Y’all run like poison in my blood,

it confuses the hell out of me.

one day it’s bright,

the next it’s cold.

Sometimes you show up, you cheer me on

but the smiles never reach your eyes, that

is if I’m actually seeing you, and not just words on a screen.

Even when we are together, it’s the fake smiles that really get to me.

You’re a mock-up.

Don’t tell me you love me.

Don’t tell me to smile.

Don’t tell me to enjoy myself.

Don’t act like you care, don’t feel obligated to ask me “how are you?”

The rest of them don’t.

but if you’re a mock-up, so am I

because I answer back so vainly,

so quickly because.....I just can’t help it.

I still miss all those childhood moments, painfully so.

After all you are my “family”,

but I think we have forgotten what family is.

I have trouble sleeping at night. The emptiness consumes me in pieces, tears me apart. The light through the window crack seeps into the dark room and that's the only thing between me and endless silence. I have seen moments turn into memories. The wishful thinking that everything would get back to how it used to be, lasts about a few seconds and then vanishes into thin air. The outcome of it reflects on my eyes and every second on the clock, it gets more and more difficult to avoid thinking. As I pen this down, I feel succumbed to a never ending loop of loneliness; stuck in a void which keeps getting bigger and the light at the end of the tunnel is about to be diminished soon. I have never felt this before. My thoughts are frozen. I feel suffocated down to my ribs. My heart screams pain and blood. My mind is about to go numb. I want to disappear. I've lost it all. Sometimes our personal journey towards resilience meets a roadblock. This is when we realise that cultivating resilience is a collective process. No tree can thrive if the forest suffers*. However, we cannot cultivate collective or societal resilience unless we develop the capacity to embrace the brokenness of those who suffer the most.
