“Where are you going?”
Peter froze in his tracks when he heard Mays voice coming from the kitchen. He recognized that tone. That tone meant she was suspicious of something and usually, she was right to be. Peter walked back into the kitchen and put on an innocent smile.
“The bathroom. To tinkle.”
“Again? You were in there a long time before dinner.” May pointed out and rested her chin in her hands. Peter gulped, knowing that was her interrogation pose.
“I know. But I drank a lot of water during dinner.”
“Oh, I see. Why don’t you go in this one?” May asked and pointed to the hallway bathroom.
“You caught me.” Peter forced a laugh. “I have to deuce and I like to do it in the privacy of my own bathroom.”
“Hm.” May nodded, not sounding convinced.
“What?”
“Nothing. I just noticed that you’ve been spending a lot of time in the bathroom lately. A lot more than usual. But you’re always showering in the hall bathroom for some reason. Is there anything you want to tell me?”
“No.” Peter gulped and avoided eye contact. May raised an eyebrow and Peter caved.
“Fine. You caught me again. I’m re-grouting the tile in my shower and I can’t use it until the cement dries.” He lied as his eyes darted to the side.
“Re-grouting your shower?” She asked, not sounding amused.
“Oh, yes. All the kids are doing it these days. My current grout simply will not do.
“Uh huh. Well, I wouldn’t want to stop you.” May said and waved him on. Peter let out a sigh of relief and went to his bathroom.
“Can’t wait to see it when’s it’s done!” May called after him.
When Peter got to his bathroom, you were in his bathtub eating from a box of Goldfish.
“Is this what real fish tastes like? Because I finally understand fishing.” You said as Peter locked the door behind him.
“No, honey. That’s not what real fish tastes like. Not even a little.” Peter said and nervously paced the bathroom floor.
“Are you okay? You’re whiter than stripes on a clownfish.” You asked when you noticed Peters face.
“No. I’m not okay. I think May is getting suspicious.” Peter admitted.
“Why do you think that?”
“Because she just interrogated me about my bathroom habits and she hasn’t done that since we discovered I was lactose intolerant in the fifth grade.” Peter shouted in frustration.
“I’m sorry. I promise I was quiet. But I’ll do better. It won’t happen again.” You said and shrunk into yourself. Peter stopped pacing and knelt down beside you.
“Hey, hey, hey. It’s not your fault. I’m not mad at you. I’m mad at the situation.” Peter assured you as cupped your face.
“But your voice got loud.” You said quietly.
“I know. I’m sorry. I won’t raise my voice around you again.” Peter promised you. You nodded your head and reluctantly believed him.
“Did your dad yell at you a lot?” Peter asked quietly. You looked wistfully at your tail and thought about all the resentment it represented for you. It looked just like your fathers, so you were reminded of him every time you looked down.
“I think our only conversations were him yelling while I stayed silent and pretended I was anywhere else.”
“He’s never gonna find you. You did exactly what he always told you you’d never be able to do. He’s gonna he miserable at the bottom of the ocean forever while you get to run this city.”
“What if the spell doesn’t work? You can’t keep me in this bathtub forever. What if I have to go back?” You whispered in fear. Peter didn’t know you’d been worrying about that and stroked your cheek with his thumb to comfort you.
“That’s not gonna happen. The spell is going to work. And if it doesn’t, I’ll build a huge swimming pool right here in my apartment.”
“Peter.” You laughed skeptically.
“I’m serious. I’ll flood the place. I’ll flood the whole building.” Peter insisted, making you laugh. He laughed as well and when your laughter died down, he leaned in for a long kiss. When he pulled away, he looked longing into your eyes.
“I’d do anything for you.” He promised you. Your expression changed and Peter saw something different in your eyes.
“Peter?” You said in a soft voice. His heart started to pound and he had a sneaking suspicion that you were about to tell him you loved him.
“Yes?”
“I ate your soap.”
“I feel the same way.” Peter sighed happily. “Wait, what?”
“I didn’t realize it wasn’t food at first. I thought it was candy.” You admitted as you handed him a bar of soap that was almost entirely eaten.
“You got this far into it before you realized it wasn’t food?” Peter asked in disbelief as he took the remaining chunk of soap from you.
“It tasted like blue.” You said simply.
“Your stomach is gonna be hurting you tonight.” Peter warned you. “Wait a second, how do mermaids go to the bathroom?”
“I’m in the bathroom right now, aren’t I? I got here because you carried me.”
“No like, how do you use the bathroom?”
“How would I use a bathroom? Use it for what?” You asked in confusion.
“Let me rephrase. Can you pee? Oh my God, do you pee out of your bellybutton?” Peter gasped and poked your bellybutton.
“No.” You laughed and moved his hand. “I have a cloaca, silly. Haven’t you ever wondered how mermaids reproduce?”
“Yes, but I was never gonna ask because it felt inappropriate.” Peter admitted.
“I’m your girlfriend. Nothings too inappropriate to ask. I’m curious about humans the same way you’re curious about mermaids. Besides, I like that you’re inquisitive. It makes me feel better about asking you everything.”
“You know the word “inquisitive” but I had to remind you the word for street?” Peter mumbled out of the corner of your mouth.
“Why are you still hung up on that?”
“Is just doesn’t make sense sometimes. You know so many words and then will ask me what the hand at the bottom of my leg with the tiny fingers is called.” Peter pointed out.
“Feet. I remember that one.” You said proudly.
“Okay, what’s this?” Peter tested you and held up a toothbrush.
“Doohickey.” You answered like it was obvious.
“Toothbrush.” He corrected.
“Why would you brush your teeth?” You scoffed. “They don’t even have hair.”
“I’ll drop it. I’m sorry.” He held up his hands in defense.
“Oh my gosh. Was that our first fight?” You smiled in excitement.
“No, honey. That wasn’t a fight.” Peter chuckled.
“Oh.” You frowned.
“You seem disappointed.”
“I just want to be like the humans. And I notice that they fight a lot. Especially at the beach. Like when the men forget the towels in the street boat.”
“That’s called a car. And yeah, humans do fight a lot, don’t they?” Peter chuckled. “But we won’t be like that. We won’t fight.”
“Oh. Okay.” You replied, seemingly slightly disappointed that you wouldn’t be like the humans.
“But if we ever did, I promise I want make my voice loud, okay? No more of that.” Peter assured you.
“Thank you.” You smiled gratefully.
“You’re welcome. Now, let’s get you some real food.”
“No thanks. I’m pretty full from the soap.” You said and handed him a second half eaten bar of soap.
“Oh God.” Peter groaned.
The next day at school, Peter could not stop looking at the clock. He had tuned out his professor before the class even started because all her could think about was the mermaid in his bathroom.
“What’s the matter? Your leg has been bouncing all day.” Ned leaned over and whispered.
“I’m fine. I just really need to get home.” Peter said as his eyes flicked to the clock again. The seconds seemed to be moving more like hours and he could hardly take it anymore.
“Why?” Ned wondered.
“I’ll explain it to you soon. It’s just a little hard to put into words right now.” Peter whispered back. He normally told Ned everything, but trying to explain the mermaid in his bathtub felt like a daunting task at the moment. Ned would definitely have a million questions and Peter didn’t have any answers quite yet. Finally, the professor ended class and Peter bolted home. He swung as fast as he could and crawled in through his bedroom window before opening his bathroom door.
“Honey, I’m home-“
“Hello.” May cut him off, making him freeze. All the color drained from Peters face as he surveyed the situation. May was standing with her arms crossed while you sat in the bathtub behind her with a pajama shirt of Mays on.
“Peter, what the fuck?” May said through eerily calm smile. “This doesn’t look like tile re-grouting to me.”
“Oh, hi May. How are you this fine Tuesday?” Peter smiled innocently as he began to sweat.
“Dear nephew, please enlighten me here as I seem to be a little confused. Am I tripping balls or is there a mermaid in your bathtub?”
“You’re tripping balls.” Peter said immediately.
“This looks delicious, thank you.” You said to no one in particular before opening a bottle of Peters body wash and squirting it into your mouth. May and Peter watched you in stunned silence as you swallowed what was on your mouth.
“Mmm. That’s nice. What is it?” You asked and wiped the blue body wash off your mouth.
“Peter.” May smiled calmly. “Care to explain?”
Meanwhile, you had squirt some shampoo into your hand and were licking it off. Peter watched you and sighed before turning to May.
“I don’t know what to tell you, May. You’re clearing tripping balls. And during the work day no less.”
“Please don’t mistake my measured bank tone for calmness as I am filled with waters of rage.” May began.
“Oh God.” Peter gulped.
“Why is there a mermaid eating body wash in your bathroom?” She finally raised her voice, making you flinch. Peter quickly escorted May out of the bathroom and shut the door behind him.
“Please don’t yell! She gets really scared by yelling.” Peter informed her.
“Oh, the mermaid in your bathtub gets scared by yelling? Silly me. How could I not have known about the fears and phobias of the fucking mermaid living in your fucking bathtub!” May whispered harshly.
“Language.” Peter gasped.
“Why is there a mermaid in your tub?” May asked again and angrily pointed to the door. As mad as she was, she didn’t yell out of respect for you.
“Because I love her and promised I’d get her some legs.” Peter blurted, making May let out a long groan.
“If your Uncle Ben was here to see this, I swear.” She mumbled to herself.
“I’m sorry for lying, May. But I didn’t know what to do. She needed to get out of the ocean fast and this was the best I could come up with.”
“She can’t stay here.”
“What? May.” Peter whined.
“Peter, I am your legal guardian. Do you know what would happen if CPS decided to do a spontaneous home visit and found a mermaid living in our bathroom? That’s got to be all kinds of illegal.”
“Then where is she supposed to stay?”
“Here’s an idea. How about at your billionaire friends tower where all the other mystical creatures you know live?”
“But I don’t live there. I wouldn’t be able to see her everyday. And they already judge me so much for that time I wore turquoise shorts. I can’t tell them about this.”
“Peter, what makes you think you can keep a mermaid alive? You have her in a tiny bathtub with nothing but two starfish covering her up and nothing but soap to eat.”
“She likes soap.” Peter defended.
“Peter, she’s gotta go. She doesn’t belong in a cramped tub. She needs to be free.” May said with sympathy.
“Well it’s not like I can flush her down the toilet, May.” Peter whined.
“Nobody suggested that. At all.”
“Then what am I supposed to do with her?”
“Take her to Tony.” May suggested. “He’ll know what to do.”
“How would I possibly get her there? We barely made it here in one piece.”
“I think I have an idea.” May told him.
Once the sun had set and they had the protection of the nights darkness, Peter and May snuck you out of the apartment in their biggest cooler and got you in the back of Mays work van.
“This is so cool! What is it called again?” You asked as you played with the handles of the cooler.
“A cooler.” Peter told you.
“Wow. I always seen humans bring these to the beach but they never take them in the water for some reason.”
“It’s usually meant to hold drinks. And my nephews mermaid girlfriend apparently.” May smiled tightly.
“Thanks. This was a great idea May.” Peter said once May started driving towards the Avengers tower.
“Yeah, yeah. Don’t get any ideas and start bringing home other mystical creatures. If I ever walk into our apartment and find a warlock, I’m kicking you out.”
“Would you let the warlock stay once I wad kicked out?” Peter genuinely wondered.
“If he paid rent.” May shrugged.
“What’s rent?” You asked from the back of the van.
“This isn’t one of those born sexy yesterday situations, is it?” May asked as she skeptically eyed Peter.
“Born sexy yesterday? You mean the film trope where female characters are simultaneously highly sexualized and highly infantilized so we as an audience are supposed to be attracted to their raw sex appeal as well as be charmed by their child like mind because they need the male antagonist to explain everything to them? Since they were both born sexy and born yesterday?” Peter asked.
“Yes, that’s exactly what I mean.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Peter mumbled.
“Peter.” May said warningly.
“This isn’t like that, May. I swear. Y/n is really intelligent. She’s taught herself so much about the above world just from collecting things over the years. And she loves to learn. That was one of her biggest reasons for wanting to come up here. She just doesn’t know the name for a lot of things because she never had someone to teach her. So I’m filling in those gaps for her.”
“Oh. I see. You’re gonna be her teacher? You’re the one who saved her from her horrible life and taught her what it was really like to live?” May asked with a big smile.
“Yeah. I guess so.” Peter smiled at the sound of that. Mays smile dropped and he realized she was being sarcastic.
“You’re not her savior, Peter. Don’t forget that, okay? She is in a position where she has to rely on your for a lot of things. And she’s already feeling indebted to you for getting her out of the water. So I’m going to warn you right now. Do not abuse the power you have over her. It will not end in your favor.”
“I would never abuse my power. I would never do that to her.” Peter said quietly as he thought about what May said.
“I’m just saying. Don’t tell yourself you rescued her. You said so yourself. She is very smart. You didn’t teach her everything she knows. She taught herself and you filled in the gaps. You didn’t save her and give her a new life. She escaped from her old one with your help. Don’t let it go to your head that she was miserable until you came along and magically fixed her whole life. She will still face struggles on land. Lots of them. And sometimes, you won’t be able to help her. For both of your sakes, do not give yourself the title of her savior. You need to be equals. That’s the only way this relationship will work.”
Peter was quiet for the rest of the way to the tower. He didn’t want to admit this to May, but he had been thinking pretty highly of himself for rescuing you. He wanted to tell his friends all about how he heroically saved you from your dad and hide you in his bathtub because he knew it would make him sound cool. Peter looked at you in the rearview mirror and saw that you were craning your neck as high as you possibly could to see out the window. It was hard to see from your place in the cooler and Peter felt guilty for not putting you closer to the window. He shrunk down in his seat and briefly wondered if his reasons for bringing you to the shore were as selfless as he once thought.
It wasn’t long before May parked outside the Avengers tower and helped Peter carry you out of the trunk. Peter leaned down towards the facial recognition device at the front door and let it scan his whole face. You were silent as you watched him, your mind not even being able to comprehend what you were seeing.
