I’ll give you that, Agent Doggett,” Skinner remarks, nose still buried in his agent’s report.
“I’d just as soon stick to the old fashioned way, Sir. That shot was a little too close for comfort.”
“You said this man claimed the US Census Bureau had data, information that he was after that connects to this man that was shot on the White House lawn.”
“'Proof', he said,” Doggett nods, adding, “that ‘they were here among us’.” Then, turning away and scowling contemplatively, he adds, “Whoever they are.”
Tumblr media
Before Skinner can voice his next thought, the door snaps open and in walks Mulder.
A few interesting first thoughts:
Mulder’s shirt is at least a size (if not two) too large, adding to his disheveled, harried integration back into a normal life. And, yes, Skinner’s shirt is also oversized… but not that oversized. It makes me wonder if the clothing department created the illusion of Mulder’s weight loss and trauma by sizing up his wardrobe; and if so, clever touch. (Will have to keep an eye on the rest of the men’s wear this season to compare and contrast... if I remember.)
His face is very grim and very serious; his posture is rigid; and his eyes remain fixated on Doggett's, even during his cursory “Sir” to Skinner as he closes the door.
Tumblr media
Doggett senses his animosity immediately, turning grim as well-- but doesn’t think to take a defensive stance, likely chalking up Mulder’s standoffishness to natural aloofness exacerbated by his inexplicable return.
And his instincts seem to pay off: Mulder collectedly walks up to him, softly asking, “Is this John Doggett?” with an upward head tilt thrown in. All signs point to the returnee being tense but friendly; and the newcomer stands with a hand outstretched to welcome the other man home.
Tumblr media
And then, the push.
Mulder barrels past Doggett’s handshake, not breaking form as he immediately shoves the other man back into his chair-- a very pathetic smack, really, despite the force that could have been exerted from his forward momentum (another little tell that Mulder is not physically up to snuff, yet.)
Doggett, collapses, stunned; and Skinner rushes into to grab his former agent as he launches into rapid fire accusations.
“I hope you’re not commending him as a hero for what he did in this thing because he is not,” Mulder insists, maintaining burning eye contact with his adversary while ignoring and talking over Skinner’s commands to back off.
Tumblr media
“I’m not about to referee a boxing match,” Skinner warns (hey, an S.R. 819 reference!)
Tumblr media
Doggett’s scowl deepens as reality sinks in, his emotions vacillating from utter befuddlement to insulted awe while rewinding the last few seconds. He attempts to recapture the friendly mood; but it fits falsely on his face, making him look even more like a stilted, Consortium double agent.
“Just what’s the problem here?”
Tumblr media
Mulder is not convinced-- no one in his shoes probably would be-- and he spells it out for everyone in the room.
“The problem? You occupy an office that used to be devoted to finding the truth and now you’re busy burying it, that's the problem.”
Doggett tries again, a little more animosity seeping out through his voice, shifting posture, and wagging finger: friends he will be, but not punching bag. “Whoa, you musta got your wires crossed somewhere, Agent Mulder.”
Tumblr media
“You got that man killed,” Mulder snaps.
Incredulously raising his eyebrows, Doggett snarkily repeats, “I got him killed?”
“Because of what he knew, of what he could expose,” Mulder continues, pushing closer against the boundary of Skinner’s shoulder (who, it seems, is destined to referee Mulder’s fights with or without his say so.)
Tumblr media
“You see this, Agent Mulder?” Doggett snipes, pointing at the deep cut across his cheek.
Undeterred, he responds, “I see you sitting there, Agent Doggett.”
After a weighty pause, Mulder ends the interrogation with, “It’s good enough for me”, another haunted pause, a last look at Skinner, and a swift trudge back out the door.
Tumblr media
Skinner waits until he leaves before lowering his guard, pinching the bridge of his nose and trying to drum up an explanation for Doggett. Slowly turning, he begins, “You gotta understand what he’s been through, I mean, now he’s back and you’re--”
But Doggett is nodding dismissively and leaping out of his chair to the other door before Skinner can finish, unwilling to hear out a string of weak excuses for Mulder's appalling behavior.
Tumblr media
More interesting thoughts:
Even though Mulder is biased against Doggett, the latter does seem paint-by-the-numbers guilty, an exact specimen the Syndicate used to dig up and dance around with impunity. Doggett gives very little away, doesn’t justify his position, and uses survivable wounds as "evidence" of his innocence-- all of which have been used at sundry times throughout the show.
Mulder is obviously not in a state to clearly weigh evidence in Doggett’s favor, running blindly around to stop the aliens from abducting anyone else ever again (alluded to in this post.)
Although Mulder is furious for Absalom during this conversation, he is really demanding justice for himself. Every line spoken to Doggett points right back in his direction; and he is conscious of that, trying to avoid his experience and safeguard against it permanently simultaneously.
Skinner is aware of this on some level, excusing Mulder’s bad behavior to Doggett’s face while also understanding Doggett's righteous anger at boss in turn.
But the conflict doesn’t end there.
Doggett has struggled all Season 8 to support, befriend, and be an ally to Scully. He advocated for her, saved her life, and kept her from danger over and over again; yet she didn’t open up to or confide in him unless absolutely forced. Despite that, he still helped safe guard her secret, find her partner, and support her after Mulder’s death-- and all this while battling imposter syndrome in himself.
Doggett never tried to compete with or measure up to Mulder (that was Scully’s struggle); but from day one, he felt isolated and rejected, doing his best to build good relationships with Scully and Skinner. By proving his stripes, he thought it would earn him equal consideration as a partner and a person. However, his insecurity-- that the others would sideline him the minute Mulder came back-- is proven true (and would continue to be proven true the rest of Season 8.) He suspected Mulder curated a type of jealous loyalty, and he was right: even Skinner, whom he formed the closest friendship with, takes Mulder’s side over his own.
Skinner is left alone in the office, pondering how best to tackle both agents’ issues.
Tumblr media
Friends in This Life and After (and This Life Again)
Mulder hops over to Scully’s apartment where he is surprised by Frohike opening the door (tilting his head and immediately pulling up his cheeks in a smile.)
It’s a beautiful moment: the man in Scully’s kitchen six years ago is here now to greet and invite him in, rushing over to it before the others could. Not only that, but Frohike is also the first person to make a genuine joke at Mulder’s expense, one so cheery and hearty that it redirects Mulder's sarcasm into sincerity.
“You know, it’s really not fair. You’ve been dead for six months and you’re still better looking than me.”
Tumblr media
An interesting note: something strange and morbid begins to happen here as well: Mulder uncharacteristically sticks his hand out for a shake, standing on formalities with a friend who’s been through thick and thin with him.
And while it’s bad enough to view this as an insecure attempt on Mulder’s part to become "reacquainted" with his former friend, another-- and worse-- parallel could plausibly be drawn: his father’s distant overtures in Colony: a way to keep loved ones at a distance so they don't see flaws and scars up close, perhaps.
Tumblr media
Frohike ignores the handshake entirely, finishing his joke and latching onto Mulder with a fierce, all-encompassing hug.
And Mulder is euphorically happy: that someone saw him instead of his traumas, that he’s been recognized as “normal” despite his experiences, that his experiences don’t define him in at least one person’s eyes.
Tumblr media
Frohike’s lack of reserve and whole-hearted affection frees a part of himself still under lock and key; and he laughs unreservedly, returning the unexpected hug with affectionate back pats and thrilled cooing noises after the former somberly concludes, “Though not by much.”
