Hi! If your requests are still open can I request something with echo with a female or GN reader and with the angst prompt: “Don’t ever do that again.”
Maybe reader does something dangerous and Echo has to swoop in and save the day? Thanks! Love your writing 😊
Thank you so much, my friend!! I hope this is to your liking 😊
"Something Crazy"
15. "Don't ever do that again."
Pairing: Echo x fem reader
***
It was just another job for Cid with the Bad Batch and it was like the many others you'd done. You were given limited intel and there always seemed to be some important detail Cid would leave out, particularly pertaining to unsavory characters you'd have to fight or various creatures you might encounter, usually of the large variety. Which was incredibly annoying.
You guys were dropping supplies for one of Cid's contacts, but it turned out the drop zone was swarming with Gundarks...which once again, she had failed to mention.
"Are you kidding me? Gundarks?" Echo questioned aloud in annoyance.
"Great...it's always something," Hunter grumbled. Then he turned to Tech and told him, "Land the ship, Tech, and let's help get rid of those things."
Tech nodded and proceeded to take the ship down towards the drop zone for a landing.
Then you thought of an idea. It was probably crazy and there was always the chance it wouldn't work, but it was worth a shot.
You grabbed a flare from your pack and then activated the ramp to the ship, lowering it even while you were still in the air.
"What are you doing?" Echo asked you.
You answered, casually shrugging, "Something crazy and probably stupid, but then, what else is new?"
Without waiting for a response from him, you jumped out of the ship, hearing Echo cry out your name urgently, and hit the ground just a couple feet below, landing in a tuck and roll. Once you got to your feet, you activated the flare to get at least one of the Gundarks' attention and lead them away from the drop zone. Maybe if one saw it, the rest would follow it.
Well...it worked a little too well...because every single one of them looked at you the moment you lit up the flare and were suddenly scrambling towards you.
"Dank ferrik!" you exclaimed as you turned and started running as fast as you could.
Up in the Marauder as they circled back around, Wrecker cried out, "They're all chasing her!"
They Clones all watched you running from the Gundarks and then panicked when they saw the closest one to you jump you from behind and pin you to the ground just as the others were about to reach you.
"No!" Echo, who was still standing by the open door, cried out with worry. Gundarks were nasty creatures and he was afraid they were about to hurt you or kill you. He was not about to let that happen. Then he quickly activated the cord outside the ship and started lowering it, grabbing the end and hooking it to his belt. "Get me over there!" he called to Tech before jump off the ramp.
As Tech carefully flew the ship over in your direction, Echo dangled in the air by the line and withdrew his blaster, shooting at the Gundarks that were starting to overpower you as you did your best to fight them off. The shots either hit them or hit near them and caused a few of them to scatter, giving you an opening to get away.
You saw Echo coming and you shoved a couple of the Gundarks after you, taking a couple scratches from their claws and forced yourself to your feet.
"Jump to me!" Echo cried, holding out his arm.
With a sprint, you jumped up to him as he flew over you, his scomp arm coming about your waist and holding you close as you took hold of the line. In seconds, the ship flew upwards and away from the snarling creatures below.
You exhaled with relief as the line starting moving back up towards the ramp of the ship. "Thanks, Echo. That was close," you told your savior.
"Yeah, way too close for my liking," he replied. "Don't ever do that again."
You laughed sheepishly. "Hey, I told you it was something crazy and stupid."
"It was definitely more stupid than crazy...but that's why you fit with us so well," he said with a grin. "Now let's take care of the rest of those Gundarks so we can finish this mission."

Posting this as its own thing because I absolutely misread @freesia-writes prompt for Howzer.
So that's my bad.

But I'm also kind of proud of how these came out especially echo, and it was my first time drawing Howzer and Fives.
I gave him a smolder because it felt like he deserves that.