“Tiniest avenger. Welcome.” FRIDAY confirmed as the door opened. The water in the cooler sloshed out of the sides as Peter stepped inside the tower. He brought you on the elevator and laughed to himself when you got startled by the moving floor. Once he got to the main room of the tower, he saw most of his team sitting around, silently reading or doing puzzles.
“Hey everyone.” Peter said casually. Everyone turned to look at him and froze when they saw you in the cooler in Peters arms. Your tail was flopping up and down over the edge of the cooler while you looked around in amazement. You could see the whole city out of Tony’s floor to ceilings windows. It was a sight you always dreamed of but never imagined you’d actually get to see.
“Uh, Peter, I didn’t think I had to specify this, but you’re not allowed to bring random mermaids into the tower.” Tony said flatly.
“She’s not random. This is my girlfriend, Y/n.” Peter said and proudly held you up. Everyone let out a collective sigh. Some hung their heads in disappointment while others narrowed their eyes at Peter in utter confusion.
“Of course you have a mermaid girlfriend.” Tony sighed. “Of fucking course you do. Why would I ever expect other wise? This is so unbelievably in character for you.”
“Hi Peters dad.” You smiled kindly and waved.
“Oh my God.” Tony sat down and rubbed his eyes.
“Mr. Stark, I know you have a rule against strays, but her dad is the mermaid king-“
“Of course he is.” Tony nodded.
“-and he forbid her from going to the surface-“
“Checks out.” Tony cut in.
“-and he found out about our secret interspecies relationship. He was gonna send her away.”
“So you want her to stay here?” Tony raised his eyebrows.
“Please? Just until she gets her legs. I can’t live without her.”
“Peter, where are we supposed to put her?”
“I have a sensory deprivation tank I’m not using.” Bruce said and raised his hand.
“Of course you do. Why wouldn’t you?” Tony said sarcastically.
“Is there water in it?” Peter asked.
“I can have it filled in less than two hours.”
“Where am I supposed to put her until then?” Peter wondered.
Peters question was answered by Tony showing you to his master bathroom. The bathroom was bigger than Peters entire apartment, so he felt a little better about keeping you there.
“You have a lovely bathroom, Mr. Peter’s dad.” You smiled as you swam around in Tony’s giant indoor jacuzzi.
“Tony is fine. And thank you. Pepper said it was tacky.” He scoffed as he showed you all the different colors the jacuzzi could light up.
“Oh no. I love the beach theme. I feel right at home.” You told him.
“Where is home, by the way?” Strange wondered as he came into the bathroom to officially meet you.
“The upper East side of the Atlantic Ocean.” You said simply.
“Oh. Sounds lovely.” Tony said sarcastically.
“I’m Dr. Strange, by the way. I’ll be the one giving you legs.” Strange said as he reached out to shake your hand. You looked at his hand in confusion, unsure of what he wanted you to do with it. He quickly realized his mistake and withdrew his hand.
“I apologize. I didn’t realize shaking hands was not customary under the sea.” He said to you. Peter stifled a laugh as it was the first time he had seen Dr. Strange being vulnerable.
“That’s all right. I really appreciate what you’re doing for me, Mr. Doctor Strange. You have no idea how long I’ve wanted this.”
“I might have some idea. Your boyfriend was pretty convincing.” Strange said and nodded towards Peter. You looked at Peter and watched him smile shyly, so you blew him a kiss the way he had once done to you. Pepper then walked into the bathroom with a couple of bathing suit tops.
“Here. I brought you some swim suit tops that might feel a little more comfortable than….those.” Pepper said as she made eye contact with your starfish bra.
“Oh, thank you. Everyone here is so nice.” You smiled happily and accepted the tops. Peter saw you reaching for your starfish and quickly jumped between you and Tony.
“Mr. Stark, turn around right now.”
“Why?” Tony asked as Peter physically turned him around. Peter turned around as well just as Pepper let out a surprised gasp. She walked back over to Peter, Tony and Strange with a confused look on her face.
“Hey, so, your girlfriend just whipped her tits out like it was no big deal.” Pepper whispered to the two of them.
“She does that.” Peter nodded. “I think it’s a mermaid thing.”
“Great. Remind me to not be in the room when she gets her legs for the first time.” Tony smiled sarcastically.
“So this is really happening? Am I really getting legs?” You asked from behind them. Peter turned to look at you and saw you were wearing a black bikini top that Pepper had given you. From his angle, you looked fully human. He smiled a little to himself and grew excited for the day you really would be.
“If all goes according to plan, yes. I’ll be conducting a spell that transforms your tail into a pair of legs.” Dr. Strange answered you.
“And it’ll be permanent?” You asked hopefully.
“If you want it to be. I could also make it where you turn back into a mermaid when you’re submerged in water.” Strange told you.
“Maybe we should do that. In case you change your mind.” Peter said to you.
“I won’t.” You said confidently.
“You might. You might miss your dad.”
“I’d miss the land more.”
“Isn’t this your first time on land?” Tony pointed out.
“Yes. But I’ve dreamed of it my whole life. I don’t miss the sea. And I never will. I want the spell to be permanent.” You said definitively.
“Give it some thought. We can do the spell another day.” Strange suggested once he sensed the disagreement between you and Peter.
“I don’t need a day.” You insisted. “I know what I want. I never want to see my tail again.”
“We’ll do it tomorrow.” Peter told Strange, making you frown. You looked and Peter and wanted him to look at you, but he was still looking at Strange.
“Fine. Tomorrow.” Strange nodded and left the room. Tony and Pepper patted your shoulder before leaving as well. Once it was just you and Peter, you spoke up.
“Peter?”
“Yeah?” He asked and sat down on the edge of the jacuzzi.
“I don’t like it when you speak for me.” You said in a matter of fact tone. You weren’t angry, just trying to let him know how you felt. Peter was caught off guard by your statement and jutted his head back.
“Oh, I’m sorry honey. I didn’t realize I was speaking for you. I just really think you should keep the option of keeping your tail. Just in case you change your mind.”
“You don’t know what it was like down there, Peter. None of my decisions were mine. I lived in constant fear of being found by the bad men. So I spent my whole life wishing to be somewhere else. I’m free now. I can’t go back. I’m not going to change my mind.”
“What about your dad?”
“He has 7 other daughters. He won’t miss me.”
“I’d miss you. I imagine anyone who lost you from their life would miss you. There’s a space that you fill. I can’t be the only one who feels that way about you. What about your sisters?”
“They never understood me. They never understood what it was like to want the things I wanted. My sisters are happy in the water. They’re happy because they belong. And they always knew I didn’t belong. I will miss them, but I know that they’d be happy knowing I am happy.”
Peter nodded in understanding and leaned in to kiss you. After the chaotic day, you were happy to have this quiet moment with him. You didn’t want your relationship to get lost in the excitement of getting your legs. When Peter pulled away, he rested his forehead against yours and looked into your eyes.
“I swear, I’m gonna show you what it’s like to have someone actually love you. No more possession and having someone make all your decisions for you. No more feeling like you don’t belong. You’re going to be happy here.”
“We’re going to be happy here.” You corrected him with a smile. Peter kissed you one last time before letting you get some rest. He caught up to Dr. Strange in the hallway and stopped him.
“Hey, when we do the spell tomorrow, don’t do the one that will make her permanently a human, okay? Do the other one.”
“But she doesn’t want to ever have tail again. She seemed very adamant about that.” Strange titled his head in confusion.
“She thinks that’s what she wants. But I know she’ll regret it.”
“Peter, I’m not gonna do something without her knowing about it. I’m going to perform the spell that she wants, not you.”
“What about this? What if she only gets her tail back when she touches saltwater? She can still shower and go in the pool, but if she goes to the beach, she’ll return to a mermaid. That way, if she ever wants to go home, she can. We’ll call it the saltwater clause.”
“Did you clear that with her?” Strange asked, already knowing the answer.
“I will.” Peter nodded. Strange seemed content with that and walked away.
Peter looked back at the bathroom door and could hear you swimming around in there. He then thought back to what May said about him not being your savior. If you ended up hating your life on land because it didn’t live up to the fantasy you’d created in your head, he didn’t want you to be stuck there. Even though Peter knew you hated your old life, he wanted to preserve the option of returning to it. Peter made the decision to not tell you about the saltwater clause but make Strange think he did. He figured you’d never want to go to the ocean after spending your whole life trying to leave it, so he’d be safe from you ever finding out. May wanted to accuse him of acting like your savior, so he was going to selflessly preserve your choice to go home. Even if that meant one day, you’d leave him.

realized how much I missed Monster Falls and wanted to do that with Gorillaz, explanations for my choices below
ok I'm gonna be real with you I just kinda did whatever I wanted and what I mean by that is I actively chose not to do what would make sense and instead just did what I thought would be fun or pretty- like for example it would've made SENSE to make Murdoc a demon or vampire because of his whole thing and motifs but I just thought it would be more fun to have Merdoc....... and it would've made sense to have 2-D be a zombie and Russel be a ghost but I didn't do that. the only one that had actual thought put into it was Noodle who is a demon hunter so I was like hehe what if she was a demon. for 2-D it was omg I like cervitaurs. and that's about as much thought as was put in 💀 it was very fun to do. I definitely could've put more thought in but I simply did not want to
anyway here's what they are
2-D: cervitaur
Murdoc: mermaid
Noodle: demon
Russel: fae
Ace: gargoyle

You're a shrimp mermaid. You're quite the coward, but you still have a small "business" where you offer to clean the mouths of other merfolk. Recently, two morays have taken interest in you. But strangely enough... you don't feel that scared of them.
Includes: soft/safe vore, semi-willing prey
★✦Symbiotic Relationship✦★
☆゚.*・。゚☆゚.*・。゚☆゚.*・。゚☆゚.*・。゚☆゚.*・。゚
The pair's sharp, serrated teeth were covered in blood. It was probably the blood of people like you.
That could be you.
Just a bloodstain on some carnivore's teeth.
That thought has always terrified you.
"Can you help us with the blood, please? You'll be paid well."
"No problem, Jade!" You happily said. "I'll get you both cleaned up quick as I can!"
"Ehehe! You're the best, Shrimpy!" Floyd smiled.
"You truly are, (Y/N)." Jade added.
These strange twins have been frequenting your business recently. You're not sure why, but they've taken a certain interest in you. They're morays, and... very terrifying. They paid you very well the first time you met, so you put aside your fear and helped then with the blood staining their mouths. Ever since that day, they've come back every time they need your help.
"So, Shrimpy-"
"No talking while I'm in your mouth."
"But-!"
"Zip it."
You used a small scrap of cloth that had fallen from the surface when cleaning. You wipe off the blood, and use your spindly little limbs and feelers to make sure you'd done a good job. You aren't sure if you do a good job, but these two keep coming back, so you have to be doing something write!
"There you go!"
"(Y/N), may I ask you something?" Jade asked as you crawled out of his brother's mouth.
"Sure, go ahead."
"If I recall correctly, you claimed to be quite cowardly, and you were scared of us when we first met, yes?" Jade tilted his head. "So why are you no longer scared of us?"
"Huh? I don't know, actually." You responded. "If I had to guess... it's probably because I've gotten to know the two of you... and I know that you would never hurt me!"
"...I'm flattered, but that is an idiotic thing to say given that we don't really know each other." Jade smiled.
"Well, I have my reasons for thinking that..."
Jade stuffed you into his mouth. A bit more forceful than you'd expected, but whatever.
"I know you would never hurt me because, well, you gain something by keeping me around. So you have no reason to hurt me." You explained. "We have a symbiotic relationship, in a way."
And then you were swallowed.
You were a bit surprised, honestly. You didn't at all expect this to happen.
But it doesn't matter, because you know you'll be safe. Like you said, these two won't just get rid of something that benefits them.
And you know you were right when you heard the pair start arguing.
"Great job Jade, now Shrimpy's gonna be scared of us!!"
"Oh dear, I didn't mean to do that..."
"That's bs and you know it! You absolutely did that on purpose!"
"They tasted too good, Floyd, I simply couldn't resist."
"Well I guess you've got a point... but you didn't have to eat them!"
It's a bit cozy in here.
"Heeeeeey, Shriiiiiimpy??? You ok in there???" Floyd asked you.
"Stop poking me, Floyd." Jade demanded.
"I'm good!" You responded. "Why did Jade do this? Did he... want me to clean in here...?"
"Huh? You mean you're not scared out of your mind right now?" Floyd asked, clearly very confused. "You... you do know that Jade just ate you, right...?"
"I know. But I know I'm not in any danger! After all, I provide you a service, and if I died, then you wouldn't have that service anymore!" You explained. "So can you, uh, let me out now, Jade? I... don't really like it in here..."
"Hmm... who knows? You tasted amazing, and not to mention I feel so nice and full with you in there~" Jade licked his lips. "You poor little shrimp... such a pity you were so delicious-"
"What, do you want them to be scared of us?!" Floyd yelled.
"Fine I'll get them out." Jade sighed. "I would've thought that you of all people would enjoy teasing (Y/N)."
"Yeah, but like... they're right. If they get too scared of us they'll probably stop helping us."
"Hm. I suppose you're right."
It feels kinda awkward to just listen to these two argue...
But hey.
At least you'll be safe.

Okay but like now we need Aquarius’ POV of Lucy’s night terrors after her key was broken???
