Okay so can we talk about how hilarious it is when Lex Luthor is a good dad to Kon? Like man made a clone son of his ex and said ex turns out to be a shitty dad to the clone son while lex luthor, known supervillain, is just a good dad.
Like: kon is feeling unwanted at clarks place so he just. Heads over to lex's and gets fathered while hes there. Kon gets bounced around like a child of divorce for a while before he ends up spending his time between the kent farm (ma and pa are literally the most important ever) and lex's rich guy penthouse.
Whenever lex and clark get into arguments about kon, lex is the one to actually think about whats best for kon long term. Lex doing lame dad shit with kon, trying to take him fishing and birdwatching and shit.
Just. The comedic potential.

BatFamily and Their Batman Ship:
Alfred - BatCat. Even though he disaproves Selina criminal life he enjoys her company enough it doesn't really matters. He thinks Selina and Bruce are perfect for each other.
Jim Gordon - BatCat and BruHarvey before discovering that Batman and Bruce were the same people he kindda just belived Catwoman was Batman's soulmate and Harvey was Bruce's tragic soulmate. Is more inclined towards Bruharvey because he thinks Bruce is the only one who can get Harvey's back and he and Harvey really bonded working together and he saw Harvey as an younger brother before Two-Face.
Dick - BatCat or SuperBat. He loves both Clark and Selina and both were basically parents for him in a way or another. He is very disapointed in Bruce for never acting on either of his two very obvious crushes. He is even more disapointed after Khoa breaks Bruce's heart.
Dick is an anti-GhostBat and Khoa will have to do a lot of work to prove his worth to Bruce's eldest child. He also disaproves of BruHarvey.
Barbara - BruHarvey or BatCat, just like Dick she grew whatching Selina sending Bruce the heart eyes and also respecting Selina as the ultimate girlboss. But while Dick was seeing Superman sending his dad love eyes, Barbara was seeing her uncles Harvey and Bruce weirdly pinning. And while Dick and Harvey never got along at all, Harvey was very close to the Gordon family as a whole and used to babysit Babs a lot.
Jason - Brutalia and WonderBat. He accepts some of Bruce's other love interests, but he doesn't like them. Talia means to Jason the same that Selina means to Dick, she is basically his mother and he adores her.
While Jason would support Wonderbat as well is important to add that he thinks Diana could and should do better. He thinks the same of Talia, but he also knows how much she likes Bruce and believes Bruce does act better when with her. He is starting to think BruHarvey is also not that awfull of an idea.
Cassandra - She saw most of Bruce's romantic phases with people and she has no fix idea. She just wants Bruce to be happy. If she had to choose one option would probably be Talia, but in parts is because she has a tiny crush on Talia.
Tim - None. Tim doesn't think anyone is good enough for Bruce. Or better put he thinks Bruce is too emocionally fragille for a relationship. Anyone who dates Bruce will have to deal with an overprotective Tim.
He specially distrusts Selina. The closest to a Bat ship he has is BatLatern cause Tim was the Robin during the time Bruce and Hal were having the weird "chair" friendship and it kindda reminded Drake of him and Kon. Still he is very anti Batman dating and will make a PowerPoint presentation of "things I'm going to do with you if you ever hurt Bruce."
Stephanie - Thinks Bruce is too much of a loser to date. Does ship BatCat. She likes Selina and like all Robins saw her and Bruce weird flirt, she thinks they match. She also supports Brutalia, mostly because Damian convinced her. She just really doesn't care. Will write trash fic about Batman and his Rogues. When Riddler was living at her home she would specially make fun of his crush on Bruce. But is more her being a little gremlim than anything else.
Damian - Brutalia. Duh. He wants his parents to be an item and he wants it now. Will do a parent trap if necessary. Sees good points in other ships, he actually gets along well with Selina and with Clark, but I mean, he is on his mother's side.
Duke - Coudn't care less. There is only one superhero love life he cares and it's Black Lightining and only because now that his mother is unjokerized she and Jefferson are actually kindda cute together. He loves Bruce but that man's love life is just too messy for him to have an opinion on. While not as protective as Tim, Duke is still very protectice of Bruce.
Bao - GhostBat. This child of divorce just wants to see his parents get back together and he will foght the other child of divorce (Damian) over it.
[I can't imagine neither Kate nor Helena even participating of such debate because both are really not intererested in Bruce's weird love life. I also have no idea what Harper, Cullen, Maps or Luke would think].
All members of the batfam hate BatJokes.
Disclaimer: there is very specific situations with different ships, for example I personally believe that Lego Dick does shipp BatJokes and Unburied Babs ships RiddleBat. But this are very specific versions of the characthers and not the general norm.

clouds between their knees
‘Robin, anything on your end?’ Batman asked over the comm. There’d been rumors of a gang meeting tonight with multiple possible locations. Bats took the most likely one while Robin, Batgirl and Spoiler were checking out the others. Cass and Steph’s leads were busts so Kon was prepared to take a peek before grappling to B’s location. And if his grapple was a little loose and he was going a little too fast, well who could tell otherwise?
“Not yet,” Kon grunted quietly as he shimmied quickly in through the broken window and down into the warehouse. “It’s dark in here so I’m not expecting much but I’ll check just to be sure.” It would be quicker to fly or just bust down the whole wall but Batman taught him better than that over the last three years. Besides, it wasn’t just his legacy he was messing with. Unlike when he was Superboy, he was part of something bigger and had people in his corner.
“Ok, I’m in,” he gracefully landed on the dusty floor and crept forward. He flipped up the lenses of his domino to do a quick Xray sweep and Bingo! Conner grinned when he took in the scene happening below him. “Jackpot B, I got the high beams up and there’s a hidden basement. I see Black Mask and, oh man, Red Hood is out in the open. We finally got him.”
‘Do not engage without me, I’m coming on your location now. 15 minutes,’ Batman said before signing off. Kon wanted to roll his eyes, his dad was so overprotective sometimes.
‘You better bring him in. As much as I love helping Oracle, I am So tired of house arrest,’ Tim grumbled over the line.
‘He’s made vocal threats against Robin, it was necessary,’ Batman grunted. Even if he wasn’t bulletproof, he wouldn’t let Tim go out with some maniac with Robin vendetta on the loose. Tim always groaned that Kon took Robin whenever there were dangerous missions as if he was secretly hoping to get maimed and killed. Sometimes it was a full time job keeping his big brother from self destructing.
“I won’t engage B but it’s sealed up good so I can’t see or hear much. I’m gonna get into the vents and get more intel for when you arrive,” Kon said as he quickly cased the empty warehouse before finding a space just big enough for him to wedge into. He really hoped he didn’t inherit Clark’s big shoulders because this would be impossible if he were any bigger. It was already getting harder for him and Tim to share the Robin name and pretend they were the same person.
He lightened his weight a bit as he made his way through until he had a good view of the proceedings. Looks like they were arguing over the ‘green stuff’, ugh lame, couldn’t they just say money but something caught his attention.
“Hood looked up at me,” Kon whispered thoughtfully. As soon as Kon had come into the vent, Hood’s helmet had twitched ever so slightly in his direction. Kon didn’t like to brag but he was pretty good at what he did, it would be next to impossible for some hood to clock him that far away. “Could be a coincidence or he might had infrared or motion detectors in his helmet. If he’s been this hard to track down then we should treat him with caution, we don’t what kind of gear and intel he has.”
‘Oh nice to see we were able to train that muscle in your skull,’ Tim quipped as he snacked on something over the line.
“You’re just mad you can’t lift a cruise liner over your head, Boy Wimpy,” Kon bantered back even as he started slowly backing up.
‘Robin get out of there, now,’ Batman hushed as Red Hood leisurely stood up from the table and stretched suddenly, interrupting Black Mask mid sentence. Kon froze, worried about making any noise.
“This has been fun, Maskie but I’m afraid we’ll need to negotiate the terms of your unconditional surrender to me later,” Hood said lazily. His posture was casual but he was tense underneath. “We’ve got some visitors I’ve been meaning to talk to. So why don’t you put an egg in your shoe and fuck off,” he said before pulling a machine gun from underneath the table and began firing up at the vents.
‘Conner!’ He heard Tim and Bruce yell over the comms but Kon was too busy trying to get out as fast as he could. But the space was tight and currently being slammed full of bullets. Dozens of them bounced against his armor and skin and he thanked whoever would listen that he was out here instead of one of the others. He had almost retreated into the safer part of the vents when the whole thing collapsed on him.
He yelped and fell gracelessly onto the floor of the basement. Kon groaned for effect and pretended to curl up and nurse some injuries. He was really reaching inside his belt for smoke capsules and batarangs. Probably should leave some of the fake blood before he split, just to add to the illusion.
“Aw, the little birdie fell out of its nest,” Hood cooed, hefting the machine over one shoulder. “I thought I told you to scram, Sionis. If you’re not out of here in the next 30 seconds I’m putting holes in you, this one and I need to have a conversation.”
Kon heard the harried footsteps of Mask heading for the hills as Hood stomped forward, kicking away bits of the vent as he approached.
“I was hoping one of you brats would show tonight, especially you. I’ve almost got everything put in place so I’m finally ready to have some fun,” he said with a laugh in his voice as he slammed his boot into Kon’s gut. The boot was heavy, steel tipped and would probably have broken ribs but he didn’t really feel anything. Couldn’t say the same for Hood.
“Goddamn!” The crime lord shouted, jumping away and grabbing at his foot. “The hell is in your armor kid? How can you lug that heavy thing around?” Well Kon couldn’t always avoid getting shot so they had to make armor that was thicker, wouldn’t take damage so he could just pretend the bad guys missed. Plus he barely felt the extra weight even though it was heavier than B’s suit. “Guess I should be glad ole Brucie is taking better care of birds this time around.”
Thomas Conner Wayne tensed on the ground, his plans of escaping lost for a second. How could Hood possibly know that name? What was Kon gonna do about it?
“I’m gonna give you a present, Replacement,” Hood spat out. “A lot better than I got. I’m gonna beat the hell out of you, within an inch of your miserable, little life and then I’m gonna set the timer to blow this warehouse. I’ll give you a chance, won’t tie you up or stop you,” he leaned down close to Kon’s face, “I just wanna see if Bats really upgraded, if you’re better than the last one.” He straightened out.
“And don’t think Daddy Bat Wings is gonna come save your sorry ass, I know he was down by the docks. I made him think the meeting would be there so my crew is gonna divert him juuuust long enough for me to do what I need to. So,” there was a scraping sound, something dragging across the floor. “Shall we begin?”
Kon dove out of the way of what looked like a crowbar and crouched to his feet. He was still pretending to be injured but he needed to get out of here. Of course Hood couldn’t actually hurt him but it wouldn’t do for him to know that. They danced and dodged for a minute or two, but Hood was Good with a capital G. Kon was throwing all his skills and tools into trying to take the gangster down but it really was hard to avoid the vicious onslaught. The man got in a few hits every once in a while and Kon tried to react but he knew it wasn’t good enough and the man was suspicious.
“The hell is Bruce feeding you? Why won’t you stay down you little punk?” Hood yelled, whipping Kon hard across the face with the crowbar. He stumbled back against the table where a small box had been sitting. It knocked onto the floor and exposed something inside. Something green. Immediately, Kon’s knees buckled.
“Shit,” he groaned quietly to himself as he tried to inch away from the deadly rock but it was sapping all his energy. He’d only been exposed to Kryptonite once, at the Fortress because Bruce had insisted he knew what it felt like. But he was such a dad he only made Conner suffer a minute before he closed the box and took him home to Alfred for cookies. He didn’t think that’s how this story would end. He gagged as his stomach rolled and his lungs seized and if he could just move a little further away... Hood just stood there watching in stunned disbelief.
“Are you shitting me?” He asked quietly, stalking forward with surprising softness. Hood moved so much like a Bat, it was unnerving. “I brought that to prove to Mask that I really had stolen his shipment but it led me to an even bigger score.” He scooted the box closer to Kon who finally collapsed from the strain. “Now how did he get his hands on you, I wonder?”
“I’m sorry,” Kon whispered but he wasn’t talking to Hood, he was talking into the comm still plugged into his ear. “I’m sorry, I love you guys.”
“Get away from my brother!” Like some kind of angel, Kon’s blurry vision saw someone drop down from the hole in the vents and slam into Hood. He grabbed the box containing the Kryptonite and slammed it shut. Kon felt like he could breathe again. “Robin, get up. B’s delayed but I got a car outside.” It was Tim, hastily dressed in his Robin uniform and looking more mad than Kon had ever seen him.
“There’s two of you?” Hood cackled, swinging his crowbar. “Oh that’s rich, are you twins? Tell me, did he steal you from the Flashes or the Atom perhaps? you’re certainly small enough. Bad enough he replaced me once but twice over? That’s just cruel, Dad.”
“Robin, I said, get up!” Tim yelled, swinging his staff which Hood dodged. They didn’t work together often since they were playing the same role but Tim’s fighting prowess always left him in awe. And furious like he was now, he was doing a number to Hood. With the box shut, more of Kon’s strength returned until he was able to stagger to his feet. Tim was holding his own but, as Kon had discovered, the Red Hood was beast. He couldn’t do much as Tim was tossed around and slammed into the wall. His skin bruised, he bled as Hood got a knife against his throat with one hand while he unclipped his helmet with the other.
Conner had never given much thought to Jason Todd. No one really talked about him, only Tim when they snuck into each other’s rooms for sleepovers. From the way Tim described him with starry eyes, Jason had been bold but kind, sensitive and intelligent. The man before them was nothing like that, his pale face flushed with anger and his green eyes positively glowing with hate.
“Look at this,” He said gesturing to his knife covered in Tim’s blood. “You’re just as human as I am but we don’t matter, do we? We’re just pawns in his game, pawns he’ll sacrifice if he thinks it’ll give an advantage to his precious mission. That lug over there? He’s not just a pawn, he’s a knight. When B’s chewed up and spit out the rest of us, at least he’ll have his Kryptonian lapdog to keep the legacy going. I suggest you ditch the tights before you end up in the grave next to mine.”
“That’s not gonna happen,” Kon hissed, bodyslamming into Hood to get him away from Tim. He ripped the knife out of his hands and threw him roughly onto the table in the middle of the room. He laid there, not moving and Kon didn’t care right now if he was dead or not. He needed to get Tim help. Tim grabbed onto the box, holding it shut while Kon grabbed his brother and flew them out of the basement and into the smoggy Gotham sky.
XxX
“Hey, you awake?” Tim groaned and turned to look at Kon. It wasn’t unusual to have his brother at his bedside in the medical portion of the Cave. It was weird to see him on the cot next to him with the sunlamp on him. His face was still pale with a sickly green tinge to it but he seemed okay.
“Ugh why does my mouth taste like plastic?” Tim gripped, wiping clumsily at his face.
“Alf had to sedate you, your throat needed stitches and you were pretty banged up everywhere else,” Kon frowned and turned to look up at the ceiling. “You shouldn’t have gotten hurt at all.”
“No one knew Hood would be there or that there was Kryptonite in Gotham. There was literally nothing you could have done,” Jason’s crazed face sprang to mind. “No one saw that one coming.”
“I’m not gonna go easy next time,” Kon growled. “He hurt you, he wanted to do some messed up torture thing and that could’ve been you and I don’t care that he used to be a Bat. As far as I’m concerned, he ain’t anymore.”
“It’s not as easy as that,” Clark said, coming out of nowhere looking tired himself. He was still dressed in pajamas, Bruce must’ve called him in a panic. “How’re you boys holding up?”
“Been better,” Tim said at the same time as Kon. Tim snickered at Clark’s eyeroll. He should know better by now that they were a packaged deal. “How’s Bruce taking the revelation?”
“He sat here through your treatments but as soon as he heard you both were okay he buried himself in his work. I,” Clark paused. “I think he’ll need you again to get him through this, Tim. You saw how he was when Jason died. This won’t be pretty. Conner, we’d heard a large shipment of Kryptonite had been stolen but we didn’t think it had come through Gotham. We’ll be keeping tabs trying to track it down and out of enemy hands.”
“Appreciate that,” Kon groaned, “that sucked ass.”
“It might help to get out of the city for a bit,” Clark suggested cautiously and got Tim’s hackles up. “Bruce has the best sunlamps money can buy but it’s nothing like the real thing. Ma would love to take you for a week or two, to get your strength up. Or you could stay with Lois and I in Metropolis.”
“Thanks but my family is here and they need me,” Kon said shortly, rolling over to face away from Clark. Tim glared hard at the Super until he had the sense to back off.
“Right, of course, I’ll let you two rest and if you need me I’ll um...” He shuffled off, presumably to try and get B out of his own head. Tim huffed away his aggression.
Years ago, Clark hadn’t wanted the responsibility of taking Conner full time but now suddenly he was around all the time. He’d heard from B that Clark wasn’t happy with the current arrangement. He was upset that Kon was adopted while Tim was still living with his dad, that Kon took up Robin alongside Tim, upset that he hasn’t been Superboy in years and doesn’t use his powers while in costume. He’d had his chance to make a family, a legacy with Conner but now he was Tim’s brother and he’d open that Kryptonite box on the man if he tried to take Kon away.
“Kon-”
“I’m fine, Tim,” Conner said sharply. “Look, I’m not going anywhere especially not when all this is going down. I may be a Super in blood but I’m a Bat in every way that counts.” He turned and scooted over so they were face to face and whispered quietly so Clark couldn’t hear. “So how’re we gonna stop Jay before it tears Bruce apart?”
“I have some ideas,” Tim grinned. It ached that it had come to this, his idol rising from the grave to become a criminal. But Conner had become his brother over the days, months and years of training and school and stupid shenanigans. No one, not even Robin could come between them because they were Robin. Stronger together than they were alone. That’s what it meant to be a Bat.

