AGNOSTHESIA (n.) - the state of not knowing how you really feel about something, which forces you to sift through clues hidden in your behavior, as if you were some other person—noticing a twist of acid in your voice, an obscene amount of effort put into something trifling, or an inexplicable weight on your shoulders that makes it difficult to get out of bed.

Delta has a LOT of complicated feelings about Piper, none of which xe is fully equipped to process.

Xir original written role - a logical, no-nonsense cyborg officer - was never meant to feel emotions in the first place. Naturally, finding out that xe is capable of feeling things other than disdain is an unwelcome and distressing change... But not one xe couldn't handle. Xe's been adapting pretty well to the whole "having feelings" thing, actually. Still kind of a stick in the mud, but not completely socially inept.

That is, until Piper becomes a problem.

Neither xir squishy human brain nor xir robotic functionality seem to be able to agree on what emotion Piper elicits in xir. Is xe jealous? Of Piper being so jovial after experiencing so many terrifying adventures, when Delta has been traumatized by literal child's play? Does xe respect Piper for that? Xe isn't stupid. Xe watched xir show's protagonist and his conventionally-attractive female sidekick dance around each other. But there's no way this feeling could be that, when Delta feels like xe loathes Piper so much.

(Spoiler alert: it is That. It's that, but also all of the other things. At the same time. Good thing they aren't roommates with someone who's really annoying about Romance and Attraction, right?)

Yaldev is a sci-fantasy worldbuilding project by Ulysses Maurer, with art by Beeple. By looking at narratives, stylized loredumps, bad poetry and little details, we'll witness the story of a planet filled with magical power, the nation which tried to conquer it, this empire’s dramatic collapse and the new world which emerged in its wake.