(and maybe with the bonus of the first night terrors after Lucy gets her key back because holy shit you did not have to go that hard I am so hurt I need some fluff to put me back together—)
I literally love angst so much. I can't help but bring the pain lmao, but lemme try and make it up to you... well at the end. First lemme hurt you some more ;)
Aquarius was still watching after her girl the whole time
She was so sure that Lucy would have a huge support system that she wasn't worried, just curious
When she watched Natsu fail to console Lucy, Aquarius starts to get nervous
But she's trying to calm herself by saying she wasn't good at helping Lucy the first time either and that he'll get better with time
Then Natsu leaves and Aquarius is pissed
She directs all her feelings at planning how she's gonna murder Natsu for hurting Lucy
Then Fairy Tail disbands and Aquarius gets even more mad. Literally all the spirits are terrified to go near her (including the king who tries to hide from her)
Loke begs her for advice and how to help Lucy cause they can all feel her pain and no one knows how to help
So after yelling at him about his guild sucking, Aquarius teaches him everything she knows
Aquarius softens as she describes how she cared for Lucy back in the day. Loke swears he sees tears in her eyes but she leaves as soon as he catches a glance
That's when Aquarius finally breaks down. She finds Scorpio and sobs into his arms
She lets out everything she'd been bottling up. How she can't help Lucy, how she failed her, how much she missed her, how worried she was, etc. It goes on for hours
Every time Lucy has a terror after that, Aquarius cries as she watches. She hides it well and watches as the spirits take turns trying to help
When they come back, Aquarius usually yells at them about something they did wrong, but they all know she's just worried and missing her girl
Bonus
Lucy's forgets she has Aquarius back when she has her first night terror
So when Aquarius shows up and does her normal routine of taking care of her, Lucy loses it
She clings to Aquarius crying about how she missed her (even tho she'd told her a million times already) and how much she needed Aquarius
Aquarius just simply pats her head and tells Lucy that she will never leave her side again
They fall asleep cuddling that night
Also Aquarius does scream at Natsu for leaving Lucy. She has to drag Aquarius away while the mermaid is cussing Natsu out

that mermaid childe thing you reblogged totally put me onto sea monster dazai (imagine that dazai anon thinks about dazai call the news)... like imagine those giant empty eyes staring at you intently from underneath the still water. actually terrifying. hed probably be something fucked up looking too like a snake thing or an angler fish or something like that.... could also see him as a siren.... like ur too stubborn and well versed on the sea and its inhabitants to fall for his Beautiful Mermaid facade and hes initially got this horrible vendetta against you about it but eventually his obsession with getting you in the water with him Less so he can rip you apart and finally prove hes smarter than you and more so he can shove his weird fish tongue down ur throat i mean swim with you in a very well behaved fashion
ALSO adding an akutagawa thing cuz no one ever talks about my husband as often as they should. yan sea monster/mermaid akutagawa. he gets washed up on the beach, greviously injured, and despite the fact he keeps BITING AND SCRATCHING AND BEING SO MEAN 2 YOU you do your best to nurse him back to health in ur old pool u never use anymore (well, as healthy as aku Gets) until hes set to go back to the ocean. akutagawa has always known that humans are awful creatures who need to be killed before they kill him or his ilk, but maybe you're not so bad? first time for everything, he supposes. dont be shocked if you see some familiar scales glittering under the beach sun. or if people you know start washing up on the beach with a few less limbs than you remember them having. I was gonna immediately say aku is a shark but maybe octopus or squid would work cuz of how rashomon looks..... much to think about
- 🩹
you're so funny i can't breathe omg i too would like to swim with him in a well behaved fashion
cw: yandere characters, vague descriptions of sea creatures(?), mentions of cannibalism (well sea creature eats humans), obsessive behavior, non-con kissing, mentions of kidnapping and imprisonment, possessive behavior, jealousy, mentions of biting, scratching and self-inflicted wounds
siren dazai? no way sea monster dazai is the way to go! nothing about that guy looks safe but you know, he has a way with his words that you just can't help but think he's misunderstood and lonely. everyone thinks he's up to no good, but that's not the case at all! it's so unfortunate, you think, that dazai's being judged by the way he looks because he's really such a wonderful friend! what a shame that even the other sea creatures avoid him and his territory, of course it couldn't be because something was wrong with him. they were just being rude and outcasting him for something he couldn't control. you've spent enough time with him to know he was funny (in an odd way...it works on him, but if anyone else were to say his 'jokes' about eating you up and dragging you down to his cave and chaining you there, it would have terrified you. oh well, dazai's just never learned what jokes are supposed to be, so he just says the things people say about him. poor dazai, really) and he was really sweet, eager to help you with your troubles and offering his waters as a place for you to come to when you need to be alone and clear your head. not because he wants to be the only person you confide in and trust, definitely not!
and honestly, dazai was just bored. and what better way to spend the time than to trick some poor, unsuspecting human before making them his lunch? yum. sure, chuuya and a few select others were the only other mers that visited him, but that didn't mean he was lonely. he simply didn't care. of course, playing it up to you about how unfriendly everyone else was surely won over your sympathy, and it felt...sort of nice when you rubbed his cheek and looked at him with your sad eyes and told him you'd always be there for him. oh well, little human. he hopes you know he was going to hold you to that :)
his initial plan was just to earn your trust for a couple of days (because he knew how stupid and trusting humans were. terribly useless species, really. how did they survive for this long?) and then, under the pretense of an injury he couldn't reach, would coax you into getting into the water, where he could happily prepare you for a meal. but he began stalling, not wanting to eat you just yet. maybe you could entertain him a little while longer. playing with his food or whatever humans said. the more you talked to him and he learned about human relationships, the more curious he got. what did you mean, humans licked each other's mouths? how disgusting, he definitely wasn't interested in trying. what was so special about hand holding and cuddling and whatever the hell kissing was???? and why did he want to do it to you??? one day, he can't hold back his curiosity and drags you into the water off your boat, ignoring your screaming just to try and see if he "can shove his weird fish tongue down ur throat". and maybe more. obviously the talk about consent flew over his head, because what do you mean, you didn't want to do this with him? didn't you kiss people you like? and if you were coming to visit dazai this often, you definitely liked him right?
regardless, it wasn't anything he couldn't change with a little bit of time :)
akutagawa hm i think as much as i would love for him to be a sparkly shiny mermaid i think that role is more suited for chuuya aka the prettiest person EVER sorry anyway akutagawa octopus ver kinda reminds me of the kraken but shark akutagawa is also a wonderful picture i will figure that out eventually don't worry
so just another day of strolling on the beach admiring the sparkling water and woah what's that? a wild akutagawa has appeared! you find him beached and bleeding and you must obviously help him out! how could you leave him out there, alone and vulnerable? it's a little difficult to bring him to your conveniently close to the beach house, especially since he keeps growling and biting at your arms, but you finally make it and help him into the pool where he finally calms down enough for you to dress his wounds and give him something to eat.
and as much as he hates to admit it, he kind of likes it here with you. you're unexpectedly nice and not annoying or overbearing and your food tastes pretty good. sometimes, he's still waiting on you to ship him over to some evil merfolk killing people or a zoo or something terrible, or maybe you want to kill him yourself for his parts. but you don't do any of that. like you promised him, you bring him back to the ocean and wave him off.
except now, he really doesn't want to leave.
a week or so later, when you're back strolling by the shore, a familiar lump of something is waiting for you, wounded and stranded. you don't notice the way his eyes light up when he sees you, but you definitely notice that he wasn't biting you this time. sure, he has an iron-tight grip on you with his appendages, but maybe he was just scared? and the cycle continues. sometimes, you find fresh fish and seashells on the spot where you found him first, but most of the time, you find him, injured and waiting for your help. you don't suspect him of purposely hurting himself in order to see you and feel you nursing him back to health, but it does start to get a little suspicious. maybe he just got bullied a lot.
oddly enough, he's never friendly when you bring someone else with you. if by chance he's on the shore and you are with another person, akutagawa becomes hostile, growling and scratching at your companion until they run away and it's just him and you again. the way it should be :)

Monster March 2024- Day 18- Merperson
Tumblr media
I know, I know, I thought I was gonna do more micro-mermaids too. But then Selkies and Polarbear Onikuma? Couldn't resist.
As always, thanks to @borealwrites for their Monster March 2024 Prompt List.
Monster March 2024- Day 18- Merperson
Selkie and Onikuma
Meneah pulled her own sled into the polar market and shoved her hood back before she came over to the booth she had rented out here and began to put up her wares and unpack her sled before more still came, others came with fresh whale meat and blubber as she was eager to trade her carved shell jewelry for a good hunk of it, complete with skin that she would add to her boots as she took her ulu and shaved the skin off and set it aside before she used her ulu to cut up the hunks of fat into small pieces and added them to her other wise- nearly empty fat jar as she was relieved she had gotten enough to nearly fill it to the top and the fat oil already in it would help render the rest of the fat down into more oil.
She was happy to trade and barter and even give a small carved totem to the market owner to pay for her booth rent along with a stack dried seaweed sheets for soup.
“Here Grandma Naon.” She offered the elderly woman.
“Oh, thank you. I’ve been out of seaweed for a while.” She offered as she was quick to add a few sheets to her pot of soup she was making and put the rest into her special box she kept for seaweed as she was content to continue to sit and stir her pot of water with seaweed and other ingredients.
“My grandson Firen will be going through the trials this year.” She offered.
“Oh? He finally grew out of his cub fur did he?” Meneah asked with a smile.
“It’s about damn time. His father is calling in a fair beauty from another clan for him, she’s supposed to be a blonde kodiak, but he claims he will need to forage for pearls on his trials in the spring to award such a fair beauty.” She answered.
“Well, if he looks for more pearls for his beauty, you send him my way eh?” Meneah offered.
“Oh, I’ll be sure to, once he comes. He’s supposed to come with whale meat for this soup.” She offered as Meneah smiled.
“I’m sure he will Grandma Naon.” Meneah offered before she kissed Grandma Naon on the forehead have her a hug before she left and went back to her booth and sat down and simply waited for others to come into the market that day. It was pretty empty. But Meneah simply took out a shallow bowl and put her little sacks of pearls into it but kept it in her lap while her jewelry hung on a knitted shawl behind her.
Then a commotion came when a huge group of onikuma came in with sleds and sleds of whale meat and whale fat into the market and took up the center of the market as the others came to quickly get the fresh meat and fat- paying higher prices for the fresher meat and fat. Meneah though was just content to watch and wait for the price to go down. Technically, she could wait until the end of the day to buy what she wanted- when the price wouldn’t be so high. She watched on as others came with bones and other- tougher hunks of meat- cut up and put into Grandma Naon’s pots for soup, and even added wood to her fires.
Then, it seemed everyone else came into the market with their goods and wares as Meneah was happy to get more black balm, more tea leaves, more berries, and honey and of course, more breadseed. As she was happy to sell her various pearls of various sizes and colors for it all.
Before she was approached by Naon’s grandson- Firin.
“Hello Firin.” Meneah greeted.
“Hello Meneah, do you have any yellow pearls?” He asked.
“I do.” Meneah smiled as she took her bag of yellow pearls and dumped it into her special bowl before she showed him what she had.
“This is all the yellow ones I have this time.” She offered as he took the bowl and rolled them around in it to see the overall color, shape and size of them.
“How much for all of them?” He asked.
“What can you offer?” She asked.
“I’d give you three handbreadths of meat and two handbreadths of fat and skin.” He offered.
“Deal.” She nodded before he dumped the pearls into his own purse and then left to cut up the whales, using his outstretched hand to measure for her, his outstretched hand much bigger than his own before he came over to drop it off to her.
“Thank you Firin. Grandma Noan told me the good news, congratulations.” Meneah offered.
“Well, it’s not for sure yet. There are many competing for the blonde. And I dare not assume until I hear it from her.” He sheepishly offered as his ears laid back before Meneah simply smiled and reached back and got a purple shell heart pendant and offered it to him.
“Here, it’ll contrast with the yellow pearls. I’m sure she’ll love it.” She offered.
“I…I owe you more meat…” He said as he looked at it but didn’t take it.
“No you don’t. You’re a really good man, who is kind, honest and honorable. She’d be lucky to have you. Take this for her. It’s my congratulations for you both. I’m sure she’ll love it. And you can even add those pearls to it, make it a proper necklace for her.” You offered.
“Could you do that? I’d be afraid I’d crush the pearls.” He offered.
“Sure. Would you sharpen my ulu?” She smiled before he emptied out his pearl purse into her bowl as it seemed he had gotten yellow pearls from everyone today as Meneah smiled and sat down with her pearl needle and got some thread out and began to pierce each pearl and then thread them to a pretty necklace as he took her ulu and resharpened it for her and even got her a bowl of his grandmother’s soup so she’d eat in between working on his necklace as she was happy and content so simply sit, and weave this necklace and add these pearls once she organized them by size and shape and began to sew them on the rest of the day inbetween buying and selling other pieces to the others in the market.
By the end of the day- once everyone had bought and sold what they did, and there was no more buying or selling or eating to be done- he came back to see if she needed any more help with it as she was piercing and threading and tying off the last few pearls.
“Hopefully I’ve made it big enough for her.” Meneah offered hopefully as she used the last of her threads to make this for him.
“I’m sure it will be just fine for her.” He offered happily, pleased that Meneah had worked so hard for it.
“There. What do you think?” Meneah asked as she tied the two ends off and added the last bits of thread to the ends so they would be tied around his betrothed’s neck.
“I hope she likes it as much as I do.” He offered before he traded jar for it.
“What is this?” She asked.
“Bone marrow.” He answered.
“You don’t have to give this for that. It’s a necklace, not a fur coat.” She tried to refuse the jar.
“But if this bone marrow will warm your heart the way your hard work has warmed mine- even though we have yet to even meet this woman, it will be fair.” He insisted before she took it- gratefully.
“Thank you. I hope you will be happy together. And don’t forget, when you go through your trails, if you see my pod’s lights, feel free to escape the trials for a day with me ok? You will always be welcome and find shelter with me and my other podmates ok?” Meneah offered.
“Thank you. I deeply appreciate it.” He offered with a nod.
“You’ll be fine. It’s supposed to be warm this year. Hopefully the trials won’t be too harsh for you.” She offered as she gathered her things back into her sled and then got ready to go before he helped her close up her booth and get everything together, the necklace clutched in his other hand as he saw her off as she left the market, putting her hood back up and walking towards where her pod had their ice igloos as she and her pod mates took up a caravan as they chatted about what they had gotten that day from the market and what they were looking forward to eating first once they returned home as they each used their ice sticks to traverse the path.