Tumblr media
There is no expectation or agenda or fear or worry between the two, allowing the undead to relax into the moment and fully feel for the first time: he picks up on Frohike’s pain, soothes it by letting the hug last longer than usual, and even settles into the moment with him-- “Melvin…”-- before keeping their dignity intact with a well-timed joke.
Abashed that he might have lingered too long-- but not ashamed--, Frohike steps back, assessing his friend’s mood with a completely serious “Sorry”; then, after Mulder nods good-humoredly and walks off, reaches over to close the door.
Tumblr media
An interesting speculation: why would Mulder cut the moment short?
Obviously there’s discomfort he’s still navigating post resurrection, but he was never the huggy, touchy guy with his friends to begin with. Frohike’s hug, while welcome, is more unnatural than normal.
And, personally, I like to think the eagle-eyed staring from the rest of the group is the real reason. (The cut-to is hilarious if you aren’t expecting it, by the way.)
Tumblr media
Byers advances with a welcoming “I think it goes without saying that we’re all, uh… tremendously relieved,” too overjoyed to notice Mulder’s polite, tight smile.
Langly’s greeting is tremendously less subtle: “And not just because we had big questions about your involvement in a certain blessed event.”
Tumblr media
This next interaction is the second huge make-or-break for this episode: like the first scene back in Mulder’s apartment, this, too, can be easily misconstrued; and is entirely dependent on context.
Caught off guard, he raises his head, freezing his face and darting his eyes over to Scully. He and Scully have not yet discussed the baby, but he knows it’s his (posts here and here.) Are Langly's implications a result of her indirect interference or a natural result of his normal impetuosity? Furthermore, what has Scully told his friends about the baby? Has she told them about the baby? Has Scully rustled up an opportunity to press for more, he wonders.
Mulder knows Scully is not above premeditation, especially about big events in her life (her father’s death, her cancer, her adopted daughter, her distrust of Diana, etc.), and this incident harkens back to another four-against-one scenario in the not-so-distant past (her confrontation at TLG's in One Son.) He and Scully just resynced yesterday, post here; but this comment out of the blue immediately activates his conspiracy radar.
Tumblr media
One look at her face, however, dispels that notion (for now): Scully didn’t know this was coming, eyes pivoting sharply from Langly’s direction to Mulder's. Having nothing to hide, she doesn't look down or away; and even betrays a sense of humor in the tilt of her head and tuck of her chin. Her relaxed face invites Mulder to see the absurdity of this strange moment rather than be bowled over by it.
Tumblr media
The camera pans back to Mulder right before everything registers-- showing his downfallen face and penetrating gaze--
Tumblr media
and captures the split-second of reassurance and quick snap back to good humor. Catching Scully's comedic undertone, he reciprocates with a mock suspicious face-- the same used later in Empedocles-- complete with squinting, glinty eyes, head tilt, and imperceptibly opened mouth.
Tumblr media
Scully-- relieved he’s gotten her point, amused at his antics, and intuiting his unreadiness to broach the baby topic-- deadpans, “So much for playing a hunch, Mulder,” while raising her eyebrows and shifting her head level-- a tease back, and a transition to more serious discussions.
Tumblr media
“The, uh, Gunmen were able to decrypt the data you found on Howard Salt’s hard drive.”
Frohike joins them in time for Mulder’s roundtable “thank you” nod; and, all together now, the men give their full attention to Scully's synopsis of their findings.
Tumblr media
CONCLUSION
Doggett has been shoved, his friends have embraced him, and he and Scully have reengaged their unspoken effectively-- all good things for Mulder. Firing on all cylinders in the company of those that love him helps resurrected man feel back in action, feel alive, feel like himself.
Of course, this is a small bandaid for the bigger, gaping wound of his abduction trauma… and, of course, that problem isn't helped by the confirmation of Scully's (well-meaning) premeditation during the course of the next five minutes.

Thank you for reading~
Enjoy!

Wine and Movie Pt 1 - Ushijima Wakatoshi

Pt 1 | Pt 2 | Pt 3
Tumblr media
Yawning, you slugged into the gym a few minutes later than planned, and dropped yourself onto the bench next to the coach. Suzaku brushed his goatee, taking his eyes off the gym floor to give you a curious look from the corner of his eye.
“Bad date?” he asked.
“Yep.”
“I’m sorry, Kid. That sucks. You were looking forward to it.”
“Yep.”
He waited, lips pinched together until he couldn’t wait any longer. “What happened?”
“Ugh!” You sunk into the bench, back hunching until you fully curled over your lap. “He was just. So much? Too little? Everything and nothing at all?”
“How… descriptive.”
You groaned again, lifting your head to see the team walk in together with their training gear on and made their way to one of the trainers who was waiting in the centre of the gym to lead their warm-ups. You lowered your voice as they made a large circle, and some of the towering players settled into their spots a couple of steps in front of you.
“Okay, first, we agreed to see a movie. And I thought, ‘sounds good. I love movies; it’ll give us something to discuss afterwards.’ I got to choose the film and, of course, I went with that murder movie, right? He slept through it! And when I asked what he thought, he said ‘it’s no DC cinematic classic.’ So I already wanted to leave, but at that point, we had already gotten to dinner.” You breathed, trying to whisper as you noticed the players glancing over their shoulders to get an ear on what you were saying. “He spent the whole time whining about his ex, who for the record, sounded lovely, and how she didn’t take care of him enough. Honestly, that woman was a saint for putting up with him for more than five hours. He didn’t even listen to a word I said. Gosh, why do I even bother dating men? Do you have a daughter, Coach Suzaku?”
“I do, but she’s got some anger issues and spends most of her time whining. She’s also four, so, ya know.”
You huffed a laugh, earning a pat on the back from the man. “I should just get off dating apps. It‘s done nothing but cause me headaches.”
“I think you need to meet someone the old-fashioned way. You know, I met my wife in college. There was a campus party, and I threw up in the toilet while she was crying in the bathtub.”
You gave him a horrified look. “And she went for that?”
“After laughing at me, ya.”
You chuckled, imagining Suzaku with his arms wrapped around a toilet bowl and acidic chucks falling from his nose, being laughed at by a woman with messy hair and tear-stained cheeks that was curled up in the nearby tub. “She sounds wonderful.”
“Oh, she is. But my point still stands. You need to connect with someone naturally instead of searching for it.”
“I’ll give it a shot.”
“Just don’t drink too much.”
“Haha, I’ll stick with wine.”
You both turned back to the team.
“Hey, Toshi, face the team. There’s nothing important going on over here.”
Ushijima, who had twisted his spine around while stretching, had his sharp eyes zeroed in on you and the coach and missed the call for him to turn onto the next stretch. His eyes darted back to the team, and he eagerly switched his position to keep up with the rest.
You chuckled. “That’s unusual.”
“It is. But not surprising. He’ll get lost in thought if he gets distracted.”
“Him? Distracted from volleyball?” Ushijima was one of the youngest on the team, having been recruited right before graduating high school, but managed to outrun everyone in terms of focus. Everyone on the team was a volleyball geek. The V league seemed only to recruit those who would dedicate their lives to the sport. But even with the stiff competition, Ushijima had struck you as someone who relied on the sport like a lifeline, not the other way around. He relied on volleyball. Volleyball didn’t rely on him. Any deviation was a distraction from his life path.