This is way more headcanon than canon. But my personal no prize solve for the occasional and inconsistent "no metas in Gotham" thing is that Bruce doesn't love people operating in Gotham who have no personal ties to Gotham. And when there are people working in Gotham that have no personal ties to the city, he wants them to at least have personal ties to him. But on the rare occasions he has said it or something similar, it's been because "no metas in Gotham" is easier to wrap his head around and articulate in the heat of the moment. Like I said, headcanon really. But it's a headcanon I'm particularly fond of that, to the best of my knowledge, actually does work to smooth the edges of canonicity around the rare occasions this actually comes up.
SO LIKE I agree completely with your assessment of Bruce. I mean, he's a control freak, so really he'd like every vigilante in Gotham to be Under His Command. But at the very least, he rejects anyone who doesn't personally care about the city.
However I don't think you actually? need to use this as a repairative headcanon? To my knowledge, Bruce has never ever said "no metas in Gotham" nor even anything to that effect. The closest he gets is that Superboy (1994) example where he says (about Kon) that he doesn't want "his kind" around Cass. Which is still shitty and dumb, but tied more to him being overprotective/over-controlling, and Cass at that point being very reliant on her body reading abilities which are ill-equipped to deal with metas. Not that Kon is in any way a threat, but to Bruce, who dislikes him...
So yeah Bruce (a) doesn't like Kon specifically being in Gotham, (b) doesn't want random non-Gotham heroes meddling in His City [insert eye roll], and (c) didn't want a lot of metas around Cass. Which makes for a very easy game of fandom telephone, but afaik does not make for any actual "no metas in gotham" basis.
tldr I like your headcanon but it's more canon than you realized!

A Guide to Love and Coffee in the City of Crime: Ch. 1
Here Comes the Sun
AO3
For as long as she could remember, Marinette had spent one month every summer with her family in the states. Although they weren’t related by blood, they were still as close as any family could be. Her nona had met the Kents years ago, even before her Papa was born, and had grown close with them. A couple of years after her Papa was born, the Kents had their son, her Uncle Clark. Her Papa had practically grown up with Clark as his little brother. So it just made sense that, as the family continued to grow, they kept in contact. Like when Marinette was the first grandchild. And then Jon, the first grandson. And when Conner came into their lives (something that still confused Marinette). Although Conner’s introduction into the family was much later than hers and Jon, he wasn’t any less a part of their family. They cared about each other. All of them. So they wrote to each other. And had plenty of video calls throughout the year. And sent presents. And had family gatherings. Like the annual trip to Smallville. Usually, Marinette’s family (most times, even her nona would come for a few days) would spend two weeks of the summer with her Grandma and Grandpa Kent in Smallville. This year, however, was different. For the first summer ever, Marinette would be following her cousins and Aunt and Uncle back to Metropolis to spend some more of her summer outside of Paris. Her parents claimed it was to give her a break from the drama in Paris. It was also to give her a break from akuma attacks (in their minds, anyway). No matter how much she cared for her extended family, she knew she couldn’t tell them about the Paris situation. She wasn’t stupid. She knew that her family wasn’t exactly normal. And even though she wasn’t exactly sure what it was that was different, she didn’t need her Uncle Clark to get overprotective (and angry) and get akumatized. That would be the opposite of a solution.
So instead of letting the stress of the Paris situation get to her, Marinette decides to relish the time with her family. She only got to spend time on the farm once a year, after all. Might as well make the most of it while she could.
“Mari, Mari, Mari!” Marinette’s pulled out of her thoughts by her younger cousin running over to her, practically vibrating with excitement. She grins, ruffling his hair.
“What?” She asks, laughing. He grins widely.
“You remember how Dad said we would be back in Metropolis in time for the annual 4th of July fireworks show put on by Superman?” He asks. She nods. “Well my best friend gets to come and you finally get to meet him!” Marinette just grins, happy to see the kid so genuinely happy.
“That’s only if we survive the road trip back.” She reminds him. He looks at her, narrowing his eyes.
“You’re not really gonna try and bug Kon the entire way back are you?” He asks with a sigh. Marinette shrugs, grinning.
“He’s basically my big brother too. And I haven’t had my entire life to annoy him like you did mine. So I have to make up for lost time.” She says. Jon pouts. “Please Mari! Please don’t annoy him too badly!” He pleads. Marinette sighs dramatically, but decides to take pity on the kid.
“Fine. I guess I could promise to be on my best behavior.” She says. He relaxes. “If...”
“If what?” Jon asks, looking suspicious. Marinette grins.
“If you can convince Grandma to get Uncle Clark to stop bugging me about the surprise I have. It’s not much of a surprise if you guys figure it out ahead of time.” She bargains. Jon tilts his head to the side, almost as if he’s listening, before nodding.
“Deal. But that includes playing songs that you know he hates.” Jon says firmly. Marinette immediately agrees. She’d have plenty of time to annoy Conner once they were actually in Metropolis.
---
The second the car stopped at the park, Marinette threw herself out of the car and onto the ground dramatically. She waits until her Uncle has moved from the driver’s seat to where he can see her, before she starts acting like she’s hugging the ground.
“Land!” She cries, stifling a laugh at Jon’s giggles.
“I’m not that bad of a driver!” Uncle Clark protests. Marinette sits up and makes eye contact with him, raising an eyebrow. He huffs. “Lois?” He asks. Marinette snorts as her aunt shrugs.
“I love you, but I’m going to have to agree with Marinette on this one.” She says, turning and winking at her before moving to the back of the car. Marinette spots Conner getting out of the car and raises her arms up.
“Help!” She calls, grinning as he huffs, but still walks over and grabs her hands, helping her into a standing position. She grins. “Thanks!” She says, walking over to help her aunt grab the picnic basket and other stuff they’d brought. Although it wasn’t a holiday that most French citizens celebrated, the 4th of July was one of Marinette’s favorite holidays. Mostly because she was usually with her extended family either on the actual day, or close enough that they still celebrated it. Cracking open the picnic basket, Marinette grins at the sight of her Grandma’s famous apple pie. She’d been kind enough to make an extra one for them to bring home (not that it would last past today with her cousins and Uncle eating it).
“Hey Mari, could you grab the basket?” Her aunt asks, trying to balance the bag of sparklers and all of the blankets. Marinette nods with a smile, grabbing the basket and stumbling slightly as she adjusts it.
“You got it M?” Conner asks, his hands almost empty. Marinette nods though, determined to carry the basket herself.
“Let's move out, men.” She commands, grinning as Jon immediately falls into line. She quirks an eyebrow at Conner, who rolls his eyes before falling in line behind his little brother. “Forward, march!” She calls, moving quickly so that she could catch up with her aunt. She catches Lois’ eyes as she glances back, snorting softly at the sight. Marinette just grins, the happiness and safety she felt in her heart leaving her to feel relaxed overall. With the help of the kwamis, she’d managed to make it so that Hawkmoth couldn’t release an akuma for an entire month. The spell was complicated, and had made her sick for an entire week, but it was worth it. It meant she was able to enjoy an akuma free summer with her family doing silly things, like marching around a park to prepare to watch a huge fireworks display. Marinette breathes out a sigh of relief when Lois finally stops and starts laying out the blankets. A soft poke on her arm makes her turn, quirking an eyebrow at Conner.
“Want me to take that?” He asks, gesturing towards the basket. She purses her lips and shakes her head. Conner sighs. “You carried it all the way over here, trust me, we know you’re strong. Just let me help my baby cousin.” He says, ruffling her hair. Marinette gasps, practically shoving the basket into his hands so that she could fix her hair.
“You’re such a pain sometimes, Conner.” She huffs, readjusting her ponytail and headband. Conner just smirks, making her scowl. She was an only child, so Jon had always been like a little brother to her. Adorable and annoying at times, but easy to boss around (most of the time, and she hasn’t been super bossy since she was twelve). She was also pretty sure that Jon looked up to her, so she always tried to be a good role model (once she got out of her bossy phase). Conner, on the other hand, was very much her older brother. Which meant he was annoying, he picked on her, and was incredibly overprotective. But she wouldn’t trade either of them for anything. They meant the world to her.
“Damian and his family should be here soon!” Jon announces, a wide smile on his face as he practically vibrates with excitement. Marinette smiles.
“Sweet!” She glances around, realizing her uncle was MIA. “Where’s your dad?” She asks, frowning. Jon shrugs.
“Maybe he had a work call. They always seem to be able to tell when Dad’s back in town. Or Mom.” He says solemnly. Marinette suppresses a snort at her cousin’s tone. Jon was never super serious. Overall, he’d always been a pretty happy kid. Which made moments where he acted serious just that much funnier.
“Oh my god, don’t tell me B’s adopting habits rubbed off on Clark.” A voice says, approaching their group. Marinette tenses, but relaxes at the wide smiles on both Conner’s and Jon’s faces. Even her aunt grins at the mystery group of people.
“Bruce! How nice of you to join us.” She says, her voice light and teasing. The oldest man in the group smiles.
“Yes, well, I couldn’t let Damian have all the fun. And I am sponsoring the fireworks after all.” He says with a wide grin.
“Lois, please tell me B didn’t rub off on your husband.” Another man says, a pleading look on his face. Her aunt just laughs.
“Your father is the only serial adopter here, don’t worry about that.” Her aunt says, grinning. Marinette takes the opportunity to step forward slightly, and wave at the group.
“Hi! I’m Marinette Dupain-Cheng.” She introduces herself, waving slightly at the group.
“She’s the totally awesome cousin I told you about!” Jon interjects, running to stand right in front of the youngest boy, who Marinette assumed was Jon’s elusive best friend. The boy glances at her, his face unreadable before he says something quietly to Jon who just grins. Feeling completely left out, she glances back at the rest of the group. Who had still not introduced themselves.
“And you are?” She asks, quirking an eyebrow as almost everyone in the group dropped their jaws. Frowning, she moves slightly closer to Conner. “What’d I say?” She asks softly. He snorts.
“They’ve gotten too used to their celebrity status in Gotham.” He says, his voice light and teasing. The guy with a white streak in his hair rolls his eyes.
“Maybe these losers have, but I haven’t. I’m Jason Todd, nice to meet you.” He says. Marinette smiles back, hands twitching slightly at the excess of chaos magic hanging off the group. She’d definitely need to talk to Tikki about it later.
“Likewise.” She says, before glancing at the group around him who had (finally) seemed to put themselves together again.
“Apologies, Miss Dupain-Cheng. I’m Bruce Wayne. These are my sons, Dick Grayson, you met Jason, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne.” The oldest man-Bruce- says, pointing everyone out. Marinette grins, waving lightly. As she makes eye contact with Tim (a name she recognized from some of Conner’s stories), she can’t help but let her smile widen at the slight red on his cheeks. Glancing at Conner, she snorts, seeing the exact moment on his face that he notices the blush. Deciding to save Tim from whatever overprotective rant she was sure Conner would go on, she pokes her older cousin.
“Hey.” She hisses out, poking harder as he refuses to look at her.
“What?” He hisses back, glaring at her. She grins.
“Race you to the swingset.” She says, beginning her run before she even finishes talking. She knew the chances of her losing were good. Her cousins were freakishly fast. What she hadn’t expected, though, was for all of the other guys (except Bruce Wayne) to join in on the chase. Laughing loudly, she pushes harder, determined to at least beat the Wayne boys. She manages to reach the swings just after Jon and Conner, grabbing one of two swings left. She snorts as the Wayne boys throw elbows, and trip each other to try to get the last swing. The rest were so caught up with their little fight, they hadn’t noticed Tim sneak by them and grab the last swing. Marinette turns to him, grinning as she swings.
“Impressive.” She says. Tim grins back, breathing heavily. Marinette issues a challenge to her cousins to see who can swing the highest, laughing loudly at Conner’s pout as he attempts to get the swing to go higher. She lived for moments like these.
---
Once it was fully dark out, (and Superman had already welcomed the crowd) her Uncle Clark came back and dropped onto the picnic blankets (where Lois and Bruce sat) with a huff.
“You okay?” Marinette asks softly, inching forward a bit. He nods, moving his face out of the blanket to smile at her.
“I get to spend the evening with my amazing family and friends. Of course I’m okay, kiddo.” He says. Marinette rolls her eyes, but grins.
“You’re such a sap.” She teases, leaning back onto her blanket. He grumbles, but doesn’t say anything else. Marinette settles onto the blanket (she’d picked the one with Conner, Tim, and Jason; the last one had Damian, Jon and Dick), shivering slightly. It might be summer, but it was dark out and they were close to the water. And she already had strong reactions to the cold thanks to Tikki.
“Would you, uh, do you wanna borrow my jacket?” Tim asks softly. Marinette shakes her head.
“Oh, no, I wouldn’t wanna take your jacket-” She starts, but Tim cuts her off.
“It’s not a big deal!” He insists. “I’m not cold or anything, I just brought it for the look.” He says, laughing lightly as he rubs the back of his neck awkwardly. Marinette grins.
“Okay. Well, I’d really appreciate it then, Tim.” She says softly. He nods, immediately slipping the jacket off and passing it to her. She puts it on and immediately sighs in relief at the warmth. She gives him a wide smile. “Thank you.” She says. He nods.
“Yeah, no problem.” He says, his voice light. Marinette smiles, eyes wide as the firework show starts. It was bigger and grander than any show she’d seen before, except for maybe the fireworks display at Disneyland Paris. It was the perfect end to an amazing day.