“You know. If that blonde ends up not choosing you. I’m sure your father wouldn’t be opposed if you took Meneah or anyone else from her pod.” Noan offered to her grandson as she came up and watched him watch Meneah walk away into the white expanse around them.
“Bears are supposed to eat seals, not marry them.” He repeated- what he had heard too many times from his father.
“Is that so?” She asked as she nodded to the blended families around them.
“She is too kind.” He offered.
“If it wasn’t, he wouldn’t be sending others so far for another onikuma wife for me and my brothers.” He tried to say.
“Eh, your father has many sons. But Meneah is the only girl you’ve ever worked up the courage to talk to, much less do business with. You are good to her and she is good to you and your family, and especially to me. She would be good for you, she would remind you of your claws and teeth. She respects our ways and does what she can to keep herself and her pod on the good side of our community. So many of those who used to call her pod theirs, have settled well here so far. I overheard that she offered you shelter for the trials.” Noan recalled.
“And yet, that is how so many come back from the trials with their selkie mates.” She grinned with a smug smirk.
“My father is sending me in the opposite direction for the trials, for that reason.” He admitted.
“Then I shall have a word with him.” She offered.
“No, grandma, don’t. He will only make things harder for me if you do. I am content to follow his direction.”
“Even if it means your regret and resentment?” She asked.
“It will honor him and our clan’s ways. He says we need to keep one eye on the past and the other on the future.” He insisted.
“Respect means nothing if you’re dead on the ice.” She reminded him.
“Then any affection for Pertalo will keep me warm.” He offered as he still held up the necklace Meneah had made for him before Noan just scuffed and rolled her eyes and shook her head before she called to her family to hurry up and finish off the last of this soup so she could clean her pots.
It took a week to finish getting ready but finally, Firin was ready to go into the trials, his own sled packed with what he needed to survive in the Arctic Tundra for a whole week.
He went in the opposite direction of where he knew Meneah kept her pod and just walked off into the white expanse. Hoping that at least his own blubber would keep him warm if he proved fruitless in his hunting. He had sent the necklace with his father as his token for Pertalo- should she meet with him while he was gone on this quest.
He walked until the sun set and the stars came out as he orientated himself with those and used the Northern Lights to build himself an igloo to save him from the bitter cold wind. He slipped himself into the igloo and practically collapsed onto the snow inside, grateful for the break in bitter cold wind that had practically cut him to the bone.
He continued on until he was all alone on the vast- sheer whiteness. Where the blue skies touched the white ground all around and there was nothing to guide him except his own inner compass as he tried to make sure he orientated himself with the stars. But there was just nothing out here. No game, no way to dig down to see if he was even over land or ice. Just…snow and sky.
And then, the clouds came in. And then he really, felt like he was lost, no way to tell where he was, or where he was going as he had to rely solely on his internal compass for direction.
He could do little but eat snow, but only able to eat so much- and risk getting too cold internally.
Then, he could faintly- smell- food.
He turned and followed his nose. It smelled not only of food, but cooked food! And bread! He smelled bread and cooked food! He felt like he practically ran towards the smell on the wind, even as it blew right into his face, he didn’t care. He was so hungry. He had gone many days since he ate last. And he hungered for more than just snow. He was hungry for meat. He didn’t care if he had to dig through several feet of ice if it meant he could eat meat.
Then, just as the sun set and it was dark, he saw a faint glow! It had to be another selkie pod. He had listened and obeyed his father and gone in the opposite direction but light meant shelter, shelter meant people and the only other beings out here on this bleak snowy landscape were other onikuma and selkies. Surely, a selkie would save him in this hour of need.
However, the light, once he came closer, seemed to vanish on the horizon and he was left to fall to his knees and weep. Even the sled behind him suddenly felt like it weighed twice his own weight. He had lost track of the days and all he could do was just collapse on the ice and snow.
“Meneah, I wish you were here. I wish I would have given you that necklace. Per…pert…fuck her name, I don’t care. I just…I just want you.” He cried because, after going hungry, Meneah was the only thing on his mind.
The snow began to fall and he couldn’t be bothered to even move, as he simply let the snow fall and build around him, letting his tears crust his eyes shut as he soon, cried himself to sleep.
Meanwhile Meneah came back to the market for another market day.
“I nearly missed the market in the snow.” Meneah offered to Noan as she came right to Noan’s booth and put fresh- cleaned mussels into the pot for the broth.
“You didn’t see any sign of Firin did you?” Noan asked worriedly.
“No. I haven’t seen any sign of him at all.” Meneah shook her head.
“Ardguall told him to go in the opposite direction of your pod for his trials. Ardguall doesn’t approve of Firin’s affections for you. Firin wanted to appease his father, but it’s been two weeks. He should have come back by now and if he’s gone for another week, I think Torten will have his head if Firin dies in this trial. I can only hope he’s ok.” Noan offered as she got Meneah a bowl of broth before Meneah practically gulped it down and quickly went over to where Torten was anxiously waiting by the door of the market, seeming to look out over the snow in the direction her husband had sent her son.
“Chefitess Torten.” Meneah greeted.
“Meneah, have you seen Firin?” She asked anxiously.
“No, I haven’t seen him since last market day.” Meneah shook her head no as Torten looked about ready to cry as she anxiously looked about ready to rip someone’s head off too as she looked back out over the horizon.
“Firin has been gone for three weeks. His tracks are long since covered over. I’m afraid that Ardguall sent him in the wrong direction and that he’s lost, or…” Her voice cut off.
“Please, could you find him? At least, make sure he’s ok? Send him home? He’s proven he can be on his own. But I just don’t want him dying, trying to prove himself to his father. Take anything you want from me, take whatever supplies you would need. I just..I can’t lose him like this.” Torten pleaded before Meneah practically gave Torten everything she brought with her to the market and traded it all for food stuffs and supplies for her sled and then quickly went back and filled up her waterskins with all the broth she could before she practically went running out of the market in Firin’s direction. She went as far as she could, as quickly as she could before she started sweating and then had to stop to rest, because sweat killed in the snow as she tried to calm her own racing heart and thoughts and simply prayed for guidance to lead her to Firin.
She put her nose to the wind and tried to smell for anything. But could only smell the market behind her. She continued on, drinking up all but one waterskin of broth as the other began to chill to a chunky slush. She even took a detour home and got her best supplies, her bone marrow, her jars of fat, all of her furs, her breadseed, her tea leaves, her club, her ulu, everything she could think of that she woud need for a great journey to save Firin. Even the magicked ever burning logs. She put out- and took out from her home and packed them with her. She continued inland, just hoping and praying to every god that would listen and answer her to keep Firin alive long enough for her to find him and save him.
She kept going until she was exhausted and had to stop to make shelter in a snowstorm, even though her gut told her that she needed to continue. But she couldn’t help Firin if she too was dead- caught in a blizzard as she made herself a new igloo and even used her special lights to light it up to give her light to make herself food and bread, and even made a hole in the roof so that the smells could leave her place and travel on the wind, and hopefully draw them together. She put out the light and tried to sleep but sleep was alluding her she couldn’t shake the feeling that if she didn’t at least go out and look, one last time, that maybe he was trying to head this way, and couldn’t see her. But was only following his nose to her.
She had to see.
So she got redressed and relit her light and came out of the igloo and looked and saw- another igloo! Just a short ways away! Hopefully that was him!
She ran towards him.
“Firin! Firin!” She yelled, but her voice was drowned out by the wind but she didn’t care she could see two large lumps! That had to be his shelter! She came forward and to her horror, she found that the one lump- was the snow that covered his sled.
“Oh no! No, no, no, no, no, no!” She began to cry as she hurriedly shoved all the snow off and followed the leads to a body in the second lump as she uncovered boots first.
“No! Firin! No!” She cried as she recognized his boots and continued to shove the snow off of him and noticed that the snow had started to melt and then freeze in a little pocket around his chest, so he at least had the room to breathe.
“Firin! Come on! Don’t be dead!” She cried as she damned her tears- breaking off her eyelashes as she continued to uncover him and cried more tears of relief when she saw his chest move with his breath as she continued to uncover him before she got to his face and took the ice off from over his eyes and away from his nose where he was breathing.
“Oh thank the gods. Firin! You’re still alive, come on Firin, wake up, wake up for me. Get up. You need to get up. You need to come with me! Come on!” She begged and pleaded and pushed and pulled before she cut the ties to his sled to free him as she used all of her renewed strength to try to wake him up before he finally awoke from her efforts.
“Maneah?” He breathed when he opened his eyes to see her by his side in the snow.
“Yes! Firin, oh thank the gods I found you! Come on, up, I built an igloo for us, it’s only over there, come on.” She urged him as she helped him up and then led him back to her igloo before she practically pushed him into it herself before she blew fire to partially melt the vent to keep the warm air in and from escaping and to harden the inside to help insulate them inside.
“Come on, you need to warm up, you’re too cold, come on, help me.” She urged as she was quick to try to get his frozen furs off of him as she tried to undo it and push and pull them off and could only cry to see how much weight he had lost, all of his fat reserves were gone, and all he was was skin, fur, bones and very lean muscle now.
“Shit, you’ve lost too much weight, come on, I have some broth, get in my bed, come on, get in my bed and I’ll have you drink some broth and I’ll warm you up ok?” She offered as she gave him- her own sealcoat to put on as she readily moved to her little pot in her igloo and poured him a bowl of broth and then helped him drink it as he collapsed on her bedroll.
“You came for me.” He could only- very tiredly- offer as he looked at her with a faint, exhausted smile.
“Of course I did.” She answered as she helped him to drink sips of the broth in her large abalone shell bowl as she let him drink one bowl at a time, in between getting under the covers and wrapping herself around his core as he could only manage to try to curl his own limbs around her body, as her sealskin covered them both in the bed as his body slowly began to warm before he started to shake as his body finally found it’s will to live.
“It’s gonna be ok. I’m right here, Firin.” Meneah offered as she hugged him and let him settle his head over hers in the blanket as she rubbed her hands vigorously over his back to try to get some heat from the friction of her hands against his fur.
“You came for me.” He repeated in a really shaky breath.
“Of course I came for you Firin. I love you. I’m sorry your father sent you in the wrong direction, so far away.” She confessed.
“I love you too.” He professed as his arms and body shook as he held her as tight as his limbs would let him.
“I’ve…I’ve always loved you, I’m sorry I let my father drive me away from you. I should have been stronger and braver and told him to…fuck himself.” He offered shakily.
“Well you are brave and strong. You’ve survived longer than anyone else would have. And honestly, if he sent you to your death, you can live with me ok? I don’t mind. My home is big enough for a whole family.” She offered as she turned her head and kissed his cheek as he found the strength to try and shakily kiss her back.
“Just focus on getting warmer. That’s all you need to focus on ok? You’re safe now, I’ve got you.” She whispered as she just focused on getting him back to a temperature that was more conducive to live, happy that she got to him in time.

The Lakes- Chapter Eleven
Tumblr media
Ruby looked up at the three men standing above her, shivering from the cold and trying to push the net off herself.
The tallest one crouched down in front of her, moving the net off her head, “it’s a mermaid..” one of the others said.
“Rafe what are we gonna do?” The same on asked, “simple Topper. Put her with the others” Rafe said and stood up.
Ruby found herself in a cell below deck, shivering and wrapping the blanket around herself, sniffing out the area- it reeked of death down here.
“did he capture you too?” A girl asked and Ruby turned, “yea.. yea he did..” Ruby murmured, shuffling closer to the bars.
“I’m Scarlett” The girl introduced herself, “Ruby..” Ruby said quietly, wrapping the blanket tighter around herself for warmth.
“were you separated from your mate?” Scarlett asked, “oh uh.. no.. I don’t have a mate..” Ruby said quietly, a twinge of sadness in her voice.
“all mermaids have a mate..” Scarlett said, “how’d you know I was mermaid?” Ruby asked, “easy, you have the scent of one” Scarlett said simply.
Ruby nodded and looked down, playing with JJ’s leather bracelet around her wrist, she hoped he was okay.
“he stole my skin..” Scarlett said and she looked over in surprise, “y-your skin..?” Ruby questioned in horror.
Scarlett nodded, “my pelt.. I’m a selkie..” she explained, “ selkies are real? I thought they were just a fairytale” Ruby asked in curiosity.
“ we exist. We just prefer not to be found” Scarlett said and Ruby nodded, leaning her head back against the wall.
She missed JJ, she hoped nothing bad had happened to him after she fell in- god the thought of Kiara hurting him made her stomach churn.
Ruby closed her eyes with a sigh, willing herself to fall asleep so she could regain her strength, focusing on the sound of the waves.
God she needed to get out of here.

Epilogue
I waved my hand when Maria and Laito-kun headed out. Yuuto was still helping Nalia to put on her shoes but soon, both of them straightened up.
"It was so nice that you could come by!" I beamed. "See you later again~"
"You should come to the shrine on New Year's Day." Yuuto smiled and patted Ruki's shoulder before ruffling my hair once again. "You know, traditions."
"We'll be there." Ruki nodded, holding me close. "Isn't that so, my angel?"
"Yes! Yes, of course. Maybe we can help you with cooking since it will be a busy day in the shrine."
Nalia nodded. "That would be nice." The Kitsune woman looked exhausted when she massaged the small of her back. "I haven't been able to do much recently."
"Then I will make the dinner, Yuriko and you will simply relax, and Yuuto will do his work in the shrine." Ruki simply decided that without asking anyone's opinion. I wanted to poke him between his ribs, but before I could do that, Yuuto grinned.
"Sounds like a plan. Gotta love that. Thanks, Ruki." He wrapped Nalia in a warm coat. "Time to go, Sleepin' Beauty. You look like you're gonna nod off right here and now. See you, Ruki, Sis." And with that, the couple walked out too.
I stretched my arms and peeked at Ruki. "Umh... should we join others in the living room."
"No, we should not." Ruki's answer caught me by surprise.
"No?"
"First, Kou said he bought Vampire Juice for everyone." I could practically smell Ruki's distaste in the air. "And secondly, I wish to have my wife all for myself after she has been socializing with everyone else for the whole evening."
