I agree with you totally and to add something, Im white and it is extremely easy to be respectful? Like you dont have to be too smart to know that because you are white that doesnt mean everyone else reading is, and the people that are like “im just not used to it/ idk how to not write white reader/ being inclusive is too difficult" and else are really self-centered and probably kind of racist people, not only to black people but to any POC. If you are going to describe the reader as white, dont even call it an "x reader"🙄

i feel like some people need to hear that. there is no default besides being human. and hate to burst anyone's bubble but we're all fucking humans. You and your experiences are not universal.

not everyone blushes visibly, or has hair that fingers can be ran through, or can go straight to cuddling someone as soon as they get through the door.

sometimes our skin is too dark, or our hair is too thick, or getting free of our outside clothes is the most important thing to do when getting home. and thats okay.

adding a little "written with white reader mind" or "written with straight reader in mind" or "written with able-bodied reader in mind" helps so much. like let. us. know. please.

cause it hurts to be knee deep in a fic and then have to recalibrate and ask yourself if this character would like you if you're not white. and feeling like the answer is no? that shit SUCKS ASS.

and if you feel called out by this? That's fine. you don't deserve death or a curse on your whole bloodline. just make the effort to acknowledge this and add those warnings in the future. adjust the tags you use in your fics! I'll do it too!

If I make a mistake tell me! don't tell me to die bc i forgot a warning. be humane.

the problem is when people act like they are above adding these warnings. or acknowledging that they accidentally considered their fic inclusive when it wasn't.

im not writing all this to make people feel bad. I'm just passionate and like making bold words and using all caps. If you realize that you've been doing some of these things just make your future works more inclusive or add those warnings.

if you "don't know how to write a non-white reader" or something. the xreader tag is for everyone, sure. but you can tag your fic as xreader and xwhite!reader or xfem!reader. it's not hard, really.

i also don't want to take away from anon's original statements. so i just want to ask anyone reading this to maybe reread what they said. since i drifted away from that topic and i think they said it very well!

also wanna add that xwhite!reader isn't even really a tag? like it didn't pop up as i typed it so.. maybe we can make that a thing?

Morning Confessions | Laurence Zvhal

"Hi can I request a fic with Laurance complementing the reader but she doesn’t believe him and he tries to prove that he serious?"

AN : SO, I tried to follow the request :) AND I have two more Laurence ficss coming soon (a siren x Laurence one and an angsty Laurence one both of which are long asf), so I wanted to get this one written!

Laurence was so handsome…he had such a charm to him, and gosh even just a light graze of his touch would send Shivers up your spine. And he knew this, he knew because he looked at you a lot more now than before. His ‘accidental’ touches seemed to happen more now.

Some people would say he might be feeling the same way you do, but his eyes were for lord aphmau, not for you. And those thoughts alone kept you from asking him if he felt the same. He was just teasing you at this point, toying with you the way a flirt would with anyone, you and him being friends didn't make much of a difference either.

And this morning was no different, Laurence and you were both sitting in the town square, both sipping your respective drinks, chatting the early morning away. It was so nice, being able to meet with Laurence like this, sure you wished you'd be able to call this a date…but it was ok! You were content.

“Really! Come on, how long do you think Brendon will really be into kawaii-chan?” Laurence questioned, “I dunno? The real question is when another person will catch His eye” you answered jokingly. “True. I'm surprised he hasn't tried his hand at aphmau” Laurence joked before he took another sip of his drink. You Shrugged and Looked back out at the main square looking around, no one was really out this early, most still being inside asleep. It was quiet for a moment before you felt Laurence's eyes on you, you held still trying to act like you didn't notice, “your eyes look really pretty against the morning light, has anyone ever told you that?” Laurence asked, his voice a tad bit more serious this time.

You felt your stomach get butterflies over his words…his tone, and the idea that it Was directed to you? You turned your head to him and laughed softly, “and who are you trying to impress Mr?” You asked as you shook your head, “you're just being nice” you cleared your throat trying not to sound too shaken up by his words. “No, I'm being serious. your eyes are absolutely beautiful, if you don't mind” as the last Few words of his sentence left his mouth he set his drink on the floor and slowly cupped your cheeks, forcing you to face him, “let me get a closer look, honey” the pet name rolling off his tongue easily. His eyes narrowed as he focused on your eyes.