Kara/Lena adopt Superboy AU Notes (Part 1)
I’m finally delivering on the content for this Supercorp AU
Tumblr media
This is a Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor and Superboy (Kon-El) centric story. Specifically focused on exploration of one's identity and how you define yourself with the many aspects of your life and choices you made as well as what you consider important and precious to you. The effects of being constrained by how you were born and finding those who love you for who you are and don't ask you to change the core of your being to fit in. — this is not an action packed story at all.
Here are some of the ideas I have for this or things I thought Kon had in common with Lena and Kara that I find compelling.
Lena concepts:
Lena gets to know another Luthor, her biological nephew, who isn’t a trash person and is someone to not just for her to protect but who’s existence assures her that it isn’t blood that makes someone bad and maybe she isn’t so different from other people and she’s not “irredeemable”. Sometimes he reminds her of her older brother when he was kind to her growing up. Likewise, everyone usually sees the Lex in Kon as an inherently bad thing and thus he learns to hide it and hate himself for it. Lena presents an alternate because she remembers bittersweetly a simpler time when she looked up to her brother. Not everyone sees the Luthor genes in him as a threat, Lena finds it comforting to be able to help someone like her in a way she was never helped as a young girl.
Lena thinks she can’t interact with kids well, much less the kid Lex had grown in a lab, but she totally warms up to him and can talk to him about familial rejection (via Clark) and if it’s because he’s a Luthor and if that makes him wrong. Is it because he’s artificial? Is it because he’s some strange illegitimate lab child? Smothering this kid with love and protection.
Plus Kon is like Kara in more than just being kryptonian but also in dorkiness. Lena’s life is just trying to wrangle an overpowered golden retriever and her lab puppy. She can’t stay mad at them for long.
Lena finding she is capable of loving and being loved and being with Kara makes it harder to ignore the crush she has on Kara. They talk together about love and acceptance now they have a shared kid they don’t want to hide personal things from that could later hurt him and many things become open secrets in their now shared house. Soon enough, it becomes obvious she needs to be truthful with Kara about her own feelings for her.
Lena could learn about the difficulties of hiding being an alien that Kara had to deal with and the onslaught and exhaustion of developing powers in young kryptonians. She gets to see first hand what it does to a child and wonders how that must have affected Kara’s emotional development and sense of self.
Lillian and Lex won’t get anywhere near this kid if Lena has something to say about it. Lena knows what it’s like to be the odd one out in a family and for people to reject you for simply existing from other people's sins
Kara concepts:
Kara recounts how she felt like a failure waking up on earth to find out Kal had grown up without her. Now she can maybe make peace with that by taking in Kon even if everything that motivates her choices with him is primarily for kons sake.
Kara can share with another person krypton's history and culture which is something she’s had to keep seperate from her primary identity for years now *cough* it’s almost like she’s an immigrant who has to hide her identity and culture to be accepted and you could use that in the story *cough*
Kon lived through being created as a lab rat and the only living experiment left. Kara could sympathize with his own grief from her experience with survivors’ guilt.
Being open with Kon so that he doesn’t feel that same overwhelming pressure when she was told to hide with a human family also gives room for Lena to learn more about the world Kara came from beyond what she knows from interviews from Superman. Having Kara speak openly about her life on Krypton is much more personal and feels much more real than any article could do.
Teaching Kon how best to control his powers and her and Lena being able to have the resources for him to do so safely
Alex is very alarmed by the new addition to the family, mostly because how shitty Clark was in relation to the kid. From her perspective, this is not the first time the guy has dumped an unwanted kryptonian child on someone else’s doorstep. Whatever, she gets to buy leather jackets for her new nephew and be scary overprotective of him. “I don’t care if you think you’re nearly invulnerable at your age, do you have ANY IDEA what type of trouble your mother got us into when we were growing up? Or even when she just started hero work?”
Conner Kon-Cepts:
His sort-of-aunts can be his adoptive moms and be much better to him than his biological dads ever were to him in the comic canon. Kon actually being allowed to be close to other Superman family members!!! I need it like the air I breathe. Kon could get to know a Luthor that isn’t trying to hurt him or use him. Someone who defies part of why (Kon thinks) Superman could never accept a thing like him.
(I have too many things to say to put in a brief bullet point just know that he’s my fav little boy and I think that he deserves parents who would love him unconditionally and Lena and Kara deserve to live a slower life where they can be cute and domestic)
(If he’s raised by these two then I can give a solid reason as to why we just ignore all the blatant misogynistic and horny writing from the 90s comics that made me really uncomfortable and didn’t completely fit with his given backstory especially with how over the top the specialization was. It helps make up for that)
Kon has to deal with being constantly compared to his two genetic fathers mirroring how Kara and Lena both are constantly being compared to Superman and Lex Luthor as they are the female counterparts of those two more infamous members in their respective families
Kara and Kon have very complementary stories and could become what the other needs to fill a hole in each of their hearts. Canon is way too personally tragic. I’d rather have a bittersweet world that’s also soft so I can spend more time with slow paced character analysis.
(In the beginning, Kon’s much more timid given he’s still so young and is coping with being rejected by superman. The tone at the beginning of the story is very serious. As the story unfolds, kon will loosen up to be goofier like his comic counterparts personality)
Both Clark and Lex don’t deserve this kid in any way. If all they are gonna do is mistreat or neglect him in their own ways, Kon is better off with his aunts.
Conclusion:
Kara and Lena can be happy together by fully trusting themselves with each other in domestic bliss for once AND Kon doesn’t have to cry his eyes out knowing he’s an unwanted experiment child who is “undeserving” of family and home who never got to experience childhood
Everyone who's always saying “you can’t trust a Luthor” better shut their trap when Kara walks in with Kon-El Luthor, her newly adopted son, and her fiancé, Lena Luthor. These new moms will tear you apart if you try to instill that internal hatred of being a Luthor in their son’s young mind.
Kara and Lena both defying what people say about them and instead raising a well adjusted boy from both their warring families.
Kon is gonna be raised by a true power couple.
DC refuses to deliver on giving this boy a home or parents so I’m gonna do it instead. Just look at the family they could be together:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(FYI: This has nothing to do with the version of Superboy in the Young Justice cartoon TV show, so if you’re only familiar with that you may be a bit confused about this Superboy who that one was loosely based on. This whole punk fitted kid is indeed a real character and I stay pretty close to his original design from 1993.)

hello everyone I want to introduce you to some head canons about Grojband as parents.
Corey Riffin.
Corey would be the type of father who forgets his children in the supermarket or anywhere else but he would also be a very relaxed dad, maybe he would smoke with you. He would also be a jealous father but in a way that only Corey would be, you know how to kidnap and send him to Turkey a boy who asked his daughter the time, he would also be an understanding father who, despite not helping much, still has that love of dad.
Laney Penn.
laney would be one of those mothers who at first glance seems strict and tough but deep down she is sweeter than honey, of course it is better not to make her angry but when she is not upset she is really very loving and a little pampering.
Kon Kujira.
He would be the father who, when he hears that his son is crying, would prepare cookies with hot milk, sit on his bed and gently caress his hair and with a tender smile would tell you "who was the son of a bitch who did this to you?" He would listen carefully to everything his son wants to tell him, he would not judge him and he would support him at all times.
Kin Kujira.
Kin is one of those parents who don't show their affection in a "normal" way. You know, he shows his son that he loves him, placing a tracer in his liver or maybe experimenting with him so that he doesn't have any disease, maybe Kin is not good at feelings but you'll be safe with him. . . more or less.
Trina Riffin
With Trina there are two options: it is the most valuable gift of her life or she is the one to blame for her body being ruined. she would fill her son with gifts, she would also be very impatient and very angry but at times she sees him as the most beautiful thing and if someone believes otherwise she will bury him 200 meters under the ground.
carrie beff.
She would be a very overprotective mother but in the extreme, she is the type of mother who carries a whole pharmacy in her bag but she would also be a fun mother, instead of helping you with your homework she invites you to listen to music or watch a good movie.
Larry (lenny) Nepp
He would be an extremely relaxed father, I think that if he had daughters they would not need maternal help, he already knows and knows everything, maybe when they are sad he would buy a whole box of chocolate for them, in the case of having a son I think that Here I would be more concerned.
Konnie Kagami
More than a mother, she would be the typical cool Aunt, someone you trust and more than your mother, you feel like a good friend or there is also the situation where she is a mother hen that shelters you and takes care of you, you feel her affection and love.
kim kagami.
Well the same situation happens as Kin, only she will always make sure you feel comfortable, she won't talk much about feelings and maybe not about good advice but she will make sure at all costs that her son is well and if she has to burn down a toy store because already They didn't sell the toy their little boy wanted, so he will.