I Miss You

Whumptober 2023|Day 5|Alternative Prompt: Playing Cards
Bad Things Happen Bingo|Prompt: Crying Themselves to Sleep
Rating: G
Words: 785
Summary: Echo discovers a message from a brother.
“Those look so old!” Wrecker declares, leaning on the upper bunk to scrutinize the playing cards Echo is sorting through.
Echo smiles. “That’s because they are old. I pilfered them off a graduated trooper when I was a cadet.”
“You stole them?” Wrecker sounds as impressed as he is surprised. “I thought you never broke a rule in your life.”
“With the right motivation, I’ve been persuaded to bend a few.” Echo chuckles. “Technically, they were contraband for the guy I stole them from. So, really, I was doing him a favor.”
Wrecker grins. “That’s neat you still have them even after they thought you were blown up.”
Echo’s smile falls slightly as he continues to set the cards out, dividing them into suits. “Yeah, when they thought I died, they went to my old batch mate, Fives. After Fives, they went to Rex, and then Rex gave them back to me when I-"
"Came back to life?” Wrecker offers.
“Sure,” Echo says. “When that happened.”
“I don’t think you could even shuffle them if you tried.” Wrecker laughs.
“They’ve definitely seen better days.”
The cards are dogeared, and every one of them has been folded into quarters because of the time Cutup tried to cheat at Sabaac. He folded a few of them so he could identify them in someone’s hand. When the other Dominos found out, they had painstakingly copied the folds on every single card so they all matched. Echo had been so angry at his squad mate, but he desperately wishes he could take back the harsh words that came out of his mouth. After all, they were just cards. A toy. Nowhere near as important as the individuals that played with them.
Echo finds the card he is looking for, the one that had made this deck obsolete. He had accidentally dropped the card in his cup of caf, discoloring it. Fives had suggested they stain all the cards in caf to match; however, Echo decided to retire the deck and get a new one. The old deck was tucked away in his storage bin in the barracks on Kamino, carrying too many memories in its deteriorated fibers to throw away.
Echo holds up the stained card for Wrecker's inspection. “I dropped it in my caf. It’s the reason we didn’t play with this deck anymore,” he explains.
“What does it say?” Wrecker asks.
“What does what say?”
Wrecker points to the back of the card. “On the back. There’s writing.”
Echo flips the card around, squinting to make out the ink of a pen on the intricately designed backing.
I miss you.
Echo feels like the air has been stolen from his lungs.
Fives wrote those words. There is no doubt in Echo’s mind. Not before the Citadel mission. After. After Echo died. After Fives went back to Kamino. Echo can see him. Sitting in their barracks, sorting through Echo’s meager collection of personal effects. He’s searching for a playing card stained in caf. He writes the three words, handwriting ragged by a trembling hand. A note for the brother he lost. That he'd never get back. I miss you.
“Echo!”
Echo blinks and finds that Wrecker has half climbed into the bunk with him, a hand on each of his shoulders. “You with me, buddy?” Wrecker asks.
“Yeah,” Echo croaks. He clears his throat. “Yeah. Sorry.”
Wrecker’s good eye searches Echo’s face, trying to understand. “You scared me there for a second. You sorta zoned out, and then your breathing got weird.”
“Sorry,” Echo says again. Emotions bubble up, threaten to burst out of him, card still gripped in his flesh hand. Dark, inky, familiar script carving into his mind. I miss you. I miss you. I miss you.
“Did I do something?” Wrecker asks, climbing down from his precarious perch.
Echo shakes his head and tries to reassure the man with a thin smile. “No, you didn’t do anything. It’s just…” Echo holds up the card. “The writing. It’s a note from my batch mate, Fives.”
He leaves it at that, and Wrecker doesn’t ask for more. Instead, he offers Echo a kind smile. “I'm gonna go start my watch but let me know if you need anything.”
“Thanks, Wreck, I will,” Echo says, and he means it.
Wrecker leaves the bunk room, and Echo gathers up the cards, tucking them in their tin. He keeps the caf stained card out. He lies down, back to the room, facing the wall, and holds the note in front of him. The last words his oldest brother ever gave him blurs in his watery vision.
“I miss you too,” Echo whispers, and silently cries until sleep claims him.

First sentence for you: "His arm had gone numb again, at the worst possible time."
:)
This got quite a bit longer than five sentences! And I'm pretty sure you were aiming for war-style angst, but my brain went somewhere else entirely :)
Set in on that tree I'll carve your name, my Russingon QPR modern AU.
His arm had gone numb again, at the worst possible time. Maedhros sighed and crouched down to put his nephew back on the ground. “Tyelpë, I’m sorry, but I can’t carry you further,” he said. The child looked up at him with wide eyes. “Does your arm hurt, Uncle Mae?” “Yes, a little. Here’s what we’re going to do. You’re going to hold onto my sleeve real tight, alright? We’re almost home.” Maedhros’s left hand was busy carrying their groceries, and his right shoulder was on fire. Even the slight pressure of Tyelpë’s hand gripping his sleeve was painful, but it was better than letting his nephew cross the street on his own. To his credit, Tyelpë was perfectly well-behaved for the three blocks it took to get home. “Are you okay?” he asked with adorable concern when Maedhros dropped the groceries onto the floor of the elevator and dug his hand into his shoulder muscles, his breath hitching with the pain. “Don’t worry about me,” Maedhros smiled at him. The elevator dinged, and the door opened. Tyelpë grabbed the grocery bag and tried to lift it, but it was far too heavy for him. He started dragging it behind him instead, making for Maedhros and Fingon’s flat. Maedhros laughed. “Thank you, Tyelpë, but I’ll take it. Go open the door, it should be unlocked. Get Finno for me, alright?” “Yes, Uncle Mae! Uncle Finno!” he yelled on the landing, already running to the door. Maedhros chuckled and picked up the bag, gritting his teeth against the pain. In seconds, Fingon was at his side, taking the groceries and slinging his arm around his waist. “Hey,” he murmured. “The shoulder again?” “Yes,” Maedhros gritted out. “‘t’s fine, I just need to rest it.” “Go lie down,” Fingon said, guiding him into their flat. “I’ll handle Tyelpë and the groceries.” “I’m the one who’s supposed to be babysitting.” “Tyelpë loves me. Besides, he can colour on the coffee table if you’re on the couch. That still counts.” Maedhros sat down, and caught Fingon’s arm before he could move away. “Thanks. You’re the best.” “Always,” Fingon smiled.