You felt your face get warm, hell you felt your whole body get warm as the man in front of you studied your face, “your eyes are stunning” he moved his bottom lip between his teeth as he tilted his head.

You couldn't take it as you pulled away and stood up, “oh wow, haha. Funny joke Laurence you can quit it now” you waved him off and faced away from him, trying to calm yourself down.

“joke?” Laurence joined you in standing up. “I'm not kidding. seriously” he insisted. Before you looked back at him with some fake unimpressed look. “Laurence you gotta stop testing out your little pick up lines on me” you said with a small smile and furrowed brows. Your look was matched with laurences confused look, “testing? You think I'm testing them on you?” He asked, almost flabbergasted. “yeah? For lord aphmau, you know full well she'd never let you cup her face like that” you continued with a small hum.

Laurence was quiet for a while, he was absolutely surprised you'd even bring lord aphmau into this when he had been trying to hint at you for months about his feelings about you.

“none of anything I've said to you has been for testing, not for lord aphmau or anyone else.” He stated, his eyes slightly more assured, “to put it quite frankly you're the only one I've used these ‘pick up lines’ on. His words were very self assured which made you confused, “wait so…everything you've said- no way laurence” you couldn't even fathom it. “No way? No way I'm looking at you with hearts in my eyes?” Laurence joked as he crossed his arms. “No way I say these things to get you flustered?” He continued, “no way I say what I mean?” He whispered close to your ear.

You shook your head, “no that'd mean-” you started as Laurence nodded, “that I've fallen for you?” Laurence finished. He nodded with a laugh. His hand slowly grazing your shoulder as he moved in front of you, "Baby, im in love with you. And eyes don't lie. It's clear you feel the same, " he purred as he moved closer to you. "So understand my words are made for only you to hear," he continued. "So please... take my compliment?" He asked with that stupid smirk you hated to love. It was when your eyes met his once more that you slowly smiled and nodded.

what's your total ao3 word count? 2,230,172. that feels like a lot. i’m like 26 years into this gig. 

what fandoms do you write for? the closer/major crimes, stargate sg1, and star trek: voyager are kind of the big three, but i dabble around. 

what are your top five fics by kudos? all i know is we said hello and your eyes looked like coming home - 1523 kudos where i’m going now, i don’t know - 1086 kudos the rise, fall, and rebirth of hermione granger - 1048 kudos the devil’s right there in the details - 1028 kudos here comes the rush before we touch - 940 kudos

do you respond to comments? why or why not? for a long time i wasn’t very good at it because the idea of that kind of interaction made me a little anxious, but once we made the leap to ao3, i feel like the mechanism for giving and receiving comments was overall better and now i at least try to respond to the majority. sometimes if someone is reading something and comments on every chapter, i’ll just respond to their final comment, but most likely if you leave me a comment i will (eventually) reply back.

what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I would say either Sometimes So Sweet, Sometimes So Lonely which is the last part of the Beauty and Nothing More series which was… controversial. Well. I think people didn’t like it, but respected it, if that makes sense. OR Eighteen Again which is old and I think if I rewrote, I could do it better but I never will. Oh actually I’m wrong, it’s Deep City Lights. For sure, for sure.  

what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? MAYBE These Hearts Adore? PERHAPS something else but mostly all you get is happy endings, I think. 

do you get hate on fics? no. which is so nice. thanks guys. 

do you write smut? if so, what kind? the gay kind mostly! i didn’t always but i do now, so you’ll find it in my more recent stuff. 

do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written? I wrote a Sanctuary story that takes place in the Buffy universe, kind of. An alternate universe. (Just a Whisper in the Dark.) I wrote a Voyager story that kind of waded into TNG a little. (And Beneath That, A Rebel Heart.) I think those are as close as I ever got. 

have you ever had a fic stolen? i don’t think so? i’ve had lines lifted. you know where i’ve been going along reading a fic of someone who maybe isn’t a mutual but is in the circle and it starts feeling real familiar, but not the whole thing, to my knowledge. 

have you ever had a fic translated? yes, definitely. some people ask, some don’t.

have you ever co-written a fic before? yes, This Body’s Yours and This Body’s Mine was a co-write as was Hot as a Fever, Rattle of Bones.