“Hard to believe, isn’t it? Can’t be a bad thing, though. He’ll wear himself thin if he spends all his free time practising. Which reminds me, I’m going to have to confiscate the gym key from the youngsters.”
You saw that we pinched his eyes toward Kageyama and Hoshiyumi, who were next to Ushijima’s right.
“Like that will stop them from booking time at a local gym.”
Suzaku kissed his teeth. “You’re right…. It’s better to have them here. Here, where you can watch them.” he slapped your shoulder.
“Seriously? Look. I may like my job, but hanging out in a sweat-filled gym is not my idea of a good time.”
“Better than going on another bad date, though. Right?”
“I guess.”
“Good.” He grinned, looking back at the team. “Toshi! Pay attention.”
Tumblr media
Sighing, you watched the three as they spent their time off doing exactly what they’d do if it were their time on. Hoshiumi would throw the ball into the air, Kageyama would toss it, and then Hoshiumi would spike it past Ushijima if he managed, and then they rotated.
“You know, we all have to go to dinner in an hour, right? You should all shower and get dressed.”
Kageyama and Hoshiyumi were vocal in their desire to keep playing, glaring your way as they harrumphed. Ushijima, both as you expected and, to your shock, turned to you with his usual stoic expression and nodded before walking to the showers.
“Did he just?” You looked toward the other two, who mirrored your expression. “Nevermind. Just follow him, you stink, and it's an industry dinner.”
Being the one with the driver's licence and a car, it was you that got to drive the damp-haired men to the venue. Making it just in time, you ushered the three to your teams tables and got them in their seats before the MC of the night began talking. It was a rush, and after getting Kageyama and Hoshiumi onto one table and Ushijima to the other, there wasn’t enough time to run to the back of the room where the rest of the staff was.
“Welcome, everyone!” the MC started, as you placed a crumpled handkerchief onto Ushijima’s lap. “We are in for a long night, filled with interviews, conversations and food. Staff will be coming around with your orders of food and drink, we ask that you please stay seated until the end of recording and eating. Let’s get this show on the road.”
“Ah shit,” you cursed. The cameras were rolling, and you’d have to run across them or crawl and risk disrupting the event either way. You ducked as the hanging camera swung overhead.
“Sit here,” Ushijima said in his usual low tone, while pulling out the chair next to him.
“I can’t do that! I’m not a player, people will notice!”
“Not enough people will care.”
“If you saw a stranger sitting with your team, wouldn’t you be a little curious or concerned?”
He didn't answer, looking off for a moment before meeting your eyes. “Sit.”
“Ushijima, you’re as stubborn as a boulder.” You slowly rose to your feet, still hunching as to not get higher than everyone’s heads. “I shouldn’t sit here.”
Taking your hand, gently, by the tips of your fingers, he pulled you down onto the plush chair just as you landed the camera swung back over your head. “Sit.”
“You’re like a toddler.”
“Not a boulder?”
“You can be both.”
“I like the boulder.”
“Fine. A boulder.”
As much as you enjoyed the world of volleyball, you found yourself zoned out as the MC called various coaches and players to the stand. Sadly, you couldn’t converse too much or move anywhere; you were glued to your chair until the first commercial break came. But, just as you were about to sneak away—
“Excuse me, I don’t have your order. Are you in the wrong seat?” A waitress had arrived, dawning a completely black outfit that made her blend into the background.
“I am, I was just about to move to my seat.”
“No, no. I’ll bring your food here, we want everyone to stay where they are until the end. What was your name? I need it so I can find your order.”
You hunched back into the chair, mumbling your name out while fiddling with the table cloth.
“And what would you like to drink?”
“...Red wine?”
“Excellent, I’ll be right back.”
“Great.”
There were a few moments of chatter before Ushijima turned his chair towards you.
“What school did you go to?” He asked.
“Which one? High school or university?”
He paused again, thinking. “Both.”
“Wakutani, then 2 years of Miyagi U.”
“What did you study?”
“Sports science, but I did it really quickly.”
“Hmm.”
Nodding, you waited for a moment before putting out your own question.
“Why are you talking to me? You don’t seem like the type to… idly chat.”
He shrugged with one shoulder. “You seem interesting.”
“Oh.” You blinked at him, fighting down a blush, “I can’t say I’ve been told that before.”
He nodded, “You are interesting. I wanted to talk to you.”
“Thank you,” you choked, trying to find something other than being flustered to focus on.
“You went to Shiratorizawa right? Did you do anything besides volleyball?”
“No… Not unless my teammates took me somewhere. Tendou liked to get dessert.”
You had no idea who Tendou was, but you nodded along hoping something else would come to mind before you got to stuff your faces with food.
“Do you like desserts?”
“No.”
“Oh.”
“I like hayashi rice,” he offered. “It’s not a dessert though. I have to keep myself healthy.”
“It’s okay to treat yourself now and then, but if you prefer healthy foods anyways, then it’s no big deal.”
“Do you like deserts?”
“Umm, sometimes? I like salty things more I think. I always get popcorn when I go to the movies, chips are too loud.”
“Hmm. You like mysteries right?”
The waitress came back, placing your place of food on the table cloth. You smiled at her quickly before turning back to Ushijima.
“I do. Were you listening to me and Coach talk?”
He paused again, “Maybe.”
You laughed, trying to keep your voice down as the MC returned to the stage. “You’re a little stalker.”
“I’m not little.” He huffed.
“I know, that makes it even funnier.” You took a sip of wine. “Do you have a favourite genre of movie?”
“Hmm. Philosophical?”
“Really? I thought you would’ve said sports.”
“I like those too.”
“Figures. Are there any volleyball ones you like?”
“No. They’re all bad. They don't portray volleyball correctly.”
“Ah, so you watch sports you don’t know anything about because you can’t criticize the specifics but can relate to the characters as athletes.”
Ushijima took a breath before nodding. “Ya. Is there a reason why you like mysteries?”
“I like that they make me think. Make me try to solve a puzzle with the same clues the characters have. Really good ones give you the clues without making them too obvious. There’s a balance.”
“Hmm, would you want to see a movie together sometime? Your pick. Maybe have some wine with it?”
“Trying to ask me out already after having one conversation that doesn’t pertain to your physical health.”
“Um.. Sure?” he didn’t seem sure.
You chuckled, shaking your head and hand, dismissing it, before looking at him with a calm smile. “So, wine and a movie?”
Again he paused, then nodded. “Wine and a movie.”
Tumblr media
“He’s like… 25? And asked me out for wine and a movie like he's a 40 year old woman.”
Sara, who sat, draped, across your couch gave you a side eyed look. “You love those things.”
“Yes, I do. But it doesn’t mean I can’t be surprised… and a little bit confused.”
“Well, maybe he likes you.”
“He likes volleyball.”
“And paid enough attention to something outside of volleyball to be able to remember something.”
You stopped your pacing, blinking. “Oh shit, you might be right.”
“Oh look at that, I’m right. Once again!”
“I said might be.” You glared over the armrest.
Sara shrugged. “Same difference. So when is this happening.”
“After practice on Monday… He usually stays behind to do extra drills.”
“Oho, you really got him out of his comfort zone.”
You groaned, dropping onto the couch by Sara’s feet, which she immediately placed in your lap. “Why did I agree to this? How did I end up agreeing to this?”
“Hey, it’s not a bad thing. He took note of some of your interests, there’s nothing wrong with appreciating the gesture.”