"Well... your wife isn't against that at all..." I ran my fingers on his chest, following the buttons of his blue dress shirt.
Ruki snatched my hand and pulled me tightly against him. A strong arm enveloped my waist. "Close your eyes."
I did as told and felt how air swooshed around us. My skin tingled and my stomach turned slightly but I held to Ruki.
"You can open them now."
Slowly, I pushed my body into a straighter position and fluttered my eyelids up. "Oh my gosh! Where are we?"
Tumblr media
"While you were busy running around the manor, I took the liberty to ensure no one would bother us for the rest of the night. I can see that the familiars finished the decorations as I told them." Ruki gazed around a smug smile on his face. "I hope you like the cabin, my angel. It's a few kilometers to the north of the Polar Circle in the middle of the forest. Perhaps we'll even see reindeer tomorrow. "
"Oh, Ruki! I love it!" I jumped a little up and down, enjoying the cozy view and aroma of mulled wine and hot cocoa that wafted in the air.
"Is that so~?" Ruki chuckled, brushing my cheek.
"Totally!" Wrapping my arms around his neck, I rose on my toes and captured Ruki's lips with mine. "Thank you so much!"
"Mhh~ Bold..." The word was a mere mumble against my mouth as he pulled me even closer. His hand slid along my back, reaching under my bottom. He lifted me, and I instantly embraced his waist with my legs.
Smooching me again, Ruki carried me on the leather couch right next to the colorful tree. "I love you, my angel. From the bottom of my heart." He put me lying on the couch, inching closer.
"And I love you, Ruki. You're the love of my life."
Ruki laced his fingers with my hair, leaning even closer until our faces almost touched. "Prepare yourself, Yuriko. It's the longest night of the year, and your master will spoil you as long as it lasts." The tip of Ruki's nose rubbed against mine. "But tell me if you are feeling tired. You should be sleeping enough. Do you understand?"
"I... I... I do. But, Ruki, I can stay up for one night with you. I have plenty of time to snooze tomorrow~" Lifting my head slightly, I pressed my lips on Ruki's.

The Boys as bus drivers [Celestial Remix]
Hey Gamers! Today I’m surviving off of 3 hours of sleep, spite, and blasting “It’s My Party” on repeat so I thought I’d give you even more of our boys as bus drivers while I’m still at work! If you haven’t seen the first part [ click here ]
Diavolo
He goes slightly above the speed limit at all times
Does not care for rude people and has kicked several off the bus before
If he’s a school bus driver he brings snacks for major holidays
Has told corporate to “fuck off”
The people like him and he’s been working there too long to get fired easily
He’s a supervisor
Will tell you to stop cursing and stop standing.
Plays the “cool” radio stations to be hip with the kids
8/10 I would want him as my substitute bus driver
Barbatos
LMAO THIS MAN WOULD NEVER DRIVE A BUS
He’s a bus monitor
The kids respect him because he doesn’t nag them
He has yelled only once. To stop a brawl.
The kids started crying.
He apologized and told them he didn’t want them to “get written up”
They thought he was chill after that
He sometimes just comes in dressed up fancy as hell
Several people in the yard have a crush on him
He always says he is taken
No one can figure out who he’s “taken” by. It’s the gossip of the bus lot
Somehow is never late?? Even to last minute bus changes
9/10 because there’s no way parents and drivers both don’t fight over him being on their bus
Now on to the Celestials
Simeon
He says good morning to you every morning.
He warns you when he’s gonna run in to traffic
If you don’t have enough money and you’re his regular, he will cover for you.
He will work as a school bus driver on the side just to ensure the kids are safe.
That being said, there is absolutely NO CURSING on his bus.
There is no tomfoolery either! You either behave or get off.
The only exception is if you’re 5 or have any sort of stims or tics that you quite literally can’t stop
He has yelled at passengers for being mean to other passengers before
If a kid is sad he tells them he thinks that they are a ✨star✨
Is pleasant to almost everyone on the lot
He and Barbatos have a rivalry to be the most liked person in the bus yard
9/10 he’s just a generally nice fellow who doesn’t like bullies on his bus
Michael
He has beef with every other driver
He steals routes
His timing is always the same
But he will drive away as you’re running to the stop
Lucifer was trained by him
He then proceeded to get Lucifer’s promotion to supervisor taken away once he deemed Lucifer too good
Wants to be in corporate
Does not drive anything over or below the speed limit.
Does not play the radio
Writes people up
Parents love him, children hate him 😤
5/10 simply because he doesn’t technically break the law
Raphael
Oh boy here we go
I do not think this man should have a license
Admittedly I know nothing about him
The only thing he drives is a dirt bike
He is banned from driving on all highways
If he has a chaperone he can maybe, maybe, drive on the road
He ran Michael off the road 2 times
This is why he can’t drive
Unrelated but he looks like he’d call Michael “Mikey”
Yea like the ninja turtle
6/10 for the memes
Thirteen
She puts those lil window stickers on her bus windows
Has a matching purple vest with Asmo
I also know nothing about her
But I feel like she’d slay
Drives by the rules sometimes
Gives stickers to the kids that behave
Gives disappointed looks to those that don’t
Tells all the kids that she’s any magical creature they think she is when they see her hair
Most kids think she’s a mermaid
She does what she wants honestly
8/10 simply because she calls out sometimes to go attend concerts
BONUS
Solomon
He does not drive
He got demoted from a driver to a monitor
Why you ask? He tried to use the bus in a street race after hours
Asmo had to step in and say that Solomon told him “he had no idea he was driving in a street race. He just wanted to get the bus away from the crazy drivers”
No one believed him
But Asmo has pretty privilege and a generally good record so Michael let it go
:[ he would have won if he didn’t forget that buses do not go well with speed bumps
He tells the kids he’s a magician and does minor illusion tricks to keep them distracted if there is traffic
Likes to mess with the other monitors
Is mainly the reason gossip spreads in the bus yard
10/10 I would genuinely be excited to go to school if he was on my bus when I was little
Luke
He’s like 10 years old
He can’t drive.
Simeon makes him the line leader when it’s time for the kids to get off the bus :]
Sometimes talks about the funky cars they see on the road
Once got into a fight with Mammon over the fact that his school id counted as “his license”
It does not
Mammon let him win tho
Dressed up like a bus driver for Halloween
Tells everyone that Solomon is half cat
Solomon does not understand why this small sassy child is convinced he’s a cat
10/10 he would be a great bus driver in like 30 centuries :]

How about a scenario where Geno accidnetally turns into a mermaid?
Ooh! This sounds like fun!
.
For a few moments, nobody spoke. Whether it was from shock or the ensuing willingness to not make the situation worse, there was just a long pause of silence.
"Well," Geno decided to speak first. "This is new."
He was currently sitting on the edge of a lake, currently analyzing his newly acquired mermaid's tail. It was an odd spell that Valentina had cast upon him, but not unpleasant. The tail splashed in the water, its colors the same as his cape: blue with yellow scales on the end, a few on the side, and a gold set circling his waist.
"What now," Bowser growled, crossing his arms. "This is gonna put a wrench in getting those Star Piece thingies now!"
"It would do us no good in panicking and giving up," Geno retorted as calmly as he could. "We will just have to wait this out. I am sure that it will fade away soon. And if not, then we'll just have to make do."
"Well, you'll need to move around with us," Princess Peach pointed out. "We'll need to do something with your new mermaid tail!"
"I know, I know," Mallow raised his hand. "I have the perfect plan for that! Hang on! I'll tell Grandpa! He has something!"
Before anyone can protest, Mallow headed off a short distance away to his grandpa. Mario and Princess Peach awkwardly chuckled while Bowser growled in annoyance. Geno, meanwhile, mused about what abilities he could gain with his mermaid tail.
Could he swim faster?
Could he endure water more?
Perhaps an acquisition of water abilities?
"Geno," Mario startled him out of his thoughts. "Are-a you alright-a?"
"Yes, I'm fine," Geno replied. "I was just thinking about what I can do with this mermaid's tail."
"Well, it will-a be a while before-a Mallow comes back. Maybe-a you can-a try swimming in the lake."
Geno shrugged. Sure, it seems like a good idea! It also seemed like a good way to pass the time. Measuring the distance between each of the ends of the lake, Geno readied himself before diving into the lake.
'Amazing,' He thought, smiling as he saw the inner depths of the lake. 'Simply amazing.'
He could see all the flora and fauna, with the colorful flowers and the smiling tadpoles. He could also see the little waves of the lake. Geno, filled with determination, began to swim as fast as he could. The tail was swishing to and fro.
Mario, Princess Peach, and Bowser were watching as Geno's form was swimming under the lake before he broke the surface with the most elegant and shimmering splash they'd ever seen. Both Mario and Princess Peach were watching in pleasant awe. Even Bowser, reluctantly, admitted that it was a pretty good entrance.
"Woah," Mallow watched with glee. "That's so cool, Geno! Man, I wished I didn't miss it."
"I can do it again," Geno smiled. "We have some time."
"Thanks," Mallow beamed. "And I have the thing that we have to continue on our journey!"
"Oh, that's wonderful! What is it?"
~ A few minutes later ~
"I...don't know..."
"Come on! It'll be needed until the mermaid spell wears off!"
"But even still, isn't this a bit too...uh..."
"It'll be fine! It'll be temporary!"
And that's how Mallow convinced the others to stick Geno in a large fish bowl on wheels until the temporary mermaid spell wore off.

David “Hesh” Walker x mermaid!Reader Imagine
A/N🪶: I have work I need to do for my intro to graphic design class but David Walker is taking over my mind so I’m just gonna write a bunch of shit I’ve been thinking about. Use this for fics or art or whatever if you wanna! Let me know if you’d like to see more of this.
Okay, first and foremost, David x mermaid!Reader. There, I said it. You know this man would be so curious and gentle and sweet, wanting to learn more about the underwater life and maybe teach you some (good) things about his life on land like fruits and other foods. If you like salty fish, he’d probably try to bring a can of sardines or something. If you aren’t into fish—which is okay because this is reader and reader needs options— he’d try bringing fermented veggies like pickles with the brine and everything.
I think Hesh would want to see you try sweets and candies, but he’d also want to keep you away from unhealthy foods that might hurt your stomach. Plus, if anything happens to him and he can’t deliver you sweets, how will you get them? You need your snacks!
He’d try to practice holding his breath for long periods of time so he doesn’t have to worry about wasting oxygen tanks— and possibly risk exposing your existence. If you’re a “Little Mermaid” type mer-person or have gills (I say they’re in your neck), maybe you’d kiss him before he breaches the surface so he knows he can keep swimming with you.
Speaking of swimming, this man keeps flippers on him. Hesh wants to try to swim faster and keep up with you, of course, but even he needs a little help sometimes. If he ever forgets the flippers, you just take him by the hand, or better yet, you put your chest to his back and wrap your arms around him as you swim. More comfortable for both of you… plus you can definitely feel how fast his heart is beating being this close to you.
The first other human he introduces you to would def be Logan. I think both brothers are great swimmers and depending on the AU, Logan may need help being comfortable swimming again after almost drowning and getting crushed and hit with sonar with Keegan. Logan would also occasionally bring snacks and may even start fishing. I think he’d want to learn about the kinds of places you stay around and would want to try to help clean up some of the garbage and parts from destroyed ships and planes from the war definitely not because he thinks the parts would look cool as decoration.
Eventually, one of the other Ghosts would get curious and follow David to see where he’s going on all of his breaks. My guess would be Keegan or Kick as Merrick is too busy or doesn’t care as long as Hesh doesn’t get killed or kidnapped. Maybe both of them follow Hesh and see him sitting near the water on the docks. Right when they’re about to approach, you hoist yourself up. The two men can’t believe what they’re seeing. A fucking mermaid. What the hell kinda parallel universe did they stumble into (It’s an alternate universe, boys, get it right)?!
What’s even crazier is when they see Hesh hold your face in his hands and gently kiss your nose. Your smile, with a bunch of sharper-than-a-normal human teeth, shows. You both turn to look at them staring wide-eyed.
“This is what happens when you don’t mind your business.” Hesh says.
He introduces you and you simply wave at them. Later, when they try to explain what happened to Merrick, suddenly they have to get a psych evaluation and drug test. When they try to get Logan to help them explain, Logan just shrugs at Merrick. Hesh simply laughs to himself watching this happen. Though, his clothes are partially soaked. The “what if?” part of Merrick’s mind takes over more than he’d like to admit. It’s not until Hesh shows a photo of the two of you that Merrick decides to see you for himself.
Lo and behold, there you are. Colorful and cheery. No wonder Hesh has been so happy the past couple weeks. While you initially find Merrick to be scary, you warm up to him quickly.
And now Merrick has to apologize to Keegan and Kick for not believing them. All the while, you and Hesh watch the stars as you lay on the beach. Hesh uses every story of the constellations Logan and Elias have ever talked about, only having to discreetly search his phone once or twice.
The End.
I hope you enjoyed my daydreams.

Peter Pan imagine / Disturbia
Neverland… when you think of Neverland, you think of mermaids, Indians, pirates, lost boys, tropical creatures. No , that’s not what Neverland is at all.
Pirates are thieves, they will creep in the night and steal you.
The mermaids, they’re sirens , and they’ll creep inside you and consume you.
The Indians can put a disease in your mind and control you.
Too close to comfort? Yeah I know.
You arrived on neverland, soaking wet, you washed up on the beach not knowing what to expect
You arrived thinking it was rainbows and butterflies, you heard Peter Pan and his lost boys were mischievous but you didn’t know they were like this.
You were walking around and taking everything in , it was beautiful but you were worried about meeting everyone, you didn’t know what to expect but you hoped for the best,
Suddenly it became sunset in no time and you panic trying to get to the campground. Walking and trying to look for any sign you couldn’t find any. You were losing hope til then you saw fire . Finally you were about to be safe.
You walk up to the campground and see boys and girls, you thought Neverland was boys only? Apparently not.
They were dancing near the campfire, some had masks on their faces, some were holding swords and weapons, and some were even drinking what looked like whiskey straight from the bottle.