From Midnights at Mona's...

One thing was for sure: [Luke's] feelings toward Julie Molina were undeniable, and they were powerful. Whether those feelings leaned more toward “kill Julie Molina” or “kiss Julie Molina” remained to be seen.

I shan't lie, this was NOT a totally original thought. There was a cartoon I LOVED as a kid, and two characters on opposing sides were falling for each other. The man, who was on the good side, finally told the bad-guy woman, "Well at this point you have two options: kiss me or kill me," and I've NEVER forgotten it! SO, we use it here!

19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs.

As if she read his mind, Felicity copied his movement and laid her up-turned arm next to his on the counter. “Yeah,” she said softly. “Same blood.” She giggled. “Two or three centuries removed, maybe, but...”  As much as it scared him, Luke once again found her eyes, their alarming shade of blue slowly fading back to brown as the sparks gently disappeared from the air. Never in his twenty-three years had he seen her eyes that color, and yet the sight filled every inch of him with a familiar ache that pushed tears down his cheeks.  He knew its name instantly. He’d become quite accustomed to it over the years, what with the unending void his dad’s death left inside his heart.  Longing.

The barista, who’d befriended Julie almost immediately when she transferred to the Chattanooga Police Department four months ago, swiped a lock of deep purple hair behind her ear, grinned, and gave a salute. “Hey, gotta show proper respect for Chattanooga’s finest,” she said, slapping an extra couple of regular buttered croissants in the bag.  “Kayla!”  Kayla just winked. “On the house to thank you for your service. Pay me back by busting some bad guys, girl!”  Julie shook her head but turned and raised her cup in acknowledgment as she pushed open the coffee shop door and made her way back to the unmarked Explorer she shared with her partner.  Detective Reggie Peters reached across the console and pushed open the passenger door for her. “Uh-huh,” he said into his phone as he jotted down an address on a small notepad. “Booker T. Washington State Park, I got it, Flynn. We’ll be there in ten.” He hit the end button and sighed as he reached for the coffee Julie held out. “Alas, sweet Julie, breakfast is on the run today. Got a body.”  Julie shook her head and handed Reggie his mocha. “Assholes start earlier and earlier these days,” she said, a all-too-familiar wave of anger clouding her chest as they pulled out of the Sparks Coffee House parking lot. Had anyone asked her what she wanted to do with her life when she was a little girl, she definitely never would have said, “I want to be a homicide detective!” In truth, she’d always wanted to be a singer, touching the masses with her music and bringing a little bit of life back into the world.  But life had other plans.

woo okay so when I started MAG I had a very clear image of Jon’s character in my head. A very old, very grouchy old man w/ some trace of South/East Asian descent who definitely had like a coin collection or something. So when I find out Jon is much younger than I first thought I was left scrabbling in my brain because okay, he’s young, but then in addition the widely accepted depiction of Jon is so far off from what I initially envisioned. (not that I don’t LOVE the design, I simply think I would do it injustice in my art style)

So after that I was terrified to touch his character at all. Like I was all the way through s4 before I started really jotting things down for Jon. I was having such a difficult time with it that I worked on it throughout all of s5, and finished 200 and still had no idea what to do for his design. So I kinda gave up, turned to fanart and fics to look for inspiration, and then started to see that the fandom literally had a separation of the characters’ development. Tags like “s1 Jon” or “s4 Martin”. So then my brain turned on again and said “okay, so I need to draw different people!” And so I did.