“The bare minimum really.”
“It’s more than most men can say they do.”
Sighing, you stared at your ceiling, hoping to find a clear thought among the white void. Nothing came and you were left with hearing your heart thumping in your ears.
Tumblr media
Ushijima’s home, despite being in a luxury apartment not too far from the training grounds, was like walking into a traditional temple. Somehow, he managed to collect and cater his home to a certain design choice through decorations alone.
You stared at some of the photos in his living room wall. There was a lack of family pictures, maybe one or two, but the majority was made up of candid shots of his mid-air, left arm pulled back as he prepped for a spike, or blurry photos that he definitely didn’t take himself.
“That’s Tendou,” Ushijima said, using the rim of a wine glass to point at the red mass in the corner of one of the photos. “He moves too quickly. Every picture he takes is bad.”
You laughed. “Bad or not, you still hang them up.”
“He did it without my permission.”
Raising a brow, you tilted your head his way. “And yet, you haven’t taken them down.”
Ushijima looked away, heading toward the mats and table that were low to the ground. Any other person would have thought he ignored you, but even a short conversation was enough to let you know that he hadn’t.
“They’re bad photos, but I like them.” He poured the red wine into two glasses, and poured out the chips he had hidden beneath one arm into a bowl. “Hmm, You don’t have to worry about the chips making noise, subtitles are on.”
You smiled. “How considerate. Or are you worried that you won't be able to hear the movie?”
Ushijima just hummed, and sat down on one of the pillows, leaving an invisible invitation on the matching one for you to sit on.
It was your choice of movie, but you had decided on something that hopefully combined both of your interests.
Soul from Pixar.
Combine both of your interests… as little as possible.
Though, to be fair, the movie did have a philosophical side to it, and was about passion, just in music instead of sports. It didn’t have any mystery, which was fine… There’s no reason you had to have your favourite genre included, you had chips and wine.
Not that Ushijima went for the chips at all. More for you. A trade off.
It was odd though. Despite Sara’s claims, it didn’t feel like a date. You both sat on opposite ends of a square table, too far away to think about cuddling up even if there wasn’t a table in your way, sitting silently (as much as the chips would allow) as the movie passed. However, at the odd times you’d glance at Ushijima, you’d see a man, fully wrapped up in the story unfolding in front of him with the lights reflecting in his eyes. Focused, thinking, and certainly not asleep or whining about his ex.
The bag of chips and bowl were completely empty by the time the film ended. Had it not been a monday, the wine would have been too.
As the credits rolled you took your last sip of wine for the night, dipping your head back as the last drop rolled onto your tongue.
“I liked it,” Ushijima said. “I wish I could have seen where 22 went though.”
“Hmm,” you thought aloud, “I think that may be part of the point though. What would have seeing where 22 went served? They found a passion for life, that was the end of their story. At least, the end for this part of it.”
“Ya… It just felt incomplete in a way.”
“Why do you say that?”
Ushijima turned on his pillow, sitting with a straight spine as he faced your slouched posture. You gulped and straighten up.
“There’s so much time that’ll follow that point of the story.”
“Hmm, ya. Well, what do you want to see 22 do?”
“Music? Food maybe.”
You grinned, “I like that idea too. I think food works really well. Maybe a social worker in some way. 22 fell in love with being a person, I feel like it makes sense if they want to help people in some way.”
Ushijima nodded. “Do you want to watch another movie?”
You blinked, glancing at the clock on the wall before thinking it over with a smile, calm as can be. “You know what, sure. You choose this one.”

Halsin, Minthara and Datamines
Tumblr media
I've talked about this before but I decided to make a more "formal" post about it, so that I don't have to keep repeting myself. Also, this is a situation that lowkey makes me a bit stressed and it has been plaguing my mind for quite long now, so I'll use this as an excuse to talk about it.
Context: There's datamined stuff that people found of a potential ultimatum scene. In it, Halsin confronts the player for saving Minthara in the party, because of what she almost did to the grove, and basically says it's either her or me (hence the use of the word ultimatum) and then the player would have to choose to either keep Minthara or Halsin.
Now, Larian, as far as I know, has made no move to actually implement this in game but apparently, lines have been voiced.
So... my opinion on this (and let me make this VERY clear: this whole post is solely my opinion ok, feel free to disagree with me, I'm not the owner of the truth): I would hate if this got added in game.
First, because I love both Minthara and Halsin, and I was so happy when Minthara was finally recruitable in a good run, because I personally, don't find evil runs as appealing, so it was nice to have her while still enjoying what I was doing. And Minthara is such a fun character and I loved every second I got to spend with her.
Second, I don't think it's a choice/scene that makes sense. Why implent the option to recruit Minthara on a good run and then make the player choose between her or Halsin? Because, if you can't have both, why go through all the pains of doing a good run, and just stick to an evil one if you want Minty? Like, it goes back to what it was previously, making the option to have her in a good run pointless.
Third, this scene, TO ME, feels incredible out of character for Halsin. Look, I'm not saying that the two of them need to be best friends, but it feels weird that the one guy who believes that time heals, that people and circumstances can change, a guy who believes in freedom and all that, would give an ultimatum because Minthara, under mind control of the Absolute, wanted to end the Grove. If Halsin knew that Minthara didn't do those things willingly, that she didn't have a choice and is not proud of the hold that the Absolute had on her, I doubt he wouldn't offer her the same grace of possible change and healing as he does others.
I'm ok if this scene was something like the confrontation between Lae'zel and Shadowheart. The two have a fight, due to different beliefs, and Tav 'picks' a side to end the conflict, but ultimatly, both stay and eventually, get over their animosity towards the other.
But, in my opinion, forcing the player to have to let go of a companion that they fought hard to get, it's just so absolutely shitty and feels like a betrayal to what their characters are. And sincerely, it would make me feel very negative towards Halsin, if he wasn't willing to listen to what Minthara had to say and was forcing the player to choose.
With all of that out of the way, I want to address data mines over all. To make a long story short, I'm not a fan of datamined content. I think it's stuff we (players) were not even supposed to know, and when datamined stuff gets discovered, it's spread around the fandom like canon when it's not. Sure, there is a possibility that this stuff might get implemented but it is not a guarantee, and it should not be treated as canon. What is canon is what is IN the game, what we can see, hear, find, interact, not datamined material.
Also, please people, if you're talking about datamined material, MAKE IT KNOWN SOMEWHERE IN YOUR POST. More than once was I left very confused by people talking about character interactions that weren't in game, only for later to discover it was datamine.
Finally, to end on the Minthara-Halsin situation. I think these two have a lot of potential together. I've been told by a friend that a reason this would be implemented would be because of the 'issue' of these two characters sharing a tent, which I hope it's not the 'reason', bc that's such a non issue, and the two of them having to share a place is exactly the type of potential for like, interactions and dialogues;
Just stop trying to pit two bad bitches against each other and let Minthara and Halsin be together.

HEYY cha cha slides into your ask box what are ur thoughts on sashamilla first meeting and what do u think it was like?? are u a li po doc truther or do u think it was something else!!
Tumblr media
Thanks for sending me this great question!