Geez you thought, they sure aren’t angels.
You walk up and nobody notices you, they continue to dance, drink and talk amongst themselves, until a younger lost boy pulls on your shirt
“What are you doing here?” He says in a nosy tone
“Hi! I’m Y/n and I wanted to join Neverland.” You say happily
That’s when everyone stops , the music, the laughter, and drinking.
“And what makes you think you’re even capable of joining Neverland?” A boy wearing all green comes out of the darkness, he had brown/chestnut hair and green eyes, he looked like trouble but that’s fine, you didn’t mind trouble.
“I heard about you, and well, I thought i fit the category.” You said
Everyone laughed
They all circled you and danced around you and verbally harassed you, calling you names and saying you weren’t fit for Neverland.
You start to regret your choice and decision of coming to Neverland , crouching down and putting your head on your knees and covering your ears trying to block everything out.
“Stop!” The boy with green eyes said
You look up and take your hands off your eyes, what was going to happen next?
You look at him and wait for whatever was in store
“What do you think Neverland is?” He asked
“Well I assume that it’s where lost boys and lost girls go, who are abandoned by their families.” You said unconfidently
“Wrong.” He said
“I beg your pardon?” You say a little scary
“Im Peter Pan. King of this island. And this , this is Neverland.” He said with a smirk
“Wha-what are you going to do to me?” You get a little nervous
“Nothing, yet, everyone, continue with your activities.” He said and everyone does
He grabs your hand and brings you in the campground even more , sitting you on a log as he still stands up
“Is this what you wanted ? To feel apart of something? To be loved and wanted?” He asked
“Well, yes.” You said simply
“You’re reading the wrong books, you’re in the cities of wonders, we ain’t gonna play nice, watch out, you might just go under, Better think twice. Your train of thought will be altered. So if you must falter be wise.” He says with a smile close to the fire
“Peter you’re gonna burn yourself watch out!” You say as he almost falls in the fire he saw how scared you were so he got amused
He then gets a sword from a lost boy and puts it in the fire waiting for it to turn red as it does he swings it next to you almost touching you with it, you’re scared and frightened, screaming for your life as everyone laughs and thinks it’s a joke and having fun, while you are having a horrible time.
Peter drops the sword and gets close to your face
“Am I scaring you tonight?” He says he says with a evil smirk
All you could do was just stare at him
“Ain’t used to what you like?” He asked again
You shake your head no.
“Welcome, to Disturbia, also known as, Neverland.” He says as everyone cheers and takes their cups and chugs their drink.
What’s next in store for you? You’ll have to find out.

COOLDOWN
"Ah, it’s so wonderful to see you again~!" Bianca happily swam down into her brother’s room with her beluga whale tail in tow, giving him a warm hug. "You two look absolutely wonderful like this!"
“I know that myself! I’m just so glad to see you again,” Barnacles happily sighed. He’d never felt so alive in 9 years. The time between then and now felt so lonely, having been without his twin sister for so long. Yet, today, he was FINALLY reunited.
Bianca DID feel a similar way. She WAS happy being in Nunavut with the company of the Polar Scouts, especially Tracker. Yet, with every year passing, not seeing her brother made her feel REALLY bad. To see him again was a dream, now coming true.
Peso himself enjoyed seeing reunions like this. Being one in hundreds in a family, he knew that feeling beyond belief. As he admired the embrace between brother and sister, he noticed something to his left.
"Captain, I believe you have another guest!" Said Peso, watching as Pearl swam into the room, joining in their hug. Bianca had immediately sensed her and broke from the hug for just a moment.
"Oh, right~!" She giggled as she entwined her tail with the otter’s. "Barnacles, I think I should tell you something! You know Pearl~?"
The other bear nodded happily. "Absolutely! I’ve worked with her quite a lot before! You remember Shellington as well, right? That’s her brother… swimming right past behind you."
As Pearl excitedly purred, Barnacles' sister looked to her left and saw him, squirming around with a leopard shark tail almost completely identical to his sister’s.
"THAT's her brother?" Bianca laughed. "That skinny, scrawny little merman? I almost forgot about him! Heck, I could take him down simply with my tail!" Barnacles put a paw on her shoulder in concern.
"Sorry, I went a little far." She blushed a little out of embarrassment. Perhaps that was not the best thing to say when you’ve just visited your distant brother for the first time in nearly a decade. She shook her head and decided to let Pearl continue her announcement.
"Aaaaanyways, Bianca wanted to tell y’all that…" Pearl started giggling a little. "Well, in all the time we’ve been together, us being the first two passengers… we’ve had feelings for each other, and I think she and I are a couple now."
Barnacles’ ears perked up. "Oh! That sounds nice. Apologies for the mess, by the way. Peso and I were just going through everything I left here. Has Natquik said anything?" He asked.
The two other mermaids remembered he was still in the Octoray and blushed a little.
"Not much, but he's definitely drier than all of us, that’s for sure." Bianca sighed. "What do you think, Pearl? Should we go tell him the truth?"
The otter looked at her, smiling in a slightly smug way, and softly answered.
"Nah. Race ya to the nearest reef!" and dashed out of Barnacles' room, faster than an electronic rabbit.
~~~~
Natquik was pulling at his fur.
He couldn’t believe it. He was in complete shock and denial. He tried to figure out just WHAT happened to those Octo-Agents. Pearl, Bianca, and Min were all gone, just like Paani.
Now it was just him, Koshi, and Yeshi left on the Octoray.
Of course, there were still a few others out there, including Calico Jack who would most certainly have an "understanding" about this thing, but he wasn’t gonna do this anymore. He was just despaired as hell and couldn’t find any reason to go for them, if they were just going to die as well.
Natquik figured out he’d just rot away here. This whole plan failed even more than he could chew. And now, he was left to reflect on it in immense grief.
Yeshi really wanted to speak up. He wanted to comfort the old fox a little. Yet, he had a feeling that would only make matters worse. That guy would maul him to death if he wanted.
If there was one thing he learned in Japan, it’s that you don’t mess with one who is heartbroken. Otherwise, they’ll only get worse.
"So I was looking at these papers, manuals for 'Octo-OS 14', and you know what I see in the distance?" Koshi eagerly told Orson and Ursa. "That’s right! DASHI! My sis! I saw her, she saw me, and she was a MERMAID! I’m not kidding either! I took PHOTOS of this! Full evidence!" She immediately showed them her Octo-Watch's screen. "There she is! She’s a DOLPHIN!"
At least she’s happy, Yeshi thought, as he turned on his laptop. As he went through his newsfeed, he found nothing on the Octopod crashing.
Of course, it was news from another universe, OUR universe, so there was that. No universe was meant to fully care about each other, a rule written in almost every book, in every language, in every font. It never hurts to get a little peek, though.
"Nothing of my interest," Yeshi sighed and closed his laptop. "No macarons. Guess I’ll go do something more… reasonable." He got up.
"Hey, guys. I’m gonna talk to Nat. Want anything?" The dachshund asked, getting a single "no" in response from Ursa. He slowly walked out.
As he entered the hallway, he instantly approached the fox, sulking next to the kelp cake vending machine. He tapped his shoulder, and,
"WHAT, СУКА!?" Natquik yelped at him. "Don’t walk up on people like that, YOU UNDERSTAND?"
The dachshund sighed in shame. Clearly this guy couldn’t be helped. Which made sense, but at the same time, it didn't. He knew he couldn’t just sit here and complain.
"Look. Professor Natquik? If you’re gonna complain over the disappearances of everyone, why don’t we go look for them now?" Asked Yeshi, not tolerating this any further. He reached his paw over to Nat, but the stubbornness clearly took him over.
"Fine. Think about it. Bitch.”
The sausage dog walked away from Natquik, and went into the cockpit. He didn’t take off, however. He just sat in the seat and looked at the windshield.
"I know there has to be a way to go there and NOT get hurt." He told himself. "I just KNOW Dashi is okay."
Yeshi looked over on his Octo-Watch. He figured he’d have to do this himself. Not that he was going alone, no. He just… wanted to prove a point to that poor fox.
And he knew exactly who could help.
~~~~
Shellington shook his head, closing his vacuum. "It must’ve gone loose. Good thing not much lesirena got out, or… knowing Tweak, you get the idea." He and Kwazii laughed it off and swam out.
Time had been going a little fast, at least that’s what Shellington had thought of. The skies above were already turning yellow, as the clock struck 5:00 PM.
Day 4 of… being like this.
Like Peso, he found it interesting. It’s only been 4 days since the crash and it felt like a month. Perhaps it was because of how much time he spent with Kwazii, but he didn’t know.
To think he was just one of a handful down here… Above were still billions of people, human or not… Well, mostly not. Once again, this was the Meomiverse. All the folks above were going on with their daily lives, most likely.
Meanwhile? Shellington was down here, again and again... well, apart from those 3 past years or something. He didn’t remember too well, but that didn’t matter.
He was better off down HERE anyways.
The kelp forests ahead seemed like a nice place to the couple. Now that they were both half shark, there was no excuse to NOT enjoy themselves. Especially since they finally resolved… all that stuff that happened earlier.
Clearly, that was already in Kwazii's mind, because he was off swimming long before Shellington could snap back to reality.
From a distance, "Ye oughta catch up, Shellie!" The merkitten called out, admiring his surroundings. "It’s too nice to not go in- Yeow!"
The sea otter immediately swooped down in front of him, giggling at his lover's surprise. He knew a little playing around didn’t hurt.
"Don't underestimate my tail, Kwazii!" He swam over to him. "You’re looking at 12 miles an hour, just a little over the top average speed of a REAL leopard shark! Ha ha ha!"
The kitten recovered from his surprise and waved to his merotter. He surely was a fast one, which he liked.
"Did you know that just like me, leopard sharks tend to thrive in these kelp forests? It’s so fitting!" Shellington flopped over and landed on his back in the sand, seemingly beckoning Kwazii to do the same, which made him laugh. "It feels like I’m truly at home! Wouldn’t you agree~?"
And so, the two were on the sea floor, just enjoying themselves in this vast blue. When was the last time they had felt so happy like this? Definitely quite some time ago, if anything. But it was always great to spend time together like this, especially now that legs were a thing of the past… for them, at least.
No one really cared that they were stranded here anymore. After all, it wasn’t like there was anything to worry about. It was best to use this time to just… chill out, as everyone decided.
Unfortunately, the world above stood turbulent, as Yeshi and Natquik sat in their silent quarrel. Both of them were slowly burning on the inside, about to snap at any moment.
The former knew he shouldn’t go ham on anyone. That would destroy the whole purpose of going for others, which was to get more info on how Dashi and the others ended up like.
"This." The dachshund chuckled, looking at the photo Koshi took, bundled with a sketch of how she would probably look above the surface. "This thing? It’s literally all I wanted to see."
You would think Natquik would finally understand if he saw that image. But he kept denying everything, like I once did, and never will do again. It was never healthy for me. It won’t be for him either.
Koshi walked in and looked at both of them. She didn’t risk saying a word, for that would set everything on fire. Being the only Octo-Agent that wasn’t completely broken, transformed, OR somewhere else, she knew the best she could do was fix these two angry folks.
And that’s when an idea came to her mind. Everyone had to be safe; they were mermaids after all.
Not that Koshi wanted to become a mermaid… well, not yet. She was still a bit too young for that, even if her sis was down there. However, she didn’t HAVE to become like her just to go down there. At least, not anymore.
Alpha wouldn’t be sufficient for this idea of hers. The puppy was gonna need a full-fledged GUP. Not a Terra-GUP, a REAL GUP. Something not considered in YEARS.
It was time to take to the sea once again. Finned or not. As long as Koshi could prove something to that professor.
Natquik sat in the resting quarters, waiting for any signals from down there. He put on his headset, quieting out the world outside. Yeshi was gonna make his next move eventually, but the Arctic fox wanted to forget that. That gave him a headache.
As he started to close his eyes, the world around him rumbled, like an earthquake. It was the engines. Yeshi definitely turned them on.
He slammed open the door and briskly walked to see what all this was about. This time, however, he wasn’t gonna go berserk. Neither were. Not this time.
The dachshund immediately felt Natquik's presence and took a deep breath, ready to confess his actions.
"I know it’s hard to get over sudden events like these," he sighed. "And I totally get that… but, like, what if I told you…" He held up the image of Dashi, kinda shoving it in the professor's face. "You see that? Koshi saw the Octonauts. ALIVE. If they’re safe, then the Octo-Agents should be as well."
Natquik already knew that was a good thing, but he knew he couldn’t just go down there, just him and this brother and sister. And everyone being mermaids was, to him, a huge issue. Which also made sense. No one could get anything done if they were stuck below the waves.
They both figured there was no reason to make this another step worse.
"I have calls to make. Fly this thing like there’s no tomorrow, or else there IS no tomorrow." Natquik took a deep breath.
It was time to find a cure.
As Koshi packed all her gear for the trip down, the Octoray started to LEVITATE.
"WHAT?! No, you can’t be serious. Are we REALLY leaving!?" Koshi put her paw to her face. "Forget it… They’re not gonna listen… At least not the big fox. I’ll have to escape! Like I was never there!"
10 feet above the ground, the cargo door opened down, and she leapt off, crashing paw-first into the hot sands of Guadalupe.
The impact was painful, and she could barely get up. But she was not going home until she knew exactly what was going down there.
First thing to do? Find out why Dashi was a mermaid… furthermore, everyone else, if they were also alive.
"A little sprain isn’t stopping anything," Koshi rubbed her left ankle, numbing out the pain from the fall. As she got back up, she noticed Paani on the shore, with his tail fully visible.
"Heeeey! I recognize you!" She scampered over to him. "You look like my sis…"
"Uhhh, yeah," The macaque monkey flopped his fins in awkwardness. "How did you not get turned?" he asked. "And where’s Natquik?"
"Flew off. With my brother," she sighed in annoyance. She knew she should’ve gone up there and ask what they were doing, but she had other things to do right now.