Echo laid against his bunk as his mind drifted back to the briefing they had; they were going to be leaving for the Citadel in a day and a half. It bothered him that you’d be coming. Not that he didn’t think you could handle yourself. He’d seen you plenty of times on the battlefield able to handle some pretty narrow escapes. No, what bothered him was the high chance of either of you dying and you still thinking he hated you.
He’s not even sure when that notion first popped into your head, if it was something he said or did; or maybe a rumour you heard?
Fives always told him that he was being too critical of you, could that be what made you think he didn’t like you? He rubbed his forehead as he let out another sigh.
“UGH! Just go talk to her already,” Fives leaned over his bunk and berated Echo, “if you keep sighing like that you’ll have to deal with me, and my irritation.”
“It’s not like I don’t want to talk to her…”
“Then what’s the problem. Walk up to her and say, ‘Baby, I don’t hate you. I love you.’ Then pull her into a tight hug and kiss her. End of discussion, moving onwards.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, I don’t love her.”
“Right, and I’m not the best looking vod in the GAR.” Fives rolled his eyes, focusing back on his brother and narrowing his eyes at him, “Either go talk to her now or I’ll make sure it take forever for you to fall asleep and stay that way.”
Echo closed his eyes and let out another sigh, “Okay, okay. I’ll go.” He stood from his bunk and stepped out into the hallway only to feel the cool breeze against his legs. He looked down shaking his head, walking back in to put on some pants over his boxers. Now that he was somewhat decent, he headed back out and made it to your room.
He took a breath and knocked on the door. The moment you opened it, you stole his breath away. You were in a long sleeve shirt and shorts, somehow with the messy hair you had an almost ethereal look, like you were floating in zero gravity. He shook his head, “Um, sorry to disturb you.”
“What do you want, Echo? It’s late and we have to get up early to train for the mission.”
“I couldn’t stop thinking about you.”
You looked taken aback by that statement, your head even shifted further away from him, “Excuse me?”
“What I mean is…” he let out a sigh rubbing his forehead, Maker! Why was it always so difficult to talk to you? “Could I come in?” He looked at you with pleading eyes.
“I don’t …” your voice trailed off as you looked at him.
As you took in his expression, you couldn’t help wonder why he was at your door. You simply nodded and moved out of his way, as he walked in keeping his hands behind his back. He turned to look at you, trying to ignore how cozy and comfortable your quarters felt compared to the barracks he had been used to living in.
“You know, for being someone you hate, I’m sure on your mind a lot.”
You stated, annoyed that your sleep was being stolen away by Echo. After all, it had been no secret to you, how Echo disliked you. He always avoided talking to you or being around you. The times he did talk, it was less of a conversation and more of blunted statements thrown at you, like he couldn’t wait to get away from you. You never knew exactly what it was you did to cause him to dislike you so vehemently, and frankly you learned to deal with it, because regardless of how he felt about you, you respected and admired him. He was good at his job, and if he wasn’t so prickly, you could’ve even imagined you two being friends.
At least according to Fives, he believed you two could be the best of friends, as he felt compelled to tell you over and over again.
Echo let out a sigh as he rubbed his forehead again, “That’s actually why I came to talk to you.”
“Because I’m on your mind a lot?” You asked confused.
“No … yes … well, somewhat. What I mean is…” he cleared his throat, “I … I haven’t exactly been the nicest to you, and I know I’ve been pushing your buttons and your patience.” He stood a little taller, he was proud he’d been able to say this much. “I guess what I’m trying to say is sorry. I wanted to clear the air before we headed to the Citadel. General Skywalker was pretty adamant about how dangerous this mission could be, and I don’t want to go in knowing there’s issues between us.”
You rubbed your eyes as you slowly moved your hands through your hair, “Why do you dislike me?”
“Well, it’s not that I dislike you… really. It’s just …” he let out a sigh as he rubbed the back of his neck, “I just don’t know how to act around you. Every time I’m near you, my heart feels like it’s going to jump out of my chest, my stomach feels queasy and nervous, like I’m about to enter a battle. My hands feel like there’s ice running through them, and I can’t help but pay attention to everything you do. It’s overwhelming.”
You tried to fight the smile that wanted to fight through, “I see. Then maybe we should get to know each other better.”
Echo looked shocked, “Are you sure that’s wise? I mean after what I put you through?”
“Echo, are you sorry about that?”
“Of course.”
“Do you want us to be friends?”
His cheeks tinted, “Yes”
“Then, I don’t care. I’m not leaving you to wallow, especially since as you said you find it overwhelming to be around me, the best thing to do then is to spend more time with me. Wouldn’t you agree?”
He nodded smiling, “I guess you have a point.”
“I do. Now seeing as I’m more awake feel like joining me in the caf for a late night caf or tea?”
“Sure, I’d like that.”