I don't know about you, but I have a hard time committing to one idea when it comes to branching off from what is strictly canon. Even then, I am big on character exploration in all forms. Pre-canon, canon, whatever. It is the biggest draw to the game, for me, these characters are lovingly written and set such a fantastic groundwork which a person can really run with if they want to. So, personally, I do not exactly stick with one story… sorry if it's confusing, but I don't commit myself to imagining it happened just one way. There are many ways to take two characters and consider how many ways they could interact. Why limit ourselves? It is a great exercise in understanding others. Below the cut is a lot of writing on trauma, pain, and grief, just a warning.
Sasha wasn’t intended to be her therapist at first. He was called in by his supervisor to see if Milla could be rehabilitated at all. She had promise as a powerful Psychonaut, but her mind was wracked with grief. She had been hospitalized due to her struggles with mental illness more than once, compounding her inability to recover. Milla possessed a strong desire to help others but was unable to help herself through her own insurmountable grief. Sasha, being relatively low in the ranks of his division himself, saw it as just another routine recruiting assignment. He approached it with scientific curiosity and not much else.
Milla's mental landscape before Sasha becomes her therapist: it's constructed from the trauma she went through. It's all she can think about, it is her entire identity. It is all-consuming because she can't cope with it. Every day the walls are closing in more and more, driving her further inward into a mental prison. She can't ask for help, she doesn't feel as though she deserves it, she is afraid of it. She may punish herself due to a self-prescribed guilt. Likely socially withdrawn from all relationships, apathetic, joyless. Any joy may remind her of her emotional pain. The two could be inseparable for her, in fact. In acute grief it is not uncommon for one to paradoxically associate happiness with trauma.
Visually, everything that used to bring her joy is present, though corrupted by emotional pain. Quilts, piano keys, crocheted afghans, a record player, melting vinyl, bedtime storybooks, children's paintings. All of it deformed hideously; burning, or burnt. Her grief has twisted her perception of the past. She cannot enjoy her memories as they once were. They have been overwritten by Milla's tremendous suffering.
As any good therapist, Sasha’s mission is to give Milla the tools to reframe the event that is plaguing her mind. Since she is unable to express any control over destructive thinking patterns such as intrusive thoughts, it is pretty easy to see why Sasha would be the one called in to help her. Maybe at this point in his training/career, he has successfully completed this process in himself and recreated such success in other struggling individuals. When he arrives, Milla is despondent. Sasha feels a strong connection with her immediately through a common thread of distress: acute, unresolved grief.
Well, I am going to go on a little tangent here, but I promise it is somehow relevant. Sasha is a very interesting character because he exists in a delicate and realistic balance of qualities. He is intensely curious. He has a strong sense of morality, but might not always choose to follow it. The two go hand in hand. Sasha must determine constantly whether or not a certain action is worth its moral implications. That is a subjective art, to him. Someone who values scientific progress for the betterment of society might not pay so much attention to the sacrifices he feels he must make to achieve his goals. That is to say, to some extent he believes in justification. A lack of direct (or adequately responsible) oversight can further develop such a mindset. As well, a person can justify much to himself if his actions are endorsed and/or were prior committed by a role model. All this to say I believe Sasha has gone through a lot of learning in his life to get to where we see him in the games. He still struggles with this quandary, obviously, but he is certainly not a cold, heartless scientist. His love for others is likely just as intense as Milla’s, though maybe in a bit more of an abstract way. He understands his role and responsibilities as a Psychonaut. He likes to think he understands when he can or shouldn’t overstep those boundaries. Most of the time, anymore, Sasha is relatively disciplined in his practice through sheer experience. No, I don’t think this was always the case.
Personally, I think he would at first approach the case of Milla with his usual ravenous curiosity. He struggles to stay in the present with her. He gets ahead of himself. He wants her to succeed almost too much, too quickly, not solely for her benefit. I can see Milla daring to put him in his place over this, too. His demeanor doesn’t put her on edge. She may even think to herself that his aloof appearance is comical (perhaps endearing…?). She can tell this man tries to distance himself from the world. It seems to her that he has a need to emotionally separate himself from everyone around him not from a sense of superiority; rather, it is as if he is trying to escape distress. Thus, Milla understands nearly all the time he is successful in enforcing strict interpersonal distances. I genuinely think Milla is the first one to ever get around his defenses, if only to drive him up the wall, because she thinks he is hilarious, and because she gets sick of seeing him so closed off. It’s the only thing she enjoys doing for a time. Rather than feeling humiliated by this, Sasha is humbled, if not outright impressed with Milla. It helps to push their relationship in a positive direction.
It’s a turning point for both of them. Sasha was used to talent alone being his main advantage on missions to help others. He hadn’t fulled grasped what it meant to be a therapist, that it is a give-and-take relationship for both parties. Through Milla’s help he recognizes this was a major cause of his past failures. On the other hand, Milla isn’t miraculously cured. Sasha helps her disable the trauma response and pave the road to her recovery. It’s still there, it just isn’t dominating her mental landscape anymore. Sasha marks her down for having serious potential both in recovery and as an agent.
I have read some great & engaging writing where they start out as colleagues assigned to the same mission. Those were really enjoyable, too, and I think those still adequately explore this interesting antagonistic dynamic they may have had upon first introduction. A lot of people look at these two through their surface level personality traits and are shocked to see them get along so well. I don’t think they are opposites at all, though! Sasha & Milla are totally on the same wavelength. I tend to imagine that neither of them realize their similarities at first, too. Then someday something just clicks and their brains practically fuse together for life. There is.. definitely something to be said about dating your therapist, though, LOL. I can’t say I endorse that. I think it wouldn’t be a problem because they later become partnered agents. The Psychonauts probably have a policy against colleagues fraternizing, but whatever. As if anyone would (could) separate Sasha & Milla.
Ohh and a postscript note. In this little space of thinking I like to imagine that Sasha gives up smoking through Milla’s treatment. She can’t stand the smell of it at first. He has to go back to his hotel and take three showers and rent clothes before he can even do intake with her. It takes ages for Milla to associate the stench of cigarettes with Sasha alone. Eventually, I’m sure Milla does exposure therapy of some sort so she doesn’t feel as distressed around fires/smoke she can’t avoid. This totally is without ulterior motives on Sasha’s part, phobia control is an important part of Psychonaut agent training... He does not miss smoking at all...
Tumblr media
Here's a sketch for the concept I didn't do much with because drawing Milla in distress wasn't fun at all.

re: 735659653880496128 - imo these are all really good points, but I'd like to add in an element of nuance to the whole "Earth sneezes and they're in first"/Earth puts in minimum effort stereotype, because I think it's fundamentally misunderstanding the problem.
Earth may have a slight advantage in the calculus, but you know the real reason they win dom? Because they're "the dom flight" and people who want to be really active in dom disproportionately transfer to Earth Flight!!
Allow me to make a deeply nerdy comparison. In World of Warcraft raiding culture, once upon a time the Horde faction had a marginal advantage in pve. Ever since, it has been THE faction for raiding, even though things have since been rebalanced, because people who self-identify as ~serious raiders~ are more likely to choose that faction (and then guilds move over there to have better pools of players to recruit from, and so on and so forth). In order for things to change, the scales would have to unfairly tip in the other direction; because the Horde advantage is cultural now rather than mechanical, things simply being mechanically fair merely preserves the status quo.
That is what we are looking at with Earth Flight and dom culture. They really do work tremendously hard over there, and I can only begin to imagine how frustrating it must be to them that they constantly are told that they don't. If Dom were completely rebalanced this second, I'd bet an imp scroll Earth would be only marginally impacted and very little would actually change.