Hopping into s1 Jon’s design, I hate it. I hate it so much. I toiled for a good two hours for this one sketch and I hate it. But that’s it’s intention and I find it hilarious. S1 Jon killed me dude. He made me so uncomfortable and annoyed but he was written so well that he kinda turned into a hard to swallow pill. So I made that my design. The hard ass, the skeptic, everything about Jon that I, Tim, Sasha, Martin HATED and I made it s1 Jon. So yeah, my s1 Jon design makes me writhe in pain but I revel in the fact that I accomplished my goal for him in that respect.

s2-s4 Jon is like pinnacle accomplishment for me. I tasked myself to make Jon not differ in appearance too greatly, but to appear younger, as in those seasons he is incredibly naive and paranoid, in an indignant-child kind of way. All the same, he is fighting with existentialism. Gotta love juxtaposition ig. Anyways, the differences are self explanatory for the most part. The untucked shirt, the mismatched socks, the unkempt appearance all around. Children and existential adults both have trouble keeping up with appearances and hygiene, hence those decision. The body language is a given too lmao.

S5 Jon is still kind of up in the air as to my decisions on his design. If you’re an character design over-analyst like me I love suggestions. And god forbid if you read all of this thank ya kindly lmao.

i did just answer this same question here, but i think ill challenge myself to list 3 new things.

the sheer amount of toxic yaoi and toxic yuri appreciation in the rain code fandom. yall are so fucking real for this

the tgaa fandom's uncanny ability to bring out the most banger character analyses. just, genuinely amazing. whether it's character study fanfiction or essays written out on tumblr, i eat it up because so many are legitimately compelling. this is especially a shoutout to @hikari-kaitou's many posts about translation differences and general analysis that really changed my perspective on some characters, as well as one of my favorites- this novel length kazuma analysis. these things live rent free in my head and i always admire people who are able to articulate so many complex thoughts around stories and characters like this

i've gained some really amazing friends through both of these fandoms. just, people i genuinely enjoy talking to and that in turn makes me enjoy the source material even more

8. you hope more people will come to appreciate ___ (a ship, a trope, an episode, etc)

found family where the roles are really nebulous. don't get me wrong, if people enjoy the classic "these are the parents and these are all the siblings they adopted" that's fine and dandy enjoy your media however you want! i even enjoy it often enough and think it's cute

but. on the rare occasion i see it depicted in a way that's hard to label, it makes me so extremely excited and filled with glee. i'm sorry im gonna ramble for a moment

so for example, yakou and yuma. as much as i also enjoy the yakou fathero headcanon, i've gone insane over the one or two times i've seen them depicted closer to canon's explicit dynamic of "shitty boss and intern who are also roommates and mentor/mentee, except who is the mentor and who is the mentee changes at the drop of a hat and they BOTH fucking suck at it!!! yakou is yuma's savior, and yuma is (unintentionally) yakou's nuclear hazard level threat. the game very subtly implies that these two go out for drinks together, and yuma "millions in debt" kokohead still has to pay often enough for him to be surprised at the idea of yakou offering to do so. yuma respects yakou greatly, but of the NDA, yuma is snippiest with yakou and quickest to call the man out on his bullshit. it takes more time for him to act this way with shinigami than his own fucking boss. there are more things i could say, but they're spoilers so dont worry about it.

yakou is almost the arataka reigen to yuma's mob, but i can't even confidently make that comparison because they feel more equal than that. they feel more casual than that. i struggle to put a label to it and that's what i love about them. i would love to see more of this in general, for both fandoms i'm in, because it's fun as hell whenever i do see it

11. if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?

you know what, i'm pretty proud of my latest art, because i've finally drawn a background i dont mind looking at! ^w^

13. your favorite type of fandom event (gift exchange, ship week, secret santa, prompt meme, etc)