"What? Are you serious… I paddled for hours out of San Diego, had a few mental breakdowns, almost drowned down there, got turned into a mermaid, waited an extra night for him, and now you’re telling me he just LEFT?!" Paani started to freak out. It was like that fox never cared, he thought.
Koshi looked at the manta's Octo-Watch, now haphazardly, but tightly wrapped around his tail. He definitely was something different from Dashi, that was for sure.
"I’m sure he'll be back!" The puppy smiled, calming him down a little. "Is everyone okay down there?" She took out that same photo of Dashi, showing it to Paani like she did to Orson and Ursa.
Needless to say, the mermaid was surprised. Koshi HAD been down there, but unlike everyone else, she didn’t get close. Pearl and Bianca got turned inside the Octopod, Min just a mile away… the macaque himself had no idea where HE was turned, but oh well.
"I suppose your investigative behavior made you dodge a bullet." Paani looked around. "And yes, everyone’s safe, but I wouldn’t go down if I were you… unless you’re okay getting transformed like I was."
The dachshund shook her head. This mermaid had a point, even if there wasn’t THAT much danger down there. She handed over her camera, asking Paani to record everything that had happened. However, he rejected, as he wasn’t good with handling those. "I’ll ask Dashi to record the area herself." He suggested, to which Koshi happily nodded.
"Well, tell her I said hi. This case is FAR from closed. If anything, it’s open 24/7!"
~~~~
Compared to flying QANTAS, it only took about, like, 2 and a half hours or so to get here from Mexico. Close to the Concorde, if anything. Yet, it was even more dangerous for something like the Octoray.
And someone was clearly unhappy about that.
"Crikey! Are you two serious? You could’ve crashed that thing!" Ryla rambled about the overspeeding that Yeshi did.
The dachshund would’ve also mentioned "kidnapping" Orson, Ursa and Periwinkle but that was gonna be one step too far for this angry, angry wombat. As if she didn’t know that part either.
"R-Ryla, it wasn’t that…" Natquik tried to speak up to no avail. That cave diver kept bumbling on about all of their violations. The Arctic fox totally understood why flight logs were always printed out after landing, but this was just ridiculous.
"I think we should’ve went for the big ranger first. He was WAY closer in the first place," Yeshi sighed, before remembering why he was here. If only Ryla could stop talking for one moment.
Natquik managed to fix that, by firmly holding her arm.
"…right. Now what’s happened? I shoulda listened." The wombat awkwardly shook her head.
Yeshi, being Dashi's brother, who herself was best friends with Ryla, was more than eager to go at this whole thing again, talking about how she and the Octonauts all got into a crash and became mermaids, and that some of the Octo-Agents INCLUDING Paani were also involved and that they got transformed-
"Hang on. Whaddya just say about… Dashi?" The wombat's eyes widened. "I’m a little lost."
After a quick second of internally screaming, the two lead Ryla to the Octoray, completely fine as it turned out. What a relief, everyone sorta thought.
"Simply put, the Octonauts are mermaids. And we’re trying to fix that." Yeshi said.
Fix? The cave diver was doubtful. Not only of fixing this, but that Dashi was part… creature. Ryla knew it just couldn’t be that easy to fix her without some kind of surgery.
It was best not to decline, because this could definitely be worse than what she heard.
Dashi was out there.
As were the others.
Meanwhile, Koshi had been waiting here in the excruciating heat for some time now, without anyone around but herself.
"Well, good thing I DID bring myself a novel. This one’s number 71." She went to page one and tried to look at the words.
Unfortunately, even that wasn’t helping, because all she could see and feel and smell was sand. Burning, salty sand. It felt like a furnace, which didn’t feel good.
Koshi knew Paani didn’t recommend her to go into the water, but he never did specify how deep. She moved over to where over met under, setting her legs into the seawater. Almost immediately did she feel much better. Much colder than the air above.
"Must be nice down there," she sighed. "I'm probably too young for a tail like my sis. Maybe someday…"
Then came complete silence. Except for the waves. Was this okay? Yeah, kind of. Sure, Koshi was completely alone, but she felt alright. There wasn’t really anything to NECESSARILY worry about anymore.
Suddenly, that moment of quiet was broken by a whole new voice.
"Are you… stranded?"
Taking a quick look back revealed who that was. A coyote, dusted with sand. Probably have walked for hours around here.
"No, I’m not. You seem to have gone through some tough things here. I assume YOU'RE stranded." Koshi noted the rarity.
The coyote shook their head and chuckled. "No, no, I LIVE here. I’ve never seen your face here. What’s a little puppy like you doing over on this beach?"
"Crash." She simply replied. That surprised the local, having not known about anything. Sure, Hurricane Selma brushed past Isla Guadalupe and left a bit of a mess, but everyone seemed okay after.
"So, like, you survived one?"
Koshi nope'd. "My sis did. You’ve heard of the Octonauts, right? She’s part of them. The Octopod crashed with everyone inside."
The coyote looked at her in surprise. They HAD known about the Octonauts, but didn’t really care about them until now. Of course, this island was probably one of the only places where fishing in the Meomiverse was actually common. Elsewhere, you were just eating… whatever wasn’t a critter in the ocean, like kelp, obviously.
"Oh, right." They snapped back to reality. "Yeah, I’ve heard of the Octonauts. They’re cool and all, and… damn, they crashed?"
The two looked out at the ocean. No noise, except for the waves in the distance. The sun was setting and the sky was slowly going dark.
"Damn, they crashed."
The dachshund turned her head to face them. "It’s a miracle they’re all alive and reachable," she smiled, thinking particularly of Dashi. "What’s your name, by the way?"
"Yuma." The coyote sighed, looking back at the island. "Get it? Because 'Yu' know everybody, but nobody knows 'Ma'." They laughed a bit at their pun. "No worries, I don’t bite. No reason to."
"Oh. That’s clever. You must be a longtime resident. I’m Koshi. I actually WORK with the Octonauts, on a smaller scale. I’m a junior Octo-Agent." The two shook paws in a slightly awkward way.
You had this island-dwelling introvert who watched reruns of old anime from the 1970s to 1990s all night, and then you had an affiliate with one of the biggest names in the Meomiverse. Not as impressive as meeting the Octonauts themselves, but oh well. Not like they would care about this place. If anything they’d be a little pissed if the locals weren’t catching INVASIVE species, which they WERE. Thankfully, just because fishing was allowed didn’t mean there were no rules.
"Well, good to meet you… Koshi." Yuma said in a slightly embarrassed tone. "I’m gonna head home now, it’s way too hot out-"
"Can I come with you? You don’t bite, right?" Koshi yipped.
"Oh, really? In MY 1999 Daihatsu Atrai?" The coyote leaned on its driver door, looking at the young dachshund. “Absolutely. Get in the front.”
Cars weren’t a super common thing to see in the Meomiverse. You tend to see them in more rural areas or big cities like Vancouver or Tokyo. But in the suburbs you would walk or bike. Which was totally fine, it was. Most folks preferred feet over the engine, so getting a driver's license was relatively easy. You still had to pass the required tests, but it was still a cool breeze. Yuma was one of those lucky ones with a Kei van like this, but nobody in Guadalupe cared. Not like they cared either, as long as their father had enough space inside. He was busy with other things off the island, so Yuma had the van all to themselves tonight.
“It’s a good thing there’s ONE music station on this island that the military leaves running all night.” The coyote turned the dial. “This kind of shit plays on EVERY station in this universe, but dear CLOUD does it go HARD.”
Koshi identified the song as AQUASINE’s StreetPass Millionaire. Indeed, she’d have heard that over in Australia, Chile, and Switzerland… and everywhere else. But like what that new friend of hers said, it DOES sound good.
So now, the two were headed from one coast to the other. Being in this van was a million times better than sitting on hot sand.
Especially now that Yuma knew someone who KNEW THEM back.
Min and Inkling both sat on top of the Octopod, admiring the view from above. As the world went dark for the night, the sea shone in orange, then to a dark blue. All while the other mermaids were exploring their surroundings, or simply resting down here.
“You know, some time after we met, I was working on a replica of this ship.” The professor mentioned, reaching for a book. “Good thing this wasn’t lost. Right, so it was 2008. A few years after working on some simulations of the Octonauts before I actually founded them. Turns out Captain Barnacles and Tweak were on board, as was Professor Natquik. They were younger at the time… and I mean YOUNG, for Barnacles and Tweak.
“Seems like you four go back like we do,” Min replied with a flutter of her wings. “Exactly what happened to that replica?”
“We ended up crashing near Seattle for reasons unknown, most likely the result of an evasive maneuver to avoid other traffic in the area.. It’s a good thing everyone was safe after that one as well… goodness, seems like history really repeats itself.”
The red panda giggled. “Indeed it does, Inky… indeed it does… Sometimes I think of how things would’ve gone if we met the other way around… not like I have to imagine that anymore! Haha!”
Inkling inched closer to the sea angel mermaid, admiring her new form. Min was still feeling weird over it, but it was a good thing she wasn’t fully alone.
It was then, Shellington swam past them in slight worry. He was following Tunip, eagerly guiding him northeast towards Baja California. Because of how sudden this invitation was, the merotter couldn’t even ask what it was about, leaving him in complete mystery.
Although, he did note that Kwazii wasn’t anywhere to be found when he woke up from his slumber in the kelp forest.
The sea otter had a hunch on what was going on, but he couldn’t figure it out just yet.
~~~~
“Oh, oh no… All of you, stay here. I’m gonna go out there myself.”
As Natquik left the Octoray and approached the bunker next to the emergency post, he let out an annoyed sigh. He could hear the Top Gear theme song playing inside, LOUDLY, which immediately meant that Tracker was up to no good as always.
The Arctic fox started banging on the door to try and get his attention over the loud TV. But that’s when he remembered he had the key to this place.
“Этот медведь…” he groaned as he got inside. “Tracker, I thought you would remember this. Get up.” He turned off the TV and stared down at the polar bear, who was dazed on the couch with a half-eaten Cosmic Brownie on his forehead.
Tracker got up immediately, feeling completely fine, and stuffed what was left of the brownie into his mouth. “Oh hey, Professor Natquik! I missed you! How was it in Mexico?”
Natquik just stared at him as he remembered all that had happened up until now, and teared up a little. He didn’t want to make Tracker feel bad, no, he would never do that to any Polar Scout, especially not one of the best Polar Scouts behind Barnacles.
“…everything went well, Tracker.” He softly said, crouching down to give him a hug. “I’m glad to be back here, that’s all. Has everything been okay for you?”
The polar bear eagerly nodded. “Absolutely! We’ve just been enjoying our small break, so some of the other scouts were in the bunker here. It’s huge, AND connected to other bunkers, so there’s that!”
Of course they’d have been using the underground tunnels, Nat thought. Not that it was bad, but he didn’t want anyone using them for malicious purposes. Not that any of the Polar Scouts would actually do that as there WAS lots of security… well, except for Tim but he already left a month ago so thank cloud for that.
Enough of that, however. What Tracker decided was that it’s still time to kick back and relax, and-
“I’m gonna need you in the Octoray. Important meeting. And since you’re the second best Polar Scout, you could be of some REALLY big help.”
It turns out, for Tracker… that break was about to be over.
Hopefully it was gonna be a quick excursion.
“Oh, Kwaaaazii~? Where are yoooou~?” The sea otter sang out as he swam through the cooler waters, curiously swishing his shark tail. He knew other sharks thrived in these waters, but there was no way he could miss him… with his distinctive upper half.
Shellington had to admit, it was great to swim in another part of the ocean now that he was like this. If Kwazii WAS out here, he had a feeling that kitty felt the same.
It was getting really late now. 8 PM, and the moon was gleaming above. Which felt… nice. Was it a good idea to be so far away from the Octopod at night? Not really, but Shellington didn’t care. Not when Tunip was STILL going.
And just when they were both starting to get tired… "Uüskah mika…?”
Something appeared, RIGHT in front of him. And when he looked up, he started immensely blushing.
It was Kwazii, posing on an undersea ledge, shrouded in the moonlight, taller than the shark he called his. “Ye’ finally made it~! Sorry I scared ya, I just wanted to play a little.” He giggled, making way for Shellington to sit next to him. A bit difficult with the dorsal fins, so the best option was to lounge on their sides, leaning their heads against each other’s.
“Far away from the Octopod, just us three in the middle of nowhere… no getting chewed out by Tweak either. Now THIS is more like it,” the sea otter yawned. “Anything cool happening here? There’s gotta be some underwater cities of other mermaids if we’re like this, right?”
Kwazii shook his head. “Avast. I haven’t seen a single other being down here. Just sharks, sharks, and even more sharks!… like us. Maybe I’m just not searchin’ far enough. What ye’ say we… EXPLORE around here tomorrow? Not like we have anything to worry about~!”
Shellington happily nodded, looking up at the ocean surface. Even below the waves, he could see the sky lit up with millions of stars, maybe more than that. It was so beautiful, it really was. Just like who was sitting next to him.
Something about this whole experience was so… dreamy. Not only was it being with Kwazii, but the whole atmosphere. The vast, vibrant ocean, distant from everybody else, in the middle of the night, just watching it all go by and by… with the kitten who knew and loved him so well.
Shellington gently held the other mermaid’s paw, eyes still locked to the world above. About a week ago, they were up there, with LEGS. And now?
“Gosh, how fast things change.” He softly said, as his vision slowly blurred. “I suppose we should get some rest for real now.”
“Mmmhmmm…” Kwazii murmured. “A little catnap never hurt a pirate… Well, mermaid. TWO mermaids. You and me~!” The seas went fully dark, as he shut his eyes.
“Goodnight, Shellington.”
“Goodnight, Kwazii.”

Yuma’s house: small, built out of a (Meowrsk) Maersk-labeled container, and big enough for them and me. Located just a kilometer north of the main neighborhood on the southwest coast of Guadalupe, and has a pretty good view of the sea. Could probably see my sis from here if she shows up. I hope she does.