The Jacket 2/2
90s Superboy/Kon-El X Reader
Warnings: sexual content mentioned, slight angst
Words:1295
With her sister's now on her side and know of her pregnancy she must figure out how to tell her overprotective and loving brother's plus Alfred and Bruce. It should go well... Right?
The following day I silently resign from the justice league. Not a single word from, Kon still. He better be OK or I will personally kick his ass. I sit on my couch. I hear my intercom on my coffee table I answer seeing a holograph of, Bruce in the Bat-cave. He's strangely calm.
-"you resigned from the league without my knowledge. I am relieved though am intrigued to know why"
"well...." how do I tell him? This is harder than telling the girl's. I clasp my hands "it's not really something I planned on but it's for the best. I guess this is the first time I know something you don't" I chuckled rubbing circles in my palm
-"Y/N"
"so do you prefer grandad or grandpa?" seriously? I'm such a idiot
Bruce's eye's went wide I hear a glasses clink. I then see Alfred trying to steady the near falling plater. As he stood straight he smiled to me.
-"forgive me sir and madame I'm merely shocked to hear such delightful news" Alfred said with a genuine smile
"thanks, Alfie..." I look at Bruce's unreadable expression "are you mad?"
-"who's the father?" he demanded to know
"if you expect to be apart of my life or my baby's you have to promise me that you will not hurt him"
I waited and waited. Please say yes you stubborn bat!
-"very well"
"Kon" I sigh deeply that felt good to finally get out
-"you should have informed me sooner before I sent him on the team mission"
"yeah, I guess secrets never end well in our Family"
-"get some rest and inform, Alfred of your next appointment"
"you gonna start getting overprotective of me gramps?" I chuckled
He grunted. Alfred chuckled.
-"this Thursday I shall be preparing food for everyone at twelve o'clock. I trust you will be there" Alfred delightfully said
I laughed nervously face planting "then I get to tell my brother's"
Thursday. Driving to Wayne Manor. How the hell am I going to tell my brother's? Damn I'm so nervous. I want to cry. I pull into the driveway. I see Jason's motorcycle parked. He's here to. I step out of the car seeing the sun shinning brightly and feel a gentle breeze hit my face. Thankfully my morning sickness has eased. I walk up the steps and step inside. I shut the door behind me. Stephanie, comes barreling in and gently hugged me.
"hey, Steph" I chuckled
"I am glad you are here!" she exclaimed she parts as we both grasp each other's arms "how are you feeling?" she whispers
"I'm feeling great!" I then whisper "please tell me that you haven't told the boys"
"lips are shut and zipped"
"good" I said relieved
Both Stephanie and I walk to the kitchen. I see my brother's, sister's, Alfred and Bruce all in the kitchen. As I was greeted I grab a chip from plate on the kitchen bar. Damian, gazing to me intently.
"are you ill?" he asked bluntly
"Damian" Bruce scolded
I sigh I have to tell them. I really hope they'll be supportive. I love them and I'd be so heartbroken if they didn't want to be apart of my baby's life.
"there's something I need to tell you boy's" I softly said
Dick's face drops, Jason folds his arms, Damian continues to stare at me and Tim puts his hands in his pants pockets. I feel so uncomfortable.
"is everything OK?" Dick asked softly
Barbara, wraps her arm around Dick's. I take a shaky breath. Don't Cry!
"I'm pregnant. Kon's the father" I blurted out
"this is absurd! It is clear who are hiding something else from me!" Damian appalled
"this is a fucking joke, right?" Jason asked in a harsh tone
I shook my head. I hold my wist with my other hand.
"but you and Kon hated each other? Was it some hate sex shit going on?" Dick questioned angered. He thinks it was hate sex to!
"Kon cares about me it's not like that!" I defended
"I will slaughter him! Father where is the Kryptonite?!" Damian asked
"Damian that is enough!" Bruce demanded
"so what he gets to do this to Y/N and we're supposed to just live with that!" Jason said enraged
"hey I'm happy that it happened the least you could do is, be nice!" I said on the verge of tears
"Y/N, were just worried about you. We love you. What if he doesn't support you?" Grayson said softly
"you honestly think so little of him. Don't be naive enough to think I'm not scared!" I said I began to cry. The boy's all looked at me with sympathy in their own way "I'm going to make this very easy for you Idiot's. You promise me you won't hurt Kon. You will refrain from threatening to hurt him. All I want to hear is 'I promise' or you will have no input or even see our baby" I stutter under my breath unable to stop the tears "which would really suck because as much as I am mad at you idiots I think you'd be the best uncle's to my baby"
The room was silent except for my crying. I wanted to run away and cry in my misery. But I have to wait and not give up.
"I promise" Tim said I was surprised he was the first to break the silence "look he may have knocked you up" he lightly shivered in disgust "but he's my best friend and I know he love's you"
"Aww Timmy! That was so beyond adorable that was beautiful and cute and so sweet" Steph exclaimed "you are so getting la--" he cut her off
"Steph!" Tim exclaimed flustered
She placed her left arm across his back to his shoulder and locked her hands, kissing his face. That made his cheeks turn bright red in response. Cute. He cleared his throat obviously getting even more flustered. I look at Grayson he smiled widely.
"are you kidding of course I promise like I'm not going let the baby know who the best uncle ever is"
Jason, dagger glared to Grayson. Please do not get in a fight. Jason scoffs "uh that's bullshit Grayson I'm going to be the best uncle. I'll get the baby a cute little--" Jason paused realizing we were all looking at him. He rolls his eye's "oh, shut up!" he demanded realizing his sweet side was practically blaring. Jason looks at me as I softly smile. He looks off to the side with another eye roll fighting a smile "yeah what the fuck ever. I promise"
I look at Damian his arm's folded. I softly smile.
"hey I said you couldn't hurt Kon but not anyone who'd hurt our baby"
"tt.. I promise"
"thank you" I smiled
That night I sit down on my bed. Only wearing my nightgown. I hear my window open. I gasp and look seeing, Kon
"hey sexy--" he stammered and gasp "no" he smiled
I started crying I nodded unable to say those two words with so much emotion. I walk to the window.
Kon excitedly flew upward into the sky doing a flip in the air "WOO-HOO!!!"
"Kon get down here so I can kiss you!" I yelled at him
He super-speeds to me and kisses my temple cheek and then lips. I deepen the kiss grabbing his collar and pulling him inside the room. He puts his hand on my hip and hugs me. I cried in his neck.
"I-I am so glad you're home"
He chuckled I hear him sniff. He's crying. I am so not going to be able to control my emotions tonight.
"me too"

Today I have time for a proper analysis so LET'S GO
Tumblr media
THIS WHOLE EPISODE WAS AMAZING. LET ME SCREAM IN ALL CAPS FOR A BIT.
So I love love love how this sequel is all about family and reconnecting. Yes horrible things happen to tear a family apart, a lot of it that is out of our control, but also there are deep misunderstandings within a family that cause strain and lead to tragedy.
I love how in the end we get Kirinmaru's feelings about his daughter. He wanted to make her smile and he did it in the only way he knew how, that is to fight. But after he got injured from Inu Taisho, Rion didn't want him to fight anymore. and because they are demons and have the emotional capacity of a lemur, she couldn't outright say that. So she stopped smiling. She stopped encouraging his quest for power, which was really his quest for her happiness. Kirinmaru also thought that he had to protect Rion, because she couldn't protect herself. Which is true, she couldn't, because he never taught her how. I think that's another great contrast between Kirin and Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru understood that as a parent he had to stand to the side and let his children struggle in order to be strong. They had to do it themselves! He didn't coddle them on purpose! But he did watch from afar. Kirinmaru straight up overprotected Rion to the point where she lost her life. She relied too much on her father, and he never gave her the space or opportunity to grow and become her own person. She wanted to be strong like him, but ended up being stunted in personal growth instead.
This shows a wonderful insight into parenting and just how hard and also rewarding it is. I could SEE the pride in Sesshoumaru's face when Towa was restored. And he genuinely looked BROKEN when Towa's kon was gone, but I think he had faith that it would be resolved. Because here is something that Sesshoumaru has come to understand: Friendship is Magic.
😂
No but really, he saw the evidence of Inuyasha and his friends defeat a ridiculously powerful enemy and the power of Kagome's and Inuyasha's love wipe out the Shikon Jewel. He was trying to tell Kirinmaru through their entire fight that love is what makes a person strong. Rin's love for him, staying close by and watching him fight because SHE WANTS TO, and not because she has to.
I found it interesting that Sesshoumaru only called Kirinmaru a worthy opponent when he admitted his mistake in not listening to Rion, and admitting that his loss has affected him. Instead of pretending he was fine, Kirin finally admitted how painful losing Rion was.
AND THEN SESSHOUMARU SHOWED MERCY. He injured Kirin badly, but didn't deliver the final blow. He knew it wasn't over. Sesshoumaru wanted closure, and not for himself BUT FOR HIS CHILDREN.
Tumblr media
GOD THE MESSAGES HERE ARE SO GOOD!!
I'll make a salt post later about what I DIDNT get, and oh boy I'm gonna rant about how they TURNED THE CAMERA AWAY BEFORE WE COULD SEE RIN GIVE SESSHOUMARU A HUG WHICH IS WHAT SHE WAS RUNNING FOR YOU SAW THAT, RIGHT?!?!?!
But I digress. The entire ending was sappy and happy snd I loved it. Rion and her were reunited and found peace. Peace is more important than personal quests. Family is more important than selfish desires. Reconnecting is hard, but worth it.
DON'T MIND ME ILL JUST BE SOBBING IN COFFIN FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK

Note
I’m a bit of an outsider but it seems like the 90’s were a very paradoxical time for dc because from everything I’ve read Wally and Kyle’s runs are right bangers but like...I’ve also heard...other things about how other characters were written thats...less than flattering.
It’s okay the thing is lol that it depends on the character itself. The 90s was actually going to be a swap over and retiring period that well it didn’t happen. So here is my character break downs of the take over characters.
--
The Flash
Wally was a silver age character. He was Barry’s legacy and Flash was already a legacy from golden age Jay Garrick. Wally took over in the late 80s. Barry was gone and Wally took up his mantle. The Flash Team knew this was coming.
He got an entire series about himself settling into his own without really anyone to help him. Rudy and Mary were terrible. Barry and Iris were dead. It was Wally and some friends he made.
Wally remained the solo Flash until 2010 ish when they brought back Barry. But Wally is currently the Flash again and hopefully DC will stop harming my baby boy.
--
Batman & Robin
Dick Grayson was growing up. And post crisis Bruce went from a overprotective father who Dick wanted space from to an abusive manipulative father who Dick was essentially running from.
Nightwing was Dick coming into his own. Connection to Clark’s mythos. At this point Dick was both a legacy to Bruce and Clark.
But Robin oh Robin. That was a symbol that didn’t fit with their new dark(er) Knight. So Golden Age Robin had to die. But Dick is busy.
Well who was just Robin right before Crisis? The Dick Grayson copy- Jason Todd.
So they bring back Jason and give him a quick revamp. They make him all chirpy and happy so Golden Age. But dark enough that he’s similar enough to NTT age Dick. Then they kill him. Like okay people say it was the vote but DC always wanted Jason or more accurately Golden Age Robin dead.
Which paved way for Tim Drake’s Robin. Someone who was made for this new darker Bruce. But would have also been paired with Dick’s more efficent Batman. However this failed when Azrael fucked hard with Tim’s character and bolstered Tim’s importance beyond the normal Robin levels.
He was there to validate every bullshit thing Bruce was doing. He was there to validate child soldiers and reset the narrative from partner to general and soldier.
The issue for many fans comes from Tim’s character being a dork who siphoned off Dick’s chip on his shoulder colder more analytical mind.
Tim was just super eager and happy to help. (His backstory was pretty much just Bette Kane redone as a friend pointed out to me)
So Dick started to morph into happy big brother here. But the Batfam was changed in Crisis so the Batfam angle didn’t fit.
Dick wasn’t as hostile to Jason as some people would think but they weren’t close.
Dick was very close to Tim. I think original Tim paired with non altered Dick was a very good pair who worked well together.
It’s just when Tim became more and more popular he was given the traits that made Dick so popular and work so well.
Dick gave back the mantle to Bruce and Tim well Tim get siphoning more and more of Dick as time went on.
Barely recognizable to their 90s and before counterparts
--
Green Lantern
Kyle is actually more controversial than I might lead people on this blog to believe lol. Due to my undying and biased love for him.
He came in as a character who was going to put a new spin on Green Lantern. He was younger and fresher faced. But Hal’s Parallax arc as many might not know was quick as fuck. He just turned evil after Coast City and went for Genocide.
Kyle was yeeted the ring and he went in to try and help save the world. Kyle was the one who talked down Hal. Hal handed him the ring and said you’re the green lantern. The passing of the torch really.
But Kyle wasn’t beloved by everyone. Many people found his entry too quick. They thought he was too good with the ring too quick. They didn’t like his character. Thought he was too emotional to be a GL not enough Will. Lot’s of different takes.
Also Guy and John were there and many people would have preferred to see them if it wasn’t gonna be Hal.
Kyle and Donna was another thing that was alienating. Many people would have preferred to see her with Roy (plus I hate her with Kyle but that’s me)
Kyle remained the sole GA until 2005 ish so about 10 years. And he continues to be a major player to this day.
--
Green Arrow
Chuck Dixon hated Ollie and wanted him dead. So in came Connor Hawke. Ollie’s bastard son and a really talented martial artist that Ollie met at the Ashram.
Ollie acted ooc as fuck during this run but he died in a plane crash.
And Conn took over his place as the Green Arrow. Roy was doing Checkmate and Titans stuff anyways but no one asked him.
Connor is my baby boy my favorite DC character. But he also wasn’t that popular.
Obviously racism. They couldn’t even agree on a skin color. Many people were turned away by the perceived ‘preachiness’ of you know bringing up real world issues.
A lot of people also didn’t like Conn being presented as a better martial artist than a lot of the Batfam (the fanon bias has always been strong)
He was main GA until 2001 when Ollie came back.
--
Superboy
Okay we got Kon way back when Clark ate it and then he was sort of here. Younger than the above kids but obviously the intended take over for Clark.
But then Clark came back. And it was just the take over didn’t happen here.

what do you think bruce does when his kids start dating?
i think he saw it coming w dick and wally... childhood best friends to mutual pining as teens/young adults and lovers as adults. w them i think he’s genuinely happy bc more than anything he knows dick is a lover! has always wanted a family and he wants dick to know he’s happy and approves! “jokingly” frightens wally with the “hurt my son and i will break your bones” talk! damian does the same he literally pushes wally into a wall w a sword at his neck and is like. dick is the best of us. understood? and wally is like omfg YES OK I LOVE HIM IT’S OKAY!!!!!
hmm w his other kids it’s different i think! w tim & kon he’s more like GRR because 1) tim is dating superman’s son 2) kon is a chaotic PUNK and likes to create problems on purpose for fun -> makes bruce a bit more protective than usual which makes tim annoyed but bruce knows that kon sneaks in sometimes but doesn’t say anything bc he knows the realest moments in their relationship is them just chilling in tim’s room at night!
w jason... ok that’s complicated. was a rowdy little kid and bruce couldn’t even do anything bc jason brought home really good grades and his teachers were like wow your son is really intelligent but he can act out sometimes. jason never really had Time To Date... had slight crushes and has had people crush on him but then his whole Death happened. broke bruce in more ways than one. i like to think that jason now is not one for commitment and he sleeps around and doesn’t care for emotional intimacy/is afraid of it. says he doesnt want a family bc he doesn’t wanna be tied down - but deep down he’s afraid it’ll be taken away from him/he’ll be taken away from them- but he’d make a wondrous father (everyone says so) as of now he’s happy being the fun cool uncle! has had bf’s/gf’s for a few weeks at a time and also fwb’s but rn he’s single & chilling - i never really saw him w anyone personally! damn jason date me instead king i will Treat you Right i Promise
overall i think bruce is super protective! he’s been around the block and he just wants his kids to be safe! will genuinely want to be involved in his kid’s lives and wants them to be happy but also creates problems on accident bc he’s sometimes too overprotective - has more than on one occasion crashed dates/wore fake mustaches with damian to spy on his kid’s dates (this is an excuse for him to hang out with damian and have damian feel like he’s really helping w espionage but in reality he just wants to chill w his kid at a restaurant while keeping an eye on his other son) he’s trying and is doing better at trusting his children bc they are trustworthy! he’s just a nervous wreck and wants them to be safe & happy! would die for his children <3 bruce has had casual boyfriends and girlfriends so he gives really good advice! may not be the Best at relationships but he’s really good at assessing them from a father’s lense hehe