gotta say ship week, since it's the only one of these listed that i've actively participated in. prompt memes and gift exchanges are amazing too! i think i'd wanna get in on those someday. i dont celebrate christmas so secret santa's out of the cards for me. it'd be cool to see more similar events that aren't themed around holidays.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Teen Wolf primarily, only one of my published fics is for another fandom (What We Do in the Shadows). I do have WIP fics in that fandom as well as Stranger Things and Hannibal, though I don't know if they'll ever get finished or published haha.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yep! Pretty much all of them! At least all initial comments, and as long as they're made in good faith. Criticism or petty shit I pretty much just ignore. I just know I always like it when authors reply to me, so I like to reply as well. It's a good feeling!!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Depends on how you're defining your angst, but I'm personally going to go with For This I'll Burn where Stiles lets the nogitsune in on purpose. 4,409 words, no pairing.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Tough one! I'd have to say either Foxes and Wolves or The "No-Bite" Rule. They're both Steter HEAs (5,289 and 3,869 words respectively). Forever might look different for Stiles and Peter than it does for other people, but they definitely deserve it.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have before. Most of the time I can just shrug it off, and it doesn't really bother me. Like I said, I just don't engage with those bad faith comments. I got one on Hearts in the Byline while I was writing it (I believe it has since been deleted lmfao I couldn't find it) on a chapter that asked if someone else had written it because the quality was so bad and they felt it was so incongruous from the story. It was hurtful and awful and at the time it really sucked. I think I've grown as an author and something like that wouldn't bother me as much anymore, but that was my second or third fic, and the longest one I'd written (and still holds that, I think, lol).

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes :-) Some from my own brain and others requested from me. And all sorts!

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven't yet. I have one TW/Buffy crossover WIP that I don't know if I'll ever really get to finish, but I'd like to. It's more of a fusion than a crossover, anyway.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of! Hopefully it stays that way haha.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Once! Someone translated The "No-Bite" Rule into Ukrainian here.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have not! But I would try, I think it seems fun.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

It's gotta be Steter, man.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't know! I would definitely like to finish all my WIPs, but it's probably unrealistic. Writer in the Dark is a Kira/Cora WIP that I started but lost motivation for. I hope to revisit it someday, but if something won't get finished, that's probably it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Character growth! I feel like I do a good job showing how characters have changed through the narrative over time, no matter if that's years or months or even a very impactful night.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action is definitely one. I struggle to write combat scenarios (the closest I've gotten with it would be in Mission Control, I think). I'm also not always great at balancing background characters/b-plots. I've had comments before like, "where did x character go???" and I'm like "shit. forgot they were here tbh." But I'm working on it!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I probably wouldn't do it, write dialogue not in English. The only exception might be German, since it's what I studied as a second language, but even then I'm rusty enough that I wouldn't trust it well. Anything else I'd be tossing in Google Translate and hoping for the best, so it's a no-go for me. I've used pet names or short phrases in another language before, but that's really the extent of it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Technically Marvel but none of what I wrote is up anywhere (that it can be traced back to me, lol, all of those works are orphaned). That I actually count? Teen Wolf.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

I think it has to be Down to the Marrow. I just really, really loved writing that fic. I think it will always have a very special place in my heart. Before then, since it was so recent, I probably would've said Shall We Not Revenge?

I swear to god if I don’t make a short fancomic out of this, I’m gonna save it for characters in one of my own stories. I love when Mutou Yugi’s drawn with painted nails, and going off that headcanon, what if while he was redoing his own, Yugi once offered to paint Jonouchi's nails?

I'm sure he'd be all like Eh... eh??? ME??? at first cuz GNC/lowkey metal goth aint typically his thing, so he gets all flustered, but Yugi assures him it'll be fun, and sure enough, they do have fun with it. Yugi would mostly have black and berry-color polishes, but maybe he found a sea green that’d match what Jonouchi usually wears-- he forgot he how he picked it up that one time cuz the color reminded him of Timaeus.

Honda tries teasing Jonouchi about it when they see each other later, cuz they got major sibling energy and gotta tease each other about everything, but Jonouchi shuts him up real fast cuz His Best Bro made those nails all nice for him, so show some respect for the job he did!

Cut to trouble finding Jonouchi later and he gets all pissed off at the bad guy, not because they roughed him up a bit but because they messed up the special work Yugi took the time to do for him to give him a chance to enjoy trying something new! Cut forward again to Jonouchi apologizing that he couldn't keep his nails in perfect condition for long, but Yugi assures him it's okay, he can always redo them, no nail art lasts too long before it chips off anyway, and it honestly doesn’t matter to him compared to worrying for Jonouchi’s well-being.

Yes, I’ve basically already written out a short pre-DSOD fic trying to script out a storyboard to draw out later, they have a conversation between base coat and top coat applications trying-not-trying to talk about how they’re feeling and how Jonouchi’s proud of Yugi for coming into his own strength, no I have no problem with anyone else beating me to it if it gets the idea out there faster.