So what can we do? We can continue to advocate for balance changes, yes. But above all we have to stick it out with our own flights(!!), rather than being trapped in these self-fulfilling prophecies avoid which flights are "good" or "bad" at dom.

tbh i'm actually kind of pissed at larian. regardless of if it's sticking it to hasbro or not, they're leaving the game in a potentially awful state and not delivering on promises they made, like the upper city. You also have SWEN talking about shit that could have been like ketheric's recruitment and what not, which stirs the pot even more and makes me angry. Like stop talking about it. we're already upset enough.
These are all very valid critiques, anon! I have many thoughts but I’ll put everything under the cut since I got a little long-winded because I’m passionate about video games in general.
I do play a bit of Devil’s Advocate here but please note I am not attacking you personally or trying to direct any hate towards anybody at all! This ask honestly gave me space to vent some thoughts I’ve had for months about this game. I did my best to offer nuanced perspectives and acknowledge my own biases. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, including their own disappointments and praises for Larian, Swen, the actors, and all involved in the making/maintaining (or lack thereof) of BG3.
TLDR: We shouldn’t put Larian on a pedestal as the Best Studio Ever, but we don’t have to grab our pitchforks and say they’re the worst studio ever either. If BG3 is a disappointment it might be because Larian flew a little too close to the sun trying to squeeze 80% of a functional D&D experience into a digital video game package, when (in my opinion) those two game genres are almost inherently designed to not mesh well, disappointing one fan while satisfying another.
———
Point #1, Idk how much Larian is sticking it to Hasbro but Hasbro IS a greedy corporation who has no idea how to make video games and I very highly suspect they’ve been making demands of Larian’s team that are impossible to meet without destroying the work ethic (and health/mental health/financial stability, etc) of Larian’s team. Hasbro just sees dollar signs. Larian isn’t necessarily as interested in milking BG3 for all it’s worth.
If they were, we’d be paying for Upper City in a DLC, and we’re not. Instead they’re choosing to pivot to a fresh new project that isn’t beholden to Hasbro or the demands of WOTC. Does it feel like they’re abandoning the game? Yeah, kinda. But if Swen says that his team looked visibly relieved to move on to something new, that gives me warning bells. Not against Swen, but about the crunch standard of games industries as a whole and possibly against Hasbro or WOTC. I’d much rather his team take care of their very human selves than grind themselves to ultimate burnout working on a game that is functionally complete, if buggy in places and not satisfying for some players because they didn’t get the content they wanted.
There is no perfect game, after all.
And honestly I’d say the same of any AAA studio too. I am consistently frustrated with game studios firing whole departments for the sake of retaining profits and treating their employees like content robots. Games should not be made at the expense of anyone’s physical or mental health, but unfortunately that’s The Industry Standard. (And personally I think Larian or at least Swen is uncomfortable with that.)
(Also I think people forget that making a game the size of BG3 requires the talents and hard work of hundreds of people. Larian was working with, what, 400 people? And that was after they hired like 250+ to even rise to the challenge of making BG3. Who are we even pointing the finger at for all these issues? Swen? He’s one man.)
Should they have promised something they couldn’t deliver? No. But also, I have no idea what issues led them to cutting the content, either. What’s done is done.
BG3 will be an obsolete game in a year or soon anyway, not because Larian isn’t working on it anymore, but because the games industry is just So. Freaking. Big. and pumps out thousands of games a year. Like, I hate to say it, but people are already dropping BG3 for other games like Dragon’s Dogma 2 because DD2 is shiny, new, and has a bonkers character creator.
And there’s nothing wrong with that! We’re not built to play (or work on) a narrative-focused game for 5-7 years, regardless of what any die-hard Destiny fan tells you (note: multiplayers without narrative get a pass purely because the focus isn’t on the narrative, but on collaborative play).
If a game is no longer fun to play, move on and find something that scratches your itch. Go back and play old games! There are so many things out there to explore. I have a To Be Played pile literally right now, a backlog of games I haven’t tried out yet. I’m sure many others do too.
Point #2 (and here I could be wrong, if I’m not already wrong in my opinions above), but they’re not entirely abandoning the game like…at the drop of a hat. They’re still promising at least a handful of hotfixes and at least one more patch with new evil epilogue endings (among other things).
Does that get us Upper City? Likely not. Does that add enough content to give Wyll a more well-rounded storyline, elevate all the romances to Astarion levels of cutscenes and dialogue, and finish Karlach’s questline with an actual solution for her heart? Also likely not. Is it precious to be mad about these losses? No! Be mad!! Wyll deserves justice!!!
I’d love to explore Upper City. I’m a huge advocate for Wyll getting more/better representation. If I could save Karlach without throwing her into Avernus I would in a HEARTBEAT. But these things aren’t in the game, and they likely won’t be. Larian made decisions to meet a (self-imposed? Hasbro imposed? Industry-relevant?) deadline that are ultimately disappointing. We can absolutely acknowledge that we’re disappointed.
But I don’t necessarily think Larian is just being lazy about these decisions, though. At the end of the day we have no idea what contracts Larian is under, what hell the developers have been through, either from the game industry, Hasbro, rabid fans, or excessively cruel critics, or what technical/gameplay/scheduling/financial issues they ran into at various parts of development.
Like the Ketheric thing (Point #3). Was it bad PR to bring up that Ketheric was a “kill your darlings” decision late in development around the same time you’re openly promoting the end of your relationship with BG3? Yeah. Totally. But I’m not surprised they had to cut something like that. Games, movies, books do that all the time. How many deleted scenes from movies have we seen where it could have changed the whole narrative (maybe even made it better) if it had just stayed in? I can think of a handful. It sucks, but trust me, it hurts the writers and developers way more to cut content they’ve poured money and time and heart and soul into than it hurts us, the players who would never know the wiser if they hadn’t said anything.
But also, the game is ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE. On PC you have to have 150GB free just to install it. Can you imagine how big it would be if they had shoved everything they wanted into it, even if they had delayed the game a while to make it happen? 150GB is a lot.
For perspective, that puts it on par with a very, very, VERY tiny sector of PC games at about the same level (or higher) of GB requirements, including Red Dead Redemption 2 (a fantastic open world game that still holds up in 2024), Microsoft Flight Simulator (which requires 150GB because it’s literally just flying through high quality renders of actual Earth), Forspoken (everyone says all the GB went to graphics here and I believe them), Star Wars: Jedi Survivor (which only has about 50 hours of playable content, allegedly), basically any VR game, and ARK: Survival Evolved which comes in at a whopping 400 GB mostly because of DLC. In other words, games that big get that big either because of graphics or like a hundred DLCs.
BG3 manages to fit in gorgeous cinematics, a super complex spell-combat system, a more or less streamlined video game build for complex D&D combat rules and mechanics, 10 potential companions, 8 romances among those companions, several large maps to explore, and branching narratives that would take you days to read every scrap of dialogue for (I’ve downloaded the datamined files for Patch6, and there are whole leagues of dialogue, encounters, and bits that are in the game, unbugged, that most of us pass by because we don’t explore enough). You want to know where most of the GB goes? It goes towards sustaining a D&D combat/narrative structure that was originally never built with video game constraints in mind.