Colony of Gotham (2/7)
The Colony of Gotham is an urban legend that is whispered about in the dangerous city. It's said the Colony is a family of demons and spirits that stalk the night, hunting for the souls of the guilty.
When Bruce became Batman, he'd never intended to be mistaken for a demon. He was happy to lean into it, though, and as he gained his partners -- as his family grew -- they all followed suit.
First Part ~ Next Part
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When winter came, Jack Drake used a Christmas gala as an excuse to approach Tim. He brought him into a side room to give him the news that Janet was dead, then proceeded to all but demand Tim return to the Drake mansion before the boy could fully process his words. When Tim tried to bring up the others, Jack stated Tim was nothing more than a charity case for Bruce just like Dick and Jason. Tim knew that wasn’t true for the older boys as Bruce had claimed them. For his own case, however, Jack’s words hit hard.
Bruce had yet to turn him. Tim knew the older boys had both been with him for years before their own turnings, but that was because neither had wanted it. Barbara had been changed right away, so why not Tim? He couldn’t bring himself to ask -- wasn't sure he could handle what would happen if Bruce said no -- but they had to know, right? They must have seen the way they watched them when they ate or discussed their nature. They were all detectives, after all.
He started to wonder if Jack might be right and Bruce didn’t really want him. Between that, his mother being dead, and his father actually wanting him, Tim didn’t fight it when Jack tried to lead him out.
Which was when Jason appeared in all his fury. He didn’t know why Jack was there, but he did know he had no right to be anywhere near Tim after what he’d done. Tim tried to talk him down, but that only made Jason angrier. He pulled Tim away from the man and told him Jack didn’t know what he was talking about. Bruce loved Tim just as he loved Jason and Dick. When Tim tried to argue, Jason realized how Tim had linked being turned with being family.
Temper rising and impulsivity at its peak, Jason heard Jack tell Tim they were leaving without even asking if that’s what he wanted, looked the man dead in the eyes, and bit his little brother. He made sure Jack couldn’t see his fangs or Tim’s wound as he gathered his brother into a hug and told Jack, in no uncertain terms, that Tim was theirs and if he had a problem with it he could take it up with Bruce’s lawyers. Then he led Tim away while passing him a dehydrated blood bar so he could complete his transformation.
Jason realized that maybe his timing needed work as the fever haze of turning began to wash over Tim, but the memory of the sunshine smile he’d received when his little brother had realized what he was doing and the tight hug Tim was giving him even in his declining consciousness made it worth it.
At least until they reached the car and Alfred leveled Jason with a look.
The moment Tim was tucked away in bed, Bruce and Dick laid into Jason about discretion and consent. Jason had been sure Tim wanted it, but doubt started to creep in as the younger boy slept through his transformation.
When Tim woke to an apology, he thought it meant Jason didn’t want him after all. The two quickly reassured one another then, with Barbara’s help, managed to make the others see reason as well.
When Tim’s animal form turned out to be a scrub jay, Jason never let his Tiny Jay live it down.
Kate Kane traveled the world for years to bring herself out of the downward spiral of alcohol and women she’d fallen into after leaving military academy, then returned to Gotham to make a name for herself as the Batwoman.
They called her a succubus with porcelain skin, lips painted with blood, and red fire for hair that had horn-like ears poking out. Unlike the rest of the Colony, she had eyes that could be seen, bright red with black sclera and slit pupils. There were hints of a curvy figure under the armor she donned. It was black with a bat painted onto the chest in blood.
They said she was beautiful.
They also said she was, without a doubt, the most vicious of the Colony. She didn’t carry guns, but she’d be happy to steal yours to use. It only took a few gunshots to men’s knees before word got around she favored women and protected them, though some never got the hint and still tried to flirt with her.
Bruce was not pleased when he found out who she was, but he knew the woman well enough to know she wouldn’t stop so he brought her into the fold as much as she would allow.
Jason and Tim hadn’t met her before, having joined the family after she’d left. The younger boy got along well enough with her, but the older boy was immediately taken with his new crazy vodka aunt (they were technically second cousins once removed, but everyone agreed aunt was simpler) and Bruce regretted introducing them when he realized the two were sneaking off to gun ranges together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A new team of heroes eventually arrived on the scene, one that would go on to cause problems for one Tim Wayne.
It began one month after the team’s formation when a certain clone -- in a fit of rebellion against one of the men whose DNA had formed him -- decided to take a trip to the one city the Justice League avoided like the plague and ordered their mentees to do the same.
Despite almost immediately regretting it, he held out for three hours before deciding to head back. The problem came when he realized he had no idea how to do that. He was completely lost and had left his phone at home to be sure Clark wouldn’t figure out where he’d gone.
Not for the first time, he wished he could fly.
He wandered around lost for another half an hour, not willing to trust any of the Gothamites that all seemed to eye him with an even greater distrust, before a boy stumbled out of a coffee shop and directly into him. Kon was impressed the smaller boy hadn’t managed to spill a drop of coffee nor lose his footing in the collision considering the massive bags under his eyes and the way he almost seemed to be vibrating from what Kon realized was a half-empty black coffee with six shots of espresso.
Tim managed to show him the way to the train station in between complaining that he was a creature of the night that didn’t need sleep, wishing destruction on his elder brother for dragging him into the city for a book signing before disappearing on him because of an emergency, the brightness of the day (despite the sky being more overcast than Kon had ever seen it in his month of life), and describing the video game he’d stayed up the night before playing.
Kon was honestly extremely worried about the guy, and he might have forced him to swap numbers before he left on the train so he could make sure Tim got home safe, even if the guy claimed he just needed to call his other brother to pick him up. Tim did get home safe, but he also got a second coffee beforehand so Kon felt justified.
In Tim’s defense, he required three times the amount of caffeine to feel the effects. Not in his defense, he had drunk more than three times the amount that day.
Tim did not appreciate the grumpy, yet overprotective puppy he’d somehow gained. All the same, he couldn’t bring himself to block Kon’s number. Even when he put together that Conner “Kon” Kent was Superboy, a founding member of Young Justice.
Tim also didn’t appreciate his brothers teasing him over his new super friend.
The teasing only got worse some months later when Tim and Barbara went to a convention together where he got into a long conversation with one Keli Quintela about the integration of human and alien technology and the pros and cons of utilizing alien coding language in firewalls. They ended up spending most of the convention together and went home with each other’s numbers and emails. So of course she turned out to be Young Justice’s Teen Lantern.
He would never let his brothers know that Keli set mandatory downtime hours on all the projects they worked on together because, apparently, he had “an unhealthy work ethic” and needed to “take more personal time.”
Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep it from Barbara. She soon started setting similar blocks on his other projects.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stephanie’s story is a familiar one. She took on the persona of Spoiler to help the Colony take down her father Cluemaster whenever he decided to cause trouble. She wore body armor she’d stolen from her father and dyed purple alongside a cloak and a mask that covered the bottom of her face. She interacted with the Robins the most during their on-again-off-again team up so it was no surprise she eventually realized there was more than one. This meant that when Jason decided he was getting too old for Robin, they went with the obvious successor.
Stephanie will never admit how long it took her to realize the lot of them weren’t demonic monstrosities. Or how long it took her to catch onto the vampire thing.
According to rumors, the Red Hood had been the leader of the Red Hood Gang when it was at its prime. He’d been brought back from the dead by Batwoman to serve as her right hand and he held a grudge against the Joker for leading the gang to ruin. He was a brute in armor to match hers under a black and blood-red hooded vest. A red mask covered his mouth and nose while a black domino with glowing red lenses hid his eyes. His hair was a fiery red that matched his mistress’s. They said he was just as vicious as her and while he was thrilled to beat you down with nothing more than his fists, and more than capable of doing so as well, he often used the guns hidden under his vest. Some said he never kills, others said he simply handed those he does over to his mistress. He never spoke but in growls, but his mistress always knew what he was saying.
That might have been because Jason only spoke over comms while his mask filtered his voice into animalistic growls.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During this time, Cassandra Cain celebrated her eighth birthday by killing Miranda Row on her father’s orders. Cass, trained to understand body language better than most understand words, was horrified as she took in how the dying woman was feeling and fled both the scene and her father. He went down for the crime, but Miranda’s daughter Harper knew the man hadn’t acted alone and was out for blood.
On a happier note, this was also around when Stephanie was turned.
If anyone ever asked Stephanie how it happened, she would be sure to give them a story full of lies that was guaranteed to be far more dramatic than what actually happened while Tim would be off in the corner, blushing face hidden in his hands.
Because honestly, it was an accident.
She and Tim had been cuddling in the cave on their night off. Tim had gotten a little enthusiastic with his fangs, not that she minded at the time. Then she grabbed a drink from the mini-fridge. Unfortunately, neither of them realized just what she was drinking until it was too late.
A human is bitten by a vampire. A human drinks another human’s blood. The human is no longer a human.
The situation made the Colony more cautious around their significant others, to the amusement of one asexual-aromantic Jason Todd-Wayne. It wasn’t a problem for Bruce as Selina had turned before he’d ever met her, but Barbara and Kate both started keeping their blood locked in mini-fridges in their closets. Dick, unfortunately, wasn’t as lucky.
The manor was safe, but he wouldn’t be able to keep anything locked away at Artemis’s apartment without explanation. He could easily just keep all his normal blood at the manor, but he usually had a blood bar or two on him in case of emergency and Wally was known to steal food thanks to his speedster-increased metabolism. The bars weren’t toxic to humans in case someone happened to get their hands on one and Wally had only made the mistake of stealing one once before when Dick had first turned (he’d eaten it too fast to react to the taste, but had immediately gagged after and sworn off ever trying one again), but Dick was still nervous one or both of his partners might get their hands on one by accident.
As a result, he stopped nibbling on Wally and Artemis during intimate moments just in case, something that did not go unnoticed. Dick was a biter, so when he suddenly stopped out of nowhere the two began to worry. They tried to talk to him about it, but he talked around them or played dumb. Artemis then texted Jason, Artemis Grace, and Barbara.
Jason simply sent her a vomiting emoji before saying if she still wanted to come with him and Kate to the gun range, she wasn’t allowed to talk about doing that kind of stuff with his brother around him ever again.
Grace advised them that if Dick wasn’t satisfying them then they should rid themselves of him. When Artemis tried to say that wasn’t the problem, all she received in response was a shrugging emoji.
Barbara said she didn’t know but she’d try to talk to him, then immediately texted Dick to tell him to either get over his fear or tell his partners what was up.
Dick worried over it for a week before blurting out that he was a vampire while the three were cuddling in bed.
The two laughed, assuming it was another of his jokes, until they realized he wasn’t laughing but hiding behind his hands. The three had had a long conversation after that about the nature of vampires, how Dick fed, and the powers and limitations that came with vampirism, the latter of which included Wally receiving a painful kick to the shin over a glitter joke.
The two had taken it well, having seen weirder things in their lives, and Artemis got a lockbox for Dick to keep his bars in to prevent any accidents that could come from Wally’s hunger-induced amnesia.

Mary Elizabeth “Bette” Kane was first cousins once removed with Kate Kane, which is how she ended up getting sent to her aunt’s for the summer. She had been excited at first since she knew how much Kate liked to party, but she was more than disappointed when she found out she’d been signed up for a science summer camp at Wayne Enterprises. She fought with her aunt over it and when that didn’t work, she went looking for dirt. That was how she’d accidentally stumbled upon the Batcave.
Kate and Bruce unfortunately didn’t have enough time to figure out what to do about it before something else took precedence.
Barbara was shot by the Joker.
That night affected three young women’s lives.
Barbara’s vampiric durability meant the damage wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but her mobility was still too limited for her to ever go out in the field again. After some time to come to terms with her new state, she settled into the role of Pythia.
It was a serpent made of code, slithering through servers and whispering into the ears of the Colony. It was never seen, only heard. It saw all. It knew all. Beware if it turned its attention to you.
Stephanie stepped up as Batgirl. They needed the cover and she honestly butt heads with Bruce too much to be a good Robin anyway. Plus, purple was much more her color.
Batgirl had grown stronger. When you could see her, she was nothing more than a shadow cloaked in violet. However, it was rare you’d see anything. Thanks to the theft of an invisibility device Penguin had built for her father, sometimes you couldn’t even see her when she was right in front of you.
Bette was in the cave while the others were hunting down Joker, Kate too worried to leave her at home until they were sure he didn’t know their identities. As she watched the Colony work, it suddenly hit her what her aunt was doing as Batwoman. After that day, she put more effort into the camp and even developed an interest in medicine. At the same time, she began to learn how to fight from her aunt. When the summer came to an end, she pulled some strings to get enrolled in Gotham Academy so she could stay with Kate. Then she took her place as Tim’s partner by offering her fashion and makeup skills.
“The shadows have started to overwhelm the Bloody Robin,” people whispered.
The ones that had always wrapped around him rose up in the form of a hood while darkness had ensnared his limbs, leaving only hints of green on his clawed feet and hands. The formation of the hood, though, revealed his neck.
And the long bloody gash that encircled it.
They say the change was done by Batman, that he tore Robin’s head off to bring out his darkness.
During this time, Barbara was dealing with the trauma of what had happened to her. One of the ways she did this was by joining an online support group for trauma survivors. It was through the chatroom that she met Hank Hall and his girlfriend Dawn Granger. The three quickly became friends. Hank was grumpy but well-meaning in a way Barbara was all too familiar with. Dove was more openly kind and caring, though Barbara could see a viciousness lurking beneath.
The three talked for weeks before deciding to meet up for lunch when Barbara was on a trip to D.C. It was only then that she looked them up, not wanting to risk meeting them in person if they were up to something.
She took the teasing over having super friends with far more dignity than the boys. Admittedly their status as super friends was more debatable since the couple were semi-retired and only really went out in emergency cases or as favors to their old Titans friends.