You gotta be real careful if you're gonna BOTH trash the source material AND say you're gonna write a fic with better plot and dialogue.

'Cause, we all critique the things we love, but the people who wrote the source material got paid for that. They have met a bar many fanfic writers have not. Some of us also get paid to write IRL - and some who don't get paid write AMAZING things anyway - but as a rule, I approach fanfic reading with a pinch of salt, 'cause most of it... it's not professional standard and that's OK, right?

But if you really lay in thick about how you hate the source material AND think the writing is bad, so you just HAVE to write fanfic to do a better job...

I mean...

You better be writing some stellar fuckin' fanfic, you feel me?

And as a rule, I tend to find that anyone who's got good at writing has developed some respect for others who are professional writers - not because we like everything every other professional writer produces, but because we know what it takes to get there.

And quite apart from all that... you know most people reading fanfic are in the fandom because we *love* the source material... right? We might have some significant issues with it. We might disapprove of things said or done by the creators. We might have written lengthy critiques. But all of that comes from a place of passion about *something* in the source we really liked.

So, I'm just saying, if your opening notes say you hate the thing we all love, and that the writing is terrible, AND that you're gonna do better... even if you're Willy Shakespeare, you have set yourself up for a fall. I am probably not gonna give as much salt to you as I would most fic writers if your writing is missing something.

I wish I could remember who I first heard this from, because it's so helpful, but when you see something you think is bad writing become successful, try not to get bent out of shape about the injustice of it. Instead, ask yourself *why* it was successful. Because it's not *just* nepotism/privilege etc (although that often plays a part). If it's successful, it means a lot of people *did* like it enough to buy it. There was *something* there that was worth having. And it may be something your own work lacks.

I first heard this said about Twilight, and that tracks for me. Because I tried to read the first book and I didn't get past the first ten pages. I don't think it's well-written. But the writing meets a publishable bar a lot of fanfic doesn't, and I'm not mad it's successful. Stephenie Meyer tapped into a BUNCH of tropes a lot of people really fucking like - and some of those *I* like. That's why I tried to read it.

I can learn things from Meyer's success, instead of resenting it.

Instead of starting by saying the source material sucks and you're gonna do better (insulting the creators and fans and bigging yourself up), why not just say 'I always wished they had done THIS; so I wrote it!'

There's nothing wrong with writing fix it fics or AUs or 'what if canon, but scientifically accurate' or whatever it was you didn't like - these are among the many great ways fanfic writers try to improve on things they didn't like in the source material. But you can do that without insulting eeeeeverybody, you know?

Whatever other flaws a creator has (probably many, they're human - unless they're chatgpt, in which case why were you supporting theft by reading it? Don't read AI-written fic) they still created a world and characters that captured people's imagination and hung together well enough for people to want to write more in that world. That is a legitimate skill. It's the main thing that makes fanfic writing much, much easier than original fiction writing - I say this as someone who writes both. Quite frankly, this is why I've only published short fiction and non-fiction myself: I have never finished writing an original fiction novel. It's a huge amount of work. It is SO much easier playing in a world someone else made.

There is some great writing in fanfic. Some of it is better than the source material. All of it is based on a foundation someone else laid. A foundation that could only be laid with hard work, experience, and skill.

Respect is cheap, you know? And it makes it easier to learn from those who have gone before.

[These points do not apply to critiquing bigoted content in source material or bigoted behaviour by creators. I'm sure many fanfic writers are much better people than some who have gained great success. You don't have to respect any of that - I don't. I'm specifically talking about notes that say the source writing is bad and they hate the work AND the fanfic writer is gonna do a better job across the board. That's the point at which I start giving the side-eye.]

Hello! I hope you’re having a good day so far, I was just wondering how you came to discover amberpricefield and how did your love for this ship spark? Was there any particular moment or event that set it off or was it a more gradual thing?

Oh boy strap in Anon cause I’m about to give you my Life is Strange backstory lmao buckle up kids!