Koshi continued to write down the details of this place, sitting on Yuma’s bed while they were on the couch, eating a bag of marshmallows and watching more of that 80s anime as always. One of the only stuff available on this island anyways. Not that it sucked, but the coyote did wish for some variety sometimes.
“So, you got any family?” The dachshund asked. “I assume they’re off this island.”
Yuma nodded. “A little bit. Just mi madre in San Diego, and my dad who works down here.” They put away the marshmallow bag and shut off the TV. “How about you?”
“Well, of course there’s Dashi, my sis, as well as my mum and dad all in Australia.” Koshi took a deep breath. “Then you’ve got Yeshi, my bro who lives in Hokkaido, and then you’ve got my twin brother and sister Fishi and Tushi over in Okinawa… and then there’s me, and also Oyshi, who went into hiding somewhere in Taiwan. Needless to say, we’re all over the place.”
The coyote laughed at that last comment. “Must be some sick family reunions… I suppose being an Octo-Agent gives you the advantage to get everywhere in a few hours-”
Suddenly, out of nowhere, came the WHOOSH of a jet engine, and a few panels started falling from the sky, crashing into the ground across southern Guadalupe and the waters surrounding it. They all missed Yuma and their house, but they could’ve sworn they saw their life flash before their eyes.
“Everything alright? I heard something out there.” Koshi ran outside and noticed the mess everywhere. Other residents were also outside, trying to comprehend what was happening. Planes never really show up down here, but the dachshund immediately knew what was going on.
“Yuma, I oughta go.” Koshi blushed awkwardly.
“Oh, NO. You’re not going alone.”
~~~~
Yeshi stressingly kept watching Natquik as he landed on the same beach they departed earlier. He could tell that he was only getting worse as time went by, and that it was probably a bad idea to have ever cooperated with that fox.
That banging from below wasn’t a good sign either. Did something just break? Probably so. They were going 700 miles an hour earlier anyways.
Ranger Marsh, on the other hand, was more calm, stayed focused on the main issue, and unlike Natquik he wasn’t putting himself in more pain. If anything, he’d be happy to take over for the sake of that guy’s mental health.
In their minds, everyone was starting to prefer being with Tweak’s pa.
“Just take a few deep breaths, Nat. You’re gonna be okay,” Marsh patted him on the back. “We shouldn’t be sweating this out. I mean, they ARE alive-”
“I KNOW they’re alive, but they’re MERMAIDS,” The fox groaned. “What can the Octonauts get done if they’re like that forever?”
“Listen, Natquik. I’ve known them probably LONGER than any of you guys… well, except for Orson and Ursa.” The bunny sat next to him, looking back at the other Octo-Agents. “Think of it like an advantage. And who knows? Maybe it was best for them.”
Before Natquik could say anything in response, Ryla was already preparing to make a swim for it, so as to get close up on this whole situation. The Octonauts were easily contactable, again, so the Arctic fox decided to give them a call now that he was on stable ground.
“Hiya!”
Ironically, Pearl picked up right away, shark tail in full view. She was more than delighted to see the Professor, even if he was still quite distant.
“Why, I’m not seeing this correctly. Pearl? You’re alive?” Natquik gasped. “I thought we’d have lost you, Bianca and Min for a whole night!”
“I knew it!” came from a voice behind the fox. Koshi made it back to the Octoray. “Hey, Pearl! How’s my sis?”
“All is well here, Koshi! Anything up there I should know about?” The otter curiously tilted her head, to which the dachshund was about to reply, but then noticed Ryla looming over her.
“Well, there’s stuff that I gotta know about,” the wombat replied. “For example: how exactly you blokes ended up like that. Hence why I’m headed your way now, BYE!” She rushed outside through the cargo bay, coming to a halt right on the shore to link her Octo-Watch with Natquik’s JUST in case, and THEN went into the water.
“Dashi, here I come.” She blurted out, before dunking her head into the sea.
Tracker left the sleeping quarters and walked over to where Natquik was, silently praying to the clouds above. The only time the Professor did that was if a miracle happened, so all seemed well for now.
As Koshi continued to explain to Orson, Ursa, and Periwinkle that their mothers were now actual mermaids, Yeshi and Tracker were waiting for what Natquik would do next. He got quite better, so maybe this was where he finally accepted what happened.
Or, at least up until they all heard a splash outside. It wasn’t Ryla either.
“Finally… ugh, I hate crawling on this sand. At least I get to live in the sea now,” Paani panted as he looked up at the Octoray, Natquik having finally returned and going outside to investigate. “About time you made it as well.”
The Arctic fox, a little miffed, approached the macaque and held both of his arms. “We need to talk. Now.” Like that, he started to haphazardly drag him towards the cargo bay.
“Hey! Let go of me!” Paani shouted. “I just wanted to stop by! What’s this all about?”
Natquik shook his head in regret. “Don’t panic, Paani. I’m not mad. May we just… talk inside?”
The monkey sighed. “Fine, but get me some water while we’re at it! And make it QUICK!”
Around the same time, Ryla excitedly knocked on the outer wall of the HQ. She immediately knew Dashi was inside, and eagerly waited for her response. Her oxygen level was totally full, so there was no worry about staying about an hour here.
Min floated next to her, twitching her sea angel tail. “I could go in there myself and tell her, if you want,” The red panda offered, swimming up to Ryla’s face.
“I appreciate it, but I wanna make this a surprise. To see your old mate and know both of you are doing okay is always so nice, hm~?” The wombat replied, her and Min immediately thinking of Inkling. “I know you know that feeling.” She swam over the window, down where the roof used to be, and landed on the floor, with the slug mermaid carefully following her.
“Crikey, to think I rarely got to see inside of here before now…” Ryla sighed as she climbed down the ladder. “Those agents don’t appreciate you enough, Min.”
“Min?”
Seems like the red panda suddenly vanished. Ryla looked around, making full 360 turns in the main area, before noticing something shiny on her visor.
“Oi! What are ya’ doing hugging my face like that?” She put her paw just an inch away from the sea angel. “What’s up with you being the size of a Tim Tam? You’re asking for THE ONE GRIT.”
Min wasn’t listening. She was just in complete disbelief of what she just did. Did she just shrink to a sixteenth of her size, or was it just a hallucination?
Ryla called her name again, which got her attention. She yelped at the sigh of the wombat’s big face right in front of her.
“I didn’t know I could do THAT!” Min floated around aimlessly, confused. It was a cool quirk, but at the same time, it was terrifying for a moment. “Uh, Ryla, is it okay if you hold me? I’ll have to figure out how this works… plus, I could guide you around.”
Because of how small this red panda was, Ryla did find it a little hard to hear her, but she totally understood and appreciated the help. She got a soft grip on the sea angel mermaid, and resumed her thinking about where Dashi was.
“If she’s not in the HQ, she might be in the launch bay or the laboratory. Be careful, because Tweak’s asleep in the former and I’d rather not wake her up.” Min informed the wombat with a tone of sympathy. “She’s been through some hard times lately.”
Ryla decided to follow her advice, choosing NOT to risk her life, and went straight for the lab. Perhaps there were other folks there as well.
And what did she know? She was right! Pearl, Bianca, AND Dashi were all in there. All waiting for her. And now, all cheering, the moment they saw her face.
Dashi swam right at her, wrapping her arms around the wombat. “Ahh, been too long… I missed you so much! Did you hear what happened? We’re MERMAIDS~!”
Ryla excitedly nodded. “Absolutely, Dashi! Pearl let everybody above know about it! And crikey, ALL of you are SOOO CUUUUTE~! Mate, I’m at a LOSS of words.”
Min could feel herself growing again, wriggling out of the wombat’s paw and swimming off. Not like the cave diver would notice anyways. It was adorable, seeing the whole reunion from behind. It reminded her to go help Inkling with moving the Octopod into an upright position.
Ryla, Dashi, and the mothers kept enjoying themselves in the empty lab. Shellington was away tonight so chilling here was totally fine.
The only objective was to find out what caused these changes, which could wait.
As Natquik laid Paani down on the floor of the Octoray, Yeshi, Tracker, and Koshi all excitedly went up to him.
“Hey, guys!” The mermaid awkwardly giggled. “Seems like I’ve gotten myself in a bit of a situation, but it’s good to see all of you again!” He held up one of his fins, showing off its natural color.
“Eccentric severe tumors, you look great!” said Tracker. “What’d you bring him in for, Natquik?”
The fox embarrassingly turned to face him and drooped his ears.
“…I… I don’t know.”
Everyone facepalmed. Paani did it twice. Didn’t this guy want to talk to him about SOMETHING? Natquik tried to think again, up until the mermaid reminded him.
“You wanted to talk to me.” He looked up at him with a slightly annoyed expression in his eyes. “What was it?”
Tracker stood close to the fox for comfort, as he immediately remembered everything. “Right!” The Professor shrugged. “I just wanted to interview you on what’s going on down there.”
Natquik signaled Tracker to jot everything down, which he did so on his Octo-Watch.
N: What exactly happened, and what got you transformed?
P: Well, simply put, I was in San Diego at the time I made that group call. I left on my paddle board about an hour later and ended up getting lost. So, I tried to get to shore and had to abandon board because it was stressing me out. Needless to say, that was not my brightest idea because I ended up nearly drowning, and so Shellington and Kwazii transformed me themselves.
N: Is there a reason why you never told us your plan, or why you didn’t wait for us?
P: I figured you would’ve found my location yourself. I mean, we all have our Octo-Watch on. Somehow, mine got on my tail. I think Shellington did that.
N: Is the ocean still safe at this point?
P: Absolutely! Tweak helped clean up whatever chemical got all of us turned, and there shouldn’t be such danger anymore. Although, according to you, the damage has already been done.
N: I never said anything about- nevermind.
N: If I did this and not you, how would you react?
P: Honestly? I wouldn’t mind at all. I would even go as far to say that THAT would be SPLASHING. You know what? Why don’t you- OW! Hey, what was that slap in the face for?! You were asking how I would react, so I was being completely honest!
N: PAANI. You’re not taking this seriously at ALL. WHEN will you learn that your actions have consequences?
P: Look, I JUST said I was being completely honest. Take a deep breath and relax, okay?
“Okay, that’s enough, guys.” At that, Tracker had to stop the interview, getting between Natquik and Paani as things started getting heated. “Paani, Yeshi, and I will be in the cargo bay. Don’t mess anything up.”
Koshi stood next to the Arctic fox, giving him the stink eye. Any more of this, she might even leave him to die from embarrassment on this island. He should’ve seen that one coming.
Poor Orson, Ursa and Periwinkle still didn’t understand what all this was about. But at least their mothers were okay. At least that’s what Koshi told them.
It was up to Ryla to tell everything for REAL.
~~~~~~
Shellington and Kwazii were in a SUPER deep sleep. Completely disconnected from the world, their dreams linked only between each other by their paws.
As such, they weren’t aware at all of what happened to Tunip. He'd been struck by one of those panels that fell from the Octoray, which knocked him out, leaving him floating to the surface, and pushed by the tide towards Guadalupe.
No one else was aware. Especially not on the surface. Especially not Yuma. They didn’t bother staying at the Octoray where Koshi was. That was pretty useless. Was any of that dilemma worth it? No. They went home to cast a line like they were planning earlier. Nothing like helping your dad, even by a little.
“He won’t be back until next week. I’ve got time.” They smirked, as they swung the pole. For a moment, there was just silence. The distant sound of crickets chirping was all that could be heard. The coyote didn’t mind it, but regardless they put on their headphones. Just for SOME noise.
Atmospheric DnB in ears, eyes staring at the vast sea. Yuma was mesmerized. There wasn’t anything on their mind, not even Koshi.
And that’s when danger comes. The lack of awareness overtook them. They just stood there, not knowing what to do.
And then, the sound of a splish, woke Yuma up. They immediately started reeling up the rod, trying to see if they actually got something. It was a little light, so maybe they were just hallucinating.
Unfortunately, at the very last moment, they realized their catch.
“Oh… SHIT. What the hell is that?”
Yuma had just caught Tunip. By the tail.

Transpanda OC Tournament Round 3
Tumblr media
The rules of the tournament
Brief introduction to "Thank You For Existing"
CHARACTER BIOS BELOW
Astraeus
Tumblr media
“Captain Nameless taught Astraeus how to run on crutches. But she’s so insistent I go faster! Pretty soon, Astraeus is worried he’ll run so fast he’ll start swimming in the air!”
In the deepest, darkest depths of the ocean, a race of merfolk wallows in general misery, albeit safety. Astraeus, naturally adventurous, rejects this, and leaves to see land, people, and sunlight. A sailing captain he meets, Nameless the Beardless, teaches Astraeus that traversing the human world isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The merman responds simply: grabbing a pair of crutches and walking forward anyway. Nameless, perhaps a little too impressed, immediately starts training Astraeus to overcome any obstacle on crutches. …Really REALLY training him. Astraeus’s top speed on land is 30 mph, and god does he look frantic as he does it.
Primary Inspiration: Ariel from The Little Mermaid
Plural or Plural Adjacent?: Neither (For now :P)
Art of Astraeus's current design by: ragingwoodcock, and Astraeus's old design by... um. Lab Zero's @indivisiblerpg we guess. (Who drew him honestly?)
Sue Mary (Shirley A. Gonna)
Tumblr media
“I am nothing more than a shambling corpse, designed to demonize systems everywhere. It is obvious. I shouldn’t exist, sister.”
Shirley A. Gonna was originally a main antagonist, who existed to blame a neurodivergent person for society’s woes. Jilly Bean, sensing a scapegoat villain, changed Shirley’s life forever with a second chance. Wishing to atone and help her new friend, she put her all in reforming villains like her. Until one proved they really were just a villain, and everything went black for her. Years later… She woke up. An inky slime, Sue Mary, had accidentally merged and resurrected her body. Feeling immense guilt for her failures in life, “Sue Mary” decides to heal her friend one last time before leaving for good. She is the final main character of TYFE: Death of the Author.
Primary Inspiration: Tsumugi Shirogane from Dangan Ronpa (Read that full name title again)
Plural or Plural Adjacent?: Plural