When Bart Allen heard his Grandma Iris and Uncle Wally talking about the latter going on another trip to Gotham, he was ecstatic. The myths about Gotham were always the best horror stories to listen to growing up in the future and now that he was Kid Flash he was sure Wally would let him go with him. He’d been waiting for his opportunity since he’d taken the name and joined Young Justice, but there had always been things in the way. Wally had a mission. Dick was busy so Tigress had come to Central instead. Bart had a mission. Bart had another mission. The police commissioner's daughter got shot so no one was going to Gotham. So on and so forth.
It had been over a year, but finally, Wally was going to Gotham and Bart had nothing planned.
“No, you can’t come,” Wally said immediately.
“Why not?” Bart whined.
“Gotham’s too dangerous,” Iris said, from where she was folding towels. She gave Wally a pointed look. “Neither of you need to be going there.”
Wally shrugged.
“But -”
“No,” the two adults cut over Bart.
He went anyway.
Unfortunately, while he could run just as fast as his uncle-slash-first cousin once removed, he wasn’t quite as coordinated as the older speedster so he lost track of him halfway through the city. Not managing to find him again, he ended up deciding to just grab something to eat and head back. Deciding to ask for a local’s opinion, he ran around until he spotted someone moderately trustworthy looking (it took longer than it would normally, but he’d expected that in Gotham). When the shorter teen offhandedly mentioned he was sneaking away from his brothers and their friends, Bart invited him to come eat with him. When the guy couldn’t seem to remember when the last time he ate was, the invitation turned into a kidnapping.
The guy, Tim, was pretty cool even if he clearly couldn’t take care of himself. He actually kind of reminded Bart of the friends Kon and Keli had mentioned having in Gotham, so maybe a lack of self-care was a Gotham thing. Either way, Bart had them swap numbers and proceeded to bother his new friend around mealtimes to make sure he ate.
Tim hadn’t even needed to look up Bart since Dick showed up in his room with a big grin talking about how Wally’s nephew had gotten a new Gotham friend named Tim.
The younger brother wasn’t sure what he had done to deserve this. He hadn’t asked for it. Why did these people keep showing up out of nowhere!

TFW you find out scrub jays are the only non-primate and non-dolphin shown to plan ahead for the future and just can't help yourself.
Steph wears her suit from Young Justice as Spoiler and her Rebirth Spoiler suit as Batgirl.
Jason's Red Hood suit is a mixup. It's the typical Red Hood suit, but the helmet and jacket are swapped out for the mask and vest from Red Hood: Outlaw.
The updated Robin suit is similar to Damian's from the animated movies, just with the usual black robin mask. And bloody.
Vampires' animal forms:
Tim: Woodhouse's scrub jay
Kate & Bette: Gray bat
Stephanie: Golden jackal