So I played LiS back when it first came out and I was OBSESSED with Pricefield. I loved everything about Max and Chloe’s dynamic. The emotion, drama, loyalty, gay, everything, love them, still do, always will. And while I loved Pricefield, I hated Rachel Amber. All of you peeking at my Rachel icon, all my lovingly written Rachel fics, how I simp for her on the reg:

But I’m serious. I hated her. Venomously. Couldn’t stand even hearing her name. Every time Chloe mentioned her I was yelling at my TV for her to shut up cause Max was right there. I spent a good like year and a half hating Rachel Amber with every fibre of my being. And then—mark your calendars—early in April of 2017 I discovered the fan made visual novel Love is Strange (if you’ve never played it you gotta it’s glorious, gay, soft, 10/10). And because it’s so well made and I love this universe I knew I had to do every route, even though I fucking hated Rachel and wanted nothing to do with her. So after doing everyone else’s I begrudgingly gave her route a try. And Anon My third eye opened. My dead heart revitalized. I’m not sure exactly what moment it was, maybe it was gradual, probably, it’s a blur of feelings and me losing my mind, but I was completely seduced. SHE’S HELLA CHARMING I HAD NO CHANCE. By the end of Rachel’s route not only did my opinion of her entirely 180, but I was head over heels in love with her. And this made me replay LiS with a fresh perspective. I payed more attention. I respected Chloe’s feelings. Let my empathy guide me forward. I tried looking at these events from Rachel’s point of view rather than just blaming her for everything and pointing fingers. Everything that made me feel burning hatred before just made me sad now, made me yearn, made me wish Max could meet Rachel, that Rachel could’ve been given the chance to explain herself, apologize, to become a better person. (Thankfully fanfic writers exist to give her that chance, including myself). So at this point I loved Pricefield, loved Amberfield, and because of the connection between the three characters and what Max would have to go through to save both of them in a perfect timeline, I grew attached to Amberpricefield, I wanted to see them happy and soft and in love, and this sudden spark inspired me to write my first Life is Strange fic which was “Every Step of the Way.” I wasn’t quite sold on Amberprice though, despite this. Mostly because at that point we’d never seen Chloe and Rachel interact. All we knew were some not quite so great things, and with only those things to go on I didn’t think they could last without Max involved to mellow them. And since Life is Strange gave me Pricefield and Love is Strange gave me Amberfield that’s where my passions were strongest. Then the trailer for Before the Storm came out. And the rest is history really lmao I fucking fell in love with Amberprice (anyone who’s seen my reaction to the Amberprice kiss knows how true this is lmfao) and in turn my love for Amberpricefield increased to unbeatable, insatiable levels. And the fandom was so huge at this time that I kinda unknowingly and unintentionally dragged a bunch of people along with me 😂 (to those still here, I love you). And deadass through falling for Amberpricefield and writing about them I realized I was polyamorous myself and god how FREEING it was to realize this I’m telling you. Life-changing. I owe them everything. I owe this series and fandom everything. Life is Strange has taken me on such a journey, how such a burning hatred became such a tender love, and without that journey none of my fics would’ve been written, I wouldn’t have met / bonded with many of the friends I have now, and wouldn’t be who I am today. 2023 FFRC - July🌞

Hello friends! July passed in the blink of an eye. I'm definitely not looking forward to the end of summer (because it snows like 9 months of the year where I live and I just want to freaking enjoy my back-yard okay!?) Anyway - I hope you've all been enjoying the sunshine.

As far as the @fanfic-reading-challenge goes- I’m 5 tasks away from finishing the whole thing - (4 of which I can’t finish until December) so that’s neat. Gotta get up to 15 million words and then I'll just be waiting to finish the monthly tasks. This month I got to help Juulna sort out next year's list of tasks though and that was a super fun time.

As you can see, I read lots of really great stories this month. I reread a lot of fic and then double read fics too - there isn't a lot of new content for Wenvier so I reread over and over again. It's never a bad time to reread. I also read a Needle Bughead story that I'd held off on because of the tags - but it was wonderful - as all of her stories are. I'm glad I came back to that one. And given the circumstances, I think I'm going to deep dive into some Fexi favourites this week - so if you have any suggestions, please send them my way. 💔

Notes: It's always a special treat when someone gifts you a fic. BUT it's even more special when the fic is as fun and lovely as this one. Wednesday is forced to be an advice columnist and Xavier unknowingly bears is soul to her. It's funny and sweet and yet still perfectly in character. It's wonderful. Read and Review. Do it! 😉

Xavier Knows Wednesday Loves Him (series) by Agmo (Wenvier - T/E 4 fics) 

Summary: Xavier keeps a running list in a notebook in his desk drawer.