Do you know how many conditions/status effects there are in the game? Over 1100. 1100+ unique descriptions and titles for conditions that debuff or buff your character or your enemies, granting hundreds of actual gameplay affects. Do you know how many spells there are across the 12 playable classes and all unique spells for enemies and allies? Like 400, if we’re getting picky and splitting hairs over stuff like Rolan’s Magic Missile being different than the usual Magic Missile or if we’re splitting out something like Disguise Self into its 32 different variations. Each spell needs a different icon, a different graphic effect, and it needs to do the right kind of damage and cause the right kind of condition or effect, some of which are immediate, others which linger.
We can speak with dead with hundreds of characters. That’s a lot of dialogue. We can talk to ANY named NPC. That’s a lot of dialogue! We can talk to any animal, with or without speak with animals enabled. That’s a lot of dialogue!!
A single playthrough where I try to explore as much as possible takes me 150 hours or more. I have 500 hours in this game and I’ve only got 4 characters and I’ve only finished 2 of them. This game is mind-bogglingly big. Even if it’s not the biggest game in history ever, or even the biggest game by the time of its release, its BIG.
The biggest critique I would have here is one that I’ve had since I first started playing the game, and it’s that D&D systems and video games don’t mesh comfortably well. I think that Larian got distracted trying to make the ultimate D&D experience, catering to a demographic that is known to ignore plot and pursue shenanigans, and Larian felt the need to build in a lot of shenanigans.
I think they got a little overzealous about it, and that’s where we have missing content, and a lot of fluff that isn’t always plot-relevant. If the game feels unfinished, it’s because Larian started too many threads, and while there are endings to all of those threads, many of them feel rushed or unsatisfactory. Why do they feel unsatisfactory? Because we’re offered so much freedom early on, only to be pulled back into the much more limited narrative constraints of a video game at the end. Because the game has to end eventually, unlike a D&D campaign which could go on or explore many other possibilities. But by act 3 in a 150 GB game, we’re running out of time and space.
And yes that’s disappointing as hell and Larian could and arguably SHOULD have made different decisions on what to focus on.
But ultimately, you just can’t fit a full-on, any-choice-goes D&D experience in a game that needs to be packaged neatly enough to run on most PCs or consoles, and Larian was ambitious as hell to try. Contrary to popular belief, I think they did pretty freaking well given the challenge, and no, it isn’t perfect, and no, to confess to my own bias, I don’t have the same complicated history with the game that early access or release day players have because I bought the game like 2 months after it was out and patched twice. But they’ve clearly built a game that people love so much they’re upset there isn’t more of it, or at least upset it isn’t the best it can be.
But sometimes we have to be realistic too. I can only imagine how many more bugs or render issues we’d get if they did try to shove in Upper City at this point. Games can only be so big before they start to become too much for the systems that try to run them and I don’t want the games industry veering towards making games an elitist hobby for only the rich and elite who can afford expensive rigs and $100 games.
(And also, I’m not at all upset that for $70 bucks I got 500 hours of gameplay and I’m not 100% sick of it yet. When EA and Activision are getting players to pay hundreds in micro transactions and DLC and dangling extra maps and new missions behind paywalls? Bish, please, I’m good. You want to talk about an unfinished experience? Dragon Age: Inquisition made us pay for our epilogue content as a DLC. At least Larian built theirs in for free from the start.)
Anyway.
All that said, I’m sure if Larian could turn back the clock and start over, they’d make different decisions about what to keep, cut, and refine. But we’re here now.
If I want to see anything from Larian right now, it’s a dedication to fix ongoing bugs that make the game unplayable or that block the narratives that they have built so that they play correctly (like with the Minthara romance). IDEALLY I’d like to see them add more content for companions other than Astarion, to equalize the romance experiences, but I’m not holding my breath (again, considering things like game development, actor schedules, contracts, etc).
While I’m sad about the permanent loss of stuff like the Upper City and disappointed by all the rushed questlines, I’d rather them fix the bugs that make the game un-fun to play and bow out gracefully once they’re sure the game won’t need constant supervision.
Besides, they’re working on cross-platform mod support, and mods are gonna add and mess with the game for many years to come, so we can pivot to support them instead while Larian works on its next game (and hopefully learns from its mistakes with BG3).

Synopsis: Basically a silly, sappy, kinda cliché soulmate au because I felt like it
Contains: wooyoung being his usual self, all of y/n's friends have soulmates and he's lonely, fluff, some attempts at humour.
[Word Count: 2.1k]
With the coming and going of his twentieth birthday that week, he was once more acutely aware that it had been so long – officially two years now– since he had received his soulmate mark and that he had yet to find that soulmate.
To make matters worse, it was only he who was single– all of his friends had already found their other half and boy did he envy them.
His eldest friend Hongjoong had been the first to find his soulmate and his was the experience that y/n was most jealous of. Hongjoong had simply clocked in at work on the afternoon of his eighteenth birthday, bumped into his colleague with whom he was already in love with and bam, soulmates!
Second had been the youngest member of their friend group; Jongho. Although he had turned eighteen and received his mark later than his friends, he still beat half of them to it, finding his soulmate within less than a year after. To be honest, though, she had found him. Jongho had been well known in the community and within his schools for his excellent soccer skills and with that buzz of being the top player floating around, it was difficult to find him. When the local soccer club was short a member the captain herself had taken it upon herself to find Jongho and recruit him. It hadn't taken much to get him to join, not when he discovered that the woman with big brown eyes and sass for days was his soulmate.
For a long while following that it had been only y/n and Yeosang who had yet to find their soulmate. They had like a little solidarity bond going for them during that time. When the other two members of their friend group were out with their partners or doing 'coupley things', Yeosang and he would stick together. They would hang out together and had each other to grumble about being single to or after a few drinks they would hype each other up with "Who needs soulmates anyways!?". It felt good having someone who could relate. That little dynamic came to an end when one semester Yeosang decided to switch majors.
He had gotten lost on campus and couldn't find one of his new classes and had rushed to the office to seek out directions. He had asked the first person he came across, mistakenly assuming he was staff, but that person had no idea where he was either and was new to not only the university but the Republic of South Korea itself.
The stranger's Korean had failed him in his excitement at finding his soulmate and he had switched to rapid-fire Italian. Yeosang had not a clue what he was saying and simply stood there, staring at him in awe with bright eyes and a huge smile forming on his face.
Y/n had happened to be with Yeosang and had witnessed the scene with his own eyes. Yeosang and his soulmate had been equal parts awkward and adorable and he couldn't help but smile at the fond memory.
Admittedly, he had been a little salty when he realised that he was officially on his own but he couldn't stay salty forever. Alessandro grew on him very quickly and so did the happiness he brought Yeosang.
So yeah, he had been left to wallow in his soulmatelessness and watch his friends fall deeply in love with their soulmates. He really couldn't help but long for his own soulmate. He wanted to be just as happy and in love as his friends. He wanted to experience what they were experiencing. He didn't want to be alone anymore.
That left Y/N alone though and as he watched his friends be deeply in love with their soulmates, he couldn't help but long for his own. He wanted to be that happy and in love. He wanted to experience what his friends were experiencing. He wanted to not be alone anymore.
Sometimes he would argue that that loneliness benefited him a little. He had more time to spend on his studies. His excellent grades in high school had lured him into a false sense of security, letting him think that university would be just as simple. He had been incorrect and his first university exam marks had been a slap in the face and a serious wake up call.
He also had more time to daydream. He would lie and tell you that those daydreams were constructive and that he was thinking up characters and scenarios he could write about or put away for later when he had a chance to continue working on the sci-fi novel he had in drafts. Honestly, though, at least eighty percent of that time was spent on thinking about his soulmate.