Take Back the Cake, Burn the Shoes, and Boil the Rice (7/11)
Within two months there have been two murders of Gotham newlyweds moments after the ceremony. The only connecting factor was both brides wore the same designer’s work. Needing to establish who exactly is behind the crimes, Bruce enlists Tim and Stephanie to have the biggest wedding Gotham high society has seen in decades, putting a target on their heads not just for the killer, but Gotham society too. It goes about as well as you’d expect.
Ao3 Link Here!
“Hey…” Tim said, still lying on the floor.
“Dude!” Conner’s voice came through, exuberant. “Bart you were right! He did answer!”
Bart’s high-pitched giggle ran straight through Tim’s bones. It cut off abruptly as he processed Conner’s incredulity.
“Why do you guys always think my plans are bad?”
“Shush.” Cassie’s voice also drifted in. Tim must have been on speakerphone. “Tim… what is going on? Like… is this for real?”
“No way.” Said Conner. “You would have told us. It’s gotta be fake. Weird fake, but fake.”
“…It’s not fake.”
“Pardon?” Bart asked, being awfully polite. “Why didn’t you keep us in the loop? Or are you channeling Batman this month?”
“It had to be real. Like super real. No heroes, no nothing.”
“Bullshit, Tim.” Conner’s tone was fond, but a little exasperated. “Kara’s been on my ass about it too. Some of us have secret ids yaknow. No metas in Gotham rule aside, we could help?”
“I mean… it’s complicated. There’s a bunch of murders recently.”
Cassie sounded worried. “We saw the news the other day. You and Stephanie were shot at?”
“…Yeah. Someone’s targeting brides who wear this designer. Steph and I were trying to make ourselves the next pair on the list… the guy botched it and shot Bishop Sherborne.”
“So… once Batman catches Mr Always the Bridesmaid Never the Bride… then what?” Asked Conner. “No more wedding, I guess. Which – yikes – bud. I’ve seen the stuff online. Some people are being brutal about this whole thing. You have too many fake engagements people aren’t gonna believe a real one after that.”
Cassie piped up again. “Not to mention Steph is gonna be thrown into limbo, right?”
Tim was silent as he listened to his friends. He couldn’t explain. This is why he didn’t tell them. They weren’t doing it intentionally, but they were setting off all his alarm bells. It seemed Bart heard something in the silence that the others did not, and asked, more than a little befuddled,
“Wait… you and Steph aren’t together together for reals are you? ‘Cause, you really should have told us! Like no bachelor party? Really? No me as your best man?”
Conner sounded very affronted when he cut in, “Eh. No. That’s me.”
“You can have a girl as your best man right?” Cassie pondered. “Nowadays? I’d be good at that…”
Tim rolled onto his front, utterly depressed. “I don’t know. Know what I wanted… Know what Steph wants…”
It seemed Tim’s sadness finally clicked in the minds of his friends, and Conner lowered his tone.
“You getting your heart broken bud?”
Tim’s eyes grew wet. “I can’t help her.”
“Help her how?”
Cassie began to shoo the other two away. “Let me speak to him. One to one.”
“I can still hear the phone you know.”
“Shut up, Conner. I don’t want you and Bart butting in.”
“Rude.” Bart chirped, but did as he was told. There was shuffling, and the sound of someone being kicked, but soon enough it was just Cassie on the other side of the phone.
“Can’t help her how?” She repeated Conner’s statement, and Tim heard him huff in the distance.
“We… we both want to be together.”
“That’s…that’s good Tim. Right? So, what’s the issue?”
Tim sneered. She wasn’t making it sound good. They just wouldn’t understand, but Tim continued to try.
“But she… I thought she was in a better place. I thought I was in a better place. But the stress is getting to her. She’s tired of being judged. And that’s all I can offer her.”
Cassie was quiet but full of conviction when she responded, “I don’t believe that.”
“No but…Cassie I’ve never seen her like this. Like she’s three steps away from jumping out the window. And that’s supposed to be me. I don’t know how to show her, that she doesn’t need to be frightened. That other people don’t matter. People just aren’t coming on side, not entirely. Not even her helping Bishop Sherborne when he died was enough. And she’s losing her drive.”
“Could you…” She mused it over. “Have you got an event coming up?”
“The engagement party.”
“No, no. Something smaller. Something about your job. Something you could share with her. Show her she doesn’t need to be afraid to share a life with you. Start small to build back up confidence. Steph’s…she’s a little rough round the edges.”
“She’s from Gotham.”
“Exactly. But the more she does that sort of stuff with you, the more people will get to know her and that squidgy centre you talk about. I mean those engagement photos were beautiful.” Tim burned red. Of course, they had seen them. “And I want her red dress more than life itself, but that’s not her. Not you really either. You both do stuff outside of nightwork… do that stuff together y’know?”
Stephanie had asked him about his work. She had asked several times in fact. She had been on multiple visits to his office, watching as he went through conference calls, reports and other dry white-collar work whilst she sat with her college notes spread around her. She herself had said she was interested in what he did. Tim blinked, a plan coming together.
“…Thank you, Cassie.”
“My pleasure.” She said, sounding smug. “Is she there with you now?”
“No… we… we had an argument. She’s gone to cool off on patrol.”
Conner pinched the phone then. “Not to sound judgy, but man… she’s got a temper. And you said when she gets angry, she gets stupid.”
Defensiveness replaced depression, and Tim’s tone became a warning. “Conner.”
“I’m just saying. Think you should go find her.”
“She’s competent Kon.”
“…Sure.”
It was very difficult to not take an imagined slight to Stephanie as a slight against himself. “What’s that mean?”
“Listen, dude—”
A frantic beeping from his phone interrupted Conner. It was the distress signal of Batgirl, one that she did not ring often, or ever, and Tim’s heart stopped.
No. No. No.
“Have to go.”
“Wait –”
“It’ll be over in two weeks so bear with the radio silence.”
“Huh? Dude don’t shut us out after –”
“Bye.”
And he hung up, then rushed downstairs.
**********************************************************************
She had fallen, because if Stephanie suspected of how she would die, it would be from gravity being a bitch. Some bastard had shot at her, she had jumped to avoid it, then collapsed through the roof – rotten wooden beams giving way under her weight. She had crashed down with a horrendous smack, and likely had a concussion. Her neck had snapped in such a way that left her terrified to move her head. Her leg felt damp. Struggling, she pressed her little beacon. Someone would be on their way soon. Outside the building, she heard that man whooping in victory, trying to figure out a way in.
She was in over her head. She wasn’t paying attention. And now she was in agony on the dirty floor of some shithole in Gotham, a murderous drug lord wanting a piece of her.
Wow, she really was spiralling down.
And somehow, she couldn’t bring herself to blame Tim. He hadn’t caused these issues. He’d been honest with her, given her multiple opportunities to back out. And she had hurt him, in every manner of speaking. Even if he had been putting her under pressure… she didn’t…
She didn’t even blame Bruce, who was only trying to protect people, and entrusting his family to help him do so.
Her issues were hers and hers alone. Maybe she’d never really dealt with them, maybe she’d never really worked her way through them. Maybe she just buried it all. Ignore it, and it will go away.
She wasn’t sure how long she was left alone on the floor, safe from the man outside, but however long it was, it wasn’t enough for her to get back on her feet. Her head lolled on the ground, and she tried to push herself up. Keep moving, that’s all she had to do. She’d been through worse and coped. She only managed to get onto her hands and knees when someone grabbed her blonde hair and ripped her back, making her cry out in shock. Her neck clicked oddly. Her left leg limply dragged across the floor, leaving red streaks behind her, whilst the right spasmed, trying to get a footing so she could kick herself upright and punch the bastard, but her head injury was disorientating her beyond being of any use.
“Can’t believe it’s that easy to take out one of you lot.” The cold feel of a pistol pressed against her jaw. If fired, it wouldn’t kill her immediately. This guy wanted her to hurt.
No. She had to apologise to Tim. She had to… She had too…
She had no time to prepare a snarky comeback, because one of the family’s hook shots had rammed itself into the guys arm. He shrieked, hand dropping the gun and her hair, allowing her to roll away into the corner to get a better look at her leg.
She looked up, to see Tim, fully dressed as Red Robin amongst the rotting rafters, angrier than she had seen him in a long time.
She got caught between sharp relief and guilt. Tim had come for her. Dutiful, loyal, Tim.
Letting her head thump against the floor, Stephanie flittered in and out of consciousness.
Tim, meanwhile, had lost his temper.
He knew he was a bit overprotective of Steph. He also knew she was competent. She had been through a lot with and without him, and as Batgirl had saved Gotham multiple times over. He wasn’t a white knight coming to rescue the damsel, but something feral would be set off seeing her in danger. Didn’t matter if he was fifteen or twenty, someone hurting her, someone touching her, was enough to set him off.
It wasn’t like with Captain Boomerang, where everything was calculated, cold and methodical. Steph was hurt, Tim had the means to make the man who did it hurt.
And hurt him Tim did.
Stephanie watched most of it, not really in the right frame of mind to do anything but watch. She wanted to call for him, pull him back to her. But then she would black out for a moment. When she would reawaken, any chance at orientating herself would be lost from the view in front of her.
Bones were meant to be inside limbs, right?
Tim’s torture continued until Dick yoinked him away.
“That’s enough. Okay? Don’t make the same mistake as me.”
Dick was home? The thought was enough to cause the red to fade, and for Tim to start to catch his breath. His stomach began to drop. He’d done something stupid?
No. Where was Stephanie?
Nightwing had him held in such a grip that was designed to allow Tim to break out if he wanted, but also jolt into him some semblance of what he was doing.
Tim blinked, then wriggled out of Nightwing’s hold. His brother looked more than a little white at the scene before him. Tim’s chest was heaving, and he could feel sweat dripping off his chin. Slowly he turned to see what damage he had done, then immediately looked away. He had done something stupid. And potentially murderous. For her. Again.
Stephanie had somehow pulled herself into a sitting position, one leg laying limply at an angle. She was breathing heavily, trying to control her body’s response to the pain. Her head was tilted, resting on her shoulder, as if it was too heavy for her neck to support.
“Batgirl…” And then Tim was at her side, looking for the injury in her leg. She hissed when he got close, but from what he could see, there was no fracture, only a puncture wound.
“Landed on the crates. Mother of all splinters..!” She felt her eyes rolling around, vision a blur, and grunted to herself. Play it off. It’s not serious. She hadn’t messed up. Not really, not as bad as before.
Her tone was deliberately light, but Tim couldn’t bring himself to smile. He had realised that his hands were wet and didn’t want to pick her up if he was going to smear her in more blood.
“I’m sorry.” She said, taking Tim away from his brooding. “I hit you. I shouldn’t have.” She looked like she was going to start crying, the pain in her leg and head coupled with the guilt seemingly too much. “I don’t want to hurt you and I did. I’m sorry.”
Tim wanted very much to pull back her cowl and stroke her hair, but restrained himself.
“I shouldn’t have grabbed you the way I did.”
“No but –”
He shushed her and she whimpered.  Shamefully, he gripped and wiped his hands on his cape, trying to make himself somewhat presentable, then very carefully, very gently, picked her up in a bridal hold. She cried out but reached up to wrap her arms around him.
Nightwing called both the police and an ambulance, staring at the dying man on the floor. Dick couldn’t do anything to help him, too many broken bones to even move him safely.
Tim watched Dick’s face grow cold.
“I’ll take her back to my apartment.” Tim said.
“No, you will not.”
Tim’s temper spiked again, though holding Stephanie he was unable to act on it as he would have liked. “Don’t talk to me like that.”
The signature sound of Batman’s cape fluttering, and the distant noise of sirens approaching, made the potential argument end.
“Nightwing, drive them both back to the Manor. Have Batgirl checked over.”
There was something very odd in Bruce’s tone that Tim wasn’t used to hearing, but it made him a little frightened.
“As said injured party member…” Chirped Stephanie, head craned back and straining her neck. “I feel like… I need a medical.”
“Hurry up!” Nightwing ordered, making his way to the batmobile. “You can drive my cycle but put Batgirl in the back.”
Four hours later, out of her costume and several stitches in her leg from where she had received the mother of all splinters, Stephanie’s head began to clear. She remembered Tim swooping down, and she remembered him hurting that man. Badly. Really badly. All because she lost her footing. All because she was in the wrong headspace to go out on patrol.
She was better than that. She knew she was.
She stayed silent, but when Tim returned to her side, the two stared at each other for the longest time. Neither knew where to begin.
Bruce started it for them.
“Do I even need to say what went wrong tonight.” There was no question in his tone. Just a flat, tightly bound anger that Stephanie nearly whimpered at the sound of. She shook her head.
“I messed up. I let my emotions get in the way and I got hurt when it was easily avoidable.”
If Bruce was impressed by her self-awareness, it did not show. He turned to Tim. “And you?”
Tim said nothing. Only glared. Stephanie pressed her hands to her eyes, she wouldn’t be able to block out the sound of the oncoming argument, an argument that was her fault, but that didn’t mean she was going to watch it.
“Tim.” Bruce pushed.
“I didn’t do anything wrong.”
Nightwing, who had been sat a little back from the whole scene, piped up. “You know that’s a sack of bullshit Tim.”
Tim’s ears burned red, and Bruce didn’t miss the look of betrayal on Tim’s face at his brother. Seemed like that look was all Bruce was seeing recently.
“I didn’t do anything wrong.” Tim repeated.
It was the wrong thing to say.
“This is just one more thing in a continuing dangerous trend with you and I have half a mind to –”
“I don’t answer to you anymore!” Tim was turning as red as his uniform, but Bruce would not be moved.
“You’re both grounded until the wedding is finished.”
Ordinarily, Stephanie would have fought back. Bruce was not the boss of her. Even Babs barely counted as a mentor anymore. Not really. She was her own keeper, and Bruce attempting to parent her was just an embarrassing effort at best.
Now, with her hands pressed over her eyes, blind to anyone’s expressions, she nodded her consent.
“Promise.” She warbled.
Tim on the other hand, was in the mood to fight. He was so wound up from the day’s events, with no outlet, that it poured out of him defiantly. His voice cracked childishly.
“No! No, no! She didn’t do anything wrong and her injury isn’t even that bad!”
Dick watched Tim grow increasingly frustrated and frowned. What the hell had he missed the past six weeks? Bruce was going to return in kind with an equal aggression that would only serve to blow the roof off the cave, so Dick decided it was his turn to intervene. He got up and shoved past Bruce, physically grappling Tim and dragging him away from Stephanie. Bruce could cool down for a moment and talk to the crying girl. He’d try to give Tim a reality check.
When they reached the stairs, Tim wriggled out of Dick’s grip, eyes still on Stephanie, but his anger was directed straight at Dick.
“What do you think you’re—”
Dick grabbed Tim’s arm again, shaking him, making Tim look at him. “I think Tim, you’ll be needed to look after Steph. Yeah?”
“I don’t need to be grounded to do that. I didn’t do anything wrong! I’m not being punished for something I didn’t do!” Tim protested, tugging back to remove Dick’s hand from his arm. Dick huffed, feeling Tim was letting his ego get in the way of the point he was trying to make.
“I really don’t care about that. I don’t know what’s going on, but you’re both off kilter. Take a break. Look after each other.”
“I am not –”
“Tim look at her!” Dick hissed. Bruce had moved over to Steph’s side, and sat next to her. Tim watched as the two talked.
“What happened?” Bruce asked, voice somewhat softer.
“I… I’m having a bit of a freak out at the moment.” It was an odd thing for her to confess to Bruce of all people, but he seemed to be listening. “The whole… pretending to be in love mission is throwing me off more than I thought it would.”
“Pretending?”
“Oh God…” She moaned. Where did Bruce get off sounding so confused? What did he even think of her and Tim as a couple? Were they that transparent in their pining? “I’m finding it emotionally taxing.”
Always easier to be flippant. Say exactly what you mean, but hide it under a layer of sarcasm as a back door exit in case the sincerity of the statement was called into doubt. Bruce did not doubt her. Instead, he asked her something else.
“Can you keep going?”
“I swore to.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Then Bruce leaned forward, grabbing her wrist. He tugged it away from her face so she wasn’t hiding her eyes. At the look she gave him, so tired and sad, his grip moved down to her hand, and she squeezed back.
“I can keep going.” She sniffed, her bodily pain catching up with her miserable mood. “Not gonna lie, Batman… I feel like I’m slipping back into bad habits.”
“That’s why I said no patrol.”
“I know.”
“You going to listen?”
She nodded. “No Batgirl for a couple of weeks…Promise.”
“At the very least you can catch up on sleep a bit.” It was meant to be reassuring, but Bruce’s claim made Stephanie snort a gentle laugh. “And work on whatever is troubling you.”
Stephanie’s smile faded. “I can try. That’s all I can do at the minute. I’ll fix it.”
“Okay. I’ll get Alfred to give you a painkiller to help put you down tonight.” Bruce looked to Tim, who was in the corner with Dick. He looked equally miserable but chewed his lip and walked back over.
“I want to take you back to the apartment, Steph, if you want me to. I’ll take a couple of weeks off with you.”
She nodded. “I want that. Lemme get my drugs first.”
Bruce’s eyes hardened a little as he inspected Tim, who was stubbornly avoiding his gaze. Their conversation would have to wait. Once dosed up, Stephanie wrapped her arms around Tim’s shoulder, and hoisted herself up so she could hop over to his car.
“Goodnight Bruce…thank you.”
His mouth twitched, but with what emotion, Stephanie couldn’t tell.
When they got back, Stephanie managed to get settled on the bed. Tim promised to stay up with her to ensure she wouldn’t pass out with nobody to check on her. She lay like her limbs were made of lead, her head resting on a pile of pillows trying to support her neck.
“I’ll be okay. Alfred said since I can hold a conversation and my pupils are normal, I’ll be fine.”
“Your pupils are not fine. They’re as big as dinner plates.”
“That’s the painkillers.”
“I know… I just…”
She smiled. “You worry.”
“Yeah.”
She looked down at her hands, wringing them together. Her fingers on her right hand settled on her engagement ring, and she sighed.
“I’m sorry Tim, for everything. The argument and the hitting and me being a brat for weeks…You don’t… you don’t deserve any of this.”
“I shouldn’t have grabbed you the way I did. And I shouldn’t have—”
“It’s okay.”
“It’s really not.” He fought back.
“No…not really.” She wrung her hands. “There’s no excuse. I’m better than this… better than my dad.”
“You’re not your father.”
Stephanie nodded in response. He thought she believed him.
Tim, who up until this point had been standing on the other side of the room, moved to sit on the bed. He was facing away from her, but Stephanie could see both of their faces in his mirror. The guilt that was rippling across his face was hard to watch, so she stared straight forward instead, looking at the fat yellow duck at the foot of the bed. Tim saw her do so, and his fingers curled up in the bed sheets.
“Can we get some things out in the open? Like, brutally honest out in the open?”
“Interrogating someone whilst their high on painkillers? Sure. But can I start?” She asked. Tim screwed up his nose and nodded. Stephanie kept her eyes on the duck. “Why did you hurt that man so badly?”
Tim’s palms became sweaty, and he nervously wiped them down his sweatpants.
“He hurt you.” He offered lamely.
“No. This was… this was different.”
“It is related to why Bruce and I don’t get on much in the suits anymore.”
Understatement. She didn’t know what he’d done. She couldn’t know…
“You think you have to be that harsh? Your fighting is getting colder and crueler. I worry…”
“What I was doing before wasn’t working. I’m not Jason. Not that far gone. But I’m not… not the same person I was when I was fifteen, Steph.”
Please don’t abandon me for it.
Stephanie shifted, creeping out from under the covers. She curled up behind him, her sore leg still stretched straight, and then reached around so she could link their fingers. She was smiling a little dopily, and Tim would have found it sweet if he could have gotten the day’s events out of his head.
“Look at us. You’d think we’ve been through some traumatic things the past few years.”
Tim raised his eyebrows at her teasing. “Weird that.”
Steph laughed, though it sounded a little slurred to his ears.
“You know, I figured out a long time ago. Why I love you.” She whispered conspiratorially, begging Tim to play along. Eventually she would conk out, drugs and injuries tiring her out too much to stay conscious, but Tim let her take the conversation off track. Her breath and hold were so warm it was nearly feverish. She had seen him nearly murder a man, but then she had let him pick her up with blood stained hands, and she now held his fingers like nothing was wrong. Maybe the pair of them were beyond help, but Tim couldn’t give up the idea of a happy life for Stephanie. Preferably with him in it but…he wasn’t too picky.
“Why?” He muttered.
“You’re so gentle. So gentle. No other guy I know comes close to it. And, yeah, at first, I was infatuated with you because oh so cool Robin, so brave, so smart… but when you stayed with me despite the pregnancy… I don’t know how to put it… you have a giant brain and a giant-er heart. I don’t care about how well you can hurt people. That’s never been part of it. And I believe you’ve never enjoyed that bit of superheroing. Knowing you had come for me, that made me feel safe, that was all I needed. Watching you nearly kill that man…”
“I panicked.” He confessed. “You’d left on such shaky terms and then your beacon went off and all I could see was red. I was so upset.”
“I was frightened for what you would do. For a second.”
Her stating her worry seemed to almost traumatise Tim. An uncomfortable length of time passed as he worked through what she said in his head. Stephanie didn’t know him. She didn’t love him. Not who he was. Not really. That violence was part of him now. She said she knew him, but with who he was now staring her right in the face, she did not want it to be true.
She leaned closer, her breath a warm whisper against his neck. “I told you. I won’t let you forget. Especially seeing that violence tonight. I promise Tim. That’s not you.”
He choked a little when he responded, trying to play it down and play it off.
“I try not to think about it. The moment I do for too long, I’ll believe Bruce is right to be worried.”
“Nah. He’s just being a dad.”
A long moment of silence passed. Stephanie continued to play with Tim’s fingers whilst she did nothing but think through the day’s events. Finally, she pressed her forehead against the back of his neck, against the burn scar he had received what felt like so long ago.
“Tim?”
“Yeah?”
“Why do you love me? Actual quantifiable reasons.” She shifted behind him, uttering more to herself than him, “Gimme an ego boost.”
Tim answered immediately, “Because you’re brave. Because you refuse to accept your lot in life. Because you’re beautiful. Because you came back to Gotham when you had every right to leave forever. Because somehow, after everything he’s done to you, you don’t hate your dad.”
“Don’t like him either.”
She didn’t respond to any of his other points. She was trying to accept them as truth, as Tim had yet to lie to her for all of this hellish two months. But something just prevented her from absorbing it. That wasn’t her. Or maybe it had been.
“Not the same thing.” Tim sighed and leaned back. The way she was sat meant his head thunked on her collarbone. “Steph? You’re a good person. Even if you doubt it sometimes. Reason enough.”
Steph’s breath washed over Tim, smelling of the medicine she had slurped down earlier.
“I hurt you.”
“Remember when I throttled you and kicked you in the stomach?”
“That was different.”
“What do you want me to say? I’m a big boy and can handle an argument here and there. This pity party, Steph… it helps no-one. Speaking from experience here.” Tim’s mind drifted back to his conversation earlier. “I have an idea. Well, Cassie suggested it actually.”
“You spoke to the Titans.” There was a flat curiosity in her tone. It wasn’t aggressive, just resigned.
“They’re getting sick of being ignored. Don’t think embarrassment is going to cut it as an excuse anymore.” Tim watched as Stephanie looked away, ashamed from being chided. “Listen. I want you to come with me to do some stuff for work.”
“What stuff?”
“Tomorrow I’m visiting the community centre down the road. There’s an after-school club for kids whose parents work crazy hours. We funded the renovations and pay a few members of permanent staff. It’s just a fluffy photo op, but you might enjoy it more than anything else I do for my job.”
“How old are the kids?”
“Middle school and down.”
She sat still and thought it through. Tim sighed. “Listen. You once told me that I was going to drive myself mad one day.”
“You are going to drive yourself mad one day.”
“Why?”
She huffed, already knowing what angle he was playing. “Because you worry too much and have overly controlling tendencies when left unchecked.”
“…Yeah. Sure.” He tried not to sound too resentful as she relayed his flaws so dispassionately. “So, where’s Miss “The Only Variable You Can Control Is Yourself”? Huh?” Tim nudged her jaw with his forehead, causing her to grumble. “You do you, Steph. The rest will fall into place. Come with me to this event. Play some foosball with kids.”
She screwed her eyes shut, and Tim watched her at the awkward angle. Finally, her internal battle ended, and she nodded her head.
“It’s another thing for the job if nothing else.”
“I’m not asking you to do it for the mission.” Tim breathed. He couldn’t stop staring at her mouth. “I mean it’s a side perk sure, but I just want it to remind you that you’re not a bad person.”
Stephanie finally pulled away, back under the covers of the bed. Her eyes were wet.
“I’m maybe not a bad person but I am a mess. Don’t know why you put up with me.”
“That’s okay.” And Tim crawled over to her. Being unbearably tender, he pulled all of her hair to one side and began to braid it, hoping it would help her sleep better than her usual tangled mop allowed. A sudden memory occurred to him, and he smiled absentmindedly. “You’re worth a few stomach ulcers.”
She looked at him suspiciously at his weird statement, handing him a hair tie from her wrist as he worked his way down. “I haven’t changed my mind. About what I said. I’m not emotionally ready to be with you. Not strong enough yet.”
“Do you want to be?” He asked, tone light, trying to not pressure her too much. He finished tying off the braid with an exaggerated snap of the elastic.
“With you?”
“Mm.”
“I do, Tim.”
“Then I’ll wait. After this mission is finished, we can… start from scratch again. Take it slow.”
“…I like the sound of that.”
“And in the meantime…” He got under the covers next to her. “We work on one thing at a time. Like a checklist. Number one, sleep and work off that injury.”
“Tim…” She smiled, but it was brittle and fell very quickly. Tim stroked loose strands of hair away from her face, and she shut her eyes. “How do you know I’m not just using you? You could be with someone like Tam right now. Why stay for the promise of maybe?”
“Well, firstly, you don’t have a manipulative bone in your body.”
“That’s a lie.” Her voice was starting to slur. She was growing heavier and sleepier with each moment.
He quickly rebuffed her rebuttal. “Mmm? I don’t know about that. And secondly,” He rested his hand on her cheek. “I don’t want Tam, or anyone else. Just you. I want to be happy. So, I want to stay in Gotham. I want Bruce to get off my case. I want to help people. And I want… I want you. That’s all. Think that’s…pretty standard for a guy in his twenties.”
Softly, slowly, Stephanie had moved closer and closer whilst Tim mused aloud. When they were sharing a pillow, Tim’s eyes drifted down to her lips again, and chewed his own nervously.
“You can kiss me.” She said, tone still flat. “If you want to. For real.”
“…Not good for you. You said. Once.”
“Once.”
But Tim knew she was only saying so to punish herself. He may have been sick in love with her, but he still wasn’t so far gone as to make out with someone who, as far as he knew, was still pretty high on painkillers.
Then their foreheads were touching, and Steph’s hands were burying into Tim’s hair. He felt awfully cruel when he did so, whilst knowing it was the right thing to do, but Tim reached down, under the sheets, and pushed four fingers into her stitches.
She shrieked, rolling away on to her back. Her cry turned into one of laughter, then she groaned, writhing a little under the sheets as the pain in her head and leg sharpened at the sudden movements.
“No funny business madam.”
Breathlessly, she grunted, nodding a little too fervently.
“Sure, sure.”
She was becoming that last stage of manic before the exhaustion caught up with her, so Tim tried to gently press down on her limbs, one by one, hoping to create a reassuring weight to help calm her down.
“Things will be better in the morning. You’ll see.” He laid back down, wrapping an arm around her, essentially making them spoon. His hand reached for hers, and he began to play with her ring. “Wanna take it off? To sleep?”
She shuffled backwards, until the curve of her spine pressed against his chest. “S’okay.” And then she yawned, nuzzling her way into the pillow.
They lay in comfortable silence for a long moment, before Tim reached back to turn off the lights. When his hand returned to hers, she called his name, though it sounded distant and fuzzy to her own ears, as she was half asleep when the thought came to her.
“Tim?”
“Mm?”
“You promise to wait for me? Just a bit longer?”
“Promise.”
She squeaked happily, then promptly began to snore. Gone. Tim chuckled, then closed his eyes.