Notes: This story started out with one story with bullet points of how Xavier knew Wednesday Loved him - then expanded into this SUPER cute fic with a chapter for each one of those points (but the chapters are sometimes only a few lines long). Then there are a couple more one-shots to really flesh out some of the bigger points. And each and every one of them was delightful. All told, the series of 4 stories is only 20,000 words, so it's not long but it's wonderful and funny and touching and perfect. Give it a try!

Starving Faithful by @shesonlylittle (Fez/Lexi- E 1/1)  Summary: In most respects, he’s a nineteen year old. With the glaring exception that he can feel where his wings have been clipped— and that he can nudge the material world a little, here and there, from time to time.  He has childhood memories, a normal human’s wants and desires, but he also knows he’s got a divine mission. And that he has it because he fucked up somehow. Ash was supposed to be his redemption. He was supposed to watch over him, keep him safe.  -- or: Fallen Angel Fez has one last shot at redemption, his new charge Lexi Howard. Guardian Angels probably shouldn't be down bad for the humans in their safekeeping, though. Notes: I have a lot of feelings right now. After yesterday's news - the first thing I did was go find and read a Fexi fic to calm my broken heart. This one is SO good. Fez is SO well written. And there is a lot of neat religiosity that fits with him too. It hurts to read because we've lost Angus - but it has a happy ending and it's beautiful. So you should read it too!

I get a lot of “this is well written”. I had to go ask other people what exactly that meant, I guess is that it’s technical skill in writing? Which I am of course very critical of in myself,  because I have high standards and have read too much fic by bestselling authors etc. I taught standardized test writing prep, so I have a lot of rules baked in (though I can not explain many). Probably it’s also good word choice and stuff, I know a lot of words from smart books and smart friends?

I also get complimented on my voices/characterizations, which I love to hear because I work HARD on those. When I did little yuletide fics, I always did weird things like commercials where there was no canon voice to match, because it terrifies me.  have a big google doc where i take notes of frequent words and turns of phrase etc that people use. (if anyone wants to see, dm me)

As for characterization… most of my creative writing before 2020 was larp characters for other people to play. You gotta quickly communicate the entirety of a person, their hopes and dreams and fears and most importantly (to me) their relationships, so that was always my focus. Talking about what the moon looks like? That was a waste of words when I needed to get as full a person as possible in their heads - and my sheets were always considered way too long. “Describe things better” is the main thing I’m working on right now, and I still often call in @toasted-cricket to say what moon look like.

I’m not going to count my two smalletho fics from last week cause they are new (even though I know how this works and they’re unlikely to get a spike, and I do wish they’d gotten more love), but damn I poured my soul into Love, Respect, Joy and Ranchin’. https://archiveofourown.org/works/42834159 I thought I did it really well, I got a fwhimmy expert in, I got a hermit expert in, it meant a lot to me.  (And I wrote soooo much outline/prose for the smutty sequel, but I’m not eager to do crossover based ranchers right now. But it’s good.).

I’m glad you do, I’m glad it brought you some amusement/pleasure/satisfaction/etc but can you tell me why, please? I have watched that one and Love & Ranchin’ bounce up and down with kudos and, man. I *knew* you can’t predict what people will like but I didn’t *understand* how much you can’t predict what people will like! It’s so much more maddening than I expected. 

Also the rats smp https://archiveofourown.org/works/42498345 fic, but as i only wrote one and don’t read any I don’t have much sense… okay let’s look. it’s #39 out of 149 by kudos, not bad, not bad. The one thing I can’t comprehend is how my kudos:comments ratio is 115:1. It’s so wildly disparate with my empires/traffic fic. I have to imagine if it had stayed at zero comments, someone else would have done a pity comment at some point.