He had so many questions and thoughts. He wondered what they were like. He wondered what they looked like. Were they a boy or a girl or someone in between like Hongjoong's partner? How old were they? Were they in Korea too or were they a foreigner like Alessandro?
One thing he was certain of however was that they must be a very interesting person if the words he had woken up to on his eighteenth birthday were anything to go by.
He looked down at his left arm and lifted his sleeve a little. He smiled softly as he traced the words printed neatly into the skin of his forearm.
His phone vibrated in his pocket and he abruptly snapped back to reality. He pulled it out to check it.
Haribo
Where are you???
Shoot, he was meant to meet Jongho in the library for a study session!
He shot up from the bench he had taken a rest on and hurriedly gathered his things before speed-walking in the direction of the university library.
His headphones were on and blaring music and if it hadn't been for the hand tugging on his arm he wouldn't have realised someone was calling him.
He stopped walking, tugged his headphones down to rest around his neck and turned to see who the firm grip on his arm belonged to. He was met by the sight of a six-foot-something guy and a smaller dark-haired boy that he discovered to be the source of the hold on his arm.
He barely had a moment to properly take in the strangers or ask questions before the dark-haired boy spoke up, voice a little louder and more excited than necessary.
"What's your opinion on beans on toast?"
He was taken aback and was too surprised and confused to even register what was going on.
"W-what on toast?" He stuttered, eyes slightly widened. This hadn't been on his bingo card for a Tuesday afternoon on campus.
The tall boy gripped the shorter, dark-haired boy by the back of his shirt collar, not unlike one grabs a misbehaving puppy, and tugged him away from a bewildered y/n.
"Wooyoung-ah, how many times have I told you that you can't just grab people like that? What happened to your manners?" He scolded.
Wooyoung huffed dramatically and pouted, "Hyunggg, it's an important question. I've been wondering what the locals would think ever since we came back from our trip to England."
The taller man rolled his eyes, "You're ridiculous. We're late for class and you're worried about food and harassing strangers."
Y/n was suddenly frozen as he realised something. As he watched them argue back and forth his eyes settled on the one the tall boy had called Wooyoung. His heart was racing and the skin on his arm felt almost like it was tingling. Was he imagining things or..?
"Yunho-yah, listen, you eat anything. Just because you like- "
Wooyoung suddenly stilled, his eyes widening and his jaw dropping slightly.
Yunho frowned, "Woo? What's wrong?"
Wooyoung ignored him and turned quickly to face Y/n, "Can I... Can I see your arm?"
Yunho gasped softly as he realised what was happening and stepped back a little to give them some space.
Y/n's heart was pounding and he could feel a drop of sweat form on his temple. He felt excitement begin to take over but he tried his best to keep it down, trying to not get his hopes up and end up breaking his own heart if this wasn't what he thought it was. He swallowed thickly before responding to Wooyoung's question with a nod.
Wooyoung reached for his arm again, his grip a lot gentler than earlier, and he carefully rolled up his sleeve.
He gasped softly as he saw the words there and softly traced his index finger over them. Y/n could feel goosebumps rise on his skin at his touch despite how warm he was feeling in that moment.
Then Wooyoung laughed and Y/n's heart swelled at the sound.
Wooyoung used his hold on him to pull him towards him and buried him in a warm hug.
"I can't believe my first words to my soulmate are so ridiculous," He murmured into Y/n's shoulder with a grin.
Y/n couldn't believe it. He had found him, his soulmate. He wrapped his arms around him, returning the hug with just as much enthusiasm as Wooyoung and Wooyoung squeezed him tight once before releasing him.
He smiled wide and held a hand out, "I'm Wooyoung."
Wooyoung's smile was contagious and he couldn't help but return it.
He reached out and held Wooyoung's proffered hand, "I'm Y/N."
They stood like that for a moment longer, finally taking the opportunity to properly look at each other.
His eyes traced Wooyoung's features. He had dark hair which Y/N now realised had a layer of blond under it giving it what he decided was an Oreo vibe. It looked long enough to tie up. He admired his beautiful tanned skin, his toned figure (did he work out?), his deep brown eyes, the curve of his nose and lastly, his lips.
He blushed and finally tore his eyes from Wooyoung, looking down at their joined hands instead.
Wooyoung chuckled at his sudden shyness and tugged him in for another hug. He let out a surprised yelp and stumbled but Wooyoung's strong arms caught him and held him tight. Wooyoung was going to be both a handful and clingy, he realised. He returned his embrace and buried his face in his neck– he didn't mind that and could definitely see himself getting used to this.
Wooyoung pulled away all too soon and y/n instantly missed the warmth of his body.
He had heard that people get rather attached to their soulmates very quickly but he didn't think it would be this fast.
"I can't believe I've found my soulmate and-" Wooyoung held him out at arm's length "He's gorgeous too."
Y/n smiled, "I could say the same."
Wooyoung raised an eyebrow, "Oh? Then why don't you?"
He looked away with a blush and Wooyoung laughed. That was quickly becoming one of Y/n's favourite sounds.
Wooyoung was still beaming at him, "You're shy, aren't you? That's okay."
Someone cleared their throat and the two boys suddenly remembered that Yunho was there too.
"I'm so sorry to interrupt but we're running horribly late for a class, Woo."
"I'm sure the teacher will understand," Wooyoung said dismissively with a wave of his hand.
"Wooyoung, that woman hates you. You set her hair on fire last year."
Wooyoung looked quickly between his soulmate and Yunho, his cheeks flushing.
"Hyung!" He hissed.
Yunho laughed, "What? Worried I scare him off? I don't think that's likely."
Wooyoung glanced at his soulmate who was basically glowing with joy and amusement. Yeah, maybe Yunho was right. But still.
Wooyoung rushed to explain, "I swear it was an accident I-"
"Wooyoung. We need to go, you can tell him all about it later," Yunho interrupted.
"Since when did you become the adult?" Wooyoung sulked.
"Since San put me on babysitting duty," Yunho retorted
"Hyung! I am not a baby."
Yunho looked at Y/N, "I want to say 'Sorry, he isn't always like this' but I'd be lying."
Wooyoung's cheeks were burning and he covered his face with his hands.
Y/n chuckled and reached forward to take Wooyoung's hands away from his face, "It's alright, I like it."
And he wasn't lying. Wooyoung was definitely going to bring some excitement into his otherwise dull life.
"As I said though, I hate to cut this short but I'm sure Y/n also has somewhere to be."
He nodded reluctantly and Wooyoung's face fell. He really was like a puppy.
"Give me your number and I'll call you later, okay?" He held his phone out so Wooyoung could type his number into it.
"Promise?" Wooyoung asked as he took it.
He nodded and Wooyoung grinned brightly before quickly typing his number in. He quickly called himself from y/n's phone.
"There. Now I have yours too!" He announced as he cut the call.
He returned the cell phone and squeezed his hand before Yunho was once more dragging him away by the back of his collar.
"See you later!" Wooyoung called out with a wave as he let his tall friend drag him down the walkway.
Y/n smiled and waved him off.
He stood rooted in place still for a while after Wooyoung and Yunho had disappeared from sight, smiling stupidly.
He'd found him.
Then reality struck him.
Jongho was waiting for him.
Hopefully, Jongho would be more understanding than Wooyoung's professor but somehow he doubted it.