TimSteph :>
DCAU only:Who is the fussy eater: Tim, although it’s more that he can’t eat sweets - especially pie - since it makes him sick due to clown phobia, as it reminds him of Harley’s “force-feeding” attempts (who’s a horrible cook btw).
Who is most likely to punch the other person’s sibling: Steph wouldn’t do that to Dick or Babs since she gets along with them fine, but she’d probably punch/slap Bruce if given the chance.
Who wants to go to Disneyland: Steph, but Tim would pass since he’s not big on the whole “amusement park” thing anymore.  He’ll go to keep the kids company but mostly stay at the hotel/off the rides and just watch them having fun, privately wishing they could remain this happy and innocent forever.
Who hates public transport: Tim doesn’t drive since he doesn’t really trust himself to take the wheel, but public transport has its drawbacks too as he’ll sometimes see Jokerz menacing other passengers (like in the first Batman Beyond episode), and it’s all he can do to just try to ignore it and pray they don’t target him (since it wouldn’t end well for either party).
Who gets arrested: Tim - especially as a teen when he has a lot of unchecked aggression and falls into some more… “unsavory” habits trying to self-medicate his depression/mental issues.
Who is great with kids: Both, surprisingly.  While Tim is terrified of being a father (due to his own terrible track record with them), he turns out to be a really great dad and loves his children (if acts a little overprotective of them).
Who ends up covered in glitter as a prank: Conner, actually.  Tim doesn’t deal well with pranks since he doesn’t like surprises (which Steph learned the hard way the first time), so Kon (and sometimes Dick) basically becomes her butt-monkey instead.  The two pretty much plot to try and one-up each other whenever they get a chance, and will try to persuade Cass to partner with them but she mostly stays out of the rivalry along with Tim.
Who has a weird coffee order: Steph, although Tim drinks a lot more of it on a regular daily basis.
Who gets up before 6am to exercise: Tim, but rather he rarely goes to sleep due to insomnia/nightmares.
Who hogs the netflix account: Steph.  Tim doesn’t watch a lot of television, other than the shows she screens for him and deems safe for them to watch together.  (Although somehow I get the feeling Bojack Horseman would be one of his favorites, or at least he’d find it all too relatable…)
Who knows all the lyrics to super horrendous bubbly pop songs: Steph, and she’ll sing them with her own piano accompaniment.
Who proposes: Tim, in a spur-of-the-moment decision when Steph finds out his secrets and still accepts him for it.
Who does petty shit when they’re annoyed: Tim, although usually he just sulks if it’s something minor, and Steph has to very patiently coax him to get him to tell her what’s wrong.
Who would take on stupid ridiculous dares: Used to be Tim, definitely not the case anymore.
Who can’t sing but always does anyway: I don’t think either of them necessarily has a bad voice, but Tim definitely doesn’t like to sing in public.  He’ll only do it quietly if they’re alone and Steph convinces him to.
Who screams at someone in public for making bigoted comments: Steph; much as Tim might also disagree, he doesn’t like to make a scene that would draw attention to himself.
Who freaks out about spiders: Steph.  Tim’s not bothered by them (besides he’s seen way scarier), but he’ll catch and release at her request to get rid of one rather than kill it, since he refuses to take another life, even one as small a spider’s.

▸      HAS    YOUR    MUSE    LOST    ANYONE    CLOSE    TO    THEM ?      HOW    HAS    IT    AFFECTED    THEM ? ha  ha  he  lost  his  best  friend  wally  recently  ( wally  in  the  speedforce:  quit  telling  people  i’m  dead! ).  he’s  also  lost  a  few  teammates  like  robin  ( jason  todd )  &  tula.  conner  takes  losing  teammates  especially  hard  &  tends  to  experience  survivors  guilt  &  almost  always  convinces  himself  that  there  was  something  he  could  have  done  to  save  them  because  he’s  supposed  to  be  “ super ”.  he  holds  himself  responsible  for  each  of  their  deaths  despite  not  even  being  there  at  the  time  of  their  deaths  in  the  first  place.  losing  wally  has  hit  conner  the  hardest  &  he’s  taken  to  self - isolating  &  has  been  closing  himself  off  to  others  more  so  than  usual.
▸      WHAT    ARE    SOME    FOND    MEMORIES    YOUR    MUSE    HAS ? almost  all  of  his  fondest  memories  involve  the  team.  the  weekend  he  stayed  at  wally’s  house  was  the  very  first  so  it’ll  always  be  the  first  memory  he  thinks  about  when  he  thinks  ‘ fond ’.  others  revolve  around  him  &  m’gann  when  they  were  together,  the  time  clark  taught  conner  kryptonian  while  they  shared  monitor  duty,  the  day  he  was  given  his  kryptonian  name  ‘ kon  el ’.  when  he  met  the  kents  for  the  first  time.
▸     IS    IT    EASY    FOR    YOUR    MUSE    TO    KILL ? it’s  extremely  easy  for  him  to  kill  given  his  powers  &  abilities  &  sometimes  it  takes  everything  in  him  not  to  hit  with  the  intention  of  killing.  conner  tries  to  live  by  clark / supermans  example  in  that  he  &  superman  must  uphold  a  higher  form  of  hero  in  which  taking  another’s  life  should  never  even  be  considered  no  matter  what  but  it’s  easier  said  than  done.  conner  was  literally  designed  &  specifically  created  to  be  a  weapon  for  cadmus  &  there  is  always  going  to  be  a  part  of  him  that  feels  the  urge  to  use  a  killing  blow.  he’s  only  killed  once  &  he  doesn’t  remember  doing  it.
▸      WHAT’S    IT    LIKE    WHEN    YOUR    MUSE    BREAKS    DOWN ? quiet.  lonely.  conner  never  ( or  very  rarely  if  ever )  lets  himself  break  down  in  front  of  others  because  of  his  aforementioned  impossible  standards  &  unrealistic  expectations  that he  puts  on  himself.  he  thinks  that  because  he’s  superman’s  clone  he  can’t  let  anyone  see  him  hurt,  vulnerable  or  defeated.  he’ll  break  down  in  private,  far  from  any  prying  eyes.
▸      IS    YOUR    MUSE    CAPABLE    OF    TRUSTING    SOMEONE    WITH    THEIR    LIFE ? yes.  he  trusts  his  team  with  his  life,  and  the  league.  civilians,  authority,  government,  scientists?  not  so  much.
▸      WHAT’S    YOUR    MUSE    LIKE    WHEN    THEY’RE    IN    LOVE ? he  can  be  a  little  overprotective  when  he  first  realizes  that  he’s  in  love  but  once  he  gets  over  that  he’s  the  softest  boy  you’ll  ever  meet.  he  wants  to  be  with  them  as  often  as  possible,  even  if  they’re  not  doing  anything  at  all.  people  that  conner  is  in  love  with  will  often  see  parts  of  himself  that  he  never  reveals  otherwise,  he’s  more  relaxed,  more  carefree  &  open  with  them  &  is  more  willing  to  do  something  spontaneous  &  make  a  fool  of  himself  around  them  than  he  is  with  anyone  else.

Edi Rudir headcanons
Edi loves to have the behind of her ears scratched, and purrs like a cat (Tamaraneans were descendants of cat-like creatures or something)
Edi loves catnip and whenever she gets some, she and Kori fight over it
Edi loves Disney and owns almost all the animated movies
One day Edi will be wearing the most adorable little dress or the cutest shirt with an adorable skirt and the next day she’ll have her hair in a messy bun with a shirt that flips you off and ripped pink short shorts with Starbucks and sunglasses not giving a shit and Kori wonders what happened to her innocent baby girl
Edi likes flying/floating more than walking
Headcanons w/ both versions of the Outlaws
Kori takes Edi with her on shopping trips for Roy and Jason, who they dragged along
When Edi lived with Kori, Roy, and Jason, she would draw on Jason’s helmet
No matter what age, when Edi would get scared at night, she would crawl into bed with one of them
Edi and Kori are like heaters (energy from the sun gives them powers or something?) and Roy and Jason love giving them hugs
Jason always puts his cold feet on Edi to make her scream and he just laughs
Roy tried to teach Edi how to shoot a bow and arrow but somehow she set the bow, arrow and target on fire
Jason cooks with Edi and only trusts her in the kitchen until she somehow set the sink on fire? Now Edi needs supervision
Artemis tolerates Edi at first then slowly starts to like the little alien
Artemis teaches Edi about Amazons and Edi teaches Artemis to speak Tamaranean
Bizzaro carries Edi around either in his arms or on his shoulders
Edi loves to make flower crowns for Bizzaro, who loves to wear them
Artemis, Bizzaro, and Edi have weekend game and movie nights
Edi and Bizzaro have flying contests
Artemis takes Edi to Themyscera every few months
Artemis and Bizzaro train with Edi. At first, they were careful but when she kicked their asses every time, they always make it a goal to try to beat her
After the orphanage got blown up, Kori, Roy, Jason, Artemis, and Bizzaro did their best to help Edi out of her depression and make her feel better
Edi always calls Jason, Roy and Bizzaro her uncles, and calls Artemis her aunt
Edi has nicknames for everyone. Artemis is Aunt Arty, Bizzaro is Uncle Biz, Roy is Uncle Roy Ahoy (she saw the cereal chips ahoy don’t question this) and Jason is Uncle Jay or Uncle Jaybird
Whenever they go out someplace, they put a leash on Edi’s belt so she doesn’t fly away because Edi always gets lost
Roy, Artemis, Kori, Jason and Bizzaro are all overprotective of Edi
Edi loves her large, dysfunctional family
Headcanons w/ her and Conner Kent/Kon
Edi first met Kon through Kori and Clark
Kon tried to impress her
Edi was flustered around Kon and would hide behind her large, poofy hair
Kon is actually really good at braiding hair and braids Edi’s hair, sometimes adding flowers to the braid
Edi makes Kon watch Disney movies with her, and even though he won’t admit it, he likes them
Kon has to at least give Edi one compliment a day
When Kon found out Edi likes catnip, he buys her a bunch and won’t stop teasing her about it
Sometimes Edi and Kon will just lay on the couch and Kon will rub behind Edi’s ears while she purrs
Kon loves to hug, cuddle, and just have any physical contact with Edi
Edi gets her powers from the sun (I saw this somewhere idk??) so she has to show some amount of skin and she loves going to the beach
Kon loves how smooth Edi’s skin is and just randomly runs his hands over her arms or takes her hands
Kon buries his face in Edi’s hair which always makes Edi laugh
Edi will FiGhT anyone who flirts with or fights Kon
Edi will just randomly pick Kon up and fly in the air and kiss him
Edi and Kon have arm wrestling tournaments on Mondays with each other and Clark and Kori
Kon loves to spoil Edi whenever he can, and Edi is always a blushing embarrassed mess, telling him he doesn’t have to
Kon keeps pictures of Edi in his wallet/pocket