They liked to flirt, tease and joke around. Now Echo is gone though, and Reader and Fives are devastated. Cuddles prompted 5, 15 and 20. Really they both just need shoulder to cry on. Someone to hold on to.

The presence of absence... It was a thought you found yourself stuck on often these days. How you could feel emptiness, as heavy and distinct as an object in your hand. How you could see vacancy, an outline in the space of every room, your eyes drawn to the void like a moth to a light. How it was possible to notice him when he wasn't there.
Echo wasn't there. And yet, he was. His absence made him present. Existing only as a memory projected into every space he should have been but no longer would be. The voice only you could hear. The face only you could see.
That wasn't entirely true. Fives still felt him, too. You could tell. Even though he did as he was trained and soldiered on, falling into step by the brothers who were still alive, never bringing up the ones who weren't, never spending time on the things that were out of their control, like life and death, and instead sticking to the things that were, like mission strategies and which MRE to have for breakfast... you knew he still noticed the presence of Echo's absence, just as much as you did. And you knew he was hurting just as badly.
They'd both been your friends, but it was Echo you'd dreamed of. Of kissing. Of loving. Echo with his sharp mind and sweet smile, just as no-nonsense as Fives was all-nonsense. Noble and steady and good.
And just when you'd gotten the sense he maybe returned some of your affections, he'd been taken away. Just like that. No more sweet smiles. No more dreams. Just you and his absence.
And Fives.
Some days you could follow his lead and pretend you didn't see the empty spaces. Other days it was like you had to stare through a ghost to even see the face of the living friend in front of you. Today was one such day. Fives had tried a joke, the first you'd heard a while, but all that landed with you was the absence of Echo's laughter. You waited to hear it and it never came. Neither did your own.
You could see Fives's throat bob as he tried to swallow. His hands came up as if wanting to take hold of you but not daring to reach through the space in between. You realized you couldn't remember the last time you had hugged each other in greeting, or felt his playful swat against your shoulder as he teased, or even the warmth of his leg against yours as he sat close to steal a bite of your food.
And then you realized Echo wasn't the only absence you now felt.
"I'm sorry," you rasped, your throat suddenly constricting with suppressed emotion.
Fives quickly shook his head in response. "It's okay."
You stood and stared at each other, unsure how to move forward. There was this thing in between you, a void that threatened to swallow you up if you dared cross it.
"I... I want you to be okay," he said after a while. And then, in a smaller voice, "Echo would want me to make sure you're okay."
You didn't think you could speak but you made yourself try anyway. "He'd want me to do the same for you."
Fives's mouth moved into a smile but it didn't reach his eyes. His eyes, instead, were watering, darting between yours and the walls around, as if searching for something. He wiped at them and then his beard, taking in a sharp breath through his nose, clearing his throat.
"I'm sorry," you heard yourself saying again. "I... I don't want to push you away..."
"It's..." he instinctually started to respond before stopping himself.
It wasn't okay. It wasn't okay to lose one friend and not have the other to lean on. The truth was, you were afraid. Afraid to walk through Echo. To fill the void with anything other than his memory.
"It's okay," he ended up saying.
It's okay.
Fives's mouth had moved but it was Echo's voice you heard. Clear and calm and certain. Delusion or not, it was all the permission you needed.
You threw yourself at Fives, not daring to think beyond your need to feel him. Your arms wrapped around his torso and squeezed his body tightly against yours. Your face buried into his chest. Your fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt. He immediately replicated every movement and held you with all the strength and care he had. Tears fell and mixed between you. Sobbing breaths heaved back and forth against each one another until they eventually ate each other up and left nothing but defeated sighs in their wake. Desperate, clinging grasps loosened into a tender but firm embrace.
You'd taken that empty space and started to fill it again. With a promise. With hope. And it was okay because you knew he was still there, too. An echo of every new memory you and Fives would make in his honor.
